I made the Vinyl Graphics for this guitar on my computer. The name of my band is the Rezidudes & We suck & you deserve it is our catch phrase. Thats where the crank up the suck and suck boost comes from. I liked the way the Dean wings fit on the back of the guitar.

She was on her way to work and came over a hill to find a slow moving dump truck full of corn Shocked She tried to swerve to go around and didn't quite make it. Fortunately noone was in the passenger seat. Her new car,15K miles, is toast Crying or Very sad

The dump truck suffered a broken tail light and left a couple of bushels of corn inside the wifes car.

Now I guess I need to sell a few guitars to pay for that corn Laughing

She has a few scrapes on her forehead where the windshield cam in on her. This was probably the first time she has worn her seatbelt without me saying something to her. Air bag didn't go off because she went under the truck and didn't hit her bumper. Most of the impact was at the point where the windshield meets the hood.

Now we have to find another Honda CRV SE just like that one Confused She won't have anything else.

Who are these girls?
by defconfive on Tue Nov 01, 2005 11:35 pm
I was browsing the pic archive and found these girls on the first page of Archive 4. (There is also a super nice HT on the same page)

Anyone know who they are? I haven't seen them in a thread before. Could it be someone is just using the archive as their personal photo dump?

They're very pretty I must say. (Leave it at that. The girls are someone's daughter, girlfriend, etc)The pictures were definetely taken in a northern region. And why are they standing in a corn field?

Are You A Redneck?
by JACKHOLE on Wed Nov 02, 2005 12:24 am
25 ways to tell if you're a Redneck
1. The Halloween pumpkin on your porch has more teeth than your spouse.

2. You let your twelve-year-old daughter smoke at the dinner table in front of her kids.

3. You've been married three times and still have the same in-laws.

4. You think a woman who is "out of your league" bowls on a different night.

5. Jack Daniels makes your list of "most admired people."

6. You wonder how service stations keep their restrooms so clean.

7. Anyone in your family ever died right after saying, "Hey y'all watch this."

8. You think Dom Perignon is a Mafia leader.

9. Your wife's hairdo was once ruined by a ceiling fan.

10. Your junior prom had a daycare.

11. You think the last words of the Star Spangled Banner are, "Gentlemen start your engines."

12. You lit a match in the bathroom and your house exploded right off its wheels.

13. The bluebook value of your truck goes up and down, depending on how much gas is in it.

14. You have to go outside to get something from the fridge.

15. One of your kids was born on a pool table.

16. You need one more hole punched in your card to get a freebie at the House of Tattoos.

17. You can't get married to your sweetheart because there's a law against it.

18. You think loading a dishwasher means getting your wife drunk.

19. Your toilet paper has page numbers on it.

20. Somebody hollers "Hoe Down" and your girlfriend hits the floor.

21. You have a complete set of salad bowls and they all say "Cool Whip" on the side.

22. The biggest city you've ever been to is Wal-Mart.

23. Your working T.V. sits on top of your non-working T.V.

24. Your neighbors think you're a detective because a cop always brings you home.

25. You missed 5th grade graduation because you had jury duty.
Alnico II Pro's In Hardtail Select
by safeman on Wed Nov 02, 2005 2:04 am
This is the combination that keeps getting recommended to me, although it appears to be better in maple wooded instruments.
Im looking for a great jazz and blues sound, and also a smooth lead tone for shred fusion licks. ie..light pick attack.

Here are the tones I am going for/ admire.

Clean - Wes or Jim Hall
Distorted - Warren Haynes/ Slash
Overdriven - John Petrucci/ Frank Gambale

Im aware that all these players are gods in their own right, but I just wanted to throw out the kinda tones I admire.
I also really dig Robben Fords tone for blues.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I got the coolest reverb pedal this week
by Mike9 on Wed Nov 02, 2005 9:05 pm
I don't have reverb built into my amp so I've been looking for a pedal other than my Zoom 507. I happened on the "Little Lanilei" - this is a cool pedal - here's a paragraph lifted from the websight:

The Little Lanilei Reverb Pedal™ consists of an Accutronics™ 8" (3) spring reverb tank with a driver stage forcing all that beautiful guitar tone from your guitar down through the springs. The blend knob controls the mix from wet to clean and the gain knob controls the amount of reverb. What does it sound like? Very vintage reverb!

This pedal is totally quiet in by pass mode and engaged. This is great when you don't want to go to the amp to tweek the tone. I highly recommend this pedal to anyone who needs a reverb pedal.

Here's the makers website - they make a slew of other cool looking products too: http://www.songworks.com/pages/1/index.htm

and then click where it says "Stem!" (which means "vote"), I would be really happy Smile

FROM DESK OF
MR.Miller Joseph
BILL AND EXCHANGE MANAGER
FOREIGN REMITTANCE DEPT
BANK OF AFRICA PLC.
COTONOU-BENIN.Branch
Dear Friend.

I know this email will reach you as a surprise, but need not to
worry as i am using the only secured and confidential medium
available to seek for foreign assistance in a business.
I am MR .Miller Joseph. from the BANK OF AFRICA. PLC,
COTONOU-REPUBLIC OF BENIN.Branch. This business request may seem
strange, but I crave your indulgence and pray you view it seriously
as I am convinced that you would be capable to provide me with a
solution to a money transfer.

On August, 2002, a retired Atlanta physician Mr George Brumley Jr
made a numbered time (fixed) deposit for twelve calendar months,
valued at US$6,500,000.00(Six Million Five Hundred Thousand
Dollars )in my branch upon maturity. I sent a routine notification
to his forwarding address but got no reply.
After a month, we sent a reminder and finally we discovered from
his contract employers, that the Atlanta physician Mr George Brumley
Jr and his family died in the plane crash On july , 2003 . See site
below for confirmation of the death. May there Gentle soul rest in
peace.
http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/africa/07/20/kenya.crash/index.html
On further investigation, I found out that he died alongside with
his next of kin and attempts to trace his further next of kin were
fruitless.

Since we got information about his death, we have been expecting
his extended next of kin (family members)to come over and claim his
money because we cannot release it unless some body applies for it
as next of kin or relation to the deceased as indicated in our
banking guidlines and laws but unfortunately we learnt that all his
supposed next of kin or relation died alongside with him at the
plane crash leaving nobody behind for the claim. This sum of
US$6,500,000.00 and the interest is being rolled over with the
principal sum at the end of each year . If no one ever come forward
to claim it according to African law, at the expiration of (two)
years, the money will revert to the ownership of the Benin
Government if nobody applies to claim the fund.

Consequently, my proposal to you is that I will like you as a
foreigner to stand as the next of kin to Mr George Brumley Jr and
claim this funds so that the fruit of this old man's labor will not
get into the hands of some corrupt Government officials. This is
simple, I will like you to provide immediately your full name and
address so that i can apply for an Attorney on your behalf who will
prepare the necessary documents and affidavits which will put you in
place as the next of kin.We shall employ the service of a probate
attorney for the drafting and notarization of the Will and obtain
the necessary documents and letter of probate administration in your
favour for the transfer.

Any bank account in any part of the world which you will provide
will then facilitate the transfer of this money to you as the
beneficiary/next of kin.The money will be paid into your account for
us to share in ratio of 40% for me and 40% for you and 10 % will
be set aside for expenses incured during the business while the
other 10% will be given to charity organisation. There is no risk at
all; the paperwork for this transaction will be done by the attorney and
my position as the banks branch Bills and Exchange Manager
guarantees the successful execution of this transaction.
If you are interested, please reply immediately via my private email
address below . upon your response, I shall provide you with more
details and relevant documents that will help you understand the
transaction.

