Who is your main influence?
by Dim3 on Sun Aug 01, 2004 8:50 am
Who is your main influence musicvise?! It can be a band or a Player Include a Pic!
For me,
-Alexi Laiho, he has so many projects going on which i like so, it'd have to be him!
He's the one to the left!
To use or not to use… that is the question.
I recently completed my “guitar room” and mounted twelve String Swings to accommodate, not necessarily store, a few of my axes.
My main question is whether or not extended use will cause any damage to the neck, or for that matter, any detriment to the guitar overall?
Any and all responses appreciated…!
CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW MUCH A 82 BABY V IS WORTH?
by 82babyv on Sun Aug 01, 2004 10:59 am
bought a half stack yesterday
I finally broke down and bought a new amp. I love my Crate VC50 combo, but 50 watts just doesn't cut it with a whole band crankin'. After trying out Bogners, Marshalls, Mesas, Peavey 5150s, and others I decided to let my ears tell me which head to buy and I ended up with (of course) the Crate Blue Voodoo 120w. This thing shreds, no effects, just straight in. It's like my VC50 on steroids. the tone is awesome and best of all, it's quiet. Just as important, I got a Marshall 1960b cab with the gt75 celestions. I tried the vintage 30's, eminance, g12h30's, but this cab had the tightest bottom and best crunch. Needless to say - I'm stoked!!!!
Crate amps kill!!! That is American made all tube Crate amps!!!
washburn dime series?
by sbill on Sun Aug 01, 2004 11:37 am
how does washburn get away with making the dime series guitars when some of them are like exact copys of an dean ml? Even though he is odviosly endorsed by washburn now I bet he still has plenty of deans running around and I bet he prefers them. I guess washburn gave him a sweeter deal or something?

I fell in love with this thing the first time I saw it at the NAMM show. Sweet guitar. Any idea on when they will hit the streets. I'd really rather have this one from the show for obvious sentimental reasons. Does anybody know which dealer bought it?

CC Clark guitars
by Lon on Mon Aug 02, 2004 10:14 am
Anyone know anything about these? I'm guessing they were made in the 80s or 90s. Can't find anything about them on the internet anywhere other than the picture here. Found one at the local GC for a giveaway price, just making sure it's not a ply body. The site that has the one in the pic says it's not ply and is asking $150. The one I'm looking at is identical but is only $89 and plays really nice. Anyone?
Urgent:Need help on specs of Icon Standard.
by JP1M on Mon Aug 02, 2004 1:19 pm
Hello all again. I am waiting for my first dean Icon Standard to be sent to me. I was looking at all the other dean icon standards on the web and noticed a difference in the scale and nut size. I hope I didn't get burned. The scale size of the icons that i have seen on the web are: 24-3/4" Scale & 1-11/16" Nut and does not have the word Icon on them. The scale size on the one I bought are: 24 5/8 Scale Length 1 5/8 Nut Witdh. and has the word icon on it.
I am suddenly very worried about this, as i cannot find another one like the one i bought on ebay. It is a glossy black. can any shed some light on this for me please. Thanks in advance. Hope the pic thing works.
This guy has a thing for birds but some ar really cool.

Line 6 Variax thoughts
by mcvinyl on Wed Aug 04, 2004 4:04 am
Hi,
At the risk of getting in trouble for even mentioning this kind fo guitar I was wondering if any of you have had any experience or thoughts on these? I seem to remember that one of the guys here won one or something. I have an opportunity to pick one up from a guy pretty cheap. I was thinking of retrofitting the electrics into a different guitar body as I think they are pretty ugly, and I've heard there not exactly a playable guitar. I know there is no substitute for the real deal but then I'll never afford the real guitars anyway. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Simon
OK why is it that companies that make guitars and amps generally excel in one area and blow in the other? Are the research departments of the guitar end working that diligently that the amplification room gets no funding or vice versa or what?
Case and point:
Peavey. Great amps, sure not the best in the world, but great nonetheless
I wouldn't be caught dead with a Peavey guitar, and if I had a Peavey any of you guys could find it within 48 hours on a pawn shop wall.
Line 6. Outstanding sounding amps, but I hate their guitars, especially the VARIAX...
Any clue on this phenomena?
And a suggestion...why doesn't Dean research and market a 4X12 SS and 4X12 tubed amp to go with their guitars, but of the same quality and excellence that we get on our axes? You know, with some good heads with sound to rival ENGL and Marshall and Peavey and the other monster companies that market such items?
Dean MLX
by tnvol on Wed Aug 04, 2004 2:25 pm
Hey all. I'm new to the board. I've been playing guitar for years but never owned a Dean. I'm looking to get a sunburst MLX. Anyone out there played one before or possibly own one? Are they pretty solid? Well constructed? I did a search and didnt see much on these guitars other than that the nuts were kind of cheap. Any info would be cool. For the most part I have played Les Pauls and SGs for the last 10 years but was looking for another guitar and wanted it to be something different. Thks...
With that caddy cash I bought one of the new 400 series vipers from LTD and it SMOKES! This is hands down the best guitar I've ever owned. It plays like butter, it's ultra comfy and light, great balance, and the tone from those EMG's are crystal clear and amazingly powerful. If anyone's been thinking about trying LTD now is the time because the 400 series is the most bang for the buck value I've ever come across.

Also picked up an addenda add on to an existing one, bringing the total of US & International's up to 5 (3 Domestic only, 2 World wide).
Not as much fun as a gold record, but still something to hang on the wall.

Queensryche Fans...(NDC) that I know of.....

