Has anyone bought stuff from GuitarShop.net? Is it trustworthy? I'm only asking this cause well, I don't trust that stuff real well, and it's a lot of money so I wanna know that I can trust the place I'm buying it from. Thanks. Smile
Darn GAS... There is no escape!!!
by Armitage on Wed Jun 01, 2005 11:40 am
OK, so I call up Brian and Wild West Guitars to finalize my custom ordered Dean Caddillac III, I'm looking at his web page to get the phone number and GAS HITS... BANG! Right in the middle of a custom order too!!

So I picked up another Dean Time Capsule V...

At least it will get here before the Caddy!! I don't have any hopes on the Caddy getting here any time soon, I'm still waiting on a matched set of BrazilliaBurst Time Capsules. A V, Z and ML...

Here's the picture off Wild West Guitars web site. It's not that dark, it's cherry. Very Happy

Saw my all time favorite band friday..
by DeanBELAIREguy on Wed Jun 01, 2005 12:57 pm
i saw Social Distortion and my chemical romance firday night... what an excellent concert... social d put on an amazing show... the crowd mix was anywhere from 10 to 50 years old.. i even took a couple of turns in the mosh pit.. although my back feels it now...lol.. any other social d fans out there?? my chemical romance was pretty good.. kinda reminded me of a "punkish" The Cure...
OK, my camera sucks
by Dischord on Wed Jun 01, 2005 1:22 pm
so here are some pics of the best concert I've ever attended...I feel like a turd for sharing someone else's pics, but my cam ROYALLY sucks!! I believe many of the DOA will attest to that fact...my cam is legendary for it's rancidity...

Behemoth opened the madness

Image

The gruesome twosome headlining the show (can we PLEASE put a Dean in that man's hand...hell he plays solos for almost every underground metal band that records in his studio! AND he produces those acts too! To name a few contributions, he has been a full fledged member of King Diamond, writing, producing, and playing lead guitar since late 1984, after the breakup of Mercyful Fate and guitarist Floyd Constantine was fired from the band. In 1993 he was accredited as a full fledged member of Death, playing on the album Individual Thought Patterns alongside Gene Hoglan, Steve DiGiorgio and Chuck Schuldiner and breaking as close to mainstream success as Death would ever have with the song The Philosopher, producing and soloing occasionally for Evergrey, and also At the Gates. I know there is more but my brain hurts from all the bs I've had to do lately...)

Image

OK, Nile, signed Dean artists...and the worst band of the night...just hated their live sound, was very muddy and you couldn't make out a lot of what they were playing. They did have the coolest guitars though...as the singer played a Z to match this ML!

And I have no pics of Black Dahlia Murder, the second best band of the night...they kicked ass and had a great sound, interacted with the crowd and put on a great show, though they all look like rejects from That Seventies Show hahaha...great band!

All these bands rock, however I think Nile is more of a band to hear on CD than live. Behemoth really surprised the hell out of me that night, I'd never heard anything from them before and they absolutely kick ass! But up against Black Dahlia and the King, well they were outclassed on stage is all. Or upstaged...but these guys I'd see when they headline! And Black Dahlia too of course...and naturally I want to see King D. again!

Oooh, and can you say Mercyful Fate? In his set the King performed Come to the Sabbath and closed out the night with EVIL!!!

Bad company concert thursday night
by j.arledge on Thu Jun 02, 2005 3:34 am
yep, bad company with vallejo and ember tomarrow night. Bad company isn't exactly my thing but i figured what the hell. Vallejo and ember are sort of heavier rock, the kind that is on like the top 50 chart. Kind of hard to explaine but anyways i love to go to these concerts, it exposes you to different music and you get to see kind of what its like to play for a large audience, plus gear set ups and all the other guitar related things.

they have had 3 major rock concerts that went to so far which isn't bad considering the size of my town and lack of a decent rock station (well up until recently ) but regaurdless my town is about 90,000 probably less but between 84.000 and 90.

New Broadcaster - Mary Kaye style and Oh So Sweet!!!
by Mike9 on Thu Jun 02, 2005 10:03 pm
Well I rolled another one off the line today - LOL Laughing Twisted Evil This is a Mary Kaye style Broadcaster I built with a one piece Swamp Ash body finished in a succulent Fender Blond Nitro. This body has a killer ring to it and it's only 1-1/2" thick so it's a dream to play. It is outfitted with luxurious gold hardware including neck pup cover. The pickups are custom wound Alnico II's and they can sound as sweet as honey, or as crisp as a right cross from Sugar Ray. Electronics are Fender - 4-way switch, volume (w/custom filter), a "no load" tone pot and Electro Socket jack. The neck is Warmoth (of course) in killer flame Anigre with the nicest Pao Ferro fretboard I've seen yet. It sports 6150 stainless steel frets, a Tusq nut and the tuners are Grover mini lockers. This is one of the nicest ones I've built yet Wink

Colour scheme
by Anonymous on Fri Jun 03, 2005 10:08 am
Hi!
I'm going to purchase a ML 79F but I still havent decided the colour yet.
I want it to be the most similar as possible to the ML DIME FBD so should I go for the Brazillia Burst or Cherry Burst?
I know the FBD is Brazillia Burst but the 79F's pictures of the same colour look a lot darker and more brownish...

Oh, and BTW, should I place an EMG 81 or a Dimebucker on the bridge? Which one has more crunch?

Please help me out on this...

I have found a hamer studio custom body and neck for sale. its a good price through a liquidation company. It has schaller tuners, no pickups, needs bridge, has all knobs. Its a USA made hamer, in a 59 sunburst. First how much does it cost to re set th neck? Thats the main thing I need to know. I could get some 59 seymours to put in it just like the stock hamer is. Any answers or advice?
Need Help: Wierd sound....
by jade on Sat Jun 04, 2005 12:40 am
alright..I've got an Ibanez RG320dx and there's something that's been bothering me about it for a while now. When I'm playing the higher notes (especially on the high e string) the sound coming out of the amp is not smooth and clear, but instead it sounds like it's "pulsating" or cutting in and out (but not completely out) very rapidly. It doesn't really happen when I'm on the neck pickup, but it's very distinct when I'm playing through the bridge. If anyone understands this, do you have any idea's that will fix it? Electronic/Wiring/Pickup problem maybe? I've checked and set the intonation, thinking that might be the problem, but it didn't help a bit...

Thanks in advance.

MMMARSHALL Questions
by TheOnlyFactor on Sun Jun 05, 2005 9:09 am
Ok I know atleast one of you on here has to know about Marshall Amps and their value and deals and all that. So my boss has a PILE of old Marshall stuff and wants to sell me some of it. I have a MG100HDFX head right now. I paid about $600 for it with a 4X12 cab.

He has a 100-watt Marshall head JCM800 2203 power tubes: KT88 (which are basically expensive 6550s) for sale for $350.

Question 1 is: Is that a good deal? Should I go for it?
Question 2 is: What does the head I currently have retail for. I can only find it with the cab package. Or more importantly, what would I be able to fetch for it since I only need one head? It's BRAND NEW. I've only cranked it twice.

