Finally dropped the Duncan Slash Alnico II in my Les Paul BFG tonight. It arrived on Friday and to my sheer annoyance, I realised it had a classic pickup mounting leg height. As standard the LP BFG doesn't come with mounting rings, and shorter legged Burstbuckers, I had to wait for a set to arrive before I could fit it. We literally just eyeballed it up, drilled it and screwed it down. It's pretty spot on . I've also ordered a SD SP90-1 to replace the Gibson P90 (which will be for sale soon, if anyone is interested).
I also took the time to rejig the whole of the control cavity. Replaced all the crummy Gibson 250k pots for nice CTS 500k ones, and used Orange drop caps. I removed the killswitch the BFG comes with (as I can get the same effect by rolling the volume off one of the pickups) and wired it all up 50's style. I did a hell of a lot of research into the 50's style wiring and MAN what a difference. I've temporarily put the Gibby P90 back in so I can have the use of my guitar while I wait for it's replacement, but it may never get changed! It's SO much better now! Anyone with a recent model LP should definitely consider upgrading to 50's style wiring and using better quality components.
Sorry for my waffle. I'm going to sleep now. |

The APH-2's are great pickups and with 500k pots they really open up. |

Good for you. Looks great. I have to agree with you, I hate that kill switch. The wiring job you did is much more useful than the stock wiring job. Again, great job and good for you for putting that much thought into it. |
