Custom Nylon Picks?
by Zap on Thu Jan 01, 2009 6:38 am
Is there a source for custom nylon picks? I use the 46mm thickness, but I would like a 48mm. I've tried to sand down a 50mm but that's a pain and is inconsistant.
Thanks
Hey guys im new round here, but have been reading on here for a while. Now i was wondering if anyone knows much about these Washburn Dimebag Darbell guitars?
I have a DFH so im no Dean newbie, and i used the search and saw there was a small topic on this. So whats the story with these Darbell guitars? I heard they were a Misprint on the first line of guitars?
Cheers,
Chris
Im begging for your help now!!

As i told you in my "new amp day randall x2" thread, it squeels like hell when im not playing, or between playing or what i should say (not touching the strings).
How can i get rid of it, and what is it that is wrong?
It's driving me crazy!!
I know the amp is not supose to do this, and can i get rid of it with just a noise gate?
Cheers
i have been stuck in baton rouge since teusday morning. they finally got me a run,but it doesnt pick up till friday. so i will have sat for 3 days doing nothing, loosing my mind.
at least last night i went to hooters down the street and drank $150 worth of crown private reserve and flirted with the hotties for a few hours before passing out. drunk dialed a bunch of you guys last night.

DROPPING LOADS!!!! nick manning style!!
Might be getting myself a Dean finally.
Hey all ima prolly end up gettin myself a Dean ML Shadow at GC saturday.
Now, what i wanna get cleared up was... way back when i started back on the forum i remember someone sayin if you go out and buy a dean, give the person ur buying from this number and some dean dude will ask the person your buying from to give u a lil discount for being a dean member on the forum and all.
sooo what was that number again? and who was it? i'm thinkin steve but no can't be him... or am i just making this up? (which im not lol)
but really
my "Best Albums of 2008" with mini-reviews
Alright guys, i know this is a long read, but it's probably worth reading if you're into metal. You might discover something you may have missed this past year. I was actually able to do a top 15 this year! here we go...
Best albums of 2008
1.) Toxic Holocaust - An Overdose of Death...
I've been a huge fan of Toxic Holocaust since "Evil Never Dies", and I've been impressed with everything I've heard from them since. I had been anticipating this release for quite some time, and it was worth the wait - this is the best thing Toxic Holocaust has done yet. The first thing that struck me about this album is the production - it's full, thick, and beefy, as opposed to the relatively thin and tinny sound of the previous material. Not that the thinner sound didn't work for them, but this is just so much better. Even if the songs weren't good, I would listen to this album for the guitar tone. It's huge, thick, and ballsy. None of that scooped mids garbage here. I can actually hear bass. The vocals are less raspy, more throaty and vicious. Donny Paycheck (from Zeke) on drums really added something that the previous albums didn't have as well. Even with better production, it maintains a raw, blackened feel. The songs are riffier and more complex, but remain pummeling and aggressive. There are cool melodies and breakdowns and change-ups going on all over the place, but everything is still straight-forward and thrashy. On past Toxic Holocaust albums, there always seemed to be a couple throw-away tracks that I usually skip. This one is much more solid... really, the only song that's not doing it for me is "Feedback Blood and Distortion". Everything about this album is just absolutely killer. Joel really stepped it up and hit it outta the park with this one. Any doubters of the "thrash revival" movement should pick this up and have their minds changed by a face-melting nuclear blast!
2.) Amon Amarth - Twilight of the Thunder God
Amon Amarth's unique brand of melodic death metal has been consistently raping and pillaging the world for 10 years now. Every one of their seven albums is great. They have mastered the art of having a signature sound without everything sounding the same. Each album has it's own unique feel. "Twilight of the Thunder God" is a bit different from their recent output. It's a throwback to their first couple releases. it doesn't have much of the "epicness" featured on "With Oden On Our Side", but focuses more on unbridled, vicious brutality. This album is huge, pummeling, and relentless, front to back. Amon Amarth is showing us that they can do it all, an do it all well.
3.) Warbringer - War Without End
For some reason, Warbringer seems to catch a lot of flak. They are often accused of being trendy "posers". One listen to "War Without End" should clear up this nonsense - Warbringer is here to thrash your face off. This album is full of killer riffs, great songwriting, wailing solos, and vicious vocals. It reminds me a bit of late 80s Sepultura (Schizophrenia, Benath the Remains). The production isn't great, but really, how many classic thrash albums had good production anyway? If you like brutal old school thrash, ignore the elitists and check out this killer album.
4.) Merciless Death - Realm of Terror
Merciless Death has been one of the leaders of the L.A.'s thrash revival scene, but they remain relatively under the radar in the big picture. 2006's "Evil in the Night" was a hallmark for the resurrection of thrash metal. They returned in the spring of 2008 with "Realm Of Terror", a more cohesive and consistent effort that doesn't skimp on the evil. This is straight-forward, old school thrash filled with unrelenting riffage, classic screaming divebombing solos, and a healthy dose of pure evl. Did I mention that it's just evil as all hell?
5.) Paint it Black - New Lexicon
Paint it Black is here to remind us what hardcore is really about. It's not about trendy douchebags with bad haircuts whining about their ex-girlfriends. This is 100% speed, aggression, and anger. New Lexicon is full of frenzied 2-minute anthems played at a million miles an hour while Dan Yemin spews his venom on everything that pisses him off. There is the occasional melodic break that allows you to catch your breath before diving back into the madness. THIS IS REAL HARDCORE. Androgynous teenagers roundhouse kicking eachother is not.
6.) Bonded By Blood - Feed the Beast
I initially wrote off this band because I thought they lacked creativity, naming themselves after what might be the greatest thrash album of all time. Boy was i wrong. While Metal Blade is focusing on garbage like Job For A Cowboy, totally killer bands like Bonded By Blood remain ignored at the bottom of the roster. This album delivers a thrashing good time with a touch of technically that adds some really interesting dynamics to the songs. The solos absolutely rip, with a nice blend of "shred" and old school wailing. The shout-along choruses will be stuck in your head for days. "Feed The Beast" is highly recommended for fans of thrash, both old and new.
7.) Sunn - Domkirke
Sunn is an strange and interesting band. Just two guys with guitars, playing ultra-slow, hypnotic, minimalistic drone. They often walk the line between music and ambient noise. It seems like people either love them or hate them. I'm usually kind of "on the fence" with Sunn. They've done some really great stuff, and some that is just totally uninteresting. Domkirke is one of the best things they've done so far. It is a "live album", but Sunn's live albums are not typical. There is never a repertoire of favorite songs from their albums. Sunn's live albums are all new material, usually recorded in interesting locations. Domkirke was recorded in a medieval cathedral in Norway. The band is accompanied by the cathedral's massive pipe organ, adding another level of hypnotic droning. I don't know how this band does it, but they somehow manage to make 20 minutes of low-frequency noise feel like a song. I can't describe it, but it rules. This vinyl-only release is not something that you would put on to rock out, its something that you would put on to zone out, and totally immerse yourself in the crushing drones.
8.) Hatchet - Awaiting Evil
Another band that you'll find lurking at the bottom of Metal Blade's roster, San Francisco's Hatchet bring a unique flavor to the thrash revival movement, blending a classic thrash sound with NWOBHM-style melodic dueling guitars. There's great riffage all over the place, and great songwriting throughout. This is a must for fans of 80's metal seeking some fresh meat.
9.) Disfear - Live the Storm
Forget what you've heard from anyone hyping mediocre American hardcore bands. Sweden's Disfear effortlessly destroys most US hardcore these days. Two parts late 70s/early80s punk, one part old school metal, heavy, massive, roaring guitar tone, and a generous helping of mad-at-the-world, "Live The Storm" is a raging, ripping, euro-core masterpiece. In a time when hardcore is in such a shitty state, the world needs more bands like Disfear.
10.) Hail of Bullets - Of Frost and War
Featuring and all-star cast of Dutch death metal, former members of Pestilence, Asphyx, Gorefest, and Thanatos, came together to form Hail Of Bullets. And wouldn't you know it, they're another killer band stuck at the bottom of Metal Blade's roster while shitty trend whoring bands get the star treatment. Anyway, "Of Frost And War" is reminiscent of old school Swedish death metal. The keyboard intro may lead you to believe that you're getting into some lame Nightwish-esque symphonic metal garbage, but this impression is quickly smashed when the ripping riffage kicks into gear. The guitar tone is totally lifted from Dismember, but that's not bad thing, especially if you like a thick, chainsaw-edged roar. The riffs remind me of Grave, early Entombed, Autopsy, and Bolt Thrower, ranging from high speed ripping, to brutal chugs, to rolling tank-tread rhythms, with the occasional melodic break. The WWII theme and historically accurate lyrics are a plus for the nerd in you. This is highly recommended for anyone who likes REAL death metal and is sick of trendy garbage.
11.) Moss - Sub Templum
I accidentally stumbled upon Moss a couple years back and have been a fan ever since. They are proteges of Electric Wizard's Jus Osborn, who also produced this album. That should be reason enough for any fan of extreme doom metal to give it a listen. Moss is seriously pushing the boundaries of doom metal to new extremes. If you're looking for great riffs and catchy choruses, look elsewhere. This album is all about a feel of total desolation, bleakness, and sheer terror. I think there is more space between the notes on thus album than there are actual notes. The minimalistic guitar work consists of simple, ultra-downtuned power chord progressions that evoke some of the most dark and evil ambience i've ever heard. The gutwrenching vocals sound something like the death screams of someone being slowly devoured by a creature from another dimension. With the Lovecraftian lyrics, i'm pretty sure this is what Cthulhu himself would be listening to while lying dormant at the bottom of the sea. "Sub Templum" is just like something from a Lovecraft story - we're not supposed to know about it, but once you discover it, you are doomed to become obsessed and driven insane by it.
12.) Cannabis Corpse - Tube of the Resinated
It's easy to write Cannabis Corpse off as a novelty act. They come across as a silly side-project parody band. They don't help this by naming all of their songs and albums pothead-parodied Cannibal Corpse titles. But looking past all this goofy stuff, Cannabis Corpse are actually a killer death metal band. This album rips front to back. The sound is somewhat similar to, you guessed it, Cannibal Corpse's older material, but maintains it's own unique flavor. It's got that disgusting brutality and touch of technicality that makes this particular style of death metal great. Not only is the music immensely enjoyable, but the lyrics are downright hilarious.
13.) Witch - Paralyzed
Vermont's stoner-doom heroes Witch have been slowly gathering a loyal cult following since appearing in 2006. Their rocking, fuzzed-out, supernatural stoner metal sound is unique and truly awesome. "Paralyzed" took a step away from their 2006 eponymous debut, speeding up a bit and adding some punk-ish elements. It's an odd combination, but it somehow works very well. Witch remains under the radar for now, but I believe that they are on the verge of something bigger. Definitely check these guys out if you like doom metal and/or stoner rock.
14.) Exmortus - In Hatred's Flame
Exmortus is a band that you have probably never heard of unless you've been following the relatively new Heavy Artillery Records. They've been signing some great young metal bands over the past few years, and Exmortus is their latest acquisition. "In Hatred's Flame" is a killer chunk of death-thrash that balances old school catchiness with insane technical mastery. This album us absolutely worth picking up for metalheads the world over.
15.) Decrepit Birth - Diminishing Between Worlds
There are lots of technical death metal bands out there these days, and it seems like the majority of them are just cold, mechanical, soulless, wankery with no "feel" (i'm looking your way, Necrophagist). What happened to bands like Death, Suffocation, and Gorguts? Decrepit Birth is one of the few death metal bands these days who have that magic mix of technical mastery and actual songwriting ability. "Diminishing Between Worlds" is a great album full of unrelenting brutality and unique melodies. They wear their influences on their sleeves, ranging from Suffocation to Vital Remains to Death (the melodies are uncannily Schuldiner-esque). This is a seriously great, but overlooked piece of brutal yet melodic death metal.
Honorable Mention:
Testament - The Formation of Damnation
Cyaegha - Steps of Descent
Motorhead - Motorizer
biggest disappointments:
Cryptopsy - The Unspoken King
This is a rather long rant, seeing as this isn't merely a disappointment, but a downright atrocity. It's always sad to see one of your favorite bands become money-grubbing trendwhores. Once upon a time, Cryptopsy was one of the world's best death metal bands. Their first three albums are classics and absolute must-haves for anyone into death metal. Even the comparatively lackluster ones that followed were enjoyable, and Cryptopsy remained a loved and respected band in the metal scene. Their ever-shifting lineup has brought lots of changes over the years. The departure of principal songwriter Jon Levasseur in 2005 was disconcerting, but they managed to put out a solid album anyway. I don't think anyone foresaw what would happen with the departure of legendary vocalist Lord Worm in 2007. They recruited some douchey kid from a metalcore band on vocals. Then got some skank to play keyboards? Somewhere in there, Flo Mounier started sporting a faux-hawk. What the hell is going on here? 2008 saw the release of "The Unspoken King". This is not Cryptopsy. It can't be. They jumped on the "deathcore" trend. They have clean vocals and keyboards. Theres no way this is Cryptopsy... but, it is. Not only did they alienate their fans by abandoning their signature sound and jumping on the latest trend, but when the backlash came, they mocked and patronized their fanbase for disliking the album. Even if they came to their senses and put out another album that sounded like "None So Vile", they have lost the majority of their former fanbase. The saw Job For A Cowboy and their ilk cashing in, and wanted a piece... but when deathcore is no longer "cool", they will be worse off than before, and regret ever committing the crime that is "The Unspoken King".
The Sword - Gods of the Earth
The Sword was launched into noteriety in 2006 when a song from their debut "Age Of Winters" was used on a Guitar Hero game. I had heard lots of mixed reviews on this band, but when i found "Age Of Winters" used for $5, i decided to give it a chance. I was pleasantly surprised to find a solid and enjoyable doom metal album that i found myself listening to more often than i thought i would. in 2008, when "Gods of the Earth" was released, they streamed the entire album on MySpace. I listened to it, 4 or 5 times, and ended up not remembering a single thing about the album. There killers riffs and catchy hooks that "Age of Winters" had were gone. It was just an uninspired, directionless mess. But apparently, this 45 minute meandering bore-fest is good enough to get an opening slot on a Metallica tour...
Bloodbath - The Fathomless Mastery
Bloodbath is a "supergroup" of sorts, featuring a star studded cast of swedish metal musicians. They were formed to "bring back old school death metal". This was another band that seemed to get mixed reviews, but I personally was totally floored by 2004's "Nightmares Made Flesh". It is one of my favorite death metal albums. I was pumped for their new album, hoping it would be another "Nightmares...", but I was let down by "The Fathomless Mastery". This album is mostly uninspired an rushed sounding, with a few cool parts here and there. It's definitely not the worst album of the year, but it's just so "okay". I don't know how they went from total death metal mastery to total mediocrity. I guess the problem with "supergroups" is that these guys all have "main" bands that they focus on more than the side project, even if the side project is better than all of their main bands combined...
Thoughts on "Death Magnetic":
Yeah, a new Metallica album. It's a huge step up from "St Anger", but that's not really saying much. It's solid. They've got a pretty decent mix of late 80s and mid 90s Metallica sounds here. Unfortunately, this album is topping "best album of 08" lists all over the place, when in reality, it would be lucky to sneak into the top 25. It's a step in the right direction. We should be telling them "good effort guys, you've almost got it back, just push it a little further next time" instead of patting them on the back and showering them with awards for a relatively mediocre effort. The video for "All The Nightmare Long" is sweet though.
looking forward to:
There are plenty of bands who say "in the studio now!" or "new album coming soon!", but how many bands have said that and done absolutely nothing for years (ahem, Testament)? There are a few of those I'm looking forward to for 09, but who knows what's really going to happen? The following albums have been officially announced and will actually be released in 2009:
Wolf - Ravenous
Cannibal Corpse - Evisceration Plague
Suffocation - Blood Oath
First Blood - Silence is Betrayal
That about wraps it up. Hope you enjoyed it. Comments and opinions are encouraged!
Hi guys! Happy New Year.
I was looking at getting a new acoustic electric and was really looking into the Takamine Keystone series, but thought I would give Dean a good look. Anyone have a Dean Acoustic and an opnion on these nice looking guitars? Are any of them USA made?
It is hard to tell on the site, which are the higher end models.
THANKS!
Rick
ngd ndc omg omfg lol (now in paragraph form lol)
Okay so I think we all know that I was expecting a new guitar. a Gibson SG Standard in heritage cherry.
After i ordered it, i was told it was on back order. My dad ended up taking my money and going to GC; he got it from them because they had one (that was in the back not the one on the wall). He went up to Raleigh one saturday morning while I was still asleep. I was super stoked because after it was all said and done, the guitar actually came out to be $100 cheeper than it would have been online. So i got this guitar on christmas day and waited till now to do a review. I wanted to wait a week so the first feeling of OMG NEW GUITAR, would fade and I could see how the guitar was truly put together.
First off the past week has been a good break in week for this guitar. It has been gigged three times since last thursday. The first on sunday, second on tuesday third on wednesday. It probably has more tiny scratches than any guitar should a week after it has only been out for a week but thats all me playing it.
So I was actually surprised about how well it was put together. It took along time to find problems with it. After a good sit down and look over, there were four little spots that i found. One was on the edge of the headstock, you can't really see it but if you run your finger over it you can feel it. Feels almost like a small chip. The second one is at the bottom of the fret board. It is a small group of scratches around the 12 to 15 frets. They are all in the binding. The Third is in the binding by the neck pickup, along the corner there looks like a small chip. i'm not sure if that was me or came that way. The fourth is the actual neck pickup; the screws don't come all the way through the plate. The screws underneath the A and E strings seem to be just below the plate. It still sounds good but looks weird.
The sound is amazing. No matter how you set the amp it just has that AC/DC scream but the guitar is really rocking and sounds way better than the specials I had.
Now talking of the specials, the neck seems thinner than the specials. It may be in my head but I think the neck is wider; further distance from E string to E string. The frets are really good, like crazy flat. It took some getting used to at first. the binding comes onto the frets like good binding and what not. Overall the guitar looks great. I'm really happy with it, well worth selling two specials for. As a matter of fact I was planning on getting another sg special after this guitar for dropD tuning at shows; but this guitar blows my specials away so much I think I'll just save a little longer and get a used sg standard in black. So i'm super stoked with this guitar.
Now for pron. I wanted to do outdoor pron because the pics always come out better. But its too darn cold here. When ever it warms up I'll take it out and do the outdoor pron.
This is kinda cool, underneath the "made in usa" it says "2008" for the year it was made. I've never seen that before.
Thats my Gibson SG Standard, made June 21st, 2008 in Nashville TN, Production Number 24.
now bring on all the,
"Dean USA > Gibson USA" comments
But for the record I feel like this is the best guitar for me.
Rotosound bass strings are very popular among bassists, and i use them on all of my basses, but i've never heard of any guitarist using their guitar strings. have any of you tried them? i love them so much on my basses, im interested in trying them on my guitar. i've been using Ernies, which are great, but im curious to see what some of you think about Rotosounds...
question about the custom shop
is it possible for them to make me a custom 7-string ml (like the 7-string 255 rb, but combined with the usa dime ml redwood). i know that there is a 7 string limited run trying to get started, but this would be different right?
Can anyone make that for me in a picture like:
Body: Razorback
Finish: CFHw/blue line
Neck: Razorback Standard
Tremelo: Floyd Rose Tremelo
Knobs: 3
Switch: 1
Please someone make a picture of this cause i am gonna make a guitar like this
US to Canada road trip--Now in Campbell River BC
So Andrea and I left Baltimore this morning for the West Coast to kick my music career into the right direction. We are stopping at BRG on day 3 for some face time and a jam of sorts, plus I have to fondle all of Steve's stock. lol We just arrived in Cleveland and are bedding down for the night. I am gonna keep this thread as our trip log. Now I have to go find some Chinese food.
Need some advice

