Washy dimebolt

Was it ever made in bolt on? because i saw it on the bay http://cgi.ebay.com/Washburn-model-Dime-332-Dimebag-Darrel_W0QQitemZ150177143545QQihZ005QQcategoryZ41435QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem and it didnt look real. I saw a knock off version of this on some chinese website, so is this an actual washy, or is someon getting ripped off? I also notice this one is paler.

new guitar pron....in about a month
by Vince on Thu Nov 01, 2007 8:15 am
i start at the sawmill on monday..its wednesday now..

$23hr.

i dont know what im getting..could be a new long awaited bass amp, could be another long awaited bass as well, or even a new guitar.

i always thought an electric drum set and some headphones would be rad to fuck around on too...
i used to play when i was like 12 or something so maybe this is an option as well...hmmmmmmm

i dont know what im buying yet....but you'll have pron in about 1 to 2 months time.. Laughing

i might be straying away from Dean..but i dont know yet, im keeping my options wide open...

anyone got any cool 4-6 string bass ideas?
preferably Rickenbacker, Peavey, Dean, Gibson....

im realllllly set on a Rickenbacker 4003, but if i see a five or six string that i like more...then my mind could be changed...

or guitar ideas?
ie. Dean, ESP, Gibson, Jackson, Ibanez, BC Rich...

at $23hr. and paying little for rent...the price of the guitar/bass/amp isnt really an issue...
Krank Rev1+ & Krankenstein+
by Meisterjäger on Thu Nov 01, 2007 10:40 am
Couple of upgrades from the Krank guys.

There's no real decent spec lists yet, but the site says they have 'bigger transformers', 6550 power tubes, and are now both rated at 120w, up from 100w.

On top of that, the Rev1 also has an active effects loop and a clean channel boost.

Cosmetically, they look the same... I presume these models will outright replace the existing ones.

Discuss... Wink

Need Major Amp Advice!!!
by Anonymous on Thu Nov 01, 2007 7:49 pm
Well, I don't know a whole lot about amps, but a I do know a little bit(differences between tube and solid state, more or less what brands are better than others, etc) but I'm having difficulties picking out a good amp.

Currently, I have a Line6 Spider III 30 watt amp. It can get some pretty cool tones but its just impractical, being digital. Now a friend recommended trying out a randall rg100g3, and I did so yesterday. I dont know if it was the guitar i was playing thru it or what but it didnt sound as extreme as the distortion on my crappy little spider III.

I've tried marshalls, randalls, fenders, and a bunch of other things, but I've yet to find something I really like. This weekend, I'm gonna bring my guitar to all the music places in the area, trying out amps.

Can anybody recommend something for me? I usually play metal, stuff like metallica and pantera, sometimes slayer. The one thing i hated the most about the randall was how weak palm muted strums sounded. liek theres no balls, not chuggy at all, if that helps Confused
Thanks for the people who've taken time to read this as it's kinda long. Very Happy
When did the King V come out?
by Warlock_340 on Thu Nov 01, 2007 9:31 pm
I'm doing a little project for Graphic Arts class, and I am wondering if anyone knows the year that the King V was officially released. The closest thing I could find was that it was originally designed for Robin Crosby in the 80's, but no specific year.

Any help would be appreciated.

Installed at Tremol-No today
by Lanning is Killdozer on Fri Nov 02, 2007 12:56 am
I just got the Tremol-no for my RG3120FANT today. I am not a big trem fan, but for some reason the guitars I always want have trems. Go figure. Anyway, it only took me about 25 minutes to put it on and have everything back in tune. Now I can run hardtail, full float or dive only with the twist of a few knobs. It is totaly worth it for those of you who are sick of your Floyds. Best part is it is easily reversable if you get rid of the guitar and want to keep the unit. Here is a link to the web site

Pat Metheny covering Norah Jones' hit "don't know why" and he does so using a baritone guitar that is tuned with a little twist. The whole guitar is tuned in a low A but his G string is tuned up a full octave and his B string is tuned down a full octave. and what kind of result does that yield?

I love my HardTail but...
by Dusty Rhodes on Fri Nov 02, 2007 4:28 am
I've had my USA HardTail for two years now and it seems like the neck just won't stabilize and every 4 or so months I have to get it adjusted. It usually needs relief added. I had the frets leveled and polished and it was perfect for about 5 months then buzzzzz go the strings again. Pisses me off. I'ts in a humidity controlled room with the rest of the gang but this one just likes to change with the seasons where the others stay fairly stable year round. I know set necks are more prone to this than bolt on's but come on. I would just like to know if any others out there have experienced the same frustruation. My tech says that there is nothing wrong with it and that some are just more sensitive that others. Thanks -

Drummer of Decapitated - Dead at 23
by slimebagSkylar on Fri Nov 02, 2007 6:15 pm
I can't believe this. This is one of the first bands that got me into death metal. I was lucky enough to meet vitek and talk to him for a bit when I saw them in portland. Such a huge loss of an amazingly talented drummer.....

RIP metal brother

-------------------------------------------------
Drummer Witold "Vitek" Kieltyka of the Polish extreme metal band DECAPITATED passed away in a Russian hospital from injuries sustained in a recent road collision. He was 23 years old.

Vitek and DECAPITATED singer Covan (real name: Adrian Kowanek) were hurt in an accident earlier in the week involving DECAPITATED's tour bus and a truck carrying wood in Gomel, on the Russia/Belarus border. Both musicians reportedly sustained serious head injuries in the collision, which is believed to have been the fault of the band's driver (although this has not yet been officially confirmed).

According to the Polish Internet portal Onet.pl, Vitek underwent trepanation, a form of surgery in which a hole is drilled or scraped into the skull, and was due to be transported to a hospital in Krakow, Poland for further treatment.

Covan's family released a statement yesterday (Thursday, November 1) that the vocalist's condition had improved. At the time, the vocalist was still said to be at a hospital in Novozybkov, Russia, where he and Vitek were taken following the accident.

or

I'm leaning towards the gibby- P90 & Burstbucker 3, big solid mahogany body, USA, case.... but I do love the spalted look on the tele(MIK), the duncans w/coil tap, and I've never owned a fender(guitar). I'm looking for something a little different sound wise... not so "heavy" like my other geets, but I don't want to go full on strat/tele twang.

