I've been using the app Tab Toolkit on the ipad for quite some time now. It's an app that displays tabs as well as plays them for you.
You can download tabs from within the app in guitar pro and powertab format; as well as plain text. You can buy tabs in the app or use the built in browser as I do to find free tabs on web sites.
It then can play the tabs (all instruments). You can mute the different instruments so that you can play along. I mute the guitar parts and then play along with the song.
The audio re-creating is pretty darn good.
You can also change the tempo, and loop parts of a song.
It's very versatile and a fantastic learning tool.
I also use my iPad with the digitech ipb-10 which is also a really good use of tech.
Just thought I'd share.
