"Bowling for Soup" video
by tess on Mon Nov 01, 2004 8:57 am
I saw a video this morning by these guys and it's pretty funny and very clever. Song is called "1985" and it is a take off on the biggest videos of the 80's, including Robert Palmer, Motley Crue, Whitesnake, etc.

Here is the link to their website where you can play it.

AllofMp3.com
by mpire on Mon Nov 01, 2004 10:13 am
This is a Russian mp3 retailer that has a huge amount of positive press. Their model is you pay per MB, eg $5 for 500MB and the songs you pick are encoded at the bitrate of your choice so you can get more songs at lower quality etc...

From the research I've been doing it appears that it would be legal for US consumers to use. They pay artist royalties via the Russain ROMS agency. It's legal to buy music abroad subject to local laws and to import it (Very distilled summary of the actual process), even though you couldn't currently set up a store that runs the same way in this country.

Payment is handled through another russian company cyberplat.com which has also received a lot of positive attention for trustworthiness.

Interesting article here: http://www.museekster.com/allofmp3faq.htm#Is%20Allofmp3%20legal?

So, has anyone used this service and have anything to say about it?

At the moment, I don't think I will use this. It just sounds too good to be true.

DAVE MUSTAINE:METALLICA'S "ENTER SANDMAN WAS A RIPOFF
by BULL on Mon Nov 01, 2004 10:57 pm
On Blabbermouth.net you'll see the comparsion to 1989 Excel's "Tapping Into The Emotional Void" To METALLICA'S very popular "Enter Sandman". I'm not surprised at all really just listen to alot of Metallica songs there so called influences there always ripp them off. Diamond Head etc, there songs are very very close to the ones they ripped off so it dont surprise me at all.
So how has the biggest Dean collection????

So who has the most Deans? Does anyone have over 20 Deans?

My buddy Jon has over 60 guitars (almost all Les Pauls, no Deans...GRRR).

Delonge Strat I picked up
by Lon on Tue Nov 02, 2004 3:54 pm
Got it at lunch today and it'll be on ebay before the night's over! Gotta turn this one around fast. Haven't even had a chance to get it home and clean it up yet. Other than a very small scuff (1/8") it's basically mint. On top of that, the pawn shop gave me a Fender red label fitted hard case that went with another Strat they had just put out today.

Favorite band names
by Faust on Tue Nov 02, 2004 5:26 pm
Sometimes I hear a band name that makes me crack up... or makes me #$%@ up and listen. The band name is like a book cover. It can draw you in or repel you... or just make you laugh your A$$ off!

Some of my all time favorite names are actually not of bands that I listen to. Just classic names like:

Throbbing Gristle
Rint Zykle and the Speed Queens
Garage a Trois
Strong Donkey
The Ever Lovin' Oven Covin

These are just a few that I can think of right now that make me chuckle. Got any good ones?

Dean book or DVD????
by Jag Panzer on Tue Nov 02, 2004 7:04 pm
Are there enough fanatic Dean owners to warrant a book or DVD?

I'd love a book that had all the catalogs and ads reprinted. Plus various photos and stories.

A DVD with factory tour, Dean Z interview and video of Dean collections would also be very cool.

DAMAGE PLAN TONIGHT !!!
by Brave Dave on Tue Nov 02, 2004 7:39 pm
We are off to see Dimebag Darrell and Damage Plan tonight !! With all the talk on the board, he's obviously checking out Dean guitars, so I got ahold of Dean and he hooked us up for tonight. On my way home tonight, my cell phone rang and it was Dean on a threeway call with Dimebag himself. They were already at the club and he invited Mrs. Brave Dave and myself to come hang with him and the rest of the band on the bus before the show before the show. I am taking him a DOA T-shirt. Maybe I can get him to wear it onstage. Anyway, I plan to get some pics and I will post them in the newsletter in a couple of days.

RIK EMMETT - Former TRIUMPH Frontman Forming New Rock Project

MelodicRock.com report that former TRIUMPH guitarist and frontman RIK EMMETT is apparently working on a new rock project with VON GROOVE's Mike Shotton.

Emmett has posted the following comment in the members only area of his website, www.rikemmett.com: "...just wait 'til you hear the stuff I'm working up with Mike Shotton which is very much in a Led Zep, Velvet Revolver, SRV/Kravitz kind of ballpark so far [and SOOO much fun!]. Song titles so far include - ‘Liberty’, ‘Cryin' Shame’, ‘Midnight Black & Blue’, ‘Find Your Way’ and ‘Addicted’."

Bridge Piezo system?
by kevphol on Fri Nov 05, 2004 1:35 pm
Anybody using a piezo system that can comment on any pos/neg aspects? I'm particularly interested in the LR Baggs type bridge for replacing a tun-o-matic (LP-style) bridge. Also interested in comparing wiring the piezo to a switch on a one-input jack guitar versus having two input jacks so you can run the piezo to a separate amp or use a Y cable for a blend.

It's a Roland VS-880EXHD..
by throbgod13 on Fri Nov 05, 2004 10:54 pm
i finally decided on a HD studio.. i was thinking of the Fostex MD-8, i like the idea of it being so small.. but, they are going for 200-240.00 on eBay.. i stopped into a local pawnshop and found a Roland VS-880EXHD.. got it for 325 total.. it has the expansion effects card in it.. sweet..

now i have to get an external burner for it..

it's more than i was looking for, but for 100 bucks more than the MD-8, and all the stuff that it has..

now, if i could only play well enough to record something.. Wink

i also found a Tascam DA-20mkII DAT rack recorder for 150.00.. it's missing the remote, and a Knob.. but it works.. i'm thinking of getting it, too..

does anyone know how to find out the total hours on it??

this shop also has a Sony and a Yamaha MD recorder(s) and a Tascam tape 8-Track.. they have a bunch of pro-audio stuff too..
The passing of my Father
by n-turbo on Fri Nov 05, 2004 11:26 pm
The passing of my Father. My father taught me many things about life. Most of the lessons were from his actions because his job kept him for long hours and many weekends when I was young. What spare time he had away from work he gave to family, doing more work, fixing cars, helping with the chores at my grandmother’s house. In his later life he did volunteer work until his health declined. He was always faithful to my mom, they were married for 42yr’s until she passed away 11/17/02. My father was a quiet man who’s actions showed his love. My father encouraged me to take up music. He supported the my school band programs and even learned to tolerate my endeavors into rock and roll. He will be missed.
Help me decide on a guitar
by frocco on Sat Nov 06, 2004 10:03 am
Hello,

I have to ask this, as I am new to guitar shopping.
I started playing about 6 months ago and now play in our Worship group at Church.

I have an ovation, and want to trade it in towards a better guitar.
I have looked at Martin DM, Taylor 310 and was also looking at a Gibson ES333.

I don't know how Dean compares to these for quality and sound.
I never see Dean advertised in Acoustic Magazine.

Anyway, what Dean should I consider?
Would you buy a Dean over the above guitars?

I need it to be an acoustic/electric or just electric.
Not sure how the electric would sound in Worship music.

Prices:
Martin: 630.00 + Fishmann pickup
Taylor: 950 + Fishmann pickup
Gibson: 1000.00
My ovation: 700.00
Dean: ?

I was lookin at the Dean Zen on the website, nice.

Thanks for the help.

BLACK SABBATH WITH ROB HALFORD (AGAIN) CD DVD
by BULL on Sat Nov 06, 2004 10:41 am
CAMDEN NJ at Ozzfest August 26, 2004 Rob Halford filled in for Ozzy that night due to him battling bronchtis. Well now the show with Halford is going to be released on nov 19th on dvd and cd though www.dnd-rock.com. This is the 3rd time Halford has sang for the mighty Sabs. The first time was in 1992 when than fronted Sabs of Ronnie James Dio refused to open for Ozzy. Reasons behind Dio not performing was that at the time Oz was picking on Dio cause of his height. Well Dio wanted no part of opening up for Oz so he left and Halford took over for 2 shows. At the time this is when Halford was about to leave Judas Priest for the first time. Anyway this should be a killer dvd.

I'll of course be wearing my Dean-gear to spread the word!

Buckethead and Les Claypool
by Faust on Sun Nov 07, 2004 10:48 am
I just returned from Portland where I saw the "Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains" show. I figured with Claypool and Buckethead I could not lose..... I was wrong. Sad

All they did all night was noodle endlessly with no real songs at all. It seemed as if they had never played together and were just trying to fill time. They never even got out of the same damn key! It drove me crazy!

They had some weird girl with green hair open for them playing a ukalele, accordion, toy piano, sitar and a weird looking butterfly guitar. She was equally inept on all instruments and a terrible singer. It was torture. When she walked off of the stage, I honestly hoped that was the last I would see of her... but NO!... She returned to join the band later... not that it made much of a difference in the total noodle fest. At one point she was trying to accompany Buckethead with the sitar, but she sounded like she had only been playing sitar for about a month. I could tell that Buckethead was pretty annoyed.

Buckethead tore off a few good solos, but he really looked as if he did not want to be there at all. Most of the time he just paced back and forth on the stage holding his guitar. He is one of my favorites, but he hardly played.