Acoustic guitar rules !!!!!
by zipoid_p on Sun Nov 04, 2007 2:00 am
I'm used to playing metal riffs all down strokes, but recently I’ve bought an acoustic in the vain attempt to learn some old Scottish Irish folk songs. I live in Scotland and if you turn up to a party and someone mentions that you play guitar no-one give's a flying f~ck if you can play 230bpm sweep arpeggios or play Master of puppets start to finish, those bastards want to hear good old time drunken sing-along traditional folk tunes, I’m working on a few oldies along with a few Johnny cash tunes and I must admit it's great, my fingerpick skills have basically improved insanely overnight and my rhythm sounds way tighter than before. I never knew all this open chord stuff was so great to play before; I think I’ll stick with it.
Neck Back-Bow
by Dusty Rhodes on Sun Nov 04, 2007 2:07 am
I just got back from my local Luthier today who gave my USA HardTail its seasonal neck adjustment. You may have read my previous post regarding continual "normal" neck adjustments on my HT. At any rate, the truss rod is now at its most relaxed point without completly taking all tension out of it. The past few adjustments have addressed a constnat gradual back-bow problem. The neck is perfect now but if this back-bow trend continues then I'm screwed. I have e-mailed Dean just to give them a "heads up" as I may be sending this in should it continue. I still have three years left on the warranty so I guess I'm covered. However, I really don't know what you can do with a set neck with a back-bow problem which is beyond the truss limits. Has anyone out there had this problem? I'm hoping that this will stableize and any future adjustments would only involve a periodic tightening of the truss. That would be a nice change.
Amp Question - Spider III 150HD w/Cab

Sup guys, finally got the confimation of registration. I just go my Dean Dixie Rebel 3 weeks and it kicks f'in ass. And now im looking to upgrade my amp. I am looking for stage quality and at the same time not wanting to go over 700$. (I know that might be iffy) but from what i heard the Line6 Spider III 150HD is a great guitar and good for stage settings. I was wondering ya'll think about it if you have one or have played one before.

Pedals.
by TheBozz666 on Sun Nov 04, 2007 8:50 pm
This time of year with the holidays slowly approaching, most people have something stuck in their mind as something nice they'd love to receive on the holidays. Whether it be a Guitar, or a new pickup, maybe a new amp something such as that.

I've really had my mind set on getting some decent pedals, but of course, since i've never had much experience with pedals before i could really use some help.

I have about 3 different pedals in mind i'd like to check out, and maybe get some info, and some soundclips of.

First of all i'd really like to own a EQ pedal, the one i've heard a lot of talk about is the Boss GE-7 EQ, which i believe is a 6 band EQ. if somebody could fill me in on this pedal, or possibly point me in another direction if this pedal isn't worthwhile.

Second one thats been bugging me is a Wah pedal. Theres two main ones i have in mind, they are the Zakk Wylde Wah, or The CFH Wah. If any owners of them could fill me in on how they sound or which one is better, it'd really help me out there.

Third would be an overdrive pedal which is basically where i get lost, i have no references, or a good idea of a good overdrive pedal out there.

if somebody could help me out here with all this pedal stuff, i'd really appreciate it.

DETHKLOK LIVE
by razorback777 on Mon Nov 05, 2007 2:14 am
So most of you know about Dethklok, and how they're on tour. So they came to UC Berkleley on friday, and it was the only show on the tour where you didn't have to be a student at the university the show was a to get in. So I show up an hour early to stand in line to get in (it was first come, first serve). Problem is, the venue holds about 600 people, and the line was about 200 yards long. So After an hour and a half of barely moving (due to UC police requiring everyone to go through a metal detector, and only bringing one) a lady comes outand says they've reached capacity. Now theres probably around 1000 angry metalheads. Not a pretty sight. So we start heading back to the car, and this lady from adultswim comes out, and walks up to me, my friend and ,my brother, and asks if we want to get in. Of course we say yes, and she tells us to wait. So she comes back out about 2 minutes later with VIP passes for us!!! It was so great, we skipped security and everything and were escorted right up to the front! Dethklok SLAYED, it was brutal and friggin hilarious. Their roadies and techs were dressed up with the black masks just like in the show. it was so cool. BUT, adult swim really messed up on this one. Dethklok needs to be playing bigger venues so people don't get denied entry. Still, I gotta say, great show, very creative, and one i'll never forget...
I'm thinking about putting Dimarzio HS3 pickups in my strats
by Blazer on Mon Nov 05, 2007 2:22 am
Today I had the pleasure of playing a Fender Yngwie Malmsteen signature model, an older early nineties model with the small headstock and I really liked how good those Dimarzio pickups sounded, I never heard a strat that could do high gain tones so well.

Image
A 1991 Fender Malmsteen strat, similar to the one I played today.

I love to take my strats out for gigs but with my battle metal outfit they seem ill suited for the gig and I hate the way Strats look with a Humbucker put in. That Malmsteen I played looked every bit a Strat but it roared like a Gibson, unfortunately i don't have the money to buy it and I don't like the scalloped fingerboard.

So I'm planning to fit all three of my strats with HS3 pickups in the bridge position so I can rock out with the best of them and still maintaining the classic Strat look.
Image

My question is do any of you have experience with this pickup and can you tell me to look out for?

Scored A Randall XL Cab Cheap!!
by deathgrind on Mon Nov 05, 2007 3:10 am
Yesterday this guy came in to trade his Randall XL cab wich is like 879 brand new before tax for some pedals or something. Luckily my manager didnt want to take the cab because it had his bands name spray painted on the back of it. I told him I was interested personally and if he wanted to sell it to keep me in mind. He gave me his number and said to give him a call the next day.

I called him today and he told me he would let it go for 200 bucks! Went to pick it up and everything went smoothly! This cab is amazing with the vintage 30s, just screams and has some great bottom end. The sound is extremely tight and doesnt have any rattle at all, doesnt fart out either. It does have some battle scars but nothing too bad. Ill try and get some pron tomorrow.

Anyone use poewr conditioners with their rig?
by Trendkiller96 on Mon Nov 05, 2007 1:32 pm
I was talking to one of my more tech-oriented buddies and was wondering why I got feedback at other people's houses but not in my own apartment. He basically told me that a lot of places, particularly the venues we normally play at, have 'dirty power' and that I should get a power conditioner for all my gear. Does anybody else use them? Or does everybody here just use surge protectors for all their s#%t?
How much of a guitar snob are you?
by Blazer on Mon Nov 05, 2007 4:46 pm
Let's be honest here. All of us love to get our sound coming from Instruments with a pedigree. But are you guys actually ashamed about some of the instruments you own?

Do you find it hard for example to tell somebody that you get your sound because of a cheap pedal or a solid state amp?

In my own case no I am not ashamed of any of my instruments, yes I do own three Squier guitars, yes I do own an ESP LTD Horizon from their cheap line and I'm playing a lot on frankenstein instruments that I made myself. They work for me, so why should I be ashamed of them?

When I visit a guitar shop, my focus goes to the cheaper models because I know that even among them there might be one with a destinctive voice that I can employ. Even if the instrument in question has a plywood body that could still mean that the sum of its parts might harbor an interresting tone.

I used to be a guy who modified his guitars a lot but recently that has subsided and I try to coax tones I like from stock guitars making it a challenge to play them.

My backline is equally simple, I use a Boss Me30 processor because it gives my tones I can't get from a more modern unit. And my amp is a London City Bulldog head through a cheap Chinese made Marshall MG series 4x12 cabinet. The Bulldog basically is a copy of a Mesa Boogie Rectifyer head all tube and it rocks.

To others I may appear to be playing crappy guitars through a cheap tube amp but the fact is that I get the tone I want from that set up. Sure I'd love to own first rate stuff but the fact is that I can get what I want from what I own and why should I be ashamed of that?

The idea is: I'd like to split the guitar signal while recording so that one goes into the mic that mics the amp and the other signal would go D.I.

what would you reccomend?

