Mar 2008
Hey guys, it's tax time again and we all have a little money to blow.
I've chosen to put my home studio back together.
Previously I had a high end athlon machine with cool edit pro, a 16 channel mixer and a plethora of so-so mics.
Got the job done, but I want really good quality for less than a fortune if possible.
I've been looking into some used protools packages, {for example I recently found digi001, with 001 pci card, i/o box, and protools le really cheap, but am not sure what it's really worth, or if there is something better out there.}
I'm sure there are a few reputable home recording gurus lurking amongst us, so I ask...
What should I look for in my computer.
Does the 001 pci card eliminate the need for a kickarse soundcard, and if not what should I run?
What sort of mics would you recommend. {for vocal and cabinet mic}
What sort of mixer would you recommend to interface with the pc, etc.
Honestly I am at a loss.
HELP!!!!???
pm's welcome.
Thanks in advance for your help, fellow musicians.

If my 1981 ML had a V-neck
it would be the perfect guitar. I have a 1983 with one, but it's not the same. The '81 is lighter and I swear it does things no other guitar in the world can do. I like the shallow fret board radius of the Vintage better than the new TC's, it's almost FLAT. It achieves fantastic action - any height... I may have to hunt down another Standard.
Can someone help me out? When exactly (yeah right! lol) did the v-neck come along? I'm just not sure what year I'm lookin' for... Oh and if anyone has a picture of an 80 - 83 V-neck ML Standard - that would be great....
1997 NAMM ?
by Dean C on Sat Mar 01, 2008 7:49 pm
Did anyone here go to NAMM in 97 and take any pictures of the Dean booth ?
If you did and dont mind digging them out, post some pics.
Thanks
No this is not going to need to look at the Floyd sticky. I want to know if I still need an additional spring on top of the two and a tremsetter for 11-50 guage strings.
Need to find this ad asap!!
I have an essay for my writing class, it is based on illustration, and we have to write it about any magazine ad, our choice. Well to make it easier and more interesting for me, I wanted to choose a Dean Guitars ad, preferable the one below came to mind first. BUT! I cant find the actual ad in any of my magazines. (I have some in a box but havent gotten to find them yet)
Does anyone know WHAT magazine this ad has been in? Maybe I have a copy stored away, or can pick one up at Bookmans or even something new that is out this month.
We almost sacked our bassplayer.
by Blazer on Sat Mar 01, 2008 11:03 pm
And to all involved it was big relief because he was really slowing the band down.
We got to know Ade as a fun guy, somebody who lightened up the mood and who always was in for a laugh or a joke, "Slavantas" was his first proper rock band and he was all too eager to make the most of it. His youthful enthusiasm worked miracles for us to really get going with the band. He and I went shopping for new gear at the massive Music Store in Cologne Germany and it was one of the most enjoyable days I had all year, we tried out Gretsch guitars, we went looking for equipment for stage use and we had a laugh about comic books. With him being Irish and a big Thin Lizzy fan I showed him an Epiphone John Sykes Les Paul which he bought and to this day he expresses his graditute to me showing him that guitar.
But in the duration that he has been with us he showed us that he also has a bad side to him. Ade is somebody who loves a bit of booze and does the odd white line. If he hasn't had his fix prior to doing rehearsals he becomes very hard to deal with. We told him "Live the way you wanna live but don't let all of this bring the band in jeopardy."
Here's the ten things that happened over the course of roughly a year with him in the band.
1. At one of the first rehearsals we did with him, we were cutting our teeth on a very technical and difficult to play song, we were about to nail it when he suddenly stopped playing and walked over to Pascal (our singer) and handed him lyrics that "would fit the song better" Needless to say our singer asked him why he didn't give those lyrics prior to us starting the song. His reply "Well it just popped in my mind that I still had those to show you and figured that this would be as good an opportunity as any."
2. The side project of our Bassplayer folded, their leadsinger stating that she just can't trust Ade one anymore.
3. At Halloween Ade and I went to see Friends of mine who play in a band called "Draztic Lee Zpastik" when I picked Ade up he came out clutching a bottle of brandy and taking huge swigs while we drove to the venue. After arriving there he began to beg everybody to give him beer and more booze. DLS' leadsinger takes me apart and goes: "What's this half-wit's problem, he's totally out of control." When driving him home Ade insisted that I'd drop him off at Pascal's home. I go "It's 3:30 in the morning, do you really think he'd like you showing up?" But Ade was adiment. And so I dropped him off at Pascal's house and quickly left the scene. At the rehearsal that followed Ade and Pascal were not exactly on good terms.
4. I fixed up one of Ade's instruments and he bought a guitar and an amp from me, I still get over 300 bucks from him.
5. Three months ago, our band got in a second guitarist: Andy. Who, like Ade is Irish. So in order to get a bond formed with my two fellow bandmembers I arranged to go shopping with them for new gear, employing my knowlegde of instruments to the band's advantage. Prior to that me and Ade have been over at Andy's to jam and come up with new material, this resulted in our newest song. So with that pleasant memory still fresh me and Andy arrive at Ade's place to pick him up as arranged, there's no reply at the door. We call him up on the cellphone and there's no reply. But at the next rehearsal he goes "Sorry man, I was there but had such a bad hangover that I took some sleeping pills to sleep it off, I meant to call you guys about it but I forgot."
6. Ade and Pascal get into a heated argument over nothing. Our leadsinger doesn't really like songs with busy wordy lyrics so he changes the lyrics around to suit his vocal style. I adressed him about that and he explained his reason and we both agreed that it was the best thing to do. But Ade was going "Man stop screwing up the songs, this band should be a democracy. We all have to have our say about you changing lyrics."
7. Directly after that particullar rehearsal. Our rehearsal space also has a bar and still angry because of the argument with our singer, Ade went on a rampage, copping feels on the girls that were there at that particullar evening, being rude and loudmouthed. Andy and Josh (Our drummer) had to physically remove him from the vicinity. His little freak out earned our band a first "yellow card" which is a formal warning, one more reported case of bad behavior and our band is no longer welcome.
8. Two weeks ago. We have band get-togethers to iron out kinks in our system. We all agreed to call or mail well in advance if one of us cannot make it. We had just been given a prime spot on an important cutural festival stage and we planned to start working towards that gig. We also never start a meeting until everybody is there. We wait for an hour and Ade never showed up. Turned out that he was in London with his Girlfriend. When we asked him why he didn't call he went "You ought to know better than that, I haven't got any range in London."
9. Last week's rehearsal. The song that Andy and I are working on is growing better and better as time went on, we all enjoyed seeing the jigsaw pieces coming together. Josh is working our the drumbreaks, Andy and I are trading off licks making our ideas flow together. Pascal is singing some non-lyrical thing making up the vocal lines while scribbling some words down trying to figure our what he will sing. And even Ade was no trouble effordlessly hooking in with what me and Andy were doing. The magic was there, we were making one of our best songs to date when suddenly Ade goes: "Okay lads, that's enough of that, let's start working on another one." Everybody in the band looked at him with an "Are you kidding me?" look in their eyes, we were all expecting for him to break out laughing and go "Ha, got you there didn't I?" but no he was dead serious, killing off what would have well been one of our most productive reheasals yet in order to start working on a song he wanted to bring forwards, no matter how far we came with Andy's song, his apparently had the higher priority, resulting in an argument between him and Andy. And having Pascal and Josh leaving the room to "take a leak." The girl behind the bar adresses Pascal and goes "Could you tell that red headed buddy of yours..." before Pascal interrupts her by stating "He's not my buddy, he just my bassplayer" Later that night I got a phonecall from Andy telling me: "This can't go on anymore Walt, I really can't deal with him anymore." to which I reply that I agree with him.
10. The conclusion. Things have gone to the hilt, Ade is putting the excistence of the band in Jeopardy. After that last rehearsal Pascal phones me up to tell me that he and Andy have spoken about sacking Ade and want to know my opinion. I tell him that I agree, Ade has to go. When we phoned Josh he wasn't convinced yet, he figured that Ade at least should have a fair chance to clean up his act and to have his say. We all decide that that's fair and so we all meet up at the bar of our rehearsal space and await Ade's arrival. We have since become accustomed with Ade being the last one to arrive so we patiently wait but after an hour goes by, we were all convinced that he wouldn't show up at all. So we tried calling him, no reply at his phone, so we tried calling up his girlfriend who informs us that Ade is in Switzerland once again never calling off the bandmeeting. Of all people, it's Josh our most mild manner bandmember who says "Screw giving him a fair chance, that SOB is out as far as I'm concerned." we took a vote and everybody agreed. Later that night I got a phonecall from Andy telling me that he saw Ade's girlfriend and that she told him that Ade was expressing the idea of leaving the band himself.
And so, tomorrow we will have to face Ade and formally tell him that he's no longer part of Slavantas. Not something I'm looking forward to.
NEW AMP DAY
by zao on Sun Mar 02, 2008 12:02 am
I picked up a brand new 2007 SOLDANO SLO-100 today, ive been thinking about this amp alot lately and i decided to buy one, last year i had one with the black chassis and the depth mod but i had too many other amps i wanted to try and i sold it and the day i was shipping it i played it and it sounded better than ever, i sent it off but i really didnt want to. since i had my last slo i got a mesa traditional cab and i think it sounds better than the vht and uberkab i was using with the one i sold. ive been playing my 59 reissue lp with it and its awsome for some rock tones, lynch and ratt songs sound awsome.
i also boosted it with my od-9 and was playing some stuff in drop c and it was kicking my ass.
File the nut?
by Rude on Sun Mar 02, 2008 12:04 am
I have an Epiphone ZW LP Custom and want to experiment with string guages.
Is a .060 low E string thick enough to require the nut to be filed?
Also will putting such a thick string on top require some action adjustment?
I noticed that Zakk's GHS Boomers were .....010, .013, .017, .036, .052, .060.
The guitar shop in town didn't have either the old ZW GHS strings or the new ZW Dunlops, so I bought a set of D'addario Light Top/ Heavy Bottom strings(.010, .013, .017, .030, .042, .052) and I bought a single .060 and a .036 to make up a set that matches the gauge of the ZW set. (use the .052 for the A string and toss out the .030 and the .042.
I know....lame, but I had my mind set on getting a set of ZW strings....
Another noob question.....
How many people use strings that come with a wound G string?
The G string on my guitar is the only one that really goes out of tune (and sounds twangy) and I am wondering if a wound G string would fix it and still maintain a good tone?
Is this right??
by Rude on Sun Mar 02, 2008 3:08 am
I finally took the time to clean and re-string my guitar today and I noticed something I never saw before....The bridge pickup is raised really high on the 6th string (see pics)...is this right or is this a really bad setup?
It has me thinking that the neck is twisted and this is the only way they could set it up right...
tommorow afternoon i will become the proud owner...
of a peavey 6505 +
im so excited im not going to be able to sleep

Snakewood
by * on Sun Mar 02, 2008 9:02 am
anyone know where i can find a piece of snakewood large enough to be a guitar top? or at least a couple of piece i can glue together?
Dime Diamond PLate Guitar FTW!
where'd this guy get this???
thats a big price he's got there!

