Motley Crue Reunite.......Seriously.....
by JA Allen on Wed Dec 01, 2004 10:54 am
BREAK out the hairspray and squeeze into your Spandex — Motley Crue is reuniting for a world tour. The glam-metal gang of Vince Neil, Tommy Lee, Nikki Sixx and Mick Mars will hold a press conference Monday in front of the Whiskey A-Go-Go on the Sunset Strip, the historic rock club where Crue got its start in the early 1980s. VH1 will cover the announcement live and the Strip will be #$%@ down. Meanwhile, Neil, last seen bunking with other B-list celebs on "The Surreal Life," marries buxom blond gal pal Leah Gardini Jan. 9 in Las Vegas.
Bare Knuckle pickups?????
Anyone ever hear of Bare Knuckle pickups? There are a small handmade pickup company in the UK. I got an email from a buddy in Europe who swears by these.
Also, I got a set of Dimebag High Voltage strings in the mail the other day. I put them on next month and give an update.

Bringing back the Oldschool!
by Faust on Wed Dec 01, 2004 2:30 pm
The 80's was the time for Heavy Metal and pointy guitars. The X-games did not exist yet, but there were a lot of guys like myself out there beating themselves up with bikes and skateboards, when we were not spending hours and hours trying to learn speed riffs. I still ride... I can not thrash like I used to, but I can hang with the kids. This is a picture of my Oldschool Redline RL20-II. I picked this thing up with a so-so paintjob on ebay and finished it out with a combination of old parts from my original bike (long gone) and new high-tech wheels and drivetrain. The tires are actually newschool... they just fit the color scheme perfectly.
All the kids in the neighborhood love my "twin top tuber". It is older than all of them!

Mark's (Jag Panzer) endorsement makes hardradio.com
Mark Briody, a founding member, guitarist and main songwriter for Colorado based heavy metal band JAG PANZER, is proud to announce that he will be endorsing Dean Guitars. Joining the ranks of fellow Dean endorsers and guitar legends Dimebag Darrell and Michael Schenker, Mark had this to say, "I am very pleased and proud to be a Dean Guitar endorser. I used Deans on all the early Jag Panzer recordings and it's great to be playing them again." To read Dean Guitars webpage on Mark Briody click here. Century Media Records released Jag Panzer's Casting The Stones in October of this year. For more information on the band visit the Jag Panzer website by clicking here. Century Media Family artists Nergal of Behemoth, and Fireball Ministry also endorse Dean Guitars.

Busted up
by Kragax on Thu Dec 02, 2004 9:08 am
If it wern't for bad luck I'd have.........
Being the cheap bastard that I am, I picked up a clapped out old truck for the winter paid 200.00 for it and its really not bad. In the process of getting it ready for inspection though I crushed my right thumb. Made a mess of it. That same day I got a new stomp that now it will be weeks before I can try. I cant even think about playing a guitar. So I have a truck for 200 get it inspected for 50 and Im good to go except for the 2500.00 hospital bill and a lost of lost rehersal time, and thhe guys are pissed as hell. What is the moral of this story you might ask? I don't know I just had to bitch.
Tone Finger Ease
by mcvinyl on Thu Dec 02, 2004 10:16 am
During my lesson tonight my guitar teacher casually picked up his tin of Finger Ease and sprayed it on the fretboard of my EVO. After I'd picked my jaw off the floor I asked him if he could ask me next time before he did something like that.
Have any of you guys had any experience with this stuff? Is it OK to use? I looked at my guitar after the lesson and it still had a little build up on it which I wiped off.
I've only ever used lemon oil for my fretboard so I was a little concerned at using a chemical aerosol.
Maybe I'm being a little picky here, but hey I'm not familiar with the stuff. Any light that can be shed would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Simon
I ordered a pair for my evos'. Any insight on these things, anyone? I put new medium jumbo frets in these guitars, and the "g" and "b" strings are driving me kerrrazeeee! Intonation is right on, but the two strings sound 'off' in first position chords. I used a stroboscopic tuner to intonate, so it aint that!
My band is playing tonight

And I'm so nervous! This is the first band I've played lead guitar in. What do you guys do before a show to get ready? We're playing in a few hours!
Thanks!!

Splawn Amps...one is on its way !!!!
by Wayne_S on Thu Dec 02, 2004 9:58 pm
Yes Ive made a new amp purchase Im taking a shot on the Splawn "Quick Rod". Its really a hodrodded Marshall and Im positive it will be everything Ive been searching for.
I thought about going with a Marshall reissue then have the Splawn mod put in but what for. If I had a Marshall I would have had him do the mod.
One of my friends was so impressed with the sound clips on his site that hes sending in his 1972 & 1979 Marshalls for the mod.
BTW Scott is a great guy to deal with. Ive spoke with him several times with questions and hes takin the time to answer and give me other thoughts and options to consider, even on other brand makes like Engl for example.
So its gonna be a long 3 weeks to wait but Im really thrilled to have "The Tone" Ive been looking for
When it gets here I'll fire up some different settings and MP3 them here on the Dean site so you guys can get another take on the tone
New Dime models-USA & import
Hello everyone. I registered on this board a long time ago and just recently came back and had to re-register. With Dime coming home I had to get my taint back here. Wow- this board is great! I can't wait to get to know ya'll better.
Anyway, I got my first Dean 16 years ago. A Hollywood Z. All my buds made fun of it, until CFH came out that is. I played that guitar for 3-4 years soild and then I got into Charvels, Jacksons, BC Rich, etc. I was pretty satisfied with those for the next 14 years until I was surfing Ebay and stumbled across a Phantom ML Standard in what appeared to be decent shape. It was 150 bucks and noone was biting. So I got it just to maybe jam on some Pantera and do my best Dimebag. I get the guitar and it is NEW! No pick marks, dings, nothing. And its got a set neck! WOW! The seller had it listed as a bolt on!
Its my number one now(w/ a 500xl update). Amazing that less than 2 bills can get you an axe to replace ones that cost 4-6x that much...
Now, with Dime back I MUST have a Dime Dean! Does anyone know when they will be available? US or import I don't care! I've got some cash rippin' me a new one for one of those. As I'm sure others here do too. Dean, can you please give us a timeline? Maybe?
Nice to meet ya'll

Fret info
by Faust on Fri Dec 03, 2004 12:58 am
A guy who fixes guitars..(I won't go so far as to call him a Luthier!) once told me that "A guitar is only as good as its frets". He also told me a lot of sick jokes that I will probably never repeat!
This link is to the homepage of a Luthier who was recommended to me by a good friend. He has done fret jobs for a lot of top-dollar guitarists (Billy Gibbons to drop a name) and is highly regarded as a "fret job expert" amongst Luthiers. His name is Richard Beck and he works out of the Phoenix Arizona area.

New Band Dean Sighting on Fuse TV
by BTMN on Fri Dec 03, 2004 10:26 pm
Flipping channels this afternoon a familiar headstock caught my eye.
www.ludorock.com
Nice melodic rock. Looks like both guitar players use Dean but the Singer has a Budwieser Dean unlike any I have seen. I think it is a Hardtail. Look on the photopage at the site and look at the 10/31 photos from Santa Monica.
are the bodies on the 79 Z's like smaller than say a USA Z. i know its not as wide but like the body dimensions. cuz it looks smaller than a lot of pics of USAs and s#%t
You have no clue how bad I want this thing.
This is the guitar that totally caught my eye at DOA 1. Its also the guitar that I was holding in the picture with me, Elliott, and Dean Z. It by itself is a badass guitar, but it also has some meaning to it. Man it really sucks not having $.

Earliest metal bands and their influences
who do you consider to be like the earliest metal artists. and who were their influences. im arguing with some retard who says metal came from punk, sabbath wasnt metal, and paganini was the first metal musician.
THD Hotplate opinions please....
Who uses them and what's your honest opinion. I'm afraid of the tone becoming "buzzy" or "fizzy" when amp is cranked and attenuated to bedroom levels.

Seymour Duncan Mystery
by Faust on Mon Dec 06, 2004 12:51 pm
I pulled a pickup out of a junker guitar in my garage and turned it over to see the Seymour Duncan logo embossed in it! Score!
I'm not sure what it is though. It is labeled with a sticker that bears the following three letters: DCP
The total coil resistance is 14.25K and the bobbins are standard black. It is a Humbucker.... thanks Chuck!
It was in the neck position, but the wires were cut so short that there is no way that it was ever connected in that position on that guitar. The guitar is an old Guild star-shaped guitar (like a Charvel) with a bright yellow body and a black painted neck with a pterodactly shaped headstock. The paint on both neck and body looks original.
If anybody knows what this pickup is, please share. I am curious about my found-treasure.
Thanks!

