Reupholstered my amp
by Lon on Fri Jul 02, 2004 2:45 pm
I bought a Fender M-80 Chorus a couple of days back, but I just couldn't deal with the grey carpet crap it was coverd in, so I stripped it and covered it in burgundy vinyl. The first pic is a clean one, mine was quite dirty and stained. I'm pretty pleased with the results. Awesome amp.

How about some solid finish '79s like the old Flame series? Im diggin that Titanium Ice and Copper color. No flame tops, no binding, just plain ol' guitar. Probably could even bring the already low cost down even more. Im tired of the flame top look and I don't want another black guitar and Im not too fond of white. Maybe make a few with some thick metallic paint. Yeah....
Anyone catch the EVH & Randy Rhoads interviews in G-Wor
by Mike9 on Fri Jul 02, 2004 5:52 pm
A friend mentioned that this months Guitar World had Eddie on the cover and a candid interview. I thought I'd check it out and lo and behold there is the last interview with Randy Rhoads in it as well. Plus the guy who interviewd Randy was a student of his and put some of Randy's lessons in it as well - how cool is that? The EVH interview is good too. I never look at this rag, but I'll give it up for them - it's a great issue & worth checking out.
Mark (LewnWorx), you asked about the humidity and conditions
in Korea...well I'll show you this picture and keep in mind it's 85 degrees here and the pic. should explain some humidity issues you talked about before:
Dose any one own a bc rich guitar with the Beast or Widow headstock?
Okay, Cadillac with DiMarzio SD/PAF Pro vs. SD JB/Jazz
I have two Cadillac Selects. A Cherry Sunburst with a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bridge and a DiMarzio PAF-Pro in the neck. Sounds awesome.
Despite nine other guitars with various other pups, this has been my No. 1.
Now, I have an Amberburst Caddy Select and finally got a Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge and Jazz in the neck.
The idea was that these two guitars would compliment each other.
I could never have been more wrong. These two pickup combinations are like night and day. They both have a great sound, but they are extremely different.
The DiMarzios live up to their name and have a great tone.
The SD's have an entirely different tone which is not very comparable at all. The Jazz has a very very smooth slightly bassy tone which is awesome. The JB has a very very trebbly tone which is a lot like a SD Pearly Gates. Not a bad pickup by any means, but just not what I expected. It definitely rocks, but these two guitars now sound amost as different as a Les Paul and a Telecaster.
Very interesting and quite different considering the descriptions of the SD pickups that I have heard on the Duncan forum.
After I got over the lovely distraction of the poster, I remembered why I was so impressed by the new Dean Vendetta guitar. Finally a Dean with 24 frets! I think one of these lovelies is in my future, perhaps with a set of PAF-Pros, Allnico II's, or Pearly Gates pickups. Ah, yes! It will sing sweetly and high up the fret board!

Hey all,
I'm thinking of getting a '79 ML in TBZ after July 15. The place I work at just changed management, so I have to see if I get to keep my job. Anyway, what do you guys think of these guitars? How's the quality and tone? Is it worth the money? etc etc...

Hey you Dean freaks (or just freaks in some cases). I've been working on my tan line in Marco Island and Key Largo this past week! It was sure tempting to try and sneak up north to pay Dean a visit, but my family kept me busy enough with adventures everyday...boats, beaches, Everglades, Key largo reefs, you name it.
I had no internet access, so I'm just getting caught up on what flame wars I missed, what new atrocities are available on the bay, how many new guitars Don has bought and how many guitars Lon has traded this past week!
Hi guys,
I am getting a hardtail standard and am not a huge fan of the JB/59 set. I have a chrome covered Rio Grande BBQ/Texas waiting to go into this guitar, but recently I have gotten into PRS pickups.
Has anyone even tried a PRS in a Dean? I am curious if you had good results.
Thanks.

Thor's "Ezra Stone" Volume I
by BLOYD on Tue Jul 06, 2004 11:39 pm
After hearing a few sample clips Thor posted earlier last week I expected an 80’s style metal release. Just got the CD last night...let me tell ya…sample clips really don’t do much for any song or band and Ezra Stone is no exception.
After I got the CD I popped it in the player, when the opening track “Get Away” was halfway through my pre-conceived notion had changed. Ezra Stone kicks taint!
I know some people don’t care for keyboards/synth in metal but I love it…and it fits Ezra’s style or should I say creates it. Keyboard moods evolve independently and some are juxtaposed along side Thor’s rhythmic fury. The keyboards act as a real instrument not like an embellishment…very cool.
The vocals are also killer…not only does Dan Alonzo sing falsetto matching the quality of Goeff Tate his style goes beyond by adding a distinctive flavor of guttural nuances and choral symmetry.
I was impressed with Thor’s playing…killer my man! He pulls off Randy Rhoads recording techniques that are seamless, playing a track and repeating his performance again, it almost sounds as if he’d just copied the initial track and panned left/right.
No, no slop, just great articulate tasteful playing with an in your face style!
I really have a hard time finding anything I like but this CD has enough to keep me wanting more…A great CD that deserves, and will get multiple spins …great job Thor…and Ezra Stone.
PEACE OUT!

