Recording songs to computer
by see you auntie on Sat Oct 01, 2005 6:21 pm
What do you guys use to record songs to your computer? I have a mic but I hate the background noise that always ends up on the file.

I know there is software out there that can also help modify songs. I like doing experimental music so something like that could be fun to play with.

Also, I know some people on here have had bass/drums added to their songs, I forget who added bass to one of mine awhile back but can anybody do something like that here?

All I do is play guitar, my songs are instrumental. Any ideas are appreciated.

Hell has officially frozen over...
by Faust on Sun Oct 02, 2005 1:13 am
Hi folks... it's me... the "milk carton" guy.

I said I would come back to the forum just as soon as hell froze over... and I am back. Wink Man I have not had so much fun here for a long time and I wanted to take a brief moment to thank all of my fellow crazies for making this place the best guitar forum on the internet.

I have been laughing non-stop for the last two days! Laughing

This has been so much fun... that just had to take a moment to say....

*grabs handkerchief and blots tears from eyes....*

I love you Dizzy.... yes... I know it sounds strange, but it is a man-man kind of love.... like that Plato dude... not that funny tasting kids modeling clay that is sold in stores in the little yellow cans... but you get what I'm saying... it's a groovy kind of thing baby... you know... like a nice hot bacon shower with jumper cables on your nipples... as free a spring breeze....

*wipes away tears.....*

I forgive you man.

And to all the other great people that keep this circus rolling....

Brave Dave- If that whole Leprechaun deal is a practical joke, it's the funniest one I have ever seen in my life!... Laughing ... and if it isn't... it's still one of the funniest pieces of irony and situational humor I have ever experienced. My belly still hurts from laughing so much!....

I love you man...

And Kip is kinda cute too... so don't feel bad about idolizing the guy.

And Ricco...

You are a godsend dude... Since you showed up this place is better than the Seinfeld show. I think I love you man.... I haven't known you for very long.... but I am feeling the love.

And to all the other contributors who make this hands-down the greatest guitar forum in history... I just want to say....

I love you man!

So my Tarot cards tell me I am going to DOA... but the magic 8-ball said "Probably Not"... so I threw it out of the car as I was crossing the I-5 bridge... so it could find a happy home next to the Ouija board that kept telling me repeatedly that I would have breast implants before the end of the year....

I only have one question for you guys....

Silicone or Soy?

Keep the bacon on the fryer and the little bastard gnomes locked up in the attic with grandma where they belong!

Your humble panty-slave....

Question for the super Star Wars geeks (yeah SDEH - u!)
by transblueZ on Sun Oct 02, 2005 6:37 am
So, I picked up the new Family Guy DVD Movie thing and also picked up the Star Wars Clone Wars volume I cartoon DVD. I never had a chance to catch it when it was on TV.

In the time line of things, this appears to be between Episode II and Episode III. Now, are the Clone Wars just the time the Republic was using the Clone Army they received at the end of Episode II? Or, is it the war on the Jedi after the clones received their new orders to elimiate the Jedi. Is it both, or am I not even close here?
New SODOM interview US tour/new DVD THRASH METAL
by spacebeer on Sun Oct 02, 2005 8:19 am
translated this from German for the thrash maniacs here!

Metalglory: Tom you are out on tour promoting your new DVD, 4 days, 4 gigs?

Tom: Well it’s not really a tour, the DVD should have been out by now. Unfortunately it has been delayed for the second time. It due now half October. At the gigs we can show a little bit of it though on a big screen with a beamer. All who have seen it seemed very positive about the trailer.

Metalglory: Has something funny been happened sofar so our readers will have something to laugh?

Tom: This tour? No nothing, yeah I had to take a half our s#%t before the gig because of the good food here!

Metalglory: In the hall or in the tourbus?

Tom: It’s prohibited in the tourbus, though……I did that too. Normally you can only piss in the tourbus but hell when I sat down it just came you know, what should I have done?

Metalglory: Is it still important for you guys to play live?

Tom: It’s still fun, but it’s also a job. Nobody likes to play for free, recording CD’s and playing live go hand in hand, the one is not possible without the other. Of course such long tours as in the past, Let me just say 8 weeks with Sepultura or something, are a thing of the past. It’s just not like that anymore, but we play as often as we can….

Metalglory: I read that in 2006 there will be a USA tour.

Tom: True, actually it’s the first time we can actually do a small tour over there. Six, seven shows on the East Coast, New York to Canada. We should have played there a long time ago but something always went wrong. Our first try to do a USA tour was actually in 1987. We already packed our bags when our manager called us and told us the tour would not take place for whatever reason. Now we tried to find a good promoter in the USA while there are many who don’t do a very good job. I don’t really feel like working with unprofessional promoters who only try to raise funds for themselves, the band should also make a little money from the gigs.

Metalglory: How does one find a good promoter overseas?

Tom: Just inquiring with other bands, I have spoken with the guys in DESTRUCTION and KREATOR and one hears with which promoters to work and not to work. Just look at our recent South America tour we did it with a guy named Eduardo, he was unknown without any references but he did a helluva job. Things like this go from mouth to mouth and other bands will now be inclined to work with a guy like that. If a promoter is unprofessional without a doubt you’ll hear it.

Metalglory: Please tell me something about the upcoming Lords of Depravity DVD, what can the fans expect?

Tom: First we have part 1, which has been divided over two discs which covers the complete history from 1982 to 1995 and also contains a recent concert film. Total playing time for this part is almost 5 hours. I don’t want to call names now but they way in which some bands deal with their history is not too stimulating to me. We on the other hand have something to say, we interviewed all ex-members, we have scanned thousands of old photo’s and digitalized tons of old videotapes. Every year in the history of SODOM now has 20 full minutes on the DVD.

Metalglory: That’s a evening filling program then? So you can get a case of beer, get a few friends and watch the movie?

Tom: Absolutely, though SODOM has to be of interest to you. The movie is set up so it is also interesting to non-SODOM fans so they can at leats say “wow, these guys did a good job”. One discovers the background how things started in the early eighties and stuff, or in general how the scene was back then simply because everybody tells their story. This is what makes the scene so great!

Metalglory: That must have been an insane job?

Tom: I think you can hardly imagine, we have shifted tons of old videotapes, catalogized and digitalized em all. Without Ronald (Matthes, Roax Films), who produced it all, it would never have happened. He did it for a relative small amount. With the money we got from the record company we would have been able to record just one show and a bonus interview. Initially the Wacken 2001 show and a small backstage interview were planned for the DVD, and that would have been basically it. But I said to them they should kiss my ass. When we have a medium like a DVD one should exploit all of it’s benefits. Ronald then said to me: “No worries Tom, we will make a SODOM DVD with everything attached, no matter what the record company pays!”. He believed in us and wanted to make it with us, now we have the final product, a DVD which other bands can just dream about, let me just say MOTORHEAD….

Metalglory: Have you seen the new MOTORHEAD DVD?

Tom: Yeah shure, but the history part is next to nothing, the concert is just like any other MOTORHEAD concert. Of course with better production and modern technology. I would love to see a history DVD from MOTORHEAD with rare material and outtakes for collectors, now that would be totally killer! I am glad we did take the DVD that far. Next year the part 2 DVD will come out it will focus on the history from 1995 to 2005 and will also include a tour documentary, which will show you all what it’s really like on tour.

Metalglory: Which tour?

Tom: We filmed the South America tour, but Ronald will also come with us on the North America tour in January. Of course we also want to film some backstage footage there. Everybody always say to us “Cool, you guys go on tour, that must be awesome” but let me tell you it’s NOT! I think it’s cool to give you a view of the real life on a tour. Touring is pretty demanding. Things happen you know, like in South America we had trouble with the crew one of them pulled out a gun and we had the police over and stuff like that. Of course we always hope nothing happens on tour, that would be the best for all of us haha!

Metalglory: “M-16” was a very strong album, it has been some time since though. Is the DVD the reason we haven’t heard anything new from you guys in a while?

Tom: NO man, we have been in the studio like 2 years ago but we were told to stop by the record company. I have no clue for what reason, but with record companies it’s most of the time a monetary reason.

Metalglory: So what’s up with the new material?

Tom: Everything is ready, like I told you we were in the studio but were told to stop, but last year we recorded the drums and guitar tracks. I am occupied now recording the vocals and the bass which is actually just done. I think the complete album will be mixed and mastered in the next 4 weeks, realease date is February or March next year.

Metalglory: SODOM is on SPV and the Onkel Tom stuff on Armageddon…..

Tom: No only the Onkel Tom DVD was on Armageddon. We recorded the Wacken show without any record deal. I don’t gave a %$#@! if only the material would be released. I would never do a Onkel Tom record with Armageddon but I am glad they took the DVD while the recording and editing was awesome it just had to come out. We also want to do a new Onkel Tom Album next year but we have no record deal at the moment. We have tons of killer new songs though and we will self produce the CD. Nowadays it’s better to have a completed product when going to the record companies, then it’s either “take it or leave it!”.

Metalglory: The SODOM line up has been stable now for 8 years, have you either found the perfect line up or does one just become milder with age?

Tom: Yeah true, one does become milder with age right… Well all line up changes in the past had pretty concrete grounds, nothing just happened randomly. You know when Chris Witchunter started cancelling shows we all had to cancel, it just doesn’t work without a drummer. But nowadays we get along togheter again, we don’t clash anymore. Between us everything has been cleared up.

Metalglory: Can you tell me what your favourite SODOM song is?

Tom: No I can’t, I can tell you what my favourite album is though, it has to be “Get What You Deserve”.

Metalglory: Since “Persecution Mania” you always had some german song on the records, but of late these have disappeared, any particular reason?

Tom: Not really, for a German song I have to have a killer idea otherwise I rather not do it. I find it more difficult to write German lyrics as opposed to English. I also think it’s more something for Onkel Tom. Of course I can do it with SODOM too, strange enough all out German songs have become classics. On the next album there will be no German songs BTW.

