Satin Lacquer Finishes...
by l_train on Fri Apr 01, 2005 5:54 am
hello everybody! i used to be known as "rockstar_wicca" or, "rockstarwicca", dont really remember, its been awhile and i forgot my username... well anyway, len's back!
anyway, i just ordered a new dean usa pro series hardtail in natural finish, and was wondering about the satin lacquer finishes that they put on them... i heard it feels bare wood, which is cool, but i'd like to know how durable the finish is, will it last 20yrs of playing? will it crack or anything like that? im prob being alittle paranoid, but please do realize ive never spent over 500 for a guitar before(and this is a $2k guitar), ive never owned a usa made guitar, and ive never had a setneck guitar, this is a big step up...
thankx

Stories about your FIRST DING
I was reading a story about a guy who just got his FIRST DING in his guitar.
We were rehearsing in your typical living room. It was my house & I was single at the time so no hassle from a wife about the furniture moved to the garage for a weekend. You all know the place, Bud mirror on the wall, couch held up on one end with a block, mystery stain in the hall, $4,000,000.00 stereo in the corner, trash can in the other corner FULL of empty cans………. You all have been there!!!
ANYWAY, we just finished a tune & were taking a “soft drink” break. (wink wink) I went to take off my guitar & FORGOT ABOUT THE CELING FAN!!!! CRAP!!!! Stuck the BIG V in the fan. It was my ’82 Baby Z. Nicked the BIG V a bit. CRIED FOR A MONTH!!!
I still cringe when I see a ceiling fan over a stage.
SO, what's the story on YOUR first DING
broken necks
by marker on Fri Apr 01, 2005 3:06 pm
On ebay there is a dean with a broken neck. A couple of days ago a guy had a washburn neck and it was broke in the same place. I was wondering if anyone knows if these necks are originally 2 pieces of wood that are joined and leaves a weak spot. If so, do all manufactures use this method. It seems like the neck thru dean on ebay would have been made from one piece of wood and not glued together. Is it called quatersawn? Just wondering cuz I will never buy a neck thru that has that type of weakness. Are the new deans made this way? Thanks guys

I found a custom auto body shop here that will paint my guitar body any color I want, even pearl colors, for under $100! I'm thinking of a candy tangerine pearl or maybe a pink pearl. Go ahead, call me a sissy. Takes a real man to play a pink guitar!

I just traded my Caddy for one of these
What a difference a setup makes! I recently got a Cadillac Select after lusting for one for years. Red quilt top with 3 ply binding and gold hardware, real sharp! I own a few PRS guitars and Im ultra careful with them and long story short dont play them much because of it. Ive also been missing the 24.75" scale of my LP riddled youth.
The previous owner had it 'set up' at his local shop, a well known place. When I got it home and plugged it in, I was immediately attacked by sour notes, terrible bends and just general crappy-ness. The first thing I blamed was the shape of the headstock and the way the string angle breaks over that nut. I figured I would give it my once over treatment and an official intonation job and see what happened.
I didnt do major surgery, just a handful of small things. First I replaced the .009s with a set of XL .010s. After removing the old strings I got some graphite powder and lubed up the nut real well with a toothpick. Then I plugged her in to my Korg rackmount tuner and gave her a little probing, errr strobing.
Now I cant make her go out of tune, even with the most rediculous of bends or my 2mm pick of death! The action is still a bit low, but I dont think I have the right allen wrench to loosen the locks on the tone pros bridge. Some notes fret out the slightest bit, but when its plugged in and cranked up its not noticeable in the slightest.
After the jam tonight Ill bring her home, take her strings off and give her frets a good rubbing with a sanding block. That should take care of the high 10th fret.
Im sold on this Dean thing. These guitars ROCK

I just downloaded it from iTunes. Its pretty killer. If you are a fan of the band you will love it. There are some unreleased tracks and demos on it as well as remastered versions of Ultra-violence and Frolic Through The Park. Killer stuff from an awesome old school thrash band.

It's from an old 80's compilation CD commercial. I dug out some old VHS tapes of various artists live, and this was one of the commercials.
Need advice on "replacement pickups" for my NEW ML
I just got a new ML and although it sounds great now, I would like to make it even better. I was thinking of a Dimebucker SH13 for the bridge and a Seymour Duncan SH2 Jazz for the front.
I play mostly heavy metal, metallica, pantera, The Carpenters, etc...Well maybe not the last one..
Anyway, I was hoping some of you more experienced gurus could give me some ideas for a great pickup combination for my new baby.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and I will also send you a Christmas card

Ya' don't fart in a crowded elevator, you don't bring your girlfriend home to meet the wife, and you sure as hell don't keep talking about a competitor (and I use that term loosely here) on your host's website. There is more than enough fire wood to go around, and we've barely made a dent into the current cord. So please bring your offerings to someone else as I am sure they will be sorely needed in the imminent future.

How do I clean a "Black Guitar?"
I am having a heck of a time getting my black explorer to shine. I have tried martin guitar cleaner, soap and water, fender guitar cleaner, etc..
I bought the guitar used so I have no idea what the previous owner cleaned it with, but the problem I am having is that no matter what solution I use, no matter how hard I wipe on and wipe off, there are still streaks in it. I can't for the life of me get it to shine without streaks.
I have heard that black guitars are hard to keep clean and I knew that before I bought it but one would think that a lot of buffing would make it shine but I can't seem to do it.
BTW, the streaks I am talking about are NOT pick scratches, the effect I am getting is as if the cleaning solution will not come off at all, no matter how much I buff, it is still there and streaks, how can I fix this??

Hi Everybody,
I am trying to find a good solid state half stack. A buddy of mine has a randall and loves it. Has anyone tried out the new RH200SC/G2 by randall? It is pretty inexpensive for a half stack and it's at least 200 watts. I am thinking solid state because I live in an apartment and I could play it lower when not playing a show, and it's cheaper to maintain. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks everyone.
In the pics on the dean site, the '79 ML-F (i think) has a saaggy crotch. has this been changed, or are they still like this?
JUDAS PRIEST and the scorps last night!!
So finally saw Priest in a hall with the metal god again! pretty cool venue I think it held about 7-8.000 people and it was pretty close to being sold out, maybe it was! Pretty good if you take into account last time they played a hall it was not even 1.500 with the ripper!
All I willsay is this, the Scorps made a decent opener but I forgot all about them as soon as Priest entered the stage! They blew me away, halford sang like he was only 25, only had slight trouble with Painkiller but I heard him sing it far worse last year on an outdoor concert!
It was very very loud still have ringing ears I felt I had to go without earprotection for the full experience! the sound very very good especially considering the venue! AARGHHHH they blew many bands away last night the crowd was very much into the show. What struck me most was that Rob was very very interacting with the crowd, nevere seen him as enthouasiastic and "into" the show
before, he got rid of the sunglasses after only 4 minutes and just seemed to really enjoy...
I saw him also with his solo band hardly speaking a word to the crowd and not moving away from the mic, but this was a totally different story, he was allover the stage OK maybe not running as much anymore like in 1984 but he give the guy a break! he was less static that I seen Ripper with priest and far more interacting with the crowd, did I mention there was NO teleprompter???
Oh and guys the Priest was really enjoying themselves on stage, thsi defintately isn;t one of those forced "for the money" reunions, they were all shining to be back to full power!
The highlights were strange enough "I am a rocker" but also crowd pleasers such as "beyond the realms of death", "ripper", "hellrider" (hell yeah!!!), "deal with the devil", "victim of changes", "hell bent for leather", "electric eye" and "painkiller" the full setlist was:
01. The Hellion/Electric Eye
02. Metal Gods
03. Riding On The Wind
04. The Ripper
05. A Touch Of Evil
06. Judas Rising
07. Revolution
08. Hot Rockin'
09. Breakin' The Law
10. I'm A Rocker
11. Diamonds And Rust
12. Deal With The Devil
13. Beyond The Realms Of Death
14. Turbo Lover
15. Hellrider
16. Victims Of Changes
17. The Green Manalishi (With The Two Pronged Crown)
18. Painkiller
19. Hell Bent For Leather
20. Living After Midnight
21. You Got Another Thing Coming
The set lasted a full 2 hours, and was very energetic!
This was the best sight to see for the Scorps...oh hell I am not being fair now they were decent.....

Finally put my Lawrences in my 79 MLs
by ML Tib on Sun Apr 03, 2005 8:30 am
After 2 years debating whether I was or was not going to play these guitars in a live situation, I visited Bill and Becky on Friday. They graciously installed the pups on my 3 79 series MLs. Becky installed them, and Bill fine tuned them, after they were installed. I will be playing these guitars on April 30, when the L.A. Overkill does a reunion show. Here are some pics.
My Black ML with a L500-XL bridge and a L-500 R in the neck
My Cherryburst ML with a L500-XL zebra bridge and a L450 neck.
My White ML with a L500-XL Bridge and a L450 open coil neck. Notice I got a white/black coils and not creme/black.
And for you Lawrence fanatics, here are some new Bill Lawerence pups. I'm getting the L609 with a matching L500 XL installed on my DOA V, when it arrives, in July/August.

So angry!!!!
I went to one of the local Dean dealers today. I walk in the door and there it is, a f*cking ML 79 Silverburst. (serious lust for a silverburst of any persuasion) Unfortunately shes been wrapped around a tree so to speak, her frets are a mess and shes got file marks all over her rosewood. 17 year old punk tries to tell me that it came from the factory in this condition. Unbelievable. There was dried glue all over the nut and the frets were shaved in the middle like a n00b went at them with a 2x4 covered in 180 grit sandpaper.
Needless to say I wasnt about to pay the $ 800 price tag that they had on it. I woudlnt give them half that, or almost half of half (200) as it needed so much work. As you can attest from my signature, Im lusting after some silverbursts, and I really thought this one was gonna fill the role of the ML for me,but alas, all I left with was my credit card in my pocket and my dignity intact. Im just so scorned by the fact that they tried to justify an $800 price tag on something that wasnt worth %25 percent of asking price.
Bah, maybe im just drunked.