Thanks in advance

Rock School
by lets_smurf on Sun Jun 05, 2005 3:30 pm
I just heard about a new documentary called "Rock School", about a chain of schools originated in Philly that teaches kids ages 12-17 how to rock out. Apparently the founder of the school was once a wannabe rock star, and is now teaching the kids how to be true rock stars. I saw a clip of the movie on tv, showing one of the students playing guitar, and he was absolutely amazing. I think he was playing EVH, but im not sure. Unfortunately, I live in a small town, and with the movie only playing in 'select' theaters, I will probably never see it. Have any of you all seen it? Going to see it? I tihnk it looks pretty cool, let me know what you all think.

Korina Cherry Sunburst Z
by Faust on Mon Jun 06, 2005 3:25 am
This is a rare find. It is a Czech made Korina Z with a Cherry Sunburst finish and a really dark somewhat cranberry back. I just got this re-strung and am dialing in the action on it. It sounds and plays killer. The pickups on it are really hot.. sound a lot like Duncan Distortions.

No sunshine today.. so indoor pics only... I'll get a better shot of it one of these days.

Big thanks to Bri54 for hooking me up with this baby!

I just HAVE to say this
by Dischord on Mon Jun 06, 2005 3:52 am
OK, recently I've noticed Dime fever around here, and I also noticed a HIGH influx of Washburns in your sigs, and have seen how a lot of you guys are all preaching over in the Dime Tribute forum about how most of us over here don't care about Dime and yada yada yada...alright here goes

My favorite guitarists are:
Chuck Schuldiner - played BC Rich
Andy LaRocque - played BC Rich, now Caparison
Alex Skolnick - ok, this guy plays a lot of things
Chris Broderick - you know, I have no clue what he plays...lol

My favorite guitars are:
DEAN POINTIES

Do you know why?
Any clues?
I went through the little phase of wanting to play what my idols played, I bought a mother of pearl BC Rich Mockingbird with a scalloped neck, 24 frets, Floyd Rose (not the licensed crappo copy), and Duncan Pearly Gates pups in it, with the MOP Diamond inlays. It was a 1988 NJ Series to be exact. That guitar got SOME play time, but not much because I hate scalloped necks and I hate Floyd Roses, something I learned the hard way.

I worked my ass off in my youth to buy my first guitar, a HONDO EXPLORER, because it was better than that crappy Fender Squier that was in my price range and it lasted me for years, it's still around here somewhere collecting dust these days because all the electronics in it are fried, it needs refretted, and the pups are shot, it IS a 1981 after all...

I needed a replacement axe, and I tried out BC Riches, I tried out Epiphone Explorers, I tried out a Washburn Iceman Paul Stanley signature, and I tried out a James Hetfield signature ESP flying V (white) only to buy a DEAN VX...not because some rock star played one, but because I saw it, liked how it looked, played it, and couldn't part with it...it became my grail guitar...

Nothing ever played like it until I got my hands on my first ML...

And nowadays it's a Czech Korina V that holds that spot, but I doubt it'll ever get unseated, it's TOO frippin SWEET A PLAYER

And the funny thing is...

The only person I know besides BTMN, BLOYD, and HANS IWEARLEIDERHOSEN who plays a korina V guitar is...
ME
And as far as I know I'm the only MOFO on here who even LOVES the hourglass inlays...

And the series I headstock, which I've been begging for in a custom Dean since 2002, April in fact, when I FIRST JOINED...

As far as how I feel about Dime...
CFH was a good album
VDOP was great
Everything after that was lacking
And I've not heard anything before it
I did not LOVE his music, but he had some killer riffs and tunes
Only thing I loved about Dime was his taste in guitars, though I hate the Floyds...

Sorry, I needed to vent~!

EDIT
Forgot to add, if Dean would ever make a pointy that any of my idols played, I'd buy that, because I love the pointies! If Dean would ever make a Mark Briody Swamp Thing V, I'd buy one! But I wouldn't buy it because of Mark, though he's a great guy and his band rips...

I'd buy it because Dean makes the best guitars out there, point blank. And that's the ONLY reason I ever buy a guitar...because I like how it plays!

If you haven't already check out some old Testament stuff (Eric Petersen is ALSO a Dean artist). You said you like all kinds of guitar music, well Alex Skolnick, who played lead guitar for them for many years, was an accomplished jazz player by the age of 18, which is why he was recruited. In short he wails!

Songs to check out:
Return to Serenity
Souls of Black
Practice What You Preach
Alone in the Dark (he was 18 on this one)
Over the Wall (another one he was 18 on)
Trial By Fire
The Ballad
Nightmare (Coming Back to You)
The Legacy
Electric Crown

Just to name a few

I know there are other Testament fans here, spacebeer is a good one for starters!

Gotta love Texas!
by Lurker on Tue Jun 07, 2005 1:49 am
Just thought I'ld share this email 'forward' with my Texan and Texan-at-heart, brothers and sisters!! Natives and transplants alike! Wink

Subject: Fw: Things A Texan knows.

Here are some good facts about Texas.

Nobody asked for them, but here are some little known Texas facts. I know ya'll just can't wait to read 'em!

1. Beaumont to El Paso: 742 miles
2. Beaumont to Chicago: 770 miles
3. El Paso is closer to California than to Dallas

4. World's first rodeo was in Pecos... July 4, 1883.

5. The Flagship Hotel in Galveston is the only hotel in North America built over water.

6. The Heisman Trophy was named after John William Heisman who was the first full-time coach for Rice University in Houston.

Brazoria County has more species of birds than any other area in North America.

Aransas Wildlife Refuge is the winter home of North America's only remaining flock of whooping cranes.

Jalapeno jelly originated in Lake Jackson in 1978.

The worst natural disaster in U.S. history was in 1900 caused by a hurricane in which over 8000 lives were lost on Galveston Island.

The first word spoken from the moon, July 20, 1969, was "Houston."
King Ranch is larger than Rhode Island

Tropical Storm Claudette brought a US. rainfall record of 43" in 24 hours in and around Alvin in July 1979.

Texas is the only state to enter the U.S. by TREATY, instead of by annexation. (This allows the Texas flag to fly at the same height as the US flag.)

A Live Oak tree near Fulton is estimated to be 1500 years old.

Caddo Lake is the only natural lake in the state.

Dr Pepper was invented in Waco in 1885. There is no period after Dr in Dr Pepper.

Texas has had six capital cities:

1. Washington-on-the-Brazos

2. Harrisburg
3. Galveston
4. Velasco
5. West Columbia
6. Austin

The Capitol Dome in Austin is the only dome in the U.S which is taller than the Capitol Building in Washington D.C. (by 7 feet). The name Texas comes from the Hasini Indian word "tejas" meaning friends. Tejas is not Spanish for Texas.

The State animal is the Armadillo. (An interesting bit of trivia about the armadillo is they always have four babies! They have one egg, which splits into four, and they either have four males or four females. Well...I thought it was interesting anyway!)

The first domed stadium in the U.S. was the Astrodome in Houston.

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS - TEXAS STYLE
People here in Texas have trouble with all those “shalls” and “shall nots” in the ten Commandments. Folks here just aren't used to talking in those terms. So, some folks out in west Texas got together and translated the "King James" into "King Ranch" language: Ten Commandments, cowboy style.

