Reunion gig of my band
by ML Tib on Sun May 01, 2005 6:27 pm
I was just sent an email from a fan with one of the pics from last night's show in Hawthorne CA (my hometown). We played to a packed house. No slam dancing but the crowd loved us. We had a few burps, but all in all in the fans love seeing Overkill L.A. again. We were performing under "SST OVERKILL", so there would be no legalities from the NY Over Kill.
This is only one of the many pictures taken. Damn I look like a escaped mental patient here!

Jeff our bassist who did the guitar work on our first EP

Anyone here ever use a Carl Martin Combinator 2..? (Or even the original Combinator for that matter.
It looks like it might be just the ticket and a bit less than some of the custom switchers I've looked at...but it's still a bit pricey...so I wanted to "run it up the flagpole" so to speak...
Cheers

Opinions about ML NOIR XT
Hail from Portugal to all metal guitar players out there!
I play mostly metal and clean stuff with delay effects and I want to buy a new guitar with a bit more power/aggressiveness (I currently own a HAMER with EMG’s 81/85).
As I am only able to spend around $500 ($600 max.) and also because I am a huge Dimebag and ML-shape fan, I thought of the DEAN ML Noir XT, and then switch the pickups from the Hamer to the Dean and vice-versa.
What can you tell me about this axe? Likes, dislikes, quality, sound… etc.
Are there other models you recommend in this price range?
Thanks!

Why We Love Children
1. A kindergarten pupil told his teacher he'd found a cat, but it was
dead.
"How do you know that the cat was dead?" she asked her pupil.
"Because I pissed in its ear and it didn't move," answered the child
innocently.
You did WHAT ? ! ?" the teacher exclaimed in surprise.
"You know,"explained the boy, "I leaned over and went 'Pssst!' and it
didn't move."
2. A small boy is sent to bed by his father.
Five minutes later...."Da-ad...."
"What?"
"I'm thirsty. Can you bring drink of water?"
"No, You had your chance. Lights out."
Five minutes later: "Da-aaaad....."
"WHAT?"
"I'm THIRSTY. Can I have a drink of water??"
I told you NO! If you ask again, I'll have to spank you!!"
Five minutes later......"Daaaa-aaaad....."
"WHAT!"
"When you come in to spank me, can you bring a drink of water?"
3. An exasperated mother, whose son was always getting into mischief,
finally asked him "How do you expect to get into Heaven?"
The boy thought it over and said,
"Well, I'll run in and out and in and out and keep slamming the door
until St. Peter says, 'For Heaven's sake, Dylan, come in or stay out!'"
4. One summer evening during a violent thunderstorm
a mother was tucking her son into bed.
She was about to turn off the light when he asked with a tremor in his
voice, "Mommy, will you sleep with me tonight?"
The mother smiled and gave him a reassuring hug.
"I can't dear," she said. "I have to sleep in Daddy's room"
A long silence was broken at last by his shaky little voice:
"The big sissy"
5. It was that time, during the Sunday morning service, for the
children's
sermon. All the children were invited to come forward.
One little girl was wearing a particularly pretty dress and,
as she sat down, the pastor leaned over and said,
"That is a very pretty dress. Is it your Easter Dress?"
The little girl replied, directly into the pastor's clip-on microphone,
"Yes, and my Mom says it's a bitch to iron."
6 When I was six months pregnant with my third child, my three year old
came into the room when I was just getting ready to get into
the shower. She said, "Mommy, you are getting fat!"
I replied, "Yes, honey, remember Mommy has a baby growing in her
tummy."
"I know," she replied, but what's growing in your butt?"
7 A little boy was doing his math homework. He said to himself,
"Two plus five, that son of a bitch is seven.
Three plus six, that son of a bitch is nine...."
His mother heard what he was saying and gasped, "What are you doing?"
The little boy answered, "I'm doing my math homework, Mom."
"And this is how your teacher taught you to do it?" the mother asked.
"Yes," he answered.
Infuriated, the mother asked the teacher the next day, "What are you
teaching my son in math?"
The teacher replied, "Right now, we are learning addition."
The mother asked, "And are you teaching them to say two plus two, that
son of a bitch is four?"
After the teacher stopped laughing, she answered, "What I taught them
was, two plus two, THE SUM OF WHICH, is four."
8. One day the first grade teacher was reading the story of Chicken
Little
to her class. She came to the part of the story where Chicken Little
tried to warn the farmer. She read, ".... and so Chicken
Little went up to the farmer and said, "The sky is falling, the sky is
falling!"
The teacher paused then asked the class,
"And what do you think that farmer said?"
One little girl raised her hand and said,
"I think he said: 'Holy s#%t! A talking chicken!'"
The teacher was unable to teach for the next 10 minutes.
9. A certain little girl, when asked her name, would reply,
"I'm Mr. Sugarbrown's daughter."
Her mother told her this was wrong, she must say, "I'm Jane
Sugarbrown."
The Vicar spoke to her in Sunday School, and said,
"Aren't you Mr. Sugarbrown's daughter?"
She replied, "I thought I was, but mother says I'm not."
10 A little girl asked her mother, "Can I go outside and play with the
boys?"
Her mother replied, "No, you can't play with the boys, they're too
rough."
The little girl thought about it for a few moments and asked,
"If I can find a smooth one, can I play with him?"
11. A little girl goes to the barber shop with her father.
She stands next to the barber chair, while her dad gets his hair cut,
eating a snack cake The barber says to her, "Sweetheart, you're gonna
get hair on your Twinkie."
She says, "Yes, I know, and I'm gonna get boobs too."
Now keep that smile on your face and pass it on to someone else!!

me and my friend were in this local guitar store and we were shredding it up like crazy on this half stack. my friend was using an ML that they had in there and when we were done, like 3 other people went and picked it up and played it. i just thought that was kind of cool. i didn't know there was a big interest in deans in my town, i am just about the only one in it that i know of that owns one.
art sgx 2000 and rocktron hush II cx
ok i have a art sgx 2000 with the x-15 footswitch you can practically get any sound you want outta it just about, i just wanted to know if anyone has one and what are some good settings for it? and whats your input on this unit.
also im currently in the market for a rocktron hush II cx,
what i wanted to know if anyone owns one and what is your input on this system. i have never used a hush unit before and mainly wanted to add it to my rack system and try some stuff with it with the gate opened and closed. (note my art sgx 2000 has a built in hush system but i still want the rocktron unit.
one more thing what kinda thing can i buy that sorta shows level input across with lights? sorta like a tape deck has.
is that like a real time Analyzer or what?
p.s. what can i purchase a upgrade chip to upgrade the art 2000 to the 2000 express.
thanks in advance

Got my Alice Cooper tickets!
by matthew on Wed May 04, 2005 10:46 am
Man, they cost me a packet. The on-line booking site I went through said they'd be somewhere in the first 8 rows. They're here, and they're row BB. I guess that's the second row. Woohoo, we're in the splatter zone!
Anyway, my wife and I are really excited. Alice is one of the rockers we grew up with. We've never had the chance to see him live before this. He plays here in Brisbane on June 28. Apparently this is his first tour playing smaller venues. Has anyone been to see his current show? Was it everything I'm hoping it will be?
Seriously, I saw him interviewed on some music show a while back. The guy is totally cool and far more together than I imagined.
Saying the WRONG Thing
This married couple was sitting in a fine restaurant when the wife looks over at a nearby table and sees a man in a drunken stupor.
The husband asks "I notice you've been watching that man for some time now. Do you know him?"
"Yes" she replies, "He's my ex-husband, and has been drinking like that since I left him seven years ago."
"That's remarkable" the husband replies, "I wouldn't think anybody could celebrate that long."
Services will be held at 2:30pm Saturday at Forever Green Mortuary.

parametric EQ's?
by cyd666 on Wed May 04, 2005 6:58 pm
Hey,
I have read a lot of stuff about Dime using a parametric EQ in his rig. Well i have a couple of questions. 1. does it matter which one you buy? I have seen those furman ones go for big bucks and I dont have that kind of cash right now. 2. Where do you put it in the line of effects? I am currently using a digitech GNX2 into a randall RH200. I have been looking at a few berringer models of EQs but didnt want to waste my money if its not going to do the same thing. Thanks.

From Rock-n-Roll Confidential News

So-called “Guitar legend” Esteban was stripped of his legendary status this week when it was discovered that he is an entirely fictional character created specifically to sell pressboard guitars in infomercials.
Allan Holdsworth, guitar legend and president of “Real Guitar Legends For Truth” released a statement on Monday calling for the immediate cessation of all applications of the appellation “Guitar legend” to the television character known as “Esteban”. According to the statement, “Esteban is a fictional character created by L.A. session guitarist Dan Fernaueu for the express purpose of marketing a cheap, poorly constructed guitar-like instrument on the Home Shopping Channel.”
The scandal intensified when the Recording Academy revealed that claims that “Esteban” had won “several Grammys” were false.
These charges come on the heels of last month’s statement from the Musical Instrument Manufacturers Association that the “Esteban” guitar could not, in fact, be classified as an actual guitar due to the fact that it is constructed out of reclaimed materials such as discarded telephone directories and medical waste. The MIMA demanded that the instrument be classified as a toy. |

WOW _ What a couple of weeks!!!
Some of you will remember Chuck writing about collecting guitars and the different phases. Well, I reached my "time to thin it all out" phase and put some stuff on the auction block. WOW - was I suprised at the results. I sold:
1980 Vintage Caddy
25th Caddy
DOA Caddy
DOA V Bass
79 V
Butt Guitar
And even the Redwood Hardtail I just got!!!
Best part - I came out WAY ahead! WOW!!! I'm pumped.
Now I'm down to the guitars I love. My first Hardtail - which plays and sounds better than anything I've ever owned electric wise....the DOA V which will always stay with me due to sentimental reasons and my most prized guitar - my Taylor acoustic.
My custom ML....well, it just never worked out I guess, so I've moved on from that saga!!!
Time to reinvest...........

whats up with these? which one came out first?
Hi, since most of you probably own guitars with floyd roses, I was wondering how far back they go. The only reason I want a guitar that has one is to do those awesome squeals that dimebag did and other cool noises. I was trying some out and noticed that some didnt go back into the cavity as much as others. Is it just the way that it is set up or do different models make the difference (Licensed, Original). Also if you pull the bar back too far, would any of your strings snap? thanks.