OK, which pickup does what?? Rookie needs help....
Ok I am going to swallow my pride and admit that although I have a lot of expensive guitars, I am still just a beginner player. Fortunately, I am in a position where I can practice a lot and I am learning fast (Been playing about 6 months now) I still have a lot of questions about technical stuff. Believe me, I do a lot of researching on the net and find a lot of good info, but I have found that the best quality and kindess information I have recieved has come from this forum and you great people.
I am confused about which pickup produces which sound and how the 3 way switch corresponds to them. For instance, on a Les Paul, which pickup is producing sound when the switch is in the "treble" position? (The bridge or neck)? Which pickup produces the crunching hard power cord sound that one hears from James Hetfields guitar when he plays power cords? Which pickup produces the high. clean, sqealing sound one hears on a guitar solo?
With that being said, I am in the market for new pickups for my Dean ML. I want a pair that can produce sound much like Metallica and Megadeth, both the cruching power cords and the higher solo sound. I have already addressed this latter question in another post, however, I am still confused as to what pickup is best for which sound.
Thx,
Fine Print: I realize that as a beginner player I really don't need the best equipment because nothing will make me a better player except practice and more practice, I just like having good stuff and when I do eventually get better I will have what I need already.
Musicians Friend has FBD Tribute ML Available?
Hey Guys and Gals,
I just checked on Musicians Friend website today and it looks like that they are taking orders with no wait time on the Far Beyond Driven Tribute ML. I thought the Dime guitars were not supposed to be available till early May or mid June? Does Dean have a specail deal with MF or can we maybe hope for early delivery of our guitars! The Mythological Beer Scooter Explained....
Subject: Beer Scooter...(----of course I have the upgraded Captain Morgan model.)
Beer Scooter... The Mystery is explained
How many times have you woken up in the morning after a hard night drinking and thought 'How on earth did I get home?' As hard as you try, you cannot piece together your return journey from the pub to
your house.
The answer to this puzzle is that you used a Beer Scooter. The Beer Scooter is a mythical form of transport, owned and leased to the drunk by Bacchus the Roman god of wine. Bacchus has branched out
since the decrease in the worship of the Roman Pantheon and has bought a large batch of these magical devices.
The Beer Scooter works in the following fashion:- The passenger reaches a certain level of drunkenness and the "slurring gland" begins to give off a pheromone. Bacchus or one of his many sub-contractors detects this pheromone and sends down a winged Beer Scooter. The scooter scoops up the passenger and deposits them in their bedroom via a Trans-Dimensional Portal. This is not cheap to run, so a large portion of the passenger's in-pocket cash is taken as payment.
This answers the second question after a night out 'How did I spend so much money?'
Unfortunately, Beer Scooters have a poor safety record and are thought to be responsible for over 90% of all UDI (Unidentified Drinking Injuries). An undocumented feature of the beer scooter is the destruction of time segments during the trip. The nature of Trans-Dimensional Portals dictates that time will be lost, seemingly unaccounted for.
This answers a third question after a night out 'What the hell happened?'
With good intentions, Bacchus opted for the REMIT (Removal of Embarrassing Moments In Time) add on, that automatically removes, in descending order, those parts in time regretted most. Unfortunately one person's
REMIT is not necessarily the REMIT of another and quite often lost time is regained in discussions over a period of time.
Independent studies have also shown that Beer Goggles often cause the scooter's navigation system to malfunction thus sending the passenger to the wrong bedroom, often with horrific consequences.
With recent models including a GPS, Bacchus made an investment in a scooter drive-thru chain specialising in half eaten kebabs and pizza crusts.
Another question answered!!
For the family man, Beer Scooters come equipped with flowers picked from other people's garden and Thump-A-Lot boots (Patent Pending).
These boots are designed in such a way that no matter how quietly you tip-toe up the stairs, you are sure to wake up your other half.
Special anti-gravity springs ensure that you bump into every wall in the house and the CTSGS (Coffee Table Seeking Guidance System) explains the bruised shins.
The final add-on Bacchus saw fit to invest in for some scooters is the TAS (Tobacco Absorption System). This explains how one person can apparently get through 260 Winnie Blues in a single night.
PS: Don't forget the on-board heater, which allows you to comfortably get home from the pub in sub-zero temperatures, wearing just a T-shirt.
I don't get some newer rap at all
I've never been a rap fan myself. Just not into it. But I could see the appeal of old school artists like NWA, Big Daddy Kane or the Digital Underground.
It was all about the rhythm and the rhythm was dead-on accurate.
I heard some popular new rap hit yesterday and the guy rapping wasn't even close to being in time with the music. He was sorta mumbling way behind the beat. Then he'd start the next phrase 1/4 of a beat too early. The vocals had no rhythm. It was bizarre and I just don't get it.
It almost sounded like he was rapping to another song.
Was talkin to a dealer near my house recently and got to talkin about ordering a Custom TC ML... and I was pleased with all the options except the No Trem option or even Stop Tailpiece. I'm not a big fan of that V-string plate. Anyone know why they do this... or will they bend the rules if enough cash is fronted?
Will be doing my 1st pickup replacement surgery - any tips.
Going to be putting some new pups in my Hardtail Select.
Any tips or diagrams or concerns I should have?
And, what is this thing going around about by passing the tone knobs?
Question: My 5 yr old wants to learn how to play
by fnoogie on Mon Apr 04, 2005 12:51 pm
My 5 year old son has been interested in the guitar since he was 3. I told him that I would get him on one condition - that he plays it. He saw a baby V and a baby Z when I picked up my MLF last week. He instantly wanted one. The question is (with his little hands and arms in mind), should I get him a baby series, get him something with a smaller neck (less than 22 frets), or make him wait until he's older?
I Bring you DARTH TATER!!!!!!!
I was reading the news letter this morning and i am all for the DOA C.D. one problem i'm not in a band. The guitar i got down ,the bass i have down and i can suck at some vocals real quick i'm sure, but no drums. Does anybody know where i can get some real good drum sounds on the internet? I could use my trusty rp50 but the drums sound like one of those wind up monkey toys and that really wouldn't meet the standards for a doa members c.d. So, if anybody knows of anywhere i can go or, anybody who lives in the mesquite tx area that wants to jam just let me know.

I can't believe finding a flight case is so difficult
Still looking for a flight case for my Cadillac. I can't believe what a pain this is turning out to be....
Here's where I stand with different options
THE CASE THAT CAME WITH THE GUITAR
I don't think it will stand up to multiple flights. It's a nice case, but not flight worthy. It's technically oversized based on airline standards, but it close and it doesn't look big. If it were sturdier, this would work.
PUTTING THE EXISTING CASE IN A CARDBOARD SHIPPING BOX
This is way too big. I'd get hit with the $80 oversized fee with every flight. And the $80 is each way.
ANVIL FLIGHT CASES (OR SIMILAR BRAND)
Also too big. I've been getting charged the $80 oversized fee when I was flying with my Fenders. The Caddy case would be even bigger.
PELICAN (OR OTHER GUN CASES)
I love Pelican cases. Rock solid and lightweight. But the closest size rifle case is too narrow (slightly under 14"). I contacted thier custom shop - you need to order 100 pieces.
GATOR CASES
The Gator GPE-ELECTRIC case would work great. But it's too short for a Caddy.
SKG CASES
Also too short.
COFFIN CASES
Thier flight type cases will not fit a Caddy.
This is so frustrating....
i went to go see it.. i am a rabid fan of Frank Miller..
if you are into the Frank Miller graphic novels, this is a dream come true.. it's so close to the story and the overall look and feel is just like the books..

it's great.. i'm going to go see it again..

I need some help from any engineers at this board. I have a great Oklahoma History class and I have to interview a couple of engineers. It's a really short interview (15-20 questions), and I would greatly appreciate it if anybody could help. I can e-mail you the questions. On top of the questions, you would also have to e-mail my teacher to say that I did interview you and didn't make any of this up.
Thanks!

Pickup ID(no wars, please!!)
Ok. I don't want to run this into the ground(if it's not already plowed so deep in the dirt nobody wants to dredge it back up), but I'm a little curious as to what this thing is.
I believe we've established certain characteristics of both the Bill&Becky pickups and the EZ versions, but what the hell is this?! The chrome can says it should be Bill&Becky, but it's got Bill Lawrence USA on it. It's also got zebra coils, another Bill&Becky trait, but with thin blades. The last thing is that the coils are not buried in epoxy, as the EZ versions are, but only filled halfway up ala Bill&Becky.
What's your take on this, pickup experts? Oh, I forgot the most important point: it's got a dead coil It's probably just damage to the wire inside the can, likely not the coil itself. Can these be disassembled? Can this be fixed?(Sorry about the big pics but I can't reliably reduce them using my POS image hosting)

79 V reissue owners...tell me about your axe!
by Gamera on Tue Apr 05, 2005 2:51 pm
I want to hear all about 'em. I have my eye one a white one but I haven't actually had an opportunity to play one. So tell me what I can expect!
* How are the stock pickups? What do they compare to? If you've replaced them, what did you replace them with and why?
* How is the sustain? Since it's not a bolt-on neck I'm assuming it'll be noticably better than a Strat.
* How does it sound? Killer crunch? Palm mutes? Artificial harmonics? A V is pretty much a signature metal axe so I'm hoping it'll easily pull off all the signature metal tricks.
* What about overall fit/finish? What can I expect when I receive it? Will it likely be in desperate need of a pro setup or are they typically killer right out of the box? Weight-wise is it as heavy as it looks or is it a lightweight?
Thanks!
Check out these straplocks I found on Fleabay. I picked up a set. They aren't easily removed and put on, but ya gotta have 'em so why not get some cool looking ones.

Since BTMN brought up P-90s....
by kevphol on Tue Apr 05, 2005 8:15 pm
Has anybody used or heard the P-90s from Duncan (Phat Cats) or those from Kent Armstrong that are made to fit a standard humbucker slot?
I'm very intrigued with the thought of these in my Sarasota.
Home recording on your PC....??
I'm sure this has been covered recently but here goes again.
What is the easiest, hassle free, cheapest, user friendly way to record myself onto my PC?
There must be some software out there I could get started with???
Anyone point me in the right direction? Please?

