I'm super tempted to order one for myself, seeing as my scales etc are very VERY sub-par. Just looking for advice.

Rusty Cooley uses them...so I'm thinking they probably work. Rolling Eyes

JEBUS T!TTIE F#CKING CHRIST GC SUCKS!
by Blacktooth Grin on Tue Jul 01, 2008 10:11 am
Guitar Center sucks Gary Colemans balls...
Let me explain, I'm visting my dad here in north california, it's a pretty long visit, so my Dad offered to buy me a guitar while I was here. Because he knows day without a guitar for me is like Cartman going a day without cheesey poofs.

So we go to the local GC, I find a nice* PRS SE Singlecut(*by nice I mean one of the least molested guitars there, but still it's almost in used condition), take it home and everything is cool, then 2 weeks later the frets are starting to wear quite fast, and bent notes are starting to fret out. Mad

So we return it, and I pickup a nice* faded Gibson V, I figure a USA guitar shouldn't have that problem, take it home everything is cool, for 2 days...then the guitar starts buzzing like hell, I know this buzz, it's the "I'm not grounded" buzz! Evil or Very Mad Plus the bridge pickup's output has severely dropped and it sounds like arse, I have no idea what that is.

So here I am now, what do you guys think? Should I fix it? Return it, and get something else from GC? Or return it, get a full refund, and call up Steve @ BRG?

I'm thinking the latter...

Building a Caddy
by battereye on Tue Jul 01, 2008 2:01 pm
Hello Guyz! One of my friends is building a custom guitar for me, based on the Cadillac shape. We ain't got a template, but got high quality photos, so we could draw one. But:
We don't know how many mm is the width of the Caddy's body? Thick, like an ML's, or fat, like a Les paul's.
In the pictures I got, I think the width of the body is thicker, than an Lp's...
we would like to build a very fat soundind, brutal guitar, but the comfort is very important too...
Otherwise, the body material is brazilian mahogany with a flamed maple top, the neck is maple too. Set-in neck construction, string-thru design, Sperzel locking tuners, and Dean time capsule Usa pickups...Smile
And the finish is based on a wasp-spider, see-thru black-to-yellow colors, and a spider or wasps graphic on it...

In my home, Hungary, Deans and specially the Caddys are very rare guitars, so I can't find one to measure the width of the body.
If anyone of you could, please help me! Thanks a lot, men!

Where can I get replacement plastic knobs for my 83 Z?
by jwood on Tue Jul 01, 2008 7:24 pm
I pried off my black/clear plastic knobs off my two pots last night and cracked the plastic on both of them. Are these knobs still available new? I don't know if they were really fragile from being very old, or if I just pried them off wrong.

It is a clear plastic, with white numbers underneath, And black paint over that underneath. A pretty cool effect.

I hope I didn't completely hose myself.

Here is a picture online of the knobs I am looking for:

by metalmessiah17 on Tue Jul 01, 2008 7:46 pm
Does anyone remember the site that had a flash program letting you make custom guitar images? I can't seem to remember what it was called and Google is not being very helpful. It had mainly Gibsons and Fenders, but also quite a few random Jacksons, Ibananas, and I think even some Yamaha guitars that you cool mess around with.

I recall it being in a thread where people were just posting up photoshopped guitars, but I couldn't find that thread with the Search anymore, it must have gotten deleted when the forum got its makeover. Cheers!

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel two shows - tonight in Belgrade and tomorrow in Zagreb - this is due to Glenn Tipton being ill - he has been pretty sick for about a week now but has struggled on regardless - he has been in a lot of pain and has been told be a doctor that he is suffering from a very painful appendix inflammation and needs to come back to the UK to see a specialist which he is doing today - he has been instructed by the doctor not to perform for a couple of days - this is the first time in the history of Judas Priest that we have had to cancel any shows and we are very sorry to all those disappointed fans - however Glenn's health must come first!

Many thanks for understanding!

Jayne Andrews

All I can say is... Oh s#%t.

I feel bad for Glenn and Priest. This couldn't have come at a worse time. I hope it's nothing serious.

Figures though. I bought about $600 worth of concert tickets for two shows in NJ.

Hate to say it...
by Dean_Lefty14 on Wed Jul 02, 2008 3:41 am
but im jealous of an 8 year old.

Tallan Latz, i watched him play at summerfest here in milwaukee and i noticed something... he was playing a dean, so i just did some research and realized hes a dean artist... im really jealous of this kid haha

the only thing i dont like about these young players is that even though they are extremely talented... they never have their own music, its always really good covers. and even though i know they can play, thats the only thing i dont really "respect" about them. but no offense to them, im just stating a fact.

EDIT: ok, i watched a video and it seems they can freeball it pretty well and know what they are doing. but still, they dont record or play their own stuff live.
Bonnaroo Micro TLLL
by LewnWorx on Wed Jul 02, 2008 6:26 am
Well here I am 5 hours from heading to the airport for the Rothbury festival, and I just now finally got through the Bonnaroo shots.

As I'd rather have sleep than edit BBE code all night, I'll have to do the full boat TLLL when I get back from Rothbury.

At any rate, these have been late in coming, so I figured I'd put up a little something in the mean time..

Thursday 06/12

First up, Henry Butler. This guy was amazing, and had an incredibly good guitarist.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

George Porter back stage checking his email on his iPhone.

Image

Dark Star Orchestra

Image

Image

Note the Roland guitar wart. He had a VG99 in the rack.

Image

Image

Image

We ended the night out with Porter, Baptiste & Stolz. By far one of the most versatile & just balls out talented bands of the festival.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Check out the bend.

Image

Friday 06/13

Umphrey's McGee.

My current favorite live band tour de force. These guys are friggin incredible, when you consider 70% of what you hear they are making up on the spot.

Think Dream Theater on steroids that does mostly improv.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Raconateurs

Image

Image

Image

Image

Rilo Kiley.

Image

Image

Cute, good voice. Fairly poppy. Least she can sing really well live.

Image

Image

Image

And the ever so politically aware and pissed about it, state radio. I'll be interviewing these guys at Rothbury

Image

Image

Image

Image

Metallica.

Not my best work, we came from too far aware for me to get to the pit to shoot.

Image

Image

Image

Image

My Morning Jacket. Rolling stone declared this the live show of the year. We got poured on. When my camera started getting completely drenched, we bagged. Apparently we missed the best part of the show as a result. Kirk (Metallica) & Mike McCready (Pearl Jam) came out and jammed with them later on.

Image

Image

Image

Saturday 06/14

BB King. I didn't know what to expect at 82, but the dude can still seriously wail. Was thrilled I got another chance to see him do his thing. Killer backup band, btw.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Iron & Wine. Sam Bean owned. In the top 5 bands of the fest far as I was concerned.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Little Feat.

Played almost the exact same set as when I saw them at SPAC in 1991. Still can wail, make no doubts.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Ozolmatli. I'd never seen em before. Funky as all hell. I you can't dance to these guys, you're probably dead.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Phil Lesh & Friends. 6th time I've seen em this year, and they just keep getting better. Jackie Green has really come into his own this year, and Larry Campbell, hell he's just friggin scary he's so damn good.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Molitz catches me catching him. Heh.

Image

Image

One of the about 5 bazillion stringed instruments Larry's mastered.

