Dave Mustaine on his Dean Guitars
by Wes on Tue May 01, 2007 5:44 am
Sorry if this has been posted already...
"I need to tell Elliot and Dean that nothing has ever made me this excited about a guitar! I can’t wait to get my new models and watch Glen and Shawn slobber! Yee-haw!!! And to ddrums! I have never seen a cooler drum kit in my life! Thanks you guys!"
From the megadeth forums.
gettin my valveking today
i cant wait to get it, its the 212 one, i just gotta get £70 more out and itll be mine!!!!
Scott Ian claimed lately that the next Anthrax record is on its way, but, as he says himself, "who sings? i don"t know ! "
Just wanted to know how you guys feel about this "band"....as for me, their future is compromised, the reunion s#%t being a huge error to me. Now they don't have a singer, a lead guitar, let alone a credibility. John bush is one of the greatest singer ever to me, but, even though it's really frustrating, i'm happy that he turned down the offer of getting back in the band. It demonstrates he's not a whore.

hey guys new user. i was wondering which dean is the best for the money: the dime o flame, the far beyond driven, or the dean from hell. also there is a washburn dime st pro for sale at a local music shop for $1100: is it worth it?
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Dean-Razorback-V-Standard-Electric-Guitar?sku=511852
I dont trust anything besides the USA models now, My friend bought a FBD and it's falling apart, so im a little split
which guitar is overall better: the razorback or the washburn stealth? or are the ml dime's better than both?

I was wondering if I used a podxt live through my warheads clean channel with the 5150 patch would it sound decent? Im basically wanting a tone like in flames clayman, but I cant afford to buy another amp to get that tone so if I bought a podxt live could I get the tone that way?

Warmer Pickups
by Ed K on Wed May 02, 2007 3:01 am
I've got a 78 V with the original Dimarzio super distortions in it. I love the guitar, and like the pick ups just fine-- most of the time. Lately, I've been looking for a warmer, rounder, bluesier sound. Any suggestions as to pickups to warm the sound up.
Ed
So would cost an arm and a leg to get my Dime-O-Flame refinished?
£370 out of pocket and pron, if u care

only problem is that the lead doesnt reach the wall plug, by about a foot...
TUBE HEAVEN.... Thanks Randy!!!
by tazz888 on Wed May 02, 2007 4:56 pm
I just received my new 6505 combo...... all I can say is WOW!!!!!
I've been playing for over 16 years and always used solid state. After reading all the praises of tubes I decided I had to have one. Randy recomended the 5150/6505 to me...thanks man!
I didn't have time to tweek it so I turned all the knobs to 7 (AC/DC style) and plugged my MLF straight it. I hit my first E chord and felt like I died and went to heaven. The tone is so rich and warm!! I can't wait to get home from work so I can spend some time getting it dialed in with my SD-1 in front of it!!!!
I still have one of my two RG100ES XP half stacks, but I don't think it will be getting much use now.
I'm looking into these, they seem really sick. I like SD's, but am more of an EMG fan and I hate Dimebuckers... so if I get either one of the other Razorback V's, I'd have to switch out the old pickups. How are the Licensed Floyds on them? Are they good, or are they the ones that suck? Anyone try any of these yet? Though, I'm sure that they haven't even been shipped yet.
anyone have any pics of the Explosion?
This is my friends band subschock i think there pretty good but they just wanna know what you think.

Hey all I'm searching for my first guitar. I'm thinking right now about getting an Ibanez RG or a Ibanez GSZ120. With Dean maybe one of the Vendettas but I had heard that they sounds horrible. Also my favorite band that uses Dean is Trivium. Maybe I might go for a Razorback. I don't know. I'm still new to buying a guitar. I heard that Ibanez and Shecter are great metal guitars with a lot of sustain. I prefer the RG because it has a wizard neck at the top. Is Dean better than Ibanez and Shecter? If so which guitar do you recomend? My friend suggested a Shecter. I'm looking for something thats about $200 because I have to buy an amp, etc... I also want something with a lot of sustain. I want it to sound god-like and echo while I'm playing "my hatred" by trivium.
Thanks to those who comment
Ok im in a bind,im trying to decide between two guitars, the Dime o flame and the funky munky limited run Blacktooth grin ML...now i really like both guitars, but im wondering if the Blacktooth is really worth the 1200...now i know its a limited run but my main concern is getting what i payed for...so are the Dime o Flame and Blacktooth grin similiar and if so in what ways are they similar and different,im pretty sure a forum member on here has a Blacktooth..how does it play compared to a Dime o Flame in youre opinion?

WOW What a night!!!
long story short.. My band played a metal festival in corpus christi this last weekend. the doorgirl was the typical heavy metal very *friendly* person.... we had some fun, exchanged numbers and that was that...
fast forward.. she called me last night telling me that she is one of Sabbath's groupies and wanted to hang out at the show.. so we did and she got us backstage!
Met everyone except for Iomi.... Dio even had his solo band touring with him too so i got to meet them as well.... he is one short, cool, and deep dude...
got picks from Iomi, Mustaine, and Glen Drover
Another forum member's gear????
If you could pick another forum members gear to use (everything - amps, guitars, etc) whose would it be??
My choices ---
1. Thor. He's got that incredible blue V, a nice US white V, and a Powerball.
2. Spz. Beautiful V's as well. Also has a Powerball and a Bogner cab.
I was tempted to pick MPire and Broken Notes (both have Solteros) but I don't know what amps they have.

DOA Bill Peck and MAB jamming!
Hey guys,
I thought I would let you all know that there is a video of me and MAB jamming at DOA now on YouTube and I think it is pretty cool. Not the best sound quality, but still awesome to see Michael play over the neck!
Thanks to all of the DOA guys for making it happen every year. It is an honor to play with MAB and for Dean fans.

Played a couple of Gibsons today.
by Blazer on Fri May 04, 2007 1:23 am
I was in Amsterdam today and I went to one of the most elaborate musicstores to check out some axes made by the big "G" brand. Since my 2005 Gibson SG is serving me so well I figured that there's no harm done in checking out other Gibsons for a future purchase.
I tried these two.
The SG 3. I always loved the look of a three pickup SG and this warm brown color (the picture doesn't do it justice, it's a really deep shade of brown) made my mouth water and with a price of around 1400 bucks it wasn't that much different from what I paid for my SG Standard. What also wasn't much different from my own SG was the way it played, again I felt that familiar wide and flat neck profile and all the curves were there where I expected them. The guitar sounded really full and creamy and the in-between settings were very un-Gibson sounding although the rotary selector doesn't make for a quick pickup switch.
Then I tried one of these.
The Les Paul BFG in "Ripped Goldtop" finish. The salesman and I were joking that "BFG" could stand for "Billy F Gibbons" to which I promptly launched into "Tush" This guitar blew me away, the raw body and the rough top did nothing to me looks wise ("If i buy this one, I'll sand it smooth and refinish it in a proper Gold top finish." I told the guy) but the feel and sound made up for it. Because of the hollowed out body the guitar is a featherweight and that also translates in a wonderful responsive tone. I loved it's fat neck and even fatter neck pickup, this is one mean snarling P90. The Humbucker was also great, just a light touch of overdrive and your hair is standing up, I tuned it in open G and I was rocking away, what a great blues machine this LP is.
So, if I ever get a GAS attack and I got some cash to buy me something cool, It'll probably be the BFG but I'll modify it so it ends up looking like this.
4x12 Avatar Cabs - 12" vs 14" depth
Hello, I am going to be buying an Avatar 4x12 soon and I recently found out that some people don't like cabs that are 12" in depth.
Avatar has two cabs that I am interested in. The 4x12 Custom and the 4x12 Vintage. The Vintage is 14" in depth and the speakers are slightly slanted up. The 4x12 custom is only 12" in depth and the speakers are not slanted.
It will cost me $67 CAN more to get the vintage over the custom.
Can someone tell me what the differences in sound would be from a 12" depth cab to a 14" depth cab? Will the 14" deep cab have more low end?
Is it worth the $67 and having a cab that doesn't look good with the head?
I don't really like the looks of the vintage one though, but sound matters a lot more then looks obviously. I have a Peavey XXL so I was hoping to get a cab with a metal grill but Avatar doesn't have metal grills anymore

Deep Purple 3/5/07
by Mr T on Fri May 04, 2007 4:16 pm
Went to see Deep Purple last night at NEC Birmingham, and bloody hell they were amazing! Thin Lizzy opened with a sweet set (can't remember it, but The Cowboy Song, Emerald and Don't Believe a Word were in it), then Styx came on. I thought Styx were pretty good, but my Dad thought they were a bit full of themselves. Then Purple came on... Here's the set list
Pictures of Home
Rapture of the Deep
Fireball
Steve Morse solo
The Well Dressed Guitar
When a Blind Man cries
The Battle Rages On
Lazy
Space Truckin
Highway Star
Smoke on the Water
Hush

Overall, it was a gig to remember.