FRom Blabbermouth.net:
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's show at the House of Blues in West Holywood, California Thursday night (May 5) ended early after the group's mainman, Zakk Wylde, reportedly snapped at one of his roadies and hinted from the stage that he had gotten into a fight with his wife prior to the concert. The following report was submitted to BLABBERMOUTH.NET by a fan, Jimmy Pop, who attended the gig:
"BLACK LABEL SOCIETY played the Hollywood House Of Blues last night and from the start of the show the band seemed off and Zakk didn't seem into, but I figured it was no big deal. When he finally talked to the crowd before 'In The River' and was going to talk about his Dimebag guitar, he mentioned to the crowd that just before the show he got into a physical fight with his wife and she was throwing punches at him. Then he talked about Dimebag and went into the song and didn't mention anything else about his fight with his wife. He soloed during the song for what seemed like over 10 minutes. Really, really long and self-indulgent. At just under 60 minutes, Zakk took off his Bullseye guitar from center stage after they played 'Suicide Messiah' and threw it at the monitor board/monitor man and started Flappyfleep about the monitors being @#%$@!!& up and that he'd 'lay the hand of God down on somebody in a New York minute' if it wasn't fixed. Then he told the soundman that he couldn't hear s#%t all night and he just wanted to go home to his wife and kids and to get it all over with. He then refused to take another guitar from his tech and walked back and forth onstage as the band started jamming. He looked like he was going to start fighting people. He kneeled down on the side of the stage for a while, and then walked off. The band was still playing during this time and he finally came back on. He strapped on his orange Buzzsaw guitar, but then threw his beer cup at somebody behind the monitors. It looked like he threw it at a woman but I could be wrong.
"Anyway, he then turned around, took off his guitar, and threw it deep into the crowd and walked off. The drummer then kicked over his drums and the show was over. The whole tantrum thing lasted about 5 minutes and the band barely played 60 minutes.
"On the way out, I heard some roadies tell the doormen to make sure the guitar doesn't leave the building, and somebody else also said Zakk was headed to rehab tomorrow. This might also have to do with the story you put up a few days ago about Zakk destroying a bar with a baseball bat. He definitely has some anger-management issues and seemed a bit drunk onstage tonight. I've seen BLS many times before and tonight was the worst, and quite a letdown."
As previously reported, Wylde was detained by police on April 28 in Boise, Idaho after he allegedly caused "considerable damage" with a baseball bat to the interior of The Big Easy club (where BLACK LABEL SOCIETY was to perform that night). Police said the case was dropped because no one wanted to press charges. Big Easy co-owner Paul Thornton said the show was called off "due to illness." Wylde's representatives were unavailable for comment.

DYNAMO EDIT 08-05-05 ANTHRAX and DYNAMO pics added!
Well just woke up! pff today to the Dynamo fest I was in bed 5:30 last night slept 3 hours and now off to the Dynamo! Yesterday was the warming up party in the Effenaar club in Eindhoven!
Geez kickass, first of all there was stormrider a metal cover band but not JUST a metal coverband it's Marcel Coenen's band I dunno if you ever heard of him but he is one of Holland's best guitarists, he is in the same league as a Michael Angelo! they were awsome, playing everything from simple songs like ACCEPT or PRIEST to very very difficult ones from TOXIK (Never heard any band cover those guys!!!) and DEATH.
Then the one off reunion of US metal gods LAAZ ROCKIT does anyone here remember them?? "city's gonna burn, "know your enemy", "annihilation principle" do any of thse albums ring a bell?? anyway KILLER to be finally able to see those guys live in the original line up!
The club was sold out weeks in advance it was so freaking crowded it wasn;t even funny, I didn;t expect much from LAAZ but they went down stormy!
Only played classics like "fire in the hole", "prelude", "euroshima", "city's gonna burn", "forced to fight"
Here's Michael Coons wearing a wig HAHAHAHHA!
Willy Lange of Dutch decent he even knew a few Dutch words "GODVERDOMME!!!"
Phil Kettner, does anyone recognize him??
Aaron Jellum, geez he has changed!
Then TESTAMENT was on, well I must say this was the bnest TESTAMENT gig I ever saw, but one thing worried me....where are Eric's DEANs?? he only played a "J and D" LP on stage...all past times he excluseively played DEANs on stage!
This also as the original line up with Greg Christian, Louie Clemente and Eric Scolnick!
We met Chuck after the show! he told us there was no word on the release of the new TESTAMENT disc yet and there was a possibility they were gonna record it in the original line up!
I read a statement recently stating that nostalgia was bad, lemme tell it shure didn't feel bad yesterday...even better this is the way metal should be!
Now off to Dynamo with LAAZ ROCKIT, OBITUARY, TESTAMENT and the original ANTHRAX appearing!
And i'm stuck at work again...I just wanted to start yet another uselss i'm stuck at work on saturday so i'm going to bitch to all you guys thread.
I was looking at lyrics for Cthulhu Dawn by Cradle of Filth because you cant understand a word they say. so i looked it up and it was not my usuall lyrics website but i trusted it. i closed out and then i got alot of popups, a little dog icon thingy came on my screen where the time and intnet connection status thing is and then i got a virus alert. me never having problems with viruses instantly #$%@ the computer down. when i turn it back on next time what should i do. im lucky i have a second computer so i can ask you guys.

Czech Flying V
by Shaitan on Sat May 07, 2005 11:35 pm
Hyas all. I am new here, and wonder what your thoughts might be on the Czech Flying V Deans. I went to a local store today, and saw this Dean V on the wall. All natural wood. The sticker on the back of the headstock says Made in the Czech Republic. Something like that.
The build quality is NICE. But it needs a setup. As well there is the obligatory finish crack where the neck joins the body. No biggy, as both my Gibson Explorers did that.
The price on the tag said 1200 Canadian. About 1000 U.S. funds. I know the Store owner and can prolly talk him down to 1 grand Canadian. Does this seem like a decent price for the guitar? Thx for any input.

Dean stickers on ebay...
by Faust on Sun May 08, 2005 5:00 am
Well I took one for the team. Saw it... ordered it to see if it was any good and it is a cheap homemade sticker. Looks like someone took a Dean wings logo and blew it up larger without cleaning up the edges. It would have been OK if it were free... but they are not worth the money.
It might look OK on my toolbox... maybe.
So when can we expect to see some official ones of good quality?

I need some dean parts pickup rings and knobs black ones anybody got the number to dean???
I just got done playing Cleveland tonight. It was my first gig with the Cadillac.
I can't even describe how it felt. It was incredible.
I was using backline supplied at the gig. It was a Marshall full stack. I cranked it up fairly loud. Every time I hit a note the hall filled with the sound. And the Caddy body resonated the note. It's hard to describe, but it's almost like I could feel the tonality. What a feeling! It's like the guitar was alive.
After this gig, I know that this is the guitar I was meant to play.

what's the fret size on Vendettas?
by stoned on Sun May 08, 2005 9:58 am
I'm thinking of getting a transblue Vendetta 4.0, but i prefer jumbo frets and i wonder if it has them?
I know it's wrong and I apologise in advance for posting this up on the Dean forum, but I've missed my old Les Paul like hell. So, I've got myself this baby. It's an LP Classic in Vintage Honeyburst, and it screams. The Gibson 500T in the bridge is amazing.
I know I'll get slated, and I know I could have bought 2 Caddys for the price of this, but I do like it.
My Gordon Smith and my mini Marshall Valvestate stack has to go to pay for it, maybe even my Dean . That's the agreement I had to reach in order to purchase it, ah married bliss
I have however over-priced the V, so hopefully no-one will be interested and my plan to hold on to it will come through. Fingers crossed.
It does look great next to the Select V though.
Location of Dean Custom Shop
I was reading at another forum, and it said that US Dean Custom Shop guitars were built overseas then shipped here to be painted. I find it a little hard to believe, but at the same time knowing big business I wouldn't be surprised. I figure yall would probably know if this is the truth, or, hopefully, just a rumor.
DOAGuitarmageddon results are in........
I'd like to thank Guest, DizzyDean, and DocOzz for judging this monumental event. They had literally minutes upon minuets of music to listen to in order to render their decisions with 3 members contributing works. All 3 submissions were from the Jam catagory and given a score of 0 - 10
With 0 being "I've heard guitarists suck before but they were the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever did suck" to 10 being the highest realm of guitar playing one could hope to reach. There were only a couple of points difference from the top person to the bottom.
The judges has spoken (maybe not spoken, but definitely typed)
The judges have typed! (and private messaged and emailed......)
Drum roll please.....
No reallly, start a drum roll on your desk
Come on, you can do better than that...........
Ok, much better.
Gold - Kevpol
Silver - Al_Page
Bronze - Microtonal
Thank you again for all that participated and as per the awards listed in the thread.
Hey Kevpol - ATTABOY!
Well, my 'gear advisor' is MIA so I have came here to ask for some advice/stuff to look up.
I'm prioritizing what I'm going to buy now that I actually scored a job. I'm going to buy a temporary effects pedal (Digitech RP200) for recording purposes, then I'm going to get a 6505 combo, if I like it, and if I don't it's the 6505+ head. So the RP-200 will be used for the new amp temporarily. But I want a multieffects unit that is preferably rack, unless you have an awesome floor unit for me to look at. I would like for there to be a footswitch available for it, too.
I'm bored and need stuff to look at, so help me out.

