After Leslie's performance last night, I was scanning youtube for some clips of him and found this sweet gem of him playing some blues with Joe Satriani. The really cool thing is watching Satch playing the Soltero!
Forgive me if this has already been posted, I did a quick search and couldn't find anything, so don't pimp slap me if it has already.

Just realized I haven't seen any posts from Trevor/lil' Heafy lately.
Had to check on a fellow forumite. Hope he's okay.
GCX Audio Switching System Questions
Hey guys. I'm pretty much an expert on how these units work and I've been getting a few questions from forumites on integrating with your rig and channel switching of amps. I'd like to answer all of those questions in this thread so fire away!
If you specifically want to know if the unit will switch channels on your amp, post a pic of the front and back of your amp and I'll tell you.
TEAR IT UP!

Hey guys, I have a question about the pre amp part beside the fx loop part on the back of my 6505 head. What is it for? I was thinking if im using a pre amp it will use the 6505 heads power tubes or something like that
Interesting story how i came up with this question, I was setting up my rig before a gig and plugged my bbe sonic maximiser into the pre amp instead of the other fx loop part, I turned the amp on and there was crazy noise and it was loud haha pretty stupid mistake to make.
Someones broken into my shed.....
..... But taken nothing at all, i had my bass rig and my Ibanez 7321, Toneblaster Head and my pedal board yet nothing was stolen,
this has well freaked me out
I put an EMG-SA, EMG-S, and an EMG-81TW in my Kramer plus made the bridge effectively a hard tail by blocking it. Dang this thing is sweet!
I just need an opinion or answer of some sorts. Do you guys ever just sit down and play along with the radio even if you dont know the song? If you dont know the song, do you still try and play along with it?
Mixerman second printing!

"the daily adventures of mixerman" got a second printing and is about to be re-released!
even if you don't like reading but do like music, i highly recommend this book. it's absolutely hilarious.
the free online version doesn't include the last section--you have to buy the book to get the whole story. unfortunately, the book has been out of print for years (and VERY few used copies ever go up for sale).
but the second printing is about to his shelves in a few weeks!

Picking up this bad boy on Tuesday. It will be my first "real refinish/restoration/repair" experiment.

The damage is next to nill from what I can tell. I'll get a closer inspection on Tues when I pick it up.
Can You Get A Metal Tone With...
low output humbuckers? Ive been doing some research and I like the way vintage alnico style pickups are so clear and have that singing lead tone. The only problem is that they are pretty low in terms of output. Can you still get some brutalz out of a pickup thats like 9 ohms played out of a high gain amp?
Given an offer I couldn't refuse

My ML is gone, and now I have now Dean...and no cash for a new one for quite some time.
I might hang around as this is pretty much the best forum on the net that I have found.
Not sure what to do about my DOA number...guess it could be retired?
Anywho...Just wanted to say that my ML WAS/IS an awesome guitar, but probably not the best thing to learn on. My new guitar (superstrat) works much better for me, and sounds quite similar. No, it doesn't matte rthe brand I got...I'll respect this a sa DEAN site. The ONLY reason I got rid of it was the shape was distracting, and hard to LEARN with.
Good luck to all...I'm off to change my sig LOL

March 2nd, 2008, Canadian guitarist, singer, Jeff Healey, died of cancer. Healey lost his sight to retinoblastoma, a rare cancer of the eyes when he was eight months old, resulting in his eyes being surgically removed. After living cancer-free for 38 years, he developed sarcoma in his legs. Despite surgery for this, the sarcoma spread to his lungs and ultimately was the cause of his death. Healey released over 12 albums, presented a long running radio show and worked with many artists including Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, BB King, ZZ Top, Steve Lukather, Eric Clapton and Ian Gillan.
I found a gorgeous Greco LP in a local guitar shop. Black, ebony fret board, gold hardware, real gibson pups; its AMAZING
have any of you guys owned Grecos? Is it worth trading my LTD al-600?
So I played a Peavey JSX...,
I gotta say, it lives up to it's reputation of being "versatile", it was actually impossible to get a bad sound out of the thing, 3 very usable channels, built in noise gate, the "fat" switches gave it some extra "umph" on the vintage and crunch channels. Good range of control on the eq knobs..., I gotta say, if I come across a used one at the right price, I may pick one up as it seems to be able to do alot.
I've also read that it takes pedals very well, but there is some compromise on that, as the clean channel is not up to snuff for some folks. Running it at 16 ohms, I would dare to say that this amp is able to perform at bedroom levels..., although the JSX was parked right beside the ENGL Blackmore that I had just played, so my perception may be off here. The Blackmore (dunno how many ohms it was running at) was so fcuking loud at volume 1, that the JSX seemed pretty timid at half volume running at 16 ohms. Obviously the JSX is capable of loud volumes at 120 watts, but I think it "could" do bedroom volumes to.
Hey guys whazzzzzup!!! just got the dunlop system 65 neck cradle, this thing is awesome. Holds the guitar solid while workin or cleaning. The base flips to hold the back of neck or to lay on strings and fretboard. Nice rubber pads on both sides to protect your guitar. About 30 bucks from musicians friend, highly recommend,i love it. bottom of base has rubber feet as well , doesnt move while your workin.pics comin right up
Tube amp FAQ
by nytan on Mon Mar 02, 2009 3:49 pm
Hey guys, I've been using combo tube amps for most of my life and I just bought a JCM 2000. I'm pretty clueless on how I'm supposed to match the impedance in the back so I figured I'd give a shout out to the gurus here.
What options do I have with regarding to ohm selection and how does it work? I'm going to be running the head through a 1960A slant cab so any info would be appreciated!

