Dec 2005
Namm winter 2006 woohooo .
seriously though, i know it is still a couple months away but who will be going ?
anways, i am looking for some cool toys to be released for the year 2006, some dean stuff and non-dean stuff. I think ibanez is going to release a fixed bridge jem along with a special 50k edition for the marking of 50,000 jems sold world wide.
I know that there will be some new razorbacks and the old one will be shipping by then, but i wonder what is in store for the regular non-signature production lines?
for the Megadeth fans out there, whole show video

from Rust in Peace tour - they open with Rattlehead and Wakeup Dead.
not quite a full show, some gaps (this is a boot) but they do Looking Down the Cross....so even for the Rust in Peace era, some good tunes.

Dean Customer Service - AWESOME!
After a few weeks of play, my TC Caddy 3's gold plating had rubbed
off at the bridge where the edge of my palm rests.
Being an '02 model, I knew it had been hanging on the wall a while
before I got it and the bridge was a bit faded, but that didn't bother
me. Anyway, I sent an e-mail to Tommy at Dean and he replied real
quick saying it eventually happens but since it's brand new off the
wall, he'd send me a replacement bridge and tailpiece!
That was AWESOME! I should get them soon! I've read the
testimonials on this forum, and now I'm another one of those
extremely happy, satisfied, Dean customer!
Dang cold today, just looked at the temp, it's a chilly -5 degrees F, that's a -21 degrees C for the rest of the world. Good old North Dakota on Dec. 1st. The dog peed on the fence and almost stuck to it, no flagpole licking today.
I wouldn't want a guitar on the porch today for sure.
Clutch live in Lawrence Kansas
Last night Clutch played a great show in Lawrence Kansas. I've seen them live numerous times; they never fail to kick out the jams and get tighter (as a group) every time.
Two sets, both more than an hour long, Wednesday night, Pabst Blue Ribbon $2.00 what more could you want? If you haven't caught Clutch live, by all means make it a point to do so...Soon! But be warned, no lasers, explosions, confetti, human sacrifice or other such nonsense to distract your senses from the music itself.
And by the way, I don't work for the band or anything like that, I just think that they are very talented musicians that play great together, you know as group or band, it seems like that concept gets lost nowadays.

Heya BraveDave - STARZ DVD News
Music Video Distributors and GB Music have announced the DVD release of STARZ - Back In Action Live 2003, due out January 24th, 2006. According to a press release, after a twenty year hiatus, the original line-up of Starz reunited for a US tour. ...so I saw TSO last night...
Let me begin by saying that if you can get tickets to a TSO show in your area... do whatever it takes to make that possible. These guys were great. At the beginning of the show Chris Caffery (formerly the guitarist for Savatage) told us that there was going to be a few changes to this years show and there was a secret "uplifting" surprise for the end. As far as the few changes, they had incredible pyrotechnics and lighting. They had the entire section of about 2000 seats behind the stage blocked off for pyro cannons and things of that nature. I have included in this post, an extremely high tech drawing of the civic center( ) and most importantly, my location. Anyways, as expected, the musicians were flawless. I was surprised to learn that the orchestral section was made up of local musicians. I guess this is something they do at every show... this was my first show. On to Bob Kinkel... this man is a fantastic pianist. I didn't enjoy the piano that much until I started listening to Dragonforce a while back. I mean, sure, I thought some of it was cool, but I never realized how versatile the piano can be until I discovered Dragonforce. Well, last night was another example of how hard the piano can rock. Perhaps one of the most exciting events of the night was when Alex Skolnick (formerly the guitarist for Testament) disappeared from the stage and re-emerged with a white doubleneck SG. He blasted out the opening riff to Led Zeppelin's Rock and Roll and everyone else followed. It was one big jam session. On to the vocals... I had never heard of this guy before, but Jay Pierce has one of the best voices I have ever heard. It's deep, crisp, and he seems to have total control over it. You guys should check him out. Now for the surprise... located a mere 15 feet from where we were sitting, there was a vertical lift in disguise. During the last song, Chris Caffery and Dave Z (formerly the bassist for Joan Jett and the Blackhearts) hooked themselves up to the safety harnesses on the lift and traded guitar/bass solos.
Note: I'll upload the stage diagram later... can't do it at school.

Optical illusion (UNREAL)
Subject: Optical illusion (UNREAL)
This optical illusion is AMAZING!. Not all of
you will be able to get it
the first time. It is really neat.
http://richstevens.thinkfulsolutions.com/unreal.swf
AMAZING! Singer hit every note screaming or singing. All the solos were dead on and on one song Corey and Matt both took a solo break and did the Batio over under trick together. They put on a sweet show. All marshall gear from what I could see JMP-1 preamp with the Marshall powerblock or whatever their tube power amp is called. Amod Amoth opened (Viking Metal band) they kicked major ass and thrashed like there was no tomorrow but they were using crate heads so you couldn't tell one note from the next. Left before children of bodom came on because I was getting sick of the moshing and I don't really dig CoB. All in all, amazing time Trivium rules.
Custom Truss Rod Covers...
Hello all,
Since my first Dean time capsule I have been looking for the right accessory to tie in the beautiful body color to the black headstock. I wanted something simple that wouldn't comprimize the value of the guitar, so the TRC was the obvious choice. I spent a lot of time and money on all kinds of covers but was never satisfied. A friend of mine suggested I make one, and my local Dean dealer gave me the direction for the material. BAM! I have been making these cool truss rod covers for all my axes and and occasional friend. Recently a member I made one for recommended I offer them on the forum to DOA members.
So here they are... made by hand with real shell, They take 3 days to make, but worth the wait. I can cut new ones or re-top your original. I currently have 5 colors on hand, but have access to just about any color in multiple textures
Here are some pics...

Got me a peavey trans tube.

well, the fed ex guy dropped off my Peavey trans tube 212 EFX today. I have to patiently await to open it until christmas though. I will post some pictures and a review on it then.
I admit it - I am a v-aholic
Unless I'm recording (which I play my Caddy) I can't stop myself from picking up a V.
I traced my V the other day for a flight case. I don't even have the money for a V flightcase!
I find myself loading up a V in photoshop to play with different color schemes.
I get offended when people don't know what a V is.
My instructions to my four years olds has changed from 'don't touch the guitars' to 'don't touch the V's'.
I'm lobbying for Gibson to remove the 'V' from their flying guitar.
I'm thankfull that Accept weren't Dean users or else that original 'Restless and Wild' cover would have been sacrilege.

Fully Modified 79 Z possibly for sale
by lt1z on Sat Dec 03, 2005 12:04 am
I have a 79 series Dean Z (braziliaburst) that has been modified in all of the areas that a 79 would need. It has a Tone pros TOM bridge, Dimebucker/59(n) pickup combo, graphtech nut and is set up for D tuning with 10-52 strings.
I am considering selling this guitar because I just don't play it as much as my others. It sounds and looks great. Only issue is a small crack in the clear coat(not in the wood) on the back of the neck.
Remembering.... NO not dime

I've got a question: Why is it that USA models are supposed to be the best models? is it just because they are made in the USA and dont have to be shipped?? or is America the premiere guitar country? it seems like so many people from other countries want to get their hands on american made guitars. Jackson, Gibson, PRS, Dean, Gretsch, fender. I understand a hand built guitar anywhere is usually the cream of the crop but still, as far as the large companies go, does america have the leading guitar companies, hence USA made guitars being so sought after and expensive?
If u could make a metal band, where all kind of muscicians are allowed, what would be yours?
Mine:
Dimebag ... lead Guitar!!!
Joey Jordison - Drums
Ozzy - vocals
Rex - bass
Kirk Hammett - another lead guitarrist

Just back from watching The Agony Scene & Lamb of God
The Agony scene...
Great opening band. Really aggressive with some awesome chunky riffs. Alot of people in the crowd seemed pretty damn impressed. They were tight as well and enough to warrant me buying the CD
Then DevilDriver came on and we went for beer (they really are awful)...
Then...
Lamb of God.
Truly just about untouchable. I haven't seen a live band rip up a venue like that except machine head & pantera. They were as tight as a knat's right teste.
Most of the tunes were culled off "Ashes of the wake" but some were from "as the palaces burn". They completely crushed. An 80 minute set just flew by, they were that good
Every song was delivered just like the CD's but they did make the 1/4 time stuff grind more than ever. Completely intense and they are one hella of a monster live band

I nee some help in finding a good noise gate, it doesnt have to be a rack one but wouldnt hurt if it was. I am thinking of a Boss NF-1 pedal. Is it any good?
The reason Im looking is obvious. I had my pq-4 and mxr hooked up to my X2 and couldnt get the sound I was looking for, having just plugging straight into the amp sounded better. Well, it is still extremely noisy with uncontrollable feedback. I have a Rocktron Hush pedal. Plugging it into the effects loops does nothing, if anything it gives it more of a boost (wierd). So I plugged it in between my guitar and amp and it seem to work fine for getting rid of the noise and having that tight rhythm, but with one exception. You know the natural sound of the amp you hear through the speakers with volume down on guitar? Well with this unit plugged in, it is that magnified by about 10, like wind blowing through the speakers. It would be nice to have something that you cannot tell is in the chain, as if you were plugged straight in to the amp. Im having a hard time explaining this, but I hope someone understands. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi.
Looking for advice on long lasting acoustic strings.
I currently use Ernie Ball Earthwood's but find they corrode really quickly, particularly compared to my D'addario's on my electrics.
Any recommendations much appreciated.
Ally.
Watch out for evil sellers on the Bay. FBD ML
This is crazy!!!!!!!!!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/Dean-Dimebag-Tribute-ML-Electric-Guitar_W0QQitemZ7370340683QQcategoryZ41435QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
This guy wants $1300 for buy it now and over 1,000 to start. It is 899 including case with free shipping everywhere else. They also state that if you buy by Dec 10th they will give you the case free, what a bunch of losers, it comes with the case. $120 bucks to ship? Man I hope no one gets ripped off by this guy. It is a great guitar and I love it, but it is way over priced.
Okay, EVERYTHING I touch turns to s#%t. My Marshall blew up, and various things on my ML have been braking (stripped screws, Floyde bar snapped the other day, microphonic pickups, and strings breaking all the time like just ten minutes ago.) This thread is mainly about strings just so you know. I use Dime's signiture DR sets, I've tried both and love them. The bad thing is that even though it quotes Dime saying how good they are for Floyds and how long they last, mine don't last more than 3 weeks on a Floyded guitar (on non-Floyds they last a few months.) So I'm tired of these chihuahua strings. Can I get some recomendations for strings on a Floyded guitar, I have all the strings tunned down a half step, so a heavyish gauge would be good. Thanks in advance, maybe it's just a super shitty Foyd, when the bar broke the guy at the store said he remembered the type of bar it would need and it was for the lowest end one . Thanks in advance.
Just got the Krankenstein up and working..........
Incase no one has read the post in the Dealers section.
First off, I must say what a class act Eddie @ Carlino's Guitars is. first rate and top notch in service and everything.
ANyways this amp is bad ass. And LOUD !!!!!!!!!! 1.5 or 2 is about all you need, 3 is a bleeder. This is a bad ass amp. Definately not dissappointed.
To the haters, I got 2 words for ya.........$uck it. I know everyone has preferences, and all that, but this amp in no way sucks, I dont care what you like/prefer.
I strongly recommend people check em out, and when you're buying guitar stuff, go with Eddie, best price, best stuff, best service. Dont worry Dave @ B&T, you're kool too. ha
As Dime would say
Getcha Pull off of that s#%t !!!!!

