It's not a tube amp but....
by BluesMan on Fri Feb 01, 2008 7:07 am
Ok I posted a few weeks back saying I was looking for a tube amp and I had around $1,000.00 to spend. Well after I checked out some of the ones I was interested in I decided to save alot of my cash and I bought a Roland Cube 30X. Now I'm sure your thinking,"WHAT THE HELL" but I have my reasons. First I'm not playing guitar in a band at the moment and second I just wanted a amp to jam at the house with. I had a Cube 30 once before and it was stolen, the Cube 30X now has a built in turner and some other cool features that wasn't on my other. What sold me is the sound, I can't believe how damn good it sounds for a solid state amp. It covers the sounds that I like and for $229.00 you can't beat the price. I feel I made the right decision cause I needed the rest of the money to pay on some medical bills so I'm happy.

Just posting this to send a big "thank you" to Bradworld!

I was looking for a vintage looking neck pickup for a project, and I came across a pickup on eBay, which was a Super2. He came forward telling me he had a Super2 somewhere and that he would send it to me. I asked him how much he wanted for it, and he sent it free of charge! Very Happy Pure coolness and class.

Thanks bro! Wink

Today I am learning how good my Deans are
by Jag Panzer on Sat Feb 02, 2008 4:58 pm
Today I am learning how good my Deans are!

All of my Deans are off being photographed this weekend (chicks and guitars photo session).

So I'm doing my daily practice session on my Brian Moore.

No offense to Brian Moore. I know they make some quality instruments and many people like them. But in my hands this guitar SUCKS compared to my Deans.

The neck feels goofy and weird. The fret height is all wrong. The balance isn't there and the tone is as aggressive as a wet noodle.

If you hear a 'man throws guitar through window' story, it's probably me.

Sitting with ML/Razorback
by Steve S on Sun Feb 03, 2008 5:49 am
Okay so when I sit with a razorback (in classical) I wrap my right leg around the spike bellow the input jack, to keep the guitar steady, and I find it very comfortable. However, I have not played an ML, and I cannot sit with an ML/Razorback, if I am not able to do this. There is much less space below the input jack on an ML because their isn't a spike - is it still possible to wrap your leg around it, without the cord being in the way? I need to know, because I'm looking into an ML, and their are no dealers around me with one to try for me to know, so I need to know if this is possible before I order one.

Treble Bleed/Volume Pot Mod?
by Anonymous on Sun Feb 03, 2008 3:38 pm
Someone got some information on this? I want to do this mod to my SG, but I don't know jack about it.

The only thing I don't like about it is the fact that when I turn down my volume for a lighter distortion, it loses it's high end and starts to get muddy.

Help?
"Duncan Designed" pickup quality?
by funkify on Sun Feb 03, 2008 4:43 pm
I see the "Duncan Designed" HB-101 is supposedly the same thing as the SH1 59 mode. Does anyone have experience with both the regular Seymour Duncan models and the "Duncan Designed" equivalent? Are they identical? Inferior?

I love the 59's smooth sound... I love the sweet harmonics I can get out of it... I want to replace the Jazz neck pickup in one of my guitars with a 59. I'm trying to figure out if I can use a "Duncan Designed" model for the same sound and feel, or if I need a for real USA-made 59.

Any advice?

What am i doing wrong??
by Dankfizzle on Sun Feb 03, 2008 8:32 pm
I have a razorback, and a les paul. I almost always play my epiphone over my sweet ass razorback because i cant find a comfortable position with the razorback. At first all i used was the razorback, and than i went back to the Les Paul. I was sitting with it like a normal guitar, not classical but that killlled my shoulder. For classical I cant find a comfortable position, it just kills my back that way because im like leaning over, and if i try to curl my foot around the bottom tip my foot is sideways which kills. So tell me how do i sit with my razorback!!!!?!?!?!?

Which is better, 5150 or Triple XXX?
by Serbusfish on Sun Feb 03, 2008 10:15 pm
OK, the time has come for to buy a keeper, a good amp thats gonna last me a long time. My budget is £600 MAX. I have narrowed my choice down to 2 amps, the 5150 or the triple XXX. Both on ebay go for around £500 - £600, and im currently unsure on which to get. I know they are both really great amps, but I need a bit of advice on which to go for (currently none are on ebay, still waiting for some to show up)

Basically instinct says 5150, ive heard in flames, machine head, bfmv, and their tone slays. But I like the tone killswitch engage has, and i just saw a vid on youtube with a guy using a Triple XXX and the killswitch tone was dead on. Can the 5150 get a similar sort of tone, or is it voiced too dark? Also, can the Triple XXX manage a darker in flames kind of tone, or is it voiced to bright? I know the Triple XXX is more versitile and has better cleans, but its the gain channel im interested in, which has the best and which would be the amp to go for?

by xixor on Wed Feb 06, 2008 1:20 am
Yo,

Seeking some advice from forum members who have undoubtedly been in this position.

If you've brought some songs to a group and should you go your separate ways, are there any steps that you should take to protect any of your rights? Should you even be worried really? In Canada there is SOCAN, the musicians union that you can join, and registered your songs, that is one method. I have heard that you can mail yourself a registered letter of your song and that will work?

Which always has been a favorite of mine. I sang and played everything myself.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/hyle9o

I recorded it using my Line6 Toneport and the instruments used were my Yamaha PSR2500 keyboard which was used to provide the drum sounds, an AKG microphone, my black maple neck 1989 Squier Stratocaster, my heavily modified Squier Affinity Telecaster and my Five string Custom Jan Knooren bass.

I probably don't do the song justice but I had a ball recording the song so I hope you guys like my version.

Pink Floyd Experience: The Pig Flies Again!
by defconfive on Wed Feb 06, 2008 4:24 am
The Pink Floyd Experience, a Pink Floyd cover band of the highest caliber, came to Gainesville today and played at the Phillips Performing Arts Center. I remember being very excited back in October when I found out the band was coming, but then realized it was on a Tuesday. I did not see the sense in spending good money on a weeknight concert when I did not know what my spring schedule would look like. It worked out all for the better though, as the remaining balcony seats dropped from $25 to $10 this afternoon.

The band put on a great show; tight as can be. They even sounded a lot like Pink Floyd. I may not ever get to see the real Pink Floyd, but this was close enough.

You'll have to excuse the railing that is in many of the pictures. We were not allowed to take any photos, so I had to be discrete. Laughing
I'm uploading about 5 minutes of Comfortably Numb and will post the link soon. Sadly, I had forgotten I had my 256 MB SD card in my camera and ran out of data space. Had I been using my 1 gig, we could have easily enjoyed all of the song.

Any ETA on natural Vendettas?