Image

Sunday 06/15

After several hours of Phil the previous night, we get treated to an acoustic set on Sunday. Larry's wife Teresa Williams sat in and Phil announced she'll be touring with PL&F from now on. EXCELLENT!

Image

Jackie looking more like Dylan every day. I would have killed to have his sight reading chops at my age, let alone his.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Another of Larry's "toys". There isn't much that has strings on it that Larry doesn't just demolish.

Image

Image

Yonder Mountain String Band.

Good good are these guys scary. Unfortunately I didn't get as close as I'd liked due to scheduling between stages, so I caught them from the crowd.

Image

I love that each guy has a rack o' gear for what are all acoustic instruments.

Image

Image

Image

Image

When 200mm isn't enough reach, there's always the jumbotron.

Image

Robert Plant & Alison Krauss.

Ok first I gotta admit, I LOVE Union Station. Any chance to see Alison Krauss works for me. I wasn't sure what to expect, but this set friggin ruled.

Image

Image

Image

T-Bone Burnet popped out for a few tunes. In addition to playing with em, he produced the CD, as well as all the zillions of other projects he's involved with. That guy is busy busy busy.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Widespread Panic.

Just pure fuggin joy seeing these guys.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

And some fireworks to end the night & the festival with, timed to the closing tune.. Neat.

Image

At any rate, I'll do the full on write up when I get back. But now, I gotta get a few hours sleep before the o'dark thirty flight out.

I have seen alot of awesome people leave because of this.

But, I have also shared alot of great times here, and met some really, really great people. Through this forum I have seen some damn good players and some of the most generous and kind people ever.

Anyway reflective moment over.

Hopefully I will have another 2000 posts!

Pickup Winding Machine?

A friend of mine was looking for a pickup winding machine, as he wants to start custom winding pickups, anyone know where he could get a machine for it? I don't think theres a particular budget...

EDIT:- It's Joe for those who know him, lives in the US and I don't think he can just use blu tack and a whisk Laughing
Painted a guitar for a friend.
by toner on Thu Jul 03, 2008 7:50 pm
Jackson RR, painted the black, then did the blood splatter, wet sanded the blood with a block to knock it down a little, sprayed the clear, so the guitar is textured, the blood is textured, then buffed it.

Not crappy flat blood splatter like you see on most production guitars. Like the dan jacobs ESP or whatever.

Furman PQ3 for sale $300
by detchord on Fri Jul 04, 2008 12:20 am
Image
Up for grabs a used furman pq3 same as use by metallica and dimebag

unit looks great for it's age and works perfectly. if your looking you know what this is !!! detchord@gmail.com hit me up.....I'll sell that sonic maximizer too. It's brand new!

here is a little info

FURMAN PQ-3 Parametric Equalizer / Instrument Preamp were Furman?s first product in 1976. (Jerry Garcia bought the first one). Now it's a collector's item. still used by top guitarists. Dimebag owned several original PQ-3; he used the FURMAN PQ-3 for many years throughout his successful career and albums.

In 1998 Dime asked the Furman Company to bring the PQ-3 back. So they did. The ?newer? PQ-3 was identical to the original except they added a front panel ?? input along with the rear one, so you can plug into the front or back. The green and red faceplate from 1976 was the same. The preamp was the same and the sound is the same. And so is the PQ-3?s extra deep and wide range of adjustments. It goes from +20 dB to ?x, infinite cut. That?s wider than you?ll find in studio parametrics, and it?s great for guitarists. With the Furman PQ-3, whatever you want to do, you can do more of it. Create your own sounds.
Laying the smackdown on EMG
by Borock Yomama on Fri Jul 04, 2008 12:25 am
Just bought a new set of Seymour Duncan Blackouts for my SplitTail.

Not only did Duncan price them below EMG, but they also put the three pin connector on them that EMG uses so you can swap out your EMG's and replace them with Blackouts simply by pulling the plug. No other changes are needed.

That's brilliant marketing strategy if you ask me.

I don't know what it is about this guitar, but I just spoted it; and it had me running to the bathroom with some serious gas pains. It dosen't seem that special, it's only 499 but I think i'm in love; and being that i've always been a strong hater of tele's, this has made me question my existance of a guitar player. But let me know what you guys know about this guitar.

X2N n00b question
by Bullet on Fri Jul 04, 2008 2:06 am
Every thing I've read on the X2N says it designed to push tube amps into overdrive. So I got a question, how do they sound played through a solid state amp? I've been wanting to try one since most you have nothing, but good things to say about them. However since I play through solid state amps, reading that one line made me a bit wiry about buying one.
Has a song changed the way you think, act, live?
by scot2272 on Fri Jul 04, 2008 2:47 am
I was at work late tonight, plugged my MP3 into one of the stereos and hit random.

Suddenly as I'm working my way around the showroom doing inventory, I heard a lyric, people try to take my soul away, Now back a few years it meant one thing to me...rebellion, kiss my grits, etc.....

Now standing there at work, it was kind of a blow to my gut, it actually kind of took my breath away and left me standing there stunned. That one phrase pulled almost out of context, had me standing dumbfounded and thinking about things, lets just leave that where it is without details.

I'm sure this has probably happened to someone else, Now my question....

Did that moment of realization change how you did something, whether it was a complete change of the course of your life, or just a decision to get a chocolate ice cream rather than the usual vanilla doesn't matter. I just want to hear someone elses story.

so....ready, set, GO

Cab for road king?
by styphon on Fri Jul 04, 2008 3:49 am
I just bought a road king II and I am trying to decide on a cab for it:

I am not sure if I should get a 2x12 or a 4x12, or a recto vs a road king cab.. I tried the sizes out only recto only at a guitar center, I like the bass response to the 4x12 but its heavy as hell and I am only playing in my living room/basement with friends and if anything we'll go to small bars to play.

I am clashed over the recto cab vs road king because the road king has one speaker open back, one speaker closed back and I heard the open back was much better for cleans (which is one of the reasons I got the RK).

So what are your opinions?

Gibby or ESP EX
by oaktree156 on Fri Jul 04, 2008 11:06 am
Since i was about 13 ive always wanted an Explorer but could never afford one...I was a Metallica fanatic as a teen and to me James was the king of metal guitar(sorry DB fans, although he is one of my fav's 2)...Well now i can afford one...and dont know wich to pick...

So what's the difference between the ESP from Japan and the Gibson from usa...all i can tell just by looking at pics is...the ESP dosent have a pick guard(wich i like)and it come with a set of EMG's (dont know if i like cuz never played a geet with active pups)..oh,and its 2000 bucks!!..the Gibson has a pick guard, wich is kinda a turn off and what ever pups it comes with(the the standard Explorer)..but its also about a 1000 bucks cheaper...n e one ever played both of them...if so whats the big difference....and before i get torn apart here...i do on a couple of ML's...thanks

I know a lot of you use the EMG 81/85 combo, but what do you think of the 85 in the bridge? I thought the 85 is a lot more full sounding in the bridge with a lot more response.
Worth Entering?
by Benthic_Pig on Fri Jul 04, 2008 12:45 pm
Hey peeps,

I was mucking about with the camera the other day and thought I might jam something for the shred contest.

Its a bit rough like, I'm not really used to composing this sort of thing (i mostly play doom/depression stuff like crowbar and similar things to cult of luna). I guess what im worried about is that it might be...dull.

