Budda gets interviewed by Rolling Stone
by Büdda on Tue Apr 01, 2008 1:54 pm
Hey all, last night the wife and I went out for her birthday party at the local rock club here and We accidentally bumped another car pulling into the parking lot- no damage but turns out the other car was driven by one of the editors of rolling stone magazine, Christian Hoard.
We talked for a bit, mostly about modern music and the local scene here in utah and then all of a sudden he decides to interview me on the spot. Out comes our cam corder and the wife got the whole interview (lasted only 15 min or so, but hell; it was a treat!
Here is the video we poested of it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5737qtNpFc
Nothing will ever happen from this and it was kinda of just an impromptu thing, but it was cool!
Enjoy!
I am going to be playing in NYC at Arlene's Grocery on April 30th with the new band. It is listed as JP and the Shadows, but we are Silos Shadow now. I appreciate any support we can get. I have a bunch of people coming but we would like more of course. We go on at around 730 pm. Thanks for your support. We will be at Celota's in Harrisburg on the 2nd of May and then at Michaels Pub in Columbia, MD on the 3rd of May.

I'm considering getting a Boss GT 8...
Hey folks
I've been wanting a multi-effects processor for a while now, and the only one decent enough to consider purchasing around here is the Boss GT 8.
I've read great reviews about it, and the from the demo of it I found on Youtube, it seems awesome!
I'd go try it out, but I'm not sure if the people at the store let people try it out. So to the dudes that own it, any help would be much appreciated
This SUCKS BEYOND BELIEF!!!!!!
I wish this were an April 1 joke. It's not.
I have a gig this Saturday. It's in Germany. We're headlining a festival. It's being recorded and filmed. It's being simulcasted on the internet.
This is a HUGE gig.
So I order a flight case for my Soltero. This is my prized guitar. I must play it and it MUST be taken care of it.
I got the case today. The guitar doesn't fit.
I'm leaving tommorow night.
Not only did I do all the measurements for this guitar. I SENT THEM PHOTOS OF THE GUITAR WITH A RULER IN EACH SHOT!!!!!!!!!
I can't even close the case. They made it way too shallow. They didn't account for the neck joint of the guitar.
Now I am going to have to scramble to rig some kind of flight case for my Soltero. Either that or I play a headlining festival gig with a borrowed Les Paul for 1/2 the songs.

interesting find.
it's amazing that he got to the upper frets on a flipped Strat in the first place and managed to make it sound good.
but a flipped LP?...must have been for a song with mostly rythym..
Need opinion on Randall Vmax 30
A buddy is wondering about this amp and if it's worth looking at. Has anyone here tried one?
http://edmonton.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-musical-instruments-Randall-VMAX-30-W0QQAdIdZ44028818
So I am looking into music theory and I have been very confused on what scales to learn. There is so many and so many ways to play one I just don't know where to start. Which scales should a beginner(4 months) start working on first? I know a couple like F Pentatonic Minor, G Major, E Major, and B Pentatonic Major. I don't know how to do them all over the fretboard, but I know how to do them in one way.
I was with my friends the other day and while we were playing guitar my good friend Kevin and this other guy I know John were talking about intervals or something and they said something about "This is a whole step, Major Second, E to F#... and I don't understand them and it makes me feel stupid. What can I do to understand this?
Just a little lost any suggestions help, thanks.

Has anyone ever used a mxr pitch transposer?
I found this for sale locally (5 mins from my house). Dude says he paid $1500 in 1990, and he wants $350 for it. I had no clue what it was, so I googled it, and found out it was used in the 80's hit "In a big country". I was busy listening to Sabbath back then, but I remember this tune had a weird organ-like sounding guitar. From what I read on the net, it sounds like this can bend octaves kinda like a Whammy + analog.
Anyway, anyone ever use one of these? Just curious

Retro NAMM part III
by Wombat on Wed Apr 02, 2008 8:26 pm
In this episode of Retro NAMM I bring you some NDC from arond 1988, give or take a few years.
This was what I believed to be one of the most striking guitars in McCormick Place that particular year.
It is a PRS with a highly figured top, custom made for and owned by a female PRS executive.
The picture doesn't do it justice. It was finished with a pink stain!
all coments will help diagrahms work to PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!
i took my fat strat (a strat with a humbucker in the bridge position instead of a single coil) and tried to take out 2 of the knobs and both of the single coils and simplified it so it is easy
the reason why i did it in the first place was it mad me mad because every time i touched any metal on the guitar it made a load fuzz noize and i wanted it to be simple and single coils kinda piss me off Ha
the problem is know i dont known how to wire 1 humbucker to a volume knob to a out put jack without anything else just simple... no tone knob no switch
Are the specs on the sight right for it? because it says it comes with an Original Floyd.
Here's a fun thought. Over the years, I know I've had guitars that I wish I'd kept.
Mine were:
An Ibanez 25th Anniversary Les Paul copy. Best playing geet I ever owned.
A metallic blue Kramer Striker. Nice looking pointy geet. Went into one of those "trade all I have for a new amp" deals.
A little thing called a SilverTone. Very lightweight, lipstick pickup, played and sounded great. I traded a Clapton concert ticket for it back in the mid 70's. I stripped it, ripped it and used it for parts. Later learned that guitar is kind of a collector item. They used to sell them from Sears with an amp case.
What's yours?
Howdy guys. I'm new here. Sure most of you guys already figured that one out. Anyway, just figured I'd stop in and say howdy. BTW, if you're wondering what gear I use...it's all in the sig. Take it easy guys. Later
What is it about Green Guitars that gets us going???
We have had 3 Runs, that are green.
Cadzilla, Dethzilla, and the slime....also we have the Production slime, and the DimeSlime Razor

New Amp Day!
by Typhaon on Fri Apr 04, 2008 5:13 am
So i ended up getting that Century 200 II off of Ebay that was there about a week ago. Came today all nice and packaged; very clean. I plugged it up and liked the sound. It isn't quite as gainy as the RG but as i plan on using it side by side with the RG it will compliment its tone very well. The only problem ive had with it is the sustain switch, occasionally the volume will drop and the sound will start to break up, i can fix it if i jog the switch a bit. But sounds to me like it's a bad connection on the switch, Deoxit?
Anyways pron!
and the RG
I really dont want to show you whats underneath the two (I really need a cab)
Looking to learn something challenging. Any suggestions or do you guys have some good tabs. I want something kinda heavy, but real melodic. Also when you guys were in a rut, i know it happens to us all at some point, what did you do to get out of it. I just keep on playing the same songs over and over.

Very, very cool guy.
He came to Nashville 2 days ago doing promotional stuff for Peavey. He's been going around to bands in Nashville right now that are sponsored by Peavey like Bury Your Dead, Trivium, The Showdown, Red, and Unearth. I work at a music venue called Rocketown where Unearth and Bury Your Dead played last night. We talked a lot about Mustaine and Megadeth and where he really stands with them, etc. I learned that when I go to Gigantour on the 19 to take pictures, I shouldn't make eye contact with Mustaine if I pass him in a hall. That makes me feel awesome.
I also got to try a 6505 for the first time. It sounds extremely similar to my 5150, but had a bit more power to it. Also got to play around with Peavey guitars that are brand new. Pretty awesome, but not my thing.
Help me Identify this guitar.

Question about Dimarzio X2N

Guitar under 250$ for use with EMGS
by styphon on Sat Apr 05, 2008 4:59 pm
So my plan is to buy a guitar under 250$ to install a EMG 85/81 into. I am doing this to just add a different sounding guitar to the ones I already have.
What would you recommend? Epiphone SG special 310? ESP Viper 50? Dean Mustaine VMNT? Jackson JS30RR? Ibanez GAX70?
Tried a 6505+ today *pic added*
First of all I haven't been living under a rock.
The only other time I tried one was at a very low volume and through the 6505 cab. I tried one today through a V30 cab and got to run the head at reasonable volume and OMG did it ever sound sweet. I just sold one Warhead on Ebay and I'll be joining the 6505+ owners club very soon. Another contributing factor was I played all Pantera the last time. This time I played Skid Row, Poison, Van Halen ect and it blew me away. And they are ver affordable at 1159 cdn.
I know there's a lot of love for this amp on here so I thought I would share my experience. I'll post pron and videos when I eventually get it.
Can anyone give me a detailed review of the 79 ML w/Floyd?
Title says it all. Im seriously thinking about switchin to Dean from Ibanez, and since im kinna on a budget at the moment I saw this guitar and figured it was the best for what i want to play, with my price range. i would switch the pickups, but i do that more most guitars anyway. with that said i would like to hear what you all think of this guitar.
I just gave my 11 year old son his first guitar and amp yesterday since he's gotten really intersted in playing. Well one day later I went into my guitar room and he's got his little vox amp plugged from the line out/headphone jack plugged into my Peavey XXX about to crank it up!! He said he wanted to use the effects on his amp into my amp to make it sound better. It looks like I may have a mad tone tweaker on my hands....
Its been eight days and my Bugera has died.
Sending it back.
Updates later.
How can I get rid of feedback?

