EVH D-tuna
by Head-Banger on Fri Jun 01, 2007 6:54 pm
I have been planning to buy a Dean with a Floyd Rose, and since it is hard to change the tune with a floyd, the EVH D-tuna will be neccesary. I have also heard that the D-tuna doesn't fit all the floyds.

So my problem is that can you put a EVH D-tuna on Dean '79's Floyd Rose.

I have been using combo amps a long time now and my band is starting to play gigs at local pubs and places. So i think i need a better amp not the line 6 combo which doesnt have a GREAT tone and isnt loud enough.

i would like amp that does good metal tones like the 5150/6505 yet that is way out of my price range lol.
Any recomendations?

Your first guitar from a "big" brand.
by Blazer on Sat Jun 02, 2007 12:23 pm
I'm sure we all know brands like Gibson, Fender, Ibanez, the works. Those brands that come with a legend attached to their name and I'm sure we all worked towards owning a guitar made by one of those brands. Let's talk about the times we actually succeeded and got to own one of those big brand made guitars.

My First Fender
Was a Candy Apple Red Japanese Telecaster. I bought it used on my eighteenth birthday in 1994. It was a fifties reissue model with a maple neck and a one piece white pickguard, it was a lovely guitar that because of poverty of being a college student, I had to sell it and I still miss that guitar.

My First Gibson
Image
Was a 1993 Nighthawk special in cherry red. It was a cool guitar with a slick playability plus I was so stoked because it was my very first Gibson. But the sound was a dissapointment. I had the three pickup model and neither the single coil settings or the Humbucker setting had that magical "It" It wasn't until I bought my second Gibson (an SG) when I found out for myself how a Gibson SHOULD sound because that one had the magical "IT" in all the sounds I get from it. I sold my Nighthawk but every so now and then I see it resurface on auction sites going from owner to owner, I guess a lot of people found out about that guitar that it doesn't have that Magical "It" in it's sound.

Whammy bar question for tuning
by visi0nX on Sat Jun 02, 2007 7:28 pm
Iv'e had my FBD Trib guitar for about almost a year now, its fun as %$#@! obviously.

I learned the Trademark Dime Squeel a while back but i never bothered to figure if there is a way to make it so when doing dives or any of that on a whammy for the strings not to go crap out of tune?

Other than doing a bunch of stuff and retuning like a madman every 5 minutes is there any other way?

Me and my friend recently went down to C standard tuning a couple months back, i dont do whammy stuff to often now with that tuning because of how easy it is to bend in C standard but i'd still like to without my crap going out of tune every time i do it.

does anybody here use the mark 4 head by mesa/boogie? if so, how does it sound and how much did it cost?i play in a metal band and right now i have a shitty behringer v-tone 212. no matter how i tweek my settings my sound always struggles to cut through all the other instruments, so im looking for a nice heavy sounding loud amp.i was thinking about going for a krank or randall, but now im really interested in the mesa lineup, preferably the mark 4 head and cab series.

Dime-o-flame Floyd Rose Problems
by TheBozz666 on Sun Jun 03, 2007 2:41 pm
I bought a Dean dime-o-flame 2 weeks ago, its an amazing guitar. when the Floyd rose is it the normal position its fine, but when i go to pull it up, to get a higher pitch i hear a click sound inside the guitar. i think that maybe the springs in the back may be getting caught on a screw, or something such as that, but i don't know what to do with it. if anybody has any ideas whats up with it let me know.

Laney (or other) small tube 15w combos - JUST GOT ONE!
by Anonymous on Sun Jun 03, 2007 5:43 pm
I'm looking for a small 15w (max) all-tube amp (I only play at home and I'm tired of having to crank really loud to get a good sound).

I want cristal clear cleans and warm bluesy tone.

Mandatory:
Must have reverb;
At least 10" speaker.

It would be great if:
Amp has an integrated DI;
Has preferably 2 channels;
12" speaker.

My budget is around $400.

So far I'm looking at Laney's
Laney VC 15R 15W (http://www.laney.co.uk/show_prod.php?prod=vc15-110)
Laney LC 15R 15W (http://www.laney.co.uk/show_prod.php?prod=lc15r)

Anyone wants to help out with the Laneys or any other suggestions?

Thank you!
Having problems with my 79 MLF Floyd
by Trendkiller96 on Sun Jun 03, 2007 7:21 pm
I actually have more than one problem. When I do the extreme dives, I have to put a lot of muscle into it and then when I snap it back I hear a popping sound. Also, when I pull back on my floyd, the trem kind of slides away from the right post and sinks a little (it doesn't slide OFF the screw, it just noticeably goes back ever so slightly). Now... my theory is that the bridge is catching on the wood, because on the right side of the guitar the tremolo is right up against the body. I'm no floyd noob, I know how to set them up and intonate them just fine, but in this case I don't know what to do.
The Klaxons
by Mingeeta on Sun Jun 03, 2007 9:59 pm
How did this band get famous?????

I saw them playing live on TV and it was just well shocking, the whole song sounded out of tune and the vocalists could not sing any of the high notes to save their lives.

Just watch the live videos, it's embarrassing, I've seen local bands for 2 pound better than this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sgg5Yynrd08

Oh, and they're not an electronic grindcore band which it sounds like, they're some sort of indie band.

Amp advice?
by metalmessiah17 on Mon Jun 04, 2007 4:17 pm
I've grown kinda sick of my current amp head (Marshall MG100-HDFX), I'm trying to find something to give me a little more kick in the distortion channel. I essentially have to keep my Overdrive on at all times to get the right level of distortion I'm looking for.

Right now I'm looking at either the B-52 ST-100A or Crate Blue Voodoo 120 (unless someone can recommend something anything else). I only want to spend around $600, give or take a little, which is obviously limiting what I can get. Recommendations? I was mainly looking at tube amps, but I'm not against solid state if it sounds good.

Musical Instrument Insurance.
by BradWorld on Mon Jun 04, 2007 6:40 pm
Read this post a while ago and thought it was a good idea. It just took me a while to get all my stuff inventoried and catalogued. But after procrastinating for a long time, I finally completed all my homework and got my policy started. The people at Heritage Insurance were easy to deal with. And the policy was very reasonable... I would highly recommend it.

So thanks to BigDog for turning the forum on to this insurance company. I am sorry he had to suffer a loss before he got on board.

BigDog wrote:
I suppose for most of us it is not "IF" your gear gets ripped off but when.

I had my truck broken into two weeks ago while at a retail store (2 spaces from the front door.)
Took all of about 5 minutes to break in and take what was there. Had $2100 worth of gear.....alot of it music stuff, effects, Roland SYnth etc.

As some of you might know, auto insurance doesn't cover this.
Homeowners will, minus the deductible. If you carry a high deductible (like 1% of your home's value) you might as well not have any. But like in most lessons.....you learn something.

I am now getting a "Music Gear" Policy . Standard Homeowners "Floaters" won't cover a loss if you are a Gigging Musician.

