Opinions on inlays for V project
by Anonymous on Mon Aug 01, 2005 9:50 pm
Hey guys, this is not Dean related but since I've been around here almost everyday I thought you people could help me out deciding this...
One of my guitars is an Arbor vintage Flying V (yes, plywood I know :\ ) with set neck, only one pickup (currently a Dimebucker) and a pretty nice blueburst colour.
I bought this at a pawn-shop for around $70 and I really like the neck on it so I thought it would make a cool project.
I will install a new fretboard abalone overlay but the thing I would like you to comment is their shape. Should I place square blocks or trapezoid blocks (I thought maybe inverted ones /_\ to match the V shape).
What do you make of this?

Why didn't somebody tell me Arch Enemy released a new one? Was scared at first because it was in the top 10 bestsellers at Best Buy. Went to pay my rent, someone told me about it, had to go by Best Buy to get home, and lo and behold, there it is in the top 10 bestsellers rack...under Alternative...

It's called Doomsday Machine

And it rocks
the comprehensive gear review thread
by j.arledge on Tue Aug 02, 2005 2:38 am
seeing as how i have recently been doing a lot of mods and buying new things i decided it would be a cool idea for everyone to share in on thier recent gear purchases, and give reviews on the items . I think this would be great for amps as wel seeing as how many amp threads there are .

So if you have bought anything guitar related please do share, you not only get to show off what you got but help other out by giving reviews over items they may be looking at purchasing them selfs.

First and again my dean evo.

It is a great guitar, with it having such a large neck it has really helped out getting faster on a 6 string and makes the 6 string neck feel like a pencil. I'd seriously in all honesty recommend a 7 string to anyone, it will help out with getting your fingers streached out, and make your speed improve greatly .
Now, they few minor things about the evo. One it is carved top, but a fore arm place would put the guitar over the top . I find that the binding really rubs my arm . A tummy cut-a-way would be cool but isn't totally needed. The pickups are not very high power but i dont expect any stock pickups to be except for the high end American made models but that's a different story .

All in all it is a great guitar, i'd recommend it, for under 200 used you can't get this kind of quality.

My next purchase.

The dimarzio super 3 .

I absolutly love this pickup . It is like a cross between a tone zone and super distortion. If you have ever played a breed i am told the super 3 is very simular only a lot hotter. It is is very middy and has good bass with a the highs cut a bit. It gives great full powerful chords and soloing the pickup's mids make it very smooth, while the highs shine when you throw a pinch harmonic out there. If you are looking for a more powerful tone zone with a bit less bass to make things a little clear but get more power this is an excellent choice.
The bad thing is the super 3 is no longer in normal production, they are only made new for special order but i have to say it was well worth the 3 1/2 week wait to get it .

The 1 meg mod again.

1 meg pots unlike 250 or 500 k bleed no signal to the ground, majority of times the part of the signal that is most noticable blead off is the treble. If you have a dark sounding guitar or are looking to boost teble a bit, you may give them a shot. At about half volume i belive it is roughly equaliant to a standar 500k so anything over about 7 is really more like overdrive. I haven't fully tested this yet. I placed a 1 meg volume pot in one of my guitars but it still has a 500 tone pot which means some higher frequencies are being let off . Though even without having both of the pots being 1 meg there still is a noticable difference in power and precived highs.

This will be tested shortly, i have my first guitar still and am going to install a single bridge humbucker with one 1 meg volume pot.Ther pickup is a stock V8 pickup out of my ibanez rg570, it was just replaced by the super 3.

I'll report back on how it sounds and if anyone would like a clip i may be able to get a few tomorrow.

Eminence Texas heat.

This is the same speaker that comes in dime's Krank cabs. They are rated at 150 watts with 300 watt max. They are fairly loud . They as described by eminence have top end bite with lots of clarity and good loud robust bass. This is an excellent description, they have a really soild sound and are extermly clear, the bass is excellent, and pinch harmonics jump out very well . They have very pertty sparkly cleans, it'd be great for like a 50 tube combo or even in a vintage lower wattage amp. If you need more than mud these speaker can help out a bit with that.

Coming shortly, my review on the eminence ram rod 10 inch speaker, line 6 riff tracker and magix studio deluxe.

its funny..not haa haa funny but odd funny how when you are a kid you dad seems so invincible.. how nothing could hurt him... no monsters under the bed no closet boogie men... nothing....

i sit here tonight missing my dad who passed away on friday.. it wasn't cancer or heart attack or anything huge like that that took him from me and my family. it was shittly little cold that developed into pneumonia that ultimately got him... people get over this kind of stuff all the time.. but not this time..

My dad smoked lucky strikes since he was 15 years old he quit 2 years ago but not before he developed emphizema, COPD and congestive heart failure... that is what allowed this shitty little cold to take away the person who chased away all the monsters, who bought me my first guitar, who taught me how to fish and fight and how to be a man...

i am 34 years old and i still called him for advice.. i am going to miss him...it kills me that he wont be able to see my sons grow up to be men..

my dad was only 65 when he died... too young... He told me many times he wished he would have never smoked or that he woulld have stopped when he was younger.. if any of you who smoke read this take my dads advice ( i can vouch for the quality of his advice)... quit now.. dont wait... so your son or daughter wont have to sit heretrying to express how much they are going to miss you...

i.. am going to miss you dad....

Now I am biased... everyone here knows that I love Hendrix, but this is blatantly libellous. The fact that he will not divulge his sources is proof that he is pushing BS!

A friend in Oz sent this to me.

The Miracle of Toilet Paper

Fresh from my shower, I stand in front of the mirror complaining to my husband that my breasts are too small. Instead of characteristically telling me it's not so, he uncharacteristically comes up with a suggestion. "If
you want your breasts to grow, then every day take a piece of toilet paper and rub it between them for a few seconds."

Willing to try anything, I fetch a piece of toilet paper and stand in front of the mirror, rubbing it between my breasts. "How long will this take?" I asked. "They will grow larger over a period of years," my husband replies. I stopped. " Do you really think rubbing a piece of toilet paper between my breasts every day will make my breasts larger over the years?" Without missing a beat he says "Worked
for your butt, didn't it?"

He's still alive, and with a great deal of therapy he may even walk
again. Stupid, stupid man.

by shredmonster on Tue Aug 02, 2005 7:04 pm
I have had several guitars (Gibson, Fender, Hamer, PRS, Ibanez, Jackson, etc..) and played many many in stores including most high end customs.

BUT - I have never had the opportunity to play a good Dean guitar.

The one that I saw that I liked the most was the one Michael Angelo played on his Speed Kills DVD in the "Revisited" section.

It looked like some kind of hardtail archtop with a Maple Top and had what appeared to be an upside down bass headstock.

It was a beauty and very articulate.

Does anyone know what Dean that was?
By the way, does Dean make combination radius necks?

About 2 hours ago, an Air France Airbus A340 went off the end of the runway here at Pearson Airport where both my wife and I work as Air Traffic Controllers. I am at home, my wife however was working in the tower at the time. Shortly after, it burst into flames. I have been sick to my stomach ever since. But now, I get word of a miracle, they are reporting everyone got off the aircraft and survived.

This stuff is terribly tramatic to those of us who spend our work days ensuring airplanes stay safe. My hat goes off to the men and women of emergency services, and the crew of the aircraft that obviously did an amazing job of ensuring everyone got off safely. It was only moments, seconds before the flames erupted, and the fact that everyone escaped is a miracle.

An incredible miracle!

I will sleep a little better tonight!

What Dean is this???????
by Jag Panzer on Tue Aug 02, 2005 10:34 pm
http://www.edromanguitars.com/guitar/dean/models/timecaps.htm

Look in the middle of the page, near the bottom. It's a trans blue maple top Z.

What's unusual is that he isn't listing it with the Time Capsules on top. He has a '79 listed to the left and another below it.

By the position of it on the website, it would appear to be a lower end guitar compared to a TC.

Is it some kind of special '79???

What is it?

I think it suits him just fine!

Today I had to go over to one of our Infantry Battalions to load a software patch on a system. These two guys got in an argument over how to spell the word "jail". The first one said to the other "What the hell do you mean? Are you like "My cousin Chester is in jail again or, This morning I put some gel in my hair.". Mind you the both of them are pronouncing both words the same. The sentence the word was being used in called for "jail". The first guy REALLY though that "jail" shoud be spelled "gel". They even argued that it may be "jale". Finally a third guy jumps in and starts yelling at both of them "YOU @#$$%^ MORONS!!! WHY DO YOU THINK EVERYONE CALLS INFANTRYMEN IDIOTS??? ITS BECAUSE OF JERKOFFS LIKE YOU TWO!!!!!!!!!!!!" I was rolling. I guess you had to be there.

