I saw this video on Headbanger's Ball the other night after Mastodon's Sleeping Giant and I have to say, I really hear something I like about this band. Sure, the video is cheesy and over-theatrical, but I really dig this song.

Lets hear it from the Mastodon fans:
"Dean Z, we want these guys playing Silverburst V's and Black Z's! hey, maybe even silverburst Solteros!"

Jeeezus, i thought they were supposed to be only 2 watts, it's like a smurf holding a magnum.
I think it's time ...
for me ...
to get another guitar
I've chosen between a '79 ML and an Epi LP of somekind
and I thought that .. hey, a Dean is still a Dean,
an Epiphone is no Gibson
Anyway, I already own a Vendetta 2.0 that has a
neck I really dig, so I wonder ...
How does the Vendetta neck compare to the '79 necks ?
Thanks
well almost, just have to put on a clear coat and put it back together... Will post PRON soon.

A weight bar just fell on my first guitar. It wasnt a great guitar, just an Esteban, but it meant a hell of alot to me.....its demolished....
That last one is the worst to me.....the action was super low before, and now the neck is bent so far that its literally an inch off the fretboard.....
Neck update...EVH cigarbox guitar.
August 5th:
well i have the neck all cut out. the neck is made out of hickory, which is a very hard wood, so its gonna take me quite a long time to sand it down. the wood is very sturdy, its built like a rock. aside from other things, the piece of hickory, smells amazing, just like the inside of the cigarbox, the guitar, will end up smelling amazing, which is very weird. anyways back on topic, i've decided not to finish back back of the neck, because thats the way EVH has his done, its just bare wood. of course, i am going to sand the whole thing, and shape the back into a v neck shape. the head will be sanded, and painted black, with some clearcoat. don't worry dean i won't be stealing your logo. so heres just a rough picture of it, WAAAYYYY more to come, i'll keep you guys posted.
August 1st:
heres the long awaited finish:
Front

Right Side
July 31st:
for all those who have kept up with my EVH Cigarbox Guitar post, i got some news for you. it fell and shattered into a billion pieces...
just kidding.
i've spent the last 3 hours taping it up, cutting and taping, cutting and taping, and cutting, and somemore taping. but damn its worth it. definetly.
i just hit it with some red paint a couple minutes ago, i'm gonna let it dry tonight, hit it with another 2 red coats tomorrow morning, and a clear coat at lunch. so check out this thread, tomorrow at noon, cause it will be all finished. thanks for checking this out all the guys that know whats going on with it.
the black and white stripes are already done.
man i can't wait till tomorrow, and get to pull the tape off this thing, its freaking awesome.
Ever bought or shipped a guitar in August? Does the excessive heat in a truck/trailor effect it adversely? How hot is too hot?
The reason I ask- I'm thinking about buying a geet, needs to be shipped, probably 3-4 days. It's mid 90s here, high humidity... I've unloaded trailors in the summer, it's like a sauna, no air moving at all. It's like getting in your car after it's baked in the sun for 8 hours.
Had a buddy in HS(long time ago) that left his guitar out in summer, in the case, in the sun for about 5-6 hours. Black case. When he opened it, there were beads of moisture on the neck & fretboard. The neck had warped/twisted, bad enough you could actually see it from a few feet away. Ever since then I've been paraniod about heat with my guitars.
Anyone else had a problem? Should I wait to buy(then it probably won't be there), or just do it now? Am I excessively paranoid, or just an idiot? Or both

6 string to 7
by Steve S on Thu Aug 02, 2007 4:10 am
Is it a difficult transition? I have always been curious
Just sat down with an Ibanez bass...
And I could play bass very well, in my opinion. I can do the first 30 seconds of Cliff Burton's Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) solo, and I can do some slap techniques and pluck fairly well.
Does this come with playing guitar? I never have really sat down with a bass and tried to do anything...I learned Cliff's solo on guitar, so that's how I knew how to do that. Slapping and plucking however, I could do fairly well for being a total bass n00b.
I may look into getting a bass one of these days. I might buy my friend's Excel and his Roland Cube 30w bass combo...he never plays them at all.
Select Vs. 79

i've got a big dilema.
i'm torn between 3 guitars
ML Select, matching HS
Caddy Select Silverburst
or 79 z cherry burst
i'm not sure if this is even made lefty, but a pretty (very, actually) trusted site said they had them available
i guess, which one is highest quality?
COOL FINGERPICKING -Jerry Donahue-
A friend at work gave me a CD called 'Return of the Hellecasters' the other day to listen to. I couldn't believe my ears when I heard how great these guys play. A mix of country, blues and jazz. Just brilliant!
So, I got to doing some searching and found one of the members, Jerry Donahue's, interview on Youtube.
I was blown away by his playing style and technique.
If you're a noob like me and don't know much about these guys or Jerry, then you must check out this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJaSZxZJFV0

New Amp(sort of) plus NDC EVH Project pron 56k warning
by Bullet on Thu Aug 02, 2007 9:34 pm
I'm pretty sure I got this in the right place.
Well I sort of got a new amp today. My mom works at a pawn shop, and someone sold this to them, and well I got it for $99 plus tax, not to bad of a deal. Nothing to special here. All of my guitars, except for the Strat, Tele, and ML came from the Pawn shop my mom works at. Other than that I've order them. All of my pedals, but the Wah, and Whammy I've ordered as well.
I got the Marshall MG100HDFX today, since my Crate G-600 finally gave out, I tried to fix, but couldn't, and then the Crate Powerblock sounds like s#%t imo. Then at the bottom, is a Squire amp which was my first amp. It came with the Strat a few pics below.
Also I'm saving up for either a 30th Anniversary ML, or ML '79 if you could post your opinions on them, that would be great.
Here is all my various guitars. It pains me to put Stickers on my ML, but my nephew took a screwdriver to the paint, before I got wall hangers.
(Sorry about the shitty camera flash, it looks a lot better in person.)
The ML-X
SG-310 & SG-400
My Squire bass, and Strat(I'll eventually buy new strings for it, if I ever decide to play it again)
My Squire Tele(Same goes this about the lack of stirngs)
My Rouge 12 string(It is pretty good for only $50)
Here an acoustic I don't know what brand though, my Grandpa repainted. I'll eventually get around, to buying tuning keys, and strings for it.
All my various pedals, I've gotten from my Mom's work.(Except for the NS-2, and the Metal Muff)
Finally the project pron mentioned. My Frankenstrat I don't know the brand, but I was able to get it for free, as they where going to throw it away at my Mom's work. It used to Baby Blue. This took me about 3 days, a s#%t load of masking tape and spray paint. I've put it back together re-strung, and tried to play, but the neck is pretty warped, and it is unplayable. So it will just hang there any look cool.

the most expensive body is a 40 dollar les paul.
they're probably made out of pressed cardboard, but the most you'll be out is 25 bucks, right?
September issue of Guitar World
When paul was auditioning the Valveking, he was calling the Model a VX 212! Seriously how below 70 IQ type can you get ? "V"alve "K"ing = VK? maybe he's retarded
So...uh...did anyone go? Pictures?
I believe Dean did not have a booth there this year. Is this why we haven't seen any forum buzz?
pickups
by 333 on Thu Aug 02, 2007 11:53 pm
can somone list some pickups that have been sold in dean guitars?
n maybe the different inlays aswell plz???
if u can only list one its a real help guys
thanks

I was restringing and cleaning my '79 ML today, and I noticed that one of the inlays at the 12th fret sunk into the fretboard a little. Not noticable enough to see, but enough to make it noticable if you run your finger across that part of the fretboard. This is the second import guitar that I've had this happen to (this also happened at the 24th fret of my Washburn). Has anyone else had this problem? Is there an easy way to fix this?
7 string Deans (w00t!!) and more questions
I'm thinking about switching to 7 strings and OBVIOUSLY, Dean is the only way to go!
So far, all i've found is a Vendetta 1.7 and a Razorback 7(help!)
If anybody could give me advice on which one to get , and all of the different 7 string Deans.
I don't know if i'm switching to 7 strings, though as i've even considered switching to 8 string guitars, but my intrest seems to fade after about a month of saving. Being 13, I dont have very much money coming into my wallet.
Also, this Christmas, I'll be able to spend about $600 on guitars, amps, etc. next and the year after, i'll be able to afford $1000, then the year after next, $1300. I need some advice on how to get the most quality out of my money. THis year, i'm thinking of getting a Dean MLXM and a Crate Flexwave HalfStack.
Just anybody suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreciated.
!!!!!!Guitar playing vids. of me.!!!and White Razorback Q's
Just giving a heads up about when I get a camera i'll put some vids up on the forum. =p. Also, is there a definite list price on Heafy's White and Gold Razorback?
Yay! Microcube!
by MZDA on Fri Aug 03, 2007 3:04 am
Yep, got a microcube.
The guy I got it from did a shitty packing job, he used plastic bags
And he put the AC adapter on the bottom of the box which results in this..
What should I do about this. I'm a n00b to ebay when it comes to something like that. Should I file a claim? The amp works fine, and I contacted him about the adapter..
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
On to the amp..
Great frackin' sounds. The effects are over the top, and some of the amp modeling is lame, but the recto, acoustic and the black panel are killer.
[/img]
I think that's what it's called...
It's a 2x12 combo. It looked SOMEWHAT old, but not that bad old. Anybody know anything about this amp (if you've heard of it and if i've got the name of it correct?)
I'll go take some pictures of it tomorrow.
Trace Elliot Super Tramp Twin Stereo Quad Chorus Amp
Along with the Marshall I posted about, i'll be in the market for this thing within a week. Sooo...
How is it?
I'm reading reviews on Harmony Central at the moment and they seem to be pretty darn good.
Cosmetically, it's not in the very best of shape...a knob missing, rubber torn off of the handle...
But these things can be fixed, right?
The final modifications to Heafy's guitar is making the guitar bigger and the bottom left horn longer...making it look almost just like a Washy Stealth?
Excuse me if I missed something..this is a spur of the moment post.
Homebuilt Guitar Project!.!.!.!.!.!
Ok, here's the schizzle on the topic. It's a guitar being built mostly from scratch by Ben(me) And Jordan (XvxBigPappaxvX). I came up with the design and Jordan came up with the funds. We call it the Scarab, if we get to build a few for people we will call the company Hellion. Hellion Scarab.....doesn't sound bad eh?
Ok for a while we've been scrounging for parts. We have everything we need now. So we started on it.
Some pron:
Hunk 'o Alder

Template+sharpie=outline!!!
Scroll Sawage...lol
Me with the basic cut-out.
Jordan sanding the edges with a drum sander.
Fugly......lol
That's where we are so far. We need to get the body routed for the puckups, control cavities, Floyd, and beveled edges (SG style).
The guitar will have the following on it:
22 fret bolt on neck with sharkfin inlays.
Alder body
H-H configuration
EMG-HZ-H4 in the neck (Thanks Nailspine!)
Seymour Duncan Screamin Demon in the bridge position (Thanks Ghastly Ghost!)
LFR
Pics of all the other parts in a day or so!

sustainer system for ML.
by * on Fri Aug 03, 2007 8:28 am
anyone know of a sustainer system that would work with the ML that wouldn't require routing?
Nigel: The sustain...listen to it...
Marty: I'm not hearing anything.
Nigel: You would, though, if it were playing, because it really ... it's famous for its sustain...I mean, you could, just hold it....
Marty: Well I mean so you don't....
Nigel: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaa.... You could go and have a bite an'...aaaaaaaaa...you'd still be hearin' that one.

question about an amp trade
ok i have an offer from someone to trade me a bogner uberschall blue revision (the newest revision)
for my splawn quickrod.
I love the quickrod and it was handmade to my specs but i find myself playing my krank rev head more and my boogie setup more...
also the bogner cost almost 800 more new than my splawn..
does anyone here have any experience with the uberschall?
i have played thru Rusty Cooley's and loved it but that was a while back too.....
Anyone have Dimeslime Razorback 255 pics?
He everyone I found this site and thought it was very interesting. The young guys on this forum may not like it (no heavy metal that I saw in my quick stay), but some of the older members might. I watched the rehearsal for "The New Cars" and Tom Petty. Stayed on the site for about an 1/2 hour and really liked it.
If this has been posted before forgive me (I know I will get destroyed anyway if it was previously posted). Many different artists are represented here. Enjoy.