Cowboy's Ten Commandments posted on the wall at Cross Trails Church in Fairlie, Texas.

(1) Just one God.
(2) Honor yer Ma & Pa.
(3) No telling tales or gossipin'.
(4) Git yourself to Sunday meeting.
(5) Put nothin' before God.
(6) No foolin' around with another fellow's gal.
(7) No killin'.
(Cool Watch yer mouth.
(9) Don't take what ain't yers.
(10) Don't be hankerin' for yer buddy's stuff

Now that's kinda plain an' simple don't ya think?

Y'all have a good Day. You hear?
A sad day indeed!

Question for the string afficionados out there
by Dischord on Tue Jun 07, 2005 12:56 pm
Alright, the shop here in town I always buy my strings from has decided they will no longer carry my beloved SIT's...and once they're out of the SIT's that will be it. To top that off, the only SIT's they have are one set of 8's and 9-52's...neither appeal to my flavor...

They only have 8's and 9's in Dean Markleys, and I hate Ernie Ball...

Now the DO have my size in the Dean Markley Blue Steels, but I've never used Blue Steel personally, though I knew a bassist who swore by them. So do tell guys, are the Blue Steel worth my hard earned green?

Anybody used this? I got it and gave it to my cousin because I have attention deficit...

Look an airplane! Shocked

Laughing

Anyways... I am a total noodler improviser guitar time waster and I never really learn songs anymore... so I gave it to my cousin who is learning guitar and he loves it! It is cool because it shows the tabs and plays them for you with a cheez-whizzo synthesizer... actually kind of fun to listen to... like hearing your favorite songs turned into cell phone ring tones.

What I like about it is that what you see is what you hear.... unlike a lot of tabs where you play them and they sound like complete BS, which leads you to checking it over and over just to find out that they transposed that song on a Friday afternoon... which leaves me figuring it out by ear anyways.

It's pretty cool.... worth a look.

Anybody else used it?

FBD ML VS. RAZORBACK TWO TONE
by \.../_METAL_\.../ on Wed Jun 08, 2005 9:10 pm
I want to sell my guitar that I own now and get a Dean, I can't decide which to get, a razorback two tone or a FBD ML. Here are the pros and cons. (razorback two tone) PROS, looks awsome, my friends say I should get it, it has a Floyde Rose, it has good pickups. CONS, if I get some of those TINY scratches on it they'll show better against the all black paint, the tips might chip if hit on something, there aren't any reveiws to read on it, more expensive, I would have to buy the case separetly, one with a better paint job might come out next year. (FBD ML) PROS, looks awsome, it has a Floyde Rose, it has good pickups, comes with case, scratches would be harder to see, wouldn't chip as easy, comes with a tribute picture, it's cheaper, has that awsome crest. CONS, it might be a limited thing unavailable in a few years, the sticker might come off or look cheap. That's all i could think of, your opinions would really help. Thanks in advance.
Dean FBD
by slaytanic on Wed Jun 08, 2005 9:33 pm
Whats the deal with these FBD guitars? Ive been seeing more and more of these things being sold already that have problems with them. Theres 2 on ebay right now that are damaged. Mainly truss rod problems. I hope someone from Dean can answer as to what the possible cause of these problems are. I ordered me a Dime O Flame and cant wait to get it but as Im seeing these problems arise with the FBD guitars, I wonder if its going to be the same with the Flames. Not saying that all of them are going to be like this, but it kinda makes you think of what the quality is. Maybe just a bad batch, I dont know, but considering theres only one batch (I think) thats been released so far, what are the rest going to be like??

KARMA IS REAL
by BLOODROOT on Thu Jun 09, 2005 3:11 am
"Girls Gone Wild" impresario gets blackmailed

Yes, it appears Joe Francis, the "brains" and "money" behind GGW, is being blackmailed with a home-made grox tape stolen from his mansion during a burglary last year.

Well, as they say, karma can be a bitch.

Girls Gone Wild auteur Joe Francis may be in for a taste of his own medicine thanks to a stolen tape showing him in a very compromising (and uncomfortable) position.

Francis is so desperate to suppress the freaky footage—which insiders say features the party boy being humiliated with a large grox toy—that he's been ponying up to keep it from going public.

I guess karma's not the only bitch around here. Well done, Freaky Francis.

What in the HELL is this thing!?
Something strange
by Dischord on Thu Jun 09, 2005 1:00 pm
Alright, I was asked so I auditioned for the band NASTY LICKS...now anyone who knows me knows that when it comes to bluesy rock, blues, stuff like that I've never played it and I simply couldn't do the blues if you paid me! But they kept bugging me (well Pete did) so I auditioned to see how I'd do...and they not only asked me to come back, but have made me a full fledged member Shocked

All I did was follow Pete and improv where they asked me to lead Embarassed

That and do a RIPPING rendition of NIB for them Laughing

So looks like I need to sharpen up my Joe Perry chops (yep folks, that's right, Sweet Emotion is in the setlist) which I didn't even know I had, brush up on some Bad Company and AC/DC licks, and give these guys a hand...and I've never played about 99% of any of their setlist... Shocked

I thought I struggled along at the audition, but we WERE playing the songs after a minute or two for me to catch the rhythm...

I'll keep you posted Shocked

Ohh yes, that was the most worried I've ever been at an audition because they showed me the setlist (which also now includes Born to be Wild hahaha) and I was just like...oh god...I've never played anything except NIB on here!! But I made it through even a very ripping bluesy rendition of Jumpin Jack Flash...

Be afraid...be VERY afraid...and the bassist is the uber musician, plays EVERY style on EVERY instrument...is damn good...and plays a RICKY...but fell in love with my white V79...so I, being the good samaritan, passed along Dave's info (that's B&T for you newbies)
Tab Question
by pcdoc on Thu Jun 09, 2005 1:15 pm
OK. how do you play a tab when it shows X's?

1 x 1
2 x 2
2 x 2
0 x 0

Am I correct in saying It is a strum, but it's not played out.
Would you palm mute, or how exactly would you do this? Which hand?

Thanks!

ML 79F, ML FBD or Dime-O-Flame?
by Anonymous on Thu Jun 09, 2005 11:19 pm
Ok guys, I know I'm a newbie around here. I also know I've been asking a lot of questions about these guitars, but the thing is... as I am from Portugal, I need to have one of these shipped to me without testing. In fact, I never tried a Dean before (I currently own a Hamer) and therefore I am really in doubt on what I should buy and from were.

Any hints regarding these three models and/or places where I can mail order them to Europe will be greatly apreciated!

BTW, I play rhythm guitar and want to buy a power-axe with a floyd. Dean seems to be an obvious choice concerning price/quality/looks.

Of course, I am also a Dime fan so the ML shape realy gets me going...

Please, make your comments on this!
Case Suggestion for Exotica FM

Hey everyone,

My first post here. I just bought an Exotica FM and was wondering if anyone could give me some good suggestions on cases that would fit it.

I didn't want to buy just any random case and then it not fit or be a good fit. Or it not be a good protective case.