Metalglory: How do you see yourself, with Onkel Tom you focus on fun themes whereas with SODOM the focus is more on serious actual themes, is it hard to switch?

Tom: Oh well, actually SODOM is pretty funny too, I do all these stupid talking on stage don’t I? Of course our lyrics are more serious but don’t always take it for what it is, we are by far not as “evil” as we might appear. Many bands try to create an image but when you know them privately it’s only acting in the end. The music is very important though, it’s loud and brutal. It’s all Rock ‘n Roll, that is what we do and what we like of course this also goes for the other two members.

Metalglory: There used to be this trilogy SODOM, DESTRUCTION and KREATOR.

Tom: Yeah nowadays we’re the only ones left right?

Metalglory: Well something like that, but seriously do you still have contact with the other bands?

Tom: Shure, two weeks ago I was at the DESTRUCTION release party in the Zeche in Bochum. They invited me, we tru to see each other as much as possible. Same with KREATOR. We played a few shows with them this summer, no problems at all. If there will ever be a tour with all three bands again I don’t know, I’d be all in for it but it seems as Mille has a slightly different opinion.

Metalglory: Shame, that would certainly be the bomb for many thrash fans!

Tom: Yeah I know, but Mille is very succesfull on his own. He had Ektomorf and Hatesphere with him on the recent tour of course that attracts people too. But I would really like to do it again, because in the end we are the three German bands from way back.

Metalglory: Any recent CD’s that have your approval?

Tom: Not really, I did get a few promo’s, Hatesphere was one of them. That one was cool, but apart from that there’s very little new bands that can really excite me. At home I always play the old records again.

Metalglory: Are you more of a Bassplayer or a Vocalist?

Tom: More of a vocalist really, you know, I am not a classical bass player. I can play the bass of course, it has to be groovy. But a true bassist in the sense of the word? No I am not but that’s really no biggie. I am more of a singer/entertainer, in some cases the bass even obstructs me in that way. Many way that Tom without a bass is unthinkable but with Onkel Tom it just works.

Metalglory: You always have these killer looking basses, I used to have a poster in my room with you and your red Ibanez Destroyer bass posing in front of all these pyro’s.

Tom: I still have that one with me but only as a backup. I play a Fernandez now, that one is also pretty old though. I got it for a present in Japan back in 1992. back then it was usual that you got a guitar from some Japanese company after you had played. Nowadays I just play what sounds batter. I have 3 of these old Ibanez Destroyer basses, but of course they are all a little banged up. I should have them repaired and set up properly one of these days when I have some spare money. They were always a little special, Cronos played one, and RAVEN’s John Gallagher, both of them were a huge influence on me.

Metalglory: Ok this was it man, any last words?

Tom: Well, I hope you will all go out and buy the DVD, if you don’t like it I will personally refund your money!

Building a guitar (maybe)- need your help!

I think I want to try my hand at building a guitar. First off- I'm extremely unqualified for this, but fortunately I have a friend who's willing to help and he's qualified. So I want to start by reading as much info as possible while generating ideas for what I want this thing to look like. This'll help me decide if I want to go through with this.
Books, magazines etc- Any recommendations?
Parts, etc- Where to go? I know about Warmoth (and I know some people here really like their products). Any other places I can look?

Can a whammy pedal be used instead of a whammy bar? I have a stock "79" ML and would like to use this guitar but still get the divebombs and pull up effects.

I understand I could use an MLF but the idea of getting the sounds without the hassle and expense of replacing the guitar would be nice.

Allow me to start off by saying...
by X6StringerX on Mon Oct 03, 2005 6:19 pm
...this forum is truly under appreciated. Guys and girls, I don't think we understand what a valuable community we have here. I've read a few complaint threads over the last month and just shrugged it off, but it wasn't until recently that I realized how much better this forum is than ANY other forum out there. I posted a few comments on another board (no names mentioned) yesterday and the responses I got were extremely adolescent. The Dean forum, however, always manages to be helpful in a time of need. There is an overall sense of brotherhood here as well. Although I don't own any Deans, I still feel like I'm a part of the action. I've met a few guys here over the last year or so that I consider to be real friends. Although it's the internet, I know I could call one of these guys up for help if need be. In closing, I just want to say hats off to the Dean line of guitars, the Dean owners, and most of all, to you guys... my forum brothers and sisters.

This is it so far, tell me what you think, it has a long way to go yet.

Its gonna look like the Dean From Hell when its done, it will be the most bad ass Strat alive

Look at the Pickguard, its a beast!!!!

it will have new pickups in it, and eventually a floyd rose installed into the beast, Muhahaha

Hell yes!!!!!!! its time for an update(4/4/06), and yes it has been a very very long time, sorry. Well here is the guitar with lightning and with the airbrushing around the lightning, it wasnt easy to do, and cut me some slack this is the first guitar i have ever painted and it was done with a really cheap airbrush, please leave me some comments, and tell me if there is anything you think i should change before the clear coats go on, and i know its not that great but tell me what you think?

New update (5/4/06), it was far too cloudy so i dimmed down the Airbrushing and painted some more bolts!!!!!, it looks amazing, tell me what you think. The clear coats are going on soon Very Happy

I am a cheating biotch!

Yes... while I was away from the dean forum... another guitar caught my eye.

It is an old flame for me. Back in '99 after the Leprechaun pissed me off and I turned to Jason at Drumcityguitarland in my quest for Custom Jackson and BC Rich guitars, I ended up buying my custom shop 7 string Mockingbird... but there was an Ironbird that I really wanted... but could not afford at the time. I went to look for the Ironbird a few paydays later... and it was gone. I never forgot about the Ironbird... it was always "the one that got away"... or one of the "many that got away"... Laughing

Then it appeared on Ebay! Shocked The very same one! It is a one-of-a-kind single pickup Ironbird which is hand signed by one of my ultimate guitar heroes... Bernie Rico Sr. (R.I.P.).

This is by far the pointiest guitar I have owned yet... (ha.. wait 'till a Razorback comes my way! Wink )

After waiting six long years... she finally came home to me... my Ironbird.

Mahogany neck through construction with Ebony board, Abalone inlays, flame maple top... and matching headstock cap.

Seeing the signature really made me feel a strong sense of loss... I always wanted to meet Bernie Rico Sr... and he died early of a heart attack a few years ago... I was crushed.

Dimarzio D-sonic clip ready
by j.arledge on Mon Oct 03, 2005 10:45 pm
well i got it today and threw a clip together real quick. I first put the bar to the bridge . It was very very chuncky , thick, not really muddy but it was a bit too bassy . So i switched it and it gets a more mid oriented type sound that is more harmonically active . It is also louder . The pickup is pretty powerful and if you are doing the metal thing this pickup kicks nuts (5 pounds of nuts(thats alot of nuts!))

it is a very full thick rich distorted sound . Between this and my fred and norton i can cover a lot of sonic ground .

I'd recommed it .

If you'd like a clip just pm me with your e-mail .

the clip was recorded with a peavey xxl and 2x12 cab loaded with eminence texas heats . The guitar is an ibanez rgt42 that is in dropped d. Yes it is dropped d, it is just real chuncky

MXR stomp boxes DD-11 vs. M-151
by Anonymous on Tue Oct 04, 2005 8:30 am
Any of you tried both of these?
MXR DD-11 - Dime Distortion
MXR M-151 - Double Shot

I'm looking for a nasty rhythm distortion with a lot of crunch.
I love Dime's sound so I looked in to these... I dont even have them here for sale so I would have to buy one from the 'bay.

My point is, soundwise, are they the same?
Are they any good?
Does anyone have a soundclip?

Thanks!
Went to a Sam Ash this weekend...
by TuscaloosaDumpling on Tue Oct 04, 2005 11:47 am
Was up in CT with my fiance this past weekend and got bored so I stopped in a Sam Ash store. Never been in one. (Around here, it's all Mom and Pop stores.) I was fairly impressed. Decent selectiion and their staff were great. I had gone in to browse, but while playing an Ibanez SZ720FM (been dying to play one...love this guitar) through a Peavey XXX, I noticed the head was a little jacked up. The faceplate was slightly off-center, and the tolex was ripped up a bit. I asked a sales guy if it was a used head, and he said no, that it was damaged in shipping. Discussion ensued, and after 20 minutes of haggleing, they offered me the head for $600, and a XXL 4x12 cab for $235. Well I'm thinking it's a good deal, but after considering tax, shipping back home, plus buying their own warranty (since Peavey may not honor fixing the head, since the store shouldn't have accepted it...shipper damaged it.), My gut just told me to hold off. Hopefully I didn't pass up something great, but such is life.

He came down 75 bucks on the axe too, and I really considered that, but I need to thin the herd a bit before I get another one.

So, anyone interested in a cheap XXX, check out Sam Ash in New Haven...95 Amity Rd I believe.
Michael Schenker's OTHER Guitars
by Armitage on Tue Oct 04, 2005 1:13 pm

Ok, most everyone has seen Michael's new Dean Signature Models, and his Gibson Vs, with the inverted black/white (painted by Hamer) paint job, some with dots and some with blocks... what else is out there?

I've seen Burny models (cheap looking), Aria (real ugly), and ESP. The ESP is identical to the Gibsons (avail with and without blocks), but I don't know it they're Signature Models or Tributes...

Anyone know what's out there and what's "official?"

Family photo shoot.
by JammerML on Tue Oct 04, 2005 1:51 pm
Since Hurricane Ricco buried these, I figured I'd post them again.

The Missus Bass...a big Thanks to N-Turbo for stepping away from the auction on this one. This is an Edge Euro Custom Select. It is by far the nicest of the instruments in the house. The finish is beautiful, but difficult to catch on film. It plays perfectly, and is unique enough(I have never seen this model with the inlay, and finish of this one..) That the missus effectively has a one of a kind. The fretboard is Wenge, and gives a particular brightness and definition to the overall tone of this Bass. It is excellent for slap and pop.
Image

Image

This is my 79 MLF....no introduction needed I'm sure. The flame on this one is fairly nice, and it plays like it's frets are filed down to 1/10,000 of an inch of dead perfect...(sorry couldn't resist)

Image

Image

This is the MLX I own. It is loaded with EMG81/85's, I've done the voltage mod on this one, and I'm running those EMG's at 18 volts currently, debating about 27, we'll see about that first though. It is the low end offering, but I'd put it up against any guitar I've played for overall tonal characteristics. I loves my bolt on pointy!!!!!