Do you do those photoshops for people in this forum????? like Cadzilla and That red slime razorback are awesome!! Could you do something like that for me???
I know that this has been talked about before but i just want some info on it. am i right in thinking that its a vst instrument or does it actually contain drumbeats? also if i was to get it what do i need to buy, as there is the drumkit from hell 2, the dhf ezdrummer and all this other shite. i just want the simple vst plugin if thats what it is

about a new guitar im getting sometime.
I was thinking about getting a cheap guitar, like a kramer vanguard with locking trem, and quad rail humbucker pickups for like 270 dollars. What pickups do you suggest for that crunchy metal sound? As of right now, all i got is a crappy washburn lyon guitar.
I've latley taken a bit of interest in picking up a 7 string in the not to distant future, and I was wondering if anybody knew if his signature would be available with any finished other then the graphic/paint job one that he has. I am not a bug fan of guitars with over the top paint jobs or graphics on them. Any help would be much appreciated. Also any other suggestions are welcome, preferably of the set neck variety, but if you feel really strongly about a bolt on then by all means share and I'll give it a look. Again thanks for any help.
looking into a guitar to save for.
I need to know what guitar has the greatest sound for metal, for around 1000 to 2000 dollars. I saw the inbanez s2170 prestige guitar for 1300 and it has great sound. Or should i just save up for a while and try to get a dime3 guitar? And also, they have boogiebolt flying v guitars for around 2700, so i just need to know what guitar for around the price range of 1-3k dollars, that i should save up for.
Is it just me or do these things look like hub caps? I'm afraid that if I left it unattended I would come back only to find that someone boosted my grill!!

Polished Frets on the '79.
We'll I got bored and decied to polish the frets on my Frankenstein '79. I straitened the neck and was about to level and crown when I decided I'm not that good with a Jewler's 3-sided file just yet , so I'll wait and get a diamond file from Stew-Mac.
First I taped off the fretboard.
I even taped off the sides.
With everything taped off I used very fine steel wool, starting from the 1st fret to last.
Since I also tapped off the sides I was able to smooth out the fret ends. I prob. spend 10 - 15 min. just rounding the ends.
Shiny frets before lemon oil
After I was done polishing I soaked some lemon oil in the frets ( took 3 coats )
I'f anyone wants to make their guitar play sooo much better I highly recomend this.
With the neck finaly strait and the fretwork done this is now so much better of a guitar.
Can't wait till I level and crown this baby.

Vinyl lp review of the week: Jag Panzer Tyrant ep
In an effort to expose more of our younger members to some killer older Metal, I thought I would review one lp (or ep) every week. Wih so much emphasis placed on newer music, seems like the stuff that influenced me most has almost been forgotten
This week, I selected a recent eBay acquisition; Jag Panzer's 1st release known in collector circles as the "Tyrant" ep. Also, our fellow member Mark can hopefully add some additional information like how many was probably produced, guitars, amps and effect units used
The lp was released in 1983 by the much maligned Azra label, a label notorious for poor management, promotion and distribution
4 tracks come on this: Battle Zones, Death Row, Metal Melts the Ice and Iron Shadows
Giving this a thorough listen again brings back the good old days. The production on this is very raw and that alone makes this great. Jag Panzer at their earliest! Of the 4 tracks, Battle Zones is my favorite featuring good guitar work and of course, Conklin's awesome vocals. At times, the mix seems to have spatial gaps and I for one would be very interested in what both guitar players used for rigs. I seem to hear a lot compression but low gain drive and chorus use but my ears were shot years ago from insane sound levels in small practice areas and even smaller venues
Some consider this (and Ample Destruction) as Jag's best releases and since I do not yet own all of their stuff, I have to agree. However, Mark was cool enough to send me a 7" with a cover song that still blows me away, "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald originally done by Gordon Lightfoot. It for all intents and purposes does the original infinite justice, very haunting and the production is impeccable. You have to hear the guitar solo, I am sure even Gordon would smile
If you are ever fortunate enough to pick up the Tyrant ep, GET IT!!! It is exceedingly rare and usually commands a good price in excellent condition
Mark, question for you...
I noticed in the runoff area of the vinyl, someone etched "Jo mamma" on one side and "Join Panzer Division" on the other side. Did you request this or did the producer add it as an afterthought?
Now, if I can just talk you guys into redoing The Eagles "Witchy Woman". That would crush all
Next week, we visit Wino and crew. Someone here will recognize that name I am sure
L8er Brothers!
Opinions on Dean Cadillacs (upper end)?
I know, I know. First post and I'm on the Dean board, so what should I expect to hear? But I have been lurking, and using the search engine, so I have *some* opinions, but still asking.
Interested in the Time Capsule, or any one of the higher end Caddy's (read some good things about the Czech ones as well). How versatile are they? I can see that alot of metal players here use them, but I'm in a variety band, and use alot of different tones. Are the pots high quality to clean up on volumes? Nice resonance on them? Are they TONEFUL. I need good cleans as well. Pushed Fender stuff, pretty much the full gamut. We play lots of heavier stuff as well, and I'm sure those are covered. From a purely visual standpoint, they really seem like a cut above the normal Gibson stuff (I am still a Les Paul fan.)
Or am I barking up the wrong tree and it's a high gain animal?
Opinions are valued. I'll look into prices once I decide.

Best Amps For Heavy Metal?

I know Marshall is a good brand, but are there other amps that beat Marshall in sound?
Recently, I've been really into Jeff Loomis's playing.
I just wanted to know what month/issue Jeff started his guitar column. I want to purchase some back issues, and I want to start from the beginning.
Any help would be good.

What is it about Dean guitars?
by scott58 on Sat Aug 04, 2007 3:33 pm
!8 months ago I didn't know squat about these guitars and once I heard my Icon it was love at first "noise". Now that I can play the thing fairly well I can't get enough of them. I got a wish list that just cracked the $7000 mark (yeah steve your fault for posting the pics of that red ML) I need a 12 step program!
it seems lately alot of people and bands have been going with 7 strings guitars, i smell a big trend starting where everyone will be a 7 string dude
not me though 6 is good enough
where i can i find a good metal amp head for under a grand, and possibly some sound clips from it? i want a thick chunky tone, but also clarity without getting too trebely... i dont know if that explains much, but its a ballpark, who has ideas?
Just wondering if anyone had this guitar and if it plays good and the floyd is ok. Pr0n would be awesome, too!
Dean Family Photo Time!! Plus mini review.
So I got to jam on the Shadow at practice today. I gotta say, the mystery blade pickup is pretty good. Not as much balls as the Invader, but it's definitely got some bit to it. Didn't notice a huge difference but there was one. I won't be rushing out to replace it though. The highs were crisp and clear, and the lows were chunky but not chunky enough for me. It's going to be the guitar I use for the standard tuning half our set since those are our thrashier songs anyway. It plays great, as expected. This is a shitty review. Anyway. PORN!
So I just got back from Ozzfest in SA,TX. We had to leave early cause the wife started to get a heat stroke. It was DAMN hot out there. A band pulled out and DevilDriver filled the spot. Both them and Hatebreed leveled the place. We left before the main stage started so I missed LOG. Kinda pissed but she was look'n bad and I've seen LOG many times .... so fukit. But there was a new band I've not heard of, The Showdown. Live they were awesome. Had the crowd goin crazy, did a little Metallica and a really nice Dime tribute with a little Cowboys and Walk. It was intese to say the least.I also pickup there CD while I was there ............ they are more of a live band . But both of the guitarists had Dean RB's. One had an Explosion V and the other had a Two-Tone RB ...... both with EMG's .
In this pic he has the stock PU's but the other guitarist had an ESP, but these were photo's I could find of one of them with a Dean. I wish I took a camera.
Hmm, so who knows
Maybe a new Dean Artist soon.
So ya'll like Lordi!!!!

Just Kidding...
just curious to know what everyone in the US thinks of our nations heroes (boy aren't we pathetic...).
I haven't really read anything good about them on the web, but the finnish press is telling us that their doing good on ozzfest...
that can't be true can it?
I don't have anything against them but I just think they're not the best thing Finland has to offer musically...
cause the music sucks and the image is what it is...
Just curious to know how differently finlands media and the US media cover the subject.

Ibanez? (NDC Quote...possibly)
DO NOT FLAME ME PLEASE (I love Ibanez...)
I've had serious GAS for this guitar (Ibanez RGT42DX) for about a year...I want to know if any dealers here carry them. I'm not asking for a direct quote from a dealer right now, I just want to know if any of them can get one and sell it to me.
Another reason I want a dealer here to chime in is because I want the pickups changed pre-shipment because I am clumsy and many times in the past I have burned myself with a soldering gun and really don't want to do it again.
Kthx
BTW, I didn't want to put this in the dealers section because I never get responded to when I post there.
Kthx again.
new amp day! PRON! *updated*
by Flames on Sun Aug 05, 2007 10:45 am
hey, just just got a new amp head off a dude who should be joining the forum shortly. It's a Randal Rh250:
THIS IS ONE KILLER SOLID STATE AMP HEAD! It's got some very good distortion and the crunch that cereal companies dream of, just a tiny bit squeaky on full but what amp isn't! and the reverb is to die for! It's normal distortion without the overdrive sounds really good unlike my Ashton's which sounds completely flat. From what i heard from Joseph, the dude who sold me it, when played his guitar with it, it absolutely kills when you use harmonics! I only currently use pinches, so i gotta learn how to incorporate natural harmonics into my playing. Also it has a foot switch now I don't have to buy a vintage one for my Ashton!
Only cons i can see is that the clean isn't very good, a bit twangy but its nothing a little reverb can't fix. it also has a clean boost but i don't like it because its very sensitive and if you pick it too hard it hurts your ears! I've already played it for 1 and a half hours and I'm not gonna stop! definetly the head I'm going to start gigging with when my band gets up to scratch.
anyways heres a few more pics, the previous owner had it for 7 months and kept it in very good condition, what a pity he sold it to me

Hey dudes,
I was wondering if someone could recomment a cheap and decent practice amp. Im looking for something no more than about £120.
I had my eye on the small 40watt randall warhead type things (the small camo ones - they are so loud!), but has anyone tried any small-ish amps and liked them?
Im looking for an alternative to my peavey bandit for practice sessions (its too hard to lug around warhead combos just for jammin).
Hey Guys,
Here's me paying tribute to one of my heroes, John Petrucci. Hope you enjoy it, and thanks for watching!
By the way, don't slay me for not playing it on my Razorback. . .I couldn't do this one without 24 frets!
Also, if it sounds "different" to you guys, it's because I've got it transposed up to standard pitch.

Take care!