Song from my band!
by visi0nX on Tue Nov 06, 2007 2:36 am
Title says it all. Lookin for some feedback for now.

It's not finished and won't be for a while but here is a rough draft of it. The guitars were recorded from a Line6 toneport GX. The drums are really bad quality(recorded from a laptop from the 90's with a headset mic) and there is no bass or vocals yet. But it's still worth the listen.

Splawn Quick Rod Vs. Soldano SLO-100.
by * on Tue Nov 06, 2007 4:46 am
which of these is the better amp, and why?

i really dig how the Splawn goes from hot plexi, to hot Jcm, to super hot jcm. it's like 3 amps in 1. the SLO seems really sweet too though. since they're both in the vein of "hot rodded marshall" i was wondering which is considered the best, and for what reasons?

1. an import version of the splittail
2. a razorback v db
3. some crazy cadillac models maybe a full blown run of the cadzilla
4. this is a snowballs chance in hell but i would be bouncing off the walls if they made a razorback z.

Finally Played an Orange...
by Anonymous on Wed Nov 07, 2007 1:48 am
I walked into this music shop down where I'm going to school to pick up a slide and I notice there's a couple Orange combos sitting on the floor. I just figured it was one of those Crushes, the solid state stuff. I walk over and it's two Rocker 30'a. I was ultra excited, because I've been wanting to to try these and the AD series really bad.

I pick up an American strat with a humbucker in the bridge because I figured it was the closest thing they had that was close to my own guitars. I plug it in and try out the cleans first. Eh, they were pretty generic but that's not really the reason I was looking at this amp. It was just your usual Marshally clean. I hardly use cleans, so this wasn't an issue.

I switch it over to the dirty channel and start turning up the distortion little by little. There was almost nothing at first... I keep going, I check to see if I actually put it in the drive channel. Yeah, it was in the drive channel. Normally I wouldn't make a big deal out of this because it is a British amp you're supposed to crank to get that sound, but this amp is actually supposed to be known for it's preamp gain. I get it about 3/4 of the way up and there it is, it got heavy real quick.

This through me off a lot... I play with the gain knob a bit more and it goes from pretty much no gain to a lot real quick, no inbetween. It's either a mild crunch or saturated preamp gain. This isn't a good thing, at least I don't see. It comes off as not very versatile. But anyways, I leave it up and mess with the knobs a bit.

I got a tone that was pretty decent. I play a bit more. This amp is pretty familiar sounding actually. I notice it's not as high gain as Orange leads on. It's not like metal high gain, which is what it came across to me with Jim Root in all the Orange ads as of late. I play with it a bit more, really familiar sounding. I play a bit of ZZ Top, a couple of Van Halen riffs, stuff that is typically known with the British sound. I do a bit heavier stuff, it was enough gain for me and the hard rock stuff, but nothing real metallic. I think it was just barely hitting that typical high gain sound you hear now days. Kind of like a DSL level of gain.

It sounds pretty good. I like it. I don't like the price. But I like the amp. The thing that really bugs me is that the gain knob is pointless, there should be a switch that says "Barely Any Gain" and "Oh, Here's the Gain". But I will say this amp kicked ass at was the fact that you could roll the volume up and down with the volume control and it cleaned up really nice, more so than most amps.

Now... Here's the deal. I don't know how much the dude was originally wanting for the amps. He said he was phasing Orange out of his store because no one could buy them being a college town with a bunch of broke students. He was only wanting around $1,100 which is a good price for these amps used, let alone new. I told him I was interested and he let me take it into the back room and crank it. It sounded better, naturally as tubes tend to do that Wink . Then I was curious about the gain knob on the other Rocker... So I take it in the back room and play both of them back to back, mess with the gain knobs. Same thing. I just figured it varied from amp to amp. Not the case, sadly. Oh well.

Like I said before, this amp sounded very familiar. It sounded very very similar to my Peavey Classic 30. I REALLY hate saying that as Orange is so reputable and I've wanted to love an Orange for the longest time. It was a fun amp, it was a good amp. But I didn't think it was anything too special, especially for the loot they want for it considering I got my Classic 30 for around $500ish. And I also hate saying that because I sound like another one of those people looking for cheap alternatives to high end gear.

I'd still love to try the AD and see if it's worth the money, though.

man what a good show. really intimate. myles broke out his dean resonator to play some robert johnson during the encore. sadly, he doesnt play z's anymore, hes moved to purely prs for electric guitar work.

another animal opened for them, for those of you that arent familiar with them, its basically godsmack minus sully, add another singer. fun little band. first time id ever seen someone playing a mcnaught in person. now i know what a 7 thousand dollar guitar looks like =p.

they had another band open very beginning. daughters of mara. these guys RIPPED s#%t UP.

http://www.myspace.com/daughtersofmara

theyve been playing together for only a year. they have submirsed's old guitarist and man, you metalheads will LOVE their stuff.

anyway, yeah if i could see alter bridge again i totally would. this new sound they have is great. i was REALLY surprised to see how many of the solos on the new album were myles' work.

Picking up a Vintage Modern on Sunday!
by Lanning is Killdozer on Thu Nov 08, 2007 7:00 pm
After trying many different amps searching for that raunchy tone that I need, I came to find the amp I was looking for. Man there were soooo many over the last few years that I have been through. I ended up choosing the Marshall 2266 Vintage Modern 50 watt head. I love metal as much as the next guy, and high gain amps really help achieve the sound in one box, but I have not been totally happy with any platform I have found yet. This amp seemd to pack the exact tone I was looking for. Now I do know that it doesn't have as much gain as I would like, but the tone platform is just what I needed. I plan on getting an OD pedal Sunday too. Probably a ZW-44 or a TS-9 I just love this amp. I put it on layaway today. After my show on Saturday night I'll have enough money to pick it up. I am really excited. I am going to be running it into my 6505 cab. I'll post some pron once I have it in my hands.

Can someone photoshop me a tiger eye v ( the 79 V style not RB or anything, the old school) with all black hardware.

how to make a randall RG75 combo louder...help

i got my rg75 combo and i play really loud in my basement
9 as loud as it will go)...id like to be able to do whatever i can to make the sound bigger and louder without maxing the volume on the amp and pedals and wrecking the speaker...

i have a little 15w behringer amp hooked up to it that makes it a very small bit loud and gives it a wider sound...

i can plug cabs into it to make a bigger louder sound without sacrificing my amp's existing speaker right?

ie. i can use the combo as a head instead right?

Project Report - Dean Custom 450
by BradWorld on Sat Nov 10, 2007 2:57 am
I got this completely stripped Dean Custom 450 in a trade deal. I decided to make a project out of it and see how inexpensively I could put the thing together...

This is how I got it:

Image

The finish is metallic grey, and is in pretty good shape. The neck on this guitar is pretty nice, and the set neck joint is pretty sweet.

Image

The floyd route was a bit messed up. Someone drilled out the original post holes, and put in some odd-ball threaded inserts. They were totally the wrong inserts for a floyd, they were drilled too deep, and they were not in there straight. They were a bear to get out without hosing up the guitar completely... Check out the crappy epoxy around the post inserts... ugh!