Finally happy with my tone
by Alex! on Sun Apr 06, 2008 4:06 pm
Phew. Only took 2 years. Yeah I know it's only a distortion pedal into the amp, but after boosting the mids by a tonne I'm happy.
Mustaine Livewires + boatload of mids = metal heaven.
Medium amounts of gain, treble and bass. God it sounds good.
Anyone else happy with their tone?
Does anyone have the link for that poster Total guitar did???
I saw it but i can't find it now

Randall RH200SC for a Peavey XXX Super 40?
I have the chance to buy a Peavey Triple XXX Super 40 combo amp, but if I get it ive gotta sell my Randall halfstack, do you guys reckon I should go for it? There are only a handful of clips on youtube but from what I heard it sounds killer. Is the amp basically the same as the head just with less wattage? I'll be playing stuff like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Trivium, BFMV, Killswitch, In Flames and Dark Tranquility type stuff, will this amp be able to handle all of these types of tones?
I questions for guitarists
I am curious, I read the posts about the shred and absolutely enjoy listening to most of the incredible jams from a lot of the talent on this message board ...
But I don't like to play it...I like the rhythm..the melody, and how guitars create a an atmosphere for a song to exist, I got wood with Kiss and the harmonizing guitars in Detroit Rock City...
Ok..so I may be showing my age here a bit... but its like this, Darrel was awesome in his own right so are a lot of the other guitarists out there but it make me a little nutty when all you hear about is the speed and the arpeggios and the effects....
I absolutely prefer the good old E power chord dry as a bone.... placed well with with a C......opinions?
Need a really large stencil

I was wondering what everyone has heard the album thinks about it. I am actually impressed with it, and it reminds me of Reroute to Remain, and even some of the early albums to a degree.
Though I think the Tone and the sounds of the guitars are different. i was also wondering if it was just me.
All in all, the Album is an amazing piece of work, and worth listening from beginning to end. Let me know what you all think about it.
Peavey XXX super 40 speaker out
I got my new Peavey XXX combo today and it frippin' rips! Tube tone rules plain and simple. But the amp didnt come with an instruction manual, so I have a question for those who know more about it than me. The speaker out jack on the back says 'min 16 ohms', so does this mean i can only connect it to 16 ohm speakers? I want to try it with my randall cab, but the randall cab only has a 4 and 8 ohm selector switch on the back. Does this mean I cant run the peavey into this cab?
The quest for the ultimate tone has ended!
I used a Boss GT6 for the last 5 years and I was just never happy with the way it sounded. I bough a Line 6 XT Live pedalboard and it was not any more user-friendly than the Boss, so I bit the bullet and picked up a Vox Tonelab SE. HOLY COW! What a difference that little tube makes. Until now, the Soldano SLO 100 was the best sounding amp I had ever used (at DOA) but this Vox Tonelab sounds absolutely amazing. It is knob-based and it takes just seconds to come up with sounds that you like. Anybody else ever used one of these?
Does anyone know the brand of pickup rings that Dean uses on all of their USA guitars? Primarily interested in Hardtail and Soltero pickup rings.
Thanks!

So I went to the store and brought my axe with me ( I recommend everyone do this ) and plugged into this sucker and I liked it a lot. Enough so that I bought it. Rehearsal is wednesday so I won't be able to give a full review until then but it sounds great so far even at low volume. I'm playing through a V30 loaded cab which seems to compliment this head well. I'm not a tube snob. I just got it cuz I needed more volume and I get to keep my pedalboard (FBV shortboard).

I wish I had some recording gear and a place to crank this. I won't be in the apartment next year so I'll get great tone than ha ha.
Here's the deal I use 11-50's (if that helps) and for some reason no matter how tight I lock in my high e it will not hold tune after some trem usage. Anyone know what the deal is? This strings are totally stretched out, and turning the pegs has no affect on the pitch so I know I'm doing it right, I just don't understand what's going on. Yes the floyd is level and the strings are all in perfect tune.
Does anyone know how good the speakers are in the Peavey XXX combos + cabs, and do you think it would be worth swapping it out for a Vintage 30? or something else maybe?
Let's talk time-based effects....
by emunder on Wed Apr 09, 2008 3:20 am
Want to try something different in the effects loop of my 6505 for delay, chorus, phaser, flanger, etc... I'm fine with the little amount of pedals I'm using up front but I've been kinda thinking about going with maybe another rack unit of some sort so I can have more versatility. I used to have a Rocktron Xpression when I had my RM100 but I hated that it was a tweaking nightmare. I just want something fairly easy to program in that works well with the 6505 for the loop effects. Line 6, Korg, Digitech, Boss.....open to any ideas?
Haven't heard of 'em? If you're a fan of metal, I suggest you check them out. Dax Riggs is one of my favorite vocalists EVER. My favorites are 'The Blue' and 'Tranquilized,' which can both be found on this album:

Hey guys, im lookin for an amp sound with gain on the more modern side of the spectrum. I own a DSL JCM2000, awesome amp, but I have to use a lot to really push gain out of it (MXR 6 band, and a PQ3) and I have to play it really damn loud to make it sound its best.
But Ive noticed some cons on my DSL, its not very tight, sorta flabby sounding, maybe its just the cab I have, unsure (I did have to do some soldering work on the inputs of the cab, it was really abused) -- 1960A btw.
Im lookin into Peavey's line of 6505's and 5150's and such.. not really kranks or ENGL's stuff.. too pricey for a college student.
Im not sure if I can break myself to sell the Marshall either, clean is just too damn sexy.
Any suggestions on how I may really tighten up my sound? The MXR is worth its weight in gold, HUGE improvement.. maybe im not using the PQ3 to its full potential. any suggestions are apprectiated

they made a couple songs for TNA Wrestling recently.

String Size, and Best Strings to Get?
Alright this may sound nooby or whatever, but I am a beginner anyways. I bought my dean 4 months ago and I was wondering, what is the gauge of the stings they give with the guitar usually? My friend had a look, and he says they are 9 or 10 but he wasn't sure. So I want to find out exactly what they are so I can go get the same gauge.
Also I was always wondering what are some good strings to buy for metal, and rock mainly. My friend told me to grab some DR's, and I hear they are pretty good so just wondering what you guys think.
Thanks.
impressive ministry show last night!!!I was really surprized to see tommy victor from prong there playing guitar for al the bass player from static x and im not sure but the other guitarist !!sure was a dead ringer for vinnie vincent but i cant confirm that!!anyways it was a killer show the singer from fear factory also sang some songs!!I was impressed how tight the band was and they sounded hudge!!i would definetly go see them again!!oh yeah meshuggah was bad ass to!!

