Shoplift A Guitar?
by jim6 on Tue Feb 01, 2005 10:22 pm
I was holding off on posting this until I could get a link to the online story, but I can't find it.
Last Friday night, Mary and I were watching the local newscast. Their lead story is about a robbery at Quigley Music, which is a local overpriced music store.
The reporter interviews the store manager. He tells the story of two guys hanging around the back of the store and eyeballing a couple of Rickenbackers. The two guys each grab a Rick and stuff them down their pants. Body-end first, no less. They bolt for the door and the manager chases them and pulls one of the guitars out through the passenger window.
The second one(he stated it was a prototype) was recovered from a nearby parking lot and was pretty well scuffed up.
A few things come to mind........
1. If you're going to do it, wouldn't it make more sense to have it body-end up and hide it under your shirt?
2. Just how baggy are your pants that you can get a 6-series Rick in there?
You can say a lot about the youth of today, but you certainly have to give them points for creativity.

Hey guys, i got some crap news over the weekend.
My aunt died. And my family is takin it preatty easy but it's friggin weird.
My mom's doing ok i think but deep down i know shes stressed.
I wasn't to close to her on account i never saw her much. But your prayers are all welcomed.
Also my girl friends grandpa died.
He was in a car accident earlier, was rushed to the hospital then died later. She called me once she found out and she just broke down.
I feel somewhat responeble, as her boy friend to comfort her and be there for her. Cause shes takin it really hard she was extremely close to him.
Not to mention i watched the eagles/falcons games with him a couple sundays ago.
I dont know what to feel right now it's obviously different.
I just pray everyone is ok and that we all make it together.
Thanks guys,
Best reguards
Rob.

I'm so pissed I can't see straight, especially since they told us there is no refund possible. We paid $1000 for a reason, because it wasn't PARTICLE F'n BOARD!!!!!
payment hasn't gone through on the towers to it yet, and I'm thinking of cancelling it to teach them a lesson. But they still have $500 of my money and all I have is 1/3 of a compressed sawdust piece of SH!T!!!!

digital recording on pc
by rufus on Thu Feb 03, 2005 5:20 am
Me and a friend next door have some kick arse songs, and we are planning on recording them on a computer, because my soundcard records in 24bit - 96khz. I was planning on using cool edit pro 2 to record them as i have in the past. does anyone else on here use a pc for recording and if so what software would you recommend.
Line 6 Guitar port...opinions?
I see you have to buy the $200 one to record with, but I need some way to setup and record, and since my Wife's just llearning, I thought she may like the lessons, I may as well, looks like there's some good stuff in there.
I was wandering if anyone has the Krank " Revolution 100" or at the very least has tried one out. I have checked out their website and was impressed with some of the soundclips that they have.
I am seriously thinking about getting one of these heads.
If anyone can give me any feedback on this amp it'd be very much appreciated

"Best Offer" option on Ebay
Has any one tried the "best offer" option on Ebay?
What's this all about? I see it primarily on auctions that have a "buy it now" with a best offer option. I guess if they don't sell it they can offer it to the highest bidder???
Kind of defeats the purpose of an auction... no? Just set a reserve (which I hate) or a minimum starting bid!

Dean EVO vol, tone with pull switch. what model?
by polack1 on Thu Feb 03, 2005 11:58 pm
I have a Dean EVO that has a gray quilted arched top with groover machine heads and dot inlay. 2 hb pickups. The vol and tone knobs have a switch built in. You can change the position of the switch by pulling the knobs up, or pushing them down. Can someone tell me what these switches do? Also what model of the evo s did this come on or what model i have. The guitar also has a fixed neck. As soon as I get done polishing it up and new strings on it, I'll take some pictures and post them at this link below.

I'll have the pictures posted in about a huor or two.

Gmail invites

I have some gmail invites if anyone is interested.
well, i finally got a first hand review of a 79 mlf. first i must say, the bridge is Far Beyond Crap. If you even breath on it, it will flutter. A real floyd would definately make this guitar a competitive player. But i must say, the neck was soooo smoooth. I couldnt beleive the low profile of the frets. From the factory, the setup wasn't bad at all, neither was the intonation. As for the pickups, damn... They arent the ones that say dean on them, but i must say they sound good, especially the bridge. It's nice and bittey. I think people underrate them. The neck profile is a little thick for me, but im used to playing 3 7 strings with wizzard necks (real real thin). But i like it. Tuners are of good quality too. my only complaint like everyone already knows is the bridge. But i noticed, just like in the picture on the dean site, the bridge isnt centered in the routing. Its off towards the volume knob side more. Is this normal? Does a real floyd sit even?
PS: The finish looks 10 times better in person.

Another Floyd Rose question
by tnvol on Sat Feb 05, 2005 12:34 am
What sucks so bad about the Floyds that come on the new Deans? I have never played a Floyd or any floating trem for that matter. I know they are probably licsenced Floyds but whats so bad about them? Nobody seems to think much of them.

So, what's with the trend of 15 watt hand wired tube amps that cost >$2K? I'm seeing them in my guitar mags but I can't figure why someone would want that small of an amp for that kinda money. Is the tone THAT huge? I'm just a country boy who needs an amp to get some twang on one channel and chainsaw on the other. So what gives? Anybody played one?

Advice wanted: i bought a seven string by mistake.
by Cazz on Sat Feb 05, 2005 11:52 am
okay heres what happened, i went to buy a brand new Ibanez ( sorry Dean) and the model i ordered was an RG321.
Now i get to the shop to collect the guitar, and the guy went to the back to get it. Now it was in a the box and wrapped and sealed. So im looking at a RG 321 that was on display, and the guy says, do u want to see it? so having just looked at the exact guitar im buying, i say, naa ive seen the one on display.
now i get home, and the guitar he gave me was an RG7321, the 7 string model...
now i cant decide if i should just keep it, coz its different and a new challenge, or take it back and exchange, for the exact model, only the standard six.
i phoned the guy and he says i can exchange no problem, but i have till monday to maybe change my mind.
so please any pros and cons of having the 7 would be appreciated.
I was reading the Dimebag guitar legends issue and in one of the interviews the interviewer said something to Dime like...Dean guitars has been out of business for several years so where do you find your Deans? I'm not familiar with Dean's history so did they go out of business for a period of time and then start back up again?

The most successful line up of Anthrax of Joey Belladonna vocals, Scott Ian guitars, Frank Bello Bass, Danny Spitz guitars and Charlie Benante Drums are rumored to part take in Ozzfest 10th Anniversary. Sharon Osbourne has said Anthrax can play at Ozzfest with this line up only if these members play in it. Man I hope they do and you just know if it happens good ole Dime will smile down on them.

Hi there.
Just some questions.
I've bought Guitar One for the last two months and just realised that maybe I should have received a CD with each issue. Is this the case?
Have my CD's been pinched? Or I am I just below 70 IQ type? Are there some audio files to the accompany the tab on the G1 website, and there is no CD with the mag? ?
Any help would be very gratefully received.
Thanks,
Ally.

