Agreed they brew GREAT beer, but these would be very obscure brands...especially from belgium I tried to pick some well known brands!
I listed 26 initially but I could only post 10! |

Half of the beers in the poll aren't commonly available here, so of the other half Guinness is my first choice, followed by Warsteiner, Grolsch and Heineken. We have a lot of great regional and micro brews that you'll have to sample at DOAIII.
In fact, everyone going to DOAIII should bring a local beer for Hans to try. |

From that list............Grolsch.
Other perennial favorites are:
1. Molson Golden - hands down my favorite
2. Boulevard Pale Ale - a local brewery that makes some very good brews
3. Labatts
4. Budweiser
5. Pilsner Urquel
6. Cold (this includes most brands when served up on a hot day)
I haven't had a beer in over two months and this topic may be the motivation to have one this evening.

Where's the Spaten Fransicanerbrau??

I tend to prefer lagers. From the list given I chose Heinekin, Warstiener would be 2nd. Some of my other faves are Fosters, Spaten, Becks, Harp lager, St. Pauly, and Bud as my budget brew. I like the dark versions too. |

I'd be happy to give some stuff a try LOL!
I don't like the very dark yeasting beer though I like the pilsener style clear beers better...
mother's milk LOL, you can hardly get that stuff here only in the irish pubs! |

Oh believe me I have tried everything they gave me...I now have a very nice bottle 0,75 L of HERTOG JAN GRAND PRESTIGE, which is a very heavy beer like 11%, I am have to enjoy that slowly or else I am, gone HAHAHAH!
I have even tried some Belgian beer I can't remember the name it is the strongest I have ever tried was 17,8% vol...I didn't like it too much HAHAHA!
DUVEL is 8,5% but will kill you if you drink it too fast, I have seen noone walk straight after three 0,33L bottles in a row! |

Bud isn't high on my list either I like Heineken, Tsing Tao is good too. I like a good porter as well. Guiness is in a class by itself - it should have it's own layer on the "Food Pyramid" We have some great Micro Brews here Hans I'll try to bring a couple with me to DOA III. Magic Hat is a good brand. |

I am surprised so many of you know Tsing Toa HAHHA here you can only get it with the chinese restaurants...their factory was founded by Germans BTW!
Honestly the Germans make the purest beer, they have the PURITY laws which only allow natural ingredients...soem brewers rom teh netherlands also brew according to the german "Reinheitsgebot"..
Most beer nowadays contain chamicals, but you can hear all about it in TANKARD's song "chemical invasion" |

Had to vote for guiness, since its the only "Favorite" of mine on the list. My real favorite is Bells, out of Kalamazoo, MI. If I can't get Bells, then I shoot for Guiness, Bass, or harps, or some of the seasonal Sam adams. Unfortunately down here in Tulsa, the best you can get at most bars is either Sam Adams lager, or Dos XX. Better than drinking Budwieser, but still not great. |

I voted for Lapinkulta
Altought I like Warsteiner alot and Velkopopovicky lager is one of my favourites too. A couple other Finnish lagers are at the top of my list.

There's nothing for me to vote for on that list.
I like Bud but the Canadian version brewed by Labatt not the US one.
Where's 'Rickard's Red'?
And my favourite 'Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale'?
C'mon, ya gotta give us Canadians something to vote for!!! |

Cool! Were you in Hyvinkää by any chance? I think the KONE headquarters are there.
Actually there is I, III and IV. I is only 2% and III is 4,6 and IV is 5%. Maybe you had Koff or Karjala?

Yeah, I've heard of that hotel.
You know, sauna is a great place. I love it to death. And beer is a must if you go to sauna!
You should come again and I can show you the good bar's and pub's! And you could taste all the beers made in Finland

Everytime I drink Oranjeboom, I kinda get that "colonic" thing. It DOES clean my insides, in a VERY unpleasant manner. Bavaria gives me the same problem. Hertog Jan, on the other hand, is really nice. Do they also brew it according to the "Reinheitsgebot"? |

Hans - Baby.......you gotta learn more about Canada. We are BEER crazy in this country! Half our culture revolves around beer. Heck, we proudly say "I AM CANADIAN" - after a beer commercial (the latest one with us beeting the Americans to the moon is hilarious)!! Seriously - Canadian beer is awesome and will stand up to some of the worlds best. Don't worry - I'll bring some along to DOA!!!!!!! |

I drink Bud on a regular basis..I live in St Louis, home of Anheiser Busch. But I like a lot of microbrew stuff mostly. But on that list, Warsteiner is the best, then heineken. Where's Harps?

PBR me ASAP!
MGD
I like the letter beers. PBR and MGD are my favs. Coors aint bad.
IMO Bud is putrid.
Anyone have Camo? Like drinking water with 9% alcohol. Surprisingly not bad. Camo Ice on the other hand... whoa... half a can is the limit... either you're buzzed by then because you have to chug it because of the taste, and even then you only make it half a can, or you're sick from the taste . 99 cents a 24 oz can.
Falls City and Hamm's aren't too bad for cheap beers.
I'd like to try a Jeunglinger (sp?) again. Had that at Penn State College PA. Good stuff.
Some of the other nasties. Wildcat and Steel Reserve 211 (though I think they're malt liquors).
I guess I'm a cheap domestic guy! |

Back before becoming a diabetic I really, really liked beer.
My favs at the time were Grolsch (when you could actually find AND afford it at the same time, cool bottles those) on the high end, and Hiene as the normal stuff.
In college, when we were starving, there was always this gawdawful crap called Buckhorn, which you could get for about a buck a six pack ("Gotta buck? Yer in luck"). It was putrid. Horrid stuff.
We'd freeze em, and poor the unfrozen alcohol off the top because the stuff was literally undrinkable. Made for a cheap buzz and a horrific hangover.
These days I have to settle for non alcoholic ones (alcohol metabolizes as pure sugar in bloodstream) and I find that ODouls isn't too bad. Every so often I'll run across St. Pauly Girl NA, which is the king of the heap for the NA ones.
Joe, didn't figure you for a wine guy. About once a year or so I'll "live large" and savor the crap out of a Kendall Jackson Chardonnay. Damn fine stuff for a domestic.