Dont know if this was posted...
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
QUEENSRYCHE FALL TOUR, PRESENTED BY VH1 CLASSIC, TO FEATURE PERFORMANCE OF LEGENDARY ALBUM 'OPERATION:MINDCRIME' IN ITS ENTIRETY ALONG WITH FULL, ENHANCED PRODUCTION INCLUDING LIVE ACTORS
A GREATEST-HITS SET WITH LIVE STRINGS ALSO PLANNED
BAND WILL ALSO DEBUT PORTION OF MUSIC FOR UPCOMING SEQUEL STUDIO ALBUM TENTATIVELY TITLED 'OPERATION:MINDCRIME II'
Art rock pioneers Queensryche will perform the classic album 'Operation:mindcrime' in its entirety on the upcoming fall 2004/winter 2005 tour, which is being presented by VH1 Classic. A "greatest hits" set will open each show, and at the end of the night there will be a preview of the upcoming Sanctuary Records release 'Operation:mindcrime II,' the working title of the long-awaited, eagerly desired sequel to the groundbreaking concept album. Audiences will be blown away by the Surround Sound audio setup on the tour.
Vocalist Geoff Tate, guitarist Michael Wilton, guitarist Mike Stone, bassist Eddie Jackson and drummer Scott Rockenfield will open each show with a "greatest hits" set ending with the smash "Silent Lucidity." Local orchestra string sections will perform with the band in select cities. Michael Igor Delassandra, formerly an official composer for the Vatican, will accompany Queensryche and perform on keyboards.
“The band is so excited to be performing 'Operation:mindcrime' in its entirety again after not having done this in 15 years," says Tate. "We are presenting it in a whole new way that finally does justice the intricacies of the story and the personalities of the characters.”
'Operation:mindcrime' will be recreated in full with enhanced production. Live actors will embody the fascinating characters of this chilling tale -- interacting both on stage and off. Vocalist Pamela Moore, who toured with Queensryche recently, will be back to provide the vocals of the album's pivotal character, "Sister Mary." New video footage will be incorporated as well. Queensryche also performed 'Operation:mindcrime' in its entirety in 1990-91, but this time around new and expanded video footage will be used. Fans who saw the show in 1990-91 will enjoy a more vivid experience this time.
One of the most exciting parts of each concert will certainly be the finale -- the preview of 'Operation:mindcrime II.' Fans have wanted a sequel ever since 'Operation:mindcrime' exploded and earned the band critical acclaim and commercial success. In particular, fans have always asked one burning question in relation to the 'Operation:mindcrime' plot: "Who killed Sister Mary?" The new album, scheduled for release in 2005, will address that question.

Cruised to my local music store to buy some little thigns (picks, strings, a new cable) and of course had to check out the inventory 1st. There was a cool Fender Strat that just didnt look like the others. It was a 24 fretter with a set neck joint, 2 Seymour Duncans, matching headstock and a decent flame top. MAde in Korea and under $500. I jammed with it quite a bit, fun axe. Best pic I could find of one.

I have a request. Dose any one have a copy of Flash web editor for a PC? if so drop me a PM. My friend is really big into fishing. He is a guide and would like to set up a really cool web page and I offer to do it if I could get the right program.
On that note, Fishing has become my new hobby. I never knew this but here in Nova Scotia we have a really big, small mouth bass population. To my suprize fishing is a hell'a lot of fun.

LEGENDARY MOTOWN ARTIST RICK JAMES PASSES AWAY
Rick James passed away this morning at 9:20 AM in his sleep of natural causes at his Los Angeles home, per his spokesperson. He was 56 years old. He is survived by his 3 children (Ty, Rick Jr., Tazman) and 2 grandchildren (Jasmine and Charisma).
Last month, he performed his hit "Fire & Desire" with Teena Marie at the BET Awards. He had finished an album and was preparing for its release next year. He was also in discussion with various studios for a movie based on his life.
Born in Buffalo, NY, known as the King of Punk Funk, and the bad boy of Motown, Rick James blended the hard core funk of his predecessors James Brown, Sly Stone and George Clinton with the Rock and Roll theatrics of the Rolling Stones and Kiss. Rick James was the quintessential "Super Freak," a term he coined in the 1980's with the multi-platinum song he wrote, arranged, produced and performed sharing that same title. The single catapulted the album Street Songs to #1 on the R&B charts and #3 on the pop charts. This mega-talented, multi-Grammy and American Music Award winner played at least five different instruments and had not only sold millions himself, he wrote and produced songs for Eddie Murphy, Mary Jane Girls, The Temptations, Teena Marie and Smokey Robinson, all selling millions as well. He licensed his work for sampling by artists such as Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu and MC Hammer, whose sample of "Super Freak" for the hit single "U Can't Touch This" made Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em the biggest selling rap album in history.
Details on the funeral will be announced shortly.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
question about the use of a capo
hey all,
I was sitting around the other day and i decided that i'd try to learn the song wonderwall by oasis. i looked up the tab on the internet, and it told me that i needed to use a capo on the 2nd fret. I did this, using my acoustic, and the song sounded fine, i actually surprised myself by how good it sounded. However, when i put my capo on the second fret of my icon ss and play the same song, it sounded horribly out of tune. why is this?
Thanx
Ryan

Come on in.....
Blackl Label Society, Slayer, Judas Priest Concert!!
Just got back from the loudest show I have ever seen in my life...good god, how do people stand this without earplugs?? Black Label Society went on at 6:20. I know a lot of people like Zakk's playing, but this band is more about attitude than music. Granted Zakk plays faster than greased lightning, but there's just no feel, no emotion. It's all just a blinding flash of notes, a raised fist and a "hell, yeah"...then a swig on a beer.
Slayer was up next and I mean to tell ya, the drums were deafening. I have never felt the bass drum in my chest like that at any show. I met Kerry King briefly at the winter Namm show. He's a really nice guy. I don't think I had ever even heard a Slayer tune at that point. That all changed tonight. Kerry and the other guitarist smoke their way up and down the fretboard. Not my cup of tea at all, but these guys are very, very good at what they do. They are tight at they come and they know their stuff.
Priest hit the stage at about 9:15 and you can sure tell they have been around for a long, long time. They have an air of confidence about them and they are in control at all times. I don't know how old Halford is, but he hasn't lost his touch after all these years and hit never missed a note tonight. I saw the original lineup nearly 30 years ago, opening for Johnny Winter, of all people. (I am not sure who arranged that)
The only bad part was the crowd. There were several "detainments" by security. Like I said, this is normally not my kind of show and definitely not my kind of crowd. I really felt out of place...I have no tatoos! Catch the show if they come to your town. If you are into metal (hans) you will have a great time!

