Something cool i found, Corey from Trivium talks about Deans
by -JiMi DRiX- on Wed Nov 01, 2006 5:06 am
Found this on Ultimate-Guitar.com, just thought that i would share. and lets keep all the negativity out of this thread, please.

What is it about the Dean guitars that you couldn’t find in a Fender or a Schecter?

Growing up, I never played a Dean. They were gone for a while because Dean wasn’t around. I had never played a Dean or really seen one because from where I lived, I never really got to see it. I had an Ibanez and B.C. Rich. Then I really liked Jackson and when we first started out, I was playing Jackson and stuff. I liked those guitars because I really liked the V and I loved Mustaine, and that was like his main guitar for a long time, the Jackson KV. I was all into that. Then Dime’s wife, Rita, who is a friend of ours, we did a Dime tribute on the anniversary and she let us borrow some of his old Washburn guitars. We played them and they sounded great and they played awesome. We were like, “Wow, these things play amazing!” She’s like, “Well, if you like the way the Washburns play, you should try out the Deans. They’re awesome.” So she got us each a Razorback, and we played them and really liked the necks.

As far as being like a metal guy and playing fast leads, the way the guitars are built, they’re just so easy to play. They’re really easy on your hands. The way the neck is bowed, like the semi-V kind of cut, it’s round on the neck but it’s got that kind of groove in it where it fits in your palm really nice. And the way the frets are, it’s just a really nice, high-quality guitar. They play great, they sound awesome, and I love the way they play. So it’s like ever since we tried them out, regardless that Dime played them and they’re his signature guitars, they’re just great guitars. It doesn’t have to be a Dime guitar, it could be just like a regular Dean guitar. Just the quality of their guitars and how much quality control they put into their product, I can see it and I can feel it when I play the guitar. I had never played one before and the first time I played them, I was sold. I was like, “These things play great.
played a genz benz el diablo today
by j.arledge on Wed Nov 01, 2006 5:46 am
well another music shop opened up in town and my guitar teacher is working there , so anways long story short they are going to be a genz benz dealer along with hamer , breedlove, ovation, and two other acoustic lines i forgot .

the genz benz el diablo 100 head and 2x12 g-flex combo .

the clean channle .

the clean was nice , i dont know exactly how to describe it . Just a very nice warm clean tone .

next there is sort of a crunch option. i forget the exact name of the option but it added a nice vintage sort of smooth overdrive . it wasn't vintage marshall style crunch but a nice useable tone .

the lead channle

it had a vintage and modern setting. the vintage setting leaves off from the "crunch" of the clean to fairly distored . this was more of a typical british marshall tone. I dont like crunch so this setting would be fairly useless to me .

the modern setting was more compressed and had much more gain . It was pretty cool , overall the amp has some simularities to other amps but is uniquly voiced on its own and i think this setting lets you know that . again i can't compare it totally to anything eles i have played . Even though compressed the amp seemed fairly dry . I could see how it would suit a metal player's needs very well and although the in between channles weren't of use to me i can apperciate thier practicality to other players needing a tone of versitlity .

overall i wasn't overly impressed with the genz benz head but i didn't go through the settings fully and comprehensivly so i dont think it is nessicarly fair to say it was bad or that there isn't a setting i dont like.

I was impressed with the 2x12 cab . It could produce a huge thick bass. The mids and highs were nice , the highs weren't shrill and the mids had a nice rich nature. This cab probably wouldn't sound good with a vintage amp but for you metal or rock guys i think the cab would shine with a high gain amp .

Anyways i am going to go back and talk to my teacher and the owner so see if they wont do some sound clips or a video demoing the amp because at one point before i got my mesa i was looking at the el diablo but i cound't find any sound clips or a whole lot of info on what they sounded like . So i'll get back to you guys on maybe getting some sound clips posted.

if you are looking for a genz benz el diablo 100 head , the 2x12 g-flex cab , or the tribal 60 head or cab let me know and i'll certainly get you in touch with thier shop .

Will you buy a Rebel Flag Dime model?
by jbailes on Thu Nov 02, 2006 1:31 am
I know alot are planning to get the Dixie Rebel when it comes out, myself included. But alot of people get pretty uppity when they see that Confederate flag.
Just the other day, I was in the grocery store, wearing a Skynyrd baseball cap that has the Rebel flag superimposed in the letters, and people were looking at me like I was a Klansman or something. And this is in Orlando, which is geographically a Southern town, but not culturally. Here, you'll find 50 people with a Brooklyn accent before you find one with a Southern accent.
It's not my intention to turn turn this into a debate about the Civil War or s#%t like that, but people are are gonna think whatever they choose. I was just wondering what your thoughts were concerning this. Thanks.

It was my first time jamming with someone of my ability and damn it was cool. I love harmony now, we couldn't get enough of harmonising parts, it was so awesome.

I'll post the song when it's done...I'm kinda intimidated though cause all of ya'll are amazing players and in comparison I'm pretty s#%t but ah sure I'll give it a shot!

Looking for some opinions.
by Panties on Fri Nov 03, 2006 1:09 am
I just started this new job, right. Being 18 and living at home means that I have a lot of money to throw around. I currently own a Washburn Dime V with the pickups I want... basically a sick guitar that doesn't really need any improving other than the name on the headstock. I play through a Behringer LX1200H head into a Laney 4x12 cab. I love both the amp and the cab, but I'm sure the amp could be EASILY upgraded.

Here's my predicament. I want many new toys... I would like to get a few new amps, some guitars, and some effects & rack gear (noise gate). I'm making really decent money for a kid fresh out of high school so the waiting game isn't really that bad for me.

I have set up these purchases:

Dean Razorback Explosion - roughly 1000$
Blacked out 79 MLF w/ Dimebucker - roughly 800$
ENGL Savage - roughly 1500$
Randall Warhead - roughly 500$

I don't know which I need first... I WAS thinking Razorback, then ENGL or Warhead and then the MLF but I'm not really sure anymore. I could really use a guitar with a floyd and I already own a V... Not too partial to the Z shape so I'm stuck with ML/Razorback. I like those a lot, though.

What do you guys think? I'll eventually be buying them all, I just need to know what order would work best.

Thanks

forgive me if im way off base w/ this one but i was lookin at the dimebag wiki and I came across the following passage.

Quote:
Dimebag Wiki
Several months before his death, Darrell ended his long relationship with Washburn guitars, and again became a Dean endorsee as Dean Guitars was bought and reopened by Dean Zelinsky.

Like I said, forgive me if im just in the dark on this one, but I thought Dean Z. was just officially a consultant and someone else actually owned the company?

edit:

whoops forgot to stick the link to the wiki I was lookin at in. My bad.

Rust question, USA Deans on Ebay...
by Anonymous on Sat Nov 04, 2006 1:18 pm
OK guys, first one: FAKE or FIX.

This is an auction for what APPEARS to be a USA Rust Razorback. Paint looks real, but the guy says Rosewood fingerboard. Anyway, it was MAULED in shipping. 2.5" gash in tolex, and neck cracks both sides, top AND bottom. A break looks imminent, but that's just my opinion. IF it's real, someone possibly got this one for the price of a shipping claim, and perhaps he could be reasoned with and told that $2500.00 is absurd for something as BROKEN as thing is. Here's the link, I would really like to hear everyone's thoughts on it.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Dean-Dimebag-Razorback-Tribute-Guitar-Blem_W0QQitemZ290045859360QQihZ019QQcategoryZ2384QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Also, I did a search for Dean Guitars USA and was BLOWN AWAY by the deals. Tons of colors, natural, red, green, in all shapes, HT, V, Z, ML, from 550 up, (Don't even think about it, that ML is MINE!!! Wink ) a few nice ones for a grand or LESS! That green HT was just reduced to 1K as well. I don't think I have ever seen this many USA Deans on Ebay; perhaps a market for TC's is evolving. Some killer prices though, and Jody's got some nice inventory too. Has anyone ever tried an Exotiglass????

I know that you're supposed to be in a certain vibe or mood when you write original songs, but I haven't been able to write ANYTHING since I wrote my first 2 pieces for a band at this time last year. A ballad and a speed metal song, and they both just poured right out of me. I hardly needed to even put thought into it that's how they came out. But it's been so long, and I've gotten a lot better at playing but... nothin' comes out. Y'kno? Have any of you ever had this problem? How'd you deal with it?

Just arrived from Ian, 1996 USA Z. Seymour Duncan PUPS, and Ebony fretboard. I don't have a scale but I'll bet this thing weights 12-13LBS which is fine by me because I prefer a heavy guitar. This must be normal for this model because I spoke to Jeepster about buying his 1996 Z and he commented about it weighing 13.5 Lbs. The finish on this thing is really cool. It color changes. It is Blue or green depending on which angle you look at it from. Enjoy the pics and let me know what you think.

The night we made the EMO's cry
by Lanning is Killdozer on Sun Nov 05, 2006 8:55 pm
So like I said in an earlier thread, Friday night we headlined the worst possible scenario. 3 EMO bands opened for us. All the little makup clad PU$$IES were there talking about love and wasted time. How the club owner thought about putting us with them is a question that will baffle me forever. We had to share a dressing room with one of the bands. I walked out 3 different times to laugh at the faggy chatter. Anyway here is a pictoral of the EMOs and us.

Here are the EMO's setting up after we put our backline up. We even let them use our drum set. They are already complaining that our stuff is in the way.

Brian, our bassist is happily sitting backstage drinking his non european mountainous mineral water. He was trying not to laugh at the post hippy love fest going on.
Image
Here is an EMO guy I tried to get along with. He tried to be cool with us and although he was nice his attemps were for not.
Image
Here are, Steve our singer left, and Matt our drummer right, standing in the hallway to the dressingroom trying to understand what the hell the guys in the next photo are talking about.
Image
They were looking at a photo album of horses and talking about creating life or something.
Image
Here is PJ. He is my friend who does my tattoos. He is ready to kill the little bastids, but the free beer and my White Gold are keeping him at bay.
Image
The little EMOtional guy on the top of the screen is the singer of the band who went on before us. I think he might have been into DOODS. Image
This is John aka Miskimmin here on the Dean forum. He is flashing his badge to let everyone know he is with SILVERTUNG and not one of the EMOists.
Image
Here John trys to come to grips with the EMO talk going on in the background.
Image
Lastly there is ME. I am drowning my laughter and general EMO hating fellings in cold cold beer.
Image
I would have posted live pics, but it would have been worthless. The little "Crying Game" babies didn't appreciate raw hard rock originals. That and I think when we started to play Walk they all left because the 30 or so folks who like us were ready to start linching EMO kids. Anyway that is all for now. I hope this next week is better for us.

Elitist pickups in my Cadillac
by floatpimp on Mon Nov 06, 2006 12:42 am
Picked up a set of Elitist pickups and pots a while back . Finally swapped them out in ny Red Quilt MIK Caddy. These are the real deal. USA made. Sound like a set of classic 57's with a little more bite. Gibson Customer service desribed them as a 490R and 490T set. No wonder the Elitist series are somewhat sought after in a cult sense.

I cannot stand the Gibson marketing strategy of Megalow Mart ala King of the Hill, but they do make some nice guitars and electronics here in the USA. Too bad they are A holes about controlling the market.

In light of the ERG fiasco, I did make some killer deals on the Trans green Z run, a czech korina V and a BBV. Probably wouldn't have picked them up if the deals were not so sweet. Thanks Gibson, for pushing me into buying more Deans.

VOX AD15VT and DA15 Question
by dan_plus_o on Mon Nov 06, 2006 4:18 am
On the specs for the vox AD15VT and DA15 it says that the amp has a line/phone jack on the back. What does that mean?? Is it an input jack or an output jack? It sounds like it would be an output jack for headphones.

If so that sucks! I am wanting to get a small little amp I can move around but I want one with a input for guitar and input for other stuff. The kustom arrow 16 has two input jacks and that is what I am thinking but the Vox amps sound better and they have digital effects. I have a drum machine that would need to be clean while the guitar is distorted. And I also have a jamman wich would require Loop send and Loop return jacks.

So I guess the smaller vox amps don't have that. What is another good amp that has efx loop in/out jacks? Something around 15-30 watts.

Or is it possible to install a input jack that passes the distortion part and just goes clean? Because then I could use the Line jack on the vox to jamman and then from jamman to that clean input.

Why can't they just make amps with fracken EFX Loop in and out jacks!!!
Little help theory wise
by j.arledge on Mon Nov 06, 2006 6:33 am
So i have a problem with how to continue on an idea or riff . I'll get an idea or play a cool little riff but i dont know how to add to it and what i use rythem wise . Like i'll be playing something in A minor pentatonic or one of it's modes or some combination of both so how would i put chords to what i am doing and then how do i move to the next position? Is all that relavent to the certain note combination or riff i am playing ?

oh and one other thing , how do the shred teams harmonize ? Like AX7 or trivium do sometimes ? Is it just playing everything rised by the Fifth or the fourth or what ?

anyways that stuff is pissing me off because i'll try to record something and it either sounds empty or like crap . It feels like i am missing a true harmonic underpinning and majority of the time a lack of logical direction. I can listen to people and generally tell how they will continue on a theme or motive but i can't apply that to me personally, and also i am trying to become more expressive but in the end it all just sounds like crap shred .

GNX3000 users
by Lanning is Killdozer on Mon Nov 06, 2006 7:10 pm
I no longer have a GNX3000, however I have the "Supermodels" programs on my laptop that I ripped off the disk that costs $60.00. If any of you want it I will send it to you as an attachment in an e-mail if you PM me. It has everything you need to get massive tone out of your GNX. The programs in this set make the original GNX sounds seem anorexic. It also has may different new amps to include Marshall Mode 4, Diezel amps and tons of stuff not on the GNX when you get it from the factory.

Hey guys, i am on the lookout for a smaller combo amp, i have decided to sell my peavey valveking 112 as its too big and the 50 watts are too much. so i am basically on the lookout for a combo amp that is about 30 watts and is ideal for playing the heaviest of metal!! Twisted Evil

I would appreciate any of your ideas as i am scouring the internet at the minute and harmony central has lost my trust, but the people around here have ALL my trust! Smile Wink

Dean FBD Owners....
by 4x12 on Tue Nov 07, 2006 7:18 am
Well I bought my FBD about a year ago as a collection piece
from Jon @ FunkyMunky (awesome service BTW!!). My 1ST intentions for this guitar was to hang it and admire it and
later on get another one to beat up and jam up. I stated
using this axe more and more these last couple of months
so tonight I changed the strings on it... what I've seen going through and setting her up is making me wonder if what I
bought is actually the quality I was actually hoping for... or
did I get a lemon?

For one, look at the pic below. Where the Floyds two post are theres a small metal plate there... is that normal ? the only other time I've seen this was when another Floyd unit needed to be installed for more support or to reinforce the existing post. Does any of your FBD's have this plate going accross it???

Image

Two, when I flipped her over to remove the springs I notice something else that I really didn't like.... and gain, this is the 1st time I see something like this... Does your FBD have these two holes in it?? notice inside the holes you can see the screw that holds the pickup and the Floyd post.

Image

I just want to know if anyone else has noticed this the FBD... are they all made like this? was mine a botched up guitar that just got put together and moved out??

I'd like to get some of your input on this... might be nothing, but it kinda bothers me.

Tunings - What do you mostly play in?
by TRENDKILLCFH333 on Tue Nov 07, 2006 8:55 pm
I'm just wondering what tunings are preferred amongst the Dean brethren.

Personally, I like standard & 1/2 step down for playing classic rock & surf guitar & C# for playing heavy metal.

I'm not a fan of dropped tuning though.

Asked to give a Guitar clinic!
by Ebut on Wed Nov 08, 2006 1:00 pm
I got asked to give a guitar clinic at a primary school [grade 7, I believe in your terms] tomorrow.

Very looking forward to it, and got some stuff prepared, but anyone got any tips on what I should talk about?

I got guitars, amps and stompboxes covered, and yeah, I am bringing the Dean VX since we are gonna melt some faces given the fact that I bring along my co-guitarist.

So we play a little, explain a lot, let them play a bit, answer questions, typical stuff I reckon, but anyone got any more tips/hints on what to do/explain?

I pulled the trigger on a 1981 Ibanez Artist
by Blazer on Wed Nov 08, 2006 7:36 pm
Okay then, as I said before I wasn't really going ape about the performance of my Gibson Nighthawk, the overall feel of the guitar and the lacklustre sound made it clear that this wasn't what I am looking for.

So I have been checking out several options on what I could replace it with. For a while I was going for the Les Paul Junior but just a few days ago, somebody came up and went "Yo, I heard you're selling your Gibson, wanna trade?"

This is what he offered.

7 String Guitar Ideas?
by jbailes on Wed Nov 08, 2006 7:57 pm
Hello,

I'd like to try a 7 string, but I don't really want to get a super expensive one, yet at the same time, not a piece of s#%t. This would be my first exposure to 7 strings, so I don't know if it'll be just a novelty, or what. Your input on brands or particular models is appreciated.

Pretty soon I will be getting my first Dean...a DFH, and I was wondering what gauge strings come on the beast? The strings I generally use are Ernie Ball Super Slinky (pink) but if it will be easier I am willing to change. If not I'll just get my local guitar guy to do me a setup.

Just seen Michael Angelo at a dean workshop \ gig. WOW!
by Bjornage on Wed Nov 08, 2006 10:56 pm
The other day I was walking through town and I saw a poster saying that MAB himself was coming to my little town in the south east corner of england. Tickets were ony £5 so I snapped one up.

Ive just got back and I can hardly beleive it, it was totally amazing. I mean, ive seen setev vai live before and this guy was right in that league.

I know some people will tell me reasons why one is better than the other but this show had no fancy planning or production, no light show. Just MAB, a guitar and an amp, not even any effects and no one was bored even for a second. His inbetween song stories and even Dean plugs kept everyone captivated.

I almost walked away with a new guitar but changed my mind at the last minute after remembering my credit card balance.

All in all a great show and was great to meet some guys from Bill Lewington, they confirmed for me that the Razor V with string thru I want so badly would indeed take an eternity to materialise.

What a great advert for Dean this night was.

Got some more work today. The outline of the crossed V's on the bottom, one is my USA Pro and the other is my soon to come Single pup USA TC. I didn't have any of the shading on that done tonight because the elbow and the inside of the elbow are a real experience in pain. The two humbucker one is going to be cherry and the TC are going to be purple flame maple just like my actual guitars. I will get the rest of the shading done next in there next week. The eagle in the middle was touched up. The lightning bolts on the top were highlighted with white. The front and rear of the arm were shaded in with grey washed smoke. He also put "CFH" in smoke on the rear for me. There are some faces coming out of there too. Lots more to come, but I had to go out to dinner tonight so I have to finish later on in the month. Here are some photos of the progress.

EMG After Burner? Replace tone pot?
by dan_plus_o on Thu Nov 09, 2006 9:46 pm
Hello, I am wondering if I will be able to replace the neck pickup ton epot for the EMG After Burner. I have EMG 81 and 85 in my guitar right now.

If I remove the tone pot for the neck pickup will it sound as if the knob was turned up all the way?? Or if I remove the tone pot will it sound like the tone is turned all the way down?

Is the EMG AB the same size of the tone pot? Will it fit in the same hole? Will it be able to use the knobs that I have on the other pots??

Also, will it work with the 18v mod?

Guitarist slain onstage joins walk of fame
By JOHN AUSTIN
STAR-TELEGRAM STAFF WRITER

The Dallas Hard Rock Cafe added a star honoring slain guitar player "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott to its walk of fame in a ceremony Thursday night.

Abbott, along with his brother, drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott, were part of Pantera, one of the most acclaimed metal bands of the 1990s.

The brothers were performing with Damageplan, a band they formed after leaving Pantera, when Darrell Abbott was fatally shot onstage in Columbus, Ohio, on Dec. 8, 2004. He was 38.

The guitarist lived in Dalworthington Gardens at the time of his death and is buried in Arlington.

After the star unveiling, Vinnie Paul Abbott and Darrell's longtime companion, Rita Haney, presented the Dean guitar Darrell Abbott used on Pantera's "101 Proof" tour.

Last year the pair presented another guitar "Dime" had owned to the Hard Rock cafe in San Antonio, according to a report in the San Antonio Express-News.

Other musicians with stars in the Dallas walk of fame include Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Texas trio ZZ Top.

An absolutely beautiful 79 transbraziliaburst MLF. The hottest thing I've ever laid eyes on. I've never posted pictures before though so if they dont' turn out.. well bear with me.

Even though it's not a Dean, I'm gonna post a pic of my '84 gibby explorer anyway!

[img]http://s82.photobucket.com/albums/j245/cowboy_from_hell_90/?action=view&current=101_0122.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch8[/img]

Anyhoo, the Dean's floyd was pretty NOT parallel to the body. I decided I wanted to do everything myself with this baby, so I popped the back of the guitar and tightened the springs. Now, while I was doing this, I neglected to loosen the strings so I spent a good hour and a half adjusting both the spring and string tension. It's so simple to adjust that stuff I actually feel bad for the guys that go to techs for this.

And finally, this guitar will be blacked out very soon. A black original floyd, a dimarzio X2N, duncan full shred and black grover tuners will be on this baby as soon as they come in from ebay. I'll gladly post before/after pics for anyone that wants'em.

At last! I feel like I belong on the DEAN forum!

Pedal Decision
by Hot Sauce on Sat Nov 11, 2006 4:39 am
So. I want an EQ. I don't want to spend over 60 bucks, but I want a good eq pedal that sounds good. I can't decide between the DOD EQ or the Danelectro Fish & Chips EQ. I'll be running it with a Boss DS-1 Distortion, a Boss Super Chorus, and a Morley Bad Horsie 2.
Who here has ever built a guitar before?
by Treggator on Sat Nov 11, 2006 6:17 am
So heres the deal, I moved to a new city a few months ago and at the new house we had a tree that was rediculously (dangerously) close to the house. So my folks had it cut down, and I later found out that it was an ash tree. So I was thinking of (trying) to make a guitar out of some of it, just for fun kinda thing. I was looking for some pointers on how start off. So far, my peices of wood (I have sections of wood about each 1 foot tall and 18 inches to two feet in diamter) so far look somewhat like tree trunks. So any pointers on getting started and choosing the right peice of wood would be awesome.
Effects questions! [GLX]

I hear more and more good stuff about those GLX pedals.
Are they any good, who has some actual experience with those??

And I am interested in a compression sustainer pedal and noisegate pedal [those GLX ones]. But what exactly do they do? And what is my gain if I get those?
Those gold covered pickups without pole adjustment ...
by Laudanum on Sat Nov 11, 2006 4:13 pm
I've seen these pickups on several of the Deans. The white gold cadi, Hardtails with gold hardware, like the purple flames. I think they are also on the white gold V with the single pup. I'm talking about the Gold covered buckers with the smooth covers, no holes for the pole adjustment screws. Does anyone know if all of these pups are the same brand/model between the different guitars that they come on? I assume these are import pups but if anyone knows otherwise, please clue me in on what they are exactly.
I have a white gold cadillac that has these pups and they actually sound quite good, me thinks anyway. Just looking for any info anyone in the know may have on them.

Thanks.

Soltero evolves from EVO?
by Fugg Kinay on Sun Nov 12, 2006 8:28 pm
The Soltero is such a beauty, I ws looking at the Dean webpage pics and started to notice similarities with my EVO body shape. So I put a pic of the Soltero right next to one of my EVO. The major differences were: (1) body shape where bass bout meets the neck; and (2) multiple body contours on the Soltero. Beyond that, there is an amazing similarity to the EVO body shape. Sorry, I am not quite adept enough to post side-by-side pics, but I am sure someone here on the BB can help. Just an observation, but an understandable one, I still view my EVO Premiums as top eschelon guitars regardles of price.

up with my wah and my noisegate, plugged everything
into the RH100 and off I went.

It sounds good, but not great, but on the other hand
I only tried it to see if it worked .. I guess I've
got some dialing to do Cool

Played a show Friday and Saturday night. It was a decent weekend so I decided to use my earnings and finally get a practice amp. I went to GC with the intention on picking up a Marshall MG15 combo. I found one and was playing it and loving it, but out of the corner of my eye I spotted this little amp....

Image

My friend who works there encouraged me to try it out. I couldn't believe that a little 5 watt amp was as loud as this. It is 5 watts Class A with one 12ax7 and an EL34 power tube. It has a 10" Celestion speaker. Controls are simple. Volume, Tone and Gain. Before I made my decision I compared it to the Epiphone Valve Junior because the Epi is less money, but after playing them both I see why it is cheaper. Not as nice sounding for sure. It was twice the price of the Marshall MG I tried but sounded much better in my opinion so I got the Crate. It isn't a real high gain amp, but when I got it home I ran a dist pedal into it and it crunched up real nice. It is great for the house which is what I wanted it for anyway. It does have a line out, so I am gonna take it to rehersal this week and run it into the PA for fun. The guys are gonna laugh for sure. Here are two more pics.

Question for you pickup geniuses ...
by Laudanum on Mon Nov 13, 2006 2:03 pm
Here is a theoretical ... two different pup manufacturers both independently make a nickel covered pickup, with alnico 5 mags both wound to 12 K for example . Will the pups sound exactly or very close to the same? ... what variables could make them different? Clearly the magnet wire they both use would have to be nearly the same. So what is different? Maybe the bobbin material, but how different could that be? Baseplates? ...

how much different could two different humbuckers from two different manufactueres sound assuming they are both covered (or both uncovered) and wound to the same electrical resistance?

I know it's a strange question, but please indulge me if you have any ideas.

Thanx.
New strings and my Floyd Rose
by Cenobite on Mon Nov 13, 2006 2:34 pm
So I always buy DR's Dimebag 9-50 strings (I know the deal with string gauge and a floyd) and everything is always fine.
This time I change strings, my floyd is all messed up and needs adjusting. Isnt this not supposed to happen with the same gauge strings. It hadnt moved with the strings I replaced, so it was quite vexing.

I sorted it out no problems, just want to know if anyone else has had this happen. Bad batch of strings maybe?

By the time we went on to finish off in a brutal manner, the place was packed with a very happy, enthusiastic and generous crowd who straight off the bat gave as much of themselves as we poured out on stage. A great show, thanks to all who showed up and made it an epic evening - see you next time, ROCK ON!

So yeah. Here's what I picked up today. Needless to say, this thing is bad to the bone. Huge low end on it, the "deep" control acts like a bass boost. It shakes your organs, the house, and is a seriously awesome feature. Its got tons of gain and a really menacing tone. The Rust razorback really sounds quite scary, with some great midrange bite.

I need help from someone who has knowledge from both of these guitars.

Do they have the same neck profile and thickness? I've had a change to play the DOF only once and the neck felt extremely thick (probably because the action was so damn high). Didn't like it... Then I got my DBD less than a week ago and the neck feels great, thin and fast.

So the guestion is, is the DOF neck thicker or not... because if it is similiar to the DBD I might have to get the DOF...

2.) Soundsculpture Switchblade 8
3.) Axess GRX-4

I want to ask anyone who has any experience with any of these units to please post some pros and cons!! I'm in the midst of changing my rig into a Midi system and I would like some input on these units so I can choose one!! The Switchblade I hear is very good, yet very $$$. The Axess GRX-4's are easy to link together and take up little space and are also affordable.

I'm thinking about the dmc GCX but I've heard rumors that it's not very transparent. I do however like the Ground control Pro alot more than the Axess floor units...

Question for the Hamer buffs here
by Jag Panzer on Thu Nov 16, 2006 12:21 am
Question for the Hamer buffs here

Is my Vector V around? I'm just curious if it's made it's way into some Hamer buffs collection. It was a nice guitar, just not for me (I'm a total Dean guy).

Here's the story behind it. Granted, this could be all B.S. invented to buy the dealer when I bought it.

It was evidently the first (or at least one of the very first) Vector V guitars ever made.

It was called 'red' but it was more like an opaque orange. I've never really seen a guitar that color. I would call it 'rich candy orange'. It had creme binding on the body but not on the headstock. It had 2 pups and a stop tailpiece.

Is it around?
BEWARE!! **DEAN GUITAR SCAM**
by AdrianFly on Thu Nov 16, 2006 1:01 am
Since we are all Dean players and a family here, I wanted to share this information to ya.

Here's how the scam works: Two seriously good-looking 18 or 19-year-old girls come over to your car as you are packing your brand new Dean Guitar into the trunk. They both start wiping your windshield with a rag and Windex, with their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy T-shirts. It is impossible not to look.

When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say "No" and instead ask you for a ride to another Dean Guitar Dealer. You agree and they get in the back seat.

On the way, they start having grox with each other. Then one of them climbs over into the front seat and performs oral grox on you, while the other one steals your wallet.

I had my wallet stolen August 4th , 9th, 10th, twice on the 15th, 17th, 20th, three times just yesterday, and very likely again this upcoming weekend as soon as I can buy some more wallets.

Noise Gate
by Metalmania20 on Thu Nov 16, 2006 6:29 am
Just recently has my noise gate crapped out on me. It was a boss NS-2. It was okay because of the mute feature but I'm looking to get a new noise gate but in rack form. I was wondering what would be a good rack noise gate that would clean out my wallet. I was looking at a ISP but I don't have 400 something bucks to be spending on a noise gate. Anyone have any suggestions?
Why Is It....
by DizzyDean on Thu Nov 16, 2006 4:01 pm
acoustic guitars intonate perfectly, and electrics are a battle? I was playing my Taylors today and I got to thinking about how perfectly intonated they are. Of course, they have a fixed bridge and saddle. So why is it so hard to intonate an electric guitar?

Strum an A on an acoustic and it will usually sound great. Strum it on an electric and that G string will drive you nuts.

I have definitely found different brands of strings easier to intonate than others, so is that the answer? Is it the acoustic strings?

It's always puzzled me.
dean should really do something like this

http://www.gibson.com/contests/usacontest.html

right now ESP is giving away 300 stephen carpenter LTD models (one per day)

jackson is always doing something

b.c. rich is always doing something.

would it kill dean to give away a TC every now and then? or hell, give away a handful of those cheap baby dime from hell packages or something.

i think contests would be a great and inexpensive(compared to buying bigname artists) way to promote the company.
Need new tunes! Gettin an iPod, 30GB to use.
by dan_plus_o on Thu Nov 16, 2006 6:36 pm
Hey I am getting a 30GB iPod, and I am wanting to get some new tunes to put on it.

My favorite band is Pantera. I don't like the bands that just completely scream thru out the whole song, although I do listen to Chidlren of Bodom and enjoy their music.

Got any suggestions?

Could you name a band then name a few of their best songs so I can listen to them and see if I like em.

I am also goning to put every episode of Trailer Park Boys on it Very Happy
Cadillac Advice & Help
by Trusty Bucket on Thu Nov 16, 2006 8:55 pm
Hey dudes, I am deanless and trying to get my hands on a caddy. Now just flat out, Long story short, I have the chance to get my hands on a Time Capsule caddy (brand new) in the colours of Transparent Black, and Metalic Black. Here are 3 things I would like help on:

1. If someone could show me a metalic and transparent black guitar (so i can compare colours)

2. I would appreciate it if those caddy lovers out there to lemme know how the caddys play are they playable, do they play fast, all that shizznit.. So then I can decide if I really want one because I know they cost couple nickles Laughing .