*EDIT: It doesnt look as clean of a job as dime's diamond plate, it's probably a stealth taken to sharp concepts
Post your Dean V Headstock here
I want to see the difference between the three or so series of V headstocks Dean has. Does anyone have a couple close up headstock comparison pics they'd like to post (the whole guitar also if you like)?
Just played the Dave's VMNTX...
...and all I can say is "Wow!" Dave isn't as much of a douchebag as I thought he was. These are some kick ass little guitars. The neck was faster than anything on any Dean I have played. The sound was pretty great considering the fact that the guitar had half as much wood and half as much ass behind it as any other guitar I own. It didn't feel like it was widening the neck to make up for the slimmer profile of the neck like those damned Ibanez's do, either. It actually felt the way that I wish my DBDT would feel. (And it was SOOOO nice to have a headstock that I didn't feel would snag a body part of the other people walking around behind me. )
The 24 fret thing took me back for a second. I remember looking down and saying "Oh! Look...this thing has 24 frets. When did that happen? It wasn't like that when I took it off the wall, was it?" The thing is harder to keep in your lap than a regular V, but man, does that thing play great. I hate that output jack location, but it is what it is, I suppose. I even dug into the silver paint job, too. I have a feeling that my GAS list just got another guitar added. (And they're even affordable!!!)
Anyone else agree?
just wondering are you not able to get blackburst on say a TCML? i was looking through the catalog and it wasnt one of the available finishes.
What tubes come stock in Laney GH50L heads?
Does anyone know what sort of power and preamp tubes come stock in Laney GH50L heads, and are they good quality tubes?
Just a quick question when it comes to neck width. I've played three non-floyded TC's and the necks were all thinner than the two floyded USA's that I've played. Having said that, the two floyded guitars were Dime models. My question is, do all floyded TC guitars have wider necks than non floyded guitars?
Danke
are these guitars worth $700?
ive played the RR5s, and a 80s pro series but not a RR3...whats your opinions of them?
*i know its the dean forum, if i asked over on the Jackson forum the opinions would be biased*
BUGERA 333XL REVIEW AS PROMISED.
OK SO HERE GOES MY STORY...
AS EVERYONE KNOWS, DOESNT KNOW , CARES , DOESNT CARE. SHRUGGS. I HAVE 2 ENGLS (POWERBALL AND SAVAGE 120) AND 2 MARSHALL V30 CABS. BIG DEAL , NOT BRAGGIN. JUST STATING. IT MATTERS FOR THE STORY. NOT GETTING RID OF THE ENGLS. I HAVE SOME CARVIN CABS AT OUR REHEARSAL HALL I USE AT PRACTICE . I AM TIRED OF LUGGING MY POWERBALL HEAD TO PRACTICE. SO I FIGURED GOOD IDEA, BUY A CHEAP HEAD THAT SOUNDS OK TO LEAVE AT THE REHEARSAL HALL. GETS STOLEN OR BROKEN I WILL BE MAD BUT ONOLY A FEW HUNDRED BUX LOST INSTEAD OF 2 GRAND TO REPLACE AN ENGL. DID I SAY I WAS TIRED OF LUGGIN A HEAD AROUND. ITS KEWL FOR GIGS BUT A PAIN FOR REHEARSAL.
SO MY PLAN WAS TO BUY A PEAVEY XXX OR 5150II. THEY GO CHEAP ENOUGH ON EBAY AROUNE $600 -$700 USA WHEN YOURE LUCKY. OUT COMES THE BUGERA. MADE IN CHINA DISTRIBUTED THROUGH BEHRINGER. I KNOW BEHRINGER MAKES SOME QUESTIONABLE QUALITY PRODUCTS. BUT SUPPOSEDLY THEY ARE JUST THE DISTRIBUTOR OF BUGERA. BUGERA HEADQUARTERS IS IN THE VIRGIN ISLAND BTW NOT THAT IT MAKES ANY DIFFERENCE.
SO ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO I SEE THIS AD FOR BUGERA. THEY LOOK DECENT ENOUGH. SO I FIGURE WHEN I SAW THEM I WOULD TRY ONE OUT WHEN THEY BECOME AVAILABLE. IM ALWAYS UP TO TRYING GEAR AND PUTTING MY STAMP OF DISAPPROVAL ON IT.
THERE WAS SUPPOSE TO BE ONLY A COUPLE MONTH DELAY FOR THEM TO REACH THE STATES BUT HERE IT IS A YEAR AND A HALF LATER AND THEY ARE FINALLY HERE. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A PROBLEM GETTING UL LISTED FOR USA. BUT WHO KNOWS. EVERYONE ON THE INTERNET IS A KNOW IT ALL SO I DONT KNOW THE REAL TRUTH JUST HERE SAY I GUESS.
SO I SEE THEM FINALLY ON ORDER AT SAM ASH.COM SO I WATCH FOR THEM TO BECOME AVAILABLE. WAS SUPPOSE TO BE 3-15-2008 BUT THEY ARRIVED EARLY. SO I ORDERED MINE ON MY BIRTHDAY 2-25-2008.
NOW FOR THE FUN PART. SARCASH. IT ARRIVES VIA FEDEX ON THURSDAY. MY WIFE WAS HERE UNTIL 1 IN THE AFTERNOON TO WAIT ON IT BEFORE GOING TO WORK. SO GUESS WHAT FEDEX SHOWS UP AT 1:18 HAHAHAAH. NO ONE HERE TO SIGN FOR IT. USUALLY THEY JUST LEAVE STUFF BUT THEY MUST HAVE GOT TIRED OF ME CALLING TO COMPLAIN. THEY HAVE LEFT AT LEAST 5 GUITARS ON MY STEPS. I DONT LIVE IN A NICE NEIGHBORHOOD LIKE SOME OF THE UPPER CALLS INDIVIDUALS ON HERE SO YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. SO I GET HOME AT 5 AND CALL FEDEX TO PICK IT UP FRIDAY AFTER WORK. THE PERSON WHO ANSWERS IS VERY UNHELPFUL. SHE SAYS WELL THE PICKUP CENTER IS IN MORTON. I LIVE IN PEORIA THEY ARE 2 CITIES , A WHOPPING 20 MINUTES APART. I WAS LIKE YEAH OK. SHE THOUGHT I WOULD NOT WANT TO GO GET IT I GUESS. BUT I SAID . NO THAT IS FINE. I KNOW WHERE THE HUB IS I CAN GO GET IT. SHE SAYS WELL YOU CANT. I SAY WHY. SHE SAYS WELL THAT WAS EXPRESS DELIVERY AND THEY DONT GO BACK TO THE HUB. SO I SAY THAT DOESNT SOUND RIGHT. I HIGHLY DOUBT THEY LEAVE THE PACKAGES IN A VEHICLE UNSECURED OVER NIGHT IN A DRIVERS DRIVE WAY. SHE GETS ALL BENT OUT OF SHAPE AND SAYS WELL THEY GO BACK BUT ITS ATFTER 8 PM AND YOU CANT PICK IT UP THAT LATE. SO I ASK. WHICH IS IT. IS IT THE HUB IS TOO FAR, THEY DONT GO BACK TO THE HUB AT NIGHT OR ITS TOO LATE WHEN THEY GET BACK FOR ME TO GO. SO SHE TRANSFERS ME. I TALK TO SOMEONE ELSE WHO TELLS ME THEY DONT KNOW WHICH VEHICLE MY PACKAGE IS IN.I SAY WELL YOU HAVE THE TRACKING # AND THE NAME OF THE DRIVER. SHE GETS UPSET. I GUESS PEOPLE ARE PASSIVE WHEN THEY CALL AND TAKE UNHELPFUL INFO CAUSE THESE PEOPLE DONT WANT TO GIVE ANY INFO OUT. ALSO I WAS VERY POLITE UNTIL I GOT THE RUN AROUND. SO FINALLY SHE SAYS I HAVE TO CALL AT 8 OR 830 TO SEE WHERE ITS AT. I SAID WELL DO YOU OPEN AT 8 OR 830. SHE SAYS I DONT KNOW. I ASK HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW WHEN YOU OPEN. IS GOOD HELP THAT HARD TO FIND THESE DAYS. SO I CALL AT 8 ON FRIDAY TO GET TOLD IT IS OUT FOR DELIVERY ALREADY. WELL THE GUY SHOWS UP WITH IT ON FRIDAY RIGHT AS MY WIFE IS LEAVING FOR WORK. SO I LUCKED OUT. MY WIFE TELLS ME DELIVERY GUY SAYS "YOULL HAVE TO LIFE IT, IM NOT LIFTING IT, THAT BOX IS TOO DAMN HEAVY. YOU SHOULD GET SMALLER BOXES" SHE SAYS SHE COULDNT BELIEVE THIS GUY, HE SAID IT ALL SNOTTY TOO. ANYWAYS "SHES LIKE IM NOT LIFTING IT. IM A GIRL. THAT BOX IS HUGE" SO HE TAKES IT TO THE STEPS AND MUMBLES I GUESS. MAN PEOPLE ARE REALLY LAZY THESE DAYS. FEDEX PEOPLE GET PAID REALLY WELL SO I DONT GET IT.
SO FOR THE REVIEW.
UPON LOOKING AT IT IN THE MAGAZINES AND ON THEIR WEBSITE, YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE THE BUGERA AMPS ARE PEAVEY CLONES. MADE IN CHINA. PEAVEY VALVE KINGS ARE MADE IN CHINA AS WELL AS PEAVEY XXX, JSX, 5150 AND 5150II BUT THE XXX, JSX, 5150 AND 5150II ARE ASSEMBLED IN THE USA. THE BUGERAS ARE MADE AND ASSEMBLED IN CHINA LIKE THE VALVE KINGS. I DO BELIEVE. I SUPPOSE THE BUGERAS ARE MADE IN THE SAME FACTORY.
THE BOX IT CAME IN IS REALLY HUGE. I TOOK A PIC COMPARED TO A SPEAKER CAB.
PACKED VERY WELL. DOUBLE BOXED AND THE SAME FOAM MY ENGLS CAME IN.
OK FIRST THING. I ORDERED THE 333XL HEAD. THE JSX CLONE $599. SAM ASH MESSED UP AND SHIPPED THE COMBO AMP $699 . ONLY CHARGED ME $599 THOUGH. I DONT WANT THE COMBO THOUGH SO THEY ARE PAYING SHIPPING TO SWAP THEM OUT.
UPON INSPECTION. THEY SEEM TO MADE VERY WELL. ACTUALLY ASSEMBLED BETTER THAN THE PEAVEYS IVE OWNED. MADE VERY WELL.
A REALLY NICE STEAL GRATE TO COVER THE SPEAKERS AND TUBES FOR SAFETY. CONNECTED WITH MACHINE SCREWS NOT DRYWALL SCREWS LIKE ON PEAVEY AND MESA. THE METAL GRILL/GRATE ACTUALLY THICKER THAN THE METAL ON MY ENGLS. WAY THICKER THAN THE GRILLS ON PEAVEYS. A NICE FRONT CLOTH FOR THE SPEAKERS AND THE TUBE SOCKETS ARE MOUNTED VERY FIRMLY. NOT MOUNTED TO THE PCB LIKE ON PEAVEYS. SO OVER ALL VERY GOOD QUALITY. ONLY THING THE NOBS ARE KIND OF JUNKY. THEY TRIED TO MAKE THEM LIKE MESA. THE COMBO ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE A MESA TO ME. BUT THE NOBS ARE KIND OF FLEMSY THEY HAVE SOME PLAY TO THEM. SO CHEAP POTENTIOMETERS.
I BOUGHT THE 333XL JSX CLONE. I HAVE PLAYED A JSX AND DIDNT LIKE IT BUT WANTED TO GIVE THIS VERSION A TRY. ITS ACTUALLY NOT A JSX CLONE. IT SOUNDS A LOT LIKE THE XXX I OWNED. THIS ONE COMES WITH EL34 WHICH I LOVE EL34S SO THAT WAS THE SELLING POINT. EL34 ADJUSTABLE NOISE GATE AND BUILT IN DIGITAL REVERB. NO RESONANCE LIKE ON JSX THOUGH. FIRST THING. THE NOISE GATE DOESNT ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I DONT KNOW IF IT IS BROKE OR JUST CRAP BUT IT IS THE SAME ON ZERO AS IT IS ON 10. THE DIGITAL REVERB IS SUPER NICE THOUGH FOR ON BOARD REVERB. ALOT BETTER THAN THE XXX COMBO REVERB.
IT ALSO CAN USE 6L6 TUBES AND HAS THE SAME SWITCH, ADJUSTMENT NOB AND BIAS PROBE AREA AS THE PEAVEY 5150II AND XXX.
HERE IS THE FOOTSWITCH. A NICE METAL 4 BUTTON SWITCH WITH LIGHTS. THE ONLY BAD THING ON IT IS THE PLUG IN LOOKS LIKE A MOUSE PLUG IN. IT DOESNT GO IN THE HOLE GOOD AND IM SURE ALOT OF THESE WILL BREAK. SPECIALLY FOR PEOPLE WHO WILL USE THE AMP LIVE. TRYING TO PLUG IT IN ON A DARK STAGE WILL ADD FRUSTRATION AND BREAKING THEM. I TRIED TO GET A PIC BUT IT KEPT COMING OUT BLURRY THE CAMERA FOCUSED ON MY HAND INSTEAD OF THE PLUG. SO NO PIC. JUST THINK MOUSE PLUG WITH LESS PINS AND SMALLER PLASTIC PART.
HERE ARE THE EL34 TUBES. THEY SAY BUGERA. IM SURE THEY ARE SOVTEKS OR RUBY TUBES THOUGH. SAME AS THE PREAMP TUBES. I ACTUALLY REPLACED MINE WITH EH AND TUNGSOL. I WOULD SUGGEST TO GET SOME WEAKER TUBES THAN WHAT I DID CAUSE THE AMP HAS TOO MUCH GAIN. THE PREAMP GAIN MAXES OUT AT ABOUT 6 AFTER THAT IT JUST ADDS COMPRESSION AND MORE SIZZLE.
AND HERE ARE THE SPEAKERS . THEIR V30 CLONES. NOT BAD SPEAKERS ACTUALLY. A LITTLE WARMER THAN MY V30S .
SO MY REVIEW ON SOUND IS. THE CLEAN CHANNEL IS NEAR AMAZING. SOUND QUALITY IS CLOSE TO MY ENGLS. ALOT BETTER THAN PEAVEY CLEAN. THE EQ ON IT IS ACTUALLY BETTER TO MY EAR THAN MY ENGL BUT THE SOUND QUALITY ISNT QUITE THAT OF THE ENGL. I ONLY USE THE ENGL AS A REFERENCE TO EXPENSIVE QUALITY AND PEAVEY BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT THEY ARE CLONES OF SORTA. THE CLEAN IS ALOT BETTER THAN THE JSX AND XXX. THE POWER SECTION OF THE BUGERA IS REALLY NICE. I SLAVED MY POWERBALL OUT TO THE POWER SECTION OF THE BUGERA TO SEE WHAT IT SOUNDED LIKE THROUGH EL34S. I AM WAITING FOR ENGL TO EMAIL ME BACK WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE TO PUT EL34S IN MY POWERBALL. HEHEH. THE BUGERA CRUCH CHANNEL IS PRETTY CRUNCHY. THE RED CHANNEL IS OVER THE TOP GAIN. VERY COMPRESSED. VERY TIGHT. VERY MUCH THE XXX SOUND. PRETTY MUCH XXX WITH A PRESENCE NOB. THE VERY THING THAT MADE ME SWITCH TO ENGL FROM XXX IS IN THIS AMP. THE GAIN IS VERY COMPRESSED. ALMOST LIKE A METALZONE THROUGH A JCM800. THE BAD THING I DIDNT LIKE ABOUT XXX AND JSX IS NOT ON THIS AMP THOUGH.... THIS AMP DOESNT HAVE THE WIERD MIDRANGE VOICING AS THEY DO. HARD TO EXPLAIN. BUT LIKE XX AND JSX HAVE A MID FREQUINCY BOOSTED THAT I DONT LIKE . I DUNNO.
SO ....
QUALITY CONSTRUCTION VERY GOOD.
INTERNAL QUALITY UNSURE, TOO HARD TO TAKE THE COMBO APART TO LOOK
CLEAN CHANNEL VERY GOOD
CRUNCH CHANNEL GOOD BUT TOO COMPRESSED. GOOD MIDS THO
MEGA GAIN CHANNEL GOOD BUT TOO COMPRESSED.
SPEAKERS DECENT.
EFX LOOP SAME AS XXX AND JSX
PUT A LESSER GAIN TUBE IN V1 AND IT WONT BE SO COMPRESSED. MINE HAS A EH IN V1. THE TUNGSOL WAS BEST BUT I MOVED IT BEFORE RECORDING EXPERIMENTING. TOO MUCH A PAIN TO TAKE THAT METAL GRATE OFF TO CHANGE THE TUBES.
AM I KEEPING IT. YES. IT WILL WORK FINE FOR MY REHEARSAL HALL.
SENDING THE COMBO BACK THOUGH FOR THE HEAD THAT I ORDERED.
OK FOR THE SOUND. I MADE CLIPS OF THE AMP WITH ITS SPEAKERS. I JUST JAMMED ON SOME RIFFS. IM SURE I PLAYED SOME WRONG AND IM SURE SOME OF YOU CAN PLAY THEM BETTER. THATS KEWL. I WAS GOING FOR MAKING SOME CLIPS TO HEAR THE DIFFERENCES NOT TO MAKE A GRAMMY RECORDING. THE FIRST PART OF THE CLIP IS THE AMP. GAIN, CLEAN AND CRUNCH. THE CLEAN HAS SOME CLEAN THEN CLEAN WITH REVERB. THEN A CLIP I DID OF DRUM MACHINE, GUITAR TRACK AND SOLO. THEN SOME SAME RIFFS AT THE BEGINNING BUT THROUGH MY MARHSALL CABS. JUST TO HEAR THE DIF. THE MARSHALL CABS ARE BOOMIER. ALSO NOTE. I DID NO EQING WHAT SO EVERY. JUST STRAIGHT SM57 HIT RECORD. NO CHEATING. ENJOY.