Jimi Hendrix Cry Baby?
by Harry P. Ness on Wed Feb 06, 2008 3:55 pm
Anyone tried one or own one? How do you like it and how does it compare to something like the 535Q, Zakk, or Dime wah? Jerry Cantrell uses one and he has one of my favorite tones so I figure it's worth looking into. My 535Q broke down on my after about a month so I'm going to SamAsh today to either replace or exchange it.
Soltero info please
by Anonymous on Wed Feb 06, 2008 4:14 pm
Does the Soltero make a good lapdog? Do they stay on the thigh? Or do you have to be Svelt like Elliott?!?! lol!!!

It's one of my major complaints, I need an axe that can be played sitting down, and is light enough to stand with.

The "original" Soltero is solid, where as the "New" ones are chambered for weight. I can't consider buying a 9 lb guitar, 8 max, anyone have a chambered one? Or lat least know about how much they weigh?

Has anyone got a gigbag for ML? I found this http://www.thomann.de/es/dean_guitars_gig_bag_ml_v_z.htm on the web and would like to know if it's a good quality bag.

Thanx very much

retard question about Line 6 PODs
by rridner on Wed Feb 06, 2008 7:37 pm
OK - here we go. I am not real big on "fancy" guitar gear. I use my guitar/an amp/and two pedals. I don't know a whole lot about these deals and am looking to possibly get one. are they basically a pocket sized practice amp w/ built in models, etc. can they sorta be used as pedals plugged into a bigger amp as well? I am looking to get a practice type amp and these have struck my interest. someone give me the lowdown. thanks
Really pleased with my tone, but....
by dirTrat on Wed Feb 06, 2008 9:36 pm
I am looking for a pedal to boost leads & solos. I am currently using an ML run through a Boss noise gate then boss 7 band EQ then finally through a Boss Metal Zone.I am looking at the BBE Green Screamer,Boss OD-3 OverDrive and the Big Muff Distortion/Sustainer. Any other suggestons, or coments on one of theese three would be a big help.

Thanks guys, let it rip!

Probably the wrong area to post this, but this is where everyone browses. Back to the main point;

So I ordered a Valveking...
by Dean_V on Thu Feb 07, 2008 3:54 am
Got tired of my Line 6 and after playing on a few amps at guitar center I decided that for the price, the VK was the best option. I've never owned a tube amp before so I just wanted to know if theres anything inparticular I should do to keep it in good shape. How often should tubes be replaced, should I use the standby switch when I'm not using the amp and all those n00bish questions Embarassed

Also, any tips from VK owners on how to get a nice metal tone out of it? I plan on geting an OD pedal soon but that'll be a few weeks down the road. Thanks in advance for all the help.

Amp/Pedal Question (boost)
by Dean_Lefty14 on Thu Feb 07, 2008 6:03 am
ok, so i have a crate and its got the "solo" channel and it has extra "Boost", now i know what it does... well not what it does, but what it changes... and i love it.

my question is... what IS "boost"?? what does it "boost" up? and is there any type of pedal i can get to give me MORE boost?

what i notice is in the rythem chan there is really light distortion, then the solo channel has uber distortion and the boost gives it a really big punch to the tone... im really bad at explaining cause i dont know what half of it actually does.

but yes, my question is what does the boost actually boost up?
and is there a pedal i can get to give me more?

- Jake

p.s. i know i dont know what im talking about, dont flame, i just need answers plz

School Guitar Competition!
by PLOP! on Thu Feb 07, 2008 9:58 pm
Hey guys!

Just played in our schools guitar competition-12 people entered...4 got into the final.....and I'm one of them! I played "In The Fire" by RoadRunner United and got 5 points out of 5!

But i have a problem. We generally have to play the same peice for the final. I have three weeks to perfect this song as much as I can...but I was told that my problems (the judge told me this, hes NOT a fan of rock/metal) that the song was too showy, with not enough variety in it...he actually thought I made some of it up (i can assure you i didnt)

So, basically, we're supposed to play the same song but we can change if we want.

My question is...can someone suggest a good song to play for this, something showy, thats roughly 5 minutes long

OR

give me advice on how to improve this song?

Cheers!

Which pedal?
by AXeL9876 on Fri Feb 08, 2008 2:05 am
so...

my b-day is coming up and I'm basically asking for hardly anything than a few pedals...
I'm just curious though what the people here at the Dean forums would recomend for my pedals...
I'm getting an equalizer, wah-wah, and delay...
so far I'm set on getting a DUNLOP wah-wah (don't know which kind, leaning towards a 535Q)...
a BOSS delay (DD-5 or DD-6)...
and either a DUNLOP MXR 10-Band Equalizer or a BOSS GE-7...

I'd really appreciate any opinions that have experience with preferably two or more of the pedals but anyone's opinion is also greatly appreciated...

btw...
I use a Metal Muff with Top Boost Distortion pedal...
just to see if this might affect somebody's opinion...

by Lanning is Killdozer on Fri Feb 08, 2008 3:27 am
So what is your take on this? I say a guitar isn't really yours till you show it some love. If you have a collectable that you just like to admire and you just play it at home and it's all perfect then I understand. I think putting your MOJO into it is what makes it play just right.

by soliloquy on Fri Feb 08, 2008 4:40 am
i've been to numerous sites searching about dean guitars and all. and majority of them follow dean zelenski(sp) and not the company. so i'm just wondering, when dean(the guy) started making instruments in 89-2000, what happened to the guitars? they were still being manufactured right?

and the other question is about the ml/v/z selects. when were they taken out and replaced by the 79' series?

My Engl is Freaking out on me!
by aus-rotten on Sat Feb 09, 2008 7:37 am
Well 2 days ago I was playing on my Engl Fireball and my amp started to thin out, and the overdrive sounded like there was the worse Pitch Shifter on it and a Loud Increasing Hum appeared.

I thought it was my Power Tubes were done so I got new Ones today and Its still and the Loud Humm and The overdrive Sounds like Hell!

I checked the cabinet, cables, tubes everything is fine. One thing that I thought was wierd is that on ENGL's You can still play on stand by, and the amp sounds fine on stand by, But once I turn off the stand by its back to the humming and such.

What the hell is going on.

Pedals Questions?
by CFH_SDMF on Sun Feb 10, 2008 3:45 am
I'm going to be selling my Ibanez tomorrow and I want to pick up some pedals. I was looking at these but I don't know anything about them and i want some reviews from people who have used them. I'm going to be running them through my Spider Valve 112, and using a DFH. MY amp has a nice tone, but sometimes it's hard to get the tone i'm looking for. And I don't want a bunch of people tell ing me to get a better amp, cause i don't need one. Im just trying to tighten my tone up.

First one:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/BBE-Sonic-Stomp-Pedal?sku=157030

How good is the Sonic Maximizer? Is really worth the extra $100.

Second One:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/MXR-M109-6Band-Graphic-EQ?sku=151103

I really want to get an EQ pedal, I think it will help me with my tone. But is the MXR a good one or do ya'll have a better suggestion.