Please observe utmost confidentiality and be rest assured that
this transaction would be most profitable for both of us because I
shall require your assistance to invest my share in your country.
Please upon the receipt of this mail message, send to me the
following to enable me start the processing of the fund transfer:

1.) Your full name and address.

2.) Your private / official telephone and fax number.

Awaiting your positive response via my private email: millerjoseph@walla.com
And you can reach me on my private telephone.00229-9-5713752

Dear Faust,

I'm in a bit of a pickle. There's a Drowning Pool concert comming up and there's two girls I want to take. I can't decide which to ask Rolling Eyes . Even though I don't like Drowning Pool that much I'm going for the hell of it(my first concert EVER lol). One of the girls is almost deffinate to say yes, but I don't like her quiet as much as the other. The other I have liked a long time and she knows that. She would probably turn me down. The one that would probably turn me down and that I like more is probably switching to a different school at Christmas. What should I do? (Please give me a partialy seriouse response. And don't ask why this isn't in the girl troubles thread.) Thanks in advance.

Something that has VERY good fret acces, somewhat cheap(pricewise), and good tone (BTW I don't mind if it's the most rediculous, beet up, ugliest pile-o-s#%t you've ever seen, as long as it works well and meets all the other requirements.) MXR Dimedistortion REVIEW
by Anonymous on Fri Nov 04, 2005 10:23 am
I bough one of these from fleabay.
They advertise that you get the "DIME SOUND" with it. Of course I am experienced enough to know a single stompbox wouldnt do it, but I was still counting on some good DISTORTION.
What you get is Overdrive and not Distortion.
Believe me, you can get a better Zakk sound with this one that with the MXR Zakk Overdrive.

Very disapointing... very poor crunch, and no heavy/trashy distortion.

Works well as an overdrive though...

Just my op...

Just wanted to publicly thank Eddie at Carlino Guitars. I purchased a Damage Control Demonizer pedal from him, and a custom b/w strap to go with my Schenker V.

Eddie was great: friendly, informative about the Demonizer. I appreciated his advice and thoughts.

Order came on time, in great shape.

Kudos to you, Eddie!

I must also talk about the Demonizer pedal. My friends, this pedal is the shiznit. I'm getting the best direct recorded sound I've EVER had. Bye bye, PodxT -- hello Demonizer. More about this later...

Again, thanks to Eddie Carlino for his help!

Pickups
by Hrafn on Sat Nov 05, 2005 2:04 pm
I'm looking the replace the EMG HZ pickups I have in my guitar, and I'm in the market for a new bridge pickup. At the moment I'm looking into both a DiMarzio X2N and a Duncan Distortion (at the moment they're both around the same price and it's all I can afford right now). I play Metal and I'm going for a trebly sound but with some low end chunk, and I need a pickup with good harmonics.
Can anyone advise me what would be better for me to buy?

Dean's Western omelet sandwich:

2 eggs
some milk
fresh cut ham
onions(optional)
touch of salt & pepper
parsley
cheddar

Fry in skillet with a bit of margaine or butter, throw it all on toast
and add some real mayo.

Dear lord that's yummy! So simple but oh so good. Laughing

I picked this up at the pawn shop today. It's not like any Dean Bolt on I've had before. The binding and block inlays are pretty cool, The big frets are VERY cool. It has the smaller headstock like the selects too.

So what is it? Chinese? I can't find any markings on it.

Thanks for any help!

Alnico Pro II Bridge vs Custom Custom Bridge
by safeman on Mon Nov 07, 2005 1:43 am
Ive decided on the APH Neck pickup and have narrowed my bridge decision to these two.
I want a smooth "liquidy" tone in the style of slash, early petrucci, mordern santana, and warren haynes.
I only really use my bridge pickup for leads, distorted rhythms, and slide playing.
I like a really smooth middy tone.
I want to know which of these pickups would accomplish this better, and if they match output well.

They also had a meet and great after the show. I meet all three of them Dug the singer was in a bad mood, nice to me others he wasn't. Jerry there drummer was ok. Ty Tabor there guitarist and one of my favorite guitarist ever was so very very nice. He said he wished he had more time to talk. Over all it was another great King's X experience. Cool

Chuck Norris = Badass Mother...
by DimebagDemmel on Tue Nov 08, 2005 12:57 am
Someone posted this at the Machine Head site, figured I'd share

Chuck Norris = badass motherf@#$%

1. Chuck Norris' tears cure cancer. Too bad he has never cried.

2. Chuck Norris built a time machine and went back in time to stop the JFK assassination. As Oswald shot, Chuck met all three bullets with his beard, deflecting them. JFK's head exploded out of sheer amazement.

3. Chuck Norris recently had the idea to sell his urine as a canned beverage. We know this beverage as Red Bull.

4. Rather than being birthed like a normal child, Chuck Norris instead decided to punch his way out of his mother's womb. Shortly thereafter he grew a beard.

5. Chuck Norris lives by only one rule: No Asian Chicks.

6. Takeru Kobayashi ate 50 and a half hotdogs in 12 minutes. Chuck Norris ate 12 asian babies in 50 and a half minutes. Chuck Norris won.

7. The original theme song to the Transformers was actually "Chuck Norris--more than meets the eye, Chuck Norris--robot in disguise," and starred Chuck Norris as a Texas Ranger who defended the earth from drug-dealing Decepticons and could turn into a pick-up. This was far too much awesome for a single show, however, so it was divided.

8. Chuck Norris was the fourth Wiseman. He brought baby Jesus the gift of "beard". Jesus wore it proudly to his dying day. The other Wisemen, jealous of Jesus' obvious gift favoritism, used their combined influence to have Chuck omitted from the Bible. Shortly after all three died of roundhouse kick related deaths.

9. Chuck Norris's girlfriend once asked him how much wood a woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood. He then shouted, "HOW DARE YOU RHYME IN THE PRESENCE OF CHUCK NORRIS!" and ripped out her throat. Holding his girlfriend's bloody throat in his hand he bellowed, "Don't gar with Chuck!" Two years and five months later he realized the irony of this statement and laughed so hard that anyone within a hundred mile radius of the blast went deaf.

10. To prove it isn't that big of a deal to beat cancer. Chuck Norris smoked 15 cartons of cigarettes a day for 2 years and aquired 7 different kinds of cancer only to rid them from his body by flexing for 30 minutes. Beat that, Lance Armstrong.

11. Chuck Norris once shot a German plane down with his finger, by yelling, "Bang!"

12. When Chuck Norris's wife burned the turkey one Thanksgiving, Chuck said, "Don't worry about it honey," and went into his backyard. He came back five minutes later with a live turkey, ate it whole, and when he threw it up a few seconds later it was fully cooked and came with cranberry sauce. When his wife asked him how he had done it, he gave her a roundhouse kick to the face and said, "Never question Chuck Norris."

13. Chuck Norris frequently signs up for beginner karate classes, just so he can "accidentally" beat the s#%t out of little kids.

14. Chuck Norris took my virginity, and he will sure as hell take yours. If you're thinking to yourself, "That's impossible, I already lost my virginity.", then you are dead wrong.

15. Chuck Norris can make a woman climax by simply pointing at her and saying "booya".

16. Little Miss Muffet sat on her tuffet, until Chuck Norris roundhouse kicked her into a glacier.

17. When Chuck Norris plays Oregon Trail his family does not die from cholera or dysentery, but rather roundhouse kicks to the face. He also requires no wagon, since he carries the oxen, axels, and buffalo meat on his back. He always makes it to Oregon before you.

18. In one episode of Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Chuck Norris replaced Carlton for one scene and nobody noticed.

19. Chuck Norris sold his soul to the devil for his rugged good looks and unparalleled martial arts ability. Shortly after the transaction was finalized, Chuck roundhouse kicked the devil in the face and took his soul back. The devil, who appreciates irony, couldn't stay mad and admitted he should have seen it coming. They now play poker every second Wednesday of the month.