Jim Peterik / Rik Emmett
by tess on Sun Feb 06, 2005 1:40 pm
Saw the 2005 version of "World Stage" last night. WS is Jim Peterik hosting artists that he's collaborated with over the years. This years headliners were Rik Emmett (Triumph), Tom Keifer (Cinderella) and Kelly Keagey (Night Ranger). Almost 4 hours of music with quite a diversity of styles. This year they had a wide screen over the stage and played the original video of the song while the artist was playing their signature tune. Pretty interesting. Unfortunately when Rik came out there was no video, only still shots. But they did show shots of Rik with his white Dean V and red Dean baby Z. Rik is quite a guitarist, starting out solo on a Godin AE playing an instrumental. Also really commanded a presence on stage with the other musicians as there were probably a dozen on stage that he directed. You could tell he was having fun. A true Pro. I was also impressed with Tom Keifer. Vocals, piano, guitar and sax. Guy did it all. Straight ahead R&R.
I still say get some Dean's in Jim's hands. The word of mouth through all the artists he works with will rub off as he is constantly co-writing with other artists.
Here was the press release for last nights show.
- Craig
Jim Peterik and World Stage Feb. 5
In a concert of chart-topping music, Jim Peterik and a long list of musical collaborators will present his "World Stage" show at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, in the McAninch Arts Center Mainstage at College of DuPage.

Also, Kevin Chalfant, lead singer of The Storm; Jeff Boyle, singer/songwriter; Kimi Hayes of the Kimi Hayes Band; Toby Hitchcock of Pride of Lions; and Lisa McClowry, singer/songwriter. All of these singers are backed up by Peterik's World Stage Band.
Peterik's hit songs "Vehicle," "Eye of the Tiger," "Hold on Loosely" and "The Search Is Over" have become classics, earning him Grammy and People's Choice awards.
The show also includes a performance of Peterik's newest project, "Pride of Lions," and a song or two from his "Ides of March."

Set up question - kinda long, sorry ...
I originally played guitar for a long time in my younger days but had switched to playing bass for many years and hadn't even owned a guitar for a time. I grabbed an EVO XM just to have a guitar and since have gotten back into playing. Picked up an Icon SS and a Boca in the past year. Believe it or not, the cheap XM hasn't required me touching the truss rod or anything else except for a small tweak to the bridge. The Icon and Boca on the other hand both needed a bit more neck relief for my liking. Heres what I'm curious about. Both guitars were bought new and I found that the truss rod on both were cranked clockwise as far as they could go. Either that or they were both seized which doesn't seem too likely. There was still a slight amount of relief in the necks and luckily I didn't need to go the other way as they needed just a little bit more relief. Just a touch over 1/4 turn took care of the Icon. Still messing with the Boca to get it "right" but I think I'm there with about the same adjustment, 1/4 turn or a little more. I'm not complaining Just wondering if it was common for Dean to fully tighten the truss rod at the factory when they set them up. Or does it sound like maybe both rods were maybe stuck/seized from going any tighter which again doesn't seem likely. Also, I usually fret at the 12th and first and check clearance at the 6th frets. Sometimes I'll fret the last fret and 1st and check at the 8th like PRS used to recommend, it all depends on how the neck acts to the truss rod adjustment and how it feels .... anyway, is their a standard method the DEAN recommends? Any input or opinions would be appreciated. Sorry it's a book. Thanks.
Is this "Z" really a USA model?
I just got a Dean Z at a local music store. It is Red, kinda burnt red, and the SN is #961001. On the back of the body it has a sticker that says "Z Coupe" The store claims it is a USA model but I am not sure. It has a set neck and grover tuners. Anyone have any advise as to how I can tell if it really is a USA model?
The bad part about this is, one of my best friends is from Rhode Island and is a hardcore Pats fan and a guy that works for me is a hardcore Eagles fan. No matter the outcome Im gonna hear gloating and whining. Whats your choice?
It doesn't take long does it?
I joined this board in December. I have since bought two MLX's and a 79 reissue Z. I am now looking for a 79 ML and will be ordering a DOA V.

Due to restrictions imposed by the Gibson Musical Instrument Corporation, we are not permitted to place our inventory on our website.

JAG PANZER "Casting The Stones"
by Clifford "Junior" Newsted
Cover: 5 Progressive Powered Metal Bands out of 10
The cover is a shot of a hand with stone a stone in it, with lots of grays, blues, and purples as the main color schemes. Above is the Panzer logo in an Old English font and the title “Casting the Stones” directly below. There’s nothing that would make want to stop & see what this record is about based on the art. Frankly, it looks like something tat might be better suited for a “Christian” band or something of that sort.
Booklet: 3 Shadows Fall Budgets out of 10
Listen, I’m not gonna knock the band for this, but Century Media sends their advance CDs strictly in slip covers and you get no booklet with it. There is a full track listing in the cover & a listing of the personnel, along with some information on the record and all that nonsense. Enough said.
Songs: 7 Tyrants out of 10
This is really where it counts, the music. I have been a fan of the Colorado based band for about a year or so, they are known for their splendid musicianship & well crafted songs. This band has an edge over a band like a Dream Theater, simply for the fact that, they can get across 5 minutes what DT can’t. Harry “The Tyrant” Conklin’s vocals are melodic & lean more toward the power metal arena, perfect fit for this blend of progressive rock & heavy metal. Unlike other progressive outfits, Jag Panzer doesn’t suffer from keyboards drowning out all the guitars & bass tracks. On this recording, you get a superb balance of all the instruments.
Comments: Hopefully, Jag Panzer land decent slot on a tour in the States, so other can hear, what remarkable under ground metal we have in the United States. It’s not all what you see on “Head Banger’s Ball” or hear on the nu-metal radio, after all.

Wall of Death?
by tnvol on Tue Feb 08, 2005 12:43 am
I was checking out a Metal Edge mag that someone left in the crapper earlier. There was an Ozzfest review and when they were talking about each of the bands performances, they refered to pits and walls of death. I know what pits are obviously but what the hell is a wall of death? Is it when a huge wall of people rush the stage or what?

Just For Shins And Grits....
by BTMN on Tue Feb 08, 2005 2:58 am
Vh1 Classic just did Cheap Trick as the Headline act on a show by that same name.
They played 6 songs with a few lil interviews and a commercial or two. I played 6 differant guitars just to try to see what it was like to frantically change and play.
I used:
Hamer T-51 for If You Want My Love
Hamer Steve Stevens for Dont Be Cruel
Dean Korina V for Ghosttown
Dean ZX for The Flame
Hamer '77 Standard Custom for Tonight It's You
Hamer Blitz Bass for Dream Police
I dont really know these songs but it was easy to play along enough to learn something and "jam" along. I just grabbed a guitar each time. I had no idea what was coming on. Just plug and play. They were tuned and ready. I might not have been but it was a blast.
I know....A bunch of Ballads but I wasn't in charge of programming.