Third One: Would be a Wah pedal, which that depends on how the wah on my FBV pedal will sound.

Thanks in advance. Very Happy Very Happy

Weight of my guitar
by Inf3rno on Sun Feb 10, 2008 6:37 am
The other day I was playing my friend's RB and noticed it was much lighter than my RB V. He even had a bullet strap which added a little bit of weight, whereas my strap is just leather. I found it very noticeable since after a while my shoulder begins to hurt because of the weight distribution of my guitar. Why is the RB which has less wood noticeably heavier than my V if they are both made out of the same types of wood?

PS. sorry if this is a noob question I just don't know

I'm going to buy one of them in matter of weeks. Anybody got any experience on them? I'm especially interested on Pocket Pod, due it's pretty new release and has more presets on it and also has an cd/any-player input channel on it.

Yes yes it's more important to play than look, but seriously, power stance.
New DIY pedalboard / Amp trolley / personal rant
by Anonymous on Sun Feb 10, 2008 3:54 pm
I've been doing some DIY work this weekend.
Below theres a picture of my new wheeled pedalboard and 5150 trolley.
The pedal board is not completely finished yet, as it will have a fixed power outlet with an on/off foot switch that will control the power on the whole thing.
It is also still missing the ISP Decimator (on order) and a Phaser but that will come in time...

Image

Other subject is that I will be taking some time off the forum.
Not that 99.9% of you care about this, in fact some might even cheer, but it seems I'm not enjoying it as much as I used to and a few noobish minds here have been really getting on my nerves, and not only on the public or "open" forum area.
I used to come here to learn things, share experiences and enjoy myself. Lately it's been hard to come here and not being pissed at some people, human stupidity and general dumbassity.
Apart from a few OG's exceptions there's not much more interest for me here at this time.

I'll be lurking from time to time until the forum is cleansed or Dean steps up to manage some details that have been putting me off from their guitars lately...

Thank you

Cool

Here we go again... bass amp help!
by -JiMi DRiX- on Sun Feb 10, 2008 9:12 pm
another long story short, I've decided to get a 4x10 ampeg bass cab to replace the 2x10 ampeg cab in my bass rig because the wattage on my amp is too much for the speaker setup right now. I have a single 15in on the bottom, but I'd like to keep that there.

wattage, ohms, outputs.. im not very keen on it all.

this is the 15in i have
http://www.ampeg.com/products/classic/svt15e/index.html

I have a head just like this one i found on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/Ampeg-B500DR-500W-Programmable-Bass-Head-GREAT-COND_W0QQitemZ120220725177QQihZ002QQcategoryZ121156QQcmdZViewItem

and my 2x10 is a 300w 8ohm cab, but i cant find a link to it anywhere because its an old discontinued cab (ampeg no longer makes any 2x10)

What i need is something higher in power, because if I think I know this correctly, my speakers are not of high enough wattage to handle the 500w head, and when cranked a little too high, my 10's clip sometimes. the 15 has always been just fine.

a 10x8 ampeg cab would be nice.. BUT I REALLY like the 15. Unless some of you bass guru's can sway my opinion. otherwise, what 4x10 would be good to go with my 15, still sound kick ass and be compatible with my head?

a couple of questions!
by Loganator456 on Mon Feb 11, 2008 2:13 am
Sorry, this will sound really below 70 IQ type, but it's been bugging me really bad.

Now I probably wont need these, but I know that in arena concerts, or gyms, etc. there are multiple full stacks running at the same time but i cant find a way to split the output at all, and I've searched, so could someone help me? Thanks in advance, and sorry for the below 70 IQ question. Embarassed

2nd, while I'm asking, will people call me a Dime sheep if I have a Randall stack and a ML? It's not that I'm not a huge Dime, and pantera fan, and I wouldnt be ashamed at all, but is that what general people think?

3rd and last, what, in your opinion, is a good guitar wireless system that relativley cheap?

EVO identification
by TheBrokenOne on Mon Feb 11, 2008 3:16 am
This is my first post!

I was wondering if someone can help me out id'ing this evo. Im gonna describe it from the best of my memory it had a green trans finish with a flame top and what looked to be a mahogany back. It was a set neck the logo was made out of abalone i think it had 1 volume and 1 tone, 3 way switch, and what looked to be a split coil switch not sure though. It looked and played great but I didnt plug it in it had a few chips in it. And do you think $100 is a good price for it?

Thanks!

Anyway I got my V from a fellow member. Traded an old Jackson RR3 for it. Hot damn I couldn't be happier! This guitar is AMAZING.
The binding is beautiful and the neck is perfect. Don't even get me started on the flame top. I'm usualy big on solid colors but just look at this thing!

Dream Guitar
by Douce on Mon Feb 11, 2008 5:31 am
Hey hey, this is my first post on here, though i've always checked the forums out, since I first started checking the deans out (since about when I started playing guitar, aha). Figured it was about time I joined up on here, even though I havn't gotten my wings yet. I'm still deciding between a Schecter Revenger FR, or a Razorback DB; the closest Dean dealer is in Toronto, about 2 1/2 hours away from me, and so I've only ever gotten to play a Dean once, when I went with my girlfriend to Steve's Music in Toronto (she lives right outside TO, so she goes to Steve's all the time). I tried a Dime O Flame, and a Razorback 255, but the action on both were terrible, and I wasn't digging the V neck's at all, but i'm still hoping I can find a Dean that feels right, cuz I absolutely love em. Which, btw, if anyone can point out any Deans (ML/Razorbacks) that have C neck profile instead, that'd be really helpful.

Any, to the point, just figured i'd post a picture I put together on paint (thats right, im far to old school for this photoshop #$%&#@). It's just about my dream guitar, if you threw on the LTD style, upside down jackson headstock, though I think the Dean headstock still looks pretty Flappyfleep. Also, make the bottom wings the same as a Razorbacks, and throw on my dream inlays (Roman numerals from 1-22) and your good to go. Oh, and get an OFR on there as well Cool

Hello Dean guitarists, first post on the Dean forum, yep im a noob
Something has really been bothering me latley, about my love for deans and how i never PLAYED A DEAN!! I hear alot from the artists about how the playability is awsome, but tell me everyone, whats your dean model? and how is it like playing a Dean? if u look at my avatar you'll see im holding the DFH, when i first picked it up i knew i'd love that guitar, i just had this feeling about Deans, when i tried to play it, it seemed out of tune, so i messed with the whammy bar and suddenly it seemed like it was tunning itself, funny huh?
so i just put it down cuz i had to leave soon.
Soooooo? hows a dean like? Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Advantages of using 2 cables with a stereo amp?
by Serbusfish on Tue Feb 12, 2008 12:28 pm
My Randall RH200SC is a stereo amp, meaning it has 2 sets of speaker out jacks on the back. Ive been told that if I use 1 cable like im doing atm, the head has 100 watts of power. If I use a second cable, i'll get 200. But apart from this, will using 2 cables affect the tone at all? How will I benefit from using 2? As im running into 1 cab I dont see how it would make much difference, but I dont know much about it so i could use some feedback from those who have had experience with these heads or other stereo heads. Im considering getting a second speaker cable but it will set me back £12, so please let me know whether I should or not, dont wanna waste my money if im not gonna benfit from it Smile

were talking about a 1000$ for a cadillac 1980, good that i snagged my 79ml cheap. and its way too much. these are the prices on dean-but even ibanez is like 1200 for a prestige. there is only one guitar shop that brings in normal prices and they have guitar that arent really in my style(dipinto,Reverend, cole clark...)
do any of you guys know what can i do? i cant discounts from my teacher but its still about 900for the cadillac 1980, which is way out of hand.