We're in a 55mph zone.

We approach a curve rated for 45mph.
The idiot in front of me STILL slows down.

It gots da Mojo vibe...yes it do...
by kevphol on Mon Dec 05, 2005 5:12 pm
That'd be my EVO 60 with P-90s that just arrived! Haven't even plugged it in yet but I can already feel the Mojo workin'! It is jet black with black P-90s, two black control knobs and body binding that is a nice aged looking cream color. (pics to follow later) Just the looks alone get me itchin' to fire up some down and dirty delta blues. It has a nice feel too, with some weight to it (which I like), probably similar if not the same as the special selects since it basically has the same specs. The neck has a nice and easy playing curve and is less chunky than my Czech EVO.
I can't wait to crank up this bad boy! Unfortunately I will probably get to demo it only shortly before my wife takes it away and wraps it as my Christmas present! That was our "deal" but hey, at least I found way to justify another guitar!
Pics and tone review to come...

ISP Decimator questions
by MLFLAME on Mon Dec 05, 2005 6:01 pm
Guys,
I know I've seen references to the ISP Decimator pedal and I have 2 questions:
1.Is it as good as the reviews says it is? I've been running into noise problems with my Peavey Rockmaster and the noise gate I have isn't good enough.
2. Do you use it at the amp input or effects loop?
Thanks,
Ken
Terry Lauderdale needs a Dean!!!
by Lon on Mon Dec 05, 2005 8:21 pm
Friend of mine from the Meniketti/Y&Y site. Terry plays it all! Check his site. He's the guitar player for Hot For Teacher (HFT) a CA based Van Halen tribute band, and he's also doing some work for Heathen on guitar. Check the audio links for some of his stuff, and be prepared for his version of Eruption.
http://www.terrylauderdale.com/home.html
I am very embarrassed to ask this
I was hoping that they 'Dunlop tuner' thread would generate some more responses, but it didn't.
I'm looking for tips/tricks/ideas on the best way to string Deans (basically 3 per side).
Before you think 'What kind of moron is this guy????'. Let me explain.
I did nearly all my touring and recording in the past 15 years with Strats and Telecasters. Which of course are 6 per side tuning pegs. I would rest the guitar inside my left leg and I wind the tuner with my right hand. I use my left hand to hold and guide the strings.
I can restring a Strat very quickly and easily.
When I started playing Deans again, I just reversed this technique for the 3 higher strings. ITS VERY UNCOMFORTABLE!!!!!! And it takes me a long time.
And I have to change my Dean strings when no else is looking! It's because I look like a total newbie when I'm doing this.
So I think that I probably need to develop a different stringing technique. I probably actually knew one back in the early 80's when I was playing Deans. But I adapted to the Strat technique and it become ingrained in me.
Thoughts / Tips / Hints MUCH APPRECIATED
I know there area few out there that have gone thru what I'm going throught.
My dad had a heart attack Saturday morning, He was suppose to go into surgery today, but after taking another look they think it may be worse than they thought, and called in a specalist.
It's really hard to see him like this ( in a weakened state ). Man he is/was John Wayne, Superman, Audy Murphy all rolled up into one. Really old school man among men....
He and I went through five Hurricane's ( one which destroyed his home ), lost his wife of 30 years two days after hurricane Charley ( which desroyed his home ), moved in with me to rebuild his life. He could'nt bury his wife ( my stepmom ) for almost six weeks because of the hurricane's and flooding. Through it all he stayed strong, never showed weakness. I look up to my dad's strength and his example of how to live as a man....
I , as well as my dad need your prayers ( I know there are a couple that do pray ).... Thanks, ffej
I know I'll probaly catch some hell for this, but I was thinking about getting an Ibanez acoustic (aes10e).Anybody have one and like it?I played that one and some of the deans and it just felt to me like it played alittle better. No disrespect to Dean guitars my Dime ML is the sweetest guitar I EVER played. If you guys have any other suggestions for an acoustic under 400 please let me know. Thanks

Man, I just set up my ML-F today (It had been a while, and It had gone through a big climate change), and I have to say... This thing plays like buttah. I've fallen in love with it again. Now I'm not sure If I could sell it for a muddy bullseye
I just had to share my excitement with somebody. Nobody is around that I can talk guitars with
K, I want to get a randall RH50T (tube amp) but Im looking for a good price 4x12 cabinet. This is the first tube amp ive ever had. my question is, do I have to use a certain tybe of cabinet with a tube amp? I really dont know much about amps
For me and other unknowing folks...
I'm a lookin' for some info on the Electro Harmonix Holy Grail Digital Reverb and the MXR M117R Flanger AND the MXR EVH 90 Phase 90...
How good are they and what do they do? Me only having an Epiphone Les Paul and two practice amps I couldn't begin tell you what the hell they do. I'm looking to buy a couple of them though, you know, and plan on getting a half stack too.
Right on, Andy Rooney!
Andy Rooney said on "60 Minutes" a few weeks back:
I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America; and see what happens...Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door.
Guns do not make you a killer. I think killing makes you a killer. You can kill someone with a baseball bat or a car, but no one is trying to ban you from driving to the ball game.

I don't think just because you were not born in this country, you are qualified for any special loan programs, government sponsored bank loans or tax breaks, etc., so you can open a hotel, coffee shop, trinket store, or any other business.
We did not go to the aid of certain foreign countries and risk our lives in wars to defend their freedoms, so that decades later they could come over here and tell us our constitution is a living document; and open to their interpretations.

I think tattoos and piercing are fine if you want them, but please don't pretend they are a political statement. And, please, stay home until that new lip ring heals. I don't want to look at your ugly infected mouth as you serve me French fries!
I am sick of "Political Correctness." I know a lot of black people, and not a single one of them was born in Africa; so how can they be "African-Americans"? Besides, Africa is a continent. I don't go around saying I am a European-American because my great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather was from Europe. I am proud to be from America and nowhere else

I just got my Furman PQ-4 in and I have a problem. It was from England and the transformer inside is a 230 VAC when the back of the unit calls for 115 transformer and plug. What transformer do I need. If anyone has this unit can they please look at theirs and tell me what to get and how to wire it. Thanks

Im getting ready to get on the plane to head back to the states after being gone for just over a year. I want to thank each and every person who sent things to me while I was here. Things like music and magazines and guitar picks. That stuff means more to me than you guys know. Thats a lot to do for someone that you have never met in person and I appreciate it bigtime. I want to thank everyone who let me vent when I was pissed off and missing home. It wasnt all bad but some of it sucked really bad and you guys made it easier for me. Sometimes you just need someone to talk to who isnt in the same boat as you are and you guys were there and I wont forget it. You know who you are. If there is anything I can ever do for you guys dont hesitate to let me know. Thanks a bunch and I will see you at DOA!!!!!!!!!!!
Black gold V or Z = Tough choice
I'm ordering a black gold this week or next.
A V or Z...... It's a tough choice.
Pros and Cons of each -
V.
PROS
I love V's. My favorite shape
I'll be getting a V flight case in January
Lightweight guitar, easy and fun to play live
CONS
I don't want to be known as one shape player
I record sitting down, so these aren't studio guitars
Z.
PROS
I don't own a Z
Would give me more variety of guitars live
Another studio guitar to play on albums
CONS
I'd probably need to buy another flight case $$$$
SODOM - Lords Of Depravity Part 1 DVD
I just have it in, first impressions:
Packaging:
Double digipack in slipcase very high quality, both DVD's have their own extensive booklet (repectively 13 pages for the documentary DVD and 8 for the live DVD). Artwork and printquality is top notch! the innersleeve has all kinds of important qoutes from bandmembers from the documentary printed on it.
Live DVD:
Killer, killer, killer!!! the sound is awesome, raw, loud, live and autenthic. No overbubs here when Bernemann is playing a solo they didn;t put a rhythm track underneath it's just frippin authentic LIVE! it's mixed in 5.1 and it will blow you all away. The performance is very energetic and 100% SODOM! The Sofia venue is huge and the fans go insane. The Camera editing is a little hectic, loads of angle changes and stuff but that also contributes to the fact it doesn't bore you very soon. The setlist well, no surprises here oh well....maybe the KILLER live performance of "Nuclear Winter" geez that song rocks I wish they'd play it more often.
All in all this DVD puts the competition to shame, this DVD has cost blood, sweat and tears you can obviously see they put a lot of love into this, it's an absolute reference work in music DVD's and unheard of in the metal scene, and this is only part 1!!!! the videoquality is always very good the editing of the in between fan/press/backstage scenes is 110% pro quality and can compete with anything out there.
and I have yet to watch the three hours of documentary on the band! But I already saw the trailer and we'll see people like KREATOR's Mille, SIX FEET UNDER's Chris Barnes, HYPOCRISY's Peter Tagtgren and so on commenting on SODOM, their label chef, all ex-members, friends, fans and so on!
A Golden E'Lite reissue would be nice
Just saw a photo (I think it's Jeepsters) of a classic Golden E'Lite.
I'd love to see a reissue of that model.
Vendetta-Good, or not?
by JPick on Tue Dec 06, 2005 9:26 pm
I am looking at a Dean Vendetta to purchase. The amp I am looking at is a Washburn Mini Stack system. It has a camoflauge finish. The dealer has the Vendetta at $370 list price. I'm pretty sure it is the 1.0 Vendetta. The amp is at $200 list price. He said for me he would go down to $400 for the whole set. This is with the discounts. I would like to know if this would be a good choice. Also, i want to know a little more about the Vendetta, and even the amp. I have a Yamaha EGC 112 now but it is not that great for rocking. Please let me know if you have any information on this set up. If there are any other guitars and packages that you know of and are around $400, please reply.