Dean Selects--input anyone??
by Lurker on Wed Apr 06, 2005 1:09 am
I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my newly aquired ML Select. Which, incidently is scheduled to arrive the same day as my Dimebucker! (How cool is THAT??)
Anyway, I realize most of you guys (and dolls) are hardcore USA only, but I really like these Selects!! I also have a V, (as I'm sure you can tell..) but have been unsuccessful in my attempts to find any info on this line. History; wood types; year manufactured- that sort of stuff. Think ya'll can help me out with this, or at least steer me in the right direction?
My first Dean was a VX...and well... let's just say, when I scooped up my V-Select, I was thrilled!! Traded the VX for a Peavy 2x10 bass cab, which I needed at the time...
I've been a fan of Dean guitars for most of my life, just never got around to gettin' one. (let alone three minus one!!)I was initially enthralled with the very original V headstock! I remember bein' a kid and thinkin'- damn- that is the coolest thing ever!! (and wondered to myself- why doesn't ACE play one of those?!?)
Sadly though, as the time approaches...I still have no plans of gettin' a USA model, (yeah, I'm a cheap bastich) as my next planned purchases are the Razorback- (still haven't completely made up my mind which one since they're all priced the same..) and definately the DIME-O-FLAME!! Both made in Korea...(yes, I'm aware of the Rust- way outta my league!)
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read all this junk and for any info you may be able to provide!!
Deal of a lifetime!

Southern Cal. Dean-heads?
by Ed-ge on Wed Apr 06, 2005 1:16 pm
Greetings to all,
...haven't been here in ages but back for a more active role. If this is not the right place to post, my sincere apologies and please move.
I am relocating from New York City to southern Cal. in June '05 and am wondering who is from southern Cal. I am looking for suggestions on where to rent a 1 or 2 BR apartment 1) Encino, 2) Northridge, 3) Burbank, 4) Sherman Oaks, 5) Tarzana, 6) Brentwood.
Also, it would be cool to set up a southern Cal. DOA group to meet and greet and jam. Doesn't Florida Dean-heads do this already?
Looking forward to your input.

Hey there guys, I live in the Netherlands, as you might know (or not ) and I just started looking around at E-Bay and I found some really interesting things... BUT, they usually only accept, paypal- or Money Order, now, paypal is like a creditcard right? but what is Money Order? BTW the only thing we have is MasterCard.
And... are there allot of scams or not... (I think so myself, looking at some things like: ESP's for 200/300 and I'm not talking about LTD's...)
Hi.
What's the best stuff for cleaning the fretboard? Lemon oil has been mentioned more than once.

MEGADETH FESTIVAL
by BULL on Wed Apr 06, 2005 9:12 pm
Looks lame! Don't get me wrong I like Megadeth and all but the line up they have isnt that great. Dream Theatre, Dillanger Escape Plan, Fear Factory, Nevermore. I like Nevermore and Dream Theatre but how about some killer bands. I mean Dave like King's X and Michael Schenker how about them. There is talk of a second stage so well see how it pans out.
Dean headstocks in silhouette as seen from backstage.
pretty cool picture.
Edit - pic stolen from Jotun on the BWBK board.
Anyone have the link to the rules to the DOA CD? I literally just sat down after getting home from my buddies studio. I have my track but I need to know how to submit it. Thanks. Joe.
I got Angel - Helluva Band via a CD trade.............
I had never heard them, only how Punky Meadows was immortalized by Frank Zappa in Punky's Whip.
I really don't know where to start. I realize this album came out in 1976, and it does have parts that are pretty good. But, I also couldn't help noticing they were on Casablanca Records during the hayday of Kiss and Disco.
Were these guys taken seriously at the time? They seem like they were a step away from being pretty big - but were molded into being something of a farce. Most tunes have parts that are highly recognizable of being from another big band at the time. It's almost like they decided to have them write one song that sounds like a cross between Led Zeppelin, Rush and Kiss. Ok, for the next tune lets do something that sounds like Deep Purple, more specifically, let's have it sound like Burn. Another tune is screaming of a cross between Queen and Kiss. lots of Kiss sounds on this record. Almost sounds like Bob Ezrin was working overtime helping this band out as well.
just an observation by me, the clueless one!
Friend Laying guilt trips on me
by StratRat on Thu Apr 07, 2005 11:22 am
Ok. One of my friends tells me that I only need one guitar and amp. I have 13 guitars, 4 amps and a digitech and line 6 POD. I kinda feel guilty about having so much gear. I want to sell some things but there are a lot of guitars I wont part with like a Dean V,baby Z ,Ibanez , a few discontinued strats and my Dean custom zone hp(its hot pink). i love the way these guitars sound. each sounds different from the next and I like then all... The amps are another story. i'm in process of selling one amp and the didgitech to someone at work.
Well any way my friend says that her brothers both play bass in bands and have only one bass and amp and they dont need 13 different basses..just one and because I dont play in a band why do i need so many guitars.I think about selling but just cant part with then.
what´s the difference between 79 ML F and ML FBD?
i know that there is a dimebucker and some stickers on the FBD. also the black and silver hardware...
but is this all, for the price?
i hope you can help me with my problem.
Has anyone used the line 6 guitar port riff tracker? I'm thinking about gettin it.

What's the Same between TC and '79?
by mpire on Thu Apr 07, 2005 6:01 pm
Ok, we all know the differences betwen the USA's and the Imports.
Are there any parts that are common to all Deans tho? I'm obviously talking about the small stuff here.
Like the V plates behind the bridge, knobs, binding material, ferrules, switches etc etc...
Anyone?
M Audio Fastrack USB device..
Anyone tried/own this?
Looks great for the money.

tune-o-matic bridge saddles question
by sbill on Thu Apr 07, 2005 9:21 pm
if you look at the tun-o-matic style bridge saddles they have a bevel, kinda like a chisel. my question is wich way are the bevels supposed to face. my dean z came with the low e thru d bevel towards pickup and g trhru high e bevel away from pickup, ive seen a lot of guitars like that but i was cheking out a custom ml,(that cool trans black in this forum) and the saddels all face one direction, ive seen a few like that. is thier a difference or a "right" way?

Anything you can think of, photoshop it and post it here. I want to see how derranged you can get with your photos. Funny, Artsy, Sick, Collages just a sampling of how wierd and twisted you are able to make.
Rules are simple:
1. Any pictures you feel like photoshoping
2. No Hentai, Human Porn
3. Guitar porn is alright.
4. Dimension limit 600x600 pixels
Spray Paint + Guitar = ???
has anybody here ever tried to spray paint a guitar? Did it work? Would you reccomend it? I want to paint my baby ML, and I don't have an air brush, so I'm just curious if I could do it for cheap with spray paint.
Thanks
Tribute tattoo pic needed
Im doing a tribute tattoo this weekend and i need a good strait on picture of darrels dean from hell anyone got one they can post???thanks!!!
Opened my hardtail control cavity for pup replacement.......
Hmmmm......this doesn't look like the wiring pictures I've seen on the web. The stock pups only have 3 wires in them - a bare that is the ground and soldered to the top of the pot. And a White and a Red. Also - they go directly to the tone pots whiich is also different than the pics I've seen of the wiring diagrams.
The red goes to a single lead on the side of the pot, while the white goes to a junction that meets some other wires on the bottom running around in there.
Anyone know which is the hot wire for the original pups? My guess would be the red one. And the white one is part of the phasing/coil splitting.
So if this were the case - for a Seymour Duncan -
Green - ground - soldered to top of pot
Black - hot - soldered to where the current red one is
White and Red soldered together and joined to where the current white one goes?
Dimarzio
Green - Ground - soldered to top of pot
Red - Hot - soldered to where the current red one is
Black and White soldered together and connected to where the current white one goes
Does that make sense at all - figued this would be the easiest to keep it wired the way it is.......
*GULP*
Ok. I'm just wondering if anyone else is getting the s#%t kicked out of them by alergies ? I don't wanna be the only one.
I have a evo ss and need to know what is a good amp for around $250 max. Also what should I look for in one. As you can tell I am pretty ignorant about this stuff right now.

New pup install successful - couple pics
I got the pickups in my hardtail select - and they both work (although it's kinda noisy due to poor method on my part) The push pull coil tap thing doesnt work anymore - but that's not something I used on this guitar anyway. The X2N is a screamer at the bridge and the Pearly Gate has a nice mellow sound in the neck position. I'll see how it sounds through my real amp- at practice tomorrow night.

Tech Advice- New Bridge on a Caddy Select
by MrDave on Sat Apr 09, 2005 3:01 am
Can anyone recommend a new bridge that will fit on my Caddy Select without any mods? I talked to my local music store about putting on a new bridge today and was told they would have to dowel the current holes and re-drill to fit the specs of a new bridge.
Sorry, guitars and power tools don’t mix.
I'm looking for a gold "import style" with the large posts. The Caddy comes stock with an ABR. Do I have to get another ABR to avoid any complications?
I'd like to step up into something along the lines of a Gotoh or a Schaller but I'm not sure it's going to line up properly or have the correct studs to fit my threads. The ideal situation would be to find a bridge that fits on the current studs, lines up properly and is ready to go without a fuss.
Any advice or experiences would be helpful.
Avalanche/Strat Help and advice please

I just bought an Avalanche for a real good price and may possibly have another on the way as well. Normally a pointy guy but the strat pics and talk from a few weeks ago got me feemin' for one! Anyway I've also seen Fender pick guards on the bay preloaded with pick up upgrades, do the screwholes match up to the Dean's?
Also does Dean sell replacement necks for the Avalanches and if so where would I go to buy one?
Thanks!

Evo Gold Top Quest
by BLUEFOX on Sat Apr 09, 2005 12:39 pm
Hey folks I am new to the Dean scene and I have a Hardtail Select. I found an old 2003-04 catalog in tatters at a garage sale with some vinyl records and there is this gorgeous gold top EVO with soap bar
p/u's that I just have to have. Does anyone have any contacts with Dean people that may have one.
I looked on Ebay but no luck as yet. If they were discontinued maybe some Dean Dealer somewhere might have one left over. How do I find these people? Any help is appreciated, if someone has one for sale on this site please give me a shout I dont want to reinvent the wheel and buy some other brand that I dont want anyway.
Until I got my Hardtail I had never heard of Dean (ooooh the crowd utters!) Yep I was very much one of the unwashed doomed to the musical abyss....but lord now I am saved!!!Haleluyah I have been Deanafied!! Yeah lordy! I am so impressed by the construction of these guitars that I am now on a Dean Gold Top Holy quest the Musical Holy Grail that's the one I am after!
I'll buy one used if you have one for sale. You dealers out there go look in your store rooms bring those golden children of the Dean unto me! For lo the musical muse is with me and she led me to the Dean and I saw that it was goooooood!
Talk to me...