Bought the new Machine Head disc at lunch today. I have to say that I can find something I like about every song on the disc and it's def nice to hear guitar solos again. Don't think alot of these tunes are going to get much airplay though LOL! Most of them are real long songs with 4 of the 8 being over 9 minutes long but whatever I don't listen to the radio anyway. Guitar parts crush with 5150 brutality and the lead tone is sick. Both guitarists are really good players. I'm liking Robb's vocals too, a blend of regular singing and screaming but it's done tastefully and not that cookie monster sh!t. Anyway.......pretty bad@ss CD, check it out if you haven't already.

New Marshall Zakk Mini Stack - review
I purchased the new Marshall Zakk Mini Stack for my living room. I needed to add some more guitar content, as it was the only room in the house without an actual guitar strategically positioned. I must put out the dislaimer that I purchased this amp purely for its cosmetic looks, and is size. I needed something tall and thin, and something that looks good. Sound and playability were secondary.
I like Zakk, but I would not consider myself a huge fan. I did not purchase this limited edition because it a Zakk signature. I got it because the vintage silver grill cloth, and the upgraded cosmetics look stellar. The fit and finish on this amp are top notch. The vintage style gold on white Marshall logos, and the gold piping are excellent. They did an amazing job on the look of this amp for the price. The cosmetic upgrades are well worth the extra $50 over the standard mini stack.
How does it play? Well, it is basically a solid state MG series Marshall practice amp. 15 watts. Standard fare. Due to the stack configuration, however, this amp has a ton more girth and bottom end then any other 15 watt marshall practice amp. It sounds round and full. The FDD switch is a huge improvement over previous models. I would never turn it off. I dont know why it even has a switch. They should just make it on all the time. Must be a marketing thing. If it has a switch you can compare the difference I guess. The clean channel is clear and full. The lead channel is your typical Marshall sound. Good definition. Not too muddy. Sounds like a Marshall MG or AVT amp should.
The amp sounds good. It sounds better than expected. But... this is a 15 watt practice amp. A toy. A neat little novelty. The 15 watts of solid state power dont add up to much. My 18 watt all tube hand wired 2x12 bluesbreaker is at least four times louder than the micro stack. If you are looking for a real practice amp, the microstack is not the practical choice. Get something else. If you want this particular configuration, then go for it. It is what it is.
Am I happy with this purchase? Absolutely! It looks great, sounds good for what it is, and my wife thinks it looks good in the living room. A win - win for everyone!
Yup, i strongly recommend the peavey valveking

My guitars
by Bjoddn on Sat May 05, 2007 8:53 pm
My guitars :
Ok. My first guitar did not have a name and I think it is now destroyed, but I sold it a long time ago to a bandmate of mine. It was a black Strat clone.
My second guitar was an awesome Tokai, Love Rock Goldtop that I sold because I was a label whore and wanted a Gibson Les Paul.
I actually sold it to my brother, but he has not let me see it for years and I think it is because he must have lost it or ruined it but just is afraid to tell me or something. But that guitar was pretty frippin awesome and I would like to get it back someday, since it was my first "real" guitar.
Since then, I have kept what I have bought and this is my pron :
In order of appearance :
Model : Gibson Les Paul Studio
Year : 1991
Comment : My third guitar and my only guitar for 13 years (stopped playing for 9-10)
Model : Dean MLF 79
Year : 2005
Comment : I saw those wings in a shop and for some reason "Vulgar Display of Power" popped up in my head, so I looked it up on the net and bought me this one since I am a Dime fan since I was 12 years old and this was the closest I could get. (I think he was killed with an upgraded black, 79 MLF)
After that guitar, it was GAS GAS GAS for me.
Model : Fender Stratocaster MIM
Year : I don't know
Comment : The freatboard should be a lot lighter (maple) since I bought this one as a Jimi fan and although I think I have seen pictures of him with a rosewood board, I would have preferred this guitar to have resembled Woodstock.
Model : Jay Turser ES335
Year : I don't know
Comment : Got this one for 50$ or something like that. It actually feels nice to play but the feedback is horrendous if an amp is set over 2.
Model : Gibson SG Standard.
Year : 2005
Comment : This one is bought because I am an Angus fan and also because this is the guitar a friend of mine and a bandmate bought when I got my Gibson some 13 years ago. I always thought his guitar looked cooler then mine, so as I got older and got the GAS, I just frippin bought it to get it out of my system.
Damn childhood complexes
Model : Dean DFH/CFH
Year : 2006
Comment : As a Dime fan, there was no question that I would get this guitar just for the looks. It was the album "Cowboys From Hell" that introduced my to rock music and I have always wanted this guitar. It is not the original and it is not the USA one, but it is enough for a cheap bastard like me.
This is the best playing guitar I have and it is not just in my head, the neck fits me, the shape fits me and it just all around rocks.
Model : BCRich Mockingbird, Nagoya
Year : 1982 (or 1983)
Comment : I don't know what it is, but the mockingbird shape is the best looking guitar shape ever in my opinion. I usually like to buy stuff that has some history with me, but the mock does not, so it is simply bought for it's looks.
But I still wanted a "good" guitar, so it took me about a year to finally land on this one on ebay.
And there you have the history of Bjoddn's guitars.
The End.

In the market for a Mesa - Pron added
by Rampage on Sun May 06, 2007 2:38 am
Hey guys, I had some questions and was hoping some of you could help me with them. Well, I have decided to change amps from my 5150 to a Mesa because my friend recently picked up a Dual Rectifier Solo head and I fell in love with the tone. Well, here are my questions:
1) Which Rectifier would you recommend? I am currently looking at the older two channel Duals, the modern three channel Duals, and the three channel Triples. I have heard that the two channel Dual is significantly better than the modern one, and if that is the case I would more than likely go for one. I also am looking at the Triple just to keep all of my options open. I have tried each of them and like them all, I would just like to hear anyone's praises or qualms with any model.
2) What cab would you recommend with it? I am definitely thinking about a standard Rectifier 4x12 because I have heard that it is built to accenuate the natural mid-scooped voicing of the head. The only thing is that I have heard some people like the tighter Stiletto over the Recto cab.
3) What brand tubes/What type of tubes. This is the one that I am really interested in. I understand that you can use EL-34's or 6l6's and I really like the sound of the 6l6's, just not sure if the EL-34's have richer harmonics or anything. Like I have said before, I use a 5150 currently and that has 6l6's which I do like, but I have no experience with the EL-34's. I was also wondering which brands would be recommended as I have heard the stock Mesa's may not always sound the best.
Thanks in advance for any answers .

First Rebel Razorback Lefty Being Built
by Redog75 on Sun May 06, 2007 4:22 pm
Hey folks!
I thought I'd share some news geared towards all of us lefty players. Thanks to our friends at Funky Munky, Dean is building me the first Rebel Razorback left-handed version. I guess it's a case of 'ask and you shall receive.'
I asked, they called, and yes, it's being made. From what I've read, a few people have had the news that a custom Razorback could be made left-handed. From what I was told by Funky Munky (please keep in mind this is information I got from them and not Dean directly), Dean knew this was coming and is preparing the templates for a production version. I have no idea if this means a full run or a limited run. If I had to guess, it'd be a USA series. That's all speculation. What I can say is that the Rebel Razorback being built for me will be the prototype.
The order went in about two weeks ago and it's expected to be done within 6 months. It's a long time to wait, but if anyone's gotten a custom built guitar before y'all know that's fairly normal.
I have to say, I'm ecstatic. I've wanted a lefty version since the Razorback line was launched. After many inquiries to several dealers I got the answer I'd been waiting on. A huge thanks to Funky Munky for going the extra mile. Now I just have to wait....patiently (if that's possible)

The UPS dude came flying down our street, you know how they run, hurry, hurry hurry not paying a whole lot of attention where he was going swerved to miss a new Dodge pickup and creamed the side of our neighbors new car . Long story, short we're pretty sure this is one of those guys that "use to " work for them. It totalled the "Intrepid", so their insurance just delivered his wifes new convertible . The only good thing about this, is they paid for the new car and he had just put his corvette in the garage like 30 minutes before the driver took it upon himself to "modify" his wifes new car.