Well I did get something new....
but it isn't a guitar.
IT'S A PUPPY DOG. That's my new dog Fluke. I went to the pound and saw a Shepherd mix I liked but when I went back to get it he had already been adopted. On the way out I saw this pup and saw he was scheduled to be put to sleep today, so I took him. His previous owner left him in their house when they moved. They apparently tried to clip his tail by themselves so his tail is shorter than normal, but he's a great dog.
Except while visiting my parents house he tried to kill my cat.
Literally.
But other than that, he's a great dog.
P.S. ANYONE WANT MY EVO SPECIAL SELECT, IT CAN BE YOURS FOR JUST $300

If anyone's in the market, you can't go wrong with this one on ebay. It's a Squier, but they stopped making them and started putting Fender on them instead. I had this very same model and color and it was a rock solid guitar. Maybe could use some hotter pups, but that's it. Just thought I'd pass this along.

Reason why I saw that #1 of 50 Black Caddy yesterday here in Columbus, Ohio is because I am here on a sad agenda.
I want to dedicate my 800th post to my mom who passed away on Saturday afternoon. She has been sick a good part of the year and I am sad and glad about her death. Sad she is gone but glad her suffering is over. We are having a party/memorial tonight and I have a friend coming to play some music. We are giving her a great send off. A soldier came to a fork in the road and saw a nun standing there. He asked her, "Please Sister, may I hide under your skirts for a few minutes. I'll explain why later."
The nun agreed to his request. Shortly thereafter, the two MPs came running along and asked her if she had seen a soldier running down the road. She replied, "He went that way".
After the MPs disappeared, the soldier crawled out from under her skirt and said." I can't thank you enough Sister, but you see I don't want to go to Iraq. The nun said she understood.
The GI said, "I hope you don't think me rude or impertinent, but you have the most beautiful pair of legs I've ever seen!"
The nun replied," If you had looked a little higher, you would have seen the most beautiful pair of balls you've ever seen! I don't want to go to Iraq either!"

Opinions on VOX Tone LAB Modeler
by BigDog on Wed Dec 08, 2004 10:32 pm
Hey Gang,
Anyone have any experience (good or otherwise) with the VOX Valvetronix Tone Lab Effects Modeler. I was making myXmas list for my wife (for me of course), and this item appealed to me.
I demo'd it today, seems very cool and consistant with no noticable drop offs and easy to operate and even see the knobs, dials without my glasses.
(this is a plus for we whose eyes are older than our spirit)
I have a Digitech RP 100 effect modeler for about 2 years which is ok but I have grown to dislike the quality and the fact that many effects at different volume levels have drop offs.
And at $299. cheaper than buying one of the VOX Amps with the effects.
Appreciate any input.

Dimebag Darrell R.I.P.
by Ziggy on Fri Dec 10, 2004 10:36 am
Man, this has been an emotional period.
Nothing could have prepared me for what happened at the Damageplan concert.
I'm sitting safe and sound a long distance from the events, and I never knew Dimebag. I still feel a kind of personal loss here.
I mean, Dimebag was one of us! He had a special status for us at the forum.
Everything was going the right way. Dime was back with Dean, the new guitar designs were just completed, Damageplan was about to record another album and then this happens.
What strikes me is that almost everyone who met Dimebag Darrell tells about what a nice guy he was. And I'm not just talking about the people who have issued statements after his death. I mean people like our own BraveDave!
Man, this has to be the saddest happening in the metal/music community for a long long time...

Just need to say this..... For Dime.....For Deanland
by DeanMann on Fri Dec 10, 2004 12:31 pm
Though I never met him, nor know much about his music, I have heard a lot & learned a lot from those on this site.
To be honest, Joe was the first to "educate" me on who Dimebag Darrell was. (Joe may be known as Vanilla Gorilla now, but to me, he will always be known affectionately as Dimebag Joe)
Everything I have read, or saw through pictures, has led me to think Dime was a guy who just loved & lived LIFE. Music was his world. He was a person who found himself in the middle of something he was a fan of to begin with. Like a fan of something, or someone, who wound up right in the middle of it. All I can think about is a picture I saw of Dime, Elliot, and Dean Z. in the artist room posing with some MLs. Fist in the air smiling from ear to ear. That pic told a story. Not only were they in business together, but they REALLY became FRIENDS!!! They just looked trully, and NATURALLY HAPPY. Those pics of Dave & Mrs. Dave....... Those looked REAL, HONEST, AND HAPPY!!! Not some fake meet & greet. Looked to me like he honestly was happy to meet the Brave Daves.
This is a huge loss to the whole music industry. But, even though I didn't know him, I feel a loss and hurt because of people I know and care about right here in this forum. For me and others (I'm sure), it's almost like a family member you never really know or knew, but feel an attachment somehow.?.?.? Does that make sense?
My thoughts and prayers are honestly with all involved. Families who lost a loved one, and fans as well. But most of all, with my fellow Dean Family Members.
Take care of yourselves.
Your Friend,
Robert
I don't even know what to say. Yesterday was one of the worst days of my life. Im still a wreck but as we all do, we will pull through this hard time. Yesterday and today I have learned who my true friends are. As soon as the news hit people started calling me to find out how I was. Can't find the words to describe how I feel.
I'll never forget the day my friend brought over this new tape called Cowboys from Hell. I was just starting to learn guitar in early 1990 and had really no direction on where to go with it. Once I heard that tape I was hooked. Spent the last 14 years following the career of to me, the baddest guitar player ever. Pantera and my guitar got me through some of the toughest times in my life. No matter if I was sad or angry I could always throw a Pantera CD in and jam my pains away. My high school years, all that mattered was Darrell, Pantera, and my guitar. I am older now but I will never forget my roots. It was that common love for his music that brought me together with most of my close friends and the people here on this site. If it wasn't for him I would not be here, or met Dean Z, Elliott, Dave, and all the rest of you guys. I love my MLs and its all because of him.
With that said, he inspired me to pick up my guitar and play it. Play it like a guitar has never been played before. To break out of the mold and do what you want and not what everyone else thinks you should do. Darrell is physically gone but he will live on forever because he touched me and a whole generation of musicians and fans alike. Everytime either I or anyone else picks up their Dean or whatever they have and play something that he inspired them to play he will be immortal. Thanks for the memories Darrell, we will never forget you. Joe

Amen brother.
This last week has been hell for me. Two deaths, dumped, but I was getting through. I was listening to CFH to help take my mind off things and when I was asking myself "how could things get any worse?" the man behind the music I have loved for years was taken from me too. I'm not going to drone on as we all have been inspired by this mans work and all have suffered a crushing loss as of December the 8th. I could not sleep the night I heard this and the next day when my hopes of hoax or misinformation had been dispelled I just completely collapsed. We are all at a loss of a great man, but rather than mourn the attocity, we should be remembering the good. Afterall, Dime went down doing what he loved to do to the last second. I will now leave you all with a quote which has helped me endure this tragedy
"When I die, I don't want people crying at my funeral. I want them drinking."
always the with a smile on his face, Dimebag Darrell
1966 - 2004
i would also like to leave with a message from my friend Adam, producer for the band Fall Guy and we were all desperately anticipating the opportunity to have Dime appear on his upcoming project Separated At Birth
What a awesome picture, this was taken shortly before he was killed for no reason. This is in the Krank Warehouse, you see Dime, Joe Dank and Driver and Cunni from Bionic Jive who played bass on the new Fall Guy cd. Dime was so nice he paid for a entire strip club to be rented out to throw the Fall Guy cd release party. A guitar legend, and I know a God in a guitar sense to so many people like Mat *mailman* and one of my best friends Driver. Lots of press was at the Krank Warehouse yesterday, it is amazing to see how many people this man inspired to do something in life, even if it was picking up a guitar and playing till your hands bleed, he gave you drive and something to really live for. He is one person that will be so greatly missed by so many different people. R.I.P.