3. Is it okay on this guitar to change the pickups? If I dont like the stock ones I will probably get some seymours on there.

Ps - These time caps are dual not triple humbuckers. And i have never played a caddy.. SO I really really need to knwo what kind of sound and playability I would be getting. So please make detailed answers. Laughing

Amp Suggestions
by Canadian_F_H on Fri Nov 17, 2006 6:44 am
i'm definatly going with my ears on this of course but i'm curious what yall might suggest.

as of now i play in a "Southern Rock" band. were gonna do 2 covers most likely...

"Saturday night Special" - Lynyrd Skynyrd
"Stone the Crow" - Down

the Lead Guitarist/Singer (and i agree) wants to spread our range to go everywhere from Cuntry, to Metal (Corrosion of Conformity and Down style Metal, not Pantera (damn) or Metallica style if that explains at all) s'all good so long as the music sounds/feels good.

anyways. i am wondering what kind of amps would really get me a good sound anywhere in this range. i don't care if its only good for some of what ive talked about i am open to suggestions.

if the amp can also be pushed into full blown Heavy Metal that would be a good plus IMO, cus i dont care what im playing every now and then i'm gonna push that Gain way up adn let it out!

what do yall think?
Dean haters
by brn14me on Fri Nov 17, 2006 10:04 am
I stumbled on to the Guitar World website and noticed they had a forum. Someone had asked a question about the DFH/CFH and there was a reaction as if someone said 'washburn' on this forum. This and the Dodge forum are the only forums I've been on so I decided to check out ultimate-guitar's forum as well and there is the same general consensus there..........everyone seems to hate Deans. They say they're cheaply made with cheap parts, look like toys, dimebucker sucks (not made by dean, I know) but every post was littered with extremeley uneducated information that I didn't even want to begin to combat.

I was turned onto playing guitar by taking my daughter to DOA last year and was blown away by the hospitality that I started playing and now own 2 Deans. I love them but by no means claim to be educated on their quality versus other makers. I have noticed that alot of people that actually pick up a Dean get hooked and end up buying several. Please feel free to comment on anything I've said but my main questions to all of the more seasoned guitarists are......

were you ever a dean hater?
what drew you to deans and when?
do you play deans exclusevly?

I appreciate all comments.
What might this be Worth
by Lon on Fri Nov 17, 2006 1:43 pm
It's a USA Baby V with the shrimpfork stock and a crazy paint job. Looks a little beat but not too bad. The tuners were removed in an attempt to read the serial number, which the seller isn't quite able to do. So....whatcha think? Looks like a lotta mojo to me.

The mighty Orange Tiny Terror (15 watts of love)
by tenaflyviper on Fri Nov 17, 2006 2:10 pm
Is there any better amp? Class A. Built like a Tank. THREE fricking knobs. Volume Gain and one tone.

They sound like great british amps and around here 15 watts is all anyone needs. I play clubs all of the time with my 50 watt Mesa and sound guys are screaming at me to turn down and the 2X12 50W Mesa is on 1.5 tops. I can't morally go lower than that. Please someone just totally cut my balls off. What is even funnier is that our guitar player Johnny has a 100W Marshall JCM800. The thing sound great at any volume, but man is that overkill for all the clubs we play.

Here is a picture of the beautiful little thing! GAAAAWWWWD I want one bad!!! It is so fricking cute!!

Buzzing problem! Need pro help!
by cowboy_from_hell_90 on Sat Nov 18, 2006 1:45 am
Hey guys, just restrung my 79 Dean MLF. It was buzzing a little before and now it's more persistant. The action DOES seem pretty low, which I like, but my B string is almost unplayable lol. Any help would be appreciated. It doesn't look like I can adjust the height of the strings from the floyd so is this a truss rod issue? if so plz explain the process cause I wanna do everything myself instead of shelling out dough for techs
i was thinking of hacking up my guitar a bit
by Canadian_F_H on Sat Nov 18, 2006 3:17 am
not likely to be done but everynow and then a few things run thru my mind...

1) could a sand my neck into a V-neck profile?

2) would i be able to sand down the area at the neck join that my hand always runs into and prevents efficient use of the 21st and 22nd fret?

3) could i fix up the heel much?

the ideas run thru but im not likely to do any of it... well #2 may happen cus it is annoying... and #1 may happen if after i get my slime the C-neck of my current Guitar starts to bother me to much(which it already has ever since i tried the CFHDFH)

if anything i probably wont do it out of fear of messing it up... or at least not untill i have plenty of other guitars incase i mess up, or for while im in the process of messing the epiphone up...

pictures...

Image
between the neck and the upper spike i just want to shave off a bit maybe a half inch in toward teh pickguard at top, not all the way to the back of the guitar.

Image
see what i mean about the heel? i wonder if that would be worth smooting out a tad, mostly toward the top adn bottom not near teh middle... also notice the new Strap placement! MUCH Improved balance!!!!

I've never seen a neck do this before ...
by Laudanum on Sat Nov 18, 2006 6:02 pm
Bought a Hardtail, used, a couple months back. Haven't had much time lately to play it as I've been working on another geet and also been busy with other things. When I got it, I didn't have to mess with the set-up much at all. Action was just a tad low and a very small tweek at the bridge took care of any fret buzz. I replaced the pups with SD's and cleaned it up within the first 3 or 4 days of getting it. Played it a little bit and it's been sitting for probably 6 - 8 weeks since as I've been busy with too many other things. So, 2 days ago I finally get it out to play and it's buzzing pretty good. Check the relief and it has changed like I have never seen before in my life. They always seem to do some changing when I get them from a different climate than down here in florida but I dont remember ever seeing a necks relief change this much, ever. I'm in Florida and I think the seller was up north in Wisconsin or Michigan. Anyway, the neck DEFINITELY needs a truss rod adjustment, more relief, as it has shifted to almost no relief since it has been sitting and I'm working on that patience requiring task right now.. Has anyone ever seen as signifigant a change as I am describing, that is, if you can get a sense of the situation from my poorly written description skills.

I guess what I'm asking is if any of you has had a guitar shipped from a different climate and seen a change in the neck relief that has been signifigant enough to actually surprise you?

by minimimaniac on Sat Nov 18, 2006 6:34 pm
I went to get my KORG AX1500G fixed (it kept cutting out when i was playing)

I digressed, and ended up trying a laney LV200 with a dean BG-V.

ok, the guitar was pretty nice! i liked the action, very low and no buzzing. felt the pickups were a bit weak, but what do you expect fo the price? It was strange playin a V after being so used to an ML, but it was kool none the less. The neck was nice n thin up the neck and got rounder and thicker as you went down. The inlays were great, i love the "BLACK GOLD" at the 12th fret

Oh yeah, it was GORGEOUS

The Laney! This is a great little amp! Well, not little but you know what i mean. 65 Watts and it was still decent at lowish volumes. It responded much better to dynnamis than i thought it would and cleaned up nicely when i turned the volume down. Clean was nice and fat, and the reverb was strangely good for a combo as im sure we are all pretty used to shitty reverb thrown in as a side thought but the amp designers. The bright swtich is a God send, i left it on. It just made the amp so much brighter and the highs were so much more pronounced.

Drive 1 was nice and crunchy, but i was more interested in drive 2. I was impressed, it had plenty of gain, but it was noisy and i didnt like that. It can do metal, but id kick in a OD pedal for solos. Did have a fairly nifty tone shaping switch on the distortion channels, made for a good solid metal tone. There was also an overall tone shaping switch, they call it VTS, whatever that is. There is a difference in the tone when engaged, but i found it to be quite subtle.

