On like my first post I was talking about how much I had to have a Caddy select. I said I could only afford a select, and that I wanted to know if it was available in black. I was given a lotta advice and alternative options. These include the Silverburst caddy, checking out some other dean models including the Z, V, and ML....
I was also informed how it was easier than I thought to sit with, and wield the more exotic-shaped deans.
...I had settled on getting a Caddy select in TigerEye, and well..
I thought about how one commenter in the the thread suggested getting a '79 series guitar. Not only because they kick a$$, but because they can be had Black finish with binding I craved, and that they were affordable.
Well, after drooling over various pics, I decided I'm going to continue to save for a saucy DEAN 79' series V. (black)
-I mean geeze, I already got two knock-around off brand guitars to sling over my knee, I can get the V as something to be proud of.
Thanks again for all the advice from you guys back in that post. Truly this place has some of the most knowledgable collectors around.

Naw dude, see I said I decided on the V. .. the ML and Z's are both awesome, but I gotta have me a V.
(I was partly inspired by seeing Jimmy Hendrix playing a Gibson flying V on his Isle of Wight dvd, and seeing the lead singer of My Morning Jacket jam on a Gibson flying V on Conan O'Brien... these guys among other artists made me want one.... My Dean V will be sweeter though.)
yeah, and I said I didn't mind the shape of the V, 'cause I already have 2 cheap guitars for the knee-playin.
-Plus I recall one commenter explaining how he plays a V kinda classical-style with no problem.
ie, the whole "sit-down" isn't a factor anymore. |

Dude i think Vs are the most easy guitars to play when sitting...? Prehaps its just me but when you have the upper wing o your knee it makes the Neck go a bit higher than when your playing with a Strat, and that i like... Much esier to play that way... |

I agree. MLs give you the versatility of playing the neck in the horizontal or classical position |

I just use a strap with my V. I don't have any problems sitting or standing as the V is always at the same hight either way. *shrug*
Good luck with the 79 V. My V Select always gets lots of oohs and aahs from my other guitar playing buddies. |

I bought a V this weekend to join my ML and Cadillac. It's now my favorite of the three. It's not a TC.
It's a V Select. I think when I do buy my first US Dean it's gonna be a V. It feels so good to play. |

Yeah, the strap works for me..
I find that I prefer to stand when I'm playing anyways.
..but who cares? The V looks sweet enough to make my decision for me. |

Dude, that's awesome. Howdy, fellow clevelander. ...I tried out a caddy at Cleveland Music Center, the guys there are pretty cool.
PS: if you see a Small Stone phaser pedal under the counter, that was mine, I traded it for a gig bag. (god, I'm an idiot)) |

I have to also agree......
I like playin a V when sittin down...feels very comfortable to me...
easy to get to the upper register...
I havent been to the Cleveland Music Center, but the Akron store just doesnt seem to carry the volume of Deans, that they used too..
There is a small local store here in Akron that carries tons.....and I mean tons of Deans.... |

What can I say? Japan was awesome! Wife wouldn't let me buy any guitars though (some women just don't understand) . A shop in Shinjuku had a pretty good collection of Fender, Gibson, and Gretsch guitars, and a vast array of bigname and exotic pedals. For the bass guys, they even had an original Big Muff Pi selling for around 18000yen. The pedals were dirt cheap compared to .au, but I couldn't find the one pedal I wanted - an EH Black Finger. It was all I could do to spend 20 minutes in the shops, as Mrs Switched was bored with such things. The couple of shops I found didn't want anyone taking photos inside, so no pics either I did, however, wear my Dean leather jacket with pride the whole time I was in Japan.
Music aside, Mrs Switched and I were just blown away by the place. The food was awesome, people friendly, plenty of English signage so we didn't get lost, and the trains were ontime and frequent! The architecture is amazing, unlike the ugly building competitions that the architects in .au seem to be having. We went on the Shinkansen (bullet trains) a few times, in the first class reserved (Green Car) carriages. Compared to .au, it was mindblowing to be blasting along in a train doing +200kph with a beer I bought from a vending machine in one hand, and a cigarette in the other
Did I say Japan was awesome? |