Hello all, it's been a while since I've posted.
Wanted to share my new toy. I recently purchsed a Splawn 100 watt head. This is NOT a modded Marshall. This is a Splawn amp. He buys the boxes and chassis from local shops and craftsmen and totally builds the inerds from scratch. The boards and design are modeled after plexi Marshalls, but on steroids. Everyone is familiar with the term "this amp has balls". Let me tell you this, amp has elephantitis! SOOO dynamic. Even with lots of gain, you can hear every note. The 3 way footswitch is awesome. Clean, 2 OD channels, and a lead boost all with the tap of a footswitch. The lead boost channel has it's own volume knob so I can control the volume of my leads seperately. This amp is just so alive!
It also has an effects loop, which I don't know how to use. I know DUH!. I never had an amp with one so I never used one. What is the "send" and "return" for? What are the advantages? Please enlighten me.

Hey guys! Its been a while since I've been on as my computer is down so this is coming from work. Last week my best friend who is a co-worker and I went over to another co-workers house to jam some. My best bud Keith has a BC Rich Warlock and Rex owns an 85 LP custom,a Jackson Dinky and a Fender Strat. I took my ML Select that I bought from Kris(Bloodroot). This was the first time they had heard a Dean through an amp(Mesa-Boogie) and THEY WERE BLOWN AWAY!. They were amazed at the sustain and sound I was getting from my Korean import! They both had said they had heard & read that Dean built a good guitar and I am constantly bragging to them how great mine sound. One plug-in proved it! Rex confiscated my ML for the next 1/2 hour and liked it so much so that he said he is going to have buy a Dean(do hear me Dave @ B&T). This is just another testament to what a GREAT guitar Dean makes!

Here's my new build - it's got some killer tone!!!
by Mike9 on Tue Aug 10, 2004 2:40 pm
I put this together recently and finally got a chance to string it up today. The body is trans red quilt maple on ash - very nice, the neck is a killer birdseye/birdseye Warmoth number with a reverse headstock, jumbo frets & thier signature 10/16 compound radius. The pickguard is from Warmoth as well in a silver/blue/shell, the knobs are knurled black w/abalone caps & the bridge is USA Standard Strat (steel block) Ah - now we come to the good part - the pickups are Dimarzios - Fred in the bridge and PAF Joe in the neck running through a five way super switch. Can you say TONE???? If you like Satch - this is a killer pickup combo very vocal and articulate. The super switch gives you a Tele like sound in #2 position and Strat sound in #4 - (both are hum canceling) Did I mention this axe is a blast to play??? Looks great, sounds great, plays great - I might not show this to anyone for a minute it's that nice

I'm trying to hook up an amp rig and need some help. I know I'm missing the obvious, so here goes.
Two guitar half stacks...one is designated as main and will carry most of the load. The other is purely for a Leslie effect. How can I most closely approximate this without adding a ton of gear to my tone chain?
Ideally, I'd have three half stacks...one in the center for the main and the outer two for a true rotating Leslie effect. In time, but not just yet on this one.
Ideas? Thoughts? Bueller....Bueller?
Thanks, all.

Anyone else playing this? I've only been playing it a few hours now and it has literally scared the effin crap outta me. I'm talkin' jump out of your seat convulsions at times.
As an original DOOM lover, I'm really pleased with it so far. It's not so ground breaking like the original, but it's good for what it is.

Hardtail Select incoming....and I've behaved for so long.
I broke down and called Dave, now I have a new axe being shipped to NY. I was holding off with hopes of the 6 string Demonator, but that hope has faded due to lack of interest from other folks.
I was then debating between a quilted blue Vendetta 4.0, the blue HT Select or a black HT standard. I decided on the HT because I'd rather have a 22 fret guitar (have a BC Rich for the 24 fret thing) and I like the standard inlays more than the razor wire. Then it came down to the Black Standard or a Blue Select. The pics of the blue won me over. So, my Z will have a new friend from the same clear bluebursty flame family.
I really want one of the redwood topped Hardtails, but the funds arent there for a USA guitar right now. This looks like she's going to be a sweet axe!
LANCE ARMSTRONG TO BE STRIPPED OF TITLE!!!
by DeanMann on Thu Aug 12, 2004 10:28 pm
Today French officials announced that Lance Armstrong may loose his 6'th title. Officials said Thursday that Lance Armstrong tested positive for THREE (3) illegal "illegal substances". While these "substances" are not illegal in America, the French have found them to "give the American a competitive advantage". The substances in question are toothpaste, deodorant, and soap.
In a related story, the French will unveil their NEW flag in the openning ceremonies of the Olympics this Friday. The NEW flag is said to be solid white................

My new ML showed up
by tnvol on Fri Aug 13, 2004 9:45 am
I got my new ML on wednesday and I am pretty impressed. It fit like a glove from the moment I picked it up which was a pleasant surprise. I have played a couple Washburn Dimes and this ML blows them all away in terms of playability and comfort. The neck on this sucker is like a dream. It's pretty wide but doesnt feel like it at all. Really fast and slick. I love it. One of the things that surprised me most was the broad range of tones this thing has. The neck pickup is really creamy and chock full of tone and the bridge pickup just screams. Plus it just sustains forever. You can get killer metal tones as well as really thick bluesy sounds. I still might put an X2N in it to see if it tightens up the distortion a bit. The only complaint I have is that the string slot on the nut for the low E was cut kinda deep so there is a WICKED buzz that I cant get rid of no matter how I adjust the action. It buzzes enough to where you can tell with the amp cranked becayse the low E kinda craps out. . Thats being fixed right now. I put a small shim in the slot to see if that was the problem and it cleaned it up a lot so I have a guy fixing it for me. Overall I have to say that I am really happy with the guitar. I feel like I got a pro level axe for next to nothing cash wise. I would have sent the guitar back because of the buzzing if it wasnt such a killer guitar. its a keeper.
It's a Z! Updated. More pics!