How Dime got signed to Krank amps (funny story)
by Mailman on Fri Dec 10, 2004 11:57 pm
my buddies at krank sent me this today
Dimebag Darrel vs the ATM Machine
Umm… I guess Dimebag Darrel got in a fight with an ATM machine at a strip club. Yea. At least that’s what Jim from Teki Pyro Records wrote me Weighing in at 145lbs Dime Bag Darrel from Pantera was conducting business in a strip club along with Cunni from Bionic Jive and the owner of Krank amps when Dime Bag Darrell needed money from the ATM machine. After approaching the ATM machine in a kind manner the ATM refused to spit out any money for Darrell because he had reached his quota for the day. Darrell did not take this to kindly, and decided to try to cuss the ATM to death, but when the ATM did not back down and spit out another Insufficient funds reply, Dime Bag Darrell former heavy weight for Pantera dropped his gloves and round one began with Darrell throwing a countless number of swings and low blow kicks to Mr. ATM who in return could not defend it’s self due to the deadly right hand of Darrell pulling the power cord right out from under MR. ATM. The crowd went wild, screaming and cheering on Dime Bag as he approached victory when out came Mr. ATM’s body guards that swarmed in for the rescue, and all in the name of ATM broke loose. The body guards started Harassing Darrell like he did something wrong but Mr. Krank amp and Cunni from Bionic was not going to have any of this, (So how do you get Dime Bag Darrell to switch from Randall Amps that he has been playing out of for 15 years to Krank Amps.) You do what every salesman in American would do. (Punch the bouncer right in the mouth) (((BAM))) and end up in jail for it. Yes, you take one for the team anything to get a sale cause you never know what could happen in return. So what did happen. Dime Bag Darrell posted bail for everyone involved plus signed to Krank Amps. Then he bought Bionic Jive all new Krank Amps to go out on tour with. Congratulations to Darrell and Krank Amps for a well deserved Victory. And a get well soon to M.r ATM that was taken out on a dolly due to severe memory loss.
'DIMEBAG' DARRELL ABBOTT 1966 - 2004 - R.I.P.
by NickM on Fri Dec 10, 2004 11:59 pm
I haven't been able to get on here for the last 1 and a half days, but now everything seems to be working.
I am at a loss for words right now, but I'll try to pull through...
I just wanted to say how sad I am that Dimebag Darrell is gone. He was more than just a guitarist to me. He was such a cool guy and a nice person, and my guitar playing is heavily influenced by him. He will be missed.
I heard about the death on Wednesday at probably 9:30pm my time. The guitarist in my band sent me a link to a site that said something about Dimebag Darrell being dead. I thought it was a hoax, just some sick joke. I logged on here right after, and I found out it was true. I cried for a long time that night, and I didn't sleep much. I cried yesterday too. Dimebag meant a lot to me and other people.
The first time I had ever heard a Pantera song was shortly after I started listening to Metallica. I had heard of all these metal bands, like Pantera and Slayer, so I had to check them out. When I saw Dimebag, I said "Man, that is a mean guitar he's holding!". I had listened to Becoming, 5 Minutes Alone, Walk, and I was blown away. I got to see the Cowboys From Hell video, and that sealed the deal, I knew he was awesome. I've followed him and his career ever since.
Dime's music has gotten me through a lot. No matter how angry, depressed, etc. I was, I could put on a Pantera CD, or play some Pantera on the guitar, and I'd feel better. People at school yesterday didn't see what I was so upset about. They thought he was just another guitarist. Some people even made fun of the fact he was dead. Those people don't understand.
Dimebag has a place in our hearts. We'll never forget Dimebag, and his amazing music.

I took my Autographed Dime Camo to the guitar show just this last sunday to get rid of it. Nobody wanted it at all, so I kept it and played the hell out of it with a new bridge pickup. I think those guitar show guys are kicking themselves now. I just cleaned and put up the two autographed Dimes I own (one V and one Dime 333) I think they are retired from playing. I am going to get a case for them (display type curio caninet.) and just hang on to them forver. So, now I am trying to find a few replacements for these two. Ebays all whored up becasue of this whole thing, so I just picked up and Stealth ST Pro to use as a player. Just random thoughts here. Been a F'd up last two days.

Possible motive
by NickM on Sat Dec 11, 2004 6:18 am
I really can't talk about the death right now, I'm still pretty messed up because of all this, but I just had to tell you guys.
On the 10 o'clock news, I just saw that a possible motive of Dimebag's death is Nathan Gale (the shooter) told friends that Pantera stole some of his lyrics. He was also talking about filing a lawsuit.
I am not too sure about legit this, but I just saw it on the news.
Filing a lawsuit is one thing, killing someone is something else.

Dean to proceed with Dime Guitar, Article states
by Vekin on Sat Dec 11, 2004 8:51 am
I found this today.
Despite Shooting, DEAN GUITARS To Proceed With 'DIMEBAG' Model - Dec. 10, 2004
Carl Cronan of the Tampa Bay Business Journal is reporting that Dean Guitars plans to proceed with production of a special "signature edition" electric guitar named and designed for "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, the heavy-metal musician who was shot to death inside a Columbus, Ohio nightclub late Wednesday night.
The Tampa Bay area-based manufacturer signed a new endorsement agreement with the former PANTERA lead guitarist last month and has pre-sold 150 copies of its special "lightning bolt" model made famous by Abbott in concerts and music videos, said Elliott Rubinson, CEO of Armadillo Enterprises Inc., Dean's parent company.
The signature Dimebag Darrell guitar was scheduled to be introduced at a trade show next month, and Rubinson said he is hopeful that Abbott's estate will allow that production to continue under the contract he signed prior to his death. Armadillo has owned the Dean brand since 1995.
"It's a huge, sore disappointment to us," Rubinson said Friday about Abbott, one of Dean's leading musical promoters. "We're not going to drop the endorsement deal. His family needs the support now."
Rubinson described Abbott, 38, as an energetic musician and "walking cartoon character" who liked to joke around and give nicknames to acquaintances. He didn't disclose the value of the endorsement contract Dean signed with Abbott, except to say it is "one of the most lucrative given to a guitar player."
Abbott, who played Dean guitars dating back to its previous production in the early 1980s, reached the height of his heavy metal popularity during the mid-1990s with PANTERA, whose albums received nominations for Grammy awards in 1995 and 2001. His new band DAMAGEPLAN, which he appeared with during Wednesday's concert, released its first album in February.
Dean's web site has posted a memorial tribute to Abbott and had to be #$%@ down temporarily after receiving "thousands" of visits following the musician's death. "I knew he was popular but I had no idea," Rubinson said.
Armadillo is in the process of relocating its Dean Guitars factory from Roosevelt Boulevard in Clearwater to a 110,000-square-foot industrial building along West Waters Avenue in Tampa.
The company bought the building from Tropical Sportswear International Corp. for $4.9 million in November.

Question on the d-tuna (sp??) floyd rose trems
I was just wondering about these, do they work with a little thing on the low E string so you can drop it down a step on the fly? And if so - anyone use one and how does it work. Lastly, is it part of a special floyd rose trem, or somthing that can be added to a normal floyd? thx.

From Blabbermouth:
According to TotalRock.com, former IRON MAIDEN frontman Paul Di'Anno was attacked during his show in Tel Aviv, Israel on Friday (Dec. 10). A crazed fan apparently got onstage, and lashed out at the shaken singer. Fortunately, Di'Anno suffering only minor injuries, and was able to finish the gig.
Di'Anno performed in Israel as part of the Heavy Metal Monsters melodic metal festival, which is scheduled to conclude tonight (Dec. 11) in Haifa, Israel.
Di'Anno is reportedly playing a very long set consisting of 70 percent IRON MAIDEN songs and 30 percent his own material.

DAVE MUSTAINE Apologizes To METALLICA, Promises To Be More Like DIMEBAG - Dec. 11, 2004
MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has posted the following message on the group's official message board:
"Droogies!
"Tonight I had the honor and priveledge to host a special [MTV2 'Headbanger's Ball'] tribute to the life of Darrel 'Dimebag' Abbott.
"I went out to NYC Thursday at 9:30 PM on a redeye to do this, and during the period since then, I have had a good amount of time to reflect on my own life.
"I realized how fortunate I am, and have been to have met some of you, and in some cases become friends with many of you.
"What is bothering me is the people who I have not been able to meet, or worse, have met and ended up not being friends with. There are many.
"I would like to, in honor of Darrel's life, learn from him and how many friends he apparently had made.
"Over my career I have a lot of cleaning up to do on my side of the street as well as letting things go, for once and for all; I need to apologize to many people and also to forgive and quit holding grudges.
"Having said that, if there is something I did to you or someone you know, please give me the opportunity to make this right.
"To SLAYER and METALLICA: I am sorry for whatever I may have done in the past and wish to make it right, to put it behind us. Please let me know how and when we can talk this out.
"To previous bandmembers and managers: I say the same to you.
"To all the MEGADETH/METALLICA fans: from this day forward, there will never be another unkind word from my mouth perpetuating this silly 22-year-old feud.
"And to heavy metal fans around the world: I am going to emulate Dimebag by being more like him; more friendly, and more interested in your lives too, I promise.
"I am grateful to have been asked to come in this hour of darkness to represent us all as we come together and heal as a worldwide music community, and I would be a fraud if I didn't say I need to do more to better represent.
"Thank you in advance for your forgiveness and for your support."
about washburns
by Mailman on Sun Dec 12, 2004 8:54 pm
did they always have uneven horns on the headstock?
cuz my friend was showin me pics of his two new cheap korean washburns (camo dime and stealth v) and i noticed the right horn was shorter than the left......and i asked him about it and he said its made like that
What's the one thing everyone tells a new player to be careful adjusting and what did I just break? Yep, the trussrod. It didn't take much and I didn't break the rod itself, but rather a poor quality weld. Luckily it was a cheap bolt on (non-Dean, of course), so I could just replace the neck. WD sells the same trussrod for $12 and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to remove the fretboard? I'm thinking of putting the neck in my oven at 150 degrees and see if that loosens the glue. Any other (read better) ideas?

TotalRock.com have retracted their initial report that former IRON MAIDEN singer Paul Di'Anno had been attacked while performing at an Israeli festival Friday. Wayne and HotRat take note.
I remember a post about these guys about a month or so and just wanted to mention that I had the occastion to go there and meet the crew today. Besides being extrememly cool and friendly guys (and players) they're also a Dean dealer. They have a couple of beautiful Hardtails there (one a CE with a blue quilt top and the other an exotic top with spalted maple). There's also a very, very nice TC V with block markders among guitars from other manufacturers. They have a huge stock of parts, both electrical and mechanical and are very big Dean fans. Apparently they have two Dime Guitars on order...one will be played and the other will hang in the store as a tribute. I'll probably be doing whatever business I need to regarding parts and whatever with these guys. Highly recommended! .