20. Chuck Norris does not sleep. He waits.

21. Chuck Norris punched a woman in the vagina when she didn't give him exact change.

22. Chuck Norris has every copy of National Geographic in his basement. He also has the ability to lift every single one of them at once.

23. Chuck Norris ruins the endings of Harry Potter books for children who just bought one for the hell of it. When they start crying Chuck Norris calmly says, "I'll give you something to cry about," and roundhouse kicks them in the face.

24. Chuck Norris found out about Conan O'Brien's lever that shows clips from "Walker: Texas Ranger" and is working on a way to make it show clips of Norris having grox with Conan's wife.

25. Chuck Norris once tried to sue Burger King after they refused to put razor wire in his Whopper Jr., insisting that that actually is "his" way.

26. Chuck Norris once went to a frat party, and proceeded to roundhouse every popped collar in sight. He then drank three kegs and s#%t on their floor, just because he's Chuck Norris.

27. At the end of each week, Chuck Norris murders a dozen white people just to prove he isn't a racist.

28. Chuck Norris doesn't have normal white blood cells like you and I. His have a small black ring around them. This signifies that they are black belts in every form of martial arts and they roundhouse kick the s#%t out of viruses. That's why Chuck Norris never gets ill.

29. If you can see Chuck Norris, he can see you. If you can't see Chuck Norris you may be only seconds away from death.

30. The chief export of Chuck Norris is pain.

31. Instead of seeking immediate medical attention, Chuck Norris merely roundhoused his own dick after a sustained four-hour erection.
Say it isn't so Zakk.

My Keyboardist just told me that he set up a myspace page for the band and put a couple of rough tracks up. I really wish he hadn't as I am a stickler for 'perfection'. Anyway, I cannot see the songs he put up as that type of stuff is blocked at here at work. He told me that he called one of the songs Balloon Knot (Shocked) something or other and I cannot tell if he is pulling my leg or not! If he is serious I am going to friggin' kill him. Could someone please go there for me and tell me what the songs are called?

And no, this isn't a cheesy attempt at self promotion, I told him not to do stuff like this without checking with me first. Evil or Very Mad

He won't give me the username or password either until I go over to his house tonight!

Thank you.

Problems with bank policies...
by sepsis311 on Wed Nov 09, 2005 5:08 pm
Last night i was at a bar, and needed cash, so i walked across the street to the bank to use the atm. I got the money out and went about my night. The next morning i realized i didnt have my atm card, i left it at the atm. I went to the bank, and ask them for it. They said i could not have it, that they have to destroy cards that are left in the machines.
I explained that i could provide my licence, college id, ss #, another credit card, vehicle registration registered to the car i drove to get there, medical insurance card. She still wouldn't do it. She said it's bank policy. Is this woman full of it? Or does this policy sound legit?

Metal Council Convenes To Discuss 'Metal Hand Sign' Abuse
November 9, 2005 | Issue 41•45

VATNAJÖKULL GLACIER, ICELAND—In an emergency session Tuesday, members of the Supreme Metal Council strongly condemned the increasing use of the metal hand sign in lay society, claiming that its meaning has become perverted by overuse.

"The metal sign, or 'sign of the goat,' has all but lost its impact as a token of respectful recognition for something truly 'rocking' or 'metal,'" SMC president Terence "Geezer" Butler said. According to Butler, members are upset that their sacred gesture is being used to acknowledge and celebrate "favorable but clearly non-metal events."

"We have all heard the reports of people using it to greet their in-laws, or after starting their lawn mowers with a single pull," Butler said. "But recently it was brought to our attention that someone used the gesture in a Texas convenience store after snagging the last box of carrot cakes. This simply won't do."

If You See One - Please Let Me Know!!!
by DizzyDean on Thu Nov 10, 2005 8:01 pm
I know it's not a Dean, but occassionaly you have to get something else!! I'm looking for an older Gibson ES335. It has to have ALL of these things:

Cherry Finish - but not the dark one
Kluson Pearloid Tuners
Block Inlays
A Bigsby - (slight edit here - for the time being, I want a Bigs)
60's slim tapered neck

And - it's got to be in really nice shape - no major scuffs, no repaired breaks, fairly white binding. I know I'm being picky, but I'll wait until I get the perfect one! Something around the 3K mark price wise. That will prbably put me in the 70's vintage somewhere.

Here is a pic of the perfect one....problem with this one is it's a 1964 and they want $15,000 for it.

Image

I've seen a couple out there, there's a 76 on Ebay right now. But for one reason or another, none have been perfect. This one on Ebay - the binding has just gone too yellow and the color is just a shade to dark.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7364937731&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

So, if someone see's one that looks like the 64 above, but is priced like the 76, please let me know!!!

Gig in Bulgaria

6 hour train ride to Thesonoliki Greece

Bus to next terminal

Flight to Crete

Gig starts in 35 minutes, rush to gig, go from taxi to stage

Play 90 minutes

Rush to airport to catch Athens flight leaving in an hour (time spent in Crete = around 2.5 hours total)

Get to Athens and airport goes on strike!!!!! Flight canceled

Scramble to get flights once strike is lifted.

I'm now in London, waiting for the morning so I can hook up a Colorado flight.

Lest We Forget................
by DizzyDean on Fri Nov 11, 2005 4:16 pm
In Canada, today is Rememberance Day. The 11th Hour, of the 11th Day, of the 11th month. The day and time the armistace to end WWI was signed.

Observed around the world as Rememberance Day, Armistice Day, and I think - Veterans Day in the US.

To all who served, are serving and will serve. Thank You. You and your sacrifices are not forgotten.

Take a moment today to pause and reflect on just how good we have it because of all those who laid down thier lives for our freedoms.

Great Acoustic show Philly Sunday Larry Coryell + Badi Assad
by RC99 on Sat Nov 12, 2005 2:23 am
Any one anywhere near Philly .. and want to see some killer acoustic guitar playing. Larry Coryell is playing with Badi Assad and John Abercrombie at the World Café in Philadelphia on this Sunday the 13th.

http://www.theworldcafe.com/

http://www.worldcafelive.com/

If you haven’t heard him - Larry was one of the primary inventors of Jazz Rock Fusion in 1966 and, along w John McLaughlin – they were to 2 top shredders electric or acoustic from late 60’s into the 70’s on rock, jazz, flamenco, Indian, you name it. Those two were the few westerners to successfully enter the Indian music realm in the 70’s and have the necessary monster technique to play with the masters over there. Larry is one of those Vai type freaks – he transposes Stravinsky compositions to the acoustic guitar, and then jams on it and makes it sound soulful! No matter what the music – Larry plays it with balls to spare!

Here’s a review :
http://blogcritics.org/archives/2005/09/22/110710.php

sounds pretty awesome.. I'm pumped to go!

on Larry :
http://www.larrycoryell.net/news.php
http://www.kiosek.com/coryell/

I wish Abercrombie was not coming – he made two great albums with Jan Hammer way back and then his balls fell off and he started playing boring chamber jazz for the wine and cheese set. He’s good for insomnia though! Oh – sorry to the wine and cheese guys here! He’s good for that . Him and Ottmar Leibert.

Badi – she’s a force of nature – she is the younger sister of the Assad brothers – Sergio and Odair - two of the top classical guitarists. She sings, chants Brazilian/raga mixtures, makes all kinds of percusision and jungle sounds with her whole body, dances, and plays classically trained improv guitar simultaneously and does all percussion instruments w her feet at one woman shows.
God decided .. let’s take a classical guitar master like a Romero brother.. make her a woman … let her sing as beautifully as Flora Purim, give her world class percussion and dance skills, and the stage act of a Cirque du Soleil person… and she’s movie star beautiful. Was that by chance or some kind of “”Intelligent Design” ?