CURRENCY CONVERSION HELP!!!!
by chambers on Wed Dec 07, 2005 12:43 am
okay, first off. the British pound looks like an "L" with a line through it right? secondly, how much is 899 of this currency in US dollars?
whats your dream guitar??
my dream guitar would be a white ml dean with black trim(like one of dimes guitars)but with a neck like yngwie malmsteen has on his guitar, that kind of yellowish neck, and with a white dean 79 headstock, and with emg 81s on it,and a floyd!!
http://www.ebaumsworld.com/audios.shtml Go there and listen to the Lindsay Lowhan one at the bottom. It's really quiet, so you have turn it up pretty loud.
It's not that work safe, sorry. PS, don't ruin it for the rest of the people.
Okay, I'm trying to get a BL 500-XL, but I tried calling the number on the site and it didn't owrk. I tried emailing him/the the company or whatever. I know that it says he takes a while to reply but that was 3 weeks ago . Any suggestions (my dad doesn't want me to get one off ebay...) Thanks in advance.
Well, I have a big delema. I can't decide on a new guitar. Right now it's between the razorback two tone and black gold V or ML. Heres the pros/cons.
RAZORBACK TWO TONE
PROS: has floyd, pointy, kickass, would make people jelouse
CONS: shiny black paint job(shows sratches easily), not ebony fret board, set neck, 22 frets, shitty floyd, might not be very comfortable, is a little high priced for me right now(probably won't be after christmas), I already have a Dean, better paintjobs could come out soon
BLACK GOLD V
PROS: sweet, I love Vs, light, in my price range
CONS: not ebony fret board, no floyd, I don't like the headstocks on Dean Vs, set neck, 22 frets, gold hardware fades(in past experiences), I already have a Dean
BLACK GOLD ML
PROS: sweet, I LOVE MLs, in my price range
CONS: set neck, 22 frets, not ebony fret board, no floyd, gold hardware fades(in past experiences), I already have an ML/Dean
SOMETHING ELSE
PROS: could get a 24 fret, could get an ebony fret board, could get a floyd, might find something better I like
CONS: might take a while to find something good
I don't know what to do . Could you guys give me some help. Is the black gold series going to be a limited thing? When do you think the new RB paint jobs will come out? Would it hurt the value of a black gold guitar to put in a floyd? Thats it for now, thanks in advance.
alaska sucks. its cold, its dark, and no one is ever on because of the flippin time difference. it pisses me off. when it is say 10pm here it is like 2am on the east coast. so all the ppl are on when i am at school and i cant get on the copmputers there

Hey Guys
Im thinking about getting a Seymour Duncan SH-1 59, the neck pickup Dime used
Please can u tell me if its worth me getting one?
And what they sound like? All you Dime Ml owners should know that (well at least the ones with the 59 in them)
Anyway Thanks
I want a Razorback but...
But I am not a trem user. Go ahead, say it, "hahaha this loser will never see one." Every time I see one posted my jaw drops. I think they are absolutely the coolest guitars I have ever seen and surely would have sold as many family members as needed to buy one! (Sorry Mom.) I now understand how other lefty's (learned to play righty at a young age) feel about guitars they can't get their hands on.
All jokes aside, congratulations to all you guys who ordered USA Razobacks, I am truly jealous you lucky bastards!
retarded!!!! Today, i came home, and was locked outta my house....so, I went down near the basement.......KICKED a window and smashed it... now I have a HUGE gash in my right ankle....well, I did....now I have stitches.....When I coulda' just gone to the next-door neighboors house and used their phone......And I do know my next-door neighboors...so it's not like they're strangers.

Have you checked out the "new" Tiki? I'm not impressed - it's gonna take some getting used to. Kinda cheesy too if you ask me At least the last one had character - this feels cold and impersonal. No offense to Pete - he's just doing his job I guess

Howard stern and his last day on FM?
I'm from jersey.....old school Howard stern fan.....I was just curious if any of the Dean forum members are fans of his and if you plan on being in NY on the 16th for the big last show party he's having. It seems there will be a lot of people there....going to be fun....who's with me?
i think ive posted it before
but i figured..what the hell..tomorrow marks one year, ill repost..
RIP Darrell.
trader ratings for the trading forum
i was just wondering if i was the only one thinking that a trader rating system would be a good idea. Bassically i'd be the same as feedback on ebay.
It is in use at jemsite.com and i think it would be a good addition to the dean fourms espically since buyers, newer or older could keep track of good people to deal with and the other not so good.
Discontinued Randall foot switch
I got this discontinued Randall head, its an RG 150 ES, i think its 90's cause of the hard plastic snakeskin covering, and I dont have the foot switch, i researched it a while ago and remember seeing someone who can build one or sell you schematics, but i cant find it now.
just wondering if someone here had an extra to sell, or the ability to recreate, or send the schematics to me, my dad can probably do it, but hes going to need the diagrams, its the one with the rectangular six prong fitting, like so...
1 2
3 4
5 6
if its one thing i hate its not being able to unlock the full potential of my equipment cause im missing a part
thanks alot!
oops! its an RG 100 ES, its just 150 watts.... DOH!!
Hi all, haven't been around here in a while but everything is cool and I am still enjoying my Deans Just wanted to drop in and wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! God bless you all. Peace -Frank
i have a quick question. in the profile it says D M d, Y g:i a. wtf does this stand for? and how the hell do u get your font to be a different color?
Just thought this was kinda cool for a low watt practice amp that won't break the pocketbook.

new soundhole sticker?
by tomi on Thu Dec 08, 2005 1:59 pm
hi
i have a sweetwood jcr, a wonderful guitar btw, but due to some drinking, partying and whatsoever some fluid substances entered my guitars soundhole (really, dont ask why...i dont know) and ruined the amazing sticker inside with the serialnumber, guitar type etc.
nothing else happened and the guitar is dry again inside it just stinks a little bit (is it beer?)
yeah well it was a bad accident i think
the question is: where do i get a new sticker like that?
i already mailed the dean support (today) but maybe you have some better ideas on how to save my soundhole sticker ^^
anybody here familiar with heating systems...like home heating systems?
my central air unit is blowing hot air, but it seems to be very weak making it up to the vents....any Ideas? The air coming out of the airhandler is very strong, but that's not translating to the vents on the main floor of the house.
You guys are all a vast wealth of useless/useful knowledge, and I figured I'd check here...Much like Tom, I am on a budget, and trying to learn instead of pay someone else to do it.
Humidity

What does everyone use to monitor and control humidity in their guitar room?
What A Long Strange Trip It's been!!!!!
But I think the time has come to move on.
It’s no secret that I miss the forum of the old days. To me, this place has changed drastically. It used to be a fairly tight knit bunch that talked about all things Dean. Now, it seems that hot chicks are far more important than guitars. Ad to that some material I just plain old find wierd. Some times I have to look it up….usually because Ian is using some phrase that I haven’t got a clue what the meaning is…….and when I find out what it means, well, I guess I just can’t relate. No harm in that, that’s just me and my problem!! So, there really isn’t much reason to hang around. Heck, all I do is log in and get annoyed.
I obviously don’t enjoy the forum the way I used too. So why keep coming – I really had to ask myself that this morning. Despite what some may thing, I was really upset that people got so mad at me for just trying to give people what I thought was a legitimate heads up in the HT for sale thread. I really lost sleep over it. So why do you keep comin Diz?? The answer is, I’m not sure. It’s part of my daily routine I guess, something I always do, so I just do it. This place used to be my “Cheers” –ya know – you want to be where everyone knows your name. It appears than most of the people I used to really enjoy the company off either have moved on or on, or hardly post anymore. Joe San, Hans, Bernt, Mikko, Keith, Dime Joe, Blood, Jay, Mike, Jeff, Randall, Jim, Micky, Brian (thanks for all the help with the gear man!!), even Dave. It’s a long list (and I know I’ve overlooked many a good person I really like) – but these folks just don’t show the way they used too. Please don’t take that to mean if you are posting, I don’t like you. I like 99% of the posters on here, my dislike list is EXTREMELY short. I’m not leaving because I don’t like the current bunch, I’m just going because I really don’t relate to you – no harm in that! I know why some of the old boys left because we still talk. Alas, you were right boys, just took me a little longer to see and accept it!
So, along with them, I think it’s time to move on from this chapter of my life. I can’t get the old forum back, and I just don’t seem to relate to the new one. Truth be told, my money these days is spent on other brands.
If I offended anyone with the last fiasco in the HT for sale thread, please accept my apologies. I honestly thought the seller had caused a good friend of the forum some grief and people deserved a heads up. That member no longer posts here, so I thought someone should say something. I only had the best intentions in mind. I didn’t want anyone else to go through the amount of grief Joe did.
Yep – Like Trapper said – where there’s flames – there’s Diz. One thing you can never say about me is ya didn’t know where I stood on an issue. No regrets in that area (except the remarks I made against Ian – which I apologized for and will always regret – I know when I’m wrong, and I was that time!).
So I bid you farewell. It really has been fun and I will miss the forum. Have fun at DOA, I’ll raise a beer to all of you on the day and remember the fun I had there too!!! Jimbo, if ya had me on the list, me thinks we won’t be making the trip this year!!!!!!!
A little dramatic – yeah – probably – but despite what some say – I do have a lot of good close friends here and I won’t bow out without saying so long!!
And with that, I’ll remove the forum from my favourites list. This will be a hard habit to kick, and I’m sure I’ll be back someday (as I like to say – they always come back), but for now, I’m too tired of trying to defend what I think is right. Send me a PM some time, I’ll probably still pop in to read those everyone once and a while!!
It’s been a BLAST!!!
Cheers!!!!!!!
Peter

by Rickyg on Thu Dec 08, 2005 8:53 pm
In light of the "What A Long Strange Trip its been!!!!!" thread, I think that we should have a new page in the forum, The "All about music" page, That would be nice, where you can't post weird stupid stuff, just guitar talk. Talk about bands and guitar players. That would be nice.
Who would like a Razorback without a trem? Can we get 12 votes?

1980 - John Lennon shot
Just pointing that out...nothing of any real relavance to say.
The Beatles were great. I still enjoy their music (even though I was 1 when Lennon was shot).
EDIT: For those mourning Dime who think the Old Timers can't relate. These sound an aweful lot like some of the posts I've seen here.
| Quote: |
"I lost my real father in 1973, but the pain didn't really hit home until December 8, 1980. John Lennon and his music raised me as much as my real dad did, and I think he did a great job!" — Samuel
“I was watching TV when the announcement came on. Obviously, I was shocked. My thoughts were with John, wondering how he must have felt. I was so angry at his murderer. Having been a Beatles fan and then a "solo" John Lennon fan, I guess his death is something I will never understand.” — Robyn (Duncan, OK)

Check out the guitar shown...
Thought y'all might dig it.
my mt-2 is a couple of years old now and the output connection is kinda loose, probably been oversized by the jack...
sometimes the volume output of the pedal fluctuates because of this and if i play with the jack it will return to normal...
I was just wondering if this was the problem and what i can do to fix it. my mt-2 is the core of my tone, its the only stompbox ive had for years, i used to have and ibanez classic metal pedal but i gave it to my older sister, she doesnt play much anymore but she likes it more than her practice amp distortion.
back to the subject all i need to do is open the baby up, remove the old connection and replace it with a new one? where can i find these? do i have to go through boss or are there shops with this stuff?
let me know what you guys think! thanks!

Good source for leather guitar straps?????
I'm looking for a place to get good guitar straps.
Wide soft black leather. But high quality leather that will last years.
I've been to music store looking for straps and here's what I find -
Thin brittle leather
Adjustable straps where the adjustable portion is very thin
Spikes, skulls, dragon heads
Western designs
Goofy graphics
I don't want any of of this. I don't want an adjustable strap. I don't want graphics.
Back in the day, my local music store sold these straps in about 5 different lengths. They weren't adjustable, you bought the length you needed. They had no graphics, no designs, no fake fur on the back.
I've talked to local leather shops and I've searched online. No luck. There are several custom guitar strap dealers online but they all seem to sell straps with goofy designs on them. I wrote 2 of them and never heard back.
Anyone have any ideas?
Mark
How's this for a new Dean model ??
Ok, it's originally a Killer Guitar, but those are too pricey
and I doubt they are sold anywhere outside Japan
(if they're still in production, who knows ...)
Anyway ...

New VoV Song for Download
I wanted to share this completed song, because it was written before recent events in my life, and now, because of those events, it is even more significant to me.
The song is called "Love Lost"
http://vov.tentenland.net/mp3/LoveLost.mp3
This one was fully recorded, mixed and produced by Brian Ciuffreda, (Bri54) and he also makes an appearance on this one on bass.
He nailed the whole thing, and he worked very hard while sick on it. Im a pain in the a$$, and he put up with me on this one, I owe him so much for all his work helping me on this album.
I dedicate this one to my friend "JD" (intodeans)
Three more new tunes are near completion, and I am also adding a funny bonus track at the end, so when the release comes out, and you get one, make sure you let that last song end a little longer.......... (HINT!)
PS: This is the last full song I will be putting up until the release, I hope you all like it.
Love yas,
J.A.

