Since this has been a topic lately, I thought I'd just tell you my short story...
I was in the Royal Norwegian Navy from 1992 to 1993. I was the radio operator on the ftp (fast patrol boat) "Trygg".
An exciting time for sure! Cruising up and down the norwegian west coast all kind of weather was encountered. Tried beeing sea sick in 50ft waves? That's an experience you don't forget!
The past few years, I have served under General Forum....
What about you other guys?

Compulsary service was just abandonned when I came to the age of 18 so i choose to study instead of fight!
I sometimes regret it since it might have been fun to play military with a bunch o crazy guys and all the wild things that belong to the "service" time we all had to do before 1995...but in teh end I think i am better off like this!
If there ever will be a war in the netherlands i will have to do some very quick course I guess!
But I think we'd better bomb the enemy with beer and throw one big party....let the leaders do the fighting then!
Cheers

I was serving '96-'97. I was a weather seargent. We sent balloons up to the skyes with radio sonds sending the temperature, windspeed etc. Then we provided that data to cannon/tank guys. They calculated the flying range of the ammo according to our information.
It was fun.

Lost me on that one. If you hadn't even gone to basic yet, how were you "in the Army", and how did you know it blows? |

Yes I understand the delayed entry program. But that's not "in the Army". |

The delayed entry program is where you sign up but are (usually) waiting for the job you want to open up or to finish high school. So you're technically enlisted, just haven't left for basic yet, and as has been shown, you can decide not to go if you choose. |

HAHAHA.... Thanks Ziggy
both military careers and Banning as been a subject .....
1st 3 months in the army I drove a Scandia 143H truck, so the day came we should camo paint several vehicles hehehe
and I am a little colorblind, meaning, similar colors in daylight is for me impossible, all is grey, and I tried to tell the officers but no chance in hell !
there was 5 colors - Light green, dark green, light brown, dark brown and Black
the only one I saw was black, the other colors where grey hehehehe
I finished one little Dodge (can't remember what kinda dodge only we called them 1/4)
.....and everybody laughed hehehe... guess they still are
a green car with black dots !!
the last 9 months in the army I drove around in a Mercedes 500 sec , so I don't complain .... No action but a great year ! |