But this company , Heritage Musical Arts and Trades Insurance Program THru St. Pauls Travelers ( www.musicins.com) covers any loss, anywhere, anytime, gigging or not with your gear or anyone's you may borrow with no deductible. Their minimum annual premium is $250. The more gear you have the better deal it is.

So........just ask yourself .....If my gear was stolen, (from home or auto) what would it cost me.....

Good overdrive/distortion for Marshall JCM 900
by PanterRAW on Tue Jun 05, 2007 11:27 pm
I'm lookin' to get a new sound, I got a Marshall JCM 900 halfstack. I'm lookin' for a sound like Zakk wylde had on No More Tears, and Ozzmosis. Something really low end and heavy like Zakk's sound during those albums. I know Zakk used a JCM 800, but other than that I'm not sure on what he used to get a deep distortion sound like that.

Now, for tube amps, you use overdrive pedals right? Not actual distortion pedals, or does it not really matter? I'm going to some local guitar stores tomorrow, and I have an idea of the sound I want, but am not sure on which pedals I should look at. I've been looking at the ZW-44, I'm gonna try that one out tomorrow. Is there any other or better pedals I should look at, that can come close to the low end booming distortion I'm after?

I appreciate any help with this, thanks guys.

i know that there are a couple of us in Ohio/Kentucky. MAB will be at willis music in centerville ( dayton suburb) on june 18th for a clinic.
_____________________________________________________
And now for the post clinic report.....

so the clinic was great. Sorry no photos of the action, they asked that no photos or video be taken during the clinic.

Poor Michael was jet lagged to next week and back, flew in from south korea, around 5 hours sleep in almost 3 days, plane delays etc etc etc. had some tech troubles at the store, they gave him guitars with new strings that hadn't been stretched, sound probs etc etc. ....BUT.....

Michael being the consumate professional apologized (which he did not need to do) and waded through the difficulties to put on a killer clinic, some great playing interspersed with some educational insights and information (did you know that the term virtuoso was not really a compliment back in the day?). he discussed his picking technique, vibrato, showmanship, and had some great anecdotes.
He kept his energy level high despite having every right to pass out standing up.

Of course he talked about Dean guitars and how nice they are, the quality, the history etc.

Finally MAB stuck around and signed autographs and took pictures with all who wanted them.

I got to talk to Jeff (Jeff meets Jeff) the Dean rep that was there, we were both wearing the dean stage shirt(wow same name same shirt), the MAB signiture model should be ready in a short while. He also brought a selection of USAs and a couple imports to show off.

Apparently MAB will be in Forence, KY tuesday 06/19 at the florence mall Willis Music. he will probably start at 7pm like here and will finally get some solid sleep tonight. (sleep well Michael you more than deserve it.) so any of you in the KY/OH area have another chance to go see him, i might make the trip myself if all goes well.

Thanks again Michael it was a great time! Very Happy

I've never held one in my hands before, so I gotta ask here. Is the Cadillac solidbody? If you know anything about what I do on custom builds, you know why I'm askin'.

I'm seriously considering the Caddy for the next build. I got an evil idea.

Swapping EMG's
by Meisterjäger on Thu Jun 07, 2007 12:22 am
I just switched the 81 and the 60 around in my LTD, putting the 60 in the bridge. I was string changing anyway, and HATED the 81, so I figured why the hell not.

At this present time it's 01.18am so I can crank chizz up and give her a good go, but anything's better than that nasty 81 I had in there. I just done the quiet little mess around to make sure stuff was working, and it sounds better... I'm immensely in love with the sound I get from the JB in my Fernandes, but I think that's mainly due to the body material.

I've been meaning to pick up an EMG 85 to try in the bridge... I'll most probably do that if the 60 don't quite work for me, and I imagine I'll ultimately go for an SD pair.

One question I do have is about hooking up just one EMG. I'm fairly sure it's possible, does anyone know how?

Hell, I can't even give you good sound clips... Just thought I'd share the wealth!

Did I get Ripped Off?
by deathgrind on Fri Jun 08, 2007 2:17 am
About 2 months ago I sold an amp on my sisters bf's ebay account for the price of $610 wich included shipping charges via paypal. He gave me $580 saying that the rest was charged for using paypal.

The other day I bought 2 pairs of shoes, they were on sale for $30 bucks a pair and happened to be the last ones left and luckily my size. I decided to keep one pair and bring the ones I didnt like back for a refund. I remembered my sis saying Cesar (her bf) needed some shoes so I brought em over to their house and he liked em and said he would pay me the next day. 2 days pass and no money. Today I go over to hang out, ask him for the money, and oddly enough he says he got a bill from ebay for 18 to list the amp and other fees (keep in mind its from 2 months ago). So he gave me 12 and said we were even.

So is it all some BS or does ebay and paypal really work like that?

This will be my second Icon. I am a big fan of these guitars. The one I currently have has become one of my favorites. Anyhow.....I can see a third Icon in my future someday as well !

How *NOT* to get your gear stolen?
by funkify on Fri Jun 08, 2007 6:00 pm
In a recent thread discussing gear insurance, someone mentioned that it's not a matter of IF but WHEN your gear will get stolen. That statement surprised me a bit. I'm a fairly new player, and I'm getting my act together and hope to start gigging soon. I don't have all the high end stuff that many of you guys have, but I still don't want to get my gear ripped off.

Once a few years back I was mugged in New Orleans. It wasn't bad, I wasn't physically harmed and the guys only got away with the amount cash I had on me, but I came away with several things in mind of what I could have done to avoid it.

So I thought I'd ask the experienced giggers here, especially those of you who have had things stolen, what kinds of things can/should you do to minimize the risk of having your gear stolen? Because if you have had your gear stolen, I'm sure in many cases you could look back and say, "If only I had [done this or that] then my gear wouldn't have gotten stolen."

Any advice?

Quick ESP question
by Warlock_340 on Sat Jun 09, 2007 3:47 am
So, I really like the ESP 'See-thru black cherry' color, but they don't put it on the EX. I have no idea why. So, does anyone know if it's at all possible if I can just add a bit of money and get an EX strait from them in STBC, instead of paying the 4k for a custom shop, or getting one and getting it repainted right away? It took me a while to make this in paint, but man it looks good.

Me (literally) playing a "little" guitar
by flah on Sat Jun 09, 2007 5:16 pm
http://youtube.com/watch?v=PHYGd6Ulh3o

Yesterday I went to the local shop and the salesdood handed me this little guitar. My son was with me and I asked him if he wanted it and he said "yeah". I've been wanting to buy a little guitar for my kids for quite some time. I was thinking about the Dean Babys, but the necks are full sized and I didn't wanna spend $200 for something they might not be interested in. So this one was available for $50, made in Korea, and it played decently and the electronics were fine. I recorded this short clip of me just messin around on a Roland Microcube. The strings are 12s, and the tuning is standard. I couldn't believe the tones coming out of this super mini rig. It's kind of funny.