i can do what the guys that come up with their guitars do.
"okay, guys, i've got it! Reverse LESpaul, and double NON-cutaway, les paul"
Showing my age but how many members here listen to them and why?
My favorite lp by them is Warrior On the Edge of Time followed closely by the Chronicle of the Black Sword
Why do I still listen to Hawkwind avidly?
Answer: The structure of the music and the atmosphere it generates. There is something mystical about progressive/psyche rock that makes me close the immediate world out, this is something lacking in other most forms of music. You actually get into the vibe of the music. Trust me, I am metal to the core but most metal I listen to only for the guitar, not the music.
Give old King Crimson a listen or Polestar1 (good luck finding their only lp!)
Incidently, for those who don't know, Lemmy (Motorhead) was their bass player for most of their releases so that says something right there
Good pickup recommendations for an Alder body guitar?
Im thinking of changing the bridge pickup in my Washburn 333, but im not sure what to replace it with. I would put in a BL l500xl or a Dimebucker (as thats what I have in my other guitars) but ive heard these particular pickups dont go well with Alder body guitars, as they sound too harsh. So I need some help choosing something else, I need a pickup thats good for stuff like Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, Sepultura, Pantera, basically good for Standard tuning as this is what tuning im going to keep this guitar in. I want a nice heavy chunky tone that doesnt sound too harsh or muddy (the current stock washburn pickup has too much bass and sounds a bit tacky imo)
Line6 SpiderValveHD update. WTF?
by goop on Thu Apr 10, 2008 12:37 pm
Ok, it's not good but I have a few things to check before my final review. Let me start by saying that my main reason for this purchase was volume. I like my SpiderIIIHD150 but it needed a little more headroom. The 150 on the SpiderIII is misleading. If it would only go a bit louder I'd be happy.
Well my initial impression at home was good. At very low volume it sounded the same as the III but as you raise the volume you could hear the tubes come into play. So yeserday was the first time playing at gig/rehearsal volume and I'm confused to say the least.
I'm running it through a V30 cab at 8ohms and it seemed to be lower in volume than the III? WTF! A 100W tube head and I can't be heard? Well I have a few things to check before drawing my conclusion:
Reset the amp
Calibrate floorboard
Check Tubes
Check cabinet for bad jack/wiring
Check speaker cable
I hope it's one of those. I will say at a volume of say 3-4 ( loud but not loud enough with the whole band ) it did sound very good. The tube element was there and the tone was very good also.
I forgot to mention that the master volume was at about 6-7 on a scale of 1-10. That should be enough to make people's ears bleed or die.
Any suggestions???
dfh dimeslime
by Curt on Thu Apr 10, 2008 12:55 pm
Is the dfh dimeslime a limited run?
Oh god, I sound terrible! Help me!
So I've been playing for a couple months now. Obviously I don't sound amazing even at the best of times. I was over at a friend's the other night getting some lessons on rocking the %$#@! out from him. One of the things he did was crank my tone pot all the way open, which sounded great when he played.
Unfortunately, I just sound sloppy. I was working on the solo for Judas Priest - The Ripper last night and I was getting bad screeches and harmonics, you could hear every time the pick hit the string, etc. While playing the intro riff to Anthrax - Madhouse you could hear noise from the strings every time I lifted my fingers to slide down to the next fret on the bit going from 7th fret to 6th to 5th etc.
Help me not be the William Hung of metal! Any tips as to what I might need to change? Things I should try to watch myself for and make sure I'm not doing? Obviously I will also get together with my friend again soon and have him watch what I'm doing if I don't clean up the sound soon.

What do you all think? I have them on all my guitars, but I rarely have found myself using them. Only use I've had has been on my Washburn with the Dimebucker as a means to keep the Dimebucker in check without having to change my amp's EQ. I was thinking about going without one for my new guitar, but I'm still undecided. Opinions?
which is better 4,8 or 16ohms???
by goop on Thu Apr 10, 2008 6:01 pm
which is better 4,8 or 16ohms when connecting a head to cabinet ? Is one louder than the other??
I can choose between a 4 ohm load and an 8 ohm load right now.
Fingers are dead...
by _Jon on Thu Apr 10, 2008 7:50 pm
So I've been playing for like 4 days straight basically, I'm on spring break, so I'm adding like 5 hours onto the 7-8 hours (with the exception of some days I go out with friends) I play on normal school days and my fingers are just worn out like never before, I can barely play anything today and I'm wondering if it's ok to wear your fingers down like this.
Will it make me limp hand or turn me into a Batio??

Greatest Guitar Riffs Of All Time
LONDON (Reuters) - Deep Purple's 1973 hit "Smoke on the Water" is the greatest guitar riff of all time, according to a poll by a London music school that has taught members of top bands like Radiohead, The Kinks and The Cure.
The majority of the 25 songs selected by current students of the London Tech Music School, were recorded in the 1960s, 70s and 80s. Only seven were recorded in the last 20 years.
"It was the iconic era for the electric guitar." head of the school's Guitar and Bass section John Wheatcroft told Reuters.
"A lot of our students started listening to their parents records and discovered these bands through them."
The most recent song selected was "7 Nation Army" recorded by American rock duo The White Stripes in 2003.
But Wheatcroft does not believe this spells the end of modern music.
"The great riffs can simply be the ones that withstood the test of time." he said. "It might just be a question of waiting till the dust settles and in 10 years time it could be completely different."
A list of the top songs chosen follows:
1. Smoke On The Water - Deep Purple (1973)
2. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana (1991)
3. Walk This Way - Aerosmith (1975)
4. Purple Haze - Jimi Hendrix (1967)
5. Sweet Child O Mine - Guns N' Roses (1987)
6. Paradise City - Guns N' Roses (1987)
7. Ace Of Spades - Motorhead (1980)
8. Enter Sandman - Metallica (1991)
9. Under The Bridge - Red Hot Chilli Peppers (1992)
10. Welcome To The Jungle - Guns N' Roses (1987)
11. Run To The Hills - Iron Maiden (1982)
12. Walk - Pantera (1992)
13. Johnny Be Goode - Chuck Berry (1958)
14. Back In Black - AC/DC (1980)
15. Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin (1970)
16. Wake Up - Rage Against The Machine (1992)
17. Highway to Hell - AC/DC (1979)
18. My Generation - The Who (1965)
19. 7 Nation Army - The White Stripes (2003)
20. Born To Be Wild - Steppenwolf (1968)
21. Give It Away - Red Hot Chilli Peppers (1991)
22. Paranoid - Black Sabbath (1970)
23. Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) - Jimi Hendrix (1967)
24. Eye Of The Tiger - Survivor (1982)
25. Money For Nothing - Dire Straits (1984)

is this a good deal?
by Vince on Fri Apr 11, 2008 12:47 am
well, at least what it comes with..
i just checked out this pawn shop by my house for the first time. so anyways, heres the details.
Brand - Jay Turser
Body style - Strat copy (it's a little bit smaller than a regular size guitar)
Color - Trans black wood grain (actually looks really nice)
Pickups - Seymour Duncan single coil hot rails (bridge position)
-Alcino II (middle and neck position)
Bridge - Kahler (chrome, minus tremolo bar)
---$125---
but i could probably bring em down to $110 or so.
and the other two in the middle and neck positions look like this..
like i said, it's a little smaller than a regular size guitar, but what i'm interested in is the pickups and the Kahler.
price: $125
is it a good deal to buy it considering it has the good bridge and pickups?
i thought it would be best to come here and ask before i pulled the money out. you guy's are good with this stuff so...

I made myself a body for that fretless Westone neck I have
by Blazer on Fri Apr 11, 2008 3:59 pm
And despite the fact that that Westone neck doesn't have a Fender-like headstock, it doesn't look out of place at all.
The body is five pieces of Pine and I'll be finishing it in translucent red.
and let's be honest it looks a LOT better than what I innitially had in mind.
Soltero vs Caddy The live battle
Having just done a brutal (big hot stage lights) 2 ½ hour gig on the Soltero and Caddy, I really noticed the differences between the two guitars.
As much as I love the Soltero (my favorite guitar) the Caddy won out in some areas.
Comfort
Easy win by the Soltero. The Soltero is lighter and better balanced. In fact, its the best balanced guitar Ive ever played. The balance makes the Soltero feel much lighter then it actually is.
Looks
The Caddy wins. The Soltero is a beautiful guitar, but in a live setting with flashing lights and smoke the more distinguishable shape of the Caddy makes it a better looking live guitar (at least for metal).
Sustain
The Caddy is the winner. The Soltero sustains a long time, but it cant beat that massive heavy wood of the Caddy.
Cut Through the Mix
The Soltero wins here. The Soltero has more upper mid to the sound. That definitely helped cut through the mush and mud of a live mix. The Caddy sounded great, but not quite as midrange.
Playability
This was a close one, but give the win to the Soltero. My natural hand placement fits perfectly with a Soltero. I just strap on the guitar and everything was in perfect position.