This is a Strat body (what else?) that I got from an Austin Strat (of all things). I tell you the bottom feeders are really coming up in the world. Haven't decided what to do with it yet, but it sure is purty. Actually the whole guitar is a quality piece. I may just end up upgrading the pups or making it a HH Strat. $80 at the pawn shop, and they threw in a Fender gig bag and a really nice strap.

Couple Has grox On Stage At Norwegian Music Festival: Photos Available - July 6, 2004
A young couple engaged in sexual intercourse on stage during a live performance by the Norwegian band THE CUMSHOTS at the Quart festival in Kristiansand, Norway earlier today (July 6). Tommy Hol Ellingsen, 28, and Leona Johansson, 21, who are said to be members of the activist group %$#@! For The Rainforest (web site), were called up on stage by THE CUMSHOTS lead singer, Kristopher Schau, and proceeded to have grox on stage to the crowd's applause, as the band played on. Local politicians in the religious stronghold of Kristiansand are outraged by the incident, and the police are currently considering an investigation. Check out the pictures: Photo#1, Photo#2, Photo#3, Photo#4, Photo#5, Photo#6, Photo#7, Photo#8, Photo#9.
Commented Schau: "I've always been accused of being politically unconscious, but now I've proven that I care". Asked by a Dagbladet reporter if they were nervous during the grox act, Ellingsen replied, "I had a bit of a stagefright, but it disappeared as soon as I got going." Added Johansson: "I got turned on by all the people." The intercourse allegedly continued backstage after the concert was over.

I THINK I WILL GO PLAY IT TOMORROW.
Bloyd, Wanna Play?
This is an interesting CD by our very own Brian Loyd (Bloyd). Brian describes this CD as 'Acid Metal' but it is more like 'Psycho-Trance-Jazz-Metal', and that is a good thing! Normally with guitar oriented instrumental albums you get non-stop shred fests that never really go anywhere. The guitar becomes so much white noise. Wanna Play? takes a different approach in that the guitar is shredding, but in a way that ebbs and flows with the chaos of musical undercurrent that includes xylophones and other non-traditional sounds for an album of this genre. Think Steve Vai meets The Blue Man Group meets White Zombie circa Supersexy Swingin' Sounds. The image of the CD cover (see above) really captures the essence of what you will find inside. For you comic book nerds out there (yes, I am one), if Sam Keith's comic The Maxx where made into a major motion picture, this would be the soundtrack. Highly recommended!
Last night the big brown truck arrived with my new Zen acoustic. One look at the case told me there was one nice axe waiting for me inside. When the case is that nice, there usually is.
Opened it up and wasn't surprised by the fact that it's a good lookin' guitar... The fretboard and rosette inlays I've seen in pictures before, and they're even nicer in person when you can see the two woods contrasting.
What I WAS surprised by, however, is the fact that I picked it up out of the case, put it on my knee and went to strum - only to be confronted by a perfectly-in-tune and gorgeous-sounding G chord! My god, man! I haven't heard a guitar sound like this since my father's 1954 and 1946 Gibsons! And the fact that it was still in tune after a ride in the hot truck all day, wow! For a sub-$600 guitar that's unreal.
Also of note: the transparent amber tuning keys - gorgeous.
Dean, you've blown me away - after years of not playing Deans, I'm glad to see they're as good as I remember.

ahh!!! tiki has frozen again!!! and this time, it froze both mine, and ponch's computer up... i have sent pete a pm.. but i am creating this forum, to urge those who participate in tiki's (joe, dave, hunter, ponch, mike, lon, etc.) to try an IM'ing program such as Aol instant messenger, yahoo instantmessenger, or msn... i figure, since most every tiki we have tried... no matter how well built, and coded... has still had its problems... so i figure this could be a good alternative, not to completely end tiki, but as more of a thig, so if tiki fails, or no one is in there... we can go to the im program, to either A, see if anyone is on to talk to, or B, is it crashes, we can create a chat in there...

Man, it's amazing how they caught lightening in a bottle then self-destructed all in just 6 short years. I never knew they were that dysfunctional for most of that time. Supposedly, Axl has his long-awaited release slated for this November. Gotta like Behind the Music.
It seems that the Megadeth album "The System Has Failed" due to be released in September has been leaked to p2p download sites. All I am asking is that you don't download it, but buy it. And yes, there is much drama on the Megadeth forum over this, and Dave Mustaine is pretty p'oed about it. Thanks!

Been a while since I last worked on this, but today I finally got around to putting in decent pickups and wiring up the rest of the controls ( and a bit of dremelling for good measure )
I shall take better photos outside and it can also do with a rubdown... I had just gotten down with the last connection and was more concerned with how it sounded...
The neck is an old Bill Lawrence K-500C, used to be in the baby V.
The bridge is a 1979 Dimarzio X2N Power Plus, looks kinda rough but still kicks ass.
Thanks again to Lon for having had too many guitars (or bits of guitars)

Can't wait to get into the beautiful sounds that you guys all rave about. Just wish that someone here in Australia would have enough brains to bring these babies into the country.

ROSE TATTOO live yesterday!!!
So, we planned a nice weekend in Amsterdam LOL, ROSE TATTO the bluesrock/hardrock legends from Down Under were playing Zaandam (pretty close to Amsterdam) last sunday so we figuren we might as well go for the whole weekend since one of my closest friends lives in Amsterdam.
We went to the "the Cave" club which is one of the few real metal pubs in Amsterdam was pretty cool since we ran into a bachelors Party of a girl we know.....so that was fun we hadda lotta beer, and it was far too late when we hit the straw (the sun was rising when we went home LOL).
next day we picked up (after a heavy breakfast which we really needed LOL) another friend at teh Sloterdijk station in Amsterdam early in the afternoon and went to the city centre (LOL I found a NOS TANKARD "The Morning After" shirt from 1988!!!) and browsed for some CD's and stuff, was cool!
We Left for zaandam late in the afternoon had a nice Greek meal (with a few OUzo's!!!) and went of to the "de Kade" club where Rose tattoo would play.
wasn;t open yet so we had to settle for the bar upstairs....
At 20:30 we could get in and we saw the openers V8Wankers a rockband from I thought the UK, wayway they were pretty boring at least to me!
There was not too much people then so i started to get a little worried LOL, I think the club can hold about 800-1000 people and I think when the tatts started there were about 350 there..well at least enough to fill the room a little!
Their original Slide guitar player Peter Wells wasn;t there because he was still recovering from a prostate cancer operation but he was very adequately replaced by dai Pritchard HAHAH he looked a bit "decent" compared to the rest of the tattoed terrors though!
Steve King the bassplayer came on stage with a BIG bottle of famous Grouse whisky which he would almost empty during the gig (and he still played and walked well LOL!! CRAZY!!!).
Angry Anderson was totally out of his mind HAHAH he was sooo funny, talking all the tiem he said he got a XTC pill backstage and I was kinda inclined to believe him LOL, but he was totallyinto the show and sang killer!
The sound was crystal clear and both guitarists had killer tone from the big marshall Plexi stacks! all "hits" were played "Scarred for life", "we can;t be beaten", "one of the boys", "rock 'n roll is king", "astra wally", "nice boys don;t play Rock 'n Roll", "tramp", "bad boy for love", "rock 'n roll outlaw" and a lotta songs from the new 2002 CD "pain"...."union man", "hugs and kisses", "illustrated man", "17 stitches" etc etc
It was so killer seeing these 50+ guys (OK the new bassplayer and the replacement guitarist were a little younger) kicking TOTAL ASS! the enthousiasm and the Rock 'n Roll lifestyle just were personified on stage!
I'll post some pics later Inge took some killer pics........anyone who never heard of em and like classic hardrock/rock 'n roll and particularly AC/DC get one of their early albums!!!
Exotica and Performer guitars
I need a nice acoustic/electric for some gigging and to take to college with me. Out of the exotica fm and performer, which is the better guitar? Well it's official. I picked up hotrat's purple burst Hollywood Z. I've been playing for about 28 years. Most of my time has been spent playing strat's, but I've been looking at Deans lately. I saw this one and had to have it.
Now for a quick rant, sorry in advance. I went to 3 Dean dealers on Saturday, looking for a case or a gigbag for a Baby Z. None of the dealers had one in stock, but would be glad to order one for me if I paid for it up front. No thanks, I told them, I don't want to be stuck with a case if it won't fit. This morning I called Dean customer service today to find out if a Baby Z case would accommodate the Hollywood Z. I was told the Hollywood Z was not made by Dean. After I explained that it was an 80's guitar, the woman said she didn't have any information on it and couldn't tell me if it would fit or not.
Hotrat did say in an email that he thought it would fit into a Baby Z case, but the extra scale length has me a bit concerned. Does anyone know for sure that the guitar will fit or not?
Next, does anyone have a users manual for the Trem on the Hollywood Z? I need to tweak the intonation, but I'm not sure how to unlock the trem, it's all the way down in back, and I can't get to the intonation screws.
Hey I played this amp today and I was blown away by the way it sounded. Does any body have any feed back on the Peavey XXX?

Dean Stickers
by drp1489 on Tue Jul 13, 2004 4:28 pm
anybody know where i could get a dean logo sticker??
Sorry that Jan and I haven't been online in a long time but we've been working our butt's off to get the down payment on this:
That picture was taken yesterday at 5:30 pm. Sience then I drove it home, I drove it to Berwick to take Jan lunch at work, I took it to get a cd player put in it. I got about 1 min up the road (which was pretty heavy traffic so I wasn't going very fast) and got into 3rd gear (which was 50km/h) and next thing I knew, I couldn't see. THE HOOD WAS UP IN MY FACE! It smashed up the roof, the windshield and the hood!)
I was ok, so I turned around and went back to show them what they did to my car. The CD player guys told me the never opened the hood and said they had tapes to prove it.. They NOW will not produce the tapes. They are blaming the kia dealership. saying the latch didn't work. Well it did. Anyways all said and done. we are getting a friend to fix our car. it's cheaper. I would like to take the cd player guys down but it means going though a lawyer that means we have to go though insurance which makes our insurance almost $5500.00 next year!!! We only paid $8000.00 for the car!!! I'm angry!