Kerry King meet and greet Dec. 13th 2004
by JohnL on Tue Dec 14, 2004 9:23 am
I went to a meet and greet/guitar clinic thing with Kerry King tonight at a little guitar shop in Orange, CA. It was hosted by B.C. Rich and was pretty cool. Mr. King had one of his signature series Warlocks there and said the guitar was going to be donated to Dimebags family. +50,000 for Kerry King.
He picked people out of the crowd to come up and play some Slayer riffs or whatever. Just about everyone belted out some pretty decent Slayer riffs and then when they were done, Kerry would grab the guitar and play the riff. About 20 people went up and did their thing.
He picked me after about 15 people had already gone up and I made my way to the stage. Once up there, he shook my hand and handed me the guitar (which was slung so low I could barely reach the strings). So I look over and Kerry F'n King is standing right next to me looking at me and I finally realize "I am on a stage next to a guitar god... Why did I volunteer to come up here?" I felt like Ralphie in A Christmas Story when he sat on Santa’s Lap.
Of course my mind goes totally blank. So I played what I've been listening to all day - 'Mouth for War', nodded in respect to Mr. King, handed him the guitar and quickly exited the stage. I got thumbs up and nods from people in the audience so I didn't feel like a complete boob. You can't ever go wrong with a Pantera riff.
After that everyone lined up to have Mr. King sign whatever they brought along with them. A lot of people brought their guitars - Gibsons, B.C. Rich's, ESP's. I brought my black '79 series V with the Floyd and caught Kerry taking a long look at it as I approached the front of the line. That guitar is evil looking. Anyway, he signed the back of the headstock and I bailed.
Kerry King was cool to everyone who showed up and did a great job as a host. I'd always been told that he was kind of an ahole - totally not true. If you have a chance to go to one of these meet 'n greets, go.

by BULL on Tue Dec 14, 2004 5:28 pm

Its from Doug's personal demo collection he put in King's X website. The song is localated in KING'S X official website forum. Awesome cover Dime rips it up DUg plays the bass and sings his heart out. You guys have to hear it.
For you modeling freaks....
http://www.americanmusical.com/item--i-BEH-LX1200H.html
At this price it's almost worth it just to see how good the sounds are. There is a cheaper analog version as well.
Can someone explain Line6 to me?
I consider myself a fairly technical person. I've been to the Line6 website and I've read also some articles on thier gear.
Either Line6 is glossing over some huge details or thier trying to keep thier marketing simple.
I gather that thier guitar can sound like a sitar. But do you need thier amp also? They also imply that the amp can make your guitar sound like a sitar. Do you need them both? Or can you use thier guitar and a regular amp? Or a regular guitar and thier amp? What if you use both? Do you get a super sitar sound?
And what do they mean by 'modeling'? I know what the term means, but they don't say how they achieve it. Are they pitch tracking the guitar and playing back a physically modeled sitar (along the lines of Yamaha's physical model synth)? Or are they picth tracking and playing back a sitar sample? Or are they doing a A/D conversion and altering the waveform to sound like a sitar? Or is thier analog style circuitry (like old fx pedals) which make the sound similar to a sitar.
Very frustrated.

Neck questions

A question for those luthier types out there. Any expereince in installing a new new into a bolt on caddy or evo body? Suggestions on if a Fender Strat type next would bolt up and were is a good place to get a neck? I would like to try my hand at building a guitar and have found a possible Caddy body. Just wondering if anyone has tryed this yet. Thanks in advance for any info!
Vendetta 4.0. A ghost gutar...?
by ztevie on Wed Dec 15, 2004 6:26 am
Hey people!
I've been looking at the Vendetta 4.0. It looks real interesting but before I go ahead and order one I'd really like to get some reviews from someone else.
Now here comes the scary part: I feel like I'm the first one ever to buy it! Can't find any reviews AT ALL, there's only that standard text wherever I go... And this axe has been around for a while.
Is there noone out there who actually tried it in person, or, halleluja, bought one?
I'm especially interested in the neck: Thin, fat, fastplayed, able to set string action real low without buzz? Also, how are the Dean humbuckers? I guess I'll replace them with a pair of SD's but anyway...
Also some angle-pics would be nice, all you see is the standard photo (and carlinoguitars of course, thanks!).
Or maybe I am the first one to buy this beauty, but then I think I deserve to get serial# 1??
MLFs?

I need to get a new guitar, and i need to know if the ML-X is a decent metal guitar...does it have an oversized neck? nice feel? quick fretboard? good tone? im left-handed so i cant test guitars before i buy them, especially ones w/ unique shapes and sizes
SELECT CADDY NECK SPECS
by MLFLAME on Wed Dec 15, 2004 6:21 pm
A friend of mine has played my 1980 ML and thinks it's the nicest neck he's ever played. It's the "C" shaped neck, not the "V".He is now interested in a select Caddy. The only info I can find is it's built to the same specs as when it was introduced in 1980.Does anyone have any specs on the neck....and if it's "C" shaped.Thanks.

Paul Rodgers with Queen?
by jim6 on Wed Dec 15, 2004 8:31 pm
LONDON (AP) - The '70s rock band Queen is planning a tour next year with guitarist-vocalist Paul Rodgers replacing frontman Freddie Mercury, who died of AIDS in 1991.
Details about what would be the first Queen tour since Mercury's death were being worked out, but it could include shows across Europe beginning this spring, the band's spokesman said Wednesday.
Rodgers, from '70s blues band Free, impressed the remaining members of Queen when he joined them for several performances this year.
Rodgers and Queen guitarist Brian May performed Free's hit "All Right Now" at a concert in London to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Fender Stratocaster guitar earlier this year. May and Queen drummer Roger Taylor then asked Rodgers to stand in for Mercury when the band was featured on a British TV channel's music hall of fame program.
eh? this would be a great marketing scheme, eh?

i never really cared much for fuzz pedals...but this sounds different...
only been on it maybe 15 minutes....awesome thru the Rivera...i turn the Fuzz down around 1:00...Bias at 3:00...Contour at 12:00....only used my Tradition so far...bridge pup split...thick and heavy....
reminds me of P90s thru a cranked Marshall Plexi pushing 2 4x12s...
I have a Dean Guitar that I bought from a gentleman that did not know much about it. He said it was probably 3-4 years old. It still had the tag on it and said the model was an RZF. This is a six string. I have been trying to find out some info, but have had no luck. The guitar is shaped like a Hardtail. Any info is appreciated.

Guest posting sucks.
by Faust on Thu Dec 16, 2004 10:01 am
OK... I have to beat this drum again. I am sick of trying to follow a thread where a "Guest" says to read his previous post and there are several posts by "Guest" which contradict each other. It makes it next to impossible to figure out where someone is coming from in a long thread.
Is this feature something that is only available in the Dimebag Tribute area? I can understand leaving the door open for people to post their stories and experiences and tributes and such... but the threads are getting totally scattered.
It is also annoying to have people say "that Guest was me" in a follow up...
I know that I have to log on to post... How and why are we getting "Guest" posting again?

by Mike9 on Thu Dec 16, 2004 1:35 pm
I'm putting together a new amp setup for home. It consists of the following components and I'm curious as to what the suggested chain should be.
BBE 462 Sonic Maximizer
Halfer T3 - 3 channel tube preamp
Vintage Bogen Tube PA amp 10 watts (I also have a 33 watt model)
I'm figuring this will make a very nice setup in all modes clean, crunch & gain
Thanks in advance - any help will be appreciated

And no it's not a Fender, it's a Dean! My relic Avalanche Zone S to be exact. I don't remembe when I bought this, but it's been maybe 4 months or so and I still have it. That's getting close to a record for me. I liked it straight away, but after the mild beating I gave it I really like it. Feels like an old comfy shoe, without the smell. I may have the frets levelled some time, but there's no hurry. There's no buzzing or anything like that. I also may put a mini hummer in the bridge in the future as well. That'a a simple mod that I've done to almost all my single coil guitars. I've used a Lil 59, a Hotrails, and a Lil Screamin Demon. All really nice. Not sure what I'll do this time.
Package arrived yesterday
Picked up the mail yesterday. My wife got a package from Bill Lawrence.....

Were the "soggy-crotched" 79 ML's taken out of circulation? I don't have time to go to the store anymore, so I'm just going to order one. I hope I get it before christmas.
It's probably been posted before but this would have been a great Dime guitar.