Having said that this is a hybrid amp, will it react in the same way to an overdrive in the same way that a normal tube amp does?

Best thing about the amp was the price, it was £190, which is about $350. For that kind of money, you are getting plenty of tone, and a footswitch!

USA Deans are Series 3 headstocks only?

Pro, TC, Exotic... all of em are #3

no Series 2?

except the lost 100s with their Series 1 BFH?

so there is NO way to get a USA with a Series 2 headstock.

(except the USA DFH Limited run they did was series 2 weren't they?)

I was wondering if i were to put my guitar in C,G,C,F,A,D.. And I use 10g strings. Do I need 11's or are 10's fine for this tuning? And I'm pretty sure i'll have to change the intonation on my neck. So I found a pretty decent looking cab...
by Panties on Mon Nov 20, 2006 7:04 pm
I've been looking for a cheap cab for my rhythm guitarist lately. I recently purchased a Peavey 5150 and I only have one cabinet to use. My rhythm guitarist is stuck using a combo amp, so I figured I wouild let her use my old head and find a cab for her to use it with.

Would this cab be any good for a Peavey 5150? Or should I stick with my 4x12 and find her something else, or even buy this one for her to use.

http://montreal.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-musical-instruments-CABINET-PEAVEY-W0QQAdIdZ7617630

If none of the above, can you help me find a cab? This one sparks my interest because it's local.

Where does one go for a USA custom?
by Anonymous on Mon Nov 20, 2006 10:01 pm
I have been thinking about the USA/Custom shop guitar market lately. It seems like (for Dean) the custom options have been cut almost to nil, and their USA pricing has gone up dramatically. I know that Jackson, and a few other pointy manufacturers are raising prices as of Jan 1, (quite significantly) making the USA guitar market (IMHO) pretty nauseating and more difficult to afford.

I wish I understood it, but I don't. Its no wonder products are outsourced to save money and imports are becoming the "standard" here in the U.S. It's like buying Orange juice in Florida or Milk in Vermont... BUT WHY?!?!?!?!?!?!? With 1 call to Warmoth I can put together my own "Made in USA" for a FRACTION of a USA production model. Moser is already making imports that rival USA's, and I am not talking about cheaply made ones either... they have laminate neck-thru construction, as does BCR. How long before imports really are every bit as good as USA's for a cheaper price???

It's a shame, Made in USA USED to mean quality... Now we have sold our own Country out from underneath us in the name of profit. We may be the best Country in the World, but we aren't doing anything to keep it that way. Soon there will be a gold, rectangular sticker on the map United States saying...

"Made in China."

How much difference does a solid wood cab make???

I ask because I just got this idea while I was on the john. Laughing

I'm pretty satisfyed with my cab. Its a birch ply Randall cab with Celston custom 80 speakers. Its got pretty nice tone, but I got this idea to take out the guts and build a new housing for them out of solid birch, or maybe some other type of wood that would be good to use. Would the affect be worth the trouble??? Just wondering. Thanks.

THE OFFICIAL TUBE AMP THREAD
by Killer Wooolf777 on Wed Nov 22, 2006 3:01 pm
Alright guys, I'm a Tube-Noob and I wanna know EVERY thing there is to know. Just yesterday I dropped another $400 bucks on my Randall RM100 and under $400 remains to be paid. I'll prolly be getting it for Christmas!

Well this is my first tube amp and I'm looking for any/all tips to keep this thing sounding at its best. I also wanna know what kind of tubes are good for different tones, how tube amps work, ect. I just want to have a good basic knowledge on the $1300 piece or gear I'm gonna own.

So please, all you tube guys shed some light on anything and everything tube amp related.

-Iain
Help me with my guitar setup!
by Panties on Wed Nov 22, 2006 4:10 pm
Hey guys, my amp is going to be here in a few days and I'm going to start getting some equipment to improve my tone. I've talked to a few people and these are some of the ideas I have got.

Jimmy says to get a Maxon OD 808, to tighten the tone on the 5150 and make it more crushing. I have not yet played the 5150, but if it's anything like the 6505 I played; the overdrive would really boost it that much. The tone is sick, but it could be tightened. Go or no go?

I have placed an order on a Boss NS-2. I'm paying more than I would from any of the dealers here and pretty damn close to what an ISP Decimator pedal would cost me, but the guys at the store always help me out when I'm there to purchase something so I got them to order me one. Should be here soon. Where does the noise gate go, in the loop?

My wah, an original crybaby, is finished. I got it for free from a friend from school because the activate switch was worn down or something... nothing a little wood glue at the top couldn't fix, but the range is really horrible, in my opinion. I was thinking of either getting the CFH wah or the Zakk Wylde, but I'm pretty sure I just want the one with the most range. I'd rather something that didn't color my tone. Which one should I check out, if not both?

I want to pick up a Digitech whammy, eventually. I know they're really not that practical, but I think some of the stuff they can do is pretty neat. (Can't wait to try those 2-octave jumps!) The only problem with those suckers is that they're extremely expensive... maybe I'll snag one if I can find one at the right price.

Jimmy was also pushing me in the direction of Celestion Vintage 30's. I know these are pretty much the most popular speakers for metal/rock/whatev, but the price tag kicks my ass. Is it really worth it to get the speakers up front, or should I save them for last? The cab currently has 4x Celestion GH12M, or something like that.

I was also thinking of getting an EQ box... maybe an MXR or something. Will the 5150 need it after the Maxon overdrive or will I be ok with just the EQ of the amp?

I recently made the purchase of speaker cable, so I will make sure not to use a guitar cable to connect my tube head with my cab. I heard this was bad and could destroy my equipment, so I made sure I had a speaker cable on hand when my grail comes in. Was it below 70 IQ type to use a guitar cable to connect my solid state head to my cab for almost a year?

I think that's about it for my newbie questions... I'll post more as they come up.

Thanks in advance.
Anyone else have a Dimebucker That is Too Harsh
by NAILSPINE on Wed Nov 22, 2006 4:18 pm
I have a Dimebucker in my Two-Tone Razorback and I like the tone for the most part, but it seems too harsh. I don't know how to describe it other that than, almost sounds like a solid state amp that is cranked and is breaking up, but at low volumes. My amp is a tube, so I know that is not the case....any others have this problem? Any suggestions?
Dean Palomino. Korea or China?
by Peter Krasov on Wed Nov 22, 2006 7:18 pm
Got a Dean Palomino month ago. The guitar is very pretty, everything is fine (but for P90s Smile). But the guitar doesn't have any serial numbers, or marks about the manufacturer. So does anyone know, where Palominos are made: China or Korea. I was told, that they are Korean ones.
Thanks.
ML Noir XT
by Dennis on Wed Nov 22, 2006 7:19 pm
First off let me say I am new here. Yea I know I need to be in the newbies forum.

I was looking into getting a dean ML Noir Xt and was wondering about a couple things.

Does the neck feel chunky like a les paul or does it feel like a strat?
Is the floyd rose worth the trouble I hear that they are?
Also is the basswood any good or do I need to save up a little more for a better wood?

Thanks in advance

What really amazes me ...
by Laudanum on Wed Nov 22, 2006 7:55 pm
I was just doing my weekly ebay browsing. It really amazes me how many sellers don't know the difference between a quilted top and a flame top. All you have to do is browse a single page worth on electric guitar listings and there is bound to be atleast one or two quilt top guitars listed as flame tops or flame tops listed as quilt tops. It's usually quilts listed as flames, though. That's a hell of alot of confused sellers when you add it all up.

How is this relevant? ... it's not I guess. Just really amazes me because the flame or quilt thing is just not all that difficult a concept.

Rant over.