Why is my hand going numb? EDIT: picking hand
by scot2272 on Tue Feb 12, 2008 5:50 pm
Not sure what i've changed yet,and it must be an intermittent problem, but i must be doing something different. Over the last couple weeks, almost every other day when i play my picking hand goes numb, primarily the fingers first and then the rest of the hand, which is exactly why I'm taking a break right now. Just not sure what bad habit i'm picking up.

Edit: this is my picking hand we're talking about, not fretting hand.

Greetings!

I'm new on this forum, and this site itself. I had never heard about Dean guitars before i visited this site. What i've read and heard from friends, your guitars are pretty good. My question though is: How good are the electric-acoustic guitars? I'm a pretty skilled guitar player who mostly plays acoustic with quick finger-plucking. I am looking for a decent electric-acoustic guitar for a decent price.
Right now i only have a beginners guitar (acoustic). A standard spanish model. It's quite good, but i want something more.. professional. I checked out the "Performer E" and i liked it. Now i just need someone to confirm that That is the guitar for me.

Answers are appreciated.[/b]

It's been a while, but new amp day!
by Metal_et_al on Wed Feb 13, 2008 4:46 pm
Actually, Friday was new amp day, I just haven't had time to post about it.

I had given all of my old amps except for my Line 6 to my nieces, and it had gotten to the point where my son and I were having to take turns on the Line 6, which wasn't working out Twisted Evil A good excuse to shop for some gear, any way.

I had received the Sam Ash book Thursday night and saw a pretty cool looking Hartke half-stack. The price was listed @ $179, which I thought must surely be a typo. The model is a GT60P. It's not really a mini stack. Maybe more along the lines of a small half stack. It's a 60watt head with a real tube preamp and a 4 x 8 cabinet.

Of course when I went to the closest Sam Ash there were none left, and none showing up in anyone's inventory. Bummer. I asked if the price in the book was correct, and he said yep, it's a close out. Hence the lack of inventory.

I decided to call the other Sam Ash that's next to the Kapok Pavilion, aka DOA Party Central. The guy said the computer says no, but I say maybe. He checked it out and sure enough, there was one new in-box and the demo on the floor. I took my son with me and we went and checked out the demo unit.

Sold! For $179, are you freaking kidding me? I haven't had the opportunity to really test it out, but I will say this: it is one loud motherfvcker of an amp. I haven't taken it past 2 yet as in the small room where it is located , 2 is room-filling (or room emptying!). THe only effect pedal I could scrounge up was a piece of crap "metal" Dan Electro pedal that I had given to the nieces but temporarily borrowed back 'cause I needs me some nasty distortion. Even the cheap-ass pedal sounds good through this amp. I think I'll be hitting Jody's this weekend to check out the Behringer knock-off pedals.

Made a recording of my playing
by Warlock_340 on Thu Feb 14, 2008 5:21 am
Very simple crap of just some riffs that I came up with and figured why not record them while their fresh in my head.

The first riff is actually something I came up with a while ago. My whole life I had that riff playing in my head as the riff I would think of when I heard 'Heavy Metal', so when I got decent, I played it on guitar.

The rest is just crap I came up with, power chords, something EVERYONE here can do. Sorry if they're unoriginal, and please excuse the F ups in there. When I was recording this I couldn't remember a riff I did like a minute before hand and was just trying things that were like it, but never really got it.

But, it's a recording of my Tone. I'm using my ESP EX-50 in the bridge pup position (SD JB) in standard running straight into my Crate 120 212.

But, with no further delay, here it is.

http://www.mediafire.com/?84dd0xigs24

Please, constructive criticism is more than welcome, just try not to say anything too harsh.

And yeah, I can do more than just riffs like this, for the record. I don't suck THAT bad. Laughing

About damn time for another guitar.
by Vince on Thu Feb 14, 2008 8:09 am
I got my job today and start on Monday.

$23.12/hour Twisted Evil

i deserve a new USA Dean.

but, now to figure out which one i want..

i have a 79ML right now. and i usually use heavy gauge strings..like 58-14 or whatever gauge i Macgyvered up this time. and its usually its tuned to B and sometimes D standard but right now its just in standard..yea, standard with 14's.. Twisted Evil
im gonna leave the ML for the low tunings and have a second guitar, a NICER guitar, for standard tunings.

i dont want another ML, and no V's or Z's yet either.

i really like the Solteros, and i want a guitar that i will almost want to just stare at with my jaw dropped to the floor. that Leslie West Soltero that was posted about a week back was beautiful, it looked like glass! so smooth and you just know it sounds great too.

i'm really thinking about an exotic too though. like an exotic USA hardtail..

its gotta be really nice though because after buying the USA, its gonna the last guitar i can afford for a while with rent and such.

so any help on what i should choose.

im looking for classy. like something that a granny would hang on her wall its that classy looking.
and i already know that being a USA, it will sound good, so thats not even an issue.
i play rhythm mostly, but it would be nice to have really good access to every fret.

these are some that im thinking of..
i wont have a half-assed flame or quilt or exotic top either. its gotta be near perfect, and i know it can be done, i've seen good ones.

anyone know a cure to a stiff picking hand? I can do tremolo picking easily, but have a hard time transferring from string to string really smoothly. I've been trying to finish the Mouth for war solo but the part after the 21th fret bends is what I couldnt do really clean. Is there any way or trick to make this way easier?
Talk to me about the Bill Lawrence L500
by yngzaklynch on Thu Feb 14, 2008 3:39 pm
I'm very interested in the Bill Lawrence L-500-XL. I've heard that they can be very inconsistant and harsh. But I love my Dimebucker and I figure they're similar. I would get another Dimebucker but I need one in white and SD won't make them in white. So I'm looking at the BL pickup. Anyone use these? Thoughts?

Question about pickups/wiring/guitar changes
by This Dougs For U on Thu Feb 14, 2008 5:48 pm
Hey guys, I know we have alot of experts on here, so I'll tell you my situation.

I just got Cadzilla (it has a JB/Jazz combo). I normally gig with 2 Gibson Les Paul Standards. I also have my BB Dean V with an Alnico Pro 2 in the bridge. Here is my question.