Every heard of Terry Syrek? I've only heard one of his recordings, and it's a cover of "Temple of the Absurd" by Jason Becker.
His distortion tone is CRUSHING, and his clean tone is pretty freaking amazing too.
Does anyone know his rig?
Anyone Else Feel This Way About Metalcore?
by Axex on Sun Aug 05, 2007 9:04 pm
When I first discovered Metalcore, it sounded good. I started off listening to As I Lay Dying. And this genre of music was really different than the traditional Metal. But as I searched through more and more bands, it started to all sound the same. The breakdowns were very alike one another, and the main riffs sounded alot like others. Do you think this genre will die out pretty quick? It really has lost it's originality. And only a few bands stand out from the others. IDK I just wanted to know what yall had to think about it. I'm not bashing, just throwing in my thoughts.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJnll6nUqT8
Ok im having an argument on youtube with some guy who is convinced that the bass player from korn is great. Anyone have anything to say about this? Im not bashing korn in any way i just dont' think that the bass player is any good.
I know its used, yada yada.. BUT, I just want to make sure...
I got a CFH Wah off ebay the other day, it came, i hooked it up, the lights work, the knobs are all ok, the button clicks on and off, but i have no wah sound at all. I've tried everything. But this is my first time messing with a wah, did i do something wrong? or do i need to get my $100 bucks back?
I want to put an aftermarket floyd in my MLXM. Will it be too much work for such a guitar??
ML of course, lets hear why who prefers one over the other, USA and import, im curious to hear other peoples opinions
im a dean guy like 99.9 percent of everyone else here but im sure theres a washy guy who wants to spill it out!
lets here it!
For Randy and the other wanna try ENGL folks......

I MET TRIVIUM YESTERDAY WOO
@Family Values
AW IT WAS AMAZING.
I had some cheap ass seats, but I could still see everything well. They opened with frippin Becoming The Dragon...
Here's the setlist:
Becoming The Dragon
To The Rats
Tread The Floods
--they played both 6 string E standard songs on their 7-strings-
Pillars Of Serpents -woo
Gunshot
Pull Harder
everything sounded amazing. After that I went on the hunt for the FYE Tent...which wasn't even a tent...it was just a table chillin inside. Stood and line and then they came out and me and the other fanclub members got taken backstage and it was amazing. We hung out with the band for quite awhile. I had some nice conversations with all of them, especially Corey and Matt. They were ALL incredibly nice people. It was AMAZING...I got a picture signed and I got some stickers + guitar picks.
What's Next?
by Greg... on Mon Aug 06, 2007 4:34 pm
Hey Guys,
So what are we all saving up for next? (Guitar or Amp wise)
I'm thinking about getting a Razorback of some kind,
not sure if anyones covered this yet...
Greg
Silly little amp question.
So I did some searching through the forums (GASP! A person who actually does a little research first! ) and found some answers to my question, but I want the ultimate answer right now...For all the guys who either own or have played a Line-6 Spider II 150 combo and the new Spider III 150 combo, which one is better? I want a clean, honest answer before I put $500 into a new Spider III or put less money into a Spider II. I have read that the Spider IIIs have been having massive problems with their internal program or something and I would really hate to buy something that I would have to send back in a month. I have played a Spider III 150 and loved it, but I want to know for sure. Which way should I go?
Now, just for safety's sake, let me get rid of the answers I don't want:
No "Save your money and get a _______." please.
No "Line-6 sucks! Get a ________." please.
No "Get a half-stack, it's better." please.
No long-winded off-subject talks about crap please.
No stupid comments about squirrels please.
No "Nope, never played one, but you should go to hell!" please.
No "Dimesheep suck!" please.
Please just answer the question. I am asking nicely because I am looking to buy one as soon as possible. I want a combo, not another stack and am willing to pay my $500 and am looking specifically at the Spiders at 150 watts. That is all. Thank you for your time.

I'm DONE!!!! "The Black Beast" is now finished.
the beast in the case

One from the stand
It took forever to get strings, the white on the knobs is done on purpose. ENJOY!!!
Am I getting ripped off???
At our towns geet shop, they are selling a nice acoustic for 95$. It is a montana acoustic. Is it a ripp off???
also there is an Ibanez for 85$ is that a rip off? I'm going back tuesday, any thoughts would be nice.
Deans and other genres.
by * on Tue Aug 07, 2007 12:11 am
why does it seem that these days dean only cares about metal artists, and old farts that nobody cares about anymore(not naming any names)?
i mean, would any metal player bash them if say...brad paisley played a high end nash vegas?
or how about the guys in Muse. sure it's not my cup of tea, but they can play.
Nickelback?
George Strait?
anything but more of this metal/classic rock stuff. Don't get me wrong, I love metal and classic rock, but there's a reason fender and gibson dominate... they aren't marketed specifically to one group of people
you see country, rock, blues, metal, punk, jazz, and all kinds of other music featuring those brands.
would it kill the company to be a little more eclectic?
How do you clean a regular cloth grill and a tweed grill?
Also, how do you clean under the knobs on an amp after you take them off? What's the best way?
I'm looking at a Trace Elliot Super Tramp Twin Stereo Chorus combo amp and it's great, but the grill is a little dirty and there is some musty stuff under some of the knobs that makes it somewhat challenging to turn them.
help!!!! Rhino YJM-50 all tube head!!!!
anyone know anything about this amp? ive heard of them but never about them. any wisdom would be awesome
thanks guys
http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/msg/391080916.html
I'm planning on buying a Trace Elliot Super Tramp Twin Stereo Chorus combo amp...but it doesn't come with a footswitch. So...
I'm playing my first gig September 8th with a christian band called "Fireproof." I'm going to need a footswitch to switch from clean to dirty, because i'm playing clean chord rhythms and solos.
As far as I know, Trace Elliot was bought out by Gibson and no longer makes amps and stuff. It's near impossible to find a footswitch for this thing!
Is there any type of footswitch that can be used with any kind of amp? The amp has a clean channel, a dirty channel, and built in chorus and reverb.
Please help.
Thanks.
Here are all of my guitars, for the moment...lol The Jackson and Squier feature paintjobs by me. Pinstriping on them are by me too.
Dean Dime-o-Flauge, Dean Metalman ML Bass, Jackson Stealth EX, Squier Bullet.
So Cal Stealth, And the Toxic Bullet (corny I know but hey)
My Deans...need I say more? (Cadzilla coming in a few month;s!!)
I really need to put that pickup in.
I did the rivets and the pinstriping/letterig. This is my first attempt at ANY pinstriping.
My baby. It has a Floyd Rose Original and now has a EMG-HZ-H4 in the bridge position.
My new baby. I love this body shape. It's just so easy to play, standing or sitting. And it's stock....for now...
Thanks for lookin!!

Found some tape-recordings my previous band did like 4 or 5 years ago
I know the soundquality is pretty bad, but that's what you get
when you put an old tape-recorder in the middle of the
rehearsing room and put a sweater over it
Get Inside (Stone Sour cover)
Spit (Sepultura cover)
Trapped in the past (own song)
Flying V rear strap location
...my V has had the strap button moved from below the upper horn to the tip of the upper horn, like a Gibson. The original owner said that the guitar has neck heavy and would tilt downwards unless supported.
It balances fine now, but can anybody here who owns a Dean V and a Gibson V compare the difference?...is there one?...I've played plenty of neck heavy Gibsons, mainly Les Pauls though. The reason I ask is I'm thinking about moving the strap post back to the original location.

Smooth creamy distortion
by Lon on Tue Aug 07, 2007 6:58 pm
My birthday is Sunday and my wife wants to buy me something guitar related and I want to stay under $100. I've never owned ANY kind of pedal before, only multi effects units. My amp is a Fender Champion 30 that I'm extremely happy with. Classic Fender cleans and the reverb is just fine for me. I'm thinking I might like some sort of distortion pedal but have NO idea where to start. Classic Rock distortion is what I'd be after, nothing harsh or brutal. Where should I start? Let me also say I mainly play SSS Strats. Thanks in advance.
By all means... Build your own!
I've seen a couple a posts about building your own guitar...
I figured I'd share my latest creation! I posted this previously on a couple of other boards as well....
·07 Warmoth custom painted body - Alder
·06 Fender American Tele neck - 60th anniversary badges
·Joe Barden Bridge for vintage tele. This is what I love about this bridge… bass plate is slightly thicker then stock. The treble side of the bridge has a cutout so you don’t ball-up your fingers! Two additional mounting screws to hold the front of the plate down (brilliant!). Brass saddles (compensated) with the outside saddles notched under the E strings.
·RS Tele Wiring kit - A 280K RS Solid-Shaft Superpot with custom taper that gives you a noticeable difference between each number on your volume control. One 250K CTS Solid Shaft Audio taper pot- Audio taper brass shaft construction. An RS Jensen Paper and Oil GuitarCap .047
Switchcraft three position switch
Switchcraft input jack
·Electrosocket Aluminum input
·Schaller locking tuners
·Rio Grande Dirty Harry Bridge and Muy Grande neck...TASTY!
·Genuine Fender Tele pick guard
·Genuine Fender Control Plate, neck plate, String Ferrules and screws
A couple of shots... I have a ton

Soltero Reviews Needed.

if you've own or have just played a soltero, tell me how it was. how is the weight? I passed up both the selects i was looking at and am just going to save up for a USA. and i'm REALLY thinking soltero at this point, but i want to know.
how do they play, and how do they compare to other USA models?
Hey im thinking about building my own bass maybe a five or six string, does any one have any ideas on how much that would cost or how long it would take to make. Or are there any kits were i can make my own or something like that. Thanks for the help guys.
Best Dean ever made

...out of cardboard.
blue finish. cardboard fingerboard, widow headstock, model car wheel knobs, floyd rose speedloader trem(cause i'm too lazy to put spare tuners in).
one piece construction. TGI Fridays potato skins chips custom graphic on back. actual size. now i can rock out to "breakin' the law" properly.
Difference between bass/guitar fx pedals
Nothing bad would happen if I plugged a bass into my Guitar POD XT Live would it?
Do I really have to abuse tunings to play it?
I normally use the soft cloths from musicians fiend to clean up my guitars. Is there one that is better than this? What do you use?

I'm hooked
Need money, to buy cds
If all goes well with exam results, then next week I could be the proud owner of a new amp or a guitar, but which one? If I get an amp, Ill be looking towards the ENGL Screamer or similar. If its a guitar, Im pretty much limited to an Ibanez Prestige (nothing else that I want in my price range).
I will say this though, I bought a new amp in November but the honeymoon period is over and its developped a VERY noisy FX loop, so im leaning towards a new amp, but opinions (on the topic) are appreciated, cheers guys.
what colour floyd come on razorback two-tone's?
for my next guitar ive decided on a razorback two-tone, but id like a black floyd rose and im sure ive seen some with chrome floyds, so can anyone confirm which colour the floyd is that comes with the two tone?
Another over-price beauty, this one with a FLAW
I have never bought anything from these guys, and it's because of the way they conduct themselves. The $20,000.00 SplitTail proto was a good reason, but another fine case-in-point is this. A totally awesome USA Skull V (one of my FAVORITE finishes) with a ripple in the graphic under the clear and they STILL want $3,695.00!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jody would never do this to a customer. Hell, his price would have been so good it wouldn't have lasted a day.