AM Radio through my amp
by Cenobite on Sun May 06, 2007 10:35 pm
This problem has finally pissed me off enough to try and get rid of it.
I moved house back in December and now when I turn my amp on I can hear AM radio through it. Always horse racing. I didn't move far and there are no transmission towers near by, so I have no idea why it's happening, just that it is happening.
It's not loud and can only be heard when I'm not playing. I turn everything down on the guitar and it can still be heard, so it's obviously the amp (Randall Warhead by the way)
Anyone had the same problem and solved it?
I'm looking into my first 5 string bass, and I was wondering what everyone would reccomend. First of all, I'm looking between the prices of $600 to $1500. Preferably, neck thru, and anything but dot inlays.
Right now, I'm looking at Schecters and Spectors.
Anyone have any reccomendations?

Been trying to play Snow by the RHCP. And man, do I feel the burn. Trying to play the main riff to speed is fun but painful on it's own.
Anyone else went to join me in the pain?
Oopsy, almost forgot.
What're you guys' thoughts on these dudes? Music? Eh? Cmon.
Does anyone have any experience with Behringer amps? I'm somewhat interested in them.
New Updated 2007-2008 Dean Catalog (pics)
Just noticed this news entry on the low bandwidth page of deanguitars.com. maybe ive been living under a rock but theres a lot in this catalog ive not heard about.
Some notable pages that caught my eye....
Dave Mustaine "Gears of War" V?
The Mustaine models have a D shaped neck?
Jeff Berlin Sig Bass?
BLACK V Coustic?
Looks like the Mach was killed as well.
looks like Paulowina bodies are also making an entry. ill have to look up facts about that wood ive never heard of it.
Discuss...
p.s.
you can download the catalog Here

I like the tone of the Marshall MG amps. Not many people like them much, but I do. Who else does?

ive been wanting to try one of these for a long time, so far i like it and it sounds pretty good.
i still need to spend some more time with it but i had 2 really good tones last night. it has more gain than i thought it would.
i had a zakk 2203 and this has more gain than that did.
i wanted a lower gain amp for some rock stuff and it seems to do it pretty well.

Quality of Black Gold series?
by JohnC on Mon May 07, 2007 9:22 pm
Im looking at the black gold Z as my next guitar, but no one within a 2 hour radius of me has one. I need some info on it please. What series of ESP could it be compared to as far as quality (500, 1000...etc. Im used to ESP's.) Also, how is the neck on it compared to an EC1000?
Hopefully this isnt considered dean Blasphemy for mentioning ESP, but thats what im used to, so help me out here.
Thanks a lot

Well everyone. It was a pretty crazy weekend here in the land of OZ. We had over 100 tornados' touch down, at least one of them was an EF5 ranging from 3/4 of a mile to 1.5 miles wide. we had one entire town wiped off the map, over 11 inches of rain in some parts of the state, baseball sized hail, unfortunately 12 to 15 storm or tornado related deaths, 70 to 100 wounded. 2 to 4 of those tornados touched down within 5 miles of me, talk about being a tense moment there on a personal level . But were still here.
edit for update: i stand corrected. the EF5 tornado that hit Greensburg was 1.5 to 2 miles wide.
hey yall,
im gonna be in phoenix in late june and i wanted to hit up some guitar places, so does anybody from around there know of any good guitar places in that general area, i realize not alot of places carry many leftys, but i still want to check out some new places, any ideas anyone?

Noob's Pron
by Ant_101 on Tue May 08, 2007 5:39 pm
hi, still a noob, and thought i't put up some pron (unfortunately only my guitars)
First of all , the guitar that brought me here, my Black Gold ML, got from the Peter Cooks stand at the London guitar show last weekend, plays great and a real winner in the posing stakes
Next up, my Ibanez EDR470EX, the workhorse of my collection for the last couple of bands, tuned to B for extra lows and stickered to hell out of sheer boredom
And now My ESP LTD H207, used mainly for writing and a a live backup, not really a remarkable axe , but still pretty nice and still going strong after about 8 years (i think)
Last but not least, the classy old dame of the harem, my Les Paul custom, it was a birthday present from my family when i hit 18 (sooo long ago) only ever used for recording as i'd be absolutely gutted if anything happened to her during a gig
so yeah, that's my family (minus the cheap acoustic and terrible strat copy), more deans will be bought though, oh yes

I want one of the Zakk Wylde ones for putting in my friends jam room. I need a light amp (around 70 lbs), but first I want your guys advice on a better alternative or should i get it.
Avatar Vs. Marshall Vs. Mesa
Which Cab do you guys prefer, I know it would be best to try one out myself there there isnt mesa dealer around here. Ive played a Bogner with v30's and it was amazing but it was to expensive. Pretty much its between these 3 with Vintage 30's in them.
I have an idea for any dealer out there to make a limited run of...a razorback Z.....i have a little idea of what it would look like and it would be sweet!!!!!!!!! any one think a Razor Z would be hardcore

i seen one for sale in the trading section and i remember hearing stuff about it before but i couldnt find it. can anyone help me out and tell me what kinda stuff this wah would be good for?
how do i plug my guitar into computer to use virual amps settings etc thx in advance...

by pUNz on Wed May 09, 2007 4:04 pm
got the razorback V i ordered yesterday. figures it would end up one of the busier days at work, didnt get to play it much.
i did fire it up through a number of amps tho; framus cobra, krank rev1, few riverra's to name a few and each one had me giggeling like a school girl.
but im not sure that had anything to do with the sound, heh. this guitar fills a 17year 'want' for me. its the king V i always wanted, only.... MO'METALS.
pics to follow, someday when i get off the lazy arse to post it.
emg's go in it tonight or tomorrow. one vol, selector switch, boost switch. cant wait =D
PM question
by Kragax on Wed May 09, 2007 6:47 pm
If you mailbox is full and someone sends you a PM does it show up when you delete your old messages? or is it gone forever?
My inbox got away from me when I wasn't lookin'
That's Drumkit From Hell 2
Everytime I go to use it on a midi drum track I get a message saying:
"The outputs configured in the loaded Multi differ from the current output configuration!"
So when I use it over a midi track, all the drums are wrong; snare instead of a cymbal, tom instead of hi-hat etc.
How can I fix thisss?

What's this ... ?
by Psych on Thu May 10, 2007 12:18 am
So, I came home to see a big ass box on the floor .. as I approached the alien object. I considered, might this be .. ? Yea! The RG100ES XP Slaytanic sent me!
Brought it downstairs in the basement so my grandma wouldnt get pissed anyway ..
The beast, wrapped in it's packaging.
I noticed there was a place in the box where Slay added a peice of cardboard and tapped it to hell. I took out my weapon of destruction and slayed away at the tape. I think the box was too short for the amp, was it? Hmm. Weird.
One chunk off!
Here it comes!!!!
Oh hey what's this? Might this be the thing that you use to switch channels with??!? (Yea It'll be my first stack, when I get a cab for this monster )
Woo! Here's a full frontal.
Thanks again mate! I'll need to get someone to drive me to the local shop with this and try see if everythings okay. Cause, as I was unpacking it. It bumped on the floor a bit and I heard this weird shaking noise. Probably normal for the amp but, to me it's a first.
And did I mention this thing is waaaaaaaay bigger and heavier then I imagined? I love it!
Best neck position pick-up I've ever heard for metal
Just put new pickups in my 1979 ML USA... A D-sonic in the bridge and an Air Norton in the neck. I've had the D-sonic before, so no surprise there. The Norton in the neck was nothing short of a revelation. Not muddy or too bassy, just perfect. I can actually use a neck pick-up now. Totally happy with this one, I'm going to change over all my guitars eventually. BTW, I put all new gold pick up rings, all new gold screws, Tone Pros bridge, and Schaller gold tuners. My old 79 is ready for the stage. I think she appreciated all the new hardware!!!

grr guitars like this really piss me off: http://cgi.ebay.com/WASHBURN-USA-CUSTOM-SCOTT-IAN-SI76-MURDER-WEAPON-GUITAR_W0QQitemZ180114310271QQihZ008QQcategoryZ33048QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
as u can see the guitar is painted by scott ian ... and a four year old could do a better job. though the guitar is a custom theve clearly jibbed the price up by getting it painted by scott ian... i could get more of a bargain buying the guitar normally flying over to the us staying a few nights in a luxury hotel tracking down scott ian and getting him to finger paint my guitar for me. Im an anthrax fan but im not f*8king stupid! The 6 string masterpieces are all for a good cause,at the moment they are selling on ebay to go to a charity and not only that but they represent dime as guitarist and person he was. This guitar is nothing like that its just done by a company to get money and that kinda pisses me off
European Forum Members, I need a favour
Just wondering if someone can vouch for a website/online store for me.
They have a few stores, and all seem to come under 'a Division of PiP's Music', the one I'm primarily interested in being www.boxymusic.com. A friend from the Netherlands said he 'came across this really cheap website' called www.guitarbargains.com, and through some surfing about, I came across Boxy Music, which is the exact same store. Now, they have a LOT of online stores (fendershop.com, gibsonshop.com, keyboardshop.com, synthplanet.com to name a few), but it all seems kinda fishy to me.
Everything is ridiculously cheap, even undercutting Thomann by a helluva lot, but something just doesn't seem right. I think it's the fact that you can't browse products, you can only use the site by searching...
They're located in Belgium. With the products I wanna buy, and with shipping charges included, they come £120 cheaper than Thomann, and a good £420 cheaper than my local music shops, so it's well worth me tryin to use this shop