I cannot simply change from Deans to Gibsons during a gig. The Gibsons sound so much louder and ballsier, that when I switch to my deans, my sound gets very soft comparatively and I have to adjust all different levels to get rig back up to volume.

What do I have to do to the Deans to get more output ? I'm well aware the Gibsons have what I'm sure are better pots, wiring, exc.. Is that what I need to upgrade on the Deans to get them to match volume ?

I'd love to be able to use Cadzilla with my LP Standard at gigs, but right now I can't do that without a major headache.

Thanks,

Doug
off topic- hows the snow in your area?
by soliloquy on Thu Feb 14, 2008 5:56 pm
%$#@! the what?! i'm pissed at those weather network people. they say 'oh yeah, it will snow about 2 cms in your area'. and then the snow storm hits, and we have 20 cms of snow.

hows your area doing with now?

there was no snow storms in january. one snow storm in december that snowed about 30 cms of snow. so that wasnt too bad. February hits, and its only the middle of the month, yet Ontario Canada has aready seen about 6-8 snow storms. so we are getting hit by snow storm once every 24-36 hours. our front yards have snow that is going slightly higher than 7 feet due to build up.

i like snow, but if its this much, i'm dead! my body is just in pain! i wanna go on strike!

i'm sure some of you are pissed/annoyed coz of late shipments due to snow too

Floyd Rose Tremolo Problem
by Lee2by4 on Thu Feb 14, 2008 9:54 pm
Hey,

i got my Razorback V the other day, great guitar and all, but the Floyd Rose seems to be sticking to one position. By that i mean you play about with the bar, and if you let go of it sometimes the tremolo goes back a bit further than it should, which is making the guitar sound higher than it actually is, so then i have to place it back using the bar.

Any help??

Upgraded Guitar Lessons for Myself
by Hot Sauce on Fri Feb 15, 2008 4:56 am
Well, after taking some lackluster lessons for 2 and a half years and playing on my own for almost another 2 and a half, I think i'm doing pretty good for myself. BUT, i'm lacking in knowledge of theory and technical skill. There's a guy about 20 miles from my house that was taught by SHAWN LANE that is offering lessons to advanced players. He is a GREAT player. I'm really considering to lessons from the guy. He's supposedly a very cool dude.

New amp.. Randall RH100?
by Ebut on Fri Feb 15, 2008 10:46 am
Dudes!

I need replacement for my Marshall MG100HDFX [too Marshall for me] and I've been looking into a Randall RH100.

Now, I figured some of you guys here might have one, so here we go:

-Is it any good when crancked?
-Is it any good without an EQ pedal?
-I play hardrock, punk and a little metal, suitable?
-What about the average sound/looks/reliability?

Any tips, suggestions? Should I go for it or look for something else?

Re-amping??? Does anyone do this?
by Jag Panzer on Fri Feb 15, 2008 6:18 pm
I'm thinking of picking up an X-Amp or Red Eye and doing some re-amping. Has anyone done this?

What is re-amping? It's recording your guitar signal direct to tape using a DI box. Then you play it back through a re-amp box and back to your amp. As far as your amp knows, it's playing a signal right from your guitar.

The benefits - You can experiment with different amp settings, mic placements, etc. You can try different amps and cabs as well.

This isn't modeling or anything digitial at all (unless you record digitally).

Imagine having a clone of you playing a guitar part all day while you get to dial in tones, change mics, etc. You basically can work on your sound all day.

This is very popular in high studios and I'm going to start trying to myself.
Confused about cleaning a rosewood fretboard
by Larsson on Fri Feb 15, 2008 7:54 pm
Hi!

As the topic reads, i am very confused about how i should clean a rosewood fretboard. Thing is that my rosewood fretboard is pretty dirty and if i use some strong light, some small cracks are appearing on the ninth fret (e). So, i also want to oil the fretboard since it seems to have gotten dry.

So, i've been reading and reading and one expert is telling me one thing, and the other tells me another thing. Wich way is the correct way to do it?

1) Get rid of the dirt by using only a microfiber cloth. When the fretboard is clean, apply some lemon oil and let it dry over the night.

This was what i was first told. Then i heard that lemon oil actually dries out the wood?

2) Get rid of the dirt by using lemon oil AND microfiber cloth. Then apply some fretboard oil and let it dry over the night.

Wich is the correct way to do it?
Guitar Show & Tell Day at work!
by BradWorld on Fri Feb 15, 2008 8:08 pm
I work in a really cool place. We do exhibits, trade shows and theme park stuff. As a result of having so may cretive people around, a lot play guitar, etc. We all keep guitars and amps in our offices and jam regularly. A bunch of the guys in our graphics department play guitar. This dude Jay got a new BC Rich Mockingbird. So we had a little show & tell session at work today. The Mockingbird is really nice. I have played a few of these new ones, and this one plays better than the ones I tried at the local GC. Of course I had to bring in my Cadzilla. So here is some Quilty Pron. Check out the guitar logos on the office wall. Among other things, you can see some Dean wings behind us!

Anyone tried any of the new Bugera amps yet? I saw on another forum someone has one of the 6262 combos, but he didnt give a very good review of it. He just said the clean was nice and the lead channel had a lot of gain, but he didnt really comment on the tone.

Ive checked prices over here and the 6260 head is only £344. Now correct me if im wrong, but this particular head is supposed to be a 5150 clone right? If so then ZOMG!!!1!!11!!1ONE!1!!! Laughing Laughing

Installed some Schaller Strap Locks on a bolt on
by Warlock_340 on Sun Feb 17, 2008 12:02 am
I know theres people here who are having trouble putting Schaller Strap Locks on MLs and such. Well, I have done it... to my ESP, which but uses the same joint as an X series Dean or so.

First off, I have to say these things own. Much easier to remove the straps and just feels more solid.

Basically, what I did was remove the plate off the back of the neck. Then I took a drill with a 1/2" bit on it and drilled a hole on the forward position of it. For this, I drilled it down so that it was a crater with maybe a 1/4" hole at the bottom, then got out a dremel tool and finished it off like that, giving it a smoother look and wasn't as dangerous then holding the plate down with my bare hands while the bit could catch the metal at any time and cause me some pain. Once the hole was drilled, I put the plate back on, and took the button of the lock and made a pin hole crater in the middle of it, then took a 3/32" bit and drilled down about 3/4", maybe a tad more, then just screwed on the strat button and bam, a solid mounted Schaller Strap Lock on a bolt on and no lost screw length in the wood.

Gonna do it on the ML Noir tomorrow.