Nile was awesome so was Chthonic...that was about the only thing good about the second stage.
Nick Cantanese was there signing autographs, I got to shake his hand and he signed my ticket (I almost crapped)
Lordi was booed by everyone in the lawn section
Static-X was simply kick-ass
Lamb Of God was insane, People were throwing bottles, I look up and literally I MEAN LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF PLASTIC BOTTLES ARE FLYING ABOVE MY HEAD!!, And if that wasn't enough Randy told everyone to tear the lawn up!, So along with bottles, chunks of sod the size of bowling balls are flying every which way..The people next to me started chanting Lamb of Sod, I got hit at least 10 times. Then when they played Black Label...The biggest circle pit I've ever seen is circling in the center of the lawn.
Ozzy...simply amazing, the little opening video that played on the screens was hysterical... They played mostly classics...kicked ass. Zakk did a solo...It too kicked ass. Ozzy is the greatest!
One thing I've noticed though,
Bands like Lamb of God and all the Second Stage Bands...They don't really entertain the way Ozzy does or any good musician should...They play loud crappy music with no solos or anything. And think of ways for people to entertain themselves as they provide ambient noise...Thats why I don't particularly care for bands like them...I'm sure some people agree...some would most likely disagree but thats the way I see it.
Also...Driving home...we left kinda early, because my dad had work and we wanted to beat the crowd...we passed three tour buses...and I looked through one of the windows...I'm definetly sure a big screen was playing some porn:lol: ...Not sure who the bus belonged to tho, but definetly an Ozzfest band
New guitar for my birthday
by Lon on Thu Aug 09, 2007 2:17 pm
My wife bought me a black Squier 51 for my birthday, which is this Sunday. These are awesome little guitars and have become quite the cult favorite. Initially they look like a Telecaster but after removing the pickguard it's just a Strat body with a Tele neck. Fortunately the bodies are finished under that silly huge pickguard. I had a sunburst one when they first came out but it went away with my divorce a few years ago. I have plans to remove the guard and possibly paint it, not sure yet. These have a rotary knob for pup selection and a push pull pot the split the humbucker. Very cool guitars for very little money. They've been discontinued already as Squier usually does so they're being snapped up fast. I got mine for a stupid low price of $55.55 because the guy had the ebay auctioin ending at about 2 am. Not sure what he was thinking but it worked out in my favor. I bid $60 and went to bed. The top pic is stock and the bottom pics are what some guys on the Fender forum have done to theirs. The bottom one was my first. I removed the guard, put a black cover on the single coil and covered the holes with pewter dragonflies.
Since everybody else has one...
My new Roland Microcube arrived today
I had G.A.S. for one of those about half a year ago but I kinda forgot about it. But lately I heard and read a lot of good things about it from friends and here on the forum so I finally bought one.
It sounds a lot better than you would expect from such a small amp, especially the R-fier and Black Panel settings sounds great.
You all know what it looks like but I don't think anyone here has a white one:

Im doing this thing called Rockshop it like a Rock school course thing. Ive been doing it since yesterday and tomorrow we have another day there and then have a big performence that night, the perfortmence is like 3 hous long with about 36 acts all doing one song.
The main bloke in charge is bloke called Herbie Flowers a famous musician whos played with the like of Lou reed, Elton John and David Bowie. Theres whole team of tutors aswell.
Pretty big venue with the best PA system that Herbie has ever heard and an amzing lighting rig.
We where put on the spot and my band came up with the name blind pilots just for the show (i know pretty crap name) our song is called 'Over again'.
We had a run through. Its a kinda soft Rock song(yeah i looked kinda out of place doing a soft rock song wearing my camo shorts, Slayer T-shirt and red checkered shirt) with big climatic riffage at the end with me pulling off an improv solo.
Will post pics in a few days, and will post video footage in a week or so as Rocksop are making a DVD of it.
What's the difference between the stock DS-1 and Keeley modded DS-1? I've heard the Keeley gives a more "fat" tone while still maintaining the original tone of the pedal and just boosts everything altogether. If so, that is EXACTLY what i'm looking for. I'm already getting a Surfing with the Alien tone with my stock DS-1, but it could use a little more bass and a small boost in some areas.
Boss DS-1 = My favorite pedal eva
Why doesn't Dean make a players pack. Something like Fender or Epi. A pack that comes with an amp, geet, strap, and other goodies. I see other companies and I think it would be a great advantage for Dean.
Played a series of Vs and other Deans today...
I have to say I'm starting to LOVE the V shape. I walk into GC, and right there is 5 Vs looking at me right at I walk in, all nice and purdy in a line. There was 4 Dean X Vs. 2 Braziliabursts, and 2 classic blacks, and 1 Ibanez V in white with black bevels. I stared at them for a while and walk on to a black Gibson V hanging down, and a level I could reach, cause normaly they put the Gibby Vs and Explorers up high... bastards.
I grab that, then pull up to a PeaVey XXX half stack. Without a doubt that was the best Gibson I played, and I loved that amp. I must have played that thing for 15 minutes straight, putting out some of the cleanest riffs I'd ever played.
So I get done with that, then walk over to the combo amp area that has way more geets. What catches my eye, but the black back of a Razor V 255 in silver Two Tone. I picked that up and plugged into a Line 6 Spider III 150, cause everything else was occupied or had people by them. I was AMAZED at that thing. It didn't make the Gibson look like crap, but defiantly sat on my leg better, and just played better. But the sound was less than. I look at the pups, and theres 2 EMGs looking at me. Well, that solves the reason the sound didn't take me. (sorry EMG lovers, but I don't like them) I'd get that thing then pop in some Duncans or DiMarzios and boom. A kid actually complimented the V himself.
So I put that down, then see another black back of a Razor ML. Turned out to be an Explosion. Just like a Dean should be, it was a very comfortable guitar, but the V just fit me better. It sounded better though, cause of the lack of EMGs. I play that for a while, then put that back.
Then I remembered about the X Vs. I pick up one in Brazilia burst. Those Vs really are excellent bang for the buck. Anyone looking for a budget V should get one of those immediately. Then neck really needed a good sanding down though.
Then I saw one of the Dime Shadows. I didn't play it, but it seemed like a mix between a '79 MLF and my ML-F Noir, a real nice geet.
They had one of those replica EVH geets there way the %$#@! up in a corner... I wonder why. That thing defiantly looked damaged, but not too playable, it just looked good though, something for decoration for the EVH fan. IMO.
With out a doubt after today I'll be getting a Dean V ASAP. The 255 was astounding, the Xs were reliable, and all just felt good.
The question is, what Dean V?
Then I bought a string winder (which any guitar player should invest in) a Dunlop pick holder to put on the Microcube (awesome for the people who need a good place to put picks) some yellow .73 Tortexs, a 5 foot cable for the Microcube, cause a 12 foot Monster Cable is a bitch to lug around, and a Guitar World.
So yeah, Dean Vs and Gibby Vs rock pretty hard. I may become a strict V and ML man and leave the Warlocks behind, but I'm never selling my Warlock.

my jh2 arrived and your not gonna believe what they did to it. They
wrapped the case in bubble wrap and brown paper. That's it, no f'n box, wtf
and it never got damaged. im very thankful.
its in 100% new condition.
and No marks on it and still has the plastic on the truss rod cover and
back plate, and here's more, in the listing it said it had 2 emg 81 and
was a serial numbered one, its actually jh2 number 61 from the numbered 200 batch. This one isn't as heavy as my other and is in better condition. Too bad it didn't have a cert. i used to own #79 but i sold it to frantic77 and i really missed it after i did.
the guy i bought it from just left it in its case and hardly played it.
he bought it new when they came out, i restrung it and conditioned the fretboard and changed the battery.
it sounds like my other one but has a little bit more bite which i kinda like, esp spent a little more time building this one than my other one it seems, theres a couple little things i noticed like fretwork, and the nut was cut better. im very happy to have got this guitar in my collection and i doubt i will sell it unless i get a stupidly crazy offer for it.
i just got mine just curious what setting u guys r using on yours??
Out of those, which would you choose. I'm also needing some help. Do Randall Solid States sound good ?? Thanks.
I'm really leaning towards buying this head for christmas, but if anybody has could you tell me how it sounds. A tube amp for les than $600. Better deal than a Marshall or a Krank, for the price at least.
Calling all Photshop Gurus....Big Idea here!
I was wondering if anyone was really good enough on photoshop or those 3d programs to make me a JPEG of a EVO-V
I had the thoguh in my head bruning out tonight that if Dean ever made me a custom I'd ask for a V neck Evo with Evo neck joint but with a string thru rounded corner V tail all in some sort of flame or quilt top.
Kind of liek my cherry sunburst quilt top 7 evo, but with a V tail to it.
I think it would look frippin bad ass, but classy and not so metal for my genre!
Finally popped my USA cherry today Man this thing is sweet.
Got it used ('06). Hardware was a little dirty, but it cleaned up nicely.
mmmmm, quilted...
Is it just me, or does the logo look a little "off"?
This thing feels so damn solid. Heavy(compared to my imports). The sustain is awesome. The neck is killer. It's got a JB/59 set in it. Not bad, probably won't stay in long.
I'm not usually a fan of gold hardware, but it looks perfect... especially with the top.
My import days could be over

Hello Guys,
I've got an old Strat copy that i'm 're-vamping' its all Dark Red with a Black Pick Guard, got it at a bootsale and it was such a good guitar for my first, but anyway i'm gunna spray Body, Neck, HS and Back Black and the Pickguard White then i'm gunna stick in some Gold HW (Tuners, Jack, Trem Bridge) but has anyone got any other paint job ideas?
I'm loving the Black, White, Gold thing atm but i was thinking all white and gold HW anywho,

Do you think dean will make an import of this as a 255? Also do you think dean would produce a red/black razorback v 255. For the longest time i was settled on the explosion but i have decided for a simpler, less brutal paint job.
I said I would do one when I first got my valveking, and know that i have downloaded audacity and found a computer mic i have been recording of my bro's laptop in my room.
Wake up dead- its my second try at doing something on audacity- please excuse any sloppiness.

Found a High Gain Tube amp for Under $300
Vox Valvetronix XL (Extreme Lead)
Okay, so it's not exactly a tube amp, but it does have 1 tube.
Great distortion. Very high gain, sounds full and big at low volumes. Built in effects and noise reduction. Very cool for a practice amp (headphones an option) but the 100watt version may work for band practice.
If you are into extreme gain, but need something that will keep the neighbors from calling the cops then check it out. Sam Ash has them.
Re-learning to play
by Mac on Fri Aug 10, 2007 7:35 pm
So i can play a little bit, but not a whole lot. The reason I'm putting this up is cos I'm not in my teens and I'm wanting to start learning to play guitar again from the ground up. yes completely from scratch.
I already know the basics of the fretboard but i want to scrap what I've learned and start again.
But I worry sometimes because I'm halfway through my 20's and wanting to get back into music playing seriously...
anyone offer any tips or advice to someone who's wanting to learn everything once more because its something he wants to do?
NEW ACOUSTIC!!! plus PRON (sorry not a dean)
I finnally got it , came ups...but it is fine.

