I've been playing Deans since junior high 1980. I have an old 81' z flame series. I just recently purchased a Korean Dean z. serial# E101057. The old 81' always sounded better than alot of the Gibson explorer.s I've owned.A real 76' natural, 84' black, and another real 76' that had been refinned white. The old gibson's were o.k. guitars but, never sounded as good! My question is what year is the Korean Dean? It sounds great! It's all original with the zebra buckers. I thought I would have to replace the parts but, I looked inside and saw alot of cheap looking parts, jack. toggle, wiring. pot.s all looked very cheap but, the guitar sounds great! are the dean zebra's better than the duncan designed pups in most imports? I suspect the string thru tail=piece contributes alot to the tone? Any info would be greatly appreciated. |

Does it have multiply binding flame top veneer, set neck? block inlays? if so it's a Z select...and prolly late 90's or early 00's
If it's bolt on and has Black inlays and a metallic finish it's a Z platinum..prolly late 90's or early 00's
If it has the series II headstock, dot inlays, flame maple veneer, and single ply binding and set neck it's a very recent 79 series!....early 00's |

It has the bigger headstock like my 81' set neck, flame-top probably laminate. but, for the playability and look this is way better than any gibby I've owned. I also had a 83' heritage korina custom shop Gibson explorer. it looked great but, that the best description I could give of that guitar. |

If the headstock is UNbound and it has dot inalsy you have a 79 series!
Nice guitars pop in some decent PU's and you're set! |