I have some covers on here and am just tryin to hear what people think of em. I just put up a cover of Immigrant Song done my way. SOme of the solos in the songs are kinda rough but whatever
Any questions feel free to ask.

Mesa Cabs vs Marshall Cabs
I am beginning to think that some of the high end and clarity of my playing is being lost because of them. I noticed that Marshall cabs have a lot more high end and clarity.
I have my Warhead X2 running through 2 Mesa cabs and I had to throw an EQ in the loop to get ANY real high end. Plus the bottom end is kind of flabby....
Has anyone found this?
What's your practice regime?
The topic's simple enough.
How do you guys go about practicing?
Do you play different scales and modes? Exercises? Write your own material? Do you jam with a band?
I'm curious, because currently, I find myself just picking up a guitar and just doodling or playing licks I learnt a year ago, which is I know isn't a good thing to do. Nothing productive ever comes out of it.
Any one Care (repostitioning)...?
to Photo shop this for me with a floyd and black hardware. I tried and i came out like ass. The specks are as follows:
Length: Standard 24.75"
Pups: DiMarzio Diactivators X's (the cross between the X2N and Diactivators) in neck and bridge
V neck
Fretboard: the best one that can happen on a v neck import.
Original floyd(because everyone tells me its better)
If you look I have repositioned the pickup switch to the lower horn
and replaced it's slot with an extra volume knob like the ML's.
*edit*
12th fret says SPLITTAIL
22nd says FLOYD. yes in red.
I put alot thought into this and I would really appreciate it. Maybe this could be a new splittail limited run.
Hey guys! I searched and did not find one. So thought it would be cool to have one.
Post them up!
(I will post some when I get my wings)

need some tube amp advice
i need to get a tube head, i am wanting a high gain head. been looking at the xxx and jsx. but want some suggestions from others, i gotta stay under 1000.00 so used is more than likely the way i need to go. and i want to hear your opinion on playing it or hearing it in person not just the "i heard clips on the net and don't like it" thats not a good way to gauge the sound

The effects of boredom...
I got bored after school today, and got tired of saving up for my guitars to be scalloped, so I took to an old cheap strat myself, and did the last 4 frets of it:)
It worked a lot better than I expected, and I finally got to get to grips with scallops, btw they're AWESOME!!
Through the week I'll do the rest of the frets till I have the full board done
I'll post pron if anyone wants it
what noise gates do you guys recomend for a Vox AC30 CC Combo? i was looking at a ISP Tech. Decimator, and i know that the boss cuts the tone too much, what do u guys recommend?
Where can i find how to run my pedals?
ok i just need to know where to find out how to run my effect pedals, as in which pedals are good to run through an fx loop, and which order do i run them? and what order do i run my pedals out front? and which are better to run out front as opposed to the fx loop
i just need a good site to find this info out.
SD Blackout's vs EMG 81/85 combo
So I've been thinking of getting some different pickups for my Z. I'm stuck between the blackout set and a 81/85 combo.
I'm really looking for a nice crunchy sounding pickup that can also be nice and warm when clean.

Schaller stuff

Does anyone has experiences with schaller roller bridges, stop tailpieces, floyds and locking tuners ?want to change hardware on my epi and ML to black and better ones
DiMarzio clip-lock straps on bolt on deans?
It seems that around these parts either the clip-lock straps or schaller locks are what get recommended the most. From some searching I've gathered that installing schallers requires some very minimal handyman skills on the bolt on deans. Since I get Tim Taylor-like results just doing normal stuff, I'd rather not put my only guitar at risk. So, how about those clip-lock straps? What's required to install them? From some descriptions I've seen it sounds like they still require pulling out the current buttons and screwing in new ones, but do they just screw right in or am I going to have to risk mangling my axe with a drill and dremel?
So I was just poking around a bit looking at some LTD guitars. I am looking at a RA600 for sometime this year. OK so I see there are all these LTD endorsers. Are the LTDs they are playing made by ESP and have LTD on the headstock, or do they really play import LTDs?

actually i think they are LTD only.
they are natural tops and they kind look like something BC Rich would put out.
i could've sworn they were the AX series or something. anyways, the one i played was floyded and it played really nice too. i wouldnt mind picking one up.
does anyone have a picture of them?
Still me, less some dead weight. Don't worry. Much bigger things on the horizon. Stay tuned for more to come in the near future!
Bought A Lemon ENGL Fireball SON OF A....
OK this is some BS. Got that ENGL from ebay and it just got in a little while ago. Well I let it warm up to room temp, put the tubes in, fired her up and let it warm up for another 2 mins. Well the clean channel sounds phenomenal, just like the one I played in the store. The gain channel on the other hand is no where near as good as the one in the store. The dynamics are rather loose and kind of sloppy, I have to turn the gain full up just to get as much gain as the one at the store put out at 12 oclock. Also when I turn the standby off its still letting a signal through to the speakers. In the description it said the original tubes were still in it but they only had a few hours of use on them, im hoping he was lying and its just a bad set of tubes cause im really pissed. The damn descrition said MINT.
has anyone tried the Exotic series?
I just found out on ultimate-guitar.com. it's on the home page. it's a shame, the guy had incredible talent on guitar and anything else he touched.
Ok... So I got it a week ago today, but I haven't got around to taking the pictures...
It's a 1997 Les Paul Classic. It's really frackin' awesome. I thought the pickups were way muddy at first, but after a bit of pickup adjustment, I got the tone I was after. The neck is awesome. It's beat to %$#@! (which is just awesome). It's very simple.
I've wanted a Les Paul ever since my dad woke me up at 3 in the morning to watch The Song Remains the Same and The Wall back to back on PBS when I was a young'n. So this acquisition really means a lot to me. I just wish I would have been some kind of Gilmour fan really early off... It's easier and cheaper to get good strats than Les Pauls!
I got this for $1,100 which isn't bad considering I think they're going for two grand MAP now...
Well, that's the guitar...
And here's my very phallic looking tiki guy that sits next to my desk as I type.
I honestly don't know what to think about this band. There is something appealing about it. Think...Mr. Bungle meets Meshuggah meets Primus...kind of. Last I remember, they were opening for The Dillhinger Escape Plan. I like them, kind of...

PRON soon
ok...
so i have been playing guitar for almost 20 years....
with no lessons ahahhaha
yesterday i had the guitar store set up one of my guitars after getting pickups installed...
the guitar guy told me the action was so low on my guitar not even christ should be able to play it...but not to worry he fixed it...
i was alittle bit concerned about this high action business..
but i went home and played it for 10 minutes and i was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo freaking amazed and how easy playing guitar was now...like i was shredding all over the place with no effort at all! like everything was just so much easier.
and this morning i am still doing insane runs i feel i shouldnt be able to do.
how can this be?
does the amount of action really make this much of difference?
i think maybe this is my imagination but i havent had any of my friends hear the difference yet but my playing sounds way way better now.
i dont know.

I've been trying to figure out how Zakk Wylde does those chain saw like bends, like at the begining of Suicide Messiah, I'm guessing on that one he uses the tremolo. Also, for example at like 2:30 in "In This River" I'm wondering how he does it, is it because he's using the OD pedal to boost it or what?

I get alot of string noise with certain licks. Say like a easy petantonic lick in E just pulling off 15 onto 12 on the E and B strings. With some of you more accomplised lead players how do you kill excess string noise?