Just wanted to share that. Cool

2-Way Truss Rod Adjustment
by Dusty Rhodes on Sun Feb 17, 2008 9:23 pm
I was experiencing some back bowing issues with my 2002 USA HardTail to the point where all of the tension is now out of my truss rod adjustment. Sam Ash kicks ass!
by Scrapnasty on Sun Feb 17, 2008 10:53 pm
So I went to check out the not so local Guitar Center today. The folks said they saw one while out driving. Well directly accross the street was a Sam Ash store. I'd never been inside one so I decided to check it out.

Holy hell that place is awesome! Huge store with a ton of stuff. Lots of ESP's and some Dean's. Bunch of Gibbo's and Ibanez. I was dissapointed that they didn't have any Razorbacks but they had a Moser Bastard V.

I was in heaven. I also tried out the Peavey Valveking after hearing so many great reviews about it. It was pretty good but then I fired up the 6505+ next to it. Hell yeah! That was the sound I wanted.

I'm going back this week to trade my X2 in towards the Peavey. Hopefully I'll have enough for a straight trade.

Just wanted everyone to know, if you have the chance to visit one you should! Guitar Center sucks compared to these guys!

I wish I was in the position to do this but the thought had just crossed my mind. I know vintage Deans can pull a pretty pricetag at times but it seems as though vintage Les Pauls can get some crazy high numbers.

If you got a USA Gibson Zakk Wylde camo guitar which MAPS at $4399 and a USA Rust Razor for $3699. Put them in the case in a climate controlled area and left them 30 years. Which would you think would be worth more money? Since each of those guitars used go for considerably less than MAP, do you think these metal guitars would be worth more in the long run?

dime floyd vs. 79 floyd
by soliloquy on Mon Feb 18, 2008 3:35 pm
just curious about its fine tuners. i was trying out that FBD guitar in a guitar store, and what amazed me were the fine tuners on that guitar. they were so smooth, and they were fairly thin, so even when they were up against the bridge, you could still move em around.

just curious if the bridge found on the 79mlf has the same fine tuners? or if they are more comparable to that of original/licence floyd rose?

how do agiles play? how do they stack up quality wise and what brand would you most compare how they play to?

i'm thinking of pulling the trigger on this awesome RR shape set neck agile.

the intonation on my FBD slipped...
by Groet on Mon Feb 18, 2008 4:44 pm
...during a concert that I did recently, and all the strings were suddenly out of tune by several notes. sucks, but it was pretty priceless really, you should've seen the looks of the rest of my band's faces as I come in on the first powerchord of the chorus after my solo (where I blew the darn thing): "HUH??? Shocked " Laughing

it's cool, I haven't been to gentle with my floyd, but the local guitar store only have replacement parts for OFRs, and apparently, the screws that hold the intonation in place (what're the called?) on Dean's licensed floyds are a tad bigger than on the OFR.

singlehandedly messing up the show for the rest of the band wasn't too cool, but I'll say it was pretty funny nonetheless, the way that last chorus sounded Laughing and besides, I think I've learnt from this, and perhaps even others can learn from my whopping blooper:

-next time, buy a floydless axe, or atleast stick to OFR's
-always bring a backup-geet to a show.

thatisall, rock on, good people.
New Guitar Day(NDC)

Well I scored a KH-503 for $249 used today. From a local shop. I figured it is a pretty good deal, the stock pickups where swapped out when the shop got it, other than that it just need some cleaning, and a new set of clamps for the nut which they order for me at no extra charge. Well here is pron of my 15th guitar(I'm running out of room in my bedroom, time to start taking over the living room.

Well it plays great and the neck joint is so frippin sick, and has amazing upper fret access, only one problem wrong company logo on the headstock, it needs some wings. lolz

The $100 Bel Aire showed up today. The box was pristine, and the guitar was packed rather well. I was happy to get this here in good shape. It's an 83 (has serial stamped on heel. It's a very dark blue, and has some checking and other signs of aging. The bridge pup was just sitting in the body but worked.

The guitar plays rather decently. The neck is great, but the frets are kinda small. I need to find a nice piece of wood to block the trem with and it will be a great beater guitar.

Got this cheap on the bay. Needs a bar and the locking nut saddles (looks like the guy who had it did not want to or did not know how to set up the trem so removed the nut saddles and the bar!).

Other than those two things, it is in great shape. I already have a bar but will need to buy the parts for the nut (or a new complete locking nut)

I'm in the market for one but have not had the opportunity to try it out. I would be interested to hear both pros and cons from the ones on the board who own them. I believe I've seen only a few owners here.

A couple of burning questions I have:

Would it be a trusty replacement to my Gibson Les Paul Standard? How are the pickups in general and is the neck carve an option?

I play mainly blues and classic rock.

Thanks!

Hellyeah/Machine Head Concert
by Toast on Wed Feb 20, 2008 2:35 pm
Alright nonpoint was the only opening band tonight in Des Moines because Bury Your Dead got held up by weather and couldn't make it. Nonpoint was an ok opening band. The bassist was probably the best part about the band for how much stage pressence he had during the show. They only had their one single that I had ever heard (Bullet With a Name) that stood out to me. Next Machine Head came on. Probably the best band of the entire night. There was so much talent coming from those dudes finger tips as they played it wasn't funny. The entire crowd seemed to have come for Machine Head anyway. When the pits started it engulfed about 50% of the floor. Those were probably the craziest I had ever seen from any concert. Rob Flynn seemed stunned that the entire crowd knew every word to every song. And they seemed to be trying their hardest to get everything perfect because of it. Next came Hellyeah. I only stayed for about half of their show because a friend of mine got ill and I had to take him home. But from what I could see from it Chad Gray is an amazing frontman while Tom maxwell was just a good guitarist all around. Over all this concert was probably one of the better ones I have been to if not the best.

Fretboard wear?
by Rude on Wed Feb 20, 2008 7:09 pm
I have a Epiphone Bullseye LP custom and I have to say that I am really impressed with the quality and tone of the axe.

I have only been playing it for about 6 months, but it looks like the fretboard is getting worn at the second fret. Nothing drastic, but it looks dryer and the grain is more definate.

What do I need to do to keep the fretboard in good shape.

It almost looks like my fingernail is causing it even though I trim my nails way short they still hit the board sometimes.

Is it as simple as applying some sort of wood conditioner?

What should I use?
Splawn Amps....
by 4x12 on Wed Feb 20, 2008 7:20 pm
What do you guys think of them ? A few guys I know have been looking into these these last few months and most recently another friend was telling me he was getting a Splawn Nitro and raved bout it. So after a few minutes of chit chat I got online and checked out the Nitro on youtube, and I was really surprised at the tone this mofo had. The one clip that really stood out was with Scott Splawn testing the amp out. Great tone dudes... very Zakk Wylde/BLS'ish!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFEd342t5Ig

So I was wondering what most of guys thought about them... I heard the QuickRod once and wasnt impressed by it overall. But the Nitro is something else.

Hey, I'm recovering from Montreal's Flogging Molly concert..., WOW Shocked best show I've seen in a while. The suprise of the night was the opening band, they were awesome, good videos on youtube, but none do them justice, the live show was killer.