Now, I'm by no means new to this album, but I found myself in the correct tuning today and decided to give some of this s#%t a go. I've been a fan of this band for a long time, and it's one of those things for me where it never occured to me to actually LEARN some of their stuff. I'm the same with Pantera... I guess this kinda agro music don't always make me reach for a guitar. Man... I do need to start doin that more often!
So, challenging thrash metal from Sweden, circa 1998.
The Haunted -- The Haunted.
The whole album. The real deal. I learnt 'In Vein' this morning and it made me realise how much I gotta work on my chops! Now I'm at work, and won't be home for another 7 hours... but I'm gonna get right in there and learn some more stuff when I can
So if you haven't got it yet, or haven't thought of learning some of their stuff... DO IT. BUY IT AND LEARN IT. Most fun I've had on an axe for a long time... Just what I needed.
And these badass sumbitches will teach you a thing or two... EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU

Hello, I am getting an Avatar cab soon. I have a Peavey XXL and that has a switch to select 4, 8, or 16 ohm.
I am thinking ahead for if I ever get a new amp.
I am wanting to get a 412 with 2 Hellatone 60L's and 2 G12T100's and that is only avalible in 4ohm or 16ohm.
Should I get it in 4ohm or 16ohm? Or should I get Hellatone 60's so I can get it in 8ohm?
I know one amp I am interested in is the Engl Fireball and I do believe that is only 8ohm or 16ohm. The vht amps I was looking at all seem to be switchable from 4, 8, and 16. Mesa amps are also an interest for me, but I am not sure what ohm there amps usually use.
Some advise please
by BLACK213 on Fri May 11, 2007 11:47 pm
I actually have a little spending money $100.00 and was wondering what you all might think would be my smartest move.
Getting new pickups (well a bridge one) or a new amp. I play the MLNXT thru a crateGTD15 with a toneworks ax3g, I was thinking about the roland x15 for a amp or a EMG which ever one works best in bridge position. i only play in my room and thats all I ever will.
Any input would be helpful

New Dream Theater song on myspace if anyones interested
by Mattrax on Sat May 12, 2007 9:37 am
Hey. I'm not sure when it got put up, but there is a song on their myspace from their new album coming out soon. have a listen if you haven't already!
Bought a Bogner Uberschall
I just saw a shop here locally had one on sale, and they gave me a very good price for my Mesa Mark IV, so off I am.
I tested it for about 15 minutes, it sounded really cool. It's nowhere near as tight as my ENGL SE, but it's not as loose as some say it is. It should tighten up with a boost or the right pickups, I'd say it's about as tight as a recitifier.
The main thing that struck me was that it sounds really saturated which is a rarity for a boutique amp. Most of them sound dry and stuff (some refer to that as "tone"). Anyway I love "wet" sounding amps and this definately could come up with a killer saturated lead sound.
The clean channel although of no big concern to me was also much nicer than most people give it credit for, I'd put it about on par with the ENGL SE. The only thing is it's a really one dimensional amp, not that I care since I only use it to shred but some might actually care about that.
I am anxious to see how much I like it after the honeymoon is over, I have been through so many amps I am not declaring any amp the be all end all very soon anymore. I do like the Uber for shure, I get it next week, since it had to be retubed as one of the Power tubes was shattered.
To me the Uber sounds like an Uberdimensional cross between a 5150 with a Marshall JCM 800 poweramp with some rectifier low end. can't wait to play it a little more extensive.
Another Guitar?!?!?! Dean Vendetta 3.0
While looking for a hard case for my Dean Icon I saw this listed. It was too cheap to pass up and I got a case I can use for my Icon!
This is a Dean Vendetta 3.0 "Flip Pearl" finish.
Anyhow...I got yet another toy and the case I was looking for and it only cost me about $50 more than a case alone! I ain't skeerd of a pink geetar!
Cool vid from teh ENFORCER show last night
So finally after 2,5 years a gig again, almost fully revised line up, but also a killer gig if you considder this to be a fresh start. Sadly a pretty poor crowd turnout with about 50 people, but hey we're no superstars so we're happy!

2. Killer On The Loose
3. Stage Dive (Whiplash cover)
4. Beer Belly
5. Death From Above
6. Into The Ovens Of Hell
7. A Lesson In Violence (Exodus cover)

How long to get a guitar from the states to canada?

I ordered bought a new guitar yesterday and it's coming via UPS to Ontario. Do you think it'll be here by the 25th May? Thats when I get home.

So I was talking to my girlfriend about guitar tonight and we noticed something.
Italians seem to have a huge stranglehold on "virtuoso" class electric guitarists.

Thats just off the top of my head. Thats a HUGE chunk of the "electric guitar virtuoso's of the 21st century"
I'm just wondering why that is. Does eating too much pasta young help you learn to write fast riffs? (tongue and cheek there )
Seriously worth discussing though. Who else am I leaving out?? I'm sure im forgetting a few more italian guitar guys.
Melodic death metal tone
by colin.p on Sun May 13, 2007 6:28 am
My band is changing to more melodic death metal. So I was wondering how to get a Amon Amarth type tone. Because its not very distorted and minimal effects.
I know that nobody cares, but i'll go ahead creating this stupid thread anyways...
A week ago, we were practicing our band stuff and goofing around in the gym beside the church we practice at. The next day I learned that someone had messed with the P.A. stuff and other sound equiptment in the gym, so now we can't practice in the gym anymore. We have no room to play anywhere else so we have to find somewhere else.
Another thing:
Our band is in a rut right now. We are without a name and we are trying to figure out the types of music we want to stick with. Me, I like everything...prog-rock, funk rock, blues rock, psychadelic rock, southern rock, jazz, classic metal, thrash metal, death metal, black metal...so it's fairly apparent that I do not care what we play. The drummer is a funk rock, ska-rock kind of guy. The bassist likes classic rock type stuff, like Aerosmith, Queen, Guns N' Roses, etc. The other guitarist likes thrash metal and the likes. We just can't figure out the style of music we want to play. Me and the other guitarist have vast playing differences, as well. I play more of a classic rock style, whereas he plays more of a heavy metal style. This confuses me, too. The summer is almost here and we're trying to find a place to practice (we eventually will) and we just want to know what type of thing we're going to do with the band. We have one song already which is a blues rock type thing somewhat reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix and I really wouldn't mind staying on that path, but the drummer isn't too fond of it. The drummer likes the Red Hot Chili Peppers a lot. Me and the bassist love them too and also wouldn't mind playing in that style, but the other guitarist doesn't really like them much at all. So, basically what i'm trying to say is this...we're trying to meld all of these vast influences into the stuff we're doing without sounding like Mr. Bungle. Any help?
ok i think its half step down D# G# C# F# A# D#, but what songs use this tuning?
this is just kinda a random, im bored so i wanna learn sumthing new type of question
ALSO, when i was tuning my guitar to that tuning instead of low D# it was like E flat, that is the same thing right?
Dimes Gift to scott ian...