I'm getting ready to order another Soltero and I'd like to know all the finish options.
New Guitar Day....(Loomis String Thru Content)
The Fedex man FINALLY got here today. I'd been waiting since 8 AM
This thing is AMAZING. It plays every bit as good as my hellraiser and OFR Loomis(which is giving any USA guitar I've played a run for its money, and the tone, FAGEDABOUT IT!
Holy Crap, everything I love about Ash and everything I love about string throughs. The highs are great, it really sings and sustains for days, and the lows are REALLY tight and ballsy without getting too boomy and mudding up like mahogany tends to do when you're playing in really low tunings. The harmonics on this guitar insane. I keep looking for the PA2 hidden somewhere. Couldnt be happier with the tone.
Build quality is, again, fantastic. Frets are smooth and just begging for a real wide vibrato. Components are typical schecter; quality all around. Grover minis, tone pros tune o matic, EMG 707s. The best part? If you're paying $900 or more for one of these with the nice schecter hardshell case shipped to your door, you're doing something wrong.
On with the pron......
*Just to clarify, I'm not knockin dean in any way, but this is a ton of guitar for a great price*

EVH Kramer back from the dead......Pics.
by emunder on Fri Mar 07, 2008 2:36 am
Bought this guitar at a pawn shop in Garland TX about 8 years ago. It's a Kramer Focus 1000 and I was cruising around one day looking at used gear and I see this old thing. It was super dirty and it was a real jacked up looking turqoise color. Everything looked original and solid though except for the frets were a little worn. I paid $120.00 for it so I figured maybe I'd do a stripe job on it just for fun. Painted it with spray cans and it's been apart for awhile cuz I figured I'd get a fret job done but never never ended up getting around to it. Anyway...figured I'd put it back together and play it until I have the cash to replace the frets. Keep in mind that my goal was never to make it look exactly like the original hence the rosewood fingerboard, cocked pickup, no 5150 space tape, and the fact that the pickup isn't mounted directly to the body. The guitar plays real well though. Been through a ton of pickup changes over the years. I think the Duncan Custom sounded the best but it has a JB in it right now. Check it........
thinking of quitting playing
just thought i would let everyone know. im very very serious about that thought tonight

Building an explorer
by Blazer on Fri Mar 07, 2008 2:06 pm
Well I have been experiencing a severe case of writer's block when it comes to the built of my new Les Paul. I can't find the inspiration to continue the built of that guitar and that really bothers me.
Last week I found these pieces of maple and walnut and inspiration to do something else suddenly struck. They were not sawn off streight and they were too small and too narrow to make a body from, so I glued them together to make a multi piece body. And then I took out a routing template that I made many years ago but never got round to use and made myself this.
The neck is one of the necks from my double neck guitar, the bridge is a top loader Fender Bridge and I'm hoping to finish this number in aged natural.
Picking a Soltero finish is TOUGH
Picking a finish for a new Soltero is TOUGH.
I love Chuck's and Wayne's Solteros but that's their look. I have to have something unique.
I wish I had seen the trans brown guitar at DOA. I'm curious about that finish.
on the guitar pictures thread i noticed that some of the guitars have had electrical tape stuck around the strings on the headstock. what does this achieve???
cheers Martyn
First post, lets start with some prOn! ( Huge prOn! )
Hello fella's..
First post here.. have been looking at this forum for one and a half years now so I thought it was time to start an account lol!
My name is Glenn, I'm 17 and I'm from Rotterdam, which is in Holland. I play guitar and bass and I pretty much listen to all types of music. SRV is my favourite guitarist, but Hetfield was the one who inspired me to start playing guitar.
To start this of in a good way, it's time for some Dean prOn..
Hmm... I wonder what's inside
There it is... the Dean from Hell!!
And here is a Vendetta 4.0, havent seen many pictures of this one on the forum! ( yeah I know, I should have cleaned it first )

My co workers say I WOO HOO'd quite loudly, and developed quite a twitch while I waited for the box to warm up. Thanks for making my day Steve & Kim, I wasn't expecting it!
Green goodness
love the belly cut
I also really like this little addtion to the new cases
Just an incredible guitar, doesn't seem to be any finish flaws, absolutely love the V neck, plays smooth as melted butter.
Who likes the mids?
by emunder on Sat Mar 08, 2008 1:59 am
Anybody else dialing in some midrange? I think as far as the 5150/6505's concerned it gets fatter with more midrange and it also gets rid of the buzziness. Between 5 & 6 seems to be the sweet spot.
rough riff idea (input welcome)
Hey I wanted some opinions on a riff idea I came onto yesterday. After spending the better part of an hour tunning my DOF down to C standard, I just jammed for a while. After a bit I just had this little riff idea flesh out. It's still very rough but I think it sounds pretty cool. Very DOWN-ish if I do say so myself.
Don't mind the ending. A friend of mine got me hooked on it and I cant get it out of my head for some reason.
Now with sound!!!

The quest for the ultimate Soltero
I've been trying to think of my next Soltero (thanks for the suggestions in the other thread). None of the current finishes seem to jump out at me.
So now I'm trying to think of a hardware / finish combination that works well together. Sometimes a finish can look fantastic with the right hardware.
Below are some thoughts on some Soltero finishes
Finish – Solid color
Pros – I like Goldtops
Cons – I don’t like any solid colors except for Goldtops. I’m not sure I like Goldtops enough for a U.S. Soltero
Current Thoughts – Not gonna happen
Finish – Cherryburst
Pros – Looks fantastic on the Soltero. Reminds me of Jimmy Page, who is one of my favorite guitarists.
Cons – The finish is available in the lower end models. Also seems to be very common in Solteros.
Current Thoughts – Leaning towards ‘No’.
Finish – Clear quilt top
Pros – One of the nicest looks available in a Soltero. Looks very high end. Looks nothing like the lower end models.
Cons – This is the ‘Chuck’ finish. I want something unique.
Current Thoughts – Nice guitar, but no.
Finish – Trans Amber
Pros – This is my favorite basic Soltero finish. This color really suits the design.
Cons – This seems to be the popular finish for the Soltero SL and thus not unique enough.
Current Thoughts – Not for a U.S. model.
Finish – Trans Blackburst
Pros – This is a great look on the Soltero.
Cons – This is the ‘Wayne’ finish. It’s got a lot of black in it. I’ve trying to avoid lots of black on my next Soltero.
Current Thoughts – Nice guitar, but no.
Finish – Faded Denim
Pros – One of my favorite Dean finishes.
Cons – I’m not sure what hardware looks good with this model. It’s also a bit similar to my Hardtail finish
Current Thoughts – Maybe
Finish – Trans green
Pros – I love green guitars.
Cons – I don’t like the green Soltero at Drum City. Maybe it’s the black hardware that looks strange to me.
Current Thoughts – Maybe.
Finish – Trans blue
Pros – Some of the best looking Deans have been trans blue.
Cons – The finish seems to be hit or miss with me. As I mentioned above, some of my favorite Deans are trans blue, however I’ve seen some trans blue that I didn’t like at all. I hate the overly gaudy saturated blue that’s on some Hardtails.
Current Thoughts – Maybe.
Finish – Trans brown
Pros – A rich classic look.
Cons – I have too many brown based guitars already.
Current Thoughts – No.
Finish – Trans red
Pros – The trans red Soltero in the new ad looks nice.
Cons – It’s a bit plain looking to me.
Current Thoughts – Maybe.
Finish – Trans purple
Pros – I like some purple guitars
Cons – Purple is cool on a V, but a little much for a Soltero.
Current Thoughts – No.
Finish – Burnt Denim
Pros – An original look on a guitar.
Cons – I have too many brown based guitars already.
Current Thoughts – No.
Finish – Exotic (redwood, spalted, walnut, etc)
Pros – I love exotic Deans
Cons – I haven’t seen an Exotic Soltero. Not sure one has been made. Could be extra $$$.
Current Thoughts – Maybe.
Finish – Caribbean Burst
Pros – A great looking finish
Cons – I doubt a custom finish is possible for me.
Current Thoughts – Not likely.
Testament fans, new song here!!!
It's badass!! Alex Skolnick FTMFW!!!

BURN IT ALL Featuring FEAR FACTORY, Ex-DAMAGEPLAN Members: First Photo Released - Mar. 6, 2008
The first photo has been released of BURN IT ALL, the new band featuring FEAR FACTORY members Christian Olde Wolbers (guitar) and Raymond Herrera (drums) alongside former DAMAGEPLAN singer/HALFORD guitarist Patrick Lachman. As BLABBERMOUTH.NET exclusively reported yesterday, the group is currently shopping a four-song demo containing the following tracks:
01. Disciple
02. Spiral Fracture
03. Godless
04. War To End War
FEAR FACTORY is currently on hiatus while the band's frontman, Burton C. Bell, focuses his attention on the ASCENSION OF THE WATCHERS project, which recently inked a deal with MINISTRY mainman Al Jourgensen's 13th Planet Records.
FEAR FACTORY is presently unsigned, having parted ways with Liquid 8 Records, the label that issued the group's last two albums — 2004's "Archetype" and 2005's "Transgression"

Questions about the Mesa Mark III & IV
So I've been looking for a great tube amp ..... something I can get many sounds out of and that is 2 channels or more.
I was looking at the 5150 and other Peavey series but I want some thing that well has an amazing tone.
Not saying that the 5150 doesn't, but I want something that can go from blues to metal. Tried the JSX and the XXX but didn't like them.
I'm not looking for a high gain monster.
So I've been looking at the Mark series and reading different reviews on the forum and read some amazing things on it. I hear that the Mark C+ is the Holy Grail of the Mesa line and find the normal ones from $800 to $1200.
I was also looking at Orange and I love their sound but the price is waaaaay out of my range.
I really want a David Gilmour to Jimmy Page type sound but then go to a Metallica Masters or Lightning sound ( which shouldn't be hard with the Mark amp. )
I really love the sound of British amps like the Orange or esp. HiWatts ( just watched Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii again and damn his tone is amazing). I really can't find a Marshall I like ..... The JCM800 is awesome but is only one channel.
So I guess my question is can the Mark series give me a great clean for blues and such, get a great classic rock sound and be able to turn up the gain for the more heavier stuff.

Hey guys does anyone have the pics of the slime bumblebee proto (the one that dime played in a room for a few hours) broken?
I'm doing an assignments for economics about shipping and stuff and would like to include pics of it broken in the assignment
Well I haven't been playing guitar very long(3 months) but I know a few songs, some chords and a couple scales. Right now I am very stuck on what songs to try, and what most important scales and chords to learn. So I was just wondering if some of you guys could give me some advice on a few songs, scales and chords to try. I also have a friend who has been playing for a year and says he knows like 1500 songs and he rubs it in my face a lot. Does it really matter how many songs I know? Just a little frustrated on these things really any advice helps. Many thanks.

Today, went up to the OKC guitar center to check out some Deans.
played on the bumblebee slime razorback, the guitar looks AWESOME in person, much better than pictures, but the floyd on it is garbage. not really playability wise, but aesthetically speaking. it was like tinted chrome. just barely darker than regular chrome. looked like arse. but it was still a nice guitar, and the neck was nice and smooth. balance was awesome. just really nice, well playing guitar. I love this guitar, the razorback is definitely for me. just not the explosion.
DFH/CFH- I love this guitar as well, except for the looks, of course. plays nicely, and sounds pretty good, again the main draw is the neck. not as nice as the rb, but it's alright
X-series v. pretty alright, but i hate the neck joint.
Which would be a better buy?
$599 Culprit w/ EMG's
or
$299 1980 Reissue caddy
...and I decided to clean my play area up. I happened to find an old Metallica fabric banner I never hung up and I decided to go ahead and do some touching-up to my new Peavey VK. I took the whole front grille off the VK and I wrapper the banner around it with tacks and screwed it all back in place to create what I think is something pretty kick ass. I mean really, if you got it, flaunt it, right? Here's the final result:
And here's what the full Peavey/Randall monster stack I now own looks like. Thanks to all my Dean brothers who helped me figure out that I can indeed hook my VK to my Randall cab. I haven't had a chance to really crank it up yet, but I do know that the cab gives me the same bottom end as it did when I was running through the Randall head, so now my tone is twice as mean as it was before.
And with my DBDT with my new Dimebucker in it, which makes that VK SCREAM!
...and now my bragging is done. Now I just need to hold out until next tax time to be able to buy even more new stuff I can brag about.
My sister asked me today for some advice on acoustics. she wants to buy one. she asked me what brands she should look for, and i replied with Dean, Yamaha and tanglewood (these being the only guitars i have played and found then nice to play. nice sounding etc). she told me that she wants a nice warn sound, and that it dosent have to be and electro acoustic.
she then hit me with the statement she only wants to pay £150/£200.
would you buy and acoustic from ebay without checking it out?
what do you think...