Got your attention huh? Dirty minded individuals you are... Laughing

Anyway, the Blonde bombshell has just made it to california. All I can say is wow. This thing is sick. KILLER tone thanks to Randy and his sorcerer's ways with EMGs and propper wiring. The fit and finnish on it is amazing. Truly first class. Seems to me like there is larger fretwire on it than on my other USA's which is awesome if you ask me. The whole guitar is awesome and I think its my new main squeeze. I love floyds alot, but havin a USA Dean with the setup ease and versatility of a hardtail is extremely pleasing. eBay's recent change
by Armitage on Thu Nov 23, 2006 11:32 am

While I live in Canada, I have a USA shipping address and a recent change on eBay has stopped me from bidding on may items. eBay has made it so that no one can bid unless the seller has included the country in "Ships to." While I usually send the seller a note asking if it's OK to bid, I've never had anyone turn down the opportunity of another bidder raising the bid.

It seems many people just put down USA because it just doesn't occur to them to include Canadian bidders. The last guitar I got off eBay went from one other bidder at $400 to a sale of $1200 simply because I bid against him.

Grrr...

So think about it when putting things up on eBay.
30,000,000 other people may want to bid on your item.
Bill Lawrence Info Help
by scothiam on Thu Nov 23, 2006 2:06 pm
Hi everyone, since there seem to be many knowledgeble people here thought I could ask a few questions:

1. Can anyone tell me what year the L-500 and later L-500XL came out?

ah, we'll start with that. I hope to post the info on my site to help others identify "bill lawrence" pickups and/or decide which one to purchase. Any help is appreciated. Cheers.

Oh, and please, don't give me the history of the world, lol, lets keep it simple Smile

maybe this should be in a new thread? Sorry if there is already a thread for this, maybe someone can point me in the right direction?

(I posted this at the end of an OLD thread, so I'm not sure anyone will answer there, sorry for the re-post)
Zebra Strings?
by Rex Herring on Thu Nov 23, 2006 4:06 pm
I didn't know that these were made, sounds interesting, anyone here try these? They would look cool on the "V-Wing" Very Happy

http://cgi.ebay.com/DR-ZEBRA-Electric-Acoustic-Guitar-Strings-ZAE-11_W0QQitemZ160054894394QQihZ006QQcategoryZ20987QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item160054894394

The "Zebra" Takes You to a World of New Tones
ZEBRA strings came about from DR's efforts to create strings that would improve acoustic sounds as well as electric sounds of all acoustic/electric guitars. Many players agree that DR has successfully achieved this by winding phospher-bronze plated steel wire side-by-side with 8% nickel plated steel wire. Phospher-bronze brings out the acoustic tones of your guitar. Eight percent nickel plated steel is designed to increase the response of a piezo pickup in the bridge, or a magnetic pickup mounted in the soundhole, as well as the pickups in the archtop guitars.
The gauges are: 11, 15, 22, 30, 40, 50 medium/lite.

First off, I want to wish a Happy Thanksgiving to all of you and your families. Enjoy!

Has anyone ever tried the Golden Age humbuckers that Stew-Mac sells. They have a standard version around 9K and a "hot" version spec'd at 12K? I think they are all alnico V's and another take on the PAF's . I'm sure they are probably asian imports but I was just wondering if anyone has ever given them a try and what they thought?

Thanks

I've heard talk of this tour a few times on Sirius 27 Hard Attack. The tour is supposed to be early next year starting out I believe in February or March, but haven't heard any solid details. Talk about some sick ass guitar work in one show. I've only seen LOG at Ozzfest so I'm hoping for a House of Blues type venue, nothing too big.

If I hear anything else I'll let ya know or if anyone knows any more about this hook it up.

Gigbags for Razorbacks.

Ey , so i've ordered a Razorback Explosion (my dealer called me today telling me i have to wait untill end of januari Sad instead of the 2-3 days he said grr)

anyways , well i don't own a car , my bandmates go to the pracise place with a bike (so do I) .. so the case doesn't really help me for getting it around.

So are there any gigbags for the razorback? need extra padding to protect those spikes? ..or any gigbags you guys could recommend. thanks =)

WHICH DEAN MODEL IS THIS USA?
by Stormy on Fri Nov 24, 2006 9:19 pm
Hi there. If anyone could help, it would be very apreciated.

Image Image

Does anyone in here know which era guitar is this? It says USA in the headstock, but in the front, not back. The serial number is written down next to the 22nd fret like the Jacksons do, and it is 10027.
It has an original Floyd Rose, a Bill Lawrence pickup in the bridge and a Seymour in the neck. Look that the jack input isn´t on the top.
I was thinking of that 90ies era when the Dean owners changed.
Thank you in advance Wink

Right now i'm in the process of saving up for a new amp...which will more than likely be either a B-52 combo or a Peavey Valveking 212. It will take a long time for me to save this money, because I don't have job. Razz

Sooooooooo...i'm going to ask the most boring question that is asked time and time again...what is a decent distortion pedal? I'm looking for something very versatile and I hate the Metal Zone, so don't go there. Actually, don't even suggest Boss or Digitech...because i'm not very fond of their distortion boxes. Well actually, I do like the DS-1. But anyways, I was sort of looking at the Silver Dragon tube distortion, but I need to know how good it is. And, I want other suggestions. Hell, I might even get a DS-1 and then maybe a Maxon OD808 or an Ibanez Tube Screamer reissue, who knows what i'll end up with. Razz

Suggest.

NEED ADVICE
by FinnHowl on Sun Nov 26, 2006 8:53 am
Hi guys,

Thinking about getting a V 79, cause I can't afford the Time Capsule. Is there really a huge difference? If so, what is it? The 79 I'm looking at is Korean made.

Also, does anyone know if the 79 is mahogany for both body and neck? That's a must for me.

Thanks a ton!!

Need help finding a Megadeth backing track
by muckers on Sun Nov 26, 2006 7:37 pm
Now, before I start yes I have checked www.guitarbt.com and no it's not that.

I'm after a backing track for A Tout Le Monde - awesome Megadeth track, which I've nailed today.

Only thing is, is that the song is played roughly half a step down - not exactly half a step down.

So not only is it a pain in the ass to get the tuning right, it's a pain in the ass to tune my Razor down for the right tuning and set it up right (I get the better sound out of this than my other geet). Also a pain in the ass is changing the pitch by a semitone, cos it's not quite standard E, it's a bit off.

So if anyone knows of a backing track they could link me to, I'd love them long time.

Or...just, like, thank them or something else that's not @#$%&$@. Shocked Laughing

Not digging the wahs at all in this thing, but I got my Buddha-wah for that. So far I've got some great EVH-type stuff, poundcake, runaround, standing on top of the world and some early ones like somebody get me a doctor. Oh, and a pink floyd young lust that I nailed down. The effects and routing options are where the magic lives with this. Wink I have two Marshall cabs but they don't seem to be the optimum set up with this head. What speakers do they put in the line 6 cabs?

The Death of Metalcore
As funny as the video is,this scene IS dying.Even Howard Jones from Killswitch Engage admited that the metalcore genre is dying out.I admit,I really got hooked on the catchyness of hardcore and metalcore for a while, but it lost my interest.I am thankful that true metal and talent is prevailing stronger than it did 10 years ago when I first got into heavy rock.

Anyways, just thought you all would like the video.

Clapton Blackie and my POV
by Dusty Rhodes on Mon Nov 27, 2006 6:02 am
Help me out here... What am I missing?
So I'm in my local G.C. where I had a chance to play the new/old reissue of the Clapton Blackie. I have a couple of friends of mine who work there and was thus able to sit down with it in their back office. This one will be sold for $22K. Now, if this was the actual Blackie that Clapton owned then I can see how it would fetch nearly $100K at auction. Although the reissue is an exact duplicate it is still only a carefully engineered clone of the original. I found it didn't play any better than my '73 Strat (which I have kept looking new) and it looked like something I dragged behind my car and left out to rust. I own two Gibson Custom Shop Historic reissues which were made to look like they just came off the line in 1957. I just don't see the value other than the limited production run of these beat-up look-a-likes. Am I missing something here?

by hellboundinFTworthTX on Tue Nov 28, 2006 3:16 am
Hey, thought you guys might want to check this one out. I bought
this 79MLF new a couple of weeks ago for $499 cause some
guy on ebay had them priced wrong. Couldn't pass up the deal. I
was going through my big box of guitar and trem parts earlier and
I found a black floyd and a black Dean pickup I had bought a long
time ago just because they were dirt cheap.
Anyway, two hours and a new set of 10's later I made this. The trem
fit perfectly after changing the block, and after swaping the springs
and setting her up, she plays as good or better than my DFH.