It's called 'Rebirth.'
I'm not sure how many of you care, but I do respect the guy. He's making hits all over the place, and I hear his name all over the place. As a rap artist, I can certainly say that he is one of, if not the best in the game today. So i'm not sure how many of you are hip hop fans (i'm not a big fan, but if the rapper can flow and I like the overall sound of the song, then I can dig it,) but i'm definately digging his new 'rock' song. It's not the style of rock/rap that i'm particularly fond of, but it's beyond catchy. It's been stuck in my head all day.

Important Issue: Ear Plugs
For the first 4 years of playing guitar and going out to shows I never once thought of getting earplugs. I was a REAL man a.k.a. "below 70 IQ type kid" who could just sleep off the pain of being in an extremely loud enviornment. Now Im 23 and have a ringing sound in my ears that will stay here the rest of my life. Its not life threating but it is just extremely annoying. Guys, be smart and wear earplugs when your playing loud and you wont have to worry about loosing your most important sense for playing guitar.
Ive always paid around 15-25 dollars for the high end earplugs at GC or Sam Ash. I lost that pair and luckily my bass player was able to get us a few free sets from where he works (hes a building engineer). What he brought us is a set of ear plugs that is about twice as clear sounding as the plugs from the music shop. I am so amazed by how these performed I looked them up and they are about a 5th of the price as the ones from the music store. Here is the link if you guys are interested. Be safe and rock on! \m,/

Son of Buddy Blaze dies at 31 ... new pics
by BRG on Mon Mar 02, 2009 11:37 pm
Everyone here at BRG wishes to extend our sincere condolences, prayers and sympathy to Buddy and Joyce Blaze.
Today, March 2, 2009 at 9:50 am their son, MATT BLAZE lost his battle with addiction. Matt was the father of Evan, namesake of the Blaze Evanator guitar. Matt was 31.
No parents could have given more than Joyce and Buddy gave to Matt. We know that their pain is great because their love was even greater.
Matt ...... we will miss you.
If any of you are in a bidding race for a certain vintage amp on eBay right now ending within the hour. STOP. IT'S MINE! I saw it first dammit! I will cry If I don't win. I can't say more out of fear of being sniped. Just stop it. LOL
How do they compare? I'm asking for opinions from people who own them, or have gotten to spend some good time with them. I've heard bad things about the Warbird, and am looking for some first-hand opinions.
Don't anyone post a link to google, I've tried.
ok, so i was looking at craigslist in town and found this:

any opinions? think its a good deal? anyone know how good this thing might be? im a little interested in it but not sure on if its a good type of guitar.
Preamp out -> Guitarport ?
I was wondering if I could do preamp out into my guitarport. I thought about hooking the head straight to the guitarport, but I don't think a DI box has any impedance?
Help me figure it out!
edit: and yes, i've googled. I haven't found much information on it. I don't want to fry my amp, so the more questions the safer I am.
I'm still a bit put aside that this forum has absolutely no focus whatsoever on Dean's acoustic guitars. There is not an "acoustic guitar" forum category, yet Dean DOES make some really solid acoustic guitars - I have a number of them! In addition, I have helped a number of young people select Dean guitars as their first guitar.
When I go to the major chain stores, such as Guitar Center, I'm surprised to find very little attention paid to Dean. How sad. Ibanez? Gimme a break, no offense. We have two large Guitar Center stores in Austin, Texas, and they have very few Dean guitars. A few (maybe 3 to pick from?) in the acoustic room... and then a few of the cheap China ones, electric.
I love electric and jam into my tube amp... I'm even building my Dean electric collection... but the acoustics are fantastic too. I hope to see more interest here in them.
Won't have pron till I go to pay the rest off this weekend, but it's mine ALL MINEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! Amazing!!!