US Navy Releases Terrorist
US Navy Releases Terrorist
The US Navy today announced that it has released a senior Al Quaeda terrorist after questioning him extensively for 27 days while being held prisoner aboard a US aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea.
In a humanitarian gesture, the terrorist was given $50 US and a white 1962 Ford Fairlane automobile upon being released from custody.
The attached photo shows the terrorist on his way home just after being released by the Navy.
Hey All,
Still looking into amps and thought I would ask the trustworthy members of the Dean Forum:) I was just checking out Carvin's website and saw the MTS3200 stack package for under a grand. It has pretty good reviews on Harmony Central, but I was wondering if anyone has one or has tried one out on the forum. I am real curious to hear what this sounds like if anyone has any clips? Please let me know!
Gold Top EVO 60 Wanted.
by BLUEFOX on Sat Apr 09, 2005 5:35 pm
Started this thread on the Wire and Wood Forum before I found all the forums available. This is one great site, I am a nuubeee and my first Dean is a new Hardtail Select in Amber, what an amazing guitar. Needless to say I am sold so now I need a birthday present for myself. I turn 55... yep that's the hard nickle this month. So I am looking for that elusive Gold Top EVO 60 with Soap Bar pickups if you have one for sale NOS or used in good shape I am looking to buy or trade if I have something you might want. Please include a case/bag of some sort rather than shipping it only in a box. I was going to buy the PRS ES Soap model but I love the frets on the Deans so I dont want to spend the extra on a fret job. DOA member rexherring gave me a siting of a Sparkle colored EVO on ebay but I don't know if the Gold Top I am looking for is that heavy sparkle or not. In the picture it looked more like a fine metalic paint but I couldn't be sure.
Dealers welcomed, musicians wanting to thin out the herd, or guys that get spanked by their wives at night for lusting after yet another guitar. Bad Boy!
If you got one let me know we will work something out. If you have one in a different color please post them so that I can see what was available back then. By the way when did this guitar first come out?
thanks guys
eruption?
by Rickyg on Sat Apr 09, 2005 5:59 pm
how many of you can play eruption on the guitar.
I just purchased a red guitar body at a flea market for 5 bucks. The pick ups are in it and they work. Though someone added an extra job and did an excellent job wiring it up. I just nned to get a neck. I think its a dean body but the bridge pick up is a V 8 which I think I banez uses so I dont know. I want a nice and pointy neck.

BLS CONCERT TONITE updated!(now with pics)
leaving soon for the tsongas arena in lowell mass to see BLS, killswitch engage, nonpoint, and skindred
damageplan is making an appearance there too and i cant wait
bringin a couple sharpies and my CFH booklet in attempt to get a signature from damageplan/zakk wylde
ill post details tonite or tomorrow morning
wish me luck on meeting damageplan and zakk!!
okay so last nite i went to the concert..it was SICK, i didnt get to meet DP or zakk , but i did meet killswitch and got all 5 of their autographs, zakk was supposed to pre-sign 100 mafia booklets , so my dad got one and i did too but we had to wait for the booklets to arrive, but zakk became sh*tfaced and had interviews so he never did them and people were pissed off, it sucked. skindred and nonpoint were okay, i dont really listen to them. killswitch put on a great show, especially since it is their home state. then this guy, i cant remember his name, came out with i think a dean and had a drum machine, bass playing thing, and he played a sweet tribute to dime, playing parts of pantera and damageplan songs; it brought tears to the crowds eyes. then, it is finally time for BLS and the radio DJ for the station putting the concert on said zakk was well into his 2nd or 3rd dozen blacktooth, so it was going to be a fun show. played a couple songs with the polkadot V, then the les paul, then he started talkin about dime, pulled out the razorback and i must say that thing looked and sounded amazing. then it was back to the polkadot V, and he played suicide messiah; but it wasnt just his band playing it, VINNEY PAUL came out and played his heart out on drums , it was a great surprise. then some more songs, then he pulled out an acoustic and played a bunch of improv then started to play mama im comin home and the audience sang along, another cool moment. then after some more songs vinney played another song on drums, i cant remember what one it was but it was sick. then the DJs found out that the concert had gone over the time limtit (it was 12 30 almost) so vinney bobzilla and some other people came out on stage for a short time.
hearin that tribute for dime the guitarist did made it truely hit me that dime is never to play onstage again just hearin all them say how zakk was right about him bein up in gods tavern.
i got one of the tribute shirts and its sweet, 25 bucks but it was worth it and all the procedes from the shirts and im not sure about the tickets go to the dimebag memorial fund and to help the famlies of mayhem and the other people hurt and injured
wooo that was a long thing to type
heres some pics from the WAAF site
frozen/stripped bolt removal
an odd question for here I know, but maybe some of you guys have encountered this, and can help me here.....
I am taking apart playground equipment from a local Church's playground. almost every bolt on this equipment is a hex bolt, not standard hex, but but the allen wrench type of head on it. These things have been in place for 20 years or so. You obviously know where I'm going here....
needless to say, when you hook up the 9/16 to the nut on the bolt, and the allen socket on the other side, about 50% of the allen sides torque out, and won't turn then, and then I have no way to keep torque on the Allen wrench side, and not enough room to apply the bolt cutters.

Thought you guys could enjoy the laugh
Found this posted on the MAB fourm ...
I'm a bit pissed.... it seems the guy who does Pointy Guitars.com has lost interest and is selling his site on eBay. The Domain Name, Website, and Inventory, including the photos.... they're NOT his photos. He contacted me ages ago and asked if he couple post some of my guitars on his site. No problem, but he doesn't own my photos and has no right to sell them.
I've noticed a few Deans on there and figured if any of you guys have pix there, you may want to write him and remind him he doesn't "own" the pix. I've written him and am hoping he's just going to say "sorry, I didn't think of that and have changed the wording on the ad." And I'd be happy with that.
Anyone here got pix there? Thoughts?

Did you know Samick made tube amps?
by matthew on Sun Apr 10, 2005 7:15 am
Heck, neither did I. That is, until I just won one.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7313332017&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT
Darned if I can find much out about them. It seems that Vantage (a subsidiary of Samick?) made a T50R with a 12" driver, but otherwise these things are a mystery.
I'm not really a great guitarist, so I'm sure I'll be happy enough with the sounds this thing makes. Ponch and I are going to see Anthrax in a few weeks. I'll get him to put it through a workout while he's here, and get his opinion on whether it's actually usable for someone that knows what they're doing.
Either way, I'm pretty happy about picking up a 50W all tube amp for AU$360 (~usd$275) shipped.

Vendetta 4.0 TE arrived! Needs new pickups...
by Deformed on Sun Apr 10, 2005 12:30 pm
First of all, thanks to Bernt the forumite and Dave from B&T for making this possible Dean guitars are hard to find in Norway...
It arrived yesterday, in that sweet, sweet enormous cardboard box Brutally dissected it, and inside lay the nice Dean case. If that wasn't enoug, inside the case, there actually was a guitar, all nice and everything! *Impressed* The guitar looks N-I-C-E! Waaay impressed with the finish on this one. It is also smooth to play, the setup is perfect, action nice and low etc.
BUT: plugged it into my Fireball, and I was disappointed to some extent. The pickups really suck balls, no chug, no brutality. I've got a Gibby 500T that eats the vendetta bridge pickup alive, and still has room for lunch.
So I need your help. I live in Norway, and here, pickups are really expensive. A dimebucker for instance, costs 1995NOK. That equals about 315USD... So of course, I'm gonna order from the U.S. Which pickup/pickups would you recommend, and which shop? I'm thinking X2N, but the L500-XL seems nice as well. Then also, there's the invader, dimebucker, superdistortion...
I need chug. I've got a duncan livewire metal humbucker in my Carvin, and it's really nice for chug and definition on the 4 darkest strings. But on the B and E string, the pickup sounds really fabricated/phoney, so I'm thinking passive this time.
Any help appreciated

USA Hardtail and Hardtail Select
I was wanting to know if it would be worth the extra money to get the USA HT if your just gonna put new pickups in it anyways? So would it be better to buy the Select if your gonna put new Pickups in? Because besides the pickups, is the USA HT that much better (if the finish doesn't make a difference to you)? Thanks guys.
I was wanting to know what you all think of this pickup. I'm looking into putting the Burstbucker 2 in my bridge and eventually putting one in the neck (maybe a 1?). I play alot of classic rock stuff (huge Zeppelin fan) and a good source told me that this would be a great pickup.

I was browsing through the guide on my digital cable box and noticed that next week's HBB is only on for an hour, instead of two as usual, followed by all of the lame "Jackass" style programming that seems to have become their centerpiece for Saturday night programming on MTV2.I should have figured it out when garbage like "Team Sanchez" kept bleeding into the HBB time slot.Anyone know if this is a temporary move, or is HBB slowly on it's way out again?

by mpire on Mon Apr 11, 2005 8:00 pm
The metallica "movie" was playing all week on VH1, I had been interested to watch it, mostly from a train wreck perspective.
Wasn't disappointed...
What a bunch of whining, egotistical jackasses.
Lars and James obviously far more advanced in that category than Kirk.
The first 3/4 of the movie, other than the constant moping, the only parts I remember are James' photos of killing a bear (It's ok, the bear had just come out of hibernation so was kinda sluggish ) and lars selling a painting for $5 million dollars (Sad, because it was possibly the worst painting I've ever seen ).
It's weird tho, the pace and interest level kicked up significantly when Robert Trujillo enters the picture, and even though I really dislike the last CD, I was pulling for them. It was like Spinal Tap fused with an underdog sports movie. There may have even been a 'training montage' in there. If only they'd used "eye of the tiger" instead of Saint Anger.....
Maybe they'll do a sequel.

At the present time I have NO desire to buy or sell any guitars or amps! Yup you heard it here first. My oldest is moving out the end of June and I'm taking his room over as a music room, so there'll be some money spent there making it "mine". Add to that I finally have 4 guitars and an amp that I am totally satisfied with. I have a Strat, a fat strat, a dual humbucker guitar, and an acoustic/electric. My amp is a Kustom KGA-65 and to my ears is the best amp I've ever owned. Nothing else is catching my fancy and I don't have any desire to scour the pawnshops. What's wrong with me??? Probably won't last, but it's a rather calming feeling not searching ebay every day looking for stuff. I've actually been playing the damn things for a change.
Dean and Tonic?