Del Sol or Artcore???
by mcvinyl on Wed Jul 14, 2004 2:45 am
Hi all,
I've been looking for a hollowbody stype guitar for a while. I had an Epi Les Paul ES Florentine lined up to purchase but the guy backed out last minute !@#$. So I'm back on the market. It's coming down between a Del Sol or Sarasota (which is better?) or an Ibanez Artcore. Anyone here have any experience with the two as to pros/ cons. Everything I read about the artcore's is positive but then same for the Dean's. I see 60'srocker had/has a Del Sol for sale. I've played a Bocca and it felt good. Does the Del Sol feel the same? Can anyone give me any help?
Thanks

I was at the guitar store today when I saw him walk in. I was like "No way, that can't be Fat Mike!" but it was. I asked him for an autograph, and I got one. But... man, he doesn't seem very nice! Well, he wasn't a dick, but he didn't really seem too friendly. I guess he doesn't like it when people ask for autographs...
Oh well!

EVO SS Roller Bridge add-on ?
I was hoping someone could guide me to the correct roller bridge for my EVO SS. (Chrome)
I think that if I find the right one, changing it out should be pretty simple. I have seen where there are different sizes. Can anyone guide me to the one that bolts right on ?
Any guidance appreciated.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT......................
I'm sure you all probably saw my post about suggestions for inventory for a ebay store. At the time, I thought that the proper thing to do was to go to the people and ask what they'd like to have in a store. Who better to ask then those of us who all seem to go there at least once a week! After reading all the fabulous suggestions , which i appreciated very much- hey guys! The stock is building! But, after reading the post about the need of guitar straps - boy was i surprised! Upon doing a little(ha-ha) research much to my surprise after doing a search on it found out that there are 46,192 sites on the net selling them. But here is the bad part- so far none have a DEAN strap. Is there such a critter?? Or is the demand really so great that nobody can keep them instock. I even found some which carry some that are airbrushed- and a few snakeskins-YUCK!! just a little input i wanted to share. thanks.
Goddamnelectric's Auction
I bid on that guitar GDE was trying to list on E-bay. My bid came in short of his reserve. Now, we all know his practice of yanking auctions and how he screwed Hans by refusing to sell the guitar Hans won on E-bay.
Today I get the following e-mail from him:
Hello, are you still interested in buying the vintage Dean ML? I need the cash and can't afford to relist it. I'll give you a great deal if I hear from you. Regards, Ted
Now that boys and girls is strictly against E-bay policy. So, I immediately reported him with:
Member is bothering me, asking me to buy off E-bay
I urge anyone else that has a legitiment complaint, or, anyone else that recieved the same "off Ebay" offer I did, to report him NOW. Perhaps a few complaints at the same time might torpedo his ship!

Seems like there has been a few norwegians moving to the US over the years...
Sigurd (my name) is actually one of the oldest norwegian names. Many of the viking kings were named that, and as far as I know it is not used in any other countries....
Well, that's it for todays "completely uninteresting trivia that you'll never ever get to use for anything...!"
Pickup swap
by mr_ed on Fri Jul 16, 2004 7:36 am
I felt that my E'Lite and DOA Caddy sounded too much alike, so I swapped in a Dimarzio Air Norton and a Seymour Duncan JB. Wiring was straightforward once you know manufacturers convention - no standardization here - SD black is output, Dimarzio it's red. Dimarzio literature explained wiring of a 4 wire to the coil tap switch, as the existing Deans were 2 wire. Anyway, this a rockin' combo! I haven't played it too much - I started it late and finished at 11:15 last night, but I did crank it for a minute and I was pleased!
This is not a task for the impatient - it's a tight spot to work in, the lugs on the pots are small, and it's easy to get aggravated. But the result was very rewarding.

Stock VX pickups ?
by skitsoy on Fri Jul 16, 2004 9:26 am
Hi all,
A while ago I bought two of the cheaper priced Dean V (one VX and one Platinum V), they both are awesome guitars.
I have been upgrading parts of these guitars (graphtech saddles, pickups), but the stock zebra Dean pickup in the VX sounds amazing, and no matter which other pickup I try in the Platinum, I cannot achieve a similar or better sound than the stock pickup.
I currently have a seymour duncan 59 in there, and I'm not really satisfied.
Therefor, I'd like to buy a Dean stock pickup as they are used in the VX series, but does anybody now which brand these actually are, or is someone here willing to sell me one ?
Best Regards
Kenny
by Kragax on Fri Jul 16, 2004 11:30 am
Well, Kenny the rooster costs a lot of money, but the
farmer decides he'd be worth it. So, he buys Kenny.
The farmer takes Kenny home and sets him down
in the barnyard, first giving the rooster a pep talk.
I want you to pace yourself now. You've got a lot of
chickens to service here, and you cost me a lot of money.
Consequently, I'll need you to do a good job. So, take your
time and have some fun," the farmer said, with a chuckle.
Kenny seemed to understand, so the farmer pointed
toward the hen house and Kenny took off like a shot.
WHAM! Kenny nails every hen in the hen
house, the farmer is completely shocked!
After that, the farmer hears a commotion in the
duck pen, sure enough, Kenny is in there.
Later, the farmer sees Kenny after a flock of geese, down
by the lake. Once again - WHAM! He gets all the geese.
By sunset he sees Kenny out in the fields chasing
quail and pheasants. The farmer is distraught and worried
that his expensive rooster won't even last 24 hours.
Sure enough, the farmer goes to bed and wakes up
the next day, to find Kenny on his back, stone cold
in the middle of the yard with vultures circling overhead.
The farmer, saddened by the loss of such a colorful and
expensive animal, shakes his head and says, "Oh, Kenny,
I told you to pace yourself and I tried to get you to
slow down, now look what you've done to yourself."
Kenny opens one eye, nods toward the vultures circling
in the sky and says, "Shhh, they're getting closer".
Some interesting stuff...