Why is this Us hardtail being sold for such a low start and "buy now" price? Is it simply because it is wood and does not have a color finish?
Also, what kind of strap nut thingymajiggs are those?
O/T ANother Megadeth Live Review
Went to see Megadeth in Manchester, UK last night - Having seen them twice before I wasn't expecting a great deal, but upon arrival the venue was already buzzing - it was sold out in advance and the atmosphere was brilliant - I haven't seen anything like that in years! During the changeover (Diamond Head supported, and milked "Helpless" and "Am I Evil" for all they were worth) "Walk" came on and the place erupted...
Megadeth themselves (or Dave and the Mustaines as we were calling them beforehand) were the best I have ever seen them - Everyone was well up to scratch, Glen Drover being a tremendous replacement for Marty Friedman - kicked my arse anyway! Lots of great stuff played ie Holy Wars, Set the World Afire, Wake Up Dead and so on, plus many of the new album (sounded fantastic) and nothing off the s#%t late 90s releases!
Basically, they ruled and anyone who ever liked them should go and see them before it is too late.
Finally, the new Dave Mustaine signature axe was nowhere to be seen, and praise the lord for that!
oh brother..
you'd figure that if a person was in the market for a DFH (an extreme niche market), that they would have researched their purchase and have already been to the main Dean site..
and would know that it's not "relic'd"..
i think that the buyers will be much more scrutinizing on what a $4000.00 guitar has, or hasn't..
and it really doesn't mean that the dealer cannot have the new DFH "relic'd" (non-factory) and offer it as "relic'd"..
I love CD Baby!
by Faust on Wed Feb 09, 2005 12:25 am
I just ordered "Loss for words" by Jeffery Ryan Smoots.
http://cdbaby.com/
This is the e-mail I got from them when they shipped the CD:
Your CD has been gently taken from our CD Baby shelves with
sterilized contamination-free gloves and placed onto a satin pillow.
A team of 50 employees inspected your CD and polished it to make sure
it was in the best possible condition before mailing.
Our packing specialist from Japan lit a candle and a hush fell over
the crowd as he put your CD into the finest gold-lined box that money
can buy.
We all had a wonderful celebration afterwards and the whole party
marched down the street to the post office where the entire town of
Portland waved 'Bon Voyage!' to your package, on its way to you, in
our private CD Baby jet on this day, Tuesday, February 8th.
I hope you had a wonderful time shopping at CD Baby. We sure did.
Your picture is on our wall as 'Customer of the Year'. We're all
exhausted but can't wait for you to come back to CDBABY.COM!!
Thank you once again,
Derek Sivers, president, CD Baby
 I love these guys!
Ok,
So I am really thinking about ordering a Dime-O-Flame guitar and like I said in the previous post, the one I saw at NAMM was nice, SOLID, AND HEAVY. It felt like a quality guitar. I used to have a 79' V and it was light as hell and made in Korea. I wasn't that impressed with that guitar as it felt and sounded kinda cheap.
Here's the deal, I talked to West LA Music here in LA and they told me the one at NAMM AND the one that I can order is 100% USA MADE. Is that true? or is it really Korean? Can someone who ACTUALLY knows what they are talking about confirm this please? Dean Z? Brave Dave? Anyone?
I want one of those guitars

Songs to sing with
by UF Dean on Wed Feb 09, 2005 1:01 pm
Hey guys. I realized I haven´t really contributed much lately (well, not with useful information anyway) so I thought this would be a good thread.
I´m wondering what are some good songs to play and sing for someone who is just beginning to do both at the same time. Here´s my list so far (what I actually CAN do) for some easy stuff:
Pearl Jam: Black, Elderly Woman...
Everlast: What It´s Like (don´t laugh)
3 Doors Down: Here Without You
Radiohead: Creep
Sister Hazel: One Love, Out There, Champagne High
Blues Traveller: The Mountains Win Again
Swing 360: Okay
Animals: House of the Rising Sun

Crown Royal Sticker needed
Since I recently aquired my 80 ML that is the exact same color purple as Crown Royal's stuff, I think its only right to put a Crown Royal sticker on the guitar. If anyone sees one in their travels please grab it for me. I've check my usual watering holes and liqour stores but no one seems to have one. Gracias.
DEAN Ultra slow on the custom orders!
Hey guys you all know I am am a total DEAN devotee, I love DEANs and I own quite a few USA's including one previous custom order.
What got me worried is that I am waiting for a freaking long time now on my second custom order and I know a few you do and some even longer than I am!
What is wrong...I am starting to lose faith a little, actually this is the first time in years I lost faith in DEAN a little!
All I get are answers with not much concrete information, I have a feeling priority is given to a lot of things except the custom order of the guys who actually pay for their DEANs.
Sorry to post this, but I am a little disappointed!
anyguys wanna share their experiences??
Cheers

DANNY SPITZ
by BULL on Thu Feb 10, 2005 1:11 am
Well with the news of a possiable reunion with the classic line of Anthrax of Belladonna, Spitz, Ian,Bello and Benate. Spitz has launched a new website. The is called Spitzandyourmother.com features the Dean bluebusrt flying v guitar thats in the Dean artist area. The sites coolest part is some awesome riffs by him. Check it out.
I want to put a Floyd Rose on my MLX. I have all the info I need to take care of the body side of it..... What about the nut? It seems I will have to add wood to give the locking nut a shelf to sit on. Will it still need to be routed? It seems like a less than stable place for such a crucial part of keeping the guitar in tune.
I took a good look at Dimebag's guitars and it almost looks like they just stuck the nut on there at the angle the headstock tilts. That can't be right...can it?
Hi.
Anyone got one of these or know much about them.
Keen to hear opinions before I buy one.
I was also considering the Korg ax100g?
Thanks again,
Ally.
Looking for Guitar Legends
Hi.
I've been trying to get my hands on a copy of Guitar Legends (Dime issue) over here in the UK, can't seem to get it anywhere.
Would anyone be prepared to ship a copy over to me, I'm obviously willing to cover all costs incurred?
I know it's a bit of a drag, but would be gratefully received.
Cheers,
Ally.
True bravery is...
by Faust on Thu Feb 10, 2005 2:19 pm
True bravery is arriving home stinking drunk after a very late night
out with the boys.
Then..being assaulted by your wife with a broom, and still having the
guts to ask:
Are you cleaning? Or were you flying somewhere?
I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are, it's going to be impossible to buy a week's groceries for $20."
"Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won't be long before $2000 will only buy a used one."
"If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm going to quit. A quarter a pack is ridiculous."
"Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging a dime just to mail a letter?"
"If they raise the minimum wage to $1, nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store."
"When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would some day cost 29 cents a gallon.
Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage."
"Kids today are impossible. Those duck tail hair cuts make it impossible to stay groomed. Next
thing you know, boys will be wearing their hair as long as the girls."
"I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more. Ever since they let Clark Gable get by with saying 'damn'
in 'Gone With The Wind,' it seems every new movie has either "hell" or "damn" in it.
"I read the other day where some scientist thinks it's possible to put a man on the moon by the end of the century.
They even have some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas."
"Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract for $75,000 a year just to play ball?
It wouldn't surprise me if someday they'll be >making more than the president."
"I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric. They are even making electric typewriters now."
"It's too bad things are so tough nowadays. I see where a few married women are having to work to make ends meet."
"It won't be long before young couples are going to have to hire someone to watch their kids so they can both work."
"Marriage doesn't mean a thing any more; those Hollywood stars seem to be getting divorced at the drop of a hat."
"I'm just afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door to a whole lot of foreign business."
"Thank goodness I won't live to see the day when the Government takes half our income in taxes.
I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best people to congress."
"The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice weather, but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on."
"There is no sense going to Lincoln or Omaha anymore for a weekend. It costs nearly $15 a night to stay in a hotel."
"No one can afford to be sick any more; $35 a day in the hospital is too rich for my blood."
"If they think I'll pay 50 cents for a hair cut, forget it."
If you guys haven't seen the new Guitar World, go find it. It has the bestest interview with Zakk Wylde! Topics of discussion, Dimebag, Ashlee Simpson, James Hetfield, rehab, poser guitarist, etc. It was one of the most enjoyable reads I have had in that magazine in a long time.
Hell officially froze over today...
Yep, Im putting a deposit on a Peavey Supreme. What a monster. Went in to try out some pedals and dammit I had to try this thing. Talk about pure tone, and that was through a Peavey cab. I can't even imaging what it will sound like through my Mesa.
Easy To Use Recording Equipment ?
Can any one help me decide on what would be the best home studio recorder/ burner. I am looking for something that is easy to use but that produces great sound quality, I have allway's gone to the studio in the past but it's not affordable to me these days. I need something that a guitarist can get good results from, I am not a very experianced recording enginneer. Any input would be great!
Thank's

A Little Help??!!
by pashko on Thu Feb 10, 2005 10:33 pm
Hey All,
New to this site (joined a month or so ago) and am awaiting my first guitar (DFH) and borrowed a buddies Jackson in the meanwhile to gear me up and hold me over till mine comes in. Been a bass player for 20+ years and been wanting to buy a Guitar for a long while now and was actually thinking about a DFH when they first advertised 'em and then on Dime's passing, well that's all it took. I since then got myself an amp for my guit (Marshall TSL602), and one of them CFH wah-wahs and now want to get either a distortion box or an overdrive box but don't know shite about them. Can I please get some input from ya' all on this... Distortion over overdrive, or vice-versa, and then any specific models/brands I should look at??
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul

and of course, we all know someone that wants a blue caddy bass!