Has there ever been a double neck ML?
by Bullet on Fri Aug 10, 2007 10:38 pm
One of my friends was asking me if there was ever a double neck ML, I told him the only double neck Deans, I know of are a Caddy, and Hardtail. So has there been any other double neck Deans.
So I photoshoped him a picture to get an idea of what it would look like. Plus a few others I did, because I'd thought they'd look pretty bad ass
Frets all polished, Rosewood board all cleaned *NDC*
Well, I finally got around to taking those damn skull stickers off the Fretboard on my ESP LTD EX-50. And wow, I must say it was defiantly worth the few hours I put into it. For those who care, heres some pics and captions of what I did... (please excuse the shitty quality from my camera. We need to get a new one.)
I removed the strings and used Scotch Blue Painters Tape on it. Then I used 0000 (very fine) grade steel wool on the frets, barely pressing down. Above is the before picture.
And this is after. It may be hard to see, but theres a difference, trust me. The frets are much smoother, still the same hight and have a very uniform look to them.
Heres a close up to the frets, and the board. You can see the damn skull stickers that wouldn't come off, and how dry and almost discolored the Rosewood is.
Theres the cloth I used and I thought it would be wise to put some tape over the bridge pup for safe keeping. Then also ml_Pilot suggested using q-tips for getting down and close to the frets. That worked very well.
There it is with the 4 coating I put on it. It was a VERY thirsty fretboard. The guy before me really didn't care to maintain this geet at all. A crying shame, as while it's a lower grade LTD, it still is a great jammer.
Now here it is with an oiled up fretboard, and a nice new set of D'Addario 11 gauge Jazz/Rock strings. It has a much deeper look to it and healthy look to it.
And heres the full neck shot.
Now that the neck has been taken care of, it feels thousands times better, and just looks like a champ. My next plans for it is to but a new black Tune O Matic, as this ones old and beat up and I think is rusting in some areas, then a new graphite nut, and JB/59 pups. I'll probably do that to it next time I change the strings.
Bottom line, lemon oil + fretboard and 0000 steel wool + frets = a great fretboard. Now I need to do this to my other 2 geets next time it's time for a string change.
Little Metal Medley I did.
This is (as the title says) a metal medley i did about a week and a half after i got my '02 Ibanez RGT42. This was like a month ago. I'd do another one, but my camera "disappeared" without a trace
I've also gotten a line6 Spider III 30 watt amp since then, and the crappy old fender is in my room under a pile of dirty clothing.
Anyways, I just wanted to know what people think. Keep in mind this was a month ago so I've improved a bit.

I was at the local shop checking out the new gear and they had a bullseye Zakk guitar with OFR and it was a Gibson V. I looked awesome. I didn't play it it cause i know what a Gibson V with EMG's will sound like but for a collector of Zakk fan it's a sweet looking guitar. They are asking 5 grand cdn though. Thats typical of Gibson.
They also had a Franken strat EVH there as well. I looked ito a 5 year finance on it and it'll only be 600 a month for five years.
Vox V847 Vs. Crybaby From Hell
i have an RP250 and the wah sucks, it has no range. im probably going to sell that and get a real wah pedal. which one would you guys choose? the Vox is also like around 80 or 90 dollars and the CFH is 150.

Questions on a New guitar
by Inf3rno on Sat Aug 11, 2007 5:40 am
Hey guys I had 2 questions. First off, do u think having 24 frets should be a big priority in a new guitar? Also, what do u think of a Razorback V with a Dimebucker in the bridge and a SH-1 59 in the neck? So close to getting my wings but I need to make up my mind. Thanks

for my next guitar ive decided I want a Razorback, but im really stuck as to which to get. its got to be either a Two-Tone or an Explosion (07 model!) i dont really dig the slimebee and imo the shards is god awful, so guys please help me out here as I really dont know which to go for!
Peavey windsor, any good? Or waste of time.
Anyone know if the Peavey windsor tube halfstack is any good? I can't find any good demos that aren't mixed with effect boxes.
"D'OH!" Moments with guitars
guy i work with recently has gotten back into playing guitar. plays acoustic and is looking into a strat.
told me yesterday he used to have a Gibson LesPaul...
apparently he got it from an uncle that lost his fingers on the rigs, and thus gave it to him... it was an OLD Gibson when my co-worker got it in 89'
i asked what happened to it...
apparently he tried to refinish it, and felt he "f'd it up" he left it in his closet and moved to NY. his mom called him while going thru his crap and asked if he still wanted it... he said "na mom" and she threw it away...
i don't care HOW you f'd up an LP with refinishing it.... its still salvagable and worth SOMETHING to somebody!
D'OH!!!!!
Anyone up for some....

Whoa, saw a couple of cool classic rock bands today...
by Blazer on Sat Aug 11, 2007 10:38 pm
At the Pinkpop Classic edition 2007. On the bill were: The Janse Bagge bend (A dutch band), Raymond Van Het Groenenwoud (a Belgian singer songwriter), Wishbone Ash, Mink Deville (Yes indeed, the full band, not just Willy), Cockney Rebel, Marillion and Status quo.
It ruled. So many cool songs to sing along with and with it being a sunny day there wasn't really much to complain about.
So, now I'm home badly sunburned and shaking as my body is recovering from sonic overload...

by zao on Sun Aug 12, 2007 3:55 am
I figured somebody might like this tele, its a fender custom shop danny gatton model. its got a flamed maple neck that feels like a baseball bat. i suck at taking pics but you get the idea. so far i really love this guitar, very twangy and clean tones are great.

my USA soltero idea.
so far
Black Korina body
Redwood top with finish like dime redwood ml or 30th anniversary
black
dual humbuckers (jb and jazz, or X2N and hum from hell, maybe even some bare knuckles)black covers
Ebony Board, Block inlays
i have EXTREME gas for this guitar
furman parametric distortion
ok so the other day in the loop of my amp was my first try using the furman pq3(amp Randall g3)needless to say its wasnt impressive!!allthough a brutal amp the g3s distortion is kinda muddy by itself. So today i tried the pq3 as a preamp(for) distortion going through the instrument jacks instead of the line in ones.after messing with it for a bit i came across some really crunchy tone!! even more so with the mxr eq:shock: there was the tight tone i was lookin for!!Im impressed how crunchy and tubey it sounds.what i really like about it is u get that crunch without using a ton of distortion.it also has a killer classic rock sound and a jerry cantel tone jst a turn of a couple knobs!!this thing is cool im glad i bought it!!

Originally went in to get a Vox AD30VT, but ended up getting this
http://elderly.com/new_instruments/names/vox-da20-20-watt-portable-amplifier--VDA20.htm
Not even in the same league, but I loved the tone I was getting out of this using a strat 57 hodrod, Dean USA hardtail classic quilt, and a Black Gold V. Sweet tone out of those 2 little speakers. Not real loud, but I gotta PA so no worries! Was on the bike so I couldn't get it right then, but ordered at soon as I got home. can't wait to put some miles on it.
Dean USA's fretboard binding...
IMHO, the rolled binding is absolutely outstanding. However I find myself asking; why do they leave the end of the board (at the body) unbound?????? The only guitar I have found to be the exception is the VMNT. That little strip makes a huge difference aesthetically, does anyone know if it can be added on to a TC?
MAN that bugs me...
any of you guys in the UK (or in the states but i highly doubt it) tried any guitars from john at feline? im considering buying something from him and was just wondering if any of you have ever had a chance to try one of his guitars out?

what size allen key fits locking nuts?
ive lost the allen key that opens the locking nuts on my ml, does anyone know what size allen key is needed as i need to buy a new one?
AND WAS BLOWN AWAY. My local music shop just got a new shipment of guitars, a couple ibanez's, jacksons, and gibsons. The usual ones they get.But this time, they got 3 shiney new deans. They were on display right when oyu walked thru the door. There was an Mlx, I've tried one before, so i left that one alone. There was also a Dime-O-Flame. MAN those things are nice. c neck is really comfy. And there was Two-Tone Razorback calling my name...begging me to play it. I picked it up, astounded at how HEAVY it is.(My guitar is an Ibanez RG) and went to the try-out room, plugged it in, and nearly s#%t my pants. IT WAS AMAZING. From that sweet v neck, to the way it sits just right and perfectly balanced. I now know that the next guitar i get is going to be a razor .
Hey i was just wondering why there was 3 allen keys with my RB, isnt there just supposed to be one for the locking nuts and one for the place where the FR arm sticks in??
post pics of you rust razorbacks please
im gassing really hard for one but don't have the cash. how much do they usually go for used? and isn't there 2 different artists that did the paint? a realsitic version and a more cartoony version? besides the obvious paint difference is there any other way to tell them apart?

The Icon PZ revealed
by scott58 on Mon Aug 13, 2007 4:22 pm
After months of internet searching with very little results I took my Icon to a luthier for a biopsy and good cleaning. I've always wondered why this guitar sounds so different and had more controls then any other Icon i've seen. Turns out besides the obvious humbuckers there is an acoustic pickup under the bridge which is what the addition toggle and knob control is for. I thought it was controling the 2 humbuckers separately, but that wasn't the case. I can turn them on and off separetly, but the additional stuff is all for the acoustic hardware. Very cool setup. The guy i took it to said to let him know if i ever want to sell it. No way!
The man sure can play, but...

SWEET!
Hey all, just wanted you all to know that I am back playing Dean again. Not as an artist this time (we'll see about that in due time), but just out of my love of them. I missed them too much. Steve at BRG is sending me a doozy of an ML. I'm back for good too now. I went out and tried everything from Custom Jacksons, to Gibsons and some other mentionables. None were as good.
I bought some duncan BLACKOUTS
by zao on Mon Aug 13, 2007 9:45 pm
i just took out some emgs and put in a set of seymour duncan blackouts, i just used the quick connects like emgs. they sound pretty good but i wanna spend some more time with them before i give my final thoughts. so far the blackouts have more lows and mids than the 81 i always use, and i think they have more output. i would say if you like emgs but wished they had a little bit of passive tone mixed in then you might like them. i installed them in a dean usa rebel razorback, its a mahogany body and ebony board and they matched up pretty decent. i have emgs in the rust rb and i will tune them both the same and try and see which i like better later on this week. so far i like what i hear.
VOX
by rridner on Mon Aug 13, 2007 10:06 pm
well, after all the talk about Vox having some super sweet practice amps - I got curious. I had some free time on Saturday, cos my power was out ALL day and couldn't handle sitting at home. I went to one of the two guitar shops that I frequent and tried a few of em out. I must admit, I hate the built in effects and models on big amps - but on a practice amp they really are pretty neat and handy. I ended up trading my Orange Crush 15 for a used Vox DA15. I am really happy with it. My Orange just sounded so thin in comparison to my 75 watt Randall, which is my main amp. Unfortunately, I live in an apartment and can't always make use of the Randall - which is where the need for a good practice amp comes in. Before I got the Randall, I didn't mind the sound of the Orange at all. However, it became really hard to go from one to the other. The Vox has a great sound and doesn't make me not want to play when I can't use the Randall like the Orange did. I was looking at the Roland Micro Cubes too, but didn't want to spend $150 for a 5 watt amp. After the trade, I got the Vox for $80
New VoV II session and Christian Jenkins Joins VoV!
by JA Allen on Mon Aug 13, 2007 10:28 pm
Just wanted to let everyone know what VoV and I are up to.
We have a new guitarist that stepped in, his name you may all know, Christian Jenkins!
Dina and Christian have helped me non-stop out of their hearts during all my shows and rehearsals, so, he knows the songs and my way of working, he is so good, it was natural to have him move in to the spot, and what better guy to have up with you then a best friend!
I have started to work on VoV II (Tentative Title) while we rehearse with Chris for or next set of shows in Sept and Oct (All in NYC) and I have a new first mix of the song "He Who Laughs Last" for you all too check out.
Christian is featured on this one as well! He is in VoV now, and well, he will be working with me on the whole new CD.
Rhy guitar tracks are all Chris and I, I also do the lead melody on the intro, bridge and outtro. As for the solo section, I take the first, and Chris takes the second. The third is not completed yet (Chris is getting that one too (he doesnt know this yet, LOL), nor are the verse and chorus melodies yet, Chris and I are going to do a harmony melody together for those areas. All the rest is done.
Pay attention to the second solo, Chris is not sure he likes it, I love it, and so, let him and I know if he should keep it. I think its a great work, and perfect to stand out from my idiot playing really.
Here it is, and enjoy.
EDIT: (Proper mix file has been put up, sorry about that!)