Themed photoshop contest.
by * on Sun Mar 09, 2008 6:27 pm
Make a photoshop of a dean themed after something.
for example, give an ML a grabber orange paintjob, and some decals to make a "Boss 302" guitar. then post it up with the thing it was modeled after.
Rules: Must follow a theme(of your choice.) must use a Dean body as a base, and keep original lines. in otherwords, if it's an ML, it needs to LOOK like an ML when you're done. add/subtract/or replace anything else as you see fit.
Prize...TBD (though, isn't the good time and time killing factor enough?)
here is my entry. the Dean Donkey Kong from hell. i got the idea because yesterday at guitar center the blue paint of the CFH with the cream binding made me think of the arcade version of donkey kong.
Dixie Rebel vs. DFH/CFH neck
by goop on Sun Mar 09, 2008 10:08 pm
are they the same necks, V shape ??? I like the CFH V neck but not the graphics. I can live with the DR graphics a little more. Something about that SMURF Blue on the CFH that makes me crazy.
Thank you guys.
I cant even lie, were it not for you guys and my girlfriend i wouldnt be playing still. Your support thru a rough spot was got me thru. So (not to sound like a hellyeah song or anything), Thank you, for everything you guys have done for me.
The kellys and the digitech are gone. Theres a new member of the family now. I'll post my new guitar day on another thread.
Again, thank you guys. Each and every one of you are amazing.
- Christian
As i posted in my other thread Here I'm still playing thanks to you guys and the kellys are out, the digitech is out. I kept my vox amp that i love and my connolly and now instead i added this fiddle to the family......
my girl had me sit down, and just listen to music i love. then she had me write down what about each of those guitarists sound, not playing, but sound, that i love so much.
then i took that paper with me down to sam ash, and then neals music, and played a ton of stuff. shockingly, the one i dug the most, i couldnt have because well... it wasnt for sale, it was an employee's and go figure, that was the one i dug the most, it was next to the counter so i figured i could just pick it up and play it lol. He was cool about me playing it though. I have one of those coming down the pipe if i can figure out the money later on i think. you guys will see what that is, IF it happens.
But on to what I did, get....
This little fiddle here I found at neals and it was very different from what i dug first but it embodied tonally with MY AMP (thats the key here, every fiddle i played, i played thru my own combo amp) a lot of what i love. i love it SO much more than the kellys. Whats funny is this has twice the low end balls my old fiddles did (although nowhere near what my connolly provides especially when its setup for drop b.
So without further delay i give you my new LTD (my first)
The George Lynch GL-256 57' Reissue Relic
Again, thank you guys so much. you kept me playing, you guys made this possible. Off to work on my g major scales.......

Well, ive just sold my Dean from Hell, it was a hell of a guitar but it had to go, i dont know why but I really feel like im part of the 'sheep' crowd when I play that guitar, and thats somewhere im not to keen on being, I dont get that when I play any other 'dime' guitar, weird...
The guitar plays beautifully and does look stunning, but anyway, its gone now, and as the saying goes, out with the old and in with the new.
New guitar arrived saturday morning, but as ive been at work I havent had chance to take pictures, so ive just taken some about half an hour ago, so here they are!
Man I love this thing! The neck is sooo comfortable, it almost looks and feels like a D neck rather than a C. Its definately not as thick as the 79's neck. Overall its a very solid guitar, no dings or anything, its in beautiful condition. Pickups could be better, but they will do until I get replacements. I love the top! Its sort of a mix between trans and quilt, either way it rocks.
The main reason I bought another slime is because on the old one I had the floyd rose was mounted on top of the body instead of inside it, this made the strings very high, and as the pickups arent very hot this meant the volume and gain was lacking. This 333 is the second version washburn made, with natural back and proper floyd routing, and im so glad I snagged it.
All in all im very happy with my recent purchase, all I need now is a L500XL for the bridge and im sorted
I'm in search of a good wireless for my bass. a single slot rackmount would be perfect since I have one empty spot in my case.
I did a quick search on MF and came up with this

any suggestions/opinions on this one, or in general?

Assignments assignments assignments..........
i am currently studying Ba honors Music Technology In Uni
for a while i have been putting off some assignments for my course and it has just come to my attention that i have 4 assignments due for this friday.
Assignment 1 - i have to compile a music concrete, using everyday sounds. im thinking of recording my everyday sounds e.g. brushing teeth, loo flushing, frying bacon etc. this concrete has to be 2-3 minutes and i also have to write a 2,000 word write up on it. How the Hell am i going to write 2,000 words on a concrete. this sucks
Assignmnent 2 - i have to do a 2,000 word write up (again) on electronics (the subject is Op amps), but the lecturer is never there and he is off his face. he dosen't teach us anything. he didn't even know when the submition date for this assignment was. to sum it up this guys a FAG
Assignment 3 - i have to create a website using adobe flash cS3. the lecturer teaching this module is good, hes funny and informative. but everyone in the class has used flash before apart from me so he dosen't really bridge the gap. so again im screwed
Assignment 4 - i have 12 hours to record a band. this is what im most looking forward to doing. i have my mates band coming in which is good because they are metal- which i like . but i haven't been tought hardly anything in the module as the building wasn't finished on time. for the first 3 months we were having lectures in a tent. thats right a TENT.
so to sum all of this up my life currently sucks. whats your views??
anyone know where i can get some Flash web-building Tutorials on the web (i cant find any).
also what can i write about for my concrete?
cheers for listening

http://www.deanguitars.com/summer06/lw_gal/pages/LWSig-BeautyShot-06_JPG.htm
dont those ends look like they will just either pull out or break?
i mean i realize thats how they sit in any fixed bridge but, that dont look like it would work too well
thats just my input on it.
Razorback V Discontinued?
Musicians Friend is selling the standard V's hella cheap 600 bones! I see Music Farm is selling the two tone for $699. So does this mean that the Razorback V is kicking the bucket?
EDIT: Link http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-DEAN-DIME-RAZORBACK-V-METALLIC-WHITE-ELE-GUITAR_W0QQitemZ220208931420QQihZ012QQcategoryZ2384QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262
Hellyeah, It's pretty late here, so I only had time to fiddle with the stompboxes for about an hour, but immediatly got a several sounds out that I like. Eventhou three of those pedals are Behringer they do their job. Okey, that fx600 makes a lot of sizzzzling on the side, but It doesn't matter. I use it for about 5 minutes for every hour played.
But that Pandora was a little disapointment so far. Ok, I only have played all the pre-saved sounds and not even tryed to make my own sounds, so I'm only disapointed about the sounds they made in it. I got more time to get into it on thrusday.
But damn, those stompboxes were a good buy \m/ (~_~ \m/

epiphone's iommi SG right handed
epiphones lefty version of the same guitar.
either i can't count, or the lefties got screwed.
compare frets.
is it worth installing a schaller?
whats the differences between a schaller and an original? wold it be better to go regular or low profile? any experience with both?
Hey guys!
Let me start off by saying, I began playing guitar about 8 to 9 months ago (well seriously playing, if you count all the time I had a guitar laying around I'd have been playing for 2 years haha!) but I have advanced pretty quickly, and now am somewhat growing out of my Schecter (006 deluxe, w/ factory pickups, tune o' matic bridge, standard things). Well, long story short, this summer I'm liquidating some items (xbox 360, schecter) and getting a job, with the money, I'm going to buy a new amp (if I get all A's for the rest of the year I don't have to though) and a new guitar.
Agian, long story short, I want my wings!
So I was looking at the ML '79 w/ a Floyd Rose for the longest time, UNTIL I saw the new MLK ML Knight, which is a much better choice for me, because I was going to up the 79 to EMG's anyway!
I've found the '79 for 599 on the internet, and the MLK for 699 (with a case), and they're basically the same thing, only the MLK has EMG's and looks (IMO) much better! So I'm basically heart-set on the MLK being the first of I'm sure what will eventually be my massive dean collection.
But, I can not find any details on the neck of the MLK, which is crucial for me, because I can't play thin necks (current geet is barely on the edge of too thin) as they hurt my wrist when I play for extend periods of time. I asked on Ultimate Guitar and got that the neck was a C shape (which I love) and a set-neck (something I NEED, I despise bolt ons!), so is this info correct? This will make or break this guitar for me!
But either way, I WILL end up with a dean before this year is over!

Any experience with this combo? Its not going to be for metal mostly, but if it can that is a plus...Im mainly looking for vintage Hendrix/Clapton style tones.
I got my first set of WINGS today w/pron !!!!!!!!
Well I just received my very first DEAN today !! It's a 2007 DOA Hardtail #10 and it is awesome !! A big thanks to deanmaniac for taking such good care of it . Here is a few quick pics I took right after opening the box.

floyd routing and not routing question.
ok i have always wondered this... ok so on my FBD the floyd sits parrallel and there is a routing where it dips into the body when i divebomb.
ok thats understood
so on guitars like a few of dimes i have seen. they keep the v plate on it and there is only routing to fit the trem into the body, so where does it go when you divebomb on a guitar w.o. the routing the hole?
i post pics if you dont understand the question.
For a while i have been looking for simple solo patterns which can be used freely to ascend/descend etc like a dime solo or a Hammett.
any ideas?
the little bar thing about the locking nut.
i have seen the little bar to hold the stings on headstocks of floyd guitars, and i have an idea of what it does, or at least what i would use it for, but whats it called?
Have you ever heard about them??
They made all tube amps (A or AB class), from 5 to 100 Watts.
I'm interestend about the BH100H HotHead, because this head can be used in A or AB class and in the same time full or half power (there are 2 switch in the front panel, one of them select the class, the other select the power): in practice you have 4 amps in 1.
I found that Black Heart Engineering is a Crate's team...nothing else.
Someone have ever tried this brand of amps or knows something else (prices, construction quality...)??

Should I Put a SD Invader in the bridge of Cadzilla?
by rridner on Tue Mar 11, 2008 1:15 pm
I have had this pup lying around for a while. The guitar I was originally going to put it in is no longer in my possesion. So, Cadzilla is now the only feasible candidate. I have a Dimebucker too, but that is not an option
Just got it in the mail yesterday. It seems pretty great so far. It's got lots of portions of old articles and a plethora of other stuff from the years. The cover is a spinoff of the movie '300' with a big group of famous guitarists. However, one thing I hate about the cover is...
How can you put Mick Thompson from Slipknot, the idiots from Dragonforce, Billy Joe Armstrong from Green Day, Zacky Vengeance and Synyster Gates from Avenged Senfold, and Gene Simmons, a bass player, on the cover? Mick Thompson is up at the very front, even closer than Angus Young. The Dragonforce idiots are right behind him. That's prtty stupid if you ask me, but hey, I can't change it.
Another thing...
Where's David Gilmour?Where's Stevie Ray Vaughan?
They could've done a better job on the cover than they did.
Oh well, it's a great issue and I won't complain any further. I just think it's funny that these fools got on the cover instead of people who acually deserve to be there, like Gilmour, Vaughan, Zappa, Malmsteen, Blackmore, Lynch, Scott Ian, Duane Allman, Adam Jones, Clapton, Cantrell, Schuldiner, John 5, Frusciante, Morello, Joe Perry, George Harrison, and many others.
Napalm Death - You Suffer
How exactly is this considered a song? At less than one second, can you even consider it a song? I like Napalm Death and all, but geez, a 1 second song is pretty ridiculous. I may cover it at a talent show this year.
I need a big pic of the dean wings with black background
this is a member here...right?
was looking for random DOA pictures on google when i came across this guys collection. and all i gotta say is...