Motley Crue Singer Accused Of Assault
by jim6 on Thu Dec 16, 2004 8:06 pm
Again??
DALLAS (AP) - Motley Crue singer Vince Neil is accused of knocking out an employee of a Dallas nightclub after a disagreement over sound levels during a concert.
An arrest warrant for misdemeanor assault was issued Wednesday for Neil in the fight at Gilley's Dallas during an Oct. 30 show.
Gilley's soundman Michael Talbert was knocked unconscious by a punch allegedly thrown by Neil that pushed him to the floor. A CAT scan showed a mild concussion, Talbert told The Dallas Morning News for a story in Thursday's editions.
According to a police report attached to the warrant, the singer motioned for more guitar volume but bolted across the stage as Talbert adjusted it. The affidavit said Neil jumped onto the soundboard, kicked at Talbert, then punched him in the face.

tough pic to take....
OK... Let's see who has the most unique pic of a Dean.....
Ok folks, I have an idea that I haven't seen done in this forum before.
We have seen LOTS & LOTS of AWESOME DEAN pics on this board. Some action shots, some just plain.. "here's my dean in front of my truck" pics. ALL OF WHICH I LOVE TO LOOK AT & DROOL ALL OVER AS I'M SURE YOU DO TOO!!!
BUT............
Who has the MOST UNIQUE???
It can be a weird location.........it can be a unique setting...... or whatever you want. MAYBE AN ACTION SHOT.........
BUT PLEASE...... NO PHOTO SHOP enhanced pics. Let's see some REAL PICS IN REAL LOCATIONS OR POSES.
I got this idea from another thread. This pic is a VERY unique one indeed.

HE HAD A BIGGER EGO THAN VINCE NEIL DID WHEN I MET HIM. MICHEAL WAS SO FULL OF HIMSELF AND REALLY DIDNT WANT TO BE BOTHERED WITH THE HOLE MEET THE FANS THING. THERE WERE MAYBE 20-30 PEOPLE IN HERE PRESS AND A FEW PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF WHO SCORED PASSES FROM SOMEONE THEY KNEW. ROBERT AND TIM NEVER SHOWED UP AT ALL. MICHEAL WOULDNT EVEN SIGN AN AUTOGRAPH AND BLEW ME OFF WHEN I TRIED TO TALK TO HIM. ALL HE WANTED TO DO WAS GET HIS PICTURE TAKEN WITH THIS GUY IN A WHEEL CHAIR TO LOOK HOLIER THAN THOW IN THE NEWSPAPER. HE WAS ALL , TAKE A PICTURE OF THIS AND BLAH BLAH BLAH. DIMEBAG CHARITY PHOTO SALE

Many of you here are aware that I did alot of photography work with Dime this year, and was on my way to doing alot of work with Dean and Dime together, so.......
As an associate and a good friend of Dimebag's I would like to do my part in helping to raise funds for the Dimebag Darrell Memorial Fund that has been set up .
Considering what I do for a living this is the best thing I thought I could do to help raise funds for the charity. All proceeds will go directly to the charity. I have received hundreds upon hundreds of emails from people asking if they can purchase photos from me. I do not normally sell my photographs to the general public. However, due to the tragedy that has struck so close to home I am making available the image below for purchase.
It will be an 11x14 print limited to 200 copies only. They will be hand signed and numbered by me. When they are gone, this image will no longer be available in any form. If you have cruised the internet, you may have seen this image on numerous related websites, used as a tribute.
Cost of the image is $110, this includes priority shipping. They will be ready for delivery on Tuesday December 21, 2004. My logo you see below WILL NOT be on the print you receive.
Payment via WWW.PAYPAL.COM can be made to Chadlee@rockconcertfotos.com
Questions can be directed to me personally at that email address as well.
I want to thank all of you for the emails and phone calls over the past few days.
Dimebag will never be forgotten, nor will the impact that he has left on the entire music industry.

Who's music hit your CD player most in 2004?
by BLOYD on Sun Dec 19, 2004 5:51 am
I was originally gonna go with the "What's your vote for best CD of 2004" kinda thing but changed my mind.
Started thinking of it this way...
If you're like me I usually find one or two different artists that I like and listen to their catalog of music for a while...sometimes weeks or even months...so for me in 2004 I'd have to say that "Black Label Society" and "Devin Townsend" got most of the spins on my CD player.
This one caught me off guard. we're going to indiana on tuesday, so we had Fauxmas today. i got downstarirs and opened up an acoustic guitar. Not a Dean, but still an acoustic.
It's an Epi AJ-200S. its not fancy, but it has a solid spruce top and a nifty monogram pickguard. what makes it better is that i had no idea i was getting anything like this. oh, did i mention it plays pretty damn well?
Line6 PODxt question
by tnvol on Mon Dec 20, 2004 12:07 am
Can you just plug into this unit and just use it as a headphone amp? I have looked at all the posts related to it as well as read reviews online and cant find out whether or not it can.
How do you express yourself musically?
by Ziggy on Mon Dec 20, 2004 8:48 am
Many people express themselves musically in many different ways.
Since this is a guitar and bass related forum, I'm skipping those instruments as options in this poll.
PS: It's NOT required that you are GOOD at what you do....
Well I'm safely arrived at my parents' house and no cell service here, and I'm snowed in. Pics to follow soon of the four axes I have here PLUS my sister and her #10/25 DOA Caddy bass. I have here the white V 79 (which was originally pictured with a black headstock but the headstock matches...go figure)...a pair of phantom ML standards (one Jolly Roger graphic and one regular, and the parts I got for the JR didn't fit...apparently the Noir has different backplates than the phantoms) AND the handmade custom select V (Czech korina). Pics to follow soon. I was accurate in my assumption that if the Z played so well the V would be the only way to smoke it...this guitar is better (but not much) than the Z as far as I'm concerned. Now there are two permanent mainstays in my collection. HOPEFULLY I can get in touch with the guy who bought the ML soon...he doesn't answer his emails though...I want the whole set!! These are the sweetest guitars I've EVER played, and I've played tons of guitars, Ibanez, ESP, Gibson, Fender, Dean, Hondo, Epiphone, Squire, Lotus, BC Rich, Kay, it's a long list that goes back 15 years.
I realize I'm in and out and in and out of here a lot lately with all the moving around but once I get back to TX I have to move off post and then I can get some internet access up! My car is back in my possession, which is a good thing, I have four of my guitars (five en route from Korea still along with my Peavey XXL/Crate 1/2 stack). Speaking of which, I may be trading the XXL head for a Crate Blue Voodoo tube head soon. Even steven, and nothing wrong with the Crate at all! The guy who has it hates tube heads and wants an SS head, and IMHO if you want a SS head the XXL is the way to go! Hopefully the ones Dave has will be mailed here as well soon (Spalted Maple V and DOA ML #44/50). 95152 is the V's serial # and YES it looks identical to the Z save it's a V and the flaw with the Z is not at all a flaw on the V. Apparently he didn't like the chrome jackplate and replaced it with a creme one...so THAT is definitely going to change...ewwwww...give me chrome back!!! Though if I could get gold hardware to fit this V I'd love to change it over...I think gold/natural looks AWESOME. Yes it's a series III headstock! But it's a player for sure. 2/3 of the original proto Czech set (V,Z, ML) isn't bad...but I'm REALLY jonesing for that ML...these are PLAYERS and IN NO WAY WALL ORNAMENTS!! Probably my least favorite lookers save the ebony necks, MOP logos and MOP hourglass inlays (not to be confused with mother of toilet seat). These axes smoke! I'm working with the Phantom ML to lower the action a bit and it too will be a better player...the action is a tad bit higher than I like it...but still it's an excellent playing axe.
Now on to the Jolly Roger...the project guitar...
The paint is sanded off the back of the neck...so I may repaint it there, just doesn't look as good IMHO though it does enhance it's playability and make it unique. Other than that the paintjob is outstanding...I see no flaws in the man's work! The replacement parts I bought for it do not fit it so I'm going to stop by Nancy's shop (the local Dean dealer and the lady that I got my VX, VXT, Caddy X and ML Standard from) and see if she has anything to fit it in stock and if so I'll go ahead and get it fixed right up. I love these axes and they are all getting worked over, truss adjusts etc. Once I get that done I'll go see Mark and have him doublecheck my work! (Mark is a genius!!)
OK, last thing, I now have a tattoo on my right forearm, first one I've ever had...pics to come soon as well. Merry Christmas, and now that my 30th has passed I reflect on my 20's and can say that they were the peak of my life...I only hope the 30's get better...because my teens sucked!!

Questions about the Dean Pace bass...
Hi Folks!
This guy has a 6" fretboard radius, but from looking at pics that doesn't look like enough curvature to play this guy with a bow (something I'm really interested in learning). Of course, pics don't always convey the same perspective as seeing one in person. Does anyone know if bowing is possible on the Pace?
Does anyone own a Pace? If so, how would you characterize it's sound? I've got a Dean Edge Fretless 5-string (with EMG-HZ pickups) and an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray5...really REALLY like both of them. If you're familiar with either of those, can you characterize how the Pace sounds in comparison?
The Pace is described as having a very unique sound...does anyone have an MP3 sample by any chance? Or know of a song that was recorded with a Pace?
Thanks and regards!