Anyone know anything about these models?
I can't remember hearing about them on the forum... Not the most popular Dean I suppose?
Dean Tonic S Flame or Dean Tonic S Black/Gold, both of these are new-old-stock in mint condition, truly original design with uniquely shaped mahogany body with a dual-color finish and a headstock that utilizes a 2/4 tuner arrangement for its black Grovers, 25-1/2" scale maple neck with rosewood fingerboard with diamond markers, Dean Silver Rail and Mini Silver Rail pickups provide a combination of fat single-coil, dual-coil, and out-of-phase sounds, Tune-o-matic bridge with strings-thru-body design, these are excellent quality imports with list price of $459 (flamed maple) or $369 (plain top) but offered here WITH hardshell case for $250/ea

Hi. Recently purchased a Korean Select V, got it for a sniff over $350. The general consensus was that this was a good deal.
Can anyone give me an idea of what it might be worth?
I appreciate this is tricky with out seeing it properly, but check this thread for some initial pics:

Just a rough 'ball park' figure will do. Bear in mind the gold finish is a little 'time' tarnished and there are one or two minor dings in it.
Just curious really.

Charlie Daniels Band in Iraq
by tnvol on Tue Apr 12, 2005 2:13 pm
The Charlie Daniels Band is touring Iraq playing for the soldiers and this morning he came to my FOB and I got to check him out. Pretty killer show. His guitar players are INCREDIBLE. He is also a pretty insane player. I know he is known for his fiddle playing but the dude can flat out shred on a guitar. I wanted to get him to sign my guitar but he was playing 3 or 4 shows today so he was pretty much in and out. He pretty much flew in on a blackhawk 10 minutes before he hit the stage and was gone right after it was over. I did get to say hello and shake his hand so that was cool. The whole set was pretty much guitar heavy southern rock. The dude can still sing his ass off after all these years! Seeing him play Uneasy Rider and Devil Went Down To Georgia live was pretty killer!!!!!
help to identify this ... and recommend a pickup
by Grim on Tue Apr 12, 2005 2:37 pm
first of all - hi to all (first post on this forum
I asked the question on HCAF but I was suggested to repeat it here since it is Dean related:
ok - I got a guitar - it is Dean neck through , could not identify which year (it has strange narrow head stock) - I bought it used for dirt cheap - can you try to guess what model/prod/year that might be ???
take a look:
front
back
and I do have serious pickup dillema
it is regarding bridge pickup - I replaced stock one with PRS dragon treble - which I love for its mids ... but ...
1) it does not have enough gain for my type of music
2) this guitar is so baaaasy because of neck-through ... I cannot tame bass coming out of it (I tune to D or C) - so I even ended up in using Keeley SD-1 to tame some bass and add gain to it ... but it is still not 'that'
The other guitar I have is ibanez rg3120 with emg 81 - and that is sounding awsome.
I'm seriously thinking of going for EMG for this one ... still not decided on which emg - 85 ? 81 ?
I've played 85 in bridge position in my friends Lukather MM ... and it was great - plenthora of mids ... but it is alder guitar and does not have a lot of bass on its own, and 85 are said to give a lot of bass. In my Dean I do have a lot of bass ... and still want gain ... should I go for 81 than ?
or maybe anything passive is an alternative ?
help, please
How many former or military on this forum... just curious...
Me... US Navy Corpsman for 10 years active duty.. got out in 2000
Placed an order on a Dean Vx and an Esp F - 50 Probably shouldn't have because i have no money in my acount but thank god for overdraft protection. And income tax should get here before the end of the week.

HUGE question
by chambers on Wed Apr 13, 2005 12:25 am
alright, if you go to http://www.deanguitars.com/fbd_dimebag_tribute_ml.htm under the image it says "* The FBD (Far Beyond Driven) Dimebag Tribute ML is the ML that Darrell played most of his early days." does that mean that Dime played a 79 ML as opposed to a USA made one? I find that hard to believe
NEED ADVICE. YES IT IS TRUE.
OK HERE IT IS. FOR THOSE THAT KNOW HOW TO MIC A GUITAR AMP PLEASE CHIME IN. THOSE WHO ARE IGNORANT LIKE MYSELF PLEASE DO NOT ADD TO MY FUSTRATION. OK HERE'S THE DEAL FIRST OFF. YEAH I KNOW HOW TO MIC AN AMP FOR LIVE BUT I AM HAVING THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IVE EVER ENCOUNTERED FOR RECORDING. IVE TRIED EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN. IVE TRIED SURE SM57, CONDENSOR MICS, BASS DRUM MICS, RUNNING STRAIGHT INTO MY COMPUTER WITH THE MIC, GOING THROUGH A MIXER, GOING THROUGH A P.A BOARD, STEREO MICS, OFF AXIS MICS, AMP UP LOUD AMP DOWN LOW, MIC CLOSE, MIC FAR AWAY, MIC IN CENTER OF SPEAKER MIC OFF TO THE SIDE, IN EVERY COMBINATION YOU CAN POSSIBLY THINK OF FOR LIKE A WEEK NOW EVERYDAY AND STILL GET THE SAME CRAPPY RESULTS. I HAVE TRIED MY ADA MP-1 AND MY PEAVEY 5150II WITH DIFFERENT GUITAR COMBINATIONS TOO. .PROBLEM IS..................
1. STEREO RECORDINGS HAVE MODULATION SOUND, LIKE SOMEONE TURNED THE CHORUS ON. NO MATTER IF I RECORD THE SECOND GUITAR TRACK OR IF I CHEAT AND CLONE THE FIRST ONE AND EQ IT DIFFERENTLY ON THE SECOND TRACK.
2. SINGLE TRACK RECORDING JUST DOESNT SOUND LIKE THE AMP (KINDA BUZZY AND THIN) SOUNDS OK BUT NOT PERFECT
3. RECORDING HAS A WIERD WOOFY SOUND LIKE IT IS RECORDING THE AIR. HARD TO EXPLAIN.
4. GET THAT ODD MODULATION SOUND WITH BEHRINGER V-AMP PRO AND A MIC'D TRACK TOO EVEN IF I RECORD THE V-AMP AND GUITAR TRACK AT THE EXACT SAME TIME 2 TRACKS AT ONCE.
ANYONE HAVE IDEAS . PLEASE HELP.
Any one own a ML professional?

Repair help, please!
by Bri54 on Wed Apr 13, 2005 8:49 pm
The spot right in front of the bridge pickup is not glare...it looks to be a little chip right through the laquer and to the wood underneath. Is there a way to repair this that doesn't cost an arm and a leg??? Or should I just return this one for a refund since that spot will drive me nuts?
Thanks!

4. somwhere around $300-$400 would be great.
Any suggestions you guys have would be greatly appreciated, Thanx.
Gripmaster - anyone use it?
by fnoogie on Thu Apr 14, 2005 7:14 am
If so, what do you think? Any recommendations/routines? I travel lots for my job so I keep one in the car.
Behold , my new Dean ML has arrived.........
Well, part of my tax refund went to buy my new Dean guitar, a 79' ML Brazilia with a Floyd. It's pretty nice, and plays well. The only thing I definately plan on doing is swapping out the pickups for something that sounds better. I'll probably throw my favorite Seymour Duncan's in this one.
I couldn't wait for my Dime-O-Flame, so I had to pick this thing up.
BY THE WAY..... Some of you are correct about the Brazilia finish!!! It looks so much more impressive in person, because it all depends on the light when photographing the guitar. Sometimes it looks brown, sometimes it looks redish, but in person, it looks more gold / brown, and NOT red at all. Check out the pics to see how it really makes a difference in lighting and angles whether it comes out red or brown.....

More fun with buying a case for my Caddy
The good news = I finally found a case for my Caddy. I contacted over 10 case companies. Only 4 responded and 1 (Flight Form in Washington) would do the Caddy case for a reasonable price.
Now the fun begins.....
I needed to trace my guitar on paper. I get up a 4:00 a.m. to do this tracing. I have twin 3 year olds and a giant puppy. Putting my guitar on the floor is a recipe for disaster.
I'm about finished with the tracing when I catch a glipse of my son and the dog running full speed into the room. My son is small, but 'Wilma' (a nearly full grown Newfoundland) is 130 pounds. I catch Wilma in mid air and spin and grab my son. It looked like a move from 'The Matrix'....
I finally get the tracing and measurements done. I call the company and they say I MUST have the tracing in on Thursday in order to get the case done for the first show.
I buy a large 36" tube and put the tracing in. I'm in a large line at the post office waiting. Another customer says that the tube is too big for overnight delivery. Now I'm worried....
I get the counter and good news! The tube is not too big for Express mail. Then really bad news... The post office takes 2 days to deliver to this address. GRRR!
So I go to FedEx. 'No problem' they say. As long as the address is not a post office. The address is not, so I pay FedEx and everything is well.
Well, not quite.....
I check the case companies website this morning. For contact address they have the same one I sent it to, but the first line says 'PO BOX'. The address on the spec paperwork said nothing about a po box, so maybe I'm o.k. I will call them this morning to find out.

Dean Guitars in the News

Updated: I added a close up scan so everyone can read it better -
If there was no Dean, what guitars would you play?
If there was no Dean, what guitars would you play?
I thought about this for awhile this morning. I first thought Fender or Gibson, but after seeing some of the quality on Guitar Center models, I don't think I'd go there.
PRS? I like thier older guitars, but haven't been crazy about the later models.
I decided I'd probably get a neck / body from Warmoth and just put something together.
But luckily, there is a Dean, so I don't have to worry about that.

So then with out futher adue I give you the great Ranma tour yes I look forward to driving these (see picture) and may be in a town near you soon. In fact I will be close to Bass&Treble's shop while I am training to drive this baby (see picture). Your toughts here. Start Panicing
It pays to check out all the details before dealing with people via Ebay!
I got screwed on a Hardtail Select deal. Before bidding on this guitar at an Ebay auction, I sent the seller an email requesting the shipping price. In the meantime someone outbid me. But, the seller contacted me anyway claiming to have two more units left He said that he would sell me one at the same price as the winning bid. He was supposed to send me an invoice, which I believed meant that we would conduct the transaction via Ebay. Since all my other dealings have been excellent and I have dealt with some great people, I didn't think much of it. So, I unknowingly went ahead with an offsite transaction.
Well the long and the short of it is: I send a money order to the guy and never got the guitar, nor will he return my emails now that he had gotten the money.
My mistake was that I didn't force it to go through Ebay. I did not pay attention to what I was doing because I was caught up in the excitement of getting a great deal on a nice guitar. (US$350 for a brand new Hardtail Select is a bit too good, I think.)
Anyone reading this should be cautious when getting involved in online transactions; take steps to protect yourself and never become complacent.
Oh ya, and watch out for this guy:
Seller Ebay user name: rbetsiev (location in profile says Tn, USA)
Money Order Sent to: Brian DeYoung, Aurora, Co (I won't give his address)
I contacted the IFCC (FBI), Ebay (can't do anything because the transaction was off site) and Square Trade...Let's hope I get satisfaction...
I feel like oatmeal today
I feel like s#%t. Anybody else?
Mmmmmmmm....Can you say P-90s????? (w/obligatory pics)
by kevphol on Fri Apr 15, 2005 3:13 pm
Voila! P-90s are now in my Sarasota, and with chrome metal rings! (the rings are a little hard to see from the pics though)
If you can say P-90s, can you say FAT?? Because that IS the tone in a word - FAT! They are also set up so that in the middle selector position (both pups together) they function as a humbucker.
These things are very cool and very unique. Just got a few minutes last night to hear them through the amp, but here are my first impressions. Clean settings - think early ZZ Top, BB King, etc. Dirty settings - think again classic ZZ Top, Ted Nugent (like Stranglehold - especially the tones from the bends and high leads). I'm diggin' them already!