Best Place for Metal
by colin.p on Mon May 14, 2007 2:42 am
I think Scandinavia has the biggest metal fan base. America is extremely weak. Most the guys at my school listen to alt rock like Fall Out Boy. Japan seems to be receptive to anything rocking.
Where to find inspiration...
To come up with some cool riffs. I'm currently lacking the motivation to come up with some neato!!!1 riffs. Where can I find some inspiration?
Not metal riffs, mind you, but maybe some funky stuff or some psychadelic type stuff.

fav Dean Employees?
by * on Mon May 14, 2007 11:06 pm
i was just wondering if anyone would like to share any good stories or praises about dean employees (such as pete, deb, dean, etc) who have help you out.
for instance, i really like deb, she's the only one to have always read and responded to my emails. as a matter of fact if it weren't for deb i wouldn't even own a dean. i was going to buy a b.c. rich but i shot her an email asking about a left handed ml with the specs i wanted and she informed me (MONTHS before anyone else) about the FBD. so, i saved my cash and got my dean. not to mention all the street team help. deb rocks!
fastest alternate picking?
ok this is not about who is better. i was just watching some MAB and then ended up listening to an old yngwie mp3 i have of him playing flight of the bumblebee live.
for the life of me i cant figure out who is faster at alt picking. MAB or yngwie.
not that it matters, but im wondering what you guys think lol.
Just want to give a shout out for Deans customer service. I had a problem with the frets on my slime. The original deal was to have a local guitar shop work on it, but they gave me this crap that the neck was S shaped and it needed to be steamed and pressed and bla bla bla. I called "Brad" (upon Tims' aka harley) request and he made the decision to have it sent back to Dean in Tampa for the fretwork instead of that.
After many encounters with customer service from other companies I figured I might get yanked around. That was not the case at all. He seemed more than willing to help out and thats where sending it to Tampa came in. After about a week of it being delivered to Tampa I decided to call him and check the status. By what I understand from the talking to him, his repair tech had a line of guitars waiting for repair. After hanging up he called back a bit later and said that he had moved my slime up to the front to be next in line after the one that was on the operating table was done. I didnt even give a sob story either. That is badass if you ask me.
Just got another call from Brad today, the wife talked to him and said it is on the table now. He said that every one walks by that guitar in that department there is in "Awe", really imressed on the looks. He said he had no idea that there was "Dean" Dimeslime limited run and thought only Washburn did them. On another note about the neck, they didnt see anything wrong with it at Dean. I didnt either before I sent it off.
Anyways, the moral of the story is, Im being treated with the utmost respect anyone could hope for. I never thought I would get bumped up in line. So I guess if anyone at Dean see this, this is a huge thumbs up to Dean guitars. This is the kind of thing that will put them on the map and keep them there. Not that they arent already.
Anyways, Ill give another review of the repair work once it comes back and "pray" that nothing happenes to it with shipment aka guitar smashers.
i just saw the Dimevision trailer , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yKsu4s2IC8 , some amazing stuff on there ive never heard him play b4. anyone know to what song or where i could get a tab of the first solo(young) , second solo (also young) and last one ( dime o flame) ? thanx.

I was finally able to have my new pick ups installed in my Dean Z noir. i put an X2N in the bridge and a humbucker from hell in the neck. The X2n has a awesomely tight tone. It kicks ass. The humbucker from hell has great clean tones.
Well worth the wait I had to go through to get them in.
Unfortunately right now I dont have a way to record anything
immmmmpressive power amp!!

kfk emg set, replaced the tone pot with the 20db boost switch and its way better than i imagined. its like having a OD pedal built into the guitar. the small fender tube amps at work dread every time i pull this suker out at work, it seriously sounds like its trying to kill them poor valves hehehehe. everyone i show at work gets wood as hard as mine too. its a awesome add in and will prolly put them in all my guitars now.
wife says if i bring home another guitar, shes gonna leave me.... damn, i'll miss her =P
beh,.......now who's ripping off who HAHA! Times have changed, first Dean improces original Gibson designs and now Gibson is copying Dean designs.

MAB Signature
by Steve S on Tue May 15, 2007 10:25 pm
Well I was just wondering if there’s any new information on the MAB signature. I can't really find anything on the internet other then the pic Dean has, so if anyone knows anything else about the guitar I would really like to know.
before anyone flames me for a Trivium thread you'll begin to relize this is nothing good. i for one like Trivium and im not one to judge what people listen to but did Matt say, "I like alot of Justin Limberlake", in this video. Matt's cool and hes a good guitarest as is Cory. but id never guess that this is how Matt is.

Dean Vendetta 3.0 Pearl PICS !!!
The guitar came in and I promised I would post some pictures. The pearl paint is a trip and it is difficult to capture with a camera. It goes from red to pink to purple depending on the light.
It plays very nicely after I set it up and the set neck is slick. The stock pick ups are ok but I see an upgrade down the road there.

Okay guys here's the situation: I have a 79 MLF and a few months ago while changing the knobs I broke my tone pot. Recently I've revamped the guitar and now have a new tone pot in there, but I have no idea how to wire it and google has not been my friend! I've got the gray wire coming from the input jack and the red wire comin' from the toggle switch. How am I supposed to solder these to the tone pot?
Best sounding Metal distortion pedal

I could swear that I saw a print shop photo or similar of a black razorback v made of redwood. I have been looking throughout the forums but I can't find it again. Has anyone seen this and let me know where to find it? Is this guitar possible to custom order? I really want a USA Dean and can't figure if I should just get one stock or do a custom order. This redwood would be tight. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Quality...
by Jvision on Wed May 16, 2007 2:20 pm
Ok this is not meant to be a war starting thread but rather a thread of discussion. I was speaking with a rep from a music store company that will remain nameless that is located in FL actually not to far from DEAN. This particular rep said he knows some people from Dean and got on the topic of guitars and quality. He claimed that Deans attention to detail and quality is not nearly as good as ESP as he claims he has witness from 1st hand knowledge, hence saying he knows some of the people. He basically said any guitar from dean that is under $1000 is crap compared to any guitar under $1000 from ESP. That you get more for your money with an ESP. And that even the USA guitars wood is not cut at dean HQ but over in Japan and then sent over to USA to be painted in the Dean shop. What are your opinions in your experience about this? Especially for the Vets that have played and have done business with dean.

Also could someone explain to me what this whole V neck business is I don't really have a clear picture of what’s going on.

converting a stop tailpeice bridge combo to a string through
i was wondering if anyone has done this before and how well it turned out. i have an old warlock thats pretty cheap and i've been toying with the idea of refinishing it for a while and thought converting it to a string through would look cool and give it a touch more sustain. i know that to go string though i would probablly have to sand it down and re-paint, i think i might put on a thin veneer just to give it a nicer look, i'm thinking a spalted veneer. anyways back to the tailpeice - string through, would i have to buy another bridge or could i just not wrap the strings around and extend them through the string ferrules i would be adding? i dont know if the tension from the strings just going across the top would be enough to hold this specific bridge in place. thanks in advance for all yout advice and suggestions.
Its pretty simple. We all get shitt face drunk and eat nothing but tacos and white castles. Then we wake up with raging hangovers, put on some basketball clothes, and go to the courts. The object is to shart while in mid air for a layup, 3 pointer, or a block. Whichever team has the most points plus sharts at the end of the game wins. I call Randy on my team!
New...BYOC 10 Band EQ

For those of you out there that like pedal EQ's I just noticed that on the Build Your Own Clone website that they now have a 10 band graphic EQ kit. I've built a couple of their pedals and they sound pretty killer. The cool thing about this pedal is it is true bypass. Although the newer MXR EQ's are good (I have one right now) they still suck some of your tone. Anyway.....you can buy it in kit form for $99.00 or have them build it for you for $149.00. Here's the linky........

Darko V - thread http://www.deanguitars.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=33865&start=120
Hey,
I thought i would kinda write a quick post about the whole custom thing, as i know a bit more about it now, and perhaps by shedding light on the process, more people might be tempted to go for a really awesome guitar.
Anyway, i'd wanted a RB since i first saw them - they seemed so sleek, smooth and just plain cool. I love my ML, and the only way was up in my opinion, so i thought about getting one. Cue problem one: no lefties...
Anyway, so after like a year of thinking about it, and dithering about, i finally settled on it, and got in touch with the UK distributor, Bill Lewington.
Now, not to rip on the UK guys too much, but seriosuly, i found them pretty useless. I had to email about 14 times to get a reply (like 3 weeks later aswell...) and i basically had to then get in touch with a smaller seller to get info on ordering. After sending emails, it became apparent he wasnt really listening to what i wanted (this guy sent me the price list rather than a quote...as if i hadnt already read it, and he said it was possible to do things that Dean Z himself later said were NOT possible), so i came to these forums for advice.
Pretty quickly, i got advice to try Steve at BRG, or basically any US dealer, and man, they are awesome...I dont want to plug too much, but Steve is patient, helpful and really listened to what i wanted, to the point that he's had to send rather a few emails to Dean just to see if things are possible (it started as a black RB, then changed to a camo, then to a custom paintjob...lotsa work...).
So, it turns out that with a decent dealer, its actually a fairly easy process. I just described what i wanted, and thanks to marc for making me a 3D mock up of the paint job i wanted - a cool urban camo job based on the original camo RB. So, at present, everything is all ready to just put down the deposit and work can begin.
So, i am finishing my exams and then aiming to order it officially at the start of june...build time of 6 - 8 months....
Anyway, one last thing: price - i know that most people would be put off ordering such a high price guitar - hell, its still a scary thought for me. All i would say though, is that with a good US dealer, you are possibly (likely?) able to get a saving from the list price, and if you break it down, its actually more do-able.
All i can say is that from owning one custom shop ML, i would always, always aim high. They are built sooooo well, and with such great instruments, it truly is a pleasure to play (leading to its own rewards as you improve).
I'd always recommend someone to aim high, and get one fine quality instrument rather than several "mid range" guitars.
Anyway, i think ill keep updating this thread as the process unfolds, hopefully some people would find it interesting/useful (i was certainly not clued in to how it works myself).