Strat Killer
by Kragax on Fri Feb 11, 2005 3:39 pm
I am in the market for a strat or a suitable strat killer. I am asking for opinions. I would like to have that Strat sound every once in a while. The coil taps just don't get. I had an Avalanche one and was disappointed. The neck/fetboard were actually twisted and the fix for that was much more than the guitar was worth. I have been thinking about a Highway one Strat but I would like to find a replacement from Dean any suggestions? Any good Avalanche stories?

Which Pickups in ZZ Top Explorers?
by Richard on Fri Feb 11, 2005 7:46 pm
Hi everybody,
I'd like to know which Pickups have been used in ZZ Top's Dean explorers during their early 80ies Eliminator era. According to Dean's website these might be "custom made" Di Marzios.
Is there any more specific information? More than that: any idea where to buy them, or which stock pickups come closest?
Thanks a lot in advance!
Richard

Les Paul? This is pretty cool. Too bad its not for the mass

Ya have to admit, this is a radical departure for them, hell, even the neck joint looks surprisingly familiar.
Metal Zone as an EQ fargin rocks!
I don't remember who recommended using a Metal Zone for an EQ a few weeks ago, but man it rocks. I turned the distortion off and use it only for the EQ and man I now have that old school Crowbar/VDOP crunch. I can't wait to crank it up loud to see what it really sounds like.
Who ever it was that said that, thanks. You just saved me $400 from buying a new head.
Great DVD...!
by clmazza7 on Sat Feb 12, 2005 12:52 am
I just watched VH: Live Without a Net" (1986) and there's a set where Sammy is playing his red Baby ML. The tune was a great rendition of Zep's "Rock and Roll" I'm a HUGE VH fan and seeing Sammy jammin' away on his Dean was a bonus! He really is an underated axe slinger....
Cool Stuff!
all i n all - not in too bad of shape. It was delivered via us postal service and arrived undamaged - with minimal packing provided.
Unfortunately - who ever stripped the guitar of the original finish (black - as the cavities are black and one say Black in it as well) they sanded off most of the serial number. All that remains is 156 - the lead in numbers are missing.
Couple shots. Is it possible to put a Wilkenson type trem on here - or would I need to povide extra routing for the 2 bolts that they need in front (only seen diagrams for 1 model that needed the anchor bolts similar to a floyd)?
Any idea what locking machine heads would be a fit without any extra hole making in the head stock?
And would a roller nut fit in this space without modifying it majorly?
And what years were these made, all USA models?
Thank you all knowing Dean folks!

And please don't say use the suggested manufactor settings, cuz they suck.

Help me identify my Z79 Re-Issue??
The Dean Z79 Re-issue in white pictured to the left in my avatar. I bought this off of Ebay a few weeks ago. The seller said he thought it was a 2003 model. I am not sure. At the base of the neck where the serial number "should" be, there is only one number stamped there, "2" thats it! Do any of you have any idea what year model this might be and why there is only 1 number stamped for serial number? Thx:)
OK - So there are few places as dry as a Canadian house in the winter. Moving into this new required me to purchase a humidifer for the music room. So, my question is - ideally - what should I be aiming for?

Harmony 415 amp

My roommate has this ancient amp with him, a Harmony 415. I don't know all that much about it other than it was made in 1965. The speakers and tubes appear original, but it works fine. One recently went on eBay for about $400 or so.

Come On In!
OK, I AM LOOKING FOR THE HOLY GRAIL MARSHALL FOR MY COVER BAND. I AM CURRENTLY USING MY 5150II AND 3 TUBE MODDED ADA MP-1 THROUGH A PEAVEY CLASSIC 60/60 POWER AMP LIVE FOR BOT MY ORIGINAL BAND AND MY COVER BAND. THOSE 2 UNITS BOTH HAVE ENOUGH GAIN TO FRY A CIRCUIT. THE 3 TUBE ADA HAS MORE GAIN THAN THE 5150II. THATS THE PROBLEM ! I AM LOOKING FOR SOMETHING A LITTLE MORE MELLOW FOR MY COVER BAND. SEVERE CRUSHING GAIN IS ONLY NEEDED FOR NEWER METAL TUNES. I NEED SOMETHING MORE ROCK & ROLL FOR THE OTHER TUNES. LET ME TELL YOU, GUNS N ROSES AND LED ZEPPLIN JUST DONT SOUND RIGHT NO MATTER HOW GOOD A PLAYER YOU ARE WHEN YOU ARE PLAYING IT WITH PANTERA OR DISTURBED SOUNDING DISTORTION. I NEED TO KNOW WHICH MARSHALL HAS THAT SWEET TONE . THAT ONE THAT HAS THAT SOUND THAT HONKS, THAT SOUND THAT SOUNDS LIKE AN ENVELOPE FILTER IS ON OR A WAH PEDAL IS STUCK ON. I REALLY LIKE SLASH'S SOUND ON APPETTITE FOR DESTRUCTION AND EDDIE VANHALENS SOUND ON "UNCHAINED" AND THE KINKS SONG "YOU REALLY GOT ME" IS IT THE JUBILEE, THE JCM800 2203/2204 OR THE JMP100 THAT I WANT. I HAVE HEARD ALL OF THESE ON MULTIPLE OCCASION AND ALL HAVE SOUNDED DIFFERENT DEPENDING ON THE BAND. I HAVE PLAYED THE JCM800 AND THE ONE I PLAYED HAD ZERO OVERDRIVE AND SOUNDED DULL BUT THERES A BAND HERE IN MY CITY AND THE DUDE HAS A JCM800 AND IT SOUNDS BETTER THAN HIS SINGERS DSL100. SO I AM PERLEXED. I WANT THICK, SMOOTH LUCIOUS CREAMY OVERDRIVE WITH THAT SWEET MARSHALL HONK TONE. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK ? JMP100, JCK800, JUBILEE OR OTHER ? I DONT WANT TO ROCK A JCK800 WITH A PEDAL EITHER. ROCKING A PEDAL IS WAY OUT OF THE QUESTION. I OWNED A JCM900 4100 BEFORE , SOUNDED SWEET BUT SOLD IT CAUSE I WASNT IN A COVERBAND AT THAT TIME AND DIDNT NEED CLASSIC GAIN. MAY GET ONE OF THOSE AGAIN BUT WANT EVERYONES OPIONS ON THE MATTER SINCE WE HAVE SUCH A WIDE VARIETY OF PLAYERS ON THE FORUM LATELY. I CAN ALMOST GUESS THE ANSWER FROM MOST OF THE OG'S. BUT FEEL FREE TO THROW OUT THE OPINOINS PLEASE.
Why does dean make no american amde guitars with floyds? Do they and I am wrong? Why cant there just be a solid white flying V with a floyd made in America! SO SIMPLE. PLEASE, correct me if im wrong.
My first car.......................STILL got it!!!
Since the subject of cars came up, I've been waiting for the weather to be, well sort of good on a day I have off. Today I went out & took some pics of MY FIRST CAR THAT I STILL OWN!!
This is a 1964 Ford Fairlane Sports Coupe, factory 289 / 4 speed. My father is a car guy. It's what we've done as long as I can remember. More show cars have rolled through Dads shop than any of you could imagine. From 1932 fords (SEVERAL) to Mustangs, 55 - 57 Chevys, Lincolns, Mercs, Vans, Trucks, Vetts, Cameros, YOU NAME IT. Dad has built it.
When I turned 15 Dad said he would not buy my two brothers or me a car..... we would BUILD OUR FIRST CARS. (kind of cool now that I look back on it) I had my choice of anything EXCEPT a VETT. He didn't want our first car to be Fiberglass. He wanted us to be in a STEEL car. Something a little safer.
The youngest brother picked a 66 Mustang. The middle brother picked a 55 Chevy. I HAD TO BE DIFFERENT!! JUST LIKE US DEAN OWNERS!!! LOL
SO, I picked this 1964 Fairlane 500 Sports Coupe. It has a 289 with a 4-Speed transmission, ALL FACTORY EQUIPPED!!! Truly a rare breed. Most were 260's with a three in the tree, or an automatic trans.
Well that was in 1970 something. AND I STILL OWN IT!!! This past summer Dad had the 289 rebuilt. Then he & I dropped it in.
Next I intend to get it a new paint job & make a show car out of it. I drove it through High School as well as College. Now It's semi-retired.
THE LITTLE DEANMANN SAYS HE WANTS IT!! WOOO HOOO!!! I've just got to figure out how to get a Briggs & Stratton to fit in it. In it's day, IT WOULD PASS EVERYTHING ON THE ROAD EXCEPT A GAS STATION!!! He says he wants to paint it black & put falmes on it, which will be cool, but it's ALWAYS been RED!!! He's 8 now, I'm hoping he will change his mind when he gets older & DAD paints it CANDY RED!!
Here it is.
SIDE NOTE. Both of my brothers STILL own their first car too. How many people do you know that own their first car? Let alone 3 brothers