So I recently got a BC Rich Deluxe Jr Pro V as I posted about a week ago. Now that the initial OMG OMG NEW GUITAR OMG OMG feeling has partially worn off I've noticed that I am not a very big fan of the floyd. I dont find myself using the floyd hardly ever and it just seems unnecessary. However, this guitar has the nicest neck I have ever felt. It's almost effortless to play it and my fingers fly. So do you think I should keep it because of the almost perfect neck? Or return it because I am not really a floyd kinda guy?
(I am very indecisive)
It would be really nice if someone made this for me.
Body: Razorback

The big 36 today!!!

The big 36 today!!!
Still recovering from a crazy night at my friends camp. We had a blast as usual, lit the wooded sky's up with plenty of fireworks and a huge bonfire to bring in the New Year... as well as my 36th b-day. This made our 9th year ritual going to the camp for New Years Eve. Always good times!
I never did much drinking, but with the lack of sleep it sure does make it feel as if I did. When we got home my wife gave me another $150 gift card to my local music shop. Now I have more $$$$ to go for some gear.
Not sure what I want yet, but I'm sure I'll find something of interest on my next visit.
Hope everyone had a great New Years!
Anybody ever build/buy a Weber tube amp?
Just wondered, their prices are wicked affordable and you buy either a full on done one with your choice of KT-66's or EL-34s or a semi built one you can finish yourself
Pic of michael Ammots new Dean V
plus 2 other new guitars. we've seen the one blue ml but heres Michaels v, another v and some ml

I think i might get the ammot v. it looks like what the mustaine v should have looked like in my opinion. a jackson v with a dean headstock. I almost bought the mustaine v couple weeks ago but couldnt do it due to that ugly headstock. this one is killer.black hardware on it and it just might be on the list to buy this year.

I know there are some CKY fans around here!! TheOnlyFactor!? You especially!!!!
I've loved this band for years, the music is awesome, the riffs are creative, and they've always been one of those bands thats never taken crap from the industry!! And they're all awesome dudes too, I've gotten to hang out with them at every show I've been to since 2003. I think its lame that many bands put up this huge front on how in touch with their fans they are, only to go hide on the tour bus all the time. Not these dudes!!
click the link, watch the vid from the Hellview Halloween show, at the end there is a Happy New Year from CKY informing everyone about the new album!!
I can't wait to see what Roadrunner helps these guys with. They finally are on a label thats worth a crap.
http://www.ckyalliance.com/news/detail.cfm?newsID=448
So as a player, I have a BIG problem with harmony and melody. Like, the nice sounding stuff. I know a few acoustic songs but my strumming is iffy. I've tried to do some prettier sounding, chilled out songs on my own, but I fall WAY short.
Is there anything you guys work on, or do when going that route?
Effect Questions for Research
I'm doing some effect pedal research for future reference. I'm an effect freak and know a lot of sh it about the things. Rare, strange, discontinued, new models, etc. I stay on top of the pedal game. But there are just too many pedals to try out, so here are some questions:
1.) What is the smoothest, most full sounding delay pedal you have ever tried out/owned in the $50-$200 price range?
2.) What is the smoothest, most full sounding distortion pedal you have ever tried out/owned in the $50-$200 price range?
3.) What is the best flanger pedal you have ever tried out/owned in the $50-$200 price range?
4.) What is the most full, broad sounding wah pedal you have ever tried out/owned in the $50-$200 price range? (No Dunlops, please. Not a big fan of them.) Was considering the Morley Bad Horsie II, because I like the design, the automatic turn on/off, the tone knobs, and Steve Vai/Devin Townsend's wah tone. I'm sure it's what i'll end up with.
5.) What is the best sounding chorus pedal you have ever tried out/owned in the $50-$200 price range? I'm looking for a chorus that is shimmery, but not overwhelmingly bright, and sounds really full and complete. I like to use chorus with distortion, too. (Was considering either the Boss CE-20 Chorus Ensemble (the twin pedal) or the MXR Stereo Chorus.)
Fret Hangers
by Conbud on Fri Jan 02, 2009 4:30 pm
I gotta say this is a killer idea!
I might have to order me one, I just dig the idea of being able to hang my guitar in the closet!
I am jonesing for a V something awful....Just need to find the right one, and I am brand agnostic on this search.....I just want to find me the flying V I want to keep forever....
so, if you've owned a Flying V or 12, anytips on what to look for? I'm not wanting anything like a King V, I want the classic look for a V.....
What are desirable models and such?
Agathis Q?
by _koppen on Fri Jan 02, 2009 6:20 pm
How is Agathis tonewise?
Is it a good tonewood, or bad?
And please, no judging of cheap guitars, cause they just suck cause of the crappy parts, not the wood.
If i want a metal sound out of an Agathis guitar, what pup's would i put in them, if i want to stay passive?
Will the wood make the sound bassy, or bright or what?
MySpace Help Please
by spz on Fri Jan 02, 2009 7:26 pm
http://www.myspace.com/domitheband
So it seems the CSS I am running on our MySpace profile messes up on a few browsers, making text flicker from white to black and even parts of content disappearing
So pretty please if anyone have seen simmilar issues modifying the nastiness that is the CSS scheme of MySpace, or any wise words, I'd appreciate any help.
Also I am of course open to any other criticisms you may have should there be any.

An a Epiphany of sorts! Limited Dean content
This is a reflection of my teenage years, things experienced or saw on the Media
I was there when Rik Emmitt wielded a white Dean V during the solo for Magic Power and Say Goodbye (prerequisite Dean content )
I remember when Ozzy bit the bat
I was there when Randy Rhodes soloed Suicide Solution then was gone
I was there when Eddie fired off Eruption + for 10 minutes
I remember when Jon Bonham died
... and Skynyrd's plane crash ...
I was there when Def Leppard played Rock Brigade & Wasted
... and Judas Priest ruled the metal world with an iron fist
I shook Ritchie Blackmore's hand
I saw Black Sabbath on the Never Say Die and the REAL Heaven & Hell tours
...speaking of Sabbath I was there at Lebanon Valley when a bunch of cars were rolled over and set on fire when they headlined Blue Oyster Cult on the Black & Blue Tour
I heard Ted Nugent warmup
... from 10 miles away
A favorite idol became my friend, John Arch
I was there when Metallica and Slayer toured together
I was there when Joe Satriani still had hair
I saw Gene Simmons blow a 12ft flame at me (he was 20ft away and just below me)
I caught Yngwie's pick
I remember Vince Neil almost lose his career
I saw Graham Oliver spin his flying V on his beltbuckle mount
I remember when MTV was called Music Television and was only on a few hours a day. The opening music was Led Zeppelin's "Carouselambra"
I remember being in a sea of Deadheads watching the Grateful Dead perform Knockin on Heaven's Door at Saratoga Performing Arts Center (outdoor natural amphitheater venue) as a severe lightning storm crackled all around. Talk about an epiphany in my "mind-altered" state
anyway, I am blathering
How cool is that?

As for speed, you could be a helluva lot faster. I had been playing 18 months before I had Eruption down. So does another 6 months sound fair for you to get up to par?
Also, waaaaaay too much gain.

I believe you need to quit being an ass to other players, I would never talk down a fellow musician, and try to get them to think they play like "Eddie on Weed". What kind of musicianship is that?
Just telling him how it is.

Hey how is all doing? Happy New year to all. I cant wait till DOA-I have met a lot of cool people there from the first time I went. Every one has always been great with tips and all and seen my progress from my first DOA when I had only been playing for a month or 2. So on to the story I started the new year off by getting up and playing a song with my friends band and that was a first time it was a blast. It was only the 3rd time playing with a full band. We played Paranoid. I will post some pics soon.
Happy New Year!

It was great, everyone enjoyed it. Just wanted to let all the DOA brethren know that I am making progress and have come a long way from the first DOA experience. Pics coming soon... Take care and look forward to seeing everyone at this years bash

After a pretty crappy last few months I felt I deserved to treat myself to a new axe.
Its not the sort of guitar I would usually get but I'm glad I did, it kicks ass!
Its a Fender Strat Players Deluxe that was modded out in a black/gold style.

PRAWNS!

Tremol-no question.

I saw a link to this in another thread, and I have a question about the Tremol-no.
If I install it in a DFH with a floyd, will I be able to tune my guitar down or up without adjusting the trem?
And is it hard to re-install the springs after taking it out?

DMT Ascension Pickup Question
by FearCage on Sun Jan 04, 2009 12:32 am
Hello,
I'm literally in the process of soldering in my Ascension pickup for the bridge of my Soltero Standard. However, I have a quick question.
In the instructions it says that the white and red wires are to be taped together and soldered, however, it doesn't tell me where to put them. Do I just leave them unconnected to a pot or something?
Thanks,

The Eastwood stormbird, my review
by Blazer on Sun Jan 04, 2009 12:42 am
Today I went to this Belgian shop that I discovered purely by accident last week when making a wrong turn on the way to a party. This shop looked like a fun little shop to visit from what I could see from my headlights shining into the darkness. In short I was bound to return there when the opportunity would present itself and today was the day.
When I walked in i was delighted to learn that they carried Eastwood guitars, which had attracted my attention from the moment they first appeared. So I got my hands on a Sunburst specimen of their Non-reverse Firebird (Why do they call that a "Non-reverse" when it's actually the normal Firebird shaped reversed?) renamed the Stormbird.
And here's my review.
Overall feel
The guitar is a big wide and fat affair, which suits me fine being a player who uses explorers as his main stage guitars so I felt at home with that. The overall weight of the Stormbird was medium, not as heavy as a good Les Paul. Bulk, however, was plentiful in the neck, this certainly is no neck for people with small hands, it feels like a good size baseball bat and the Jumbo frets added to that feel of having a big guitar in your hands. Comfort issues weren't really that much of a hassle, it does feel neck heavy when played sitting down (I didn't strap it on) but with the long headstock with the cast-sealed tuners that shouldn't have come as a surprise. The guitar was set up with a set of 009 strings which clearly couldn't bring out the best this guitar can offer and frankly for me they feel like rubberbands.
Nooks and crannies
The fret ends of this guitar were worked out well, no razorsharp ends sticking out to slash your fingers. But the finish on the neck covering the sides of the fingerboard could benifit from more eye to detail. The edges were rough and charred, they were buffed to a shine but you could still feel them. Equally rough was the pickguard, there wasn't one straight and neat routing to be found and the edging was hobbly and crude. The P90 pickups looked rather cheap (more about them later). And frankly I thought that the sunburst looked a little too yellow for my taste. Kudos however on the hardware, the pots feel sturdy and solid, the bridge and tailpiece are two big hunking pieces of hardware and there's nothing wrong with cast sealed tuners.
Riders on the Storm
I love the big fat neck, it just feels like you're holding a quality piece of wood in your hands. Bending strings of course with a Gibson scale length is a breeze. (although with the flimsy 009 set, it's easy to go overboard with this)
For the righthand, the Gotoh bridge is a comfortable resting point, no high up saddels piercing your skin here. Apart from the neck dive I mentioned earlier, it's a comfortable instrument to play.
Songs of the bird
I plugged the Stormbird in to a Marshall valvestate Halfstack and let loose. Clean, the bridge pickup sounded like it needed a plasma transfusion and it needed it QUICKLY. The Bridge pickup sounded shrill and had a noticably less output than the neck pickup. That neck pickup however was a real winner, seldom have I heard a P90 sound so sweet and blooming. I could do a very convincing Jazzbox impersionation on it. When combined, the two pickups also made for a very sweet sounding guitar. Okay, time for the dirty channel.
As soon as I pushed in the channel selector I reached for the volume control to turn it down because the bridge pickup just began to screech like a Pig about to be slaughtered and it wasn't even on moderate gain levels, fickling about with the controls on both the guitar and on the amp helped but not much. The neck pickup however was a delight, I could do those Dave Murray (Iron maiden player who favors the neck pickup for his solos) leads or turn down the gain and do Clapton's woman tone, this is how a P90 in the neck position of a guitar should sound.
To buy or not to buy?
To be honest I'm a bit torn about this guitar, it has a GREAT neck, it has an absolutley wonderful sounding neck pickup, it looks great and it plays like butter. But on the other hand you have this rather crudly routed pickguard, the too yellow looking sunburst, cheap looking plastic parts and a horrible Bridge pickup. I can't say if all Eastwood Stormbirds are like this but this particullar example didn't really leave me with a sense of awe. As a luthier and a repairman I can easily adress such issues but I'm not really that sure if a guitar in this price range will be worth it. Never the less, I love the way the Non-reverse Firebird looks and I'm glad that eastwood have brought the look of that guitar closer for my to obtain without my having to spend thousands of bucks on an original.
I asked the guy if he could order me one in white. "No problem" he said "But it'll take around eight weeks to arrive"
Would be a nice addition to my white strat I recon.
but in the end I'm still not quite convinced that I should get myself one.

Remember when music was scary?
I just got to thinking, anyone else remember when hard rock and metal had children believing their souls would burn for an eternity as a consequence of listening? This was spurred on by the fact that I just heard Mustaine went cukoo for christianity,it got me thinking of the time I spent in youth group dissecting the lyrics to "Hotel California" and reading books about the inconceivable power behind the threat of Ronnie James DIO("Dio means god,so he must be claiming to be one")was the premise of the book, and of course the "MEGALIFE" Tshirts.
Maybe that's what is missing from modern heavy music. There is no "scare" there. People go to horror films because they can lose themselves in the story, when did rock music lose that? If you can relate to what I'm getting at here, I'd like to hear about it.
Quick question about the VK 412.

As far as I can make out, the cab is loaded with 16ohm speakers.
Now, would I be able to use this cab with another head running at 8 or 4 ohms?
Im looking to buy a used Randall some time this year, and as I don't really have the money for another cab + amp, it would be great if I could use this cab for more than just my VK.

Anyone familiar with Zoom B2, G2.1u, and cubase LE
So, when I play bass in small clubs with a good PA, I sometimes like to just bring my old Zoom 506 pedal and use the amp simulator and the house PA. I also run my bass wah and my MXR D.I.+ instead of lugging an amp.
I was thinking of upgrading the old Zoom pedal. I wouldn`t mind the B2.1u as it has a built in expression pedal, but I already have 2 offboard expression pedals already, so if the B2 and B2.1u are the same thing, I might opt for the B2 and use an offboard expression pedal.
I noticed that the G2.1u comes with cubase LE (I assume that means limited edition). Anyone have any experience with these pedals and the included version of cubase? Is the extra $60 - $70 worth it to have the expression pedal built into the unit?

YES NEW AMP!!!!!!
So I've been having some really weird, irritating problems with my current amp. After i play for more than about a half hour two of the four tubes go cold and it cuts to half volume. Being in an upstart band and just starting to gig I can't afford to have this happen during a gig. So, I mad the two hour trek down to Guitar Center and Sam Ash in Richmond. First i went to GC to survey the amps. I was extremely disappointed in both the selection and the prices. The only amp i was remotely interested in was a used Marshall JCM2000. I grabbed a guitar and cord and sat down to shred that baby only to find out it is missing a tube. No, not a blown tube, there is an empty space where a tube should be Is this lack of inspection typical for GC used products? Well, after the disappointment of GC i walked 100ft over to Sam Ash, praying it would be better. Thank God it was. They had a wonderful selection of amp heads, from Vox to Krank. I went in and played through everything in my price range and narrowed it down to three amps: Line 6 Spider Valve, Peavey 6505, and Peavey Triple XXX. I quickly eliminated the Spider, just way too confusing. The 6505 and the Triple XXX were harder to decide on. Eventually i chose the Triple XXX. The 6505 just wasn't giving me the tones i wanted.
AND NOW........
WITHOUT FURTHER ADO...........

Sorry for the low quality cellphone pics
years ago ( i think 2000 ) when I was in high school jaming with a band we put some of our stuff on mp3.com then it was only unsign bands who did all the work them selfs. Is that site still run that way? I can't make head or tails of it any more. I see these bands I never hear of before then theres black sabbath or brintey spears or slim shaddy. I see there is a link to sign up. Just wondering if any one here is still using it and how does it work for them?
i just noticed something in Walk.
be yourself, by yourself stay away from me.
listin to that part in the song, that guitar riff that hes doing, when dime and vinnie do the lil stop and go sorta deal, listin really really really close to the guitar. in 2 different types of speakers i heard something that sounds like a whammy pedal in the background
maybe it was already noticed but maybe it wasnt, what do yall think?
So I finally succumbed to it and bought one.
by Blazer on Mon Jan 05, 2009 3:15 am
Well to be honest with you guys I wasn't really into modelling amps and that hype that was surrounding the thing. But having used my Line 6 Toneport interface and Gearbox moddeling software has been a very helpful tool in me recording songs and demos for songs for my band.
Add to the fact that I saw a lot of Line 6 hardware being used in studios and on stage, I had to admit that the resulting sounds those people who were using them were getting also helped me into believing that the hype was based on solid evidence rather than just hot air on it being "The next big thing"
So when I went to the Musicstore in Cologne Germany last week, with every intention to buy myself a Gibson melody Maker and with enough money in my pocket to actually do so, I quickly got side tracked and instead decided to check out that jellybean shaped box of wonders that everybody is getting so crazy about. The POD.
And as luck would have it, they had a second hand example for sale. But not just any second hand POD, that particullar POD was one of THESE.
A POD mk2 in limited edition Chrome, for only 90 bucks. To make a long story short, 90 bucks later it was mine.
Today I took it to the band rehearsal and I was blown away by the sound I got when plugging it into the desk. It sounded so convincing that I had to make sure that I really wasn't playing the Marshall halfstack of the rehearsal room. The others were equally impressed, our sound guy said that this would make recording sessions for our first album so much easier, no miking needed, no need for bringing in different amps for different timbres.
The only naggles I have with the POD is that it takes away the interaction between guitar and amp, you can't let it howl in feedback like and amp does, and the tiny black letters on the Chromed surface are a bitch to read.
So I am planning to take my POD on the road and to use it as my back up should my amp die on me, it has proven itself a helpful tool and it gives me an opportunity to set some money aside to buy myself a fender tweed amp.
modding my strat (guitar pron added)
is it possible to put a humbucker in my strat that has single coils? would the pots be good enough? I know I would have to route out my strat and pick guard...

I saw Dino play last night.
by dj420 on Mon Jan 05, 2009 5:48 am
I saw Dino Cazares play with his current group "Asesino", It's very brutal mexican death metal, all the lyrics are in spanish. His playing was very creative and precise, He started the show playing 7 string then 1/2 into the set he busted out the 8 STRING?!?! they played about 2 hours of br00tal m3tal. Dino's playing was inspiring to say the least.

OK, So I thought I would try and help a few of you guys who are looking for photoshops. I have made a template of a ML shape that you can fully customise with Photoshop. All the layers are separate so all you need to do is just change the colour to what you want. All you need is Photoshop (or another program which will open PSD files) and your imagination.
I havent quite figured out where I can upload the file at the moment, but if you are interested just PM me with your email address and I will send it right over.
Here are a couple of examples of what this template can do. Both of these took me less than a minute with the template.

My 84 fender made it out, my acoustic is warped from massive water damage. and my squier got stolen the night after. and my x2n that I had ended up nothing more than a blob of plastic and wire.
I just thought i'd let everyone know. The best part is all of my family made it out and that is the best I could've wished for.

Custom Guitar makers?
by Toast on Mon Jan 05, 2009 5:39 pm
Hey I'm kinda looking for a good custom guitar builder to make a guitar exactly to my specifications without restrictions on making it look to close to another companys. I already know of Ran guitars but I wanna see some other options.
I know this thread is somewhere on here ,but I'm not going to dig for it ..But I'd like to see Dean put out a V with a floyd rose that is set neck instead of a bolt on.
I know this thread is somewhere on here ,but I'm not going to dig for it ..But I'd like to see Dean put out a V with a floyd rose that is set neck instead of a bolt on.
Well, this amp is pretty good. The cleans are nice, and boosting the overdrive, I get a nice chunk.
But, sadly, the hype WAS NOT worth it! This thing buzzes like a buzzard, and most noticably, pinch harmonics don't come through very well.
Even worse, the overdrive fails to be crunchy, without a boost. So, that would mean, hitting 3 pedals (Amp Pedal, OD, and Noise Gate) just to switch from Clean to Distortion. Now, that was ok when I was using a Line 6 I borrowed, for fun, BUT, I planned on gigging with this amp someday.
Perhaps, I will trade in my trusty Zakk Wylde Pedal, for a more suiting Distortion Pedal, that can acheive Metal Mania on the clean, instead of boosting. Of course, I'd much rather not, as I like the ZW OD for boosting!
Ahh, this is a tough desicion. Keep it, and not like it very much, and buy more stuff to try to diagnose it's illnesses? OR, return it for a full refund and return on the amp hunt? GAH, I HATE NOT HAVING A LOT OF MONEY!!!!!
Amen brothers, thank you for reading...
Anybody know the neck profile on the Dixie rebel?
Thanks

Stupid things you have done/seen at a guitar store
by Dooom on Tue Jan 06, 2009 1:39 am
What are some things you have seen/heard/done at a guitar store that made you cringe?
When I was testing my BCR Jr V at guitar center I was playing it with the volume really low, because I'm really shy and I fear being that stupid metalhead teenager playing with the volume at 11 that all guitar store employees fear. Anyways as I'm testing it my friend who I was with grabs a Schecter Hellraiser 7 string, puts it in drop A, and then starts tremolo picking power chords with the volume on 10 through a 75 watt line 6 spider.
how are fretboard radiuses measured? my jackson has a 12"-16" compound radius, but wtf does that mean? deans use a straight 16" right?
recommend me some songs in E flat!!
by _Jon on Tue Jan 06, 2009 3:12 am
Yes...
Need some more songs to play in E flat...I know a lot of pantera songs in E flat and some SRV and Slayer and stuff, but what else is there??
i love slide songs, hats off to roy harper, in my time of dying, and the catch hell blues.
what is the difference between the materials a slide is made of?
i know the sound, but could somebody please elaborate?
glass

Hey guys, I've recently been playing Drop C on my soltero, but it seems to come out if tune frequently and the strings feel a bit floppy. What gauge strings do you think I should get?
Also, can anyone recommend any good songs for drop C? I already play alot of Children of Bodom, As I lay Dying, and Killswitch Engage.
Quick car related question
Ive just got my first car (woooooooooooooo!!!) and I was wanting to put a pic of it up on my facebook, but I was wondering if I should blank my plates out before I do? Im a noob so I dunno why people do it but obviously they do it for a reason, so should I do it to? And can anyone tell me why people actually do do it?
btw just so this is guitar related, ive gotta say this car has killed any chance of me buying a new set of emgs for my ML...
OFR on a DFH?
by Spite on Tue Jan 06, 2009 6:12 pm
Will an original floyd rose, made by schaller fit the DFH?
Would prefer not to do anything to the body at all.
Thanks in advance.
Vox ac50 classic plus head
I am looking at getting a new head, and had this one recomended to me. i did some research on the google, yes THE google, last night and found some really good reviews, and some mixed reviews. i looked for some clips and couldn't find very much on youtube. there was one guys demo, but he was playing a semi hollow and mostly chords. the clean channel on this amp sounds phenomenal from that review, but i cant seem to find a decent clip of the gain settings. i was wondering if anyone out there has had a chance to spend some time with this amp, ad what htey think of it.
I would go try this out myself but there aren't any that are within a reasonable distance for me to try out. I will be getting it through a local dealer when the time comes if i order it, so if i get it and dont like it returning it shouldn't be a big problem.
Most and least used pedal
Does anyone know of a website that i can to on my ipod touch and download songs straight to my ipod? My labtop got the blue screen of death!
And to make this guitar related: for people with 2 or more pedals ( not including tuners ) whats your most used and least used pedal?
Most- boss super chorus. Its always on clean or dirty
Least- dunlop crybaby from hell, i dont know how to use it to its full potential yet
Been thinking about offloading my FBD for awhile now. Love the way it plays, but I'm kind of over the whole Dime thing, and having a floyd isn't really a priority anymore. Plus, I'm a skinny dude and it looks massive on me.
Been jonesing for a hardtail for awhile but after seeing some white soltero standards I might have to bite the bullet since it should end up being an even trade pricewise.
So heres the question. Playability wise what am I looking at? I'm gonna try and get my hands on one to test out, but what should I expect? I love the way my FBD's neck plays, so how much difference is there gonna be? Also, how much of a difference am I gonna notice tonewise?
I'm playing straight into a crate 2x12 for small college parties and stuff so I don't need anything ridiculously good sounding, I just don't want to take a loss in playability/sound. Thanks in advance.
Can you leave a furman power conditioner on 24/7?
Title says it all..., I just repaired my home pc (needed a new power supply), and it just so happens that my computer is about 10 feet away from my furman power conditioner which I use to run my amp and effects right now. I shu_t the furman down when I'm thru playing my rig.
I'm considering plugging my pc, printer, my wife's laptop, etc..., into the furman, but that would require leaving it on all the time. Would the furman be good for this, or would it just heat up and burn out after a few months?!?
Hey Guys, I just recently moved into an apartment and my dreams of getting a big ass amp have been put on hold so all my recording will be done through my computer so, Should I cheap out and get say a Line6 POD Studio or save up and get like a Zoom G9.2tt or something?
I bought this from BRG Steve a few weeks ago as a Christmas present to myself. I was pleasantly surprised, to say the least. Please, be kind about my playing, but check out the guitar-a Turser JT139 thinline hollowbody. It's not bad at all! I'd like to get a Palomino, but what messes me up about those is how deep the body is. It's tough to go from a thin, solidbody electric to something that huge, but this is a good bit thinner and actually balances well, to boot. Sorry, no pics as yet, but I did try to do a little clip for youtube, so here it is:

Musicians you wish you could have seen?
by milje on Tue Jan 06, 2009 11:42 pm
Who do you wish you could have seen? Doesn't matter if they are just not touring anymore, or dead, or whatever. Who are the ones that got away?
For me, I'd have to go with Randy Rhoads, SRV, and Dime.
Right well I have these two Aria guitars that I got about 5 years back as a Christmas present. This was when I was still taking lessons (haven't had a lesson in like 3 years) and when I was living in Pennsylvania (thank god I escaped that hell-hole). I believe it is a MAC series (according to the headstock) and the serial number on the back is 0403C0213. The Aria website was of no help to me since all of the products pretty much resembled each other.
I believe Cliff Burton used an Aria bass back in the day but I'm not so sure on that, it may have been a rumor since I've only seen him use Rickenbacker's.
Was maybe looking to sell this to some beginner around where I live but I have no idea what I would price this at...
Here is some non-Dean pr0n.
It finally got here! My newest toy got here. The WT-460 got here. It is a Flying v style guitar for those who want to know. I will get pictures up on the weekend. I cant get to a camera until then so all i have right now is the review.
Ok, For a guitar that is only $160, WOW! It is amazing! The neck is a bit beafy but it isnt as beafy as my strat so it is easy to play. It sounds great too! Infact, It sounds as good as, if not better than my VMNTX. The only draw back is the bridge. Setting up a Floyd Rose is pain in the @$$! So far, this is an amazing guitar...Pics will come...
Well, I know its not much, but it sure beats paying 1500 or more for one
hey all just wanted to share this. its prob the coolest gibson sgs i live ever seen. 1 of a kind also.
Could I please get some help on deciding what pedals to use? I really don't want to go overboard on the spending, so I would like to know what midranged priced pedals are good that won't suck the beegeezus out of your tone.
Ok so im pretty sure im getting a Peavy Vyper 30 Watt, is their anything that can make me play through Two Amps at once
like maybe a pedal aside from the EQ Kerry King,or a patch cord that has to on one side and one on the other
Please Help im gonna have one for Clean then one for Gain/Dirty tones then switch through them
i was wondering if anyone could tell me how the clean channels are on the rev jr, 50 watter in particular, but on the regular rev pro would be nice to know as well. i know they have an excellent overdrive channel, but i would really like a versatile amp.
before i get the try one out for yourself comments, i know that this is the best way, but i am nowhere near anywhere that actually keeps rev jr's in stock and am a carless university student so a trip to a dealer a few hours away isn't happening.
any help would be much appreciated. i have hear and read through Bradworlds review thread several times, but that is of the regular rev jr, which lacks the EQ. very impressive review and recordings though.
I have watched a few youtube clips of them, but always take those with a grain of salt due to the fact that it is very possible to have other gear running in the loop, or infront of the amp, the guitar being used, etc etc. . i will obviously also be taking everything said here with a bit of subjectiveness, but there are a bunch of members whom i trust for some reason or another hahaha.

New Heaven and Hell Album!
Legendary BLACK SABBATH/HEAVEN AND HELL guitarist Tony Iommi has issued the following update:
"I have been so busy working on the new (Heaven And Hell) album!!! It's all going very well I'm pleased to say! We are hoping for the album to be released some time in March/April. Just to let everyone know I appreciate all your messages, comments and all your support."
Heaven And Hell also features Ronnie James Dio (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass) and Vinny Appice (drums). Dio recently spoke to Revolver magazine about the upcoming album from Heaven And Hell. The group's first LP since Sabbath's Dehumanizer (1992) is being recorded at Rockfield studios in Wales, U.K. (where Dehumanizer was also tracked).
"It sounds great," Ronnie said of the self-produced set which he co-wrote with Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler during sessions in Los Angeles and England. "It's a real cross-section of everything we've done, from Heaven and Hell through Mob Rules and Dehumanizer. I think there's a lot of Dehumanizer in it, but a lot of other things, too, a real good blend of what this band has represented."
Heaven And Hell has scheduled the following European tour dates:
May
30 - Moscow, Russia - B1 Maximum
31 - Moscow, Russia - B1 Maximum
June
2 - Helsinki, Finland - Icehall
3-6 - Sölvesborg, Sweden - Sweden Rock
4 - Oslo, Norway - Spektrum
8 - Gießen, Germany - Hessenhallen
9 - Berlin, Germany - Zitadelle
10 - Bamberg, Germany - Jako-Arena
13 - Burgum, Netherlands - Waldrock
14 - Karlsruhe, Germany - Europahalle
16 - Bonn, Germany - Museumsmeile
19-21 - Clisson, France - Hellfest
More shows will be announced soon.
Two years ago, Dio, Iommi, Butler and Appice reunited to record a trio of new songs for Rhino's Black Sabbath: The Dio Years before launching a highly anticipated and greatly acclaimed world tour under their new moniker Heaven And Hell. Revitalized by the reunion, the lineup is back in the studio now recording the first-ever full-length studio album from Heaven And Hell. To whet the fans' appetites for the new album, Heaven And Hell returned to the road this past summer for a short stint on the Metal Masters Tour, a month-long North American trek with JUDAS PRIEST, MOTÖRHEAD, and TESTAMENT.
Regarding the band's decision to continue to operate as Heaven And Hell rather than Black Sabbath, Iommi told Billboard.com earlier this year, "It really is Black Sabbath, whatever we do. We just choose to go out as Heaven And Hell so everyone knows what they're getting [and] so people won't expect to hear 'Iron Man' and all those songs. We've done them for so many years, it's nice to do just all the stuff with did with Ronnie again."
I couldn't resist it any longer! Just pulled the trigger on this one:

Now to sell off my other guitars... pics when it arrives! I'm excited.
so i watched their complete masterworks show (i think it was on comedy central) anyway at the end in the special thanks, they thank Foo Fighters. i was just wondering what does the D and Foo Fighters have in common? i know that jack black did the song "I Am the Warlock" as a hidden track on the probot album, but what did they have to do with the show?
This seems to be a trend... Amp suggestions?
I'm just kind of looking for some suggestions... My amps now are stupid loud and don't have master volume. Here are my guidelines:
-Must be tube
-Master volume so I can crank the power section a little without killing my hearing.
-Wattage doesn't really matter as long as it can be tamed... So I would say the 30-100W range isn't bad AS LONG AS IT CAN BE TAMED.
-6L6 or EL34 doesn't matter, really. I've always seen myself as an EL34 kind of guy and still haven't owned an EL34 amp because the 6L6 amps I have sound awesome.
-Two channels preferably, I actually think I want a clean channel. I want a decent amount of distortion... Think Marshall with an OD up front. Not like metal heavy. JUST enough to get a decent chug and harmonics out of. Kind of like Tool or The Melvins.
-Must react well with the volume knob on my guitar.
-New or used, doesn't matter.
-I <3 Mids... So I like a good mid response.
-I usually go for a more Marshally flavor
I'm not really looking for anything like a Valveking or anything like that... I normally play an old Peavey VTM60 or an old Fender Bassman that I bought from deanmaniac. Both EXCELLENT amps, but I will see myself using these for larger venues and studio work.
So for price range, I'd say I'd like to keep it around $1500.

My Problem with Cubase LE4
by Graunke on Wed Jan 07, 2009 10:20 pm
When I record something, there is alot of string noise when I'm not playing, so I want to cut that part out of the track.
Now, I've figured out how to get into a track, and highlight sections of it, but when I choose "delete" or "cut" it slides the rest of the track back, throwing it all off time.
Any suggestions?
And don't suggest a different recording program, because I don't have the money or the patience to switch right now.
good neck pickup to pair with a Dimarzio X2N?
just what the title says... i'd like it to be another Dimarzio.

Missing COA rant...
by clmazza7 on Wed Jan 07, 2009 11:42 pm
What is it with people losing or misplacing COA's?
It just adds a level of suspicion to the overall transaction when these guitars go up for sale IMHO.
I've recently come across two different guitars for sale both missing their respective COA's?
When questioned, they always seem to have a song and dance about misplacing it or replying "dude, my dog ate it" etc...
So what gives? Is this a new phenomenon or are people simply less fanatical than I am
A funny thing about both of the guitars I mentioned above.... the owners claim to have all case candy, hang tags etc... but the one most important piece of documentation, THE COA, is missing!!!
Reaches for another Heineken...

Just curious....
NOGD / new project / painful
NOGD = new old guitar day ..... I recently got back a guitar that I built/resurrected a few years ago.
I had taken a swamp ash body that was in the style of a Randy Rhoads V , attached a 24 fret Charvel neck that I had saved. The headstock had been broken at the b string tuner hole and needed a repair. I stained the ash see thru black , applied a few Rhoads graphics , and clear coated it. A simple setup with a Gotoh 'bucker , wrap-around bridge and single volume knob made it a snap to complete.
I was pretty happy with it , it wasn't perfect , but neither am I .
Well - time went by , I was moving cross-country and couldn't take more than 6 guitars. I had no case for this one , so I gave it to my nephew .
9 months later , he's moving , and can't take it with him. I offer to pay the shipping to have it shipped to me and he says sure.
It comes in and what do I find ?? He had stripped the pics off , removed the clear coat , and painted it Purple with sparkles in the clear coat !!!??!!??!!
WTFFBM??
So , here I am - New old guitar day. Painful to look at . Facing a new project. - Here's some pron.
What do you think ? Should I beat him ?
Just to let everyone know that I used to be Leatherneck so keep hollerin at me as usual.
pickup to go with a pearly gates
I just put a seymour duncan pearly gates pickup in the bridge position of my V79 and want some suggestions of good neck pickups. I'm looking for something that will sound really nice on both clean and distortion and also will cost less than 100$
I've spent the past few hours playing with my new Waves iGTR. It's a little portable headphone amp, like a modern version of a Rockman.
It works basically like a Rockman - you plug in your guitar and listen via headphones. It's more versatile because you can the FX, gain, and there are 3 EQ settings. There is also an AUX in, so you can mix a background track in for practicing.
The bad -
The distortion sucks. It's buzzy and lame.
Even on 'warm' setting, it's still a little bright sounding.
The reverb is ringy and poor quality on high settings.
The Good -
Clean tones are very good
Reverb and chorus (at 75% or less) sounds nice
Will easily fit in a guitar case
Overall impressions -
At $48 this is a decent deal. I want a battery-powered headphone amp for practicing in hotel rooms on the road. This will suit this purpose.
vid Agile 7 string (white)
I know some of you guys have talked about this before, (and if i'm not mistaken one of you has one)
But heres a vid of someone playing the 7 string Agile V hornet if anybody is interested.

OK, lemme start by saying, the current bridge pickup in my guitar doesn't have enough output for my style of music. The pickup is a Pearly Gates. My question is are there any Duncans that sound similar, but have more output, yet still sound good when split?
NEW GUTIAR DAY (NDC) and its pretty big, warning.

I know i suck and all but...
I recorded another cover video anyway.
mind you this is the second song ive ever tried to learn and yes, its been that long since ive had time to even dedicate that much time to it.
I know its an easy song as well and some of you will poke your eardrums out. Yes i cheat on the first intro verse. I can't make my hands do that riff yet. So yes, im aware i mess up some stuff here and there.
but i still had a blast making it. i learn a lot about my playing from watching myself online.

Question about a specific kind of procedure.
by Spite on Thu Jan 08, 2009 7:56 pm
Okay, so about 5 years ago, I broke my left arm in a rally-go-cart like race.
I had a cast on it for 1½ mounths, but to make a long story short, afterwards I couldnt hold my left palm flat, like every other normal person.
The result of that, of course, that because of my left arm, I am limited to what I can perform on a fretboard.
I picked up a guitar half a year ago, well aware of what would eventually come around.
I need to get my arm "fixed", as in broken up again, and put back together correctly.
Have any of you tried this before, or know of a person going through the same?
Is it doable in most cases?
Im starting to get alittle afraid of having to be stuck where I'm currently at, or having to learn it all over with a lefty.
Also, sorry for the bad spelling and punktuation.
Was a bit tired and in a hurry.
Thank you.

Any ideas what model this is? Years of production? There are no serial numbers to be found. It has Seymour Duncan pickups (don't know itf they're original and the bridge and middle pickups have little switches on them that may be eq or effects. It has a case that also has the Dean logo on it. Thanks for any help.

I bought a seventies Japanese SG knock off for 30 bucks
by Blazer on Fri Jan 09, 2009 2:53 am
Here it is when I got it home.
And here it is after I cleaned it up and replaced the dodgy broken vibrato with a Functioning one.
It functions perfectly plays really nice, the pickups however don't sound that nice to me and I'll probably swap them soon.
So, I picked up a couple of Agile Guitars. Heard a lot of good things about them and was curious after they released a model that really appealed to me. I have to say, I'm completely blown away. I sold my 7-string Dean Razor to help fund these and I'm really glad I did.
Got a new Dean Dime-O-Flame
I just got my new Dean Dime-O-Flame and all I can say is R.I.P Dime. This guitar is so awesome I can not describe it. It has some of the best metal tones and the neck is amazing. This guitar is a preservation of Dime.

I bought some new gear for Christmas and finished installing it couple of weeks ago in my band's jamming room.
Here are some shitty pics took with my phone.
I got the geetar last Feb, the Head and Cab are new from this Christmas. ENGL FIREBALL WITH ENGL VINTAGE CAB (4x12)
Boss Volume Control Pedal + Dunlop MXR Smart Gate
My Engl stack sounds like the Devil. Its crazy.
Does anyone know where i can get a brand new Washburn 332 etc style soft case that can be shipped or brought in NZ? Im stuggling to find anything and i kinda need to get one soon because of school etc starting back up. Or is there another brand that makes a soft case which will take it? Hopefully it could take my ML as well...
Any thoughts?

i spotted a solid white Dean Z on the used wall at Guitar Center. seeing the matching headstock, i assumed it was one of the "XP" ones, but decided to take a closer look anyway. i was pleased to see that i was wrong. it was a nice looking set-neck model. the neck seemed a little thicker than most Deans ive played, but it still played nice despite needing a good setup. if i had a spare $400, i probably would have bought it.
so im just curious to see what model it was... sound familiar to anyone?

..that the amott sig will have a really big ugly v-plate on it?
Here in about 2 or 3 weeks (once I get my income tax return) i wanna get myself a DFH. I not looking for one in immaculate condition, but nothing major wrong with it. Anything with chips, scratches, buckle rash is fine with me. So if any of you guys are thinking about selling yours in the next couple of weeks, if you could keep me in mind, i'd really appreciate it. I'm looking to spend anywhere between $400-$600. Thanks alot.
I probably should of put this in the trading post.

$200 play your real guitar on a GH style game.
looks like the dude has some kind of pickup on the N4 there, and the colored strings are interesting.. wonder if that's for helping with the game or if the pickup is some kind of optical ghazmo.
Interesting to see how this one develops.

I sent my Cadi Select Tiger Eye on a journey, and recvd a Silverburst Epi LP Custom in silverburst w/EMG81, 85.
So far, I love it! i haven't plugget it in to anything yet, since I'm at work, and my boss frowns on me bringing an amplifier to my office. I'm going to give it a thorough cleaning and setup this weekend, and Pron will be posted when I get home this evening.
In the mean time, please enjoy this picture of a rabbit with a pancake on it's head.
Im getting one of the 2009 DOAs and the pickups are still unannounced. Ive seen the Nostalgia mentioned as a possibility and see where that it used on the Trivium models too. I dont think there is a soundclip for that one.. How does it sound?
Since we are talking pups, the clip of the time capsules sounds real good! who uses those??
Also like the Baker Act and Hands Without Shadows pups.
HELP! Spring Claw Screw Problem!!
Hey everyone,
I decided today that I would re-tune and at the same time level my Floyd on my Razorback, so I go about taking the tremolo cavity cover off, and all the processes.
As I was starting to adjust the spring claw screws, I notice that I'm having to put so much effort into turning the screw on the right, and I also noticed that it was stripped unlike the left one which could be turned easily.
I am wondering... is this a build problem where the hole for this screw hasn't been drilled properly? Or does it have anything to do with the technicalitites of a Floyd, if anyone needs more detail I will be more than happy to say.
Please help me, this is my main guitar and I have no other "working" guitar to play on.
Thanks.
My band's show tonight!! (Tucson, AZ)
SUH-WEEEEET!!! Should be one hell of a good night!! If there are any Tucson people on the forum, get your asses HERE TONIGHT!!!
How to tell a speaker cable from a guitar cable
Hey guys, is there any way to tell a speaker cable from a guitar cable?
I found a cable lying around today and I'm not sure which it is. It doesn't screw open so I can't check the wires in it either
If it helps, there's:
RJS ELEC-AWG18-41/0.16-0.824mm-6.0mm-RoHS written on the side of the cable.
Cheers!
NAD GLORIOUS NAD! MO HAR HAR HAR!!!!
Sooooo, I walk in from school this afternoon, kick open my bedroom door and I'm immediatley confronted by this.
Yep, it's a box. Intriguing no?
Hmm, I wonder who this is for?
Well, it has my name and address on it....
Ohhh, a Marshall box! I wonder what's in it!!
Can't hurt to take a tiny peek can it?
Nnnnngh. Nnnnnngh. These staples are strong. The trademark of a good British valve amp box!
Fu ck me pink! It's a DSL!!!!
Let me be the first to say....
FU CK YEAHHHHHHHHH!
Unfortunatley I haven't yet fired it up
Still waiting on the green light on that speaker cable, but as soon as it's going I'll post a review here and well as soundclips if I can manage to get my dick out of the input jack

Tune-o-Matic bridge with string through body
EMG HZ Humbucker pickups for reduced noise.

It looks like a great buy but..... It makes me wonder
with all the features it has I would think it would be at least a $300 guitar. Why so cheap?
Does anyone know anything about this brand Douglas?
After reading some threads about people modifing there guitars it kinda makes me wanna mess around with my ic400.
Anyone got any ideas? Im thinkin ethier like see thru red or white or somethin. Maybe even adding a middle pickupu
I played an amazing acoustic today. It was the Exotica Acoustic Ash. It had a great finish and playability.
Does anyone have one of these? I'm really considering one.
It makes my armadillo get excited.

Energy consumption of active pickups.
When do active pickups use up energy? When the guitar is plugged in and the amp is on? or does the guitar just need to be plugged in to use up energy. if so, i need to stop leaving the plug in my guitar
5 Most Important Guitarists in Rock?
I hate arbitrary best of/worst of lists. I think the kind of people that come up with those lists are all a bunch of pretentious attention seeking pricks. That said, I couldn't sleep the other night and laid in bed thinking about the most important guitarists in the history of rock, guys who shaped guitar driven rock music as we know it. And then I would write out a list to post on this forum, nodding to the status quo and offering no real insight. This isn't in any particular order...
Eddie Van Halen. He changed the way guitars were played, the way they sounded, the way they were built, and even the way amps were built for a whole era of guitarists. He also had top hits spanning three decades. I don't think his significance can be overstated.
Jimi Hendrix. 40 years later people are still measured by what this guy did with the electric guitar. Like EVH ten years later, Jimi must have sounded like he came from another planet when he debuted.
Eric Clapton. Arguably the first rock guitar god and helped inspire the movement of guitar virtuosity in the late '60's.
Tony Iommi. Inventor of heavy metal, one of the most enduring genres in rock, and one of the greatest riff masters of all time.
Jimmy Page. Sloppy or not, he was the guitarist and driving force in the biggest and most influential guitar driven rock band of all time.
I thought about Chuck Berry, but as great as he was for his time, I think the five I already mentioned had a more significant impact on rock music as we know it. Then again, how the hell do you measure something like that? I don't know, but I guess I just did.
This amp is pretty nice.
I'm having some screaming feedback problems but one with the gain past 7 on the boost channel.
I figured i'd be able to use all the gain but guess not.
it's a loud constant high pitched screach/hum that i can't get rid of with my decimator when the gain is past 6 or 7 or level is past 5.
I was told my tubes were feeding back.
there are electro harmonix 12ax7 and i have a groove tube 12at7 in the power section.
I tried replacing all the tubes with new solvtek but that didn't do much so back those go.
It's my first amp with tubes, so my expectations wer too high, it's not really the tone i want, but i still have some fooling.
so far i have these settings.
bass 5
middle 6-7
mid sweep 3
treble 8
density 5
presence 8
then i run too eqs in the series loop with barely scooped mid which really brings it back out to even since i have mids on the amp up.
but this smooths it out.
Any ideas on how to get more distortion out of this amp,
I'm thinking i just don't like the amp, don't know yet.

Quick easy question about cable length.
Today i went and wanted to buy a 21 foot monster calbe straight to angle. but they only had the 30 foot, so i got the 30 foot.
I have heard longer cables can start to effect your tone.
i'm going to have a 21 and 30 foot cable for my send and return in my loop and a 21 and 21 up front.
is this too much cable, i was told it's okay
I just recently started caring about how my wah works, and I only have the crybaby with no special things. It's the one that doesn't say anything but "crybaby" on the front. How is the CB from hell different/better that mine?

Epi So Cal 50 vs Peavey Windsor
by Graunke on Sat Jan 10, 2009 8:15 pm
These two amps are aroud the same price range it seems. If this was all you could afford, which would you pick and why?
They will be running into a Marshall 1960B. If that makes a difference.
solid state vs solid state.
randall x2 vs isp theta
everyone knows that the randall x2's tone is fantastic(for solid state). very unique. monster, chainsaw tone. nice loop you can engage to make it even more insane. great parametic mid with lots of sweep. the only qualm i have is the single set of eq controls for both clean and od/fry. and they are kinda quirky...sometimes they are solid, sometimes they break. and wtf is up with the yellow sticker? why would anyone sell an amp warning not to turn the gain all the way up?
the isp theta was SUPPOSED to be the king of the solid state amps. lots of functions. you can add a pre-amp to the amp channel, making even more gain. 140 db of gain, according to the spec sheet. all tamed with dual decimaters. sweepable mids on both channels. an include a solo boost and digital reverb, all accessable by the footswitch. but none of that matters for $HIT if the tone sucks balls. i have to admit, this is a tweekers head, and i have not spent too much time with it. but so far,i am dissapointed.
verdict? isp is better off just making the decimater and vector guitar sub. the theta head dies a quick death.
tube on tube mud wrestling!!!
engl powerball vs laboga mr.hector.
o'k,i am not even going to debate this one. and you all knew it was coming. as far as features, there is no comparison. both have a great tone. but there is no chance of a fair fight here.
verdict? the laboga mr.hector decides to forfeit the fight, cowering in it's corner. the engl say "screw this,i'ma gonna kick your a$$" and runs across the ring and beats mr.hector like it owes him money.
so i'm in the market for a good strap, preferably all leather, i've been browsin the net and found some as expensive as $75 to $150. now i'm not lookin to spend much more than $20 on this, but if the strap is real nice i might spend up to $40. what do you guys use, suggestions?
NGD!(With pron this time)
I already told you guys that I got my new guitar on Tuesday but I couldnt get pics up until now. Here they are:
The new guitar(Douglas WT-460):
I want to put updated pics of my other guitars on here too.
Dean Dave Mustaine VMNTX:
My modded Strat:
All of my gear together(guitars, amp, pedals, etc.):
With the last picture, I am getting a new amp for my birthday so that one is only temporary. Onto the review, For how much this guitar is, it is pretty amazing. It plays really well. The only draw back is setting up the Floyd on it. The Floyd is an LFR. I wasnt using the locking nuts right the first day so when I used the LFR it came horribly untuned. I fixed it now. If all you are on a budget for a guitar then get this. It is amazing.
Squel, with daisy chain power in loop and front
Ok.
So i found out what caused the squel in my Randall T2
it was because i power my pedals with one 9v ac daisy chained off my boss tuner, and i powered the pedals in the front of the head and in the effects loop this way.
well apparently you can't do that with this head, the pedals in the front and the effects loop have to be powered separately.
Has ANYONE heard of this problem before?
I had to go through my entire rig to find that this was the problem, it took 2 hours of trying every cable/pedal/comboniation indvidualy.
Now the amp just has normal noise with high gain, which is the loud crowd shhhhhh noise, and giutar feedback if too close to the amp or up to loud. The decimator controls both of these.
ANOTHER problem, the deimator creates more shhhhh when hooked up in the front of the head, rather than the loop, i thought this was odd, but must just be incompatible there.
ANY THOUGHTS on either one of these issues?

I'm no shredder so don't rip on my chops..... but it's got some pretty cool all-in-one features which let me dump alot of my old recording gear..... say good by to my old mixing board, my old analog 8 track, my piles of patch chords.... it even burns my cd's...
Here's a little smooth jazzzz improv ontop of a roland band.....
Also has some crap I'll never use..... the mic input effects has darth vader sounds and alien sounds......
Track is with a 69 strat.... straight into the unit with the included effects.........

So, anyone here a fan of this guy?
I was watching something on BBC4 last night, and this guy was on playing a track called "Brute force and Ignorance"... I was impressed to say the least.

My first electric guitar. A Hondo Explorer. Thing was a beast. 2 inches thick, probably plywood, neck like a baseball bat cut in half. I called it 'The Monster' because it weighed like 15 lbs. Had an alright tone until I started upgrading my amp. The thing sounded like complete ass. I put new pickups in it, a new neck, new pots. It just wouldn't sound good. Terrible terrible guitar. I wish I still had it because at this point it'd be fun to mess around with because I know more about guitars in general.
Here we have the Aria Pro II that I've rambled on about on here a few times. Good guitar. GREAT neck and action. Decent pick ups. Good Sabbath Bloody Sabbath type sound. Had a Floyd on it, not routed out. Bad wiring caused the damn thing to shock you if you let your arm touch the bridge though. I gave it to a friend and it electrocuted him so he smashed it. Dip s#%t.

Suspicious E-mail Warning
Hello,
I recently received an e-mail from deannewstream@gmail.com with a subject saying something along the lines of Dean Guitars taking live webcast to the next level.
I'm not sure if this is real or not, but I just wanted to put out the warning to everyone here because my system marked it as suspicious and as a phishing scam.

My bro's band got signed!
My friend Jason's band got signed by Nikki Sixx's label and are going to be releasing their new album very soon. Jason is the drummer. I hope to see big things for them. He is currently driving a hearse for a funeral home and dressing bodies for the funerals. I am sure he will be happy to get out of that job lol.

Tough Amp Desision, Peavey VS..... Bugera?
Ok, so most know my Randall turned out to be a load of honky.
Now, I don't want to make the same mistake twice, so I really need to think on this one. I've done research on the 1st Gen Peavey 5150, and the new Bugera 6262 Combo. Both have that nice warm tone, but there are cons to both.
Pros of 5150:
High gain - it's a Peavey!
It's a true Peavey.
Easy EVH tone.
Cleans sound pretty good in sound clips.
It has a 212 setup.
Pros of 6262:
High gain - it's based off of the 6505/+ as I've come to hear.
EVH Tone can come easily, with the right settings.
Cleans sound AWESOME!
Sound is nice and warm.
It has a 212 setup.
Cons of 5150:
It weighs 96 pounds! Holy s#%t!!!
Non-footswitchable Clean/Crunch switch.
Cons of 6262:
Supposed to be unreliable. It's indeed a hit-or-miss amp.
Tough desision. I'm open to more amps, Marshall DSL was on my list until some people talked me out of it. It's still a possibility though, since it sounds GREAT with an OD in front.
Peavey is pretty high on my list. Good gain, very reliable. I'm not such a huge fan of VK though, I'm going to try another one at the store soon, but please don't try to reccomend it.
Thanks guys!
Who do you think is the most underrated guitarist ever ?
O.K. - seen a couple of threads in this vein : Greatest ever , who bugs you the most , etc. .
I've got a different type to add --
Who do you think is/ was the most under-rated guitarist .
You know - that guy ( or gal )that could shred , part of a band that sold lots of cds ,we've all heard of them, you just don't see him/her getting the proper credit like ever.
My vote goes to Rocky George from Suicidal Tendencies. That guy was incredible to watch play. His solos are insane ! but you never hear of him .
Who is your favorite 'Un-sung Hero' ?

Best guitar DI Box around?
My band's going to be going back into the studio this march to re-record our 4 songs that we'd done in October, and in order to save time and money, we're going to be recording the guitars and basses at home onto garageband or cubase and have them re-amped in the studio.
For this purpose obviously I'm going to have to get a quality DI-Box in so I can record the flat signals to then have reamped in the studio.
What I own at the moment is a Line 6 Toneport which I don't think provides DI capabilities, I'm not sure.
So I'm wondering whether you chaps on here know which would be the most cost effective DI Box to record with?
Should I try EMG w/ my Dean from hell?
Any idea how this might sound or improve my sound? Thanks in advance!
Hey guys,
I'm off tomorrow to get some new strings for my LP, which from now on is gonna be kept tuned in Eb. Generally I've always just played standard 9-42's, but I'm open to trying something a bit heavier for the lower tuning.
Any suggestions as to string make and gauge?

Good mp3 editing program?
I'm looking to see if anyone uses, or can recommend a good program that I can edit mp3's with. (or iTunes aac). I'd like to be able to take a song, and "cut it up" and save it as a new file. Like lets say I wanted the chorus only of a song as an audio file. I'm thinking I could use it to play a part over and over while learning a song, or even use them as ringtones on my phone
Another cheap banger has folowed me home.
by Blazer on Mon Jan 12, 2009 12:01 am
I got this seventies Harmony strat copy from a friend for 10 bucks, It had been in his collection of a very long time and took off all of what was usuable from it and wanted to throw the body and neck away.
I asked him how much he wanted to have for it and he went "A tenner or else I'll bin them." So I took them home and went through my box of stuff and performed my magic.
The guitar has some issues, the plywood body had recieved many paintjobs and the latest (which, according to the guy I got it from, has been on it for over 20 years) is flaked and chipped which actually makes it look really cool. The Neck has a very bad bow and a broken trussrod, so I strung it up with heavy flatwound strings and tuned it in open E so I can use it for slide.
I never heard of this dude, hes got some cool 8 finger tapping tho

So I'm buying my first Dean soon, and until today I was sure about the Black Gold ML shaped. But I realized that I would like to have some money left after I buy my new guitar... The Black Gold would take all my money, 700 €... So I would like something cheaper, but almost as good as that one.. 79's any good? They're almost half the price and would help me a lot!
Well I went for it and here it is...

dean bass: ZBX or z metalman ???
I was searching something like a Ibanez destroyer x-series (db700/db800) , hamer scarab, aria pro II ZZB or a westone X400
But these are really expensive and to ship them to Europe its way to much!!!
Then i tought about Dean's: they still make that kind of bass and they aren't rear, expensive, bad looking, …
conclusion: I gona buy a dean metalman z or a zbx, but I really don't know what one!
Could anybody who plays these basses give me some info? thanks in advance !!!
Red Bear 'Tortis' guitar picks
I got a couple of Red Bear 'Tortis' picks in the mail the other day. These are made of some protein based compound that is supposed to be very similar to tortoise shell.
Each pick costs $20. If you think $20 is too much to spend for a pick, I get it. Don't read any further. I don't want this thread littered with 'You are an idiot for spending $20 an a pick' messages.
The pick is dense with little to no flex. It's got a slick surface but still grips to your finger. There is a bevel on the edge and it's very smooth. The tone is very bright with a crisp sharp attack. It's got the tone of a polished stone or metal pick, but with the feel of a standard celluloid pick.
If you're looking for a Billy Gibbons type tone (he uses a peso) but something a little less harsh on your strings, you may want to check out a Tortis.
Baby-V size and color.
by Rick540 on Tue Jan 13, 2009 8:34 pm
I wanna get a V shaped guitar. The problem is, I like the V shape but most of the V's I've seen are friggin GIGANTIC and too big for my tastes. After looking around some I came across the Dean Baby-V and think it might be what I'm looking for.
There's two problems though. The first one is that I have searched and searched but I can't find a picture of someone holding or playing one of these guitars. I know the Baby V is smaller than the typical V, but without a visual reference, it's hard to tell just how much smaller. Does anyone have a pic of someone holding or playing one of these? I'm a fairly big dude and don't wanna look like the Jolly Green Giant when I play it.
The second problem is that I'm not really digging the colors that are currently available for the Baby V. The titanium ice is decent, but I really want one in hot pink. The Sam Ash site has a picture of a hot pink one, but I contacted Dean and they said that pink has been discontinued. My next choice would probably be black, but one, I already have too many black guitars, and two, the black Baby V is actually powder black, and from what I've seen in pictures, it's really dull, and to me looks like a paint job someone did in their basement or something. The copper colored one is just plain fugly.
So, if anyone can help me get a visual reference on the size of these things, and help dig up a place that still has a pink one (new or a mint condition used one), that'd be awesome.
Thanks.

Best unsigned band you ever saw ??
The 'best of' threads seem to make for good folly , but best guitarist/worst guitarist seems to bring out the claws in people. ( myself included )
On that note I have another one :
Who is the best band you ever saw live that didn't make it anywhere?? Obviously , most of us won't know who you're talking about , so post links to their work if possible.
I figure if nothing else , this will help some of us hear some new music and maybe even find some bands out there a few new fans.
Feel free to nominate your band if applicable !
I vote for River Chicken as my fave. I think they're @ www.myspace.com/riverchicken
These guys put on a great show , played to a T , had no attitudes and even had a stuffed animal fight/mosh pit thing going on with the crowd. I'm talking hundreds of stuffed animals flying every which way while the band was playing. Funniest / coolest thing I ever saw at a show.
So - who's yours ?

Surprises are frackin awesome!
So there I am driving home from school today thinking how much I dislike Shitmonton and how I'd rather be in Ontario with my girlfriend when I pull in and check the mail. My man bassmantim sent me a surprise. We did a little trading a few weeks ago but I never expected what I got. When I can finally pry it out of my hands it will be displayed in a frame with one of my Dime pictures in my living room. This is the first real Pantera memorabilia I own. Needless to say it means a lot to me. Tim sent me a Pantara backstage pass from the CFH era. His daughter Anastasia even drew a picture of my favorite guitar for me. So cool. The picture reads "Dean from Hell, Getcha pull, Woo!"
Tim your teaching her well. Send her my tanks please. I can't even draw a straight line with a ruler. Tell her to keep up the good work.
Here's a few pictures of me with the DFH and my beloved backstage pass and artist rendition of my favorite Dime axe.
I'm in a grunge band and we are having crazy trouble coming up with a name. Any serious suggestions would be much appreciated

go to that and read the fact, i never knew that. is it true that he wears the name and number?
i always see phil with like, and eyehategod shirt or something
also, to keep this related, im gonna be getting a video of my playing Lifer by Down on my Dean up today sometime.
I was machinehead and metallica last night in detroit rock City.
Holy good lord!! metallica rocked that place. They were at the top of their game, and with a chemistry unlike i've ever seen from them before. They really seem to be loving every minute of their time with the fans.
Thank you Metallica!!
On a side note, sound quality wise, machinehead was a big ball of mudd, where metallica was defined through every note.
Best string gauge for Drop C tuning?
Im wanting to setup my Stealth in Drop C tuning, but im never sure which gauge strings are best to go for, so I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations? Ive seen one guy on youtube using 13 - 62 gauge for Standard C, would this gauge be good for drop C or would the lower strings be too tight? Im trying to find an alternative set with 62 on the thick end but im not having much luck.

Good News for Metallica Fans
by Bullet on Wed Jan 14, 2009 11:22 pm
Wow . . . what a great way to start off 2009! We are beyond proud to let you know that we will indeed be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in a ceremony held in Cleveland on April 4, 2009. As a refresher, it has to have been 25 years since your first record was released to be eligible and while it certainly doesn't feel like it's been that long, we hear that's the case!
Metallica.com
That is some amazing news right there.
ok..i was recording with my rp350 perfectly fine..then..all of a sudden i dont know if the USB cable came loose or what..but..there was just..this god aweful static noise. it came out of nowhere...now every time i plug the pedal into the computer then start up Cubase and select the driver that static happens...
im really confused and pissed off...

How to go about writing songs
I wanna start writing stuff but I dont have a clue where to begin, I dont really know any theory, I just learnt how to play guitar by learning tabs, are there any specific theory lessons I should look into which will help me when writing riffs and solos, etc?
Slipknot 1/23/09
by rridner on Thu Jan 15, 2009 12:45 am
Taking the boy to his 1st metal show - should be awesome. He doesn't know yet. I am thinking of a way to surprise him. I had mentioned possibly going months ago when the tour was 1st announced. I haven't seen Slipknot in at least 5yrs. He is gonna freak too! Not really looking forward to either supporting band though
Dean Baby V, ML, etc. - How are they?
I have an Epiphone "peewee" Les Paul that I bought because it was just cute. I actually like to mess around on it some, but the neck is scaled down and it's more of a novelty than much else. On acoustics, I have a Martin "Little Martin" that actually sounds huge - amazing sound quality from such a little thing and great to just take along when you don't have room for a full size guitar.
The Dean Baby guitars seem to have a full size neck? Is that accurate?
That being the case, I think I'd like to get one - they're certainly cheap enough.
Does anyone have experience with these? Are they worth it? How are the pickups? I don't expect the guitar to scream like a top notch expensive instrument, but for the price and all, are they playable guitars?
I'd appreciate any input. I don't mind one just to sit and look cool in the guitar room, but I'd like to think it is a good player also.
i need some recommendations on what to replace a crappy duncan designed pu in the bridge position with. i'm looking at either blackouts (AHB-2), EMG-81, or Mustaine Live Wires.
i listened to sound clips on duncan's website, but can i get some sound samples posted?
*Decision Made* Glorius New Amp Day! Huzzah!!
by Graunke on Thu Jan 15, 2009 3:00 am
So, I'm checking out two amps. My search is over. It's narrowed down.
A Carvin MTS 3200 Head. on E Bay for $389 Buy it Now
or
A Marshall JCM 900 Dual Reverb 100 watt for $650 from local Craigslist.
I've wanted another JCM 900 for like 10 years, since I got rid of my last one, but I'd have to put it on the credit card. Cause it's more than I can afford right now. The carvin is cheap, but I don't know if I'll dig it. Some reviews are good, some are bad. And the same can be said for the Marshall....
What do yous think?
Schenker's new.......thingy?
I wonder if we're going to see what's up Michael's sleeve at NAMM with this apparatus?

What gives in here lately?
by Graunke on Thu Jan 15, 2009 8:57 pm
So whats with the abundance of negative nancys in here lately. it seems like all of a sudden, every thread turns into a piss fest between a few of you. Whats the matter? did someone shove you into your locker today? Or knock all your books out of your hands?
As stated in another thread, yes everone is entitled to have an opinion, but just like a -holes, everyone doesn't need to see yours. It would be a good general rule of thumb that if you don't have something constructive, or you are just trying to be an ass, then don't.

I'm creating a new rig in a month and I know I will be using Hartke Gh412 cabinets, Rocktron velocity 150 poweramp, and either a Line 6 pod xt live with metalshop pack or a Digitech gnx 3 or 4 and a Digitech whammy. I get bored with my sound and like the flexablity of this Idea any suggestions?
Does anybody know what the engl warranty is? I can't find it anywhere.
Thanks to TXC123 for a fine deal on this lovely BC Rich Bich. It is a very nice guitar for an import. Neck thru body. Thick maple cap, with a quilted veneer on top. 3 piece neck. Mahogany body wings. Ebony board. It is really nice. After a thorough setup and neck adjustment, this geet plays really good too. It was way out of whack when I got it. But it setup really well.
The stock BCR pickups are actually a lot better than expected... but they dont wont be around too long anyway. The only reason I setup the guitar with the stock pickups is because I want to play this Bich at my gig tomorrow. This guitar is from the NJ Classic Series, made around 2005. Its too bad BCR doesnt make this specific model of the Bich and Mockingbird any more... they are really sweet. I will have to find a used Mockingbird next!

These were taken by a friend and I won't stand to have another thread of mine trashed by inconsiderate haters. The rest of you guys can (and I am sure will) have at it tomorrow when they go public. I don't know why a little respect can't be had here anymore, but as a member I personally don't have to put up with it.
I have to get up early so I only have a little while but anyone really interested in Dean Guitars let me know. Maple with black dots anyone?
I will FOR SURE be ordering a USA Dean this year... I can't wait for tomorrow!!!!!
So Metallica Inducted to Rock and Roll hall of fame..
I'm a fan so i thought it was pretty cool they got in on there first try just wondering what you guys thought??
So i've been wrestling with myself over what new amp I wanted, and after much deliberation, reached a decision. So I put the order in with my dealer, only to find out that that particular model had been discontinued, but I could get a fantastic deal on a similar amp. so I compared the reviews and clips that i had heard of it online, there are new dealers in my area that actually stock the particular amps that i was looking at, not becuase of their high price, but rather the fact that all the accesible dealers are in a small town, and would be hardpressed to sell these things if they got them in stock.
anyways, the amp i decided on was a Vox ac30cch and, i know what a lot of you are thinking, a vox?!?!?! what the hell is this guy thinking. I got this amp for it's clean tones, and let me tell you, some of the nicest cleans i've heard. It takes pedals incredibly well. i was jamming on it for a few hours and with my distortion stompbox i managed to get some awesome zakk wylde type tones, tweaked it a bit from there, and i could rock some Alice in Chains type stuff, in fact palying Would? through this set up was most excellent, actually went back and played it a few times hahahaha.
anyways on to the rundown. I am incredibly pleased with this amp, like i already said it has excellent clean tones, and the amp itself breaks up really well on the top boost channel and i can get some really good classic rock to stoner rock tones out of it. This head has 8 tubes, 4 EL84's, 3 12ax7, 1 gz34. all kinds of fun tweakable stuff to mess with. It is ideally a single channel amp, with multiple options, a normal channel, that is controlled with just a volume knob, and a top boost channel with a 2 band eq and a volume, both of these channels have switches to give them some more options. the EQ on the top boost channel is really responsive and can really change things up. anyways enough Nyquil induced rambling. heres some pics
ugly bugger aint it hahahaha.
but something about this just looks right to me
Just got back from seeing...
METALLICA!!!!!!!! Holy god it was incredible. It was a really good setlist, When I can copy and paste it I will. I will say that this was a childhood dream come true. I am still in disbelief that I finally saw Metallica. I am a happy motherf@#$% right now. Ah, I will never forget this show.
Namm 09 7 string?? Anyone get a pic?
So supposedly there is a super secret 7 string being unveiled at namm. If anyone can get me a shot of it you'd be my bestest friend forever. I have no clue what it looks like, hopefully superstrat body but i have no friggin clue.
paying opening acts
by tommygd on Fri Jan 16, 2009 8:39 am
Last night my band played a show with two opening acts (first time with the GTV as my main guitar!). One band we had played with many times before and one we hadn't. At the end of the show we paid the opening acts as normal. The band we hadn't played with before were amazed at the amount we gave them.
So my question is this... What amount is generally accepted as a decent % to pay the opening act? We had 168 paying people last night at £2 a ticket. If you were the support band what would you expect?
In my previous bands where we have had a manager or record company involved i didnt worry about money, that was all dealt with. Nowadays we do do gigs for free if the gig will allow us good exposure, but we usually ask for petrol to be covered. And we get a bit of cash at other gigs from the 'headline' bands when we open up for them.
Thanks in advance for your input.

How to buy USA DEAN ?

How do you go about getting a Dean made in the good ol' US of A ? Is there a huge difference between one made in Tampa and the average say, Dean Razorback V 255 that I can buy down the street for about 1100 new? Is there somewhere to get one or do you have to order straight from DEan? Thanx for the help ! Oh, and happy new year to all !

Recommend a guitar for my needs...
by Maucer on Fri Jan 16, 2009 6:25 pm
Hai thar'
I'm recently been looking for a new guitar to replace my ESP LTD EX-260. My budget is... somewhere beetween 400 and 750 € or 350-670 UK£ or 500-1000US$. I'm interested in some of the dean guitars such as the Vendetta 4 Floyd, but I cant find much info about it.
-A floyd rose type tremolo. Lincenced is okay if its good.
-Looks! Of course. But nothing "overdone".
-I play all kind of stuff from Avenged sevenfold to Jet, from all that remains to guns n' roses.
Also can you recommend me a good store from Europe, that ships to finland? I've used thomann before but I just saw a site from UK that sells for much cheaper than thomann (Must be the bad currency of £?). http://www.dv247.com/
Got any others? Unfortunately they don't stock deans : (
Thanks.

Can someone tell me if the Dimebonics ML, Razorback V 255 Blade and Razorback Slimebolt are USA models or imports. The reson im asking is because the have Original Foyds instead of licenced floyds which all dime imports have.
Yeah, so my dual DiMarzio Super Distortions came in 2 days ago.
I did not install them yet. My Dad is busy, and he says we're gonna do the installation on Monday.
Now, while I keep ya'll waiting on a review, I'd like to know something.
The Creme pre-existing mounting rings are slightly lighter then the pickups, and I think they'll look funky. I heard DiMarzio sells mounting rings, but I'd like to know where I can find them, as I think it'll look better, and be of higher quality then these Korean mounting rings.
Thanks dudes! Stay tuned till' Monday.

note: i'm a terrible player and recorder, but i think with these couple i'm starting to show some decent improvement. i could show some older clips to show how bad i was..

Anyway, does anyone know if they are going to start puting OFRs on their current Dime models. Personally im interested in getting a dean from hell in the next couple of months, mabey even a razorback explosion, does anyone know if all dime models are going to benifit from OFRs?