Tuning half size guitars
by pgoelz on Tue Dec 21, 2004 2:30 am
I just purchased a half size acoustic for a young person. I was going to give her my Korg guitar tuner to help her, or her parents, keep the instrument in tune. Does anyone know how to tune one? Is it the same as a normal guitar? Is it raised in pitch? If so, how much?
Thanks in advance for the help.
Phil
Yup, unless I'm an idiot and uploaded my stepmother's other pics then these are VERY SLOWLY uploading to be my pics of my axes, me and my sis, and her bass. Enjoy!
I can't preview these so I have no idea which pics are which, but the lighting was bad and my dad did the best he could in my sis's room (formerly my room about 10 or 12 years ago).
The bass is DOA '03 Caddy #10/25
And finally the last picture...hope you guys enjoyed...and I'll doublecheck them after posting this to ensure I didn't post my stepmom's silly pics...

Rack Power amps

I am looking for a reasonably priced Rack Power Amp for my cousin. He came over to my place and tried out my Hafler G-150, but those are no longer being made and I am not selling mine!
Does anybody know of a good Rackmount Power Amp that is under $250? It does not need to have a bazillion watts... just needs to sound good for home playing and jamming.
Your help is much appreciated!
Christmas funny

According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December. Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring.
Therefore, according to EVERY historical rendition depicting Santa's
reindeer, EVERY single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl.
We should've known... ONLY women would be able to drag a fat-ass man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost.
I hope you all have a great hoiday...here's a little something to bring a smile to your face. Be safe and healthy for this time and in the years to come.

A Christmas Post and a New Year's Toast!
by kevphol on Tue Dec 21, 2004 9:38 pm
A Blessed and joyful Christmas to all,
may your happiness be large and your troubles be small.
May you be Blessed with the joy that only Christmas can bring,
And may it last ‘till you hear next season’s Christmas bells ring.
And with the New Year’s dawning may you proudly say,
That you’re not as hungover as last New Year’s day!
In the New Year, here’s to hoping you find,
Your fingers to be more nimble and your ear more refined.
May music from you pour with passion and grace,
And the joy of just playing never be displaced.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

These are from a band of mine recorded years ago as a studio project for an engineering student friend of ours. They were to be live takes for the assignment so the quality is not that great.
The first version was to be a level check only, but we kept the take because we played a little joke on our friend by thrashing it out a bit. the second is the legitimate take. Beware a bit of F-word profanity in the thrash version. Enjoy!

Eddie van Halen / Peavey
by Ziggy on Wed Dec 22, 2004 11:04 am
Just read this at Blabbermouth:
Peavey, the world-famous musical instrument manufacturer, has announced that it has parted with Edward Van Halen after a 13-year partnership. Peavey collaborated with the guitarist on his signature-model Peavey Wolfgang Series electric guitars and Peavey 5150 Series amplifiers.
According to the company, Van Halen retains the rights to the names 5150 and Wolfgang, as well as certain design elements of the Wolfgang guitar, but the 5150's circuitry and tone will remain in the Peavey family as the 6505 amplifier. Peavey will launch the new 6505 — named in celebration of Peavey's first forty years, 1965 to 2005 — at the Winter NAMM (International Music Products Association) Expo, Jan. 20-24, 2005, in Anaheim, Calif.
Peavey will also debut its Carina (Italian for 'beautiful') guitars to replace the Wolfgang. Carina Series guitars highlight many of the Peavey innovations used in the Wolfgang and other Peavey guitars, including computer-shaped necks that ensure all Carina guitars exhibit a consistent, comfortable neck radius and superior playability.
The hugely successful 5150 Series guitar amplifiers and Wolfgang electric guitars, which launched in 1991 and 1995, respectively, have become staples of modern rock music. Endorsers ranging from Ted Nugent, 3 DOORS DOWN and DEFAULT to underground metal heroes ATREYU, DARKEST HOUR and GOD FORBID, and even power-punkers such as VISQUEEN, have lauded the contributions these Peavey products have made to rock 'n' roll.
"I'm very proud of the work we accomplished with Edward," says Peavey founder and CEO Hartley Peavey. "The 5150 Series has earned its place as a rock guitar standard, and the Wolfgang is a staple in the pantheon of rock instrumentation. They're both well-respected pieces, and I'm glad we could bring those to life.
"As we enter our fortieth year of building innovative instruments, amplifiers and sound equipment, we're more focused on the future than ever," he remarks. "We've pioneered a lot of 'firsts' in this industry, including making guitars using computer-controlled machines, and even with more than 130 patents behind us, there's plenty of fertile ground ahead of us. It's an exciting time for Peavey."
Peavey is one of the largest manufacturers of musical instruments and professional sound equipment in the world. Peavey holds more than 130 patents and produces more than 2,000 products, which are distributed throughout the United States and to 136 other countries. To find out more about Peavey, visit www.peavey.com.

I'm going to Anchorage, AK to work for a year starting January 4th. Has anyone been up there?
I don't know if many of you are familiar with these, but they go back to the '50s and are now extremely rare and valuable. Given that the ones at this link are relatively new I can't imagine what some of the "old ones" are valued at today. Each and every guitar Tony Zemaitis made was a one-off...all hand made. Check out the Quadraphonic Bass and Flying V...

I got pretty bored last night,so I decided to record a little something for you all who haven't heard the Podxt,or a Dean Sarasota. Well, this is it.
This first clip is a little strange thing i put together...i just liked the technoish feel of it lol.
http://www.digitalsoundplanet.com/Members/000105646_000024110.mp3
This second clip is a short, raw riff i threw together. Just shows that the pod can get some pretty high gains.

And this third one is a dirty, bluesish tune i did, quickly mind you.

New! Metal clip.
Hope you enjoy [/url]
OK, the Ezra Stone webpage is now gone. Still feels odd.
I have reduced the price of the CD on Amazon to $5.00 and will be available until 1/23/2005. After that, they will be gone. I only have about 100 left.
Archaic Reign website is coming soon. I am going to put the full version of Ripped Steel Skin up as an MP3 too.
Thanks to everyone that has supported the old band, and look for new stuff this Spring!

Alright, I'm new to all of this Forum stuff, but I did a little research out here before deciding to buy a Dean from Ed Roman Guitars. This is a work that is still in progress and I'll keep you updated.
All in all, I want one of those Dean '79 Z Ltd Edition Blueburst guitars. They just look so freakin' cool! And from what I gather, they have the binding around the headstock and the true MOP inlays. For $699 (with a "USA" case) what have I got to lose.
Let me start off with this; don't email ER Guitars. You won't get a quick response. Plus, as it states it at their website under General Info/Contact Us: I SUGGEST A PHONE CALL. So, I called them.
While the phone is ringing I'm expecting the worst from what I've read and heard about ER. After 10 or so rings (I almost gave up) someone answers, "Ed Roman guitars this is Scott." I was like, "Uh, hey Scott, on your website it says you have these Dean '79 Ltd Edition Blueburst guitars and I was wondering if you had any Z's left." He was like, "Yeah, lemme check how many we have left." He's away for a couple minutes, so he's actually checking. He comes back on and says they have like 3 of the Z's, 2 of the V's and some number on the ML's. I stopped listening after he said they had Z's in stock (sorry for those ML's fanz). So, I asked if they were still $699 with the case and all. He was like, "Yeah."
Since I'm human and broke ALL of the time, I couldn't buy it right away. So, I got scared when I asked him this, "So, you think you could HOLD one for me for a day?" He was like, "Uh, we don't normally do that, but I guess I could put your name on it for a day." Then I had this feeling that 3 other people would call on Z's as soon as I hung up. So, I was like, "How 'bout I put down $100 right now for your to hold the guitar and I'll call back in a couple dayz when I get paid to pay off the balance?" That he was cool with. He took all my info and I was pleased to have a Ltd Blueburst Z on hold.
Couple days later: "Today, I get paid! Woo-Hoo! I can purchase my Dean!" I call ERG's and ask for Scott. He remembered me and gave me the balance and went over my full order once more with me. I asked Scott, "How LIMITED are this editions?" He didn't know for sure, but he knew that ER bought the whole load. I thanked him for everything and told him to have an In-N-Out Burger for me, since they're across the street from them and I don't have any in my neck of the woods. He laugh and said, "Nuthin' better than a 4 day old In-Out burger!" (It's the Fries people, they put CRACK in the Fries!!)
Now, I wait the my new arrival. I'll keep you posted and I'll take plenty of pics. Also, if you're considering one of the Ltd BB's, jump on it, because there's not many left.
PEACE!!!
More to come...

My 3 Custom Dean Time Capsules are IN!
by Armitage on Fri Dec 24, 2004 12:53 am
Well they're finally in. I put in my Order for three Custom USA Dean Time Capsules way back. I had faith in Dean USA guitars to produce these guitars for me to my satisfaction so I ordered the three TCs at once. A V, Z and ML in specially ordered dark BrazilliaBurst like the good old days. All signed and with Block Inlays of course.
Brian at www.wildwestguitars.com has checked them out personally and he's really impressed with them. I told him to ship them in a week, as I don't want them piled up at Customs with the last of the X-Mas rush. He said he'd shoot some pix for me if he gets a chance before they ship.
A great guy to do business with.