While there is some similiarites I feel Akira is mcuh more than just an EVH clone. There is so much more to his playing the just being labeled as such. You all should check out his playing.
dimes floyd setup
by marker on Mon Feb 14, 2005 4:08 am
I was looking at pics of the new dean from hell and I noticed the only real difference was the floyd route. The original
dean from hell didn't have the recessed rout. How was he able to pull up the floyd up 2 steps without the rout. I have noticed that there are marks on the dean from hell where it looks like a longer type floyd left scars where it made contact behind the bridge. Just wondering why the new deans from hell were set up with the route instead of being set up like the original which didn't have the recessed rout. It is very noticable compared to the original.
Just a little note to wish all the Dean peeps a lotta love today........hoping every has a great Valentine's day and here's a little extra luv going Mailman's way.................

by ninjasx on Mon Feb 14, 2005 9:32 pm
Just been reminded of this, listening to some old cd`s
Carcass, Heartwork, Buried Dreams
It`s an awsome solo if you haven`t heard it I suggest you listen
Just another "Brilliant" idea (like the Bwacoolf) that popped into my ever fading mind. Name your fears,i dont think this has been done, and it could be quite interesting. Explain them if you wish.
Mine is green dogs. I know they dont exist. But if they do,or will...ill run...fast...and hide.
The other is water. I HATE water, I mean, i love drinking it. But lakes, rivers, streams, creeks, oceans, pools, etc. I hate it. Probally because i fell off the back of a moving boat when i was little and almost drowned. I hate the thoguht of drowing...ugh...

New(used) Pointy Guitar, Porn included.....

Last week I scored a Hamer Standard Korean Import.
Feels a lot like the Dean Korean import DOA ML as far as weight and quality of construction. They are comparably priced new also. I got this one used and it has been upgraded with Sperzel tuners and Seymour Duncan 59'er in the neck slot and JB pickup in the bridge position. Nicely setup too.
Cool lil noise maker.

Fender+Metal=Crap
For one, fender doesnt know metal. And 550 watts? Hell, yea right. Its like amp companies are competing to make the shittiest amps nowadays. First the Mode4,and now this! Ha. Thats just my opinion though, and thought'd id share.
I would like to hear it though. I mean cmon, evryone needs a laugh.
I was wondering (considering I'm new to the Dean forum) how would you go about getting an endorsment from Dean and what would the requirements be?
Im wondering if a Original Floyd rose would fit in a ML Ultra 98- slot.
Also were can I buy some Floyd rose's Original ones
Is this normal for the binding on a white Z79??
Hey could you look at this picture of my binding on my 79. If you look close you can see where the binding comes off of the body and just STOPS instead of blending into the neck. I've never seen another 79 with binding up close so I'm not sure if this is normal or if this is a defect. My neck has a #2 stamped on the base so I'm thinking that maybe this was a flaw?? Or is it suppose to do that?
Thx

ENGL RB Amp Volume questions
hi folks. I've had this thing for a little while now and had it set up on the high gain channel (14). Doing it this way - 2 and 10 would be the clean and overdrive volumes. I was originally doing it with the Master B on about 4 or 5 and the clean (2) and dirty (10) volumes at about 4 or 5 as well.
I read something recently (think it was about a Framus amp) where they suggested cranking up the master volume. And then using lower volumes on the clean / dirty channels.
So, I tried this last practice. Cranked up the Master B to 7 or 8 and would only need to bring 2 or 10 up to about 1.5 - 2 to get to practice levels. It definitely added quite a bit of punch (esp on the overdrive channel) and had to bring the gain (4) down a bit to about 6.
Is this a proper way to do things? It does get a good sound, just not sure how good for the amp it is to have the master volume pegged and then using lower volumes for each channel. Or is this the way it's 'supposed' to be done?
hope that made some sense.....

Which bucker?
by Lon on Tue Feb 15, 2005 11:13 am
I'm looking to replace the single bucker in my new Squier 51 pictured below. The one that's there is actually not bad at all, but I want something that's going to give me just a little more gain without being really nasty and dirty. I want kind of a creamy smooth, yet loud distortion. What might fit the bill? I'm thinking maybe a Pearly Gates or a 59? I once had an old Gibson T-top in my Czech ML that was really nice. Anyone? As for the guitar, I removed the goofy pickguard, replaced the white cover on the front pup, and covered the screw holes with little pewter dragonflies. This body is cool in that it was totally finished under the guard, unlike a normal strat.
VOTE FOR DIME, because he didn't receive much recognition from the media after you know, so just put Darrell "Dimebag" Abbott in all 5 spots or whatever you feel like, just put him once.

Diezel Amps
by rufus on Tue Feb 15, 2005 7:37 pm
I've been hearing alot of talk about Diezel Amps lately.
Definately way too expensive for me, but people around here seem big on designer amps, so I figured I would see what people have to say about them.
How they would compare to other boutique amps like Splawn?