Who cares - Works for me!

some bio :
http://www.aviv2.com/badi/

her site is WAY cool :
http://www.badiassad.com.br/

VERY creative site and an amazing person. There are good pix in the part that says Dining room – could not copy any – sorry – but worth a look… OK – she’s hot as hell! Shocked Shocked

I’d like to meet her, but I will NOT shake her hand

or I’ll turn into that Rob Schneider “Orgasm Guy” !! Laughing Laughing

Your biggest regret
by Brave Dave on Sat Nov 12, 2005 5:41 am
We all look back at some point and wish we had said or done something during a particular point in our life. I can't complain..I've got everything a guy could want. But I sure do regret not asking to jam with Dimebag on some KISS tunes when they played here last year. I really wanted to ask him if I could join him onstage after the show was over. I know he would have done it.

What's your biggest regret?

EMG Voltage mod
by JammerML on Sun Nov 13, 2005 4:50 am
did some experimenting tonight with my EMG loaded MLX. decided to mod it up to 18 volts. after giving this some thought, I wanted to be able to do this without modifying my existing circuitry, and came up with a nifty little way of doing it. I took 3 9-volt battery connectors, and soldered them as in the diagram below.
Image

now I am able to simply plug the harness with the batteries into the existing 9-volt connector already in the circuit....works like a champ!!!

Now the good stuff.....

IF You have EMG ACtive pickups for the high gain sounds they can produce, you've not heard anything yet!!!! This has really improved my output, and my HArmonics ring very clear and loud now. The clean sounds much better now too...not that I use it much. basically form what I can tell, it has improved headroom dramatically, and make the higher register much more clear, and precise. VOLUME AND GAIN ARE WAAAAYYYY UP AFTER THIS MOD!!!

You can mod EMG's active pickups up to 27 volts safely, but on an ML, you can't do this, unless you start cutting the wood, as the most you can fit in the control cavity is two batteries. I am seriously considering cutting in a battery door for a third battery.

anyway, if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Why/when did you start playing guitar?
by TheOnlyFactor on Sun Nov 13, 2005 5:54 am
I started sometime in '95. I was all about Nirvana and all that alternative crap, and this girl I was really into played guitar, so I figured if I played guitar she'd like me. I was also starting to get into Sabbath and Maiden and GOOD bands at the time too. As soon as I started taking lessions I was like "Teach me every single Black Sabbath song RIGHT NOW!!" I was/am into Iommi's playing so much. So I never learned any Nirvana/Offspring/Hole/Green Day songs. Kinda funny.
The girl...she's a lesbian now. HA Laughing We're still really close though.

I also lucked out on being able to play cuz my dad took trumpet lessons when he was a kid and he was tone def as hell. His teacher straight up told him to give up.

Anyways, I have to write an essay from anything in the book, and in the last chapter she works at Wal-Mart.

So i decided to write my essay over Wal-Mart the evil empire . What makes it worse is that Wal-mart is almost a nessisary evil.

There are also two movies coming out , one against wal-mart and one for it .

I am writing the essay now but i had to take a break. Very Happy
to oil or not to oil...
by Dusty Rhodes on Mon Nov 14, 2005 4:47 am
So what is so complicated or secret about knowing what to use (or not to use) on rosewood and ebony fretboards? I have Googled the subject and get a different opion from every site I visit. I thought lemon oil was the prefered methond until someone said that it is nothing more than petroleum distillates which can actually dry out a fretboard. One says to use linseed oil while another uses Olive Oil!! Some say use nothing. I keep the humidity in my cases around 40%. Is this enough? What's the real story if there is one. Please advise...
What style do you play?
by Hot Sauce on Mon Nov 14, 2005 6:28 am
What style of guitar playing do you aim at?

I try to after a Kerry King, Yngwie Malmsteen, Zakk Wylde, classical type style.

I like to sit and listen to classical music and pick it out on my guitar. It helps me alot musically and it relaxes me. That's why I enjoy it.

DOA V is incredible live
by Jag Panzer on Mon Nov 14, 2005 6:23 pm
The DOA V really held it's own in the live setting.

Looks - Everything thought it was a $2,000 guitar. Even guys basically familar with Deans swore it was a Time Capsule. Non guitarists just commented on how great it looked.

Playability - Great balance! I like to forget about holding a guitar and worry about just playing it. But I need a really well balanced guitar to do this. The DOA V was actually better then my '79 V for this.

Durability - 7 plane flights plus various buses and trains. All in the stock case. And I tossed the guitar around onstage several times. No problems at all. Stayed in tune everytime too!

Sound - The stock pups sound pretty good. Not as good as my Bare Knuckle Caddy (as a few soundmen pointed out) but still very good.

BIG THUMBS UP FOR THIS GUITAR!!!!!

ML neck vs FBD neck vs MLF neck
by Rockingcanuck on Mon Nov 14, 2005 7:38 pm
HI guys, I have a ML '79 (love it) and the neck on that thing is just PERFECT for me. I usually dont notice the neck (big, small I don't care). But the neck on the ML is something else (for me anyway). My problem is that I keep reaching for the arm (FLoyd) and no Arm.
So I am thinking of getting a MLF or FBD or even a 2 tone razorback(drooll). I am just wondering if anybody has 2 of those guitars and could give me his/her opinion on how the necks compare to each others.

Thanks

Cool Mods RI Braziliaburst
by Anonymous on Tue Nov 15, 2005 12:53 am
Hey there,
I have been working on some upgrades for my favorite guitars and figured I would share with the group. I'll post more as they're done, first completed is my beloved RI Braziliaburst ML. It's hard to make this great guitar better, but a little charm never hurt. She now sports a Schaller 452 roller bridge, (awesome!) Q-Parts knobs, Grover locking tuners, and custom paua truss rod cover. My wife and I make those by the way, we use real shell. You’ll be seeing the more of those with the upcoming projects.

I recently broke the new parts in during a harsh metal session in a friend's studio. I even let him shred a bit (don't usually do that but his eyes lit up when he saw her. TAKE THAT GIB-SON!) The performance of this guitar is nothing short of amazing. It's totally stable and smooth. Thanks everyone for looking,

How many men does it take to open a beer?
None. It should be opened by the time she brings it.

Why is a Laundromat a really bad place to pick up a woman?

Because a woman who can't even afford a washing machine will probably never be able to support you.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Why do women have smaller feet than men?
It's one of those "evolutionary things" that allows them to stand closer to the kitchen sink.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
How do you know when a woman is about to say something smart?
When she starts her sentence with "A man once told me..."
-------------------------------------------------------------------
How do you fix a woman's watch?
You don't. There is a clock on the oven.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Why do men break wind more than women?
Because women can't #$%@ up long enough to build up the required pressure.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
If your dog is barking at the back door and your wife is yelling at the front door, who do you let in first?
The dog, of course. He'll #$%@ up once you let him in.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
What's worse than a Male Chauvinist Pig?
A woman who won't do what she's told.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I married Miss Right. I just didn't know her first name was Always.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Scientists have discovered a food that diminishes a woman's grox drive by 90%. It's called a Wedding Cake.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Why do men die before their wives?
They want to.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down the street with a bald head and a beer gut, and still think they are sexy.

In the beginning, God created the earth and rested.
Then God created Man and rested.
Then God created Woman.
Since then, neither God nor Man has rested.

I have a quick question hopefully someone has some advice.

I have my p90 z coming in this Friday or ealy next week. And its been getting pretty cold here and I probably won't be here when the UPS guy gets here.

So since it may be sitting out in my porch for a quite a few hours since I'll be at work. So when i get it I heard you should leave it in the case over night and let it slowly warm up so you don't mess up anything. Or can I open it right up like a little kid at Christmas.