Les Claypool sounded terrible. He should stick to frets unless he is willing to learn to play his fretless 6-string on pitch with the other instruments. His sound was trashy and garbled and his playing was extremely dull and redundant. He is off of my list. I will never pay to see him again.

The drummer... a guy called "Brain" was pretty good, but he played the same stupid funk beat all night. The beat reminded me of that really weak and lame Dave Matthews "I eat too much" song. It was nauseating! He did a drum solo which seemed to last at least ten minutes... but his beat never changed. I was praying for it to end, the way I wish somebody would take the sticks away from that annoying drummer kid at Guitar Center! He may be good, but he sure as hell is no Terry Bozzio! (somebody told me he was supposed to be one of the best in the business.... not today he wasn't!)

The keyboard player had some really cool vintage equipment, but he was pretty non-present in the mix. It was mostly just Claypool's garbled bass racket and the drummer... until Buckethead would rip out some insane solo for a few seconds and stop playing.

I would see Buckethead again if it were his own band and he were free to do his own thing. He sounded great.

This is the first time I have actually walked out in the middle of a concert and waited in the lobby for my friends. I just could not take it anymore.

I don't usually flame concerts on internet boards.... but I have to warn my fellow Deanies to avoid wasting money on this show. It was terrible.

Unfortunately, I will not get to see Damageplan or Megadeth. I am sure either one would have been better.

TRIUMPH LIVE AT THE 1983 US FESTIVAL DVD
by BULL on Sun Nov 07, 2004 11:25 am
I just picked up this at my beloved Best Buy yesterday. Its a great play all the way though. Triumph is Rik Emmett lead vocals, guitars Gil Moore lead vocals and drums, and finally Mike Levine backing vocals keyboards and bass. For those of you thats never seen Rik play guitar you just have to if you are a guitar fan. The man uses the whole neck, great riffs and solos. There song writing is top notch very very uplifting lyrics. Rik only plays a red Dean Baby Z guitar on one song by the way.

OK I'm looking for a way to convert a 1/4" plug to MIDI so that I can go directly from the geetar or amp to the computer. Anyone know of a way to do this? I know it's a cheesy alternative to a real recording system, but this computer mic just isn't cutting it anymore for me.

by krittopp on Mon Nov 08, 2004 8:28 am
Hi guys

this is my first post in this forum. So I just want to say HI Very Happy

And I also have a question. I want to buy a Vendetta 4.0 after christmas ( btw: it's my first dean ). But here comes the problem. In Germany there's only one store I know where you can buy dean guitars. And this store is round about 300 km away.....too far for a student like me Smile. so i have to order it via internet. surprisingly i haven't found one good picture of the vendetta. so.....can you give me some pictures of the trancelucent blue and the tiger eye finish?? i want to see how it looks like

Best regards

modelling amps?
by RockinB on Mon Nov 08, 2004 4:41 pm
Anybody have any first hand experience with a Vox AD60VTX or a Line 6 Flextone III+ ? I was wondering if you can get the "supposed to sound like_____" at low volumes or if the amp has to be turned up to get close. While I don't expect either of them to nail the sound of a plexi, AC30, or whatever, I figure if they can get somewhere in the ballpark, I might be more apt to try a broader range of music than I currently play. Suggestions anyone?

How to practice

I have been playing for 1 1/2 years. While I have continue to get better at playing, I think that I may not be practicing properly. I know each person practices differently, There must be some of you who would share some of their favorite tips with me. I would really appreciate any assistance from fellow Dean members. Thank you in advance.

Why Men Are Happier
by Rex Herring on Tue Nov 09, 2004 2:28 pm
What do you expect from such simple creatures!?
Your last name stays put.
The garage is all yours.
Wedding plans take care of themselves.
Chocolate is just another snack.
You can be president.
You can wear a white T-shirt to a water park.
Car mechanics tell you the truth.
The world is your urinal.
You never have to drive to another gas station because this one's just too icky.
Same work, more pay.
Wrinkles add character.
Wedding dress -- $5000; tux rental -- $100.
People never stare at your chest when you're talking to them.
The occasional well-rendered belch is practically expected.
New shoes don't cut, blister, or mangle your feet.
One mood, ALL the time.
Phone conversations are over in 30 seconds flat.
You know stuff about tanks.
A five-day vacation requires only one suitcase.
You can open all your own jars.
You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness.
If someone forgets to invite you, he or she can still be your friend.
Your underwear is $8.95 for a three-pack.
Everything on your face stays its original color.
Three pairs of shoes are more than enough.
You don't have to stop and think of which way to turn a nut on a bolt.
You almost never have strap problems in public.
You are unable to see wrinkles in your clothes.
The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades.
You don't have to shave below your neck.
Your belly usually hides your big hips.
One wallet and one pair of shoes, one color, all! seasons.
You can "do" your nails with a pocketknife.
You have freedom of choice concerning growing a mustache.
You can do Christmas shopping for 25 relatives, on December 24, in 45 minutes.
And, it makes perfect sense to own as many Dean Guitars as possible!

by CherryBurstV on Tue Nov 09, 2004 11:57 pm
hello all, haven't posted in a while.
Anyone familiar with the Gary Moore LPs. Specifically I was wondering what type of burstbuckers are in these guitars. BB#1, BB#2..??.. There are several different types. A friend bought a G.M. neck pup off ebay, and I put it in the neck position in an older LP, sounds awesome. So I'm thinking, it would sound even better in my V. But I don't know whick burstbucker this pup is. Any info?

Angry wives vs. Guitars... who won?
by Faust on Wed Nov 10, 2004 7:05 am
I got sidetracked on another thread so I thought it best to start a new one.

Anybody have a great war story of a wife who took out her shortcomings and anger on a guy's guitar?

My ex-wife got pissed off at me one day and told me she was going upstairs to smash my guitar collection. I told her she had better jump out the window afterwards and keep running, because I was going to meet her with a baseball bat at the bottom of the stairs. The guitars won that day!

We had a lot of fun Laughing

A guy I once knew told me that his ex-wife got mad at his guitar (Gibson Les Paul Custom Black Beauty) and took it out to the driveway and smashed it Pete Townshend style. He has the patience of a saint! Anybody else I know would have strangled her with the E-string while the neighbors looked on in horror. That guitar lost the fight.

Unfortunately, when women get mad at you.... I mean really mad... they want to hurt you as badly as possible. For most of us that is either a kick in the balls or an assault on our guitars.

Any good stories? Let's share! Smile

Interesting set-up on my new Czech EVO
by kevphol on Wed Nov 10, 2004 11:59 am
I've only had this guitar a few days and only played it the last two days for any length of time. The action was pretty good so I focused initially on the sound. I expected it to be bright with the thick maple cap and ebony board, but I was REALLY having to tweak my amp. The tone was almost to the point of harsh with the attack having a kind of brittle quality to it. UGH!

It also had 10s or 11s on it, and I always change strings on new guitars anyway, so I put on my usual Dean Markley custom lites (9-46). So, after I get the new strings on (it's funny how the excitement of a new guitar can impair your judgement) I realize the bridge is BACKWARDS! I never took it off when I did the string change, it was that way before. So I loosen the strings and get the bridge turned around and tune her back up. WOW! What a difference in tone...Crunch, Balls, Sweet singing lead tones, even stratish with the coils tapped...it's all here! Amazing that just strings could make that much difference... but they definitely did.

Then my attention gets back to the bridge and something still not exactly right. It's the saddles...they are all facing the same direction. Now I know standard for the tune-o-matic is for three saddles to face one way and three the other way, but I never really questioned why. Does it really make a difference? The intonation is almost dead on as is, so I really don't want to go to the trouble of turning three saddles around if there is no really good reason to do it.

All in all, I am really starting to dig this guitar!

Pictures of my python and tattoo
by transblueZ on Wed Nov 10, 2004 2:39 pm
It was clean the snake houses day, so I figured I'd get a shot or two of Blackie. He's a Blackheaded Python. They're native to Australia and quite rare in North American collections (due to Australia's animal export rules, only private bred collections or zoo's tend to have them.) There is a scene in the 2nd Crododile Dundee flick were he sneaks into the camp and throws one of these out of a snake bag into the drug dealer folks area. I have on a jacket and gloves, he bites pretty hard! And a picture of my tattoo, the blackheaded python around a sword.....ariginal artwork.....but not idea...the snake and sword thing has been done a bajllion times before.

Wall Hangers
by 1111111 on Wed Nov 10, 2004 6:28 pm
I have been pondering getting some wall hangers.....my jam room is on the small side and they look like great space savers over a stand. I see them used all the time in music stores but have always been hesitant to "hang" my guitars......is there any risk of damage to the guitar? Of course they wouldn't hang there for long periods of time......

Any comments would be appreciated.

Spoof e-mails and attempts to hijack information.
by Faust on Thu Nov 11, 2004 1:25 pm
Lately I have been flooded with a wave of stupid fake e-mails which try to get me to log onto a fake eBay or paypal website and divulge personal information. They are called "spoof" emails. They link to what looks like a totally legitimate website, but it is a ploy to steal your identity.