Whats up guys I just ordered a L500xl to go in my 79mlf. Are the stock pots ok or would it be better to change to something like 2500k pots? I don't know much about the electrical parts of the guitar and how this will effect tone. When I installed emg's in my Les Paul I had to change the pots. Sorry for the below 70 IQ type question I sould have done some reserch on the net but I know we have some really good guitar techs on this board that can explain whats up so I can understand it lol.
does anyone know where i could possibly find a rebel guitar strap?
made sorta like a dimarzio cliplock strap.
i have only seen one and dont know who its made by but it was fully covered rebel stars and bars.

I hope it doesn't stay just Pantera and Damageplan. I mean, I love that stuff but I was really diggin' the other stuff too!
Oh well, guess I listen to Device 17 for a while. They kick ass too.
I don't want to wait a couple months for a brand new BL 500-XL. I want to get one off ebay, but I want to make sure I don't buy a knock off. I want the BILL AND BECKY LAWRENCE BL500-XL. Could you guys post some pics of what a real one looks like or telling me some things to identify a real one from a knock off. It would be even better if somebody here on the forum was selling one (I don't want to buy a stranger that might send me a dud .)I would really apriciate it. Thanks in advance.

This is my only Dean (Only electric for that matter). Caddy Select TransAmber Burst. Man, I love this guitar.
The only modification I've made is Dunlop Straplocks. Eventually, I'll probably swap out the pickups, but they're just fine as they are.

Yea...now they've set their sights on all the "Tab and Lyrics" sites citing that they post ILLEGAL music scores and lyrics lists....

i have two posters on my wall that feature the DFH and on one of
them the neck pup is zebra w/ the creme side towards the actual
neck.
on the other poster or the same guitar, the pup is either flipped
around or it's a different pickup.
however, both of these pics were put out after Dime's death.
conspiracy theory: is there a replica DFH out there that belonged to dime?

DEATH OF THE BRUTALIZER!!
Okay, I have a Fender DG-7 acoustic that is my only playable guitar right now. The thing is the action on it is REALLY high, the further you go up the neck the higher it gets. I thought about adjusting the truss rod or fileing down the brige peice. If I did one of these things would it help? Which way should the truss rod be turned? I've heard of people fileing down the bring piece and they say you have to be REALLY carefull. What should I do?
PS: I think since this is a cheap guitar that I'm going to use it for a scalloping project. Thoughts on that?
Thanks in advance.
I don't know if this will work, but...
...I've been seeing a lot of these threads about ideas from other threads. It's time we create our own thread where people on other forums will say, "Hey, I saw this on the Dean Guitar board, so we should try it here". I think this idea can be entertaining...
Post stories about you, friends, or family members that begin with the famous last words, "Hey, watch this!"
Okay, I was just researching them online when my dad says "They can track that ya' know." I"m getting pretty mad....can somebody tell me a site for info on them and can somebody also tell me the laws on them in Massachusetts? thank you.

26,5 scale in 7string
by Nileman on Sun Dec 11, 2005 12:24 am
Got a question:
- whats the difference between 26,5 (extended) and standard 25,5( or 23,3/4)?
- standard tunings go good with that, or is it for lower ones (like baritones)?
- am i gonna have any other problems, e.g. when playing with second 6 string 25,5 (or 23,3/4) guitar in band (in standard tuning)
Just wanna make sure. 100% sure Just in case. 100%
Thx
Well, I ordered one. I'll be paying via cheque, and I'm going to wait until march when the guitars get shipped out before I send my cheque out. Unless I can be completely sure I'm going to get it. Just thought I'd share with you guys...

Non-Dean Purchase

I just got this. $349 with case. It's used but it honestly looks like it has never beebn played. Came with some Bill Lwarence pickups. I have no clue what model they are.
I already ordered some grover locking tuners for it. I am considering swapping the Bill Lawrence pickups with some of the GFS Filtron copies llike the Liverpools. They would be a way more 'suiting' pickup for the guitar I think. I personally think the BL's are a really odd choice for a hollowbody, but I figured I could sell them pretty easily.

Thor's Top 10 of Metal for 2005
Here is my Top 10 list of Heavy Metal CDs for the year 2005. Not anything you would see on American music video channels (except for Nevermore)
or something you would be hearing in the background at your local Hot Topic at the mall (not one for anything with "core" anywhere in
the description). A pretty diverse list ranging from epic masterpieces to new age to traditional power metal to all out thrash.
It was a really good year for metal releases!
10) Kamelot - The Black Halo
9) Brainstorm - Liquid Monster
Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys : The Legacy
7) Metalium - Demons of Instanity, Chapter Five
6) Yngwie J. Malmsteen - Unleash the Fury
5) Gamma Ray - Majestic
4) Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor
3) Pagan's Mind - Egnimatic : Calling
2) Primal Fear - Seven Seals
1) Exodus - Shovel Headed Kill Machine

I got to check out one of those $4800 Les Pauls (Guitar Center sells 'em).
Nice guitar, but not even close to being worth that price.
If I my TC Caddy is a $2,000 guitar then this Les Paul should probably be a $1,500 guitar.
Overall, it wasn't bad at all. I liked it. I just couldn't see where that price tag is coming from.

Unfortunatly it arrived damaged. The tuners are all cracked, the strap button is cracked off and the guitar was just free floating in the package. I sent them an email since their phone # is disconected. Hopefully they do something for me on this I'm pretty disappointed right now. I'll let you all know what they do for me. I also ordered the Dimebag sculpture. I hope that one arrives safely.

Dave, I wanted to let you know I got your message. I can't seem to reply to private messages though (I made a post about this problem). If you see this post, maybe PM your email address and I can talk to you that way.
Sorry mods or making a semi-useless post. I can't get send private messages using either Firefox or Explorer though. Every time I try to hit 'enter' while typing lines, the 'search username' window pops up. It also won't insert a line break automatically if I try to just type without hitting 'enter' meaning I can only type one line. I don't know what the deal is.
I can't help but wonder how this turned out. {though I'm sure it wasn't good}

Who is more talented, Joe Satriani or Steve Vai? i wanna hear your guyz's thoughts. i like them both but who do think is more talented and why?
well i hate to compare a 79 to a gibson but that is exactly what i am doing. I played a gibson faded/ worn v, yeah the cheap one and liked the neck profile quite a bit and i have been seriously thinkin about a v . I was wondering if the 79 v had a comparable neck to the gibson.
The frets on the gibson sucked and the high e wanted to fly off the nut. I didn't like much else other than the feel of the neck.
Bought myself a christmas present!
Hey guys,
Man, I was looking where to post this, maybe we should ask the mods to create an AMP and Effects section, to show off what our Deans are going though, but whatever. I had an unfortunate situation come up a few months ago and sold all my gear. Also since dropping out of school to help out the folks at home (I'm back in school, no worries) I haven't had a lot of money. I wanted to buy something really nice for myself for a couple of years now, so I was going to buy a Randall RM100. I was looking around and finally found 2 older Randall SS amps. Now most people collect old Les Pauls and Deans (god bless ya, I hope to one day own a vintage Dean), but I like the old school Randall amps. I found a RG150 head (same as RG100, but with a graphic EQ also) and believe it or not, a Century 200 head. I jumped on the oppertunity and should have both here by the end of the week! I'm totally psyched seeing I've been playing my electric without an amp for a few months, and I finally feel a little (ALOT actually!) better about how things are going now that I got a little something for myself. Just trying to spread my good vibes and share a cool story. For you guys who know Randall stuff I thought you might find those amps kinda cool, although the RG100 pops up pretty often. Actually got a nice deal on em too, so that's another big plus.
The only thing is the Century 200 has a few quirks I've gotta fix. The FX Loop has a hum to it, I've gotta clean the pots in front, soldier the footswitch cause I think the wires are a little loose and get a new Randall logo in the front. Any ideas on where I can find an amp tech to help make this thing beautiful again? Preferably a guy in the NY area. The guts are all fine, it's just been gigged with for about 9 years and looks like it too. Also, for you guys with any of these amps, do you have some good settings to start with? I do play some crazy metal, but lately I'm into some nice blues/rock/jam type stuff. I've got an MXR EVH Phase90 and I might grab a delay unit of some sort, but that's gonna wait for another spending spree.

A short clip (Using beatcraft)
by mpire on Tue Dec 13, 2005 2:13 pm
Sadly I managed to eq the drum track a bit too much anyway. oh well, sounded ok on the headphones.
http://www.mpire.vg/tunes/bc2.mp3
Think the timing may be off on the second part..
It started just tooling around with beatcraft. when I had a structure for the different parts I rendered them out to seperate wavs (with audio tails, which is a nice feature. If you want to make loops you can set the transients to be at the beginning), then imported into PT.
The worlds freedom is getting narrowed down.
And it's all starting in America, the land of the free
(rougly translated and somewhat shortened.)
It's the american organization, The Music Publishers Association
who next year will launch an expanded campaign towards
filesharers. This will include prohibiting unlicensed lyrics, descriptions
of chords and fingerings on the fretboard for free. Lauren Keiser
of MPA also says that the sentences for those violating the copyright laws
should be much harder. Furthermore, Keiser indicates
that doing some jailtime would be suitable for this crime.
Yes, this means that learning songs described via
unlicensed tabs makes you a criminal. Is that a country to be proud of?
The land of the free ... Come again.
Ship it or check it as luggage ?

I have a guitar that I need to get from Chicago to Phoenix. My options are to pack it up and ship it (UPS), or pack it up and check it as luggage on my flight back. Which do you think is safest ? Thx.
Interview with Pantera anno 1993