I has a big decision.
by Warlock_340 on Sun Jun 10, 2007 4:22 am
I'm in the market for a Stoptale guitar. I really want two. I need to make the decision quick, and just want some opinions.

My choices are an ESP LTD EX 400, and the 'Cadzilla' Limited run.

It's like, I can save 580 for the ESP, then get it a week or 2 after I get the $$, or pay a 50 buck commitment fee, then wait a long time, then pay about 750 more. This is one of the hardest decisions in my life. I like them both equally.

Dean Guitars being SUED? For "Razorback" name
by Armitage on Sun Jun 10, 2007 4:05 pm
http://www.arkansasbusiness.com/article.aspx?aID=98310.98502.110448&cID=c

In its (University of Arkansas') filing, the UA alleges Dean's line of Razorback guitars with names like "Dime USA V Razorback Skull" will create confusion among consumers, the UA "is or is likely to be damaged" and that purchasers are "likely to buy Defendants' products in the mistaken belief they are connected in some way with the University."

Huh? Don't think so, unless they sell them in the school caff... and if their students are that thick at the university, they need better testing.

What a waste of court time.

Any Razorback owners here buy theirs because they thought of the University of Arkansas' when they bought it?

{Insert} sound of crickets {/insert}

Now if it was a Razorback Banjo, THAT would make me think of Arkansas.

NEW SIGNED GUITAR DAY (+some show pics)
by Planeshift on Sun Jun 10, 2007 8:28 pm
welp, last night my band (Thirteenth Order - www.myspace.com/thirteenthorder) played at the South Jersey Music Festival battle of the bands. We won 1st Place and received $300 + 6 tickets to Warped Tour + A show at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia. I won the Best Guitarist award so I won a guitar...its an Ernie Ball Musicman/OLP signed by a bunch of bands from Warped Tour like The Used, The Casualties, The Circle Jerks, and NOFX. Not a fan of any bands..but its still a cool prize. It plays alright...its no Dean though. Lol. How much do you guys think its worth?

travelling overseas with a guitar
by tensor465 on Mon Jun 11, 2007 12:01 am
for 10 days in july im going to china on a music tour with my school and im not sure what i should do about taking my guitar. ive got two options, hopefully soon to be 3 if i get it in time, they are: ltd ex-400 (solid bridge), dean FBD ML (floyd), and an esp horizon fr-ii (floyd) which im hoping ill have in time. out of my dean and my ltd i'll probably take the ltd because its lighter(10kg compared to 11kg in a hardcase), but if i get the esp in time i'll probably take that because its far lighter than both of those two but i dont know what happens to a fully recessed floyd:

does anyone have any experiences travelling with a guitar that has a floyd? does it need to be re levelled when you get there? does the truss rod need to be adjusted? will i need to restring?

thanks to everyone who replies, all input will be helpful Smile
Guitars Made Of Rock...

This guy says he can build a guitar to your specs made from obsidian, the stuff that forms when magma cools. If he could make it a lil more clean than the guitar on the opening page that would make a pretty damn cool ML. What do you guys think of a guitar made of rock?

My Randall head & cabinet. Anyone have more info?
by xixor on Mon Jun 11, 2007 8:56 am
Hello everybody, I just thought I would post some pics of my Randall head & cabinet, and see if anyone on the forum knew more about it.

The story of the purchase: I was in the market for a head & cab, or similar amp. Something with enough firepower to do some damage without breaking the bank. I went to all the local guitar stores and pawn shops to see what was available. There wasn't much in the used market, unless you wanted an over priced Marshall cabinet and correspondingly overpriced head. I went to one last shop, and was poking around. All they had were some $3000+ mesa boogie setups. I was poking around, and beneath a huge pile of boxes and promo-material (I think it was material B.C. Rich promo stuff), I saw some wood paneling, and the word "Randall". Curious, I removed boxes, and lo-and-behold, a 4x12 cab, and head with a sign on it, "Make me an offer.". So, I made an offer (I think $300 CDN), which was accepted, paid cash, (I recall having to live off about $25 for the next few weeks).

The head is extremely simple. It has two channels each having its own eq, no dirty sound or gain, and one of the channels has a reverb. I usually get my dirty sound using a boss metal zone pedal used through the effects loop in my GT-6.

I have had it for several years now, and gigged with it many times, doing cover tunes from Pantera, GnR and Judas Priest to Barenaked Ladies and Greenday, and some of my own songs. It has always treated me right, and sounded great, whether I need a rip-roaring metal, a warm dirty blues tone or a clean acoustic sound. On more than one occasion, I have had people come up to me after a show who were certain that I was playing through a tube amp

Anyhoo, enough flabby-fleep, here is the pr0n:

Image

Image

Image

Image

From the photos, the only marking on the cabinet says, "Randall Instruments Inc", Model "E-412", Serial "1005", 4 Ohms

and the only identifying info on the head is :

Watts: 200
Model: <BLANK>
Serial: 5959

I emailed the guys at Randall about it, curious to its year and what-not, but they couldn't tell me much. They said it was from before Randall was purchased by US Music (?? in 1990??), so they didn't have much info on it. They passed it onto an engineer there, who said it might be similar to an RG-180, and passed me this schematic:

Image

But didn't seem too sure of whether it was actually similar, or not.

Anyone know anything about it this amp?

Thanks,

xixor.
3 pickups as opposed to 2
by scott58 on Mon Jun 11, 2007 2:37 pm
I keep looking at the Dean caddy 1980 reissue (just love the series II V head stock). After looking a bit I've found there are to models. One with 2 humbuckers the other with 3. How much more do you get out of the additional electronics and is it worth the few hundred extra? I play a bit of def leppard, motley crew, kiss, Iron maiden etc when it comes to my electric. Here is a site with the 2 pickup model

by WillThePlank on Mon Jun 11, 2007 3:19 pm
hey. i recently bought a dimebag fbd tribute ml which i really love to bits but the floyd rose keeps coming loose to where the bar is held and i have had to resort to leaving the back plate of to keep tightening it off. its even more annoying having to undo the bar when you want to put it into the case.

Family Picture and history
by Tuckerpig on Mon Jun 11, 2007 5:00 pm
Hey guys,

Well I said I was going to do this a while ago and today I had a little time. Hopefully you guys won't be too bored with this, but here it is anyway. Oh and I am sorry all the pictures are on their sides I have really crappy software for pictures on this computer.

I started playing guitar a little late in life (early 30's) and when I decide that I really wanted to give this a try I decided to save up and buy a good guitar, or what I thought was a good guitar, in the hopes that if I spent enough money I wouldn't give up playing as easy as other things I had started in the past.

Here is my first guitar

Image

This is my USA Fender Strat Plus. It originally came with Fender Lace Sensor pickups, which I still have, but I changed them out with Fender Custom Shop Fat '50's. The sound sound quality to my ears is much better.

The follow are just a few more pictures of this guitar.

Image

I really like this guitar. The neck is real fast and I never really had any problems with it, but I just don't play it much anymore which I will explain a little later.