Part of one of my originals
I recorded this video very soon after coming up with the song.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=qc_Kt5FXU-s
Not the best quality sound. I'm playing my Schecter Tempest Custom through my VOX AC15 amp using it's onboard reverb (which is pure grox.)
And yes, I recorded the rhythm track on a tape player, hence the harsh sound. I need a Digitech JamMan.
Tell me if you like it or not! There will be more to it after a while. This is strictly a section where I stick to a 2 chord rhythm.
Randall RS412XJM Cab?
by Pentan on Tue Mar 11, 2008 5:19 pm
Im buying the Randall RH150G3 in one month but I cant decide what Cab I will buy to it. It will be the Randall RS412XJM with Jagyars or the Randall RS412CV with Celestion V30's, what do you guys think?
I saw that guitar geek did Pepper's rig in this month's guitar world. I heard that they did Kirk's rig in guitar world a while back..anyone know which month and year it was in? I'm looking for the back issue..or could anyone post a scanned pic of it?? please holler.
Ok, I was browsing and heard about LFR's, and how normally after a two-three years they need to be replaced, but that an OFR usually stayed sharp. Is this true? If I don't invest in an OFR will I bite the bullet down the line?
If so, how much does a replacement LFR from Dean usually cost? Could I install it myself without too much hassle or risk to my guitar? It wouldn't be a problem for me, but I don't want to have to spend 100+ on parts every other year, then 75+ on installation if I could just buy something that wouldn't have to be replaced for maybe every five years, or would stay good set up right even longer.
I'm new to Floyd's, sorry if these are newb-ish questions, but if I a FR is going to turn into every few years shelling out 200(ish) dollars then I'd much rather just go with a string-thru even though I really want a trem
Thanks in advance for all replies!
Volume Pedal/String spacing
Ok so I've been hunting for someone from a company with the answer to this question for over two months. Which will be closer to the Dean ML '79F's string spacing the 1-11/16 wide or narrow? Another thing, I called up a company but he said ORF won't just drop into the routing, because the posts won't fit, so again I ask whether or not this is a drop in type of replacement.
Also, instead of an attenuator, can I just get a volume pedal and max out the amp but lower the volume by a volume pedal? I'm talking tube here.
Sorry but search doesn't work for me sometimes.
Usually im alright with effects type subjects but im just wondering if a compressor/limiter/expander also acts as a noise gate...And also if not what would be a good noise gate to buy. Id prefer a rack noise gate.
I've been in love with Zakks tone for awhile now, its thick and heavy sounding and most like the tone I hear in my head.... question is.... how do I go about achieving this with my gear... I have a Randall Warhead and a Mahogany Axe with a D activator in it (close to emg81) How would I set the 9band eq on the warhead and how would I set the eq on the knobs? Is it a mid heavy tone??? Not sure but i love it... And anyone know his tuning on the 1919 eternal album i love his tone there
hey guys,
ok i know i have had a bunch of amp and whatnot questions but i just wanna have some stuff clear lol
ok so what is running an amp dry mean?
i mean i just learned what scooping the mids are and now theres all this dry talk lol, i cant keep up with the new hip lingo
Does anyone have a really good pic of their TLTML with the black Dean logo, zebra neck pup and Dimebucker bridge pup? If you could post it, I would appreciate it!
Thanks...
Anyone ever played one, if so i was wondering what they sound like and are the necks comfy and thin?
not on dean guitars.com but real ones of the cemetery gates rb
Stretches on a Z or ML.
by * on Wed Mar 12, 2008 12:27 pm
hey dudes. so, i've always had this problem with my ML, and i was wondering if you knew of any solutions. i have pretty short fingers, i can't do big 2-9 type s#%t. but i like to do some stretches on the upper frets from time to time when i practice leads. HERE is the problem, to do those stretches, i have to bend my wrist and kind of "hook" my arm over the neck of the guitar, but the Horn on the cutaway gets in my way on the ML. is there another way of going about it?

The Holy V? WTF?!?!
Reverse Explorer? Double WTF?!?
Even the commemorative V and Explorer don't look all that great, especially comparing them to my TCV!!!
The Shred V and Shred Explorer look half decent - just get rid of the Kahlers and the stupid black dot inlay on an ebony board, and Gibson would finally have a decent looking guitar.
And hey, let's not even begin to talk about build quality.......
Let's talk delays!
by emunder on Wed Mar 12, 2008 6:24 pm
I'm looking at picking up a new delay pedal and wanted to get some opinions on what ya'll are using. I'm not looking for something that is ultra versitile I am just looking to emphasis my leads with a little delay. I have a Digitech Digidelay and it's OK but it creates a lot of noise when it's on. Price really is not a factor.

OH! MY! GAWD!!!! I know where all three are but the ML would be the missing link. That owner has only posted once and I'm not sure he even has it. Dischord has the Z and V. What a Triple set huh?
I'll just go over here and wait for my Korina Standard to arrive from Dallas.
anyone use fast-fret? i was thinking about picking some up.
Happy Payday to Me..
by Vince on Wed Mar 12, 2008 8:46 pm
well, this coming tuesday actually.
I think i'm gonna buy a new multi-effects pedal.
the one i have right now is the Digitech RP100R, but it's my friends and he wants it back. Thing that sucks is i have these four specific really sick tones that i preset to it that i dont wanna have to give up. so therefore i'm getting a new pedal to make up for it.
out of these four tones, two are Crowbar, and one of em is Death.
they are basically dead-on too.
i also have alot of nice clean tones and some nice harmony going on too. some wicked delays and phasers too.
so what kind of pedal do you suggest for multi-tones/sounds and endless possibilities for low and high tunings without getting too confusing with the controls, but lots to work with.
also one with an expression pedal built in would be pretty cool.
any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Rocking anime tunes.
by Blazer on Wed Mar 12, 2008 9:18 pm
Most of the times when an anime series is syndicated in the USA and is released in a dub version the original score makes place for something composed for the western markets and in some cases that's a real shame since some of the songs from original Japanese score really have a nice rocking feel.
Such as This one...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRt8ZqBoR1g
"Butterfly" from the first season of "Digimon"
This one was a number one hit in Japan
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HI7ScHupM4Y
"Konya wa Hurricane" (Goodnight, Hurricane) from the "Bubblegum crisis 2033" score. This song was completely re-recorded but that USA version failed to get that power from the original and the singer sounded bored.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COCojinczyU
"Maemuki Roketto dan" (Optimistic Team Rocket) from the imfamous series called "Pokémon" this is a jumping ska song that is irrisistable to try to sing along to (If you can sing in japanese ofcourse) this is not the official clip but I posted this version because it has the full song.
It's a shame really that a lot of kids who are enjoying these shows don't know what kind of music they're missing out on.
gibson sues activision over GUITAR HERO
just saw on cn cnbc that gibson guitar company is sueing the makers of guitar hero because gibson claims that they had a late 90s(98 or 99) patent on virtual guitar game.
Activision's "Guitar Hero" violates patent-Gibsonupdated 57 minutes agoFont size: By Scott Hillis and Gina Keating
SAN FRANCISCO/LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Gibson Guitar Inc has told Activision Inc that its wildly popular "Guitar Hero" video games infringe one of Gibson's patents, and Activision has asked a U.S. court to find the claim invalid.
Gibson said the games, in which players press buttons on a guitar-shaped controller in time with notes on a TV screen, violates a 1999 patent for technology to simulate a musical performance.
On Tuesday, Activision filed a lawsuit asking the U.S. District Court for Central California to declare Gibson's patent invalid and to bar it from seeking damages.
Gibson made its claims in a letter sent to Activision in January, a copy of which was included in Activision's lawsuit.
Activision shares closed down 1.14 percent at $26.82 on Nasdaq on Wednesday.
The "Guitar Hero" series has sold more than 14 million units in North America and raked in more than $1 billion since its 2005 debut.
Gibson, whose electric guitars are used by legendary blues and rock artists such as Eric Clapton, B.B. King and Slash, has been a high-profile partner in the "Guitar Hero" games, with Activision licensing the rights to model its controllers on Gibson guitar models and to use their likenesses in the game.
"Gibson is a good partner, and we have a great deal of respect for them. We disagree with the applicability of their patent and would like a legal determination on this," Activision general counsel George Rose said in a statement.
Gibson could not be reached for comment.
A copy of Gibson's patent included in the court filing showed a method for simulating a live performance using a musical instrument, a 3D headset with stereo speakers, and a pre-recorded concert.
"Based on our preliminary analysis, the 'Guitar Hero' software (including any expansion packs) and the guitar controller provided by Activision being used as a musical instrument (packaged with the software or sold standalone) are covered by the ... patent," Gibson's law firm said in its January 7 letter. "Gibson requests that Activision obtain a license under Gibson's ... patent or halt sales of any version of the 'Guitar Hero' game software."
Activision said its games did not infringe Gibson's patent, and that by waiting three years to raise its claim, the guitar maker had granted an implied license for any technology.

talk about late to the party ..... as one of the guys on cnbc said . yeah a little late .

I know Ran blatantly rips off other guitars, but
by flah on Thu Mar 13, 2008 12:28 am
damn, even the headstock logo on this Ran is too close to Dean.....
I know there has been discussion on here about Ran guitars, but based on these, the jury's out for me on these guitars. As nice as the quality looks and the crazy custom options, outright copies just seem so........ cheesy. I don't mind some of the King V ripoffs because at least they did a new headstock (and gave the King V more symmetry than the Jackson pointy), but these new ones just seem so wannabee. In all fairness, I guess they are custom orders and make guitars to a customer's exact specs.
Here are some other recent examples for those who haven't been to the website recently:
A new Cannibal Corpse siggy:
A bevel-less Razorback:
A full blown Razorback copy:
A Moser Bastard copy:
When are they gonna come up with some original designs? Again in all fairness, I suppose Jackson and even Dean started out copying established designs, so maybe we just oughtta give Ran some time.
okay guys i'm in like a blah state right now. i'm actually considering taking a break. so like i practice at home alone like most of us.and well ive just lost my intrest like getting around with buddies to jam or showing off is still fun but playing along with my favorite songs doesnt hold me anymore. i try to write my own stuff and it comes out bad. no emotion to it anymore. whats going on anybody have any tips on how to get through this? like all my gear is boring me do i just need to buy new gear?? that i dont have money for

New Family Member "White Gold" V
The guitar arrived today. It sounds decent, very well balanced and plays good right out of the box. I am going to install some Boomers on it, do a set up and I think it will be pretty sweet.
Im sure there are some of you on here who are anxious to hear it!
not a fan of the crusade, but Ember and Ascendancy were awsome albums so i hope its in that general direction
any thoughts?
does anyone have a pic of the new dime slime razorback v?

the dean website offers dean v 79 in a TBZ finish. but do those thins actually exist? i'm sick of cherry burst, and think it looks weird...but at the same time, it seems to be the most common v79 finish to be found around.
i think it goes like this:
cherry burst
black
white(also white gold)
blue burst
and then the TBZ sounds more of a myth...

New amp.. Heavy classic rock tone - HELP
Ok so ive been messing with my randall warhead trying for a heavier classic rock tone such as a zakk wylde type tone and i cant get a convincing tone and i can no way get a classic-y like ZZ top crunch with this amp it sounds... too solid state duh. Great amp but i need the versatility. So ill be getting a new amp i need a new tube amp that can do metal ala Maiden and Wylde and classics like sabbath as well as crunchy stuff like zz top and well u know the countless other crunchy toned classic rock bands. preferably in the $400-600 range for a combo or head AND cab im only 17 but am in a pretty heavy band that also does classic rock covers. THX...
<3 THE MIDS!!!!
New Amp Head PrOn inside!!
So it's been a long time since I've messed with anything solid state. Accept for my Roland Cube 20x that I use as a practice amp for around the house. I've been using a Peavey 5150 as my main head in my rig. So I last week I started thinking about how I wanted to mess around with tones and different heads and different types of heads. And I have a little bit of play money from getting my taxes. So I started looking at some randalls. (Not looking for dime tone in any shape or form). I just wanted to check one out. Only had played on one at music shops a little. So I ordered a Randall RH150 G3. Why not, I figured if I wasn't pleased with it I would just ebay it. So what if I loosed a little money out of reselling it. The point is I'm just toying around with different amps seeing what kind of tones I can get. So I ordered it and as the days go by waiting for the fed ex guy to show up I'm saying to myself what am I doing. This was such a impulse buy. I'm going to regret it. In no way can this thing meet up to my 5150. So I got it a few days ago. Toyed with it only at hour at a time when I had the time after getting off of work. So today I actually had some time to really throw some eqs and pedals and stuff in this thing to see what it could do. And the end result was AMAZING. I know a lot of you are saying wow you're down grading. Going from the all mighty 5150 down to a mid ranged solid state amp. Or Valve state I guess you could say. But know this thing really did surprise me. First of all. I'm running this head through a Mesa Boogie Oversized cabinet with vintage 30's in it. I'm running a MXR (black) six band EQ through it. And a sonic maximizer. The amp has 3 channels. A clean channel of course and a Gain 1 and a Gain 2 Channel. I would describe the gain 1 as being more of a rock gain. And the Gain 2 as a balls out Randall rip your face off gain. I found the gain 2 to be a little to much for my liking. So what I did was is put my gain 1 with the gain all the way at 10. Ran my eq in it which gives me a little dirtyness and my sonic maximizer that also dirties it up a little more. I used my razorback with EMG 81/85s for this. The end result was a perfect amount of gain. It's very clear but very dirty. I use my gain 2 for solos as a boost I guess you could say. This head really surprised me. As soon as I get a chance I will make a video for you guys demoing out my settings and stuff.
I have another toy on the way right now as well. I ordered myself a Dean Dark Knight ML F from steve yesterday. So I'm pretty pumped for that as well. Should be here tomorrow according to FedEx. We'll see though. I'd be surprised if it was. But yeah, when the geet gets here I'll have some pron up for you guys. But until then heres a little Randall pron!!!!!