Two friends, a blonde and a brunette, are walking down the street and pass a flower shop where the brunette happens to see her boyfriend buying flowers.

She sighs and says, "Oh crap, my boyfriend is buying me flowers again...for no reason." The blonde looks quizzically at her and says, "What's the big deal, don't you like getting flowers?"

The brunette says, "Oh sure... but he always has expectations after getting me flowers, and I just don't feel like spending the next three days on my back with my legs in the air."

The blonde says, ....."Don't you have a vase?"

I met a dude that wants to sell me a guitar that apparently has been sitting around for a very long while. It's a Dean that has the "dime shaped" body if that makes any sense; the one that points in 3 different directions and "star-like". Pardon me for not knowing the correct term for that style. It has 24 frets, is a blue burst type color. The guy says it's from 1985. The serial # on the back of the headstock is: 416963 . If anyone can shed some light on what this is, I'd greatly appreciate it.
New Agile project finished
by Mike9 on Wed Nov 16, 2005 10:26 pm
I'm getting to like these they are very well made and I love the set maple neck in the mahogany body. OK I picked this up after selling my Agile swamp ash LP that I did a complete number on. This one got the full treatment - neck shaved to a new profile, fret job, locking bridge and tailpiece, Grover lockers and of course new pickups - Jeff Beck/Burny VH1 combo and set up with EB Hybrids. I used a 300k pot for the JB to balance it out with the VH1 - sounds great!!!

Here's the back of the guitar before work began.
Image

Here's it is stripped down.
Image

Taped off and work in progress.

Here's the shaved neck waiting for the lemon oil/spar urathane finish - several thin coats rubbed in and buffed to a glassy smooth feel.

Just got a couple Dean tshirts (Dean Wings and Dime Tribute crest) and the Dime tribute hoodie a couple days ago.
It's a good thing to walk around with my wings always on me.

Ok this was a slighty stupid post, but I seem to be addicted to Deans now and I need to let everyone know. I cant see myself ever owning another brand now.

Help - Which Acoustic-Electric for an 11 year old?
by Dan Schlosser on Thu Nov 17, 2005 1:40 pm
Long time reader, first time poster..............

Our older son who just turned 11 is interested in getting a full-sized acoustic-electric. He already owns a semi-hollow body Dean Boca and his younger brother has a Dean Evo Roadster. Needless to say they both love their Deans and when the idea came up of getting another guitar the first thing htey did was hit the Dean website.

Andy is an averaged sized kid for his age so the full size isn't a big deal but a slightly smaller and thinner body may be easier for him to manage for now.

He mostly plays at home or at lessons but they do have a band as well that they do 'Rock School" shows with.

The Performer Denim caught his eye initially but the Exotica also looked like a good option. The Evocoustic looked like it might be a good option to me but I couldn't find much feedback anywhere on them. I was a bit confused by the reviews of the Performer and denim as well. Reviews indicated a plywood or laminate construction while the Dean specs seem to show maple, spruce, mahogany, etc. Which is it?

Any opinions or help would be greatly appreciated!

The New Cars
by jim6 on Thu Nov 17, 2005 10:32 pm
Got an email a day or two ago from my brother with the following snippet of news and was wondering if anyone else had heard anything about this...........

THE NEW CARS ROLL OFF THE ASSEMBLY LINE:
And The New Cars are officially born. This was confirmed in a recent e-mail from Kasim Sulton to his mailing list. It reads:
"I guess it's safe to tell you all about the 'big announcement' now as most of you have put two and two together. I've accepted a position as the Bassist for a new incarnation of an old band ... The Cars! Currently being billed as "The New Cars". I know most of you are aware that Todd Rundgren has also signed on as the lead singer. Pretty cool huh? We've already recorded some new songs and are scheduled to be touring all next year (2006).
The line up is as follows, Todd, myself, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawks and Prairie Prince. We're planning to record a live CD/DVD sometime after the new year and a possible TV appearance before Christmas. So, thats what I've been alluding to for the past month or so and I'm really excited to be involved in this new project with a great bunch of guys. I'm sure we'll be doing shows near you and this is one show you really don't want to miss. I mean come on ... Todd and ME? Playing Cars songs? Hee hee!!!! It'll be like hearing them for the first time!
As soon as the publicity shots from the photo session we did are approved, I'll be putting them up here - www.KasimSulton.com."
The full line-up is: Todd Rundgren vocals, guitar; Kasim Sulton bass, vocals; Elliot Easton guitar, vocals; Greg Hawkes keyboards, vocals; Prairie Prince drums.
All I can do is laugh.

Christmas Carol Books For Guitar...Help!!!
by JACKHOLE on Fri Nov 18, 2005 1:05 am
Could someone here recommend a book of Christmas Carols arranged for guitar in tabulature. We're going to my Mother in law's house for Christmas, and I'll be taking my acoustic.I don't think she'd dig me playing"Cemetary Gates" at a family gathering.I looked around on the 'net, but none of the books with tab have ratings. Last year my wife bought me bunch of songbooks, but they are all in standar notation with just the chords. If any of y'all could steer me in the right direction,I'd appreciate it.

I'm trying to attach some photos to show but am having some problems. I made sure to make them 1.5mb. Do I attach these in the Upload Photos area? I tried that but nothing is happening after I go through the process of browsing, finding my file and opening. The uploading bars at the bottom max out and then just stay that way... I've got dial up. Is that my problem? If I do get them uploaded hot do I attach them to a "new topic"? I think I'm making WAY too much out of this. (like everything) Please advise...

Finger Spasms
by sepsis311 on Fri Nov 18, 2005 4:13 pm
Ok, so recently I was given a 90's US Lone Star Strat as a gift. Being mostly an ibanez/dean/gibson guitar player, the whole strat thing was new to me. Well, i must say this strat kicks ass and addresses every issue i've ever had with any "normal" strat, humbucker in bridge, hotter middle/neck pups, and a cool ass color scheme, with a nice body wood and well made bridge.

Anyway, I havn't been able to put this thing down, except for when i have to go to work. As I sit here at this cubical, my hand resting on my desk, my fingers start moving on their own, just like if they were on a fretboard. I dont mean, it literally looks like im playing, but my fingers are "jolting" foward now and then. I think it's becasue i've been playing non-stop, and my tendons are used to the movement? Sorta like when you get off a cruise ship, you still feel like your on one the rest of the day. Anyone else ever had this happen?
The Missing Bullseye
by ML Tib on Fri Nov 18, 2005 6:20 pm
I had the pleasure of talking to Elliott yesterday. I told him I'd like to see this guitar happen. Though with Zakk's indecisivness it surely won't happen with his trademark Bullseye. (Like i really care, the damn guitar IMHO is RAD!) If we can get enough positive answers, maybe he will add it to the Dean Line next year, with different finishes. Cmon you guys, here's our chance to get something done.

Amps
by Hrafn on Sat Nov 19, 2005 1:39 am
At the moment all I have is a crappy Marshall MG15 DFX and I'm starting to play in a band, so rather than buy a new guitar or change the pickups (since my guitar is pretty damn good) I'm thinking of getting a new amp.

http://www.thomann.de/thoiw6_behringer_vampire_lx1112_modeling_gitarrenverstaerker_prodinfo.html

I like the look of this amp, and for 233 Euro (+20 for postage) I think a 60 watt amp is pretty good.

Does anyone know what they're like?