This last picture shows the locking tuners. I like these, they seem to stay in tune really well and I don't know why more manufacturers don't install them on their guitars.

Image

Ok I then started feeling the pains of G.A.S. and I always wanted one of these for years, so for my second guitar I bought myself a USA Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus.

Image

I really like the flame on the body of this guitar.

Image

This is just a picture of the headstock. Don't know why I took it, but I felt I needed to I guess Smile.

Image

This picture just shows the black back of the guitar. I really like this color combination with the Desert Burst with a Black back, but it damn well shows all finger prints.

Image

I still love this Les Paul, but lately I have been thinking about changing out the humbuckers, but that is a project for another day. Anyway now it is onto another guitar that I have fun with.

This is my Taylor 615 CE (I'll explain why it really isn't a CE even though Taylor says it is) which is my third guitar.

Image

This guitar has a Sitka Spruce top with curly maple sides and back. The sound is very crisp on the highs and it has a nice deep low end. The body really allows the sound to project a long distance. Now many of you that might own Taylor's know what the CE stands for, cutaway and electronics, well this 2000 model doesn't have either and I think I like it better that way. I had contacted Taylor Guitars to ask them about this and they said that this particular guitar was probably part of a special order and it was suppose to be made with both, but never was. I think that is bull crap, but I still got a good price on it and love this acoustic. Here are a few more pictures.

Image

Though in hindsight I should have taken a better picture, but the headstock is actually three pieces of wood glues together with this laminate top. The workmanship is seamless, and the neck on this is wonderful to play on.

Image

OK this next picture really shows the curly maple back of this guitar. Also notice that it is a three piece back. Taylor is no longer doing this and I am not really sure why. Still I think this makes this guitar unique.

Image

The back and sides of this guitar really match up well.

Image

OK, by now I am sure a lot of you Dean Hardcore enthusiasts are saying "why the hell is this guy posting all these non-Dean pictures on the Dean site, well wait a little bit more and you will see.

This next guitar I bought when I was offered a "deal I really could not refuse". This is my Gibson Chet Atkins Country Gentleman from 1990.

Image

This guitar is a dark brown guitar with an ebony fretboard. I actually like the sound/tone quality of this guitar better then my Les Paul. Here are a few more pictures.

Image

This one shows the back of the guitar (as you all can tell). The neck on this I find really nice to play on. The neck is smooth and as of yet has not given me any problems.

Image

OK, the reason I included this picture is to show the width of this guitar. A lot of players don't understand that this guitar is really this thin because the sound is really deep. To be truthful, I bought this guitar because I always liked the group the Sea Hags and this guitar sounded close to the sound I was looking for (I know they played ES-335 but this guitar at the price I was given could not be turned down).

Image

Alright I went a few years without buying anything new when I got some bad news last year concerning my health. I will not get into that, but I did something that really pissed my wife off, but made me feel really good. I bought this.

Image

This is my USA Dean Hardtail. I had always wanted one ever since I saw the first pictures of them when they were first released, but could never really find one around where I lived. I finally decided to buy one site unseen and I am glad I did. This did lead to a small problem in that I have almost stopped playing all my other electrics now. I have really found utmost enjoyment playing this guitar (but I still suck at playing guitar) and it helped me out in some bad times last year by allowing me not to dwell, at least for some short periods of time, on my medical problems.

Here are a few more. Enjoy.

Image

This one didn't come out as clear as I would have liked, but it does give a good picture of the ebony fretboard and the inlays (well at least a blurry picture Smile)

Image

This shows the back of the guitar. Sorry if a little streaky, but I just was playing it and thought I wiped it down good enough, evidentially not.

Image

I love the weight and the way this guitar feels when I play it. I really love my Hardtail which was my first Dean but not the last by a long shot.

A few weeks ago I bought this guitar. It is an import, but I still like the way it plays. I might not be real fond of the sound of the humbuckers, but that can be easily changed.

This is my Dean Cadillac. Though an import it has convinced me to save up for the USA model, which I hopefully will get sometime in the near future.

Image

This next picture is a mistake by me, I kind of washed out the D in Dean but at least it shows the headstock real well.

Image

Image

Oh and to end this little Twisted Evil post of mine, here is a picture of the real Tuckerpig and the white Cadillac.

Question about pickup "blades"
by Schtoogie on Mon Jun 11, 2007 5:23 pm
I've had repairs done and custom pickups put in several guitars, but I still don't understand what the "blades" are. I just tell the guys at the shop to put them in backwards. :\

Isn't it like, hot blades face away from each other, or something? Can someone clear this up for me?

by scott58 on Mon Jun 11, 2007 5:54 pm
How does your caddy compare to your hard tail? I already know I like the hardtail. Only one i've tried that I like better then my Icon. Are the necks and playability similar? I got small hands and a jacked up left wrist and slim neck is something i gotta have. Thanks

My Response to the UNIVERSITY of ARKANSAS suing Dean

i left this little bit on their news page, idk if it will make it, but i wanted to make fun of some of them, and maybe get them a little bit pissed... s#%t pisses me off

Erlanger, KY. In recent events, I have read the article that the University of Arkansas is SUING Dean Guitars for having the "Razorback" guitar line. The people at the University of Arkansas are idiots, seriously grow up, a guitar company will not damage your image. In fact, having the razor back name will boost your image in the heavy metal community, because it seems like you are supporting Darrel "Dimebag" Abbot, but you didn't think of that now did you? of course not, you just want your frippin money. Seriously, you'll make more money trying to get on the heavy metal world's good side and supporting the name and the guitar, rather than to say "we get all the profit" now on the other hand, you bastards are just greedy and want to make money, thats what car washes are for. Now please get over yourselves and get a life. There was no damage to your school, the damage that was done to the school, you did to yourself, you have given yourselves a really bad name, and i know of no kid that would ever want to step foot on your premises for any good cause. I really was an interested student in your law program, however now that you are suing a company that is trying to carry on the legacy of a man that was brutally gunned down in cold blood who was just doing his job, no. You all are ignorant wastes of space, seriously, you should just back off because you all are getting yourselves into 10 kinds of below 70 IQ type you have never seen before.

now please, lets give them a thrashing and a bottle of pills they will never forget

I dont think I could be more jealous of my parents
by Mingeeta on Tue Jun 12, 2007 12:49 pm
So, I went to Download festival, then during Saturday about 2 and a half hours before Hellyeah I got a phone call from my parents who were staying in a hotel nearby so they could take me home later.

Well the phone call was basicall to say that Vinnie Paul had just checked out of the same hotel and they spoke to him and got his autograph for me. WHAAAATTT.

I then get a phone call later to say that Motley Crue had been wandering around the hotel as well.

Then later I found out that I had a chance to meet Vinnie Paul and the rest of Hellyeah in the Kerrang Signing Tent. But it meant I would miss most of Machinehead. So I waited for about 40 minutes or more before being told that no-one else would be allowed in as the next band would have to get ready for their signings, Aiden, garrgh.