Watch out for e-mails which appear to be from eBay or paypal which tell you that your account information needs to be updated. Forward any such e-mails to either spoof@ebay.com or spoof@paypal.com so that the problem can be tracked by the companies.

Some of them are really obvious and will be signed:

"Sincerely, paypal department"

or they will have really bad engrish (see www.engrish.com for reference):

"If you choose to ignore our request, you leave us no choise but to temporaly suspend your account."

In any case, NEVER follow a link from an e-mail that requests any kind of account information to be updated. So far I have recieved such spoof e-mails from at least 5 legitimate companies including eBay, Paypal and Bank of America. They were all spoofs. Cheap attempts to steal personal information.

Be careful out there!

PLAYED THE NEW MESAG BOOGIE STILLETTO TODAY. POS
by BLOODROOT on Thu Nov 11, 2004 5:11 pm
OK. THEY HYPED THIS AMP TO BE CRUSHING AND SIMILAR TO THE BOGNER UBERSCHALL.

I AM CURIOUS TO WHAT AMP THEY WERE THINKING AN UBERSCHALL WAS BECAUSE THIS STILLETTO SOUNDED NOTHING LIKE ANY BOGNER AMP.

THIS IS ONE SERIOUS POS. I AM REALLY SICK OF MESA GETTING AWAY WITH THEIR MARKETING AND BLINDING THE PUBLIC WITH THEIR DIAMOND PLATE FACE PLATES. I OWNED A DUAL REC THAT WAS OK AT BEST UNTIL IT BROKE. THIS STILLETTO SOUNDS BROKEN ALREADY TO ME. FIRST OFF LETS SAY. IT DOES LOOK NICE BUT THAT IS WHAT MESA DOES. THEY WRAP THEIR TURDS IN PRETTY PACKAGING AND FORCE FEED THE HYPE DOWN YOUR THROAT. OK I PLUGGED IT IN, THINKING I WAS GOING TO RIP MY FACE OFF WITH CRUSHING GAIN. I FILP THE SWITCH AND WAIT FOR THE TUBES TO WARM UP. SALESMEN THERE THAT I KNOW FROM RIVAL COVER BAND IN THE AREA WALKS UP. HE SAYS WHY ARE YOU PLUGGED INTO THAT ? YOURE NOT GOING TO LIKE THAT AMP. SO I SAY "WHAT ARE YOU TALKING BOUT" MESA SAYS ITS THEIR ANSWER TO AN UBERSCHALL" HE SAYS "NAH MORE OF AN ANSWER TO A JCM800 BUT WITH LESS GAIN" SO I FLIP THE SWITCH AND PREPAIR TO PROVE HIM WRONG. STRUM SOME CHUNKY DROP C CHORD AND AM SO DISAPPOINTED . NO GAIN, NO TONE. JUST THIS HANUS DIODE CLIPPING SOUNDING STATICY HALF GAIN. A JCM800 AT LEAST HAS OVERDRIVE AND TUBE TONE. THIS AMP WAS HANUS. SOUNDED LIKE SOMEONE PLUGGED A REALLY BAD DISTORTION BOX INTO THEIR STEREO. ANOTHER SALESMAN SAID THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE A DIFFICULT TIME MOVING IT OUT OF THE STORE. I AGREE. THIS AMP HAS NO DEMAGRAPHICAL MARKET THAT I CAN SEE. IT LOOKS REALLY AMAZING, LIKE MESA TRIED TO COPY THE SNAKE SKIN SOLDANO SLO-100 WHICH IS A GREAT AMP BY THE WAY. BUT THIS AMP IS NOT AN ANSWER TO AN UBERSCHALL AND THEY CANT EVEN MARKET IT AS A JCM800 CLONE. I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED TO SAY THE LEAST. YES IT HAS LESS GAIN AND I AM AWARE THERE ARE PLAYERS OUT THERE THAT DO NOT REQUIRE THE GAIN THAT I AM ACCUSTOMED TO BUT BELIEVE ME, IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AN AMP WITH LESS GAIN THAT A DUAL REC THERE ARE FAR BETTER CHOICES AVAILABLE THAN THIS AMP. I WOULD BY A JCM800 ANY DAY OVER THIS OR IF I WERE A BLUES PLAYER I WOULD GET A FENDER MAYBE NOT THIS AMP. LIKE I SAID , I DONT SEE WHAT NICHE THIS AMP COULD FALL UNDER. THIS IS MY REVIEW. WORSE AMP I HAVE EVER PLAYED THROUGH

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2384&item=3759663418&rd=1

MAN I CAN REMEMBER BEING ABOUT 12 OR SO AND THIS GUITAR MADE ITS WAY INTO THE LOCAL MUSIC STORE. I HAD BARELY STARTED PLAYING GUITAR. THE LOCAL SHOP HAD THIS GUITAR IN ELECTRIC MAROON. THEY HUNG IT REAL HIGH UP BY THE CEILING AWAY FROM ALL THE OTHER GUITARS LIKE IT WAS GOLD. NO ONE COULD PLAY IT. IT HAD SOME REDICULOUS PRICE TAG ON IT. IT SAT IN THERE FOR A GOOD 5 YEARS BEFORE THEY WENT OUT OF BUSINESS. I ALMOST BOUGHT IT ROUND THAT TIME TOO. I THINK THEY WERE LETTING IT GO FOR AROUND $350 WHICH KNOWING WHATI KNOW NOW WAS STILL WAY TOO MUCH. THAT THING IS SO OBSCENE. BRINGS BACK GOOD MEMORIES THOUGH.

FUNNY THING. IM STILL THINKING OF BUYING IT , TAKING THE PICKUP OUT AND PUTTING A CLOCK BETWEEN THE NECK AND TREMELO AND HANGING IT IN THE JAM ROOM.

What does your practice consist of?
by Dischord on Fri Nov 12, 2004 6:30 am
I find that if I play scales and chords, I get bored, and put the guitar away really quickly. So what I do to practice is I throw in a setlist of songs I know how to play to stay fresh on them, and then toss in one or two I don't know how to play, so when it comes around to htem I'll be in the zone and better able to hear what they're doing and feel my way through the songs. Thus, I learn new material PLUS I practice, both pluses.

Now, my setlist currently:
King Diamond - Living Dead
Eastmann's Cure
Eye of the Witch
The Poltergeist
Mercyful Fate -Nuns Have No Fun
King Diamond - Room 17
Emerencia
Darkness
Magic
Sleep Tight Little Baby
Black Horsemen
A Mansion in Darkness
Dressed in White
Mommy
A Mansion in Sorrow
Sleepless Nights
No Presents For Christmas
Halloween
Mercyful Fate - Nightmare Be Thy Name
King Diamond - Just a Shadow
House of God
Mercyful Fate - Burn in Hell
A Dangerous Meeting
Evil
Buried Alive
The Lady Who Cries (THIS SONG IS A PAIN IN THE SPHINCTER)
Welcome Princess of Hell
Return of the Vampire 1993
Burning the Cross
Come to the Sabbath
Dischord - The Philosopher (Death cover)
Forever Darkness
Insane
Bloodlust
The Immortal
The Beaten Path
The Human Factor
Eris
King Diamond - Tea
Dischord - Supernatural
Mercyful Fate - Shadows
Dischord - Servant to Fear
King Diamond - Welcome Home
The Loa House
Mercyful Fate - Egypt
King Diamond - The Invisible Guests
Mercyful Fate - Leave My Soul Alone
Under the Spell
The Ghost of Change
AND last but not least
Kreator - People of the Lie

Plus to make it more interesting I hit RANDOM and REPEAT...so you never know what song is coming up next...so I have to react quickly and just play along...hehehe, keeps it interesting

Our new home in Bergschenhoek, about 15 km's from Delft where we live now...

I could prolly buy a posh house in the US for the money I spent on this small family home...but hey that is what the prices are over here!

here's the hallway

Image

The front of the house, it's in a row of 20 something houses...better for insulation HAHAHHA, in fact the neighbours are heating up my house...saves gas LOL!

Image

There's a couple of three layer houses and a couple of 2 layer houses, we have a 2 layer one, but we have a nice attic which can easily be used as a huge additional room.

The kichen seen from the living room..

Image

The kitchen itself...a little dirty after stripping off all the wallpaint egalising the walls and sanding em so we can paint em properly LOL

Image

Here's a part of the living room seen from the kitchen..the wall on the left is 11 meters long and I had to close and egalize all the tiny airbubble holes in the concrete!

Image

Well that's it for now....we're gonna start painting tomorrow...and then it may start to look like something!