Allright Im getting my first tube amp WHOOAAA right? Anyway I dont really understand the ohms part and what would work best for me. The head I ordered said it takes 1 x 8, 2 x 8, 1 x 16, 2 x 16 ohms. Now the cab Im ordering can take 8 ohm mono/stereo or 16 ohm m/s. So my question is whats the best one to go for? I'll basically be playing in my room and at eh 10-100 people shows I guess. What ohms would work best for that? Or even better could someone just explain what the difference is for each if any? Im sorta scatterbrained and confused so any input would be helpful, thanks

Tried some Dean's today
by NickM on Thu Aug 04, 2005 8:36 am
I went down to the US today for a shopping trip and I stopped by Mojo Music in Bellingham (it's kind of close to Seattle, I think). I tried a Hardtail, an ML XT, a Michael Schenker V, and a few others but I can't remember what they were. Man, Hardtails are incredible! I couldn't find anything wrong with the guitar. It felt so smooooooth, and the tone was really thick and clear. I'm not sure what kind of pickups were in the guitar, though. The ML-XT was pretty cool too, I really just wanted to play with the Floyd Rose. I'm thinking of getting a '79 ML-F now, but I'm scared of scared of the quality of the Floyds. Now, the Michael Schenker V. WOW. Probably the nicest Dean I've ever played! I'm not sure if it was a USA model, but it was set neck. I loved the neck! It wasn't fat at all like a Gibson neck, but it wasn't too thin like a Jackson or Ibanez neck. The quality was friggin amazing too, I thought the guitar was going to cost a bomb. I played that guitar for a good hour. The guy at the store let me plug into a Mesa Boogie Stilletto and then we cranked it when no one was in the store. I LOVE THAT GUITAR.

Anyway, it was a good day. I never get to try out any Dean guitars here since there is only 1 dealer who sells Deans, and they never have them in stock.

Mmmm... Michael Schenker V...
Interesting situation...

This was posted by THRIST1 over in the Tribute section. I figured I'd throw it up on here to see if there is an answer to be had on that.
I figure it's because they did buy the right to use that shape. Did they lose that when Dime left the company or did they keep it?
I figure more of you would see this in here since alot of you don't go over to the tribute section.

I'm just a cross poster so don't take it out on me....I'm all about Deans I promise!!! Very Happy

I was just over on the Zakk Wylde forum (a place I troll occasionally looking for interesting stuff) and came upon a link to a *certain* Pittsburgh area guitar store that's been selling an awful lot of non-Dean Dime guitars on Ebay lately. Anyways, they're making NEW ones? How exactly is this possible? Any law buffs care to explain how they get away with this?

Edit: here's a link. Keep in mind this is me bringing this to the attention of this community, where it should be met with righteous outrage. I am NOT endorsing this brand, and fully agree with the future word-filter changing of it to "Firewood"... I just really wonder if there's going to be legal action. http://www.************.com/boogieboard/viewtopic.php?t=842

Well, went to Peoria, IL to look for the perfect guitar and amp. What did I find? It was kind of hard do to the first store due to it had absolutely nothing. All the neat stuff they had was rental. I seriously walked in and waited for the southern whistle and a tumbleweed to roll by. Me and my buddy Andy were only there for 5-10 minutes before we left. Next was this place called Flores. It was a pretty cool place had a whole wall full of Mesa/Boogie full stacks and a whole wall of high end PRS's and Jackson among a ton of other guitars. I was thinking we were going to be spending a good amount of time in there. I was wrong. You couldn't play guitars with picks. So I picked up a used guitar and played it with a pick, because you could do that. I plugged it into some Mesas and I REALLY don't like Mesa very very brittle sounding, I toyed with it for awhile. Played a few other amps there, didn't really dig them. Played the VOX AC-30 it was pretty cool for cleans, almost acoustic sounding, but it was nice. So, we were there for about a half an hour. Next stop was Guitar Center. The place was really big compared to the stores we have here in Decatur. The guys didn't hound me like when I went to Corpus Christi's Guitar Center. Lots of cool guitars and they let me play with picks! Played a few Gibson Les Pauls (Standards and Classics) and they were pretty cool. But what I dug more than the Gibsons was a $600-$700 Schecter C-1 Classic. It was really nice, the finish was a black cherry and the neck was a lot similar to the Dean '79 Series. Not to mention, you probably wouldn't get scoliosis playing the Schecter. As for Amps at guitar center... They really didn't have anything. I played the TSL-40 from Marshall and it sounded almost exactly like my Marshall AVT-150. I was going to try out some Line6 Modeling amps, but that was short lived because none of them worked except the Spyder 2 Halfstack. It was pretty impressive for the head being about $300. It wouldn't replace my amp by any means, but it was pretty good for $300. So, out of all the junk I played here's the things not on my crap list:
Schecter C-1 Classic
Marshall AVT-150
Peavey XXX
Line6 Spyder (it was $300, gotta give it some credit)
VOX AC-30

Maybe I'm not a tube guy? The only tube amps I have played and liked are the Peaveys and the Fenders for the cleans (aside from the two I listed up there)

by Dischord on Thu Aug 04, 2005 11:26 pm
It's been a long stressful ride lately at work, but it looks like it's about to pay off. Next week I'll be back in the field again, doing AOC lane training for 4ID and 1CAV (training them to go back to the desert). All during this I'll be studying my ass off for the promotion board, as they've decided that since I've done the job of an E6 and E7 for so many years I finally deserve to be promoted to E6. Plus being a squad leader currently it allows me to finish out my time in a leadership position, which means early promotion to E7 if things pan out correctly. Yes I know I need to baby my NCOER but I care more about my soldiers than my damn NCOER, and quite frankly would prefer to keep things focussed on them rather than myself, honestly.

I hate the politics of the Army, I really do. After E6 I probably won't take any more promotions just because of the political shuffle from 7 up.

OK, have to run again, taking care of soldiers is a job that never ends!

Ebay seller tactics
by Pantera4ever on Fri Aug 05, 2005 12:54 am
Why do sellers on ebay think that after they wright ML, that they have to ad " dimebag" on there... this is very annoying and rude to use someones name where it shouldnt be just to get your guitar to sell for a lil more cash, i can understand dimebag tribute models, but stuff like ml xt's and ml f's, come on...

Iron Maiden & Mastodon, Toronto, Ontario
by DeanSlime396 on Fri Aug 05, 2005 2:45 am
Well, went to see Maiden last night at the Molson (Named after a Beer Company, Doh!) Amphitheatre here in Toronto for the umpteenth time since 1982!!! Maiden were awesome as always, and that 3 Guitar attack they have now has been so cool since Adrian Smith returned. I was quickly reminded of who my Favorite Metal Guitarist really is upon seeing DAVE MURRAY playing again! His "Fluidity" in Soloing is awesome!!!

The guy is so laid back and always smiling, met him briefly here in 83 and was the nicest guy, as they all seem to be...................

Anyway, I digress. The Maiden Show was almost two hours and they are only performing songs from their Debut, Killers, Number of the Beast and Piece of Mind, AWESOME!!!

Now what is the deal with Mastodon??? They started off with a song that was mostly Instrumental, they remind me of Rush on Steroids musically, then this guy starts GROWLING in the freaking microphone!!! The MUSIC was awesome but those Vocals gotta go! There is only one place for Vocals like that and that is with Tom Araya of Slayer! Wink

They did sort of redeem themselves with an AWESOME Cover of Thin Lizzy's "Emerald" at the end of their set!!!

All in all and awesome night!!!

was waiting for my buddies to get out of work on the 3rd so we could leave to see pelander-z and got bored and went to a dean dealer little ways up north. had lots of new and used deans for sale, like a used dragster(swapped pu's) for like 180, and a nos evo noir for 299... would jump on it but i just got my usa hardtail and nothing comes even close to that so im finding it hard to shell out the cash for a leser guitar... they also had an all tube club 30 combo i liked, might buy it, was only 210 i think... anyone play one?

What ML is it? It's not a 79 is it? What's with the position of the jack and toggle switch? In fact where is the jack?!

New Studio area
by Kragax on Fri Aug 05, 2005 5:54 pm
Getting ready to move into my new Studio/Guitar Room/Rehersal Area this weekend, having mixed emotions about it. I am happy to have the space and may even go commercial in this location, At the same time Im afraid the band will not recover from the fact that our drummer is going to be out of commision for a long time to come. So it looks like I move my equiptment in by myself. May just hafta get staggered this weekend. Gonna make the neighborhood dogs howl though. Ill try and get some pics if I can get my camera to work with this computer, its old and doesn't seem to work with XP.

Megadeth's Greatest Hits and DVD (Rant!)
by DeanSlime396 on Fri Aug 05, 2005 10:14 pm
Or should I say Mustaine's Greatest Hits (and Solos). Anyone else watching this???

Megadeth is my #2 Fave Band, but Mr. Mustaine's EGO never ceases, and never ceases to piss me off as a Fan! The Sound Quality of the DVD is Carp! I took the first one I bought back to the store for exchange in hopes that the "Volume Level Changes" were a Fluke! No Such Luck! The Replacement SUCKS as well.
Ooooppps! Meant to post this here!!! Embarassed

My BIGGEST complaint is that Mr. Mustaine has nicely "Mastered" out Marty Friedman's Guitar Parts!!! Oh, and of course his Guitar Parts are Loud & Clear! What is with that s#%t??? Marty is an AWESOME Guitarist, as is Dave..................Marty was a big part of "Deth" back in the day, he deserves more respect.

You can really tell that this Greatest Hits thing is a Contract Fullfilment Deal!!! I sure hope Dave wouldn't release something this Crappy on purpose!!!

I hope the Megadeth Arsenal DVD Kicks Arse! Starting to lose faith..............