Listening to Pandora radio (about the only thing that keeps me sane every night at work..... trying to deal with engineers.....). First, The Trooper cover with Lemmy singing, badass. Then, two Motorhead songs in a row.
Made my night.
Edit, another Iron Maiden song
It was a slow news day so I thought I'd gather up some of my stuff for a little pose.
Need some help with MXR Flanger Doubler USA to UK convert
Hey guys, I bought an MXR Flanger / Doubler from the US and want to use it here, so I know I need to get a transformer however I don't know which one to get as all of em say that they do 220V down to 110V but they all have different ratings like only suitable up to 100mv or 200mv then 300mv etc..
So have any of you guys got an MXR Flanger Doubler in the US so you could tell me the apropriate one to get? I know the MXR has a 120V rating (mine does anyway) and the rating is scratched off so I can't see it...
Also, any ideas where I could get a USA 3 pin plug? as the MXR has no plug just 3 wires, pos, neg and earth. To to avoid killing myself or someone else when they plug it in I figured it would be better to get a USA 3 pin (earthed) wire it up to the MXR, take the MXR into a transformer and that transformer into my mains...
any ideas would be of great help!
Thanks in advance dudes!

Attention: vintage gear whores, 1964 Marshal JTM 45 MKII
For sale locally in Montreal, asking $7000 CDN (- 20% for you Americans). Personally I've never seen a Marshall this old, if the history lesson attached is acurate, this is the first Marshall head model made:
http://montreal.en.craigslist.ca/msg/1058187337.html
The PrOnZ are crazy
For your consideration is this incredibly rare 100% ALL ORIGINAL MATCHING 1964 Marshal JTM 45 MKII amplifier head and corresponding 1965 Marshall 1960 60w 4x12" speaker cabinet! This 1964 Marshall JTM 45 amplifier (serial #1262) is one of the rarest and most desirable amps ever made, but to find one with an original matching speaker cabinet (serial #5503, speakers date from August 1965) is virtually impossible these days! Both pieces are in exceptional original cosmetic condition. The smooth vinyl tolex is beautifully intact with no rips, no scrapes, no scuffs, no fading, NO NOTHING! The wheat-colored vertical striped grill cloth is in pristine shape as well.
This amp works perfectly and sounds ridiculously amazing! The cabinet is punchy and present, and the speakers are efficient and loud with no speaker fatigue or voice coil distortion whatsoever. The amp produces more gain than a typical late-1960's plexi, and is far more pleasant when compared to other Marshall models. The saturation and tonality are more like that of a Bluesbreaker, with less brash and harsh high end frequencies. There is a reason Pete Townsend used early Marshalls for so long, just be glad he didn't get the chance to demolish this one too!
AMP DESCRIPTION and HISTORY:
This 1964 Marshall JTM 45 MKII amplifier head is in perfect working condition and absolutely stunning cosmetic condition. It is 100% original with the exception of 2 capacitors, that is it. Otherwise, the electronics of the amp are just the same as when it was originally made. This early red and silver block logo JTM45 has an outer lip ally chassis, Clapton white knobs, larger RS indi lamp, a short leather handle, flat black Levant tolex, mini gold T piece, and the ohmage and voltage adjustments are on the transformers. The amp has a gold plexi front pannel with JTM45 and MKII on the front, the rear panels being white with a gold print pressed serial number. The JTM 45W head was the very first Marshall amplifier. It was built from 1962 to 1966. Although early ones did not have a model number, they were later designated as the JTM 45. This circuit is essentially a 1959 Fender Tweed Bassman (circuit 5F6-A) clone. It is said that the first prototype and early production amps were fitted with two 5881 beam power tetrodes, three ECC83's and a GZ34 rectifier tube, but soon KT66 tubes were used instead of the 5881's. The Fender Bassman used a 12AY7 as the input tube but the JTM45 was fitted with a 12AX7/ECC83 which has a higher gain. The mix resistors (which mix together both channels after the first triode sections) were originally 270k on the early models. Sometime in late 1966 these mix resistors were raised in value to 470k.
SPEAKER CABINET DESCRIPTION and HISTORY:
The first Marshall speaker cabinets did not have model numbers. In 1964 Marshall designated his 4x12" speaker cabinet as a model 1960. They were angled (slant cab) front cabinets and were loaded with four 12" Celestion G12-15 speakers, instead of the four 10" Jensen speakers in an open cabinet like Fender Bassmans. In 1965 Marshall transitioned from early 12" Alnico speakers to 25W 12" ceramic Celestion speakers. This cabinet has original Celestion T1221 speakers which all share the same date code which designates an August 14, 1965 production date. All of the speakers have original cones and are in perfect working condition. The cabinet even has the original, and rarely intact, insulation foam. The "shower curtain" grill cloth is beautiful, and from inside the cabinet there is evidence that a slight rip in the grill cloth was professionally repaired. The vinyl on the back panel of the cabinet ha s also been professionally repaired. The artifacts of which are several small L-shaped vinyl lines where rips were mended and secured. The cabinet has both the original gliders and feet on the bottom.