Also, I cant edit it as I dont have quicktime pro...so the video has some useless parts...and hilarious when I change my footing near the end, it looks like im leering over the camera, LOL. I was going to jam a cleaner version, but my hand is a little achey for some reason...

What do you think? If I clean that up a bit and don't make any obvious mistakes (that slide to bend half way through kills me hearing that) do you think its worth entering? Maybe I could represent the lefties, since I havent seen much activity from thhe ole south paws...

Anyway, here ya'all go. I'll fix this at some point with a better version and perhaps send it in. Its really odd seeing myself play!

Boss SD-1
by Serbusfish on Fri Jul 04, 2008 12:52 pm
There is something wrong with my Boss MT-2 pedal, its adding a horrible treble bite to my tone, so I need to replace it with something. The way I use the pedal is I have the gain at 0, level max, and 12 noon on the eq's. As all the pedal is currently doing is boosting my guitar signal I figured I may as well get a proper overdrive pedal instead of buying a replacment MT-2. Been looking around and the cheapest pedal I can find is the Boss SD-1. I remember a while back I was involved in a discussion about overdrives and this pedal got a mixed responce, some loved it, while others hated it. So im asking again, is this a good pedal? Will it boost my amp like the MT-2 does? Is there a better alternative? Does it sound good?

Microcube Street - got one.
by BradWorld on Fri Jul 04, 2008 5:59 pm
I got this Roland Microcube Street. It is the two channel, two speaker version. One channel for guitar, one for Mic/Line. I had this thing fall into my lap. I dont think I would have purchased one on my own. However, it is quite a decent little practice amp. First, when comparing it to the regular cube, it is double everything. It is stereo. It has two amps and two speakers. So the sound is quite a bit more full. It is not much louder, just more of it. And it does not experience that farting out you get when you crank up the normal cube. So that is a plus. The mic/line channel is a nice feature if you are a street performer, or want to entertain at a backyard party. It has a combo TRS / XLR jack for that channel. Channel two is nearly identical to the normal microcube. There is no channel switching or mixing... they are completely independent, and you use their individual levels to mix the sounds. Verdict? It is great if you need to sing and play, and require a batter powered amp to do both those things. But if you are not gonna require the mic/line channel, this thing is not worth the extra money over the regular cube. I would suspect that for the money, the new Microcube RX would be a better value for a the guitarist. I cant wait to try the new Microcube RX Bass!

Sup dudes, just put up a brand new vid on the tube. Check it out please!

As the description says this is the Krank Jr with the 10 band MXR Eq and X2N pickup.

I think the camera picked up a pretty good depth to the sound, but please remember that I'm working with ancient hardware here. Laughing

If you have a bass and treble control on your speakers please adjust them accordingly. It helps a lot.

Gear: Dean Dime o Flame with X2N in the bridge, MXR 10 band graphic EQ into the front panel, DR tite fit strings. Guitar tunned down to D standard.

New to Randall army...help with RG100HB?
by ungarn on Fri Jul 04, 2008 9:47 pm
I have just joined the “Randall Army” with a halfstack found on craigslist. I think that I did OK for $250…here is what I now have:

Head: RG100HB
The board inside is labeled “Randall RG80 Amp” with serial number B3234 9637.
Cab: RA412JB (4x12 Jaguar speakers)

I have had very little luck finding info on this exact amp, and am ignorant regarding Randall’s in general. Here are a few questions that I have (posted on a few forums):

The serial numbers for both start with “97” does this mean that they are 1997 vintage?

Where can I find a manual online for the head/amp?

Are there schematics available?

Are there any MODS available to improve the tone, touch response, crunch, etc.? I have modified pedals and such and am handy enough with a soldering iron. It is loud as hell but not as gainy as I thought it would be. Guess that it is like a solid state JCM800.

What footswitch do I use? There are two separate jacks on the back, one labeled “Channel Footswitch” and another “Kicker Footswitch”?

Can a Dr. Z Airbrake be safely used with this head for home use? My Wife and Kids do not really appreciate my newfound VOLUME!

How can I make it sound better? I have read some threads regarding boosting to improve the gain/distortion. Is this done with the clean channel 1, dirty channel 2, or both? I have some overdrive and distortion pedals available but would appreciate some tips!

What is the deal regarding EQ’s? Other threads indicate Furman Parametric, or MXR 6-band…is this done in front of the amp or in the effects loop?

Last but not least…sample control settings would be most appreciated!

Sorry to ramble on, just excited about my new gear.

Best regards and thanks in advance!

My Duncan Blackouts review...
by Borock Yomama on Sat Jul 05, 2008 2:24 am
Just finished installing a new set of Duncan Blackouts in my Split Tail.

They blow away my EMG's in every respect.

Noticeably higher output, yet quieter than the EMG's.

Bridge pickup is particularly sweet -with more audible distortion than my EMG 81's and better harmonics/articulation/saturation. Very nice indeed.

I guess I'll be putting a set in my Razorback as well.

When I bought my silver VMNT1, it did not come with a case... so I am curious where I can buy a case for it. Anyone know where I can pick one up? Body on 80's Korean Hollywood Baby Z is made out of plywood?
by jwood on Sat Jul 05, 2008 10:20 pm
Dear Forum,
I stripped the paint off of my Early 80's Dean Hollywood Z and I noticed that it is made out of plywood. It was made in Korea. It looks like it was sprayed with a single stage red paint. Under that is a thick greyish beige primer.

Is this the way that all painted Deans are made, even the US ones? Or only Korean ones? I am used to guitar bodies being made out of mahogany, or other solid woods.

Does plywood work well as far as tone, durability, weight, ect...

Thanks

So once again the band I am in fell apart. For those of you that care, it was just me and the guitarist, and the guitarist just decided to give up on music and said he wanted to strictly concentrate on work and stuff (he's 20 years old) and I understand that completely, but I still kind of feel like shit knowing I no longer have a band, and more than likely never see my friend again, as he was considering moving and now has nothing to hold him back. Sorry for the rant but I needed to vent. And sorry for sounding like an emo, and yes I know that most of you guys have much bigger problems than I do.
Country songs for a metal head?
by dan_plus_o on Sun Jul 06, 2008 1:52 am
Hello my name is Daniel and I am a 20 year old metal head. I have buddy that is totally into country and he is wanting to play guitar with me and possibly play some songs at a local bar (open jam). The thing is he likes country and I don't really like country at all. So I was wondering what are some good country songs that would appeal more to a metal head? They can be more country/rock or whatever I am just looking for something we will both like to play. Maybe a song with the usually country rhythm part but then a more intense faster lead part.

So any recommendations for faster up beat more technical country songs that would appeal to a metal head such as myself?
Wombat's LP NDC
by Wombat on Sun Jul 06, 2008 3:09 am
I try to keep my posts on this forum as Dean related as possible, BUT I thought the time had come to share something that is very special to me.
I graduated High School in the class of 1981, and I bought myself a gift. A 1981 Gibson Les Paul Custom silverburst.
I had to wait a couple of months that seemed like years for the special order paint job.

That is the headstock. Can you say headstock?

So, growing up as a young man and teenager, I always wanted an LP. Can you imagine the first time I saw a Caddy? I almost wet myself.

I hope that some day I can get a US Soltero, and Hardtail, but circumstances being what they are, I don't think I'll be playing one anytime soon.