Possible ebay scammer??
by RC99 on Sat Aug 06, 2005 1:46 am
I won a bid on this Iceman copy :
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7339116150&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

did it kinda quick - looked cool and was cheap - on the other hand Mazi Bee just got an awesome V Select for $300.
So he doesn't take paypal - and wants to use Bidpay - which I think means I eat the payment costs.

he has a long kind of weird story about a guy he sold to - cancelled the payment to Paypal - so they took his money back. and he'd sent the guitar. and about the buyer he says:

" the guy who ripped me off along time ago was canadian and did
not have a confirmed address so paypal would not help me. and the phone calls i made were to a guy who claimed the dude was a roomate and not him and he ran out with out paying rent and is no longer available. The guitar and shipping was 489 tplus 45.00 so it wasn't so serious the Mounted police are going to do anything. "

this was his response to me wondering why he didn't pursue the guy in some way .

So I suggested we both fax each other a xerox of our driver's license as proof of Id/residence - a a trust and comfort zone builder. First guy I go my first Dean EVO from did this and the guy I got my USA Caddy also suggested this himself.

so the guy says :

"Dude, i live on a boat! i don't have a fax machine and i have to drive
then pay for any faxing i do at a dollar a page. i have great feedback
and it isn't a diamond ring you're buying it is only 389.00 and
shipping...and you are taking a long time. Are you new to ebay/ i just got
dicked around by a guy who bid on my Les Paul then didn't pay. A newbie. I
don't need your lisence etc. I am registered with western union/bidpay
and they have my info.

Chris "

that sounded Preeety weird.
I'm thinkin
"He lives in a VAN ... DOWN by the RIVER" Sad Sad Mad

So I emailed one ebayer who bought from him
and says he's OK and he got the guitar
(but his feedback says it had a broken toggle switch)

I mailed another few guys on the bay including the guy that supposedly ripped him.
We'll see.

Anyone ever hear of these guitars? or this guy Chris.
this was kind of a lazy compulsion buy - I didn't notice the NO PAYPAL part .. but it feels kinda weird.

Thanks for any input/insights.

Interesting concept. I like it. I don't know if anyone here remembers the Negativland vs. U2 controversy... but it was terrible to see a corporate music giant stomp a small-time band into the pavement for doing a parody of them... yes, "Bono" and "The Edge" have bazillions of dollars and no sense of humor.

Yeah! Twisted Evil Shocked Cool Just got my '67 Fender Bassman Hot Rod amp back from the Tech!
Image

A few caps and a new socket and tube for the reverb driver and she's screaming again!

The bass channel is voiced like a PLEXI, and the norm channel is like a Dumble/Boogie. It's a Bassman, but in a Bandmaster Reverb box, with the Badmaster Reverb! And it has a tube rectifier. Can you say SAG? I use an A B Y switch into both channels. Both at once iz way 2 cool. Rolling the guitar vol.knob back to around 5-6 cleans it up on both channels without ANY volume loss! Shocked Wink Spin it back to the stop, and it's GROWL CITY! Twisted Evil Thanks again to Jay, TNVOL, for the swap we did for this amp! It is absolutely PERFECT for me! Very Happy Cool

I know I have been asking around and talking to people about prices on ML's because i am planning my next purchase, but I seriously still do not know what I am going to buy. It has to have some point aspect so I have nailed it down to ML,V,Caddy,Z in that order, but I am starting to look at the V, Caddy and Z and I have become curious. I don't have any large dean dealers in my area so I cannot play these guitars to see how comfortable with them so I am going to have to rely on you guys for this one. I would like your personal product reviews on all the fine products I have listed above. Thank you in advance.

P.S.-I already know about the ML because i have the 332 and have played ML's before but it would be nice to you see your reviews anyway. It can maybe even be helpful for other people who are undecided like me.

U Gotta check this out
by DeanfromHellML on Sun Aug 07, 2005 7:52 pm
I got this emailed to me about a week ago:

Dear Friend,

Here is yet another opportunity to make some money. Before you curse and send this message to the recycle bin along with the multitude of others that are dropped into your in box every day, please take a moment to glance at the opportunity that presents itself here. First and foremost, I want you to understand that I am not spamming you, at least by my own definition of the word. If you have received this offer, then one of four things have happened:

You have sent me your business opportunity, unsolicited;

I have seen your ad, but already participate in the program being offered;

I do not participate in your business opportunity, but have requested information about it; or

I have at least reviewed your business opportunity, but have chosen not to participate at this time (obviously, I cannot do everything at once).

So, that being said, I would like you to read the text below, all the while keeping an open mind. I can tell you that it has worked because it has worked for me. I have also been in contact with people who have sent me these offers in the past and they seem to have done well by this opportunity. Well, if you think that this program can benefit you, you be the sole judge, then by all means, participate. After all, you really have nothing to lose but Ł5 and 1 or 2 hours of your time.
Before we begin, here are some comments from people who have already participated in this venture:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I want to share this with you. I am sure, like me, you have tried many different opportunities at home and most of them don't work, or they want money we don't have. I figured what's a fiver when we have spent so much more... Marie Swansea
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thought you might find this interesting...I decided to try this one also. I figure what do I have to lose but a few quid?... Cheryl Swansea
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are prepared to read on, BE PREPARED TO GET EXCITED... YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Read the following and you will agree this is a very exciting opportunity. Only invest a little bit of time and your reward could mean thousands of pounds! Good luck! "IT'S OUTRAGEOUS!!! With 2 hours of work I have made over Ł11,000.00 in the last 3 weeks... and my investment was just Ł5.00!!! I LOVE IT! THANK YOU! 11,000 X's!!!" -Julie M. Cardiff
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you need to make a few thousand dollars REALLY FAST, then please take a moment to read this simple program I am sharing with you. No, it is NOT what you think! YOU DO NOT have to send Ł5.00 to five people to five people to buy a report, buy a recipe, or any other product. Nor will you need to invest more money later to get things going. Complete it in ONE HOUR and you will never forget the day you first received it. If you are doing other programs, by all means stay with them, but do this program as well if you CAN'T WAIT two to three months while your other programs start to work for you.
This Is How It Works
Unlike many other programs, this three-level program is more realistic and much, much faster. Because it is so easy, the response rate for this program is VERY HIGH and VERY FAST, and you will see the results in two weeks or less! Just in time for next month's bills!
You only mail out 20 copies (not 200 or more as in other programs). You should also send them to PEOPLE WHO SEND YOU THEIR PROGRAMS because they know THESE PROGRAMS WORK and they are already believers in the system! Besides, this program is much, much FASTER and has a HIGHER RESPONSE RATE.

Even if you are already in a program, STAY WITH IT, but do yourself a favor and DO THIS ONE as well, START RIGHT NOW! It's simple and takes a very small investment. It will pay off long before other letters even begin to trickle in!

Just give ONE person a Ł5.00 gift. That's all!

Follow the simple instructions and in TWO WEEKS you will have Ł10,000 in your bank account!!! Because of the LOW INVESTMENT, SPEED and HIGH PROFIT POTENTIAL, this program has a VERY HIGH RESPONSE RATE. JUST ONE (1) Ł5.00 Note THAT'S YOUR INVESTMENT!

Follow These Simple Instructions
On a blank sheet of paper write "Please add me to your mailing list". Write your name and address clearly and include your Email address (if you have one) for future mailings and courtesy follow-ups. Fold it around a US $5.00 bill and send this to the FIRST name on the list (#1). Only the FIRST PERSON on the list gets YOUR NAME AND A FIVE DOLLAR GIFT.
Note: This is a service and is 100% legal (Refer to US Postal & Lottery Laws, Title 18, Sections 1302 aned 1341 or Title 18, Sections 3005 in the US Code, also in the Code of Federal Regulations, Volume 1, Sections 255 and 436, which state that "a product or service must be exchanged for money received"). This is also legal in Canada, by the way.

Retype the list ONLY. REMOVING the FIRST (#1) NAME FROM THE LIST. Move the other two names UP and ADD YOUR NAME to the list in the THIRD (#3) position.

Send out 20 copies of this letter. Note: By sending this letter via Email, the response time is much faster and you save the expense of envelopes, stamps, and copying services.

Consider this: MILLIONS of people "surf the Internet" everyday, all day, all over the World! FIFTY THOUSAND new people get on the Internet every month! An excellent source of names is the people who send you other programs, and the names listed on the letter they send you. Your contact source is UNLIMITED. It boggles my mind to think of all the possibilities!
Mail, or should I say Email, your letter TODAY! It's so easy, ONE HOUR of your time. THAT'S IT!

To send your newsletter by Email:

1. Go to "Edit" and "Select All"
Go to "Edit" and "Copy"
Start (compose) a new Email message
Address your Email and Subject Blocks
Go to "Edit" and "Paste"
After you have pasted this article in your new Email, delete the old header and footer (Subject, Date, To, From, Etc..). Now you can edit the names and addresses with ease. I recommend deleting the top name, adding your name and address to the bottom of the list, then simply changing the numbers.
THERE'S NOTHING MORE TO DO. When your name reaches the first position in a few days, it will be your turn to collect your gifts. The gifts will be sent to you by 1,500 to 2,000 people like yourself, who are willing to invest Ł5.00 and one hour to receive Ł10,000 in cash. That's all! There will be a total of Ł10,000 (or more) in Ł5.00 notes in your letterbox in two weeks.

Ł10,000 for an hour's work! I think it's WORTH IT, don't you?