Dean ML paintjobs
by pitiful on Fri Mar 14, 2008 10:10 am
I'm thinking of selling my ML79F w/ OFR and buying a DFH to replace it since I like the v-profile neck better than the one in my 79. My problem is that I don't like the lightning bolt finish. Nothing wrong with the paintjob. It's just too Dime to me
So I'm thinking of buying a DFH and then getting it to repainted. You guys have any suggestions to that new paintjob? Pics would be nice too

What is up with this. I can't find any good pics....It looks like the top neck is a 12 string with tuners at both the top and bottom???
I have never seem a 12 string with tuners on the bottom...
Which ENGL Combo sounds the most like the powerball. I don't have the money to get the ball yet but one of their combos will do for small gigs.
My amateur pjornography
by flah on Fri Mar 14, 2008 9:13 pm
My second Dean and the greatest guitar I have ever owned, a TCV:
My first Dean, a TCZ sold to Bucketass:
My B.C. Rich Warlock, another of my favorite guitars:
My 96 Fly Deluxe, my main stage guitar for 10 years until I sold it a few years ago. This one has the Buzz Feiten system, and a Sperzel Drop D tuner on it:
My PRS Custom 22, my second PRS and one of the sexiest guitars I own:
My 94 Les Paul Standard that I sold recently, but have a video on YouTube visited by over 80,000 viewers (or maybe it's just me that's watched it 80,000 times......)
One of my favorite guitars, an Ibanez SCA220 in front of my Bogner Ecstasy:
A few of my other less played guitars, from left to right a Jackson kelly that I diamond plated, a Gibson Chet Atkins Country Gentleman, a Custom Shop Charvel Strat with Kahler (totally custom ordered by me in 1985), a Custom Shop Jackson Strat (the snakeskin glows in the dark!!), and up top is a Music Man EVH:
Also, my one and only bass - a 5 string Ibanez, and a 79 Fender Telecaster:
Here's a custom built Tele with stainless steel frets and Callaham parts, a Vintique stainless steel bridge, locking Klusons, a custom pickguard shaped by me, and Kinman pickups:
The acoustics, left to right, are an Aria classical, a brazilian rosewood Taylor 814bce, and a really sweet all maple Gibson J-100 (they recently changed the J-100 to different woods):
Here's some amps, first of all, a '65 Fender Showman head:
A DSL50 that I sold:
An early Dual Recto, once owned by Tommy Shaw, that I sold (I actually re-tolexed this amp when I first bought it):
A shot of the family of amps. Prior to the Marshall, I was playing Peavey in the 80s, then a Mesa Mark III combo, then an ADA MP-1 rack with a Marshall 1960 cab (all of which have been sold and I sadly don't have any pictures):
And here are various guitars that I've sold:
Sadly, there are lots of guitars that I never photographed too, but this is a good representation.
Bought a four space rack... Three spots are filled...
Ok... so I have a 2 space Rane EQ that's being given to me, a Phonic Power Conditioner... What do I need to fill that last space? Hmm?
Been listening to the song 'Metalingus' by Alter Bridge, and imo its a very uplifting track, so I was wondering if anyone knows any other songs which are uplifting like this track is?

My USA Dean idea.
by * on Sat Mar 15, 2008 4:23 am
okay, home skillets. i've been thinking about this for a while now, but i'd like to know your take on it, as consumers and fans of Dean guitars.
Many of you on here think that dean should have Some guitars that remain prestigious and high end only, in other words, a purely USA model.
Many of you on here also would REALLY like to see the return of the Dean Bel Aire, The eighty eight, and the introduction of a Demonator guitar (aside from just the proto)
So, what if they re-introduced the Bel Aire and Eighty Eight as a USA only model, by order only?
why? lots of people (at least, i think) really loved the bel aires, and would love a chance to own another one. you would get the old guys buying them for nostalgia, and maybe some new fans that never had a chance to own an original.
maybe elliott doesn't think they would sell, but it wouldn't hurt to have them available as USAs since they're only made upon order, would it?
anyway, i don't pretend to know anything about how their business works, but it was just a thought. What do you think?

each pup is mounted on a block that can slide into place from the back of the guitar--all of the electrical connections are made automatically.
it's an extremely cool idea, imo.
it was made as a demo unit to show off the different pups.

New guitar (#6) - Definitely NDC
by grinder on Sun Mar 16, 2008 12:51 am
Here's the down low on this one:
BaCh single pickup SG copy (made in the Czech Republic)
- Mahogany body & neck
- Rosewood fingerboard
- Water buffalo horn nut
- Single humbucker (vintage Seymour Duncan Invader)
- Single volume knob
- String through body
- Kluson tuners
Got it new for $300, installed the water buffalo horn nut and the SD Invader. The stock pickup sounded nice, but this geet was screaming for a vintage pickup.
On with thr pr0n:
My friend has a Squier rogue he said he would sell me. I've played it a lot and it is a decent guitar. But I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of wood it is made out of? I was thinking it's probably plywood, but i'm hoping its not 'cause I want to make a project guitar out of it.
i dont know if this as been put out there or not but my buddy and i were talkin about this the other day. what does everyone think of this game guitar hero? i dont like it. i think it is takin away people who wanna play the real thing. think about it for a sec. (kids i mean) if you were wanting to play guitar to learn and play certant songs what would you do play guitar hero or get a guitar and learn the song. i say this b/c i have seen kids wanna play guitar hero more then try and be like there guitar heros and learn the riffs and put the time into it. mabe i am crazy. what do you all think....

Thanks to Jon at Funky Munky! New Krank Rev Jr.
I never thought I'd buy one of these... but I had to see what all the hype was about. After reading Brad's review on his over the summer, I had the opportunity to try one out at a local store. It was on consignment and in pretty crappy shape but it sounded great!
I promptly called Jon who said he had a couple of special order Snake Skin versions, which I promptly checked out on his site.
Needless to say... I'm a sucker for snake skin tolex Jon UPS'd it to me that day!
Any way, I'm not going to re-hash Brad's review which is dead-nuts accurate! Thanks again Brad
It fills a hole that I had in my amp line-up. A small wattage, all tube, high gain amp that is really well-rounded... not just a metal amp.
If you have any doubts... DON'T! They are really sweet and reasonably priced for an amp of this nature.
Cheers!
post your DOA or ltd run guitars
i'm bored...so post away.
EDIT!: if there is a particular story behind a particular LTD run, or DOA guitar, feel free to share it here. example, how you got a hold of it? was there some sort of nick or ding on it when you got it, or you got it as a B-stock. or something. or you grabbed it off of some idiot who didnt know what he/she/it/its dog had, and so you grabbed it off of that person? wqhatever it is...
i'm trying to figure out what i want to do. i mean, i have a guitar(peavey vortex EXP.) that i got last year. i loved the guitar, until i got some other guitars, and kinda got bored of it. and i dont really like taking care of it so much coz of its pointyness either.
so, i was thinking if i should trade it for some sort of Dean 79 guitar, or a DOA guitar. if a 79, then either a blue burst V, or a TBZ v. or maybe a TBZ mlf. if not that, then some sort of agile, tokai or something.
at the same time, i'm kind of getting bored of metal. and have been feeling like i've gotten myself into some sort of guitar rut. and besides metal, i am a fan of classical music. weather its mozart and such, or classical guitar stuff like John Williams. so, i was thinking maybe i should go with some sort of classical guitar, and start finger picking my way through random stuff. and if not classical, then i really like flamenco as well. and thats not only me that enjoys playing/listening to that stuff, but whenever i'm playing some sort of classical piece, i get more heads turning my way, and people giving me complements. but when i play metal, people just pass by or just say 'ewww! thats noise!' or some other stupid comment. not that i really care about others opinions, but to be honest, i think i enjoy flameno/classical more. not that i know how to play either. but from random licks i do know....
which kinda brings me back to some sort of dean guitar. out of all the guitars ive tried before, deans have the widest nuts, which comparing to other guitars, makes it REALLY easy to finger pick. so, i COULD always get some dean, put the amp on clean, turn down the tone knob, and get a vague classical guitar tone from it, and kind of have the best of both worlds in a sense....
but dont really know. i could always sell my Vortex guitar, and pick up a classical guitar. i fell in love with this one classical guitar that i'm not too familiar with. apparently it was a 1978 Yari guitar. though it had a fairly thin body, its tone was the thickest/fullest/bass-i-est tone i've heard in any acoustic guitar. a very soothing tone...that guitar is going for 700ish i think. so, if i was able to sell my vortex for however much, then i can add a few hundred more and pick that up...
so, what should i do? :S
p40 tiger shark ML
by * on Sun Mar 16, 2008 5:43 pm
i can't believe dean has all these war/camo themed guitars without one based on this. the ML cutaway is PERFECT for some shark mouth action.
what thinks ye?
Just to clear up some confusion from a previous thread. The Peavey 6505 series is DESIGNED, MANUFACTURED and ASSEMBLED in the USA. Some people here were trying to say they were made in China. Not the case.
Ok, so I lost my patience...
So, here's the before pictures:
More pictures to come as I get further into the process - I'll show the guitar pretty much naked in the next couple pics I'm posting today.
I'll move onto stripping and painting once my MLF comes in.
I was thinking about it earlier today, and I've decided I want to add an acoustic guitar, because A) I don't have have one, but I have lots acoustic guitar stuff that I want to work with, and B) My last acoustic got crushed. So what are some good acoustic guitars to look for? Price range: 0$-700$ but prefer to keep it low.

Has anyone noticed how the subcatagories are all screwed up in electric guitars.
Looking for a finger workout?
Mr. Brightside from The Killers. No, not the chord prog. The actual way to properly play it will exercise your fingers very well. I was looking for something new and different to play and was surprised at the workout I got from playing the progression cleanly up to speed.

Project Help!
by Pachuco on Mon Mar 17, 2008 12:20 am
I started work on my guitar a little less than a month ago. I had to take a little break, got tired of using a block of wood and sand paper to take off the paint. I started again today, its finally naked!! What I want to do is put a veneer on it and stain the whole guitar, have not decided on a color yet. Anyway, I noticed that the sealer is REALLY THICK!! Is there a faster way to get through the sealer, or am I just going to have to tuff it out? Here are some pictures. Before: After:
RGs vs RGTs ... 80s Randalls
by Pete on Mon Mar 17, 2008 12:27 am
Hey i was looking at craigslist and spoted both. I was wondering if the tonal difference was huge between the SS and tube RGs.
I already love that SS sound, and i can't imagine right now the Tube stuff they made...
Anyone tried or a/b'ed them?
Hear N' Aid....
by 4x12 on Mon Mar 17, 2008 12:48 am
I thought some of you might get a kick out of this... some friends of mine over at the adadepot.com forum did a cover of that old 80's jam called Hear n' Aid - We're Stars.
I thinks a cool and unique version of it and all recorded with ADA MP-1's.
Check it out and enjoy!