Tribute Bands
by Wombat on Mon Aug 13, 2007 11:53 pm
I saw a tribute band at the county fair the other night. They called themselves Bon Fire. A tribute to Bon Scott era AC/DC. The singer was a goofy looking, porky young fellow, wearing a Brian Johnson hat. He sounded just like Bon Scott!
The lead guitar player was wearing dark shorts, playing an SG with a strap that brought the guitar way up high. He had no shirt on and was running around sweating a lot as he played. He was trying hard for the Angus look, and he had his Angus chops down real well.
The band was super tight, and sounded just great.
I'm sure that I'd have a blast playing in that band, but there is something about a tribute band that shouts out to me "I want to be someone other than me!", and leaves me a little depressed.
I know that compared to most people that I know, I am a complete oddity, but does anybody else have any similar attitudes?
New guitarday - Hardtail Select
I accidentaly discovered a used Hardtail Select here in Sweden!
It had a small ding right under the pickupselector but nothing I cared for.
I have been thinking about a backup guitar for some time and this time I wanted a guitar without a floyd for easy tuning and restringing on gigs. I also considered this guitar to be my "soft" guitar for gilmourish things and whatnot.
I've had it for a few weeks now and I'm really happy with it.
It even got more playtime than my ML and Razor but probably cause my band haven't jammed for a few weeks.
It came with a set of .9-.42 I think and I can't stand sloppy strings so I put on a set of .10-.52 instead and that sucker sings!
I have yet to do a small adjustment on the trussrod to compensate for the lower action since the string change (too low now, there's some slight fretbuzz) but other than that I'm more than happy.
The pickups sounds good for being stock and though I'm happy at the moment, I'll probably swap them out later..
Bottom Line
I really like this guitar. You get a really good guitar for the money and I think I got a great deal aswell. I paid like 580$ including hardshell and shipping.
You americans think that deal sucks a$$ ofcourse for a USED Hardtail but in Sweden guitars costs alot of money so... I'm very happy about it.
And it's absolutely beautiful aswell! I love the transblue finish!
I only have one pic for now which I got from the seller.
I'll post more in a couple of days.
I have finally managed to place all my guitars on wallhangers in my apartment and they are now on display 24/7 and don't take as much space as before either. (It looks really cool, got a set of spotlights aswell for the FBD and Razor)
I shall borrow a good digitalcamera off a friend though to make them some kind of justice.
Hey Joe....you lurking around ??

Geez, Dean is addictive...
A couple of months ago, I was in love with Dean. Then, I decided to look into other things. I looked at Fender, Jackson, Kramer, Charvel, Ibanez, Gibson, BC Rich...
Heck I even bought an Ibanez 7 string the other day for $200.
But now i've decided. Dean guitars have something about them, some secret ingrediant, that other guitar companies just don't have.
Dean is the only way to go. There are many upon many Dean praise-threads here, but man, I just have to say it, nothing beats 'em.
One thing I like is the fact that they don't over-do the cheesy graphics on their guitars. Another thing is that they are amazingly comfortable. They are very classy looking and good for ANY style of music out there. Don't believe me? Look at Trivium, Batio, Rusty Cooley, Dave Mustaine, Glen Drover, the Schenker Brothers, Rik Emmett, Leslie West, Jerry Cantrell, Dime...
Sorry to sound like a homo...i'm in the moment.

I'm in the process of buying new gear. I'll put myself on the waiting list for a Fractal Axe-Fx and I'll get some VHT or Randall poweramp soon. Also, I want to get a new guitar. Right now I have a Washburn Culprit that I keep and I want to add a guitar with fixed bridge. I love the look of the Z and I'm very interested in buying one. So I'd like to know if I buy one new can I get a set-thru neck or do they all come with set-necks ? Also, can you chose what pickups/woods you like ?
if any of you have or had a Z let me know how it played
Will I get severly beaten or Shot...
If I'm a white boy sporting a Rebel Razorback at a gig? I know the military wouldn't congradulate me on my guitar's finish and it would be something I'd never show picture of at work. Is it still regarded as really bad? I only learned the meaning of it yesterday. FRom work.

Guitar shop visit...reviews inside...
I want to start off by saying how cool the staff were. You could tell these guys cared about their instruments and knew what they were doing with this stuff. The place is called Chandlers in Kew, London. Worth the visit.
First of all, I picked up a black Gibson Les Paul, weighed a ton. Then talked to the shop keeper for a little while and he said "Put that thing away and play through this" He then reached up and pulled down a Gibson Les Paul Custom Shop (baseball bat neck all the way). Didn't even know the guy and he handed me a £3,500 guitar It was going well
Went down stairs and he put me into a room full of pretty sexy amps, ENGL Powerball, Mesa/Boogie Stiletto thingy-bob, Peavy JSX and plenty og others. I was there to try out the ENGL Screamer Head through the ENGL Vintage 2x12 cab Vertical (loaded with Celestions). At several points, the guy came down and told me "You're pretty loud, but not that loud, so crank it up" I like him. Heres the review -
Clean channel - This is a great clean channel. It really worked well with the bridge and neck pickups. Plenty of bite in the bridge and very warm in the neck. The bright switch is great and makes the amp very "chimey" but not in your face at all. When I disengaged the bright switch, rolled back on the tone of the guitar and switched onto the neck pickup, I INSTANTLY fell in love with the jazz tone that I got out of the amp. Such a beautiful rich and creamy tone, not a hint of breakup just silky smooth tone. I loved that sound.
Pushed Clean - didnt really tinker with this but it sounded pretty cool, open chords rang out and broke up nicely.
Low Gain - This is not as low gain as it may seem to be. It had a lot of crunch to be offered and proved ideal for Van Halen. Played some Dokken on it and i just felt like i nailed that tone. Very very sweet channel and I can see many 80s metal moments to be had on it. Noise wasnt too bad on this channel, even at pretty brutal volumes.
Hih Gain - This is why I was sitting in the basement of this guitar shop. I cranked out the gain, put the volume up a few notches. I was sitting close to the amp and she squealed like a banshee. I wasnt put off and immediately started riffing my balls off. Quite an aggressive soung came out of this thing. Its supposed to have a tamed gain structure, but its still pretty wild. It sounded a bit fizzy at first, so i pushed up the master volume to make the EL34s work harder and that was the end of that. After that, it was pure hard pushed distortion making my ears hurt pretty badly, I was playing it very loud This channel was pretty noisy though. At low volumes it was pretty bearable, but Id suggest a Noise gate to keep the squealing in check at stage volumes.
Reverb was OK, almost too much past 9 o'clock, so i didnt really use much of it. Best thing about it was the clean channel, i was very impressed.
Then I tried a Powerball. I didnt test this as extensively so ill keep the review shorter. Played it through the same guitar and a Marshall 1960A cab, this was the 6L6 version. The cleans were still pretty good, bright and chimey but no where as good as the Screamer. Pushed clean was quite an aggressive channel pushing out quite a bit of grit into the sound putting it into AC/DC category.
Low gain was anything but low on gain. The amp was killing Slayer on that channel with the Gain a fair way up (didnt really pay attention to it, i was having way too much fun) The High gain channel was insane. Tons and tons of gain, far more than anyone could use and the on board NS wasn't coping as well as i would have hoped, still. Masses and masses o gain and it was pretty damn brutal.
Plugged into a VHT pitbull forty five, but I pulled out very quickly. Not enough gain for what i was there for and it just sounded very dry.
Then went into a Marshall Vintage Modern 50 watt head. Quite a fair sounding amp when it comes to high gain territory. Clear and defined and when you roll back and put the dynamic range into Low, you can get some great pushed plexi tones. Dynamic range into high and youre shredding quite happily. I was pleasantly suprised by this amp, any one on the fence with this baby, I highly recommend it! Very cool, but not quite my style. Also played this with the 90th anniversary Ibanez JEM something or other. Neck the size of a tooth pick.
Sorry about the long read, hope someone finds it useful. It was great fun too!
it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy
Tommy Thayer, aren't we all just jealous of him?
by Blazer on Tue Aug 14, 2007 11:53 pm
Kiss guitarist Tommy Thayer
Tommy gets a LOT of flak from people on playing live with Kiss in Ace Frehley's make up and is generally percieved by a lot of people as a "Fake" However, those aware of Thayer in "Black N Blue" will know otherwise, Thayer is a solid player capable of spanning the full spectrum of Kiss material. Not to mention that he's also much more dependable than the volitile Ace.
I actually feel jealous of Thayer, come on, who of us WOULDN'T want to be in his shoes? (or should I say "Platform boots") And play with the band that you praised when you were a kid? Heck if was offered that option I'd happily go "Let me at that make up man, you've got yourself a deal!"
What would you do if the stones would boot Ron Wood out and asked you to play in his place?
Or suppose if David Lee Roth want you to play guitar with him would you really say "Nah, you ought to ask Steve Vai again"
All of you seem so very conservative about the line up of a band. And are talking about "Man they should've folded when Fill-in-the-name left" but be honest aren't we all in for the pleasure of playing live, to see the audience react to our musical craftsmanship, to have pleasant encounters after the show is done? Isn't that waht Rock N roll is about?
Ask yourself the question, what would YOU have done if somebody offered you to be in the band you loved in your teens? Would you REALLY have declined that offer?
To be honest if Iron Maiden asked me to replace one of their three guitarists (doesn't matter which one) I'd tell them "Sure, let me get my stuff. When do we start?"