GO AHEAD--TRY IT. IT'S Ł5.00! EVEN IF YOU JUST MAKE 3 OR 4 THOUSAND. WOULDN'T THAT BE NICE? IF YOU TRY IT, IT WILL PAY!!!

TRUE STORY
Cindy Allen writes: I ran this gift summation four times last year. The first time I received over Ł7,000 in cash in less than two weeks and over Ł10,000 in cash in the next three times I ran it. I can't begin to tell you how great it feels not to have to worry about money anymore! I thank GOD for the day I received this letter! It has truly changed my life! Don't be afraid to make gifts to strangers, they'll come back to you ten-fold. So, let's keep it going and help each other in these "tough and uncertain times".
Many of us just want to pay off our bills, buy a new car or buy a new home for our famly. Whatever your reasons or needs are, this program worked for Cindy and thousands of others (just like you and I) time and time again! THIS PROGRAM CAN AND WILL WORK FOR YOU!!!

Can I Do It Again?
OF COURSE YOU CAN...This plan is structured for everyone to send only twenty (20) letters each. However, you are certainly not limited to twenty. Mail out as many as you can. Every twenty letters you send has a return to you of Ł10,000 or more. If you can mail forty, sixty, eighty, or whatever. GO FOR IT! THE MORE YOU PUT INTO IT, THE MORE YOU GET OUT OF IT!
Each time you run through this program, just follow the steps (1) through (3) and everyone on your gift list benefits! Besides, there are no mailing list to buy (and wait for), no further trips to the printer or copiers, and you can do it again and again with your regular group of gifters, or start up a new group. Some people produce a mailing list of opportunity seekers and send out 200 or more.

Why not? It beats working! Each time you receive a MLM offer in the mail, respond with THIS letter! Your name will climb to the number one position at dizzying geometric rates.

Follow the simple instructions and above all, please "PLAY FAIR." That's the key to this program's success. Your name must run the "full gamut" on the list to produce the end results. "Sneaking" your name higher up on the list WILL NOT produce the results you think, and it only cheats the other people who have worked hard and earned the rights to be there. So please, play by the rules and the ŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁ will come to you!!! ---------------Mail Your Letters Out Today-----------

$$$ TOGETHER WE WILL PROSPER $$$
Mail your Ł5.00 "Gift" to the first name on the list ONLY. Remove the first name and move the other two up one place and put your name in the #3 position.
GOOD LUCK!!!

So I buy a Dimebag tribute ML. It arrived last friday. Had fun playing it over the weekend.
But come Monday morning, at about 11am, what do I see, but another Dimebag tribute ML delivered to my door. Surprised

So it seems I have two Deans for the price of one,
Image

I wont mention where I bought it from however, but I am going to do the honest thing and return it. It's only a matter of time before they ask for it back. So I thought I'd save myself the hassle.

But, I did however choose the better one. One of them was slightly rough on the back of the neck, one was smooth. Guess which one i chose Very Happy

I installed my 16 space rack today. I still need to get the patch bay hooked up which is going to require a truckload of cables... but it will mean very quick changes to my setup without getting behind the bastard! Still four more spaces to fill.... hmmm... what to do... what to do....

Post up pics of your racks! Let's check out your rack! Wink

Wylde Overdrive a 5150?
by sepsis311 on Mon Aug 08, 2005 6:07 pm
I'm wondering, would I be wasting money using i guess, any type of overdrive pedal with a 5150? I can turn up the pre-gain to the point of lots of feedback. But here's what i'm wondering...

Doesn't the overdrive pedal saturate the power amp? The pedal forces the tubes to run a little hotter giving a more unique sound than just turning up the pre-gain?

Is it a waste or worth checking out?

Is Dean dropping the ball here..
by DeanBELAIREguy on Tue Aug 09, 2005 12:24 pm
Look... i love my Bel Aire's and most of the other vintages i have played...i like the new usa hard tails but that is about it... what is up with all the poor quality bolt on guitars that make up Deans lower cost import line..... for the same money i can buy a Jay Turser or and Agile and get a top quiality guitar... My turser looks the same as a set neck evo. But the quality and sound is hands down better..

These chinese and korean set necked guitars are getting better all the time.. a guy i Jammed with has an Agile Destroyer and it is much better than its Ibanez counterpart. I hate to say it but my next guitar will be An Agile..

There is no need to have a bolt on neck on any Dean guitar anymore. it is ok to have usa models that are superior to your cheaper line but i may be wrong in assuming that dean makes the bulk of its money from their cheaper line... Agile or dillon sells a set necked v for 139.00 If Dean had the manufacturer that makes these make the same for them with a v headstock they could sell it for at least 275 -300.00 and it would sell like hotcakes..

The Chinese and Korean guitar plants do private label work their customers.. they make basically the same guitar with some physical differnces for all their customers.. so on one side they be making their own brand (Agile) and on the other they may be making Jay Tursers or Fenders or what ever..

If US Guitar companies like Dean do not take advantage of this trend towards high quality affordable guitars. i think it is a big mistake..

Man I fell for it. If you get an email that tells you your bid on an item has been cancelled, do not click on the item number in the e-mail! It takes you right to your login page to check the item... then you have to log in twice and the item is something really stupid like baby items....

I immediately closed all my windows and logged into a regular ebay window and changed my password.

Don't fall for this one... it is pretty clever.

HOW TO CALL THE POLICE
by eddievanhalen on Wed Aug 10, 2005 3:46 am
HOW TO CALL THE POLICE
George Phillips of Meridian, Mississippi was going up to
bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden
shed, which she could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go turn off the light but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things.

He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?" and he said "no". Then they said that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be along when available. George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police again.

"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people in my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now cause I've just shot them all." Then he hung up.

Within five minutes three police cars, an Armed Response unit, and an ambulance showed up at the Phillips residence. Of course, the police caught the burglars red-handed. One of the Policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you'd shot them!" George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"

(True Story) I'snt that messed up!?!?

Practical jokes at work?
by Lurker on Thu Aug 11, 2005 12:31 am
What do you guys do to entertain yourself from the mundane??

For instance: when I knock on a door to announce that I'll be roaming peoples property...I sometimes like to let fly with a rancid S.B.D. before they get to the door!! Twisted Evil
Also: I used to work at a printing company. While at my current job, I made a very professional magnetic sign that read: "THE VILLIAGE IDIOTt" (minus the extra 't' of course) and put it on this real jackass of a dude's work trucks tailgate!! This sign was like,14"x22", big enough to read from the other lanes. This guy drove from North Richland Hills to Arlington during morning traffic!! (For those of you familiar with the D/FW area.) For those of you who are not--it's a long ways! Every morning after that for months- the guys would drive a few hundred feet from our meet site, walk around the truck, then get going to work!!

Another great one is: slap a big zip-tie around your "marks" driveshaft!! The incredible noise makes them think that the vehicle falling apart!! Twisted Evil

What is the best way to Ebay, and ship a guitar.
by transblueZ on Thu Aug 11, 2005 12:55 am
hi folks, I'm thinking of throwing a couple of non-Deans on the 'Bay to clear house a bit. I don't play these guitars and they're just taking up space. I was wondering what the best practices on the 'Bay are? Besides good pics and whatnot. Is it best to start at a buck, set a reserve and let it fly? Or start at the amount you really want for it and see if it goes up? Or start low with a higher than wanted Buy It Now and see if you get lucky?

And then there is the matter of shipping. I've had guitars show up unscathed packed in everything from cased, double boxed with lots of goodies to cusion things (thank you Dave at BassandTreble)
To uncased, no gig bag in a homemade box with minimal packing and arrived in 1 piece unhurt.

Both axes do have decent hardshell cases as a starting point.

Thank you in advance.

The Avatar Speaker folks.
by transblueZ on Fri Aug 12, 2005 4:54 am
Question on their Black Carpet/Metal Grill 4X12 cabs. Anyone deal with these folks and what kind of dealing were had? The prices seem rather low, or just sneakily shown.

Image

Showing - This cab is available complete but speakerless for $269

Mix any Celestion Vintage 30s, Greenbacks , G12H30s, Classic Lead 80s, Eminence Swamp Thangs, Govenors, Private Jacks, Tonkers, Texas Heats $439.

Is the $439 the full price of the cab with any 4 of these in there? The Celestion V30's are approx $110 a pop from Musiciansfiend or 123. Looks like it would be the $269 plus the $439. If not, this seems to be one heck of a deal.

Here are some more pics for you guys..

This is a statue on Saddams Palace Complex in Tikrit. His name was Saladim. He was a famous Kurd that fought Richard the Lionheart in the Third Crusade. The statue is really cool close up. What its doing on Saddams Complex is a mystery to me because Saddam used to kill Kurds any chance he had.
Image

This is just a shot of one of the smaller palaces on the complex. Right now it is used to house troops in the new Iraqi Army. That whole area down there is where they train. All that training just to get shot by the insurgents.

This is the bridge to get over to the Iraqi side. Insurgents try to blow it up all the time. They love to blow bridges.

Dean Bass in Burger King CoqRoq video!
by crankdaddy on Fri Aug 12, 2005 8:50 pm
I'm sure the new Burger King Chicken Fries "CoqRoq" site has already been discussed, but they just added some new video to the site.

Go to www.coqroq.com

Then go to the Music section. They have mp3s and videos. Play the "Cross the Road" Video.