Image

And here we have a non-Dean, but a keeper none the less. This is an Aria LP knockoff from the "Lawsuit Era". It is effectively a bolt on Les Paul. It has been dated at 1968, and plays better than most Real Les Pauls I've had the pleasure of playing. Very bluesy tone, and I would suggest anyone looking for a Les Paul take a chance on one of these. they show up on eBay from time to time, and usually at exceptionally good prices. If you do go after one, make sure to look for the ones that have the identical Gibson headstock. they are the good ones comparatively.

Image

Image

And last, and prolly least, if judging by amount of playing time, the Jammer. My first Dean, and for that it will always have a place on my wall, but it is by far the least impressive of my collection.....A refresh is in order me thinks.

Image

I may have nothing on Ian, but I am proud of my little collection.

ANTHRAX Alive 2
by spacebeer on Tue Oct 04, 2005 4:37 pm
Anybody here bought it? I think it's incredible! one of the best live albums in years!

I just read this review from MSN music though I have not written it it perfectly reflects my thought on the album!

The first thing that hits you about Alive 2 is how terrific it sounds. Opening with "Among the Living," Charlie Benante's drums and the sludgy, churning guitars of Scott Ian and Dan Spitz peel out of the speakers at 4,000 decibels. It's like they're trying to make up for a decade lost. And maybe they are. Alive 2 chronicles a June 3, 2005 show at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ, and features Anthrax's classic lineup reunited for its 20th anniversary. Along with Spitz, Ian, and Benante, that includes Frank Bello on bass and vocalist Joey Belladonna. After "Among the Living" the quintet rumbles through incredibly tight versions of "Caught in a Mosh" and the double-bass-heavy "A.I.R." Anthrax goes all the way back to 1984's Fistful of Metal -- pre-Belladonna -- for "Deathrider," and the dude-heavy crowd greets Persistence of Time's "In My World" with chants of "Joey! Joey! Joey!" The set closes with "Be All End All" and the Judge Dredd tribute "I Am the Law." Fans will note that despite being a solid live album from start to finish -- it a better recording than 2004's Music of Mass Destruction, and the Belladonna-era lineup seems to be getting a thrill out of playing again -- Alive 2 only includes half of a commemorative Dredd drawing. The other half's in the Alive 2 DVD, which expands the song lineup to 13 songs and includes behind-the-scenes footage. ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide

Which one do you grab?

Well, it was waiting for me when I got home from school today. Big thanks to Eddie at Carlino Guitars!!! It arrived in great condition, with only 2 noticable flaws from the factory...BUT WHO CARES? It plays great, sounds great, AWESOME action right out of the box, and it's frackin' beautiful. I've already played this thing at least 3 hours today, and looking forward to about 4 more tomorrow!

But before we get to the porn, a few questions:

1. What should I use to clean the fretboard/neck/body?
2. Does anyone know what strings it ships with from the factory?
3. Is it normal to be INSANELY attracted to an imanimate piece of wood? Very Happy

Now, for the porn:

Image
One of the 2 flaws...but who looks the neck plate anyway?

Image
Second flaw, minor finish crack between the pup and neck...OH WELL Laughing

It has a great warm sound on the neck pup, chords come through nice and clean as well. The bridge won't get much use till I get a distortion pedal, but for the 1 or 2 songs I played on it, it sounded great.

Home Recording
by DizzyDean on Thu Oct 06, 2005 3:12 pm
Ok all you home recorders...time to offer Diz some advice. I want to get a decent set up so I can record some stuff in my basement. Cost isn't a huge factor, I'm willing to spend what's required, but I want something easy to use that produces very high quality results.

So, you guys like Kris that make those great sounding tracks - how about some advice on recording software, mics, mixers and anything else I would need record a full band. I want to be able to record everything - keys, guitars, bass, drums, vocals and eventually have a decent quality recording of a song come out.

Also, how do you usually do it? Do you have the band play as a whole or do you usually record each person one at a time and mix it after.

Is there something that can do this easily, or am I biting of more than I can chew here? The band always plays at my house and I thought it would be nice to record it sometime. Also, because I dabble on each instrument, I thought it would be cool to lay down a track where I play everything.

I need something to do once the boat and bikes get put away!!!!! Laughing Laughing

First Blizzard of the Year - Now with Pics
by Rex Herring on Thu Oct 06, 2005 3:59 pm
Good old North Dakota weather. Five days ago it was 91 degrees. Woke up yesterday morning and had 3 feet of snow in the back yard two feet on the level in the street. 4 wheel drives were getting stuck. The trees still had their leaves on so the wet snow stuck and broke off branches and entire trees. No electricity from 6:30 a.m. until 11 p.m. last night. (no problem as I have camp stoves and lanterns) The temp stayed at 32 degrees all day so it wasn't to bad to go out and work.

I thought it would be a good day to practice guitar but, after blowing snow and shoveling for three hours, I can't lift my arms.....getting old!

Good thing is, my second day off from work, still haven't cleared the streets so no way to get there.

No real purpose to this, just had to complain. (still had it better than the hurricane areas)

I haven't had a chance to really sit down and get a good picture or play the guitar, but she is extremely beautiful and super light. I didn't realize how light until I grabbed my select and 79 to do this pic. You can also see just how much bigger the Series2 headstock is on the 79 vs the Series3 on the Czech and Select.
Lastly, is there a way to tell the year on the Czech models by serial number?

This was posted on another forum... it's an actual listing on Craigslist. I figured I'd share it with you guys.

Free To Good Home

So I have this cat.
Actually it's my girlfriend's cat.
Actually we have two, a small gray tabby named T**** that is a blast to
have around, and the "other one".
It's corpulent, bright orange and has medium length hair, so of course to
me it's name has only ever been Fat Bastard.
(I'm not kidding, this cat is obese enough that it's gut leaves it's own
trail in the middle of it's footprints after I vacuum the carpet,
uniformly triangulating the food dish, the litter box, and the hammock it
has steamrollered for itself in my underwear hamper)
Fat Bastard has a problem.
Its very existence revolves solely around consuming anything organic.
I mean anything.

We can't have real plants anymore, not even cactus.
(My girlfriend didn't laugh when I, tired of the green vomit, suggested
Poinsettias)
We have all of the food stored in cupboards that have child locks on them.

Opening the fridge involves holding a broom.
(I'd love to teach the buddy a lesson by trapping it in there for a
little bit, but beyond the cessation of all sexual activity when my
girlfriend finds out, I'm pretty sure this thing is as well-insulated as a
walrus and I'd only open the door and discover carnage, not to mention
fuzzy rage propelling itself to freedom with one of it's signature
exertion farts)
We have a bungee cord holding the lid on the trash can, which also happens
to be attached to the wall to prevent, as my girlfriend calls it,
"accidental tipping".
Ordering pizza involves trapping it in a bedroom, then listening to it
scratch furiously at the door as soon as it gets a whiff of oregano.
It drinks pop.
We can't walk away from the stove while preparing a meal, as even scalding
hot pots and pans have proven no match for it's powerful, powerful lust.
I love bacon, yet it's become contraband since the "incident".
(Which my girlfriend still somehow regards as my fault, as if I encouraged
the frippin thing to snatch sizzling bacon right out of the pan,
headfirst, then tear-ass around the house alternating between muted
howling and ragged, gasping swallows.)
It has, on a number of occasions, snarfed an entire pack of cigarettes.
Christ, this cat has eaten soap that smelled like melon.
It was entertaining at first, playing the "Let's see what we can get in
there" game, but when this frippin beast blew right through wasabi,
jalapenos, mustard, lemons, live grasshoppers, Skittles, and an extra-shot
latte, I got the point.

I'm tired of having to treat simple food items like they're plutonium.
I miss having a bag of chips or a cold pizza on the coffee table while I'm
watching the game.
I'm fed up with having to wait to do laundry because a particularly rank dump has fouled the basement.

Enough is enough.

If you want her, she's yours.
The girlfriend or the cat, it's your call!
(If you choose the cat, you don't even have to get out of the car; I'll just unwrap a
Kraft single and throw it in the backseat.)

I was feeling a little down, had money... why not buy a FBD?
by MasterplayerC on Thu Oct 06, 2005 11:03 pm
So I felt like I needed to treat myself to something nice, and why not let it be a new guitar. After careful consideration, I opted for the FBD. Steve at BRG was awesome to work with. He helped me in the decision making between the MLF and the FBD by giving me all the info I needed, and I feel I totally made the right choice. 6 days was all it took and it is here. The case is great, the guitar is better. Awesome to look at, neck feels great, sticker is a great tribute. The traction knobs really need to get mentioned too, I can imagine sweating at a gig, and those things coming in pretty handy. The Dimebucker has tons of low end chunk, and the Dime trademark pierce. It's going to take some getting used to just how metal it really is. The neck pup is great for cleans and the higher ups for solos too. Clarity galore. I don't really know what else to say, I couldn't be happier. I need to borrow a camera for porn, but its really nothing you havent seen. Its just an awesome guitar. Thanks again to Steve at BRG for being super friendly and accomadating, and if you don't have a Dean, or just are in the mood to buy yourself something nice, give Steve a call and he will hook you up.

BL or BLUSA ?!
by I M Evil on Fri Oct 07, 2005 1:35 pm
I'm not going to ask which one is fake
or which one is better than the other.

I just got this L500 Rythm(not installed yet) and I don't
know if it's by Bill and Becky or BLUSA.

The only clues I've got is the wiring diagram that followed,
and a little piece of paper that says Lawrence Sound Research
and Nashville, Tennessee(spelling?).