Props to Dean and Webguy
by jade on Sat Apr 16, 2005 5:51 am
Basically, I just want to give props to Dean and all those involved (Webguy) for giving respect to a man that deserves it: Zakk Wylde. Not only is the picture up on the page and "In This River" playing...but this is also a tribute to Dime as well. I don't really know what I want to say about it or how to say it, I just think it's great that you guys put that up there...
Lord Weird Slough Feg - anyone into this band?
http://www.slough-feg.com/
I've recently gotten Twilight of the Idols and Down Amoung the Deadmen and must say I'm enjoying them. They are an odd mix of Iron Maiden with Scottish drinking song tinge. This band might not appeal to everyone, but I think they're fun to listen to.
Any Maiden fans out there should check them out.
...And it's packed to ship to New Jersey. I'm about to be Dean-less for the first time in 25 or so years. I've really thinned the herd this time. I'm down to four strats and one tele 'body', no neck for it. I've got two customs to assemble and finish, but no plans to do it soon. I can almost walk into the booth in my studio again. But, I've got too many amps. Might list a few soon.

my marshall JCM 2000 keeps poping when i play it its like a deep thud! any thoughts
i saw it this morning, it was an amazing sight, god came down, and he gave me a sign, and said, "thou shalt playith thy dean, as it is thy staff, and thou shalt rockith!!!" and he showed me this sign...
haha, well the whole god thing never happened, but i just felt compelled to post this pic i took a few days ago, because i thought it turned out pretty cool, and i felt like startign a useless thread.... post your own sunlight reflection guitar porn!!!!
Well my Select V is for sale, my Caddy select has come and gone, and I'm now left with the dilemma of what the hell kind of guitar to go for next.
There's been a huge void to fill after parting with my guitar of 14 yrs, my trusty 1990 Les Paul Custom. I know G*bson might be a dirty word to some here, but that guitar was one sweet player.
Anyways, can't afford a new Les Paul, and can't afford to buy several Deans either. There can be only one!
I'm stuck between pointy and not.
It's a '79 ML, or the Evo Special Select. I'm not playing with a band just now and no plans to, so just 'spare room rock' for the forseeable.
It's mostly rock stuff I play and I know the attributes of the ML for serious damage, but what about the Evo as a kind of all rounder?
Anyone want to throw in their 2 cents?
Much appreciated again,
Ally.
Im getting a new real floyd rose for my ml and i found one at www.Iwantguitars.com for 150.00 I thought that was pretty cheap for the real deal!!!
DOA ML #21
by Lon on Sun Apr 17, 2005 9:26 pm
Who had it? I saw it today, along with a DBJSBML at the Indy GC. The saleshole said someone named Dave Engle traded them in yesterday along with about 10 other guitars on a vintage Les Paul. They want $799 for it. Only $249 for the silverburst. The DOAS still has the plastic on the pups and rear covers.

saw a really gret concert last night at a club....
i didn't think it was going to be but it was... i saw skid row and slaughter... i wasnt' really a slaughter fan in their hey day but what a gret show... and to top it all of... mark slaughter was playing a really nice american caddy... i got pictures with my phone i just have to figure out how to upload and i will post them...
skid row minus sebastion bach still kicked ass.. i talked to snake sabo and scotti hill for a good while before they went on.. snake was a really cool guy.. told me he has 4 deans and loves them all two hard tails and two z's i told him he should get a razor back and he said he would come to the site and check one out.... he gave me a handfull of picks and a copy of their new cd.. scotti talked about darrell and how great of a player he was.. i would have given anything to talk to these guys in the day and it was like no one new who they where they were just standing out side drinking a beer.. i knew.. f ucking great guys.. haven't lisdtened to the whole cd yet but te songs they play off of it are really heavy and different than their usual... i was impressed..
mark slaughter chatted with me for a minute... said he picked up his guitar from a fried who owns a music store.. he said it was his favorite i told him about the site and the DOA.. he said he would check it out.. .. thqat guy sang perfect for every song.. that guy can whale... i was impressed..
great small venue cioncert.. got to not only meet but actually bullshiit with one of my all time favorite guitarists.. then on top of it all my freinf and i met some girls and went hot tubbing.. over all a +1 night..

I got my Zakk Wylde Les Paul this weekend and let me tell you that baby rips!!!!!!! I know most of you are anti-Gibson but this guitar is sweet. Now I can't wait till my Dean From Hell arrives.
Is there anything better about the speedloader floyd rose than the original other than the easiness of string changes? Does it set in the guitar the same as an original.
What other types of Floyds are there? Besides the original Floyd Roses. I know of the Drop Tuning ones, but thats it. Thanks.

Dean Avalanche
by Faust on Mon Apr 18, 2005 3:27 pm
I was looking for a sunburst Avalanche, but I wanted something with more of a "Deanish" headstock. I found this one on ebay for a really good price so I thought I might give it a try.
I have not ventured into the under $300 category for a while, so I thought it would be cool to try my hand at a cheaper Dean. I am actually very impressed with this axe... the fretwork on it is amazing. With a little bit of tweaking, this could be a really monstrously fast player. The Tremolo actually stays in tune, which I find impressive for a guitar with no locking tuners or locking nut. The pickups are fairly weak... but they do not squeal or feedback microphonically, so they are pretty decent in that regard. The neck is great! It has a nice satin finish on it and the frets are well dressed and feel smooth to the touch.
All this guitar needs is a mod to the electronics and it will be good to go. I am very pleased... and the price makes these guitars a steal!

Sounds like this person is putting more into this axe than there really is. I am not ragging on a '85 hollywood Z, but if it was the first one made wouldn't the serial number be 85 00001, or something like that. If this is the real deal than that is a good price for one, but I doubt it. any input on this?

No longer for sale...and I'm kind of glad too. I had got to the point of almost praying for no bids to be entered, I figured this was telling me something
I've played it constantly since listing it on fleabay, and it's really starting to 'shine' now. I learned to play it comfortably sitting down and it just feels so well balanced.
An ML would be nice, but they are HUGE, and kind silly looking on my small frame.
Plus there aren't many alternatives for the kind of cash I have.

Check this out! A guitar purse in the shape of an ML (sorta). Yeah it's got a pickguard but it's still a cool item.
Question for the fitness gurus
I generally weigh around 190 pounds. My weight occasionally fluctuates +/- 15 pounds depending on how much I am exercising.
I got as low as 159 within the past 2 years. At that weight I had a full physical. The kind with blood work, lung checks, treadmill running, etc. I checked out as 'excellent' and the doctor said 'keep doing what you are doing'.
What I was doing was basic - lots of exercise and watch what I eat.
After the long winded intro - here's my question -
I was drinking a lot of Myoplex protein shakes and having the occasional Carb Solutions bar as a snack.
I hate both of them! The Myoplex is flavored like milk based drinks. Like Chocolate Milkshake or Strawberry Milkshake. I HATE drinks like that. I love strawberry, but not strawberry milkshakes. I like strawberry juliuses, dacquiri's or margaritas. These have a more juice based taste, not milkshake based. I mix the Myoplex with water and I've tried watering it down. It still has the milkshake flavor.
The carb solutions bars are all chocolate based. Chocolate chip, chocolate cookie dough, etc. I'm not a chocolate bar fan.
Does anyone know of a good protein drink (without a ton of carbs, but with some) that doesn't try to be a milkshake?
Does anyone know of a snack bar that doesn't have chocolate in it?
Mark

Homebrew Custom Guitar (non-Dean)
by Faust on Tue Apr 19, 2005 8:18 pm
This is my first homebrew custom in a long time. It is based upon a Japanese Guild Burnside guitar. I'm not going to slaughter a Dean while learning how to clear coat with a rattle can!
The Coop logo on the headstock says it all... I can't post the pictures of the body on this forum... It's a X-rated guitar... my first and probably not my last one!
I am naming it the "Devilcaster". It is a Charvel-like Tele with 2 single coils and a humbucker. The trem is a Japanese Kahler knock-off.
The evolution has only begun... Pickups, wiring and setup are still ahead of me.
The clearcoat is drying right now... so I thought I would kill a little time and post a teaser pic. I call this a Pterodactyl headstock.
Why can't they make the Razorback more affordable or come out with a cheaper line of Razorbacks
Ok, theres this guitar shop down my street, they have a lot of vintage stuff, its pretty cool, anyway, they have a black 82 Dean V, with a kahler, for sale over there. Its a little beat up,but in pretty good condition. They want $999 for it,I think its kinda pricey, but I dont know how much Deans usualy go for. I just want to see what you guys think. I really want a Dean, but this is the only place in town, that I know of, that has any. I was thinking of saving money to buy it but figured that if Im going to spend a $1,000 on a guitar,I might as well buy Dime-O-Flame or a FBD Tribute. Do you think this price is resonable?
being a left handed guitarist hasnt left me with very many options and ive been eyeing this dean xml with a floyd rose but i havent been able to find a dealer that will sell me a left handed version. i know that its probably impossible to find something like that but if you have any clue or ideas i am wide open thanks
Gonna Go Pretend...... Crue Road Trip review added
by BTMN on Wed Apr 20, 2005 12:31 pm
I'm headed out on a Road Trip to Jacksonville to see Motley Crue tonight. I'll report back tomorrow with any fun details and Dean sightings.
I got my new esp h-50 last night (for a $200 guitar it kicks ass), got my $1000 computer put together and was all set to play with the line six guitar port. My Xp c.d. has a crack in it. They have all the money in the world and can't send me a c.d. in good condition. Bastards.
Sorry if this offends any of my Republican friends
George Speaks Out On Education Issues..
President Bush was visiting a primary school and he visited one of the classes. They were in the middle of a discussion related to words and their meanings. The teacher asked the President if he would like to lead the discussion on the word "tragedy".
So the illustrious leader asked the class for an example of a "tragedy".
One little boy stood up and offered:
"If my best friend, who lives on a farm, is playing in the field and a tractor runs over him and kills him, that would be a tragedy."
"No," said Bush, "that would be an accident."
A little girl raised her hand: "If a school bus carrying 50 children drove over a cliff, killing everyone inside, that would be a tragedy."
"I'm afraid not," explained the president. "That's what we would call a great loss."
The room went silent. No other children volunteered. Bush
searched the room.
"Isn't there someone here who can give me an example of a tragedy?"
Finally at the back of the room a small boy raised his hand.
In a quiet voice he said: "If Air Force One carrying You and Mrs. Bush was struck by a "friendly fire" missile and blown to smithereens, that would be a tragedy."
Fantastic!" exclaimed Bush. "That's right. And can you tell me why that would be tragedy?"
"Well," says the boy, "It has to be a tragedy, because it certainly wouldn't be a great loss and it probably wouldn't be an accident either."