Bad setup on a nice guitar
by pissedoff on Fri Aug 12, 2005 9:34 pm
Bought a Dean exotica acoustic.Lovely guitar but the setup was awful. The nut was monstrously high which ive had to file down.Ive put in a bone saddle and the intonation(however much i compensate it)is driving me up the wall .Ive read that some electro acoustics prefer the plastic saddle(should i reinstall the pllastic one?)I thought i could deal with the setup problems myself but i am proved wrong.I bought this guitar new for £480 and i thought the least i could expect was a proper setup.Im now going to have to go to the expense of putting it in a repair shop.I know the potential this guitar has to offer but i am at my wits end as i almost reduced it to fire wood in a rage that was spawned from the pits of hell.Dean make great guitars but the person who set it up was probably meant to be working in the nuclear weapons factory down the road.Any advice would be welcome and any kind words to reduce my adrenalin levels.aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrghhhhhhhh Twisted Evil Evil or Very Mad Mad Mad Crying or Very sad

Just noticed that the big-name Stratocaster manufacturer is now coming up as a bunch of characters if typed on this site (you know, kind of like "oatmeal"?). I understand that this is the Dean Forum- just wondering if this practice is going to spread to all competition, or if there was a reason F-nd-r was singled out.

Just got my first Dean...
by syrnett on Sat Aug 13, 2005 2:57 am
Well, my first Dean just arrive via UPS today... a US Hardtail Pro in Walnut stain.

The guitar plays/sounds absolutely amazing... but one problem... it had a finish flaw on the headstock... its small but still, I dont expect that when I pay over 1k on an axe.

So I contacted the dealer I bought it from and will hopefully hear back from them to tomorrow and work out an exchange since I believe they had 2 of this model in stock.

Wish me luck.

Here is the picture.... think Im being overly picky?

Thanks... first post here.

Wow....show was great but way to farging LOUD. I was in the 8th row. Some songs were so loud that it took 30 seconds to figure out what it was. They played 1 brand new song and a ton of old ones. They played for 3 hours with a 10 minute break in the middle.

Silvertide, The Exies and Sum41 opened. I new I should have brought my earplugs........I'll be ringing for 2 days.

Lots of pyro and hot babes were part of the show. Even Pam was on the side of the stage watching with the 2 kids. Tommy did a sky show, hanging from a cable that hoisted him to 2 different risers that were high above on each side of the stage. Pretty cool!!

Drying out.
by Faust on Mon Aug 15, 2005 3:04 am
OK so the summer is almost over and I have done nothing except poison my liver. I think I am coming to the conclusion that I can not moderate my drinking and will have to dry out for a while (this is about the fifth time I have reached this point of alcoholism!)

Anybody else feeling this? I know this is not A.A. ... but my DOA buddies opinion matters more to me.

EDIT: "Drying out" means "Quit drinking completely". Sorry about the slang... my head is so cloudy today I can hardly think straight.

"She likes kissing Sam's hairless frame, littered with blackheads, brown warts and moles. Even his hindquarters have a large hernia lump.

Then there's his right eye, left a reddish-purple from cataracts, which stands out from the other, which is a milky white.

"I've never had a dog this much in love with me," Lockheed said. "I really baby Sam, and kiss him a lot. He's a toad [that's] going to turn into a prince."

1997 Parker Nitefly. Replaced the bridge pickup with a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails double humbucker. Strap locks as well (no more dropping guitars)

This is my newest addition. A Takamine (not sure of the model right now) 12 string. I love the sound and it plays excellent. However I do need to take it into the shop to be set up. The high action from the 9th up makes it hard to bar and finger when in open tunings.

Image

I've never owned a Dean guitar so I can't compare the Parker's feel vs Dean's feel. I can say that the Parker's Carbon fretboard and Titanium frets are amazing for sustain. It lacks a really good blues tone, but that could be corrected with enough effects. I find it to be very playable and responsive to minute vibratto.
EXHORDER NEWS
by BLOODROOT on Tue Aug 16, 2005 4:44 am
PITTS VS. PREPS, the Louisiana-based band featuring former EXHORDER/FLOODGATE frontman Kyle Thomas, will be performing at the House of Shock Metal Fest on Saturday, August 20 at Twiropa in New Orleans, Louisiana. Also scheduled to appear at the festival are ATONE PAIN TRIBE, SHEDDING OLD SKIN, 11 REASONS, SINKHOLE, IN VAIN, SKINCRAWL, SOUTHERN WHISKEY REBELLION, LOWERLINE and MISLED. Doors at 5pm, show begins at 6pm. Tickets are $10 and available now at TwiRoPa Tickets.

Thomas had previously said about PITTS VS. PREPS' musical direction, "This is my only current project and it is centered around the truest sound of heavy metal in the realm of old JUDAS PRIEST and IRON MAIDEN. Check it out if you can, it's always a good party when we hit the stage."

Kyle is one of 57 artists contributing to Roadrunner Records' upcoming album to mark the label's 25th anniversary. The CD, entitled "The All-Star Sessions", will feature Thomas singing on a track called "Constitution Down", written by SLIPKNOT drummer Joey Jordison. An October 11 release is expected. More information is available at this location.
Boca discontinued?
by Laudanum on Tue Aug 16, 2005 2:14 pm
I don't see the Boca among the Dean guitars anymore, I'm assuming it was discontinued. Does anyone know ?
A shame if so. I picked one up a few months ago and it was priced as low as a close-out so I thought they may be near the end of their run. This is a really nice playing, comfortable, small bodied semi-hb.
I'm not completely thrilled with the pick-ups but that's easily remedied. Maybe a nice set of chrome covered pups - PAF style or other vintage sounding would be a nice upgrade.
Well, if it is disco'd, maybe Dean will do another affordable HB in the near future.

Back to the point ... any verification that they discontinued this axe? Thanks
For Hans

How to have a platinum selling album
by Jag Panzer on Tue Aug 16, 2005 6:29 pm
It's deceptively simple -

Date Rosanna Arquette

You'll get hooked and she'll dump you when you're hopelessly in love. You become distraught and starting writing music. The music will sell millions.

This proven method has worked for both Toto and Peter Gabriel!

So single musicians - brush your teeth, put on your Sunday best and give her a call. 12 months from now you'll be depressed and seeing a therapist, BUT YOU'LL HAVE A PLATINUM ALBUM!
So uhuum yeah...
by Splattergore on Tue Aug 16, 2005 7:54 pm
Dave Mustaine has moved up to #1 on my "Douchebag List"
I just talked to a guy I work with who was one of the Local opening bands for Dave Mustaines Gigantor tour, and he told me some pretty interesting things.

Mustaine himself billed this tour as "being a tour to help promote the local band scene." So, as it turns out Milwaukee was the only leg of the tour to feature Local Bands, and that was because the club brought them on. Also Mustaine decided to push up the start time 2 hours just to screw with the local bands so they couldn't catch any of the show. He also deciced that he was going to kick off one of the bands because they wrote him a letter thanking him for his support. Aaaand this comes from a while back, during the Countdown to Extintion tour after the show he basically told all the Local Bands to get the F out because the food/beer was for Megadeth only.

The guy may be able to play his A$$ off but I'll be damned if I'm ever even going to support a damn thing he puts out.

What's his beef with local bands??

FBD/Dimebucker sound clip
by gibson_emg on Wed Aug 17, 2005 12:10 am
This is me playing a little bit of Walk by Pantera so people can see what the FBD and/or Dimebucker sound like. I'm running through a Jimi Hendrix Fuzz wah and a Zakk Wylde overdrive to my JCM 800 2205 (dual channel, 50 watts). I also have a Furman PQ-3 (black face) in the FX loop. For the solo, I have a Boss DD-5 delay on to add some breathing room. I have one speaker mic-ed up, which then ran to my computer and directly recorded...no after processing.

DISCLAIMER: First off, I have a broken finger on my left hand....the middle finger. That is the finger that supports my bending, so the bending on here kind of sucks, but I use the whammy bar to help compensate. The solo happens to be pretty hard with 3 fingers, but I'm getting used to it. I didn't spend a lot of time recording it (20 minutes maybe) so I could have gotten a better sound if I would have worked more. As you're probably aware, there is much more treble right next to the speaker than there is where you're standing, or should I say less bass and mids? So it's a bit harsh sounding, and the playing isn't dead on, but at least you'll get the idea. Enjoy!

Note: you're probably have to copy and paste the link to get it to work!

by ScottMexico on Wed Aug 17, 2005 2:01 pm
I found this on Blabbermouth today. And because it's Blabbermouth, it's not really that new- I had heard this a couple months ago. However, after reading the gas prices thread, I had to post something a little lighter. How depressing. Anyways, good luck to all applicants!

Ozzy Osbourne is looking for a guitar player to write his next studio album with. All interested parties should send a package showcasing their guitar skills to:

Ozzy Osbourne Guitar Player
P.O. Box 5249
Beverly Hills, CA 90209

Osbourne announced on Friday (August 12) that this year's Ozzfest would be his last as a headliner, either with BLACK SABBATH or as a solo performer. In a statement, Osbourne revealed that Ozzfest would return in 2006, but that Osbourne would limit his performances to only a few selected cities.

Ozzy's last release as a solo artist was the "Prince of Darkness" box set, which was recently certified gold by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) for shipments in excess of 125,000 copies (multi-disc albums get counted once for each disc within the album; regular gold certification occurs at 500,000 copies).