By the way, can anyone guess why I want a SB DOA Caddy so bad?
A new clip i recorded....
by ml_pilot on Sun Jul 06, 2008 5:08 am
Hello All,

OK so I feel like i am hanging my ass out in the breeze here but here is a new clip i just recorded this past week. This is version # 3 and I have just been learning how to do this so be easy on me. This is Hell bent For Leather by Judas Priest. I found a backing track online and decided to give recording with a track a go, and I am pretty pleased with it. I have an old mid 80's Hondo 2 Strat with a GFS crunchy rail pup in it on the left side, and a 67 Gibby V copy with a Duncan JB on the right. let me know what you think of this effort. I am painfully aware that I goofed the ending so lets leave that one be shall we... LOL thanks guys.

mouth for war solo.
by Dean_Lefty14 on Sun Jul 06, 2008 6:31 am
Ok guys, heres a printscreen of my guitar pro version of mouth for war.

my only question to those who know the solo already

Does that look correct? the reason i ask is because it sounds ok when i play it, but the thing that always hooks me up is how he hits the same note like 3 times, you notice that right at the beginning of the crawl.

So is that correct?

Pedal's w/ Tubes
by scott58 on Sun Jul 06, 2008 10:26 am
Not real happy with my TS 808 and have been searching around a bit and the mp3's on this one sound pretty sweet. Kinda wondered if tubes in a pedal isn't a bit gimmicky, but considering the price of this and who makes it maybe that isn't the case. Not into death metal at all. Looking more for a Damn Yankee's/Nugent type tone. Any one compared tube OD's pedals to standard?

Favourite Shredders
by Iguana Kebab on Sun Jul 06, 2008 10:48 am
Ive just had thought to see what peoples favourite shredders are. Being a dean player i'd be expected to say Dimebag or MAB, but no. It's Yngwie Malmsteen for me. He shreds a strat, it shouldnt be allowed, it wasnt built for that.
engl,mesa,peavey....
by GeetGeek79 on Sun Jul 06, 2008 12:45 pm
im soon going to buy a new head(saved for ever) but i dont know what to get. my thoughts are and engl powerball/fireball, mesa boogie(i dont know which one), or a peavey 6505+. i have only got to play the peavey which i loved right away. the engl is so much more and i dont think it sounds any better and i never use clean channel so who cares if it sucks on the peavey. I play a lot of metal like the black dahlia murder and stuff. just give you thoughts, experiences, or suggestions for other amps. it would help out a lot. Thanks
So... I went to Wâldrock yesterday [Deans!]
by Ebut on Sun Jul 06, 2008 1:11 pm
A local festival
www.waldrock.nl

Forbidden played Deans!!
Well, at least the two guitarists did. The one that looked like Corey Bouaileyeuiiue played an ML and the one that looked like Dino Cazares played a Razor V and Razorback.

So did Morbid Angel if I remember right, their bassplayer.
And somewhere I spotted a Demonator, but can't remember which band it was...
Maybe more, but I didn't catch all the bands.

Line-up:
Slayer
Missed, went home, hate Slayer.
Queensryche
Missed, went home, just don't like 'em.
1349
Missed, went home, didn't even bother to check them out.
Biohazard
First festival with original line-up since 20 years, awesome show!
Life Of Agony
Pretty decent, but nothing spectacular.
Morbid Angel
Not my cup of tea.
My Dying Bride
Really? Come on now! Bunch of emo faggots.
Lordi
Fun to see for once, lot of show though.
Rose Tattoo
Nice oldskool hardrock ['n roll], never heard of them, but they were really nice.
Helmet
Rather boring actually.
Forbidden
Deans! Thrash! Good!
Death Angel
Bunch of little Asians making a lot of racket. Pretty cool.
Symphony X
Missed. Time to eat and get more Jägermeister.
Hollenthon
Check out a couple of songs, not really my thing.
Pagan`s Mind
Heard them in the distance, glad I wasn't too close.
Hail Of Bullets
Mwah.
Death By Stereo
Awesome! Efrem was all over the place, in/over/between the crowd, lot of energy, killer show!
Alchemist
Who?
Greyline
Local band opening the festival. Good, but not my thing.
Strawelte
Local punk legends! Best show of the day!

Pictures here [so far]:
http://www.hanske.nl/waldrock/images1.htm
and:
http://waldnet.nl/fotonieuws.php?d=1215342436

When I find more, I'll post them up! Didn't take pics myself, sorry.

All in all an amazing day. Wheather was goood, Jägermeister was good [mix with redbull], music was good, crowd was good, pits were good, atmosphere was good.

Damned Noise !!!
by HugoLC on Sun Jul 06, 2008 2:18 pm
I play a JCM 800 2203 1982 through a 1960A who's from this years 2008 , for setting for sure I run it full gain so I know it make a normal noise likje presence 2 bass 10 mid 5 treble 6 master 3 or 4 and preamp 10 and I boost it with an SD-1 gain on 10 ...what is really special is that the amp had a noise before but not that big ! It seems that he does that noise since a play it with the volume higher like 5 or 6 ... and the pro where I drop it says to me that it's was no more noise ...so it's the cab ?

And yeah I know I play with a lot of gain and I tried to lower it and it was ok , my lower input channel too is ok , it's in the upper input...the noise is like a normal noise but too high and when I put my SD-1 on , it makes the same sounds as a shower lol , so I like wtf ?! because before for sure it was making a normal noise but not that loud

Studio Mixers...
by Pete on Sun Jul 06, 2008 7:23 pm
Alright.

Me and a friend got a little studio running. We got a really nice place. We know someone whos in the domain and has contact. So we had people in the domain for a lot of years come to our studio.

We only got compliement on it. The way we buit it, and the space we got.

Now, our guitar mics are good. we got SMs and i personally like the tone i get out of it with my Randall HT.

But it's when the vocals chime in. They sound weak and distant. (no i dont sing far from the mic) So i go to a local store, and ask a couple of question to the guy in the Sounds departement.

I ask him for preamps and stuff. And he tells me i should upgrade my mixer first. Since our mixer is our soundcard, and a very low-end yamaha model, i thought he was right.

So now im on vacation, got a lot of free time. Soooo, guys have any suggestions for a 500 to 1000$ mixer for studio use, that must have at least 8 Ins and is a soundcard.
Time to refinish this turd. **THE TURD IS FINISHED**
by Graunke on Sun Jul 06, 2008 7:54 pm
So I ruined this dime o flage that I had and put this textured stone crap on it, then cut out some diamond plate and bolted it to the damn thing.

Now it sounds like complete ass and I hate it. I've decided that it doesn't even look cool anymore. So, what are my options/suggestions for refinishing this damn thing.

FYI: It sure seemed like a good idea at the time and it involved less than one case of coors light to get it done.

**UPDATE 11-9-08**
Here are the pics along the way. With the finished product. Finally. It sounds as ugly as it looks. Mission Accomplished.

But I'm a big soad fan, they were like my first great concert that made me go, "yeah, this hobby of guitar playing will be my life" and it has been so far. In guitar world daren said that scars was going to be more clasic rock oreinted than system, and I can hear it in the song but not as much as I had original anticipated. but what do you guys think about it. Non-Dean pr0n
by Enosmac on Sun Jul 06, 2008 10:44 pm
Well, Like I said in the Newbie Forum, I got my daughter a Daisy Rock 3/4 Short Scale Butterfly Guitar, since I'm learning, she wanted to also. Plus, kids pick up stuff a lot faster, and since she's only 6 she'll have a long time to learn, if she sticks with it, she can be my retirement plan if she gets really good Laughing

Anyway, here is some funny pr0n. It's actually fun to play on being 3/4, and actually has a nice neck and action on it.