Image

First order of business was to carefully pull out the old inserts. Since I did not have the posts that fit the inserts, and they were epoxied in there too deeply, it required a bit of carefull surgery to remove the old posts. The we had to epoxy dowel pieces into the holes to get them to the correct depth for the proper floyd inserts. Then we had to expoxy the new inserts in place... I also needed to route out the floyd cavity a bit...

Image

Next I added some nifty purple tuners I had laying around. They actually look pretty cool on this headstock.

Image

Then I cleaned up the floyd route a bit more, and touched up the black paint inside the cavity. I added a new licensed floyd rose speedloader I got from guitar fetish. Pretty nice. cost $65.

Image

There is what I have so far. A couple of pickups off the surplus shelf from my shop... some chrome rings... they will do for now. If this guitar turns out killer, I will put in black rings and change the neck pup to a black one...

Image

This weekend I will install the pots, selector switch, and wire it up. So far so good... Laughing

New Gear
by -JiMi DRiX- on Sat Nov 10, 2007 11:32 pm
I just went and picked up a Furman M-8D Power Conditioner, and a Road Runner case. I put the Conditioner in, and I won't be able to put the amp in until later (it's at our practice place), but the slot looks awfully skinny.. maybe it'll fit and it's just my eyes.

The only thing I really have to hook up to my conditioner is my amp head. But I can put anything in it right?? Like.. the power adapter for my pedal board etc?? I dont know crap about this thing, other than I needed to get one to keep clean power through my head.

Would you recommend?
by JimmyRiggedMetal on Sun Nov 11, 2007 3:48 am
Alright so I have a razorback import.

Well I have watched the Tom Maxwell from HELLYEAH 'interview' a couple times. And he mentions the un-finished neck on his Soltero and how it allows him to keep moving up and down then neck without getting 'stuck'. Question is, my hands tend to sweat more then usual so I find myself getting 'stuck' I guess you could say.

Would you recommend getting a "professional" sand job.....lol...seriously though. Or is there like a polish that will aid in the sticky ness?

New Roundie (NDC) w/pron

My first LP... one of those "Guitar of the Week" deals... LP Studio w/ P90 neck. I'm really diggin' the P90...

On with the pron

Image

Image

Image

Image

Look at that neck/body angle... looks weird everytime I see it...

Image

It's a great guitar, sounds different than anything else I have. The P90 is awesome, but noisy. It's not as heavy as I thought it would be, but it's got killer sustain. Will be better after I get it set up properly.

Also, bought an Explorer a few months back, but never posted it (I know, I'm a slacker). Got it for $899 w/HSC from GC because there's a big scratch on the back. Here it is after a few mods... SD Blackouts, black tonepros, black tuners, blacker than the blackest bl... oh, wait. It's cherry Razz

Guitar problem
by visi0nX on Sun Nov 11, 2007 5:08 pm
I have an FBD tribute guitar and my band was practicing yesterday and just out of nowhere my treble pickup went half volume with like half distortion. I switch to mid it sounds fine i switch to bass it sounds fine.

Also when i play on the clean, switching to bass pickup has been messed up for me for a while now but it wasn't a big deal to me. Now using the treble, that is also screwed up on the clean channel as well.

I don't know what to do in a situation like this so i came here first. Just in case theres any little fixes that i could do on my own or if i would have to straight up get new pickups installed.

I hope I'm using the guitar terms right, heh.

Questions Regarding Shipping a Guitar

Need help identifing a B.C. Rich
by That_One_Person on Sun Nov 11, 2007 7:56 pm
So Friday I was at the local GC because I had to go to the doctor that was close to the GC. So I get there, look at some effects, check out some Deans, mess with a Jackson RR3, then I get to a certain B.C. Rich neck-thru V that I liked. It had an OFR, 81/85 pups, an ebony fretboard, abalone binding, and black hardware for $749. It also said "Deluxe" on the TRC. I don't think this model was listed on the website. I am confused, so I decided to ask the friendliest guitar forum ever.

Thanks,

Modded the 1980 Reissue...............
by Jugghaid on Sun Nov 11, 2007 9:42 pm
I took the 1980 Reissue Dean Caddy and upgraded it a bit.

Added all black hardware including Grover tuners, and tossed a Bill Lawrence USA L500XL pickup in the bridge position and a GFS Crunchy Rails in the neck position. Swapped out all the pots as well and put black speed knobs on to match: Big thanks to Steve at BRG for hooking me up with some of the parts.

EMG 81 & 85 Questions / Advice
by shredder0609 on Tue Nov 13, 2007 5:58 pm
I hope I don't get flammed for this one? I have an Ibanez RG320 with two Dimebuckers in her and was thinking of adding the EMG 81 & 85 pickups. 1.) Is this terribly difficult other than the cutting?
2.) Should I expect a completely different sound? 3.) Just bought a Dean DBH lightning bolt, and would like to have two different sounding axes. Thanks in advance guys!!
Dethklok... TONIGHT! (UPDATE w/ Crappy Pron)
by Anonymous on Tue Nov 13, 2007 9:07 pm
Well needless to say the show was awesome... Everyone in the band was tight. And yes, Gene Hoglan is actually that big in real life. Brendon had the power stance down. I was mostly impressed with Mike Keneally. He was a monster! Everyone first saw him come out and kind of chuckled until he went into his first solo. The crowd went absolutely quiet every time he went into a solo then roared in applause when he was done. Brendon has some killer chops and is very fluid as well. Bryan Beller was killer, too. I was afraid the bass was going to be really low in the mix, as most metal bands do that anymore. He had some killer fills you can tell he was really working with Gene as he would glance back and smile every once in awhile.

Unfortunately, the venue was meant for classical performance so the acoustics were horrid and took forever for your ears to get used to. This REALLY showed when Trail of Dead were on stage as they had echo and reverb on EVERYTHING. Using that much reverb live is a bad thing in general, but you couldn't tell ANYTHING that was being played because of all the mud.

A couple of my favorite things about the show...
1. No EMGs in sight (in any guitar...)
2. No Floyds
3. The guitar techs were dressed up like the minions from the show and one of them had a 'birthday.' It was pretty funny.

And before I get into pron... Here's a brief gear list of stuff I noticed.

Mike:
-Jackson Randy Rhoades V (Black) for entire show with the exception of Duncan Hills Coffee Jingle.
-Gibson Les Paul (Black... I think it was a standard) for Duncan Hills
-Krank Halfstack... Couldn't tell if the head was a Rev1 or Krankenstein
-Krank Krankenstein Cabinet
-Pedals unknown

Brendon:
-Gibson Explorer (Black w/ Black Chrome looking Treadplate Pickguard) for everything with the exception of Duncan Hills Coffee Jingle.
-Gibson SG '61 Reissue (Cherry) for Duncan Hills
-Krank Halfstack... Couldn't tell if the head was a Rev1 or Krankenstein
-Krank Krankenstein Cabinet
-Only audibly noticeable pedal was the Digitech Whammy for the Detheme, other than that I didn't get a look

Bryan:
To be honest, I couldn't tell anything he was using. I was to say his amp was SWR, but I'm not positive. Everything looked very boutique. He used a red bass with a maple board for the entire show.

Gene: Tons of Pearl s#%t

Now on with the Pron. I forgot my actual camera so here's crappy phone pictures. Most were taken during the closing song when the entire band was lit up.

Looking to buy a half stack?
by Conbud on Wed Nov 14, 2007 8:23 pm
I'm in need of a half stack and wanted some opinions on what would work best. I'm not in a band and don't plan on gigging...I'm trying to keep it in decent price range, like the $500-$700 half stacks out there.

Kustom
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Kustom-QUAD-JR.-100W-Half-Stack-Guitar-Amplifier?sku=481275

I'm really looking at this one, but I don't think it will have enough to get me over the drums.
Krank
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Krank-Rev-Jr.-20W-HalfStack-Guitar-Amp?sku=481613

Line 6
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Line-6-HD150-Guitar-Amp-Head-Spider-III-412-Speaker-Cabinet?sku=485062

Now remember, this is not for gigging....just jam sessions with my bro who plays drums. So all I really need it for is to get my sound above his drums. I have different pedals...so effects are no issue.. I want pure power for the price.

Feedback is much welcome,
Thanks

Tuning down question
by visi0nX on Thu Nov 15, 2007 3:31 am
I'm tuned C standard and i never bothered to ask but is it normal that my Floyd Rose is like i guess you'd say bent way back that my Whammy Bar when moved to the back touches my volume knobs. Take note I'm not using the whammy when it already touches the volume knobs. I have an FBD dime trib guitar. The tuning down did that to the floyd and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to fix that.

what a cool little amp! the amp models on this thing sound fantastic, i dont understand how line 6 seem to dominate the digital market yet their amp models sound really digital, whilst roland models sound really realistic. I love the acoustic setting! and of course you cant beat the rectifier model.

I do have a few questions though...

#1 how do you record using the line out? (maybe a stupid question?)

#2 can you use the boss footswitch with these (to switch effects on/off etc) because the amp doesnt have a footswitch jack

EDIT:

#3 can you use the line out to connect larger speakers? e.g my randall warhead speakers?

Convolution reverb?

Anything else???

Opened her up and was surprised and elated as it was not quite as yellow as I feared. Good looking guitar and I am sure it sounds great Cool

Then I went to bed immediately for several hours. I got up to post this and have something for dinner

When I feel a little better and it's not raining, I will post a little pron, everybody know's what the Bird looks like but more images to show off are a requisite. Can't wait to plug her in, will just have to wait until I feel better

Again, thank you Gene for the trade, I see you were not home to get yours, FedEx attempted delivery at 2:18pm so make sure your ass is home tomorrow to get a new pair of amber legs & wings for the Korina Kollection Laughing
Not sure if anyone seen this, but well worth checking out.

New band...rig mods?

http://www.myspace.com/collagemenagerocks

Just got together with these guys for the first time today for practice. It went pretty well. They've been around for some time, and I've seen them when I could. I'm looking forward to rocking out with these dudes-they're a blast!!!!!!!!! I picked up most of the songs they went through today, no problem, and have a couple cds to get me up to speed on the rest.

Needless to say, I'm not exactly what you'd call much above a living room rocker, and my rig reflects this: JCM 800, Metaltronix 4x12, power conditioner, 5 band eq, BBE 482i. I don't have anything else but a wah, delay, a couple random OD pedals, and a chorus, none of which I ever use anymore. I get great rock tones out of it, but there are some of their songs I have to play with some pretty sparkly clean tones, namely Liquor Store.

What's a good way to get a decent (not awe-inspiring) clean tone out of my rig without spending a bunch of money? Line out the microcube into the pa? Carry my Randall combo with me and use it for cleans with an A/B switch? That seems like a lot of crap to carry...but I'm new to this. Should I just run it a little dirty, use the overdrive pedal, then use my Tele for clean songs with the volume rolled back a bit?

I have no idea. I haven't been in a band that didn't run balls-out rock all the time, so this is a bit new to me.

The best guitarplayers from cartoons.
by Blazer on Sat Nov 17, 2007 10:17 am
Let's talk about the best and most memorable guitarists from the animated world.

First up Edd AKA Double D from "Ed, Edd N Eddy".
Image
"Double D is the local nerd from the series, a neat freak who excells in school and is the voice of reason. "Double D" is a virtuoso on Pedal Steel being able to play the most amazing lines on the instrument and even play them with his feet. Despite his mastery of that instrument Double D states that he loathes the pedal Steel. Sorry for the crappy pic, the only episode I found where he was playing the pedal steel was of very questionable quality.

Then there's Trent Lane of "Daria"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3O0Lm_Pey3Y
Trent was the main male character of the series and for a long time the object of lead character Daria's affections. Trent is the stereo typical Gen-X musician, clean on being an original and writing all the songs for his band "Mystic Spiral" himself. Trent is both leadsinger and lead guitarist, his solos however are nothing special nor are his songwriting skills anything to write home about. The clip from the episode "Pierce me" is a good example of the kind of music Trent wrote.

Alvin from The Chipmunks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EkmnlmtNLo
Although each member of the Chipmunks was a multi instrumentalist and Alvin was also frequently seen playing keyboards, in most of the episodes he played guitar. The Chipmunks however only played covers (aside from the opening tune in the clip) so we cannot really judge his playing. Although being able to actually play every song that was covered by the Chipmunks must mean that he was a pretty skilled player.

Noodle from The Gorillaz
Image
Noodle is a Japanese girl who shipped herself to England where she joined the band "The Gorillaz" She got her name from the food she ate during the trip. According to the Band's website the only english word she knows is "Noodle" but lead vocals on songs like "19-2000" and "Dare" show otherwise.

Blossom from The powerpuff girls
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06b8bd2f2pA
Although the Powerpuff girls only did one performance as a band (In the episode "Mime for a change") Blossom stole the show playing her Flying V using her stumps. How is it possible to play a solo like that when you got no fingers? The clip comes from the Japanese dub of the Powerpuff Girls, the only USA versions I found were so bad in quality that I just couldn't show those.

Finally from Tom and Jerry there's Uncle Pecos
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIyxHJlQFgA
Uncle Pecos is a country and Western guitar slinger with a considerable technique and a thick stuttering southren brawl. He also has a peculiar taste for strings using Tom's whiskers instead of packing some spare sets. Listen to the solo he plays at 4:50. I wouldn't be surprised if a certain player called Les Paul has played that one in.