Aeroheads UNITE!!!!! Columbus, Ohio...Photos added..
by BTMN on Sat Nov 19, 2005 3:12 am
Ya remember The Greatful Dead had the Deadheads right? Well, I consider myself an Aerohead, meaning I'm headed out to see one of America's greatest rockers. I know they have their naysayers but I'm not listenin' to their lip service on this. I'm going to cut loose and have some fun. I'm headed to my hometown , Columbus, Ohio. I saw Aerosmith there September 20, 1975 the first time, and I'm seeing my 50th show 30 years and 2 months to the day in the same town. I'm taking my brother. We haven't seen a show together since The Osmonds Razz at the Ohio State Fair in '74. Saw Bo Donaldson and The Heywoods that same week with The Bay City Rollers. Shocked I remember the Strat and the Orange amp the guy in the BCRs had. Great sound even if it was bubble gum.

Aerosmith with Lenny Kravitz should be excellant on Sunday. I'm hoping for good photo ops on Sunday. I have 12th row center thanks to Aeroforce 1 the fan club.

Patience
by ryandante on Sat Nov 19, 2005 6:35 pm
Ok I guess I am really starting to lack that. I don't know if anybody is in the same boat as me or If they've been waiting even longer.

I just wonder I paid for a guitar in full and was told I'd wait about 10 days so the excitement starts. (Note this isn't complaining about the dealer his hands are tied)

As it stands I was guessing the guitar was gonna arrive yesterday. I hurried up and drove home from work and nothing.

Now I figure I'd maybe contact the dealer that is getting me it to see if he has a tracking number. Then to really brighten up the day, I'm told that Dean hasn't even sent it out.

I guess my big question is the guitar is there, the money is paid, so where the hell is the hold up.

Sorry if I sound like an ass but like I said I've been waiting till May and now they aren't shipping it off once its paid for.

The Album that Changed Your Life
by Anonymous on Sat Nov 19, 2005 10:00 pm
This was the topic of a recent Guitar World Magazine. Let's hear it.

I would have to say Lateralus by Tool. The album's so trippy, it takes you on a journey almost. The weird rhythms are so complex yet so subtle and you can do nothing but sit there and wonder how the hell they're playing what they're playing. And who doesn't love a band that sounds like Led Zeppelin, King Krimson, and Pink Floyd had a huge threesome?! Okay so a lot of people, but I sure do love this album.

Lenny Kravitz / Aerosmith - Toronto Show Nov 18
by DizzyDean on Sun Nov 20, 2005 4:32 pm
The tour rolled through friday night and Patty and I went down to have a listen!

Lenny Kravitz was nothing short of amazing! He rocked the house and in my opinion stole the show! That boy has more energy on stage that just about anyone I've seen. His band was phenominal! They were tight and never missed a note! Lenny had the crowd up by the second song, and we never sat down again! An AMAZING show by Lenny!

Aerosmith came on and did an admirale job. Tyler still has the voice!! The boy can sing! He certainly wasn't as high energy as he has been in the past though, there where quite a few times he appeared to be just going through the motions. Joe Perry was great, BUT, I did hear a number of mistakes from him and the rest of the band, something that never happened during Lenny's set. Also, I found it strange that Joe never played a Boneyard LP. He played lots of LP's, but no boneyard! For the most part, he played his ES335 with his wife's face airbrushed on it.

Aerosmith had the audience in the palm of thier hands for the first half of the show playing hit after hit. Everyone knew the songs and was having a great time. The whole arena was up dancing and singing. About half way through the set, Joe Perry did a song from his new solo album - Shakin My Cage. No sooner did he start, than the audience sat down, never to stand again until the encore. No one knows that tune, and quite frankly, no one came to hear Joe Perry's solo stuff. This was a definitely turning point in the evening. from this point forward, I knew one song (Back In The Saddle, during the encore). Now, I realize when you go to a show, the band is going to play some material that if you aren't a die hard fan, your not going to recognize. BUT, mix it up boys! Don't come out and play hit after hit that whips the crowd into a frenzy, then burst our bubble and leave us sitting the rest of the show. I'm sure a die hard fan would be just fine cause they will know every song they play. I on the other hand, and the majority of the other 20,000 in attendance (which the boys were quick to point out was the biggest show so far this tour), aren't die hard fans! We know a lot of stuff - but not everything. So mix it up!! Play some obscure stuff, then get us going with a big hit. or, start with the obscure stuff, then take us home with the big hits so we leave in a great mood! It was strange to see everyone up and dancing for the first half of the show, then, seated and bored for the second half. You could really tell people lost interest. For instance, replace one of those unknown songs with "Love In An Elevator" (Which they never played).

It was interesting listening to the comments on the way out of the show. Everone said Lenny rocked the house and was amazing. As for Aerosmith, most people were saying "they were OK". I'm sure if you'd asked them, and me, about 45 minutes into the show - we all would have said "they are freaking amazing". The typical comment was "Yeah, Aerosmith was pretty good, but did you see Lenny Kravitz - he was freakin awesome"!!

Unfortunately, for this guy - Aerosmith bored the heck out of me for the second half of the show and left me feeling that I won't be back to see them next time they come to town........that is........unless Lenny is with them! I won't EVER miss a Lenny Kravitz show again!!!!!

Alright, I saw the wizard of oz in sync with dark side of the moon. when I first heard about it (years ago) I was very skeptical and figured you had to be stoned or tripping on shrooms to notice it. well I played the CD on the 3rd roar of the lion (production company lion) and from then on I was dumbfounded. I am too lazy to go into detail about it but it was remarkable the s#%t that happened. You HAVE to watch it. and on another note, what does phil's tattoo on his neck "ATR" stand for?

I am thinking about getting a POD XT LIVE.The last couple gigs I've had noise problems with my tube amp.I'm sure you guys know how it is....noise from neon signs, plugging into the same spot a refrigerator is on,no ground in the outlet etc.I also started using a H&K Red Box to go diredt out of my tube preamp.I've gotten used to the convenience of not miking.I looked into a Rocktron Hush and a power conditioner/line filter and by the time I buy those(and carry around even more gear) I could buy the POD.Anyone out there own one or have used one? Thanks.

    Need a pal for my L500L !
    by I M Evil on Mon Nov 21, 2005 3:53 pm
Payday is only 3 days away and I need to spend some dough Laughing

I'm almost certain about a PODxt, but besides that,
I'm wondering about a partner(neck pickup) for my
L500L I got cheap like a month ago.

I want something with output that can match it,
but I also want something smooth and clean.

I think I've narrowed it down to a DiMarzio PAF Pro
or a DiMarzio Humbucker from hell.

What do you guys think ?
Ebay never ceases to amaze me
by harley on Mon Nov 21, 2005 6:05 pm
I took a used and slightly abused baby V apart and listed all its parts on the 'bay. Figured I'd get more for the parts than for the whole guitar.

Well most parts went pretty cheap except for the neck

Some kid paid $83 and change for it Shocked

No feedback but he did call this morning to get the address to mail a money order to.

Still can't beleive it went for that kind of money. I don't think I could have gotten that for the whole guitar.

by Faust on Tue Nov 22, 2005 12:29 am
This is the largest earth mover in the world..... built by the German company, Krupp, and seen here crossing a federal highway in Germany en route to its destination (an open-pit coal mine). It is cheaper to move the thing like this, than to construct or reassemble onsite.

    Image
    Image
    Image
    Image

    Specifications:
~ The mover stands 311 feet tall and 705 feet long.
~ It weighs over 45,500 tons
    ~Cost $100 million to build
~ Took 5 years to design and manufacture
    ~ 5 years to assemble.
~ Requires 5 people to operate it.
~The Bucket Wheel is over 70 feet in diameter with 20 buckets,
each of which can hold over 530 cubic feet of material.
~ A 6-foot man can stand up inside one of the buckets.
~ It moves on 12 crawlers (each is 12 feet wide, 8' high and 46 feet long). There are 8 crawlers in front and 4 in back. It has a maximum speed of 1 mile in 3 hours (1/3 mile/hour).
~It can remove over 76,455 cubic meters each day.
(100,000 large dump trucks at 40yds. each)

"WHOA" I thought "Krank". Then I saw 2 Krank head on top of it. One of which looked a lot like a Krankenstein.