So I missed most of Machinehead to stand in the heat for nothing, and my parents got to meet Vinine Paul and the guitarist from hellyeah. BBarrrrghhhh, it did give me enough anger to push my way through about 100,000 people to catch the last couple of machinehead songs and get a good place for slayer though.

But seriously, my parents meeting Vinnie Paul arrrghrhhhujot'gyjuu

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a new guitar. I should be getting a job this summer and, hopefully, should have about $1200 by the time school starts in September. Anyway, there are several things that I'm looking for in a guitar: ebony fingerboard, 24 frets, and a good floating trem. I've been looking around online lately and haven't found anything that is exactly what I'm looking for. I know it will be hard to find an import with all these features, but if I'm going to spend a grand I want to get what I really want.

I've been hanging around the forum for a while and know that a lot of you guys know a LOT about guitars, so any advice at all would be appreciated.

This is what it looked like before but the varnish began to flake like crazy so it looked really ugly after a while so I stripped it and applied a matte black base coat.

And after that one set I applied "Hot rod Red"

I still need to sand it smooth and polish it but as you can see, it looks really striking.

the emg 18 volt is totally worth it
by j.arledge on Wed Jun 13, 2007 1:47 am
i got some emgs for my razorback , an 81 and an 85 . The dude i traded with had wired up the pickups for the 18 volt mod and just sent everything so i decided i'd try it out . For anyone that says emgs are stale or lifeless , you need to try the 18 volt mod . to me it makes the pickups much more organic sounding, as well give a larger feel to the sound . It seems to take some power away but i think that is because the frequencey responce is spread out instead of very tight which makes precived output from standard 9v seem so high .

anyways i think it is worth it , and i recommend it to any emg user looking for more full organic paf style tone .
Any Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush fans out there?
by Northwinds on Wed Jun 13, 2007 3:10 am
Just wondered, much of my early playing influences are derived from him. One of the best blues/jazz/psyche players out there. I am sure some of our older members will remember him. His style is like a very refined version of Hendrix

I stumbled across a Forum dedicated to him and he is actually a Mod there and participates fairly actively. Has a great question and answer section also so check it out. Well thought out site and very informative

http://www.mahoganyrush.com/phpBB/index.php

I emailed him and mentioned our Forum and invited him to come check it out. I would like to see him add to our tech section

Would also love to see him pick up a Caddy or EVO

does anybody know any sets for the knobs to get a good metal sound? line 6 says they have presets for the 15w. I'm not talking about the computer presets for the 75w and up. one guy said he found the knob presets but that you have to dig through the site, and i can't find any. if anybody has and good knobs presets, please tell me them.

heres the knobs:

Stupid cheap cables...
by minted_cow on Thu Jun 14, 2007 1:26 am
I just bought a new wah pedal, Cry Baby from Hell, and plugged a cheap cable from that to the amp. Nothing would come out of the amp so I tested and tested and tested to see what the problem was. About an hour later and plugged the guitar to cheap cable to amp and received an ear piercing squeal. Mad So now I can't test the new wah because I only have one good cable. Crying or Very sad

I'm only buying good quality cables from now on. Rolling Eyes Any recommendations?

What I'd like to see....
by The Furious One on Thu Jun 14, 2007 7:08 am
I'd like to see some import Hardtails and Solteros in lefty. I've been into shredder guitars most of my natural guitar playing life and now I've been looking for other things.

When it comes to fix bridged guitars we really get the shaft. The EVO select looks like a nice guitar and I'll probably buy one soon. But I'd really like a Hardtail or Soltero import.

might get rid of a couple guitars
by rridner on Thu Jun 14, 2007 7:10 pm
I have a BC Rich Bronze Series Warlock that I have had for quite some time. It's nothing special, that is for sure. The only good thing about it, being the Seymour Duncan PUPs that I put in it a while ago. This was one of my first guitars, but I might hock it to put cash towards the MLFs I have coming to me. The place I go to will give me $75 for it, probably less if it didn't have the SDs in it. I was hoping to at least get $100 for it, but that might be unrealistic - considering I paid like $200 for it NEW - which was quite some time ago. I also have a regular-ass Yamaha acoustic that I might give up towards the cause as well. This is the only acoustic I have ever had and honeslty, I don't play it all that much. I am not a big acousitc player. I can only get $65 for this one, even though it is flawless - just a bit dusty Laughing

Here is my dillema: part of me says "go for it - get the Deans!". The other part me is all "Should I do this? Will I miss these when they are gone?"

I hate situations such as this....

i fyou could have your own custom guitar built from scratch for you or based on an existing model what would you do to it?

i would take a dean ml and have it built with

28 frets
seymour duncan dimebucker in bridge
emg 85 in neck
Kahler Hybrid Tremolo or a OFR with locking nut
white paint job with red blood splaters on the spikes near the bridge (looks as if its been stabbed through someone)
and to top ir all off all the hardware in gold

Roman Guitars Closing

(Port Washington, NY - June 14, 2007) Las Vegas-based Ed Roman Guitars, known as “The World’s Largest Guitar Store,” began liquidating its assets on June 13. This comes six months after Roman sold the business to a company operating area car dealerships. According to Roman, nine employees were let go in May, followed by 13 more on June 13. Roman believes a car dealership will replace his store, due to the potential for more profits.

“I want everyone to know I’ll be back and everything will be made whole,” said Roman. “I am in the process of buying my name back. I didn’t sign any non-compete clause, so I hope to reopen a store, although it won’t be as large as my last one.”

Dean V Coustic Review & Photos
by slimebagSkylar on Sat Jun 16, 2007 2:45 am
Well i got it and had some playing time and its pretty sweet!

The neck feels like any other acoustic, nice and beefy like a dean c neck should. Its a bit thinner than i thought it would be. It sounds great and is plenty loud and I think it would hold its own next to a regular acoustic. Sounds great plugged into my line 6 practice amp as well. Came with a rad v case too...Overall a great acoustic guitar!

Thanks to BRG for the hook up!

Baby DFH arrived today...
by atarilovesyou on Sat Jun 16, 2007 3:45 am
....remember when Music123 was liquidating it's Baby DFH MLs back a few months ago?....the package with the lil amp, the hat, the picks?

...well I ordered it and it's been at a friends place till NOW, and I finally have it!

...and WOW.....lol, just kiddin...here's my 'review'

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR......but I'm sure glad I knew what I was getting, boy!...at the price I paid (100USD) back then, I'm satisfied. This baby needs, and is getting, a MAKEOVER....replacing the tuning head with the chrome Grovers off my 79 MLF, and the BnB's from that same guitar. I'm still pretty impressed with the stock pickups though!

The poster is cool...the hat would have been cool if it had a good shape....it looks good on the shelf, though!

The strap...well it does the job. I ain't puttin' straplocks into this, that's for sure!...the picks?...pretty crappy, then again...they've got DEAN on em, so that makes em cool.