Sam Adams is the best American beer, hands down, though I know I haven't tasted many microbrews. Most American beer is very flavorless. When I started I thought Budweiser was strong tasting, but now that I've aged, not much but a little, I really don't like beer that tastes more like water than beer. As far as them holding the record, I don't doubt it, but beer can only so high in alcohol content before the fermentation stops no matter who makes it.
I also like Heineken, Grolsch (my vote), and St. Pauly. IMO they all taste similar, but equally good. I've always thought that Warstiener was overrated.
Hans, I know what you mean about black licorice water, ugghh!
Camo beer is terrible IMO! But I have found myself drinking a couple of times for the inexpensive buzz I can get from it!
Some of those choiced I've yet to try. |

I hope I didn't imply it was anything but horrible, lol. About all it has going for it is it sure is a cheap buzz and it is so flat that it goes down like water (to me anyway); after several beers of any type, to me again, the taste adds up. Nothing like a good, flat, high alcohol content, cheap beer to get blitzed with.
I'm not all about cheap beer though. I do recall having a couple Sam Adam's once and they were quite good; I'd concur that Sam Adams is probably the best domestic.
I got one of those "Beers of the World" 6 packs for my 21st b day and I can't remember for the life of me what were the beers that I had that really stood out. Definitely the imports were better than the domestics though. Maybe I'll buy myself one for Christmas! |

Speaking of beer, too much Mich Lite tonight...need to eat moe and drink less. Wow I spell ok drunk huh? I rule! My roommates and I went out to a bar within walking distance toigh and we had a fe pitchers and did some trivia...it was funny because there was some guy who kept getting every question right away (dunno if anyone had done NTN trivia before, but it's times so if yiou get it specifically within a certain amt of tiem you get more points) and this guy kept getting like all the possible points. I wanted to scream to him that he needs to get a life, but I dind't know who it was. o well. Nite guys! |

Mark,
If you have any place that imports wine, please look in teh German Section (I know, my great grandfather is rolling over in his grave), and see if you can find one called an "auslese". Auselese is the type it is, like chardonnay or whatever. These are very sweet wines, but are not a desert wine. It's very pleasant to drink. There is no sugar added, so I would think you could probably be allright drinking a glass, but I wouldn;t drink a whole bottle, I don;t know if the sulfides in wine would bother your diabetes or not, I don't know enough about it. Most Auslese wines are fairly inexpensive, And can usually be had for $20 for a pretty good example. Some brands I know of and have tried/can recomend;
Von Wilhelm Hause
Bauer & Foss
Schmitt Sohne
On te totoally other end of the spectrum, if you want something nasty to compete with your buckhorn, have you ever tried thunderbird wine? OH DEAR GOD! STRONG, and VIOLENT! your tongue won't like it and your stomache won't either! For a satire of it, listen to Townes Van Zandt's song called "talking thunderbird Wine Blues". It's pretty funny. |

sometimes when your vigorously having at "it", and you get that partched feeling??
there's nothing that quite gets rid of that type of cottonmouth like a frosty mug of Weitzen..
and of course, you don't want to spill any of it, so i'd advise a "Camelback" system.. then you can enjoy your vigorous acts of debauchery, and yet, have the cool refreshing taste of a good beer to wash it all down with..
remember, most muscle cramps are caused by insuffcient beer intake.. so, when doing strenuous activities.. so, have enough beer to compensate for the strain..
i think beer companies should market beer-flavored condoms.. so, the ladies can enjoy it too.. |

To rival Mark's all-time worst of Buckhorn, I offer up.........
Grain Belt at $1.99 for a twelve-pack many years ago
It tasted bad, left a worse aftertaste and gave one a very powerful headache after the fact. BUT.......it was $1.99 for a twelve-pack.
Carlings' Black Label ran a close second.
For the cheap/tolerable beers, Hamm's and Schaffer's weren't too bad. I was never a PBR fan.
Someone had mentioned the lack of attention for Tuborg. I drank a LOT of Tuborg for a stretch of time. Every once in a while out here in the great wide nowhere, there would be a sale on a very good beer because no one had heard of it and a store would put it on sale to move product. Tuborg was one of those. Another was twelve packs of Molson Golden at a price cheaper than a six-pack of Bud. The same place also had Foster's oilcans for 89 cents each for a stretch of time. That place got a whole bunch of our business.
Does anyone out here brew their own?

Boy Jim - that brings beck "bad beer" memories - LOL (see it's true what they say about brain cell regeneration ) Schlitz, Hamms, Micky's Malt Liquor (original big mouth bottle), PBR all rank down therek, but truth be told we consumed what was on hand. We used to brew our own back in the day. Our Stout was legendary!! We used to drive over to Windsor Canada to buy gas & beer. Was cheaper then in Detroit and so much better
But I confess to going on the tour at the Stroh Brewery three days a week one summer. AFter the tour you got an hour of free beer no limit!!! Man we used to float out of there - ha ha ha ha |
