Help IDing a Dean
by Lon on Sat Jan 01, 2005 6:58 pm
Hey guys, a friend from the Fender site just picked up an older ML and was asking he for help identifying it. The serial number is throwing me off a little. It's from at least the early 90s he's sure because he's been trying tobuy ot from a friend for at least that long. Here's his post from the Fender forum. Thanks in advance.
"Ok, thanks Lon. I just picked it up, here are the details. I think from looking at pictures of other Deans that this is a "Baby ML" smaller body style. It has the small fork headstock, I think that the Kahler is factory installed as the cavity is finished inside, it has a white binding around the body and the serial number is 418859. The fret board is 24 fret and I belive ebony or really really dark rosewood and has big block pearl inlays. Shes a sweet player but does need a good set-up the intonation is a little off. I'm not to fond of the Bill Lawrence pups, I'll probably install some duncan invaders. All in all a cool axe!"
what should i go for?
by Mailman on Sat Jan 01, 2005 8:20 pm
a 79, DOA, or a Blueburst ML?
i personally love block inlays so that kinda eliminates the 79, but between the other two?
and arent bluebursts $700, as opposed to say the 6 the doa's go for...for just a bound headstock?
i think both are beautiful though.
hmmmm
or maybe i should just save up for a year and get a TC?
grrr, its so hard to make up mind!
help?
EArly b-day, later Xmas, engagement type present - non Dean
I've wanted one of these for a while some and I had quite a lovely surprise last night. Very cool guitar, I have to clean and oil the fret board, put on some new strings and give her a quick set up. Looking forward to making some noise with my new axe.
---- Any idea what it would cost to have 5 more cross inlays done to finish the neck up properly?

Gibson family photo
by Faust on Mon Jan 03, 2005 12:05 am
My Dean collection has increased lately largely due to the liquidation of my Gibsons. I am down to only one now... a 61 reissue SG. Most of them have gone to a good friend who is a Gibson whore. He sent me this pic of the family:
Back row from left: vintage 1964 SG, Tokai Korina 58 Exporer, 1957 Reissue Les Paul Custom (all mahogany), 1971 Les Paul Custom
Front row from left: Les Paul Elegant, Les Paul Classic flametop, 1960 Goldtop reissue.
I used to own the 1971 Custom, Les Paul Elegant and the 1960 Goldtop reissue.
They went to a good home... now he just needs a better camera!
Dean girl and young shredder!
Broke out the camera for some photos of my kids, so I thought I'd pose them with my V.

I saw these gibsons at guitar center for 500 bucks with so called worn finishes so I checked them out!!I was suprised to see such crappy action and horrible fretwork!!!and sloppy finish with a big ol fat neck that did not help!!I paid 400 bucks for my dean 79 series v and it plays 100 times better!!So hats off to Dean for putting out quality guitars at a affordable price!!And shame on gibson for ripping off americas young musicians who buy for the name!!!

New MLX a little fretbuzz
ok, kinda a newb question here, but I'm gonna ask anyway, just to confirm my suspicions. I have a brand new MLX, Braziliaburst, that is straight from the factory. all of my other guitars, have been setup when I got them, This one has not. from the fifth fret back on the low E, I am getting fret buzz. Now, that said, I love the action on this guitar, and don't want to screw it up. Since this fretbuzz is from the fifth fret to the first fret, I am assuming this is because the action is too close to the neck, correct? all I would need to do is adjust the bridge up a little to make this go away, right?
Difference between 79ML and Select ML?

What are the differences between those 2 guitars in terms of build quality? I've read they're both MIK, has the quality gone down with the new 79's or up vs how the Selects used to be?

New Years Eve Pics from Iraq
by tnvol on Tue Jan 04, 2005 9:49 pm
Here is what we did on New Years Eve. The Lifesavers were dollars and the Altoids were quarters. We didnt have chips so we used what we had. All in all a good time was had by everyone. Cramming 5 guys (a couple of them pretty hammered) into my little hootch was tough but we did it! We ended up having to carry the dude in the Packers jersey to his bed! He did a faceplant on the gravel outside my door and he was out like a light. Have a good one.
New Guy Saying Hello/Cool Story
What's up guys,
I've been a long time fan of Dean guitars, but now is my first time on the forum. I've been looking around and this looks like a great place. Lotta cool people with a lot of great information floating around. I unfortunatly don't own a Dean (money issues in past years), but with this new job and a very good start to the new year, I think things are gonna change in a big way. I've already checked into joining the DOA and I say with pride this is gonna be the start of my new collection of Dean guitars! (Notice the S in guitar(s), can't have just one ) I'm only 21 too, so I have time to build a nice collection just like some that I've been seeing on the forum.
Ok, cool story: Worked at a guitar store in Manhatten at my last job and right before I left, they started to carry Dean guitars. No one in the guitar dept knew anything about them, so since I knew they were coming in they asked me to identify and tag them for display. Had to school these dudes on some of the most hard rockin guitars out there, but now they know. Not the most interesting story I admit, but for the guitar dept manager to ask me (shipping dude) what guitar is which made me feel a lil good inside
Well, hope to hang with ya'll and have fun here for awhile. When I start the new job at the new guitar shop, I'll invite ya down and take ya drinkin afterwards, basically have a good ol' time. Lata folks.

The Dean European Custom Select V, handmade in the Czech republic, korina, natural finish prototype from hell...this mild looking axe is nothing short of brutal able to pull off all the sounds of the Z without any of the Z's downfalls, ie the fact it's a Z (lol). THIS is my A#1...though there ARE going to be modifications to this thing, like if you'll notice the creme pickup rings and the creme jackplate...those HAVE to go...icky icky...chrome (since we have so much trouble finding gold)....I think that will enhance it MUCH more.

Problem is, the stock integrated sound card on my PC sucks and cant handle the input of the guitarport. Crap. The sound is all choppy , and i know its not my speakers because i have great speakers, and i tried it on my parents Laptop with a much better soundcard, and it sounded great. sooo....i need a new soundcard. Customizing your geetar?
by pt76 on Wed Jan 05, 2005 10:41 pm
Hey I just thought I'd ask what some other people have done to their guitars to make them more unique/playable and personal? Right now I've got 2 Dean 79ML's on the way and I've just bought Bill Lawrence pickups to go in them (I'm not a fan of stock factory pickups, so out they go!!). Because I'm left handed my options are usually very limited so when I buy a guitar I usually mod it to make it more to my liking.
I've got 2 other guitars, here are the mods I've done to them:
1998 USA Standard Strat w/maple fretboard:
Scallopped frets
Dimarzio HS3 in bridge and neck, Duncan Classic stack in middle
Changed all electronics/wiring
Took out stock nut and put in a brass one...I've since replaced that one with graphite
Schaller locking tuners
Changing bridge pickup to Duncan JB once I get a new pickguard.
1984 Tokai lawsuit Strat w/maple fretboard:
Scallopped frets
3 Kinman single coil p/u's
Buzz Feiten tuning system
Changed all electronics/wiring
My Dean's will go through something similar...I'm going to do a BF tuning to them and I'll probably give them a mild fretboard scallopping and add the tallest fretwire I can find.
What have the rest of you done, if anything?

Nicest looking Dean to the non-musician?
What do you think is the most eye catching Dean? Not for musicians, but for people in the crowd.
The Hardtail, while being very nice guitars, probably wouldn't command that much attention from an audience.
Something like a Water V? Exotic Caddy?
Which guitar would make the audience go 'Look at that guitar!!!'.

Noise on dirty channel of new guitar set up-any suggestions?
O.K. I just got a new Alesis 3600 rackmount compressor/noise gate. I added this into a metal 6 space rack along with a BBE 362 Sonic Maximizer and a Furman Power Conditioner. The BBE is the only piece that isn't new, I have owned it for a few months. When I have clean sounds, I get a very little hum or hiss. However, when I hit the footwitch for my Randall stack, the dirty channel gets a really annoying hum and hiss/buzzing sound. I bypassed everything in my system and have emliminated any of the effects/wireless system/power conditioner. It is either the BBE or the Alesis. The BBE didn't buzz before, but now it does the aforementioned buzz/hiss thing all by itself in the chain (with the Alesis removed.) The Alesis also does the same thing when isolated as well. We tried to eliminate the ground with a cheater plug and that did not work. I ran all of the instrument cables away from power sources and that did not work. My buddy works in a studio and he thinks that it is because I am using cheap unbalanced instrument cables on the Alesis and the BBE. He suggests using the tip-type stereo plug 1/4" cables and that should get rid if it.
Do you guys have any suggestions???
just got home from the hospital earlier today. I had half of my thyroid gland removed yesterday. The left side had a big 'ole lump on it. Benign thank god. Now I have a big gash across my neck. It looks like someone slit my throat. Well, I guess someone did. Looks pretty nasty. The dodtor says it looks great. I'm doing great though. Hurts to swallow, no jokes please, and hurts to turn my head. But other than that I should be fine in a few days. So lots of R&R is on tap this weekend and the next week or so. Just this mourning when me and my sister went to my grandmother to support her, my family got a phonecall from my uncle. Turns out my 61 year old aunt died in the previous night....

Has anybody seen the ad for the Korg CR-4 featuring Dimebag? I have a copy of the February 2005 Guitar World with this ad on the back cover. It appears to my untrained eye that Dime is holding a '79 MLF retrofitted with his choice of pick-ups. Does anyone know if Dime did in fact own and play a '79 ML? I have been debating picking up one of these, and if they are good enough for Dime, they sure as hell are good enough for me.

How to get a custom Dean guitar ?
by sekler on Mon Jan 10, 2005 1:56 am
Hey guys !
I don't see any mention on the website where I can get any template or form that I could fill for an estimate.
I don't see much Dean customs out there, mostly endorsement stuff.
Is it possible ? or is it possible to decide only the kind of finish I'd want ?
I love Deans, but I'm not a big fan of string-through-body guitars.
I'm looking forward the Time Capsules, but customized with something like an original floyd and such features.

me and Bro are trying to find out where some nice guitars might have gone. what stores sell b-stock other than musiccity?
who sold those blue/purple damaged caddies on ebay a while back?
Hey I'm a guitarist with 5 years of experience.
It's time for me to start playing bass.
Anyone tried that edge series bass? The cheapest one.
I saw it one musicians friend for only $120.
I love the shape and the color. But I don't know about the
sound and the quality.
Any reviews?