Yeah, I used to be TERRIBLE at writing my own songs, but I've been working on it for a while, getting to grips with a few different styles and whatnot and it's really really helped, I'm starting to feel confident with composing my own scores and songs
Also, I just recently got Cubase, so as soon as I figure out how to work it right, I'll get a lot of stuff recorded for you guys and post it here, because I've never posted anything before

Trace Elliot Velocette Amp.
I was at a jam last night and someone brings in this little tiny amp dressed in a Scottish Tartan cloth. It was tiny, the size of a large briefcase. The contols were on the back, so it really just looked like a small speaker cab. I thought it was some home made thing. With that goofy plaid tartan cloth, it looked like a joke to me. Then we plugged it in ... holly cow! It sounded amazing. It turns out to be a Trace Elliot Velocette 1x10 amp. We were playing directly into it with a P90 equipped guitar. The vintage overdrive coming out of this little thing was amazing. Awesome tone. Shocking really. Really loud too! 2 EL84 tubes, one volume, one tone, one bright switch. One Vintage 10 Celesion. Really great sounding amp. Really small. Hand wired in the UK. The tartan cloth was original from the factory. Apparently they sell for Dirty Cheap on the internet... under $400 it seems... when you can find one. Anyone know anything about these amps? Anyone have one?

I was at my buddy's place today and jammed in his garage. After a while of just playing we were like: "Dude! We should totally get something so we can record the sh it were playin'! Would be so much easier to put something together! Totally!"
You see, we have a tendency to forget most of what we come up with.
Is it possible to put a mic in the middle of the room and record drums, guitars and what not and get a decent recording? What would I need other than the mic?
Thanks in advance,
Philip
Canadians and Custom fees
by Pete on Sat Apr 12, 2008 6:39 pm
I was wondering, what's the average on a 4000 USD guitar ?
A guy from UPS told me once i could go the the airport here in Montreal and do it myself and it wouldn't cost a buck but just waste time.
Also, i heard the if the sender sends it as a gift, the fees go down a bit?
And please no "ehhh i think it's alot i shipped a pair of shoes once" replies.
Blacked Out my TC Caddy... Half Way...
I recently acquired this 2002 USA TC Caddy from the original Time Capsule run when Dean Z came back. This one is #36 of 50. I have never been a fan of the black and gold theme. So even when I was in the planning stages of buying this guitar, I was already plotting my revolt against the gold hardware.
My first step was to change the gold knobs to black. I put black speed knobs on there for now, but I will order some custom black billet knobs when I have a chance.
The second step was to change the pickups from Gold Covered to Double Black. I was going to change the pickups, but when I got this guitar, I fell in love with the sound. I had read a post where Devnor removed the Gold pickup covers from his Caddy. So I contacted Devnor and he told me how to do it. Thanks a bunch man!
My big question is do I leave the Gold bridge and tuners? Or do I finish the full black out? At this point I like the way this looks, and will wait on the rest. I think the little bits of gold left add a touch of class to an already classy guitar. What do you guys think?

"They had 2 colors, i didn't know which one you wanted, so... I bought both."
I told him that I couldn't afford 2 right now and he told me Happy birthday lol
My birthday was in March!
It was a nice thought though
But long story short I kinda got 2 Vendetta XMs for 69.00 bucks

having some emg wiring issues
hey guys i have some emgs i am installing and i am having some issues . there is a very bad buzzing and when i touch the face of the pickup the sound cuts out. At first i was a little confused over how to wire up the stereo jack and that could be a contributing issue to why they are buzzing but i can't figure out how they go even after looking over the diagrams and trying different combinations of wiring.
I have installed emgs before , and i had a little touble previously but nothing this bad.
If anyone can offer advise on how to wire the stereo jack , or can post a better wiring diagram i'd much apperciate it.

Refurnishing A Guitar For Under 10$ with pron
by Douce on Sun Apr 13, 2008 8:22 pm
Alrighty then, so for awhile now, i've been entertaining the idea of playing around with my Epiphone Special, by doing a green tape design Dan Jacobs from Atreyu has on one of his ESPs. Anywho, on Friday, I said what the hell, and did a rough try with just painters tape, to see how it'd look, and in all honesty, I thought it was pretty sweet.
Anywho though, since I couldn't exactly keep painters tape on my guitar, since it'd probably seal within a few days, and rip my finish to shreds if I tried taking it off, and since it isn't vinyl based or anything of the like, it would look shitty after a few weeks of getting touched by fingers. So I took it off, and tried to redo it with green electrical tape, but it looked crappy to me, so I figured, why not try a pin stripe look, since the electrical tape packs I got came with 5 different colors, one being white.
So anywho, I did the front first:
After that, today I bought more tape, and did the back and sides:
I still have to touch up the sides a tiny bit, but everyone who's seen it, thinks its a brand new guitar, with a custom finish, till they actually hold it. I fooled a professional painter, into thinking I got a brand new guitar, into he saw the sides which are a bit messy still.
Some pics infront of my DimeShine :
Sure, its electrical tape, but I have to say, it looks bitchin, if you ask me. It's one hell of a turn out, considering it cost be about 10 dollars, in total. I'm thinking of doing somethign to the headstock, but we'll see.

Cheep Hardtail at Guitar Center
I went to my local guitar center today, and on the used rack i saw a set neck hardtail. I was like WHOA! It felt nice, no serious damage done to it. The top was sparkling gold. So nice.
So then i look at the price tag...
$250!
And there wasnt even much harm to the guitar.
How much do these sell new?
If any of you south jerseyans wanted to buy it, it was at the guitar center in Cherry Hill.
How do you set up your amps? Do you use an eq in the loop or anything? I was noticing that my tone is tighter and closer to what I hear on recordings with an eq in the loop. Granted I'm not playing at high volumes at the moment. Maybe I won't need it when I can get more volume.
ugliest guitars that you love for some reason...
well, i'm sure you've had this happen to you several times before. you go to a guitar store and start looking around. you come across this really weird and unique(in either a good or bad way) looking guitar. you seem to hate it coz its different, but you seem to like it coz its different. weather its a pink guitar, a guitar that uses glass for fret board, a guitar whos body is just odd, etc etc etc....
so, lets see/hear about em

guitar photoshoot - input needed

My wife is going to be doing a photoshoot this summer using my guitars as props. I need some input on what guitar players would like to see.
There will be hot chicks in the pics anywhere from clothed to nude. If there are any women on the forum, or someones wife/girlfriend has an idea, your input would be appreciated as well. She'll be doing some pics with guys too.
The guitars will be ML & MLFs, Explorer, Jackson Dinky, a couple Warlocks, & an Assassin, and maybe a few I can borrow from friends.
Pics or just a description would be greatly appreciated. And for your input pics will be posted. This is a month or two away still and models still have to be picked.

"We're puttin' the ba-a-a-nd back together!"
After 7 years, I am finally going to play live again! The bass player and drummer at church are two awesome players and they are both eager to get something going. I am recruiting my best bud, Jimmy, to play keys and Shane, the guitarist/vocalist from my last classic rock band. Shane has the range to do Journey, AC/DC and the like. These guys are all excellent players. It will be one of those bands where somebody names a tune and everybody just takes off! I am pumped! I really needed something to keep me busy!
My string quest is finished
Last summer I started trying every brand of string I could find. I actually didn't notice a huge difference between brands. But there were some differences.
I ended up liking GHS strings. My initial impression of them was so-so, but upon trying them again I liked them. I used them for the festival in Germany and they held up and sounded excellent.

Ribbon Wound strings (ie. Flat wound)
by Vince on Mon Apr 14, 2008 10:43 pm
i bought a set of D'Addario Ribbon Wound "Chromes" the other day, thinking that "ribbon wound" meant that they had the red or black twine around the tuning peg end of the strings like on my GHS Bass Boomers.
also knowing that they were the "chromes" set, i figured i'd at least have a nice polished string to catch more attention on the fretboard.
anyways...
if that made any sense, then read on...
well i open the package and look at the strings...turns out they are actually ribbon wound, being that they are the same type of strings used on fretless basses. but i never knew they were called ribbon wound.
anyways, i'm gonna put them on after i put install my new set of Blackouts.
anyone played ribbon wound on an electric guitar??
any thoughts on how they will sound with high gain metal?
CMT Country Music Awards .......