Comparing my 2 razorbacks...
by _Razorback_ on Sun Jul 06, 2008 10:44 pm
Ok guys i really dont knwo why my two razorbacks sound so different, My yellow devil (which i got from musicions friend for 600 buck) was built very badly, the harware is terrible and the yellow outline is very out in places. I know two guitars are never the same but my yellow devil and two tone sound completely different. My yellow devil is also REALLY HEAVY! Are Razorbacks supposed to be very heavy or is my two tone just very light. My jackson kelly is heavier than my two tone RB. The yellow devil is very very distorted and gives out a very ncie tone, while my two tone doesnt sound as powerfull, maybe its because of weight? Im not sure but I dont like to use both my razorbacks live because the tone changes so much.

by BTMN on Tue Jul 08, 2008 11:47 am
Steven Tyler Laid Off From Aerosmith As Band Jobless Rate Hits 20%

BOSTON—After years of relative stability, the Aerosmith unemployment rate soared to an all-time high of 20 percent Monday following the downsizing of the band's vocal sector, Steven Tyler.

Tyler, already dangerously underweight, says he will struggle to put food on the table without a steady income.

The announcement of the largest-ever round of Aerosmith layoffs sent shock waves throughout the group, but band leaders said that four decades of perfect employment was "unrealistic" and that it was necessary to shed some of the graying, outmoded workforce.

"Explaining to a longtime Aerosmith employee that his or her job is being eliminated is one of the most difficult challenges we face in this business," Aerosmith manager Trudy Green said in a statement released this morning. "We thank Steven for his many years of loyal service, and wish him the best of luck in all his future endeavors."

Analysts speculate that the sector-wide layoff was a result of multiple factors, including redundancies in the singing-songwriting division, rising rehab fees that have cost the group millions, and a 34 percent decline in jump-kicks since 2003. In addition, some of Aerosmith's younger, more ambitious employees, such as Joe Perry, 57, are willing to sing and play an instrument at the same time, often for half the salary.

"Tying a scarf to a microphone stand is unfortunately no longer a marketable skill," IndustryWeek editor David Blanchard said. "To compete in today's job market, you need to diversify your skill set. Someone who can not only sing, but also play tambourine and haul heavy equipment, is infinitely more valuable to a company."

Aerosmith, whose unemployment rate has held steady at 0 percent since the start-up rock outfit went public in 1970, recently underwent a paradigm shift away from what many deemed an antiquated business model. In the early 2000s, Aerosmith stopped manufacturing hits and instead began to focus primarily on repackaging and redistributing its existing product. This, Green said, made Tyler dispensable.

Tyler was reportedly informed of the decision 45 minutes before the band was scheduled to go onstage for a performance, and was told to pack up his belongings and turn in his Aerosmith "wings" pin before the audience arrived.

"Thirty-eight years of work, and this is the thanks I get?" said Tyler, who was set to retire in just 18 months. "It's embarrassing. When [guitarist] Ray [Tabano] left back in '71, we all got treated to a nice dinner and some cake on his last day. And he was only in the band for five months."

"The only reason I came on with Aerosmith in the first place was the job security," added Tyler, who said that after nearly 40 years of waking up at 5 p.m. sharp and going to work, he won't know what to do with himself when unemployed. "And I liked being able to come in wearing an unbuttoned leather shirt and a leopard-print cowboy hat. Where else am I going to find a job like that?"

Morale among the remaining Aerosmith employees, Tyler's coworkers said, is low.

"I'm going to miss Steven," said rhythm guitarist Brad Whitford. "He was a good guy, and, I don't know, I thought he sang pretty well."

This cost-cutting personnel change is Aerosmith's most radical shift in economic model since the band's experiments as a drug-trafficking cartel from 1978 to 1984, their brief 1986 merger with Run-DMC, and their short-lived 1994 attempt to switch over to fabricating microchips.

"This restructuring is exactly what Aerosmith needs right now," said Justin Levine, an analyst at Lehman Brothers. "Frankly, they've been in brand decline since that Super Bowl halftime show with Britney Spears."

"Everyone was hurt badly in the big 1998 Armageddon Bubble," said Bill Griffeth, host of CNBC's Power Lunch. "At that point, practically everyone—even members of the younger generation—bought into Aerosmith, but it was clear that they would not be able to sustain that level of global interest. In truth, purchasing any of their material since Get A Grip has involved a substantial level of risk."

Tyler is not the only one in the industry to be affected by the recent recession. In January, Bad Company was outsourced to China, and just last week, Don Henley of the Eagles was replaced by a drum machine.

Dean Soltero USA vs. Gibson Les Paul Standard
by nytan on Tue Jul 08, 2008 2:16 pm
Alright folks...I haven't seen this one thrown up as a Pro-Con debate just yet, so let's have at it. I've owned several Les Pauls and just one Soltero USA and they are very different instruments.

Here's what I see so far:

Soltero:

Pros - Much greater attention to detail, better quality materials, greater sense of durability, sleeker instrument.

Cons - Sonically extremely new-age (lacks vintage appeal), less balanced (more neck heavy).

Les Paul:

Pros - Classic fame/pr0n value, consistent tone (you know a Les Paul when you hear one), timeless design

Cons - Poor quality control, overpopularized design (everyone has one)

Sorry I've been away for the last few days...
My mom and I moved away and are living at her friend's house.
The reason we moved is that we simply couldn't deal with my father anymore. (Some of you may know why, some won't)

So I've been without internet for a while... But I'm back online!

What'd I miss?

Have you ever noticed that Jim6 usually has good advice for those seeking it, or answers how to use different systems on the forum that you can't quite figure out on your own?

His avatar has always been that crazy penguin.

You know how you develop a picture of a person, such as a radio personality that you always hear, or maybe someone on a forum such as this, then one day you may be shocked to see what they really look like.

Once, I was fortunate enough to get a nice picture of Jim6 so that you no longer have to have an imaginary image of him.

...all new guitars and amps these are that good to my Livingroom Noodler's ears.

http://www.mogamicable.com/cab_assemblies/goldassambl_links/goldseries_assemblies.html

I paid $46+ 7% tax for an 18 footer. I'm headed back to Guitarget for 2 6ft speaker cables, a 3ft speaker cable for the Brian May Vox, and a 3ft. cable to go from the tuner to the amp head. I decided to remove the 3 ft. one I had in place and ran straight to the head just to see how that would be. Shocked Twisted Evil Cool Mr. Green It was SO MUCH louder, I was INSTANTLY convinced. A Hamer Fan Club and occasional DOA lurker posted to try them and I did. Until I get back to Guitar Center I have my 12 ft Monster 500 running from the tuner to the Crate head. It is SO FREAKIN' QUIET between hits of the pick on the clean channel. YUM!!!!! Single notes ring very bell like at times. BTW, the 12ft Monster costs as much as the 18 ft Mogami. Twisted Evil Razz Cool

As with most things, YMMV!!!!! Mr. Green

New Hendrix material
by Vince on Tue Jul 08, 2008 8:19 pm
World Entertainment News Network reports that a lost album Jimi Hendrix recorded with rocker Stephen Stills has been discovered more than 30 years after it was recorded.