This auction shows Sammy Hagar in action, and on one of the picks he's playing his red ML. Never seen a Dean guitar on a pick before.

Brad Whitford and Bad Cat Amp Video(NDC)

Cool sounds.
Bad things really do come in threes...
My father is in the hospital, he had a massive heart attack. The doctors mistreated him, and almost killed him. They gave him blood thinners to combat a blood clot, thinking he was having a stroke when he was in cardiac arrest. He severely needs quad bypass, but they cant operate until the blood thinning agents leave his system(3-4 days)... Starting in 1996, he had his aorta replaced, the arteries in his legs replaced, and had abdominal bypass surgey as well. To complicate the now/needed quad bypass, he has no suitable conduit veins becuz of these previous surgeries. his heart and kidneys are failing... It's really bad.
My wifes' father had a pacemaker implanted last week. Things were going very well, he had been passing out and having seizures off and on over the last year. Took him to several specialists, who postulated several possible remedies, and finally he got the pacemaker... We were beyond relieved. He is back in the hospital... He has no electro-pulses, or whatever in 2/3's of his heart... The tissue will not transmit them on the left side.
Now for the third bad thing... Well, I've mentioned before my health is horrible. My fault, it's the way I lead my life, no question. My blood pressure is skyrocketing. Off the charts. Not good.
Our Father's are 65 and 66 years old, I dont give a crap about me, I'm too ornery to die, but your thoughts for them are appreciated, muchly.

Distortion Pedal
by Stone on Wed Jan 12, 2005 9:51 pm
Although I'm not a big fan of distortion/overdrive pedals, I need to get a pedal that will give me a slight edge on my clean sound. My XXX is set up such that both my dirty channels are pretty dirty, and my clean channel is sparkling clean. We do a couple of songs that require that "in-between" sound. The clean channel on the XXX has no pre-amp control, and there's too much headroom on that channel to drive it hard enough to get that sound.
I'm thinking about buying a TS-9 with the Keeley mod. I have about $125-$150 to spend so getting a Klon or any other high priced boutique pedal is pretty much out of the question.
Any recommendations out there???
I just need a little edge....so please no "Metal Zone" recommendations.

Performer E
by Dan on Thu Jan 13, 2005 1:26 pm
I just received my new Performer E (transparent purple). I love the look and the playability. However, my only concern is that the 1st string (high E) seems to easily dump over the edge of the fret board with the slightest bend/pull towards the bottom of the fret board. Is this normal for this model? I purchased this guitar new from www.zzounds.com.

USA Pro series - anyone have one??
I'm considering a USA Pro series guitar for my next purchase and was wondering how those of you who own them like them.
The Hardtail and Caddy are on my list, but I'm leaning towards the Hardtail. I like the satin hardware and natural finishes - they seem very functional.
Some pics of Grand Cayman after Ivan's rath...
I know a lot of you Floridians were adversely affected by the recent rash of hurricanes and I sincerely hope you are all recovering from the aftermath.
I thought I would share with you some pictures from my condo in Grand Cayman. Ivan pretty much careened off of Grand Cayman hitting the small island with 150 mile an hour winds.
This is what is left of the resort. Needless to say, I'm not going to make it there this year... at least not until after September which is when they anticipate a portion will be reopened.
The picture of the dock used to have a gazebo and have three Dive boats moored to it!

Theology or Alienology?
by BLOYD on Thu Jan 13, 2005 7:10 pm
Some interesting thoughts on all the natural disasters lately. Here is something that seemed funny about 6 months ago...just before all the Hurricanes hit Florida this radio station here in Tampa had this lady on to do an interview about her organization/web site. She was spewing this stuff about our planetary orbital system and that this “Planet X” (which really does exist according to NASA) is coming into earths gravitational pull very soon….however it only happens once every 2000 years or so. http://xfacts.com/x2.htm
This swing of close proximity will cause natural disasters to start occurring rapidly on earth…the guys on the radio where making fun of her but just last week they called her back because all the things she forewarned of are now starting to happen.
The funny part? - How does she know these things…she says she receives communication from an alien race called the Zetas (Just check out the site and you’ll see what I mean) and they are trying to help prepare us for these disasters….or should I say “The End Game”. Her story seems in some areas intertwined with Christian theology.
http://www.zetatalk.com/
Anyway, not saying I believe any of it but it is interesting and ironic.
any luthiers or guitar builders here? have question
OK here's the deal. I have an old Jackson Kelly Standard with a Floyd Rose Trem. I want to do the Paul Gilbert thing and fill the top cavity in and put a hardtail Strat bridge in it's place. The rear-most recess is routed to a depth of 1/2" and the for-most part where the two pivot studs are is at 1/4". My thoughts are that i can use 1/4" hardwood such as oak, and fill the deepest recess with one piece and glue another piece ontop of that to finish the fill. how does this sound? or if it is totally wrong, how did Paul Gilbert go about doing it to his older Ibanez guitars?

My friend Craig finally posted a clip of him playing his new Splawn Quick Rod. Click to listen
About to leave for a weekend in Stratford! It'a an annual thing for us, our favourate band, Blue Rodeo, does a couple of shows in a very small venue usually used for Shakespere plays! The acoustics in this place are like nothing I've ever heard.
Fans from all across the country flock to this one, and yes, we'll have some US reps there too.
First show is tonight, and the second show tomorrow. All the fans from the online web site are getting together for a party tomorrow afternoon at the hotel in one of the ball rooms. A few suggested we should play a few tunes. So, Mrs. Diz and I are taking the gear and the PA system down!
With Patty on piano and synth, and me playing acoustic, were teaming up with 2 other guys - who weve never met, to do an "unplugged set" of the bands music. Were doing 14 or so tunes in front of about 150 people!!! We've told ANYONE that wants to join in to bring thier guit fiddles!
Not sure how this will all turn out - but wish me luck. I'm taking my camera - hopefully I can get an audience member to snap a few shots!
TASTES LIKE CHICKEN... WELL... MAYBE NOT! LOOK HARDER...
A popular Asian/Chinese restaurant bistro in Atlanta was closed Down this morning after authorities received a tip that the owner was accepting shipments of rats and mice from a vendor to prepare in his dishes. The owner and his wife were arrested early this morning and charges are not known at this time. After a full search of the kitchen, authorities found, packaged rats, mice, kittens, puppies and a large frozen hawk.
The restaurant is a popular gathering spot for local celebrities such as Whitney Houston and husband Bobby Brown, Jermaine Dupree, Janet Jackson, Usher, Monica, Puffy, TI, Ludacris, Lil Jon, Toni

Check out Blabbermouth.net There managers first interview since Dime's untimely death. He states the band had infact record some music that will suface. I've had a bad experience with UPS recently, but Dave packed it very well! Not a scratch! Can't wait to put a Dimebucker in there. Dave also shipped super fast! I ordered it on Monday morning and it got here Friday afternoon!! Thanks again Dave!
I'll post pics tomorrow!!
How much does an average ML weigh?
I just went to a guitar store and tried out a Dean TCML and noticed it was hell of a lot lighter than my Dime3. My Dime3 weighs in at almost 12 lbs. And I thought that was normal for the size guitar it was (I know it's a copy of a Dean ML, so I just assumed the Deans weighed about the same). But the TCML probably weighed probably about 5-6 lbs maybe. Is the ML I tried lighter than normal or is that about the average?
i have a Goya, which was a cheaper branch of martin guitars, that is probably getting close to about 20 years old. It was my moms guitar, and she gave it to me. For the most part, i learned on this guitar, and i didnt realize until after playing other acoustics how hard the strings were to push down. the strings were ancient, so i changed them, but even the new strings are very hard to push down. Is this a characteristic of some acoustics, or is this a problem that can be solved? i really want to get a new dean acoustic/electric, but i really dont have the money unless i sold the goya, but i really have no clue how much its worth, probly not enough to buy a new dean. at any rate, if you have any suggestions, please let me know
thanx,
ryan

I called the local mom and pop guitar shop that is lil over a mile away to ask if they had any Dunlop Gold/brass toned straplocks, "No but we can order them". I agree that's ok and order me a set, they tell me I can pick them up in 4-5 days. A week goes by and hear nothing and call. They tell me, "...we were waiting to make an order so shipping would be cheaper, call back in a week". Today a week later , still not in and no excuse given. It isn't like they aren't well stocked and they had Black ones in Peavey packaging. But why give me the runaround. As much as I hate it, it just makes sense to go to the Sam Smash or Guitarget for those kinda things. I should have done that in the first place. I thought I was doing the "right thing" by going to the "little guy".

Anyone ever heard of these guys?? Phantom Rocker & Slick
This band was around for a bit in the 80s. The guys are still kickin around, just not together. This is the album I have
This album had a tune called "Men Without Shame" that just KICKED @SS!!! I really want this album on CD. All I have is the ORIGINAL SCRATCHED PLASTIC.
Here is a shot I found on Earl Slicks Web page. This is Earl Slick (on the Gumby Guitar) Jamming with Kevin Russell. This is the FIRST time I have EVER seen this guitar in action.
Understand it was the 80s. But, has anyone ever seen this guitar EVER BEING PLAYED?? I just thought it was cool.
ANYONE WITH PHANTOM ROCKER & SLICK ON CD......PLEASE TELL ME. I'D LOVE to get a copy.
If you have never heard Men Without Shame, YOU NEED TO. IT REALLY KICKS.
Anyone going to NAMM in So Cal ?
If you have an extra pass you want to sell, hit me up. I can paypal or pay cash.