Tonight at 8pm EST CMT cable channel. Should be some serious guitar picking going on. Like it or not you might learn something.
Been working on my Dean lately with my friend Jack we going to repaint it red with black bevels like the USA ones. I didn't have had the money to get the USA one so we been redoing mine to my specs of how I wanted it. I took off Dime and Razorback on the headstock, I am very pleased so far how it has been coming so tell me what you think. My friend Jack has been repainting it for me and he said that preping is the most hard work of it. I did all the crap work though like sanding and stuff. So enjoy.

String Question
by xero_uk on Tue Apr 15, 2008 9:51 am
OK heres the Deal. Since I started playing 5 Years ago I have always used EB Super Slinky (Pinks).
I've recently been looking around and discovered GHS seem to be very popular, and I fancy giving them a try. My question is how easy would it be to swap from EB Slinkys (9-11-16-24w-32-42) to the GHS Boomers (9-11-16-24-32-42).
I know they are the same gauge and everything but just wanted to check before I take the plunge. I'm not UBER floyd literate and I would be testing them on my Jackson (as it is my main axe atm).
Also what does the "w" (24w) mean and does it make a diffrence?
Thanks guys!

I've been looking at GFS pick-ups for quite sometime and would like some input to weither they are actually good or great or just decent.
Somebody wants me in thier band
So I was doing the usual thing at Guitar Center today. Checking out the Valvekings as I'll be a new owner soon, testing the Razorbacks and a nice BC Rich V.
After about an hour or so I'm jamming on the 6505+ with a slime BB Razorback and this dude picks up a Shadow ML. I tell him its a great guitar, nice and heavy.
So after the small talk he asks if I'm in a band. I tell him no, I'm not that great and I just got to the area. He asks if I'm interested in a spot with paying gigs as a bassist.
Whoa, what? The dude says they play classic rock type stuff, Zep and old school stuff with some Pantera mixed in. So it's basicly a cover band. Sounds cool and all but I have no bass!
Anyway it's cool that people come up to me and dig my playing but I just don't know if I want to join a band or anything.
I don't know where I was going, just letting everyone know I guess. Either way, it's nice to be back home in TX!

You guys know I'm one of the worst gear whores around, especially when it comes to Fender Strats. I've owned probably 20. I've got one now that I really like, standard MIM with 3 singles, love it to death but as usual I'm always looking for something else. I always think I want a fat strat or a dual hummer strat and it just hit me, USE THE DAMN THING LIKE LEO FENDER INTENDED IT TO BE USED! The Stratocaster is the Model T of guitars, meaning production line assembly and interchangeable parts. So what I'm doing is building 3 different loaded pickguards so when the bug hits me for a new guitar I'll take 30 minutes to change pickguards, restring, and voila! New guitar! Dang I be smart!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWJH6qXYna8
there we go.
btw i know im not that good, especially with tube amps because i mostly played solid state and thats my favorite. and it also cuts into a part of holy wars, sorry about that i need to learn more songs good for tube amps.
settings in this vid are: Bass 3 oclock, Mids 9 oclock, and the Treble is cranked.
I too jumped on the band wagon. OMG it is fuggin' amazing. The tones are awesome. I am running it into the return on my Rev Jr and Peavey 4X12 right now with the cabinet models turn off. I will try it through our PA with the cab models on later this weekend. This is by FAR the best multi effects board I have tried yet. The JCM 800 model with the poweramp cranked all the way and a tubescreamer pedal in front is a MONSTER chunk machine. The modulation and time base effects are very transparent and useable. Once you learn the proper way to set this up, it is such a great tool. There are a few different output sources which greatly effect how the end tone is delivered. There is the standard line level for recording. There is a line level with a 3 band global eq so you can run to a PA without an amp and eq your entire unit to the room so you don't have to change your programs. There are also 3 different amp settings. One for use with the front of a amp another for the front of a stack and yet another for the return on a poweramp.
New Gear Day - Digitech RP350
Ok, so this is my first ever pedalboard / wah bar / anything. I decided to get the RP350 cause its a little bit of everything.
I know some people really dont like the tone of it, and neither did I at the beginning, but i found my way around, and how to controll it. I got a nice chunchy metal tone.
On to the other things, this thing is packed with tones and gizmos and such. Has a bunch of distortion pedal presets, (which, yes, are a bit digital sounding, but im fine with it) and theyre pretty good. It also has a shitload of effects that i DIG. Theres this one that i never even heard of called a YaYa that makes my guitar sound like its actually talking and saying "yaah yaah yaah" The pitch function puts in a second harmony to whatever you play, i really enjoyed that one. Theres a whole lot of flager models from boss to MXR, the delays are really fun to mess around with too.
One of my favorite parts is the Whammy / Wah. This thing is so much fun. Not only does it do the standard Wah function, but also works just like the digitech whammy. It has an octaver and everything. Its almost exactly like the Digitech whammy.
All in all, i think 200 bucks was a good price for what i got. Sure it could be better, sure the tones could be a bit less digital, but it works for me.
Heres a crap-for-crap picture. Sorry :]
Does anyone know the name of the first song in this video?
CURIOUS ***SHRED DURST THREAD***
WELCOME TO THE FORUM BTW.
I AM JUST CURIOUS. WHAT BRINGS SHRED DURST TO THE DEAN FORUM? NOT THAT I MIND YOU BEING HERE. NOR DOES IT MATTER IF I DIDNT. BUT I LIKE YOU BEING HERE . SPECIALLY IF YOU ARE OPEN TO BEING BOMBARDED WITH QUESTIONS. I COULD USE SOME TIPS AND HELP PLAYING. ANYWAYS, YOU DONT PLAY DEAN GUITARS. NOT THAT , THAT IT IS A REQUIREMENT TO BE HERE. BUT WHAT BRINGS YOU HERE? HOW MANY FORUMS DO YOU HANG OUT AT? IS DOUG GETTING A DEAN ENDORSEMENT AND GOING TO PLAY THE RUSTY COOLEY GUITAR?
A few months back I had to sell my Cadillac Select and ever since I've regretted it. Well I'm gassing for another Dean so bad that I can hardly stand it, I've decided not to buy another Caddy but I'm leaning toward a Dean V. I really don't know what brought me to the decision but lately I've been checking them out and they just draw me to them. I can't afford a USA model so what other model would be good? Also who else has a V and what are your pros & cons? I miss having a Dean, I've been playing for over 30 years and I have never felt this way about a brand of guitar.

Cadillac with a unique headstock
I bought my first Dean the other day off ebay. It is a cool looking Cadillac. However, it has a unique looking headstock instead of the traditional "V". Does anyone have any info on this axe? I would love to add the image but don't see how to do it.

Dean ML XM refinish idea
by Dirt on Thu Apr 17, 2008 3:42 pm
I just got a black ML XM (no clearcoat) and would like to enhance the look of the body with some lightning bolts (white paint) and clear coat. I've never done this before so I realize I probably haven't thought of all the aspects of this.
After I get the neck off and hardware off, my idea is to 'erase' the black paint where I want the lightning bolts by sanding thin streaks in the lightning shape, then tape off where I want the black to stay and spray white on with a can.
After that's done and dry I'd like to clearcoat it. I don't know what to use for clearcoating but will research the site and the net.
Anyone ever try something like this? Wondering if my plan could work. Any input welcome.
Thanks
What is the deal with drummers?
Our current drummer can only jam once a week. Getting him to confirm a gig date is like pulling teeth. He needs like 2 weeks in advance. We can't have that.
Another drummer we wanted to audition (who happens to be a great extreme metal drummer - I've heard his demos) has ditched us twice for auditions.
We tried out another drummer 2 weeks ago & he completely sucked balls. If I would've got on that drum set instead of guitar, I would've smoked him. He couldn't even hold a beat - after we gave him 2 weeks to learn songs from a demo CD!
We're trying a 25 year old female drummer next week. We'll see what happens........
UGH!!!!!
Any of you guys have the same issues with drummers? Let's hear 'em!
EDIT: I just realized I may have posted in the wrong section - my bad!