Headstock: Matching
Pickups: Stock (black?)
Hardware: Black
Inlays: Block
Bridge: String Thru
Neck: Set
Fingerboard: Rosewood

we arent currently decided on whether the logo will be abalone, black or white. we were going with abalone but decided it would knock up the price too much ($75 for an abalone logo) so im pretty sure its either black or white, I dont think we actually decided which, if we are going with the polls it will be white) im not sure about the inlays either, again the abalone could knock up the price so they will most likely be white. if you have any question please post it in the official thread in the dealers section (link in my sig) im just posting this here for the guys who dont visit the dealers section regularly and may want in on this run

here is are some examples of how the run finish will (hopefully) turn out:

my new nearfield monitors
by damigu on Sun Nov 18, 2007 8:28 pm
did anyone else get that 20% off guitar center postcard good on friday morning after thanksgiving?
am i the only one disturbed by the fact that they're sending out pictures of severed fingers to musicians--people who are dependent on their fingers for their beloved hobbies/careers?
(i grasp the graphical representation of 20% off, but that just ain't right)

anyway, i went to GC today to do some more A/B comparison of the dynaudio BM5A's and mackie HR624mkII's and came to the same decision as before--that the mackies are slightly harsher in the treble (i think due to the modified mkII enclosure--because my friend's original HR824's have the same tweeter but don't have that touch of harshness).
so i made my decision for the BM5A's.

in typical GC salesguy fashion, the guy descends on me like a hawk and starts getting pushy, trying to close the sale (i used to work retail and was wildly successful at it, so i know all the tactics inside and out).

so i tell him, "i'm just looking right now--i'll be back on friday morning to actually buy with the 20% off postcard."

so, again in typical GC desperate-for-a-sale salesguy fashion, he tells me he'll give me 20% off *both* speakers today (the postcard is only good for a single item)!

sweet!

so i just came home with my new dynaudio BM5A monitors.
about 892 billion times better than the headphones and 10 year old computer speakers i've been using for mixing.
i'm really excited to start recording/mixing with these beasties.

If YOU could have a signature model, what would it be like?
by Blazer on Tue Nov 20, 2007 12:33 am
Let's talk about what kind of guitar you would love to have if some company would offer you a Signature model.

For me it would be based on my "Goblin" guitar. Which has proven itself to be the perfect guitar for the kind of powermetal I play with my band.
Image

In the fact that I would want it to have the same specs of a Fender type 25/5 scale neck, a single Duncan JB humbucker en a hardtail bridge. I would spec the upmarket model with the shape of the orginal guitar.

The fun thing about having your models is that the artist can come up to the firm and ask for some crazy custom in a different shape. So I probably would ask for a strat shaped or Les Paul Shaped guitars too as long as they come with direct mounted Duncan JB pickups and a hardtail bridge.

PRETTY GOOD CD

I THINK THE DRUMMER IS THE TALENT IN THE BAND.

THE SINGER HAS GOTTEN BETTER

GUITAR PLAYERS STILL RIP FOR COMMERCIAL RADIO METAL. NO YNGWIE BUT STILL VERY GOOD PLAYERS.

MOST THE SONGS HAVE GOOD POP SONG STRUCTURE AND WELL WRITTEN.

LOTS OF HOOKS SO THEY WILL MAKE LOTS OF CASH AND HAVE BETTER CAREERS THAN ALL THE HATERS.
Good audio recording program?
by Serbusfish on Tue Nov 20, 2007 1:35 pm
Just got my microcube hooked up to my computer so I can do some recording. Been using audacity and it works good, but I need something better. I need a program that lets your previous recording play while you record something over the top of it, like say i lay down a rhythm then want to solo over it. Does anyone know a program that can do this?
Laboga Amplification
by Meisterjäger on Tue Nov 20, 2007 4:07 pm
Just caught wind that Seth from Behemoth is using these Laboga 'Mr Hector' 100 watt all-valve amplifiers.

Image

Rear

Image

Looks like they have decent features. The amp can be powered up with tube or diode rectification, and its changeable between 100 and 50 watts on the front panel. Strikes me as a poor mans Mesa. Or a simple man's Mesa. Doesn't sound at all like a Mesa though... which is GOOD news.

I've also seen that Jeff Waters has a signature model of the Mr Hector, unsurprisingly called the 'Annihilator Mr Hector', with an 'additional effects loop on the drive channel'.

Image

The strangest thing is that the write up for the Mr Hector is terrible. Like it was written by a 10 year old with an engineering degree... but then I realised it's probably a very sketchy translation from Polish. Didn't notice they were Polish first time round.

Don't suppose anyone's tried them? There's no UK dealers, best we've got is http://www.musicstore.de/
in Germany, but Rock Solid Amps in Hollywood is cited as a dealer for the USA, as of 3 days ago. There's a load of sound bytes on www.rocksolidamps.com

Priced at €1273,74, £859.14.

From the clips on rock solid, it sounds mean. I really like the way the mids are sounding on the sound byte by Derek. That's definitely my kinda sound. I'll be waiting with baited breath for this thing to turn up somewhere in this country...

New Strat day

Obviously NDC. Razz Got this Monday night from a kid on Craigslist....for $140! They retail for $650. Twisted Evil The kid lives in the richy part of Indianapolis so his Daddy probably gave it to him. Anyway, mine now! It's pretty much mint except for a huge freakin' chunk of missing paint by the output jack. I think nail polish will fill it in good enough. This is the most expensive Fender I've ever owned. I've wanted one of the Classic series ever since they came out but could never afford one. To top it off, last night a guy offered me a brand new 70s Classic Strat for my SG! Had to turn him down though because I really need to sell whatever guitar I have and his wasn't worth quite as much on ebay as the SG. Would have loved to have it though! The bottom shot is the 70s that I was offered.

strings
by Black Wolf on Wed Nov 21, 2007 5:55 pm
just a question about strings, will generally a heavier gauge of string give you more chunk? does nickel plating make much of a difference over non nickel plated, when your looking at a set like 10-52 the 52 would be the thickest string, working its way down right? im so confused.

tremel-no question
by Adio_stack on Thu Nov 22, 2007 6:07 am
quick question about the tremel-no

Is it possible to install one on my KV2 and have it full floating just like normal in standard e tuning

Then put it in hardtail mode unlock the nut and change my tunings (drop d or c or some stuff)

Then tune it back to e lock the nut and put it back in full floating without anything being effected.

Will that work?

L-500-XL Poll An Honest Evaluation
by satch0922 on Thu Nov 22, 2007 1:34 pm
I know this topic is very controversial however having tried both products it occurred to me that an honest poll from musicians that have used both the "USA" and the "B&B" L-500XL would help other forum users make an informed decision.

Evaluation should take into account craftsmanship, power, tone etc.

So much controversy surrounds such a simple decision that I think a lot of players miss out on the whole thing. I for one almost passed on going down the L-500XL road because of it. Hopefully this will be an honest poll from users of both pickups.

No history lesson needed here....we have all read pages and pages of that.

My new digital drums
by Hųgger'n on Fri Nov 23, 2007 1:23 am
Ok I KNOW this is a guitar forum but I thought I'd promote some drumlove for you Smile

As the title implies,I just bought a Eastone digital drumset. It isn't
much to brag about but I got it dirt-cheap secondhand.
Anyway I've connected it to a VST plugin using Cubase 'cause the
samples in the kit sound as cheap as they get.

I made a little vid ,with my crappy digital camera, were I play a tune
I just made.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zI7chm95LJ4

This is a quick and dirty recording.
The guitar tracks were laid down with my Agile 3500 Barriton trought my DC Demonizer.
I also used a Yamaha BB415 bass trough my POD XT.
String review update
by Jag Panzer on Fri Nov 23, 2007 1:48 am
Since I asked for string suggestions I've tried Ernie Ball and GHS. Both were ok, but I think I still like DR better.