Boss PH-3 Phase Shifter
by NickM on Fri Dec 24, 2004 8:05 am
Does anyone use one? How does it sound for recording? My friend has the Boss ME-50 and I tried recording using the phaser, and it either made the recording clip, or the phaser sound wouldn't stand out in the recording. I might buy the PH-3 on boxing day, but it will be un-returnable.

I know that I'm new to the forums, and I've not had much of a chance to explore. I was just wondering what people thought of having a "Lessons" sub-forum. It could have anything from a lesson (for people like me who just learned other people's solos and never learned how to write my own in key) to tips/tricks, to technical info/help. It was just a thought that I had last night while I was at the MXtabs lessons forum. I get tired of people arguing there, though, and people here seem to be more educated. Well, I'm sorry if this was tried before and it failed, or if there is already a place for lessons.

Strings Question
by Grooves on Fri Dec 24, 2004 5:03 pm
Happy Holidays all!!!
Some friends got me a gift cert to a guitar store, I'm seeing it as an opportunity to try out some new strings on the 'ol axes. I usually use GHS boomer .10's or Dean Markley Blue Steels same guage.
Anybody have any ideas of what to try, I plan on stringing up two guitars, on my DOA ML I'm planning to try the Zakk Wyldes, anybody use these? Is there a noticeable difference between them and the regular Boomer's?
Thanks in advance!
Hope all here have a wonderful holiday!
Hey guys, I guess this could be the start of one of the technical threads. What's your rig? Mine is a Korean Dean Icon, through CBI cables into a '97 Digitech RP-6, and into a Randall RG75, Which is then run into a Randall 4x12 at 4 Ohms for 100 watts total. That is my main setup. I'll try to post my other setups a little later.
P.S. If you have more than one, Which I'm sure a lot of people do, post them all!!

Clean guitar needs fixing.....but I plan on re-recording it with my acoustic anyway. Unfortunately I left the acoustic at the rehearsal studio......so the clean part stays for now.

Merry Christmas Everyone!!
No time to read the posts today, just enough time to stop by and wish my extended Dean family a Merry Christmas.
Just a little Christmas Story:
Last night after finishing a traditional Christmas Eve Celebration with my Wifes family, the phone rang. It was Joe (RedFlameJetCaddy) from Japan, calling to wish us a Merry Christmas. We chatted for a while and after I hung up, my in-laws asked how I came to know someone from Japan. "I met him on the internet", I proclaimed!!! Then I explained how I now have good friends all across the USA and the World! An extended network of people that I feel very fortunate to know and call my friends. As always, they found it hard to understand, but even my Wife Patty proclaimed - "It's a really neat thing. They really are a close bunch of friends."
So to all of you, especially the ones who know they are my close buds, MERRY CHRISTMAS from both of us here in Canada!!!
Peter and Patty
This is the absolute truth. Warning, naughty language...

Thinking of trading in Taylor 410CE
by frocco on Sun Dec 26, 2004 7:02 pm
Hello,
I am thinking of trading in my Taylor 410CE for a Gibson ES335 or Fender Strat 50th with S1 switching.
I would want to replace my Taylor with a less costly Dean Acoustic/Electric.
What would be close in sound quality to my Taylor?
Think this is a wise choice I am making?
I just feel the Taylor is too expensive and a Gibson or Fender would be more tone settings.
Thanks for the help.
Frank
PICTURES!!!!! Of my Icon. They're kind of large.
Here are some pictures of my Dean, there are six of them. I hope you guys enjoy.
And last but certainly not least...you just can't have a Dean without a REALLY hot girl. That's my girlfriend, and my Dean.
Well, I have quite a few more pictures, of someone wants to see anything else, let me know. Thanks!
P.S. Sorry about the poor quality.
I should get my DOA number tomorrow, I'm not sure why this excites me, but it does...haha. Something that makes me kind of sad is that i signed up for the Street Team a couple of days back, and have not gotten a reply. I've almost given up hope, which sucks, because I've gotten people to buy Deans before, and I was talking to a guy at a local shop about becoming a dealer.
I'm a HUGE personalized guitar pick junkie. I love em'
I needed some more so I decided to put my Deans on the picks. I ordered some color Steve Clayton picks and some black celluloid In Tune picks.
Got them both last week. They look cool! I'm happy!

DIMEBAG QUESTION.... ANYONE KNOW ?
WHAT HARMONIZER DID HE USE ON "BLUE LIGHT TURNING RED" GUITAR SOLO FROM BACK WHEN PANTERA WAS A GLAM BAND ?
Okay, I'm a research junky. I'd like to start a comparison string on Dean's '79 Z vs Hamer's Import Standard. Both are made in Korea, but what are the Pros and Cons? Btw, I have a Dean '79 Z BB heading my way. I did notice at certain Music Gear websites "List Price" on the Dean Z's are higher than the Hamer Standards (like $749 vs $599).
So, ladies and gentleman, start your IMHO's!

Dean as opposed to Washburn
Hi guys I'm a newbie here and I have a quick question. I have been playing for almost 20 years and always liked the Dean ML's. I don't have a lot of cash so I am looking at the bottom of the barrel just to get one of these into my collection.
What is left of the Washburn Dime Sig guitars and the Dean MLX are about the same price....What is the difference in the guitars? Anybody have real world testing experience? I realize that most of you are a little jaded towards Dean but try to be honest.
i was looking for an amp that has more gain than my peavey classic 50 head and i was wondering if any of you owned or had played one and what you could tell me about it.
I live about 200 miles from a decent music store, the one local doesn't stock a lot expensive or different brand amps so i am screwed.
Anyways thanks for reading and any info.
I'd have to say...I've always preferred Faded Denim. Especially on a Hardtail...So sexy!
I also like Blueburst and Indian Turquoise.
Until I bought my Dean, I hated transparent finishes...I'm not sure why, but no other flametop or quilttop ever appealed to me.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra
by Faust on Tue Dec 28, 2004 8:56 pm
I had the pleasure of seeing the Trans-Siberian Orchestra play at the Key Arena in Seattle on Sunday night. The show was incredible.
The band was made up of two INCREDIBLE guitar players, a bass player, drummer, two keyboard players, seven singers, a 7 piece string section and one absolutely incredible violinist.
The first half of the show was a christmas story... which did not really do much for me... but the second half of the show was a fusion of really dramatic classical orchestra music and heavy metal... which was amazing. On a talent scale they rate right up there with Dream Theater. Everyone in the show was extremely talented and the mix worked out well... It was very cool to see the cooperation between the electric instruments and the acoustic strings and pianos (electric pianos... but they sounded natural enough).
The guitar players alternated instruments for different songs. They had great tone and the mix was really good. They chose their instruments well to match the tones of the orchestra and the songs. It was very well done.
The director said that they were evolving away from a Christmas program to doing more classical music... which I was glad to hear because the classical portion of the show just totally kicked A$$.
If you get the opportunity to see them... don't miss out. The band, the music and the pyrotechnics and lasers make it as good as any Pink Floyd concert... but there is as much music going on as in a symphony production. Totally amazing!
My new GMP...bought from a Dean brutha!
Okay, I just bought this guitar from Jim (jimlp) and had to share. He posted it in the trading post last week and I was all over it like stink on a monkey.
First a word about Jim: He's a great guy to deal with. We swapped emails, had a couple phone conversations, and hashed out this sale on Christmas eve. Yesterday morning he Fed Exed it OVERNIGHT to me and called to make sure I got it. Great guy, and a great person to do business with. Thanks again, Jim!
Now on the guitar. This is my third GMP, and there's a reason I have more GMPs than any other brand. Because THEY FREAKING RULE. The craftsmanship, the finish quality, the tone...all amazing. If you haven't played one of these yet, do it when you get a second. You'll be blown away. Only my Dean Pinkburst compares to them...and I also have a Les Paul, a PRS, and an old San Dimas Charvel.
Anyway, here's a quick look.
The wife got me the Live Aid dvd set. 4 disk set! This is totally awesome... All those bands live, an historic day in music history all in one set. There is a booklet with it that tells about the whole thing. Originally Bob Geldolf(sp) didn't want the the whole event pro filmed for resale. So a few of the performances were distroyed at Geldolf's request. This happened mainly in Philly. Over in England the recorded anyway. Pretty amazing feat with limited satellite technology at the time. Great DVD. Highly recomended.