I am looking for a good hardshell case first but I would also like to get a soft case as well.

hehe.. of all the luck..

a good friend of mine entered in a Nokia Destination Finals sweepstakes.. and won the grand prize.. a trip for 2 to the NBA Finals..

so we are going to the Finals 2nd game, on Sunday, in San Antonio.. sweet..

since it's so close, we are driving instead of flying (he has a medical condition that makes flying hard on him).. Nokia dropped the value of the prize so that it makes it easier to pay the taxes on it, later..

but, we are staying in the Hilton Palacio Del Rio.. pretty cool..

well, it's free..

kinda.. we have to pay for all food/drinks, etc.. and the taxes..

hopefully, we will sit close enough to actually see what is going on..

HERE ARE THE LINKS TO THE OLD ONES . NOW THAT WE HAVE ALOT MORE MEMBERS ON HERE I FIGURED NOW WOULD BE A GOOD TIME TO THROW OUT THE IDEA TO EVERYONE AGAIN.

good or bad idea?
by dimebagcfh on Sat Jun 11, 2005 4:56 am
just wondering if its a good idea if you have multiple inputs on a amp head to let others use the inputs while your playing.
i used to do this with my crate head. will it affect the head later on down the road or cause problems?

Ok so many people have told me i sound like zakk so i figured i would check out bls.so i borrowed some bls cds from a freind.Well i guess some of his style does sound like my stuff.were about the same age and have some influences that r similar.untill the past couple days I havent really listened to any bls except what ive heard on this site.I like the hot rodded classic rock feel they got going and zakk can shred theres no doubt about that!!its not really music i would listin to though (not putting it down!!)the vocals sound to axl rose for my taste and ive allready spent a bunch of time on bluesy metal riffs and am currently moving away from that style.I think zakk has done a great job on his own and kudos to him for trying to sing!!(lord knows i cant sing!!)If you like bluesy metal BLS is just what the doctor ordered!! ....who wishes that slipknot would get rid of those retarded masks and maybe 30-40 of their bandmates? (a little sarcasm on that last part.) I mean I like the band and all but are they really that ugly of guys that they have to wear those things, and I don't hear in their music why they have so many people in their band. and if you are gonna try to start a fight with me over this, don't even bother trying cause we have established that that is childish. I am just putting in my opinion.

OK. I GOT 3 NEW TUNES MY BAND IS RECORDING THIS WEEK. WE DONT HAVE A DRUMMER RIGHT NOW BUT ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF TRYING 2 DUDES OUT . ONE THIS WEEK, ONE NEXT WEEK. IN THE MEAN TIME WE DECIDED TO TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT. CHECK OUT THIS TUNE HERE WITH A DRUM MACHINE AND GIVE IT A LISTEN. TELL ME WHAT U THINK.

"ALL THE LIES"
http://bloodroot.fanspace.com/BLOODROOT/ALL%20THE%20LIES.mp3

GOAL WAS FOR RADIO FORMAT SO THE SONG IS 4:30 OR SO. NOT ALOT OF ROOM FOR A GUITAR SOLO SO UNFORTUANELY IT IS SHORT. Razz "THAT IS WHAT SHE SAID" GIVE IT A WIRL. HOPEFULLY YOU'LL ENJOY IT AS MUCH AS I DO. IF NOT THAT IS KEWL TOO. CHECK IT OUT AND LET ME KNOW YOUR TRUE FEELINGS.
MORE bands in the Ft. Hood area
by Dischord on Sun Jun 12, 2005 10:08 am
OK, first Hoochie...
OK, if you like Creed, Tool, and STP covers, then this is your band. They do a damn good job covering these bands but simply not my speed. Plus they stand on stage and neglect to work the crowd. And their guitar choices lack something to be desired unless you go by the handle Lon on here Laughing
Or Ponch...if you like blaze orange SG's...

Next up, Junior...
OK, now I'll go over the setlist first to give you a general idea before I give the overall review, as their setlist was not really what I listen to...
In the setlist were:
Talk Dirty to Me
I Want You to Want Me
I Think I'm Turning Japanese
Dear Pen!s (yep, the Rodney Carrington song)
something from David Alan Coe, but so punked out I couldn't figure out which song
They also integrated the lyrics to Sweet Home Alabama in their Turning Japanese rendition which was killer!
I Wanna Be Sedated
Ice Ice Baby
some Snoop Doggy Dog song
that annoying as hell BECAUSE I GOT HIGH song
a bunch of originals
And some Marijuana song...

Now about the band...the setlist wasn't all that great, though some of the songs were great, but the setlist doesn't do the band ANY justice...I'll explain

These guys were HILARIOUS on stage. They worked the crowd, gave away free beer and beer paraphernalia courtesy of Budweisr...I mean these guys were rocking out and telling jokes and pulling off crazy antics all at the same time! It was like a stand up comedian band! I don't think I EVER laughed so hard in my whole life...
Especially when they started rotating the lyrics from:
I wanna be sedated to:
I wanna see you naked Shocked Laughing

Definitely a great live band, even if their setlist isn't all it's cracked up to be...and when they broke into Dear Pen!s I thought I was going to fall out of my chair...hahahaha
Original Floyd on MLF?
by gottabetweed on Sun Jun 12, 2005 3:46 pm
Will an original Floyd Rose fit a 79 series MLF, or is additional routing os other modification necessary??

Thanks for your help.
DR Black Beauties....
by clmazza7 on Sun Jun 12, 2005 4:16 pm
Has anyone tried a set? I figured it was just a bunch of crap... coated strings, extra life... blah blah blah.

Well, after receiving a fresh set from Joe (RedFlameJetCaddy), I promptly strung my SG Supreme with a set (It looks great with the color scheme on this guitar Wink ).

Totally cool strings with great response and tone. It thought the coating would in some way hamper the tone... not the case! Definitely a different feel... smooth I suppose.

Anyway... if you like DR's (I DO!) throw a set on your axe. I think you'll like 'em!

Thanks Joe!

Saw Judas Priest and Queensryche last night
by transblueZ on Sun Jun 12, 2005 5:49 pm
The show was pretty good. Seats were better than I had thought just looking at the plans. Queensryche (not one of my favorite bands) soundeed pretty decent, except the voals didnt cut through the mix well. THey played Queen of the Ryche and Lady Wore Black from the 1st EP, and he can still hit those notes....was pretty impressive. They didnt play Silent Lucidy or Jet City Woman....I found that to be odd...I kept saying....damn, and they still have 2 more songs they have to play before I can see Priest

Halford's voice was very impressive indeed....but they also suffered from some sound problems. Someof the tunes I could hear everything very nicely....some it just sounded very muddy. Not sure if they use a different tuning or anything with the new release...but that HellRider tune sounded REalllllllly bad. Also...I could see the guy with the laptop doing the teleprompting for Halford......a few of the tunes he crouched right in from of the thing and didn't move......pretty cheezy there (Very Ozzy-esque)
They played Exciter, Beyond the Realms of Death, Victim of Changes, and the accoustic version of Diamonds and Rust for the older stuff. Living After Midnight, Breaking the Law, Metal Gods, Hell Bent for Leather, Hellion/Electric Eye, Riding on the Wind, and Got Another thing Coming from their middle era. And Painkiller, Turbo, Touch of Evil, Hell Rider, Judas Rising, Deal With The Devil, and Revolution
Surprise tune was hearing Exciter.....bummer that they skipped the Sentinel (my favorite Priest tune) and nothing from Defenders of the Faith even (was expected at least Love Bites)
Dean Vendetta 1.0 - Any opinions?
by new2you on Sun Jun 12, 2005 7:36 pm
Anyone own or played a Vendetta 1.0 and care to share your thoughts? I have about $250 to spend on a guitar (just on the guitar) and that's in the right range and looks like a pretty good deal. I can't play it before I buy it (can't find one locally). I'm just getting started playing. I've been learning on an acoustic and want to get an electric as well.