VINNIE PAUL
Born on 11th March, 1964, Vinnie Abbott grew up an archetypal home-loving Texas boy, though he admits that even at an early age there were certain against the grain qualities to his character. Despite his parents divorcing while he was in Seventh Grade, Vinnie is proud of coming from a supportive, loving family, something that would eventually benefit himself and younger brother Darrell (a.k.a. Pantera's Diamond Darrell). His father Jerry was a professional country and western musician who became involved in studio work and sometimes would take Vinnie and Darrell along to observe as local stars cut their records. The young lads soon decided what they wanted to do in later life.
"That was a real important time for me, and many years later those experiences helped me to co-produce Pantera," drawls Vinnie, who was co-credited with Terry Date on 1991's explosive 'Vulgar Display Of Power' LP. "I'm real knowledgeable in the studio," he adds.
However proud Vinnie's dad must have been, the air turned blue on the day that his eldest son came home from school clutching a tuba ("he said, '%$#@! that, you're not gonna be a tuba player, you're gonna play the drums' - and I'm so pleased that he did", recalls Vinnie). Having taught himself to play the instrument that his dad had selected, and not being a particularly keen scholar, in 1981, Vinnie teamed up with his brother to form their very first band... Pantera.
"Yeah, Darrell and I have always played together," explains the amiable sticksman with the gift of the gab, adding: "We met Rex [Brown, bassist] when we played with a jazz band at High School."
Commencing with the 'Metal Magic' album in 1983 and with Terry Lee preceding current Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo at the microphone, the band named themselves after the Spanish word for 'panther' and cut a string of self-financed albums for their own Metal Magic label. These were appreciated by the critics, but failed to sell in large numbers. Eventually, Lee wanted to take the band in a more commercial direction so quit to form Lord Tracy (originally known as Tracy Lords, after the porn star), who cut the 'Deaf Gods Of Babylon' in 1989.
After a run of misfit singers, Pantera were joined by Phil Anselmo for 1988's 'Power Metal' album. However, despite the usual rave reviews, the band were not destined to move into the big league till Atco snapped them up two years later for their major label debut, 'Cowboys From Hell'.
"Although it was a frustrating time, those years were irreplaceable," observes Vinnie now. "It wasn't like those bands that come together in a garage and then have to go out and play before they're ready. We knew that we had something good to offer and that if we stuck with if for long enough that it'd pay off, and that's exactly what happened."
Sadly, there's little realistic chance of these independent releases being re-issued. Pantera retain the rights to them all and despite having received many offers persist in the belief that making them available again would be a backwards step. Of course, their reluctance might also have something to do with a dodgy spandex-orientated image that was typical of the era.
"The record label [Atco] have already offered to buy up the rights," affirms Vinnie cautiously. "People that know Pantera in 1993 are not familiar with that stuff, and it's a different Pantera to the one that's around today. We look at those records as our demo tapes - except that they're documented on vinyl. If you were around to support the band back then you got a collector's item and also to see us go from point A to point Z. Everyone else is familiar with the band the way we are now, and that's the way we'd like it to be."
I ask Vinnie to describe the other three members of Pantera, and he chuckles: "Well, Rex is thin, mean, angry and drunk. Darrell is one helluva guitar player. He's got too much character and he's always up to something. When he's onstage, Phil appears to be a complete wild maniac, but he's pretty in control. He's a cool dude and one of the best frontmen I've ever seen. One thing that's common between us is our sense of humour - we laugh at ourselves a lot."
Vinnie is under no illusions regarding his role in Pantera. "Besides playing the drums I'm the backbone of this band," he states decisively. "I keep an eye on the business side that the others either don't have the time or care to keep track of. I work closely with the management and the agent who books the gigs. If you don't look after all that stuff then someone's gonna %$#@! you, and the band will end up folding. If you don't have a business-like attitude then you might end up working at a gas station."
Strangely, despite the fact that his band have played on stages in Russia, Japan, Europe and all over the States, the drummer says he wouldn't describe himself as an exhibitionist.
"There's no showing off involved with what Pantera do," he insists. "We've been doing this for 10 years and it feels completely natural. There's no ego required and nobody gets stage fright. Each one of us knows what the rest of the band is capable of, and we bust our asses to put it out as hard as we can every night."
Outside of Pantera, sports occupy a great deal of Vinnie's time. A fanatical follower of the Dallas Cowboys, an American football team, the drummer's looking forward to seeing his idols "kicking the asses" of rival club the Philadelphia Eagles and progressing to this year's Superbowl. But naturally it's Pantera that occupies most of his waking hours, and he points out that the band's resilience has forced them into a position of prominence.
"What we're doing is very different to what else is out there," believes Vinnie. "The lyrics are very important; they supply something to believe in, which is a good thing."
We close by discussing the accuracy of Pantera's public face. They're perceived by many as shaven-headed, fist-waving, baby-eaters. For instance, would a hardman like Vinnie Paul be prepared to help a little old lady across the road?
"Absolutely," he chuckles warmly. "The image and anger of our music comes from things that happen in life, but if you look closely enough at the songs then there's a resolution in most of them. That's the meaning of our music. We all believe in honesty and traditional values. If there was an old lady about to get run over, none of us would hesitate... just sit there and say, 'Look at that old bitch' and leave her to die. That's not us at all."
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
PHILIP ANSELMO
Away from the stage, Pantera's bellowing, seething, hairless frontman has an equally intense persona. He articulates his thoughts simply yet efficiently, speaking with a quiet authority and choosing his words well. During our conversation, the line frequently goes dead for several chilling seconds at a time as Philip Anselmo deliberates over exactly the point that he wants to make. He himself knows, but takes a little time to explain...
"I'm just trying to be successful, responsible and happy," retorts Anselmo when asked to describe himself. "I'm very highly motivated."
Born in New Orleans on 30th June, 1968 - the same day as boxer Mike Tyson, as he gleefully points out - Philip's the youngest in Pantera, though you probably wouldn't believe it. Unlike the other three, his childhood was a less than straightforward one.
"My parents were confused about me, but things are smoothed over now," he relates, with an element of pride that he narrowly fails to disguise. "I was a weirdo as a kid. I had a lot of ideas on my head. I spent a lot of time alone in my room, I didn't want to do family-related things."
However, music played an enormous part in Anselmo's development and among his earliest memories is being four years old at his parents' house in the French quarter of New Orleans while they listened to Led Zeppelin and King Crimson.
Although Philip grew up thousands of miles away from his future band-mates, like them he ended up despising the so-called US education system ("having to ask to go to the bathroom was stupid," he seethes. "I regret that I didn't quit earlier"), and was duly kicked out of two different schools.
He still angrily recalls allegedly being set up for selling marijuana by a school bus driver. So the 15-year-old Philip began playing in bands, starting with a Black Sabbath/Judas Priest tribute act called Samhain (no relation to the Glenn Danzig fronted band of the same name, of course).
Eventually, sheer coincidence would link Anselmo to Pantera. Both he and his future colleagues hit line-up problems at about the same time. Terry Lee had wanted Pantera to go in a more David Lee Roth-style direction - he would call himself Terrence Lee Glaze whilst a member of Lord Tracy - but the others opposed the idea of becoming commercial. They wanted to go more extreme. Philip had also wanted his own band to toughen up. When the paths of both acts happened to collide on the club circuit, phone numbers were quickly exchanged.
"They flew me in from New Orleans and we played some old Priest and Kiss songs," recollects the singer of his fateful audition. "We smoked a joint, drank some tequila and I packed everything I had, which wasn't much, and flew to Texas to join them that same week."
As Phil points out, he has since moved back to New Orleans. For a while, though, he went along with Pantera's more glamorous look, hence the rather embarrassing snaps that later came back to haunt them in metal mags around the world. But quickly he had realised that the visuals were not for him.
"The biggest mistake that Pantera made when I joined them was having all those photos taken," winces Phil. "Back then, we were still going through the motions. We were a bar band, playing three sets a night. We weren't happy and it was destroying us. I hated all the dressing up, so we said '%$#@! it', and we ditched the whole ridiculous circus."
Anselmo's knee-jerk reaction to the preening he'd been asked to indulge in was to refrain from combing his hair - for the next four months. He also refused to take a bath for weeks on end.
"I was trippin' on acid all the time," he adds. "I became the dregs of the earth. My dreadlocks became as hard as rock, so I shaved the sides of my head to give me some breathing space." However, Phil quickly realised that the mini-Mohawk he sported circa 'Cowboys From Hell' was as much of an 'image' as the look he'd had before, so he responded by shaving his head completely.
"People who meet me after the show are scared of my appearance, but I'm a reasonable dude. I'm not gonna rattle someone just because I can. I'm into smoking and drinking, making friends and frippin girls. If a confrontation ensues then I won't ever back down unless I'm fighting a gang of football players. I can handle myself."
I don't doubt it for a nano-second. But if Vinnie's claim of being Pantera's backbone is to be believed, what personal attribute does Phil Anselmo bring?
"The element of the underground," he replies, somewhat sternly. "I bring music beyond basic heavy metal."
And how would the singer describe his band-mates?
"Darrell is an excessive drunk, an excessive white-boy genius and a man hell-bent to have fun at any cost. Rex just goes with the flow. We also have a mutual appreciation for good, bombed-out rock 'n' roll. And Vinnie? He has a love of food, a love of drink, a love of sports and a love of exactly what he does."
According to rumour, now that Pantera play the larger venues, Phil has his own dressing room wherever possible. Why does he choose to isolate himself from the rest of the group?
"They do different things than I do," he fires straight back. "I need my space to play my own kind of music."
So what will Darrell, Vinnie and Rex be blasting out their dressing room, and what do you play in yours?
"In theirs, there will be early Van Halen, Kiss and Metallica," Anselmo explains patiently. "In mine, I'll be listening to the Righteous Pigs, Morbid Angel and Suffocation. What Pantera does is pretty much a cross between the two. And although I wouldn't like to say that we sound like them, but perhaps we have the spirit or energy level of some hardcore bands like Agnostic Front."
And, in conclusion, would tattooed madman Philip help our fictional old lady across the road? You bet your sweet ass he would.
"Sure," he affirms. "I'm a firm believer in karma. What comes around goes around. If you constantly think bad things then you'll only get deeper and deeper into your own #$%@. So if you do some good things and feel good about yourself then you'll see some positive dividends."

DIAMOND DARRELL
Though I've just spent 30 minutes on the phone with him, I'm finding it difficult to dispel the belief that Diamond Darrell (born Darrell Lance Abbott on 20th August, 1966) should really have been a drummer and not a guitarist.
His dialogue is carefree, colourful and liberally punctuated with expletives. Darrell would hardly constitute ideal company for an intellectual like Magnus Magnusson or some wizened old prude like Mary Whitehouse, though Oliver Reed should look no further when in need of a drinking partner. Diamond's universe has six strings, Marshall amplification, a laminated tour pass and an unlimited backstage beer rider.
"I do kinda live in my own world," he chuckles. "I don't really understand a whole lot of that political s#%t. Maybe enough to get me by, but I don't really have time for it at all, man. I'm more into what's real on the streets than those meanies that wear suits and ties. None of us - not even Philip - are into that s#%t."
It's no great surprise to learn that Diamond Darrell is usually the one behind any tomfoolery in Pantera, providing their spirit both metaphorically and literally. He says: "Whenever anything goes wrong, I'm the guy who can always find something positive from it, or at least suggest something else to look forward to - sometimes even a solution. I always smooth things over."
His attitude to artificial stimulants is also a simple one - the more the merrier. "But it all depends upon what you're calling drugs, man," he points out. "I enjoy smoking weed [cannabis, of course] every now and again. I don't smoke it as much as Philip, but then he doesn't drink as much as me. I drink quite a bit. I like whisky and Coors Light [beer] and a little weed, but I definitely don't do cocaine. I trip a little acid now and again but that's as far as it goes. No needles or anything like that - I'm not hooked on anything."
Like sibling Vinnie, Darrell drew enormous amounts of inspiration from his father, who also played guitar and was only too happy to tutor his enthusiastic youngest son. Mr Abbott Senior certainly encouraged his young offspring to follow in his footsteps.
"We'd go and see dad play his gigs and Vinnie and I knew straight away that was for us," exclaims Darrell. "When I was young, I wanted to be Ace Frehley. I'd skip school, stay home and dress up like frackin' Ace... put on my Kiss records. My dad got me my first guitar. It was a Gibson, just like Ace's. The old man was always right behind me. Sure, he told us some stories 'n' s#%t about the things that could go wrong in the music business, but he pretty much left me to make up my own mind."
The fledgling Darrell was obsessed with his guitar, such trivialities as getting an education passing him by completely.
"I tried Sunday school and church once or twice, but those weren't my kind of people," he states. "%$#@!, all I'd do was fall asleep. All people there would do was snicker at you because I've had long hair since I was six. I wasn't into school either, I'd be out gigging five or six times a week and then we'd be up till four in the morning drinking. I'd just hear the bell ringing and wake up in the classroom with slobber drooling out of my mouth. The best thing I ever did in my life was quit school."
Darrell admits that his rebellious streak sometimes got him into trouble with the police, especially in his younger days. He was arrested for throwing illegal parties and driving hotrods. Mostly, though, his income was derived from legal sources. Indeed, while Pantera's early years were something of a trial in terms of obtaining recognition, they were surprisingly well rewarded in financial terms.
"We made pretty good money playing the clubs," he admits. "We'd play six nights week, but pull in around $200. That was a lot more than MOTHER******* I knew that worked at the Seven-Eleven. That experience kept the band improving all the while. We worked so hard for so long to pull this together, then when Philip arrived on the scene the chemistry really came together. That's why this all succeeded."
The axeman is temporarily stumped when I ask him to provide descriptions of his band-mates. "Jeez, you can see why I don't write lyrics," he guffaws. "Okay, Philip is bald, ferocious, serious - very serious - musical, emotional and extremely expressive. He's a very intense person. Rex is my bud - he's thin, drunk and mean. Solid as %$#@!. If you took him to an ice-cream parlour with 31 flavours, he'd have vanilla. He likes things straight. And Vinnie... he's my best friend and my brother, he kills the drums."
Finally, would Darrell agree to help our theoretical little old lady across the road?
"Well, that'd depend on when he was crossing the street," he replies in all seriousness. "%$#@! it, I'm a dude who if he sees some bum, he'll be the first to break out a dollar. I'll open a door for anybody, anytime. I'm not always terrorising people. So I might help that little old lady, but sometimes I might not."