Well...
Gonne be selling my dfh soon. Overall i am just not happy with it.
Started of with just fret buzz at the 2nd fret. Took it to a shop had it all set up, floyd tweaked neck tweached pickup height etc..
It all went messed up again. Took it back to another shop.
Now it's buzzing again, Floyd is s#%t.
So i am selling it. (my washburn stealth still kicks ass. I don't use the floyd much either so...i only need one guitar).
So here is what i am gonna buy..
I have been to afraid to jump off the dean wagon since i got my dbdt ( my first wings...And my best...Even blows the dfh out of the water)
Obviously i'll be getting the Right handed version.
So anyone played one, Or got a review of theirs ?
Quick ''oryginal DFH'' question (Read end about BL)
Ye... i just wanna know what Dean ML dime had before it became Dean From Hell? The Dean which Dime won.
What bands do you guys listen to that you aren't proud of?
Mine have to be Paramore and Hawthorne Heights
Whats the best way to get a great sounding wide vibrato?
As i was cleaning off my guitar yesterday i hit the bridge and it came off. when i went to get it i hit a little thing that raises and lowers the bridge. Then When i restrung my guitar with new strings.
Then when i went to play it it buzzed real bad. So i thought to raise the bridge. now it doesnt buzz on open notes, it buzzes when i push down on a fret. is there any way i can fix this?
The Guitar is a Dean V-XP

New Rythm guitar player worthy or not?
He had trouble especially at the end with the slow powerchords, he couldn't keep the beat down... I had to follow him during my solo and he kept moving around LOL. Other than his tempo issues he's not bad, but I think with a drummer those issues would be solved.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIF6rylopKc
Finally brought my JSX home
In case you didn't read it in the thread before, I put it on layaway two weeks ago when it was at a great price. Total with tax was a little shy of a G. Here's a little teaser shot a.k.a. some of the crappiest pron you'll see.
It's just chillin on top of my Crate combo for now. Probably be another month before I get a cab to go with it. Either way it's all mine and that makes me happy.
Anybody bought this? It has ENGL and UberSchall and Diezel VH4 amp emulation and the clips sound really good.. And for 50 bucks it looks like a good way to test those sounds.. Granted not the same as spending the money for the "actual" heads but being that I already have a UX2 I'm gonna order it.. So anybody have any experience?
Well since I'm a 55 year old disabled vet I don't have a lot of free cash.
So I make do by buying parts and broke guitars and build new ones from parts.
these are my Guitars and Basses. The only guitar bought complete was the MiniStar Bass (the Stick in the Middle)the other bass is a no name body with a new Kay neck. The Dean EVO XM was a box of parts I got at a shop for $30.00 reassembled it, it's now my favorite guitar.
The red guitar is a Kramer the truss rod in the neck was bad ,broke in the middle it had a Floyd Rose bridge I don't like that bridge so I sold it and the nut on ebay for $162.38 that I like.I brought a fender starcaster neck for $18.99 a loaded strat style pickguard for $38.99 2 Humbuckers in it and a gold tone bridge for $9.99.I also had the black guitar it was a Squire Strat body neck and hardware no pickguard .
So I took the Squire neck and tuners, the gold tone bridge put them on the Kramer now a "KraFenStein". I put the new neck, Kramer turners and loaded pickguard on the Squire body now "StratStar".
It's a lot of fun doing this and I get some nice guitars this way for little or no money.
Bad Horsie Wah - Power Supply Hum
I've heard some of you guys that own the Bad Horsie saying that without the Morley Power Supply it hums a little. DOes anyone use it with a Dunlop Power Brick? I've got that but I think it'd almost be better if I use the Bad Horsie with it's own power supply, but whenever I use individual wall warts it seems I get more hum than with the Power Brick. I guess what I'm asking is does the Morley Power Supply add any hum?
Boss Super OD & Boss Distortion
I have an opportunity to purchase both of these pedals which have been modded. The Super OD is supposed to modded to tube screamer, and the DS1 has a custom mod from a local guy here in town I know. It makes the DS1 less muddy. Any opinions on these pedals?
Note Button on Acoustic Preamp
by DewyB on Wed Mar 04, 2009 2:41 pm
I tried searching the forums and the main website to no avail.
I have recently bought a EQA Trans-Blue and I'm trying to figure out the function of one of the buttons on the preamp.
Near the tuner it has a button called note and I can't find any information about it, wasn't given any when I bought the guitar.
Thanks in advance for pondering it with me.
Hey lefties
by Osmo on Wed Mar 04, 2009 2:50 pm
what guitars do you have? Im just interested because the selection of lefty guitars isn't that huge
I got:
ESP KH202 (my 1st guitar)
Dean FBD
2 random acoustics
planning on getting:
Dean V/Z during the summer
Jackson USA (they are just so expensive, so it wont be in the near future =/)
Lamb of God/In Flames/Unearth Concert
Holy hell, that was a killer frippin show! I was standing in the front row, literally close enough to touch the performers when they are standing by the edge of the stage.
It started off with Unearth, which I wasn't too familiar with besides the fact that they are a metalcore band. I was pleasantly surprised their performance. Compared to other modern day metalcore bands like Trivium, I thought they could use some work on their stage presence, they were never the less pretty kick ass. I might buy their CD's soon.
Lamb of God came out second, and Willie was standing in front of me most of the time which was awesome, I was able to give him a high five at one point . They started with Hourglass, then went straight into Laid to Rest; they went full out from the very beginning! They definitely knew what they were doing, everything sounded tight and perfect.
In Flames was the last one to perform, and to be completely honest, I was a tad bit disappointed mainly because guitars weren't cutting through the mix well enough IMO. And for whatever reason, Niklas Engelin was playing instead of Jesper Stromblad, anyone know the reason It was pretty sweet to see Bjorn Gelotte shred up on his guitar though. I was a bit disappointed, but the performance was still very enjoyable.
Sorry this thread is so boring with just bunch of text. I was gonna try and get one nice pron for you guys but they didn't allow any cameras. I'll take the pic of the Tshirts and a pick I caught later to put up. If anyone is considering seeing Lamb of God, I guarantee you you won't be disappointed!
Oh and on a side note, this concert had me cracking up a lot! I constantly heard "IN F RAMES!" and " Ramb of God!" and on top of that, at the end when the tech was giving out the set list, he told the crowd who wanted it to say "prease." I just found that funny and thought I'd share