Any other sub-$250 recommendations are welcome.

THANKS!
can't say enough about Deans...
by radioheadhead on Sun Jun 12, 2005 11:24 pm
When asked by a beginner the other day what kind of guitar he should look at, I immediately said DEAN!! I got a performer DSE ~2 years ago, and since I was a beginner I technically overpaid a little, and settled for one with some finish issues (because someone had scratched it, not a factory mistake). Despite this, this guitar was worth every penny!! They have a great neck for beginners, and a comfortable profile for laying around on the couch and playing. I absolutely love my DSE!!!

I recently got a USA hardtail, so the DSE is getting ignored a little. Hope she isn't angry at me!!

OK...here's something for you to think about
by Dischord on Mon Jun 13, 2005 5:19 am
I jammed with Nasty Licks today...the audition was only with Pete and the bassist (Bob). They have three sets laid out, and the first set I was kinda rough but I smoothed out during the second and smoked during the third, though the third set was more my speed (NIB, Paranoid, You've Got Another Thing Coming).

Also, July 4th at Belton Lake we're doing our first show, however I will be sitting out one set and an additional song (I don't do country lol, and I DEFINITELY won't be playing Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy... Shocked )

Now the setlist we have includes but is not limited to:

Jumping Jack Flash (Rolling Stones)
Paint it Black (Rolling Stones)
Sweet Emotion (Aerosmith)
I Just Wanna Make Love to You
I think it's called Without Love (Doobie Bros)
Hey Joe (Hendrix)
Voodoo Chile (SRV version)
Wicked Ways (Santana)
Live Wire (AC/DC)
Turn the Page (hybrid Seger/Metallica)
Simple Man (Skynrd)
Sweet Home Alabama (Skynrd)
The Breeze (Skynrd)
Mary Had a Little Lamb (SRV)
Born to be Wild (Steppenwolf)
NIB (Black Sabbath)
Paranoid (Black Sabbath)
You Got Another Thing Comin (Judas Priest)
Feel Like Makin Love
Cocaine (Clapton)
Gloria/Inna Gadda Da Vida/Suzy Q

OK, now I know there is more but I can't remember them off the top of my head...

Songs in the air to play:
Thunderstruck (AC/DC)
Crazy Train (Ozzy)
Children of the Grave (Black Sabbath)
Strokin' (Clarence Carter)
Cover of the Rollin' Stone (Dr. Hook)
Fairies Wear Boots (Black Sabbath)
Wherever I May Roam (Metallica)
A Secret Place (Megadeth)
Painkiller (Judas Priest)
The Ripper (Judas Priest but MF version Razz)
One (Metallica)
Seek and Destroy (Metallica)
I Think I'm Turning Japanese
The Stroke (yea, STROKE ME STROKE ME...STROKE...hahahaha)

And again, there's more but my memory sucks...just to give you some idea

how can you safely remove paint from the head of a bass?
by devilmonkeydad on Thu Jun 16, 2005 12:01 am
a friend of mine was given a bass and a former owner(with oatmeal 4 brains) had painted the headstock silver and encrusted it with fake jewels. in the process of removing the jewels, he scraped off enough of the paint to reveal a GIBSON logo.

So, any tips as to what he might use to safely remove the silver paint?

haven't seen the bass myself yet, but I gave him the Gibson serial number data so we can determine the year it was manufactured. he doesn't think the #'s match up with the post 1977 serials, so we think he may have a vintage bass on his hands. should know tomorrow. will post a pic if possible. thanks.

an idea about an amp
by j.arledge on Thu Jun 16, 2005 4:19 am
at one of my local pawn shops they have a crate stealth 50 watt tube combo. I could get it for a pertty reasonable price and i had a idea and i need to know if it is just stupid or not.

I was thinking about getting taking the amp itself out of the cab it is in and making it a 50 watt head . I was thinking of somthing along the lines of this for a cab.

http://images.instrumentexchange.com/zoom-photo.asp?img=http://mi-images.instrumentexchange.com/images/photos/b_7515413736277_1.jpg

a thick clear plexi glass cab, i would probably mount some sort of fanning system in the cab to make sure the tubes dont get too hot for the plastic but let me know you ideas. I know some of you have done simular projects.
Painting project and some funny details
by TheOnlyFactor on Thu Jun 16, 2005 5:39 am
So I'm having a friend refinish my W 332 for me. We're stripping it down and all that stuff you have to do. We start looking at all the electronics on it and he is amazed that the guitar even works.
He's done this plenty of times and had no problem with rewiring it and all that. He doesn't even want to touch the damn things wiring cuz he can't get a hold on what the hell they did. Guitar works fine, to his amazement.
My favorite part of the whole thing is that under the string plate...all the holes are double drilled cuz they apparently missed where they were supposed to be. So each hole is a nice figure 8. So glad the damn thin only cost me $180.

I'll post pictures of the process when I get time

Questions for the Bel Aire experts
by BobtheNuke on Thu Jun 16, 2005 6:06 pm
As you may remember I purchased a Bel Aire a few weeks back from an Ebay listing. As it turns out, it's a really nice guitar, especially for the money. It needed a bit of cleaning up and I had to get an arm for the FR, but other than that it's ready to go. I also would like to obtain the back plate and screws which are missing. No big deal, but it would make it complete.

My question would be this...what do you think it's worth? I have a friend that tried it out and loves it. I hadn't planned on selling, but he's really got the jones for it but I don't want to cheat him nor do I want to give it away if it has any real value.

I have no doubt but that it's a factory installed licensed Floyd. This one doesn't require cutting off the ball ends but they feed through the horizonal intonation adjusters. I don't know where it (the guitar) was made, but maybe someone can tell from the serial number. The paint was originally a bright white but has faded to a nice off-white "buff" where exposed...under the pickguard and other places it's still very bright. It's a 25 1/2" scale, and the tone controls are only for the middle and neck pickups, the bridge hummer only uses the volume control. It really plays great, has a very nice neck, and the pickups while appearing to be rather "thrifty" have a very nice and different bite and are very strat-like with the .010 DR Blues set I installed. Condition would be a very conservative 8.5/10. I also have no idea what year it is...as I had mentioned in the original post I know next to nothing about these models. Hopefully these pictures will provide enough information...