REX
Like the Abbott brothers, surname-less bass player Rex (born to the Brown family, but credited in the group's glammed-up independent days as Rex Rocker!) lives in Arlington, Texas. Born some miles away in a town called Grahm ion 27th July, 1964, the four-stringer came from a close-knit background, although his father died when he was seven. He had a solitary sister who was 17 years older than him and had already moved out, admitting that his mum spoiled him a little.
"My mother was very loving and my sister's family was very involved with what I did, but I was definitely a very rebellious little fuckhead," he chortles. "That's just a part of my character. Without a father it was sometimes a little difficult, but mostly it was cool."
Like the others, Rex had his fair share of run-ins with the law, but he explains: "When you live down here in the redneck part of the woods, it's not very hard to get in trouble."
School, it seems was another trial. Stop me if you think you've heard this before, but Rex offers: "I wasn't a good student at all, but I do like to think I'm fairly smart. I didn't graduate from High School, but I really didn't care for it - except for the jazz band - which is where I met Vince and Darrell."
Unlike the Abbotts, however, Rex was a good Protestant boy whose family regularly attended church. He did so too till the age of 16, even going to far as to join the choir, though these days he has little time at all for religion at. However, music has been in Rex's blood for as long as he can recall. He was given a snare drum at the age of seven and began dabbling in guitar a year later.
Now here's an uncanny thing: each member of Pantera bought the same first album. Like the others, a 13-year-old Rex purchased 'Alive', 1975's essential double-concert platter, and it changed his life. He says: "I had 'Destroyer' [from 1976], too. Kiss was it for me, they really made me want to be in a band." So Rex joined a local band called Neck And The Brewheads, who quite incredibly continue to exist today.
"I've been playing with them again recently," he imparts. "We actually did some gigs together while I was at home over Christmas. We just play a bunch of Stones, Cream and Zeppelin songs - it's just for fun.
A 13-year-old Darrell, who at the time was something of a wheeler-dealer, often supplied the PA for the Brewheads' gigs. Lengthy post-gig booze sessions would often then ensue ("We all drank fairly early in life," recollects the bassist fondly). Rex and Vinnie became good pals and would often end up jamming Rush's '2112' in the jazz band, and it's no coincidence that Rex claims they were eventually ejected from its somewhat staid confines for playing too loudly. So Vinnie and Darrell wound up firing the bassist they'd been working with till then and Rex found himself a new band. Little did he or any of Pantera know how hard they'd have to work before any real success came their way.
"Even in the earliest days, gigs were pretty hard to come by. But I wouldn't change a lick of it because those days gave us a lot of experience and prepared us for what we're up against now. And I think that maybe a lot of the struggling that we did can he heard in our music," he theorizes.
On a personal level, Rex describes himself as an optimist. This quality came in usefully during Pantera's formative days. However, he can also be a little insecure about things.
"Basically, I'm always looking to better what I'm doing," he qualifies. "My role in Pantera is to hold things together. You need somebody to supply the glue; that guy's me."
When asked to describe his three associates, Rex is at first reluctant, but then agrees. "Darrell is talented, manipulative and he's a really caring person - he tries to hide it, bus he is," he reveals. "Darrell and I are pretty close. We spend a lot of time together when we're off the road.
"Vinnie is the guy I've known the longest of them all. He's a smart businessman; he always takes care of business. A bad-ass drummer, too. And Phil is a one-off. He's powerful. He can be frippin strange at times, and he's very intelligent."
The bassist confirms that Anselmo can be a bit of a loner while Pantera are on tour, but doesn't necessarily see that as a bad thing. After all, everybody needs their space, and Rex sees no problem in having Phil in one dressing room and everybody else in another.
"I think it's kinda healthy for him," he opines. "Phil didn't grow up around us, and he's also younger. We like the Dallas Cowboys and he likes the [New Orleans] Saints, that's just the way that it is. Sure, there are sometimes problems caused by that, but it's something that you'll always run into when four individuals are eating, sleeping and breathing each other's s#%t every day of the year. That diversity is important to this band's sound; it's what makes us individual. I don't want to make comparisons to what people might have thought when Metallica's first album came out, but our sound's powerful and in-your-face, too."
Hmmm... that's interesting. Is Rex equating Pantera's emergence in the same groundbreaking terms as Lars Ulrich and company?
"Without sounding completely egotistical?" he muses. "Well, I would hope that we could be. It's something that we've worked really hard for. The last album [1992's 'Vulgar Display Of Power'] went gold here in the States, and I think the kids are really starting to latch onto us."
And would Rex agree to help our now almost legendary old lady across the street if she required his help?
"Surely... and then I'd ask her to buy me a beer!"

Are there tonal defferences between the Randall RG100's
by rgx612a on Tue Dec 13, 2005 11:36 pm
I mean the different types. Like The Vinyl Covered RG100ES, the carpeted RG100ES, the rackmounted HT version etc... Oh, and what about earlier rg100es models with the white face and the later models with the black face? Any differences? Just curious.
I'm assuming they all have the exact same circuit, and the only differences being their appearance, but who knows?
Now, this may be a stupid question, considering the fact that I have been on this forum for a little while, but of the series 1, series 2 and series 3, which V headstock in which (in size I mean)?
Well it looks like everything in the musical industry is becoming ILLEGAL!!!! Why? Because the dirty bass terds that work for the MPA are frigging losers that want to take away all our fun and education.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/4508158.stm
Me personally speaking,
I think the tabs at MXTabs.net and anywhere else should stay up and the owners of those domains shouldnt be fined or have anything put on them as punishment, why? BECUASE THE TABS ARE FROM NORMAL CITIZENS AROUND THE WORLD THAT THINK THEY FIGURED OUT HOW TO PLAY A CERTAIN SONG CORRECTLY BY EAR! Now, As most people know, alot of tabs out there are sometimes correct and alot of the times wrong. But why should the MPA take action on our opinions and our learning experiances?
Frankly, everyone could sue those MPA members for taking away our education. Whether you think it or not, playing a musical instrument is a form of education. This crap about copyright stuff, The tabs are just people putting out what they played by ear that sounded like a certain song, It's not like they stole the sheet music.
So I think the MPA needs to get a life, and btw... Music downloading is illegal but they can't get you anymore for doing it. Because they have to hack a server and find all the P2P transfers, And there's something somewhere that says P2P is free and cannot be charged. So giving someone else a song through P2P isnt really illegal unless you sell it to someone.
I'm not suggesting you go out downloading songs, I'm just saying the MPA is basicly a tard group that needed something to do...

Mine is definately "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" classic.
What's yours?
So you have a $1,000.00 to spend....
What do you buy?
I thinks it's very interesting to hear what you think a grand is well spent on.
Restrict it to guitars and or gear.... but it needs to be no more than $1,000.00

Critiques would be wonderful along with tips..
Thanks
Im looking for a new guitar, probably in the 200 dollar range
Im tried a few guitars at my local sam ash but they didnt have any deans on the wall
however there was a washburn dime-o-flage ml and i tried it out, the neck wants to hit the floor because of its inbalance but that just made me want to play it harder, but that was a washburn ml and i dont know if the deans are the same, i didnt try any V's
there was an ltd ec-50 that had a great feel, balance and tone, the 24 frets were nice too
also there was a bc rich warlock with a floyd for the price i was a looking for but it was too high up on the wall to get my hands on, didnt want to end up knocking something down and making a fool out of myself, bastards...
anyway just looking for feedback from the veterans of metal wars...
I play a wide variety of music, acoustic, blues, heavty metal, shred and im looking for a reliable and versatile guitar for the next couple of years, until i step up to the next level
My squire strat is pretty good, for blues and such, but the single coils arent doing it for me, I could upgrade them but why do that when i can get a whole new guitar and expand my collection
I used to have an epiphone lp special 2 but i gave that to my sister, its a great guitar to start playing with, but i do miss it
the warlock with the floyd would be badass but i think i might get confused, too many moving parts, i want to build my true skill before i jump into the divebombing, bend twisting vortex of noise
anyway this post is too long as it is, but dont be afraid to shout back
thanks!
Uploading sounds

I have a wicked short clip that I recorded and want suggestions on improving the quality of the recording itself. I was planning on uploading it for people on the forum here but I do not know the best method in which that would be done. Any tips to lead to more tips?
Okay, I'm bored, gassing for an ESP SV, and don't have nearly enough money for one . So, here's the deal. Right now my only electric is all taken apart and waiting on a new floyd and some pickups(REAL Bill Lawrences.) The only playable guitar I have is my crappy acoustic. It's probably going to be a few months before my electric is up and running(unless one of you is willing to sell me a REAL Bill Lawrence 500-XL and 500R or whatever the rythem one is. So, I need (and was looking for, before I took apart my ML) a new guitar. I can't decide on one though. What I want is a Gibson V in white with a rounded headstock or a razorback two tone. I was VERY intent on getting one, but didn't. I've been looking for the right V for months and just can't find it . Some things that suck are, that GAS might get the best of me and I buy a guitar before all the new models are unvailed(I'm interested in Alexi's new sig.) or I get a guitar when the new modles are out and see the V I've been looking for . What should I do, I really need your guys's help. Thanks in advance.
PS: I've tried calling Bill Lawrence's phone number on the site but my phone is being a jackass or something and says I can't make a call to that number. I tried emailing him about a month ago and haven't got a reply. These are the pickups I'm GOING to get and that's final. Any suggestions on that or are you willing to sell me some?
for those that dont check the dealer thread : Razorback porn
sorry i am just so excited to see them finally. I dont even have near enough to get one but i am still happy none the less