Any Yamaha shredder fans?
Here's my wife's RGX Custom. Bone stock, as far as I can tell, it needs nothing but maybe a slightly hotter bridge pickup, as the stocker sounds a little lifeless to me. It's got a couple dings here and there, the worst is a little rash on the back which doesn't go through the finish, but it's got some of the coolest stuff ever: 5 ply throughneck w/ ebony, Yamaha double locker that rides on bearings instead of knife edges (and comes back to zero every time), height-adjustable locknut, 24 jumbos, cool switching and a push/push that bypasses everything but the bridge pickup and the angled, recessed jack. This is one of those superstrats that I might just force myself to play every now and then...once I find the factory allens for it. They're all oversized (also cool!!!!) and aren't like regular Floyd stuff and it needs new strings. I really have to find my metric stuff...
Looks like I forgot to wipe the hs down. Oops.

ok, if im sanding my guitar down to paint it, what do i do w/ the binding? sand it? or just sand the gloss off?
Iron frippin Maiden!
by Douce on Mon Mar 17, 2008 5:04 pm
Saw Iron Maiden last night in Toronto for my b-day. GOLDARN'! It was a hell of a show. And Bruce said that they plan on doing another Canada tour during the summer. I'm thinking i'm gonna have to hit that up as well, aha. Anyone else lucky enough to get to see them on this past tour?
Who should Dean Snag in 2008?
by * on Mon Mar 17, 2008 6:16 pm
well, who should they get this year?
Morello seems to be still up for grabs. and with a rage against the machine reuinion? lots of exposure there.
with a Stone Temple Pilots reunion on the horizon, i think Dean DeLeo, guitarist for the band would be a good choice
whoever the hell plays for seether, they suck IMO, but they tear up the top 10 on the rock charts every time they put something out.
Classics:
ALEX LIFESON. that dude played Gibsons, Strats, and PRS, but he's not signed on with any of them. Seems and obvious choice in the vein of the Leslie West deal. Get that man a Soltero, stat! rush is playing big venues on their snakes and arrows tour, and Alex is a very recognized artist.
Black Gold and 30th anniversery V
Do these two guitars have V necks or not?
Kthxbye!
LFR?
by Conbud on Mon Mar 17, 2008 8:52 pm
Does anyone know how I can find out what LFR is on my Dean Shadow?
I ordered an OFR before giving this any thought!
Well I was lucky enough that the wrong color was sent to me.
So I'm going to be sending it back, but first wanted to check this time and make sure it will work?
Doesn't Schaller come on most of the import ML's?
The guy who does the work on my guitar said that the last Dean he had in, the pickup cavity was routed too large for the tremolo studs to have proper support....thus he couldn't get it to work!
Here is the website I'm looking at to compare the Schaller to the OFR.
Schaller - http://www.warmoth.com/hardware/bridges/pdf/Schaller_Floyd_Rose_Diagram.pdf
OFR - http://www.warmoth.com/hardware/bridges/pdf/Original_Floyd_Rose_Diagram.pdf
Or if anyone knows if this can be done, please let me know?
The main reason I need this done.
The LFR that's on the Shadow really seems like crap for divebombs!
Ya know how you would do "just say" a pinch harmonic, then go to divebomb from there... you would pull back first then push down... well on mine it barely pulls back any... it only goes down!
I'm looking to get major squeals, and it seems like this thing is holding me back!
Any help is much appreciated,
Thanks gang!
Anyone have a picture of Eddie playing his Dean? All I found was this old picture from back when.

Soltero
by Vilches3 on Mon Mar 17, 2008 11:40 pm
soltero.........is an import gonna be released?...........if so......what will be the color options........and will it have ebony like the USA one?.....................these guitars are just insane looking
It's probably the same thing for bass and guitar, but I thought I'd be specific.
Does having too low of action, (in my case, the low E), kill some of the sustain? I've noticed while playing one of our songs, I let a 7th fret note on the low E ring out, and it seems to not sustain very long like I'd like it to. I have very very low action on my bass without any buzz, but if it had to be raised a hair, it would still be alright to play.
any tips on better sustain??
Thinking about snagging a Blackface Bassman.
My brother-in-law has a 1965 Blackface Fender Bassman with matching cabinet. I am thinking of buying it from him. He thinks its a '67 or '68, but I dated it to 1965. I was wondering what you guys think? Especially those of you that know old Fender Amps.
It is in super good shape... probably 8 out of 10 or better. It works well and doesnt make any crazy noises. He wants $900 for it, which is more than fair. It has the circuit code of AA165, which is quite rare and highly regarded. But as some of you know, Fender kept using the tube charts with old circuit codes after they changed the circuit. So based on the Date Code of "OK" (Nov 1965), it may be the more common AB165 circuit. Either of those circuits are supposedly great Bassman versions. I wont be able to tell for sure until I crack the amp open and check the components inside.
It is the typical garage sale story. My brother-in-law purchased it cheap at a garage sale more than 20 years ago from a father whose son left home and left the amp behind. So it sat in that guys house for more than 20 years, then it sat in my brother-in-law's house for another 20 years.
So should I snag this amp or what? Let me know. I am leaning towards doing it. Even if it needs new caps and some work, I still think its a wise investment.

DIMEBAG gone but not forgotten!
What does music mean to you?
Simply put...
If it weren't for music, I wouldn't function. I can't even think about what i'd do everyday if it weren't for music. Everything I do inspires me to do music. When i'm down, I can write a sappy ballad, instrumental OR with vocals. When i'm happy, I can take in everything and make a cool, 'happy' song, instrumental OR with vocals. Weird things that happen to me, bad things that happen to me, good things that happen to me, it doesn't matter. It all inspires music.
However, there have been times in which I was so down about things that I didn't even feel like picking up my guitar or a pencil to write lyrics expressing my feelings. This is where the music of other artists impacts me the most. I got into a deep depression over a lot of different things about a year ago. I was depressed and my friends were getting into drugs, so I started listening to the albums 'The Wall' and 'Lateralus' by Pink Floyd and Tool. These albums really helped me through this dark period and now i'm back to my cool old self again.
Basically, i'd kill myself without music. It's helped me in so many ways and it drives me. I can't live without it.
Please share your perspective.

Dean Edge Hammer Mid Boost acting wierd :(
I bought my dean edge hammer Bass about a little over half a year ago, and one day the mid boost suddenly decided to turn itself into a semi-volume knob
So basically when I try to boost the mid gain it shuts down the volume, but when I limit the mid gain it just does that normally.
So just wondering if anyone can help me fix this? or do i need to bring it in the shop? what could be the possible cause of this?
Thx in advance

A Washburn "Wonderbar" vibrato for the "Fido&
by Blazer on Tue Mar 18, 2008 3:47 pm
Here I am using the "Fido" during a rehearsal.
I'll be frank with you guys I love the "Fido", it has been my main studio guitar and I have used it on many performance with different bands I was in throughout the years but sometimes I reached for a whammy bar in vain.
But not anymore, because I bought a Washburn "Wonderbar" cam-trem from a buddy of mine for only ten bucks, here's a Trem unit that doesn't require routing and works really good. And so I took a drill and a screw driver and put it on...
The neck already had a Graphtec nut and roller stringtrees so there was no need for a locking nut. It stays in tune just fine and it's smooth like a pretty girl's skin.
Suggestions for next Contest
The first one for the Slayer ep was overall a success . Should we continue with the same format or do you have a better idea. NOTHING too easy please and something everyone can do

Does anyone here play jazz?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYmwrKs-ftM&feature=related
I'm not a huge jazz guy, but this guitarist in the video really has a great feel for it. I love the chords and single lines all intertwined.
who lives near or in minneapolis, MN?
im gonna be moving up there in july to go to college.
2 questions...
what are some good guitar stores?
and what are some good venues to look at for shows??
I want to record some guitar clips, but I dont really know how to go about it. I obviously need a mic, I can pick up a shure sm57 for around £65 so thats what im going to do, but besides the mic what else do I need? How does the mic connect to the computer, and do i need any special adapters/hardware?
Starting up an old band again (Amp Advice)
Okay, so I used to overdrive a Kustom Quad 100DFX with a Boss DS-1 and it gave off a REALLY heavy Black Sabbath-like tone. Now, i've gotten rid of the Kustom and don't have anything but a Vox AC-15 which I use for solo stuff.
So, i'm playing stoner/sludge metal in the realms of Electric Wizard, Bongzilla, Sleep, Down, Crowbar, Melvins, Sabbath, etc.
Good amps for this type of stuff? I'm looking for old amps in the price range of 400-600 bucks I can find used on Ebay. Reasonably easy to find stuff, please. Preferrably tube. I was looking at the Laney Pro Tube Lead heads because they pop up on Ebay every couple of days and I figured I could score one there, but I figured i'd come here to ask for some advice. Living in a half-sized town in MS isn't exactly the best way to go searching for amps to try out (especially for the type of music i'm gonna be playing.)

T.O.M bridge on a string through
by Flames on Wed Mar 19, 2008 11:56 am
hey guys,
I'm having a bit of trouble with my usa redwoods T.O.M bridge, the turny bits which alter the height (yes I know my vocab for guitar teching is amazing) just aren't turning! I've tried pushing the really hard but they only move a tinnnnny bit. Is there a trick to altering them? it doesn't have the bits where you can stick the screw driver in
Any forum members in Phoenix? I need help.

Cadzilla #40 & 1980RI = Cadillac pr0nage glaore!
Ok, so Cadzilla finally arrived home yesterday, to accompany my sexified (read: blacked out!) 1980 Reissue Cadillac. These guitars are both the same shape, obviously, but I think practically everything else about them is completely different, like binding (or lack thereof), flat top/arch top, quilt top/solid top, neck carve, pickups... even the thickness is completely different. I really was expecting something that felt exactly like the 1980, but with a different neck... but these guitars are incredibly different. When Cadzilla arrived, she was set up really well, with only the slightest bit of string buzz at the low end, and she was COMPLETELY in tune. In fact, I played it for a good 2 hours last night, and an hour or so today, and I still haven't even touched the tuning pegs. Jaw-dropping! I haven't really said too much about the 1980 I got about 2 months ago now, so...
On to some comparisons...
Cadzilla is definitely the heavier of the two. And thicker, to boot. The weight was really noticeable when I first picked the case up. I'd say, roughly, that the 1980 is about as thick as Cadzilla minus the binding height, so there's a good 1/4-inch difference, easy. However, because of that well known, near perfect balance that these Cadillac's have, you can't tell a difference in weight when strapped on the shoulder.
As for just looking at them, they both look stunning. Cadzilla is loaded with an X2N in the bridge, and a stocker in the neck, and the 1980 has a BLUSA and a GFS Crunchy Rails in the bridge and neck, respectively. I'm loving the look of the rail pickups in these guitars, and I think I'll end up getting a GFS Crunchy Rails for the neck of Cadzilla, cos I dig both the look and the sound that thing puts out. Cadzilla's X2N is a matt finish, and makes the shiny neck pickup look... kinda 'temporary' in comparison.
The quilt on Cadzilla is just awesome. The burst is perfect and blends in awesomely, it just cannot be faulted. The 1980 also has a flawless paintjob, and is the classiest, yet brutal looking guitar I've ever laid my hands on. Fit and finish on both is awesome, too. You wouldn't be able to tell that the 1980 has been modified, it's been done real professionally, with the only boogers being the bridge pickup ring and accompanying screws. The only bad spots on Cadzilla are a couple of unpainted parts where the binding meets the wood of the guitar, not very large, and they're both pictured. Other than that, these are both very nicely finished, definitely better than my LTD and Fernandes (the F&F on the Fernandes is shocking...)
So, with Cadzilla, my main worries when looking at other peoples pictures were that the colour looked a bit washed out, and the fret board looked like a very light coloured wood. These were both put to rest as soon as I saw mine in the flesh. I've taken a few similar pictures with slightly adjusted exposure times to try and show you how much and how easily pictures of the same object can differ from one another.
As people have said, neck carve on Cadzilla is a nice V, making it's was to a subtle C shape around the 12th fret. The neck carve on the 1980 is a real fat C, and really feels like a Les Paul. The Cadzilla neck is much more suited to me, I'm finding so far.
I've yet to put the Cadzilla through a 'proper' amp, so I can't comment on how I'm finding the X2N, but as I've said A million times on here already, me and the BLUSA in the 1980 fell out quite early in our relationship! If I dislike the X2N, I'll be ordering a few Seymour Duncan JB's, for sure.
So here is the result of a quick photo sesh I had this morning. I know I have a favourite picture... try an guess which one!

Century Media hooked me up! Jag Panzer content
WOW
I had bought another copy of Jag Panzer's Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald 7" vinyl (KICK ASS BUY IT OR DIE< SUPPORT OUR DEAN BROTHER MARK!!!) off eBay since copies are REALLY scarce, only 500 handnumbered copies from Eric of Century Media
Not only did he send me what I purchased but also sent me a bunch of rare samplers CDs:
Meshuggah - Obzen
After Forever - s/t
Dimmu Borgir - In Sorti Diaboli
Ion Dissonance - Minus the Herd
Death Angel - Riffing Season
He also sent me a bunch of promo stickers including one of Liquor & Poker autographed by Clay and a bitchin' Hypocrisy high quality one, Amorphis, Rage, Dimmu Borgir etc...
How cool is that? I am not sure how they treat the bands they sell recordings for but I will tell you the customer service is top notch and the prices about 50% less of what is on eBay or in the retail outlets. I also received my purchase within 3 days of payment