The singer says this is a 73 year old geet, the top looks like steel, live it had an awesome sorta Muddy Waters sound to it. Anyone know what kind of guitar this is?

Volume increase with effects loop?
by Benthic_Pig on Thu Feb 21, 2008 3:11 pm
Hey peeps,

I was experimenting today with my effects loop on my randall warhead. I was aiming to hook up a mxr delay/flanger to the effects loop to see what the sound difference was.

Trouble is, as soon as I use the effects loop, I get massive changes to my sound - for one, I get a really loud background hum and my tone suddenly goes from sludge heaven to hyper fizz. The other oddity is that the voume suddenly increases - what is bedroom noise at 1 suddenly becomes a sonic assault.

Its really odd - is this a sign of the effects loop being buggered, something I can fix (i.e cleaning), or is it normal and part of the fun?

Z XP tuning issues....HELP!!
by Basher on Thu Feb 21, 2008 6:06 pm
Got a Z XP about a year ago, and the sound just will not dial in. I really like this style guitar and can't afford the higher-end Z's, so trying to make this one work. Basically, it sounds muddy with power chords and in Drop D tunings. The low E will not dial in at all- stays in tune for about 45 seconds then drops out. I've adjusted the bridge, played with pickup heights, changed strings, etc. but the problem persists. Is there something obvious I'm missing, or did I get bum guitar with faulty tuners? Or is it the body wood tone properties? Please help before I set her on fire!!!! Right now I've relegated it to project/guinea pig guitar status.
Thanks in advance for your solutions.......
Need help choosing amp!
by Larsson on Thu Feb 21, 2008 6:58 pm
Hi! Im just wondering if you guys could give me a advice or two cause im thinking about getting a new amp. I have a Marshall MG30 DFX, but that's my first amp and now i would like to buy myself something better.

-It has to be a combo.
-It does not need all those watts. 30 of them will be fine in my apartement.
-I would like it to have some nice effects pre-installed. Delay is a requirement!
-I'm not gonna use the built-in distorsion very much, since im using my Line6 Uber metal for that. Altough, it won't harm having different kind of distorsion built in.
-Tube or not, does not matter.
-If i really like the amp, price won't matter.

Im playing thrash/death metal so i want the amp to sound good playing it. A lot of gain is used. I want it to be able to deliver a crushing, crunching tone! Smile I do however want it to sound great when playing solo and licks.

Please give me som advice and you can also tell me what you are using, and i check your amp out.

Thanks!
Thinking about doing some new pickups
by Rampage on Thu Feb 21, 2008 7:33 pm
Well, as the title says, I am thinking about going to some new pickups. I am moving in a different direction with my playing ('80s stuff: Maiden, Dokken, Cacophony, Testament, Exodus, etc) and the D-Sonic/Air Norton combo isn't really sitting right with me anymore.

The guitar I will be putting them into is a G&L Rampage (Alder body/Maple neck/Ebony board) which is pretty bright.

My setup is going to be Rampage -> Bodenhamer Bloody Murder OD -> '76 JMP 2204 (6550/KT88) -> 1960A in which I will have the V30/G12T-75 X pattern.

Having said that, I am really considering the Seymour Duncan Custom Custom (Bridge) and Pearly Gates (Neck). I am also interested in the Screamin' Demon (Bridge), Full Shred (Both), Distortion (Bridge), and Jazz (Neck). Not fond of the JB at all though I should add.

The only other brand that has really intrigued me is DiMarzio with the Super 3 and Paf Pro models. I'm not in need of anything like the Deactivator or X2N though, I am sure of that. Still not 100% sure if I am into the DiMarzio thing anymore though.

Also I have looked into some of the more custom/boutique brands (WCR/Bare Knuckle/Rio Grande/Manlius) and don't think that is the way I want to go.

I am pretty sure I am going back to Duncans at this point, but it is always nice to see what you guys think could work.

but is it possible to have a section dedecaded to songwriting...or songwriting discussions?
i just do see an appropriate place to post some content with out taking away from the original intent of a section.
and like maybe music theory too...maybe in the same section...
that is the only thing i see missing from this whole forum...
that would make it seriously complete...

Hey guys got my cadzilla a few days ago it kicks major ass! it's amazing apart froma few electronics problems (hopefully will be fixed by monday), it plays almost like a USA and the v neck is very slight so it doesn't hurt my thumb like on the rbs.
steve did a very good job getting this from Iowa to Brisbane Australia in the middle of winter and cadzilla madness. The quilt is dark but amazing best quilt I've seen Shocked. It also plays like a dream right out of the store, needed a bit of truss rod adjustment because of the temp changes but wow! it's built for speed. I normally play round guitars like mls for the fret access and this one slots right in instead of being loose and moving round. Sorry no pr0n till i summarise my other accoustic

This is a sanchez accoustic I paid $160 for it brand new, the guy gave me $40 off, I spent another 20 lowering the nut though as I couldn't find the correct measurements for the nut, lucky I didn't as he had to cut a bit into the bridge to get the strings lower. This guitar is what I call my "walk guitar" went on holidays with my family said I was going for a walk came back with a guitar and everyone was like.... wtf? It plays like a beast for $160 aud (just think, razorbacks here atre $2800 in store).

PR0N!

some questions about amps
by Black Wolf on Fri Feb 22, 2008 4:59 pm
am i correct in saying, a s#%t amp will sound like a s#%t when down tuning, and a good one wont? also, what makes an amp sound good (old marshall) or bad (10 watt, epiphone practive amp) electronics, what determines this? also i never understood how different amps can change the way your guitar sounds. sorry bout the noobish questions here guys.
Black Amps Tear the Sky...
by SuicideMessiah82 on Fri Feb 22, 2008 5:01 pm
Hey, I was wondering if anyone could help me find a new amp. Right now I'm using an old Marshall Valvestate 10w, I play Metal (mainly), Ska, and Punk so preferably with good gain, I was thinking a Peavey XXX Half Stack, or a Peavey Valveking, but I'm a n00b when it comes to amps. I'll probably be doing some gigging this year so something loud enough for people to hear. My budget is around $800 since my parents are chipping in for it as a birthday present.

Any help is appreciated.

Tax Time! Help me whittle my list of amps down.
by njspeedbeast on Fri Feb 22, 2008 7:12 pm
Hmmm....time for a new amp....

It was gonna come between these...

Peavey 6505+
Hughes and Kettner Switchblade
Fender 5150 III (Pushing the money, but worth it?)
Krank Revolution

If you want my main music style......its http://www.myspace.com/stainoffaith

The only thing is...I love to play pop and clean tones.....Blues, Pop Punk, Funk and Alt Rock.