I would like to learn, where it is possible to find many pictures of one of Dime's guitar which was removed in clips Mouth For War and I'm Broken, black with red fiery spheres. As its details are necessary.
Beforehand thanks
I mean this guitar:
http://repfoto.com/repfoto/pantera/pantera9112006/html/9112006005.jpg.htm
Hi!
I'm on the lookout for a new amp, as my Triamp just isn't evil enough. I need something with a tight yet smooth and punchy sound. I hear that the powerball is the way to go, but those are quite expensive. The fireball costs about 4000 norwegian kroner (roughly 650$) less than the powerball. So I'm wondering: is there a difference in sound? I aware that the fireball has only got 2 channels, 60watts and less knobs than the powerball. But is the distortion as nice? Kinda like the relationship between marshall DSL and TSL? As far as I've experienced, the DSL has the clean and the lead just like the TSL, but the TSL has got some crunch channel as well.
How about the smaller ENGLs like the screamer and thunder heads? Anyone tried those? A Thunder head in Norway is actually quite cheap, about half the price of a Marshall DSL100
Thanks for any replies

1st Inaugural Party....ZZTop
by wstoll on Wed Jan 19, 2005 8:31 am
I scored a pass to the 1st Inaugural Party for the week. ZZtop and Ted Nugent were scheduled. Ted was sick and couldn't play...but ZZTop rocked out for over 2 hours. They played mostly old school
ZZTop........even Mexican Blackbird... .
They didn't play any Deans but did play the Fuzzy Gibsons. I was
in the front leaning against the stage. Here are some pics.
These are Gibsons, not Deans
I'm on the left with my Jam buddy on the right and ZZTop behind us.It is a little blurry, I'm sure the guy that snapped this for me had
at least as many "Adult Beverages" as I had .
The other Bass player was brought up at the end of the night. He was in one of the opening "Country" Bands. The Gov. of Texas also
sat in on drums. You can just see the kit to the left of Franks Kit.
The Gov. was not to bad on them skins
Guitar Center

Another negative for Guitar Center. I bought an SG from them through the "Instrument Exchange" auctions and I get this E-mail:
ok so im mad right now becasue yesterday some A$$ sold the case for your SG. now, dont worrie I have a brand new SKB case ready to shipp . ill send you a picture. however, it wont have the purple interior. whats good about getting a new case is its in perfict condtion. the other case i was selling had some damage but still was a dame good case. the mistakes my fellow sales guys made is just costing me extra because im covering the cost of the new case no extra charge to you. so let me know we are still cool. ALan
I am definitely not "cool". These guys sold the premium case with the purple interior to someone else and they expect me to be happy with a SKB piece of crap tupperware plastic case. I should have known better than to buy from them.... It's always something with these guys!
I got this e-mail after receiving a tracking number for the guitar...

Here's some pics of Deans I owned at one time or another. Less expensive stuff. The older members have seen these, but I though some of the new guys might like to see some of the older out of production models.
Czech bolt ons.
Dean Ninety Eight. Only one I ever saw or heard of.
Dean Z Signature bass
Tropical? Very sweet bass with active electronics
2004 Tevo. I need another one.

M. Schenker song on the site.....
by Wayne_S on Wed Jan 19, 2005 7:22 pm
Hey does anybody know what song is currently playing on the Schenker page here on the Dean site? It sounds like the singer from B.O.C. to me and kinda has that vibe to it also.
Your First Guitar or Bass
by Faust on Wed Jan 19, 2005 10:57 pm
My first guitar was a bass. It was a Hondo. I worked my @ss off in high school, mowing lawns and had to carry it home on my bicycle from a pawn shop. Over the next year I successfully learned all of Rush "Exit Stage Left" by painfully practicing and rewinding the tape in my room. I destroyed three copies of that tape in the process.... but it got me my chops.
For most of us, a Dean was something we always wanted but could not afford... this was the best I could do at the time and I still have it in my garage.
What was your first guitar or bass?
How did you get it?
What band made you play on it the most?
Got pics?
My first Dean on the way!
by Creepy on Wed Jan 19, 2005 11:30 pm
I've got my first Dean on the way. It's a White 79 Z, changing the bridge pup for a Duncan Distortion. Actually just got off the phone from ordering it. I've been playing for 15 years and never owned a Dean, I thought the 79 series would be a good place to start. Here's a pic of what's coming..... I'm pretty stoked!
Did you guys know that "I don't want anything for Christmas" does not mean the same thing as "You don't have to get me anything for Christmas"? It went something like this: Me, "What do you want for Christmas?". Her, "I don't want anything for Christmas." Me thinking to myself, "All right! More guitars for me!" Anyway, long story short, I'm digging out of a deep hole with a small shovel.
SPLAWN Quick Rod arrives !!!
by Wayne_S on Thu Jan 20, 2005 4:20 am
First I must say the Splawn samples on his site are on the mark. The only difference I noticed right off was its brighter in person but it was quickly fix with some tone adjustment.
The amp was packed very very well
Now on to the tone compiled by a buddy and myself.
The sound just sheared my ears off. It cuts very Marshall like my friend says. The amp is LOUD !! The more you turn it up better it gets. I found it a little tough getting control cause its so on to your pick attack and touch. You better play clean or your wasting your time. It will keep you honest and thats what I like, no room for half a$$ing it
After various guitars we tried the half power switch. To our surprise we liked it much better. I think the tone evens out bit more and seems to have a improved solid feel. Full power seems to be bit cluttered, like too much going on at the same time in them tubes. The amp is very dynamic and its going take some practice getting used to what a real amp does. Feedback is full and saturated, harmonics dont take the effort they used to. Low end register chords growl and very gusty while mid neck chords has a nice rip or tearing effect to them. Lead notes pop like it were in clean channel mode. Rolling back the volume knob provided some real nice half drivin tones with little volume loss or thining. The clean channel is the best Ive ever hear ! Far better than my Mesa DR. You've done a great job there as well Mr Splawn !!
The only thing I wish it had was a effects loop bypass on the footpedal. I really think thats a useful feature for lots of guys out there. I'll just pull effects out of the loop with my GCX loop switcher.
My buddy is convinced as myself. The amp nails VH & Lynch style but still maintains the Marshall vibe. Its also very well at home with Zepplin & ACDC classics just adjust to suit or roll back on the volume knob. The Splawn QR is simply beautiful and Im very proud to wear the Splawn badge when I go to battle
MP3's too follow once I get little better handle on it

Well, looky here!
Really diggin' that 2-tone. Cannot wait to see real photos.
What's up all,
I'm sure you noticed the new Dime models on the Dean site. I think they all look awsome. The Razorback is definatly a step out there for Dean I think. That's a very readical design, but I think it looks very cool. The new finishes on em look awsome too. Thanks Dean for a great new guitar for us. It looks awsome and I'm sure it'll do Dime proud.

NAMM talk in the Bar ?
by Bernt on Thu Jan 20, 2005 10:04 pm
anyone ?
Ok, I have a friend (who lives some distance from me) and he bought a Warlock with a floyde rose system on it, he said it went out of tune alot. Is this possible? I thought that the floyde rose was supposed to keep the strings intune while you can bend the strings with the wammy bar all you want?
Also - I would like to know the up's and down's of the floyde rose system. I was thinking about buying the Dime-o-Flame, 200$ to go
Hey guys. I'm already looking for my next Dean..maybe an EVO. What's the quality of the czech made guitars compared to the U.S.A made guitars. I'm pretty pro U.S.A for guitars but my wallet can't take it. Any info?

are pez biodegradible? or are they only water soluable?
What were they thinking?
by Faust on Fri Jan 21, 2005 8:40 am
I see really crazy messed up stuff on ebay all the time... what is worse is when the whacky looking stuff is original! This neck joint on a '67 SG is horrendous!
Let's start a thread of the worst guitar designs and builds ever. I'll kick it off with this gem from Gibson....
This shows where PRS got their ideas from. I'm not sure which one is worse:
Terrible Accident
by Faust on Fri Jan 21, 2005 12:46 pm
Some things in life are tragic. I could barely lay eyes on this as
it made me shudder with questions of sorrow and leaving me asking ...WHY?....WHY?
The picture may be a bit unsettling for some, so DO NOT view this picture if you can not stomach a horrific accident scene. I think there are a few survivors however. It's enough to make one cry.

| Please note for future reference that our standard wait is around 4 weeks for most orders .In the past four to five months, many orders have even shipped earlier than two weeks.... just depending on when we make the next batch of pickups. Shannon moved here to California in November 03 to help out, and she is doing an outstanding job learning the business. We could call her the fastest pickup maker in the West! So....the extra long wait some of our customers experienced from our difficult move to California in the latter part of 2003 and the early part of 2004 is definitely long over!!!! |
Woman Speak....a helpful guide
by kevphol on Fri Jan 21, 2005 3:36 pm
Since there have been several post of late about understanding, or lack thereof, of women, I thought this litte guide might be helpful. READ AND LEARN!
WORDS WOMEN USE
FINE
This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to #$%@ up.
FIVE MINUTES
If she is getting dressed, this is half an hour. Five minutes is only
five minutes if you have just been given 5 more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.
NOTHING
This is the calm before the storm. This means "something," and you
should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with 'Nothing' usually end in "Fine"
GO AHEAD
This is a dare, not permission. Don't do it.
LOUD SIGH
This is not actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often
misunderstood by men. A "Loud Sigh" means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you over "Nothing"
SOFT SIGH
Again, not a word, but a non-verbal statement. "Soft Sighs" mean that she is content. Your best bet is to not move or breathe, and she will stay content.
THAT'S OKAY
This is one of the most dangerous statements that a woman can make to a man. "That's Okay" means that she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.
GO AHEAD
At some point in the near future, you are going to be in some mighty big trouble.
PLEASE DO
This is not a statement, it is an offer. A woman is giving you the
chance to come up with whatever excuse or reason you have for doing whatever it is that you have done. You have a fair chance with the truth, so be careful and you shouldn't get a "That's Okay"
THANKS
A woman is thanking you. Do not question it or faint. Just say you're welcome.
THANKS A LOT
This is much different from "Thanks." A woman will say, "Thanks A
Lot." when she is really ticked off at you. It signifies that you have
offended her in some callous way, and will be followed by he "Loud
Sigh." Be careful not to ask what is wrong after the "Loud Sigh," as she will only tell you "Nothing."
CD recommendations please
Hi. Can anyone recommend some good Kansas (and other Dean playing bands) that might of interest to a proud new Dean owner.
I've only heard 'Dust in the wind' by Kansas, would like to be educated on some more of their stuff.
I've got quite a lot of old ZZ Top, but not sure which albums were 'Dean' albums, if you get my meaning.
Any help appreciated,
Cheers,
Ally.