....the guitar is in DIRE need of setup....but the paint job is good. The thing buzzes to high hell, I'll get it going though...and I'll post some fun pics.

I saved the best for last.
That crummy 'amp' they include with it. WOW is it turd!....I gave it away to a noob up the hall, and even HE can tell it's crap. The only usable tone is verrry quiet, on the 'clean' setting so as to use it for scale practice or something....even the 'Dean Wings' logo can't save this peice!!....wow does it suck!

lol....other than that I'm a PLEASED man. Cool

Can someone (please) point me to an SKB or other brand of flight case that will fit my Cadillac?

how do you go about getting a job as a guitar tech? i THINK i could do everything required to be one, but i don't know how to go about it.

i can wire guitar electronics, set up a floyd, tune, test cables, make beer runs, handle excess groupies, and i could probably learn the songs in case i had to fill in due to injuries.

Lessons
by Inf3rno on Sat Jun 16, 2007 9:06 am
I have a question for you guys. I've been playing for about 3 years now and have been going to the same teacher except for the fact that i took a 2 year break from lessons (I still kept on playing though). Im in Houston, TX and just realized I have a legend practically living in my backyard... Rusty Cooley! I was pretty surprised to find out he lived here and even more psyched when I found out he gives lessons. So I decided I wanted to go get a few lessons from him since I didnt want to abandon my current teacher due to my loyalty to him. Do yall have any idea what I could go to Rusty for?

Btw, I cannot sweep pick to save my life and was thinking I should go for help with sweep picking but I dont know if that would seem awkward Question

Vox AD30VT

I just got a Vox AD30VT, a little 30 watt combo amp, as a graduation present, and I could not be happier. This little bastard really kicks some ass. For such a small amp, it really packs one hell of a punch, and it sounds great. The amp modeling sounds really good, and the built-in effects are great. All in all, definitely worth the money.

Cool(imo) idea for a dean!
by * on Sun Jun 17, 2007 12:59 am
okay, so those fender OCC (i think it was fender, maybe it was OLP) and fender So cal Speed shop guitars seemed pretty cool. i really wanted to get the So cal speed shop strat just for decoration.

anyway. i was thinking what if dean did a cool guitar for a famous hot rod land mark. like a von dutch dean v with some sweet pinstriping graphic, or an Ed Roth Ratfink ML or something? i think that would be really cool, and draw some attention to dean from a different crowd(maybe not actual guitarists, but even just people who collect that certain memorabilia). i think it would be awesome to see a dean v headstock with a pinstripe crest. Twisted Evil .

I don't think i have ever seen a west coast choppers guitar. i bet that would sell like hotcakes.

Hi guys,

I just finished helping a very good friend and musician. (also a member on this board and owner of a slime razorback)

We would really apreciate some feedback as we are going to add bass and vocals, first we just wanna know what you guys think.

For now the keyboards are midi and the drums were done in Acoustica Beatcraft wich will also be replaces with real tracks.

So if you could take some time to listen to the first song "Animation" and let us know what you think, positive or negative it all helps.

Also if you like what you hear please add the band!! There is much more coming.

Thanks,

Was disappointed with the caddy
by scott58 on Sun Jun 17, 2007 12:13 pm
Went and checked out the caddy reissue (2 pickup). The tone just wasn't there for me. Tried it with several amps From $2000 marshalls to $175 crates and just couldn't get my ears around the sound. The body was actually smaller then my Icon which I didn't expect. So I'm like now what? I've never been a big fan of the V body, but they had a few and I give them a try. The big surprise was a Black Gold V (several hundred $$ more then the caddy). I plugged that thing into a cheapy Fender frontman and the sound was very impressive. Clean and silky smooth tones. Problem is i'm looking for more of a blues style sound because that's what most of my buddies are playing, but my ear loves the 80's metal sound and the black gold V was right up my alley. I just don't want to spend almost a grand on something that i'd just be playing for me in my den (well at least i don't think so). What Dean is comparable to a tele or just more blues orientated? Or is there another amp setup that would give my Icon a better blues tone? Thanks

How do you progress to playing fast solos?
by Serbusfish on Sun Jun 17, 2007 11:18 pm

anyhoo how do you go about progressing to faster stuff? i use guitar pro to learn songs and i basically play through the songs, see how they go, and mimic on my guitar, but with super fasts solos I cant keep up, when it starts going diddly diddly diddily waaahhhh, da di diddly diddly diddly whhhooooooo etc etc etc im lost

It dosnt look great but i just did it for fun. i wasnt sure how to paint it so i did the EVH design. As you can see its not done yet, but ill probably get some EMG's to put in it. here is how it is now.

This is right after the paint dried. i just put the neck back on a couple minutes ago but ill post pics of all that when the guitars done.

jumbo frets? why?!?!?
by funkify on Mon Jun 18, 2007 11:58 am
Ok, so I was in a music store the other day, this store didn't have Deans, but they had plenty of ESPs. All the ESPs have jumbo frets, and wow, can I say how much I hated them? Completely prevented me from doing slides, and just generally got in my way.

I have seen plenty of players say that they insist on having jumbo frets. Can someone enlighten me as to why big fat frets would be a good thing? Because I'm just not feelin it.

My latest Stratocaster
by Lon on Mon Jun 18, 2007 1:42 pm
My wife let me buy this with some of our wedding money. Gotta love that! Got it for cheap at the GC Memorial Day sale. I've changed the pickguard for a gold aluminum one and modded the wiring adding a tone control for the bridge pickup. I also used 0000 steel wool on the back of the neck to make it baby smooth. All I have left is to block the trem and I'm done. Plays as good as she looks!

The "Total BS" guitar
by Blazer on Mon Jun 18, 2007 1:50 pm
A few years ago I stumbled across a piece of Pine which used to be the table of a bar and I made three bodies from it, Lately the first of those three had fallen into disrepair so I decided to fix it up a little.

Image
The guitar as it was before I fixed it up, it had a 3/4 size strat neck and a sole Neck humbucker.

Image
The guitar as it is now, I prepped it for a Tune-o-matic bridge, routed it out for three humbuckers and a full scale strat neck.

As for the "Statement" a friend of mine once told me that all those statements made by stickers on guitars are actually a all "Total BS" and that inspired me to put that line on this guitar.

Need Some Comparison Help W/ Amps

Wassup Guys,

Need a lil bit of help, I know virtually everybody here likes Metal Amps, but I really wanna get a Marshall, I'm Finding it really hard to choose between A Marshall AVT50X and an MG50DFX, anybody here got either and could recomend them to me?

Thanks a Bunch =)

Bunch o' thanx for some cool members...

Thanx to:

Eddie Carlino: When you absolutely, positively have to have a USA RIGHT NOW - he's the man. I was looking into some lighter model Deans lately, and he went out of his way to get me information; he even threw one on a scale to help with my dilemma!!!