ESP guitar scale question
by Toast on Wed Mar 04, 2009 5:48 pm
Ok, I really like the stephen carpentar seven strings but does the baritone scale on the sc-607b change the tuneing? I'm sorry if this is just a down right below 70 IQ type question.

Why is Metal so frowned upon.
by ChadMang on Wed Mar 04, 2009 10:43 pm
In computer class today, i was listening to pantera, and my teacher walks up to me saying that i cant listen to loud music (which i understand because people are concentrating) so i start listening to 10's-Pantera and im told " i dont think you get it, you cant listen to heavy metal, it sounds like someone is running over a cat and recording it", so the first thing i said was what do you listen to and i just get ignored.
and the same thing happens with my mom, aunt, grandma and some friends.
so my question is Why is metal so hated?
Yo everyone

New Subway commercial uses dean in ad
The guy on the roof of the store has an all white Dean Razorback.....I had to pause it and get a clear look but is is damn sure a Dean because you can see the wings on the "V" headstock.....I wonder if they either had to get or did get permission or Deans blessing on this...Or did the actor just bring the coolest thing he had from home or could find....[/img]
Are Dean ever gonna put an OFR in it as standard.
Cause its a £1200 guitar, and it has an LFR.
I've noticed that some with mounting rings tend to have that deeper hole on each side of the rout, for the screws to have room.
The guitar body I am looking at for my project guitar, has a different type of rout. It is the size of the pickup, pretty shallow, and looks as if you screw the pickup right into it?
Am I right? And do I have to put something underneath the pickup when I put it in like that? I'm taking notes now, so I can reference later, when I actually get the damned thing together.
I thought I saw a picture of it demonstrating that type of rout somewhere... hm.
What is the "horn" on a guitar?
Sorry for my stupidity, I'm trying to fill out a spec form and it asked if I would like to scallop the heel, horn, or both. I appreciate it!
can you mod a solid state amp?transistors or any other component?
my great aunt died leaving behind a nice mojo'd gibson sg melody maker. will be here friday. pron to follow.
Yes. I finally get to see one of my top 3 favorites! (Too bad Pink Floyd is no longer capable of a reunion tour.)
Going to be seeing them Friday, April 10th in Birmingham, AL at the Workplay Theater. Anybody else going? I'm going to try my hardest to meet all 4 of them. Anybody know how to go about doing that?
I'm not used to seeing big bands like this, being that I live in North MS and nobody ever comes around here, so i'm very excited to say the least.
Best Hollow Body/ Arch Top
Hey, after i get my new Washburn i am gonna look into getting a Hollow Body
like this http://www.epiphone.com/default.asp?ProductID=10&CollectionID=1
so i am wondering what your guys opinions for a good Hollow Body for about 300-500 dollars.
I'm listening to a lot of BLS and im loving Zakk's clean tone, and i played one at my guitar and it sounded pretty damn close and it just felt REALLY damn right to my liking.
Edit:
i don't think they are called Arch Top's but the Epi website says that they are.