Anyone have any negative remarks before i dive???
My grandmother called me and said I had a package at her house with some weird writing on it... So I went over there in fear of it being anthrax. I opened it anyways knowing I could probably just pawn it off to some of the kids in the neighborhood as coke or heroin or something if it did turn out to be anthrax.
Anyways, I get there and it dawned on me! Goc sent me a CD!
I popped it in my car and I've almost got through the first spin. I have to hand it to the guys in Skaut! Everyone in that band is TIGHT. They work together very well and Goc, you can tell, is very influenced by a lot of things. His guitar playing is all over the genre spectrum and very tasteful, not to mention the rhythm section, they're tight and sound amazing. And despite not knowing what the singer is saying, he's very soulful and doesn't over do it. Very great CD. I'm very impressed. I wish you guys the best of luck, because these are some killer tunes that need to be heard by a lot of people.
Thanks again, bud!
Help needed! Gibson/Epi Flying V pickguard tracing!

Hi everyone!
I just recently acquired this from fleabay:
It's going to be a little project for the approaching summer days.
The thing is, I need a pickguard for it with only 3 control holes (1vol +1 toggle switch and the jack). The pickguards on ebay all have 5 holes, and they are quite on the expensive side to buy just to trace them out and then have no use for it...
I need a tracing or a xerox copy of one (even if it has the 5 holes) so I can customize it and have one custom made exactly like I want it.
Can some one please help me out?
Can I get someone who has a flying v pickguard to xerox me a copy (100% size) and have it mailed to me? I will pay for shipping cost to Portugal by using Paypal.
Thank you all!

In Flames tone from Peavey Triple XXX?
Ive been trying to dial in a good In Flames sort of tone with my Peavey Triple XXX but so far I havent had much luck. I can get a very good Killswitch Engage/Metalcore type tone, but im really after an In Flames tone. Can anyone who has this amp maybe help me out with some setting suggestions I could try out? Im aiming for a sort of Clayman/Whoracle tone.
What brand Acoustic would be my best bet as far as tone and playability is involved for a guitar between $200-300 Does not have to be a major guitar brand... how are the oens at www.randomusic.com ?? I know agile electrics are amazing deals for the price.

Ok so I was cleaning out a closet in my house and found a box of older guitar mags. Some great stuff in these: lessons, interviews so gear set ups, cool old gear ads-
Anyways my questions is, would you guys be interested in me scanning some of these cool reads to post and share here on the forum, Some of these mags date back to the early 90's (so not really old) but I was thinking maybe some of you guys might be up for some older reading, and some cool lessons and what not.
Just wondering

Guitar Rig 3 - Native Instruments
Has anyone else here tried this?!?
All I have to say is that, this is very cool. I plugged a Dean Vendetta into it at my buddies store, and I was building guitar rigs with a "drag & drop" menu. Choose from pedals, rack gear, heads, cabs, mics, and just drag them into any chain sequence, dial them in like a normal piece of gear, and play. The sounds are very honest, I was seriously impressed.
Choose your fav artist from a drop menu, old Metallica, new Metallica, SRV, Dimebag..., whatever. Click & play that sound. Then the right side of the screen shows you how the sound was achieved and then you can tweak it to your needs.
You assign whatever you want to the pedal (8 switches + perameter, 2 more perams can be added), and then you can control everything. "Live" mode displays your gear really big, so you can adjust your gain, eq, whatever easily..., dunno if I'd gig with it. But really cool for the studio + wasting time in the basement.
Here's a tutorial (English sub-titles):

Try it if you have the chance. Dweezil Zappa is the spokesperson for this..., plus it's won like 40 awards since Guitar Rig 2 came out.

by rridner on Sun Apr 20, 2008 12:53 am
got this for free from my future father-in-law. its an old USA Silvertone acoustic. it's pretty beat up, but doesn't sound half bad. It works cos I needed an acoustic just for the hell of it, but didn't want to spend much. Can't beat a free guitar! Onto the PRON
Today at Sam Ash I was playing a Dean 79 Z through a Randall RG200G3...And I'm seriously thinking this might be my next amp.
It sounded awesome, but anyone have any advice or experience with this model?
Also, I discovered the only guitars I could grab off the rack that didn't sound horrible were the Deans, and ONE ESP. The Jeff Hanneman Sig with the Kahler, but even that one's action was way too high. I LOVE DEANS!
Just got back from seeing Megadeth
by Bullet on Sun Apr 20, 2008 4:03 am
. I must say they are frippin awesome live. Though Chris was having guitar issues during Wake Up Dead, and Sleepwalker and didn't hardly in either of them. Also during Children of Bodom's set the barricade, broke through, and they stop the concert for about 45 minutes to repair it. I didn't much care for In Flames, or Job for Cowboy. I like Bodom, Megadeth, and High on Fire's sets. It was pretty frippin awesome.
Hopefully next month I'll be buying another Dean since I had to sell my Cadillac due to medical bills. This time I want something different and I've been eyeing the Dean 79 V and the ML also.
Which one do you like?

practice amp that really surprised me!
by rridner on Sun Apr 20, 2008 1:32 pm
this amp is pretty sweet. it sounds much more powerful than 15 watts. I'm sure that is due to the two 10" speakers. A bit pricey for a practice amp, but it does really sound impressive. I was shocked.
I have found the best way to hear these amps is to go to youtube and type in bugera and you won't be disappointed.
Help me decide... Leslie West knobs
The knobs on the LW are a love/hate preference IMHO... it's the only option on the guiltar that bugs me. Plus, they're just plain awkward.
So.... I've opted for a switch to standard amber speed knobs, without numbers.
What say you.... 86 the LW "11" knobs?
In a weird way, it's one defines the guitar... but I think they're just plain homely

I was in Spanish class doodling and I had an idea for a limited run. A white stealth with two blue stripes down the middle.
I was wondering if anyone could do a photoshop of it, here's what I was thinking it would look like;
My skill is amazing, I know
The Story :: Dean Muddy Bullseye ST
Many of us are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the first Splittails to grace our local music stores, and only those lucky enough to grab ahold of a USA model are weilding these bad boys. Again, many of us know that Zakk Wylde had a ST made for him BY Dean...(and is, for some reason, weilding a Gibson in the same shape)...but what was the story behind this one?
Will it, or something similar (say the muddiness minus the bullseye) ever go on sale?
Discuss?

I've noticed majority of guitarists always flock to Ebony fingerboards ... I personally am Partial to maple and Im cool with Rosewood ... I put ebony on the back burner most of the time
Whats your thoughts?
and if you're an Ebony person, elaborate a little as to why
Alot of people will say they like the blackness but thats usually dye and not the natural color, Ebonys usually has brown streaks and I find it much more attractive than the complete black dye
Some people will actually say they hate rosewood. ... weird I know
GO!
My new "Go Habs Go" song...,
Hey guys,
Hopefully this little ditty will get some local airplay, I wrote a short (67 secs) anthem for my beloved hockey team, The Montreal Canadiens. Hopefully this'll pump them up for Game 7 tomorrow night against the Boston Bruins:

I'm not around much so can someone tell me if this is a limited run in the works?
Or one being considered?
The picture file is named Iommisplittailproject so....?
The sound quality isn't the greatest. I am using my Cannon Powershot SD1000 ELF so I don't know if the actual guitar sound translated as well as I would have liked. This one was just off the cuff so please don't take it too seriously LOL Anyway without further wait, here are your Krank Rev Jr vids.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tNfwrfre8g
I am going to probably do a full review of the Krank on a seperate video later when I have more time.
I have been through four solid state amps in the last 2 years and i cannot get the sound out of them that i want. I think i'm ready to dive into the world of tube heads. I just put my rig up on Craiglist for sale or trade for a tube rig. Looking for Marshall, ENGL (i've heard good things about them), Peavey, or Krank( which is probably way out of my price range), but do you guys have any other suggestions. I think i'll just put and overdrive in front of the amp and maybe be happy with the sound. I just dont like the digital sound. Time to try something different.
Use the black Jim Dunlop Jazz 3 picks..I prefer the small ones, but they have the jazz 3 in normal size with that nice sharp point on it..
They kill, they don't bend for sh*t, and they make you be accurate.
And look for any and all youtube posts of PG and his alternate picking/right hand technique. His right hand is, in my book, the best.
Ok guys...
im from wisconsin and i just realized something...
wisconsin is the place of death lol
i mean really...
we have had 2 of the biggest serial killers in the country
we killed otis redding