Wylde's old Shatter Glass LP -- good pics, anyone?
by Redog75 on Fri May 18, 2007 1:20 pm
Hey y'all...
I'd like to give my old LP a make-over -- call it a summer project, if you will. Does anyone have a good pic of Zakk Wylde's old shattered glass Les Paul? I have a few, but the quality is really bad. Even taking a vid cap from the Miracle Man video is icky. Sadly, all of my old Guitar mags are stuck in the closet of no return (giant home entertainment unit in front of the door *LOL*).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

So what do you think it would take, to take the base lefty guitars, the ML, MLF (FBD), etc, and just make them available with different finishes? even something as simple as BLACK (and dont count the MLX, we need higher grade!).. what more is there to do?
Do they HAVE to be custom ordered? Or for Dean, is it something simple to introduce in the near future? If the guitar is already being built, what more is it to change its color??

And girls for that matter :p
Does anyone remember me making some sort of complaint about the leftys and their unluckiness of the finishes and guitars? (Don't take that offensively)
But I am very happy to see that you can all discuss and all that stuff to come, hopefully Dean Z will take a look at this section once in a while.
I personally think it's about time you guys had this done.
Thankyou.

UK dudes - anyone used this site before?
by muckers on Sun May 20, 2007 3:44 pm
After checking out the Roalnd Micro Cube, I'm really wanting to get one for myself.
The best deal I can find is obviously online and is from a website called StringsDirect.co.uk
Now, I've never used them before so don't know how good they are. Has anyone here heard of them or used them before?
T'is a good deal they have - £70 for the amp, posted with next day delivery, so nice 'n' speedy.
All the other online shops I've come across sell it for at least £70 plus the postage costs.
info for floyd rose bridges originals
can anyone direct me to a site that sells Floyd Rose original bridges? In the UK..
Thanks
I've been looking for a 335 knock off for quite awhile and spotted these. Anyone ever try one? Just curious, Dean doesn't make a full sized one, I wished they did but............I do like the f-hole and tailpiece on these.

Scalloped fretboard
by Steve S on Sun May 20, 2007 8:59 pm
Sorry if this is the wrong forum but I thought this would be the best place to get some good responses. Okay so what is a scalloped fretboard, what does it do, is it hard to play, what does it feel like, why would you want one?. I'm just curious because I never heard of it until the other day and I was just wondering what its all about. So as much information as you could tell me about it would be great. [/i]

I know some of you folks generally don't step foot in the Dime Tribute section for various reasons.
However, it might be worth your while to do so now.
I'm doing a series of posts covering the Rockwalk Induction, The Six String Masterpieces Auction, and the DimeSplash Concert event. Might be worth a gander even for non Dime fans.

Dean TC MLF vs. USA Jackson?
by emunder on Tue May 22, 2007 4:00 pm
I know you can chime in here Randy cuz you've owned both the USA Jacksons and Deans. I'm thinking I want to start saving up for a USA made guitar and I played a Jackson V last weekend and it was unreal. Just curious of how the two brands compare? Never played a TC series before so I have no idea what they're like. I'm interested in either a Jackson V, Rhoads or a Dean TC MLF. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

ok guys, i gotta admit im totally ignorant when it comes to this stuff.
i understand that piezo/electric combo solid bodies you can basically have an electric and an acoustic at once.
but thats literally all i know.
and the only 2 guitars like this i know about are the parker fly and the ebmm petrucci.
so enlighten me. and please, link clips =)
whats the reasonable price for a randall halfstack?
Im thinking about selling my RH200 halfstack. so what would be a good price to sell it for? the tones not really for me and im thinking about downsizing for now.
Things are getting outta control...
Remember the day when you could get a cool a$$ import Dean for less than $800? All of the new ones that are different are freakin' $2000.
The MAB axe is almost $2000
The Rusty Cooley axe is almost $2000
The 7 string Razorback is almost $2000
WTF?!?!?!?
I think someone is getting too big for their britches.
It's tempting me to jump ship.
Signed,

I was just checkin out ebay,Warbird ML with case and shipping $750,seems like a good deal,I really like the finish on this guitar and really like that it dont have that big DIME on the headstock.

Hey guys
Well this is my current rig. I've been away from here for a bit, not that much here for me! but this is my reason for living!
This is an insane rig, I thought my rack rig was the rig of death! well this is the Grim Reaper itself! running both heads and 2 cabs is more than a mere mortal can take! I've run both heads now with a 2x12 and a 4x12 each, and let me just say, I needed new undies! and pants!
Man oh man! This Dean really Sings! I can't wait for a flat black razorback with emg's!
Anyhow guys, this is just the beginning of this rig, will soon have a rack case for it all and the rack gear!

the family (update bottom page 2)
we'll i've been posting here for a few month's now and i have yet to put up and pictures of my guitars, due to the lack of a digital camera being handy or having my guitars all together in the same place since i was away at school in res and the room was hella tiny. but my i'm home now and got me a free digital camera so without further adieu, my growing guitar collection.
my 79mlf, it's just over a year old now, my only dean to date but i love it.
bad time of day + cheap camera = not great pictures of the flamed top
showed up a bit better once i brought it back inside though
This is the guitar i've been working on whenever i can find the time since around christmas, while i was in school though very little work got done since i left it at home rather then hauling it back and forth without a case.
it's a neckthrough incase it's hard to tell via the picture, i will post more pictures if anyones interested as it progresses the rest of the way towards completion
this warlock was black up until about a week ago when i decided it would look cool with a spalted maple top and stripped it of its body hardware and started sanding, thats how it looks still, need to get a job before i go hunt down a nice spalted veneer. i'll post up some after images oncew it gets finished for those who are interested
This is my art and lutherie canadian made 12 string, she sounds real nice, not the greatest player but since i play electric 85% of the time it fits my acoustic needs perfectly
couple family shots seem to be in order
this one gives a good idea of the size of the custom build and shows why i have dubbed it goliath
why make it so big? i dont know, it just kinda happened that way, i love it though, it's gonna be a bitch to find a case for though. well those are my guitars, deffinetely not as nice as a lot of people's on here but hey it's a start, hopefully if all goes well a blacked out caddy select will join the family soon.
I'm on my way to getting a new amp, something for a killer metal tone, but something more affordable compared to one of those spiffy Mesa's or something.
I can always find a 5150 on eBay, or if i'm lucky one randomly shows up at guitar center. Right now they have a XXX for $999. Monday is the Memorial Day sale, and depending how much it gets marked down, I may just go ahead and get it. But i wanted to see what peoples opinions are comparing the XXX and the 5150..
OK. SOME DUDE FILMED THIS ON HIS CELL PHONE AT ONE OF OUR CRAPPY GIGS. THE SOUND IS EXTREMELY HORRIBLE DUE TO LOUD P.A BUT THE VIDEO IS ACTUALLY NOT TOO BAD. SOMEONE SENT THIS TO US TODAY ITS ABOUT A MONTH OLD OR SO. STARTS AT ABOUT THE 6TH SONG AND GOES TO ABOUT 9TH SONG I THINK. AT THE END IT SHOWS SOME DOOD'S FOREHEAD BLEEDING. I SMASHED HIM IN THE HEAD WITH MY GUITAR BY ACCIDENT. I HAD REAL BLOOD ON MY GUITAR FOR DAYS. UNTIL I FIGURED THE AIDS DIED THEN I CLEANED IT OFF. HE TRIPPED OVER A MONITOR AND FELL FOREWARD AT SAME TIME I WAS TURNING AROUND AND A TUNING PEG POST EMBEDED IN HIS FOREHEAD. OOPS. SO METAL THOUGH. HE THOUGHT IT WAS KEWL AND TOOK PICTURES BETWEEN SONGS WHICH UNFORTUNATELY DIDNT MAKE IT ON THIS VIDEO. IM WAITING FOR MORE FOOTAGE IF THE GUY HAS IT. FLAME AWAY.

im pretty p*ssed off atm, i just put brand new x2ns on my rb and they sound like sh*t... Its sounding worse than stock! Is there anything i can do? Ive been thinkin about buyin a marshall stack as my amp is a total piece of sh*t.
I've been blaming my sound on my amp, i kinda hate it because the normal distortion dosnt work and the presence and reverb do nothing and it has more annoying squeaks than shoving 4 million rats in a glass box and putting cheese on the outside. Well to get to a point i want to know if x2ns work well on any amp or do you need a good amp to get a brain busting tone off x2ns?