So far so badass.
Thanks to Dave of course for hooking me.
SAW ALIEN VERSUS PREDATOR
I GOTTA SAY. I AM NOT A FAN OF CGI AT ALL. I REALLY DESPISE IT CAUSE IT LOOKS SO FAKE AND MOST DIRECTORS OVER USE IT . WITH THAT BEING SAID. THEY DID A PRETTY DESCENT JOB AT FOOLING YOUR EYE INTO NOT NOTICING IT TOO MUCH. THE MOVIE WAS PRETTY GOOD THOUGH. OVER ALL IT COULD HAVE HAD A LONGER FINALE AND ONLY A FEW PARTS DID I THINK THE SOUND WAS NOT APPROPRIATE. LIKE THE SUPENSE SOUNDS FOR EXAMPLE. IT IS MORE A PREDATOR MOVIE THAN AN ALIEN MOVIE. IF YOURE A FAN OF EITHER MOVIE THOUGH, GO SEE IT IF YOURE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO DO. IF NOT AT LEAST RENT I WHEN IT COMES OUT ON DVD.
How does this sound for a pickup combo?
ive been look for new pickups for my guitar. how does a Tone Zone and Super 2(both DiMarzio) sound to put in a 79 series Z??
Terrorism Effects Dizzy's Gear Setup..
Man, you don't realize the effects that terrorism has! I just went to buy a ENGL Cab to match my Powerball and have been told by the dealer (DereK at Rock Solid Amps), that he can't get them for the time being and hasn't been able too for a year. The problem is, the courier companies are refusing to carry anything magnetic on thier planes since 9/11. Only way to ship magnetic stuff is via the slow boat to China. Since he doesn't order enough stuff to effectively make a shipment by boat, and since he is the only USA dealer I know, I seemed to be screwed!
Anyone know of any ENGL dealers in the US other than Rock Solid? If so and they are local to you, can anyone find me a Standard 4x12 Slant Cab?
WAS TALKIN TO MY BUD YOUNGMLATTACK(MIKE) ON AIM LAST NIGHT. I CAN THANK HIM FOR TURNING ME ONTO THIS BEHRINGER V-AMP PRO I BOUGHT. THIS THING IS FUN AS HELL. ANYWAYS , WHILE YACKIN BOUT IT LAST NIGHT I THREW DOWN THIS TRACK TO SHOW HIM HOW BADASS IT REALLY SOUNDS. VERY DIFFICULT TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN ACTUAL MIC'D AMP TRACK WITH COMPRESSION AND GATE AND THAT OF THE V-AMP. CHECK THIS CLIP OUT. SOUNDS PRETTY GOOD . IM SO IMPRESSED WITH IT. ITS ALSO HOW IVE BEEN RECORDING THE DOA GUITAR LESSON WITH AS WELL. TELL ME WHAT YOU GUYS THINK. MAYBE YOULL BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE THE 80S RIFF AT THE BEGINNING AND THE OTHER TWO SWEET RYTHMS.

How to do a setup on a 1979 usa dean z explorer?
by droe on Sat Aug 14, 2004 1:41 pm
I am having problems setting up the dean z explorer. I adjust the neck and the bridge and i get buzz. I need to know where to measure the string height. I am using the gibson method but of course it's not working. The dean site should put a page for their guitar setup Like gibson and fender and prs. It would make it easier for their customers. Any help is welcomed.

the reviewer did some pickup-mods and discovered that under those pickup-covers are BC-Rich pickups !!!

Lefty 8er?
by Pesley on Mon Aug 16, 2004 8:55 am
Firstly, I got an Edge 5 Lefty almost 2 years ago (had it shipped to the UK before they were even available here!!) and it is one of the nicest instruments I've played. Better than the overpriced overhyped crap I've played in the past anyway!
Anyway, I'm looking to buy an 8-string, but leftys are few and far between. Any ideas, anyone?
TO DEAN: If you wanna quote me on a Lefty 8 I'd certainly be willing to hear from you...
Okay, guys i want to say to be careful right now. My kids sold some things on our favorite auction place and took a certified check as payment only to find out later that after my daughter ran it through her bank that it was totally worthless. Luckily, she was smart enough not to release the $2500 worth of equipment until the check had cleared. Thought you would all like to know- even the banks are taking a second look at certified checks for forgeries now, man what happen to being frigggin honest?
Sold my Mockingbird on Ebay for good $$
Here's a positive story. I just sold my BC Rich 1984 Mockingbird Supreme on EBay for a whopping $2150.00 It lasted a day and a half before it went with buy it now. The crazy thing is the buyer got a good deal, it was dead perfect and rare, and he's all stoked just waiting to receive it. Sometimes this whole guitar collecting/buying/selling actually works out.