I emailed the seller that he's an icehole for selling a used guitar that retails new for $374 (and can be had for a lot less than that) at a starting bid of $399 because it's the same brand and shape as Dimebag. This crap makes me sick.
BRAVE DAVE'S NAMM PICS TONIGHT - I PROMISE !!!!!!
I don't even know where to begin to tell you all what happened this afternoon at the NAMM show. We just got back to our rooms and we have to leave for dinner in about 45 minutes. I don't have time to sort through all the pics and post anything. I will crop as many as I can tonight and post pictures of what was one of the most incredible moments I have ever witnessed. I will only tell you this much .....
Before Dime was killed he asked Dean to build a USA Rust Razorback for Zakk Wylde and Edde VanHalen. I knew nothing about this until today. I saw the guitar about 20 minutes after we arrived at the show. Zakk knew nothing about it. He was to be presented with the guitar at the House of Blues tonight. It didn't happen that way at all...thank God I came back to the booth when I did. That's all I am going to tell you at this point, but take a look at this picture and you can get an idea of the electricity that was in the air. Any of these guys look familiar?

Anyone notice that there are several guitars missing from the mainpage (look here : http://www.deanguitars.com/electrics.htm )
Is that a sign that those guitars are being discontinued, or that they are being "upgraded" and the new pages for those aren't ready yet????

I am working to help Thor and Todd The Viking put together a show along with the guys from Bad Karma. I have a club interested but he wants a rough idea of how many might show up. The club is about 10 miles from Wingate but not difficult to get to. It is a two sided club and the Big room is booked with 5 bands but we could easily bump the cover band already booked in the other room there. They serve food and such on that side too but I'm not sure about underage. Sorry Doc forgot to ask.

For Bloyd
For Bloyd
I liked this finish
This is Buddy Blaze. He gave the Dean From Hell to Dimebag after having the lightening bolts panted on it. He was hanging around the Dean booth all day and told quite a few cool stories.
This same guy was complaining about how bad his feet hurt not 5 minutes after this picture was taken... So not metal.
I love GWAR. They have the best live show ever.
Beefcake the Mighty from GWAR!

SNOW EMERGENCY INFO
by Bri54 on Sun Jan 23, 2005 5:59 am
Be very careful...
You should be on the lookout for this pair in case they appear in your area. They showed up offering to shovel snow from my driveway for $20. Not ten minutes into the job they were at my door complaining about being cold. They said they wanted to come in to my house and get warm for a while.
Well, three hours later, they ended up leaving without finishing the driveway. I didn't get anything done around the house because I was afraid to take my eyes off of them. I'm just glad my wife wasn't at home to see me taken in by this 'scam'. I'd never hear the end of it. Don't let this happen to you!
Fortunately, I took their picture before they left.
If these two appear on your doorstep, don't say you weren't warned!
Big Thanks To Dave & Everyone @ Dean
Just wanna say a big thank you to Dave for posting pics from NAMM for those of us who couldn't attend and everyone else that had anything to do with it this year. The Dean booth looked great, had a lot of awsome stuff and a great tribute to Dime. This is gonna be a great year for Deans as we can all see. Hope I can catch ya'll in the summer. Rock on!

Damned good thing it's dry - I cleaned the cars off with a push broom. Getting ready for our birthday party this afternoon. We postponed it last night because of the blizzard conditions.
On the menue is Buffalo chili, baked, rolled crescent roll dough filled with #1: smoked salmon, dill & vegetable cream cheese, #2: a spicy pepper pate & home made pesto, #3: spinach & feta cheese. We have some great salad on the way, some intense deserts and plenty of chilled Chardonnay. Life is good at 52 - how're things in your neighborhood?

Brazilian...
by clmazza7 on Sun Jan 23, 2005 10:22 pm
No… not of the female persuasion… I’ve always wondered what the hype was all about. Well… I had the opportunity to play a friends limited edition PRS Brazilian CU22 today with a Brazilian fret board. Incredible! Silky smooth with incredible red/black swirls. Big bucks though… I guess due to the endangered nature of the wood. I heard that PRS had stock piled some of this wood before it was endangered and now is doing limited runs. Can you even obtain it anymore?
Inquiring minds want to know! Has anyone tried any axe with a Brazilian fret board?
It sure would be nice to have this as an option on a Dean!

Brave Dave's NAMM coverage !!!!
I hate to further disappoint all of you, but I still won't be able to post any pics tonight. Two reasons, I left the power supply for my laptop at the hotel in Anaheim. Even if I had it, Janet was feeling pretty bad for the last 24 hours and I am sure she has strep throat. She needs my attention right now. There are plenty of NAMM pics already posted, so at least you can all see what was going on.
I am very anxious to get these pics posted and tell you all a couple of stories about the weekend. Thanks again for your patience.
For those of you who asked about the Zakk/Vinnie/etc. autographed posters, there was just no way to get them. It was an absolute madhouse. Janet got one for Dean Z's office, but that was about it.
Also, I didn't mean to start a huge argument on the other thread. I just didn't think character references were necessary at that point in time, that's all. We all have the right to express our opinions here on the forum, but we also have the responbility to know when to be discreet.
One more thing..... I have had several complaints about some of the avatars and pics being posted and the language being used. I don't own this place, I am just passing the info along. Let's all remember that this is not our forum. We are all guests here. After the NAMM show, there will me a lot more people checking out the site. I know this isn't a Nickelodeon website, but many of us have small kids and this forum shouldn't have to carry an R rating. They should see Dean guitars, not nekkid chicks. The last thing I want to see is people turned off by what they perceive as a juvenile internet forum. Most of us have been around a long time, so we should all use a little common sense. Here again, I am just passing the info along.
I plan to get a new power source tomorrow and get started with the coverage. Thanks again for your patience. In the meantime, check out all of the pics that have been posted.

Brave Dave

Vendetta vs. Hardtail vs. other guitars !?! (hard decision)
Hi guys!
I hope you can help me with my decision!? I want to buy a new guitar but I can't decide between the Dean Hardtail Select and the Dean Vendetta 4. They are both sooooo sweeet Wink!
I already own a ESP Eclipse with EMGs, a Ibanez Prestige with DiMarzio Pick Ups and a Gibson LP Custom. How does the Hardtail and the Vendetta sound like compared to my guitars?
How does both Deans compare to a ESP LTD 400 guitar or a Schecter C-1 Classic (sound, quality of hardware, finish, etc.)?
Which guitar has the thiner neck? I prefer medium necks like the ESP or a PRS. The neck of my Ibanez is a little bit to thin and the neck from my LP to fat Smile.
Is it right that the Dean Logo on the Hardtail is in abalone and the logo on the vendetta not?
I live in Germany (sorry for my bad english!) and the next Dean Dealer is about 400 Miles away from my home so I cant see/hear them bevore buying Sad.
Thank you for your help!
Greetings Soulsoffire
I'm new here and am thinking of buying an ML. I don't know if it's USA or not. It has a serial # of U0042. Doe's anyone know if this is USA or not? Thanks.
I rolled the dice...and lost HELP!
So I win a Randall RG75 on Ebay for 175 bucks shipped. It comes on Thursday but I'm not home and there's the UPS note indicating that they''ll deliver it again on Friday after 5pm. Well it's drill weekend and I have to leave on Friday before 5 but my wife will be home to catch them when they come by. It comes. I get home Sunday night after waiting ALL weekend to jam on this thing. After 15 minutes it starts cutting out on the hi-gain channel. The amp was a blem shipped directly from Randall. I knew it would not be cosmetically perfect. The only thing visually wrong with it is a small scuff on the tolex. But now it's f-ing cutting out! Seems like you can wiggle the cord in the input jack and it comes back. I hope its just some bad solder joints or a faulty jack.
I'm off work today and I was fully expecting to spend the day jamming but now I'm left pulling my crank! I took it to the repair shop rather than sending it back but I'm gonna let Randall know about it.
It sounded killer when it was working though.
Does anyone have any experience with this sort of problem? Answers? Help? Regrets?