Where to start? Two great kids. Relatively good health, although my knee's been killing me for months now. Good (although low paying) job with a very decent boss and coworkers. A good woman that loves me more than anyone should. To be honest I'm a VERY simple man that needs very little to be happy, so I tend to concentrate on the smaller things in life like walks and good books and just being able to get out of bed each morning. Everything else is gravy. Mmmmm gravy. Smile

    This includes

    1) Everything about circutry
    2) Everything about fixin stuff
    3) Including amps

I got myself in a pickle, i said i can fix guitars but i only know basic stuff like routing for pickups and how to solder.

Especialy amps and advanced circuit boards you know.

Until now NO feedback from Dean (questions@deanguitars.com) and Mick. I checked with my reseller, they don't know what's going on. I even contacted Brian Bromberg himself... nothing happens. This is the worst communication ever. Today I will make the final attempt. If it doesn't work, bye, bye Dean!

    More Amp Stuff
by Hrafn on Thu Nov 24, 2005 11:44 pm
I'm sorry guys for making all these topics, I'm just not sure of what to do with amps and stuff.

Basically I'm looking for a decent half stack amp for my next purchase and this one seems ideal:
    http://www.thomann.de/thoiw6_artikel-183800.html

Would anyone be able to tell me how this half-stack would compare to my MG15DFX? The amp doesn't need to have really really good tone as my pedal gives me a great distorted sound and I like Line6 as is...so should I save up for it? (I need a new amp within 5-6 months and that's all I can afford)

Thing is I can't afford (and right now am not looking for) professional level amps, seeing as I don't really want professional level tone since I won't be able to use it.

I'm just wondering if anyone else can reccomend a decent half stack for under $650 like the one above.

    by Mike9 on Fri Nov 25, 2005 1:13 pm
I'm not a big country fan, but my son likes it so he and I watched them. They held them in New York City this year and I was not impressed with the production end of things. The mixing was terrible - who ever was running the board should be fired!!! And when when Alabama was being inducted into the Hall of Fame they cut them off and went to some list of radio broadcast awards - the poor guy was like huh???? I gotta say that most of the women were pretty good looking, but the clothes were awefull accept for Alison Krauss - who ever was doing the lighting back lit her and her gams showed plenty threw her dress - Laughing

Guitar wise there is a lot of talent in Country today - I was talking to a friend of mine recenetly about this and I think alot of shredders are playing country because that's where the money is. I wonder how many of the performers will be complaining about the technical short comings?

    My Never-ending Search
by 1,000 Watts on Fri Nov 25, 2005 8:17 pm
I am looking for a Black, Dean, Flying V.....the only one I can seem to find is the Noir XT...but, as I've been told, there are very few left. Now, I have spoken with multiple (probably 2) dealers that have this guitar...they also have very few of them. If anybody knows where I can find an online instruments store *like: music123.com* that has Black, Dean, Flying V's, please, PLEASE, let me know.

    Sites I have tried:
    -music123
    -musiciansfriend
    -zZounds
    -dean.com
-others that I cannot think of right now.

    ......

So, if you could help me with my search that would be appreciated.
    Strat Body
by CherryBurstV on Fri Nov 25, 2005 11:47 pm
So my brother-in-law is giving me a Squire strat. I gave him some exercise equipment a while back and wants to return the favor. So I said ok I'll take it, WTF for free. I'll definately be putting some new electronics in, and a vintage neck on it. I figure I can do anything I want with the body. So let me hear some ideas...no smart as$ shitt like trash it, burn it, etc either.... I was thinking of a "spin art" paint job, like at the fairs and carnivals. Or a relic job...... any ideas?

    NOISE GATE?
    by \.../_METAL_\.../ on Sat Nov 26, 2005 12:27 am
Well, since Christmas is almost here I'm looking for a noise gate to put on my list. What are the best ones out there? I might need two (one for straight to the input and the other for the FX loop.) I might just get an Uber Metal to compensate for one, but then it might not sound good at the end of my chain, so probably two. One should do for now I think, but what would be good for down the road? Thanks in advance.

New Relic Strat I'm working on
    by Mike9 on Sat Nov 26, 2005 7:06 am
I decided I need a relic two tone burst Strat - this started out as an early MIK alder body with a flame overlay - made for some inovations finish wise Wink This body has a great "ring" to it - I have great faith in it's tone potential and with full copper shielding it'll be quiet as a lamb before the farm boys get to it. Twisted Evil BTW - the neck is gorgeous south american rosewood and after a "shave & a hair cut" it's as nice a neck as anyone could want. Damn - this is so much fun - Very Happy

    Vinnie News...
by JACKHOLE on Sat Nov 26, 2005 3:53 pm
Former PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott has launched Big Vin Records, a new Dallas-based record label with distribution via Fontana.

Vinnie was a founding member, producer, and one of the masterminds behind the success of PANTERA, the seminal '90s Grammy-nominated metal band whose worldwide album sales total 13.5 million. After the breakup of PANTERA, Paul and his brother, guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, formed DAMAGEPLAN, whose debut album ("New Found Power") was released by Elektra in early 2004.

Big Vin Records' first release will be an album from REBEL MEETS REBEL, a unique crossover of country, metal and rock. It features three of the founding members of PANTERA (Vinnie Paul, Dimebag and bassist Rex Brown) together with legendary country singer/outlaw David Allan Coe. REBEL MEETS REBEL's CD was recorded over a four-year period and is set to contain a total of 12 tracks, including "Nothin' To Lose", "Rebel Meets Rebel", "Cowboys", "Panfillo", "Heartworn Highway", "One Night Stand", "Arizona Rivers", "A Man With Nothin' Ain't Got Nothin' to Lose", "New York City Streets" and "Get Outta My Life".

The title track, "Rebel Meets Rebel", was previously said to be a duet with PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo, although it is not presently clear if Anselmo's contributions will make it to the final product.

"Being from Texas, not only do we have rock roots, but we listen to country and blues," Paul explained to MTV News in early 2000. "Before our shows, we'd play 'Jack Daniels, If You Please' off of one of [Coe's] CDs.... He caught wind of it, and we went out to see him when he played Billy Bob's. He was just a super cool dude. It was fun to check him out, and we hooked him up with a couple of our home videos, and he called us back a couple days later and just said, 'Man, these f***ing videos are incredible. I really dig what you guys do.' He knows more about PANTERA than I do now."

"Rebel Meets Rebel" is scheduled for release in March 2006.

The second project to be released via Big Vin will be a DVD, "Dimevision", as a tribute to Dimebag, one of metal's all-time guitar greats who is credited by some for creating the original concept which eventually became the MTV hit series "Jackass". "Dimevision" features Dime's stellar guitar playing and offbeat brand of humor, and is sure to be a title every serious PANTERA fan will have to own.