Ok...it's not Dean....but I think you guys will forgive..lol
IT's a Jackson Stealth EX that I just bought from one of my friends.....for $40.00 No typo...$40.00! This thing is FOOKIN SWEET!!! The neck is thinner than an Ibanez Wizard neck...thinner than my Dime-o-Flauge neck. The guitar needed a little cleaning and new strings but other than that it's pristine!
I will be adding a spring to the F/R...strings are too much for it....and getting one knob...
I belive it's a '93 model, not sure if the paint is origional or not....has Gotoh tuners, alder body, 22 frets, and a Jackson F/R on it.
YEAAAAH!!!!

No posters in guitar world.
by * on Fri May 25, 2007 12:31 am
anyone else notice this? that used to be my fav part aside from the transcriptions. the used to have awesome posters and one month they just stopped and never came back. what gives?
I was just checking out Khalers, mainly the Khaler X trems, and they seem just as good as Floyds, if not better cause the design seems so much simpler. Theres no chopping of the balls ( ) installation seems just as quick as a stop tail or neck through, just better. The only reason I don't come out and say they are better is cause I have no experience with them. So, they both do the came functions, besides the construction and setup, is there any other big difference? Cause I'm really thinking on getting a Kerry King Signature V, the good one with the matching headstock, not the cheaper $400 one, and I want to know how the Khaler X would be on it.
I'm thinking of painting my ML, black with white pinstripes. but i have no idea where to start or what paint to use, or finish.
-Any tips or just some helpful ideas would help.

MXR ZW44 [Zakk Overdrive]
by Ebut on Fri May 25, 2007 3:53 pm
Dude's!
Anyone got anything to say about the MXR Zakk Wyldde Overdrive?
This little thingy:
I can get a [what I think] kinda sweet deal with this pedal, but is it any good? I'd rather trust your opinion than the standard little bit the online stores tell me.
And has maybe anyone got more samples than the one on the Dunlop site? I like what I'm hearing there, so...
What do you think? Go for it, or waste of money?
I love guitar picks! To me it's the cheapest way to slight alter your tone (which is great for overdubs). I'm always buying and trying different picks. My friends and family often give me picks as gifts.
Here is a photo and description of every pick on my studio desk.
Ultra Cool SR Series by Cool Music
This is one of my favorite picks. I’m not sure of the material. The website says ‘Cellulon Bi-Matrix Composite’ (whatever that means). The material feels a lot like fiberglass picks I used to own. This pick is very stiff with an excellent snappy attack to it. I love the wide smooth bevel on the edge. The picks also features a thin rubber grip which seems to last longer then the grips on other Cool Music picks.
Juratex Sand Texture Accu-grip by Cool Music
Another pick by Cool Music made up of a ‘mystery’ material they call Juratex. It feels a lot like acetal, but the addition of the sand texture makes it preferable to me over a normal acetal pick. The tone is a bit ‘cold’ and the pick lacks the smooth edges of the Cool Music Ultra, but it’s still a nice pick.
Coolcell by Cool Music
A slightly different version of the Juratex Sand Texture pick. This pick has all the same attributes as the sand pick except it has a rubber gripping surface. The rubber seems to wear off after about 50 practice sessions.
Bone pick by Brossard
This pick is a little thicker then I prefer, but it’s got a unique tone. It’s got bell-like highs with a very fast attack. Evidently it’s made of bone. I’m not sure what kind of bone.
Horn pick by Brossard
This pick has an almost identical tone to the Brossard pick. In fact, the tone is so close I just consider them identical. The pick feels a little bit warmer in my hand compared to the bone pick. As with the bone pick, it’s very thick.
Ebony Pick by Brossard
This is an ebony pick from Brossard. Judging from the grain, it’s from a quality of Ebony far below the grade used on my fingerboards. It’s got a cool tone though, it’s much mellower and ‘woody’ sounding compared to most other picks. Sounds great on acoustic guitars or for an unusual electric tone.
Lignum vitae Pick by Brossard
This is a wooden pick made from a type of heartwood. It has a very mellow tone and the most distinctive sound of any pick I own. It’s width make it different for fast playing, but it sound nice for slow strummed chords.
Dava Master Control Pick by Dava
This is a nickel tipped pick in the standard Dava design. Dava picks have a recessed center and varying thickness on the picks. I like their picks because I can quickly find the center of the pick with my thumb and finger. However I’m not crazy about this model Dava. The attack of the nickel is far too harsh for me.
Dava Rock Control Celluloid Pick by Dava
This is a celluloid tipped pick in the standard Dava design. I like these picks and use them often. My preferred Dava is delrin tipped.
Dava Rock Control Delrin Pick by Dava
This is a delrin tipped pick in the standard Dava design. In my opinion this is the best Dava pick. It took me awhile to get used to the small picking tip, but once I did I think it’s made my picking slightly more accurate. Getting used to the pick made me focus more on how the tip of my pick was hitting the string.
Dava Control Pick
This is the original Dava. It’s made from nylon. As much as I like the other Dava picks, I can’t stand this one. I just hate the strange tone I get from nylon picks. It’s like a slight flabby plastic tone. It’s hard to explain, but I know it sucks.
Celluloid picks
This is a standard celluloid guitar pick. The one pictured was produced by In Tune picks, who make quality custom picks. The celluloid pick has been around for years. Nearly every guitar has or has owned celluloid picks.
Ultem picks
Ultem is a new pick material and it’s described as being closest in tone to tortoise shell. Authentic tortoise shell picks are no longer available (the turtle they came from is endangered or close to it). I love the tone of Ultem (brighter then celluloid) but I dislike the unfinished edge that my Ultems have. The edge isn’t a huge deal and I still use them a lot. This particular Ultem pick was made by Steve Clayton.
Delrin picks
Delrin is the generic name for a material often called Tortex. It’s became very popular because of it’s tone and ability to snap very quickly. Delrin is typically colored based on thickness, but some manufactures are offering colors such as black in any thickness. Delrin is probably my favorite pick material. This particular pick is from In Tune.
Plastic pick
This is a plastic pick made by Grover Allman is Australia. These picks are incredibly cheap and made great giveaways (crowds love these since they look so unique). For playability they suck. The feel strange to play and have a brittle tone.
Brain picks
This is a nylon pick with raised center dots for gripping. Since it’s nylon (or something that feels similar) I don’t like.
Acetal
Acetal picks are becoming popular because it’s east and inexpensive to print full color art on them. However their tone suffers from being brittle and the picks themselves are very slick and difficult to hold when sweating. I use these picks for giveaways and not playing.

My previous band Mianus performing the Green Day Classic "Basket Case" with me playing guitar, no solo, no footage just the song and the names of my former bandmates. We had so much fun.
Why is it that the tone sounds nothing like Poundcake or runaround or any of the 5150 era Van halen stuff? My buddy has a 5150 and the tone is nothing like any of the albums. Whats the secret? I know Eddie would sound like himself on a micro cube for frig sake but the Peavey should resemble the tone at least. There must be secret gear.
Alright.. I seem to be in a rut.
I can't write a song anymore. I don't know what it is, but I just can't seem to piece anything together. I've tried doing something different, and then going back to the riffs I was working on. Didn't work.
Warmoth
by emunder on Sat May 26, 2007 5:14 am
Anybody here build a Warmoth guitar? Looks like they sell some real quality stuff and you could probably build a pretty d@mn nice guitar for about a grand. I'm just wondering if the necks need any fretwork or are they pretty much ready to go. I think I could handle a project like that for the most part. Be pretty killer to build a Rhodes with a Mahagony neck/body, Ebony fretboard, single EMG 81 in the bridge & an original floyd.
Why don't more musicians use Crate amps?
I don't think I've heard of a single one that uses them.
Personally, my little Crate practice amp is... well, a practice amp. But my buddy has a souped-up half stack in his living room and it is killer. It's pretty damn cheap too, compared to some of the other high-quality brand amps I've seen.
In a few weeks, my band's gonna playing for our end-of-year assembly in school, and I'm really stressing about how we're gonna sound and all that.
Our last two shows were complete bombs in terms of sound, and it's something I don't want to happen for my last day of high-school.
Right now I'm thinking about how I can get the best out of my Roland Cube 60. Some of you may be thinking: "why the f*%@ are you using a Cube 60 on-stage?"...well it's because there's no better alternative here
I was just wondering how I can set it up to sound great. I'm not exactly an expert with this stuff yet, so I figured I'd come to you guys
On stage, how should I adjust the EQ? I've read some stuff about increasing the Mids while on-stage for tube amps, but does this also apply to solid states?
And what about the Presence? At what point do you think it would be too high? I usually have it at about 3 o'clock on the knob...
Thanks