Hey guys even tho I gave up playing my Deans is it still cool to hang here?
Your fav guitarist on the clean channel
So, post 'em up. Throw some links up to.
Who's you fav guitarist who stays away from distortion?!?
For me, hands down, it has been Johnny Marr for the last 20 or so years. His short career with The Smiths, IMHO, has made that band as one of the most important bands from the 80's. I find his guitarwork incredible, and when he's paired up with the dark and dramatic lyrics of Morrissey..., well, let's say that they are a great substitute when you're not listening to metal.
Some of my favorite work from Johnny Marr:
Probably his most famous "reverse delay" effect at 0:03 during "How Soon is Now"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_U5HpeA_WSo
My fav solo from Marr is on "Paint a Vulgar Picture", fantastic guitar sound, with only a tad of gain. Solo at 02:45:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZc5nHj6kd0
Nice acoustic style strumming with some catchy fills on "Please, please, please let me get what I want". Nice mandolin work at end of song (studio version), on this one he does a guitar solo:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l56E09RGNDQ
Aggressive with little distortion on "Bigmouth Strikes Again":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlzMrJWYobc
"Suffer Little Children" has some great guitarwork as well. A powerful song about "The Moors" murders in 1963 - 1965:

Schecter woes
by fuzz on Fri Mar 06, 2009 1:13 pm
Hey all,
I recently bought & soon after sold a Schecter C1 Hellraiser...
I couldn't get used to the neck, which to me felt like trying to play a baseball bat; the other thing that put me off was the huge frets.
This particular ax looked & sounded killer, the full metal deal, It just didn't feel comfy to play.
Anyone else find this with the Schecters???
Need some pickup advice!
by Larsson on Fri Mar 06, 2009 2:08 pm
Hello from Sweden!
So me and my friend are ordering some stuff from Thomann tommorow and i am getting a bridge pickup for my ML 79. Ok, i don't have the guitar yet but i will some day!
As i said, im changing the bridge pickup in "my" ML 79. I dont want to change the neck pickup (Dean Zebra) unless it is neccesary.
So, the pickup must be passive and it needs to deliver some serious carnage. Im playing thrash/death metal. Even tough i like a lot of distorsion i want my tone to be clear. I hate muddy-sounding pups.
Wich one of theese should i choose? Remember to write WHY you think i should get the pickup you recomend.
1) Dimarzio X2N
2) SD Invader
3) SD Super Distorsion
4) Dimarzio Super Distorsion
i think my guitar just died on me
i plugged it in to my amp and it wont play, there's no sound coming out.
i tried different cables, amps and even guitars, the problem is in the guitar
apparently there's something wrong with the 2nd tone knob, as i twist it, the signal comes and goes, i cud hear something for a second then it goes.
it's a jackson DXMG dinky
please help.
Did anyone grab the Musicians Fiend Stupid Deal of the Day?
They had the black and yellow Dean Razorback V 255 Electric Guitar for $399. Sold out already though.
Question about speaker RMS
This is slightly off topic as it is about the speakers in my car rather than amp speakers.
Im wanting to know if an amp (in this case the cd player in my car) outputs 30 watts RMS, does that mean the speakers I use need to also be rated at 30 watts RMS? On my CD player it says 50 x 4, which I think means it can run 4 speakers at a max of 50 watts, but thats max, not RMS.
I already have 2 speakers in my car which are 30 watts RMS each, I plan to add 2 more 6x9 speakers, now I need to know if I have to buy some rated at 30 watts RMS, or would I be ok as long as the RMS doesnt exceed 50 watts?

Upgrades Ahoy!!! (Non-Dean, Killer-Strat Content)
by xero_uk on Fri Mar 06, 2009 6:53 pm
Today is a good day,
This is without a doubt the best playing guitar I have EVER held in my hands (better than an original 50's Les Paul worth £4500).
She's been in the shop a few days having a make over (as you may have seen in my other posts this week). So without further a-do...
...THE PRON!
Full Frontal
New Bridge (Wilkinson CV100 Convertible)
New Nut (LSR Roller)
New Tuners (Sperzel Locking)
Tremolo Cover Place with "Park Post"
Ze Action
Bridge Stability. In my other post I mentioned the functionality of this bridge. When the trem-arm is in it's "return to" position the bridge will not move due to the "Park Post" in the earlier picture. The bridge only moves when you have hold of the trem-arm itself. I promise I was pressing on the bridge in this picture (I have no way to prove it, you will just have to believe me)
And with the trem-arm moved the bridge is free to work both ways.
Enjoy! Any questions....ASK AWAY.
(I apologise for the bad quality pics.)

This guitar is the guitar for me. I got quality with my HT but was never comfy with it. The heel is a little annoying on the Soltero, but there is nothing I can't do, unlike with the HT when I can't reach some frets.

What do you think of these pedals?
by Lon on Sat Mar 07, 2009 3:12 am
Have to admit I've never used a pedal other than the multi effects type. I may be working a trade for this Marshall setup, all brand new installed on a board. BB2 BluesBreaker, ED1 Compressor/Sustainer, GV2 Guv'Nor, JH1 Jackhammer, RF1 Reflector, VT1 VibraTrem, EH1 Echo Head & RG1 Regenerator. Actual retail value is about $670.
Does anybody have pron of the Dimebonics ML, Razor V Blades, Razor Slimebolt, and of the new VMNT's?
Thanks,
Justin
*I also used the search, but mine wont work *
When I engage the DD-3 on the Engl in the effects loop the repeats are extra distorted (very unmusical sounding). In terms of electrical signal terminology the repeated signal is clipping. My brothers dd-3 does this on his Randall RG100G3 too. Is there a more reliable delay I can buy? I don't need anything higher than 800mS. I didn't notice anything on the 6505+ when I used the delay but the Engl is way better at voicing the real sound of the gear connected to it.
Edit:
I think I'll try one of these:
http://www.digitech.com/products/Hardwire/HW_DelayLooper.php
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSBmy9mGeb0&feature=channel_page
I'm out of work and bored
So instead of turning it into a clock, I played junkyard wars and made a playable guitar out of this old V body I had. The neck came in a parts lot I bought on ebay a long time ago, it's a cheepo AMS but it's straight and the scale matched the old neck but added 2 frets.
I had to cut into the neck joint past the neck pickup route and shimmed the neck a bit and actually broke the head off a screw bolting the neck on but got that resolved. Next, I threw a locking nut on which is a bit narrow but works and used the old mismatched gibson tuners that came on my SG.
Last, I wired up a single epi humbucker to one vol. pot and strung it up with a used set of strings(yeah,I save them)to see how it played and I've been pretty happy with it. The action is just a bit high but it works good for what it is.
NGD (NDC) hideous content...
So, I finally traded off my Cort doubleneck thing for this, an Electra Outlaw X730:
Yeah, I know it looks like it was designed from a Kindergarten drawing contest, but it actually plays like a champ and sounds pretty good, too. The pickups need potting and I may go for something a bit hotter in the bridge, but other than that (and a few electrical problems), it's a thruneck mahogany guitar with no neckjoint, ebony, great abalone inlays, oooooooold grover rotomatics, and a functional phase shifter! I'm working on a plate that will move the center of gravity...neck heavy...but overall, I think it was a good trade. I couldn't even play that Cort.
May be selling MXR Flanger Doubler
Hey dudes, I live over in the UK and My MXR doesnt cope with being transformed to our voltage it just hums so loudly, theres nothing wrong with it though just doesnt work in the UK without a massive hum...
If any of you guys are interested in buying it let me know, make some offers and I'll get back to you if we can't eliminate this hum
Cheers