Sorry about not answering the PM's, but I was taking a Dean Forum Holiday!! As I said, i will pop in from time to time to check em, but you may be waiting a long time for a response! So, for all who asked, I added the e-mail link in my profile! If you want to to chat with ole Diz, that would be the best way!
And Tom, I don't think you can "open" a PM, it just doesn't leave your outbox until the reciever logs in! Thanks for reminding me why this place has been driving me nuts!!!!
Peace Out

The "Honky Tonk'er" is finished - Porn inside
by Mike9 on Thu Dec 15, 2005 6:11 pm
Man I loved building these relic guitars - they are so much fun. This one has some extreme playwear - about what I'd expect from a 30 year old Honky Tonk axe that's been rode hard and put away wet every night. Every aspect of the aging and modding of it was given a lot of thought to get the wear in the right spot and how a guitarist would mod his own axe. The body is an 80's Squier MIK - alder with a thin two tone burst finish. It came with a finish flaw and was the perfect candidate for the relic process. The neck is flame maple with a Brazilian rosewood board. I put a "V" profile on it and it feels as good as it looks. What looks raw is sealed with my own concoction that I use on all the necks I do now only this one looks dirty (as it should). The pickups are Duncans in the neck and middle and Fender Texas Special fitted with a Callaham base plate in the bridge. The switching and pots are all stock Fender. This thing sings, squacks and chugs with the best of 'em. Tuner holes were filled and I found some Sperzels in relic condition - and nothing goes with Sperzels like a LSR roller nut - the trem action on this baby is smooth. NOTE: Duncan and Fender single coil pickups DO NOT MIX - they run horribly out of phase in the #2 position. I tried several work arounds, but with the same result so I moved the SSL-1's down to bridge and middle and put a Duncan APS-1 Alnico II in the neck - now all is well and the tone will make you melt
Here's the whole enchilada from the front:
And the back:
Playwear everywhere:
The plastic aged up nicely - and the pickup covers and knobs are 25 years old.
And what's a headstock without a cigarette burn?
Can someone post a good pic of the Tribute one, not Dimes. I lost all my pictures of it somewhere. Thanks in advance.
the scanner doesnt do the shading a whole lot of justice
but i wanted you guys opinions on it..whattaya think?
I hate skateboards.
by Zepher on Thu Dec 15, 2005 9:48 pm
Every little boy gets a skateboard and then shortly after realizes that they do not really want to use it. It happened to me. However, now that same frivolous object is keeping me from getting my MLF. I've been trying to sell the thing for weeks to get the last 100 bucks for the new guitar and all my buyers keep backing out. I just really hate skateboards right now.

COMING FROM FUNKYMUNKY MUSIC
CANT WAIT
can someone help me out...I don't really know the difference between all the types of necks (bolt-on, nuck-thru...) can someone please give me some pics of the different types and why these are so different from each other?
also, is it really worth all that extra money?
I for one will be staying up until they go back on sale tomorrow, and buying the other two I dodn't get. Just thought I'd share with you guys.
www.357customs.com
go to the store, and click on gift certificates. Buy any of the $100 Gift certificate with a die cast model (one of zakk's bike models), and you'll get a free Epi. I can't guarantee that its 100% legit, but I'm convinced. I've talked directly with Chad (owner of 357), and He has told me its for real. I sure hope it is, because I'm gonna loose some serious dough if it isn't
Guitars don't ship until March, but you'll get all the other stuff as soon as they receive payment.
By March, I'm gonna have me a razorback
good theory/scale cord music site ?
well i have been playing a while now over 4 years and still really dont know much theory or how stuff ties into one another . I am going to have a lot of time over X-mas break and i figured it would be a great time to learn and practius theory scales and chords and all that stuff .
Anyone have a good recommendation for a site DVD or book that easier to follow and starts at a ground level and works up to complet or semi-complet concept of theory . I am a slower learner and for me repition is key .
Im gonna buy a new dean in a few days my choices are between a black gold V or ml or the same in the 79 reissues , any feedback which is better .
any feedback is cool thanks .
man this guy is freakin weird , but he strangness fails to compare to his talent .
this is really the first actual video of him playing that i have seen. Even then he doesn't play much

Well, it looks like they've won .......
Going over to powertabs.net to download some new tabs and guess what it says when i go to download the file ......
IMPORTANT: Tab downloading is disabled for now. More information will be posted soon.
Looks like that #$%@ we read last week is coming into effect. This really sucks big ones.
Extremely dissappointed when plugged in!
I have had my exotiglass for about 4 years now. I have loved the thing: the action, the sound (though not as loud, still quite crisp), the range. However, i recently discovered that when plugged into a pa or other speaker device, it has a horrible sound. The low end strings and chords are extremely loud and prevalent, then when i move to higher strings, you can barely hear them!
Is this a common problem with acoustics? is it because the electronics are cheap or because of the position of them inside the guitar? Is there anything i can do about this? I really need to fix this so i can play live and not be worried the whole time about my sound.
Thanks

This song will get your audiences attention!
It's several hundred years old.
It's a Scottish folk tale of a young lad going to fight. He is told to wear his cap high and proud on his head. He wears a traditional animal skin cap. Made from a beaver pelt.

This is absolutely ridiculous!!!
the MPA goes around shuttin down tab sites just because publishers cant squeeza some extra pennies out of the public and when you want to buy a book, the one you want is out-of-print!
I say the publishers dont deserve that money in the first place if they cant keep the market satisfied, why do you think people are going to tab sites in the first place, because the tabs WE want arent in books!
there arent no motorhead tab books! whats going on with that?
its absolute F#@KIN BULLSH!T!!!

i have an oportunity o buy a jacksom super strat type guitar..it is an older one (bolt on) with a floyd licensed trem. for 200 with case.. is it worth it.. seems like an alright guitar i couldnt see a model number on it. it has a seymore duncan in the bridge and a stocker in the neck..
i dont know much about jacksons so i am sasking you guys..
How did you start out playing?
I am starting to play guitar now for real, i'm getting a Dean ML 79 (lefty) and just wanted to know how some of you guys started out, what did you play? Did you know any techniques etc???
Has anyone tried this head and what do they think of it? I've read nothing but good reviews about it os far. So I figured I'd ask on here so i could probably see the positive rumors debunked.

hello to everyone, im Carlo Mariano, a.k.a. "pinoy" (slang for Filipino) from the Philippines. 2 years ago, i met Joe from Japan in a yahoogroup that he started back then. we finally met in person, joe's here in Manila for a short vacation, and will be leaving this comin sunday. he asked me to join the Dean Forum, and told me how great the members here are, and also, he actually met some of you in person too already... Joe told me too how a very nice guy Mr. Dean himself is.
..lookin forward to learn a lot from you gentlemen, and hopefully i can grab one too of mr. dean's very fine creations.

Just wanted share this "inspirational" thought with you all:
"There's nothing that can duplicate the sheer power and feeling you get from standing in front of your amp and bashing on your guitar"
(quoted from an old interview with James Hetfield)

I'm curious about this amp, could you all tell me about it?
Who do you guys like better, overall... sound, style, influence.. all that
I'm a Sabbath man myself.
*EDIT* ANY version of Sabbath counts.
Just finished up on my squire tele that I got a little while back.
She started out as a Squire Tele SE Black and Chrome edition
Started out by losing the cheapo tuners and replacing them with 18:1 Locking Grovers.
Changed out all the electronis. Installed a GFS Lil Puncher set. A Hot neck and a Modern Vintage in the bridge. Changed out the pots to 500k Gibson USA pots and made them 2 volumes and lost the tone knob. Put on all black hardware.
put new knobs with a shell top to match the new pearloid pickguard.
Shes got an unfinished neck with a nice mild C shape thats really comfortable.
For the price of a Mexican I now have a Tele that plays and sounds as nice as any USA I have ever played.
Well, I was thinking, since I love Dean V's, i figured "Hey, why not start a V thread?" so here it is. Post your Dean V guitars here.
and please, Only Dean V's.
Really need some info, after i have been playing my guitar for quite a long time the sides of my fingers hurt like hell, it's not because there tired, It feels like there getting splinters from the strings or something
It's really saw and it means i can't really play guitar for a couple of days, it keeps happening!!
Anyone know whats happening? and how i can prevent it?
Thanks
An Idea (please read this, I'm looking for fast responses)
Okay, I'm talking to my dad about a guitar for christmas, I ONLY want a Dean flying V guitar. if you guys could please inform me about the best Dean flying V's (preferably black) as well as an amplifier that is MADE for playing things like Metal, I'm going out today to get ink cartrdges for my printer so if you could please post pics of both for me. I really appreciate this guys, thanks!
*sorry if I misspelled anything, I'm typing REALLY fast*
Who has upgraded their Dime o Flame's trem?
I tried an original Floyd Rose and a Schaller on mine... It looks like I will have to route the top of the trem cavity out more on the low E side. Anybody do this or know of a good trem that is a direct replacement?
Thanks!
u know when u measure the neck does the scale length and heel width mean the same thing?
u see im wanting to get this neck on ebay and its heel lenght is 2 3/16 my guitar is spaced for a 25/5 scale length
so i dont know if the 23/16 is the scale length or not?
please help its ending very soon
so my question is im running 1 cab at 8 ohms.theres a switch on the back of my marshall 8 and 16 ohms.so when the switch on the back is on 8 ohms is that 8 ohms per speaker jack??can i run 2 8 ohm cabs???or does the 2 cabs pluged into both jacks drop it to 4ohms per jack??.
How To Avoid Finish Cracks?
by JACKHOLE on Sun Dec 18, 2005 12:02 am
I'm fairly sure that my wife is buying me a new guitar for Christmas, but she will be getting it mail order.I've read some horror stories here about finishes cracking from going into a warm room from cold weather.Would keeping it in the garage for a couple of hours help? I'm concerned because I'm afraid that she'll have it shipped to her mother's house(where we are spending Christmas)and her mom knows zip about guitars.
What the **** is this, and how the Hell do you play it?

Notice the "DIME" on the headstock.

Santas Go on Rampage in New Zealand
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) - A group of 40 people dressed in Santa Claus costumes, many of them drunk, rampaged through New Zealand's largest city, robbing stores and assaulting security guards, police said Sunday.
The rampage, dubbed ``Santarchy'' by local newspapers, began early Saturday afternoon when the men, wearing ill-fitting Santa costumes, threw beer bottles and urinated on cars from an Auckland overpass, said Auckland Central Police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty.
She said the men then rushed through a central city park, overturning garbage containers, throwing bottles at passing cars and spraying graffiti on buildings.
One man climbed the mooring line of a cruise ship before being ordered down by the captain. Other Santas, objecting when the man was arrested, attacked security staff, Hegarty said.
The remaining Santas entered a downtown convenience store and carried off beer and soft drinks.
``They came in, said 'Merry Christmas' and then helped themselves,'' store owner Changa Manakynda said.
Alex Dyer, a spokesman for the group, said Santarchy was a worldwide movement designed to protest the commercialization of Christmas.
Three people were arrested and charged with drunkenness and disorderly behavior.

okay, I just bought a left handed gibson LP studio. this thing is absolutely incredible. Ive never played a guitar with such good action. my 79 LP custom doesnt even compare to this thing. however, its tone is MUCH worse than my old LP custom. my question is, do they use 250K pots in the studio's or did my custom have such good tone because ot was a vintage or because of its ebony fretboard? because I swear, if this studio had my custom's tone, youd have to pry this guitar from my lifeless fingers. but seriously, whats the deal?