Musician/Bassist Needed Fast!
"Dayz Born", an original band, but we have a twist, we do covers but we arrange them and rock them to our style and sound, an original band with awesome covers. We are in the process of writing original material, and as time goes on, dropping covers when originals and following increase.
We want a person, who is open. We are very flexible and open to ALL ideas, and want the right person to share it. The sound is Hard, Heavy, Popular Progressive Rock/Metal, and very original.
Email and I will explain more. We have a full rehearsal place! Go to my website to see who I am, and news on the band "Dayz Born" We need you!
If you live in the north/central New Jersey, or NYC, email me ASAP! It wont be a waste of your time, I promise!
Wheres all the clever people??? are there any???
No one can tell me how to wire my motherbucker - i have the one with 2 4conductor leads and i want to know how to wire it standard so i need no extra switches or push pulls - so it works the same way as standard pickup with 3way selector

are you a lady?.... cos there aint enough ladies that play guitar what guitars dyou have? -J
I thought I'd mention this since this may be the last time any of us have a chance to listen to one of the very founders of guitar rock.
I'm sure many of the younger members have never heard of him and probably most of the older ones don't know of him either. Trust me, you've heard his music many times. Do a search on his name and check out some of his music...or just put Pulp Fiction in the player and listen. For the AZ guys, he'll be at the Rhythm Room this month. I know that *I'll* be there.

Need help w/Delay setting
Hello peeps!
Looking for any advice to put me in the right direction for setting the proper delay for the Green Day song "Boulevard of Broken Dreams". Its got a REALLY choppy and REALLY fuzzy thing going on that, if I can't get it pretty dang close, I probably won't even mess with it. I've (recently) got a Boss DD-20, if that helps with your thoughts.
Thanks in advance to everyone!

Laney VH100R
by Faust on Tue May 10, 2005 9:03 am
This amp kicks butt! I can get really nice clean jazz tones to mild sparkly crunch to JCM-800 to insane gain! It has two channels with switchable gain stages... so it's like having a four channel amp. Unlike my Soldano Decatone (sold it) the "middle" channel selections are very useful and sound great! I can get AC/DC tone to really distorted ZZTop with no problem at all... hit the switch and go to the neck pickup and play a really nice warm jazz tone. With the settings in the picture and my Korina Z, it sounds like Pepper Keenan's tone on the Down albums. Laney is definitely one of the most underrated amps on the market. This thing is a keeper!
I just came across what according the the seller is a Dean ML Special Select. It is NOS, as in mint, never-played, and is in the original hard case. I have seen the guitar and it is incredible looking - Brazillia Burst flame top with matching headstock, triple cream binding, pearl block inlays - just gorgeous!
Problem is that I have no idea what it is worth and he wants me to make him an offer. It is a small local dealer in my area. Can anybody tell me anything about this axe like how "special" it really is and what it might be worth?
Thanks -Frank
Roland Micro cube incoming...
Just bought one of these second hand, haven't got it yet, should arrive tomorrow. Looking forward to it.
Heard alot of good things about them.
Just thought I'd share.
Ally.
This might sound stoopid but I'll ask anyway.
Does anyone else find that when the action is pretty low on your guitar and you bend a string, say the 'b' string, that your fingers tend to come up over the top of the 'g' string?
I think I must have always had my action set very slightly on the high side as I always feel the need to really get 'under' the string above the one I'm bending.
Never been much of a super fast shredder type, so never really required extra low action.
Does this sound familiar to anyone, or am I some kind of freak??
Ally.

Whoever recommended the Strobostomp here
Whoever recommended the Strobostomp here should be knighted, made a saint or given the congressional medal of honor.
Never has a $189 piece of gear relieved so much stress in my life.
I was using a small Boss tuner for years. Worked great at home, worked sometimes on the road. The last gig I had played (prior to last weekend) it quit working on stage. But it worked when I got home so I forgot about it.
I get onstage in Cleveland on Saturday. The instant the lights go on and the p.a. is running loud, the Boss tuner stops working. The display just blinks at me and flashes (brand new battery too).
I have to tune by ear in front of 750 people. URGHH!!!!! And we have 4 different tunings in out set. URGHHH AGAIN!!!!!
So yesterday I visit some local music stores and ask about tuners. I want something with a big LED display, mute switch and road worthy construction. Every store shows me something that looks like a distant cousin to my BOSS.
Then I remember the thread here. I found it, got the name and searched the net. I picked one up today. This tuner is EXACTLY what I need.
I am very happy!!!

How to blackify my '79 V?????
I'd like to make my '79 V completely black (other then the binding).
But I have a few questions -
Is all the hardware available in black?
How much of the hardware is generic and how much is Dean specific? Basically what should I get from Dean and what should I get elsewhere?
Does anyone make black metal pickup rings (I think thats what it's called, the square thing the pickup sits in)?
Is this list missing anything - tuners, bridge, tailpiece, knobs, input jack, pickups, pickup rings?
Thanks

DOAGuitarmageddon Entry Tracks Posted
by kevphol on Wed May 11, 2005 7:11 pm
Steve (Transblue) didn't have a way to host these so he sent them to me to put up.
So in the immortal words of Bob (microtonal), "Let the roast begin", and Ally (Al Page), Let the "international ridicule" begin! Props to these guys for some cool tracks.
microtonal - http://home.comcast.net/~kevphol/microtonal_modernblues.mp3
Al Page - http://home.comcast.net/~kevphol/Al_Page_jam.mp3
kevphol - http://home.comcast.net/~kevphol/kevphol_jazzjam.mp3
Also, if they would like to respond, it would be cool to find out what equipment was used for the tracks. For my track, I was playing my Dean Sarasota (with P-90s ) into a Johnson Amplification Marquis JM60, with a direct line out into my Audigy Platinum soundcard. (Didn't realize I recorded in only the left channel! )
Long shot...Any uk North West Metal Guitarists here?
Bit of a situation here...Last year my band saw 3 members leave (Lead Guitar, Bass and Vocals). We managed to replace the singer, but then decided to try and find a drummer (I was going to switch to lead guitar). And thats where we left it - No drummers were to be found, so I decided to go back on the drums and therefore seek a lead guitarist (And bassist, but that is not important right now!). My arse has been kicked into motion again because we have been offered a slot at a festival here in the UK to play for 10-15 thousand people, and that is an offer I cannot pass up!
So, if by chance any of you live Warrington way or nearby and fancy a shot, then PM me.
Our website is www.malefic.co.uk - music can be downloaded from this very location!

Michael Angelo Batio in Guitar World
by BULL on Thu May 12, 2005 1:26 am
This month Guitar World features Mike in the lastest instullment. He gives you advice on "how to play fast, fast." His Dean Mach guitar is feature in the centerfold. I'd to see DEAN make a Mach series after his guitar, single neck of course.
...have any experience with the Yamaha DG Stomp?
I have one on it's way... took it on trade. Anyone know any really good patch settings or anything? I'm really looking forward to it. I heard it's a killer unit. I just hope I can get a decent Evergrey/Nevermore type of gain out of it.
randall vs marshall no contest!!
At the advice of fellow forum members l i purchased a rg 100 randall head today hoping to have a killer second head!!I brought it home all excited pluged it in!! well to say the least i was not happy!!first of all compared to my marshall rcd solid state head this amp had half the volume!!So im like maybee i just need to fiddle with it so i did!!crappy gain no low end !!all mids!! sent my wife running out of the room!! so i figured ok maybee my metal zone pedal(wich sounds great with most amps)will help.total muddy crappy sound.By far my marshall has big bass killer crunch and twice the volume and i only paid 200 bucks for it!!so i packed it back back to the store and got my cash back!!For all u who said buy it!!I suggest u buy a marshall and see what your missing!!!
can anyone tell what my avatar is??

Jolly Roger ML gets an upgrade
by Dischord on Thu May 12, 2005 11:13 pm
That's right folks, that Jolly Roger Phantom ML I purchased from one of our own esteemed board members gets an upgrade. I decided to have it completely refretted, bought all new black hardware for it (through The Music Box in my home town in Virginia) and for S&G purposes picked out an F-spaced DiMarzio X2N pup to fill the bridge while the original blade pup sits in the neck.