Info on an old Dean I have
by Rushmore on Tue Nov 28, 2006 7:36 pm
Hi,
I have done a little research on this guitar and think it is a 1984 or 1985 Dean Baby ML. It is a blue burst in color, set neck, and in decent shape. I've heard that it is inconclusive whether it is USA made or not. Anyway, I'm sure you guys are familiar with these things and I was wondering how much it is worth, or how much they generally go for. I'm considering selling this guitar and didn't have any idea what I could get out of it. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

some guy named Jonn Boze from richmond virgina made it about 10 years ago.. it is one solid hunk of nice mahogony with flat top like a special but is bound like a custom. it has old school (from the 70's) double cremes.. great electronics shielded cavitys and, no s#%t.. it weighs almost 14 lbs

it was his first lp style guitar that he ever did... and it shows.. i hope to god he kept his day job

the guitar has some serious cosmetic issues..

-the bridge is off by a few millimeters so the groves for the bridge have been "compensated" LOL

-the MOP inlays look like he used a meat cleaver to install them..(pics)

-the inlays were are all differnt size and shapes like a three year old cut them out.. see pics..

needless to say this frankenstein looking mother foooker is a tone beast.. it intonates perfectly. has a really nice neck profile, crowned and polished frets and the action is low with no buzzes.. i was sick the next day when i saw i bought it but i am happily surprized i lucked out it wasn't unplayable.. i paid around 300 for it shipped (over all worth it)... it fits my personallity

Not much to look at but i have a big nub so so %$#@! off!!.. lol... Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

i might sent it to M ike to see if he can do anything with it..

i also grabbed this the same night..(i was hammered drankin grey goose)... I think its a Tokai from the 80's

Dave Mustaine signing with Dean?
by Australian_F_H on Wed Nov 29, 2006 8:56 am
He's leaving ESP? Is he clearing his stuff out of his ESP locker room?

A friend of a friend knows the tour manager for MEGADETH, he secretly told him that Dave was going to Dean Guitars..

No Clue if it's true...

Anyway, it makes since to me. Dean is top player in the Metal industry, and Dave is a pointy type of guy for sure!! He's already done the Jackson/ESP thing. Maybe a new revamped V or ML is in the works.....

I just can't see him going to Schecter or Gibson, they don't have pointy guitars.

My latest Strat project DONE!!
by Lon on Wed Nov 29, 2006 2:31 pm
I'm building my version of the Fender 60th Anniversary Mexican Strat. They came with white guards and Tex Mex pickups, neither of which I care for. Mine has a chrome metal (heavy!) guard and standard Mexican Strat electronics. The body and neck are genuine Fender 60th Ann pieces from ebay (different sellers). I ended up parting out my Splattercaster and the body and neck paid for the pieces for this guitar, plus I kept the Fender tuners, bridge, neckplate and electronics. Basically I got this version of the 60th Ann for $200, which is what I paid for the Splattercaster. Twisted Evil

the only two pedals I can get easily here are the Rocktron Hush and the Boss NS2 (both for 80€) and NOT the decimator

so I just wanted to know which one dyou think does the job best between those two

PS: I know this has been discussed before but the winner always seemed to be the decimator and since I can't get my hands on one I thought I could ask once again

Poaching musicians
by Lanning is Killdozer on Thu Nov 30, 2006 2:16 am
I hate to ask this here, but I am getting an ulcer here lately. As some of you know, our drummer of 4 years has hung up his sticks. He said he has no intentions on becoming a "Rock Star", whatever the hell that is. We are not friggin' rock stars. Anyway, we have been looking for 6 weeks now, and everyone who has auditioned can't hang except for one guy who only wants to be part of our family when we sign our deal. Now don't get me wrong. We are past the "is this really going to happen?" stage so we aren't thinking about that, but we don't want some a$$hole out there with us. We may not have a choice though. The other option? There are a few really good drummers in the area with other groups. Would we be total A$$holes offering them a job? We would be screwing some other band over doing that. There are 2 bands in the area with amazing drummers and they are only doing the weekend gig thing, like we have for so many years. So the question is, under the circumstances is it wrong for us to poach a drummer from another group? I mean they are walking into a career by doing this.

The digital topped guitar
by Jag Panzer on Thu Nov 30, 2006 4:24 pm
We had this conversation here almost 2 years ago (I think). But the technology is moving along nicely so I think we'll see one of these at some time in the future.

Last night a read a whitepaper on flexible polymar display. Paper thin, rugged image display units that bend and curve. They do exist now, but the resolution is low and the contrast sucks. Give it time though.

Imagine what this technology could do for a guitar top. You want a curly maple top? Just load the image. Confederate top? No problem, load it up. Sunburst is too dark? Just adjust the color on it.

But would people imbrace this?? I would, but under 2 conditions. #1 It most NOT compromise the tone of the guitar in any way. #2 the resolution and image quality must be incredible (far beyond what's available today).

If those conditions are satisified, I'd love to have one.

Would this open up some new markets? I imagine so. There'd be designers specializing in guitar tops. Maybe you could buy the exotic wood collection of 20 tops for $50.

Along the same lines, I read about the digital Les Paul last night (it's been around for awhile). Do Gibson designers drink, then design products??? I was shocked, yes literally shocked that thier fancy ethernet Les Paul is NOT midi. Every PC in the world has a built in wavetable synth, MIDI guitar technology is readily available. Yet Gibson doesn't put MIDI on thier 'high tech' guitar. Incredible..
Sound evolution: Randall powered Marshall ?!
by I M Evil on Thu Nov 30, 2006 4:50 pm
I've recently begun to jam again with an old
pal from work, and we've been talking about
getting more serious into it and start playing clubs
and so on.

The thing is ... we're playing rock,
and while I love my RH100, I feel that
it's more of a metal-amp. I don't wanna
get rid of it though, so I was thinking
about buying a JMP-1 preamp and use
the RH100 as a poweramp.

What do ya think about that ? Very Happy

Thanks.

New Amp.....Splawn action w/ pics....
by emunder on Fri Dec 01, 2006 2:01 am
Just got my Splawn Pro Stock in today. For those of you that don't know about these amps they are built by Scott Splawn by hand and they are basically a hotrodded Marshall capable of achieving tones from a Plexi all the way up to a hotrodded JCM-800. Mine is the one channel version and has 3 levels (gears) of gain. It is a master volume head and is rated at 100 watts. It also has a switch to run at half power. After I unboxed it I could tell right away that Scott builds top-notch amps with high end components. Transformers are Heyboer, he uses JJ caps, JJ preamp tubes, and mine came loaded with a quad of Sovtek KT88's. You can choose from various colors of tolex and enclosures but I opted for basic black with white piping and a clear lexan window. After I loaded the power tubes it fired right up and it stays true to it's claims on the tone. Gear 1 reminds you of a Plexi tone, gear 2 hits JCM-800 territory, & gear 3 is like a hotrodded JCM-800. It also has a solo boost that is triggered on the footswitch which is also of high quality. The amp is very responsive and clean even with the gain all the way up in gear 3 and has that typical Marshall mid-range grunt to it. By the time I got to plug in it was getting late so I didn't have a chance to crank it loud but I can tell that it wants to be run at higher volume. Since I could only play at low volumes I slammed the front end of it with an overdrive pedal from B.Y.O.C. which is a 808 knockoff and it sounded great. More to come once I get a chance to push it a little bit and get the volume cranked up but in the meantime here are some pics:
