Without a doubt no one could every really replace Randy but as a person who saw Ozzy twice when on his randy tribute album tour Brad Gillis did a admirable job of attempting to play Randy's licks. Later Jake E Lee was not terrible and I am not gonna say any bad about Zakk. Ozzy did have a way of finding talent.

Diary for me is one of the best of all time. It transcends tunes for me. Every time I heard it I was listening..still do. Sarzo has a lot to do with too.

The "Diary of a Madman" tour was the first time I'd ever seen a t-shirt at the Merch Table for the guitarist when the band's name wasn't his own.

A black t-shirt with white ink of Randy playing one of the polka dot guitars.

My brother picked up an import copy of Blizzard of Ozz in late 1980. We were blown away on the first listen. Collectively, it was the "who the hell is this guy?" reaction.

In the following summer, it was reinforced when we saw them at a small venue and only 750 people were there. As I've no doubt mentioned before, there's still a vivid memory being on about the 5th row, with Randy standing at the front of the stage and wailing through "Crazy Train". I've no doubt that a few people in their audience peed their pants. Maybe worse.

Almost as memorable as Randy and Ozzy was the opening act. Motorhead. Hands down......the loudest opening act we've ever seen. A guy with a Ric 4001 that's yelling at the ceiling and playing LOUD and fast. Then came the moment when he points to one of the young gals that was with our group and says "Here's a song that we're dedicating to YOU.....it's called Jailbait".

How he would've progressed as a player and composer will always be debated. Regardless of direction, it's a pretty safe bet that it would have been good, it would have been interesting and it would have been memorable.

I saw him in a cool 3000 seat old-school opera type theater with some little band opening up called Def Leppard. Best show ever.
