... the term "super strat"?
Specifically, not only what you associate with it, but also how would you define it.
I'll chime in later, but I'd like to hear some other peoples responses first. |

I think of either a dual humbucker, or a single humbucker strat with a floyd.
Not necessarily just a Fender either, IMO Ibanez RG's are superstrats, and all the like. |

I think of an orginal Stratocaster (S/S/S) that's been modified to better facilitate hard rock playing feel and sound. How it's done and to what extent doesn't matter. |

Indeed. I immediately think about a random assortment of colors. |

Superstrat. Same to me as an asymmetrical double cut (1 horn longer than the other) with at least 1 humbucker. (i.e. both electrics in my sig) |

To me a "superstrat" has come to mean a single or dual humbucker guitar, with a floyd, an ultra thin neck, and often times an outlandish finish. I've often associated it with Hair Metal.
I somtimes wonder though if, say, a hardtail dual humbucker strat shape in black or a flaed maple top in red or black counts - such as, say, a ESP M1001fm. |

If you think about the fact that the first "Super Strats" were modded Fenders, because no one made "Metal" Strats back then... The M1000 would still count. Basically any modded S/S/S Strat made to handle shred guitar is a "Super Strat". Even if all you did is replace the single coils with single coil sized humbuckers. A FR isn't needed. Jake E Lee played Super Strats and they had regular fulcrum trems. |
