This may sound like I'm stupid, but I am.
I’ve got an ’02 EVO FT.
My tuner indicates that each string is in tune, but my G-string is sharp when playing a 1st position D major. The tuner shows (and my ear confirms) that everything else is pretty much spot-on. I know it sounds weird, but it's only when playing an 'A' (2nd fret) on the G string (like I said, when playing a D chord) that I have the problem. If I barely press, it's in tune, but if I put additional pressure it moves very sharp. I'd guess close to 1/4 step. Harmonics and octave/12th fret all seem fine. I've been playing this guitar for about 6 months, and this intonation problem is new.
Do I need another set-up? Is this possible a nut problem? |

If it's only with that note (that string with that fret), sounds like either a fret problem or a string problem. Does the fret seem a bit high or deformed right there? Is there a bend in the string right there? You may want to change that string or all the strings and see if the problems stays. This is not a nut problem. |

Check the fretboard with an 18" straight edge if you have one and see how much relief your neck has. BUT if it's only that one string in that spot it could very well be a high fret. |

LEt em ask you a couple questions;
Do you know what the current humidity is in your house?
When did this exactly appear?
haev ytou been using anything, like Dr. Ducks perhaps, to restore the natural oils and moisture back into your fretboard?
this may eb a case of the baord drying out, pushing a fret or two up slightly on one side. A set up and some Dr. Ducks would fix it right up, be sure to tell the dude about the issue, and between teh two, it will play as good if not better than before. If you have any other issues, don't hesitate to contact me, I might be able to help! |

get your frets leveled under neck tension, using the exact string gauge that you are intending to use and keep using..
everytime you change string gauges, you should do a re-set of the neck and check the fret level.. i.e. get a new setup done on it.. otherwise, you can run into problems like this..
i know that my DOA Caddy's frets are high.. if i use too much pressure, the notes go sharp.. so, effectively, it's like a scalloped neck.. i can't feel the fretboard underneath the strings..
get a setup.. |