Need Help Coffin Case Shopping..
Nothing to really do with Deans.. but I dont want to spend $150 in a bad way..
I am looking for a coffin case for my warlock.. I found out that I need a 3000 model to fit it (3000 models fit basses and warlocks).. and I want the purple one, so its the 3000-P I am looking for..
I found a couple sites that have them.. one of them is missing a picture so its confusing, and the other says it costs " £75.00 " (I have no idea what currency that is.. I need it to translate into Canadian dollars..)
The third one I found is out of stock.
Here are the links to see what I mean:
http://www.piedog.com/musical_instruments/guitar/guitar_accessories/cases/coffin_case-3000_p.htm?ts_8696
http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp?ItemID=46566&TempID=5&departmentid=0
And this one looks trustworthy and stuff, but the picture of the case looks different than the other ones.. :S How weird, it says they are the exact same model:
http://www.bostonguitar.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=BGWI&Product_Code=MISC-COFF-3000P&Category_Code=MISC-COFF
So if anyone knows any good music dealership sites please post em up.. The official coffin case site has the model I want for $160 about.. and all these others ones I found are $130.. so that saves a lot for me. So I want to browse around as much as possible and find the best possible offer.
Thanks
Mike
Good 'Ol Montana Cowboys - Yuck
A young cowboy walked into a seedy cafe in Great Falls, MT, sat down at the counter and noticed an old cowboy with his arms folded staring blankly at a full bowl of chili.
After ordering coffee and watching the old
hand just sit there and stare at the bowl for about
ten minutes, the young cowboy bravely asked the old
cowpoke, "If you ain't gonna eat that, mind if I do?"
The older cowboy slowly turned his head toward
the young wrangler and in his best cowboy manner said,
"Nah, I've sorta lost my appetite, you go right ahead."
Eagerly, the young cowboy reached over, slid The bowl over to his place at the counter and started spooning it in with delight. He got near the bottom and noticed a dead mouse in the chili. The sight was shocking and he immediately puked up the chili
into the bowl.
The old cowboy quietly said, "Yep, that's as far as I got,
too."
So i was reading a review on the line 6 HD 75 head and it got a good rating, so i went on the line 6 website ans listened to the sound clips for the metal channel and it sounded like SHI-T
I thought it was meant to be good, the metal channel just sounded like fuzz
Who has this head and cab? and what do u guys think of it?
Should i buy one?

Randall RG100ES a noisy amp? What do you use?
by rgx612a on Sun Dec 18, 2005 10:06 pm
I find this amp to be quite hissy and have alot of hum, especially at higher gain settings. So what do you guys use (assuming yours are noisy too) for a noise suppressor or gate or whatever? I hear bad things about them, being tone suckers and stuff. I want something that'll retain all the sound qualities of the amp, but take away all that noise when I'm not playing.
$15 iTunes giftcard. What do I get?
So a family friend gave me a 15$ iTunes gift card, but i have no idea what to get.... I would honestly prefer to have the actual cd and burn it so i get the cool case to add to my collection. I'm trying to decide between COC something, Down II, Rush which i honestly and shamefully can say i dont have any of, reinventing the steel/FBD, something ozzy, or something totally new. Lately i have been in a musical slump. I find it hard to find something that fits my mood. Any suggestions?

Now here's the thing - there are links to eBay that are legit embeded in the email, but the "Respond Now" link is bogus and takes you to this bogus log in page: http://iris.dwcrc.co.kr/.cgi-bin/signin.ebay.com/ws/ebayISAPI.dllUPdate/index.html This is definately not eBay so beware when you get strange emails like this they are fishing for sure. I copy and paste all link locations in emails that I don't trust - that way I can read the link address and many of them go over seas - you can't be too carefull.[/url]
I recall seeing someon (Tom maybe?) that had snagged a blue Samick and loved it. I found one on ebay with a trem that I could snag for cheap. And it's in Ocala which isn't all that far away...
I am not looking to use this guitar as a main stage guitar, I've got my Evos for that. But I do want a gtr with a trem. I've been looking at the PRS CE and Standard lines, but I the auctions always seem to skyrocket at the end. I've been trying to avoid paying 11-1300 bucks for it. I may just have to bite the bullet and drop the cash...
So, are the Samicks any good? If so, should I get the samick or have more patience and wait for a cheap PRS CE/Standard?
Merry Christmas!

I remember the 50-100 shows a year of my youth well. Didn't see that many this year but I did see these bands this year:
Steve Vai with Eric Sardenas (You need to check out Eric.) Tampa,Fl.
Motley Crue Jacksonville,Fl.
Velvet Revolver Tampa
Judas Priest with Queensryche Tampa
Cheap Trick Miller Beer/Rusty Wallace Last Tour Thing Tampa
Ted Nugent with April Wine St. Paul,Mn.
Velvet Revlover in Jacksonville, Only about 1800 there. I had front row Balcony center WOW!
finally, in November, I went to my 50th Aerosmith show in Columbus, Ohio, so far that is.....
Hmmm lil heavy on the oldie acts but Damn good Rawk 'N' F'kn Roll baby!!
Gonna start 2006 with two Aerosmith shows 10 days apart in January and Motley Crue off on the horizon on February 10th, and a Bon Jovi show 2/18, MAYBE. Should be a great year to be 45!
Still trying to twist my arm to go to Dallas on 1/27 to see Aerosmith the night before my birthday and see them every 10 days in January. I figure after all was said and done doing that though, it would equal the cost of a custom order guitar, Dean or nice down payment on a Hamer, and THAT might be the better birthday present.
I just watched the DVD Concerto Suite for Electric Guitar and Orchestra]Yngwie Johann Malmsteen: Concerto Suite for Electric Guitar and Orchestra in Eb Minor. It is nothing short of stupendous. Recorded in 2001 and just recently released, it is a live show of Yngwie playing with the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. Yngwie took some of his songs and wrote orchestrations for them making them almost sound like a sound track for a big budget movie ala John Williams (Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jaws, etc.).
If you don't like classical music, then you probably will not like this DVD. But if you do, you are in for a treat of serious riffage and shredding mixed with traditional music. Unlike Metallica that just kind of tacked on an orchestra for their CD S&M, Ynqwie blends seamlessly with the orchestra creating a sonic experience that I have never quite experienced. I picked up the DVD from Amazon.com for $10.99 and it is worth every penny. A crowning acheivement for a highly influential guitarist at the top of his game. A must have addition to any guitarist's collection.
Anyone using G12H30 speakers?
Anyone using G12H30 speakers?
I've got various 4x12 cabs with Vintage 30's and Greenbacks in them.
I'm always looking for something to vary my tones. I'm starting to hear lots of good things about G12H30's, particularly in the way they handle bass response in distorted guitars.
Any opinions appreciated.

Amp suggestions...
by ninjasx on Mon Dec 19, 2005 6:24 pm
Right I finally got fed up with waiting for my Randall X2 to be repaired, long story short I have owned it a year and It has been in for repair for 6 of those So I have demanded a refund and now I`m looking for a new amp.
The ones I am thinking of are:
Peavey XXX or JSX
ENGL Powerball or Blackmore
Now, I really dig Dimebag`s sound so I want something capable of that sort of sound, But I have a setup that nails it already so I want some diversity straight from the amp without needing to use my rack for ease of dragging it out to bandpractice;) listening to the clips on www.rocksolidamps.com the Blackmore seems to get pretty close, can the Powerball do the same? all the clips for the powerball are deathmetal and not what I`m looking for.
what can you guys who own these recomend?
sound clips would be helpfull:)
thanks,
Mark

I'm in drum machine heaven
I just some time jamming with Groove Monkee patterns playing Drumkit From Hell Superior sounds.
Wow!
Granted, nothing beats playing with a real drummer (a good one). But the Groove Monkee patterns are incredible. It's a real drummer that created him and the guy has monster chops.
And Drumkit From Hell Superior sounds = awesome. 35 gig (not meg) of world class DW, Sonar, Ludwig drumkits (plus some others).
The combination of the two sounds like nothing I've ever heard from fake drums. It's got feel and groove. It inspired me to play more!

Has anybody else heard of the new PoE (Power over Ethernet - 802.3af standard) Gibson Les Paul?
"Gibson developed a prototype digital guitar that converts an analog signal into a high-quality digital signal inside the guitar. Stray frequencies entering the guitar pickups are completely eliminated along with analog line noise induced through the guitar cable. In other words, the limitations of analog technology are completely removed. A guitarist can run a cable over 2000 meters with no loss of audio quality."
"The technology that enables the Gibson digital guitar is an Ethernet media delivery system called MaGIC, developed by Gibson Labs. MaGIC stands for Media-accelerated Global Information Carrier and is designed to replace all wiring systems in both the musical instrument fields and consumer electronic applications. The current nest of wires behind home entertainment systems can be replaced by a single Ethernet cable. MaGIC-enabled consumer electronics devices will allow daisy chaining devices and plug-and-play capabilities."
Read more on the guitar & the technology here: http://www.gibsondigital.com/how.html
As a nerdy kind of fellow, that strikes me as being pretty cool!!
....guess I could be the only one, though...
Not sure what kind of a demographic they're going for, though. Cat5 cables are more susceptible to damage when you step on them or pull too hard on them, so I'm not sure a live show is super-feasible.

Tora Tora - Wild America
by mpire on Tue Dec 20, 2005 6:38 pm
Taking a quick timeout here for no reason at all to pump up one of my favourite CD's.
For those that don't know, Tora Tora were a really great hard rock band swept away before their time like so many others by the slimy tide of Grunge music (cmon, tell us how you really feel. )
I picked up their first LP Surprise Attack when it first came out after hearing the song Guilty one time. Awesome stuff.
for some reason I didn't get the second CD Wild America until just recently, well that was a mistake. Unlike a lot of bands, the second CD is every bit as good as the first, if not better.
One of the things I love about this band is they have a very recognisable style that comes up time and time again in the song construction and vocal hooks. Enough to set them apart from anyone else but not to the point of making it a one trick pony.
If you're into bands like Cinderella, Badlands, Bang Tango and Tesla they are well worth checking out.
The End.
I know it is made by the "W" company, but damn this a sweet looking guitar.
got the main image from that down thread..i figured itd make a cool background, hope you guys like it
Hi guys, here is the story. I won this auction on EBAY
http://cgi.ebay.com/1957-Les-Paul-Goldtop-Historic-Reissue-2002_W0QQitemZ7369611471QQcategoryZ38086QQtcZphotoQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Pretty good deal. Hey
Turns out that the guitar is in USA as per seller. But another Ebayer sent me an email to warn me about that guy. The seller told him the guitar was in the UK! Man, this thing travels more than me. The Emails from the Seller to me are one liners asking for his money( 3rd grade spelling). He also wants Western Union payment only. Note the guys feedback. He bought 6 golf balls and that's it. When I told him that having the guitar in the US vs Toronto (as per the auction) was gonna costing me $$$, he said it was is mistake so no problems deduct the extra cost form total and just send him the money. The amount he asked for didn't include shipping so I asked if shipping was free. His response was yes just send me the money. Sooooo it looks like I will be getting a Custom shop LP for $1100 US!!!!!!
Well, that would be a hell of a nice Christmas present.
I already inform Ebay of the probable scam but they basically told me that I am on my own and to be cautious. YOU THINK!!!Thanks
Does anybody has suggestions for my next steps?