Cheers

Well I brought home a '96 Bolt on USA Z tonight.
New strings and a preliminary eval tomorrow. Looks like import pickups. It has a chrome string plate, gold bridge(prob. been changed from stock) and the tuners have been changed to Kluson style Gold Gibsons. The ones with the "greenish" color to the buttons. It has an asymetrical 2 piece Mahogany body with a Brazillia Burst front and Black back and sides. Plastic back covers and the combo neckplate/gutar strap thing going on. Maple neck with rosewood board and pearl dot inlays. Not bad deal. Photos soon.

by deanmaniac on Sun Nov 14, 2004 2:09 pm
Yo Mark! Get yer head outta those patent forms and give me a P.M.! Wink Laughing I have two tracks to submit for the DOA cd, and Ponch says they go to you for your mastering expertise. I need to know how you want them. CDR, DAT, or even cassette I 'spose Shocked Confused One izza rompin stompin rock instrumental that even Don and Hans will dig. The other izza blues/rock song that has the opening lyrics seen in my sig. below. I actually wrote that one sitting in front of my computer with my eVo reading ths posts here... How fitting to have it on a DOA cd, eh? Wink Smile Anyway, I'm submitting two cuz I hear that there aren't a lotta people throwing tunes at this thing. I'm not saying that both should be on it(they'll end up on a cd somewhere Twisted Evil ) But if it makes the run time worth it for the project, there they are. Now c'mon you slackers out there, get some original Dean Guitar oriented music recorded for this cd! No excuses! You can get a drum machine and 4-track cassette recorder for under $500 bux these days! Twisted Evil Very Happy Cool
anybody else try these picks?
by Somerled on Sun Nov 14, 2004 8:05 pm
Heya folks. work has been keeping me too busy to visit often, but I'm still getting my playing in. Just started using this new picks. Has anybody else tried them? I've been pretty happy with the regular nylons, but have just started using some of the metal tip, and I've been really satisfied. Sound of a metal pick, with some flexibility and a decent grip. Trying to get my local stores to start carrying them so I don't have to pay shipping all the time.

Dimebag interview

Will you continue to use Washburn equipment on tour, there was a bit of an endorsement issue wasn’t there?

They made it looked like they dropped me, but mine is comin’…I haven’t done it. The ink hasn’t dried, but I’ve signed 2 new deals.

Awesome, fill me in.

I’m going with my original Dean guitar, the one we copied at Washburn, but never made it near as good. It’s the truth, they couldn’t do it. Same thing with the amps. I was forced to move, I chose to NOT renew my deal, so I got two new companies, and the quality and integrity that I deserve. I know they are good. I’m gonna also be using Crank Amps, and I’m using the ‘Revolution’ rite now live and uh, I will be playing the Dimebag Crankenstein Amp, a signature, as well.

Will the guitars and amps be on the new CD?

Oh yea! You’ll hear that motherf@#$% all over that s#%t.

So when will these guitars and amps officially be released and revealed?

When NAMM hits, you’ll se the new Dime guitar, the ‘Razorback’ – it’s comin’. The frackin’ Crankenstein too, that is monster s#%t, like a frackin’ monster truck compared to a Toyota.

of cutting heads? I think that would be FUN at DOA...see who can put their skill where their typing is!! If we do it I'm in, and I already know Dana and Bloyd can smoke me but I don't care!! I think it would be something GREAT to do to get through some of this "I can play better than you" hostility and get people to put their chops where their mouths are, plus it'd be GREAT fun!! Anyone else in? And I"m not just talking guitarists here...I'm talking a bottomender headcutting session too!!!!

What are your opinions??

Advice please!
by Ziggy on Mon Nov 15, 2004 6:31 am
I need some advice concerning an issue that'll change my future....

For a while I have suspected that my wife is cheating on me. There are numerous signs; the cellphone rings and she hangs up, when I pick up the housephone some one just hangs up, etc.
She's always out with her "friends", and when I ask, it's always someone from her work that I don't know.
U try to look for her taxi when she comes home, but she's always walking the last distance and I can hear a car take off. Maybe it isn't a taxi?
A few days ago I picked up her cellphone just to see what time it was, and se went completely mad! She told me to stay away from her cellphone, and accused me of spying on her.
Anyway, I haven't confronted her yet.
I think that deep down, I don't want to know the truth, but last night I decided to check up on her.
I decided to hide behind my car to get a clear view of the whole street and maybe see what car she arrived in.
It was when I crouched down behind the car that I saw that the entire rear wheel well was covered with rust

Do you guys think that I should just leave the car at an auto repair shop, or buy some parts and equipment and try to fix it myself?
How he did it ? :)

Some early misconceptions about guitar playing!
by Jag Panzer on Mon Nov 15, 2004 9:29 am
I had some pretty stupid ideas about guitar playing when I was a kid -

I thought that rhythm and lead guitars were separate intruments. After viewing some photos of KISS and Led Zepplin, I concluded that lead guitars were Strats and Les Pauls. Rhythm guitars were Flying V's, Explorers (basically anything Paul Stanley was playing).

A friend told me what 'depth' on a reverb unit was for. He said that it adjusted the time it took for the amp sound to reach the audience. If the stage was 20 feet from the audience, you set depth for '20 feet' and the sound was mixed perfectly. I assumed that Marshall stacks had depth that could be set for 200 yards for use in big outdoor festivals.

I remember reading the Jimmy Page hated to break strings live. I assumed that it was a safety issue. That a broken string would wildly snap and possibly hit you in the eye. I thought that this is why some musicians played with sunglasses on.

Yet another Schenker thread.
by mpire on Mon Nov 15, 2004 11:16 am
I've never really been into the classic rock, something about a lot of those 70's bands turns me off.
I did check out No Heavy Petting by UFO on the recomendation of some forumites, and I'm pleasantly surprised.

Much harder edge than the stuff I turn off on the car radio, and reminiscent of one of my favourite bands, Badlands (Jake E Lee's post-Ozzy band).. Ok that should probably be the other way around..

So what should I get next? More UFO, MSG? or Scorps?
Can anyone give a Guitars-for-investment 101?
by mpire on Mon Nov 15, 2004 11:27 am
Heard my wife talking to her folks on the phone yesterday and the subject of PRS came up. My father in law is a bright guy always looking for a good investment, so I suspect I may get some questions about collecting guitars some time soon. But then again he's retired and is the try anything type so may even be interested in playing....

We live close to the PRS factory in Maryland and they've had several reports on the local business news so that may be the source.

So what are some things to think about when buying for investment?

MICHAELS SCHENKER HAS GONE MAD AGAIN????
by BULL on Mon Nov 15, 2004 10:04 pm
Apparently he and singer Chris Logan got into fight again. (article doesnt reall state it was Schenker, but if it was anyone else you'd think they'd get the boot). On (Nov.14th)Logan left the tour Sunday night following an altercation with a member of MSG that is sadi to have left the singer with several broken teeth.Writhing on his official website Logan said of the fight, "I attacked twice from behind by a member of our tour, who big of a coward to face me from the front. I was severely injured in the process, and I can not contine under these conditions." So an old MSG singer whose back into the fold Leif Sundin. He was on '96 "Written in the Sand". (Leif is my favorite MSG singer.) Well any way you can read the story on blabbermouth.net.
Another testament to Dean quality
by Faust on Tue Nov 16, 2004 3:39 am
I was removing the EMG pickups from my Dean EVO Premium European earlier tonight to return it to passive humbuckers (Lindy Fralin) when I was dazzled by how well this guitar is built. Look at these pictures. One shows the cavity for the bridge pickup. Note the 7/8 inch thick flame maple top. The other shows the cavity for the neck pickup. Note how clean the neck joint is. This guitar is truely built better than my Les Paul Custom. I cringed when I saw the cavities in the Les Paul and what Gibson obviously does not want you to see! The cavities of the Evo are the cleanest I have seen.

What 10 CD's & 1 guitar would you take to a island with
by Vekin on Tue Nov 16, 2004 6:01 am
I used to have this as a guest book on my web page and it was interesting to see some of the answers.
Here's the deal. Without taking alot of time, in 5 minutes or so you are to be shipped to an island for the rest of your life.
• Everybody on the island has brought 10 CD's
• You can only take 10 CD'S, not your favorites right now but forever.
• You can look at the list to see what is already on the island so don't bring duplicates or the other islanders get bummed. also the entire BeeGees collection might get you fed to the sharks. You can bring Dups of the guitars though.
• So quickly list your 10 CD'S. THE ORDER IS NOT IMPORTANT!
• & one guitar.

Here is a sample of my Engl Powerball. I am using a Marshall 1960A cabinet with stock speakers. The rhythm part is from channel 3 and the lead from channel 4 (with hotter mids). There are no drums, bass, or keys on this sample. I used no effects and recorded with MXL 990 and 991 condenser microphones through a Behringer UB1002 Eurorack. I played this sample with the Metallic Black V Select with the Seymour Duncan Dimebucker in the bridge position.

David Lee Roth - the Paramedic?
by BLOYD on Wed Nov 17, 2004 10:23 am
Funny, I heard today that David Lee Roth is working to become a Paramedic. Supposedly he is in school and has already gone on over 200 emergency responses. He said that he has yet to be recognized…and that he doesn’t want to be because he doesn’t want it to detract from what he is doing.

Makes me think about all those 80’s bands that where absolutely huge…selling out arenas and on the cover of every magazine back then. I bet they thought their magic would last forever.

The funny thing is, now every morning they drag themselves outta bed to go to a schlep job like the rest of us trying to make ends meet. At least they can turn on “classic radio” on the way to work and maybe have a chance to hear that there own music is still being heard.