Thusday: Traffic and Guitar Gods
My friends Rob, Mike, and I drove down to Anaheim on Thursday. What should have been a 5.5 hour drive turned out to be a close to 8 hour trip due to a few pit stops and heavy traffic on I5 in LA. Our plan was to check into the hotel and meet some of the Moser Custom Shop forum folks at the House of Blues in Hollywood to see the Iron Maidens perform. As we’re nearing LA a friend of mine from Brubaker guitars calls and asks for a ride to Loing Beach after NAMM tonight to deliver a bass to Rev Jones, Michael Scheneker’s bass player; Schenker, George Lynch, Frank Hannon, and Gilbey Clark were all playing a show in Long Beach that night. Since my friends and I were totally tired from the drive and since Long Beach is way closer to our hotel than Hollywood, we decide to check out the Schenker show.
So my friend Jeb from Brubaker shows up at the hotel later that night with Rev’s bass, a snow white custom Brubaker. We oogle it and leave for the show. Like a dumbass, I left my digital camera and camcorder back at the hotel because I figure we can’t bring them in the club for the show. WRONG! Every frickin person there has some sort of digital recording device. ARGH! As wer got to the show Frank Hannon was ending his set. Giblet Clark comes on. I can’t really say anything positive except that all the sound levels were good. His Krank amp was pure treble fuzz and his leads were kinda kranky. His drummer looked like Jack Black, so at least we had a few laughs. Celebrities in attendance at the show included Michael Angelo Batio, Dean Zelinsky, Jack Frost, the bassist from Great White and a few other familiar faces. Lynch hit the stage and was a major disappointment sound-quality wise. He played an old ass Telecaster with 1 single coil pickup and the headstock had a piece of white tape with ESP written on it covering up the Fender logo Come on now! That’s just plain LAME. He played through 2 old Marshall heads and a Mojave head with Organe, Hiwatt, and Marshall cabs. He was painfully loud and his tone was very clean. In fact, when he hit the heavy hammer ons it sounded like he was missing every other note. Many people near me made comments on this. He puts his heart and soul into his playing but the sound quality just wasn’t there. I could hardly hear the vocals either. After Lynch, Schenker hits the stage. Robin “The Nose” MacCauly was singing and I gotta say he sounded good. In fact his whole band sounded great but I don’t think Schenker was loud enough. He played well enough but he pretty much stood there in his classic crouch the whole time while his entire band upstaged him. Rev Jones is an ANIMAL on the bass. He plays entire lines with his strumming hand on the neck while his fretting hand just dangles. I can’t say enough good things about this guy. Before the show he covered his brand new bass in a mess of stickers. Why oh why oh why… We talked with him before the show a bit and he’s a really nice guy, just like when I met him at NAMM last year. Lynch’s singer sang the song Assault Attack (that was supposed to be Graham Bonnet’s song but he didn’t perform because he bowed out at the last minute).
To make a LONG story short, we got lost on the way back to the hotel and by the time we all crashed out it was 4am. And we still the rest of the weekend ahead of us.
Friday: Moser Custom Shop Party
My friends Mike and Rob walk to the NAMM show while I go to the airport and we’re off to Neal Moser’s house for the Moser Custom Shop party and jam. I have my Framus Cobra 1/2 stack in the car for the jam. When I get to Neal’s, he’s busy in his shop putting a few finishing touches on some brand new guitars. A few of Neal’s friends and customers were taking delivery of their new handmade instruments at the party. Ronz from Scotland was picking up a Thunderbird bass and Clammy (Exciter’s bassist) was picking up his Arachnid Ultra bass. I’ve seen work in progress pics of these instruments. Pictures do not do them justice. I didn’t get to play Ronz’s bass but Clammy’s is probably the nicest bass I have ever played. Everything on it is perfect. I can’t say enough good things about Neal and his work. Most of the recently built guitars were already at NAMM but a bunch of Bastard V import guitars were laying around the house. These play really really nice and look killer. Neal’s wife Earlleen made massive amounts of food and desserts, including cookies shaped like MCS guitars. After eating we had a jamm session in Neal’s backyard. We played some blues stuff then later moved onto some metal including a few Maiden, Metallica, and ACDC tunes. Ronz is a great showman, a killer bassist, and he has a really powerful voice. His drummer friend is equally as talented. Everyone who jammed could play really well, especially Kenny with the killer green GMW (thanks for letting me play it Kenny). Brian Hoffman (ex-Deicide) was at the party with his wife. They are 2 of the nicest most down to earth people I have ever met. Hell, everyone at the party was really nice. My wife and I left around 7pm because we were dead tired. I think Clammy put it best when he said “how cool is it that you can go to a party and get delivery of a custom guitar?” After the party my wife and I go to Baker’s Square for a late dinner. Mark Wood and a bunch of TSO guys and girls are there (including Alex Skolnick). I guess metalheads need their pecan pie and breadbowls too!
Saturday: NAMM
I had to leave right after the show so I knew I had a lot of pictures to take and videos to make. I felt like the walking dead because I hardly slept that night (damn cheap hotel pillows!) So here’s the rundown:
Hamer: I played a killer Korina V but not much else.
Peavey: Not much to see this year except the JSX heads in some cool coverings and the new Hartley Peavey Signature guitars with great quilted maple tops.
Bogner: Played the Uberschall again and bought a Bogner shirt. That Uber has some serious balls.
Guthrie Govan: Got some video of him jamming. This guy is insanely good.
Brubaker: More crazy spalted maple tops and necks with some great red/orange finishes. Great job as usual and Kevin Brubaker is a very nice guy.
Dean: Wow. They always come through at the show. The new Schenker Vs are fantastic. Hell, all of their guitars play sooo nicely. The new Dime Razorbacks are super duper kicks ass. The paintjobs and graphics are top notch. I hate Floyd’s but the ones on these guitars didn’t bother me a bit. All the USA guitars (V’s, ML’s, Hardtails) are so freakin nice. I want 12 of each. The Dimebag memorial display was great. Most of Dime’s Dean’s, new and old were on display along with his stage outfits, his concept drawings for the Razorbacks were nicely framed. It was a very positive tribute to the man and I think Dean did a great job on it. I kept coming back to the booth to play the Dime and USA Deans and and the end of the day I met Michael Schenker and got his autograph and some pics with him. He was just sitting there chatting with Dean Zelinsky and was very talkative and nice.
BC Rich: Well, they’re back on track. The handmade guitars were very well built and were all set up nicely. Tim Keyes from the custom shop is a very friendly and nice guy and we chatted a lot about the guitars. My favorites were the archop Bich’s but all of them, including the spalted maple top Warlock and red Stealth were killer. Some of the newer imports including the import archtop Bich’s played pretty nicely. And there was no fat idiot telling me I couldn’t play the guitars!
VHT: I saw the new Deliverance amp but didn’t have a chance to play it. Looks cool though!
ESP: They really need to redesign their booth or space out the signings. There’s a HUGE line to get in due to all the celebrity singings so nobody who isn’t in line can’t play the freakin guitars inside. Outside all the custom shop stuff is strapped to the walls so nobody can play that either. C’mon man…let us play the guitars already! The same crap happened last near. But I will say from what I could SEE (not TOUCH) the custom stuff looked really nice and the graphics were top notch.
Moser Custom Shop: Wow. I played every guitar multiple times. On display were 2 Evil Bitches, 2 Bastard Vs, Tracii Gun’s Black Widow V, Brian Hoffmann’s Beastmaster, the Spawn Prototype, the Phoenix 10 Prototype, Clammy’s Arachnid, a Genesis neck thru, a Genesis Templar, Michael Vangerov’s guitar, and a Blade Runner. The reaction of most people walking by the booth was “holy s#%t!”. The import BVi guitars got a favorable reaction and everyone loved the handmade stuff. I got to chat with Brian some more and played his Beastmaster. Even though the necks on most of the handmades there were pretty chunky they still played like a dream and had super low action. I can’t say enough good things about these guitars. I’m glad I ordered mine a while ago because now there’s a huge waiting list for the handmades.
Charvel/Jackson: Great stuff as usual. The USA Charvels are pretty basic but play very nicely. The USA custom Jacksons were killer. Great inlays and finishes. The archtop Solosit type guitar with the wood inlays was one of my favorites. I don’t know what else to say about these guitars except for they’re great!
Krank: I got Vinnie Paul’s and Jerry Cantrell’s autographs at the Krank booth. Vinnie was very cool and Jerry didn’t say much.
As usual the show was overwhelming and when you only have 1 day to see it all, it becomes even more daunting. I wanted to play more stuff and meet more people but in the end just focused on stuff that really interested me. I did meet Scott Ian, some guys from Death Angel, and a few others. I saw James Murphy, Glen Drover, Dave Mustaine, and others walking around but I didn’t have the energy to bother them. My friends Mike and Rob went to the Hilton lobby parties 2 nights in a row and pretty much met every famous musician in the world. Guys from Dimmu Borgir, Neal Schon, Twisted Sister, you name it, they met them. I drove home Saturday night and hit way too much fog on the Grapevine and Pacheco Pass. In conclusion, another great show and a really good but tiring time.
question about the Razorback Rust
by ninjasx on Mon Jan 24, 2005 7:57 pm
Looking through the photos, it appears that the retail razorback rust will have the tribute image on the headstock, unlike the prototype up on the wall which has Dime Stealth Razorback like the bumblebee/shard/stealth with a continuation of the style on the main body of the guitar, as nice as it is to have the tribute on there do you think it will be possible to get one the same as the prototype as it looks awsome like that
I thought you might enjoy this... especially the people that have several employees that report to them!
I experience this every time there's a snow storm and today was no exception.
Some Kind of Monster streets tomorrow. I'm seriously considering buying the DVD "sight unseen" but thought I'd stir the pot on opinions first. I would've seen it in theaters but it never screened down here (despite good reviews I'd seen) Any thoughts?
Sweetwood question

Hi everybody!!! So here is a question. What can you tell me about sweetwood DM guitar? I can't find any info on it. You see, it's really difficult to get stuff down here, so I want to know for sure. And there is only one dealer and they are in St. Petersburg. It's 18 hours by train from me. So my choise depends on your information. Thanx! You are great!
Yet another Dime guitar question
by tnvol on Tue Jan 25, 2005 1:53 am
I remember reading in Guitar World years ago that one of Dimes guitars was stolen from a gig and he was offering a reward for it. It was eventually returned by someone. Was that his DFH?
well, this is a guitar forum, but a part of playng guitar is having at least a few lyrics to go along with it, and this hasnt been touched on a lot. so, list some.

New Dean player, need some help...
Hey guys, I have been using fenders prs and gibsons and I bought a new korean flying V 79 off ebay and its the best guitar I have ever played, and I am hooked now. I want to get an american made V, but what are some good websites to order off of? What are some prices for these american made V's? And finally, ARe there any v's other than the new razorbacks that have a floyd built in? thanks guys, hope to hear from ya soon...
Rob
anyone use them for their Dean(s)??
i just bought a Forge-II Anvil case (no it's not ATA) for 50 bucks.. it was for a Yamaha DX-7 keyboard, but it's big enough to carry a few different guitars that i have.. (it's not wide enough for the ML, or V.. damn)
i am going to generically refoam it, so that i can carry a variety of guitars that i own..
anyway, should i be really worried about the ATA-spec?? it seems like it would be enough to use to fly to DOA with.. as checked luggage.. but, right on the little tag, it says that it's NOT-ATA..
is there anything that i should stencil on the outside of the case to prevent damage??
or anything that i should do to help prevent any damage to my guitar, during shipping??
thanks.
Are there any owners of the "Dean Pace " here?
to floyd or not to floyd...
Hello folks.
I'm (again) thinking about geting my hands on a 79 ML.
Initially I had decided to go for the MLF, despite having little experience using a whammy bar. I'm kind of concerned that the novelty of divebombing etc might wear off, but at the same time would like to experiment with a trem.
I suppose though if the trem is not floating I could remove the arm and therefore presume it would virtually be the same as a fixed bridge?
I'm also not sure if the floyd spoils the beauty of the ML just a bit.
Can anyone offer any words of advice for my ML dilemma.
Thanks,
Ally.
Know its not a dean....but
<---------------- know its not a dean but - its an excellent guitar, best one ive ever played- has a very dime sound to it - a ibanez destroyer original
Difference between 1979 and 1980 ML
I was looking to get the 79 RI ML but then have pursued getting the Dean FBD Dime Tribute guitar.
I though the Dime FBD guitar was a modded 79 but then I seen this picture from the namm show that states it's a 1980's model ML.
I can only assume the FBD Tribute guitar is based on.
Is there a big difference between the 1979 and 1980 ML's ?
Different neck ?
Body ?