Razorback and 30th AnniversaryML A/B test
This is just a little info, my Myspace page with an A/B test, and my own opinon, for anyone considering either a Razorback, or a Anniversary ML, both import models. How much diffrence there is between a regular ML and the Anniversary I dont know, hopefully someone on here can let me know.
I bought my Razorback 2-Tone a couple of months ago, and was immediatly in love with it.
-The very pronounced V neck took a little getting used to (about 15 mins) but I find I dont even notice it until I do runs past the 10th fret. For chord work at the lower frets, it feels a lot like my Epi Les Paul Standard.
-The Dimebucker gets a bit of stick round here, but I have found it to have a great tone, and is very high gain, letting me hit harmonics really easily.
-The stock neck pup was average, but in no way bad at all. Just a little muddy, and lacking in gain compared to the Dimebucker.
-The finish overall is excellent, I havent found any flaws in the body itself, although the surrounding silver bevel has a few places where the lines not totally straight, but its unnoticable from more than a foot away. Some of the binding on the fretboard edge is also uneven, but this cant be felt, and doesnt affect playability. The fretboard itself has very few flaws, but you may want to oil it up as it has a slightly dull, dry look about it.
The 30th Anniversary ML is almost identical in size to the RB, but is quite a lot lighter.
My overall impression of it is a lighter, cooler looking Les Paul Custom.
-The neck is a C shape, and is very thick, like a LP Custom. It seems to taper off a little towards the higher frets, feeling slightly flatter, like the top end of a regular Les Paul. The thickness of the neck at the lower frets is unusal, but fits incredibly snugly in your palm, and makes playing chords a wonderful experience.
-Both pickups are stock, and seem to be reasonably high output, although not as noticable as the Dimebucker. They seem similar to my Les Paul pups, but slightly hotter.
-The finish on the body itself is immaculate, and a work of art. Its a real beauty. The finish on the neck, bindings and fretboard however, suck pretty badly. This guitar was sold cheap because of a blemish on the headstock, and I dont know if blem-guitars often have multiple blems, but this has some nasty little flaws. None of which affect playability or tone, and are invisible to anyone besides the owner, so Im personally not that fussed. However if you are going to part with $800 and expect a flawless machine, do some checking in the store before you buy.
Now onto the A/B test.
I recorded both guitars directly into my pc via my Line 6 POD 2.0, using exactly the same setting for each guitar.
I tried to dial in a Dime-ish kinda sound, and did a poor version of pieces of Cowboys from Hell, and of course I had to screw up the solo at some point during both!
www.myspace.com/fleasbass
As you can hear, theres not a lot of diffrence in tone at all, although the POD may have something to do with that, but I doubt it.
-The ML initially sounds a little warmer and thicker than the RB, but listening to the chords (ie. the fast G bit, and during the solo) there is quite a lot more clarity. This is most likely due to the lower gain, but it is a really nice point about these pups.
-The Razorback has a little more bite than the ML, and the gain diffrence isnt that noticable, except for making the main riff sound slightly muddier than the ML, despite the extra treble. The Dimebucker is pretty beefy in the bass department when using palm mutes, which also takes away a little clarity from the main riff. The single note riff, and normal chords sound full of gain, and heavy as hell though. The real complaint I have with the Razorback, and you can hear this on the recording in the silences, is that the springs from the Floyd make a hell of a noise when you play the low E string. And the noise they make is a perfect B note, which makes tuning up tricky! This can be fairly easily fixed though, so no biggy.
So, after my incoherant ramblings, a conclusion.
Theres not a lot of difference between the two, and Im sure I could swap between both without having to change my rig or settings, and without noticing too much.
Basically it comes down to this;
ML - Thick neck, light weight, mid-high pups, great action, fixed bridge.
RB - Pointy V neck, reasonably light, hot-as-hell pup, good action depending how you set your floyd and truss rod, floyd rose whammy madness.
Both guitars are great, and Im so pleased with them. Now I just need a band to use them in!
this was practically given to me today!!?i dont really have any idea about banjos??the neck was broken off then reglued.it does have some cool inlay at the top but the non sealed tuners got me thinkin maybee its cheap!!anybody know what kind it is??if it doesnt end up being worth anything i was thinkin about throwin some strings on it and a pickup and krankin it up through my randall for fun!!
Hey guys check out my new youtube video of Stu Hamm's Star Spangled Banner! Any comments are welcome good or bad, i know i didn't do too well on it becuase we did it for a good hour and got fed up so we just put this one up but none the less it could be better.

Just wondering which guitars have the v neck, jumbo frets, and the upgraded floyd if it has one on it.
So far I think its the DFH CFH, and the Razorbacks, just wanted to know if I missed one.
Thanks in avdance for the info.
Trying to buy some recording equipment
I just got a Powerbook for School / Recording.
I wanna start recording some songs I have, so far all i need is a Microphone, Bass, Drum Sampling Program, FireWire Inerface Mixer, Headphones.
So far....
For a Microphone I gonna pick up a Sm57 since there somewhat cheap and 90% of everyone uses them.
Bass wise im gonna get a Demonator one of the 200$ ones.
I have no idea which Drum program I sould get im going towards Reason Drums and DFH.
Im thing of getting a Presonus FireBox for the Inerface but im not sure.
For headphones im getting the Yamaha RH5MA's, not sure if there gret or not.
Any tweaks needed on my list?
Noob Q; Rack rigs
by GrantS on Wed Aug 15, 2007 7:13 am
Hey there;
I've never understood the benefit of rack mounted rigs. Please help me to understand. Why would someone want an effects processor in a rack, wouldn't you have to physically walk up to the rack and dial in what effects you would want to use? How come not a pedal?
Are they good for getting several amps and mashing their sounds to get a super sound you like? Maybe there is something I'm just not understanding.
I know they are great for holding things like a wireless rack system, tuner, or EQ... but the amps and effects I don't think I have a handle on.
I play with a simple : Guitar --> Overdrive --> Wah ---> Delay ---> RG100ES ---> Cab
Also, what is the benefit of putting your pedals in the effects loop of an amp? I mean, access to them would be a bit difficult...
Surely there is something I have failed to understand.
Thanks in advance!

LA ink is a new show with Kat Von D from Miami ink.
Anyways last night they finished her new shop and it had some deans hanging on the wall.
It was just quick flashes so I could not make them out but it appeared to be 2-3 on one wall. A DFH/CFH or the baby version of it, A caddy and possibly a vendetta but could not see it very well.
Just thought it was kind of cool.
Wondered if Dean donated those guitars or something.
Budgie
by Wombat on Wed Aug 15, 2007 3:32 pm
I was driving home from work yesterday and heard a song by Budgie. I haven't heard them in decades! They played a song that Metallica covered on their Garage Days album. I used to have that cassette.
What a rockin song! I think it was a song from '73.
That was some crazy, heavy guitar playing from that era!
Does anyone else know Budgie?

I'm looking for a d60 or ul with eq, amps must be newer model years and in mint condition.
i remember there was a thread a couple weeks back about this, whether it owuld be a production model or not...
http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/74174
there, sorry if you knew it already, i wasn't keeping up with the thread
And it freaking rocked. The opening band was insane. They are working on a cd at the moment I met the lead player and he's a very cool dude and we talked guitars for a while. He uses EMG's and does the 18 volt mod. Pretty cool. Sweep picking and tapping was insane.
We we're in the 2nd row front and center. I was wearing my dime shirt. Godsmack played walk and showed Dimne on the screen it was awesome. i got a godsmack pic too.
Here's the opening act. I'm going to see them again in September.

I have not been around the guitar world long enough to know why someone would spend $25,000 on a guitar. Please explain. Is it meant to be like a showpiece someone's house or a museum... I mean if I spent that kind of money on a guitar I wouldn’t even let someone look in its direction.

Video of my TCV into my ENGL Savage
by flah on Thu Aug 16, 2007 7:44 am
So..... I had a little bit of time this evening and I was writing some tracks for my album...... and I was experiencing writer's block. So instead of writing riffs which I know I'm going to think are lame tomorrow, I decided to whip out the video camera and do a little bit of noodling.
The guitar is my Time Capsule V, using an Evidence Audio cable into my ENGL Savage 120 on the 4th channel, and into my Bogner 2x12. The audio is the crappy camera mic and you can hear the strings as much as you can hear the amp as it wasn't very loud.
Yes, it is pointless, but I wasn't going for any kind of point (other than playing fast).

tone marking

FINALLY I GOT GOOD TONE, IT MAY BE EVEN BETTER THEN THE TONE ON ANTIVIRUS' FINALE! I've always doubted my x2n but with these settings it really sings like no other! Rofl this struggle with tone I even thought about getting carlino to swap my mkh order for a vmnt, I tell you now thats nor gonna happen . Anyway how do you guys mark done that you have a good tone, Is there are substances that i can mark my amp head with so it dosn't leave a stain?

Tone question
by scott58 on Thu Aug 16, 2007 4:48 pm
Wasn't sure where to post this. I've got an digitech rp 300a with an effect called "tube 15" os there a dedicated pedal that makes this tone or is this some kind of amp model? Great sound but pedal fx's are better. If it's a pedal I want one.
A Jackson axe followed me home.
by Blazer on Thu Aug 16, 2007 8:36 pm
Well, my local shop was cleaning out their shelves and a new old stock Candy Apple red Jackson Dinky came out and 500 bucks later it was mine.
I'm gonna have fun with this one.
ive decided I want a VMNT. I need a guitar that doesnt have a floyd so I can change tunings easier, and i dont really like how ML's look with stop tail pieces
I have a few questions however;
1. When will they be released?
2. will they only be available in black and silver or will the imports come in other finishes?
3. anyone have some pics of the black and silver finishes?
4. what neck profile will they have?
thanks guys
EDIT:
5. how much will they cost?
Hey guys can anyone help me get a Megadeth tone like the one from rust in peace?? I have a Marshall Mg100 and A digitech grunge wich is really good for old Thrash and Speed Metal, and im also using my RB most of the time
I have been using Hearos HiFi ear plugs for a while now, but it hurts to put them in my ears far enough for them to be effective. I also use foam earplugs, and while fine for tractor work, muffle the frequencies too much for my liking when performing or watching concerts.
Anyone know of where I can get some ear plugs molded to fit me perfectly and keep the sound clear? I am not looking to drop $700 on a set of in-ear monitors, that is too far out of my price range.
I saw these guys tonight......They just killed. It was like being 14 years old again at my first concert. They hit every note perfect. Corey is in my opinion the best metal frontman to come along in years.
The best part though, was after the show Corey came out and hung out. For someone with as much talent as he has, he sure was easy to talk to and just a regular dude. I cant say enough good things about the man. He didnt know me from a hole in the wall but took the time to hang out and talk to me like I was a person, not just a fan.
If Stone Sour come to your town; go see them. You wont be disappointed. I sure as hell wasnt.
New Guitar Day! - ndc
by Flames on Fri Aug 17, 2007 12:03 pm
Hey guys,
Just got a new Washy FM 333 Rebel No. 48/48 from John at Funky!
It's one hell of a geet, bit heavier than my rb but way more comfy, I orginally was a bit disapointed that it was a bit more red than orange but then i turned around and looked in the mirror, THIS GUITAR SUITS ME SOO WELL! I am definetly going to give it time in performances with my next band, because I might be quitting my current band very soon due to it partly disbanding and there being nobody to replace the missing drummer.
THIS GEET HAS AWESOME TONE AND IS SOOO COMFY, I'M DEFINATLY BUYING A FEW MORE ML STYLE!
Jon shipped originally to the wrong address so luckily I looked at my email account for paypal! Got it redirected straight away and it was delivered today 5 days before it was expected! Unfortunatly the posties (postmen) wern't all that gentle on a fragile product. Got a few tiny dings and chips the worst is right under the FR where a a chunk has splintered off. Also the strap buttons are a bit iffy so i'm going to go to my local guitar shop tomorrow and buy strap locks and a new strap, I might eventually end up replacing the tuners aswell. Guys I wish I had take photos of the bubble wrap when i opened the box, IT WAS MUTILATED! I THOUGHT THE GUITAR WAS GOING TO BE TOTALED!
Also Marten (rottingcorpse) sent me a "care package" containing DR strings, pointy tortex picks and $20 us! Thanks man so much, I'll fly to DOA one year and buy you and Jon both a few drinks!
anyways I know you dying to see pron!, thanks Jon!:
Thanks Martin! NOW I'M A REAL MAN!:
I would like to thank Jon, Martin and the guys at UPS (even if they were a little rough) for the guitar, IT SHREADS LIKE A HOT KNIFE THROUGH BUTTER
KEEP ROCKING GUYS!

Baby ML vs normal ML
by Ebut on Fri Aug 17, 2007 3:20 pm
Hey dude's!
Anyone got a pic of a baby and a normal ML side by side?
And is it just the body, or is the neck smaller too?
I know it's smaller, but I'm wondering just how much.
Maybe got a sweet deal on one [startpackage] and was wondering how it looks.
I think the awesomness has finally sunk in.
I SAW @#$% SLAYER!!!!!!! jesus what a show! the intro to reign in blood was great!! but does hanneman ever palm mute during the fast riffs? sure didnt look like it to me.
Made a couple of bodies today
by Blazer on Fri Aug 17, 2007 9:24 pm
Remember my double neck?
That style really appealed to me so I began to fantasize about making a single neck version, so I contacted the guy I got the body sides from in aquiring more body sides to make guitars from and here's what I have been doing today..
From left to right:
Body 1. maple sides with a meranti mid section, destined to get the full BC Rich treatment with ten strings, dimarzio pickups and varitone.
Body 2. All maple, the ugly duckling from the bunch, so far I haven't got any ideas on what I'll do with this one.
Body 3. Same as body 1, this one will get strat pickups and a whammy bar.
Body 4. Padouc sides with a maple midsection. Definately the best of the bunch, I'll probably make this one into a fretless bass.