An Epiphone 57 reissue Les Paul Junior. And it wasn't the way you see it in this picture when I bought it. Because it needed a little TLC to make it work.
Here's the way it was when I just got it home, if you look closely you'll see that the pickup wasn't in line with the position of the strings on the bridge, and I needed to widen the pickup cavity to rectify that, another problem was that the pickup hummed like crazy, signalling a faulty groundwire, so I fixed that up too. I also replaced the flimsy pickup cover with a sturdier one and added more foam under the pickup to get it higher, closer to the strings. And to top it all off I replaced the flimsy wrap around tail with a genuine Gibson tailpiece, you wouldn't believe how much difference switching the bridge made. Now what I need to do is pull out those rubbery Grover tuners and replace them with proper white butten Klusons.
Mind you that I was tempted to go crazy and replace that P100 pickup with a Dimarzio humbucker and put on a Kahler tremolo and lock nut, now I'm just glad that I didn't.
The Sword - Gods of the Earth
Well, while I am waiting for my vinyl version to arrive, I bought the CD
1st impression was WOW, major kick a$$. First track is an instrumental called The Sundering, very heavy. The other tracks that really stand out are How Heavy this Axe (not about a Les Paul ) The Black River and also The White Sea
Overall this is a lp you will want to listen to over and over. Not a whole lot of soloing but the rhythms are crushing and the classical guitar work is also pretty decent
As with their other releases, this really reminds me of Black Sabbath, especially the Never Say Die album only bonecrushing harder
BUY IT
Best rack noise supressor on the market?
I just bought a Furman 8-Mx, works good for now, But im gonna build a small rig with a Korg Rack tuner, And a noise supressor.
Whats a real good one out there that'll keep that feedback off?
Price is not an issue.
Also Any suggestions for certain racks?
Hey, does anyone know when the Dean MLK is going to be out in stores like guitar center and Sam Ash? I'd really love to try one. It's got pretty much all I want on it (a longer scale and OFR would be nice, but I can suffice) and I'm considering it for my next guitar.

SUGGESTION FOR DEAN GUITARS.... RAZORBACK/STEALTH HS/LOGO
USUALLY YOU SEE THESE SUGGESTION THREADS FOR THE COMPANY TURN INTO TOTAL CHAOS WITHIN A DAY SO TO MAKE IT VERY CLEAR, I AM TOTALLY HAPPY WITH DEAN GUITARS AND THIER PRODUCT AND PLAN ON BUYING MANY GUITARS FROM THEM IN THE FUTURE.
I JUST WANT TO MAKE A SLIGHT SUGGESTION AS TO THE LOOKS OF THE RAZORBACK/STEALTH HEADSTOCK. WELL MORE PARTICULARLY THE DEAN LOGO PLACEMENT.
I AM ONLY POSTING THIS AS I KNOW THAT THE MEN UPSTAIRS READ THIS, SOMETIMES ON A DAILY BASIS TO SEE WHAT OUR OPINIONS ARE ON THINGS.
YOU DONT HEAR MUCH ABOUT THE DEAN GUTARS LOGO AT ALL AS IT PROBABLY THE COOLEST LOGO OUT THERE. IT HAS WINGS, WHAT MORE CAN YOU ASK FOR?
THE LITTLE IMPERFECTION I SEE ON THE RAZORBACK/STEALTH HEADSTOCK WITH THE DEAN LOGO PLACEMENT IS THAT ITS NOT HUGGED UP TIGHTLY IN BETWEEN THE INNER POINTS. I SEE THAT ON THE FIRST VERSION OF THE EXPLOSION RAZORBACK THAT IT WAS DONE THIS WAY. THEN WHEN IT WAS UPDATED THE LOGO PLACEMENT CHANGED. NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT, THE EXPLOSION RB WAS THE ONLY GUITAR THAT LOOKED LIKE IT HAD BEEN DONE RIGHT. IT WAS NICELY BUTTED UP IN BETWEEN THE INNER POINTS.
NOW, ON EVERY OTHER RB HEADSTOCK THE DEAN LOGO ISNT PROPORTIONED TO THE SIZE OF THE HEADSTOCK. TO ME, IT LOOKS LIKE ITS TRYING TO BE STUFFED UP IN BETWEEN THE INNER POINTS BUT JUST WONT QUITE FIT. EVEN THE USA MODELS ARE LIKE THIS.
ANYWAYS, THATS WHAT I THINK. DEAN LOGO TIGHTLY BUTTED UP. ITS A BIT SMALLER BUT THERES NO DENYING THAT ITS LOOKS WAY SLEEKER AND MORE UNIFORM AND STILL IDENTIFIABLE.
I GUESS I CAN MAKE THIS INTO A POLL JUST TO SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE FEEL THE SAME WAY.
PLEASE GUYS KEEP THIS ON TOPIC AND MORE SPECIFICLY DONT ARGUE WITH SOMEONE ELSES OPINION. THAT MEANS YOU!
THIS?
OR THIS?
Need an acoustic recommendation..
Ok I have a friend who's in the market for an acoustic. Now as I haven't actively played an acoustic in eons, I'm nowhere near qualified to make any sound recommendations.
He's got an "absolute max" $1500 budget, but would ideally like to stay in the $1000 range if possible.
Thus far, best he's found locally is a Martin DCME, which he describes as "plays like butter and sounds great".
http://www.martinguitar.com/guitars/choosing/guitars.php?p=s&g=R&m=DCME
He has no particular brand affinity. His chief criteria are ease of play (i.e. the closer to an electric feel, the better), tone (vague, I know) and projection.
Likewise stuff like fancy inlays and looks only stuff don't matter either, as he'd rather the $$ go into tone and playability.
I'm sure there's gotta be some folks here with more acoustic experience and market knowledge.
So, based on that, what would you recommend?
Hollywood Z.....refin or not?

Should I try and repaint the black sections on this guitar? Other than being filthy I think it's in pretty good condition and should clean up very well. Structurally it's in excellent condition with very few nicks or dings but obviously there's a good wear mark in the lower black section. The neck pup has been replaced as well but I'm not able to ID it. I'll try and get a pic to see if any of you can. So, what do you think? Also, the last pic is of the sticker residue. Was that the Made in Japan sticker or a serial number?
Anybody else have this problem? I love the distorted channel of my VK but it is way too noisy to even use. even with a gate it's still the same. I end up using the clean channel with a distortion pedal. (much less noise)

Bel Aire sighting...kind of.
by * on Wed Apr 23, 2008 12:23 am
watched the 80s horror film "trick or treat" last night. It features Gene simmons, and ozzy osbourne( as a preacher. hilarious) and starring "skippy" from family ties.
anyway, this kid is a metal head, and his favorite guitarist (from his home town/high school) dies, and he gets ahold of his Last known recording and it is a personal message to him, BACK MASKED! scaryness ensues, etc etc.
anyway, The kid has drawings up on his locker door, and they appear to be hand drawn bel-aire shapes, one with a zebra like pattern.
this movie was pretty funny, they Mock the PMRC, the "filthy 15" (instead of %$#@! like a beast there is an album called "do it like a dog." haha), and the judas priest subliminal thing. one of those "so cheesy it's good" flicks.
I'm out of my rut!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So last night after having a few beers, i decided that it was time for me to sit down and learn a pantera solo. I've been playing for 12+ years and have never been able to learn one, except for the first half of the floods solo. So i decided to do Walk. Sat down with the book and pulled up some videos on youtube and started hammering it out. To my amazement, i had it in 15 minutes. Now i'm not very proficient and still have to glance at the book a few times, but i just couldn't believe how easily it came to me. Nothings ever came to me like that before in playing. So this morning, thinking that since i got that one down fairly easy, i dug out the old Dimebag Riffer Madness book and started with the 5 minutes alone solo, and sure enough, BAM, 20 minutes later, i pretty much had it. I'm feeling excited and amazed that i could do it. I'll put up some recordings when i feel that i'm proficient enough to share them em' with you guys.
anyone heard of The Miles Between?
they are soooo sick
my band just opened for them on saturday

Question about ML 7 string.
Is there a stock ML 7 string out there, or is this a special order type deal?
I think I want one REAL BAD.
ok i need to vent a little....
the next blues or screamo rock prick that says that to my face is getting forcefully, orally, fisted.
im am so sick and tired of those pricks saying anyone that plays with any speed whatsoever as having "no soul" or playing "without soul"
wtf are they looking for barry white?
i swear its like whenever any of those pricks see a solo that requires them to play notes faster than 100 bpm they think "eff that guy hes a douche for playing so fast and making me look bad. it has no soul"
god im just so sick and tired of these guys...
anyone else ever run into this?
thanks for venting space

That'd be cool
I'm going to buy a chorus pedal today. I want to get van halen type chorus and also use it to beef up my clean sound. I was thinking about the Boss Chorus Ensemble but seeing the tone controls on it kind of concern me. I really would like it to be kind of transparent as far as tone is concerned. I really like my tone as it is right now.

what do i have to do to play this song?