Ozzy's "best of" collection, "The Essential Ozzy Osbourne", has sold 416,000 copies in the United States since its February 2003 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Which acoustic???
by Jag Panzer on Wed Aug 17, 2005 3:05 pm
Early this morning, I started planning my 'Dean futures' (sounds like a stock broker comment).

I currently have

TC Caddy
'79 V
Vendetta 4

Future buys

DOA V (hopefully here today)
Black Gold V
Blonde P90 Z
'06 DOA Z

That makes 7 Dean electrics (which according to my wife, is 6 too many).

So I figure I need to get an acoustic.

Which model? I currently have a very old (early 80's) Adamas. It sounds fantastic, but a little but thin. I'd like something more robust and 'woody'.

Which Dean acoustic fits the bill? I've never actually seen a Dean acoustic in person.

I was reading an article with the guitarists from meshuggah. and they said by waxing their pickups, they completely negate feedback. I found out how to do it and will be doing it with my L-500XL. I was just wondering if anybody here can tell me there techniques on how they do it

Want to get ready for gigs, got all stage preps and stuff down, but just wondering if any of you guys with curly hair get pissed off when you headbang because of how your hair turns out.

Embarassed <<<<<<<<Hot hot hot here in phx!!!Saw some good bands today!!!I showed around 2pm todayjust in time to catch as i lay dying.those kids rocked, next was killswitch engage not to impressive one guitarist came out in a little black cape and little shorts running around showing his muscles???weird!!!they sounded good ill give em that!!I was totally impressed by Rob zombies band!!they were fricken tight and had jhon 5 playing with them!!That dude played all the songs to a t even the old zombie songs!!The crowd went frickin crazy was jumpin unlike any of the other bands!!So after zombie started making my way to the main stage wich took an hour and finding water was really tough and expensive!!missed "in flames" in tranzit. Finally madse it to the stage bls came out,now i know im gonna catch flak for saying this but I was not impressed!!they came out with like 10 minutes of feedback wich was horrid.granted they did play a few tunes that sounded like the record somewhat.zakks guitar sound is nasty midrangy and not fat at all!!!I expected some soloing but a half hour at a time of zakk showing off is ridiculous!!Playing behind his head and all that and the same riffs over and over.his band i feel sorry for those guys man they looked bored, most of the bls set was the band playing a cord proggression while zakk wanked off on his guitar!!Sorry I love killer guitar soloing but it was ridiculous and non musical.just a wank session!!times like this i really long for watching dime shred!!anyways up next was shawdows fall they were good and i liked the guitarists their solos were inovative and interesting!!Next up was mudvayne that dude had fat crunchy tone for days and the crowd loved them.couldent see his amps but he had clear tone!!I left right before iron maiden cause i was sick from the heat!!Also i was surprized that all the bands had walls of dummy cabs.didnt relize till they were weeling them offstage and i saw the emty backs!!All in all it was a great time with tons of people and heavy metal shopping.again i appoligise for my comments on bls i guess i was expecting a guitar god and got a headache instead!! It's surrounded by a golf course/country club. It's been there for years. They make gable-topped cartons for the dairy industry, milk and whipped cream cartons, stuff like that. So, with the price of gas I can walk, and that's cool. And, it's Union, so I can retire someday(like I'll last long enuff working there, hehhehe). I'm hoping for the best. But I know me... One day in the future, Jesse Jackson has a heart-attack and dies.

He immediately goes to hell, where the devil is waiting for him

"I don't know what to do here," says the devil. "You are on my list, but I have no room for you.

You definitely have to stay here, so I'll tell you what I'm going to do.

I've got a couple of folks here who weren't quite as bad as you. I'll let one of them go, but you have to take their place. I'll even let YOU decide who leaves."

Jesse thought that sounded pretty good, so the devil opened the door to the first room. In it, was Ted Kennedy and a large pool of water. He kept diving in, and surfacing, empty handed. Over, and over, and over he dove in and surfaced with nothing. Such was his fate in hell.

"No," Jesse said. "I don't think so. I'm not a good swimmer, and I don't think I could do that all day long."

The devil led him to the door of the next room. In it was Al Gore with a sledgehammer and a room full of rocks. All he did was swing that hammer, time after time after time.

"No, I've got this problem with my shoulder. I would be in constant agony if all I could do was break rocks all day," commented Jesse.

The devil opened a third door. Through it, Jesse saw Bill Clinton, lying on the floor with his arms tied over his head, and his legs restrained in a spread-eagle pose. Bent over him was Monica Lewinsky, doing what she does best.

Jesse looked at this in shocked disbelief, and finally said, "Yeah, I can handle this."

The devil smiled and said . . . . . . . . .

(This is priceless)

"OK, Monica, you're free to go."
Guitar rackmount.

I've seen all kinds of nifty-looking guitar rack things, but where do I get THE rack?

Are they all one specific size? When I look at the furman PQ's, it looks alot smaller than the other rack things i've ever seen.

1- Where can I get the rack?
2- Are they all the same size?

Bad news. Finally last week we started working only 4 days a week. I got off Thursday and on my way home, I was so excited to get back to my home. I was anticipating what I would do. One thing that really excited me was that I could get to my computer and say hello to all my friends here! When I unlocked my door, almost everything was gone! My wonderful Sony computer, Strat, Sony surround sound system, studio monitors and all my studio stuff, my power tools, and various other valuables. I couldn't believe it! At first I just sat there, starring at the mess they left. Then I called my Sister to come over and of corse the Police. I'm still in shock! I feel so violated. Well I got a nice HP Laptop and now I can chat with you all again. I've missed you all. I'll tell you about the good news later.

Line 6 Guitar Port
by Sharky on Sat Aug 20, 2005 12:21 pm
hey i'm planning on learning guitar, and i'm tossing up between buying an amp or the line 6 guitarport. apparently the guitarport can double as a music recorder and an amp (and allows you to add drumming and effects to your riffs) so i was wondering if this little device is any good or not. i think it would be good for me to record my early playing and then compare it as i get better to see how far i've come. also travelling to someone's house won't be a problem because all u need is some speakers, the guitarport and a guitar.
if you guys have any experience with it, i'd like to know whether its better than an amp or not.

Thinking of going all Line 6. Talk to me
by The_Triton on Sun Aug 21, 2005 5:11 am
I need to do my last swap of gear before the wifey and I have kids. I currently have a Crate GX-140D 2x12 that I've been using for the past 6 years. I bought it to play small clubs. I can only turn it up to 1 or 1 1/2 when I do play because the room is too small. So I'd like to switch down to a lower wattage amp. I also want to consolidate everything down to a smaller size as well.

I'm thinking of going all Line 6. Get a 1x12 Spider with the full pedalboard and either a Pod Pro rack mount board or Pod II for effects. That should give me all the sounds and control that I will ever need for tooling around and all the amp modeling to get good tones.

I've only owned Crate amps. So this will be a big switch for me. I'd like to hear some feedback from people that use either the amp or the Pod effects. What are the pro's and con's of this setup.

well l just got back from my friends place, he got a new guitar that has a licensed floyd and i thought id share my first experience.

well my friend got the guitar and tuned it down to C and immediately had trouble tuning it up, as this was his first time he got pretty pissed off and just didnt worry about it. So the next day my friend and I went over to try it out. after figuring out how floyds work i started playing with it and i was determined to tune it up to E flat and have it flush to the body and be able to get those insane harmonic squeals. approx. one 1 hour later i had done it Laughing so after that i stuck my thumb over the top 3 strings and pinky over the bottom 2 and hovered right over that 5th harmonic on the G string. the suspense was building. i pushed the bar down quickly and pulled right back. wow. i defiately got my pull after hearing that blissful squeal.

so that was my first experience, it was well worth the wait of tuning it and i sure wouldnt mind a guitar with a floyd, maybe an FBD if i could afford it Razz

Dean Professional Series
by Anonymous on Mon Aug 22, 2005 12:38 am
Hello all...

After acquiring my TCV, I immediately realized Dean created something very special. I sold my Jackson soloist, my Boris Dommenget, and a few others and have focused on customizing and buying more Deans. A recent attack of G.A.S. prompted wifey (Yes, my wife) to purchase me a new '79 MLF for my birthday. This will be my first Korean guitar (ever!) and have heard some real horror stories. (Korean quality control issues...) So much in fact my local dealer said "If I order it, it's yours..." in other words, it's a disclaimer. (Scary)

So...

Can anyone fill me in on the USA Professional Series? I would love a plain high-end Dean, the customization options would be endless!!!!!!! I know they retail for $1,999.00, but that's all. I have not seen one, found a single review, know anyone who plays one or has one for sale. How to wrap my hands around one? Anybody got one? Before DOA gets here and my wallet explodes! Rolling Eyes

Need help with Digital Delay
by sepsis311 on Mon Aug 22, 2005 2:53 am
Ok, i picked up a Boss DD-20 delay pedal. Thing kicks ass.
Here's what i need to know...

1) Place it in the front of the amp or the effects loop? What's the difference in either case?

2) When used with an OD pedal in the front of the amp, which goes first? It doesn't seem practical to overdrive a digital device, so doesnt the od go after the delay?

3) if the od goes after the delay, then how can you noise suppress the OD without suppressing the delay and killing delay feedback?