However, I played a Les Paul with Knucklehead strings on it and I thought they felt great.

Granted, I don't know if they make thier own strings or are simply re-branding, but I did like them.

So when doing my recording this weekend I'll be trying Knuckleheads on my Deans.
New Patriot Black Day (NDC)
by cerebrix1 on Fri Nov 23, 2007 3:23 am
OK OK

I know i was supposed to get a Gibson BFG. A lot of you guys know I had one on order and was just awaiting pickup.

Well after 2+ months of waiting on guitar center and being told "its en route" for over a month i got sick of waiting. So I started considering other options.

I was actually about to pull the trigger on a mustaine but i decided to go home after playing one and thinking about it for a bit. I walked into the local lil music store by my house and found this fiddle hung up, just came in.

I knew the specs, ben chafin designed, 1/2" maple cap on mahogany deep carve body, real tone pro's bridge, triple binding, string thru body, real ebony fingerboard with grey dots, rockfield fatass pickups direct mounted, coil taps, and a single volume and tone pot.

i figured there had to be a catch though. After an hour of playing it, i knew there was no catch. This fiddle is in every way, better than any usa les paul studio ive ever laid hands on. I loved this so much, i went back the next day, and ordered a satin one. it'll be here in december as they are on backorder.

the way to think of this guitar, is the eVo's older brother. What kills me, is this guitar can be had all day, for under 500 bucks. All I can say, is its going to take a lot to get me to buy another fiddle after this. The sustain is insane, this thing rings thru the body like no other.

on to the porno. apologies for the pics, its my neighbors camera and it kinda sucks but hey, beggars cant be choosers.

Teaching guitar
by muckers on Fri Nov 23, 2007 4:03 pm
So yeah, I've got the opportunity to teach someone some stuff on guitar. Not full time tuition or anything, just teaching the basics and a bit further.

Thing is, where do I start? What do I teach? How do I go about it?

I played guitar from magazines and tab sites for a year before I had lessons, and I'd been having piano lessons for seven years before I even picked up a guitar so the general music knowledge/theory was there.

And when I started lessons, I'd already got a bit of knowledge - knew chords, knew a couple of scales etc. etc.

So any tips on where to begin? Anyone taught people guitar before, or shown someone around a bit?

Having played the guitar for a while, you often take the basics like knowing where the notes are on the fretboard, knowing chords and basics like the pentatonic or major scales as a given.

NEW GUITAR DAY *NDC*

Came across this at my local Guitar Center the other day for $549 used. My guy told me to come back today (black Friday) because of the sale and I could have it for like $425 or something. Basically $400 with tax. I forget the total. ANYWAY here be what I got. Don't have a full review of it just yet because (big shock) the set up was HORRIBLE! I have to fix all that up before I really get to do a review on it. From the little fixing I already did, it plays pretty good. Neck joint is awesome, has INSANE sustain, neck is a little thin for my taste, and the tone is a little bitey with my current settings but I'm sure with tweaking that'll be changed.

Do you own a guitar not made from wood?
by Blazer on Sat Nov 24, 2007 3:20 am
I guess that Guitars made from alternative materials have a stigma of being less than an instrument than ones made from the most ornate woods. But this isn't always the case, take for example the Danelectro guitars made from pressed hardboard, or the Ampeg Dan Armstrong plexiglass guitar or the Valco airline guitars made from plastic and I haven't even mentioned Ovation yet.

So do you guys have guitars that aren't made from solid wood?
In my own case, yes I DO have guitars that aren't made of wood. And here they are.

Xpression or G-Major?
by Steel City Psycho on Sat Nov 24, 2007 10:34 pm
Lately I've been thinking about picking up a delay pedal and possibly a parametric EQ.

Depending on what brand and where I purchase them I'll probably end up spending over $300 if not more.

So as I was looking at various pedals I also started reading about the Rocktron Xpression and the T. C. Electronics G-Major. Both are around the same ballpark (without considering the addition of a midi controler). They're a little more expensive than $300, but offer delay and a parametric EQ, plus some other things I don't have like reverb and some other effects.

Both also have things I already have like noise reduction, compression, chorus, flange, etc, but would allow me to limit my pedal chain and possibly the tone suck of said chain.

The point I'm liking about these though is my amp is midi switchable and I would be able to assign effects to channels and switch everything with one button, footswitch, etc. when I buy a midi controler.

I've checked out Rocktron.com, T.C. Electronic's page, Harmony Central Reviews, etc.

I'm sure some of you guys have one of these or the other or maybe have tried both.

What are your thoughts?

My local guitar stores do not stock rack gear, so I can't go check them out myself.

Harmony Central and Musician's Friend reviews really bash the G-Major for it's reliability, says it keeps freezing and losing pre-sets. Also the Harmony Central reviews lean toward the Rocktron sound wise.

Right now, I'm leaning toward the Xpression. It doesn't have as many effects as the G-Major, but seems more reliable and user friendly.

Rocktron's website is not as decriptive as T. C.s for all the features. I know the G-Major has the reverse delay which is something I want. Rocktron doesn't mention it on their site in the description and I'm having a problem downloading the manual to check it out myself.

Does anyone know if the Xpression has reverse delay as well.

Also is the Xpression more user friendly? I actually despise technology and have never owned/messed around with such a unit so I don't want something that is too complicated.

Thanks

now saving about 4 grand, 3600 to be exact for the USA i want, Would take anywhere from 1 year to 2 years because i work at a Toy Store and give guitar lessons on the side plus go to school and a band and blah blah

Should i bite the bullet and just save for my dream USA DEAN

or just continue to buy 700-1000 dollar import deans and be happy with it

Advice please

heres the carlino guitar i want, hopefully i can get the same one done by Dean because that is most certainly what i want and i have been eyeballing it for some time now

81 'The Paul', Walnut body, Mahogany neck, Ebony fretboard, 'Firebrand' logo, Dunlop 6100s, Super D (eh...)/59 (sweet!) combo, Tonepros everything, and lots of mileage. I encrusted this in stickers since it was @#%$@!!& and I was younger and stupid. I still do whenever I find something I really like. It plays and sounds great! This is the first guitar that sold me on Tonepros...now if I just could justify an extra $40 for tapped holes with setscrews... Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Now THAT's some mileage. Laughing Laughing

Getting the BLOODROOT tone????
by Jag Panzer on Sun Nov 25, 2007 4:12 pm
I was listening to the new Bloodroot tune (cool song Kris!) when I noticed that Kris has the cool snappy punchy tone that Meshugah, Chris Broderick and others have.

That tone is 100% in the hands, because Chris Broderick can take my guitar from my hands and get with my gear.

I can't get that tone at all. The guys mentioned above (Kris, Chris, Meshugah) are better players then I am, but I'm not sure that tone is exclusive to better players. For example, Micheal Schenker does not have that tone and he's a great player. Tony Iommi (who I play like) doesn't have a tone even close to that.

It's a killer tone, very 'in your face' and aggressive.

So how do guys get that sound??