Maybe a friendly Dean soul could help me on this one ? Smile

Ways To Annoy Your Public Bathroom Stallmate

1. Stick your open palm under the stall and ask your neighbor, "May I borrow a highlighter?"

2. Say, "Uh oh, I knew I shouldn't put my lips on that."

3. Cheer and clap loudly every time somebody breaks the silence with a bodily function noise.

4. Say, "Hmmm, I've never seen that color before."

5. Drop a marble and say, "Oh s#%t! My glass eye!"

6. Say, "Damn, this water is cold."

7. Grunt and strain real loud for 30 seconds and then drop a cantaloupe into the toilet bowl from a high place, then and sigh loudly.

8. Say, "Now how did that get there?"

9. Say, "Humus. Reminds me of humus."

10. Fill up a large flask with Mountain Dew. Squirt it erratically under the stall walls while yelling, "Whoa! Easy boy!"

11. Say, "Interesting, more sinkers than floaters."

12. Using a small squeeze tube, spread peaunt butter on a wad of toilet paper and drop it under the stall wall. Then say, "Whoops. Could you kick that back over here, please?"

13. Say, "C'mon Mr. Happy! Don't fall asleep on me!"

14. Say, "Boy, that sure looks like a maggot."

15. Say, "Damn, I knew that drain hole was a little too small. Now what am I gonna do?"

16. Play a well-known drum cadence over and over again on your butt cheeks.

17. Before you unroll toilet paper, conspicuously lay down your "Cross-Dressers Anonymous" newsletter on the floor, making it visible to the occupant of the adjacent stall.

18. Lower a small mirror underneath the stall wall and adjust it so you can see your neighbor and say, "Peek-a-boo!"
Guitar Center score! Non Dean Pic added
by Lon on Fri Oct 07, 2005 2:33 pm
Went with my girlfriend to GC last night with $300 cash to see what I could see. Looked at the used gear first (naturally) and there wasn't much to pique my interest, so I cruised the store about 10 times looking at amps and guitars and whatnot. I had almost decided to get a keyboard for $199 but decided to sleep on it. On the way out I said "let's take one more look". I never look at the Gibson stuff because it's just too expensive. Well, there on the rack was an '04 Gibson SG Special in the faded brown finish. No marks other than some minor buckle rash, no headstock repairs, no fretwear, nothing. $379. They're $649 new! I see that it's been there since Jul and offer the guy $300 out the door and he takes it! This is not a pic of mine, but it's identical. I only got a few minutes on mine last night but it'll get the full "Lon" treatment tonight after work. Who's a happy camper? Me!

Pickups
by Hrafn on Fri Oct 07, 2005 7:30 pm
At the moment I have a set of EMG HZ pickups in my guitar (H4 in the neck, H4A in the bridge) and I've ordered a Dimebucker which should be coming next week.

The thing is, I don't have too good of a musical ear, and I was hoping you guys could help me out. Does anyone know what difference this pickup will make? My guitar's an Epiphone Gothic G-400 with a Zoom 505 II effects pedal into a Marshall MG15DFX (I know its pretty crappy, but it's all I have Embarassed ).

It's just the Dimebucker is supposed to be pretty bad ass and I don't want to waste like 100 Euro on something that is going to sound no different.
Which Bill Lawrence 500's
by Rex Herring on Fri Oct 07, 2005 7:38 pm
I just got the EVO FT off of e-bay and it's nice!!

I want to put in some cream colored pups and was looking at the Bill Lawrence 500's. I was thinking of a 500C or 500R in the neck and a 500L in the bridge position. I don't need the 500XL as I don't do the heavy metal stuff.

Any comments or suggestions?
New Project - 99% finished
by Mike9 on Fri Oct 07, 2005 8:12 pm
Here's my new Jagmaster redo - it's candy apple red - a great color for a guitar like this. I made the pickguard from cream/black/cream stock and milled it for only two pickups. It's stocked with DiMarzios - Norton in the bridge and Pro Track in the neck. I never liked the way these pluged straight in so I milled the PG for a regular Strat jack plate - much better IMHO. The single volume is push/pull and sends the neck pickup into parallel mode - (nicer than just cutting a coil Wink) The bridge is an after market PRS type with a massive brass plate and steel block that I cut 3/16" off of to fit the body. I took a one piece maple neck and shaved the back, rolled the edges and recut the headstock to match an early '60s Jazzmaster. I milled it for the roller nut and sprayed it a matching candy red. Then I leveled, crowned and polished the frets, installed the nut, roller string trees and Grover locking tuners. This has killer action and you can dive bomb all day and it returns to pitch every time. It's one of the slinkiest guitars I've ever built - Hell if I can find roller saddles for it I'll get some - then there'd no friction anywhere on the chain. Razz

The last piece of the puzzle is on its way:

It's going on the pickguard between the pickups - we'll see when it gets here if it works fine and if not then I'll save it for another project. Twisted Evil

by guitarplayer1 on Fri Oct 07, 2005 9:06 pm
If not, check it out. It's a natural scale caused by the oscillation of the guitars strings as you play them. Not your every day double harmonic minor, ball crushing pentatonic scale, but still usefull. Use the scale maybe in a ballad or in the middle of a skull cracking lead for contrast.

Can anyone tell me about the signature USA Schenker V-Pros? Cons? I haven't read any reviews on it, so I'm curious if anyone on this forum has played it. I played the Korean version (Schenker custom v) and admittedly, I was not too impressed with it. The balance was off (too head heavy), thin sounding, and the fret dressing was less than spectacular. I'm hoping the US version is way better.

Best Complaint Letter Ever!
by Faust on Sun Oct 09, 2005 11:13 pm
I don't know if this was already posted... but it is brilliant! Try reading it to yourself with a John Cleese style voice!

Dear Cretins,

I have been an NTL customer since 9th July 2001, when I signed up for your 3-in-one deal for cable TV, cable modem, and telephone. During this three-month period I have encountered inadequacy of service which I had not previously considered possible, as well as ignorance and stupidity of monolithic proportions. Please allow me to provide specific details, so that you can either pursue your professional prerogative, and seek to rectify these difficulties - or more likely (I suspect) so that you can have some entertaining reading material as you while away the working day smoking B&H and drinking vendor-coffee on the bog in your office:

My initial installation was cancelled without warning, resulting in my spending an entire Saturday sitting on my fat arse waiting for your technician to arrive. When he did not arrive, I spent a further 57 minutes listening to your infuriating hold music, and the even more annoying Scottish robot woman telling me to look at your helpful website....HOW?

I alleviated the boredom by playing with my testicles for a few minutes - an activity at which you are no-doubt both familiar and highly adept. The rescheduled installation then took place some two weeks later, although the technician did forget to bring a number of vital tools - such as a drill-bit, and his cerebrum. Two weeks later, my cable modem had still not arrived. After 15 telephone calls over 4 weeks my modem arrived... six weeks after I had requested it, and begun to pay for it.

I estimate your internet server's downtime is roughly 35%... hours between about 6pm -midnight, Mon-Fri, and most of the weekend. I am still waiting for my telephone connection. I have made 9 calls on my mobile to your no-help line, and have been unhelpfully transferred to a variety of disinterested individuals, who are it seems also highly skilled bollock jugglers.

I have been informed that a telephone line is available (and someone
will call me back); that no telephone line is available (and someone will call me back); that I will be transferred to someone who knows whether or not a telephone line is available (and then been cut off); that I will be transferred to someone (and then been redirected to an answer machine informing me that your office is closed); that I will be transferred to someone and then been redirected to the irritating Scottish robot woman...and several other variations on this theme.

Doubtless you are no longer reading this letter, as you have at least a thousand other dissatisfied customers to ignore, and also another one of those crucially important testicle-moments to attend to. Frankly I don't care, it's far more satisfying as a customer to voice my frustrations in print than to shout them at your unending hold music. Forgive me, therefore, if I continue.

I thought BT were sh*t, that they had attained the holy piss-pot of god-awful customer relations, that no-one, anywhere, ever, could be more disinterested, less helpful or more obstructive to delivering service to their customers. That's why I chose NTL, and because, well, there isn't anyone else is there? How surprised I therefore was, when I discovered to my considerable dissatisfaction and disappointment what a useless shower of bastards you truly are. You are sputum-filled pieces of distended rectum incompetents of the highest order.

British Telecom - wankers though they are - shine like brilliant beacons of success, in the filthy puss-filled mire of your seemingly limitless inadequacy. Suffice to say that I have now given up on my futile and foolhardy quest to receive any kind of service from you. I suggest that you cease any potential future attempts to extort payment from me for the services which you have so pointedly and catastrophically failed to deliver - any such activity will be greeted initially with hilarity and disbelief quickly be replaced by derision, and even perhaps bemused rage. I enclose two small deposits, selected with great care from my cats litter tray, as an expression of my utter and complete contempt for both you and your pointless company. I sincerely hope that they have not become desiccated during transit - they were satisfyingly moist at the time of posting, and I would feel considerable disappointment if you did not experience both their rich aroma and delicate texture. Consider them the very embodiment of my feelings towards NTL, and its worthless employees.

Have a nice day - may it be the last in you miserable short life, you irritatingly incompetent and infuriatingly unhelpful bunch of twats.

the idea is to basically take a firewire PC interface and stick it in a guitar..

cool idea, but what a phenominally ugly headstock..

i might just take a cheap firewire interface, rip it apart and stick it in my Roland G-707 for fun.. i'd love to have Mark Lewno (lewnworx) make a entire RMC-based solution using firewire, but that would cost alot of money.. and i'm either real cheap, or just flat-assed broke..

anyone know of a really cheap.. and i mean REALLY cheap firewire interface for guitar??

Hey guys, my band's Explorer weilding guitarist had some free time the other night and metalized Storm Eagle. He did all the instruments with a drum machine, a crappy Ibanez Bass and his Explorer. We're gonna use it as our bands intro song to our concerts Twisted Evil Lemme know what you think guys, peace!

