Thanks.
My first impressions:
Action is very low with no buzzing. Stays in tune even with aggressive dive bombing.
The neck is pretty much a standard C-Shape. The board is listed as ebony, but it must be a pretty low grade. The grain isn't as tight nor is it as dark as other ebony boards I've had. Frets were finished impeccably. Tuners are Grovers.
I'm not a big fan of EMG's, but they sound pretty good in this guitar. I'll still probably replace them with a set of Dimarzios.
The electronics feel cheap, which surprises me seeing that Dean went to the trouble of putting EMG's and an original Floyd in this guitar. What did the cheap electronics save them? $10? The three way switch doesn't work properly, and I don't like the feel of the pots, so I'm just going to rip everything out and replace it with some quality Stew Mac parts when I change out the pickups.
Sounds decent plugged in. Seems like it is going to make a great gigging axe. Plays well and stays in tune, but inexpensive enough to not worry about getting dinged up in bars. |

"darkness" of ebony doesn't have anything to do with its grade. tightness of grain, however, does.
I can show you some pieces of white striped ebony worth a fortune. :p |