Oh Boy - smashed my thumb at work today - Ouch!!!
by Mike9 on Mon Aug 16, 2004 3:53 pm
Yup - due to the assinine way some of the maintainence guys (we're an equal opportunity employer) stacked some long heavy shelving my right thumb took quite a whack today. spent my lunch hour in the ER getting X-ray'd, getting a hole burned through the nail - looks like Im going keep it and basically not having a fun time my first day back after vacation At least I didn't toss my breakfast - I'll be out the rest of the week with good pain management. I won't be holding a guitar pick for a few days, but I do get $200 for having to go to the ER + paid time off.
Honey, you parked the car where?
And you think you had a bad day!
Just got my Sweetwood Jumbo
Just got my new Dean today... I bought a new with a blem Dean Sweetwood Jumbo on eBay from Music City in Florida... Jody is the guy I did business with... Really nice guy... He gets the not so perfect guitars from Dean and sells them on ebay at a really good price... The one I bought has a ding on the lower left back... Small and hard to see if you're not looking for it... That little ding saved me almost a grand off suggested retail... I got it for $469 plus shipping.
Music City set the guitar up before they shipped it... The intonation is right on, and it has a medium to medium low action... I have the Dean 'Zen' already and the Sweetwood comes with the same kind of custom case... I wanted the Sweetwood Jumbo to compliment the Zen and it's mini-Jumbo size and sound... The sound from the jumbo is a lot different... The Sweetwood Jumbo booms out the notes with a clarity I hadn't expected... The base notes don't overwhelm the high notes, but enhance them... The Zen sound has a brilliance (great midrange), and the Sweetwood has an elegance (more base, sustain, and volume)... The Zen looks like art, the Sweetwood looks like tradition... With it's vintage style tuners, satin finish, and snow flake inlays.
The Sweetwood Jumbo has a Sitka Spruce top, Rosewood sides and back, Mahogany neck, and a Rosewood fretboard... The Rosewood fretboard layer goes to the top of the headstock, so the vintage tuners and Dean logo inlay are surrounded by Rosewood as well... All in all, a very nice guitar with a superior sound.

Problem with the tail piece on my Z
by NickM on Tue Aug 17, 2004 6:05 pm
Hey all,
I was putting new strings on, and I was streching my high E string, and then it broke at the tail piece. This is the 3rd time it's happen, and I'm sure its not from pulling too hard on them. Now that I look at the tail piece, theres a burr in it from the string. Is there a way I could get a new one under warranty or something?
thanks

When I first heard of this, I thought it was a cruel joke...but apparently not
Your thoughts?!?!
 - there is one thing that no one ever wants to hear!!! I was just finishing some practice time and was starting to put my guitar away so i could go make supper. This had to be the worse timing ever! Just as i was removing my guitar, my fiancee walked in the room and decided to kick on the ceiling fan switch as he was talking. As to what was worse i'm not sure, the noise of the blade hitting the strings or the look on both our faces, as he looked at me and in a questioning, like forgive man tone. Frozen- statue like for a minute i didn't even wanna look at the neck of my guitar. I was only thinking, my baby, I ain't even got her case YET! Much to my amazement, even with that horrible noise i only lost 2 strings and it didn't leave a mark on my new electric!Phew!!!!!!!!!! but, believe me that is one noise you don't wanna hear!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dean Email
by Pesley on Wed Aug 18, 2004 6:31 am
can someone give me an email to Dean info services that works, by any chance? The link on this site doesn't exist, apparently...
So you might know that I purchased hotrat's purple burst Hollywood Z. I'm used to Strat style tremolo systems, and the Acutone one on this guitar is giving me fits. Can anyone explain to me how the locking saddles work? If I crank the locks down, when the strings are slack, the intonation goes way sharp. If I loosen the locking screws all the way, the strings don't sit on the roller saddles and buzz. I can get the intonation close by just putting enough pressure on the strings, with the saddle locks, to get them on the rollers, but that means every time I change strings I'll have to adjust the locks to get the intonation right. I'm probably doing something wrong. Somebody give me a ticket for the clue bus, please. I want to like this guitar, but I'm not really thrilled with it right now.
Being a firm believer of the phrase "he who dies with the most toys wins", check it out. A 2004 Yamaha FJR1300 ABS!!!! Pick it up next week!! Actually, this is Mrs. Diz's bike. I opted for the 2005 (same bike in blue) and will take delivery of mine next spring!! Time to get rid of our 800 Intruders!!!! I've converted to the "other" side!! Man - what a machine this thing is. Anyone who knows them will appreciate what these bikes are!! VERY hard to even get one!! In fact - so hard that I have to fly to Montreal next week to pick it up from a dealer there - one of 3 left in Canada. If you don't pre-order these in the US, you won't be getting one!!!

Making news on the Hamer board.
Interesting way to go........
Letter to a Gibber dealer: Recently you received a letter from Gibson regarding significant changes in the company's web policy. Gibson's intent is to drive more customers into your store, thus making your store a destination location. It has always been Gibson's desire to have sales of their instruments be done on a personal level, not on a "point and click" shopping cart level. It is only when the end consumer interacts with your sales staff can the "Gibson story" be told, and an instrument be truly matched to that individual consumer's personal needs.
Pursuant to that goal, and effective immediately, all authorized Gibson & Epiphone dealers are expected to comply with the following:
Internet sales of all new Gibson Brand instruments and products, including Gibson USA, Gibson Montana, Gibson Memphis, Gibson OAI, Slingerland, Tobias, Gibson Custom/Historic, Epiphone, Valley Arts, Gibson Strings and Accessories are to cease immediately.
All authorized GMI dealers will be allowed to advertise that they are an "AUTHORIZED GIBSON DEALER" and link to the Gibson website, www.gibson.com.
Photos of "in-stock" instruments currently in dealer's inventory will not be allowed to be published on dealer's website.
Consumers are to be encouraged to actually visit the store to purchase instruments, or contact the store regarding a purchase via phone or email. Authorized GMI dealers will be allowed to email consumers photos of specific guitars in dealer's inventory.
Specific artwork and advertising templates for authorized dealers will be made available for dealer's use on their websites. These materials will be made available for download on Gibson's internet press site, www.gibson.com/press.
Advertising outside of dealer's immediate market area as specified in the Gibson Dealer Agreement will not be allowed. This includes (but not limited to) any printed materials such as catalogs, flyers, etc. If there is a question as to your specific market area, please contact XXXXXXXXXXX at Gibson, XXXXXXXXXXX, XXXX.
Sales of new Gibson brand instruments at guitar shows, music events, concerts, music festivals, etc. outside of dealer's approved market area are not allowed.
Ok some of this I get. Advertising out of your region, might undercut other dealers but WOW!! Places with Killer stuff like Willcutt's and Guitar Gallariea(SIC) wont be displaying the KILLER guitars they always seem to have. I'm not a Gibson core buyer this wont affect me other than not being able to look at some great looking Wood. Out of all my guitars I only have 2 real Gibsons,a '79 The Paul and an '89 Explorer 90, even though the majority of my guitars are Gibber based designs.
Some Things I've Noticed....
Hey guys, I noticed that a few of the features we have here are actually non-existant. In your profile edit page, theres a link to an "Avatar Gallery" that has no avatars. Also we have the ability to form "Usergroups" and there aren't any. I guess no one wants to form any which is fine so w/e, but why have an "Avatar Gallery" and go through all the trouble to write the code for one and then not have any avatars in it. I guess the webguys just haven't gotten around to it yet, oh well. I just thought I'd point that out lol Thats what happens when your bored and ya decide to go explore all the links in this place

