ADDED PICS ON MY 2ND BLOW TORCH DEAN!
I bought this RED used Dean Edge for $100 w/ case on craigslist. I thought it was too pretty and looked like a Sunday morning church bass. It plays and sounds awesome, But it didn't match my new Dean Spire Ashley Purdy Signature.
So I took a blow torch to it!
Now it looks like it belongs in a metal band!
Got the 2nd silver Dean Edge for $120 at GC and "pre aged" it as well! LOL!

Here are some pics of my 2nd blow torched Dean!
The silver looks amazing and you can see the cool rust effect it makes!

I like the silver one more because it actually shows the paint damage. The browning makes it look a lot like rust rater than burning. Maybe throw on some clear or dull coat over the body to lock in the look.
I did a sanding relic job on a Lotus bass I have. But the pickguard is still bright white. Any idea what this technique would do to that? |

Just sell them as custom paint and you may even get more than you paid. It's worked for me in the past. |

Thanks guys! Yeah the silver one looks better.
The red one plays very well though.
These basses are so under rated. The Emg Hz pickups actually sound great for passive pickups. Yeah, there are better sounding actice pickups out there. But if you dont like active pickups, these are awesome!
I hate that Dean has put these basses on the back burner and made them so entry level. The $350 dean edge 4s play better than a $700-$800 Ibanez Soundgear. There is a huge pickup difference, but I dont care for the Bartolini actives and their high end hiss.
*BTW, Elliott and Ashley Purdy from BVB have both seen pics of these basses and they thinks they look amazing! |

They look great, but would look even better if you stripped the PUPS and bridge and torched the cavity edge areas as well. Would look even more "custom paint"-like. |

If only you didnt burn holes all the way through the finish on the silver one it would look like a cool rust like paintjob but the burnt holes ruin it for me. But they still look metal |

It originally just had the paint burned off, but it looked cheesey and not really burnt. It looked more like a cheesey graphic. So I when back and burned more holes.
I want to actually feel where its burned. I wasnt going for a "graphic" look. It looks better in person with the wood damage. Works for me! I wanted it to be bad ass, not just look bad ass. |