The amps main concern is for my band though, but I would love to have a nice smooth crunch and a smooth clean also. I know that my main guitar has an EMG 81 in and that does poopty cleans, but I have other guitars with passive electronics in them.

Also, I could wait longer and save up some money for a pre/power amp rack assembly. Would that be more worth it? I want top of the line equipment that I can use for years to come. I alsways dreamed of having that pro rack setup.
New amp! YAY!! (With pRon)
by nicodemoscain on Fri Feb 22, 2008 7:51 pm
I finally got the Peavey Valveking 212 I have been GAS-ing over! Scored it at the Music Center in town for $400. The casters on the bottom came with it! Now I don't have to bust my arse hauling my half stack around to practices and I don't even have to work that hard hauling this new Peavey around. It all worked out perfectly. It even has an interesting story behind it:

I actually played this amp half a year ago at the same store and wanted it really bad then. I saved as much money as I could and when I got just enough to afford it including a couple of guitar trades, it vanished. I wound up taking the money and using it for an emergency that popped up. Since then, that store has never had another 212 in the store. Then, a week ago, I randomly decided to go for a walk around town and I randomly stopped in to see the new stuff they had. Lo and behold, they had my Peavey 212. I asked them what the deal was on it and they said it was the same amp they had in there when I had played it. The guy who bought it is an older blues player in town and he had troubles lifting the thing, so he put the casters on it, but he still could not do much with it because of his age and health, so he sold it back to the store. They had just put it back out on the floor an hour before I walked in and saw it and because I was the first customer in that day, the dude cut me a deal on it. I asked if I could put some money down on a lay-away and they said no problem, so I had to walk half a mile back to my house and then BACK AGAIN to the music store to put what money I had been saving down on the amp. I got super lucky when my tax check came in yesterday and I went down, picked it up and that's that. Laughing It is in pristine condition with no scratches, tears or anything. The only things the guy did to the amp were the casters and a new handle on the top that actually makes it super easy to carry.

It is a totally awesome amp that I am so happy to finally own. I unfortunately had to dump some guitars and some old pedals and what-not to get some of the initial money together for it, but for me it was well worth it. Here's what my new baby looks like:

Now all I need is a DFH or any Razorback I have been GAS-ing over and I should be fairly happy on music stuff for the year. Very Happy
Anyone ever heard of SGH amps?
by Dale on Fri Feb 22, 2008 9:45 pm
There's a store local to me that carries these, and I was curious if anyone's ever had any experience from this board. Their website is www.sghsound.com and their products don't necessarily seem to be that expensive.. They seem to be a Canadian brand as well. I'm looking at the "BSH2 300" bass head and cab (head not pictured) http://www.sghsound.com/bass_amps.htm scroll all the way down, second last amp.

matt heafy sig v.s. the stealth
by soulstorm7 on Fri Feb 22, 2008 11:27 pm
searched and didnt find anything on this specific topic, so im sorry if this has been mentioned....

Heafys FIRST draft of his sig looks a lot like the stealth. Now, i know the stealth has been around for a long time, but the dean stealth looks soooo much like what heafy wanted to do. the bottom wing is even a little shorter, giving it the rhoads effect. my question: why was heafy's design rejected when it was basically just a smaller stealth, or was that the very reason?

XN2s had a baby
by gr8ness221 on Fri Feb 22, 2008 11:50 pm
I wanted to try out some new pickups to find a Randy meets Darrell sound. Some people suggested XN2's. Some suggested D Acrivators. I looked on in Ebay a I found that Dimarzio make a pick up called the D Activator X which is a mix of the XN2 and D Activator. The just came out and I plan on getting them. I'll post some clips when they arrive. Any one else try them ?
Get ready Dean owner's..., 'cause I think it's coming.
by bassmantim71 on Fri Feb 22, 2008 11:52 pm
Just curious how people here feel about sharing thier precious Dean guitars with the rest of the world. God knows that there are people here who've owned Deans before I bought one, and trust me, this doesn't really bother me.

BUT, when I started snowboarding 18 years ago, it was considered a "fringe" sport. Skiers thought we were crazy, 95% of the mountains in Quebec had a total ban on snowboards. Now, skis are on thier way out, and snowboarding is now super popular, an olympic sport..., everyone and thier brother has a board up here.

So what will you all think when every music store is lined with Dean guitars on both walls? When every music video has Dean guitars in it? When you see your first Dean Razorback in a Britney Spears video (don't laugh, go to the Dime Dunlop Wah page, Ashlee Simpson is listed as antist who uses the product).

Will you think that owning a Dean guitar is still as cool as it is now?!?

Anyone have experience using Greenbacks?
by Rampage on Sat Feb 23, 2008 1:34 am
Well I am moving to a Marshall ('76 JMP 2204) and I am looking around at all the various speakers. I had been thinking about doing G12T-75s and Vintage 30s, but after listening to clips and reading reviews it just doesn't seem like they would fit me. On the other hand I started looking into Greenbacks and I think they could be the perfect speaker for my situation.

I wanted to see if anyone had any positive or negative comments on the Greenbacks. FWIW I play '80s metal, the speakers will be going into a 1960A, and they will be the UK version.

Trivium's Ascendancy
by Hot Sauce on Sat Feb 23, 2008 5:38 am
I know there are many threads on Trivium, but I wanted to make my own.

I used to not care for Trivium much. There were a few I liked, those being 'Like Light to the Flies,' 'Detonation,' and 'Anthem.' So, I was at Best Buy the other day. I had already picked up Primus's 'Sailing the Seas of Cheese' and Pink Floyd's 'Meddle.' I was looking across the band names on the little plastic slips. Testament...Three Days Grace...Tom Jones...Trivium. Hmmm...

Feeling a little curious, I picked up Ascendancy. I looked at it for a minute and thought to myself "I'll give this a shot." I went to the checkout. I listened to Primus all the way home, but when I got home, I popped in Ascendancy. I listened. "Okay," I thought, "This isn't too bad." I took it out.

The next day, I decided to go ride around in the truck. I carried Ascendancy with me. When I started riding, I slid the CD in to my Sony Xplod CD player. The soft acoustic intro 'The End of Everything' began. I listened. Then out came the thrashy number, 'Rain.' Then came 'Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr.' Yes, this is also known by many as the Boat, Rudder, Strange Nountain song. When I listen to it, I hear everything as it is in Paranoidave's Interpretation. But either way it goes, it's a badass song. Skip on to 'Ascendancy,' the title track. I love this song. The chorus is fun to sing along to and I dig the lyrics. Great song. Go on to 'A Gunshot To The Head Of Trepidation,' another of my favorites. A headbanging anthem for sure. Then on to 'Like Light to the Flies,' probably my favorite Trivium song. I just adore the riff in the verse and the solos are sweet, to boot. I listen to the rest. I realize that I need to listen again. I do so. By this time i'm thinking to myself, "Wow, i'm glad I gave these guys a chance." Ascendancy is a great album. While