For the shredders
by Lon on Fri Jul 16, 2004 4:18 pm
This video should be required viewing for new kids picking up guitar. I never was a real shred head, but this is pretty stinkin' impressive and definitely a lost art. It's a long video of the "Stars" song for Africa from the 80s. I watched this for the first time today, never having heard the song or Yngwie before. Of course my man Dave Meniketti is the first singer on the song (at the end of the video).

by Hunter on Sat Jul 17, 2004 11:42 pm
Ok...
I want to use the line out from my computer's sound card (soundblaster live value) to run into my pocket rocket practice amp... ya know, so I don't wake the neighbors up...
So far, everything I've tried has been a bust... tried changing the speaker config to stereo headphones, used a 1/8" mono cable, a 1/8" stereo cable, tried patching in off the analog jack off the back of my speakers...(which does work, but does not cut off the spaekers on the desk top...)
Any one have a word of advice before I become completely enraged and give my computer flying lessons?....

Mockingbird. At last.
by mpire on Sun Jul 18, 2004 3:54 pm
I've had this mockingbird project going for almost two years now..
I started it before I got into Deans.
It's had ups and downs, but is a tremendous learning experience. One day I'll refinish it as I wasn't really sure what I was doing initially and it's still kinda orange peely (bit at least now it shines!).
So here's some pics.
First one showing off the nice grain.
Flash pic,
it still needs a neck pickup and wiring. I'm thinking black dome knobs for volumes, and a black dome qparts knob for tone with a blue insert (same as my white '79 has chrome & a red insert). If I was thinking harder when I specced it I'd have gotten the 3 way switch like normal guitars have, but this will give some coil spitting fun...
and finally...
Dean, B&T Dave, and my wife. . .
by rlm5150 on Sun Jul 18, 2004 5:33 pm
are all awesome. In very different ways of course.
Beware, long story ahead.
I have been wanting a new acoustic for some time now. I find that over the past year, I just don't get to play with any of my electrics much. Not that I don't want to, it's just the circumstances. We bought a nice new house last fall, and I have a room designated in my basement as my music room. I have plans for extensive soundproofing and acoutic treament, but my wife keeps me busy with the rest of the house and I haven't been able to begin construction on that room yet. I don't get to play much, between projects my wife gives me and the long hours at work this year. When I can find time to play, all the kids are in bed.
So, I have been playing my acoustic mostly. I have been looking at Deans acoustics for over a year and finally decided what I really wanted was the Exotica RSE. I also knew I wanted to have the saddle replaced with either TUSQ or bone.
Last month was our anniversary, and my birthday. My wife kept saying she wanted to go to K.C. for the weekend. So, we made plans, and I planned on dropping by to see Dave @ Bass & Treble on the way. Thought I would drop off my old acoustic and have him replace the saddle with bone.
My wife, Linda, started walking around the store, checking it out. It was our first time at the new store. Very nice store too, by the way.
After I showed Dave what I had and what I wanted done, he brings out a Dean case and says "we just put a bone saddle on this one, if you want to take a look and see what a difference it can make.
After I open the case, my wife comes back over by me and asks what it is. I say "This is the model I've been wanting!" Very nice. Started to play around to check the string response and sustain. Then Linda says to me "That's yours!" I couldn't believe it. She had been e-mailing Dave and set this up!
Wow, what a wonderful woman I have. I'm very lucky to have her.
In talking with Dave, I found out there is more to the story. Seems my wife is a bit of a procrastinator. (I knew that). She had originally talked to Dave and she knew Dave needed 3 weeks notice to get something in if he didn't have it in stock. Well, my wife had finally decided to get this for me only one week earlier . She wasn't sure if Dave could pull it off with such short notice. She told him it was an anniversary/birthday gift to me and also told him I wanted a bone saddle made for it.
Dave said he would see what he could do, but wouldn't make any promises. He called Dean and told them the story. They ended up shipping one out 3-day delivery. So Dave got it just in time to make the bone saddle for it.
And I have to say, the saddle they made is a very nicely made compensated saddle. The intonation is about as close as you could hope for on an acoustic. Really opened up the sound a lot, the low end is back where it should be for that style guitar, and the volume increased. All it needs now is to get rid of those darn Elixirs. I've never really cared for them.
So, thank you Dave for pulling this off.
And thank you Dean for your responsiveness to one of your finest dealers.
Have you heard of a radio station called T.N.T. ? Here is the website: http://www.omroephw.nl/users/tnt/
They are asking for a CD for airplay and am curious if you heard of them.

Looking for an WAV-MP3/MP3-WAV converter
by NickM on Mon Jul 19, 2004 10:03 pm
Hey all, I got an assload of acoustic drum samples off a site I found on Google, but the problem is that they're all in MP3 format, and for Fruity Loops, the samples have to be in WAV format. And my other problem is that my POS recording program only allows 20 free MP3 mixdowns before you have to PAY to make your song an MP3 (go figure), so everything I've recorded with it so far is in WAV format. Can someone suggest a free MP3-WAV/WAV-MP3 converter?

wow are they heavy!
i just bought this evo special select from a friend of mine (for $300 i hope i got a good deal) it's in great shape and i love the color.) it's a heavy guitar! not as bad as gibson or epiphone i suppose but it's the first lp style guitar i have owned. i'm used to an old fender acoustic or this strat copy i have, it's fairly light.
anyway the special select plays great, i've been playing for 5 years and it's about time i bought a new guitar.
Dean represented in guitar buyer's guide...finally!
by kevphol on Tue Jul 20, 2004 2:00 pm
Just picked up a "2005" (it's a little early) guitar buyer's guide and flipped through it. Once I got passed all of the scantily clad "girly" pics from the Carmen Electra cover to the 4 page centerfold to the pics strewn throughout, I finally realized that there were indeed guitars and music equipment listed. It is a bit ridiculous, I mean Geez, I almost felt I had to sneak this thing into the house to keep from getting in the doghouse with the wife! Then, low and behold Dean electrics, acoustics, etc. represented as well as a full page Hardtail add! So nice to finally see Dean guitars with some marketing in some mainstream publications.
Then again, it has been our little secret right? Oh no...cat's out of the bag!

also, how the hell does this batter thing work? the instructions say "solder it to red" buh uhh.....how? does this mean white goes to the pot and red goes to battery? and if so, whats the black on the batter clip go to, the switch? for some reason my schematic shows a Y split on one of the wires from the clip...

I just picked up an older ESP LTD f-100 with SD's and a Kahler bridge recenlty. It was pretty much bought and not played but a handful of times. Not a bad guitar for entry level, my kid should have fun in a couple years. And I can write some new songs on it instead of an accoustic. Anyway in the same deal I got said guitar I got a Peavey Rage 158. I am not a huge fan of peavey ( have my reasons after owning a few) and I must say I was impressed by this little master piece. The clean channel blows away my Danelectro and with a digitech rp50 it has a crisp distortion and effects package. I haven't bought a peavey in about 8 or 9 years and avoided them like the plauge after some bad luck with a few. When did they start making these transtube amp series? Overall I am enjoying the combo I got, the added bonus of $175 for all 3 pieces guitar, amp and pedal I think I made out great. Are all the newer amps as balanced as this little amp or do they still pump out a few pieces of crap? I just thought I would say how surprised I was by the amp and mention that I found a sweet deal. Now if I could find another Edge Q4 for $150 like I did in a second hand store I would be bustin wood again.

Got a call from an old drummer this weekend......
Looks like he is looking to do a little re-union studio/tour project and asked if I would be interested in hitting the studio to do some new tunes and redo some old ones. I really can't do the tour part (full time job, car payment, soon to have a mortgage.) Figured, I can't pass up free studio time. Who knows if/when this will happen, but should be fun anyway. I won't be using the Z though - I really don't want to have it set up tuned down to B - that's just a bit low for my likings.

My Evo SS rebuild is finished and it ROCKS!!!
by Mike9 on Wed Jul 21, 2004 2:04 pm
A while back I bought an Evo SS on eBay. (the one that took three weeks to make a 1/2 days drive ) Anyway it was in not so good shape, but I kept it thnking it might be an opportunity to expand my knowledge of guitar mechanics. Over the last month, or so I repaired a nasty chip in the headstock, made a bone nut, polished the frets, milled the control cavity for two extra pots, converted the STP & a new Gotoh TOM to tone pros locking style, covered and potted Duncan Pearly Gates (neck) and a SH-6 Distortion (bridge), soldered up a Jimmy Page switching scheme with foure push/pull pots, and installed Grover locking tuners (these are sweet!!). After polishing the finish and final assembly it's back together and plays some sweet after a complete setup with GHS EJ Nickel Rocker 10/50's. Here's pics of the control cavity, four knob setup & the whole guitar - this is the way all Evo's should be IMHO

Street Team / Dean merchandise
by decky on Thu Jul 22, 2004 9:12 am
hey is any1 else in the Dean street team, does any1 know when that member area of the website will be opening? ah well this will do for now,
feel free to share your ideas on how to promote them, with the stuff provided in the first promo pack.
p.s what other merchandise would you like to see from dean?
Saw and played Three pickup EVO's
A friend of mine has two of them and he said as far as he knows
there are only 4 that were made. Both of these have Tiger Eye tops
One he replaced the pickups in. He put Gibson Dirty Fingers in the neck and middle. The other he left stock with Pearly Gates I think he said. I didn't get to play them to long since he was busy finishing putting his studio together . They both felt like my EVO and were very resonant unplugged. They sounded very different plugged in because of the pickups of course.
I hope to get back over there to take some pics. I probably won't get to it until next week.
hey,
Ive seen several articles on a relatively new product from tascam that plays a standard cd and has many cool features like you can slow down the music to more easily learn guitar parts, you can plug your guitar into it to practice with the song, it has built in effects and more. I became interested in this mainly for its ability to slow the music down without affecting pitch, but a lot of the review ive read about it are not very good. Has anyone owned/used one of these? Are they worth the $150 or would it be a better idea to just purchase computer software that does the same thing for less money?
thanx,
rYaN
Where do you pick?
by Lon on Thu Jul 22, 2004 2:55 pm
Don't be gross. What I mean is, what part of the body does your picking hand rest on? Reading the thread about the 3 pup EVO got me thinking about this. I find that I pick directly over the neck pup, whether it's a single coil or a hummer. I start in between the neck and middle, but invariably gravitate forwards.
John Pearse
by Ziggy on Thu Jul 22, 2004 4:09 pm
I just put on a set of new strings on my V.
The brand is "John Pearse" and they sound amazing!
Anyone else tried these?
I don't know how many people know/like this band, but I had to they are touring with The Cure, but I am going for Mogwai! If you haven't heard of this band, CHECK THEM OUT! Beautiful music!
With an album titled "Happy Songs For Happy People" how can you not like this band? Anyway, I was thrilled when I found out they were playing in Dallas.

14 years old?
by Ziggy on Fri Jul 23, 2004 1:41 am
Some of our fellow forumites are as young as 14 years old (maybe even younger).
But all you other guys:
If you were 14 again today, what would you have done differently in the years to come in comparison to what you actually have done?
(I'm NOT talking about going back in time to when you were 14, in which case I guess most of you would have bought a fair amount of Microsoft shares and 'new' Dean guitars...)
I would:
1: Have started to play the guitar and practiced regularly
2: Selected a different education (Maybe teacher or in health- care)
3: Spent even more time friends. (A few have passed away over the years). Most friends you make when you get older are not as close as the ones from adolescence...[/u]

Acoustic Songs

Anybody know any good acoustic songs??
Kinda like a 3 Doors Down sound.
thanks
We played that warrant gig on tuesday...
What's up guys!
Just stopin in with an update.
We rocked that Warrant gig, and I wanted to post some pics...
It was a ton of work between selling tickets and putting up with angry promoters trying to shaft us somehow...
This has been a major learning experience for us.
Anyhow, here's the pics from yesterday and as always, I'm playing an ML.
We saw a bunch of slaghammer shirts out there yesterday... I love it!
This is our Drummer Justin with Mike Fasano of Warrant.
Here's one of Justin and I with Joe Le'ste and Chris Slade of Thunderstruck... {they are a KILLER ac/dc tribute band}
I'm not even a big ac/dc fan but they ruled last night.
Chris Slade originally drummed for ac/dc...
He is a really nice guy.
Well...at Dan's request, I'm writeing this general message.
Things have been one giant SNAFU for me lately. It all started a few months ago when I met someone. She and I fell in love, and I eventually moved in and helped watch her 3 children. Eventually, since she went from a marriage, direct to me, she decided that she needed some time alone, and she and I broke up. About 2 weeks after that, she went to a party, and was supposed to be home some time about 3AMish. I waited up, being worried and over imaginitive, and when she finally got home, everything I wanted to tell her just came out wrong. Terribly wrong to the point to where I really regret even knowing her.
To make a long story short from there, I was kicked out, and from there, things took turns for the worse. At the moment, I'm staying with a friend of mine who's going through her own problems, ironically enough, due in most part by my ex-s ex-husband.
So now I'm in counceling, and going to be getting meds in my system early next month as I've previously been diagnosed with Bi-Polar Disorder as well as a couple anxiety disorders and apparently depression along with it.
I have been visiting the forum on occasion though, looking to see what's been going on, but never replying to anything.

Hey, I checked my other email account today, and I got this:
http://www.deanguitars.com/userpics/lib2/New%20virus.jpg
It's weird because I set my security so only people in my adress book can email me. I know the person who sent it to me (not her fault, probably), but when I checked my adress book, she wasn't on it...
But anyway, if your email provider doesn't block the attachment, don't open it!!!

Best and worst vehicles you ever owned.
Worst - 1982 GMC S15 Pickup. This was the first year for the electric overdrive transmission and mine went out at 60,000 miles. This was a real heap and I only kept it two years.
Best - 1999 Chevy S10 truck. I drove that baby for 178,000 miles and it never sputtered once.
The Nut on my MLX broke
by pete99 on Sat Jul 24, 2004 5:04 am
I was using heavy guage strings and the part of the nut on the Low E chipped off!... bah...thats what happens when they use cheap parts on a guitar.
im having it replaced with a nice brass nut. They should use Bone nuts, or brass i think not cheap plastic. I just had the guitar setup a month ago to.
Dont use zakk wylde signature guitar strings, they are more like steel beams then strings, much to heavy on the low end.
...Elliot mentioned changing the nuts on the 79's...what happened with that idea? And what about the replacement nuts? Is this going to become a reality, or another "lost with the old forum" idea that we had here?
Anyone need chrome pickup rings?
I bought some for my EVO and they don't fit! they are a hair off, argh. Oh well, my loss and anyone else's gain! I JUST WANT TO GET RID OF THEM, I DON'T NEED THEM.
I am going to take the cream rings I have up to guitar center and play the match game.
Respond here or PM me if you want the rings they are yours.

CAN ANY1 HELP ME WITH MY MLX
by decky on Sun Jul 25, 2004 11:12 am
hey if any1 can help me it would be great... i got two problems... first of all.... about the mlx itself, can any nut of the same dimension (1-11/16") replace the original, and if im replacing the bridge, im left handed so does that matter? im nearly sure it does but hey im an amatuer...lol, i just wanna make sure
and finally, i use a zoom g-fx4 processor, so am i able to use one of them radio transmitters if i pick one up over the next month or so? i dont see why not, if its just replacing the lead from my guitar into the input of the pedal, but again i just need to make sure, my local music shop is a bit crap, and thats why im askin here...
thanx

ZZ Top, Keith Urban--> It aint me!
Back home from a long raod trip, which killed several birds with one stone... Headed out west to see a bone doctor, visit the school my oldest son will attend next year, and see ZZtop at Cheyenne Wyomings' Frontier Days. We piled both kids into the new van and headed for the Rockies! Now, I ALWAYS have a guitar with me, wherever I go, so... After checking into our hotel, (the wife and kids were already in the room) I went back to get my guitar-in-case from the van. Two young ladies(one in serious need of a skilled dentist/orthodontist, such as our own Randall M! ) approached me from behind asking for my autograph. Huhhh? I said in disbelief. Well, they thought I was Keith Urban, the Australian Country guy who plays a Tele. Naw, I'm just a former metal guy turned blooz guy from Iowa! I guess he was playing there the next night, so they figured it was him. I had my wife cut my hair when we got home, it was kinda moppy. So... That's my touch with fame for this week, how was yours'?

Here's the lyrics!
Beer belly (28-07-04)
We all know that we like to drink
So quitting´s not an option
Tried puking in the kitchen sink
Offered my liver for adoption
For practising this noble sport
No stamina is needed
Just hanging in your lazy chair
Get obese while you are seated
Beer belly
hanging over your pants
Beer belly
leaves females into trance
The Fridge is full when you arrive
You’re tired and stressed out
The gym is such a long long drive
So you grab another stout
Beer belly
hanging over your pants
Beer belly
leaves females into trance
Who cares about Obesity
It’s the beer muscle of strenght
The proof of masculinity
We keep drinking till the end!
Beer belly
hanging over your pants
Beer belly
leaves females into trance

Compressor/sustainer questions
by NickM on Thu Jul 29, 2004 8:55 pm
Hey guys,
My cousin sent me his old DOD compressor/sustainer as an early birthday present (he has a POD or something like that, so he doesn't need the compressor), and I was using it... but there isn't much of a difference in my sound. What is the main purpose of the compressor? Mine didn't come with a manual. Also, is it supposed to be in my effects loop of my amp?
Thanks!

Chrome pickup rings for EVO Special Select
DO THEY EXIST? OR DO I HAVE TO KILL SOMEONE/SOMETHING IN ORDER TO GET THEM?
I tried Guitar Center, and i told the guy IN THESE WORDS "I TRIED THE CHROME GIBSON PICKUP RINGS, AND THEY DON'T FIT. DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING ELSE." So, what does the dotard hand me? GIBSON BLACK PICKUP RINGS and he says "try these and see if these work. I JUST TOLD HIM I TRIED GIBSON!!! IS THE IDIOT DEAF! I hate Guitar Center, HATE IT!!!
Personally, I hope that individal gets Syphilis.
Anyway, I went to my favorite little place Murphys Music, but they didn't have anything that would fit either. They had a brand that seemed more like something Dean would use "All Parts", but they didn't have anything in chrome or anything that matched the holes on my pickup rings.
So, DO THEY EXIST?
im tired and yeah this guitar is going to give me an ulcer
O.K., so which ones are actually going to be available and, which ones were just for show?
How much for the Cabbie Stylist or P-90 Stylists? When are they available?

Need advise on which dean to buy
by JP1M on Sat Jul 31, 2004 9:37 am
Hello all. I am looking to buy my first dean, but don't know which one. I have narrowed it down to a evo special or the Icon standard. the Icon standard is a black one. the evo is blue. My question is: Can anyone give some feedback on the Icon standard. I heard that the strings break easy on the string thru body. I need a decent axe that has great sustain. to fit my budget. Thanks in advance.
Hey guys, i just bought a brand new american strat. I was very happy. But when i got home and plugged it in my amp (peavey blazer 15 watt) and turned it to the max, i was getting extreme hum... is this supposed to happen? I would get less hum on some of the pick ups, and more on others.

GUITAR PRO 4
by decky on Sat Jul 31, 2004 4:55 pm
hey does anyone out there use guitar pro 4? i got my hands on it ages ago but i only really started using it in the last month, its pretty cool as well as handy for gettin your songs wrote down
if any1 has it and wants to exchange songs for different opinions e.t.c it would be good craic........keeping in mind the copywright laws of course!!! i dont know what the law is in america, but here, once you write a song down, it becomes copywrighted, the only problem is then proving it in court if some1 did steal, so i have recorded the dates and made copys of tablature and posted it to myself, leaving the envelope closed, and that way its recorded by the post office that i posted it on whatever date and so any1 who steals the songs will be fu#cked..lol
but anyway back to guitar pro, anybody use it?