On Surfing with the Alien (the whole album) how does he get that smooth, harmonicy tone? Songs like Echo, Crushing Day, and the title track contain this sound...I just love.
I'm not looking to copy any of his gear or anything, I just want to be informed on how he got that awesome solo sound.

An MLF 79?
I'm looking to get one (and eventually get my wings!) when I come to the States in October, because they're so cheap! (about £275 w/ expenses of a Hardcase)!!!
1) How does it handle/play (in reference to a FBD played one the other day)
2) Is it worth sticking in a Dimebucker at the bridge?
3) Best finish?
4) How good is the Floyd Rose on it?
Thanks Guys

Almost bought a 1986 Fender today but...
by Blazer on Sat Aug 18, 2007 7:50 pm
Okay then today I was pretty stoked about doing some business. I had the plan to get myself a 1986 Fender japan Strat by trading in one of the guitars I don't play anymore. I had talked about the trade with the shopkeepers and that alpine white beauty was as good as mine.
BUT, as soon as I unzipped my gigbag and presented the near mint ESP guitar I saw the face of the shopkeeper cringe and I realised it was trouble. Deciding to grab the bull by the horns I asked "Okay, what's wrong, why do you think I can not do this trade?"
"Well you see..." he began "thing is, with Fenders and Gibsons I can give you a better deal because I know what it's worth, this one, in as pristine condition as it is, can be bought from the inport company for a lot less than your asking price and we're talking about brand new instruments. It's a deal I simply cannot do because it means a loss in profit for the shop and in our paychecks. And I don't want to saddle you up with a cheaper instrument because that would also be a loss for you."
I take a look at the Strat and take a look at the shopkeeper, who sees my extreme disappointment and tries to reason with me. "But if you really want to make this deal I can set this guitar apart for you and you'll have to wait until the manager gets back from vacation and he can do this deal with you."
"And how long do I have to wait?"
"Around two weeks."
Deciding that that was too long I told him to forget about the whole thing and I walked off. I stopped by the acoustic department and decided to vent my frustration by fingerpicking a Godin Nylon string. My buddy who allerted me on the Fender walks up and goes. "So did you get the guitar?" To which I told him what happened. "Strange we sell a dumpload of those axes, why wouldn't he make the trade your guitar would be sold withing a couple of days."
Deciding to not persue it I walked out and walked into a record store to buy "Kissology 2" DVD set so I could at least have some rare footage to watch later when I would get home.
BUT when I got it home, it was in the wrong region code so I can't watch it.
Oh please why couldn't I get a break today?
The Greg Howe competition is over!
The winner is presented here:
http://www.greghowe.com/forum/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=265
After the winning post, Howe was kind enough to also leave feedback about us runners-ups.
In my mind however, several of the posts that weren't even mentioned were better than the winner,
but I guess Howe was looking for a "mini-me" of himself this time lol
( I would have preferred a guy called wischi on youtube myself )
Cool though that me and my former room-mate Magnus, the only Swedes in the comp,
got honorary mentions
Over and out for tonight!
And have a great weekend guys!

Testament/Eric Peterson Appreciation Thread
Testament is an absolutely classic Thrash band. "The Legacy" and "New Order" are seminal releases, in league with Exodus, Slayer and Cliff-era Metallica.
Been listening to their more recent stuff - "Demonic", and "The Gathering" - and really loving them.
Eric Peterson has been the driving force of Testament from the very beginning. He also has a Black Metal styled side project band called Dragonlord, which kicks unholy amounts of ass.
Plus, he plays Deans:

New guitar day (NDC)

Last Sunday was my birthday and my lovely wife bought me a Squier 51 off ebay. Just got to my office about an hour ago and I'm a happy camper!!! Right out of the box this thing rips! I know I know, all you metal freaks are wondering why the geezer is so happy with a Squier. I'm a big Fender freak and always have been. I've owned about 15 mid level to cheap Deans and loved them all, but my heart belongs to Fender. Anyway, here's a pic taken about 10 minutes ago. Fortunately the neck pup is directly mounted to the body so this Godawful pickguard can disappear. The 51 is based on the Fender 51 P Bass from way back. As you can see it's got a Tele style control plate but the rear knob twists to select the pups, and the volume knobs is a push pull to split the humbucker, which sounds really good by the way. I had one of these before and had forgotten just how nice they are. The body is basically a hardtail Strat and is totally finished under the pickguard. Sealed tuners, big frets, I'm in Heaven.

Just been browsing because I've been seriously contemplating my first half stack purchase for a decent amp, and I came across this monster
looks rather spiffy and even more tempting for £599 for the head and cab.
opinions??

after all the amps i tried
i put alot of money down on a peavey 6505 today i got a killer deal on it to!!i actually tried every amp i could find first to!! muddy boogies,kranks,marshall,crate,b52 ect.its like a 5150 on steroids!!its got some serious low end crunch.im surprized it says peavey on it to tell u the truth!!im very impressed withe the different tones i was able to get with it to from clean to bluesy, van halen to the brutal metal crunch i like !!and no muddyness.the only thing that will suck is when it comes time to replace all them tubes theres 6 12ax7s in the preamp alone
Can anyone help me with the FR arm? it keeps coming out and i keep tightning it! i just need somethin to keep it from taking the plastic thing underneath it out, should i glue the plastic thing?
knowing the players i do who already use marshalls - old metallica, slash, zakk... i decided to do some research.
reason is, i saw velvet revolver on the 12th, and fell in love with slashs live tone. he uses his sig head, based on the 800.
im wondering if anyone has any playing time on any of the jcm 800s, and which models are the 'holy grail'ones. 1x12, 50 watt head, 100 watt head, i wanna know it all.
im not buying anything for a while, more jjust info shopping and price shopping as well.
thanks!!

Tuning with a floyd, can someone help me out
How do you guys with floyds go about tuning them? I end up sitting there for at least an hour trying to get the bastard in tune, everytime i think its in tune, i find one string is slightly out, so i tune it up, and another is out, and im at it for what seems like an eternity. is there a simple way to get tuned up fast? ive tried searching but google just brings up lessons on how to change strings, not how to actually tune up properly
Splawn comments?
by Rampage on Wed Aug 22, 2007 12:10 am
Well I have done a lot of amp switching over the past couple months. I went from my 5150 to a Mark IV then to a Powerball. I haven't been happy with any of these amps and I think the thing is that I am not a 6L6 guy. I thought that what I wanted was more gain when in all reality I wanted a different type of gain. So I have been trying out a lot of amps lately with EL-34s and I definitely think that the EL-34 pushed by a pedal like a Keeley Katana is the sound for me.
Well getting to the point I tried out a Splawn on sunday and I think this is actually the right amp. I am completely sick of changing amps chasing tones so I tinkered with the Splawn for about three hours with different effects, guitars and cabinets. I was wondering what others have to say about Splawn. I don't care how much input you have, whether it is good or bad, whatever. I just want to find the right amp and I think the Splawn could be it.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks!

Dean Hardtail Professional
Hi all,
I'm Mario from Turin, Italy,
proud Dean retailer and player too!
I have one question to ask.
One of my favourite Dean' model is the hardtail one,
so I'm playing my hardtail std from years.
I saw an advertising for a good business for an Hardtail Pro made in Usa, but the seller wrote that its neck is a v-neck profile.
I wish to know if it can be true,
if this neck is quite different from the other models (mine in particular)
and if it had been realized only for this model.
thank you very much.
M.
does anyone know where I can buy a black pup ring?
ive got a jackson rx10d and its been sitting in its case for the past few months doing nothing (I recieved it in error) so the other day I decided i was gonna start playing it, its not a bad guitar, apart from the fact the pups are a bit crap, it has a few spots of damage which occurred during shipping, and the pup rings are both cracked. ive ordered some new pups (BL L500XL for bridge, seymour duncan '59 for neck), and today i put a fresh set of 11 gauge strings on it and set it up in D standard. now, the '59 comes with a new black pup ring, but the ring that comes with the bill lawrence doesnt fit properly on imports for some reason, so i need a new black ring to go with it, can anyone direct me to a website which sells them? I would go with stew mac but the shipping is a lot for just 1 pup ring

hey guys. I know theres probably not a lot of Atreyu fans here. Generally I am not an Atreyu fan, I used to be a bit, but I saw them at Family Values 2 weeks ago and they played a bunch of stuff off their new album and it was really good. I found this leak vid on youtube. Its really different than all there other stuff. Try to be open-minded and give it a listen, its really good. its not emo, or screamo, or metalcore, this song sounds like good old 80's metal.

DO THIS FOR EVERY GUITAR IN THE DEAN LINE!!!!!
seriously, most of your biggest dealers (not counting gc or sam ash) are selling your guitars to customers sight unseen with little oportunity for their customers to hear or to play them in person. you got the youtube account, and i know theres at least one or two rippers working at armadillo.
so comon now, get it done, i really think this would help sell a ton of guitars. i tried to just sell a buddy of mine with no dealers in his area on a hardtail because ir looked like Benjamin Burnley's old guitar. but all we could find on youtube was not much good aside from mab vids (my buddy hates shredding). needless to say, hes not gonna now.
i really dont think this is asking a ton, you guys can totally do this.

Pickup questions: Dimarzio D-Sonic, Dean stock...
by funkify on Thu Aug 23, 2007 12:22 pm
I have a couple of questions about pickups that I thought you guys could help out with...
I changed the nut in my EVO to accommodate thick strings (up to .060) so I can tune down to baritone. However, sometimes I put my regular gauge in it (.046) for standard tuning.
I had been thinking about a Dimarzio D-Sonic for the bridge, and Dimarzio's site says that for downtuning punch you should reverse the direction of the pickup. My first question is (and this is mainly for those of you who own a D-Sonic)... If I installed the pickup in the direction for downtuning yet later used my regular gauge and standard tuning, how would that sound? Would I miss any mids or highs? How do D-Sonics do with harmonics?
My next question has to do with stock Dean pickups. I actually like the stock deans with coil taps that came with the Evo, but they have chrome tops. If I get a D-Sonic in the bridge, I want to put something else in the neck. I've got the stock zebra pickups from my 79 Z sitting around, and I was thinking of putting the neck pickup from it into my EVO.
My question about the stock Zebra Dean pickups that came with the 79 is, will I be able to coil tap them? Can you determine this by the number of wires connected to the pickup? And if so, how could I tell?

This track is the closing track for the new CD being recorded.
http://vov.tentenland.net/mp3/iw.mp3
It is titled "Immortal Walk", and it was written about a walk a had one night in the City, just taking in everything around me. The song just came to me that night, went home and wrote it. This is the final mix too.
Like I did with Kevin Holliman on the last record, where he played on "Nu Boogie Jam" with me for the solos, I had a new guest guitarist I met at one of or shows, play the solo on this one, his name is Mike Annan, and he is only 17. For the young guitarists on this board, listen to him and enjoy. He nailed it and took his time, the kid is talented. I play everything else.
Enjoy, and please let me know what you think about what I am doing for this next one, (keyboard work and whatnot) as you guys helped me alot with the last CD.
Love Yas,
J.A.
Owners of the XM,
I'm thinking of buying one, but wanted some input from people who already own one, is it really worth the money any complaints what are the high points, etc. Any input is gladly appreciated.

opening bid, possibly a reserve... These pics look shady, as does the lack of description - but he does have 100% feedback.