Thanks in advance,

Bob

Hey guys,

Im looking for a new pickup for my ML-F, and I don't know what to get since I havn't ever changed the pups in any of my guitars. Im looking for something with a natural sound, as smooth as possible, (and i doubt you can have both in the same pickup, but) and plenty of gain. Any reccomendations?

or, instead of a new pickup, would it be worth it to get an amp modeler instead?

My MILF finally complete!!!!
by sepsis311 on Mon Jun 20, 2005 12:18 am
Finally, 6 months later. I got my milf, and brought it to the shop for necessary changes.
I had a SD '59 replace the neck pup, with a pushpull tap.
I had a Bill/Becky Lawrence L500XL replace the bridge pup (no tap).
I had the bridge, nut, studs, insterts, replaced with schaller replacements. The block on the schaleller stuck out past the body, so he changed the block to a shorter one. The insert holes needed to be dowelled and redrilled, not because the bridge wouldnt fit, but because the holes were too big for the inserts from the schaller! Anyway, this guy is a pro. The guitar plays beautifully.

For all those guys that say the guitar is made of cheap mahogony...

My first Milf i had to send back was very light. Half the weight or more, of my gibson explorer. The one i got now is the same weight. Not to mention, the first guitar's neck was a little darker than the body, this one is the same shade. It plays better, and the flame top is better.

The schaller upgrade is necessary for anyone that buy's it as a serious guitar. It really felt like a toy before i dropped it off. now it feels like a true neck through, solidbody mahogony shredding machine!

http://mywebpages.comcast.net/sepsis311/milf.jpg

Also, i just put new pups in my RG7CT in case any of you are ibanez fans!

How many get "Viagra" spam despite spam filters?
by Mike9 on Mon Jun 20, 2005 3:01 am
I've been getting these particular ones for quite some time now and they are all the same, but from different senders. I tried filtering them out, but to no avail . . . till now. There is no body per se so it's a very clever setup, but in the link on each one there is a common string of numbers at the end of each link - 00202113. No matter what the URL is they all go to the same page and they all have that eight number string in common. I entered the string in my filters and they are all being deleted now.

I just thought I'd share this frustrating intrusion of privacy with anyone else suffering from the same Spam. This is the equililent of the old "Earn Big Bucks Stuffing Envelopes at Home" Scam from 20 - 30 years ago. Just one big down line of suckers . . . and we aint takin' no prisoners. Twisted Evil

Has this been asked before?
by Mac on Tue Jun 21, 2005 6:20 pm
Well i dont know if someone has asked this (or these questions before) cos im very curious to know just how it happened.

First question is regarding why Dime left Dean for Washburn Guitars.

The second is wehat caused the pantera split (maybe not the forum for this kinda question but im curious anyway) cos ive read in many magazines and such that it was Phil that caused them to split up others say it was mutual agreement, and others blame Dime for it.

Any answers?

Greetings all,

A firend of mine had a '77, '78, or '79 Dean ML. It had a great big fat neck that I liked, kinda like a big ol round comfortable a$$ on a fine woman Twisted Evil (or a late 50's Gibson). Is Dean making and models with that neck today? I have an itch for a Cadillac that I need to scratch. Cool

by Mike9 on Wed Jun 22, 2005 1:45 am
A buddy & I went to a well known music store today (Parkway Music in Clifton Pk. NY) and I took a Strat & Tele that I'd built with me to see if they might be interested in selling some of my stuff. (the big bucks are in the "Burbs") The head guy checks them out and says they are some of the best he's played - "what are you looking to get?" I tell him and he takes them to the real big boss. Time goes by and he brings them back and tells me they can't sell them. "They are better than top of the line Fenders and it would "conflict" with their Fender pricing agreement" On one hand this is a high compliment - - - on the other it's the kiss of death dealing with any store that sells Fender products. Confused

I see a website in my future. Cool

Does anyone know what the specs are on those EVO Dragsters? Woods, quality, playability, etc. They are badda$$ looking guitars, but never played one.
Thanks to Steve at BRG
by DREAD PIRATE REDBEARD on Wed Jun 22, 2005 6:10 am
I just wanted to publicly thank Steve at Blue Rock Guitars for my FBD. He gave me a great deal and was very helpful in getting me any info on them as soon as he knew, durring the long wait for its arrival. It was flawless. None of the problems that some people who got there's from MF had reported. So I urge anone buying a Dean to get it from Steve or one of the other dealers on this site. You will get vastly superior service and usually a better price than from one of the big mail order companies. I know I did.

Anyway, about the guitar, its great. The finnish is awesome. Its alot darker than the '79 MLF brazilia burst and looks alot better IMO. I'm still getting used to playing it instead of my SG but everytime I play it, I like it better and better. I dont have a huge amount of expericence with a Floyd, but everytime I dump the bar or bring it up, it comes back right in tune. The Dimebucker is awesome. I havent played one of the BL's, but I dont think there will be a need to swap out the dimebucker. Pinch harmonics come out great all over the place and it really makes the wammy bar-harmonic squeels alot easier. Lastly, here's some pics.

Tell Me About The Sarasota Standard
by frankencat on Wed Jun 22, 2005 10:40 am
The solid one - http://www.deanguitars.uk.com/electrics/sarasota_standard.htm

That pic is from the Dean UK site. I recently sold one of my other guitars to buy another Dean as a "sister" to my HT Select and have been thinking of either an Evo SS or a '79 Series - I REALLY like the Cherry Sunburst V that Kent has in his shop Smile. Anyway, I came across one of these and am intrigued. Anybody had any experiences with them? They look nice to me - even if they are not pointy Wink

One question I have is do these have the thin laminate top or do they have a full maple cap/laminate top like the HT Selects?

Pics would be cool!

Thanks -Frank
Neighbor really erk'd me last night
by pcdoc on Wed Jun 22, 2005 1:22 pm
Last year we had a vinyl fence put up and recently I built a shed, which my wife wanted vinyl siding as well. Well a family of rabbits moved in under my shed and are eating the heck out of our flowers and plants.

Now I check with the county and there are no hunting laws for rabbits, so I bought a pellet gun. I got one not powerfull enough (I found out this am when a pellet hit him and he just ran off like nothing happened).

After a week of 'hunting' th erabbits, my back yard neighbor who has this giantic deck that she can oversee the entire block see's me out there and freaks out that I have a gun. So she makes her husband come over and give me a talking to about gun and child safety. He said his wife was going to call the police, which I told him that'd be fine.

Now I can see where shooting apellet gn around kids is not a good idea, but (1) her kids were not even in her back yard, they were at my neighbors with a fence and a shed in between them, (2) I am shooting a rabbits at ground level, not into the air, and (3) It's a solid 6ft high privacy fence. Pellets are not gound to go though the fence! we can't do rabbit fencing as everything we have is vinyl and no way to attach the fencing.

Anytime I saw kids around, I would not shoot. Regardless, I do think I have the law on my side as I am enclosed in my own private property, no rabbit laws, a pretty low fps air gun (about 350-425 fps) and a huge solid fence in between yards. My direct neighbor has 3 kids and she was over when I first go tit and we showed her and she had no problem. Now my wife and I both feel we are totally gonna be watched now.

Sorry for the rant, but it really got under my skin that someone would just jump to conclusions and to assume that we are bad or violent people.

any thoughts?

Nothing like Catastrophic Drive Failure to start your day
by Mike9 on Wed Jun 22, 2005 4:16 pm
Yup that's how my day started - booted up and *poof* all data gone Mad Not only is my primary drive toast, but my back up and both IDE channels as well - what ever went took everything with it. Glad I built a little machine last week out of spare parts. The drives are in warranty, but everything on them is gone. Sad

Those new Macs I saw yesterday are looking mighty fetching. They are so cool I believe I could be seduced to the dark side.

After checking those new Mac prices I ordered a new Motherboard for $32 - such a savings Milton!!! Twisted Evil

Heading to Europe in 12 hours
by Jag Panzer on Wed Jun 22, 2005 10:58 pm
Packing up my car and driving to Denver early early tommorow morning for the long flight to Germany.

I'm excited about the show. It actually sold out. I've never heard of a large festival selling out, but this one has. We've got a mid-day 45 minute slot. I'm looking forward to seeing Dio, he's playing a few hours after us.

I'm taking my 3 Deans and a photographer friend of mine is coming along. So lots of Dean live photos!

I'm hoping I get a nice amp to play on (please...Engl....Engl)

Disturbed... and brilliant.

This guy plays like he is on fire.

Highly recommended if you enjoy very bizarre and technical guitar music without vocals. This CD is on it's 3rd spin now... and I am nowhere near done absorbing it.

He has done some great stuff and some total garbage. This is great from beginning to end!

The Tele From Hell is Finished - WooHoo!!!!
by Mike9 on Fri Jun 24, 2005 8:00 pm
I've been getting a lot of repair work lately so finishing this has been slow, but it's done!!! It's a one piece mahogany body shot in Fiesta Red with matching CBS headstock. The neck I re-profiled the back & refretted with jumbos and it sports Gotoh tuners, roller trees and graphite nut. The pickup in the flame bridge is a DiMarzio Tone Zone - (man I love these) - & Graphtech saddles. Output is via single push/pull volume pot with coil splitting into a switchcraft/electrosocket jack combo. This thing sounds amazing and pretty much goes from spank to shred just from the volume control (has a coule of wiring mods too Wink ) Body is contoured where it counts and with strings through the body the mahogany resonates nicely Cool

Razorback release
by 666boy666 on Fri Jun 24, 2005 10:51 pm
Hello, I was wondering if anyone had information about the razorback's release date?

I had one on back order with musician's friend set to arrive on the 16th of this month, now all of a sudden the date is in October sometime. All musician's friend had to say was they could only go by what dean told them.

So if anyone knows why such a gross miscalculation, it would be greatly appreciated Very Happy

HOW WILL THE RAZORBACKS SOUND
by \.../_METAL_\.../ on Sun Jun 26, 2005 9:56 pm
Okay, I want to get a two tone and have been saving up for a long time. The thing I'm worried about is the sound being to bassy and just not being able to get a good clean tone. Everyone I have talked to that's played one says if you want to play music like Pantera (which I do) then the guitar is for you, but im concerned about not getting a good Metallica or Megadeth tone. I want a very versitile guitar, I'm also considering a fixer-upper Gibson flying V with one of those weird tremelos(if I can find one like that) and giving it a sweet paintjob even thogh I'm not so good at painting. Any thoughts I would sure appreciate it.

amp cab project
by j.arledge on Sun Jun 26, 2005 11:00 pm
well i stumbled on to an old fender pa cab with 3 10 inch speakers in it and got it for 10$. I was wondering what you all though about what to do with it.? I thought that 10 inch speakers were most used for lighter stuff and that was gernally what they were meant to handle, like jazz and blues stuff. Also how could i wire up 3 10 inch speakers for 4 8 or 16 ohms, could i miss-match ohms and run them in a different way one from speaker to the next to achive this.

Or

do you think it would just be easier to cut out 2 of the holes bigger to fit 2x12 inch speakers. This is kind of what i thought about in the first place but cutting out larger circules may be a little work.

I will post a picture of it shortly.

Report and photos from European festial (Bang Your Head)
by Jag Panzer on Mon Jun 27, 2005 5:02 pm
My band and I arrived in Germany with all the usual travel problems - delayed flights and lost luggage. We made it to the festival on Friday afternoon and I got to check out a few bands.

Major storm and flooding Friday night! Many people had to be evacuated. There was a possibility of the day 2 of the show being cancelled. A mixing board and several amps and speakers were ruined by the storm. Luckily they got everything fixed and the show finally started after a 4 hour delay. Every band got to play, but most had to cut their sets short.

Here is a photo of me and some bandmates in the morning at the festival. I have been wearing Dean shirts and the part few festivals. I had about 40 people comment on it. Many people told me about Schmier (bassist for Destruction) and his black Dean.

Image

On our flight to Germany I sat in front of the drummer for the band Vicious Rumors. He mentioned to me that their lead guitarist (Ira Black) is not only an endorser but that he’s getting a Dean signature model. They played a couple of slots before us, so I was able to catch some of their set. Sure enough – he played all Deans! Very cool. I saw a black V and what looks like a redwood USA ML. Here is a shot of the ML.

Getting ready to go onstage, here is a crowd shot. Lots of people!

Speaker shopping
by douchenozzle on Mon Jun 27, 2005 7:15 pm
Ive been having problems with the stock speaker in my marshall combo, so I thought a new one would help my tone a bit. I need a 12" speaker that is really bassy, but not muddy. I use lots of treble, and lots of bass, so I need it to deliver both of those really well. Anybody have any ideas?

Shark Attacks off Florida Coast
by BLOYD on Tue Jun 28, 2005 5:38 pm
I grew up in Miami and used to go deep sea diving every other week. I feel like I grew up on a boat and at the beach. That was the great part about growing up in Florida. Wink

On various diving trips I can't tell you how many times I've had a close call with a shark and/or some other sea predator...In some weird way I had always felt fortunate....luck of the card I guess.

My LAST visit to the ocean was on a diving trip where I had an up close and personal encounter with an aggressive 12 foot Hammerhead. I decided then that I'd rolled the dice enough.

Unfortunately, some people don't have the extended luck that I had. Two attacks this week off the Florida coast.

'79 series = under appreciated!
by Jag Panzer on Thu Jun 30, 2005 3:23 am
The past few weeks I've had the opportunity to check out lots of guitars.

Players guitars. The special instruments that guys have been using for years and won't ever part with.

A few of these were Flying V's. I can't help but compare them to my '79 V.

Maybe my '79 is somehow special, but it blew away every Gibson V is saw. Better balance, better finish, faster neck, etc. Just a better guitar.

I always liked my '79, but I figured I'd play one until I got a TC V. I'm not so sure anymore.... Of course I'd take a Time Capsule, but I could make this '79 my permanent choice for a V and never regret it. Great guitars.

Now I want a '79 Z!
Question for the Tenacious D fans....who are Cato and Nash?
by transblueZ on Thu Jun 30, 2005 4:58 am
In the Kyle Quit the Band Song

The lyrics are - Couldnt Break up Cato and Nash.....