Wow, how things change…nothing really lasts except nostalgia Confused
Do they have great guitarists working at Dean?
by Jag Panzer on Wed Nov 17, 2004 12:40 pm
I took a tour of the St Louis Music factory a few years ago.

I talked to this one guy whose job is to sit in a booth and play all day (nice gig huh!). Amps and guitars would come in on a belt and he would play them. I suppose he's the quality control guy.

This guy was jaw-dropping good. A monster guitar player. I saw him plug into a new amp and play about 5 styles of music, all with great skill.

He told me that he's an 'average' player, that most guys around the factory are equally as good. Wow!

MSG was playing in Malmoe sweden nov 16.

I work at a radiostation here in sweden an was lucky to get an interview with Michael before the show.
We talked a lot about his music and his guitars. And I showed him my DOA T-Shirt.

I had a great time and Michaels tone is to die for.
The DEAN MSV is so beautiful!

Michael is a great guy. He is very polite and took time to speak with me
although he had to rehearse with the new singer that was called in
(Chris Logan got injured and flew back to US).
We spoke for 30 min. And he told me that his DEANs are not built as copies of his old gibsons
but original DEANs adjusted for him. And he said he liked his new guitars a lot.
And it sounds like he is telling the truth. I have never heard him play better before.

CONTRARY TO MARK LEWNS BELIEF, THERE IS NO PITCH CORRECTION ON HER VOICE, AT LEAST NOT ON THE FIRST VIDEO. THE THING THAT AMAZES ME I THINK IS THAT ALL THE PIANO PARTS WERE RECORDED ON THE CD WITH MIDI GUITAR, NOT A PIANO BY THAT LOSER THAT QUIT THE BAND. ANYWAYS, THIS MEANS SHE HAD TO LEARN THE PIANO PARTS AND SING THEM. THE SECOND VIDEO , VOCALS WERE PROLLY RECORDED OVER THE LIVE MUSIC LIKE KISS DID ON ALL THREE LIVE CD'S. EITHER WAY , SHE HAS A GOOD SET OF PIPES AND WITH ALL THE LIP SYNCERS THESE DAYS, I THOUGHT ID SHARE WHAT I FOUND.

None of my instruments currently need anything, but I've always been interested in working on my own guitars (although I've never tried it).

So what are the things that a beginner could tackle? Is installing a new pickup an easy task? Putting in a new nut?

What are the hardest things to do? Inlay work? Refinishing?

well we (friends and i) sat and waited for the limo to arrive... it did, and then we took and got in, drove down to detroit, listened to some 'deth, pretty uneventful... then, we got there, and faced a HUGE line, going around the block to another block full of people waiting to get in.... there we were confronted by a man in desperate need of 65 cents, but alas, we had no change.... so we kept going, and got in, got our tickets checked and all that good stuff, then i was confronted by a large man who then made me remove the chain from my keys, and confiscated the small carabeaner-type clips that it was attached to, almost taking my housekeys in the proces, but i was like "no no no, you may be taking my chain but you aint getting my keys!!!" so, i consequentially have to buy a new chain.... moving on, we got into the concert, with about 30 min to spare before Exodus hit the stage... so we got nice and close (close as humanly possible without meeting a security guards boot.) so we waited, and fooled around, and it was then that i noticed a shotgun mic sticking out from the wall, i thought nothing of it... and just went on...

there was a very drunk blonde woman who kept heckling both security guards, and a disabled man in front of us.... she frequently was "taking" security guards off to the bathroom, then reappearing with them 15 minutes later.... i think we all know what was happening there, (she didn't feel safe going to the bathroom alone and needed security you perverts!!! Very Happy ) so, the place starts to get full, and Exodus come on.... MAN were they good!!! i mean, i only recognised a few songs, as i am not that huge of an exodus fan, but they really did a good job, gary holt's solo's were INSANE and it sounded awesome all around..... from what i remember and recognised, they played (in no particular order)

-tempo of the damned
-war is my shepherd
-exodus attack
-toxic waltz
and a host of others who's names i could not recognise....

then, we take a trip tot he bathroom, then to get some water, and to the merchandise table (where i got a pretty cool 'deth t-shirt) and headed back to find that, other people were in our spots, and we were seperated from the rest of our group, so we fought back to our earlier position....

then, megadeth comes on..... they start out with the main riff of black sabbath with this famous quote on it.... then go straight into "intot he lungs of hell" after that, they played another song (didn't recognise it, undoubtedly off of "so far, so good, so what" {only deth album i don't own.... damn you amazon.com!!!})

then, for the next 2 and a half hours, they totally sonically raped our ears.... the playing was absolutely phenominal...

list of songs they played as far as my memory can trace them (in no particular order)

-into the lungs of hell
-skin o my teeth
-a tout le monde
-die dead enough
-kick the chair
-something i'm not
-back in the day
-hangar 18
-the scorpion
-symphony of destruction
-peace sells....but who's buying?
-sweating bullets
-trust
-rekoning day
-holy wars
-tornado of souls
-wake up dead
and a few others which elude me right now...

what was really cool, was the crowd interaction, they crowd moshed, and totally, just laid waste to each other, but just about everyone sang along.... there was definately some metallica bashing going on, especailly before the songs "something i'm not" and "back in the day"... what was really cool, was for the song "back in the day" dave brought out the members of Exodus, and they helped sing along with the crowd on the whole "oooooohhh!!" parts near the end.... it rocked, hearing the entire theatre sing along with dave.....

during the middle of the concert, a somewhat attractive, and rather gothic/vampiric chick came up to me, and proceeded to first bite my neck, and then grope me, finds out, all she wanted was a better view of 'deth, but it was an interesting time nonetheless...

Deth "closed" with peace sells (again, whole theater sanf the chorus) then proceeded to meet behind the drum rig, beofre the lights going out, and then them coming back on, for one more song, which was Holy wars, and which TOTALLY summed up the energy and attitude for that night, it rocked period.... before leavign for the last time, and after the manditroy pick-throwing/drumstick distrobution dave came out here, to tell the people that "I don't believe in telling people before hand that they are being recorded so that they will make more noise, so i am telling you this now... you have all been recorded tonight" at which point the crowd went nuts... and they all exited the stage....

as for the band itself, they did a SUPERB job especially seeing as Dave was the only person to have ever recorded any of the songs played in concert, it sounded like all of them had composed, and recorded every song played, themselves..... i especially have to give congratulations to glen drover who nailed every single solo throughout the concert perfectly.... they also looked as if they were having a genuinely good time...

so, now, sitting here, typing this to you... my body sore from headbanging and giving the horns, and ears still ringing, i have to say that this was by far the BEST concert i have ever been to... and it was one of the best birthday presents i could have ever gotten....

so there you are folks!!!

(oh yea, sone more thing, before dave exited, he said "thank you folks!!! we WE WERE Megadeth, hope you enjoyed the show!" slightly symbolic... )
need template or and old ring to send to pickup ring maker

this is the email i got from the guy at
http://www.fretsonthenet.net/

Unfortunately I don't have any dean ML pickup ring dimensions so if you would want those made, you'd have to supply me with a template or and old ring. I'd be happy to make these for you.

Does anyone have 2 extra rings they could mail the guy?, or is there a way i could get templates from Dean?
I bet theres a few people here that would like to replace the ugly cheap plastic rings with nice chrome ones.

If anyone has ideas please let me know.

tightness?
by Mailman on Fri Nov 19, 2004 12:58 am
just wondering. are all guitars with floyds tight on tension near the nut? or is this just my guitars with floyds?

cuz when comparing my my guitar with no floyd, to the one with the floyd, there is a very noticable tension which makes bending the strings a lil tougher and if anything annoying.

im asking this because i was thinking of getting an ML to replace one of my Culprits and didnt know if i should bother getting a floyd or not (since my caddy will have a regular bridge)

It's been a while since my last post here. I've been busy and so has Dean by the look of things. It's amazing to read about the return of Dimebag.

When I last posted I think I had 3 Deans in my collection. I'm up to 6 now. I aquired my first US Dean . It's an 81' Elite. Ill get some pics posted real soon.

I hope all is well with everyone. I have a lot of posts to catch up on.

Take care,

I am starting a thread for Trashburn haters like myself to vent thier frustrations over the fact that they outright stole the Dean ML image and millions of dollars in un-recoverable income from Dean.

Someone please post the interview where that A-hole from Trashburn made it sound as if they dropped Dimebag and said that the 333 was unique to Trashburn.

Get out your torches and shotguns.... We're goin' A$$hole huntin'!

A friend who is a non-Dean guy.... I'm working on converting him.... told me about the new POD XT Live. I checked it out on their website and it looks pretty cool. I am away from home a lot, so I like a good headphone modeler. I currently have an older POD 2.0 and am looking to upgrade. The POD XT Live has footswitches and an expression pedal built in....

Does anybody have one of these or has anybody tried one yet?