PANTERA's career overview CD, "The Best of Pantera: Far Beyond the Great Southern Cowboys' Vulgar Hits!", has sold 452,000 in the United States since its September 2003 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The 16-song "Vulgar Hits!" CD was packaged with a bonus DVD boasting 12 videos, including two live performances. The bulk of the material was culled from the band's six major-label releases, but also included are non-album cuts "Cat Scratch Fever" (a cover of the TED NUGENT song that originally appeared on the Polygram soundtrack to "Detroit Rock City") and the BLACK SABBATH cover "Hole in the Sky", previously available only on import.

by DizzyDean on Sat Nov 26, 2005 9:06 pm
Does anybody have any experience with one? How does it compare to the Peterson Strobe (Full size VS1) tuner? Is it easy to read on the floor in dim light? I'm finding I'm just not happy with my Boss TU2 - just slightly inacurate. I've decided I don't find the LED tuner as accurate as as my little hand held needle tuner. So, I was going to get a Peterson Strobe when I noticed they now have a strobe in a stomp box. I'm wondering if it's as good as the famed VS1????

by Saradilc on Mon Nov 28, 2005 1:58 am
Hi everyone, I really want to advance to the next level in my guitar playing. I am a decent player I suppose for my age, I can play things like the fade to black solo, cowboys from hell solo (a tad bit sloppy for that one) ... stuff around that level, but I really want to take it to the next level since I've been at this stage for so long. I barely know anything about music in general, I didnt take lessons or anything. I want to start learning things like sweep picking, shredding, etc..

If anyone could direct me to some online very very detailed, slow lessons or something that would really help, I'd be really grateful

    Thanks a ton.

by BTMN on Mon Nov 28, 2005 7:58 pm
Nice Aged pantina to front of Headstock. The yellow scuff marks on the edge of the facing you see on the front there appears to be Gold metallic under the Black facing finish. Shocked

    Image

Back of the 'stock reveals first signs of refin. The font is not right. No reply from Hamer Serial Number GURU as to if it is the true number.

    Image

Interesting Sustain Block. Saddles appear correct. Block is differant. It has similarities to a Sustain Block Trem. I would like to see an '84 Sustain Block to know if the design on them changed. In addition there is a shim under this AND..... I hear spring vibration noise when I knock on it. Shocked Shocked Shocked

    Image

    Image

    Image

BTW, did I mentioned it has had the trem cavity filled. BARELY seen Mahogany matching too. I dont think the HFCer that sold it to me knew this. I also think I paid a bit more than I would have knowing this info. Live and learn eh? I cant see where it ever had a neck pickup but in a glare you can see the tenon lines. If it had a pointy headstock, I would think it was a KK Vector but it has what it does. Hate to think it was a Gold Metallic Vector with Sustain Block trem at one time. The Pickup is a typical Hamer branded Dimarzio. Sounds great with new strings.

The edge color actually is a slighty metallic dark Cranberry in a direct light.

I'm split about 50/50 on the tracks. There's some pretty good stuff on there, though. Phil-"I Would Have Taken A Bullet For Dimebag
by JACKHOLE on Tue Nov 29, 2005 5:11 pm
Former PANTERA frontman Philip Anselmo has spoken exclusively to Revolver magazine (web site) about the death of "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, Anselmo's much-rumored substance-abuse problems and the role the heavy metal media has played in PANTERA's eventual demise, among many other topics. Several excerpts from the article (published in the magazine's February 2006 issue, due to hit newsstands on December 6) follow:

Revolver: Tell me about the past year.

Anselmo: "Man, this has been the worst year of my life — it's been the worst year of many people's lives. Ever since… Ever since my guitar player was taken from me, basically."

Revolver: How much do you miss Dime?

Anselmo: "I miss him more than I can even begin to say. I think of him every single waking day — every 30 minutes, if not every five minutes.

"And… [he pauses] Trying not to get choked up here. I'm trying to compose myself. I speak with Rex [Brown, PANTERA's bass player] often. We both are dealing with it… I'm in therapy. I never had to see a psychiatrist before. I see one regularly now. They tried to put me on antidepressants, but I won't take them because I don't trust drugs at all anymore. I don't trust a frippin pill, not unless it's a vitamin.

"I feel so GOLDARN' bad for Vince [Paul, PANTERA's drummer and Darrell's brother], because during the writing of our last record, [his and Darrell's] mother passed away… I miss Vince. I miss his sense of humor. And Dime — there was no more creative, beautiful, perfect motherf@#$% ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever. He could make something out of nothing — if we were in Bumfuck, Anywhere, he could find some kind of something to do that would end up being fun, you know? And not to mention his music, our music. Dimebag, Vinnie, Rex — they were the greatest, and still are the greatest, musicians I've ever played with. I will always love everybody in that band, man. We had so much chemistry together. I miss it so GOLDARN' much. You know, it took me quite awhile, but after about six months, I watched some old videos, I listened to our records, and I was just stunned, amazed, gasping for air, because I knew that I was part of something that changed heavy metal forever. And it took all four of us.

"To lose someone like Dime, and to have his brother in such pain, it kills me. I'd give one of my fingers to fix everything somehow, go back in time, or to have been there. This is a harsh thing to say, but if I saw some stupid son of a bitch coming at my guitar player with a gun, I would have knocked his block off, you know? I would have taken a bullet for that motherf@#$%."

Revolver: Have you tried to contact Vince?

Anselmo: "Yes, right afterwards, and I don't blame him for his isolation. I mean, it's a stunning, stunning thing. It's nothing you can just put out of your mind, it's nothing you can drink away, it's nothing you can go to a psychiatrist for a couple of months and he can put everything into perspective. I fear the worst for him, because I love him so much, you know? All I have in my heart is love, and when I say this, there's no way I can leave the fans out.

"We, PANTERA, had the greatest, the most intense, dedicated fans I've ever seen in my GOLDARN' life. And I really hope with all my heart that one day, people — especially our fans and my friends — can see clearly enough to think for themselves and really realize that I have nothing but love for them. I've just been going through personal hell since December. Once again, it's very hard to talk about, man. You know, my heart is in a thousand pieces a day.

"But there is something very, very, very important that I've been wanting to say for a long time… and the only reason I couldn't say it before was because I always wanted that air of 'a new level of confidence and power' — you know, that 'vulgar display of power.' When I was in my middle twenties, I could walk through walls. There wasn't a man big enough to kick my frippin ass. I'd rock with anyone, and I don't remember losing a fight.

"And then I tried a drug called heroin, because deep inside of myself I thought — I knew — there was no way that any drug could conquer me. No way. But the second time I did it in my entire life, it killed me.

"Then I rebounded from that, played a show the very next night, knew that there's no way I'm messing with that garbage anymore. But I could tell something was screwed up with my back, something was not right. Pain, severe pain. So in between tours, I had an MRI, my first of six. Sure enough, the lowest lumbar disc in my back was ruptured — shattered from being onstage since I was 14 years old, jumping off the stage, off Vinnie's drum set, going as crazy as possible.

"So I asked my doctor, 'What can I do about this?' And he says, 'Well, you're going to have to wear a back brace,' which I've been wearing for 10 years now. [Anselmo pulls up his shirt to reveal a large back brace around his midsection.]

    Revolver: Damn.

Anselmo: "Nobody's known that. Anybody who ever thought I had a beer gut or I was fat, I was holding my bones together. Then, after two, three more tours — another MRI. I got another damaged disc, and no cartilage between the bottom one and the next one, which meant bone-on-bone scraping and nerve damage, and so the painkillers got stronger, stronger, stronger just to get up on that GOLDARN' stage and do what I do, man. I mean, I was born to do this and I've known it since I was 6 years old.

"Back in the Nineties, I went to see so many GOLDARN' surgeons, and they all wanted to slice me open from the belly, take pieces of my hipbone out, take all my guts out, lay them on a table, and then fuse the discs from the front, use pieces of my hip to fill gaps in the bone and cartilage, then put all my guts back in, sew me up. I asked the doctor, 'Well, what's the recovery time for something like that?' And he's like, 'Oh, 10 months to a year, maybe a year and a half.' I'm like, 'No way. I gotta work, bro. We're going to Europe. We're doing Ozzfest. I cannot take a year off.' And then, on top of that, I had doctors ask me if I had been fitted for a wheelchair. That's how bad it was. And I never have let that out of the bag before. I said, 'A wheelchair?! I still jump off the damn drum ri