This is probably an easy reference...or just complete nonsense, but I can't seem to find it. Thank you.
GOT THE CAN....AND COULDNT BE HAPPIER!!
by Coors ML on Thu Jun 30, 2005 5:50 am
well, long story short, i had two jobs and was lookin to quit one of em cause i was spendin too much time on the mans clock. and not enough with my guitar or in the gym.
one of em was this movie/restruant place where i carried the orders out to the people in the theatres. As soon as they said we couldnt eat on the clock i knew thatd be my downfall.
well, as im walking with this dudes food, a fry hits the floor, theres no way i could put it back on the trey, so i ate it. With my luck the only other employee that was next to me, and could see me do it in that dark hallway was the only guy that worked there that would squeal on me.
the punkass told the manager Evil or Very Mad , and i got the can, but getting fired for the first time made me realize something that is best described by W.A.S.P.'s I Wanna Be Somebody, and i dont plan on settling for anything less Very Happy

now i can finally get back to playing for 3+ hours a day and hitting the gym Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy FREETIME
and I have my evenings back for PARTYTIME
Should we have two separate forums for Dimebag and Dean?
by Faust on Thu Jun 30, 2005 5:52 am
There seems to be two separate factions in the forum lately.... those who are only interested in Dimebag Darrell and not involved with the DOA... and also die-hard Dean collectors and players who are not as involved with Dime.

Should we have two separate indexes for the two topics? Perhaps this would reduce the overcrowded feel that the forum has taken on since Dime's untimely death. This would also allow sub-headings for Dime fans (ie. tech questions, song lessons, stories etc.) so that a lot of the Dime related information does not get lost on the General Forum. Perhaps splitting the two primary topics up into two separate forums could alleviate some of the congestion?

Maybe have it set up so that when you log in there are two headings or hotkeys or buttons... one for "Dime Tribute" the other for "Dean guitars" .... then there could be sub-headings in the Dime tribute area and it would not be such a mess... The Dime tribute section could be broken down into sub-categories with pictures, sounds etc.

What are your thought on the matter? I believe that both factions would benefit from having their own separate forums. This would allow for more sub-categories and better organization of topics.

i decided to give making an effects pedal a try. After reading about what i needed, what parts do and a bit about sound and how it is altered to make an effect i ordered a begginer kit from this site

http://www.smallbearelec.com/Projects/TweakO/TweakO.htm

anyways i was wondering if any of you other guys had experimented with making effects or hot rodding amps.

Would any other year (like the '79) make sense for reissue??

Would any other year (like the '79) make sense for reissue??

I'm thinking '83, '84 or '85. But I'm not which. Someone here will know.

In one of those years Dean increased the finish options and the guitars were incredible.

That's when I saw the guitar that still haunts me. A dark purpleburst V standard at High Country Music in Colorado Springs. I wanted that guitar so bad, but I couldn't raise the money.
something for you randy rhodes fans..
by DeanBELAIREguy on Thu Jun 30, 2005 6:04 pm
damn i miss his music.... all you shred heads listen to the song sunset on the last part of this video... most beginer guitar players can play this song.. but the way he plays it.. i dont think anyone can copy... its all about emotion.. you could hum most of rhandy's solo's.. enjoy.

Where the hell have I been?
by Dischord on Thu Jun 30, 2005 7:47 pm
Great question...hehehe...I got snagged on Tuesday for a procedure called a "PRK" which is one type of refractive eye surgery, but unlike the LASEK procedure there are no blades involved, only lasers and a toothbrush Shocked

Now on to tell the tale of the blind man who now sees:

I'm seated in the waiting area nervous as hell (I mean who wouldn't be, they're going to dork with my eyes, and it's an ARMY hospital!! Shocked ) and they call me back, dilate my eyes and drop in some stuff that I'm going to call liquid novocaine because when this stuff hits your eye you completely lose all feeling in it! Then you sit in the waiting area filling out all your forms and such while your eyes dilate, and then they call you back...and start putting tons of eyedrops in your eyes (liquid tears and liquid novocaine)...then you're ready to begin...

So the nice lady takes a purple marker and marks the boundaries of where the laser needs to cut at my corneas...and then they prop open my right eye with a wire thing...and then the electric toothbrush comes out...to scrape off the outer layer of cornea...yes this means they used a toothbrush to clean my eye!!! Shocked

No pain involved, and it's the weirdest thing in the world to watch this toothbrush at point blank range rotating on your eye! Then they lay you on your back and tell you to watch the little red light and hold still...

Then it looks like a Def Leppard laser light show...30 seconds worth, and then you're done, and can hear the machine counting down (20 seconds remaining, 25% complete etc.)

Now while this is going on you can smell the cooking eye, but you feel nothing, and some folks say they can see smoke coming from their eyes...I saw as well as I did without my glasses, and as the laser passed over my vision fogged...nothing serious there.

Then comes the WORST part of the procedure...

ICE WATER IN THE EYE

Then tons of eye drops (liquid tears, VIGAMOX, steroids, you name it) and then your contact lens (which serves as a band-aid) and then more drops, and then they do the other eye, same thing...

So I'm laying here, watching the light show, and finally I'm finished, and they tell me to sit up...

First words out of my mouth

OH MY GOD I CAN SEE!!!

I've been wearing glasses since I was 4 years old...when I went in for my checkup yesterday, just ONE DAY AFTER THE PROCEDURE...I was seeing at 20/50 without glasses...and my eye still hasn't completely healed yet...amazing if you ask me, considering I was at 20/120 in my good eye before this procedure!

Sometimes I see very well, others it's blurry, all part of the healing process...

Small print is hard for me still, so typing this out is an undertaking! And I'm not allowed to drive until tomorrow! BUMMER!!!

My eyes are uber light sensitive still, so I can't drive even if I wanted to, the Texas sun and headlights blind me presently, and even now I'm struggling just with the light coming from my computer!

But I figured I'd update you guys!

Have a great one!

OK. NOT OFTEN TO YOU GET TO HEAR SOMEONES MISTAKES OR STUFF THEY WORKED ON TO GET TO THE POINT WHERE THEY WERE HAPPY WITH THEIR RECORDING. I WAS MESSING AROUND TONIGHT RECORDING DIFFERENT STUFF FOR A SOLO ON ONE OF MY NEW TUNES. I GOT KIND OF TICKED OFF CAUSE I KEPT MISSING A CUE TO DO A LICK SO I JUST STARTED NOODLING AIMLESSLY. I LISTENED BACK. LAUGHED AT IT AND THOUGHT TO MYSELF , GEEZ THAT SOUNDS LIKE AN IDIOT.I THOUGHT ID SHARE. I TOOK THE VOCALS OFF FOR THE SCREAM HATERS CAUSE THERES A SCREAM INTO THE SOLO. HOPEFULLY I WILL ACTUALLY COME UP WITH SOMETHING USEABLE TO LEAVE SOON. UNTIL THEN HERE IS THE SOLO PART FOR ALL TO LAUGH ALONG AND TO FILL YOUR BOREDOM. ENJOY. IT ACTUALLY CHEERED ME UP LISTENING TO IT. Razz I EVEN GAVE IT AN APPEALING NAME