Ty Tabor of KING'S X. The most underated guitarist in heavy metal/hard rock today. He's also in the most underated band in that genre. Awesome melodic, songwriter, riff writer hes the whole package. Major influences on Dimebag Darrell, Dime has countless mentioned Ty influences thoughout the years. If you never heard the man play do yourslef a favor, go and get some King's X.
what you think of the Hardtail Selects.
by deanguitars83 on Sat Nov 20, 2004 11:24 pm
I'm planning on buying a new guitar soon (if things work out). And I'm leaning towards a Hardtail Select. I would just buy a USA Hardtail, but I don't have that kind of money to spend on one. So I wanna know what all of you think about the Hardtail Selects; pickups, electronics, tuners, neck, fretboard, action, etc. I'd just like to hear what some of you have to say about them. Thanks.

It has arrived and I have the first two pics. I need to take photography lessons from Jag Panzer... there is no way that I can possibly make this look as good as it does in person. The top is AMAZING!

I bought this one from Bubboon... a forum member. Thanks again for the great deal and the carefully packaged shipping. This guitar arrived packed like royalty! totally encased the case with Bubble Wrap... I would have been mortified beyond description if it showed up with styrofoam peanuts! Those peanuts area worthless mess. They migrate to one side of the box and allow the case to hit concrete when the gorillas drop the box off of trucks and loading docks... and drop it off at your door. "Drop" is the key word. Notice how UPS calls their storefronts "drop off" locations.... that's exactly what they do. They drop your guitar off of a forklift, truck, loading dock, hand truck etc.

More pics will be on the way... I need to play this F*cker!

If you were the head of the Dean advertising agency and had to pick the next Dean poster girl... who would it be?

Please post pics and explain briefly why you would choose her to endorse... or be endorsed by Dean guitars. No English lessons please! Very Happy

My immediate choice would be Lexy West.

I think she is a good choice because of her striking and unique looks. She has a very energetic and fresh look. I would put her in a swimming pool with a Time Capsule ML any day! Very Happy

More pics of her are to be seen here..... Don't worry! It's a "clean" site:

A couple of things I'd like to see
by Jag Panzer on Mon Nov 22, 2004 12:54 pm
I like to see someone make detailed miniature models of Deans. Like the ones that Todd McFarlane makes for monsters, rock stars and sports stars. Imagine something like a 10" detailed Water V sitting next to your computer.

I'd also like to see a web applet where you can make your dream Dean guitar and save the picture. Auto manufacturers have this - you pick the color, options, interior, etc and you get the photo. This would be great for Deans. I'd make a picture of a root beer colored Caddy, creme binding, 2 pickups, gold hardware.

Seeking pickup suggestions
by Jag Panzer on Mon Nov 22, 2004 6:27 pm
I love putting different pickups in my guitars. Most guys I know find a model they like and put them in all thier guitars. I like trying several different models.

Currently in my guitars I have - Duncan Hotrails, Duncan Distortions, Dimarzio ToneZone and DiMarzio Norton. I like these but I'm looking for a few options beyond these manufacturers.

No active pickups, I don't like 'em.

What about the Bill Lawrence (bought from him) L500-XL? Is the output range similar to the pickups above?

Lindy Fralin???

I'm also considering a Wolfetone Fenris.

Digital Cameras
by DizzyDean on Mon Nov 22, 2004 7:52 pm
Ok - I know NOTHING about them. As part of my companies employee appreciation program, once every 5 year anniversary, you get to pick something from a catalouge. It's my 15th year, so I gets to pick a prize!!! One of the things they have is a Digital Camera. Now, as I said, I don;t know much about them, but I know this isn't a very good one.

It's a JVC - 1.3 Mega Pixel CMOS, 2x zoom, 8 mb flash memory.

So, My question is, how good would this thing be for taking pics to post on the net. I hate not having one when I want to post some guitar pics, or something on Ebay. Would this thig be OK for something like that or is it really bottom of the line. I don't want something thats gonna look like Don's pictures!! Wink Laughing Should I just skip the camera and buy a better one...or would it be just fine for posting pics on the net??
Seymour Duncan Pickups
by deanguitars83 on Mon Nov 22, 2004 8:52 pm
Ok, I'll will hopefully end up with a Hardtail Select in a month or so and I'm already thinking ahead. If I don't like the pickups, I'm trying to figure out what I should go with. Alot of people seem to like the 59/JB combo, then I've also heard about Pearly Gates/JB. And I can't exactly go try pickups out so I'll have to go off what people say about theirs. I like to play stuff like; Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Guns N' Roses to stuff like Blink 182, Chili Peppers, Velvet Revolver, and Godsmack. So I'd just like to know a little more than what Seymour Duncan has to say about those 3 pickups, thanks, and if there are threads on these pickups specifically, sorry but I didn't find them.

Czech EVO Sunburst update
by Faust on Tue Nov 23, 2004 6:43 am
I finally made time to update my sunburst Premium EVO with Lindy Fralin pickups. I have had a set of 8K, 8.25K zebras eating up shelf space for about a year now. I bought the EVO with EMG pickups installed... which are great for high-gain shredding, but they lack the dynamic that I want in a cherryburst Les Paul type guitar. I wanted something that would sound more like a early 1960's PAF.

When I pulled out the EMG electronics, I realized that my regular sized pots were not going to fit, so I bought new "mini" pots (500K audio taper) from guitarelectronics.com. They delivered the parts long before I needed them.... they were in my mailbox in two days!

I installed the pickups in a no-frills setup with only one volume knob. I had read a brief article once about Wayne Charvel not installing "parasitic" tone controls on a lot of his guitars. It makes good sense. Having a secondary ground path through the other 500K pot effectively reduces the impedance of the tone/volume control circuit. A higher impedance volume control circuit will cause the guitar to sound brighter. Tone knobs were handy back in the old days, but using a graphic EQ it is very easy to "tame down" the tone. The "tone" knob on my EVO now sits on a disconnected pot. I also installed a brand-new all gold jack to replace the EMG one which was silver in color.

The result... astonishingly great tone! I can get a very cool early Les Paul tone from this guitar with great harmonics! The pickups are very defined and responsive and they sound good through most every amp model on my Line6 AX2. Never too much output, but always enought to have a nice warm presence even when using a lot of spacy digital effects.

Best of all.... My EVO now looks and sounds the way an EVO should... Evolved from Vintage Origins!

Image

I posted these pice in another thread, but I wanted to show again how clean the cavities on the EVO are. The neck joint looks like it was cut by a laser! Also note the 7/8" thick maple top. These are extremely well built guitars.

Cool Message from Dime on Damage Plan site
by Vekin on Wed Nov 24, 2004 5:17 am
Maybe this was already posted if so I missed it but this is the message on the main page of Damage Plan Web Site. Some Great words about Dean!
It Reads

MESSAGE FROM DIME...

"Contrary to the press release issued by US Music, in which the way it was worded, came across that I was dropped from their company, which is not the "TRUTH" at all. The "TRUTH" is... I left US Music. US Music asked me to renew my contract and I chose not too, for many, many reasons... I took the Washburn thing as far as it could go, but I needed to move on to get where I want this to be. Dean Guitars is the answer to moving forward. I have always believed in quality and integrity, and with the craftsmanship that is put into a Dean guitar, along with a neck design, that is so comfortable, was the thing I always loved about my original guitar, my blue lightning bolt Dean ML. This is the first time Dean Z and I have gotten an opportunity to work together. It's really awesome to be working with new guitar designs and some really killer new paint jobs, along with a master guitar builder that I have always admired. Wait till you get a load of the Razorback that's headed your way! With the combination of the "Master Builder" and the hot-rodded, Dime-ized version , we have a new line of bad ass Dime Guitars that I'm really excited about! Well Dean B. Zelinsky is back and so am I! Going to Dean is like comin' home for me! I really believe my fans and any guitar players out there will respect the quality and craftsmanship that goes into a Dean guitar as much as I do. Trust me... you can see, hear and feel the difference for yourself.

I love the last few lines! Go Dean!
If Dean could come up with a sented guitar they would have all the senses covered. Laughing
Even though it looks like the Dean From Hell might have some odor to it!!

I'm Taking my DOA ML to the show tonight Wed. in MA in hopes of getting him to sign the headstock. My DOA Caddy is signed by Dean & Elliot, I figure Dime would be fitting for my ML... Looking foward to the show. Shadows Fall & The Haunted also. Great show all around
I'll let everybody know how it was Thursday.

Peace, Kevin...

Bad Parrot
A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity.
John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to "clean up" the bird's vocabulary.
Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder.
John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute. Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot,
John quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arms and said, "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior."
John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued, "May I ask what the turkey did?"

If you could design your own limited edition Dean
by Jag Panzer on Wed Nov 24, 2004 1:56 pm
If you could design your own limited edition Dean (say 50 or 100 guitars) what would yours be? Keep in mind that you'd have to sell them, so it's a bit different then simply picking something that you'd personally like.