Just booked a festival gig for Allentown PA on June 3rd.
Just for the heck of it, I'm doing some research on some Caddy's...
What makes are out now, I've heard stuff pertaining to them not even being in production anymore and whatnot. What kind are in production? Both Korean and US info is appreciated.
What kind of electronics do they have?
What finishes/colors do they come in?
Anything else I should know?
I got fukked!!!!! Musicians Friend..........
This is the most messed up thing I have encountered! I bought a Randall X2 4x12 cabinet from musicians friend because they were the last one that I found that still stocked them. They took my money, verified my acount and was set to ship the cabinet. Its been a few days since it was to arrive so I called to find out if they sent it yet. They said no, the order was cancelled because the item was no longer in stock. Im like CANCELLED!! What the gar!! They were like yea we called you and left a message on your machine and talked to your wife and confirmed the cancellation. Needless to say I told them that I do not have an answering machine and I would have known if they called...Caller ID. So here I am enraged because now I have the X2 head and no cabinet available for it. I asked how could this happen? The guy I talked to that took my order said he was looking at the cabinet when I placed my order, so I knew it was in stock. Then the guy I talked to today said that the computer must have just shown it was still in stock and it was overlooked, I said to him the guy was looking at the damn thing when I was on the phone with him, he said there was two of them. Anyway the guy kept giving me excuses why this happened. Well I thought about it and I remember telling the guy at the time of order that it was discontinued, because he was trying to sell me replacement insurance,(why would I need it if it was discontinued?) So this is what I think happened. Once they found out it was discontinued they sold it out from under me because it had not been sent out yet, or since I wasnt in the store physically they are hanging on to it for themselves, I wopuld not like to think this is what happened but thier story is just too fishy for me. I will not be shopping from Musicians Friend again...SOO if any body here knows of where I can get this 4x12 cabinet it would be much appreciated.
Well here she is My new Gibson. I love this guitar you can knock the hell out of the harmonics all damn day on this and it sounds heavier than crap. No Complaints and the craftmanship on this particular guitar is the cat's ass.

This Is NOT A Dimebag Model Guitar
Just cruising around on Evilbay and saw this.I wish that these dealers would stop calling any ML shaped guitar a Dimebag model.I realize that Dime was the player most recognized for using an ML,but to call every ML a Dime guitar seems a bit deceptive.

OK I AS SOME PEOPLE KNOW, I AM IN THE MARKET FOR A NEW AMP. I HAVE OWNED SO MANY HEADS IT IS REDICULOUS. I DONT WANT TO HEAR ABOUT WHAT YOU THINK IS BETTER . I HAVE PLAYED ALMOST ALL OF THEM AND HAVE OWNED ALMOST ALL AT LEAST THE ONES WORTH MENTIONING. I OWNED A DUAL RECTIFIER ONCE. BRAND NEW STRAIGHT OFF THE SHELF. MINE ROCKED FOR THE FIRST COUPLE OF HOURS OF ITS LIFE. I AM REALLY LEARY OF BUYING ANOTHER ONE BUT MOST OF THE NEWER RECORDINGS I LIKE ARE DUAL RECTIFIERS. MY 5150II SOUNDS LIKE ASS AND MY ADA MP1 ISNT BRUTAL ENOUGH. WHAT ARE YOUR EXPERIENCES WITH DUAL RECTIFIERS ?

Question about a Dean Cadillac
I came across about a '92 Dean Cadillac,it is a 3 p/u model,it has the dean logo Pearl inlaid on the Headstock,it is black with the Ivory binding around the body and headstock as well, but there is no serial number on it.It has a medium c neck,is a slim body, and weighs about 6 pounds.Oh yeah,it has dot inlays and a rosewood fretboard. This guitar is not a standard thing according to the bluebook.I just want to know if there is anyway to tell if it is an import or American without the serial number. All of the options I listed are inconsistant with a specific modle. For example,According to the bluebook, the American ones have 3 pups, block inlays, and ebony board....but this one has dots and is rosewood, but it lists the import as available in only the 2 pups.Is there anything else I should look for?Any help would be appreciated.I want to buy it,but do not want to get taken for a ride.......Thanks....

Anyone try a V in a coffin V case?
I know.... I know....
MORE CASE ISSUES!!!!!
I thought I had my case problems resolved. My flight case is on the way for my TC Caddy and my Vendetta fits in my strat flight case.
However, I'm thinking I may want to take my '79 V also.
I've heard good things about Coffin and they do make a FLying V case, so I'm wondering if that case also fits a Dean V.

Hi. Anyone else use this?
I've recorded my little ditty for the DOA Guitarmageddon thingy but my solo is panned hard left.
How can I split it so it's coming out of both speakers??
Anyone....

DR strings?
by cyd666 on Fri Apr 22, 2005 6:49 am
My local shop just got the dime DR strings in..... so of course I bought a couple sets. I am going to use them on my Ml and my King V for a gig tonight. I was just wondering if anybody has good or bad things to say about them. Especialy in the life department... I always have backups with me... but I hate to loose a string mid song. I was using the Zakk boomers before these.... probably will still use them on my drop C guitars.

Help - USA Hardtail Professional build specs - 3-piece body?
by Mizithra on Fri Apr 22, 2005 12:25 pm
Hi,
I've got a chance to pick up a Hardtail Professional for a good price. I love the concept - all-mahogany, basic tone machine. My kind of guitar.
Anyway, this one has a 3-piece body. Is this normal? It seems like every one I've seen has been a two-piece center-joined body. The ones on this site has gorgeous one-piece bodies, but I understand I can't reasonably expect to find one like that.
It just seems odd to use a 3-piece body on a guitar coming out of the Dean USA shop. I wanted to see if this is normal, and consistent with what you have seen.
Thanks!
This will be kind corny to the youngsters... I found it quite a nostalgia trip...

Stocks held to modest losses for most of the session, until The Wall Street Journal reported that the United States believed North Korea was preparing for a nuclear weapons test. At that point, the major indexes plunged and investors cashed out despite the previous session's gains, which were the best in two years.

tech 21 or fender blues junior...
by l_train on Fri Apr 22, 2005 10:29 pm
im trying to decide on an amp here, either a tech 21 trademark 30, or a fender blues junior... i want something farily small, and not over 350-400 bucks. i would perfer something with tubes, a great clean sound, and fairly versitile. was even thinking about a beringer vamp pro, just cause its cheap, and has alot of amp models... what you folks think of these 3? thankx ^^
or how bout a line 6 spider II amp?
question about the new dimes
how many of each will be made? how many years will they be made?
I went to Robert Plant and the strange sensation
by Darri on Fri Apr 22, 2005 11:47 pm
It was f#ckin insane it was one of the best concert I have seen. He came to my country back in 1970 (I wasn't even born then) now 35 years later he came back and he can sing just as good when he was in Led Zeppelin. He played some led Zeppelin song Black Dog and Heartbraker he changed them a litttle but when they played Whole Lotta Love the crowd went Insane. the song that he wrote with the strange sansation were very good and his new stuff is great. the one song that they didn't play and should have played was Immigrant song beacuse the lyrics are written about Iceland. He still can play one hell of a show.

eq question
by fnoogie on Sat Apr 23, 2005 10:16 am
ok.. here goes....
i'm looking to tweak my sound and find my own tone..
first, a little backround,
here's my current situation:
amp=marshall g30R (a gift... don't like it... saving for a xxx 2x12)
fx from the guitar to the amp=danelectro fish and chips 7 band eq (newest addition), danelectro milkshake chorus, danelectro hash browns flanger, dunlop db01 crybaby, boss mt-2 metal zone, mxr smart gate (only engaged when the mt-2 is running).
now here's the issue. I like to play mostly metal. I purchased my first eq (see above) to "compliment" the mt-2. If I set it up scooped, the lows are overbearing, even at low levels. It sounds like the speaker is blown. I've tried playing with the level to no resolve. I've also moved it around in the loop. Can any of you gear junkies out there help????¿¿?¡¡!!!
please remember that I am a FNG around here.. so use small words

Hey Guys,

P90 Z....What's the deal?
I didn't just want to bump the old thread. I really need to know what's going on with this. I'm going on a 6 month to god-knows-how-long deployment in a couple weeks, and I may be really hard to get in contact with. What's the deal here?
Since the inception of the P90 Z idea I've bought 2 guitars and have gotten on the list for a DFH, DOA V, and DOA Z bass. Somebody let me know what the plan is soon, or I'm going to have to take myself off the list. I'm patient, but patience only goes so far under circumstances like this.
$320 with hard shell case off ebay. I'd say a pretty decent deal. Wouldn't you?
where can i get a case for my z????
by sbill on Sun Apr 24, 2005 3:26 pm
got my z late last year and ordered a case for it through my local dealer but its been on back order ever scince. talked to him yestersay and still on back order till may somthing. anyway i read that a coffin case may work, i dont know, the z is pretty big and all, i cant see it fitting in a coffin case. id rather have a actual dean case but at this point anything that will work is better than the cardboard box that its living in now. any suggestions??my z is homeless living in a box!
I've been searching for a white Z, ML, or V for some time now. I know they're out there, but I searched on eBay and there were some listing saying they were preorders for 2005. I know white was a discontinued color, but are they coming back?
Then I read this http://www.deanguitars.com/79.php at the bottom is lists white as a color, maybe this is due to lack of update? Fill me in.
Black Label Society review mentions Washburn? wrong?
An article covering a Dallas concert by Black Label Society said this:
"Throughout their friendship, Dimebag and Mr. Wylde often exchanged guitars; for that song and another Friday, Mr. Wylde played a custom Washburn that Dimebag had commissioned for him -- but was unable to deliver just before his death."
I am sure it must have been the Razorback that Dean made. The timing and everything...wouldn't have been Washburn. Or am I just losing it..?
Only shows a photo of Wylde with Rhoads model guitar. Staff writers e-mail is mdaniel@dallasnews.com