Since i first saw it, i thought that this mic is one of the coolest lookin
things on stage, but, since i've started to deal more with (home) recording and production for my band Skaut, my dad has been kind enough to buy this mic for me. So anyway, it's still not here yet, but i just wanted to ask you guys if anyone here has had any experiences with it and what are your opinions about it.
This sounds fairly n00b, but as you can see, my 2000+ posts pwn you.
Anyways, what is all this talk about putting pedals in the loop and all that? I do see, on the back of my amp, that there is an "Effects send" and an "Effects return" input...
I have not an idea what all of this means. I always put my pedals all up front. What's the difference between putting pedals "in the loop" and putting them in front?
Custom built USA BFH TCML is at BRG....STEVE IS DA MAN!!!
This is at BRG right now and will ship to me next week. This is the first, and as of now, the only ML with natural edges. The custom shop guys had to go to Dean Z to get approval before they could do it. It turned out great. Steve is AWESOME!!! I can't say enough good things about him. I don't think I ever talked to him on the phone for less than 30 minutes at a time. Everytime he got an update I got one as well. If I had a question that he didn't have the answer to, he would get it for me. Also, while coming up with the details for this guitar and I would be unsure about something, Steve would give me his opinion. I took every one of his suggestions and don't regret a single one of them. If you are in the same boat, listen to the man, he knows of what he speaks. These pictures are Steves and are pretty good, however, I reserve the right to post more pictures once the guitar arrives to me.
Thank you Steve, the only way I could be happier is if the guitar was actually in my hands.
Now.....about that Z.....
Ignore the car that honks at the beginning. I messed one chord or 2 after the solo but I couldn't be bothered to redo it cause you get the gist of it. For your viewing pleasure or displeasure I detuned my FBD for good and here's what I did with it.

Post your limited run pr0n.

i was gone for months and i didn't get to see finished versions of the MLF666, and lots of other geets. so, post all your limited runs. NOT usa customs. limited run import models only
I was gonna go with the micro cube but this one was cheaper and I didn't need the effects or battery functions. Sounds pretty sweet too. I do need to adjust the eq when swithing between distorsion models but that's to be expected. Now I can leave my rig at the jam space when I'm too unfit to carry it (for some unknown reason ) and use the cube. I believe new gear threads are useless without pics so without further adue.
I was jamming to the DR. feelgood album now that I have a floyded guitar in D standard and I must say for the money I payed I'm pretty happy. I won't replace my stage rig but for it's purpose it's a great buy. the power squeezer function is fun and useful too.

i always thought they'd be great. they actually get their videos played on MTV2 maybe even MTV, so that's a hell of an exposure. not to mention they play gibsons but have no actual deal with them
how could would it be to see them rocking a silverburst V, and a soltero or white v?
A Happy belated (just a few days off) Birthday to Lewnworx!!
Dean should convince Tony Iommi to come to Dean! He's just about the only real guitar hero still alive that hasn't already. Who's with me?

Did someone ask for tapping?
I got to admit this is impressive even if it's not my preffered style.

Much difference between these speakers?
Celestion seventy 80 vs Celestion vintage 30.
I'm asking becuase I got a killer deal on a R412cxm cab with seventy 80's that I think sounds good but the majority of players go with the vintage 30's. I'm going to use this cab with my futrure head purchases so is there much difference? My cab is mint and I could get my money back pretty fast most likely and get the cab with vintage 30's if it's really worth it. They didn't have a vintage 30 randall for me to try and the deal was too good to pass up.
Heads in future: Randall V2 and either a mesa Roadster or Powerball by Engl.
Found This, Thought it was cool..

Anyone have one or played one? how is the floyd rose on it? thanks
Theres many Explorer type bodies...
So why aren't there any that look like this? (I made the top one)
Honestly, the ESP EX is the closest I can find to that body. Basically I took it and gave it strait lines and points all over. I like that better than an ML, not kidding. That's why I'm seriously thinking about just making my own Explorer body from scratch, and calling it the 'Navigator' or the 'Finder' or 'Excursion' or 'Into the Unknown' or 'Just find out whats in that frippin land CLARK!' or something.
Sorry, just had to vent a bit.
Stoopid amp questions**....
**before I get sharted upon, I tried the "search" function, for the 47th time, and it blows...I know all this crap has probably been covered several times, but...
Can someone please explain to me the difference between Class A, Class A/B, and solid state- amp wise? Please?
Why is Class A so much LOUDER than everything else? I mean, like blisteringly loud!
And what the hell does RMS mean? Why does 15 watts Class A blow the living dog shite out of a 50w RMS solid state amp?
I've heard before that "watts" doesn't equal "volume", but why is there such a big difference?
...waits to be educated...
Dean ML XP Metallic White

!!!THE FRANKENDEAN!!!
Ever since i was a freshman in highschool, i had this crazy idea to mix my obsessive passion for Frankenstien, and a guitar... well, the day has come to make dreams come true... or the nightmares!!!
I basicly took the frankenstien basics, and threw it on my most pride guitar in the world, the Dean ML. for my 18th birthday i only asked for a huge party (which was amazing btw), and a Dean MLX so i can finally make this idea a reality.... i got'em both, and im the luckest guy alive!! I called up my partner in crime Bradwick, and asked him to help me out with the project to make the most uniqe ML in the world...
What i basicly did was take the guitar as it was...
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b160/TeeJayRIFFF/102_1956.jpg
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b160/TeeJayRIFFF/102_1957.jpg
and, i said goodbye to the classic ML style, and stripped the whole motherf@#$% down peice by peice... and came out like this
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b160/TeeJayRIFFF/102_1958.jpg
Then sanded down all the paint on the peices...
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b160/TeeJayRIFFF/Mar19_0004.jpg
then it finally came down to the paint job...
Started out makein the red stripes on the wings...
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b160/TeeJayRIFFF/Mar21_0001.jpg
used normal tape, im a cheap ass
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b160/TeeJayRIFFF/Mar21_0002.jpg
Then throw down my FAVORITE color of gray....DEAD GRAY!!
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b160/TeeJayRIFFF/Mar21_0003.jpg
After all that was done, and waitin a few hours for it to dry, whil eim lookin at porn and KISS videos with bradwick online!! we bring it inside where i do my thing with a black marker.... once again, a cheap half/ass way, but it'll look frackin cool!! hahaha, i first outline the red strips to give it the "cartoonish" and "comic book" look...
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b160/TeeJayRIFFF/Mar21_0005.jpg
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b160/TeeJayRIFFF/Mar21_0006.jpg
Then. NERVOUSLY!! i only had one shot on layin down the outlines of the stichings, if i @#%$@!!& up, then we would re-paint the buddy!! but lucky enough, i nailed it the first shot!!
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b160/TeeJayRIFFF/Mar21_0007.jpg
The funny part of makein this guitar happen, was that when we painted the neck, we forgot to remove a peice of tape right behind where the neck meets the headstock... so when we had this empty spot on the neck where it was wood color... Bradwick took out a black marker and wrote "HERMAN" for Herman Munster from "The Munsters".... it was funny as hell at the time, but little did i know, that was the new name for the guitar, HERMAN!!! *notice the wood color on the neck*
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b160/TeeJayRIFFF/Mar21_0009.jpg
But all in the end, it was all finished within a weeks worth of planning, and a days worth of painting.... Bradwick handled all the wireing and hardware s#%t, because im a retart with a soddering gun!! hahaha, but here's the final artwork!!
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b160/TeeJayRIFFF/102_1969.jpg
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b160/TeeJayRIFFF/102_1970.jpg
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b160/TeeJayRIFFF/102_1967.jpg
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b160/TeeJayRIFFF/meandHERMAN.jpg
I love that guitar!! i'll take it with me where ever the road goes!! a custom paint job should be somethign that shows your personality, and this one hit the nail on the head!!! i think its the most uniqe DEAN on the planet aside from the Dean From Hell, hahaha...
But yea, im proud to hell to own this sucker and made it with my own two hands!! goes to show what u can do with some tape, a marker, and a few cans of spray paint!!....oh yea, pluse an imagination!!