4) I guess the ideal solution is to have OD in front, and delay in back. But can any of the other questions be answered first before resorting to this?

I am positive about starting something new, with better musicians and finally get to record something, the only track "we" ever recorded will be on the DOA CD, but it is actually a demo I just recorded all by myself.
Maiden's last Ozzfest Show
by TheOnlyFactor on Mon Aug 22, 2005 5:42 am
I know Blabbermouth isn't the most reliable news source on the net, but did anyone read the stories they have on there about Maiden's last show?
Apparently they were egged, had various other things thrown at them, some jackass painted up like a U.S. flag ran out on stage, someone spit on Bruce, their power got cut something like 5 times, and as they were taking their bows, and thanking the crowd, some tool back stage with a mic starts up an 'Ozzy! Ozzy!' chant, that apparently got flipped right into a Maiden chant by the crowd.
Then the queen of class herself, Sharon comes out to say that she loves Maiden but Bruce is a prick...
That is some serious #$%&#@.

Corporate Lesson 1

A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is
finishing up her shower when the doorbell rings.
The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs
downstairs. When she opens the door, there stands
Bob, the next door neighbor. Before she says a
word, Bob says, "I'll give you $800 to drop that
towel." After thinking for a moment, the woman
drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob.
After a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 dollars
and leaves. The woman wraps back up in the
towel and goes back upstairs. When she gets to
the bathroom, her husband asks, "Who was that?"
"It was Bob the next door neighbor," she replies.
"Great!" the husband says,"Did he say anything
about the $800 he owes me?"

Moral of the story: If you share critical
information pertaining to credit and risk with your
shareholders in time, you may be in a position to
prevent avoidable exposure.

Corporate Lesson 2

A priest offered a lift to a Nun. She got in and
crossed her legs, forcing her gown to reveal a leg.
The priest nearly had an accident. After controlling
the car, he stealthily slid his hand up her leg. The
nun said, Father, remember Psalm 129?" The priest
removed his hand. But, changing gears, he let his
hand slide up her leg again. The nun once again
said, Father, remember Psalm 129?" The priest
apologized "Sorry sister but the flesh is weak."
Arriving at the convent, the nun went on her way.
On his arrival at the church, the priest rushed to
look up Psalm 129. It said, "Go forth and seek,
further up, you will find glory."

Moral of the story: If you are not well informed
in your job, you might miss a great opportunity.

Corporate Lesson 3

A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the

to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without
a care in the world." Poof! She's gone. "Me next!
Me next!" says the sales rep. "I want to be in
Hawaii, relaxing on the beach with my personal
masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the
love of my life." Poof! He's gone. "OK, you're up,"
the Genie says to the manager. The manager says,
"I want those two back in the office after lunch."

Moral of the story: Always let your boss have the
first say.

Corporate Lesson 4

A crow was sitting on a tree, doing nothing all day. A
rabbit asked him, Can I also sit like you and do nothing
all day long?" The crow answered: Sure, why not." So,
the rabbit sat on the ground below the crow, and
rested. A fox jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Moral of the story: To be sitting and doing nothing,
you must be sitting very high up.

Corporate Lesson 5

A turkey was chatting with a bull. "I would love
to be able to get to the top of that tree," sighed
the turkey, but I haven't got the energy." "Well,
why don't you nibble on my droppings?" replied the
bull. "They're packed with nutrients." The turkey
pecked at a lump of dung and found that it gave him
enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the
tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he
reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth
night, there he was proudly perched at the top of
the tree. Soon he was spotted by a farmer, who shot
the turkey out of the tree.

Moral of the story: #$%&#@ might get you to
the top, but it won't keep you there.

A couple of recent projects
by Mike9 on Tue Aug 23, 2005 12:44 am
Here's shots of a couple of recent projects. The first is my Agile 2500 Swamp Ash Les Paul. I was only going to put new pickups in it, but got carried away Laughing I ended up scraping the neck clean and shaving it down - round at the nut to a flat at the neck joint - thin and comfy. Rubbed a few coats of lemon oil/vanish solution into it and it's slick as hot poonyaki. I did a complete fret job on it - level, crown and dress. I added locking tuners and did my tone pros mod to the bridge and tail piece. Last but not least I installed DiMarzio Zebras - Evolution in the bridge and Humbucker from Hell in the neck. I figured since this is a swamp ash body with a maple neck it should have some Straty qualities . . . and I was right. The action is a mere 1.5mm low E @ 17 and 1.1mm high E @ 17 with no buzz anywhere on the neck. I think I'll keep this one for a while. Cool

Image
Image
Image

Next up is a 1954 Gretch Savoy X150 that a friend of mine owns. I added another P-90, 3-way switch and all new electronics. Next I fixed a nasty bridge problem (tailpiece not original), dressed the frets gave it a good setup and last, but least added the pinup decal. Tell you what - this thing is FAT sounding!!! I wish I owned it. It's gold because when he bought it someone had painted it flat black with a brush!!!! Shocked

I was searching around on ebay and found someone was selling one of those lifesize standups of Dimebag you get from the Dean shop for a buy it now price of $149. I emailed the buddy telling him I know what his scam is and I think is is another one that is trying to make a buck off Dimes death. Heres what he wrote to me in response.

"gar YOU CUUNT! i'll do what i want when i want, and don't need some whiny little bitch telling me what to do. it's an over-protective fag like you that got him killed in the first place! if you write me again I will turn you over to ebay. DIE motherf@#$%"

Seems to me he got pissed because someone saw that hes trying to make a buck off of him and then has the nerve to say this to me. What a loser.

Ok....I can see why we have it to censor curse words and the like but WTF is up with it censoring ANY other guitar brand besides Dean??? I think it makes us look a bit egotistical like we think Deans are the ONLY guitars worth anything and all others are crap.... Deans are friggin awesome, dun get me wrong, but other guitars are good too and the I think that censoring them just makes us look bad to other people.... Confused Just my 2-cents....anyone else concur with me or am I alone on this one?????

What do you guys think of $695 CAD (around $580 USD)? I know a few of you in here are cheap guys Razz Wink and have experience in dealing with prices, so If I were to walk in with cash, how low do you think they'd go?

New Job
by metalhead on Wed Aug 24, 2005 3:29 am
Hey Guys,

Just wanted to tell you guys about a new job I have assumed. As well as my day job, I am now helping run Charlie Wayne Productions. Who's Charlie Wayne you might ask? Well Charlie is a Dean endorser and teams with Ron Keel as part of Keel & Wayne. Charlie was the front man for 80's band Hawk which also featured Doug Marks of Metal Method guitars lessons fame, was one time front man for the Bulletboys and played in various bands on the Sunset Strip during the 80's with members of Guns N Roses,Poison,Keel and King Kobra. While living in Nashville he has fronted his own bands, first The Charlie Wayne Band and then The Ticks. Currently Charlie and Ron are getting ready to hit the road on another leg of the Acoustic Outcasts Tour that also features Don Dokken,Kelly Keeling(Baton Rouge,MSG,George Lynch,King Kobra),Terry Ilous(XYZ) and JK Northrup(XYZ,King Kobra) in mid September. If they come to your town check it out as it is a great show. Charlie is getting ready to release a new complilation album featuring tracks from his old albums called "The Best of Charlie Wayne-The Metal Years 1985-2005". It features 18 tracks including 3 live tracks. We are doing a pre-sale of this album for $15 plus $3 shipping and handling. This album is really good! I spent a lot of time with Charlie helping pick the tracks and is very worth wild album to listen to. Charlie will be autographing all the pre-sales cds. Below is a link to PayPal if you would like to purchase one. We will be taking pre-sale orders through September 3rd and will have the cds ready to ship by September 15th. Charlie is also planning on coming to DOA this year if he is not on the road. I hope my fellow DOA brothers will check this album out!

WHADDA YA THINK ABOUT THAT?!?!
by FBDcontestwinner on Wed Aug 24, 2005 9:39 am
its been a while since i been around a computer and i finally got time to write. i got my fbd in mid july. got home from work, walk in the house and saw a big as dean box in front of my door. i almost dumped my pants. i put it throught a rigourous test, and having not payed for it,, i can say (without byass) this is the best guitar i've ever played.