by Lon on Wed Dec 29, 2004 4:40 pm
This time I picked up a rare X610 MPC bass! Thank God the pawnshop guys around here are idiots or I'd have starved by now. Neckthru, MOP block inlays, tortoise neck binding, P bass pups AND a humbucker in the neck, with a 5 way pup selector knob. Also has 2 working MPC modules (phase shifter and frognose power boost). Completely stock and fully functional. The guy I sold my Electra Invicta to last week is already interested in it. Man I hate to sell this one because I've been wanting to pickup bass again, but money is tight....blah blah. Enjoy the pics!
Hey guys...I just won the ebay auction earlier today for a Crate Blue Voodoo BV6212 all-tube 60 watt combo. It's missing one of the plastic knobs...I believe for the Presense control, but the pot is still there and works. On to the good part....I got it for $302.85 shipped. I believe they sold for around $850-$1000 when new. I saw a couple heads in the $500-$600 range.
Anyone have any experience with these amps? I played the smaller 1x12 version the other day...it was pretty nice.
Cheap Trick Roadtrip Report (Dean Content)
by BTMN on Wed Dec 29, 2004 10:38 pm
Well I cruised up to Jacksonville yesterday for Cheap Trick.
Did a guitar shop stop or two. There are a few Dean imports out at Music Depot at Lane and Ramona but no USA's. Did see a very cool goldtop 2 Creme P-90'ed EVO that wasn't overpriced for a decent new import.
Now the show.
Opener was a talented chick-ay playing guitar like SRV, Jimi, and late 50's blues players all in one. http://www.akblues.com/ She gets to open for BB tonight at the same place. I feel for her, my friend who met her mom selling merchandise, was told by mom that a record suit had came to see her play and told mom point blank "...to bad she doesn't look like Britney or Jessica Simpson." Record execs are SHARKS but we all knew that. Sadly before T-roy told me that, I had had the same thought watching her play. If she lost the hat it makes a differance. I got to say hi to her and tell what a cool player she was to watch. She did have a few guitar tricks and I as a livingroom noodler can't say anything critical cause she could whirl circles around me.
Cheap Trick Ripped it up as usual and I could tell a month or so off was good for them. Guitar playing was cool. Guitars played were cool even if there were no real new additions to Rick's assortment. Only one he played that I could not recall seeing was a Gibber Mahogany P-90 JR with a wrap around tailpiece(no saddles style) for the bridge ala '59 JRs. It sounded great too. As much as Rick likes pointy guitars, I'm surprised I cant recall him ever with a Dean. Of course, all the Hamer guitars he is famous for were there. I will link up some photos later in the week. I got 10 shots left on the roll. Sounds like a great time to shoot a new Dean Family portrait with Fug in the viewfinder.
EDited cause I cant spell.
Dimebag leaving Washburn
by 783 on Wed Dec 29, 2004 11:26 pm
I'd only heard this/seen the pictures since his death.
Why did he leave Washburn?
I read the thread with him saying Washburn couldn't take it any further, or make a guitar that was as good as the original, but if that was the case, why did he stay with them so long?!
Until recently we hadn't seen him using a Dean on stage for years, so surely there was more to it?
Apologies if its been asked before, I did search!
New Priest tune for those interested
http://www.robhalford.de/Revolution.zip
I'm still looking forward to the new record despite this tune.
My evos are better than your eVos, nannernanner boo boo!!!
I had the soldering iron out yesterday, star-grounding and sheilding all my Strats, so I decided to "Hardtail" my eVos while I was at it. I put push-pull pots in and rewired these suckas to do some circuit chicanery that would make Jimmy Page proud. It took quite a while, and I admit that I got lost several times, , and I'm not sure exactly why, but there are some killa tones in there! I got the middle position outta phase thing and coil splits! Splitting the bridge DiMarzio while in the middle position is particlarly tasty! Rolling off the volume to about 6-7 is clean, diming is all about the snarl! Splitting just the neck p/up and in the middle position with the vol. around 6 does a kinda mild flange thing. I've been going into a Pod vs 2.0 and having a blast. Now, I need to recreate this spaghetti mess in the Black One... I got jumpers all over the place! I hope the back cover will go on! I lost a whole day(but that included a lot of plugging in and playing to check my progress) and it took a few pots and filter caps and a lotta wire, but it worked. And these are old three wire DiMarzios! Thru my live set-up, it sounds impossibly good. People will never beleive that a two-knobbed guitar is doing all that! It was a good day!
ps; Also, to keep my wife happy, I cleaned the gutters and took down the Christmas Lights.
New Year's Eve
by jim6 on Thu Dec 30, 2004 7:15 pm
Since the forum members are from around the world, it may already be New Year's Eve somewhere.
No matter how you plan to celebrate, please be careful. Don't drink and drive. Get a designated driver. Go to a party and stay there. Get a hotel room. Sleep on a couch. Stay at home and watch movies with friends. Play your guitar. Hang out with your family.
New Year's Eve is always Amateur Night. Be safe.

What color is that guitar?
by surge on Thu Dec 30, 2004 8:59 pm
Hey, I just want to know what is the color of that guitar in the pic. I want one just like it. My guess is Trans Blue, but by looking at other pics of it on the net, the color doesn't look the same. Thanks.

Cleaning off sticker goo
by JammerML on Thu Dec 30, 2004 11:02 pm
What would be the best thing to use to clean off sticker goo? I got the actual sticker off, but have a sticky residue, and was wondering if Goo B Gone is okay to use, or what would be better?
So how long till we see a computerized finish on a guitar?
I was just reading about 'electronic paper' or 'e-paper'. Paper thin video displays that can be bent and folded.
So how long till someone does a guitar finish with a similar product?
Imagine having a USB port on the back of your guitar. You plug in your guitar and change the finish. One day blueburst. A goldtop for the next gig. Transblue quilt the next.
I'd buy one.

Intersting..prices then, compared to now.......

Prices on guitars and amps, back then, adjusted to current dollars.
World Junior Hockey Championship
by smoke67 on Thu Dec 30, 2004 11:56 pm
So the World Junior Hockey Championship is currently well under way. With no NHL this has been something I've been looking forward to.
As a big Canadian Hockey fan what is it about this tourney that I've been most proud of???
The record number of goals scored by the Canadian team...the fact that this is probably the best team that Canada has ever fielded for this tourney...how the coach is doing a magnificent job of keeping his players heads in the games no matter the score...how even thought the US is hosting this tournament in Grand Forks, ND, it's the Canadian games that have the largest attendance...the incredibly hard hits that have been occurring....that the majority of the fans are Canadians decked out in red and white and are louder than any others there...that it was 166 minutes between the last 2 goals that the Canadians have allowed??? Nope.
I'm proud of the fact that in the last 2 games that us quiet, polite Canadians have drank more beer than everyone that attended the U of ND over the entire last season! The fact that on Monday the arena had to send out for an emergency run for beer because the Canadians had almost drank them dry! We do love our hockey and beer, what a combination! It makes me proud!
I AM CANADIAN!
Anyone see this guys stuff? I just ordered a pickguard for my acoustic from him. Here is a LP style but check out the other items.

2004 DOA ML - How is the Quality?
by jimlp on Fri Dec 31, 2004 2:48 am
I am no way implying that Dean would produce an inferior instrument, I would just like to know if this guitar is just a re-badged '79 series or if it has a little extra zing. I am seriously considering purchasing one of these as I am sick of waiting for a czech guitar and only have a $500.00 budget, It would seem that this guitar may be the best bang for my buck. I would appreciate it if people that own one of these guitar would chime in with your experiences. Thanks in advance for your replys. JimC
Thorn Guitar Porn
by BLOYD on Fri Dec 31, 2004 3:39 pm
A while back there was a mention of Thorn Guitars in a thread. This is a site that was just put together and features all the guitars that Ron Thorn has made to date...cool idea.
Anyway, thought I'd post this for your amusement. We all love guitars and great hand made craftsmanship right?
http://www.thornguitargallery.com/
Note: Even though these guitars are remarkable (I've only heard) they look just like a PRS Santana...I just couldn't buy one for that reason, maybe that's why all the old school PRS guys are buying them now
How would you go about chroming your guitar? I've always loved the chrome finishes. I'm thinking about getting it done to my Jackson, but how?
so i wake up this morning, look outside, and there's like over a foot outside.
Happy New Year to all yous guys.
I am going to undertake luthiering (is that a verb) my own guitar design in the next year. Just to build my own. Now I need to figure out the best woods, and What I would like to do as far as hardware. I think the following is what I'm going with.
1 - Mahogany body, neck through design, large headstock for better sustain.
2. Gibson stop tailpiece, and bridge.
beyond this, any suggestions?
Why won't Dean make a US evo?
by kevin7 on Fri Dec 31, 2004 9:16 pm
Everyone seems to agree that the Czech Deluxes and Premiums are awesome, so why no US evo? Is it because Gibson would sue over the body style? The evo is way different than a Les Paul in many ways. Just curious!
Know what sucks?

When Fedex delivers your newly acquired TC Caddy to your home 5 minutes before your lunch hour is over.
Just had enough time to tune her up and take a few pics.
I see what you guys mean about the v-necks. Really nice to play!

Who would you like to see with a Dean?
by Noah on Fri Dec 31, 2004 11:23 pm
This has probably been done be for but who would you like to see playing Dean guitars? for me it would have to be Daniel Mongrain of Martyr.
Help an idiot...
by BadClams on Fri Dec 31, 2004 11:58 pm
Ok...so I go to the "upload pics here", upload a pic and then "poof"...where the hell did it go? I got the "successful" screen, but then.... not on page 1 OR page 39. When I try the good ole "do-over" I get denied as its "already been uploaded". Nuts.
If someone could hold my hand thru this it'd be swell...
Brendan
oh yeah....and do you need to convert your pics to super-small to use as an avatar???