Mine -

I'd have a 2-pickup Caddy with the finish of a classic Les Paul Goldtop, complete with mahogany back. The guitar would be fully bound.
A review on my EURO CADILLAC PREMIUM
by audiomad2000 on Wed Nov 24, 2004 2:11 pm
well lets see,...1st off the toggle switch broke off in shipping,...(that sucks ),....
i opened the case and there she was ,....what a beauty!!!,....the first thing i did was i ran to the local music store and bought strap locks for safety,....my first impression was that the neck was real nice very comfortable great c shape and i like how it tapers,...(i like my kramer neck a bit more,..as well as my 66' gibson melody maker/sg a bit more because they are not as wide,...) BUT!!!!!!,....the finish on the neck of the cadillac is second to none!!!,...its smooth like glass and makes for a very very smoooooth feel it just screams quality!! and as far as finish on the neck it completely blew away my other gtrs,....(except my fodera which is a bass gtr and just stupidly priced,...but its pretty much on par with it,...with the nod going to the fodera ,...but just look at those redicoulous $$ on those and you'll understand)
ACOUSTICALLY my gibson is louder,.... the cadillac wasnt as loud as my other gtrs either (without the amplifier) BUT!!!! when i pluged this cadillac into my amp,..(line 6 ) i couldnt believe the tone on this gtr,.....everything sounded INCREDIBLE!! (i love the blues and boy this gtr has plenty to give and plenty to spare) ,...the notes just rang out and did what my other gtrs could'nt between sustain and tone,....just the perfect tone!!(o.k,...o.k. nothing is perfect in this world, but damn this thing was as close as i have EVER gotten with tone, being sooo good that i was in disbelief for a second' then my eyes and ears were in ecstacy,...i was sweating like crazy it got me sooo crazzzzy),....i was in heaven,....the pups sound sooo balanced ,....chords shimmered and sparkled with beautiful detail,...it didnt get muddy on me, not even on the rythm pup,....it just sounded awesome and better than all my gtr's ,....(just to be fair' all my gtrs sound realll nice but this gtr kicks major a$$$$)
i picked up the gtr at different points of the night ,...by the 3rd time i picked it up i was just hanging out on my chair (laying back on it)and started chilling out and jamming, nothing intense just some blues licks ,.....my first impression was ,....WOW,.. this gtr sits soooo well while i'm laying back in the chair ,...then after a little bit i noticed how all of the sudden i wasnt even thinking of the gtr's playability ,.... & the cadillac and i bonded ,.....and i was like,... whew this gtr is awesome!!!!! (<<thinking in my head),....
i was barely able to watch t.v. ,....i just kept looking at the quilt top (when it was on the gtr stand),.....it reminded me of slashes amber quilt top les paul that he has (which was custom made for him by this guy back in the day, i think his name was peter max ,....like the artist but i'm not exactly sure anyhow that guy told me when i called him that he had this special "old as hell "mahogoney that he used for the les paul ,.....the prices for a basic paul from him was 5000.00$$,....),....anyhow that gtr was just a dream i knew i couldnt have ,....BUT!!!!! now this gtr is like the greatest thing that has happened to me in a while,.....it's by FARRRRR the best gtr i now own,. hands down!!!!
compared to a paul reed smith custom/24 i had (w/10 top, bird inlays,..wide thin neck, which i didnt like,) it was a real nice gtr pretty much a one of a kind ,....the guy who bought it ran out of the house so i wouldnt change my mind ,..lol,....(i eneded up selling it to buy some recording eq.,).....
well the cadillac is MUCH NICER and IMHO a better gtr all around,....the PRS had killer tone but so does the cadillac and the cadillac is juat a more solid feeling gtr ,...more solid than all of my gtr's,....
the only flaws, was right above the rythm pup on the end of the fretboard (not on the fretboard)between the pup and the fretboard (that tinnny space) didnt look finished and polished like the rest of the gtr. no big deal ,....thats such a minor deatail that its almost not worth mentioning,....and on the top was a minor flaw ,....again too minor too make any kinda fuss over,....
the mop on the neck and headstock was top notch ,....MUCH MUCH better than most gtrs i've seen,....including gibson, prs,....ect...
thanx to the board and to 60s rocker for alll the information i was able to get,..and to DEAN for such a rockin gtr for the $$,....i feel like i won a lottery with this thing,...lol,.....
sorry for the looooong post

JAG PANZER's MARK BRIODY Lands Endorsement Deal With DEAN
by Todd_the_Viking on Wed Nov 24, 2004 10:22 pm
http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=29587

Mark Briody a founding member, guitarist and main songwriter for Colorado-based heavy metal band JAG PANZER has landed an endorsement deal with Dean Guitars. Joining the ranks of fellow Dean endorsers and guitar legends Dimebag Darrell and Michael Schenker, Mark had this to say, “I am very pleased and proud to be a Dean guitar endorser. I used Deans on all the early JAG PANZER recordings and it's great to be playing them again." To view Dean Guitars' webpage on Mark Briody click here.

Century Media Records released JAG PANZER's "Casting the Stones" CD in October of this year. To listen to "Battered and Bruised" click here.

Century Media Family artists Nergal of BEHEMOTH, and FIREBALL MINISTRY are also endorsed by Dean Guitars.

DIMEBAG AUTOGRAPHED GUITAR AND PHOTOS FROM SHOW!
by Vekin on Thu Nov 25, 2004 7:55 am
Yea Baby!!! Went to see Damage Plan last night in Worcester, MA .
The Haunted opened the show. Good band. Shadows Fall and Damage Plan are Co-Headlining and swaping the 2nd & 3rd spots tonight Dime played 2nd. They put on a smoking show. Dime changed guitars every song pretty much and played a total of 5 different Deans. He wore his shirt with the huge Dean wings on the back the whole show. Everytime he turned to face his amps you just saw this Dean billboard on his back, it was great.
I brought my DOA ML down to the show in hopes of getting it signed, so as soon as they went off stage I left the theater so I had time to run to my car get the git and intercept him by the bus. I was hanging out by the load out door talking to the drum tech and he said he wanted one of the T-shirts I was wearing. I own a BBQ restaurant in NH and we have shirts that read "PETA ... People Eating Tasty Animals" I told him if he could get me to Dime so I could get my dean signed I would hook him up with as many shirts as he wanted! He said OH God! Dime loves to talk about those Deans. He told me he would see what he could do. Shortly after that Dime walks out the side door of the theater where I was standing and walks up to me and says " Hey I hear you want me to fire up that Dean for ya" He pulled my ML out of the case and said "s#%t I got one just like this." I said, I know thats why I brought it. I told him to sign the front of the headstock with the gold paint pen I had and he said the front? "s#%t now I'm gonna have to sign it all pretty and s#%t just like Dean does!" As you can see by the photo below (taken in my scanner. I couldn't find my cam anywhere.) It looks great, like a design that was supposed to be there. He said "Dean would be proud." He said anything else you want me to fire up bro and I said yea I got a couple of 8.5 x 11 photos I'd like to frame. I pulled out the photos below and he said s#%t man how the hell did you get these so quick are you part of that DOA or whatever? Hell Yeah I told him and he signed both of the photos with the Dean wings as shown. He gave me a big hug / head butt kinda thing said I gotta fly jumped into a waiting cab and left. Nobody else was around because Shadows Fall was still playing. I sacrificed seeing them so I could leave early but well worth it.
On my way to the car I bumped into Vinnie Paul his Brother & drummer and had him sign the outside of my case. Cool night. Great Thanksgiving Present! Nice Guy!

Thanks for the Photos Dean & Dave.

Hope Everybody has a great Thanksgiving! Peace Kevin...

What a cool lil amp. Solid state yes but it kicks the mess out of a 59'er-JB guitar through my Mesa Cabinet! My Korina Z is Judas Priest in my room tone. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

As a stand alone amp not much there with the tiny speaker but with a big cab it is amazing. A friend of mine loves his for the booster output and the recording output. The manual is very helpful and I cant wait to run it a little bit more in a minute. Laughing

well i just got back from the music store. I tried the randall warhead X2, the peavey XXX head, the XXX combo, the XXL head an combo, the randall Rh200, a marshall or 2... and i just cant find the ultra heavy chunky palm muted roar i want...when u play open strings they all soud good.. but when u palm mute and play some pantera its just bassy, but not crunchy if ya know what i mean... i guess i gotta take alota time to screw with them and find the best sound... but does anyone have any other suggestions for amps?
that dont cost an arm and a left nut
has the Dimebag Pickup issue been resolved?

who else thought it sucked?
i mean, it was cool to see Larry David cuz he rules, but it wasnt even really a reunion. it was more of a documentary. i thought theyd have em all on the old set at least like Married With Children did a few years back but no, didnt even get that satisfaction.

eh, i still watched it, lol
Shake hands with the hands that make it happen.
by Faust on Thu Nov 25, 2004 9:55 pm
I was reminiscing today about the first concert that I ever went to. I was in high school and extremely broke, so I never could get tickets to anything. Some girls I knew from school wanted to see Night Ranger and I was not interested, but their parents agreed to pay my way if I would give them a ride and be a bodyguard. I thought "well at least I can see Brad Gillis play"... "Speak of the Devil" by Ozzy was my favorite album and he just ripped those Black Sabbath tunes up!