Fishing Trip
by Ranma on Mon Apr 25, 2005 3:26 am
Well I got fed up with all the everyday and decided to go fishing today. A friend and I went to Lake Marie with the intent of catching a "legal" Muskelunge. To fill you in a keeper size muskelunge in Lake Marie, IL has an overall length of 48". Well it was windy and cold but after many hours of trolling and waiting I caught a very large Pike. That thing had teeth like a baracuda and tore up my friends fishing net
A picture of the fish with my fishing buddy to follow.
Overall Length of caught Pike: 34-36"
Amount of butter necessary to pan fry it, 1 stick
Getting the hook out of its mouth without the fish biting your hand off: priceless.
I have not played my guitar(besides this oldschool acoustic where the neck needs reglued and the strings at some points are an inch of the fretboard) in a week. I only have one guitar(2 counting that) and I live in 2 houses my guitar is at my dads house and i have been at my moms house. hopefully i reunite with it tomorrow.

Rufus turns 20
by rufus on Mon Apr 25, 2005 3:25 pm
It being April 25, I am no longer a teenager. Its kind of hard to celebrate appropriately on a monday , but I'll try. I picked up a Playmate acoustic electric bass with the money my parents gave me. I'm really impressed with the sound and build quality. Active electronics would have been nice, but I haven't even had a chance to plug it in yet anyway. I'm also in need of some flatwound strings.
Toilet Seat
It isn't widely known, but the first toilet seat was invented by a Polish scientist in the 18th century. The invention was later modified by a Jewish inventor who put a hole in the seat.
Ten Commandments
The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments in a Courthouse! You cannot post "Thou Shalt Not Steal," "Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery" and "Thou Shall Not Lie" in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians! It creates a hostile work environment.
Zero Gravity
When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ball-point pens would not work in zero gravity. To combat this problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 billion developing a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside-down, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to over 300 C. The Russians used a pencil. Your taxes are due again--enjoy paying them.
Government Emblem
The government today announced that it is changing its emblem from an Eagle to a condom because it more accurately reflects the government's political stance. A condom stands up to inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of weenies and gives you a sense of security while you're actually being screwed. Damm, it just doesn't get more accurate than that.
Our Constitution
"They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq. Why don't we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it's worked for over 200 years and hell, we're not using it anymore."

Just thinking about changing the pups in my Kerry King BC Rich from EMG 81's to maybe a Dimebucker or Bill Lawrence L500XL. I know, its not a Dean but its about the pickups. I had a Bill Lawrence in another guitar and it sounded awesome, I like the EMGs but it seems that the harmonics are not as good as the BL. Definately hot but I wonder if the BL would be better, Any advice on what pots I have to use for the BL or Dimebucker? Also I know that the BL sounds better with mohogany, I think mine is maple.

funny moment at work, read on
hi all
well at he moment the place I work at has gone into administration
so basically we are looking to move to new premises
so this morning we had a meeting with EURO TELL the telephone company
so there was me(production manager)
the director.the technical manger and the sales manager from euro tell
so we are discussing all the possible ways of installing a new system in our new building
we get onto the basics of ISDN lines and ANALOGUE broadband
splitting lines etc
so the director decides to use a white board to put down the numbers and the requirements
so hes there writing on the board and he does this
1 0161 ====== ISDN line
2 0161 === ect ANAL Broadband
well it took me about 2 secs to realise what he had written(u can guess what happened then)
the old school thing when u are not supposed to laugh but I couldn't help it
at this point the technical manager has realised what he had done and soon we were giggling away trying not to spoil the waffle coming from the director
eventually I had to leave the room making an production excuse
so I leave the room and head towards the reception laughing my gazongas off
then I bump into the other director (who happens to be the directors son)
I tell him what his dad has put on the board and when we go up look at it
well that was a bad idea we sit back down in the meeting and he spots the error
so he starts giggling and his dad is looking at him in bemusement the sales rep is totally unaware and at this point im biting on a pen trying not to laugh
I have never felt so childish since I was at school giggling when u are not meant to
but it made the morning fly by under the current circumstances
I thought I would share my amusement with you all
anyone else had this happen to them
Oldie
anybody know what series it is.I thought it was a series 2 but the tuners r a little farther fron the logo than the series 2???
For those of you that use software reverb
Voxengo's new 'Pristine Space Light' is going now for only $35.95 for the next few weeks only.
The 'Light' in the title means that this version is stereo, not 8-channel like the full version. Stereo is great for me, so I don't consider this a problem at all. In fact, if I owned the full version I don't think I'd ever use the multi-channel feature anyway.
'Pristine Space Light' is a convolution reverb. For those unfamilar with the term, they derive the sound from recordings of actual rooms.
Used properly (i.e. much drier then a normal 'verb) they sound FANTASTIC! Much, much better then your basic software reverb.
I'm not afflicated with Voxengo in any manner, this is just a killer deal that I'm reporting!

Hey guys, I am requesting knowledge from the "older/more learned" forumites out there that have had their fare share of relationship experiences both good and bad. There's a girl that for the better part of a year has been my friend. Over the months I seemed to have developed a slight crush on her but it was never strong enough for me to act on. Well, she recently aquired a boyfriend and my intial reaction was "good for her". But after a few days I have found myself feeling a sense of loss because she's no longer single. Am I simply overreacting to this guys or what? Relationships aren't exactly my strongpoints so I'd figure I ask for some advice from the more knowledgeable ones among us on the boards. Any help guys?

Debris Inc and El Tib's 1st live performance in 22 years
by ML Tib on Tue Apr 26, 2005 7:42 pm
Well last night I hooked up with my old labelmates from SST (St Vitus) and Dave Chandler's new band Debris Inc. There were suppose to be 3 bands, but only 2 showed up. Debris Inc and a Sabbath Tribute band named Rat Salad. Rat Slad had their s#%t down. Sounded EXACTLY like 1970 Black Sabbath. They even had a guy come out with a mouth harp to perorm "The Wizard." all in all, probably the best Sab Tribute band I've seen, since Slack Babbath.
Then Debris Inc came on. This band features Ron Holzen formerly from Trouble, and Dave from St Vitus. They played mostly punk songs with a couple of old Vitus songs thrown in. Real good stuff. For their last song, Dave had me strap on one of his SG's and play Fear's "I Love living in the City." Personally, I think I choked because they asked me before the show to do the encore with them, and I didn't even know this song, so I received a crash course. I wish I would have known, then I could have brought my ML...
Here are some pics from the show.

Anybody try one these babies out yet? I'm looking for a new wah.
I prefer Morleys because it is switchless but would consider something else if it sounded good enough. I already have a DB-01 but it just doesn't have enough range for me. I just bought that because Dime used it and I'm kind of a sucker for signature stuff especially when one of my favorite guitarist used it.

well, inspired by jeepster's amazing paint job on his ML, I decided to take my old, cheap Baby ML and give it a shot. Keep in mind that this was done with car model paint . It's not very good, but i did it, so I'm proud. Still got to smooth it out and all that stuff. Well, here it is

Bypass Tone control
by Stone on Wed Apr 27, 2005 5:45 pm
I want to bypass the tone control completely on my MIK EVO. It's currently loaded with a Dimarzio Tone Zone (bridge) and Air Zone (neck). I don't want to do anything fancy with it (coil splitting, phasing, etc). Just need to connect the 2 pickups to the volume pot and bypass the second pot altogether (right now I'm using the second pot as a volume for the neck pickup, but I don't like that arrangement).
Anyone got a schematic that will work for this?

High end bolt-on Dean?????
I was just talking to a good friend of mine. He's an incredible guitarist and one of those musicians that feel that a bolt-on neck sounds far superior to a set-neck or neck-through. He plays an old Strat. I don't agree with his bolt-on opinion, but thats what he thinks.
He asked me if all Dean bolt-ons were thier lower end lines. I immediatley answered 'Yes', but then I thought that maybe I could be wrong.
Has Dean ever done a high-end model (comparable to today's Time Capsules) that is a bolt-on????

Sounds like a funny question, but i just want to make sure on the mechanical differences between the two technologies. Any information regarding proper operation and care would be appreciated. Thanks. Oh and sorry for the really long post
pickups and amps and guitars oh my
OK, so I just got an ML-X and I love it. I also just got a Marshall MG100 1/2 stack. I'm running through an Ibanez smashbox. My question here is what pickups should I consider throwing into the guitar. Right now it has Gibson pickups in it but the sound is coming out a little bit weak to me. My other 3 guitars sound really really full with the setup but the Dean is less full than them. So yeah. I was thinking of trying to get ahold of a Duncan Design as that's what my Jackson King V has in it and I love how that sounds. Thanks in advance

ALSO as an add on question. What are the main differences on an ML and an ML-X? Is the X just a more affordable version?

So i finally made a decision and went with a Peavey XXX 60 watt 1X12 combo. For all of you considering a purchase of this amp here's what I found.
1) The Peavey Sheffiled speaker was harsh to my ears. So.......out with the Sheffield, and in with a Celestion 70M.
2) After the speaker switch I AB'd this combo to my Triple XXX Head and Genz Benz cab. Tonally they are almost identical, with the Head and cab having substantially more Balls (imagine that!).
3) Couldn't deal with the lack of balls, so I closed up the back of the combo with plywood and installed a brushless fan from Radio Shack to keep the internals cool. OMG!!! What a huge difference this made.
4) I'm now using this amp on at least 50% of our gigs. Still doesn't quite have the balls the XXX head has......but it's damn close.
All in all, it's a nice little amp. Like I said, tonally it's almost identical to the XXX (the crowd would never hear the difference). Because it's only 60 watts the power tubes are saturating more, which allows me to turn the preamp down a bit more than I normally would on the XXX head.