Please Help This Newb, What Should I Buy?
This is my first post, but I have been lurking these forums for a couple months now and I am in a bit of a quandary so I finally registered today.
I was wondering if any of you guys can help me make a decision on which guitar(s) to purchase. Right now I own 2 electrics, a PRS Custom 24 and a Gibson SG 61’ Reissue. I swapped out the pickups in the PRS for Dimebag’s setup. But it’s now essential for me to have a Floyd Rose now. It’s killing me not having it, the PRS tremolo is nice and all, but I would like to do some dive bombs.. so I definitely could use a Floyd Rose.
Now to my question, I have 3 guitars in mind I would like to purchase. I could order a Dean from Hell from Music123 and sell my other 2 electrics and still be a bit in the hole. However, I would have an extremely amazing guitar, but be forced to play it since it is my only guitar.
Second, I am really into the Razorback Two-Tone and the Dime-O-Flame ML. I could sell the PRS and buy both of them, and with what I’m looking for hopefully come out pretty much even.
Or I could just buy one of the aforementioned two and sell the SG, and again come out pretty much even. So if I only buy one, I am so confused at which one I want the most.. the Razorback or Dime-O-Flame.
Can you guys please help me out on this one?
Thanks a bunch,
-Michael

Really Unique Effects
by rufus on Wed Jan 26, 2005 4:12 am
check out http://www.zvex.com/effects.html. this guy builds some really unique sounding effects. The probe wah is cool, it's a wah pedal with zero moving parts. Also a crazy distortion pedal called the machine. Theres video clips on the site so you can check out the sound of it. I'm sure its all very expensive stuff, considering its hand painted.
BRAVE DAVE'S NAMM PICS - PART ONE !!!!! (finally)
I really apologize for taking so long to post these pics. I just had my power supply FedExed back to me today. I have been very eager to share this experience with all of you. Many of the pics which I will post over the next few days have already been posted, but as you already know, I can't just post a pic...I have to tell a story. Sometimes I go on for my own amusement, but I think you will be glad I like to talk after reading all of this. This is some great stuff!! Okay, okay...here goes!!
THE DEAN FROM HELL... THE REAL STORY !!!
Unless you have been living in a cave for the last 15 years, this must be the single most recognizable guitar in the world of metal music. Ladies and Gentlemen.... Dimebag Darrell's Dean from Hell.
I have seen different versions of how Darrell came to own this guitar, but I got the real story from Buddy Blaze, pictured here with the Dean from Hell.
Much of what was published in Guitar World magazine was true, except for a few minor yet crucial details. Darrell did indeed win this guitar in a music store competition. The guitar was maroon at the time. His Dad had also bought him an ML. When Darrell wanted to buy his first car, he sold the ML. Sometime later, Buddy Blaze saw the guitar, recognized it as Darrell's guitar and just had to have it. He traded for it and had it customized with the lightning bolt paint job. Darrell wanted the guitar back, but Buddy just couldn't part with it. He did loan it to Darrell to play, but later accepted a job out of state, so the guitar was to go with him. Darrell asked if Buddy would have one done just like it. This was the point when Buddy's heart softened up a bit. He told Darrell it would take at least 4 months to get to it and why didn't he just hold on the to original until Buddy could get the replica done. Buddy already knew Darrell would never take the guitar back without paying for it. Buddy left the guitar with Darrell.... never intending to ask for it back. He had just given the guitar back to Darrell.
The guitar is a little worse for wear, but I don't know of any guitar on earth that has seen the action that this one has.
This was a big surprise to me. I knew the headstock had been broken off a few times, but Buddy told me to take a look at the back of the neck. WHOAAA!!!!! They added a bunch of wood to make sure the neck was strong enough to stay together. This is the Volute from Hell!! Looks like the volute on a Gibson Mastertone banjo!!
ZAKK ZAKK RAZORBACK !!!
I have had many moving and emotional experiences in my life....my wedding, the birth of my children, the loss of my grandparents as well as the recent loss of Janet's grandmother. I get a little choked up when I hear certain songs. Some of which remind me of a certain time or place in my life..others because of the song itself. I am sure you know what I mean. I met Darrell Abbott only once, but once was enough to understand what a genuine person he was. What you are about to see is proof of how much he loved his friends. Before he died, Darrell asked Dean Z to build a Razorback for his buddies, Zakk Wylde and Eddie Van Halen. When I got to the Dean booth on Friday, I saw Dean showing someone a Razorback with a familiar paint scheme. He told me that this was to be given to Zakk later that night.
Elliott holding Zakk's Razorback. I kid you not, you have to see this guitar in person to appreciate the detail. This one of the finest guitars I have ever seen.
This is a shot of the back of the headstock. If you can't make it out, it says "Custom Built 4 Zakk Wylde at the request of Dimebag".
Rita was very proud of this guitar and was showing it to CJ of Drowning Pool.
The next few pics tell a story all by themselves. I had been wandering around the show looking for celebs and stumbled upon Rick Derringer. He was just down the aisle. It was just chance that I headed back to the Dean booth when I did. I saw Zakk Wylde heading up the stairs and I knew what was about to happen. Rita had hunted Zakk down and brought him back to the Dean booth. I scurried up the stairs and managed to stand on a chair just a couple of seconds before they opened the case holding what I am sure is the most important guitar Zakk Wylde has ever owned...a gift from his departed friend.
This is Zakk as the case at the moment the case was opened.
Zakk is shown here reading the inscription on the headstock.
Out of respect, I didn't photograph Zakk for a moment or two. This was a very emotional moment for him and I didn't want the world to impose. He read the back of the headstock, kissed it and with tears rolling down his cheeks looked skyward, speaking a few silent words, sending a kiss to his friend.
Zakk then checked out his new Razorback and ran a few runs up and down the neck.
This picture is worth a million dollars. I felt honored to be there.
What I would like to know is how word got around so fast. How did these guys know what was going on?
Check this out...Michael Batio, Zakk Wylde, Vinnie Paul, Jerry Cantrell and Mark Tremonti....and I was privileged to be there.
As our own Joe (vanilla gorilla) said, "Everyone who mattered was there".
Zakk and the whole gang then descended the stairs to check out the Dime Wall. Zakk must not have seen some of the items. He and Rita spent a few minutes and looked at just about everything.
I don't know what prompted this - you would think that Zakk would want to be alone with his friends - but Dean Z brought out two tables and all of the guys, including all three remaining members of Damage Plan, spent nearly 2-1/2 hours signing autographs. Janet brought out a big stack of Dime's posters and they all signed them, paying tribute to their fallen friend.
Before they got started, Zakk held up this youthful pic of himself next to a glam shot of Dime and said, "This is the band that should have been!"
Mr. Anthrax soon arrived to join the festivities. Janet knew who Scott Ian was because she had seen him on VH!'s "I Love the 80's".
I held my camera as high as I could and I was surprised how good this one turned out!!!
I have many more pics to post (sorry, the commentary comes with the pics). I will post Part Two tomorrow night.
Just for the record...I was not getting friendly with Kerry. I had just lowered a big stack of posters over his head.
( he is smiling though, isn't he? )

Nut and tuning peg suggestions wanted
I love my '79 V, but I think it should probably stay in tune a little bit better. It's not bad, but it doesn't hold tune as well as my other guitars.
I've been told that a nut and/or tuning peg change would probably resolve any issues.
I'm looking for suggestions for brand names, types, etc.

HERE IS WHAT I KNOW.... SO THIS WILL ONLY TAKE A MINUTE LOL!
Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to give you all a heads up on what I have found out about the new models and some of the stuff that I was alittle confused about from the NAMM show last weekend. We all pretty much have seen the retail and MAP prices and know that they don't mean much. Please call your dealer of choice to get their selling prices on these great new items.
Jon at Dean has told me to expect at least a 120-180 day wait on any of the new import models. USA tribute Razorbacks are not going to be shipping untill the 4 quarter of this year. I know that is a long wait but we are just going to have to be patient. All the $499 retail price models are bolt on necks. Everything else has a set neck. The only 2 new import models that have cases included in the prices are the Dime FBD and Schenker Custom.
The bad part about all this is if you don't get inline for some of the new models, you may miss out on the first shipment so.... I, like I am sure most of the other dealers on the board, are taking deposits on these new models. Feel free to give us a call with any questions. Any of us will be glad to help.
Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section. I wanted everyone to get a chance to see it. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Bass & Treble Music
I am now a Performer DSE owner! (With requisite porn)
by kevphol on Wed Jan 26, 2005 5:12 pm
For months I've been considering getting rid of my Ovation thinbody and getting a "real" acoustic. I got more serious about my search over the past couple of months and played a slew of body styles and brands, only to be disappointed with most everything in an affordable price range. (A $2800 Taylor 614 and a $3800 Breedlove were the best sounding of everything I played.) I did narrow my selection to a jumbo or mini jumbo single cut body style, with my desires including tone, playability, projection and upper fret accessibility. I decided other "appointments" would be nice but not necessary.
Throughout this time I obviously considered Dean acoustics, but never had the opportunity to actually play and hear one. (If I had, this would be a much shorter story!) For some reason early on, I was somewhat skeptical of Dean acoustics. I guess I had some weird idea that manufacturers were either known for electrics or acoustics, but not both. Dave at B&T was very gracious and helpful in answering a ton of questions regarding the different woods, body sizes, etc. of the Dean models.
Anyway, I really liked the looks of some of the Dean acoustics and finally decided that since I had not been disappointed with ANY other Dean guitar, I would give a Dean acoustic a try - only decision now - what model? I had it narrowed it to either a Performer DSE or an Exotica RSE, when I found a good deal on a very lightly used Performer DSE and bit.
Well, it just arrived yesterday and I am really blown away! I don't want to get back into the Dean vs. Taylor debate, but this DSE sounds closer to the $2800 Taylor 614 than ANYTHING else I played. It has great tone and clarity with a good full range of bass and brightness. The 4 inch deep body projects very nicely even though it is a single cut design. The neck is just a pleasure to play with great action and unbelievable access to the upper frets (there are 23 and you can reach them all). Intonation is very good even when capoed. And to boot, this thing is just gorgeous to look at with a nice spruce top, abalone inlay everywhere, full binding and gold hardware! Once again, I am amazed and extremely pleased by Dean quality!