Metal Monkey: Man - your contribution to the forum needs to be recognized. I have used your renderings to make design decisions as well as submit for custom quotes. Specifically your recent work REALLY paved the way for a future custom and your images will be traveling along with the order. If there were an M.ost V.aluable M.ember award, I would nominate you immediately!

Steve Parnell - BRG - Limited editions, USA, Custom, Luna, I have bought them all through BRG. Time and time again, an addictive pleasure with each sale ending with another!!!! From squishing into a jeep to hang out with us to scoring an axe out of the shadows of HQ - You're a gem Steve!!!!

Alright, the ML shape does indeed rule
by JeffreyRyanSmoots on Tue Jun 19, 2007 4:33 am
I was at Guitar Center this week, and noticed a Dean ML up on the wall. It was an import, the Dean from Hell CFH. I'm embarrassed to admit I've never played an ML.

What a guitar!

After 20 minutes or so, I got up, walked over to the other wall and grabbed a USA PRS. Just wanted to make a quick comparison.

After about 3 minutes with the PRS, I had to put it back on the wall.

I think I might need an ML for my collection. I can see now why Dime loved them. The shape and balance are just about perfect.

This poor Dean ML had surely been beaten upon by an uncountable number of kids, and it still played like a champ. That to me speaks volumes about the build quality, the fit and finish, and the durability of the guitar.

So I'm happy to say that Dime's guitar has made me an ML convert.

1995 Dean Zelinsky Interview
by Nickelbag Noah on Tue Jun 19, 2007 7:41 am
I was looking through threads from over a year ago and I found this. It is a great interview with Dean. There is also something in there most of you probably didn't know, The ML was named after Dean's best friend in highschool, Matt Lynn (Rest In Peace), he past away when he was 16. I knew that before I read this because I personally asked Dean at D.O.A., anyway I thought this was cool to read.

Guitars You Wish You Would Have Kept
by deathgrind on Tue Jun 19, 2007 8:29 pm
For me it was an Ernie Ball Luke I snagged brand new at Guitar Center for 500 bucks. The original selling price was 1800 but they actually had a real sale (not just say they have a sale and sell shite for the same price). It was black metal flake with matching headstock, an EMG 81 in the bridge and two single coils, and an amazingly figured birdseye maple neck with a satin finish. Man that thing played and sounded so damn good it was rediculous! It even came with an ernie ball hardshell case! Miss it sooooo much...

5150(6505) (Plain) vs. 5150II(6505+) (EQ, etc)
by njspeedbeast on Thu Jun 21, 2007 1:50 am
Is there a tone difference between the 5150 and the 5150II?

I know the II adds an eq and another tube?

If my memory serves me right.

I love the tone of the 6505+, but I found a plain 5150 head for $500.

Will I see a tone difference between the two?
Batio in Louisville,KY
by JammerML on Thu Jun 21, 2007 3:25 am
Michael Angelo Batio played a clinic here tonight, as always he just blew the audience away. Awesome show, and a great learning experience for sure.

After a few minutes of technical rpoblems with the monitors, everything went incredibly smooth....his cover of Crazy Train/Mr Crowley was just a crowd crusher, and Nuclear Blues just made head brain run out me left ear screaming.

This guy is a true guitar god. pure and simple. It was amazing to get to chat with a personal hero like Mr. Batio. He took a minute to ask what I was doing, and when I told him I was mainly recording for myself, he asked what tools I was using and took the time to snap a pic.

Image
The guy is just as nice as can be, and took plenty of time to sign autographs, and talk to each and every one of us that stuck around....[/img]

B.C. Rich vs Moser vs Rico Jr.
by Warlock_340 on Sat Jun 23, 2007 1:40 am
This is harder for me. It's defiantly not Rico Jr, even though the Vixen and Hellicon are both some serious bad ass guitars. It's mainly a tie between Moser and Rich. The only B.C. Rich shapes I really like are the Warlock, Mocking Bird, V, Widow and Bich, but those are really nice geets. Moser has some awesome guitars too though. If you want pointy stuff go to him, that's for sure. The spawn is a kick ass body, and I must say that PPV has a real nice one. Too bad it was discontinued, but B.C. Rich has the Beast, which is the same thing. But, Moser also has some stuff that I don't like too much. Like I think the BVi looks ok, but the bottom of the points is just creepy and weird. Then the FSi just looks like it's points could break off any second. However, they more than make up for it with the MVi and AUi, and some of their other designs.

So for me it's a tie between Rich and Moser. Plus I have a Warlock so... but it's still a tie.

This would make the BVi much better, IMO.

Wink i will update this through the day as to who is nominated. just think of somebody whose definitely helped you while you were on here.thanks for helping out the forum.

New or Old Album suggestion.
by Exit13 on Sat Jun 23, 2007 11:35 pm
I was just snooping around i-toons and was racking my feeble brain for something new to listen to. Couldn't come up with anything so I'm hoping someone here might help me remember a great maybe obscure album that I have forgotten about or a great new one with top notch guitar. I like just about all types of music although I'll skip the cookie monster vocals this time around. So let's here 'em and thanks in advance.

new guitar day(esp)
by zao on Sun Jun 24, 2007 2:22 am
i dont know where to start, this thing looks, sounds and plays awsome. george lynch model esp GL-56.
esp really did a nice job on these guitars and they are a great guitar for the money. they really relic'ed it and beat it up, theres a cigarette burn on the headstock, the pickup cover is really tarnished, its chipped, scraped, scratched, worn, sanded and rusted.

the pearly gates sounds really nice in the bridge and it really matched up good with this guitar, i tried one in the bridge of a les paul and hated it but this guitar sounds 100% better, its not light but feels really solid, the fret work is excellent and the neck shape feels good, its a thinner neck than the other lynch models and its not as wide either. its really easy to play and feels smooth. and this guitar is really resonate, when you play a note or strum a chrord the guitar really holds it notes and you can feel the string vibration up the neck. ive owned a 56 custom shop strat and a 60 and neither of them played or sounded as good as this guitar. the single coils sound really good in the neck and middle positions, its got a 5 way but i personally like the neck and bridge tones the best. classic rock, heavy rock, country, blues, or metal can be played on this guitar and sound good. its got a alder body and maple neck which is my fav woods for this type of guitar. locking tuners were a nice touch also.
im really happy with it and i plamn on keeping it a long time.
its a keeper along with alot of my other guitars, i dont sell guitars all the time like i do amps, i only have a couple that i use to try out other guitars once and a while then sell to try something else, but this is going to be with my others that i dont sell. i bought it from pharoah at world of string and he gave me a great price and threw in some free stuff too, so far hes the best of all the esp dealers i bought from ove the years.
sorry if it wasnt more detailed.

Just a quick one to say "Thanks Folks" to the fine people in the parts department at Dean H.Q.'s. Especially Scott and Bill. I broke the tremolo on my favorite Icon and they hunted the needed parts down and are getting them to me in my time of need. I appreciate it VERY MUCH! Elliott has assembled himself one fine team, down there. Salute! Very Happy
How did you get into Dean Guitars?
by Benthic_Pig on Sun Jun 24, 2007 7:14 pm
hey,

I was just wondering how people came across dean guitars (and ill try to start a thread that isnt moaning about lack of imports).