Pod XT Live VS. Vox Tonelab
by Faust on Thu May 12, 2005 11:29 pm
I am looking at these two floor modelers and considering buying one... any opinions on either? A friend of mine has recommended the Tonelab over the Pod XT Live.... but I have also heard that the XT Live rules.
I am looking for a floor based modeling processor, not an amp... so thanks in advance for not hijacking the thread with posts about amp heads. I have to play in an apartment half the time, So I need someting that stays quiet.
And "They both suck" or "I hate modelers" doesnt really help much either.
You can however hijack the thread with hot blonde chicks with schoolgirl stockings and short skirts... Always welcome.
Please let me know your thoughts on these two processors. Looking for honest opinions.

tomorrow I get to turn in my letter of resignation to my current employer...this has been a long time coming!!!!
I got my 59 and Dimebucker tooday =)
1 issue,
I took out the Dean pickups and I found that on the back of the pot (dont know what there called) there are 3 metal "things" sticking out.
One is Bent up, and the other 2 are not.
Now the instruction say to solder the black wire to the first "Thing" but the "thing" has been alredy soldered to the Selector. The 2nd "thing" on the pot isnt used but in the instructions say to use it for the pickup slector. Basically what im trying to say is are the 2 "things" on the pot that isnt bent up the same thing
frackin hate haaveing to use "thing"
Ok I know this is a "W" question, and I know there's a place for it, but I honestly don't feel like Registering for another board to ask it.
BUT, I have a 332. I was wondering if it would be worth it to Floyd it? And if anyone knows what that sort of thing runs. I got the guitar for like $179 off musicians friend. I have a funny feeling that Floyding it will cost more than that. Am I right?
anyone got one??how does it compare to say a metal zone pedal????
Friend of mine told me he played a 7string ML...I told him he was a fool and slapped the s#%t out of him.
I've been all over the site and I didn't see one. Does one exist? Do any Dean 7strings exist?

Any HUGE Stevie Ray Vaughan fans in here.
Finally found a pic of Mark and his Caddy from BWBK show
Black and White - but better than nothing.......must have been quite the slidey riff there with the blazing left hand on the fretboard.
apologies if this has been posted before, but i've recently been doing somewhat of a re-discovery of Zeppelin, and i'm just curious as to what you guys favourite albums are.
Personally i absolutely love 'Led Zeppelin III' - 'Hats off to (Roy) Harper' is one of my favorate songs.
'Houses of the Holy' and 'Presence' also come in close.
Did Pete Steele from Type o Negative / Carnivore pass away?
http://www.typeonegative.net
could be a bad joke - although I did read something about bad health earlier in the year.
Thanks to the guys that helped with my motherbucker
Thanks guys, i did it last night and i wasnt confused! - knew what to do with all the wires... although the kent armstrong diagram is wrong... i just followed the way it was wired before, i replaced the volume pot too for a 500k.... do i need to replace the tone pot too to get its full potentual? very good pickup by the way - i wired the 2 humbuckers so they was in series with eachother so all four single coils were in a loop. - its very clear, loadsa punch and defined highs. harmonics are better than the old washburn pickup but could be better- does this have something to do with the 250k tone?
I just got a 79 Z off of Ebay. The entire second fret is dead. Dink dink on every string. I'm assuming that the nut is too low but I am nervous because there are cracks in the paint near the fretboard And I am worried that the fretboard might have lifted from the neck.
PS It's time for some bad feedback because this guy didn't mention any of this.
i dunno if anyone on here is into Black Metal atall, but after years of nothing, it seems Varg Vikernes of Burzum is gonna be doing another album when he gets out (Metal rather than Ambient).
Personally, i'm totally stoked about this news.
Check it out here: http://www.metalcrypt.com/pages/interviews.php?intid=170
Stock pickups on Vendetta 2.0
Does anybody have a clue which stock pickups my
Vendetta 2.0 has?
I don't
It's a tranz-brazilia one.
I don't know the serialnumber either.
It doesn't say anywhere.
A little help would be appreciated
Hey everybody, I have a Boss Metal Zone, and am starting to realize how truly shitty it is. Any suggestions on what I should get instead?

FROM THE CONCERT TONIGHT
Pics to come soon!!!
OK a review:
BEHEMOTH - opening band, pretty killer, more along the lines of old-school death metal with a more Dimmu Borgir-ish vocal mix. I like them, and will definitely check out their CD's
BLACK DAHLIA MURDER - these guys really know how to work the crowd, and their music F'N ROCKS...great band, better than Behemoth, but Behemoth is certainly not second rate!
NILE - The lull in the show, sadly. All the hype, two beautiful pointy Deans, and blah. I took pics for the porn aspect alone.
KING DIAMOND - now THESE GUYS KICKED ASS!!! HARDCORE!!! Andy, Mike, Hal, and Matt are top notch musicians, and the King and his antics with Jodie and Livia were simply over the top. GREAT F'N SHOW!!! Yes I'm hyped!!! I will post pics when I recover!!! Probably around Monday!!
And King Diamond is the best live show I've ever seen, and this was my first time...but certainly not the last!!!
X6StringerX Cleans Up His Act
I have a couple pictures I thought I'd share with you guys. My girlfriend's senior prom was last night and I had to wear the dreaded "monkey suit". I thought I'd do things a little different and go without a vest and do the stripped down look with all black... 'cept for the tie of course.
hey seeing all these clips and stuff showing up on the forum especially of younger guitar players makes me want to post some of my stuff, i wanted people who have been playing a while to listen and maybe give me some pointers on sound or style, i have been playin a little less than 4 years, i am alright but i could be better.
So if any of you know were i can maybe upload a short clip for free please post a link. thanks
What do you think of these guys?
Personally I dig em. I like thier sounds, and the lyrics are nifty.
I've heard their song "Pull Harder on the Strings of your Martyr" and its pretty good. I haven't checked out the rest of there album but that song is pretty good. Any of you guys like them?

"Worth Fighting For" will be released as a single on Tuesday. Wonder if radio will start playing it? That song has some of the strongest guitar playing on Angel of Retribution JP's march release. If you dont have the cd, GET IT!!
Live in Yokohama May 8th From www.judaspriest.com
I rarely buy cd singles but bands like this usually put live tracks on them to spice up sales. Wonder what will be on this one.

Hope we can do it and Dave will take a chance and order the remaining 2 to get an order of 12 done. That is the minimum order quanity to get a run done not 6. I know these will be nice, so if you been thinking about it, and can budget a payment plan over 6 months, talk to Dave 1.877.417.9223

Dimebucker and a floyd rose
well i recently had a floyd rose installed on my ml and i got to tell u it stays in tune great!! there is one draw back!!with the lack of wood under the bridge it took the big meaty sound with it!!so i decided i needed to compensate!!So i pulled my duncan invader out and slaped in a duncan dimebucker.well let me tell ya that helped big time!!thank god!!I thought i was gonna have to sell it!! the dimebucker is pretty crunchy and lots of sustain!!way to go dime!!!rip!!
scared of p2p, ftp, and mirc downloads? try this program

Les Paul Inducted Into Inventor's Hall of Fame
by jim6 on Mon May 16, 2005 2:52 pm
If it wasn't for this guy, we'd all probably be playing with something else....
AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Electric guitar pioneer Les Paul was one of 14 people inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame this year.
Paul invented the solid body electric guitar in 1946, and his Gibson Guitar Corp. model is one of the best-selling instruments in the industry. The 89-year-old Wisconsin native is widely renowned for his recording techniques.
Paul also has won five Grammy Awards.
Other inventors inducted on Saturday included Dr. Alec Jeffreys, who invented genetic fingerprinting, and Robert Gundlach, who has earned more than 150 patents and invented the modern photocopier.
The hall was founded in 1973 by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the National Council of Intellectual Property Law Associations.
It accepts nominations on its Web site but inductees are selected by a committee including leaders in scientific and technical fields. There are 235 inductees in the hall of fame.

I'm still loving this guitar a ton!!!
*Snip*
by Faust on Mon May 16, 2005 6:17 pm
Today I pulled out my Jackson SL-1 Soloist... took the back cover off and played it for a few minutes... then, like a bomb squad technician, I cut the wire to the tone control while the guitar was plugged in and continued to play....
Wow!
The harmonics practically doubled. It has a 250K tone pot in it which really muted the Parallel Axis trembucker that I installed in it. It sounds amazing now!
Parallel Axis Trembucker kicks butt!
This guitar has taken on new life....
Yeah baby!
Bat Head Soup

No.. sorry fellas.. it's not a recipe!
This CD is totally badass! I found it in my collection while I was cleaning up my room.
Here's the lineup:
http://yescography.tripod.com/BatHeadSoup.htm
Definitely worth adding to your CD arsenal if you don't have it already.
Instead of all of these sticky announcement cluttering up the General Forum, couldn't we just have an Announcements and News forum for that stuff?
Let's Talk HardTail Selects
Well now that I have a nice HT Select to work with I am probably gonna tweak it lik I usually do. I am planning on a Tone-Pros bridge and havea set of Seymour Duncans on the way. I was also thinking of modifying the wiring a little bit and I have already added my standard 330pf bleed caps to the volume pots. What has everybody else done with thier HT Selects?
DOA PROTO VERSUS PRODUCTION
OK THE PROTO IS ON THE RIGHT AND THE PRODUCTION IS ON THE LEFT. OBVIOUSLY THE PRODUCTION VANEER HAS LARGER QUILTS. COLOR IS ABOUT THE SAME. MIKE WAS KIND ENOUGH TO PUT A KILLER GIBSON PICKUP IN THE BRIDGE , I MEAN REALLY SWEET SOUNDING PUP AND A DUNCAN JB IN THE BRIDGE. THE JB IS HOT LOTS OF MIDS AND BITE. NOT A METAL PUP THOUGH BUT STILL NICER THAN THE STOCK PUPS ON THE PROTO. THE NECK ON THE PROTO IS MUCH THICKER TOO. MIKE ALSO PUT A NICE INTONATION BAR ON IT THAT IS MUCH NICER THAN THE STOCK ONE TOO. THE PRODUCTION MODEL SEEMS TO WEIGH A BIT LESS THAN THE PROTO, WHICH IS ODD CAUSE THE PROTO IS A COUPLE MILIMETERS THINNER. I DONT HAVE A SCALE TO GET EXACT WIEGHT THOUGH. THE PROTO HAS A LARGER HEADSTOCK TOO . I DIDNT TAKE PICS OF IT BUT IT SEEMS TO BE BOUT 3/4 OF AN INCH LARGER. LASTLY THE PROTO HAS REAL BINDING AND THE PRODUCTION I BELIEVE IS BINDING TAPE LIKE THE REGULAR 79 REISSUES.
WStoll (and other Sovtek owners/users)
Shed some light on the Mig series. There's a MIG 100 head at a local pawn shop for $299. However, there's a downside... they don't have any cabs, so I don't know what I'm buying. I've heard it's similar to a JCM 800... but maybe a little more gain. I want something that can do over-the-top gain, but I realize I'll most likely need a pedal to push it into Recto/5150/Uberschall territory. Anyways, post what you know on these suckers if you don't mind fellas.
Any clips?

OK, here's a crappy video clip from our first reunion show.
by ML Tib on Tue May 17, 2005 9:04 am
2 guys did video of this show. The sound quality sucks on this one. I wish the guy would have stood in back and used his zoom feature. Joe told me even though his brother's video turned out a little dark, the sound quality was allot better on that video. I hoping to get my hands on it, and digitize it.

Does anyone know anything about Olivo guitars and basses? My brother has an Olivo bass that he bought at a store closing sale about 25 years ago and would like to find out ore about this luthier. Any information would
help. Thanx...

Need opinions on pickups
by jimlp on Tue May 17, 2005 4:44 pm
I have a czech caddy and I am having a problem finding the tone I have in my head. I put a Duncan Distortion in the bridge but it is not doing it for me, the rythem crunch is nice but the single notes sound thin for leads. I am looking for a Schenker type tone but I do not know if I can achieve it with the smaller body and the ebony board.
How about my customized DEAN leather jacket???

Hey all,
I've been looking into some cheap tube amps, since i don't exactly have a huge allowance, and I found these. Anybody have any opinions on these, or any other amps you think would be good? I'll have a nice distortion pedal, so if they don't distort well, that shouldn't be a problem.

SD 59 question
by cyd666 on Wed May 18, 2005 8:58 am
Hey guys,
I am in the process of replaceing the pickups in my ML. I already put a dimebucker in the bridge and now I am looking for a neck pickup. I was thinking about the sd 59 but the prices on those are up there, and I have not seen any cheeper ones ebay as of yet. Does anybody have any recomendations on a pickup that would be close to that? thinking I want a zebra look for it also. Thanks!

Huges & Ketner Warp Factor
Well, I just got the pedal, and I've got to say, it kicks the s#%t out of every other distortion pedal Ive ever played. There are a few problems, like how much noise it produces (getting a noise gate soon), and it relies on an AC adapter, not a battery. For my room playing, its perfect. I reccomend it to all you shredders and pantera fans. It'll make your 10" speaker sound like a 4x12!

Dilbert Quotes Contest Winners
by Faust on Thu May 19, 2005 12:40 pm
A magazine ran a "Dilbert Quotes" contest. They were looking for people
to submit quotes from their real-life Dilbert-type managers. Following
are some of the submissions:
1. As of tomorrow, employees will only be able to access the building
using individual security cards. Pictures will be taken next Wednesday
and employees will receive their cards in two weeks.
(This was the winning entry; Fred Dales at Microsoft Corporation in
Redmond, WA)
2. What I need is a list of specific unknown problems we will encounter.
(Lykes Lines Shipping)
3. How long is this Beta guy going to keep testing our stuff?
(Programming intern, Microsoft IIS Development team)
4. E-mail is not to be used to pass on information or data. It should be
used only for company business.
(Accounting Mgr., Electric Boat Company)
5. This project is so important, we can't let things that are more
important interfere with it.
(Advertising/Mktg. Mgr., UPS)
6. Doing it right is no excuse for not meeting the schedule. No one will
believe you solved this problem in one day! We've been working on it for
months. Now, go act busy for a few weeks and I'll let you know when it's
time to tell them.
(R&D Supervisor, Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing /3M Corp.)
7. My boss spent the entire weekend retyping a 25-page proposal that
only needed corrections. She claims the disk I gave her was damaged and
she couldn't edit it. The disk I gave her was write-protected.
(CIO of Dell Computers)
8. Quote from the boss: "Teamwork is a lot of people doing what I say."
(Mktg. executive, Citrix Corporation)
9. My sister passed away and her funeral was scheduled for Monday. When
I told my boss, he said she died so that I would have to miss work on
the busiest day of the year. He then asked if we could change her burial
to Friday. He said, "That would be better for me."
(Shipping Executive, FTD Florists)
10. We know that communication is a problem, but the company is not
going to discuss it with the employees.
(AT&T Long Lines Division)
11. We recently received a memo from senior management saying, "This is
to inform you that a memo will be issued today regarding the subject
mentioned above."
(Microsoft, Legal Affairs Division)
12. One day my boss asked me to submit a status report to him concerning
a project I was working on. I asked him if tomorrow would be soon
enough. He said, "If I wanted it tomorrow, I would have waited until
tomorrow to ask for it!"
(New Business Mgr., Hallmark Cards)
13. As director of communications, I was asked to prepare a memo
reviewing our company's training programs and materials. In the body of
the memo one of the sentences mentioned the "pedagogical approach" used
by one of the training manuals. The day after I routed the memo to the
executive committee, I was called into the HR Director's office, and was
told that the executive VP wanted me out of the building by lunch. When
I asked why, I was told that she wouldn't stand for "perverts"
(pedophiles?) working in her company. Finally he showed me her copy of
the memo, with her demand that I be fired, with the word "pedagogical"
circled in red. The H.R. Manager was fairly reasonable, and once he
looked the word up in his dictionary and made a copy of the definition
to send to my boss, he told me not to worry. He would take care of it.
Two days later a memo to the entire staff came out, directing us that no
words which could not be found in the local Sunday newspaper could be
used in company memos. A month later, I resigned. In accordance with
company policy, I created my resignation letter by pasting words
together from the Sunday paper.
(Taco Bell Corporation)
14. This gem is the closing paragraph of a nationally-circulated memo
from a large communications company: "Lucent Technologies is
endeavouringly determined to promote constant attention on current
procedures of transacting business focusing emphasis on innovative ways
to better, if not supersede, the expectations of quality!"
Recommend a good guitar stand...
by Gamera on Thu May 19, 2005 9:39 pm
...for my new 79V? I currently have 3 of 'em and the ends of the V scrape the ground on all of 'em. Anyone know of a decent brand that offers a stand that'll lift the guitar a little higher off the ground and still be stable? I prefer a traditional-looking stand to a wall mount or multi-stand.
Hey all, I was changing out the pickups on my HT Select and snapped a few pics of the insides of the pickup cavities. Looks to me like a solid maple top - and I don't see any signs of a veneer, sweet!
And here's what she looks like all buttoned up
I must say that this guitar freakin RULES with some real pickups in it!

It's that time again in Florida - HURRICANE SEASON
by BLOYD on Fri May 20, 2005 7:42 pm
Time to batten down the hatches here in Florida!
Hurricane season starts in little over a week. Last year was insane and this year was predicted to be as bad!

Not a Dean, but a cool V. GMP Porn attached!
HELLO, SNAKE RIVER CANYON! ARE YOU READY TO ROCK???!!!
That's right, Evel fans, the GMP Evel Kneivel NAMM show V is alive and well and ready to rock my world.
I first saw this one-of-a-kind badboy when GMP (RIP) posted pics of their Winter NAMM show guitars earlier this year. As anyone who knows GMP knows, those guys pulled out all the stops for their NAMM show guitars -- but this one jumped out and strangled me.
Growing up, Evel was my hero. So when I see his trademark stars and stripes graphic -- in GMP sparkle no less -- on a guitar, well, I was smitten to say the least.
When GMP ran into trouble recently, I said what the heck. Sold some stuff and ordered it up.
This thing is beyond bad a s s, boys. So outrageous. So rock n roll. Build and finish quality is just what you expect from GMP, and it plays like butta. Haven't plugged it in yet (too busy ogling it), but even unplugged it sounds killer.
This makes GMP number four for me, and I don't want to stop. GMP and Dean are my favorite guitar brands by far.
GMP guitars are that amazing. I urge you to check one out if you ever get a chance.

back in the saddle...
by DINASTY on Sat May 21, 2005 12:47 am
So the bassist for my old band called me the other day and asked me if I'd be interested in playing in his new band. Apparently, his Guitarist has decided to quit and leave them right in the middle of everything [recording, shows, you name it]. We had left on amiable terms [we stopped playing because the drumer was medically unable to play any more, and by the time it was a definate on his condition, the bassist's side project band had really started to take off, and we agreed he should go on with it]. So he he had me come on up and try out today. I just got back from the try out.
After that car wreck I was in, and the resulting nerve damage, playing long lengths of time was a lot more difficult that I remember, but I did manage to make it through. I didn't mess up any notes because of my hands [only the ones from learning on-the-spot, ha ha ha]. But man, are my wrists sore now! They were all very happy with everything, and want me to learn some more stuff and come back on Tuesdday. the bassists told me I pretty much have it, they [other band members] just want to see if I show some aptitude for learning some more stuff, show i really want the job. They don;t have anyone else to try out, and they were tickled I did so well today, so as long as I do that well tuesday, I'm in. At any rate, I'm not listed up in the band yet, the old guitarist' stuff hasn't been pulled yet, and the stuff isn't terribly complicated [which is good for me at the moment], but at any rate... you can check it out at;

Has anyone heard this amp? If so, whats it like?
Im getting sick of CD players because they are bulky, even with the electronic skip protection it still skips sometimes when im running and changing cds is annoying. I assume someone here has to have an I-pod Mini. I am looking into them and i have the money and i have 1.75 gig of songs on my computer that i would like to move onto an mp3 player. If anyone has one then i would like some info. Thank you in advance.

What bands are touring? Who should I see or avoid?
by matthew on Sun May 22, 2005 6:40 am
This year I've promised myself to get out and see more bands. For too long I have missed shows because my friends couldn't make up their minds. I'll go by myself if I have to!
Anyway, so far I've seen Violent Femmes and Anthrax this year. I have tickets to Alice Cooper, and tomorrow I'm going to stand in line for tickets to Motley Crue/Motorhead.
So, who else is touring that I should keep an eye out for, or maybe avoid? I'm mostly into hard rock, but after seeing Anthrax, I'm happy to go and listen to more metal too. Anything related to those kind of genres is good with me.
OK, two I'm curious about that I know are coming down under - Mudvayne, and The Taste of Chaos Tour. Apparently the Taste of Chaos will feature The Used, Killswitch Engage, Story of the Year, Funeral for a Friend, and Rise Against. I don't know anything about any of these bands. Are they worth seeing?
Amazing....

Tascam guitar trainer???
by Theo on Mon May 23, 2005 2:32 pm
Maybe this has been covered before (maybe not).. Does anyone have any experience with the TASCAM GTI MkII guitar trainer? looks like a cool toy. Thinking about getting one what are your thoughts? It has some pretty good endorsements on the websight and can be had on MF and M123 for $150 bones or so.
Thanks,
Theo
I need to beef up my credit, and I'm dying for an ENGL Powerball amp, so what better way to accomplish both at the same time than taking out a loan to buy one! Now the hard part, WHO SELLS THESE THINGS???
O/T this is a stupid question but does a tab program exist?
wanting to know if theres such a program freeware or buy, that will let users plug there guitar, bass etc into soundcard and will automatic tab out whatever is played through there soundcard?
i can only hope because im to lazy to sit in front of a screen and tab it all out
Dean ML model question
by mdp728 on Mon May 23, 2005 7:40 pm
Well I need to know what model this dean ml is because Im fixing to buy it. Its a solid mohagany black ML. Its made in the US. Zebra pickups. The friend selling me this guitar is selling it dirt cheap. He bought it christmas 2001 I think. He bought it directly off the dean site through the authorized dealer selection for around 800 or 900. I would like to know if anyone knows the model name and list price and if dean makes it anymore.
How long does it take...

...for a Dean t-shirt to ship to Houston?
JUST WANTED TO POINT OUT MY TOTAL HATRED FOR JB PICKUPS . I REALLY LIKE THIS DOA ML I GOT FROM MIKE , MIGHT BE A BETTER PLAYER THAN THE DOA PROTOTYPE BUT I REALLY DONT UNDERSTAND PEOPLE WHO LOVE THE JB PICKUP . THIS ML CAME WITH ONE. MY GOD IT IS A SHITTY PICKUP . TOOK THE GUITAR TO A GIG SATURDAY NIGHT. PICKUP SCREAMED CONSTANTLY AND THE MOST MICROPHONIC PICKUP I EVER HEARD. YOU COULD LITERALLY TALK INTO THE PICKUP LIKE A CRAPPY MICROPHONE. IVE NEVER OWNED A PICKUP YOU COULD TALK INTO . IVE HEARD OF PEOPLE BEING ABLE TO DO THAT BUT ALWAYS THOUGH THAT HAD TO BE THE JUNKIEST OF JUNK PICKUPS. I WOULD NEVER HAVE FIGURED A JB TO BE SO CRAPPY. ANYWAYS THATS MY STORY. NEEDLESS TO SAY MY OTHER ML WITH THE DIMARZIO X2N TOTALLY ROCKED THE HOUSE ALL NIGHT.
Sneaking on commander's computer
to tell you about my new project.
As yet unnamed, three members thus far in this metalfest, and I do mean metalfest.
On guitar, Don and Manny Centeno
I haven't met the vocalist yet, but it's a female who likes to emulate Angela Gossaw so I like her already.
I met Manny through a fluke of luck, went to his place, plugged in and we just did a random jam through six songs before we stopped and decided that DEFINITELY this was a great band forming if we could find the remaining members. He's a Jacksonophile but his first Dean was a korina Z I put in his hands to jam with me, so I'm corrupting him already, and he has a strong affinity for the V's so I can foresee a twin V attack in my future!
OK, to give you guys some idea, the first three Deans to ever sit in this man's hands were:
Korina Z
Spalted Maple V
DOA ML #44
yes I'm evil
I'm taking the metallic black select next time I go

whats the best pickups for a heavier distortion. A friend bought a dimebucker and it sounds good but i think there can be better so your info is greatly needed.
thx
Angus is god
I tried loading some pictures on a recent post, screwed up and hit the wrong key, and in the process lost the link to the pics I uploaded. When I tried to upload again, it wouldn't let me because " pics already exist". Couldn't find them in the active photo archive (updated 26 Feb 05). Does anyone know how often the photo directory gets updated?
Also, how do you guys do the animated avatars?
I like the JB's. They are a good match to my Peavey XXX. With the coil taps I have now, I get lotsa cool sounds.
If you want microphonic, ya' need to dig up an original Gibson Dirty Fingers. I used to use those in the late 80's. Totally screaming, out of control, microphonic paradise. You could talk into the pickup, or sing, or place an order for another beer, all the while killing everyone's hearing with the most profane squealing.
I loved it!!

p90's + pickguards...
by l_train on Wed May 25, 2005 1:15 am
i always wanted to take a strat, and throw a p90 in the bridge, but i know it wont be easy to mount cause theres no practical way to mount it to a pickguard... any sugestions?
well, im thinking about making the switch from playing electric and acoustic to just playing acoustic. Really, i find myself playing acoustic stuff way more than electric stuff, and in reality i like acoustic music better. Plus if i sold my electric gear i would then have the money to spend on a really nice acoustic...like maybe a Zen... i know most of us dean players are pretty hard rockers, so maybe opinions here are slightly biased, but it be pretty cool to get some feedback. do any of you play just acoustic, or used to play electric and switched to acoustic????
thanx,
ryan

by Lurker on Wed May 25, 2005 1:20 am
Yeah, it's a sticker, sadly.
Wonder if the DEANSHOP will ever answer the call....
Don't get me wrong, panties; earrings; barstools; floormats; glasses and such are cool.... BUT, it would really be cool if they sold some actual GUITAR accessories slathered with "The Wings!"
Trying out 2 or 3 singers this week
Been a while and the search for the singer continues. Usually it seems to be trouble finding a bassist or drummer, but we can't find a singer that can a) sing, b) stay around, c) stay out of trouble.
Our other guitarist is doing guitar/vocal duties with the drummer helping with backups (any one that has heard my silly songs knows why they won't allow a mic stand anywhere near me )
Hopefully things go well this week and we have a new front man to do all those wonderful things a front man does.
Anyone pick up the new Dickinson CD Today?
Mine is enroute along with the new Evergrey DVD. They're due tomorrow. Anyone had a chance to give this a good listen yet, and how does it compare to Accident of Birth and Chemical Wedding?

BLS visited Holland last night, and though it's not entirely my taste I still went.
It was pretty cool, they played some songs off my fav disc "1919" and Zakk did a 15 minute acoustical intermezzo.
He played the RAZORBACK for a very long rendition of "in this river"
Best part was the beer fight though! everybody started throwing beer at zakk, coolest point was he only liked it and started throwning beer back! he was smiling from ear to ear! now that's some killer anti rockstar behaviour!
Looking for Opinions ON PA's
by BigDog on Wed May 25, 2005 5:35 pm
Any of You Guys have an opinion on PA's. The choices get to be too many.
Looking at Combo's, but also might consider Pwered Speakers with a Mixer.
Looked at MAckie 808S (8channel) $aprox 840)
and the Peavey 8 channel (forgot the #) (aprox $650)
With JBL Speakers
Is a combo as good, reliable or is it just as easy to haul around a lighter / smaller mixer with pwered speakers??
Appreciate any comments.

Off to Mexico in the morning
Off to Mexico to play the Metalfest. Dragging along only Deans! Caddy, V and Vendetta.
Last week was incredibly stressfull. I had finished all the paperwork for the Mexico show. Contracts signed, things notarized. I even had to go to the state department to get an apostille. The final documents look like the huge stack of papers you get at a house closing.
I thought all was well last Wednesday.
Then I get a very early phone call. Our drummers new passport had an error on it! His birthdate was listed as this year. For those not familar with passports, an error can be very very bad. In fact this error could have stopped everything.
So the mission was to get his Swedish passport corrected in one day!!! Impossible everyone said! But the Swedish consulate stepped up and fixed it that day and overnight delivered it.
See you all later!

So what's the deal with Krank amps?
by Baco on Thu May 26, 2005 6:12 am
I'm looking out for a new guitar head and I was wondering how those Krank heads are. I can test one, but that's a 900 km drive (times 2), so I'm looking out for some testimonials.
I'm not only talking about the Krankenstein here, the Revolution series sound pretty good too. More and more bands seem to be using/endorsing these amps (Arch Enemy, Shadows Fall, ...).
Enlighten me
I want to add some graphics to one of my guitars. They're very minimal, so I don't want to have to strip the finish off the guitar. What kind of paints and sealers should I use?
Pup covers....
by clmazza7 on Thu May 26, 2005 12:54 pm
I've been toying with allowing my nickel plated pup covers to age naturally and stop polishing them all the time in order to maintain their shininess (did I really write that?!) It's really becoming a task especially on the poorly plated ones....
What are your thoughts? Do you prefer the aged look (which is starting to appeal to me) or do you like the minty fresh shiny look?
I just love the Dealer Inventory pix on the main site. Not only is it great porn, it's great to be able to see where a model I may be interested in resides.
[rant mode] I JUST WISH IT WAS UP TO DATE !! [rant mode off]
Thank you... thank you very much.
New Beer Diet (should make a few happy)
The "Beer-Me" Diet
It seems that a lot of people are dieting recently, trying everything from an all-carbohydrate to an all-protein mix. I have another suggestion, one that has worked through the ages: the "Beer-Me" diet. Personally, I have a "liquid dinner" every time I go to the club on Friday night!
Fact: A lite beer has between 70 and 100 calories, is almost all water, and the part that isn't water is almost pure carbohydrates.
Fact: The average diet recommends a daily caloric intake of 1,200 calories for women, 1,500 for men, if you want to lose the medically safe two to three pounds a week. On the "Beer-Me" diet, that equates to at least 12 beverages a day for women, and 15 for men. A measurable goal.
Fact: The alcohol in beer is a diuretic, which causes the water to flush out almost immediately, leading to a consistent workout regimen including deep knee bends (getting out of the chair), fast walking (very good for your heart) and squats (as the case may be).
Fact: Drinking beer actually helps you sleep-even when you aren't necessarily tired. All that added rest is certain to help any problems you may have experienced in sleep deprivation, counting calories on those other fad diets. In addition, you may experience the occasional "How did I get here?" when you wake up, which always makes for lively conversation, and possibly additional exercise if you have to sneak out and run home.
Fact: The "Beer-Me" diet is good for your heart. After just one day of consuming your required 12-15 beers, you will certainly want to consume some aspirin, which is medically proven to help prevent heart attacks.
Fact: On the "Beer-Me" diet you can eat anything you want. The only rule is that you cannot consume any food until you have consumed at least half of the day's required beers. This way the food will probably only stay in your body a short time, until you again exercise the deep knee bends, quick walk and, this time, the "lean-over-and-hurl" stomach crunches.
Fact: Beer drinking is often done in bars, where other forms of exercise are common. Dancing, for example, is a good way to build up a thirst, as is chasing members of the opposite grox. If you really want to maximize your workout, try actually walking up to the bar, versus using a waitress. To take this to the extreme, you could even get up and get someone else a beer-perhaps someone who is newer to the diet plan than yourself.
Fact: Beer is cheaper than Jenny Craig.
Based on these facts, let's run through a given scenario for diet implementation.
Caution: This is a weekend diet plan, and should be attempted during the work week by only the staunchest of dieters.
Monday through Thursday: Eat junk food, and basically be a slob.
Friday: Feeling "huge," swing by the liquor store and stock up. Go to favorite place of beer drinking and begin the consumption process (remember 12 for women, 15 for men).
Saturday: Wake up (as required) and lounge around all day, feeling slightly smaller after expunging any food that you may have accidentally consumed (particularly if it involved beef jerky from the 7 Eleven). Take aspirin. Notice that you have absolutely no interest in food, anyway.
Saturday (p.m.): Restart cycle, noticing that your appetite has still not returned. Perhaps only meet half of your consumption goal due to an ongoing discussion with "the dog t 364 hat bit you." This is a good thing, as only half-consumption means less than 1,000 calories for the day, and you still don't feel hungry.
Sunday (a.m.): Wake up for mandatory sports day. This is a very convenient diet during football season, but it can be successfully implemented year-round. There is some major professional sport being played every day of the year except the day before and the day after the Major League All-Star game (fact-look it up). Consumption on this day should be paced to cover the entire day-you don't want to peak too soon. Again you notice a lack of appetite, and are feeling thinner all the time. Don't forget the aspirin.
Monday: Return to work, feeling thinner, well rested, and surprisingly mellow. Mark your log book, and begin preparation for the upcoming weekend.
Happy dieting.

numerous bands.
by Rickyg on Thu May 26, 2005 8:49 pm
do any of you guys have more that one band? i am currently trying to decide how i am going to practice with my three.
Allright. I'm having a huge house party on the 25th of June. This also happens to be the day that our subdivision has it's fireworks show. Needless to say, it's basically a big block party. Last year, I had about 50 people over and the only complaint I heard was from one neighbor who asked us to watch our language and that was at 2 in the morning. This year, I have stepped up the entertainment a bit. Last year, we had a stereo (LOUD) with a bunch of mix cd's. This year, I have three metal bands, a DJ, and a PA. My plan is to have the bands play before the fireworks (which start at 10) and then have the DJ play afterwards. I will also have an Ice Louge, Strippers, and drinking games. Anyone have any advice on how to not get it s-h-u-t down by the po-po?
Edit: God, I can't believe we edit S-H-U-T

a crazy good deal. what do you think?

Frapping dammit, i could just frippin scream. so i go into this local guitar shop and guess what they had there, i will tell you. they had a frippin full stack warhead, which most of you know are just about impossible to find. what pisses me off is that its the mother frippin deal of a lifetime but im about the poorest person i know of. it is only frippin $1300. and what makes me feel somewhat good is that my friend is probobly gonna sell his car to buy it and just get a peice of oatmeal car. so this means if i can't get it, which i won't, i can just go to his house all the time.
I played one of these at Jody's place (Music City) this week and eas very impressed and am going to buy one in the next few days or so. I would like to hear opinions and experiences from forum members. Please tell me a little bit about it, pros/cons and anything else you would like to add. Thanks in advance.
amp problem/question

I know nothing about amps so im perplexed. anways, I get a horrible amount of feedback when playing with distortion at high volumes, can anybody tell me how i can prevent this? The new Gary Kramer guitar.. A leather bound Strat. Sorry to you Strat and Strat clone lovers but I think Dean Zelinsky's designs are 3 notches above anything Kramer may offer.
Ok, your propaganda worked, I bought an X2, ha !
First off, I wanna say that some of the members on this board know what they are talking about when it comes to equipment. I am a die-hard Mesa Boogie guy, and I will probably never use anything but Mesa because I think they make a very powerful, good sounding tube amp. Ok, with that said, I have been listening to all the good reviews on this board since I joined about the Randall Warhead X2. Usually, I take this kind of praise as just some Dimebag fans getting excited over a distortion pedal, but in this case, this could not be more far from the truth. This head sounds REALLY GOOD. I'm pretty impressed that this kind of bone crushing tone could come from a solid-state amplifier Keep in mind , I bought the amp BRAND NEW, from a local music shop that had ONE left here in LA, and I bought it without even hearing what it sounded like. I got it home, plugged it straight into one of my Mesa cabs loaded with Celestion Vintage 30's, and strait to my Dean ML guitar, with NO effects or anything. The thing is pretty damn loud. It actually sounds better at loud volumes (like my Mesa tube amp) and that was surprising. I can't wait to hear what it's going to sound like through my other rig , going through the BBE and Rocktron equipment. So in closing , Thank you guys for recommending this amp, it really shreds and I will probably be playing it more at practice. I doubt it will replace my Boogie, but it's a damn good amp. Here's a pic of it .....................
Does anyone know of any PC Synth programs?
As in, If i got a midi keyboard I could have my very own synth, but the "brain" (the program) would be on my pc?

Bands in and around the Ft. Hood area
by Dischord on Sun May 29, 2005 10:02 pm
Since I started jamming with Manny, he's introduced me to several bands in and around the immediate area...so here's a review of what's to see around here:
Flyleaf - IMO the best band to watch in and around this area...female vocalist, twin guitars (crappy ones, but oh well) and a good drummer. They sound like a cross between The Gathering and Jack off Jill, depending on which part of which song you're in.
Dishwalla - OK, I REALLY expected these guys to rock...twin guitar attack (again crappy geets, lead guitarist uses Les Pauls with Angus buckers, rhythm guitarist uses a Danelectro with a lipstick pup)...but they sound like some band that would appear on say, 90210? Icky icky...the upside to this band - Tainted Love...the downside - the rest of their set.
Kritickill - Umm...simple heavy riffing and lots of screaming. In a nutshell, Linkin Park cloned.
Slickfist - OK this band has lots of potential that goes unused. Crappy twin guitar attack, older style hard rock (AC DC etc) with a lot of Southern Rock influence...as I said lots of potential, but it goes to waste more often than not
Nasty Licks - This is my buddy Pete's band. Good old rock n roll and blues with a touch of metal inside. Crappy guitars (Pete only knows Fender/Gibson, typical Mexican lol). Lots of good talent here but some songs simply aren't in Pete's scope to play. Pete's a Stevie Ray Vaughn clone, more or less, when he plays. Now let's analyze the setlist: Rolling Stones - Paint it Black and Jumping Jack Flash
SRV - Mary Had a Little Lamb, If the House is Rockin', etc
Hendrix - Voodoo Chile, All Along the Watchtower
Black Sabbath - NIB, Sweet Leaf, Fairies Wear Boots
Judas Priest - Living After Midnight, You've Got Another Thing Comin'
The Beatles - ok, I'm unsure song titles so bear with me here... the first one is that Hare Krishna song written by George Harrison, and the second is one I have no clue what title it is.
As to the ACDC, Back in Black and Live Wire are in their set
For me, Nasty Licks is a good bar band, but Flyleaf is a band I'd pay to see. Great female lead vocalist in Flyleaf and great Gathering style riffs with a mix of clean and screamed female vocals.
My $.02
is this any good cause im thinking of buying it to go along side my cry baby from hell, which is a kickass pedal, badass to the motherfuckin core. any info on how the distortion pedal is?

Neck Gunk?
by MrDave on Mon May 30, 2005 6:10 am
I've been having a build up problem on the necks of my guitars. They're all Gibsons with finished necks and now it's even happening to my Dean!
I guess the best way to describe it would be a build up of "gunk" on the back of the neck. Not the fret board mind you, but on the back of the neck. I'd wipe the neck down and in no time it comes right back again! It's nothing you can see but it feels like a very thin coating of dried rubber cement. I keep my guitars clean with Gibson Nitro Polish and wipe them down after heavy playing. I'm guessing the gunk is from the sweat and oils from my fingers, right?
How do I clean it off and more importantly, keep it from coming back? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I just won this tonight for 112.00 u cant beat that for an sg[img]click this link

by sbill on Mon May 30, 2005 1:10 pm
i have a few guitars with em' but only one is giving me a problem. its a jackson(jtx 90 or something, the newest version where the string locks are in front of the fine tuners not under) anyway if you only dive with it its fine, pull up and it comes back to rest sharp, push down and its back to normal, what a pain in the ass! its the only one i have an issue with. its a new guitar had the origional 3 spring setup, the screws were way out(where the springs clip on)so i tightened them up little by little trying to correct it but no help! still does it! thanx in advance for any help.

Just got back from Mexico!
Just got back from Mexico!
What a great time!
We landed (3 of us on one flight) Thursday evening at 7:30. We got through Customs and spent about 30 minutes in a van driving to the hotel. Some of the guys from Tim Owen's band and some members of 'Into Eternity' were also in the van. So we had a great time talking business while driving.
We get to the hotel and wait for our singer and drummer. Both are late and we're getting worried. We get word that our singer did check in and is in his room. We head up to his room. On the way we meet our drummer. So hopefully everyone is here. Not so. The hotel thought our drummer was our singer, so our vocalist Harry is actually missing.
2 hours pass and still no sign of Harry. The last van run was made and he wasn't at the airport. His family in Colorado hasn't heard from him. This sucks!!!! What's happened to him?
Another hour passes and he shows up in a taxi. He explains that he went to 'Domestic baggage claim' which is on the other side of the airport. He waited there for a while. No one spoke English to answer questions. He finally find someone who spoke English and directed him to the proper baggage claim. Then he tried to find the name of the hotel. After about an hour, he ran into a metal fan who knew the name of the hotel. He hopped in a taxi and joined us at the Holiday Inn.
We get up the next morning and get ready for a 10:00 a.m. soundcheck. This is highly unsual for a festival. But we are headlining the smaller stage, so they want us to soundcheck. We take a van to the festival site and are dropped off. But the stage won't be ready until 11:30. So we are sitting with our gear in the middle of a parking lot for 90 minutes. We get sound checked (the sound crew is very good) and we wait for the van to pick us up. The van shows up 2 hours later. We are all sunburned. This all may sound chaotic, but things like this are normal things playing festivals.
We skip the club party that night. We're all tired, so we have a quiet dinner at the hotel restaraunt.
It's show day and we're due at the festival at 10:00 a.m. We catch our van and arrive. We're not playing till 12:40, but luckily we got here early since they changed the layout of everything. We each have to carry our equipment around 200 yards from a new drop van drop off location.
We get to the stage and we notice that everything is running about 1 hour late. If this continues we will be playing at the same time as the main stage is. Thats BAD! Competing against a main stage usually means you get about 20 people watching you.
We go onstage about 70 minutes late. Surprisingly we have a good sized crowd. About 1/2 the crowd seem to know our songs and they chant 'Panzer Panzer Panzer' after each song. Very cool! We play 57 minutes and exit the stage dripping with sweat.
They love personalized picks in Mexico!! I brought 75 and gave all of them away within 20 minutes after playing.
Luckily a van is waiting and we head back to the hotel after doing a 30 minute 'meet and greet'.
We shower and change into short and t-shirts, catch a van back to the festival and watch Hammerfall, WASP and Mago De Oz play. We catch a van back to the hotel at about 10:30. We skip the aftershow party (we aren't much for parties), watch a movie and try to catch up on sleep.
I wore a Dean shirt for the last part of the festival. Many people said 'Dean!' followed by something in Spanish that sounded favorable. I had about 30 people comment on the shirt.
Overall, a very enjoyable experience. The promoters were great to work with and the metal fans in Mexico are AWESOME! I want to go back!

What kind of home recorders do you use
I just recently aquired a Akia dps12 of ebay and love it. Yeah it's a few years old but the features and ease of use are second to none. The hardest part was transfering to pc and running sonar since the os system for the akai was being nasty. I was gonna get a Roland vs 880 but decided on the Akia because it was brand new unopened. And actually was. It had all the factory os upgrades already and increased internal memory. Once I ditched the manual and messed around I found this recorder is super easy to use and the track layering is awsome. Having the capability to record 8 tracks at once is nice also since we miked and entire drum set and guitars at the same time to see what it sounded like. We love it. Definatly no more going into the studios. We even built a vocal booth already. So what do you guys use? Does anyone here have this recorder?
My job sucks. So if anyone is hiring in the Dallas area please let me know.
Im coming home!

Need your help- Amp question/problem
I'm hoping you guys can help me with this. I was playing last night and the phone rang, so I put the amp on standby. About 20 minutes later, I came back, took the amp off standby and... no volume. I've got a Peavy xxx 40w(tube amp). I've had it about a year (got it when I first started playing) and I don't know what could be wrong with. All of the lights come on but no sound. I checked the obvious- volume knobs on the guitar and amp, tried all 3 channels on the amp. I even tried the time-tested "turn it off for a little while then turn it back on" technique, but no volume or noise- nothing.
Since I'm a beginner, maybe there's something obvious I'm overlooking. Could it be a fuse? A tube(s)?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Now that I've gotten Ian's seal of approval on these MP3s
by ML Tib on Tue May 31, 2005 9:05 pm
I wanna share some MP3s from our show last month. I made them from the DVD video hooked up to my stereo. The recording(s) is ambient, so the levels were not equal. Enjoy...

Watta ya say guys?
I'm looking for a new axe, I mainly play rithm/power-chords and are planning to place a set of EMG's 81/85 on it... is it worth to pay the extra buck to go for the MLF '79 or should I stay with the ML XT?
Let me know of likes and dislikes on these two models.
Thanks!
Proposed setlist
by Dischord on Wed Jun 01, 2005 12:21 am
The new band name is likely to be Blasphemous Serenity, due to the thrashy riffs and melodies we mix together in our music.
Our setlist thus far as proposed will be:
The original (DUH)
Welcome Home (King Diamond)
The Invisible Guests (King Diamond)
Symbolic (Death)
Trapped in a Corner (Death)
Take to the Sky (Jag Panzer)
Tea (King Diamond)
Return to Serenity (Testament)
Black Horsemen (King Diamond)
Souls of Black (Testament)
Battered and Bruised (Jag Panzer)
Lack of Comprehension (Death)
Cosmic Sea (Death)
Burning Angel (Arch Enemy)
Children of the Grave (Black Sabbath)
Heartwork (Carcass)
unsure the title, but track #1 off of Sabbat's Dream Weaver CD
Spinning Jenny (Skyclad)
People of the Lie (Kreator)
still hashing out which Destruction song to cover
still hashing out which Cynic song to cover
unsure of the title, but a Tankard song (for Hans)
And something off of Painkiller in the air thus far
And we don't half-ass the solos either!
Ohh and one last oldie but goodie

Rolling Thunder Memorial Day ride
by wstoll on Wed Jun 01, 2005 1:26 am
Hey Jay "Jaybathehut" sorry we could get hooked up. Hope you had a safe ride back home. Here is Susan and I on top of the hill
overlooking the Pentagon Parking lot. There is about 250,000 bikes
already in the lot and it was only about 10:30am. I think the official estimate will be between 325,000 to 350,000 in all.
