Anyone a fan? I downloaded a bunch of his stuff today and I really like it, so I'm gonna go out and get one of his CD's. Any suggestions?
BTW, I got Satch Tapes on DVD and Satriani's anthology CD for Channukkah...if you're a fan, you won't be dissappointed. If you're interested, the anthology would be an AWESOME place to start.

I've seen him live once, very nice. He's daughter was playing drums. Very cool guy, came to the bar after the gig and we chatted awhile. I have one cd of him. Don't remember tough the name.

Lon, you're thinking of Steve Cropper.
I've been a fan of DD since the early sixties. He tours regularly and I highly recommend catching his act if at all possible. He's more than just surf music and played with and was friends with Hendrix and SRV among others. The man has been around and is an excellent guitar player. |

I know he is a lefty, but I think I saw that he has his guitar strung backwards too. |

Three CD's I'd recommend are "Calling Up Spirits", "Tribal Thunder", and "Best of Dick Dale & his DelTones".
Athough he has his own signature Strat now, he basically plays a guitar upside down, strings and all. His normal string setup starts with a .014 or larger...this combined with his custom Dual Showman amp produces a tone unlike anything else you've ever heard. |

Bob is correct on the upside down thing Albert King played his V the same way. There is a recording out there floating around of SRV and Dick Dale which I have heard is some pretty fantastic stuff. |

ALL HAIL LEFTIES! haha. if im not mistaken thought, he plays a right handed guitar turned around, but not restrung. so instead of the usual, eadgbe...he plays on ebgdae. hes the dominator of all the is surf guitar, he has also teamed up with SRV before. |

Bill, you're correct. DD and SRV did a duet of "Pipeline". It's on the "best of..." album. |

He is the absolute KING OF SURF GUITAR!!!! He has been around forever. Anyone remember the old "Bikini-Beach-Surf" movies from the 70's? He had appearances in a lot of those. Someone else thought he played with Booker T & the MG's on Green Onions. If memory serves me, that was Steve Cropper. Steve Cropper also played the Tele (guy with the long hair) in the Blues Brother Movie. |