(now for the sweet part)

they sent the guitar and the case seperatly so the case arrived three weeks after the guitar. i didn't mind one bit. then, once again, i get home from work and theres another bigass dean box sittin there. i think "cool, my case is here." so i go and take a shower, get relaxed and all that. then i open the box and pull out the case. i think "well this sure is heafty for JUST a case". then i get this chill up my spine. i think "no way, they couldn't have. they didn't..." i set it down and open it very slowly with my eyes closed. its open all the way and i open my eyes and then...i schit my pants. i mean there is literally schit everywhere, its down my legs, all overe the floor, i mean, im literally sitting in my own feces, but i can't move because im paralized at the sight of the beautiful, unscathed fbd. thats right. im now the proud owner of two Far Beyond Driven tribute ml guitars. and at no cost to me. i however beleive it is a mistake and i even emailed web guy pete explaining my fortunate situation. that was july 20th. i've not yet had a response. i'm giving him one more month to reply before i do with it as i please. if i don't hear from him, i will either sell it, trade it, or keep it and use it for different tunings.

this whole contest has changed my life. as arogant as it my sound, i like to believe that i had some help from a higher being (cough dimebag cough cough) excuse me...dry throat Wink . it has help me decide my future and next week i will begin working toward a degree in music at uaf. for the longest time music was the only thing that mattered to me and this contest solidified it.

thats it for now. i'll post a few pictures soon so you can see how lucky i am. peace.

i would like to make it claer that i did not schit my pant. i only threw that in there to spice things up. hell, i haven't even schit my pants since i was 8. ...ok 9 and a half. happy? Embarassed

Wireless Part 2
by Kragax on Wed Aug 24, 2005 2:12 pm
I won a wireless on Ebay for less than 30.00 so I thought what the hell. It is a VHF audio technicia Brand X. I have to say that I was really impressed after all the scuttle I heard here. Now as a disclaimer my studio is in a rural setting so the is no interference so far. The trucks going by haven''t given me any problems with CB yet either. The is a high/low setting that I have been running on low so that may explain it in part. I mainly wanted it so when I need to make an adjustment on the board I don't have to put the guitar down and for that it works well. My Bud is going to be giging out in town this weekend and he is going to give it a test for "urban interference" . If we ever go out again I will probably buy UHF, one of our dealers offered to hook me up at a good price. But for now this is working better than I expected. I guess its one of those things you just have to try for yourself because it will vary so much from area to area.

Boca
by Laudanum on Wed Aug 24, 2005 3:54 pm
Every time someone posts y'all ask for pictures so ...

Here's the story. I picked up this Boca a few months back brand new for a bit of change under $200. I was looking for a HB so I figured the price was right and I really like the rest of my Deans so why not. It's a really nice playing, comfortable instrument definitely easily worth the original street price but a real steal at under 200 bucks. Anyway, I always thought this guit needed chrome covered buckers and it would look much classier. I wanted to change the pups on the Boca so I figured before I decided on new PUPs I would cover the stocks to check out the look. I haven't spent alot of time playing the boca since covering the pickups but in this case, it actually sounds better. More of a vintage tone with the stock pups covered than open. I still need to decide what pups I want to put on this guitar but I'm definitely leaning toward a vintage sound.

I hope the picture shows and you can see well enough with the flash off of the chrome covers. I think that most familiar with the Boca will agree that the covered pups improve the look of this cool little semi-hollow body.

Mogami Cables
by sepsis311 on Wed Aug 24, 2005 4:23 pm
Ok, well i went to guitar center to pick up some high quality shielded cables yesterday. The one's i had were old, and were recieving hum from the amp in the effects loop. I ended up getting 4 18' Mogami cables. The guy at GC said they cost less than Monster Cables, and don't change the frequencies like MC's do. They cost about 40 bucks each, so yea, 160 bucks for 4 cables.

On the ride home i felt ripped off, but then I hooked my pedal board and amp up with them, i couldn't beleive how much better everything sounded. I usually use my 5150 at post gain 4 1/2. Now i keep it at 3, because the definition i guess of the higher frequencies aren't lost anymore, and the hum in the effects loop is gone. I just had to tell someone, hehe.
Ten Thousand Fists....
by Dimebag on Wed Aug 24, 2005 6:03 pm
Hi all....

Well, today I was having a colleque (spelling?? "someone I work with") riding with me to work, and he pulled out a CD that he said I should hear... OK, I said, and he put it in the player... Well, to my VERY big surprise, I was listening to Disturbed's new album, called Ten Thousand Fists, and it is scheduled to hit the streets around 20th of September... Well, as much as I tried, I couldn't get him to tell where he had it from, so I decided to just listen... Since it's a little more than a 1 hour drive, I got to hear the entire album, and my honest oppinion is :
It's the best Disturbed album yet!!!!
Well, it has the agressiveness of Sickness, yet the more "trained" Draiman-vocals from Believe are there too... Oh, and Donegan is playing solos this time.... He can actually shred...
It's bound to be the album of the year in my book, I think...
I, for one, will be standing in line when the shops open on September 20th... Smile

...just wanted to share... Very Happy

I asked this before and never got a real answer, then one just like this popped up on Ebay, and I got even more confused. Someone said this was a Standard, but reading into other threads, I want to think it's a Select. It has the wrong neck joint from what I can tell (I'm still new at ID'ing Deans), a pretty flat neck (I'm not sure what that qualifies as as far as shape), and it's MIK. Please help me Dean masters!!!! I must know!!!

MY FILM - Music Video :)
by Nileman on Thu Aug 25, 2005 12:43 pm
Ok, hello Smile

Last or this year (i dont remember Razz ) i made music video, for school project, (but not only) and i want to share it, get some opinions and stuff Smile

Music is Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" (classical music), i think you know it, its pretty well - known

This was supposed to be based on a Trytaios poetry, a Spartan poet, who wrot war-connected poems.
And this video shows this in some different light, and perspective Smile

It was recorded by a simple analog camera, so no fireworks here Very Happy

Technical stuff : Its not so big for a video, 20 MB file, in a rmvb format, or smth like that. Lasts for about 6 minutes. Quality is quite good...

You can download player here : 1,4 MB - Real Media Alternative
here you go : http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm

I think i said it all. Ask, if you want Smile

The first, opening quote says:

"Young men, fight shield to shield and never
succumb
to panic or miserable flight,
but steel the heart in your chests with
magnificence
and courage.

The ending one:

" Forget your own life
when you grapple with the enemy. Never run
and let an old soldier collapse
whose legs have lost their power. "

Ok, here's the video link:

Enjoy, and im waiting for comments! Very Happy

I just thought that this was interesting as there was a television show on the other night about this sort of thing. An undercover cop who couldn't sing at all went into one of these places and of course, as long as the money was there, they said she was great and would be the next big thing...........until the money was gone....

It's been around for a long time, but we recently moved to a better server or something like that. Anyways, if you're a fan of music, video games, sports, and mainly horror movies, then you should check it out. I don't want to spam, so the link is in my signature. Wink

by wwjd388 on Fri Aug 26, 2005 7:44 am
Ok so i was browsing eBay and i came across a flying V bass by Dean! I have been looking at Epiphone V basses for awhile but i cam across this Dean which was cheaper and looked like it played well and (hopefully) sounded good.

Anyways, I was wondering why Dean no longer makes them and if anyone knows where i can find one?

thanks in advance!

Darwin Awards

Darwin Award Winners:

1. When his 38-caliber revolver failed to fire at his intended victim
during a hold-up in Long Beach, California, would-be robber James Elliot did something that can only inspire wonder. He peered down the barrel and tried the trigger again. This time it worked..... And now, the honorable mentions:

2. The chef at a hotel in Switzerland lost a finger in a meat cutting machine and, after a little hopping around, submitted a claim to his insurance company. The company expecting negligence, sent out one of its men to have a look for himself. He tried the machine and lost a finger. The chef's claim was approved.

3. A man who shoveled snow for an hour to clear a space for his car during a blizzard in Chicago returned with his Vehicle to find a woman had taken the space. Understandably, he shot her.

4. After stopping for drinks at an illegal bar, a Zimbabwean bus driver found that the 20 mental patients he was supposed to be transporting from Harare to Bulawayo had escaped. Not wanting to admit his incompetence, the driver went to a nearby bus stop and offered everyone waiting there a free ride. He then delivered the passengers to the mental hospital, telling the staff that the patients were very excitable and prone to bizarre fantasies.
The deception wasn't discovered for 3 days.

5. An American teenager was in the hospital recovering from serious head wounds received from an oncoming train. When asked how he received the injuries, the lad told police that he was simply trying to see how close he could get his head to a moving train before he was hit.

6. A man walked into a Louisiana Circle-K, put a $20 bill on the counter, and asked for change. When the clerk opened the cash drawer, the man pulled a gun and asked for all the cash in the register, which the
clerk promptly provided. The man took the cash from the clerk and fled, leaving the $20 bill on the counter. The total amount of cash he got from the drawer...$15. (If someone points a gun at you and gives you money, is a crime committed?)

7. Seems an Arkansas guy wanted some beer pretty badly. He decided that he'd ju st throw a cinder block through a liquor store window, grab some booze, and run. So he lifted the cinder block and heaved it over his head at the window. The cinder block bounced back and hit the would-be thief on the head, knocking him unconscious. The liquor store window was made of Plexiglas. The whole event was caught on videotape.

8. As a female shopper exited a New York convenience store, a man grabbed her purse and ran. The clerk called 911 immediately, and the woman was able to give them a detailed description of the snatcher. Within minutes, the police apprehended the snatcher. They put him in the car and drove back to the store. The thief was then taken out of the car and told to stand there for a positive ID. To which he replied, "Yes, officer, that's her. That's the lady I stole the purse from."

9. The Ann Arbor News crime column reported that a man walked into a Burger King in Ypsilanti, Michigan, at 5 a.m., flashed a gun, demanded cash. The clerk turned him down because he said he couldn't open the cash register without a food order. When the man ordered onion rings, the clerk said they weren't available for breakfast. The man, frustrated, walked away.

10. When a man attempted to siphon gasoline from a motor home parked on a Seattle street, he got much more than he bargained for. Police arrived at the scene to find a very sick man curled up next to a motor home near spilled sewage. A police spokesman said that the man admitted to trying to steal gasoline and plugged his siphon hose into th e motor home's sewage tank by mistake. The owner of the vehicle declined to press charges, saying that it was the best laugh he'd ever had.