After the show I bolted out the door so that I could watch the crowd pour out and find the girls. They had rushed the stage and I lost them in the madness. I was standing next to the Austin City Coliseum and Brad Gillis walks up to me... he is sticking his finger in his ear and asking me if it was loud out in the audience. We started talking a little and he was a really cool and down to earth guy. I introduced myself and we shook hands. He signed my ticket stub and asked me a few questions about Austin... it was pretty cool. Then he got rushed by a ton of screaming teenagers.

This was the first time I had met a "Rock Star"... and he was a totally cool, down to earth guy. Very Happy

I went home and practiced my bass like never before. I was stoked.

What was your first handshake with a favorite player?

Review - Sarasota 12
by SymphonicTank on Fri Nov 26, 2004 2:56 pm
I wanted to take a minute and offer a review of an axe that has had little or no review/comment in the forum or elsewhere.

Thanks to Dave at B&T (great guy to do business with), I'm now the proud owner of a Dean Sarasota 12!

Where to start:

-1 7/8" fretboard - can you say "easy to play?" The guitar came perfectly setup - no fret buzz anywhere on the neck, and plays like warm butter. I was instantly amazed that I could pick this thing up, do a minor tuning and then launch into old standards that I haven't played on a 12 in some years. Very, very nice.

-Flamed trans-amber finish - great top on this guitar, and the cherry/brown finish on the mahogany back/sides & neck give a nice contrast to the top. No finish flaws/blemishes whatsoever. Great binding on the body/fretboard, and the bound "slash" cutouts vs. the more traditional F-holes make this guitar look unique. As always, the abalone headstock logo/wings and marker dots are superb.

-TONE! - great range of tones with this guitar! The zebras are not coil split like my Caddy or Evo, but with a 12, this isn't a necessary feature. With the pickup selector in center (both pups engaged), the tone blend rivals any Ric I've heard/played. Using the neck pup has lots of low/mid body, and of course, the bridge pup has a jangly treble to it. I know a lot of you folks don't like the zebra pups, and obviously, there are better pups out there, but I find them to be a very good all-purpose, quiet, semi-high-output pup. I also like the look of the zebras in contrast to the beautiful tops on Dean electrics. Lean and raw meet class, style and distinction.

Not a lot else to add, but I'll toss some pics up when I can.

Did I give Dave and B&T his plug yet? Well, he deserves all the kinds words said about him here on the forum. He went out of his way to get this axe out the door last Friday so I would have it before Thanksgiving, and it arrived securely packed with great care.

Dean Guitars (yes, even the MIKs) deserve every bit of rave they get as well.
Hostile crowds?
by Ziggy on Fri Nov 26, 2004 5:02 pm
I found this little video clip of Nickelback cancelling their show during the second song.
The reason for cancelling is said to be a few beers thrown by someone in the audience.

What's your opinion on this?
Is it ok to cancel a concert and let 99.9% of the crowd down because of a few idiots?
Should bands accept hostile crowds?

The clip can be found here

Favorite Caffeine!
by Faust on Fri Nov 26, 2004 10:53 pm
OK... I am a caffeine junkie. I drink more coffee than a busload of beatnics.

Who remembers a generic soda that used to be sold at Safeway grocery stores called "The Skipper"? It was about 99 cents for a six pack and had a slogan on it that read "The Fruity Nutty Cola With A Little Bit More". Laughing We used to drink tons of this stuff and then play hours of totally random acid speed metal improv.

The practice of drinking a lot of Skipper was called "Skippin".

"I would love to change the strings on your guitar for you... but I'm skippin way too hard right now..."

Bought my third dean yesterday at Guitar center. Its a used avalache. It was on sale for 50 bucks cause no one wanted it. It was in the used guitar section hiding in the midst of all the other guitars but kinda in the back. No one wanted it and I thought it needed a home. The neck cerainly is thinner than one of my strats. But I wil get used to it considering I couldnt pass up the deal.

Beringer V-amp 2
by CherryBurstV on Sat Nov 27, 2004 12:34 pm
I heard someone mention in another thread about the V-AMP 2. Does anyone have any experience with these. I'm looking for something that sounds good through a pair of head phones. I won't be using it on stage or anything. The wife and the baby go to sleep pretty early, so that leaves me with some free time at night, but I can't exactly open up the Splawn. Are the sounds usable? Good clean and dirty sounds? I dont need Gary Moore tone or anything, just something that sounds good. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Headstock Timelime
by X6StringerX on Sun Nov 28, 2004 2:47 am
Hey guys. I've never considered myself to be a Dean oracle, so I'm not above asking for assistance, lol. I'm interested in getting a Czech EVO or possibly an older Caddy with a smaller headstock...I just can't deal with the huge V, sorry. Well, I shouldn't say I CAN'T deal with it....I like it on the Z's, ML's, and V's. Anyways, to get to the point, I was wondering if someone could post a quick rundown of the headstock timeline for Dean. I've heard of "shrimp forks" and "duck bills" but I'm not sure I could identify one if I saw it. If any of you guys can post pics and years, that'd be great.

That's right Dean-o-philes...the Merchant Marine Vessel the Sealand Explorer is anchored at San Pedro in LA!!! And for those that didn't know, I was living on that vessel from Busan Korea all the way here, and Joe, Japan is beautiful!!!! Though we went between two of the big islands (not sure their names but they said Tokyo was on the southern one and the other was the biggest if I remember correctly). Yep, days and days of whale watching (though the California gray whales seemed to constantly come out either just before or after we did so we never saw them but the crew did grrrr) and computer games and music and the gym, the officer's lounge, the crew lounge, saunas etc. Was like a cruise with cargo to me!!! At any rate, the ride's over and I SHOULD be in Texas on the first. Dana, I need to get in touch with you because I have a means to pick up my axes BEFORE Christmas, maybe on the 4th!!! Yes, I'm GLAD to be in America, and though some of us landloving Army pukes got nauseous, I was one of the fortunate ones who did not though the tossing of the boat had a profound affect on me, which is that it rocked the boat like a cradle so I kept falling asleep a lot! OK, I think I've rambled too much, I'm back without phone access as yet and only a minimal of iffy internet service as yet, so I'll talk to you guys as I can!! Keep rocking, playing the blues, giving the gospel new voice with your Deans, and keep being the DOA!!! ROCK ON!!

get a V stock off an ML-X or something like that. Talk about a cool guitar to play Twisted Sister covers on.

Dean Museum?
by Faust on Sun Nov 28, 2004 8:02 pm
The history and evolution of Dean guitars is mostly tribal knowledge in the forum. Not much is publically available to help identify subtle differences in vintage Dean instruments.

Someone should place a "Dean museum" hotkey in one of the dropdown menus on the front page and post pictures and descriptions of vintage Dean guitars from 1976 to present... with pics of magazine ads along side of the actual guitar photos... specs and endorsements. Pictures of Dean Z's old shops would be great too... with notes from the creator etc. It would be nice to see old pics of the creator actually making the legends from dead trees.

Has anybody ever visited the Experience Music Project in Seattle? Paul Allen (Number two guy to Dr. Evil Bill Gates at Microsoft) had this really fabulous museum of rock and roll built, which houses the Jimi Hendrix museum. It is brilliant! It could easily serve as a model for the Dean museum page!

MICE!!!
by DizzyDean on Sun Nov 28, 2004 9:55 pm
ARRRRGGGG!!! I HATE MICE!!

Look what the little buggers did to one of my TC cases. They climbed on top of the case pile and had a good munch! Buggers got three cases, but this one is by far the worst. Not only that, I think the little bastards are to blame for chips in the clear coat on my TC Z. The bottom of the guitar is right against the floor when its on the stand and I think the mice started eating it!!! It has a good size chunk missing out of the end side!!! I couldn't figure out for the life of me how it happened as I would have needed to hit the guitar so hard to cause that damage - I would have noticed for sure.

So, we got 3 traps and put em out last night!!! 3 for 3!!! Fat ones too....all full of leather and clearcoat!! Confused Confused Crying or Very sad

After almost a year and just finishing a total rewire. My 1981 Flame series that I painted the flames on is now in total working order once again. I totally rewired the guitar with all new stuff using my '79 ML-F as the guide to work by. It sounds awesome and totally quiet. Man, what a difference.

Anyone subscribe? thoughts, opinions? My wife wants this for Christmas. She is an avid Howard Stern listener. I can't help think when Howard let's lose on satellite radio, she won't like him anymore. So it's not the only the Howard factor that warrants this purchase. They have a 3 day free pass online. I can't stop channel surfing.

Looking for info on Stage A/E
by ChaserCT on Mon Nov 29, 2004 8:09 pm
I tried to email Dean a few times today, but all three attempts were tossed back to me (used the service1@deanguitars.com, and deaninfo@deanguitars.com)...maybe you guys on here can help me out?

I have a Dean Stage Acoustic Guitar, Model No. CBK. I did a search on the internet and on the forums and I couldn't find any info on the guitar, except for one of the boards saying it was "rare...relatively speaking".

I was wondering if any could give me some info on it...production numbers, year it was made, etc.. Thanks!

Their "David Lee Roth" is better than the real one. Pretty cool for old Halen fans plus they smoke! The only thing that is @#$%&$@ is the wig on the guitar player, ...plus the guitar he's playing... Wink