Here are a couple weapons I was able to aquire.

Here is a Mosque that is near where I live. Its pretty cool up close. There are colored lights on it and it looks cool at night. Hope you all enjoyed the pics. Ill post some more as I get them on my computer.
Hi.
How do I get an avatar to 'fit' properly.
I've tried using some pics from my desktop but all seem to be of too many pixels.
Is there any way I can reduce them or get ones from this site that will fit?
The only one that was the corrrect size was this one of the late, great Randy (RIP) that I found on the Dean site.
Thanks,
Ally.

I've been working with Dean CS for the past few weeks with a warranty repair. WOW! I don't think words can express just how awesome they are. I've never worked with a company that goes above and beyond the way they do. Incredible!
No autographed Dean NAMM pass on ebay this year
*sniff sniff*
Does this mean no fun awards at DOA either ?
Hi.
Found this on ebay UK.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33044&item=3778339556&rd=1#ebayphotohosting
Just curious, is this everything it claims to be? I note only one voulme and tone control?
And the jack's in an unusual place.
See what you think, I know nothing in terms of ML history so I'm keen to discover whether this is worth a second look or not.
Cheers,
Ally.
WARNING, WARNING, I've had SO much trouble getting an amp from there, the sales rep people never know what the hell is in the warehouse, they have so many stories. Jan 3rd, I called and was going to order a Warhead, they promised me one, then come to find out, the bank said they didn't even try contacting or authorizing the credit card. I called everyday for atleast 5 days straight, and after all that, they said my order was canceled, and all the ones coming in were spoken for, so i got jacked one deal, then since i didnt get that, i figured i'd get a warhead X2G (the green limited edition one), I call up and ask how many they have in stock, they say 5, so i order one, and mine was suppose to go out the 24th, 2 days later, I call to check on the order, there is none in the warehouse, and they were backordered, SOOO, I had my mom talk to a supervisor, and FINALLY, he said he'd give me a black X2 for the price of the green one (50 bucks less than the black one), with a 3-day select shipping, AFTER all that, it's supposedly on its way, but goddddddamn, I DO NOT RECOMMEND BUYING FROM THERE AGAIN, and if you do, talk to a supervisor, not some puny lil sales rep sitting back falling asleep when you're trying to get an amp to jam on, patience with them is thinner than thin, anyway thats my bad experience with musiciansfriend, and im sure im not the only one with ordering problems from there

How do you like the Floyd on your guitar? Is it necessary to upgrade or is the stock one adequate?
BRAVE DAVE'S NAMM COVERAGE - PART TWO !!!
MICHAEL SCHENKER !!!
This was a big thrill for me. I have been listening to Michael nearly 30 years. I was very pleased when I found out he was endorsing Dean guitars and even more excited when I was told he would be at the NAMM show.
Mr. Z and Michael showing one of Michael's new signature series Dean guitars.
Michael's very recognizable black-and-white paint scheme looks great on the website and even better in person. The USA model (center) is a true work of art.
Larry, Moe and Curly!
"Officer! Could you have this strange person step back and leave me alone??"
FAMOUS PEOPLE GALORE !!!
One of the best things about the NAMM show is seeing all of the big-name players walking around. I check a lot of the booths and not many of them had anyone scheduled that I recognized, so I cruised around and stumbled on all of these folks in about a 2-hour period.
I was pleased to find the Brian Bromberg was on hand again this year. Brian is literally a world-class bassist. He is in high demand in the studio and has taken James Brown's place as the hardest working musician in America.
I never really cared for NightRanger, but I found Brad Gillis in the middle of "Crazy Train" and he was tearing it up
This diminuitive young man is none other than Rick Derringer. He was playing at a booth just down the aisle. Rick and the Edgar Winter Group got me through high school.
This one's for me. JohnL and I went out to the atrium for a NAMM burger and who do you think we see. Pete Anderson playing with rockabilly artist Moot Davis. Pete is mostly known as Dwight Yoakam's lead guitarist
Paging Dave Navarro...Dave Navarro!!
Nikki Sixx of the incredible Crotley Mue !!!
Jeff and I pretty went our seperate way during most of the show. This being my third winter NAMM show, I stayed at the Dean booth most of the time. At one point I ran across Jeff and he said that Yingwee Valvestem had just walked by, so we tracked him down for a pic. He had obviously forgotten to button his shirt.
Craig Chaquico, formerly of Starship, has been an acoustic artist for several years. There were quite a few people in line to meet him. I just wanted a pic, so he obliged with a huge smile.
Billy Sheehan !
Joe Satriani has been a NAMM regular for some time. It's odd to happen upon one of your guitar heros.......and it's no big deal!
The Ernie Ball booth was done in a biker theme this year. There was a shack at the back where they had jam sessions. Bad part was nobody was allowed in. I missed Steve Lukather the last two years, but I finally caught up with him and hand a chance to talk to him for a minute or two. I told him I loved his work when he was with Toto.....I was only about 15 or 20 years late.
Also in the booth was Pat Travers. I took this shot for DeanMann.
If you don't know who this is, think The Tonight Show. This is Ed Shaunessy. He was the drummer for the Tonight Show Orchestra for many, many years.
Sitting next to Ed was Frank Banali of Quiet Riot...talk about two different worlds. Bassist Rudy Sarzo was in the dean booth with Mick designing his own signature bass.
I was about the leave on Saturday afternoon and I made one last stop by the Ernie Ball booth. I was fortunate to find Albert Lee, one of the finest country pickers around. This was almost too good to be true.
I saved the best for last. A couple of guys came into the booth and asked if we were interested in a guitar festival they promote every year in Louisiana. One of them was named Jeff Burton. I asked if he was James Burton's son. He said he was. I asked how his Dad was and he said, "He's right behind you...ask him yourself!" I just about freaked. If you don't know who James Burton is, then you should go back and take Guitar 101. He is one of countries most noted and influential guitar players of all time. He also spent most of the 60's and early 70's playing for Elvis.
That's all for this installment. I must take a moment to thank all of you for all of your compliments and encouragement regarding Part One. I am humbled by your kind words. Everthing I said there came straight from my heart. Most men deny their emotional side.....I revel in mine. I believe this what life is all about. I will continue to do my best to keep you all informed on the happenings at Dean Guitars.
Stay tuned for Part Three - The Dime Wall

Pick up questions
by StratRat on Thu Jan 27, 2005 12:46 pm
I bought my dean avalanche for 50 bucks and so i want to modify it a bit. I would like to take out the single coil pick ups and put in humbuckers. I Dont want to route the guitar and put in regular humbuckers. So I am looking at humbuckers that are designed to fit into single coil slots like Seymour Duncan Hot rails. Are there any other type of pick ups on the market that fit into single coil slots? I'm looking for the fattest possbile humbucking tone I could possibly get. Also, I want to put humbuckers in all 3 positions and I am not sure if I should use a neck or bridge pick up in the middle pick up position or if there is one designed for that position. I dont mean to sound so ignorant but normally I just play my guitars as they come and dont change anything on them.
I've had a dream.....
by Dug on Thu Jan 27, 2005 6:38 pm
Greetings all.....Dave,Joe, BLOOD and anybody else that I've forgotten to mention. I climb out of my coffin to mention a dream.
I had a dream about a Cadillac, (small wonder about that bit of info) anyway after I had the dream I started to write down everything about the Cadillac I dreamt about, and I will share it with you all as it still seems a good thing instead of ridiculous.
The body of the Cadillac and the neck was Hardrock maple instead of Mahogany as the body color was lighter amber. The top was a Quilted maple top that was BLOOD Red and had black binding as did the matching headstock. The neck was left Hardrock maple faced and had Black block inlays and black binding as well. All of the hardware was chrome or nickle plated and the pickups were also covered ( I hope in my Dream they were Pearly Gates) and the tuning pegs were also chrome but had Black buttons to tune with. Instead of a stop tailpiece the strings were fed through the body to increase sustain. (I thought about the neck being through the body also, instead of having a neck joint after I woke up as that would also increase sustain, but may not be practical)
So you have a light amber bodied and necked Cadillac with Black binding and Pickup bezels, volume knobs and black buttons and also black block inlays. All chrome hardware with a BLOOD red quilted top and headstock and the strings fed through the body.
After I woke up and started writing this all down, I thought any other colors...Purple, Blue or Green would have to have cream binding and an Ebony faced Neck, but still have the Hardrock maple construction.
When writing all this down I came up with the name.
It is a Dean Cadillac D-Ville of course the D stands for Dug
So if Elliot and Dean decides that it is a wonderful Idea and has to be put in production, great.....oh and a dream inspired Red one would be appreciated also

What do you mean you failed?
Pass this on to all your brilliant friends . .
I just did.
A man, his wife, and mother-in-law went on vacation to
the Holy Land. While they were there the mother-in-law
passed away. The undertaker told them, "You can have
her shipped home for $5,000, or you can bury her here
in the Holy Land for $150.00."
The man thought about it and told him he would just
have her shipped home.
The undertaker asked, "Why? Why would you spend $5,000
to ship your mother-in-law home, when it would be
wonderful to be buried here and spend only $150.00?"
The man said, "A man died here 2000 years ago, he was
buried here, and three days later he rose from the dead.
I just can't take that chance."

BRAVE DAVE'S NAMM COVERAGE - PART THREE !!!
Okay, I had to give this thread a title or you might have missed it. If you go the main page and click on the '"NAMM '05 Coverage" you will see all of the pics of the Dime Wall that I intended to post. Pete has done wonderful job on this and there's not really any point in spending the next 4-5 hours on Part Three...it's all right there and it's pretty self-explanatory. I don't really have anything to add. Pay close attention to the drawings that Darrell did on the Razorback design. He had it all planned out, didn't he?He even considered a Razorback V for "King" (Kerry of Slayer) What a guy! Thanks again for all of the encouragment and compliments. I will have the February newsletter ready on Tuesday. There you will find all of the pertinent info on DOA 4. See you then!!
Brave Dave
is this Don's blacked out custom V perhaps?
Did anyone else buy this? It has a pretty good sized article on Dime. It's also interesting how they had it planned as "A Tribute to Fallen Guitar Heroes" in November, And they were planning an article on Dime. It said that he was going to be the only living guitarist in the issue, until 12.08. It has his last interview...Good mag. Pick it up if you get a chance. Heart-wrenching words from Zakk and Kerry in their lesson articles.
p.s. I'm back, The internet was all screwed there for a bit.