Etiquette for rednecks
by Faust on Mon Oct 10, 2005 11:13 pm
MARTHA STEWART'S TIPS FOR REDNECKS

1.Never take a beer to a job interview.
2.Always identify people in your yard before shooting at them.
3.It's considered tacky to take a cooler to church.
4.If you have to vacuum the bed it's time to change sheets.
5.Even if you're CERTAIN that you are included in the will ... it is still considered tacky to drive a U-Haul to the funeral.

DINING OUT
1.When decanting wine, make sure that you tilt the paper cup and pour slowly so as not to "bruise" the fruit of the vine.
2.If drinking directly from the bottle, always hold it with your fingers covering the label.

ENTERTAINING IN YOUR HOME
1.A centerpiece for the table should NEVER be prepared by a taxidermist.
2.Do NOT allow the dog to eat at the table ... no matter how good his manners are.

PERSONAL HYGIENE
1.While ears need to be cleaned regularly, this is a job that should done in private using one's OWN truck keys.
2.Proper use of toiletries can forestall bathing for several days. However if you live alone, deodorant is a waste of money.
3.Dirt & grease under the fingernails is a social no-no, as it tends to detract from a woman's jewelry & alter the taste of finger foods.

DATING (OUTSIDE THE FAMILY)
1.Always offer to bait your date's hook, especially on the 1st date.
2.Be aggressive. Let her know you're interested: "I've been wantin' to go out with you since I read that stuff on the bathroom wall 2 years ago.
3.Establish with her parents what time she is expected back. Some will say 10:00 PM; others might say "Monday". If the latter is the answer it is the man's responsibility to get her to school on time.

THEATER ETIQUETTE
1.Crying babies should be taken to the lobby & picked up as soon as the movie has ended.
2.Refrain from talking to characters on the screen. Tests have proven they cannot hear you.

WEDDINGS
1.Livestock, usually, is a poor choice for a wedding gift.
2.Kissing the bride for more than 5 seconds may get you shot.
3.For the groom, at least, rent a tux. A leisure suit with a cummerbund & a clean bowling shirt can create a tacky appearance.
4.Though uncomfortable, say "yes" to socks & shoes for this special occasion.

DRIVING ETIQUETTE
1.Dim your headlights for approaching vehicles; even if the gun is loaded, and the deer is in sight.
2.When approaching a four-way stop, the vehicle with the largest tires ALWAYS has the right of way.
3.Never tow another car using panty hose and duct tape.
4.When sending your wife down the road with a gas can, it is not polite to ask her to bring back beer too.
5.Do NOT lay rubber while traveling in a funeral procession.
Little news for the Rik Emmett fans here
by transblueZ on Mon Oct 10, 2005 11:22 pm
Former TRIUMPH singer/guitarist RIK EMMETT has updated fans on his new rock project with VON GROOVE vocalist/drummer Mike Shotton called AIRTIME, via a new newsletter sent out overnight. The update reads: "At this time, almost all of the overdubs have been completed (on the album Liberty Manifesto), with only a few lead guitar solos left to plug in, and then all the background vocals to be finished off then into the mixing stage it goes. There has been some talk about even getting some mixes done in 5.1 surround! The logo artwork is near the final stage, being handled by Rik's trusted friend in Pittsburgh at Double Play Designs, Jeanine Leech. Overall, the material moves from melodic rock towards a bit more of a progressive vibe, with some of the Rush / Led Zep influence. And as overdubs continue to grow, there is a trend towards stacking harmony guitars, like early WISHBONE ASH or THIN LIZZY or the approach of Tom Scholz (BOSTON) and Brian May (QUEEN). It's guaranteed that Mike and Rik will build some pretty thick background vocal harmonies, as they love the approach of bands like THE BEATLES, JOURNEY, YES and Queen. Once the mixing is done, there will be a 'shopping' period so that business contacts in the industry can get an opportunity to give it a listen. Additionally, Ric's new DVD Live At 10 Gigs has been in the top 10 best seller list at Maple Music for the last 6 weeks. Live At 10 Gigs is available from Maple Music: www.maplemusic.com. As previously reported, Emmett is confirmed for the 2006 edition of Germany's Bang Your Head Festival (www.bang-your-head.de) which is scheduled for June 23rd - 24th at Fairground Balingen in Balingen, Germany. He will be playing a full set of Triumph classics.
Czech V stock pup and general feed back question
by transblueZ on Tue Oct 11, 2005 1:34 am
Heya folks - just got my beautiful Korina V from Kevphol (excellent transaction and a great person to deal with) and it is an amazing axe. Just a quick question - anyone know what the stock pups are? It sounded nice in practice the other night. Only issue was with feed back during any stop and start kinda riffs. Is this a matter of lowering the pups a bit? or something else? My other axes don't behave this way at the same volume / gain levels (actually have to turn the gain down a bit when using my TC Z due to the SuperDistortions)

Warmoth Factory Tour
by Faust on Tue Oct 11, 2005 8:24 pm
I had the pleasure of taking a nickel tour of the Warmoth factory today. I ordered a body from them and they forgot to drill the routing to run wires from the pickups to the control cavity, so I called them about it... explained to them that I live close by and would not mind driving the body to the shop to have it drilled to save shipping costs and hassles. They do not have a store front and the public is not welcome due to insurance issues etc.... so I was not offered a tour... but I did manage to get a ten minute nickel tour from the sales manager. I was very lucky.

Image
The mailbox... this is the only place where the Warmoth name is displayed. I wonder how they fit all those necks and bodies in there when they are mailing them to people.... Razz

Image
This is it.... this is where the magic happens... wood goes in.... bodies and necks come out.

Image
The front door... I was expecting a sales counter... but when I walked in I was standing in the middle of the telephone call center with a bunch of guys looking at me with this "WTF" look on their faces... I had just invaded the nerve center of the warmoth sales dinasty... I quickly had to explain that I was there to see Gregg... who came to greet me.

Image
Warmoth has a strict corporate policy that any visitors must make a face like the Pilsbury Dough Boy when having their pictures taken with Gregg. Gregg is a very nice guy as were all the folks at Warmoth. I was made to feel at home... and the place kind of reminds me of home except most of my guitars are at least partially built.

Image
The Showcase rack... it was the first thing I saw when I burst in throught the front door before I turned my head to the left and saw all the surprised sales reps looking at me like I was a lost transient.... needless to say I had guitar body vertigo, so I probably looked like a starving junkie that was going to rob the place. Talk about a lot of guitar bodies in one place... wow!

Image
The Showcase neck rack... one of them..

Image
The other Showcase neck rack....

I have not seen so many great racks since my last trip to the Pink Poodle... but that's another story altogether.

Image
Packing and shipping. This is where the stuff all gets packed and shipped... duh!

Image
Custom neck tooling... these machines and tools were designed by Ken Warmoth and are superior to the ones used by Fender. They are capable of doing many neck shapes and cuts... Anyone who has tried a Warmoth neck can testify to the fact that the quality of shape, fit and finish is unbeatable.

Image
This is the neck guru. Gregg told me that this guy has been making guitar necks for Warmoth for 18 years. I did not check to see if he was chained to that table or not.

Image
Some necks ready to have truss rods and fretboards installed...

Image
Some exotic wood fretboard blanks...

Image
Chambered body blanks...

Image
Laminate tops...

Image
Some large wood blanks. The white archive racks on the left are where the laminate top blanks and some body blanks are stored.

Image
Custom cutting and drilling... I think they were going to cut that boombox into an Explorer shape...

Image
CNC Milling... one of three fully automated CNC mills I saw...

Image
CNC mill busy making a body... they have programs to make a lot of shapes... they can probably even make one shaped like a fried egg... not that I'm into that sort of thing.

Image
I kinda drifted off into dreamland while I was going up the stairs... it's a good thing I was holding onto the handrail... Gregg asked me if I always suck my thumb in public.

Image
This is where the tops are laminated onto the bodies. These guys must use a hundred gallons of glue per day.... OK... I'm exaggerating.

Image
Sanding and Finishing... these guys were actually goofing off until I pulled out the camera... then they started acting all busy.... Just kidding, they work their butts off in this place...

Image
Neck finishing. This is where the necks are prepped for spraying. I was not allowed into the painting areas... Gregg said I looked like I had inhaled enough paint fumes already! Wink

Image
Here's a stack of bodies... look at some of those tops... wow!

Image
More bodies... check out the spalted maple!

It was a great time. Many thanks again to Gregg for taking time out of his very busy schedule to show me around. These guys are a class act.

What the hell should I do in a situation like this?
by Rickyg on Wed Oct 12, 2005 5:43 pm
Ok, so here it is. The effects board went out on my amp and I rely on this thing. It was the only amp I had for practice (my other one is only 15 watts) So I took it in and they said, "Oh, it should be like a 2 week wait" so I wait the two weeks and call them and they are like "It should be here next week sometime". so I wait the week and call again and he is like "well we have a lot of amps to be fixed right now so we will call you when its done" Mad so I wait another motherfukking week, not being able to do much with my band Mad and then I call and the guy says "I will call the amp guy and then call you back tomorrow" so I wait and he calls the next day and he tells me "the amp guy is still waiting for the part to fix it" and I am starting to get frustrated but I keep cool about it and Im like "ok" and then I wait a week and not calls (this is week four) and so I call them and ask if its in yet and he is like "nope not yet" so I wait another goddam week and No amp so I call and he tells me "well the amp guy just got the part he needed to fix it, It should be ready by middle of next week" so I am like ok, thinking that It will be here like he said. I went in today to see if it was done and he called the amp guy while I was in there and when he gets off the phone he says "Well the part is on back order and wont be shipped for another 10 days, and then we will have to wait for 2 days for it to ship" I am so Fracking pissed at these lying Fracking bastards what the hell would you guys do in a Fracking situation like this? If I have to wait the 10 days that will make it 8 motherfukking weeks that its in there and My band is getting royaly screwed.
Some days you get a break
by Mike9 on Wed Oct 12, 2005 9:02 pm
And today is one of them - I get a call on my cell and a friend has a student who's hot for my Agile Les Pal that I redid so . . . he buys it and pays cash - WooHoo.

Then I get home and a package is there with this pair of Duncans I took a chance on the other night on eBay - I open them up and there they are - double cream bobbins Hmmm strange for Duncans . . . not wax potted and the stickers only have "B" and "N" on them, there is solder where the covers have been removed and hey there's a wooden spacer in there. I look them up and they turn out to be a matched set of Seth Lovers - not too shabby Cool

warmoth and H-S-H
by chambers on Thu Oct 13, 2005 12:12 am
First off. If anybody has had experiences with warmoth guitars good, bad?? secondly. I am thinking of a H-S-H setup for my guitar. My question is if I will have any problems if I have the following pickups: bridge:BL L-500XL middle: single coil lace sensor (red) neck:seymour duncan '59. I know that some brand pickups are only good when used with one another (ie EMG). will this be a plausible setup? thanks in advance.

by Powerglide350 on Thu Oct 13, 2005 3:40 am
I have been playing guitar for about 20 years and I have always had a short attention span with my gear. I would say in those 20 years I have owned at least 200 guitars (not all at once). I own 4 '79 series guitars now and they are easily the highest quality, best sounding, and downright nicest guitars I have ever owned.

Keep up the good work guys.

Time for Retribution
by Blackthorn on Thu Oct 13, 2005 7:08 am
I caught the Anthrax, Judas Priest show at The Chance in Poughkeepsie tuesday night. I must say it rocked. Anthrax delivered a great performance and just when you thought it couldn't get any better Priest came on. I must say I have never seen better solos live except for Iron Maiden at ozzfest this year. Halford can still belt it out too. He screamed so loud and there was so much reverb I swear my eyes rolled into their sockets lol. Priest was on stage for about 2 and a half hours. Towards the end halford begin to tire but they still brought it for the finale. Good show and I am glad I made it.
Best amp choice @ $300 ??
by All4Him on Thu Oct 13, 2005 12:39 pm
I want something pretty versatile, since I have no idea what type of tone I want.

I was thinking of a modeling amp, possibly the Line6 Spider II 75 (maybe the 30 and spend the difference on pedals)

I currently just have a 10w Kustom and no pedals, etc

Volume isn't really a concern, since it's just me playing in my office at home.

Opinions?

Thanks!

Do TC Deans get proprietary Dimarzios?
by jimlp on Thu Oct 13, 2005 6:07 pm
I am asking this question because the Dimarzio SD's that come in the TC's seem different than the SD's I have bought off the shelf. I had a Gibson V and I put Dimarzio SD in the bridge, it gave a very bright crunchy sound (think High n Dry era Def Lep). I them bought a TC V with a SD in the bridge and it was not even close to the same, it was darker sounding with less highs. I know guitars sound different and all but the TC has a maple cap that should make the guitar brighter overall, the SD in my TC Z sounded darker as well. Now I have a TC Caddy and the sound is brighter than my V or Z, that may have to do with there being less mahogany than the Z. Does anyone here know if the TC's get a "custom wound" Dimarzio SD?

It is a Maple neck to Ash body, instead of the stock all Alder.

Has anyone tried these and.or have them, or dealt with Carvin guitars???

I put money down for it, but what do you guys think, I was gonna get the HT from B&T, but the necks on em kill me.

The main differences between this and a normal ML is that this one has 24 frets and there is a different switch location.

I know this may come as a shock to some of you, but my real job isn't rockin'....it's advertisin'.

That's why my band Crankdaddy gets to play once a year in the Battle of The Ad Bands in New York. Well, this year, as part of the deal, Panasonic offered us FREE use of an $80,000 high def camera, an operator, and a small shooting budget to make a music video. So naturally, we said yes.

Before you go check it out, here a couple things you should know:

* This is my real office.
* These are my real co-workers.
* The copy room dancer is really hot.
* The "One Show" I make a reference to at one point is a prestigious advertising competition that rewards only the most creative advertising. Not crap.

Thanks for letting me share, guys. Hope you enjoy it. And oh yeah, it's safe for work.

by TheOnlyFactor on Fri Oct 14, 2005 10:55 am
Hey, check out my old band. Pretty much sounds like it was recorded in mono, into a stereo that was in a trash can. We're planning on rewriting some of the songs for reuse in a new band. Let me know what yalls think.

And yes for the most part I know it sounds like ass, so don't be afraid to tell me. The drums and singer specifically.

by TOO OLD FOR THIS on Fri Oct 14, 2005 4:53 pm
Here's a forward from a friend of mine... I couldn't help but chuckle

A frog goes into a bank and approaches the teller. He can see from her nameplate that her name is Patricia Whack.

"Miss Whack, I'd like to get a $30,000 loan to take a holiday."

Patty looks at the frog in disbelief and asks his name. The frog says his name is Kermit Jagger, his dad is Mick Jagger, and that it's okay, he knows the bank manager.

Patty explains that he will need to secure the loan with some collateral.

The frog says, "Sure. I have this," and produces a tiny porcelain elephant, about an inch tall, bright pink and perfectly formed.

Very confused, Patty explains that she'll have to consult with the bank manager and disappears into a back office.

She finds the manager and says, "There's a frog called Kermit Jagger out there who claims to know you and wants to borrow $30,000, and he wants to use this as collateral."

She holds up the tiny pink elephant. "I mean, what in the world is this?"

(you're gonna love this)

(its a real treat)

(a masterpiece)

(wait for it)

The bank manager looks back at her and says...

"It's a knickknack, Patty Whack. Give the frog a loan. His old man's a Rolling Stone."

VAMPIRES OF VAUDVILLE JA1010'S BAND.. PROMO EP REVIEW
by DeanBELAIREguy on Fri Oct 14, 2005 5:58 pm
I have been meaning to post this for a while now but haven't had the time...

our own ja1010 sent me his bands demo CD a couple of weeks ago.. and i have to say i have had it in my cd player in my car since...

there are 5 tracks on it.. i will review each one of them

-Track 1 is on the DOA cd it is called Funk and Wagnals..
if you heard the version on the DOA cd you gotta hear it as it was meant to be mixed. This is no dig on you Brian but the production on this song is unbelievable on on this cd (as it is on the rest of the cd) ... it is a cool funky instrumental ala satriani on Meth.. it has some really neat timing things going on

-Track 2 is a little more straight forward beat wise but it has a really great hook and catchy rhythm part this really reminded me of satriani... JA's playing is over the top as usual this is a great tune..

- Track 3 is my favorite song on the cd.. the song it self has great structure.. the only nit pic i have on this whole cd is the production on this song.. the basss drum and the rhythm guitar are hitting in the same frequency and is over driving the speakers a good bit.. even in my high dollar system in my car.. this song is so good
though... you said you knew what happened i look forward to a version that i can crank... Very Happy

- Track 4 noodling and shredding and whammy pedal fun... very cool and original this song s going to get me a ticket... it makes me want to drive fast...

- Track 5 a great take on what should be everyone's favorite song.. The Star Spangled Banner...if satch and eric johnson had grox and had a child that played the Star spangled banner... this is what i would have immagined it would have sounded like... clean and solid.. nice interpretation.....

If you havent checked out ja101's site.. http://vov.tentenland.net/ do your self a favor and do it.... his album comes out in december i believe... get it.. if the whole thing is as good as the ep then it will be in heavy rotation in my cd changer.. great stuff from one of the best players and all around guy on this board.. i hear if you are a DOA member you will get a .0001% discount... so you better sign up now!!!

of course these are just my opinions... i may be wrong..

What's the difference between a covered pickup and uncovered?
It is purely design or does a cover offer any functionality over uncovered ones?

Cyclone, V-Max, X2, or hd-147 (line 6).....need opinions
by sixstringslinger on Sat Oct 15, 2005 4:52 pm
Just looking for some insight into these amps from people who have tried them or own them.....

I found a cyclone in camouflage that I like but I've never played one....This is the one I'm leaning towards but not sure how it sounds.....figured I might as well get some opinions on other amps too.

Here's what I'm looking for:
1. Bone crushing distortion.
2. Good clean tones (may not get used too often).
3. Something that sounds brutal at low volumes too.

Thanks!!!!!!

Dio and Iommi recording 2 new tunes for a greatest hits cd
by transblueZ on Sun Oct 16, 2005 12:13 am
From the Iommi.com forums, nope didn't get a chance to talk with Dio myself.

Ronnie James Dio is working with Iommi again! He told me last night. I told him that his son was a visitor on the board here and asked him if he would consider working with Tony again, and Ronnie said "what do you mean consider? I'm working with Tony now. There's no problem with me and Tony or with Sabbath. In fact we're doing two songs right now to go on a new record called Sabbath - The Ronnie James Dio years!"

"Wow!" I said "Can I report that on iommimessageboard or such like? Or is it a secret?" and Ronnie said "You can post it wherever you like. It's no secret, it's happening."

I was wary of posting it on here without permission from The Office or whatever but RJD is adamant he's talking about it and it's no secret.

Our Trip To The Netherlands - (Warning Tons of Pics)
by DizzyDean on Sun Oct 16, 2005 4:02 pm
Every once and a while, this board can get all up in arms about all sorts of things. It's nice to remember some times, that despite the rough spots, some great friendships are made and maintained through this forum. People from all around the world meet and hang out because we all share one thing in common - our love for Dean Guitars.

At DOA, Patty and I met Hans and Inge from the Netherlands. We hit it off from the get go and we really enjoyed their company. We also hooked up one more time on Florida's East Coast before they went back home. When we parted ways, we told them we would love to come see them in The Netherlands and they were quick to extend an invitation to their home. So, a year and a half or so later, we hopped on a plane and took them up on their offer of hospitality!

Here are some pics from the trip. There's a lot here, but I also know you DOA'ers are really going to enjoy seeing them.

All things aside, this little photo essay sums up why this is the greatest forum in the world!!!

Our trip began in Amsterdam. What a party city - never seen anything like it. Here's a typical street scene, the canal and the canal houses in the background.