Need Chrome Tailpiece for my Z..Where can I get one?
I need a new tailpiece for my Dean Z79. Do any of you know where I might be able to get one other than stealing one from another guitar??
Pickup question from the as usual clueless one.
I'm looking to replace the pickups in my Hardtail select.
I want to use a Dimarzio Superdistortion (so I'll have a sound close to my TC Z) in the bridge. And a SD Pearly Gate in the neck (I love the clean sound I get on my strat that has one)
So...the question is - for the Dimarzio - what is the difference between regular and F-Spaced? And yes, as usual I am clueless.
can anyone give me the measurements of the body of a dime 333 guitar?
Revoicing,a bit of help please
I need some help.
I have a Jackson Sl-1,with stock pu's. (Duncans). And I just recently "up'd" my strings from Zakk's to Zakk-los (for those who dont know the Low E is .70. Yea,its thick.) But they are the only ones that seem to feel good to me,especially for the tuning I and my band use. Dropped A (A E A D Gb B).
My amp seems to handle it very well, but i read on another forum that for these low of tunings you should have your cab revoiced for it. What does that mean exactly?
I am considering getting a custom ml made, and I was wondering what yall though about the dean custom shop. I was also wondering if dean's custom shop had a seperate website, like the gibson custom shop.

New ENGL amp :D ... need new tubes
Delivered at my door yesterday morning... sweeet! An all new ENGL Fireball
The distortion is awesome, supertight and plentiful. With such an ultra gain channel, who would ever need something clean?
But, there was a problem... after about 25minutes playtime, the tube monitor #$%@ down the V1 tube. I swapped the output tubes with some old ruby tubes I had lyin' around, and there hasn't been any problems since then. However, those rubies are about 5 years old, and I don't expect them to last much longer.
Then: which tubes to buy? Retailers nearby only sell Mesa and sovtek, and I've heard those are exactly the same anyway. I liked the sound of the amp even with sovteks and near-dead ruby, but if the tubes can be changed to acquire a slightly fatter/more moist tone, it would be supersweet! I have noe clue about these things, so any help is greatly appreciated
EDIT: Seems like s-h-u-t is a bad word here
Hey guys,
I'm making a pedal board and need some help regarding the installation of the pedals.
What is the best way for me to attach the pedals to the board?
8000 posts. Where has the time gone?
Holy Cripes (in the words of my good friend Wayne) where has time gone? 4 years later and the DOA is stronger than ever. Guess it takes a healthy appetite for a badass guitar to keep me around.
Questions about the Hollywood series...

Second, do the pickups in the Hollywood Z pictured below look stock? They look like Invaders, but they also look pretty old so they probably are not.

NHL Season Officially Canceled
by smoke67 on Wed Feb 16, 2005 6:11 pm
Commissioner Gary Bettman canceled the 2004-05 NHL season at his 1 p.m. EST news conference, officially turning the lights out on Canada's favourite sport. The NHL is the first of the four major professional sports in North America to cancel an entire season from beginning to end.
Bob Goodenow, Gary Bettman, the owners and the players have just gone to show that they care nothing for the fans. They have damaged this game extremely and it is unknown if it will be able to recover from this. What a bunch of selfish a**holes.

im trying to upload some photos of my dean, and my dodgy knowledge of computers means im stuck! I've put them on my computer but cant seem to get them onto the site. any ideas??
Well, I might be getting a job this summer (I've made a post stating this before) paying somewhere between $300-$400 a WEEK. This means throughout the summer if I save enough I will have about $3000-$4000 some odd dollars. I plan no improving my amp setup. Trying to make it as professional as possible. I have been looking at the Randall MTS series http://www.randallamplifiers.com/mts/mts.asp it looks VERY interesting I do have to say so myself. But do you guys have any other suggestions?

You guys give me some good feedback, better than most forums, so I leave more questions.
Are rack effect processors really worth the money?
What are some to look at?
What all do you think is essential in rack gear?
As you all know, I recently bought a 79 mlf. I mentioned that the bridge was closer to the volume knobs. It appeared that way anyway, but really the routing was off. The strings lined up on the neck so it had to be that.
Today i got my floyd rose pro in, and guess what...
IT WOULDNT FIT. The off center route wouldnt let it fit.
I called the dealer, he said to bring it back. They will most likely send it back to dean. I thought i was lucky finding one this soon, but looks like im going to have to wait till april if that's when the guitars are being shipped again. Uggghhhh.

Coheed and Cambria
by rufus on Fri Feb 18, 2005 6:54 pm
I don't know if any of you older guys have heard of them. They are a progressive rock band with a modern sound. They have a big rush influence and the singer sounds kinda like geddy lee. He plays gibson v's and explorers (explorers mostly). perhaps he should be turned to the dean side.
I don't think I've ever played flats and I've played bass and guitar on and off for 30 years. I was thinking of trying a set of Dadario chromes flats on a boca. I usually play 10-46's . Any suggestions on what guage flats to try? They have a 10-48 set which they call their extra lights. I know that flats tend to run in larger guages than rounds. Any suggestions? Thanks

evo deluxe neck size

Are there any Evo owners who also own a LP who can comment on the neck size of an Evo compared to a LP 50s neck and LP 60s neck? I've described the neck on my EVO (deluxe) to friends as somewhere between the 50s and 60s LP neck. Am I wrong in my description?

This will not only be my first gig there, but my first time in Mexico. I'm excited, I always wanted to go there.

A real pain in the left hand...
...well not so much pain, but most times when I play I seem to get a hell of a stiffness in my left (fretboard) hand.
It does ease up if I really concentrate on keeping it relaxed but it's a real drag at times. It's not just lead work, but just with easy riffing stuff it can occur too.
Any body recognise the symptoms, and are there any exercises I can do to help this?
Cheers,
Ally.

ebay mini score
by Lon on Sat Feb 19, 2005 11:43 pm
I always do a local search on ebay to see what the locals are selling. I've been looking for a hard case for my strat shaped guitars. Today I run across a black Ibanez RG220 with hard case about 20 miles away. Bids are only up to $29 with 2 days to go. I email the guy and ask if he's interested in a cash transaction, and if so how much? He emails back that he's hoping to get $50. $50! I meet him in a local parking lot, cash changes hands, and I'm now the proud owner of a near mint (1 good paint chip) RG220 with a nice hard case. Other than the chip it looks brand new, I even got the hang tags in the case. It's been a good day.
In Case You Missed It.....

I've help put together a "concert" at a local club for Saturday night after the Factory Open House.
Check out the bands website. Hope to get the first band on around 9. Triple Threat look like they are going to be very cool. Get some Deans playing The Blues with an edge! Thor's band sounds excellant on the cd as the older version of Archaic Reign, Ezra Stone. Todd The Viking is coming with his boys from Pensacola to make our brains ooze out of our ears with some Swamp Metal! I'm bringing my earplugs to contain brain cells.
The talent playing is great.
speakers and wiring a cab.
I called about a marshall cab in my local ads and it was a 1960s, they didn't say it was in the ad but they only wanted 300 for it. It was sold, however the guy said he had 2 celestion greenback 30s. I belive he said that they are 8 ohms a peice. How would i go about wiring them together in a cab. Doesn't a 2, 8 ohms speaker load mean you get a total 4 ohm resistance or does it matter how you wire them?
I was looking for someone to enlighten me, or possible provide a website (www.buildyourownspeakercabs.com)
the guy wanted 40 a peice for them and i can build a cab for free, i have all the stuff (lumber, wire.and all that) and 80 for a cab that has celestion gbs and is well made is a damn good deal.