Most folks think that since i like Dimebag, i got into the ML thru him, but nah, i saw one by chance on google and loved the shape - for me, that was THE shape to have a guitar in.

After months of ebay searching, i finally came across a lefty ML custom from the US going for $999. Much hard graft later, i owned the guitar, and my god, it is awesome. That started me on the Dean appreciation bigtime.

Now ive just ordered a custom RB. I cant wait, it'll be my 2nd Dean, and man, im drooling at the thought of playing it. The prospect of owning an ebony neck is awesome aswell, ive dreamed about playing on one after trying my mates' right handed jackson Rhoads V with one - its like as smooth as glass, so awesome.

I was just wondering how everyone else found Dean guitars - i mean, a few years back they were pretty unheard of to me and my mates, and it seemed like they were unknown in the UK pretty much (still are tbh).

It'll also be interesting as in terms of left handed models on offer in most stores, i find people end up with ibanez gio's and epiphone les paul copies, so you could easily miss the deans...
Is my floyd breaking?
by Mr. Fraggle Stick on Sun Jun 24, 2007 7:22 pm
im playing my DFH import right now and i just noticed that the piece u stick the bar in is loosening ALOT. when i bought it it would just move the actual floyd to do wat i want it to do. now when i push or pull on it it moves the piece u insert the bar only. is this bad? could my floyd break? can i fix this by getting an OFR bar?

* and sorry im a floyd noob* ( i do know how to change teh strings tho! Very Happy )

thanx guys.

Non Bias pup recomendations?
by Warlock_340 on Mon Jun 25, 2007 2:02 am
Well, I have to say, sooner or later I should change my pups. I don't quite know the low down on them, so I could use some recommendations.

I'm looking for a good Bridge/neck pup combo that has very clean sound, I don't care much at all to have anything muddy sounding, but I still want to be able to do nice metal riffs. Any suggestions?

Idea about power attentuators....
by minimimaniac on Mon Jun 25, 2007 12:11 pm
Powerbrakes and hotplates are expensive, so why not just use a Boss GE-7 and put it at the end of your signal chain in the loop, then cut the level down? That theoratically will allow you to crank it up without making your ears bleed to get a sweet tone!

Would it work?

The Perfect Strat (NDC) !!
by I M Evil on Mon Jun 25, 2007 7:34 pm
I've fallen in love with 60's/70's rockmusic,
particular Scorpions(Roth-era) and now I'm
considering building one of those "spaceships"
as a certain someone described the strat some time ago.

But what specs would I be looking at ?

Should I use Alder for the body? or maybe even Ash?
... oooorrr .... possiblyyy ... Maple ala George Lynch ?

As it's a strat, 3 singlecoils seems kinda' obvious,
which would sounds best with the bodywoods described above ?
I'm going for a fairly clean strat tone, but with a crunch Smile

I do have a guitar with a Floyd already, so on this one,
I'm leaving the trem out, focusing more on my vibrato Cool

all opinions are valuable Very Happy

thanks.

The most evil villian in movies.
by Blazer on Mon Jun 25, 2007 11:58 pm
Let's talk about who you think is the most wicked villian ever to appear on the big screen.

I'll start with Bijomaru Mogami from the Japanese samurai action movie "Azumi". I highly recommand everybody who loves movies like "The Matrix" to watch this one.
Image
Bijomaru is a samurai warrior who mixes terrying skill with vanity, he dresses in all white, always carries a rose and moves as swifty as lightning, his sword doesn't have a hand protector because he doesn't need to defend himself.

So why do I think of him as the most wicked Villian ever?
First of all, Bijomaru sees death as something beautiful, he doesn't strike his opponents to kill them, only to wound them, revelling in the suffering he causes by doing so. The more his victim suffers before he dies the better. He breaks the first rule of the samurai, that honor is more important than life itself. I guess this scene from "Azumi" (the first in which Bijomaru appears) says enough. I guess I should warn in advance that this scene is *ahem* somewhat bloody.

Re-discovering my Strat
by Blazer on Tue Jun 26, 2007 12:56 am
For the last ten years I played humbucker guitars exclusively, using both of my Les Pauls and my heavily modified Tele as my main stage guitars. I also played Solid State amps exclusively because of their durability and sharp tone.

But lately I have had a revelation and after my Marshall MG100 top died, I decided to get myself something serious. So I bought myself a London City "Bulldog" amp head.
Image

The Bulldog is an all tube copy of a Marshall JCM 900. Made for the dutch market only. And it sounds just brutal.

But what I also found out is that my old 1989 Squier Strat "the veteran" sounds better than I ever remembered it sounding before. Through the Bulldog my strat sounds just as growly as meanacing as my Les Paul, the hum and "spike" betraying it's a single coil pickup but I never thought I'd get my Old strat to sound that good. Finally an amp that doesn't make my strat sound all tinny and liveless.
Image

Right now I'm working this sound into my band, it works miracles when used in conjunction with our second guitarist' Ibanez Universe seven string.
Blues tone
by Alex! on Tue Jun 26, 2007 1:30 am
How do you guys like your tone for blues? For playing and listening I love a really gritty, dirty, overdriven tone, almost pushed to the breaking point.

I have a 1 watt Marshall MS-4 solid state amp (one of those tiny "full stacks") and with the volume up full and the gain on 2 it gets a great tone on the neck pickup.

USA DEANS
by Jalapeno on Tue Jun 26, 2007 3:49 am
I went to guitar center today to pick up some strings and they actually had a USA Redwood Hardtail in the store used for $2600

I jammed on it for awhile and am Convinced that I NEED a USA dean.

I have a Razorback two tone and a CFH right now and I'll tell ya, the price difference between the imports and the USAs are that much for a reason. I used to doubt that the USA guitars were worth the several Gs they run for, but now I know better

hail dean!
How exactly...
by Hot Sauce on Tue Jun 26, 2007 5:56 am
Does one go about doing the coil tap thingy on the Hardtail Select?

Pull up the knob?

My Schecter has the coil tap thing but i'm not sure how it works on different guitars.
Advice on FR's

I'm planning on, in the near future buying my second guitar, a Dean ML 79. I've just recently been thinking about buying an MLF for harmonic squeals and what not. I assume you need a floating Floyd Rose for this, does a 79 MLF have a floating Floyd Rose?

So does anyone have any advice or tips or suggestions etc. for first time Floyd Rose users?

You've got time to grab one guitar
by jim6 on Tue Jun 26, 2007 5:25 pm
In response to Armitage's challenge to offer up information or topics for discussion........

Your apartment or home is on fire. Everyone is out safely and you've got enough time to grab one guitar.

Only one.

Which one is it?

It has to be a guitar that you currently have in your possession. Which one do you grab and what are your reasons for choosing it over the other or others?

Jim

ps......it doesn't have to be a Dean, by the way