Image

The first night we saw Hans and Inge, they came to Amsterdam and we went out and hit the clubs! I have no recollection of this one being taken. To say we partied that night would be an understatement.

Image

Of course, what visit to Amsterdam would be complete without a visit to the Redlight District! We saw some interesting shows Shocked and I found the window shopping much better than back home Wink !! Patty and I did venture into a coffee shop one night, asked for the mildest "brew", then quickly realised that "mild" was all relative!! Holy smokies - they sure like their "coffee" strong!! And the strong stuff....YOWZA....never had anything like it.

We also visited the Hash and Marijuana Museum. Here's Patty checking out one of the exhibits.

Image

And of course, what Marijuana museum would be complete without an interesting exhibit on how to grow your own!!!

Image

Next, it was off for Hans and Inge's excellent Netherlands adventure!!

Here we are sampling some of the Netherlands native snacks by the Sea in Scheveningen. Bitterballen are bite sized versions of a snack called Croquettes. If you've never had these little devils - man - you haven't lived!!! By the way, notice that most, if not all the pics, have the bluest skies! The weather was phenomenal with no clouds and temps in the mid 70's!!!

Image

Here's Hans and I walking back from getting our feet wet in the North Sea!

Image

A shot of us enjoying a nice cool drink at the beach. The beaches are gorgeous in the Netherlands. They run as far as the eye can see with huge dune areas along the shoreline. It reminded me of Cape Cod.

Image

We took a trip up to Lelystad to see a ship that the Dutch had built by hand. An authentic replica of a wooden merchant ship from the 1600's (think pirate ship), the Batavia. It really was amazing to see!

Image

Image

Here's a cool shot from a city called Delft. It was one of my favorate places - tons of history there.

Image

Here's Patty and I in front of the World Court in The Hague. It was cool to be standing at such a historic site.

Image

Next it was off to Maastricht and a tour of it's ancient ruins. Some great historic sites and a great place to spend the day exploring. Look carefully and you might even see some Dean wings in the pic.

Image

A great shot of Inge on one of the Cannons that used to guard the city!

Image

Here's the 4 of us in the Netherlands oldest pub!!! I forget how old it was, a couple of hundred years!!!

Image

This was kinda cool! While sitting next to a canal enjoying a cold one, a barge came by! Check out the name on the back!!

Image

Now, in case you haven't noticed, beer is featured prominently in this report. Well, we did try some other stuff too! One night after dinner, I felt like a Grand Marnier, so, I ordered a double. This is what they brought me. And the pic was taken after a sip or 2!! The cost.....about $12usd....for about 6 or 7 oz's as near as I could figure!!

Image

Next we went to the Historic city of Valkenburg. Here we toured the ruins of a castle which was quite amazing. Here we are overlooking Valkenburg from the Castle.

Image

Patty exploring the castle ruins.

Image

After the castle, we toured some underground cave systems. Now, pictures can't describe what we saw or experienced. There were huge pictures drawn into the cave walls with charcoal. They were incredible to see and you simply can't capture the experience with a camera. Here we are in front of one of the pictures.

Image

Then we were treated to a surprise. Hans had made arrangements with one of the Netherlands most famous breweries, Hertog Jan, to give us a tour. It was a small operation that produced some of the most amazing beer I have ever tasted. They also make regular Pilsner beer, but this particular brewery was devoted to their specialty line. Beers that had as much as 10% alcohol levels and tasted very rich! We brought some home with us and it's actually best to age it for a few years. One thing is for sure, when Hans and Inge come to visit us, we will crack a bottle of Hertog Jan Grand Prestige!!

Image

Here's Patty with the Brew Master tour guide pouring some beer direct from the tanks. At this point in the tour, the beer was about 1/2 way through the brewing stage!

Image

Hans trying the finished product....

Image

"Hans - stand guard....I'm goin in!!!!!!!!"

Image

After the tour it was time to visit the pub across the street. The pub actually has a pipeline that runs over the road. It goes directly from a brew tank to the pubs taps! Now that's fresh beer!!! Oh, by the way. The average cost of a beer in a pub was under $2. And, you could get a case at the grocery store for..............are you ready for this..............about $6usd. That's 24 bottles folks - 50 cents a pop!!! Yep - beer is cheaper than Coke or Pepsi in the Netherlands!!!

Image

What trip to the Netherlands would be complete without some windmill pics?? I was actually surprised to see how common they were. Lots of them around the country side and some still in use and turning!

Image

We have a mascot we take with us on our trips and photograph him with something unique to that country. Here's Gary in Holland!!! I think maybe Gary will come to DOA this year!

Image

As a contrast, here's the new version used to make power. When we went to Lelystad, we passed though fields that had these monsters as far as the eye could see!

Image

Of course, there was time for just relaxing too! On the nights we stayed home, Hans would cook us supper, then he and I would wash the dishes while the girls jammed!!!!

Image
Image

That's about it folks. Sorry for so many pics, but when you have 250 it's hard to narrow them down (and we'll keep the REALLY incriminating pics off!!). As I said, I know a lot of you will really enjoy them.

I must also say the Dutch eat like Kings. We have travelled all over the world and I have never had food as good as I did here. Their collection of restaurants is endless and so is the variety. I had the best Indian and Greek food I have ever had! We also had Indonesian, Chinese, and of course authentic Dutch food!!! I gotta tell ya - Hans can cook!!!!

Our hosts - well what can I say? They bent over backwards to show us one hell of a good time. They went so far above and beyond the call of hospitality. All of what you saw here was planned by Hans and Inge for us. Each day we got up, they had something else great to show us. We drove 100's of kilometers, overnighted in hotels, walked many many miles, and basically got a real feel of life in the Netherlands. What a great country! We will forever be indebted and gratefull to Hans and "Inke" for showing us their part of the Blue Marble we call earth.

People that met because of this forum. Friendships that will last a lifetime because of Dean Guitars!

One last thing....in the interest of exchanging culture, we explained to our hosts what we mean when we use the term "Dutch Oven"!!! They thought it was funny, but it did leave us wondering where that came from?????

Multi stands for ml's v's etc...
by lotusguy2001 on Sun Oct 16, 2005 10:13 pm
Hi guys long time lurker new poster.. I have pretty much played strat styles and les pauls except for the occasional v until recently where I have acquired a bunch of deans and washburn dime v's and ml's. I used to use the rockstand multi stand for my guitar needs but the mls and v's do not fit. I generally have to bring several axes per show 4 hours of covers from the 70's thru modern. I need my seven string schecter, then I usually brought 2 pauls, and a floyded esp lynch strat style. Now that I have converted, what stands do you suggest to carry a few of the odd shaped guitars? Is there even a multi stand that accomodates these type of guitars? What do you use? Thanks in advance! Chris
Completely O/T - Interior Painting
by jim6 on Sun Oct 16, 2005 10:58 pm
I just got done painting our kitchen. Started at about noon yesterday.

Think twice before choosing red for a room color. Actually, it's "Awning Red" from the Behr Palate of Colors in a flat enamel finish.

Three solid coats of that stuff with several hours of drying time in-between coats. One and Two went on yesterday, with another round of cut-in and Coat Three today. Of course, it had to be the room with the most corners, doorways, windows and cabinetry.

It looks nice, but it was a major pain in my taint.

this is freaky! im freaking out!
by Sharky on Tue Oct 18, 2005 11:49 am
im not sure if anyone else is aware of this but follow these steps and you will be freaked out!

1. first, open microsoft word
2. type in Q33 NY (make sure its in CAPS)
3. Set the size to 48, and the font to Wingdings
4. Be freaked out!

explaination - Q33 is the first plane that went into the trade centres, and NY obviously stands for New York.

Who likes talking about amps?!
by Anonymous on Tue Oct 18, 2005 3:12 pm
Alright...

Been doing some amp research and I think I have finally figured out my amp problem. What I am trying to accomplish is mix vintage and modern tones. My problem with vintage distortion (Marshall JCM-ish tone) is that it's more mud than tone and it doesn't have enough bottom end. A lot of people have pointed me towards Laney and Blue Voodos. Anyone have any suggestions or background information on these amps? Help a brudda out. Word up. Peace. [/wiggertalk]

Is dean now making WHITE cadillacs, ML,Z in the 79 series?

Dean Guitar Rusting and Pickup Question
by safeman on Tue Oct 18, 2005 7:02 pm
I bought a dean hardtail select less than a year ago, and really like how it plays. Ive noticed recently that the bridge (which is silver) is turning a pinkish hue in certain spots. Has anyone ever had this problem before?

On a completely different topic, Im thinking of throwing a Seymour Duncan Jazz and JB in this guitar. What is your opinion on these pups in a guitar like this? I need versatile pups because I play lots of jazz, blues, funk and hard rock with the occasional dose of prog metal.

Thanks

Tell me about Hardtail Selects please
by Lon on Tue Oct 18, 2005 9:08 pm
I've been offered a very nice one for my SG. I'll say right now that the Hardtail is the only Dean I'd consider owning at the moment until they make a better strat copy. Just can't do the pointies, and Dean is pointy central these days. So tell me about these selects. They look really nice, but the only one I got my hands on had sharp fret ends that turned me off at $650.

Hurricane Wilma - CAT 5 overnight!
by BLOYD on Wed Oct 19, 2005 1:30 pm
Local news (Tampa) Overnight, Hurricane Wilma grew into a Category 5 monster. But it's not just any Category 5; it's the strongest ever recorded.

Great…just when I thought we would make it without any Hurricanes hitting Florida this year. 4 last year was enough to last me a while.

Right now the path shows it crossing the state just below Tampa, which is good for me but if the track moves North any, bad stuff. We’ll know by tomorrow just what part of Florida will get smacked…then we’ll have to go out and get supplies instead of Halloween candy.

From The Megadeth Forum...Unsigned bands.
by AdamTHEdeviL on Wed Oct 19, 2005 5:18 pm
Thought some of you guys might be interested...