Information needed if possible, possible relocation

There's a good chance that I may be relocating from NC to Philly in the next few weeks. The relocation would be job related, and I'm a little unsure about it all. Thanks for any help!

Hardtail Select showed up
The lovely brown truck - bringing of toys and happiness showed up yesterday (UPS truck that is.) I haven't really had a chance to give it a good checking out yet, but from initial playing - she's a killer axe. I haven't played a HArdtail since plucking around on one at Dean HQ last year. I really like the neck on this axe. It's not a V neck liek on by Z - but it's definitely a bit more beefy than the neck on the '79V I just scored. No complaints on the finish either. Dave at Bass and Treble did a great job setting her up and getting her to me in one piece. I haven't had a chance to plug her in - hopefully we'll be jamming again this week.
IT's rainging out - so no good pics, and my place is the dark dungeon - best I could do.
Ughhhh - I gotta light some freakin' Opera tomorrow
by Mike9 on Sat Aug 21, 2004 10:57 pm
Well - it's gonna be interesting - "The Four Tenors" (A: not very original and B: 4 guys with big egos) are doing some Opera at the college tomorrow and I have no DMX light board (Thank you UPS ), but I do have four analog channels. Looks like I'll have to bring everything that's patched up and turn off breakers in the rack till I get the look I want - then gel what's left to make them look young & tender. Sheesh - what a pain - oh well it's all overtime baby + an extra 1-1/2 hrs for a meal. Damn right I love my Union job!!!
I might get a Dean dealer 3 blocks from my house!
by Lon on Sun Aug 22, 2004 12:10 am
There's an amp repair/guitar shop in my little one horse town, and he's been talking to Dean about becoming a dealer. I have 2 Dealers within about 45 minutes of here, but they both leave a little to be desired. This guy wouldn't be able to carry the high end stuff, but at least he runs an honest shop and knows what the hell he's doing with a guitar. I bought my first Dean from him used (EVO 60) and I've sold a couple in his place on consignment. Fingers crossed it works out for him.

Now I know there are lots of "opinions", but I'd really like to hear from someone who has seen a guitar and played one after they were put on.
I spent the last two days running thru four tanks O' Gas in my Kawasaki. Giving the wife and kids rides. Giving more than a few folks who made thirty-thousand dollar mistakes buying Harleys' greif. Now don't start, I'm just kidding, I love Harleys, in fact I was the Q.A. coordinator at a Ductile Iron Foundry in Wisconsin that made parts for them, and I've been there many times. 3800 Juneau Ave in good Ole Milwaukee. It's just that I have a speed jones of the highest order. Choppers don't do 'it' for me. Trapper knows what I'm talking about. The throbbing primal chuff of a V//Twin is hella cool, but I like an inline four with a redline of 17,000 (and the ability to pull to it!). My body is too decreped to allow me to ride crotch rockets anymore, so I sold my '87 Suzuki GSXR 750 with a Franx Machine Works 907 big bore kit. But I still have this old Kaw drag bike. 1075cc Kit, Welded Falicon steel crank, cams, Mikuni flat slides, Fast By Gast Dyna ignition, extended Trac swingarm(12" over) and a bunch O' chrome. She's gotta 8 degree over/stock raked and lowered suspension, hardtail rear, 180 tire and Vance n Hines drag pipe. I painted it last month, but still need to buff it. Then I'll get ya some pics. If the pic upload will ever work...
BTW, I have an associates degree from MMI in motorcycle mechanics and engineering, and held some track road race records here in the midwest in the early 90's(club level). Trap, if ya see Steve Crevier, tell him I haven't forgotten that $20 he owes me from Elkhart Lake in 1996!
Anway, I'm off to a Baptist church to check out some chick singers. Not into religion, but I've heard these girls in the choir are really something special, and I wanna put some background vocals on a coupla new songs I'm working on. Kinda like on "Lower Side of Nowhere" by Slick Lilly, if you're familiar with it. A punch in the arm by some women of color with harmony will kick it over the top.
While riding, I was thinking that American Idol and Karoake have spoiled the pot for "real" musicans lately. Everyone thinks they can sing, and would rather take a crack at it themselves than pay to see someone else do it. Funnee how most of them can't...
You really gotta have something original to say these days to get the chance to say it. You can pay to go to GIT or Berklee, but you can never buy yerself some soul. No one sells em. But the price O' admission at the crossroads with the Devil will cost ya one! And if ya fake it, well then your just like Jonny Lang, and ya don't want THAT! I wonder if I'm an uncle yet? My brother and his wife are due any minute now. My oldest is going to college next year, and this will be my brothers' first. He gotta late start being a rockstar for too many years, though! Well, gotta go see what these girls can do!

