I like the '79 reissues a lot! I love their look but I have yet to play one. How are they? Do they need a pickup change? How is the playability and sustain etc.
I was never really interested in Deans until I saw this photo and it hooked me :

Yep, really good players. I have 2 ML's, and they play great. You may or may not want to change out the pickups. They're okay, but if you're into Slayer-type stuff, you'll want something more ballsy.

Really good guitars at an exceptional price. I had thought of swapping out the pickups, but they sound great. If you'd like to hear a sample, drop me a line and I can send you an MP3 so that you can hear for yourself. |

because we're fanatics... we all have several, and we'll sella couple to buy differant ones, or sell two to get enough money to buy the uber cool USA dean.
nothing at all bad about teh 79's, they are the top end import guitar. you're only gonna get a better one by buying a USA one, and you can't touch one for less than $1400.
Most everyone has a 79 around here.
If you're into Slayer, you'll want a heavier pickup, but if you;re into slayer, I think that'll be pretty much standard no matter what you buy, slayer kind of demands a high output pickup.
Hope that helps! |

Well old slayer really doesn't require high output. They didn't get into the shitty high output crap until really hell awaits (which is still great) but dropped to crappy in Reign in Blood (hence the EMGs). |