Ok, I need just a little bit of help from you guys. Sometime in the next 6 weeks, We hope to be launching a 1 hour Rockline type show on Vertigo Radio tentatively titled: Unsigned Live. The name basically tells you what We want to do with it. We want to do an hour long interview with a different unsigned band each week, to help them promote their music live on the air. Requirements for this are: Cd and Press Kit, or full length mp3 album and wordpad bio. It would also be nice to have some singles for us to give out as contest prizes, but I'll leave that up to the bands, to determine just how much promotion they want.

Being as I cannot call any foreign country on my cell phone, All bands must be within the continental united states for the time being. Perhaps sometime in the future we can expand to worldwide...but I cant afford to front that phone bill right now.

If you're in a band who is interested in appearing on this show, contact me at VertigoRadio@gmail.com. It will more than likely air on thursday nights, and will be a 1 hour live show. I'd like to start compiling a list of bands asap.

Thanks,

-jay.

PRS is really pissing me off...
by chambers on Wed Oct 19, 2005 8:59 pm
Im a lefty. I got one of the last left handed PRS's to be produced. now, this is a preference but PRS guitars fit me perfectly, its almost like they were made for the way I play. Not knocking dean and yes Im aware this is a dean forum but I cant help it. anyways, as you may or may not know, PRS stopped producing left handed models!!! the only ones you can get are custom private stock models. I applied for a private stock quote and will be waiting for the return. In the mean time, the guy who is sending my quote says that all private stock PRS's start at 6500 FUCKINGDOLLARS!!!! thats absolutely ridiculous IMO. especialy for us lefties who can only get a PRS through private stock. were they losing money on the left handed PRS's??? I mean, I dont know if ANY guitar is worth what they make you pay for a custom job. i dunno, just venting, questions, comments?

QUICK UPDATE
by Dischord on Thu Oct 20, 2005 12:20 am
Alright, here goes:

My future in the Army seems to have a lot of beachfront property with NO OCEAN...very soon. TNVOL, if you're still over there I'll be doing some drill instruction for the Hajis in Baghdad, date to be announced but within the next 90 days.

My promotion to SSG is in jeopardy because PSB decided it would be nice to lose 40 of my promotion points two weeks before they go active and my promotion would be in effect if I had at least 38 of those points...gotta love these people!

I have pictures to share when I have time of Avarice, and me dressed up like a Haji...LMAO...something to think about.

While doing our field duty the rear detachment soldiers decided it would be fun to find visiting combat engineers, stab them in the chest and toss them off the third floor balcony to the pavement below, and the landings are completely vertical so the drop is straight down with no stops and no waiting before you become part of the scenery! So CID is investigating the drunken barracks murderer (he gets these engineers drunk first), but what sucks most is that these things are in MY UNIT'S BARRACKS...not just the division, nope...my COMPANY...go figure...

So yes I'm submerged completely to my eyeballs in red tape and haven't had a second to breathe and take in the lovely sights and smells of Texas lately...

Stay cool folks if the next time you hear from me I'm no longer stateside!

Hi All,

I don't know if any of you would be interested but I promised a friend

They are playing in an indoor social soccer team throughout the
fall/winter and are desperately in need of a coach. They need someone
to
help out with Training 1-2 nights a week and since I am not that
interested in soccer and am far too busy with other projects I said I
couldn't get involved.
If any of you are interested in helping out with coaching and attending
the occasional game on a weekend during the summer please let me know.

Any assistance would be appreciated; I've attached a team photo to this
email for you to decide whether you're interested:

Thanks.

by Lon on Thu Oct 20, 2005 1:53 pm
I've got my Gibson SG up for sale or trade here and at the Fender site. I've been offered some good stuff for it. A Caddy Select, a Fender 72 Custom RI Tele, a Hardtail Select (with $$ from me), and now the kicker. My personal Holy Grail of Deans, a flame green EVO Premium. I've wanted an EVO Premium, especially a green one, since the day I found out they existed. I never was particularly an SG fan, but something about this one has taken hold of me. I think it's the ebony board, 1 11/16 nut, and 24 3/4 scale, all of which are identical to the Premium. So why am I still thinking about it??? Tell me to pull my head out and pull the trigger. Razz Actually I think it's the 490R and 490T pups in the Gibby that I like so much. I've heard so many good things about the Peraly Gates that I'm sure I'd love them as well. 12-string guitar?
by pink_pantera on Fri Oct 21, 2005 6:07 am
I'd like to know if anyone, here, has ever learned how to play a 12 stringed, or more, guitar Question And, if so, what are the challenges in learning and accomplishing the task Question What songs require a guitarist to manuever those techniques and where/when are they mainly applied Question

The only time I've seen a 12-stringed guitar played/used is in a LED ZEPPELIN concert video: THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME "Dazed & Confused" is the track. It's one of my top ten favorites.

WoW - new set of Groove Tube 12ax7Ms came today - WoW
by Mike9 on Fri Oct 21, 2005 9:12 pm
I ordered a pair of the new Groove Tube 12ax7Ms the other day from Torres Engineering. I've read such good things about these that I had to try a set in my Crate vintage club 20. These are made to the exact specs of the vintage Mullard tubes (hence the "M" in the name). Now I have a pair of real vintage Mullards and I can't tell the difference. These are replacing a pair of Ei Elite Golds which are great tubes, but these GT's are the faschizzle, but without the sizzle. These are the quietest preamp tubes I've ever heard. The clean is glassy and the gain is killer fat & the transition is as smooth as young booty on prom night.

I can't recommend these enough - they cost me like $20 ea + shipping. If you want the best preamp tube out there today, but can't afford $100s of dollars for vintage these babys are the way to go. They deliver the Tone, the whole Tone and nuthin' but the Tone. Cool

just thought i would post this demo of the boss dr-5 drum machine which has been discontinued, only place i know that has any is ebay.
these do make great little machines and the impressive part is you can plug your guitar into it and trigger just about any sound you want and has a built in 4 track sequencer and you can record parts and make them into songs.
cons of this unit is the machine cant keep up with your guitar playing and the buttons are small and it dont have alot of banks of memory to store songs.... but those can be deleted

And is that a 29 fret guitar he's got there???
why am I not surprised?

Line 6 Uber Metal

Well on the advice of some forum members I dumped the Zoom 505 II and picked up this distortion pedal and it kicks ass. It has three modes: Metal (early Metallica sound, think Fade To Black), Pulverize (high gain ass kickery) and Insane (which is reeeallly high gain) and has a noise gate which is pretty damn good. It has bass, treble, scoop and mid controls (you select which mid frequency then choose how much you want to scoop it). It also has drive and level knobs.

My only problem with it is that it makes my amp shake from the bass. And you can hear it, it's a very loud shake. This is really frippin up my playing and if I turn the bass down it sounds thin as hell. So I've basically got a choice between noticable amp shaking sound or thin shitty non shaking sound...any clues on what I should do?

New VoV tune from ja1010 - Nu Boogie Jam - w/special guest
by kevphol on Sat Oct 22, 2005 9:23 pm
Me! Laughing Much thanks to Jeff for involving me on this cut, waiting on me to get my parts to him and working his butt off to clean up my stuff and make it all work! Thanks to Brian as well for his work on it!

It should be easy to distinguish between the two of us at the transitions. (besides, his playing is the REALLY GOOD playing and mine is the, ummm, other playing.) Oh, and my parts were done on my Czech EVO Deluxe.

Check it out.

I still have my Bel Aire in a not finished state. I have had a Wilkenson Trem and roller nut installed. I have also bought the pups.
Next would be 3 new pots, selector switch and an input jack.
Are there a difference between the Fender style pots that would go on this pickguard and the ones on my Z? And the pup selector, guess it's only the typical 5 way switch, do they still have 3 way ones? Bridge, middle, neck - all I need. Any suggestions? thank you my fine Dean friends.
Any Online (PC) Gamers Here?
by X6StringerX on Sat Oct 22, 2005 10:26 pm
I have $15 in BestBuy bucks from the latest McDonald's Monopoly game and I was thinking of buying a new game. Well... not new, but something along the lines of Call of Duty or maybe Battlefield: Vietnam. I want something I can play online with other people... also thought of Halo: Combat Evolved. Any other suggestions?

EDIT: I should also add that I was a huge Diablo II: LOD fan, so I'm also looking at online RPGs like Sacred, Neverwinter Nights, and Dungeon Siege. (I don't think I can get DS on Best Buy's site though... and the closest Best Buy store is like an 1-1/2 hours away, so that defeats the purpose of using the $15 off, lol.)

WTF is up with metal vocalists?
by DeanV on Sun Oct 23, 2005 3:52 am
I'm watching the weekly metal show we get up here. I get to see metal videos once a week and they usually play stuff I can't get into.

Nile - Sarcophagus. WTF is he saying????????? Music's pretty decent but as soon as he starts with the bbbbbblllllllllllaaaaaaaarggggggg!!!!!! Click.

Then some other band who was really cool... Bllllaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrggggggggggg...........click.

Lamb of God is on now. I kinda lke this tune. Laid to Rest. But man... Blaaaaaaaaaaaaarggggggggggggg!!!!!! Not nearly as bad as the other 2 though.

In Flames up next. I kinda like them.

FINALLY something I like!

I just don't get it. I like vocalists who can actually sing or at least grunt. These "Blaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggg" guys do absolutely nothing for me. I enjoy it about as much as I enjoy rap.

Last video: Earth AD. I've heard garage bands better than this.

So, 5 vids of which I enjoyed 1.

*Sigh*
Rant over.

Jay Turser guitars, are they any good?

How about Tokai?
I used to own a Tokai but sold it some 15 years ago and kinda regret it. It was a beautiful guitar.

Pearly Gates
by CherryBurstV on Sun Oct 23, 2005 4:40 pm
I saw in picture of Billy Gibbons '59 Pearly Gates Les Paul the other day in FHM magazine, and it had P-90s in it. Is this correct. I thought PAFs were used in that era. Why are Duncan Pearly Gates standard HBs then?