I Fell In Love With My TC V All Over Again!!
by bbobb24 on Mon Aug 23, 2004 3:53 pm
Hi everyone,
I haven't posted here in a long time, and until a few days ago I hadn't played my Time Capsule V in a long time either.
Well I had one of those rare ocasions where my wife took the kids out, so I had the house all to myself. I dug out my V, plugged her into my Budda Verbmaster and cranked it up. I don't know why I stopped playing it, but luckily when I listed it on ebay a few months ago it didn't sell. It felt soo good to play it, I can't even describe it.
Needless to say it won't go over looked anymore!! Now all of the sudden I feel the urge for a TC Z.......
Thanks for reading

Nobody ever owned the DOA #32 Caddy?

How did these guys get it in Minnesota?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=41435&item=3743848464&rd=1
Ok Dean people, how do you get a grimy guitar back to a nice shiney finish? Is there an easy way to do it? I finally got the 1980 Caddy and I think the last time it was cleaned was somewhere around 1980. The finish is in good shape but is "grimy" for lack of a better word.
being a shiney new kinda guy, I've never had this problem before and have never seen a guitar that looks like it requires a good waxing!
Any suggestions on what to do myself or should i take it in to a pro for a good buff?

whats everyones opinions here on plastic/composite guitar bodies?
Hey guys, been awhile since I've been here. I'm starting to get the '78 ML into playing shape, and I'm noticing a major noise problem...especially when using a lot of gain.
With the volume rolled off, the noise is fairly quiet, but increases as the volume is increased....then drops off noticeably at full volume.
This guitar has a Kahler (I know, I know....I didn't do it), and I'm wondering if the bridge ground was wired. What do you guys think?? The wiring in the cavity looks ok otherwise...but I'm not noticing a wire heading towards the bridge.
Also, are the V stop piece and body-thru string retainers available?? I'd like to get it back to as close as stock as possible.
Behold, The Yamaha JEM!! UPDATED WITH KRAMER PIX!!!
ok, well not really, but anyhow...
i am probably going to scallop the frets of a Kramer soon, and i was wondering if the method i was going to use, would work or not, so, I pulled out the trusty Yamaha EG112 got some 68 grit, and a pencil, covered the frets with duct tape, and got to work!! After getting much of the material removed with the 68 grit, i switched to 100, then 220, and then 400, then i cleaned it up with some fretboard conditioner, and a toothbrush, and i let it sit for a half hour, and then sanded the grain that raised up, with some 400 grit, and cleaned and conditioned again.. i'll tell ya... it took abotu 2 hours for 4 frets... and i'm looking to do about 10 on the Kramer... Yikes!!!! haha well the only problem i ran into, is the cheap inlays on the yamaha not going all the way down.... but i really don't care too much about that... i think it came out pretty well frankly... and when you compare it to that other recent "scallop" job that bloyd posted..... i think i did pretty well...
now for pix
opinions anyone?

Price inquiry
by BennyD on Thu Aug 26, 2004 12:56 am
So whats the average price of a USA Hardtail, ML, and V?
Anybody know what the factory recommended settings are?
by jyd59 on Thu Aug 26, 2004 1:42 am
Hi All,
I'll soon be acquiring a TC ML and a V79 and I was wondering if anyone knew what the recommended settings were for action, neck relief, and PU height, and if they were different for the ML's and the V's. I've got 8 other guitars (acoustic & electric) and I do my own setups, so I like to use the recommended settings as a baseline check against what I think feels best for me.
I'm getting the TC ML as an investment, the V79 as a gigging axe. Both play great, but the ML is so damn nice (transparent blueburst flametop) it's only for home/recording. The V79 is what everybody should be using live; so playable& light, great tone, so rocking.
Dunno about you guys, but I'm the hell ALL over this one.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1287&item=3744247503&rd=1
Wow. Brand new.
And it's not an electric, it's an ELECTRONIC!
Damn.
Red too.
Gotsa free tunner, which probably accounts for at least $500 of the price.
Case extra.

Clean your Monitor from Inside
For those of us that use the computer extensively, keeping the monitor glass clean is almost a daily necessary routine.
Water, as well as such cleaning agents as Windex, are not strongly recommended by the manufacturers of the monitors. Due to a little research, I've finally come across this great new technology that will keep the monitor dirt-free from the inside. I find myself cleaning the monitor cheerfully on a daily basis. Click below and be sure and move your mouse around to clean fully.

A Sweet young lady I know from Chi town just scored a Spalted V from Flynn's. She told me this one from the Private Stash could be it's twin. Her's has nickel covered Dimarzios. She fell in Lust with it the day it hit the door. She said they got 2 Hardtails and 2 V's in the Spalted versions at the same time. I will post some Guitar porn later of her guitar. She says she might not be able to join in here. Did not say why but I wonder if the Miss Canada comments might have irked her a bit.
Should Dean make a TC baby series? Vote your input
Hey guyz remeber the baby, no i dont mean they baby thats currentlty out in sam ashes everywhere, i mean the baby Z, V, ML all made before 1985, i think it was 85, well do you think they should bring it back and maybe with more options like lets say optional EMGs or Floyd Rose Bridge, just for example. Do you think they should make them a Time Capsule Model if this was gonna happen. I sure as hell would. what do you guyz think.

Hurricane Frances
by BLOYD on Mon Aug 30, 2004 12:47 pm
Well, the damage has been extensive in my county and further south. Some of my friends have been displaced, their homes torn apart, some worse than others.
Most insurances here in Florida have a “Hurricane” clause…instead of the typical $500 deductible it is 10% of the homes actual cost…so do the numbers. If your home is worth $180 and your roof needs replaced ($3.5 to 4 grand+) then guess what…your screwed!
Anyway…to make matters worse it appears Hurricane Frances is now headed for our same area…it is already as strong as Charles. They project that it will either go over the state or turn North just as it hits the coast line…
National Weather Service:=========================================
FRANCES IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST NEAR 13 MPH ...20 KM/HR...AND THIS
GENERAL MOTION...WITH A SLIGHT INCREASE IN FORWARD SPEED...IS
EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT 24 HOURS.
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 120 MPH...195 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER
GUSTS. SOME INCREASE IN STRENGTH IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT
24 HOURS.

