I think its a cool idea. I'd try a set of those live. I tried black strings and the coating was really easy to scrape off. |

There was a set of the glowing magenta one's on the USA Exotic ML I got from Martin. Looked odd and the shedding just makes you want to change a perfectly good set of stings because your guitar looks like it's having a bad hair day. Black ones would look great on an ebony board |

I have the black bass strings on my ash / maple Sledge Hammer bass and they sound and look great. The coating does come off easy when using a pick and on the fret area where they touch but I still like them. Easy on the fingers and not as noisy. |

I wish they had red. I'll try pink on my red Kramer. They should definitely bring out red and blue, and then they'll have a lot more usable colors. |

I don't think red and blue are commonly used as fluorescent colors. too dark. |

Purple red or blue would be nice.
Looking at their website, is it ONLY the Flo colors that are the new K3 coating? I'd try orange w/my purple-ish Ibanez, but NO idea what NEON color I would put in my Michael Kelly....I'd like a K3 BLACK coating for that one. |

I'm up in the air about these.
I saw them for sale yesterday, and I was definitely attracted to them, and trying to figure out which color would be best on each particular guitar.
Then it struck me what an old school type nostalgia guy I am.
Think of a classic Harley with cool mag wheels vs. shiny chrome spokes.
The cool mags are undoubtedly awesome, but the spokes just look right.
Now, then. That's just me, and my personality. not the same for every body. |

the only problem I've had with the DR coated strings was that the high e would slip out of the block on a floyd rose trem. Im guessing that with the slick coating and the thin string it couldn't get a good grip on it. YMMV though
other than that. i liked em. the coating did come off where i picked the strings at, but nowhere else. |

but thats the point. these have a new coating technology. not supposed to come off under any playing conditions. well see. my trial set should be here tomorrow. hopeful with everything else going on i can give some impressions or at least pix... |

I went to G.C. to buy some strings Sunday. I thought that I'd get one set, just for laughs.
They didn't have them, so I was pleased to get a "normal" set. |

I'm going to GC today to replace my cables. If they have them, I'm going to buy yellow and also orange, and just mix and match them from the different packs. On a red guitar too. |

That is a great look on that guitar. The color really sets it off. You should have cleaned your bridge though, EEWWWWWWW. Q-tips are cheap dude. |

i have no complaints about the tone. i dont know if i could tell the difference between these and the ernie balls i just took off. they seem to have a really good tension to them compared the the EBs.

He said bridge bro. Your floyd rose is dusty as hell! I do understand the beater aspect, but every floyd deserves some TLC. |

Yeah I hear ya. I have a rusted old 80s floyd on my Kramer, looks bad, but hey it kind of works, despite the fact I don't do the whammy thing. It holds the strings, enough for me! |

after some serious play time, i really like these strings. i have however noticed the slightest loss of coating on the high e/b strings. just where the meet the frets. other than that, still good! |

so after many a day playing with these strings i was a little disappointed to find most of the coating came off the high e string and spots here and there on the other strings in the picking area. i emailed DR with my comments and they offered to send me a new pack of them plus any pack of regular DRs. its also interesting to note that their statements such as "coating will not come off under any normal playing conditions" have recently been removed from the website. do they last longer than other coated strings? sure. but if you thrash your strings it doesnt really matter. |

I wonder if they would be okay for a bass player who uses his fingers. |

i do think the coating is best suited for larger gauge strings and it seems to stick better to wound ones. I dont know. for the most part they still look cool. they hold up well except around frets and can be worn fron shredding albeit not unreasonably too easily |

DR is going to inspect them. i have to send them my strings and then ill get the free ones.
most of the coating is still on the strings and they do still look good. lets be realistic unless they can make the metal itself colored i dont see colored strings ever being 100% but these are at least a decent step forward.
the strings themselves play really well too. i did mention to DR that they are a bit overpriced for the actual amount of playtime without coating loss.
maybe they need examples of real players using the string and not a machine. they need data to make things better. ill try to get some pictures up. |

I don't know if you know this or not, but a lot of us change strings weekly and when gigging, EVERY show. So this coating would last just fine. If they didn't last you after 2 weeks and you have played a bit, this is what I would consider normal wear. They are neon coated strings. In my opinion the whole point is to look unique on stage with something like this. If that is the case it would be known they would be changed frequently. I dunno, guess that is how I see it. If I were to use them and played 30 shows then I would have 30 sets if not more just in case. |

yes. know it and lived it.
imo with the playing i have done and the statements DR made im less than impressed.
i played for two weeks yes but far from straight through. thats why i sent them a positive cronstructive email.
i didnt bash their product and say "DUDEZ YO CRAP STRINGZ CANDT HANLE DA BROOTALZ GIMME FREE SH$T!" they were happy to have the feedback and seem to be genuinely interested in inspecting my strings so ima send them.
I wasnt expecting a reply much less an offer of free strings. |

just sent an email to friend of mine who's a DR rep in NJ... he's gonna let me know where actually physically has them.
edit: update! that was quick... my buddy wrote me back & said this...

No stores have them just yet, they're being shipped out either the end of this week or next week. But I'm sure the regular NJ stores will carry them. |

Umm, my 1981 G&L still has the original strings on it and they sound great. (Dry hands and I wipe them down after each gig.) I don't like bass strings until they're broke in, like for a year. Honest! |

What does the mean? You gig very often and change strings every show? If you know that, then string wear like that should't be a surprise to you. I tried their Black strings once. The finish lasted ONE show. Not a few days. ONE show.

Like you I wash my hands before a gig and I have neutral PH. My strings NEVER rust. I can leave them for a month or two or longer. However they do loose their brightness and develop flat spots on the bottom from frets. So due to that I switch more often. I can hear the difference. But like the wireless Vs. cable argument I posed, I could be crazy. |

it means that i was in a band and played many a show and changed many a string.
mostly for fear of a snapped string mid song not appearance. i have never had string wear like this coated or not. but at the same time its not really wear. the strings under the coating are fine.
you say i shouldn't be surprised but i never said i was either. just disappointed but that my feeling. i dont know what to tell you but i feel like we are starting to bicker and all i wanna do here is share my experiences with the strings to inform others interested in buying them. thats all |

I thought the same thing... I can keep strings on a guitar for 10-20 years. That's with playing every pinch harmonic you can think of (you think Zakk is bad it's an almost annoying habit I have picked up for the last 2 years) and constant vibrato shake when my arm cooperates. I think I have broken one string in the last 30 years and that was on a Floyd after the high E slipped off
I clean my strings after every use and my hands never sweat while playing. It's funny, I don't even recall ever having a dead string either. I just change them when I feel like giving a particular axe a thorough cleaning |

No worries, just stating the obvious that neither of us is debating. I had the same issue with their black strings though. I am not surprised this happened. If would be cool if it didn't though. |

ARISE THREAD FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE!!!!!!
Greetings and welcome Dave.
They are a thing for a time and place...nice to have the option.
I generally like how they last, yes the stuff flakes off. Tone is ok/meh. I had a couple high E's break and they don't sell singles which sucks. That said, sometimes you need colored strings.

Ace, I see your post and raise you:

Been using them for 2 years. Ive used the green and orange so far. I love them, slightly less bright than the DDT's (65 gauge ones anyway) and they last long but the coating shows some signs of wear after a while. I'm a heavy handed picker. However, there is no ral flaking just some light powder that isn't too easily seen. |

You got it brother! Huge fan but I just really love the look. The green photos weren't so great but here's what I have:
