Cat Baths
by Bernt on Thu Apr 01, 2004 5:45 am
haha Hilarious Laughing

From another forum

Tips on bathing the cat follow.

1. Put both lids of the toilet up and add the required amount of pet
shampoo to the water in the bowl.

2. Pick up the cat and soothe him while you carry him toward the
bathroom.

3. In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet and close both
lids.
You may need to stand on the lid.

4.The cat will self agitate and make ample suds. Never mind the noises
that come from the toilet; the cat is actually enjoying this.

5. Flush the toilet three or four times. This provides a "power-wash"
and
"rinse."

6. Have someone open the door to the outside. Be sure that there are no
people between the toilet and the outside door.

7. Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift both
lids.

8. The cat will rocket out of the toilet and run outside where he will
dry
himself off.

9. Both the commode and the cat will be sparkling clean!

Always here to give you the best of tested advice in difficult times.

Sincerely,
The Dog

Question?
by Dischord on Thu Apr 01, 2004 8:58 am
OK, there is a guitar that was shipped to me but it has either been held up in customs OR the Army has mishandled it and lost it at sea. What do I do? The USPS has a tracking number, which is expired because the guitar WAS delivered to the APO zip code (San Diego) where the military transports from there, meaning it's out of the USPS hands. Basically what I'm saying is this. The USPS delivered the guitar as far as they could, until it was out of their hands, therefore honoring their part of the deal. However, once it left their hands, well it's not yet arrived, and was supposed to be here on 15 March, and here it is 1 April, and this is NOT an April Fool's Day joke ok. Any advice? And again, the USPS NOR the shipper are to blame in this, it's purely military in nature, or Customs. Not sure which yet, but I will find out eventually!

Any Kid Rock fans.......
by BTMN on Thu Apr 01, 2004 9:42 pm
From a Kid Rock News Source Site I use all the time:

Kid Rock to Stop Touring
Detroit rocker Kid Rock, who is currently touring the US with his Twisted Brown Trucker band revealed today that his 2004 tour will be his last……ever.

Kid Rock, real name Robert James Ritchie (33), said he made the decision so that he had more time to concentrate on upcoming projects and his personal life.

"We're going to wind up the tour around November time," Rock said. "We're hoping to play one last show in Detroit for the hometown fans, that'll be one hell of an emotional night. We're going to release a live album around Christmas time."

Rock did emphasise that the decision was a very tough one.

"I feel real bad for the fans," Rock said. "They've been great. They've supported me all the way and I really appreciate them. I just hope they understand my decision."

Among Rock's upcoming projects are a starring role in an as yet untitled movie with Ben Affleck. Rock will also spend much of late 2004/early 2005 producing the N'Sync comeback album which is scheduled for release in summer 2005.

Well, I know it's not exactly a masterpiece, but it's a start to a long list of riffs and songs that I've written that I need to eventually record. Try not to be too brutal because it's an electric/distortion necessary riff played on an acoustic with no metronome. Feel free to check it out. I'll be using this thread every once in awhile as well to let you guys know when I have new music up.

by Somerled on Fri Apr 02, 2004 2:55 am
heya folks. Been away a while, getting ready for a couple gigs. (that and getting in trouble at work for all the surfing I was doing, so no more dean forum from work). Got a acoustic gig with our two teenagers this saturday, and then my other band is playing a benifit on sunday. would all be great, except guess who's amp tanked at our last practice before the gig? My beloved Tech 21 trademark 120 just decided it was going to cut in and out. I bypassed the preamp and went straight to the power amp (via effects loop return) with my gt-5, and that got me through practice. Now the whole thing is shot, with a gig in three days, and no cash to rush out and buy a replacement. Guess its time to find somebody to borrow an amp from, or else I'll be playing my deans through my 1 watt mini marshall.

perfect pickup placement
by sandwich23 on Fri Apr 02, 2004 10:11 am
I love my Dean but was wondering if anyone else wishes their Dean bridge pickup was routed a little farther back? I've owned three Deans, one vintage, and the one problem was that I felt they all had the bridge pickup too far forward which makes them sound muddy no matter what I do. (couple that with a Dimarzio and it's unusable) Is it just me? I've asked around here in So Cal and my hardcore guitar tech buddies agree. Even the tech I use for fretwork and set ups agrees the Deans could benefit from repositioning the pickup into the "sweet spot". Has anyone found a solution to this? Maybe a pickup that clears things up?
Is the solution re routing the pickup cavity, filling the hole if the cover ring doesn't cover, sand, prep and paint to match? That is not very appealing. Thanks for your input.

Recording?
by Kragax on Sat Apr 03, 2004 4:18 pm
I have a question for ya. I have been doing some recording of late using my trusty Fostex four track. I really want to go digital though, some of the prices I have seen for workstations with built in CD recorders aren't too bad but I don't have the cash and my credit sucks so I have been looking at some smaller units with USB support to tie into the PC. One that catches my eye is the Fostex 8 channel MR8.

ack - bad news on my Bich
by transblueZ on Sat Apr 03, 2004 9:42 pm
I took my Bich in to get a setup (couldn't get rid of some buzzes and have a fear of truss rods) and looks like things can possibley be very bad. The guy takes a quick look at the guitar and is like, I can fix this in like 2 minutes, piece of cake. He takes the truss rod cover off, and goes to make an adjustment and the nut just spins in circles with no real pressure applied to it.
So, he's said it's either the nut part has broken away from the truss rod - not a big deal. Or the truss rod is broken somewhere in the neck. This is a neckthrough guitar - bad, very bad. Waiting for a call back from their guitar repair guy to see what fate this guitar will have. May end up just hanging on a wall in the house or something.
New ENFORCER song
by spacebeer on Sun Apr 04, 2004 3:26 am
We just started rehearsing the first ENFORCER original HAHHA, I wrote some riffs and I recorded a trial version a few nights ago just the guitars so I could mail them to our drummer and he can figure out some kickass drumtracks.

It's not perfect, some timing mistakes but it's very hard to record the guitars without a drumtrack to rely on.

anyway here it is!

pickups gotta go

I'm thinking about changing the pickups in my EVO, any suggestions? I usually play post rock/whatever you consider Tool to be, etc... I don't know anything about pickups, but suggestions would be helpful.

Or if anybody could post soundfiles using pickups they enjoy that would help too.

I was thinking about a Seymour Duncan Jazz neck pu and a SD JB for the bridge.

Ideas?

"Nether" weed possibly becomes illegal!!
by spacebeer on Tue Apr 06, 2004 6:21 am
Hot from the presses!

Coffeeshops woest over verbod nederwiet

Coffeeshops upset about possible banning of “nether” weed.
Amsterdam – Coffeeshop owners are upset about the fact that minister Donners of Justice and Hoogervorst of Public Health consider banning the sales of netherweed. According to the society of cannabisretailers such a banning would void 40 years of government policy.

According to the retailers the amount of working component of netherweed THC has not increased the last few years. Netherweed had nothing to do with harddrugs according to them. At least that is what president J. Goos of this society said last Tuesday. “Softdrugs will remain softdrugs, it’s a matter of right dosage”.

The coffeeshop owners warn for a criminilazation of netherweed. “The situation we create is one with streetdealers and backchamber deals, nobody wants a merge between this and the harddrug world!”.

LOL I tried to translate it as good as possible LOL, this would be a revolution, a while back they even talked about legalizing some harddrugs under controlled circumstances!

i ripped apart my ibanez yesterday trying to install a new neck pickup in it and im having some problems. the pickup (dimarzio paf) has 4 wires coming from it (red, white, black, green) and the original stock only has one (red) coming from it....i originally planned to just do what the stock was doing but now im lost Sad

also, i found out, cuz ive never taken all the strings off this guitar at the same time on a hardtail guitar, i found out unfortunately that the bridge just falls off. so i guess now when i restring it im going to have to readjust the string height, so any tips on how to do the properly? no way in hell im bringing this to a guitar shop. lol.

This is for all the ebay sellers (and buyers for that matter) that know more than me. Probably most of you. I would be extremely grateful if you would read on, this would be a great deal for me.

I'm looking at a motorcycle on ebay with BIN. The price is right, but the bike is overseas, which makes me skeptical. He does have a 100% approval on both as a buyer and seller. He sent me an e-mail explaining something about Square Trade. I know nothing about this except that I've heard of it. Anyway here's his e-mail to me. Please read and point out how I could check up on him, what's right/wrong with this e-mail etc.

Quote:
Hello,
I received your email regarding my bike.
First you have to know bidding is restricted since I have some problems with some member in the past and since then I am carefull with my auction,so noone will press that button until I have the assurance that he will buy it.
The bike is in perfect condition,as new I can say, with no scarches on it,no damage. The price for the bike with shipping and insurance to your address included, is 3000$,so ,please replay with your shipping address in your next email.
Shipping will be done via FedEx and will take no more then 5-6 days.
All the manuals and the original documentation are in English. It is
made for US market and has US specs on it (speedometer in miles).
You will receive this along with all papers and recipts that you need to register it in your name.
You will receive the TITLE,keys, owner manual...
It has a Clear Title and it is in Showroom Condition.

I'm not quite sure what this is. The body is an original cross between a Dean and FlyingV. It looks like original Gibson hardware. Body looks like maple. Rosewood fretboard with mother-of-pearl triangular inlays. The headstock has a 'Gibson' logo carved and filled with mother-of-pearl.

by Hardtail37 on Wed Apr 07, 2004 10:09 pm
First....I have have to take a sec to thank Alan for hosting these couple of tunes for me...

I would also like to thank Phil for his help and the start of the DOA CD project....And also Hans for his help..

These are the tunes I'll be sending to Phil for the CD Project..

Hopefully Mark may be able to do something with the mix...
As you'll hear, the guitar is way to digitalized....too fuzzy.

Nonetheless, here they are !!

Is this the truth about Marshall amps' wall?
by downeritual on Thu Apr 08, 2004 4:09 am
Ok, I was having conversation with my friends the other day. We were talking about how to set up the mic to the amp to get the best sound out of it. Then, one of my friends started to ask how they set up mics with the wall of marshall amps. The other guy answered that the wall is just bull$hit and he said it's all just for advertisement. He continued that the real amps that those bands use located behind all those walls. It pretty surprising to me because the guy that said is one of my teachers. Also, another friend of mine said that Metallica used to do that too in the old days. He said that all the amps are fake! I completely have no idea about it, so do you guys have any thoughts on this one? I wanna know who is bull$hit?

Who Said Guys Don't Remember
by Rex Herring on Thu Apr 08, 2004 10:59 am
Who says men don't remember anniversaries?

A woman awakes during the night to find that her husband was not in their bed. She puts on her robe and goes downstairs to look for him. She finds him sitting at the kitchen table with a hot cup of coffee in front of him. He appears to be in deep thought, just staring at the wall. She watches as he wiped a tea r from his eye and takes a sip of his coffee. "What's the matter, dear?" she whispers as she steps into the room, "Why are you down here at this time of night?"

The husband looks up from his coffee, "Do you remember 20 years ago when we were dating, and you were only 16?" he asks solemnly.

"Yes I do" she replies.

The husband paused. The words were not coming easily. "Do you remember when your father caught us in the back seat of my car making love?"

"Yes, I remember" said the wife, lowering herself into a chair beside him.

The husband continued. "Do you remember when he shoved the shotgun in my face and said, 'Either you marry my daughter, or I will send you to jail for 20 years?"

"I remember that too" she replied softly.

He wiped another tea r from his cheek and said......"I would have gotten out
today."
Inner Peace
by Rex Herring on Thu Apr 08, 2004 1:11 pm
I am passing this on to you as it has definitely worked for me. And at
this time of year we could all use a little calm. By following the
simple advice I read in an article I have finally found inner peace.

The article read:

"The way to find inner peace is to finish all the things you have started." So I looked around the house to see all the things I had started and hadn't finished. So before leaving the house this morning I finished off a bottle of red wine, a bottle of white, the Bailey's, the Kahlua, the Wild Turkey, the Prozac, some Xanax, some cheesecake and a box of chocolates. You have no idea how freakin good
I feel.

You may pass this on to those you feel are in
need of Inner Peace.

And Happy Easter!

Some Vacation Pics
by DizzyDean on Fri Apr 09, 2004 9:50 am
I'm back from the Cayman Islands and a fantastic week of scuba diving. Really nice island but one of the most expensive places I have ever been! We did 18 dives in 6 days and my nitrogen levels were maxed out the whole time! I used NITROX the last day to get them down a bit before flying. The great thing about that much diving is the amount of practice you get. I started the week carrying 20lbs of weight, and by the end of the week, I was down to 10lbs and was having no problems staying down! For a guy my size in a full 3mm - thats pretty good! Dropping that weight really made a HUGE difference on air consumption. By mid week, Mrs. Diz and I were first in, last out on every dive!! For anyone that is into diving and hasn't been there, I would highly recommend it. The coral formations and underwater topography are really worth the trip. The walls are some of the best I've seen. It did lack a bit in terms of "big stuff" - compared to other places (by big stuff I mean large fish - sharks etc), but the corals were some of the nicest I have seen in the Caribbean. So, for those of you into diving, here are some pics.

This is me at about 60ft just reaching the edge of wall. In front of me - 3000ft straight down into the abyss!! You can see how amazingly clear the water is. The visibility is unlimited - you can see as far as humanly possible in water.

Image

This is a shot of Mrs. Diz and I in front of a barrel sponge on a wall. I think we were down about 80ft when this was taken.

Image

Heres a shot of me admiring a Grey Angel fish. These fish are very curious and come very close to you. They are completely unconcerned with divers. The big ones like this guy are about 1ft x 1ft in size. Not too deep on this one, probably only about 40ft or so, you can still see the surface.

Image

Here's me floating along a wall checking my gauges to make sure I still got some air left! This is probably at about 100ft!

Image

In case you wondering how we got such good pics, the above pics were taken by a pro photographer using a $3000 camera! Now on to the ones we snapped with our $25 camera!

Here we have some "big stuff" - well kinda. It was a baby nurse shark having a nap!!

Image

And here's a Giant Green Moray we found under a rock ledge. If you have ever used one of those cheap underwater camera's - you know how close I had to get to him to take this pic!

Image

Now, Grand Cayman is famous for a place called Stingray City. It is an area where the water is only about 10ft deep - in some places you can stand up on a sand bar in 3 or 4ft. Stingrays come in to be fed. They are wild, not contained and come and go from the ocean as they please. They can be fairly pushy while they are trying to get at the food. You feed them chunks of squid! At one point, one of them latched onto my arm and left a hickey like you've never seen. I actually hurt quite a bit. They eat their food by sucking it into their mouths on the bottom of their bodies. Problem is, their eyes are on the top so they can't see what they are eating! So, this one ray could sense the food and when his mouth made contact with my arm - he started sucking (oooo - too easy for jokes). He left a damn good bruise and that was through a 3mm wet suit. Anyway, heres some pics of what National Geographic called the best 10ft dive in the world!

Me and a southern stingray!

Here's me being knocked over by a ray that wanted the squid I have in my right hand!

Anyone heard of Scott Splawn ?
by CherryBurstV on Fri Apr 09, 2004 11:02 am
I was poking around online last night and ended up on splawn guitars.com. This guy reworks Marshall's into the coveted EVH "brown sound". You can send him your amp or buy a R.I. plexi already modded. The sound clips sound very nice. What's nice is with a strat and the clean channel it sounds very SRV. This is almost impossible from the same amp! I read some Harmony Central reviews, and people are raving about his mods. Just wondered if anyone has heard one of his amps.
SLAYER appreciation thread...
by Megadeth on Fri Apr 09, 2004 12:55 pm
Everyone knows who they are, even if you dont listen to metal! They have written quality songs with killer riffs, some of king's/hanneman's solos are what you call crazy wankage, but some are perfect for it. They havent released a bad record imo, some were just experimental, but you all know the classics: Show no Mercy, Hell Awaits, South of Heaven, Seasons in the Abyss and Reign In Blood.

for anyone who hasnt heard of them (hahah) buy all of these albums! Twisted Evil \m/

Honest car dealer (pics)
by Lon on Fri Apr 09, 2004 4:17 pm
Yeah that's what I thought too. I took my new Stratus in this morning to get new soe work done and had some time to walk around the lot. I saw a fire engine red 2003 Cavalier LS coupe with only 6000 miles on it, so I talk to a dealer and right before lunch we agree on a price and payments. I'm pretty happy with the deal as the car is minty mint and is loaded. Power everything, even power sunroof. DC/Cassette, the works. On top of that it has brand new custom 17" rims and some brand new Toyo tires, fat ones. Anyway, as I said we agreed on a price and I took it home to get my wife and have some lunch, then we head back to sign the paperwork. As we're walking in the dealer says there's been a little change in the monthly payment, and I think "here we go". Turns out they got some better financing and the payment is $45 less a month than we agreed! Over 60 months that's $2700! They could have just gone with the agreed price and pocketed that money. I am still floored.

I hate crappy cameras! Someone borrowed my normal one.

Icon - question for Icon experts
by Laudanum on Fri Apr 09, 2004 7:41 pm
Evening all.

Question on the now discontinued Icons.
If I'm not mistaken, the later models had covered humbuckers. But Ive seen models with open humbuckers, zebras more specifically. Were the uncovered h-buckers features of the earlier models? Or was there a lower end model with the open humbuckers and the more expensive models had the covered pu's?

What did the Icon standards with the covered h-buckers street at?
Were these models set up for coil tapping?
Finally, seeing how they are now discontinued, what would be a fair price to pay for a new Icon standard?

Something I use quite frequently are arpeggio scales in rhythm patterns...
Anyone else do this?

For instance, the chorus riff to Supernatural (the portion I play, not counting Andy's lead part) is this:

--e------------------------------------
--b------------------------------------
--g------------7------------------------
--d----------7--7--------------------
--a--------7-----7---9-9-9--10--10
--E--5--8---------8--7-7-7--8---8

Anyone else use stuff similar to this in their songwriting?

"Every person who wears fur has the blood of cats and dogs - people's family pets - on their hands," said PETA Vice President Dan Mathews.

WTF?! If this is true then people buying fur are just cheap. Like bad chinese food, if any of the ingredients are canine or feline, then you got hosed. And last time I looked I didn't have any Minks, Foxes or Chinchillas running around my backyard. Dunno about you, but on the farm we used to SHOOT foxes as they are a pest and they kill too many chickens. Which reminds me...

'Over recent months, PETA has run vociferous publicity campaigns against celebrities who wear furs. It has also been waging a crusade against fast-food giant Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) over its treatment of chickens.'

WTF?! KFC's treatment of chickens? Christ on a friggin bike!!! THEY KILL THEM AND FRY THEM!!!! What else do they want? More secret herbs and spices?

IMO the only useful purpose chickens have on this earth are feeding us. And not just with themselves. We get Eggs too. They make a great breakfast, and the leftover eggs make more chickens. Great deal if you ask me.

But now they want to put them on the endangered species list or something? Protecting chickens? Are they kidding? It's not worth it!

You see, apart from tasting terrific with roast sweet potatoes, chickens have got to be one of the dumbest creatures roaming the land. Their brain is only a percentage of the size of superior beasts such as the human and the marmoset, and as such they lack the cognative capacity to do...uh...ANYTHING except eat, sh!t, and scratch the ground on occasion. The minute someone trains one to drive a car, lemme know. 'Til then, I know what I'm having fer dinner...

So, that's good. Very Happy I'd let ya know where they are but the dude iz insane, and I still might have a shot, so I'll hold my cards close for right now. I may be putting a couple of my old Strats on the market. Breaks my heart, but I gotta raise ca$h. We'll see. Confused Crying or Very sad The instrumental piece I wrote for Ponchs' DOA CD now has vocals. I cut 'em last night, ruff ones for now. I'll fix 'em with some real mics and such later. They came to me while listening back and putting bass on it. I'm pretty proud of it, hope you all will like it. It's a strong statement of who I am musically, I think. I'm sure it will end up on a disc. I was wading thru the clutter that built up this winter, some packaging from a few purchases and there's three Dean boxes. I gotta 80's Smith Strat in a Dean eVo special Select box from ebay, and a 62 fender strat reissue in a Dean Avalanche box from a guy in Indiana. And a red Dean evo Special from ebay in a Dean Exotica box. What's this mean? Shocked I dunno... Laughing Laughing But apparently, many folks have a lotta faith in the way Dean Guitars Package their guitars! All arrived in good condition, so... Time to hunt for Easter Eggs, cya!

Nickelback gets Stoned in Portugal!!!
by CliffBurton1986 on Sun Apr 11, 2004 4:13 pm
Nickelback was playing a show in Portugal when they stopped after only TWO songs because they were being pelted by stones. Chad stopped playing and asked the crowd if there were any Nickelback fans out there and the crowd booed em off the stage. The he flipped em off as he walked off stage.

Heres a link to the news footage of it from a Portuguese TV station:
http://www.okflavor.com/okflavor/crap/nickelbackPortugal.mpg

Even Nickelback doesn't deserve that kinda treatment. I think its pretty f*cked up to pay money to go to someone's show just to throw rocks at em and boo em off the stage. Pretty low and f*cked up in my book Evil or Very Mad
Remasterd Ozzy CDs are F*CKED UP!!!
by CliffBurton1986 on Sun Apr 11, 2004 4:30 pm
I'm so mad right now. I went out and bought Blizzard of Ozz recently cuz I wanted to start collecting the classic Ozzy CDs and it said remasterd on it. So I'm thinking...ok its remasterd, just means the quality will be better right? WRONG!!!! For some reason that I am at a loss to figure out, Ozzy RE-RECORDED the drums and bass tracks for the CD. WTF?!?! Trujillo palyed with a pic and distortion, totally ruining Daisely's original lines. Mike Bordin's drums sound crappy as well. WTF made them do this??? I personally never thought there was ANYTHING wrong with the original tracks. You could hear them all perfectly.

The ONLY thing willing me not to return this CD is the fact that Randy's tracks weren't touched. I'm really pissed at this. I WAS gonna go buy all of Ozzy's classic CDs but not now since ALL of are Re-mastered. ANOTHER thing, You dun even know that they mean RE-RECORDED when they say REMASTERED until you look at the BACK page of the CD bookelt. I feel cheated outta my money... MY FIRST DEAN
by rochemy on Mon Apr 12, 2004 7:58 am
I just put a Dean Cadillac select in Layaway at the Cleveland Music Center. Got it in cherry burst too.

I think I picked the flamed cherry burst because it looks a lot like the finish on Jimmy Page's 1# les paul. I'm a big fan of ol Jim, and while I do wish to emulate him, I don't want the same guitar. (not like I could afford a gibson NEways!)

I look forward to playing the hell out of it and watching the finish age. It'll look even better after i've had some years and put some soul into it. *sigh* -the balance currently stands at $356.oo...
..I think I'm gonna get a night job at the grocery store.

Parts for my newly acquired 80 V
by huxleysghost on Mon Apr 12, 2004 1:47 pm
And before anyone posts that this belongs in the Vintage Dean section, hang the hell on.

After emailing Elliot and Mick about where I could obtain a gold plated bridge and V tailpiece for my aforementioned V, I just got a package in the mail with said parts. I would have been more than happy to shell out the dough.

VIVA DEAN!!!

How long do strings last?
by pcdoc on Mon Apr 12, 2004 2:16 pm
I bought my first replacement set of strings 5 weeks ago and last night the high E broke. I emailed Ernie Ball and they are going to send me a new set - Way to go EB!!! But they said:" Just so you know, a month is a pretty good life for a string, even with moderate use. "

Is this right? -- I was told 3 months was average???

They were Ernie Ball 2222 Hybrid Slinky (9-46)

This is the new Slipknot song called Pulse Of The Maggots. I think it's OK. The solo is kinda annoying. But I think the song is better than some of their other stuff.

This is very funny,
there IS a formula for popular songwriting.

Someone took two of Nickelbacks' songs and put them together in stereo, one on each speaker, to see the striking similarities with each one..

Earvana nut - anyone got one?
by G-Man on Tue Apr 13, 2004 9:56 pm
I've been interested in the earvana nut but didn't like the looks of the white nut with the metal screws in it. I saw the black version today with black screws. I'm thinking about getting it installed next week on my evo. I read some good things about it and I think the black nut will look pretty cool next to the ebony fretboard. Anyone currently using the earvana who could lend some real insight? Anyone else seen the black nut/black screw version installed?

If you don't have first or second hand knowledge about escrows, no need to read further.

Hey, thanks for the help everybody on my first post on the topic. This time, it (so far) appears that I actually might score a good deal on a cycle. A seller wants to know what escrow I want to use, as of now, I only know of www.escrow.com . I assume this is the escrow, right? I've found a bunch of illigitimate escrow services since I've went on the cycle hunt. Can anybody recommend one that is reputable, and of course that would save me money. But MAINLY one that both the seller and I can rely on. Thanks

THE OZZMOM GOES UNDER THE KNIFE!!!
by Original Recipe Ozzman on Wed Apr 14, 2004 9:56 pm
thats right folks, you heard it here... tomorrow morning at around 10 est... the Ozzmom... is going into surgery to remove several calcium deposits (affectionately called "lumps") from her hands... these lumps occur due to Rheumatiod Arthritis which has been in our family for quite some time... looks as if i'll be gettin it too... Sad Crying or Very sad the surgery is slated to be around 2 and a half hours, during which, doctors will (AFAIK) grind these little buggers off with a dremel tool.... after that she will be bandaged up for 2 weeks, wherest my father and i, (read: ME) will have to do many things for her, including, typing, cutting up food, writing, ETC. then she will begin physical therapy, and.. then.. go back for more surgery to remove MORE lumps, in her hands, and in her elbows....

Contributions in the form of Vintage and New Deans and assorted other guitars are welcome.....

New song by me
by NickM on Thu Apr 15, 2004 2:09 am
Hey all,

Here's a song I recorded today with my friend. I had the idea for this song for awhile, but we came up with some ideas for it, and I like the way it turned out. He did the slower lead parts, and I did the bass, rythym guitar, and the fast solo. The solo was improvised, but I like the way it turned out as well. The drums were made with Fruity Loops. Ignore the screaming at the end! Very Happy

enjoy!

Info:
They had a dream, not unlike many young musicians. They dreamt of performing music that broke the rules, or at least turned them upside down and inside out. Music with a passion, a complexity, a richness. Music filled with surprises. And they did it for a brief time, from 1971 to 1973, as a band called “KANSAS”. Several years later, songwriter/guitarist Kerry Livgren joined another band, and kept the “Kansas” name alive. The rest is history, as they say.

In 2003 they decided to make one more go —30 years later. Kerry Livgren also returned to his role as songwriter, using five original, unrecorded songs, and composing 5 new ones. The extraordinary music, perhaps best described as “progressive jazz psychedelia,” is definitely the band’s original style, forged with 30 years of expectation. The dream deferred long ago has come to life in the CD “Before Became After.”

The Limited Edition (which is all we have) comes in a lovely digi-pack and includes an extra disc with 3 music tracks and a video interview.

"This band doesn't sound like any band that I can think of," Livgren says. "Proto-Kaw is a songwriter/composers' dream. We're very eclectic and very experimental but with very tight arrangements. I love the variety. We differ from Kansas in that we've integrated a jam band approach into progressive rock, and that allows for a lot of improvisation."

The Limited Edition (which is all we have) comes in a lovely digi-pack and includes an extra disc with 3 music tracks and a video interview.

Dave ain't the only one to be hitting the stage in this here club! The lineup iz solidified, and me and my brother Matt are gonna be tearing it up. Four piece, bass, drums, vocalist, and yours truly on the guitar. Classic rock, sometimes heavy, always loud. My blues thing will carry on on the side. With the same rhythym section. We might possibly add a second guitar to the four piece, but we'll see. A 50 song setlist is pounded out, and there are highlights from all our pasts'. As well as Led Zep, AC/DC, Rush, early Van Halen, anything and everything that strikes us. Three new clubs opening in town, too! Man, I NEED THIS! Can't tell ya how much! If yer in Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin or? and ya can get us a booking, we'll come running! Wink PS, there's a BIG outdoor festival on the books already! With pro sound and lights! New release from Peccatum
by Bernt on Sat Apr 17, 2004 4:59 pm
Peccatum has just released their new long awaited album Lost in Reverie

Some of you may remember the band Emperor

yup ... another Dark band from the 90's from my neighbourhood Twisted Evil

Image

Ihsahn and Ihriel !

review to come later ! Twisted Evil

PECCATUM is by many regarded as one of the most groundbreaking and uncompromising acts to emerge from the phenomenon that is Norwegian extreme metal. In executing their unique musical hybrid of metal, electronics and contemporary music, the band continues to draw out new sceneries of desolate and melancholic beauty. With their third full-length release, " Lost in Reverie ", PECCATUM push the envelope of musical crossbreeds even further. Blurring the lines of organic performances and electronics, they indulge you in delightfully bizarre sonic landscapes and set dark music in a new light.

PECCATUM was founded in 1998 by Ihsahn (Emperor, Thou Shalt Suffer), Ihriel (Star of Ash) and PZ (Source of Tide), and soon came to the attention of Candlelight Records (UK). Their debut " Strangling from Within " (1999) was followed by tours in Europe and North-America. The EP " Oh My Regrets " and the second full-length " Amor Fati " (2000) were supported by shows on the Mystic Art Festival ( Poland , 2000) and the Inferno Festival (Norway 2001).

Got Is There Love In Space? the other day. Not impressed. It's not that it's bad, it's just that I'm not blown away by it, and that's what I've come to expect from him. There are 4 really good songs, but nothing that I'd consider excellent. It doesn't even compare with CD's like Extremist or Flying... Oh well...it's still staying in my CD player for another few weeks just so I can take it all in.

But the bolts are spaced out pretty far apart

Is this set up with sort of like a tongue-n-groove set up? where the neck continues through the body of the guitar, under the electronics and top somehow? Seems pretty weird.

Trans. Purple Icon ?Q? ...
by Laudanum on Sun Apr 18, 2004 8:34 pm
When did Dean produce Icons in Trans. Purple?
Icon Standards, not Selects .... I've seen 3 or 4 of these on ePay over the past 2 weeks, all Standards and I'm just curious when Dean had the purple ones out. I believe I saw both zebra pup and covered pup versions. Also I think all of them were the string-thrus WITHOUT the trim piece where the strings go thru the body so they must be fairly recent models, within the last 3 or 4 years I would guess ...... anyone know?

Thx!

I drilled my Del Sol!
by kevphol on Mon Apr 19, 2004 10:48 pm
OK. Now that I got your attention, there was an earlier thread about strap button placement. I mentioned there that I didn't like the way my Del Sol tilted forward because of where the strap button was placed on the back. Well, I now have a strap button on the horn, yes I drilled my Del Sol. Notice in the pics below that the angle is very close to that of my EVO.

One note of caution if you decide to try this at home: With the strap button placed on the horn the guitar does want to hang more level instead of the neck angled upward. This isn't a problem for me, but it may be for some. Overall, it really feels much better to me like this though, and it doesn't tilt forward anymore.

Just didn't like the stock pups so I swaped them out for some Dimarzios. Went with a Super II in the Neck and an X2N in the bridge. This thing SCREAMS! It is definately the hottest of all my guitars. I also put in some better pots and put a coil tap on the X2N that is pull activated on the tone knob. A couple of Black knobs with MOP inserts to add a little more uniqueness. Next - all the chrome hardware will be swapped out for black!

'Blender' Names 50 Worst Songs
Apr 20, 11:02 AM EST

Associated Press

According to Blender Magazine, "Don't Worry, Be Happy," and "Dancing on the Ceiling," may have been catchy tunes and big hits, but they still stink.

The music magazine is publishing its list of the 50 worst songs in its May issue. The songs were selected for "crap-tastic melodies," were poorly performed, or just didn't make any sense to the folks at the magazine.

Starship's "We Built This City," from 1985 topped the list.

"The truly horrible sound of a band taking the corporate dollar while sneering at those who take the corporate dollar," the magazine said of the tune.

Billy Ray Cyrus' "Achy Breaky Heart" was second, followed by Wang Chung's "Everybody Have Fun Tonight." "If this song was a party, you'd lock yourself in a bathroom and cry," quipped Blender.

Rounding out the top ten worst songs ever are Huey Lewis and the News with "The Heart of Rock and Roll," "Don't Worry, Be Happy," by Bobby McFerrin, Eddie Murphy's "Party All the Time," "American Life," by Madonna and "Ebony and Ivory," the duet by Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney.

The post-Sept. 11 anthem "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue," by Toby Keith was Number 22. The magazine says Keith's song was "so vengeful, it makes 'The Star-Spangled Banner' sound like 'Give Peace a Chance.'"

Even The Beatles made the list with "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da," which the magazine said sounded like "the desperately chirpy songs Cockneys used to sing to keep their spirits up while the Luftwaffe rained death on them during the Blitz."

The CIA had an opening for an assassin. After all the background checks, interviews, and testing were done, there were 3 finalists...2 men and a woman.

For the final test, the CIA agents took one of the men to a large metal door and handed him a gun. "We must know that you will
follow your instructions, no matter what the circumstances are. Inside this room you will find your wife sitting in a chair. Kill HER!!! The man said, "You can't be serious. I could never shoot my wife." The Agent said, "Then you're not the right man for this job. Take your wife and go home."

The second man was given the same instructions. He took the gun and went into the room. All was quiet for about 5 minutes. Then the man came out with tears in his eyes. "I tried, but I can't kill my wife." The Agent said, "You don't have what it takes. Take your wife and go home."

Finally it was the Woman's turn. She was given the instruction to kill her husband. She took the gun and went into the room. Shots were heard, one shot after another. They heard screaming, crashing, banging on the walls. After a few minutes, all was quiet. The door opened slowly and there stood the woman. She wiped the sweat from her brow.

"This gun is loaded with blanks", she said. "I had to beat him to death with the chair."
X series vs. 79 RI
by kevphol on Wed Apr 21, 2004 10:58 am
Got my 79 RI Z recently, as you guys know since I've flaunted it enough here! Yesterday got my used black MLX that I picked up cheap with a Dean case on the Bay. Other than having literally rusty strings, some chips here and there and having never been cleaned, it is structurally sound and the neck and fretboard are in good shape.

The thing I noticed immediately is how beefy the body felt. After a quick comparison I confirmed that the MLX body is about 1/4 thicker than the 79 RI Z. So, my question, are the 79 RI series just thinner bodies on the whole because those are the orgininal 79 specs, and are all of the other series including the X thicker bodies?

Riddle
by TOO OLD FOR THIS on Wed Apr 21, 2004 2:48 pm
I've got a riddle for you. The bad part is that I dont know what the answer is. Here you go..

Three salesman stop at a motel for the night. The man at the desk quotes them $30. Each of the men kick in their $10 and go up to the room. When the manager returns from lunch, he tells the man at the desk that he over charged the men by $5 and sends him up to the room with five $1 bills. The clerk decides on his way up to the room to pocket $2 himself and give the men back $3 as it will be easier for them to devide up and does so. The desk clerk hands them the three dollars and they devide it evenly, $1 each. Now here's the riddle. Each man got a dollar back meaning they now each paid only $9 each for the room. Three times nine is twenty seven dollars plus the two dollars the desk clerk kept equals $29. What happened to the other dollar?

Who the heck is Mark Miniariak, or whatever his name is? I've been a full on BC Rich maniac since 1986 and have never heard that name before. I've been to the factories and met Bernie Sr. and Jr., shmoozed with the custom shop guys, conversed with Dan Lawrence, etc. and that Mark guy has never been mentioned. His butt ugly creations/monstrosities are being claimed to be linked to BC Rich. If so, maybe he is the one responsible for the freaky looking Beast model, or the new ultra ugly Virgo. Yukkk!!!!!

Music in School
by Docter M on Wed Apr 21, 2004 7:49 pm
i probably posted this on the old board, but it's worth asking again. just curious as to how many people took music courses in school. i know that in many districts, guitar is not a starting instrument, but playing many instruments leads to playing a lot more instruments. i ask this because music and the arts get the sh** end of everything, and i feel its important that children have access to the finer side of life.

i am and have been playing slide trombone for over 4 years and i try to get into every band i can, which is currently every band offered at the school. i picked up bass a year ago because i wanted to do something different, and it has been great.

King Diamond - Puppet Master
by transblueZ on Thu Apr 22, 2004 1:39 am
I'm a little slow as usual. I recently picked up this album, and have given it a good listen to. What an amazing record. The production, song writing, solos, guitar work, drums, and even the lyrics are great (** I don't usually spend too much time with lyrical content, usually just listen to the music and how the voice is applied over top of it, not what is being said**)
The story line to this album is well written and quite emotional.

I haven't really given King Diamond or Mercyful Fate much of a listen to after Don't Break the Oath. But this album is awesome. I may have to grab another one of his concept records.

You may know they've released John Hinckley

Hinckley shot President Ronald

This is such a nice letter from the President:

Mr. John Hinckley
St. Elizabeth's Hospital
Washington, DC

Dear John:

Laura and I hope that you are continuing your
excellent progress in
recovery from your mental problems. We were
pleased to hear that you are
now able to have unsupervised visits with your
parents. The staff at the
hospital reports that you are doing fine.

I have decided to seek a second term in office as
your president and I
would appreciate your support and the support of

I would hope that if there is anything that you

By the way, are you aware that John Kerry is

Floyd Rose fun factor - another pro Floyd rant
by sandwich23 on Sun Apr 25, 2004 11:47 am
After having another awesome day out on the water riding my jet ski I finally know why I'm so into playijng guitars with a Floyd Rose tremolo. It's more fun!!!!! Just like rifding a jet ski or dirt bike that has a performance pipe on it is WAY more fun, so is playing a guitar with a Floyd. Sure toys are fun when they are stock, and you can do a lot on them, but add a hop up kit and let the good times roll!! The other day I took a non tremolo guitar to my weekly jam session and was completely let down. Of course we pulled off the same songs, but there was just not the same fun factor. Especially trying to do the middle section of Whole Lotta Love, not happening! Basically all I could do was scales (I only know a couple, mainly penatonic) and standard rock licks. I know some will say "learn to play more stuff" which is true, but I'm not in this for an education, it's all about FUN, FUN, FUN.

String-Changing Problem on HardTail
by Six Degrees on Sun Apr 25, 2004 5:48 pm
Okay-
I've had a HardTail for about two months now and have decided to change the strings. I've run into a problem however-the ball end of the new string keeps coming out of the bridge of the HardTail because the string isn't tight enough to create sufficient tension. It's not dangerous; however, it is INCREDIBLY annoying. Anyone know what I mean and how I can change the strings without going crazy?
Thanx in advance.

StationRipper.
by mpire on Mon Apr 26, 2004 8:58 am
Cool free software for downloading music.
http://www.ratajik.com/StationRipper/

That's right, I said downloading music.

From all accounts tho, this method is apparently legal.

It sits on shoutcast streams and splits up the output into mp3 files based on when the song label is updated. From what I understand this equates to taping the radio, ok for personal use, but sharing after that is a no no.

Quality is obviously dependant on the bandwidth of the station, and if they don't change the label in a timely fashion, your files bleed into each other, plus if it's a bad connection you can get some skips...

So basically it's like listening to the radio, but you can play your favourite songs over and over and you can filter out the crap.

There are some cool stations out there, I've found a bunch of bands I'd have never heard before and went CD shopping the next day Smile
Del Sol
by Truthsayer on Mon Apr 26, 2004 10:10 am
I've had my red Dean Del Sol for about ten days now and it has become my favorite guitar. At first I thought I would change the pickups for some Gibson '57 Classics, but the Dean gold covered pickups in the Del Sol sound just fine. As a matter of fact they sound great.

This guitar has a sweet bluesy clean tone and a raunchy dirty tone loaded with harmonics. I wonder why I rarely see anyone post anything about the Del Sol. Its a real gem of a guitar and a real bargain too. Dean should market this guitar more.

Subject: honest mistake

An honest man is being tailgated by a stressed-out woman on a busy boulevard. Suddenly, the light turns yellow, just in front of him. He does the honest thing , and stops at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection.
The tailgating woman hits the roof, and the horn, screaming in frustration as she misses her chance to get through the intersection with him. As she is still in mid-rant, she hears a tap on her window and looks up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer orders her to exit her car with her hands up. He takes her to the police station where she is searched, fingerprinted, photographed and placed in a cell.
After a couple of hours, a policeman approaches the cell and open the door. She is escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer is waiting with her personal effects.
He says, "I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping the guy off in front of you, and cussing a blue streak at him. I noticed the "Choose Life" license plate holder, the "What Would Jesus Do" bumper sticker, the "Follow Me to Sunday School" bumper sticker and the chrome plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk. "

" Naturally I assumed you had stolen the car."

If so, you might be interested in checking out:

www.thebearsmusic.com

The Bears is a band that released two albums in the 80's before their record label went belly-up and Adrian's solo career took off. The three other members of the band continued to perform together as The Psychodots in Cincinatti and the midwest.

A few years ago, they started writing together again, released a studio CD and a live CD. The DVD was just released two weeks ago and I got my copy last Saturday. Excellent video and great sound quality.

Their version of King Crimson's "Red" is really good.

Intonation problems on a 79 RI?
by kevphol on Wed Apr 28, 2004 4:11 pm
Anybody had any problems with intonating a 79 RI series? When I first set it up, I had to take the saddles on the G,B and E all the way to the back of the bridge. That got the E there, the B was still sharp at the 12th fret and the G was still way sharp. So, I tried taking off the saddles, turning them around and trying again. This time I got the B there and the G closer but still sharp. I was also worried about the saddles being backwards and whether the angle would pop one of those small strings.....and of course as soon as I hit that first bend up high....pop goes the E string!

I haven't had this problem with any other guitar, even my MLX intonated just fine.

BTW I also tried adjusting the action (bridge height) to no avail. Confused

Finally ordered three Custom USA Dean Time Capsules.
by Armitage on Wed Apr 28, 2004 7:19 pm
Well I finally did it. I put in my Order for three Custom USA Dean Time Capsules. After continuing to enjoy playing the Caddy III I picked up last summer, (and it competes with 40 other guitars in my collection), I have huge faith in Dean USA guitars to produce these guitars for me to my satisfaction so I ordered the three at once.

I talked it over extensively with Brian at www.WildWestGuitars.com and placed the order. He's a great guy and really easy to deal with. Even internationally. He didn't try to sell me guitars, he helped me buy them.
Big difference. He's a stocking USA dealer too.

A Letter From Your Daughter

A mother enters her daughter's bedroom and sees a letter over the bed. With the worst premonition, she reads it, with trembling hands:

It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm telling you that I eloped with my new boyfriend. I found real passion and he is so nice, with all his piercings and tattoos and his big motorcycle. But it's not only that mom, I'm pregnant and Ahmed said that we will be very happy in his trailer in the woods.
He wants to have many more children with me and that's one of my dreams.
I've learned that marihuana doesn't hurt anyone and we'll be growing it
for us and his friends, who are providing us with all the cocaine and ecstasies we may want. In the meantime, we'll pray for the science to find the AIDS cure, for Ahmed to get better, he deserves it.

Don't worry Mom, I'm 15 years old now and I know how to take care of myself.
Some day I'll visit for you to know your grandchildren. Your daughter, Judith

PS: Mom, it's not true. I'm at the neighbour's house. I just wanted to show you that there are worst things in life than the school's report card that's in my desk's drawer...I love you!

My new Czech Caddy, which I will affectionately call "Purple Haze"! Got it with a Dean HS case for less than the cost of a Korean Caddy Select. Doesn't have the BFH, but I can live with that! I hope it weighs 12 freakin' pounds! Ha! (Sorry I've been celebrating a little tonight!)

Queensday!
by spacebeer on Sat May 01, 2004 1:13 am
WOOOHOO, queensday yesterday THE day to party till you can;t stand straigt no more here.
It's actually the birthday of our Queens mother, she recently passed away but she still left us this legacy...every year PARTY! everywhere on the streets!
And guess what there was even a small metalfest in Arnhem in the East of Holland, and TANKARD plays so we can't afoord not to go!
The weather was awesome, really sunny and some 25 C, the crowd was enthousiastic and people showed up in numbers, that's really kewl since there were actually more people than at the whole Florida Sun 'nj Steel Metalfest LOL!
And there was only one international act TANKARD, the rest of the bands were local acts, Disabuse, Death By Dawn (Featuring Martin v. Drunen formerly of Pestilence and Asphyx for some metal nuts here), Heidevolk and Godess Of Desire Holland's best Venom rippoff show, very entertaining!

A stopover at some gasstation the drive was about 2 hours

Is this the venue??? yup prolly is......