Professional series inquiry
by BennyD on Mon Aug 30, 2004 3:49 pm
How affordable are they? Do they still rock hard like the standard USA hardtail? How do they compare to the import selects? Does the rosewood fingerboard change the tone compared to the ebony?
My problem now is I own a Hamer Monaco Elite NAMM guitar and the thing is so awesome and pristine I'm afraid to even play it for fear of getting a scratch on it. I want a guitar I can play hard on and not have to worry about whether or not a speck of dust is going to scratch the finish on it.
I actually don't think the finishes on the professional series look all that bad. I like the dark cherry one.
Karin and I had our closing on our house last Thursday, and have managed to squeeze in most of our stuff. Now to find a proper home for all our stuff in the house. Will be getting our internet access on Friday (at work right now.)

by rochemy on Tue Aug 31, 2004 5:40 am
Oh hey fellas.
It's been awhile, but I thought I'd drop in and mention that I finally got my first Dean. (like a month and a half ago)
It's a caddy select in cherry sunburst. I love it. I've been playing alot lately, trying to get some blood, sweat and soul into it.
I don't have a gig-able rig to speak of, (not even a case for my dean) but I just got two jobs this week.
That means I'll soon build a real guitar rig.
I plan to get ahold of a SOVTEK Mig-50 head and a marshall 4x12 cab for amplification. I crave the simple control layout of this amp. I like the boost of a good Morley classic wah, and since the Mig-50 has no reverb, some kind of reverb pedal.
I also got my eye on a wonderful black Gibson SG standard at a local shoppe. I gotta get some money down on it before it sells!
This SG will make a great backup. My beautiful dean and this sexy SG... ..*gwah* hand me a towel.
My new project - '93 PRS Custom 24 - Final Update
by kevphol on Tue Aug 31, 2004 3:01 pm
No boos and hisses from the deanmaniac/peanut gallery please!
Just wanted tell you guys about my latest project - the "broken PRS" posted by Jack (Jaxx) a while back in the Trading Post forum. (Thanks Jack!) This is a 1993 PRS Custom 24 with a whale blue 10 top and MOP bird inlays.
Here's the rundown of issues: neck broken at the neck/body joint - had been put back on with 4 screws, one of which the head had broken off; various chips on front, back and edges - some going into the maple top with clean unstained maple showing; tarnished trem bridge with bent mounting screws. (BTW this should not be an indication of how Jaxx takes care of his guitars - his explanation said this involved a women and a bottle of Jack Daniels - Jaxx I hope the "other woman" was worth it LOL!) Neck, fretboard, headstock and tuners all in excellent condition.
What I've done so far: screw removed, holes filled and neck glued back in place - Titebond is great stuff. The neck was broken away from the heel piece that was set into the body, however the break was very clean and the neck sat right back in place with good surface area for gluing back onto the heel that was still in place, as well as surface area where the neck connected directly with the body on each side. It feels very solid and the neck angle looks good. I also buffed and polished the trem back to a nice shine and will be replacing the mounting screws when I get them in the next couple of days. I put new pup rings and screws on and will be doing touch up work on all of the chips and dings.
I've taken some pics along the way so I'll update this thread soon with before/after pics and a review after I get strings on and get it set up. One thing I can note already is that the accessibility to the upper frets is unbelievable - really like no other guitar I've ever played. I don't put any stock in Ed Roman's ramblings but I can understand now why he and others praise the pre-95 PRS models with this small neck heel.
OK, here's the body where you can see the neck slot and some of the dings on the front. What you are seeing in the neck slot is actually a 3/4 to 1 inch thick piece of wood that was the part of the neck set and glued into the body slot, and includes the black section you see at the bottom of the neck humbucker slot. As you can see the break was really clean and there is surface area on each side of the slot for the neck to be glued back in contact with the body. I've also already put new pup rings on at this point.

Here I have the neck glued in place and held with a spring clamp. The white spots just below the clamp are screw holes that I have filled where the neck had been screwed back on. The crack you see running down to the back route is just a finish crack. The second pic is the neck where the break occured.

These are from the front after the neck is back in position and dry.

Just need my trem mount screws and it will be ready to put back together and get set up. Everything else will just be cosmetic. I've already start some finish work on the back. I will post some more pics as I make progess.

Got myself one today, updated with all patches (Exept the stuff you gotta buy)
And, i gotta say, THE THING ROCKS!! I mean, WHOA! Its so flexible, i can get any tone i want out of it! I'll post some clips of my playing later on when i recieve my soundcard!
If anyone is thinking about getting one, do that, wont be regretted!
Well, I have some good news. The guitar I ordered back in January showed up yesterday. Robin delayed shipping it so they could take pictures for their website. It's an Avalon Flattop, but with a gloss TV Yellow finish, wrap around bridge and Rio Grande P-90 pickups. AFAIK, there are only two like this; although, it's brother is a beautiful gloss natural. Yeah, the P-90s are noisy, but they are mean. It's a raw blues machine.
Yup, I'm old enough to remember some of these comments my Dad made.
Some Comments Made by People in 1957
1. "I'll tell you one thing, if things keep

Zoom 505

I got a Zoom 505 effects box from a guy a while back that I have never used until now. Does anyone know where I can get a manual for it? I downloaded a manual from the Zoom site but it pretty much only talks about the features, not how to program it. Anyone know where I might be able to find one? I have never really used any effects except a crybaby.