On one of those pages is a picture of Darrell in the splatter/ripped-up/flashdance shirt with the red/blue striped spandex and it says it was from the Bronco Bowl. The picture that I have of Darrell that Michael showed him and he busted a gut laughing about while autographing it was taken outside the Bronco Bowl and Michael found it along with some others from the Zoo World Guitar Show in early 90's with Pantera signing autographs...........I am going to get them scanned this week just for you bro so you can share in the love! Oh, and for the rest of the board!
"borrowed" from the damageplan.net message boards,
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For those of us that grew up in Arlington Texas, Darrells murder was numbing. I am 41 years old and grew up with the boys. Vince (Vinnie) Rex and I went to shcool together, James Bowie High Class of 82'. Rex and I were in a small circle of up and comming musicians in high shcool. We skipped school, threw frisbies and smoked a lot of pot. I was accually turned down for gig that Rex was in pryor to Pantera. In those days we all had heard about the new band with this 14yr old guitar player Darrell Abbott. We would see him carrying a guitar case to Gunn Jr High and think WFT is that kid doing ( little did we know). The first time I saw Pantera was at Bowie High after a 7pm PTA meeting thing. Here was the line up
Darrell Abbott-Lead Guitar
Vince Abbott_Drums
Tommy Bradford-Bass
Terry Glaze_ Rythum Guitar/Keyboards
Donnie Hart- Vocals
They did Back in Black, Runaway(Bon Jovi) The Cars and stuff like that, but Darrell was amazing even then with this small permmed fro he had going on. He later went on to teach lessons at Rainbow Music on Copper St. near his house on Monterey Dr. in Arlington. His dad Jerry owned or worked at Pantego Sound Studio in Pantego ( just a few minutes from where Darrell lived today). This was 1980 folks 19 freaking 80.
Tommy Bradford quit after graduating to attend Abilene Christian University, and Rex Brown was brought in to play bass. Donnie quit or was fired and Terry Glaze took over as vocalist (ever seen Rock Star, that was Terry to the "T", looks, hair, eyeliner and all) and keyboards, Darrell was strong enough now to hold his own as a single guitar player and kick our asses all over the Dallas/Ftworth area as a 4 piece at places like, The Rock Haven, Joes Garage, Arlington Metal Shop, Dallas City Limits and the The Roxy with Darrells mom or dad there at the gigs' cause you had to be 18yrs old to get in in those days. Man we used to laugh cause they would cover "Rock the Kazzba and Twilight Zone" and cheesy hits like that. Soon Darrell won his first Dean guitar by winning the Dallas Guitar contest at the Agora Ballroom in 1983 and went on to win a second contest and Dean the next year. The Orange Sunburst Flamed Dean and the Lightning Bolt Dean ( the one whose head stock got broken in the video)were the guitrs he won. They were, believe it or not, a HAIR METAL band, and recording there own label RECORDS and TAPES (no CD'S yet kiddos), 1983 was Metal Magic, the Projects in the Jungle, I am the Night
lineup by now
"Diamond" Darrell Lance
Vinnie Paul
Rex Rocker
Terrance Glaze
and finally Power Metal (Terry cut the vocal tracks at Pantego Sound but quit to leave Arlington for Berkley, California with his girlfriend Lori Ott, and formed a band called 3D and later Tracy Lords, Phillip Anselmo was hired after a few wannabe singers failed) , then signed with ATCO and did Cowboys From Hell.
You could aways catch Darrell at the gas station, mall, lake riding ski's, or at Chili's. He lived in town all of his life and was one of the most ego-less musicians I ever knew. Always willing to rap a few, buy you a beer or pick up your tab.
You are missed brother

Ex-ANTHRAX Guitarist DAN SPITZ Joins Forces With YNGWIE MALMSTEEN Drummer In WASABI - Feb. 21, 2005
Former ANTHRAX guitarist Dan Spitz has teamed up with YNGWIE MALMSTEEN drummer Patrik Johansson in a brand new project called WASABI. "The material is quite a bit faster and heavier than the Nicko McBrain/Dan Spitz project [SEVEN X SEVENTY]," says Spitz. "Patrik Johansson is an amazing double bass drummer of death."
In other news, Spitz has landed an endorsement deal with Paul Reed Smith Guitars. "We are almost complete with the new 'Spitzstock' modern eagle guitar," says Spitz. "It will be slung around my neck at many upcoming worldwide stages, and in the stores shortly. It is by far the most amazing guitar I have ever had the pleasure of holding in my hands."
As previously reported, the diminutive, "born-again Christian" six-stringer will be reuniting with his former bandmates — including ex-ANTHRAX singer Joey Belladonna — for several European festival appearances to mark the band's 25-year anniversary, including Dynamo Open Air (Holland), Gods of Metal (Italy) and Sweden Rock (Sweden). For the occasion ANTHRAX will appear in their classic pre-1993 lineup consisting of:
Scott Ian - Guitar
Joey Belladonna - Vocals
Frank Bello - Bass
Dan Spitz - Guitar
Charlie Benante - Drums
ANTHRAX are said to be planning a series of concerts featuring Belladonna, Spitz and Bello this summer, including an appearance at the 10th anniversary edition of Ozzfest. Sharon Osbourne is believed to have promised ANTHRAX a slot at this year's Ozzfest but only on the condition that they perform with the classic lineup that was responsible for some of the band's most successful albums.
Cool Birdseye
by Faust on Tue Feb 22, 2005 4:41 pm
This is a non-Dean, but the figuring on this old Epiphone Les Paul is great. They don't make them like this anymore. When I changed the pickups, I checked the wood. that is a carved birdseye maple top. I'd love to have a Caddy like this...
For the true metal fans...the new RUNNING WILD album samples
Pretty cool stuff for the epic/power/speed metal fans! Killer German veteran metalband!

Ebay scam

OK.... The auction has not even ended yet and I get this e-mail:
***Do not reply to this email .Contact the seller at this e-mail address : sharabbot@aol.com*** You expressed interest in an item titled Dean USA Timecapsule Z new Item number: 7301469975 by bidding , however the auction has ended with another member as the high bidder. In compliance with eBay policy, the seller of that item is making this Second Chance Offer to you at your bid price of US $1,400.00. The seller's ID being used for the scam does not match that of the real seller of the guitar (no surprise). The fake seller ID is:

I looked up that seller and they have one fake transaction with another fake seller in Singapore:

@$$#%$&*^ 'ing Guitar Center!!!
by Bri54 on Tue Feb 22, 2005 11:04 pm
I know I should have known better, but I inadvertantly bid on a GC ebay auction....I was the only bidder with the opening bid $235 LESS than any dealer in their right (or left) mind would sell the item for....surprise, surprise, I get this 4 hours after the auction ended:
"Bri, I apologize but the dean that was just won was sold locally this morning during our presidents day sale without any notification. My deepest apologies. Is there anything else I can offer you? I would be more than happy to leave positive feedback at a minimum. Please let me know what I can do to make this transaction right. Best Regards, Alex"
AARRGGHYH!
I think it should have had a bayonet too.
Anyone know the exact specs on the Hardtail select like what kind of pickups are in there and what not? Primarily the pickups, but any further information would be nice.
Stagg guitars
by Lon on Wed Feb 23, 2005 2:27 am
Anyone heard of them? My local Dean dealer had about a half dozen last summer and I was pretty impressed. They're a Belgian company that makes all kinds of instruments. I was in a local pawn shop today with my friend Maryline (who's also Belgian, and very pretty ) and we ran across their L400-BK model, still covered in plastic and marked at $185. Needless to say it's now on layaway. Alder body and maple neck, sounds as good as it looks. Not a mark on it. After my usual going over and setup I'm sure she'll be humming right along.

Buying stolen merchandise on evilbay, hypothetical?
by kevphol on Wed Feb 23, 2005 6:43 pm
Let's say you buy a piece of merchandise on ebay for a good price from someone with good feedback. The transaction goes smoothly, deal done. Four or five months go by and out of the blue you get an email from some ebay user that you do not know and have never dealt with that tells you the merchandise you bought was stolen.
QUESTIONS:
How would you respond initially, if at all?
How difficult would it be to prove the merchandise had been stolen before being sold?
And, assuming it could be proven the merchandise had been stolen before being sold, what would be the ramification to you, the buyer?
Hmmmmmm........

MLF with real floyd rose nut

I did a net search and got in contact with Neal Moser. No kahler website and Neal says he won't even use a cell phone

UPDATE: Re: Advice needed, please!
by Bri54 on Fri Feb 25, 2005 1:19 am
Still on my GC nightmare ride.....Here's the latest possibility on the chopping block (the alimony payments would outweight the value of the TC Caddy, so I passed on it)....
2000 Fender American Standard Strat
"This is a silver U.S.A. made Fender Stratocaster with a Seymore Duncan HotRail pickup installed at the neck position for EXTRA hot tone. By hot I mean screaming leads and chunky loud rhythm. It features a rosewood fretboard fixed on a maple neck bolted to an ASH body covered in a very healthy finish. The guitar shows very minimal wear. The pickup installation was done professionally. Other than the installation of the HotRail, this guitar is all original."
here's the link:
http://www.instrumentexchange.com/bid-form.asp?list_id=355278&pid=41&catid=131&scatid=496&status=1
I could get it for $414
Advice? Opinions?
The black pickup in the neck position looks a little odd to me, but I would primailry use this for studio recording and lessons, rather than on stage.
Thanks in advance!
Dime pics for Vanilla Gorilla Joe

Disassemble/Strip/Refinish/Reassemble
by jim6 on Fri Feb 25, 2005 3:09 pm
Ok folks, I'm pondering doing this on a guitar. I'm going to look for either a project guitar or an unfinished body and turn it over to a buddy of mine that is a frustrated artist.
I know some of you folks have done this and would appreciate any guidance regarding what works and (just as important) what doesn't work.
What materials/supplies do you need going into it?
How do you strip off an existing finish?
What's the best way to apply a clear finish?
Any and all info will be most appreciated. Also, if this info is already available on a webpage somewhere, a link would also be nice.

does any one know a way i could upload my bands songs from my PC to the Internet?
Steve Vai New Album is very good!
Real Illusions:Reflections
Even though he went with a fable idea for this new one, everything follows a more melodic framework, it is very enjoyable and more hook laden than any previous work besides Alive In An Ultra World. Each song stands alone and even if you dont get his thinking, (who does really, thats why he is Vai) its a great guitar album on its own!
Less eclectic accessible and just full of hairy work!
Check it out if your into Vai, very awesome, no dissapointments this time!
Highlights:
Building the church
freakshow excess
km pee du wee
Not so hot:
Just one song, Dying for your love, could have been left out, but the rest are slammin.
Hardtail select or Hardtail Pro
I just bought a USA Hardtail and it's AWESOME!!! I'd like another one but $$$ is tight. What's the quality like on the selects (providing i changed the pickups) or would i be better off going with the USA Pro. I've kinda been prejudice to strictly U.S.A guitars but maybe the Selects are better than other Korean models i've tried. Any opinions appreciated!!
I read in the local paper kids at a nearby high school planned an after school talent show. This would be the third year in a row, with no prior problems. This year, school officials said no electric rock music. I'm thinking is the 50's? How rediculous! They were worried about violence and moshing in the auditorium. I said check the football field, anyway, parents and students were outraged. Finally the school board reversed their decision. The one band was in the paper posing with their instruments. The one kid had a Dean, not sure what model it was though. Had a "duck bill" headstock. Appearently because the kid had a Dean the school ok'd the rock show!!!! OK I made the last part up, but the show will go on. I say good for them for standing up for what they believe in. And doing it the right way by using petitions and lobbying the school board, and down right pesting the sh!t out of them!!!!!
yeah well today started out great i was walking down to the guitar shop when all of a sudden a kid comes running out of nowhere and hits me in the face with a rock and starts throwing them at me so out of instinct i chase after him and once i did this kid says stop chasing him and the kid threw a mother frippin big rock right at my face but he missed becuase i was still messed up from the big rock that hit me before and well yeah i know two of the guys who were apart of this jeff and erick so im gonna go down to their houses and see what i can do try and get them one on one
Every time i change strings im always having to clean out the space between where you put the strings cause little chunks of metal from the strings get stuck between the little blocks and the saddle.
Have any of you ever had this problem? Its been getting really bad lately, they block up the area so that i cant tighten on a string and they always fall out.
Any advice?
Thanks alot,
Charles

Any ideas on this amp problem?
by Jheroun on Mon Feb 28, 2005 1:58 pm
I own a crate blue voodoo amp, an early one that's actually blue
The power tubes (6l6) we're replaced and biased about a year ago, I recently replaced the preamp tubes (12ax7wa) because I got a lot of noise from one/some of them.
All is now a lot less noisy but for 2 things:
- Hum, I think mains hum, it's low-ish and gets louder if i put my gain and or volume up. I know this sounds like something in the preamp section but since these tubes have all been replaced I doubt this. Could the rehearsal complex we play out have bad power? Would a power conditioner help in this?
- Hiss/crackling/hardtodescribe, only when I plug a lead into the amp (i've tried multiple ones), it's a mid range sound and annoying. I get the idea that this is only present when there's a band playing in the stage area that's also present in the rehearsal complex. Could this also be due to dirty power? Or is it just me hoping there's nothing wrong with my amp itself (bad grounding maybe)?
I've read that an amp is basically a power plant with some parts threw in so it also makes some noise. I'm wondering if a power conditioner might help me with some of my woes.
Any ideas?

Dean Dime Guitars and frets
Does anyone know what kind of frets the Dean Dime guitars will have ?
They don't list them in the Dean guitar specs.
I'm just wondering if the Flame and the FBD Tribute have the same low profile frets like the 79 RI ML's or are they going to be a jumbo style frets.

Tripp Eisen Arrested! More than once!
WTH is the matter with this crap lately, get a 19 year old, Are they so stupid they dont know what they could lose with this crap???
I just dont get it. And, I really liked this guys work with Static-X. Fn shameful. Just sick.
"Tod Salvador, better known as Tripp Eisen of Static-X, was charged on Friday with aggravated sexual assault, child endangerment and kidnapping. Salvador reportedly sexually assaulted a 14-year-old New Jersey girl he met over the Internet.
Authorities have told the press that Salvador met the girl online and told her that he liked to impersonate Tripp Eisen of Static-X, the girl was reportedly a big fan of the band. They began exchanging emails last October. In January, Salvador reportedly went to New Jersey for a rendezvous with the girl. He allegedly drove the underage girl to a shopping center parking lot, parked the truck he was driving and had grox with her.
According to press accounts, Police are currently investigating whether Salvador had made similar contact with other girls online.
Salvador, a Burbank native, is facing similar troubles closer to home. He also was arrested on February 10th by the Orange County Sheriff Department after he was reportedly found sleeping in a parked car with underage girl. Sheriffs charged him with a felony count of committing a lewd act with a child and he was released on $100,000 bail.
Salvador joined Static-X in 2001. At press time the band has not issued a statement about Salvador's arrest."