Stills recently found the recording among a stack of material he taped during the 1970s, and his Crosby, Stills And Nash band mate Graham Nash is helping him prepare it for release.

Nash tells the Las Vegas Sun, "He has an enormous history of recording. In the '70s, he was a recording fool. He just found a bloody album he made with (Jimi) Hendrix."

"'Oh yeah, I forgot that. We've got to listen to that... I want to listen to every track he ever recorded in case he recorded with Al Jolson."

Hendrix's solo work in progress at the time of his death has previously been issued as the album First Rays Of The New Rising Sun, but the news of extensive recordings with Stills is a revelation.

Stills' 1970 self-titled debut album did feature Hendrix on one track, Old Times Good Times, but now it seems that there is an album's worth of material. Stills' album also featured Eric Clapton, but it's not known whether there is attack featuring all three guitarists – Clapton has never claimed he recorded with Hendrix, even though the two were friends.

Line 6 Toneport UX1
by Enosmac on Tue Jul 08, 2008 11:58 pm
I went to my local Guitar Center yesterday, and as usual I had to buy something instead of saving up to buy myself a mid-range axe. Anyways, my impulse buy this time was the TonePort UX1 by Line 6. Was looking for something so I could hook up to my computer and play and maybe record my progress, since I've only been playing about a month now.

Anyway, this little thing rocks. A lot of different Heads, Cabs, and Pedals are modded. Plus, you can download setups within the program of your fav song/band/guitarist. I instantly downloaded the setup to Purple Haze, and played the intro (Basically all I really know Hendrix-wise so far). Sounded pretty damn close. Granted, I don't have my "ears" yet and I know modeling can only do so much, but any sound you can think of you can get pretty close. Plus, there is NO latency at all... although I have a pretty beefy system, it never uses more than 10% of my CPU.

If you've been thinking about picking up an interface to play your guitar through your computer and record some things, I'd recommend it! If anyone has any questions, lemme know.

Ok.

The new album as you all know is due september 30th.

But what i really wanna know is...

What do you think the Tuning of this album will be?

Ember to Inferno was Standard.
Ascendancy was Drop D
And the Crusade was back on Standard.

Since Trivium has 're-done' this album as everything trivium is and to this day is.
What do u think the album will all come down to?
back to drop D?
or standard again?

A week later I pick it up and nothing is coming through. So I see my solder joint came off and headed out to finally buy some flux, now it does help a TON. However, there is no sound coming from my guitar no matter how I rewire it and I've done tons of soldering have the schematics available and now I'm worried. Hey guys it's getting close to time for a new guitar and in the new music style I'm going it a gibby would suit me nicely. I would love to have a gibson les paul custom but I don't have the cash for one and I don't think CJ will give me his. Very Happy So I'm looking at an sg, I've got one of the epi's g-310's in red that I put a dimebucker in and put grover custom peg's in that look like gibson's. and it's a good feeling guitar so I want to get a gibson one. which one of these would you guys sugest? I want to stay under a grand so less than the standard and I would like to stay away from p-90's so let's avoid the clasic. and don't sugest a dean, I love dean's but I can't get used the the dean C neck and when I play the V neck all I wan't to do is shred; and my new musical style dosent involve shredding. and if your wondering les pauls feel better to me but the lower end LP's just don't cut it for me. So in the line of sg's what do you guys think?

My band's song (guitar tracks)
by Hot Sauce on Thu Jul 10, 2008 7:41 am
I'm stoned, so my speech may not be entirely correct.

This is a rough idea of what my band sounds like (please keep in mind, this was recorded just after we completely finished. It's not in a complete song structure, but instead it is the riffs of the song played in the order they go in in the song. My high E string was also slightly out of tune.)

I play the clean lead in the big intro, and the second one that starts at 3:27, and the other guitarist in my band (highly inspired by the style of Jus from Electric Wizard) plays the solo that starts at 4:37.)

The end is us getting experimental with feedback. Sounds cool.

SCAM ALERT!! USA WASHBURN SOUTHERN CROSS #97
by slaytanic on Thu Jul 10, 2008 6:30 pm
Im only posting this becasue I dont want to see anyone get taken from this douchebag. Apparently there is a guy on craigslist that has a USA Washburn Southern Cross # 97/100 with the black back that is only asking $1600 for it. I almost got suckered into it as well. We all know how rare and sought after the southern cross guitars are and how much they have been selling for on ebay when they do eventually pop up. This one here seemed like a little too good to be true. Well it is.

I been talking with my good buddy corpse and he was telling me how he though it was a scam. Well he was right. He did a bit of searching and showed me the emails this guy was sending out. I just now recieved an email from the same guy and its the same exact letter as he recieved.

First off, this guy is trying to say that he is using the www.theonlineoutpost.com/ (ebay dropoff center) third party to recieve payment for this guitar. Looking at the site, it clearly states that they do not use a third party for payment and that they only take paypal as payment. Apparently this guy wants your full name and address along with your credit card number to complete the transaction. Remember that the online outpost only uses paypal.

This is the very first line of his email.

> william weiss wrote:

He also states that the guitar is located at the online outpost warehouse in Las Vegas Nevada. I called them up, they were closed, but thier message did say that there is a craigslist scam going around that says that they are using the online outpost as thier third party to make this transaction and to steer clear of sending anything through moneygram or western union as you will never see your money again. Again, they only take payal. They also stated to report any scam like this to the Federal Trade Commision at www.ftc.gov so they can try and hook these guys and catch them.

This is just a heads up to anyone thinking about getting this guitar. You can pretty much guarantee that the guitar is not sitting in Vegas. Like I was told by the corpse that the only way he would go after it is if he walked into the online outpost in Vegas and saw the guitar in person and handed them $1600 cash on the table. I agree wholeheartedly. So I guess if youre daring enough and you live in Vegas or are close, go ahead and go in there and see if its there. If it is, youll get yourself a killer deal, but dont hold your breathe becasue this is a scam.

Heres the link to the craigslist posting for the guitar.

I was just flippin' thru the June issue of UK's total guitar mag at a store near my house. They also rated V shaped guitars for under a grand (1000 euros, I guess?), and they Gave the Dave Mustain sig VMNT 4 stars outta five..., I was suprised when they listed the pros & cons of the guitar. They listed "conservative styling" as a con..., conservative?!? Ever seen a Gibson V Question Oh, wait a minute, they gave the Gibby V 5 stars Confused

I have always wanted a Trans Braz ML. Stole this one on eBay and it is just as the seller listed it....BRAND NEW. It went really cheap too and I was the only bidder. The reason, it looked like a fake ad. Stock photo, very brief description etc. The seller has 100% feedback though and he responded to my question telling me it was a brand new guitar still in the box with no flaws.

I rolled the dice and 4 days later, I have my newest Dean. Life is good.

Randall Warhead 2x12 Combo For Sale!!!!
by classic_rocker978 on Fri Jul 11, 2008 6:00 am
This is the 1st generation of Randall warheads in 2x12 combo form... Effects and everything are fully operational and sound great... Both channels work great and the foot switch is included.. Heaviest sounding amp I have ever owned.... tight on cash and my tastes are changing more of a classic rock guy so I got a nice 30 watt tube amp.. I did remove the plastic tips on the sliders, on the 9 band EQ section because once i got my sound set i didnt want them moving around and being bumped... the sliders can be easily moved by a pick though... this to me was a huge upgrade and a necessity to keep my tone while moving the amp.. huge range of tones.. and to me almost sounds tube like when boosted... Payed a bit over $650 used for this and I am the second owner.. it has been gigged occasionally but never rough... I am willing to negotiate a price... idk how much shipping will be im guessing around $50ish dollars... if not a bit more? But ill be sure to pack it as if I were packing myself into a box... and then some...

The concert was simply amazing and fun, they played over hour and half and then returned and did two more encores. Tito is an amazing showman and great singer and he was really pleased by the crowd's reaction.

When they started playing After Dark the crowd went nuts, the atmosphere went through the roof and at one point during the song Tito started dragging out girls from the audience and dragged almost 20 people on the stage with him! Cool

Anyways, it was a blast and here is some pron (sorry for the bad quality)!

Trouble Switching back
by Wombat on Sat Jul 12, 2008 7:06 pm
I've been playing fingerstyle acoustic for about six weeks now.
No electric guitar. I've really been practicing hard and trying to play my best.

The other day I had found that I had finally attained an acceptable level of performance on the acoustic, so I busted out my Dean, fresh from the shop getting all set up.
He did a fantastic job.

I am having a hard time switching back to my electric style of playing.

Has any one else ever experienced this?

by Rude on Sun Jul 13, 2008 3:11 am
The local music shop here in Santa Rosa is going out of business. I went in to check it out. He is almost cleared out, but he still has a few nice guitars left.

If I wasn't planning a Disneylland trip at the end of the month I would have bought one of the 2 Razorbacks he has.

He has a two-tone (black and silver) Razor with EMGS and a Razor Explosion. $830.00 out the door for either of them WITH a Dean hardshell case.

I almost pulled the trigger on the Two-tone, but it would have cut into the Disneyland funds and wifey would have been pissed.

I doubt they will last long.

The store is called MusicX in Santa Rosa CA if anyone is interested. He has an EVO, a bolt on Razor and some Dean acoustics too.

He also has a Gibson, a few Ibanez's and some Schecters.

Oh yeah almost forgot....A Laney FULL STACK with the VH100R head for $1,800.00 out the door.

I didn't have time to haggle, but he is going to be out of the space he is leasing in a few days.....so he may be willing to negotiate.

MLXP tuners
by shawnoftheshed on Sun Jul 13, 2008 11:54 am
I should be receiving a white mlxp in the next few days. I got one of these as a beater guitar because I love my naked lady so much I feel guilty when I see it out of the case in the corner of the room collecting dust. Also I whacked it into my guitar teachers door frame the other night and nearly s#%t myself.

Im not too bothered about the specs of the mlxp as long as it plays but one thing really will bother me - does it have plastic machine heads like the mlxm? If it does I think I might cry.

Also, does metallic white mean that it is all glittery?

Question
Advances made on Return Of Off Topic Section
by Wombat on Sun Jul 13, 2008 3:17 pm
Great news! I have inside information that someone from Dean has been put in charge of studying our ideas on the off topic section.

They have asked that we no longer post complaints on the forum because that has been completely hashed out.

If you have any complaints or ideas in general about the off topic section you are to either send them to Dean Guitars in hand written form, or send them as a fax.

Adresses and fax numbers can be found on the home page.

GC has some real CRAP!!
by Vman on Sun Jul 13, 2008 4:35 pm
So I went to Guitar Center last night to look at mini guitars for my son.... Oh what fun I had....NOT!!!

So I looked at the Ibanez Mikro first its a cool looking guitar its got points and we all know points are cool
BUT it was so out of tune that I spent 20 min just getting it in tune
SO tuning it EADGBe but by the time id get to e the rest was flat
so thats why it took 20 min to tune
so I played a few chords and when I got to my third chord it was all went flat and sounded like crap I dint really look to see if it had string slippage but at this point I didn't care
Looks cool tho

Ibanez GRGM21 Mikro Electric Guitar Features:
22-1/5" scale
24 frets
Dual Powersound humbucking pickups
Hardtail bridge
Image

So...on to my second choice

I really didn't want to get the mini strat I'm not a fender fan
they are GREAT guitars but I'm just not a fan
But anyways so I pick up this mini strat.
GUESS WHAT....Its in tune a tad off but real close so I just give it the once over a quick look at. It stays in tune and it plays so much better than that mikro and past the 9th fret it still is playable
oh thats what I forgot to say on the mikro I tried to play a little lead and anything past the 9th fret just didn't work (POS)
the mini strat was really cool it was so much better
so I played it for about 30-35 min and I was sold
cool little rocker its not a metal guitar but it is a rocker

Squier by Fender Mini Strat Electric Guitar Features:

Small-scale neck
(20-3/4")
Three single-coil electronic pickups
Master volume and tone controls
Maple C-shaped neck
Rosewood fretboard
20 medium frets
Hard-tail 6-saddle bridge

Image

so I got the strat, gig bag, cord, pics, and a strap
and the strat was in much better shape then the Mikro
so pre-play scratches digs or anything
Ill post some pron of my kid rocking out tomorrow
its Birthday Party time tho and the Fam will be arriving shortly... Rolling Eyes

Have a Good Day I know I will Wink

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/yt-lRHSlJDlOjg/how_not_to_use_the_drive_through_atm_accident/

FROM SHELBY COUNTY TODAY: ---Shelby County, Texas
At approximately 3 PM, Tuesday, July 2, a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500, pulling a new travel trailer, hit the corner of the Texas State Bank Drive-In on Tenaha Street, causing the complete awning to come to the ground. Luckily, the driver of the Dodge, Mickey Miller, of Garrison and his 10 year old son were able to exit their vehicle uninjured. According to Miller he was circling the bank to park on the other side when the corner of his travel trailer caught the corner of the bank awning. Next thing he heard was a rumble as the awning started falling against his driver''s side door. Somehow he was able to unbuckle the seat beat and exit the other side of his truck as it was falling. Mark Ivy of Texas State Bank stated that the main lobby would be open for business while the drive-in is being repaired

MOST OF THEM ALL WATCHED CB4 ANYWAYS. THEY ALL CANT BE HARDASS REAL GANGSTA'S .

YOU ONLY GET LIKE 12 CENTS PER CD SOLD FROM ROYALTIES. I NEVER SEE NO JAYZ SHIRTS OR SNOOP DOG GRILLS OR WHATEVER FOR SALE SO THE G-DAWGS CANT BE MAKING TONS OF CASH FROM MERCH.

GREAT CONCEPT BUT THE BASS PLAYER TROLL KID SEEMS REALLY STUCK ON HIMSELF. I REALLY HATE KIDS LIKE THIS GUY. GLAD COREY AND THE DRUMMER DID MOST THE TALKING. THEIR EXPERIENCE IS COPY AND PASTE BECAUSE ALL THEY KNOW IS JASON SUECOF, ANDY SNEAP AND COLIN RICHARDSON. THE KINGS OF REAMPING AND DRUMAGOG. I PERSONALLY LOVE DRUMAGOG BUT NOT A FAN OF THE REAMPING SO MUCH. THE LATEST MACHINEHEAD AND BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE CD'S RUINED REAMPING FOR ME. SO BUZZY AND UNATURAL. I AM CURIOUS TO HEAR THIS CD THOUGH. AS FAR AS THEIR BIGHEADS THINKING THEY ARE GOING TO START A NEW TREND. DONT COUNT ON IT. NO ONE WANTS TO BUDGET THE MONEY TO LONG RECORDING TIMES. THEYD RATHER BUDGET IT TOWARDS TO MIXING AND PRODUCING PROCESS.

Many of you write lyrics?
by jameshammett04 on Tue Jul 15, 2008 5:12 am
I've been brainstorming this evening and have been writing stuff down as it comes to mind. Mainly based off of strong feelings for past events of late.

Question to you folks, what inspires you dudes? Do things just come to you and get put to paper or do you plan things out by, for example, taking a subject matter and then proceeding to write upon it?

Also, I'm not my band's vocalist. I wish to put the stuff I have to him. Does anyone feel they need to explain all meaning - however deep - so that the right mood can be taken on by the person that will be in command of the lyrics? Or leave it open to his/her own interpretation?

Just curious, as I've never let anything I've penned go further than my head and - once or twice - a notepad in my drawer.

Whats with trivium?
by Dean_Lefty14 on Tue Jul 15, 2008 7:40 am
Ok, now im not a trivium fan. but i have always liked the song "Pull Harder on the Strings of your Martyr"

but what happened to the energy of the song?

heres a clip from 05 at download:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=EMu8iMOE_SQ&feature=related

the chorus is the part i really liked. now on the record it sounds awesome, "It's our curse that makes this world so hopeless
Allowing our king to spread his genocidal wings" sounds amazing. and in the 05 clip he does it OKAY, but then heres an 06 clip and he sings the entire song really badly. what happened?

http://youtube.com/watch?v=DV5QDQ-YJok&feature=related

its like all the energy from the song just goes away in the 06 version
Darkening Rosewood Fretboards
by Serbusfish on Tue Jul 15, 2008 10:29 am
Soon to be in my hands is a Washburn 2ST, really happy to finally be getting one of these guitars, but from the pics the guy sent me I noticed the fretboard is fairly light in colour, kinda looks odd on this guitar imo. So I was wondering how I could go about darkening it? Im not after an Ebony pitch black look, just a darker brown colour.

Here's the Pr0n he sent me:

my guitar is mahogany like this one and I want the wood to look as much like this as possible if not better. Is there a brand name of satin finish you guys would reccomend ro get high quality looks and feel? and also how do you apply the finish, with just a brush? and last question, how many coats of satin should be applied to get that look and sleek feel? Thanks a bunch

Retro NAMM part VIII
by Wombat on Tue Jul 15, 2008 2:21 pm
BB King was doing a show for a company. If you're real sharp you should be able to figure out who.

We were watching and BB said Neil Schon wants to join us. So he was jamming with BB.
A few minutes later, he said " There's someone else who'd like to come up does anyone mind."
"Ladies and gentleman. Pat Travers!"
They spent about 45 minutes playing the blues, taking turns playing solos with BB as their leader.

This is one of those shots where you have to hold the camera in the air and hope you get a decent shot.

I haven't seen one of these pop up in a while, so I figured I'd start one up. So how about it? A thread just filled with guitar pron for people to enjoy! So post away everyone! Here's a few shots I took the other day, I'm not too good with a camera, so bear with me.

Here's the ML with its brand new Dimarzio Super Distortion, just threw it in yesterday!

I realized I never took a pic and posted it of Cadzilla after I added the new pup to it, so here it is!

Image

My old Wasburn X-series. First guitar I ever bought with my own money, I worked my arse of to afford this when I picked it up. Had it for 7 years, and it's definitely my workhorse guitar.

Image

Lastly, here's just a picture we took a few weeks ago of all the guitars people own in my house. We've got ourselves a nice collection going, and it's only getting bigger. This pic is missing my Washburn and Jackson, as well as another person's Jazz bass, Mexi-strat, classical acoustic and Cadzilla.

Biggest ZZ Top Post Ever on Dean Forum!
by Wombat on Wed Jul 16, 2008 3:21 pm
We all start our band some where.
Billy called his band The Coachmen in 1965.
Image

He didn't always have the look that he's famous for!

Image

Then came "The Moving Sidewalks!" They were professional working musicians now!
Image

Billy's the only one that went on to "ZZ" (He's the one with the six stringer"
Image

They performed from 1967-1969.
They even made records! ( They were kind of like ipods, but you needed some extra hardware to make them work)

Image
Image

Talk about luck! They got the job to open for Jimi Hendrix.
I read an article where Billy said he and Jimi woul jam til all hours of the night in his motel room, of course raising the ire of the other guests.
Image

Well... sometimes bands go there seperate ways.
Billy got a three piece group together and they called themselves ZZ Top!

Image

By 1971 they were playing where they could. Like a high school auditorium!
Image

They made a big record deal! Hit the big time!
Their second album is my favorite! (1972)
Image

Yes! They were officially "That Little Ol' Band From Texas!"
Image
Image

My second favorite ZZ album Tejas came out in 1977.

Image
Image
Image

Two years past before Deguello came out.
Image

After That album during the two year hiatus that followed the famous combed out beards were grown.
This is 1980 on tiur, and working on the El Loco album.
Image

In 1983 they relesed "Eliminator" And that is when the sky rocket was launched.
This is Billy's car that the album was named after.

Image

Then they discovered Dean guitars!
Image
Image
Image
Image

Please. No negative comments on the forum about this Dean.
Image

Image

Fast forward to today. Not all bands become musical legends.
Now they just bask in the glory!

Seymour Duncan Vintage Humbuckers
by nytan on Wed Jul 16, 2008 4:39 pm
I'm interested in which set is everyone's favorite. I've always been a huge fan of vintage P.A.F. sound and I think that SD does a great job of replicating some of it. The 4 to choose from are:

Seth Lover SH-55 (Joe Perry - Aerosmith)
Alnico Pro II APH-1 (Slash - Guns N' Roses/Velvet Revolver)
Pearly Gates SH-PG1 (Billy Gibbons - ZZ Top)
'59 SH-1

The only set I dislike is the Alnico Pro II. I think it's a bit whiny and thin expecially on a solo setting in the neck position. Personally, I'm really digging the Seth Lovers and '59's, but can't decide on which.

And guys, please limit this topic to Seymour Duncan's only. I know there are a bunch of alternatives out there, namely DImarzio's P.A.F. line, Lindy Fralins, and WCR Godwood/Filmore etc. If you have to make a comparison, make it to Gibson's original line.

deans and maple
by * on Wed Jul 16, 2008 6:37 pm
does anyone know why dean doesn't do maple boards (well, except the vinnie moore sig). is it because it's not possible for them to do or do they just not want to?

it'd be cool to see a maple fretboard on a caddy, z, ml, or v. maybe a white body with some black binding and black block inlays or something? similar to this.
Image

is it not possible for them to make a maple boarded import or do they just not think it would sell?

Tight Hands
by AXeL9876 on Wed Jul 16, 2008 8:13 pm
ok, so does anyone here have an unusually tight playing hand (if you are a right, then I'm talking about your left and if you're a lefty then vice-versa)?

I'm a righty and I constantly keep finding myself with a really tense left hand (I don't know if it's the muscle's or what) often to the extent that it hinders my playing. It's not like I'm cramping up or something (I know that much) but I'm just wondering does anyone here have the same problem and is there anything that they personally do about it?
Anyone in the DFW area wanna do me a huge favor?