Does anyone have one? How are they? Good sounds? Easy to use? Would you recommend them?
BMTN said I should start another thread about my stolen guitars, and I figure 2 of the Hamers are like frippin Ferraris so they'll pop up sometime. I believe in y'alls honor if they show up. Sorry, I have no pics of any of them. Here goes:
San Diego, April 22, 2004
1997 Hamer Korina Vector: Flying V shaped (in case you didn't know, the Vector is Hamers V), setneck, natural finish, gold hardware, white pickguard, #29 of 72, serial #747842
80s Hamer Vector KK: flame maple over mahogany body, mahogany setneck, trans red finish (worn through on top edge from forearm), chrome hardware, emg 81, chrome kahler pro w/ stainless steel rollers and 1 BLACK SADDLE (high E), serial #411299
80s Hamer Vector KK (beater): Stripped paint w/ remnants of yellow and silver paint in cavities, routed for Floyd but has flatmount Kahler, setneck, notch cut into tip of headstock like small dean but offset, no pickguard (holes remain), dark patches across face from finger oil. Signed by a couple of dudes from Godsmack. "Formula 400" emblem from a Pontiac Firebird on body face upper wing, serial # sanded off
1990s BC Rich USA Jr. V Standard: Black finish, throughneck, original Floyd Rose, chrome hardware (except for black locknut), sticker that says: "NO MONEY, NO JOB, NO CAR, BUT I'M IN A BAND,"2 green pearl opposing arrowhead inlays at 12th fret, reverse hockey stick headstock, large paint chip on treble side on the back of the neck, various small white scrapes. Inside the the trem cavity there is a small area with no black paint that says "Mark's V" under the clearcoat. Forgot serial #
80s Flying V copy: Actually a Hondo Revival model, but has Gibson logo on headstock. Black w/ white body binding, black flatmount Kahler non trem w/ gold saddles. Black hardware, no serial #
70s Ventura Bass Guitar: Jap copy of Gibson Ripper, maple body/neck, natural finish, setneck, chrome hardware/ pickups, Badass II bridge mounted on black plastic spacer plate, 4-WAY Gibson style Varitone thingy, no serial #
I was offering a reward of $500 for all 6, which I know is nothing compared to the worth of the guitars, but if you want me to I'll still gladly shell it out.
Thanks for bearing with me and I give you full authorization to mangle whoever you see with any/all of these guitars. Just tell the cops I said it was ok.

For my new Peformer DSE Acoustic. I posted here because of the higher traffic. (Pics and review here: http://www.deanguitars.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6200 )
I've seen this done both ways. On this guitar the neck heel is very low profile and I'm concerned about it getting in the way when playing upper frets. On the other hand I wonder if the heel cap position is secure enough. Suggestions?

Razorbacks are too much $$$$$$$$ for the average JOE
I want to know what people think of the price tags on the Razorbacks.
I am not trying to sound like a whiner but I do feel that these guitars should be enjoyed by more than just rich collectors who probably won't even play them in fear that they will scratch them.

Now I have 4 Deans
by StratRat on Sun Jan 30, 2005 12:06 am
I just bought a used Dean at a store called Music go round which buys and sels all types of used music equipment and guitars. BTW, I got a V. i never liked the shape of Vs or Zs or any other unusual shaped guitar but they seem to be easier for me to play.
Only bad thing about this guitar is that the pick up selector switch is broke off and one of the pots was loose and when I went to tighteb it the little nut on it broke into 3 pieces. Anyone have those parts and want to sellthem cheap??
Do the serial numbers on Deans give indication to when they were made. My new V is Korean made and I dont know how to tell when it was made from the serial; #. Please help if you can. i like to know when all my guitars are made.
I have a real situation here. I have my 79 ri, and I bought an EMG 81 for the bridge, and after desoldering a bunch of stuff thinking I am on the right track, I am lost and completely at sea. Altought I am not a newb to playing, I am to technical s#%t. I have someone who works on guitars in my town. I guess I just needed reassurance that i didnt %$#@! my guitar up hardcore. anyone else ever done this? I didnt cut any wires, and I have all the original pieces and wires hanging around. thanks, and sorry for the odd post...
I caught a kickass band tonight. They're called Funny Money. The dude from the forum that was in Kix should know who they are. The band consists of two members of Kix. Anyway, the guitar player is breaking out his axes before they start, and low and behold he breaks out a spalted maple V I about crapped myself. This thing was beautiful !!! The wing logo on the headstock was pearl type material. Zebra pickups. And it sounded awesome. Better than his PRS he played early on in the night. Thats the firt I've seen one in person.
www.funnymoneyband.com In a few days there should be pics on their site.
When dreams come true
by StratRat on Sun Jan 30, 2005 12:42 pm
Months and months ago, I had a dream that I bought a V shaped guitar with a sunburst finish on it and a pointy V shaped headstock. In my dream I never knew the brand. But the pots were damaged and I had to have it repaired. I didnt think of this until last night as I was polishing the guitar. Is that crazy or what ???

I am trying to get a dean white flying v custom from dean and am wondering if anyone has worked with dean's custom shop? How is the quality, service, etc. Also, if i get a floyd rose, will i need to get a hole in it sorta like the JEM or will they just be able to install it and it iwll bend upwards and downwards? I have no experiences with floyd roses or deans, cuz i have a strat and a gibson sg supreme. If anyone knows any of this info, lemme know please!

I was wondering if anyone knows when Dean will be shipping out these guitars.
? about lawsuits & dean Zs & Vs
Gibson has been cracking down on other companies using the explorer and V body shapes, including ESP, Jackson and smaller companies too like Agile. Alot of these companies didnt even use the gibson style headstocks on their explorers and V's. Is Dean at risk to get a cease and desist order or face a lawsuit regarding the V and Z body shapes.

Hey guys
I want to order a custom TC style ML.
I want it to basically look identicle to my Dime 3 Dimeslime.
I know there might be something like this in the future but I don't want to wait......(well the custom shop wait, but not the production wait.)
natural mahogany back, black binding dimeslime burst, schaller floyd, and so on. I want the biggest V headstock and the V shaped neck. Matching headstock with black Dean logo.
Just wondering what you guys have ordered, how long and general price, I'll most likely go through B&T just because Dave has really treated me well trying to hook me up with a DFH.
any ideas?
Thanks

Dean USA Exotic Hardtail spalted maple - numbers of them?
by fAessi on Mon Jan 31, 2005 7:11 pm
Hello together
I just have a simple and short question:
I bought a Dean USA Exotic Hardtail spalted maple and I'm wondering how many of these pieces have been built? Are they something like limited?
Thanks for the answer!
Bought a Line 6 Spider II 112 for recording.....
already on it's way, I've played a few, any advice on this amp?
I am thinking about getting a head for a four by twelve cabinet and was thinking
about selling my Mesa Boogie Nomad 45 and maybe getting a Mesa Boogie Triple
Rec-t-fier. But if anyone has any suggestions on other amps that are comparable
to Mesa Boogie for raw power let me know wether or not they are solid state or tube .
Amps that I've owned :
Marshall
Line 6 ( crap) Maybe the heads are better only good if u like a Sh*tload of presets
Mesa Boogie (the best so far)
All of these amps are 2X12 combos

i bought a dean usaxml pro in england in 1997. can anyone tell me anything of its origin (i think its at least partly foreign built). the main difference to a standard ml is its bolt on neck, and the jack is on the side, rather than the front. any ideas?

My Father passed away after a long fight with cancer Saturday Jan. 29th.
He was an ex Marine ,old school trucker and Crane operator, at 79 with the death of his wife just four months before, he never gave up , keeping his spirits and dignity . He felt he would beat it till the end.
He always supported me in everything, he always said never give up on anything that you love, its who you are.
He was the most hardcore MF I ever knew or will likely to.
Love ya Pop's

Cessation Of Life also has another big announcement to make. Cessation Of Life has gladly accepted an offer from Gary Kramer Guitars to debut some new guitars. Gary Kramer was the owner of the world famous Kramer Guitars.... you know, the guitars that Eddie Van Halen played. Gary Kramer Guitars is starting it up again and this time they are pushing the envelope with craftsmanship and quality. The guitar that is currently in the build process is rumored to be around $10,000. Yes, that's 4 zero's after that number one. I for one am excited to see a guitar that has cost that much money to build and am very pleased that Gary Kramer has asked me to debut such a a piece of artwork.
WHAT THE HECK ARE THEY TEACHING THESE KIDS THESE DAYS!!!
Ok, today at the shop a song came on the radio.
BACKGROUND...... There is a book called "Horns, Hogs, and NIXON Coming". It's about the "Game of the Century" between the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Texas Short horns which took place in 1969. There was a whole lot more involved in, and around that game than just a game. Which made it a very interesting story as well as a snapshot of the historical events of that time and day. The title is a take off of the line "Tin Soldiers and Nixon Coming, Four Dead In Ohio" in the song about Kent State. (weird, but our Basketball coach Stan Heaths' previous coaching job was at KENT STATE)
ANYWAY, this song came on and I told one of my employees that this was the song I was telling her about. The one the book took the line from. She asked me what the song was really about. I asked her if they discussed the Kent State Shooting in her American History Classes, to my total DISMAY..... SHE SAID "WHAT HAPENNED AT KENT STATE?" She went to High School in Arizona. But that shouldn't matter......
HOW IN THE HELL CAN A HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE NOT KNOW ABOUT KENT STATE?!?!?!?!?!
WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY TEACHING THESE KIDS TODAY???
I'm sorry but,...... NO I'M NOT SORRY. If your American History Class left out Kent State, then you deserve a REFUND!!!
Some of you high schoolers & receint grads.........DID THEY TEACH YOU ABOUT KENT STATE??? OR ARE WE NOW TO FORGET IT EVER HAPPENED???