My theory, and it's just a theory, is that is has to do with the speed that the note is picked. I think that the picking/fretting motion is much quicker and firmer with these guys.

Any thoughts on this???

Recording of all my U.S. Deans
by Jag Panzer on Sun Nov 25, 2007 8:55 pm
http://www.jagpanzer.com/allDeansNew1.mp3

I laid down a simple bass/drum pattern and played the following guitars over it (NOT in this order) -

Dean Cadillac with Miracle Man pups
Dean Hardtail with Rebel Yells
Dean Soltero with Rebel Yells
Brian Moore i80

I played the Brian Moore to see if there is a Dean 'sound'.

Here's how the pattern works. Each guitar does this ---

4 bars of rhythm guitars
4 bars with harmony guitars

Then it switches to the next guitars --

The rhythm guitars have nothing on them. No eq, verb, compression, nothing. So don't expect a mixed sound. All guitars use the same settings, same mic position, everything. All guitars were restrung at the same time with Knucklehead strings.

The results were interesting to me. I thought I'd here more differences in the various guitars.

any one know of a really good guitar book that covers things like guitar maintenance and repair (setups to pickup installation) and maybe even a little hot rodding, preferably, hardcover but doesn't have to be, but I would REALLY like colored photos.

Is this an overdrive pedal? Can it be used on solid state amps to give off a slightly overdriven tube sound?

I'm interested in getting it along with a Roland Jazz Chorus amp. Not sure yet wheter i'll be purchasing the Jazz Chorus. I may go after a Fender tube amp and a Fulltone OCD if the amount of money in my pocket allows it.

Just wanted to know about the BD-2. Razz
New Dean 79' F

Hi,

I´m probably going to buy a Dean Ml 79' F. I heared that the Floyd Rose sucks so I thought that I´d buy a new Floyd Rose from Schaller and replace it with the old one but I heared that new Floyds don´t have enough space for action. Is that true?

Hey, quick question here

Im new. Hi.

Alright, that's over with.

Now onto the question Laughing

Is it possible to run Amplitube, and then run my guitar straight into my Mic or Line In jack on the front panel of my XFI Platinum and then use Amplitube as my amp?

If so, how would I do it? any special settings via amplitube?

Also, will adobe audition read amplitube? Can i use amplitube with that?

new amp day (DIEZEL)
by zao on Tue Nov 27, 2007 3:06 am
well im not gonna write a big review but i will say the amp is pretty cool and its well built. im not shy about my dislike for diezels tone, i had a 2002 vh4 and a 2003 herbert last year and i hated them. but my taste in amps has changed a little since then so i decided its time to give diezel another shot.
so far i like this one better than my last one, i need to spend alot of time with this amp before i make my mind up if i wanna keep it, so far i like it but i dont love it. i liked it the best with my uberkab better than my mesa cab.

Amps...
by Hot Sauce on Tue Nov 27, 2007 6:06 am
I'm in a Christian band formerly known as Fireproof. We're currently changing our name though it's not completely decided on yet. We're rather popular in the Northeast MS area and we're also known for causing mayhem at the gig location. Laughing

Think of us as a watered down Christian version of Motley Crue. Laughing

Anyways, that's not important. I'm looking at some cheapo amps due to the fact that i'm a cheapo person. Razz

I'll admit...I am a fan of Marshall's MG series amps. Laughing

So now that's off my chest, i'll go on to say that I am particularly fond of the red MG100HDFX Half Stack. Seen here:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Marshall-MG100HDFXRMG412AR-100-Watt-HalfStack?sku=482719

The Kustom Quad 100DFX I have right now does not cut it. It sounds like crap. I mean, I know the majority of you despise the MG amps, but it SLAYS this Kustom.

Yeah, so i'm definately keeping a look out for it.

Hi guys....
Does anyone know what's going on with the Rusty Cooley Signature guitar? I pre ordered one back in March with the understanding that they were going to be released in April. Unfortunately, it's late November now and they still aren't ready. Any clue when they'll be available for shipping? The last I heard was sometime in December, but how accurate is that? Anyone know??? Thanks guys. Have yourself a great day. Cheers...
Bartolini humbuckers?
by Metal_et_al on Tue Nov 27, 2007 7:07 pm
Anyone here have any experience with Bartolini humbuckers?

I bought a pair off of Ebay a couple of weeks ago. The guy I bought them from didn't know the model # or ohms of them. It took some effort for the guy to measure the length of the leads Rolling Eyes

Anyway, they rate at 8.1 and 8.5K ohms. There is no indication of any model number at all on these things. As far as I know, these pups were made in the 90s. The mounting bracket was loose on the the 8.1, and underneath was written "TUCK SP". The 8.5 had what appears to be "514" written on one of the legs of the mounting bracket.

The only support number for Bartolini is a fax number! No email, no voice line. I sent a fax last week but haven't heard anything.

Anyone have a good support contact for Bartolini? I was hoping to get some kind of a feel for what model these pups are and what they sound like before the go into the upcoming Cadzilla.

BTW, if you're wondering why the frickety I'd buy pups that I have no idea what they sound like, one of my favorite guitarist (Criss Oliva) had a Barto in the bridge of his favorite guitar, and I loved the tone that cat had.
JCM2000 ... TSL vs DSL

Let me get your opinions, Go.

My first effect pedal?
by Harry P. Ness on Wed Nov 28, 2007 3:19 am
I've got a number of pedals but they're three EQ's, a tuner, an overdrive, a noise gate, and a Sonic Maximizer.

I want to start getting some pedals to have fun with lead tones. I want to keep it around $100 a pedal. Right now I'm thinking a phaser, a wah, and maybe a chorus pedal. Which should I get first?

Anyone else try a T-O-M roller bridge?
by transblueZ on Thu Nov 29, 2007 1:07 am
I just replaced the stock bridge in my Epiphone Iommi SG with one of these.
Image
Just from a comfort level, it was well worth the swap. The bridge on this guitar seems a bit more closer to the neck than other guitars and the stock saddles were a bit harsh.
The only draw back on this particular bridge type is how the intonation is set. You have to loosen the allen nut, move the bridge, tighten, tune, check repeat. I had to flip the saddle on the G-string around as well as I ran out of room.

Will Adler LTD Guitar - Lamb of God
by rridner on Thu Nov 29, 2007 1:52 am
My local shop got one of these in today and called me as I was getting off work. I went down there and checked it out for a bit. Really nice playing guitar. The Ebony board looks almost black - which is sweet! The Flag/Stars inlays are awesome too. Surprisingly, the guitar is pretty thick. I was expecting it to have a thin body style like the other Eclipse models, but it is thicker like a Les Paul. All in all, an awesome guitar.

I hope the board on the Rebel Stealth is this dark! Cool

Does anyone else have a thing with black guitars?
by Conbud on Thu Nov 29, 2007 7:53 pm
I've owned five guitars since I was 15 years old. I was going through some old pics and just realized that every one of them were black.

Even though I know I'm a fan of black guitars, I still find it to be crazy that I never bought any other color. My first guitar was a Harmony bass that my dad had bought me for a b-day present. Guess what color it was???

And now with the Stealth on the way, the tradition shall live on.Cool
