What was your very first electric guitar? Do you remember what kind, what it looked like? What you got with it? etc.
Mine was a cheap-a$$ no-name korean model. double cutaway, strat shape, red body and neck. It had one bridge postion open coil humbucker, tone knob, vol knob, and straight-pull bridge.
Kinda smallish body. My dad got it for me Di Fiorie's on Loraine Ave.
It came with some cheap, low wattage PA style amp unit. I think it had reverb. The guy threw in an orange DOD volume pedal.
(what the HE11 does a 10 year old need a volume pedal for playing in his room?!) My dad took the pedal back, and got me a ProCo Rat.
Ten years later, I still have the guitar. It's now stripped bare. (a custom paint project I never finished) I just keep the junky thing around for sappy sentimental reasons. The pickup is probably the best part on it.
I wired The PA amp thingy's speaker cab into a sort of practice amp, still got it. It sucks, but still got it.
In high school, I still had the Rat Pedal, but it was broken, so I gave it to my classmate Kevin. He fixed it the next day. Dammit. I should have kept that thing.
...let me go get a tissue..*sob* |

My first guitar was a Hondo Strat-copy. The neck was like a 2*4 piece of wood. Don't have it anymore, traded it in for a Hamer USA Steve Stevens II model. I don't remember how much I got from it. Prolly nothing
I got my first amp the same day, Novanex SS 10w very small combo. That one I still have.

Here you go Dean Heads--- Way back when in 1982, My buddy who was/is a kick a$$ guitar player bought a brand new Les Paul Black beauty- "Studio" I think? I always played "Harp" in our keg bands and thought I should take up guitar as a second instument. A store in Seattle- "Mick's Vintage Guitar's" was having a sale- " Any Guitar For $300 or less!" Dave and I went down there-NO NOT YOU PRES.!!! I had the full intentions of buying a Les Paul or Strat! We wandered thru the store and towards the back was a White Dean V w/broken strings/Dot inlays and a White Dean Z w/block inlays in perfect condition! My buddy played it for a bit and said "Buy IT Now" I'll give you the $ for it as soon as I can! Of course he never come up with the $ so I have owned my "80 Custom" ever since!!! I still own this guitar and have taken immaculate care of it over all these years!!!

hehe.. it was in March of 1977, i was 9 years old at the time.. my next door neighbour had a black Carvin LP copy (the one that had the Gibby HS), well he tried to teach me to play it a couple of times.. and i was hooked.. so he sold me a Univox ES-335 copy.. it was black and had a trapese tailpiece.. it was a bolt-on.. hahaha.. for the grand sum of $10.00..
i tried to learn.. i was hooked on Kiss, so the first song i learned was "God of Thunder"..
i had the guitar until 1982.. i refinished it in a "Rick Nielsen" checkerboard.. it actually was done really well (i had help, alot of help!!) then i sold it off..
shoulda kept it.. what a SKA-box that would be now.. |

My first was an Electra. It was a strat copy in red with a white pick guard. Couple that with my little Venom 10 watt amp and I was a rock 'n roll god. Then I picked up an Aria Pro II - another strat copy with a licensed Floyd. Next up was a Gibson Explorer in purple burst. Next came my '80 Dean V, which I still own. |

My first one I still have I got it on April 25,1962 for my birthday.
The finish is still in good shape some checking , but just adds to the vibe.

My first guitar was somwethign called a "blade II", a red strat knock off, played through a Peavey Rage amplifier. I sold them later to get a bigger amp, as I already had moved on to a better guitar. |

First guitar was a Gibson Victory MVX...pretty awesome first guitar. Had a Thunderbird stock on a strat-y body with H/S/H pickup config. The thing weighed more than any Les Paul I've played since...it was a freaking coffee table. Companion amp was a Marshall Lead 12 combo that I still have. A collector in Las Vegas bought the guitar as I had it on sale on consignment. Trying to find that dude so I can attempt to buy it back. Hindsight showed me that a lazy ass ex-wife is no reason to sell a guitar when you have less than no dough...just dump the dead weight in heels. |

My first (only 2 years ago) was a Squier double fat strat in dark metallic purple. They couldn't move the purple ones sop I got it on sale. It was actually my favorite color so I was happy. It ended up being traded to GC for something or other. Wish I still had it, it was one of those cheper guitars that was "just right". Bill, you got that LP a couple of months before I was even born, and I'm OLD. |

Bill,
That '58 Custom is very very nice! And the value should be quite good also. My undestanding is that there aren't too many '57-'61 Custom's with 2 pups?
Can you send me bigger resolution pics of her? mikko.aittola@saunalahti.fi
Mikko
EDIT: Looking at the picture it seems to be the black pickup version from '54-'57? |

My first guitar was back in 1978. It was a used 1975 Gibson SG. My younger brother who took up the guitar, still has it. My amp was a cheap solid state Kustom amp and I had a "Little Muff" as a distortion pedal. (it wasn't really a pedal, you plugged the Little Muff straight into the amp.) Does anybody remember those? |

my first guitar was some piece of junk $25 thing. I have no idea what kind it was, and was a wacky shape. The neck and joint were horrible, I remember sawing off the last 2 frets of the neck and reattaching the neck back to the body - the original screw holes weren't holding the neck straight. I smashed the thing as soon as my next guitar was purchased. I then got some Peavy strat copy, then a Fender strat, then this Kramer Focus 2000 - had a floyd and took an amazing beating (still have it, now a parts guitar - has a nice row of indents on the body where the trem bar was smashed into it repeatedly.)

Well technically, I was a bass player first. I started on string bass in 3rd grade, and I don't even remember what the first one was as it was a school loaner.
My first "electric" was a Hofner Beatle bass.
I shortly thereafter moved over to guitar, and my first acoustic was a Alvarez Yairi, which I still have.
My first electric was an Electra MPC X310 LP knock off, which is still being played these days by our own Steph none the less. My 2nd electric was an 80 ML which I bought new, and still have today.

wow that's going aways back.. cool to see a young spacebeer too.. lol
i bought my first acoustic from a friend at college.. it was a yamaha something crap.. the action was awful.. the sound even worse.. but i learned my first chords and my first praise songs on that baby. led a lot of singing times with children at church with it...
traded it in for a souped up fender acoustic.. i really didn't know anything about guitars except that i've heard of the fender name.. didn't even do any shopping.. i was just naive and stupid. spend like 450 dollars on that piece of junk... it was hard to play and still didn't sound very good..
needed the money really bad so i sold my fender in a consinment shop.. almost got half of what i paid for it back.. and used my wife's old fender acoustic she got for her birthday when she was 17..
and then the big trade.. i actually did my homework.. played about 50 different acoustics.. including taylor, alvarez, ibanez, fender, squire, gibson, epiphone, breadlove... you name it i played it.. in stores and pawn shops... then i found her... my gorgeous Dean Exotica RSE... I've been in love ever since.. she's as smooth as butter on a bald monkey.. and her sound.. oh it makes me swoon...

I traded some computer stuff for a red DeArmond LesPaul two years ago - it was a good guitar. My folks wouldn't let me buy an electric guitar when I was young - too noisy they said. I'm making up for it now though - Bwahahahahaha |

'78 Memphis Les Paul copy tobacco sunburst & some unknown brand 15 watt amp (w/ cheesy tremolo effect!!!). I wish I had pictures and sometimes I wish I still had the guitar. It survived many garage bands.

My first electric guitar was a 50's vintage Kay short scale Bass. I still have it. I played it through a Sears Silvertone Tube Bass Amp. That was in 1962. My first 6 string electric was also bought in 1963. It was a 1957 (beat to hell) Fender Strat. Sure wish I had it now. I played it through the Sears Bass amp for a couple of years then got a Fender Super Reverb Amp. It was the early black face non master volume model. Before all of that, I had a Gibson LGO acoustic with a De Armond pickup playing through a home made amp. |

My first axe was a Magnum Superstrat copy. Metal red with a black pickguard. I have no recollection of 'why' or 'how' I came to aquire it as I'm not much of a SuperStrat man (at all for that matter), but our vice principal in high school was a bit of a hippie and he owned a 'blackie' Fender strat that he used to loan me at lunch times so I could jam with other guys. Still to this day the only Strat I enjoyed playing. It was wicked.
First amp? No idea. Can't remember for the life of me. Can't even remember what happened to it. Perhaps I should have taken piccies like Hans (wicked shot of you with da Gibsons dude LOL) |