What Matters - Looks or Feel?
(note: I posted this in another thread but after posted thoughts were it may work as a topic)
I'll admit, I'm not the prettiest flower in the arrangement but over the years a fair amount of pretty sweet babes have graced me with their company. It wasn't the paint job, it was the way the motor ran that closed the deal.
Point: forget the looks, what matters is how an axe sounds. There are Fenders, Gibby's, about every reachable brand I'd gladly play for the tone regardless of the aesthetic shortcomings in my eyes.
Question: If you want to play a ML shaped guitar, and there was a Washy you found that just melted in your hands, would you say no and continue the search? Would you even consider a Fender that looks like it went through a house fire but just came to life when you picked it up? (shameless FZ plug)
I play Spector basses. Not that any other basses are or are not better, these babies make the sound I want from a bass guitar. Tone and playability, first and only concern. My '93 NS4 will always be go-too and the '02 NS5XL will always get plenty of play time. They look exactly the same, just like the '77 model that started it all. No big deal.
Let me simplify this: Remember the neighbor girl that was, eh, OK but you payed her no attention and then she turned out to be a sheer hottie and a nympho and won Powerball twice????
Uh, sorry, my mistake...but her mom was such a MILF.
i saw a dixie rebel today for the first time. i might get it. anyone have some info on it. didnt it come out in 06.

HELP.
Question about Mixing Speakers n Cabs !!!HELP!!!
So.. I've been looking at
http://warehousespeakers.com/products.php?cat=9&PHPSESSID=3a1f77254b0ead4dc6475548d7d52671
yay long url i know...
okay back on subject I've been looking at warehouse guitar speakers to fill an Avatar Cabinet I intend on Getting for my Orange Tiny Terror...
I'm Going for that kind of old school Black Sabbath type feel and tone here... Which cab would be the best for this head... 15watts Clean about 30 driven... could it push a 4x12? or should i keep it with a 2x12... open or closed back for that old school sabbath?
okay but i was thinking about mixing 4 Different speakers to get more texture to my tone... The Reaper(G12H30 Replacement), Green Beret(G12M Greenback), Veteran 30(Improved Vintage 30) and Retro 30(Brighter More Articulate Veteran 30)
They are all really similar so i thought mixing them with a 4x12 would yield good results? any feedback? Good or bad idea? and why? I know people like to mix the Vintage 30 with the g12h30 and these are all variations of the two... so could this work to get me a unique yet old school tone through my Orange Tiny Terror? Thanks in advance because im no expert on this and this forum is such a huge help... your all soo so helpful thanks alot!!!
special order options/configurator?
Wouldn't it be cool to go to a page on the website and pick and choose your dream Dean?
I mean kinda like car manf. websites that let you choose color, tires, trim etc.
be nice to see a flame or quilt in diff colors,
maple with reverse block inlay or go rosewood or ebony
pick you style headstock, trem or no trem, and hardware choice...
just dreaming.
I know there's some photoshop guru's here... but that's time consuming and tedious.

New found appreciation for some old abandoned gear
by flah on Thu Apr 24, 2008 7:14 pm
I have an Ernie Ball Music Man Eddie Van Halen and a Krank Revolution, that both have been neglected since I've purchased other gear (Dean TCV and ENGL Savage, among other things).
Recently I half heartedly decided to put my EVH up for sale, since the resale prices are pretty good right now and I've been gassing for other things (another cab for my P.A. and possibly the limited run Stealth). In order to promote sales for the guitar, I did a YouTube video of my EVH into an Ibanez TS-10 and into my Krank Revolution. And lo and behold, I loved that entire rig!! I used to think that the EVH's neck was too narrow from string to string, and that the neck was too fat and not flat enough. But now I can't get enough of the neck feel and my other guitars just don't feel right. So I took that guitar off of the market. And I'm taking the Krank off the market too because with the TS-10 boosting the front end, it sounds incredibly brown, a nice compliment to my ENGL for more (ahem) savage sounding stuff.
It's weird, I used to think the ultimate shred guitar had a thin neck, wide fingerboard and flat radius. Now everything I thought is just the opposite.
Oh yeah, and if you watch the video, don't expect me to be a Shred Durst or anything. I'm a sloppy guitar player. And there ain't no excuses for that. Heh heh.
Best passive pickup for modern metal?
I just tuned my Dean 79 ML to Drop A# and the tone im getting is horrid. I have a BLUSA L500XL in the bridge and my amp is farting at me. Ive tried everything with the EQ but no matter what I do it just sounds like crud. So I need to replace the pickup with something better, has anyone got any suggestions? (Im guessing i'll get a lot of X2N recommendations here )

GIGANTOUR!Megadeth/Bodom/JFAC pro shot pictures!+Review
by dmsdj5 on Thu Apr 24, 2008 8:37 pm
Well thanks to my buds in Job For A Cowboy and Ibanez, the guys hooked me up with a VIP and photo pass for any Gigantour of my choice. I was going to go to the ATL show, but Louisville is closer.
SO...I headed up to KY Saturday morning. Easy drive, made it there by lunch. I called Bobby (JFAC guitarist) and myself, him, and Ravi (other guitar player) walked around Louisville trying to find some food. Went to Hard Rock Cafe, Starbucks, and headed back to the bus. We played some Call of Duty 4 and bro-downed a bit. Went inside for sound check, where I got to meet Roope, Janne, and Henke (sp?) from Bodom for the first time. REALLY nice guys. Couldn't understand a frippin word that came out of Roope's mouth. I've wanted to see Bodom for about six years or so, so it was a treat to get to see them live for the first time.
I was told that if I saw Mustaine or if he passed me in the hall, stand against the wall and don't look or talk to him. Well, I never saw him because he rushes off to his hotel room and stays there until about an hour before the show. Went back to the bus and watched the first game of the final four. JFAC are from Pheonix, and were livid because Shaq sucks and they lost the game. The went on to play, I did my thing and took pictures. They've gotten WAY better live. Took like 400 pictures in 35 minutes.
Then Bodom went on. During their 3 song, the barricade snapped right behind me. I could hear it and I FREAKED out because it looked like the crowd was about to rush all of the photographers in the front and crush us against the stage. Their stage manager saw it, pointed it out to Janne, he pointed it out to Alexi, and they proceeded to take a 20 minute break while they fixed the barricade. TOTAL boner kill. We sat on the side of the stage and talked about BS the whole time. We decided what songs they would have to cut from the set. I told Alexi that they HAD to play Hate Me, because it's one of the best songs they've ever written. They went on and finished their set, etc. etc.
JFAC got me a catering ticket, so we went off and did that during In Flames. I've worked with them twice, so I didn't really care about missing them. Catering sucked, the caterers didn't bring enough for more than probably 50 people. After that, we watched some of Megadeth and I took a few pictures. I only watched the first 5 or 6 and then we went back to party. Went back to the bus and we bro-downed until bus call. I drank....a lot. We had the intentions of going out and bowling afterwards, but no one had the energy. And it was really cold, so %$#@! that.