Hilarious Pop/disco/screamo band
by ATR1990 on Sat Mar 07, 2009 11:29 pm
I saw a thread a while back..
It had these two men (one was asian and the other caucasian)
They were part of this new "genre" pop/screamo/disco.
The backing singer was just posing around, and everyone now and again screaming "aaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwww" in the singers face,
I wanna show my friend how stupid they are, but can't remember their name.
Anyone favourite them so they could laugh over and over again ?
They sound like hollywood undead sort of.
Destruction, krisiun, mantic ritual review.
by Dooom on Sat Mar 07, 2009 11:48 pm
So first off, every band had at least one member that used a Dean. The singer/guitarist from Mantic Ritual used a Dean VX, the bassist/singer from Krisiun used a metal man ML, the guitarist of Destruction used a black gold V and the bassist and singer used a metal man V bass.
Mantic Ritual - Decent generic thrash metal. Super faced and the lead guitarist was like a jewish Yngwie Malmsteen. Bassist was very talented aswell, i would give their performance about a 6.5 or 7 and their music a 6.
Krisiun - This was the highlight of the show for me, as they are one of my favorite death metal bands. Put on an incredible show and I was right up front at the stage without any barriers so I got to high five and shake hands with the bass player a lot. They were super appreciative of the crowd and played a killer set. After the show I got the setlist. performance 9 music 9. Killer band killer show.
Destruction - Legendary band. For their set I left the floor and went up to a little balcony area because I hurt my leg and arm really bad during Krisiun. I'm not the biggest fan of Thrash, so I am not that big of a fan of Destruction, but their set was real good. The crowd had a lot of older people wearing vintage metal tee's which I thought was really cool. Destruction played like 22 songs and but most of them sounded the same to me. performance 7 music 7.
I also got a picture of me and the guitarist from Krisiun, Moyses Kolesne.
METAAAAAAAAAAAL!
Torn between 7 string guitars
by AhsanU on Sun Mar 08, 2009 2:16 am
Hey guys! I just don't know which 7 string guitar to buy. I'd love to play Trivium's new albums' riffs, but I'm mainly buying a 7 string to explore further riff ideas as well.
I've been looking at the Razorback 7 for quite sometime, but I've also recently started looking at Jeff Loomis' guitar; but I hear people complaining about the scale of the guitars. Can anyone actually explain this further to me? As I don't know exactly what the scale of the guitar is. I think it's the length of the actual neck? The Razorback 7 has a 25.5 inch scale whereas the Schecter Jeff Loomis 7 string has a 26.5 inch scale. Is it a major difference, am I even correct about it? I suspect I should go to a music store and try out different scaled guitars but I'd rather check in with you guys first.
Another thing that really sways me from the Razorback 7 is the price, it's 200 more dollars, and it doesn't even come fitted with a proper Floyd Rose tremolo.
But I just love the Razorback shape, and just love Dean guitars in general. But the Schecter isn't ugly either.
Anyone have any advice/input on the matter?
Anybody got one? What are your thoughts? Just got one for $40.
My son is in an online Battle of the Bands competition on My space and he is in the top 5..I was really hoping that you guys would be able to help his band is the Faith in the Fallen and they do sound pretty good, they are all 15 and 16 years old...THEY ARE ONLY A FEW VOTES AWAY FROM GETTING THE GIG!!!

I'm going to a guitar store tomorrow to try some amps with my Razorback V and I'm eager to try any Engl's, Mesa's and Peavey's I can. And they have a pretty rad price on the Engl Thunder 50 combo (499 gbp) so I'm gonna try it out, but is it reliable, etc?
Putting a guitar on consignment on layaway
At Pro Concert Music in Tupelo, MS, I played an Ibanez 7 string Saturday. It was the absolute greatest guitar i've ever played, period. I've played several USA guitars, but this one tops them all. It was so easy to control vibrato, the neck fit my hand perfectly, and all of my runs were just so clean. I need this guitar. It has a few dents and dings, but I don't really care. It's $400. I asked the guys there about putting it on layaway, but they said it is on consignment. I just don't have $400 at the moment and I really want to get it before some Korn lover goes in there and tries to rape it of it's capabilities.
So, any tips on talking these guys into letting me put it on layaway or anything? I tried to work out a deal with them but they weren't having it. I really want this guitar.
Speaker Choice for Epi Valve Jr
Well Ive looked at WGS, Celestion, Eminence, Jenson and weber...
I almost ordered a swamp thang from eminence.. I was gonna pair it with a texas heat or a cannabis rex.
But then i got to thinking. Maybe I want a really low wattage speaker something with a more vintage vibe to it. So i started looking at webers and jensens. They both have some good looking speakers with wayy more of a vintage vibe goin on.
What im wondering is... My strat through my Valve junior, into lower wattage speakers such as 25 watters, with a lower speaker sensitivity such as a pair of greenbacks for example, will push the amp harder for the same desired volume. I know the VJ gets dirty pretty quick after about 2 o clock. Will I have enough headroom to crank my amp some and still retain a stratty sound? Or should i Consider something like an eminence swamp thang with a really high speaker sensitivity. probably 5 db more or so compared to the greenback. So i can get a bit more clean headroom squeezed outta it.
Im really worried about ear piercing ice picky highs as well (especially on a strats bridge pup).. Ive heard that lower wattage speakers are in general brighter. Ive considered going the alnico route as well. I like the idea of there being more of an amp/speaker interaction which can be lost with high wattage speakers.
Overall whats the pros and cons of each setup. Highly efficient modern speakers or more vintage like speakers that will most likely distort and compress some.
just some opinions on the matter.. a general consensus i guess.. i just wanna hear every ones opinion as im really interested and this is something i know alot of guitarists are interested in, including myself.
I really like SRV's tone especially the live version of him playing little wing and third stone from the sun on youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAG-kX_IlUw here it is.
If i could get a tone somewhat close to this id be in heaven.
*Edit* I also liked the thought of the swamp thang because i know it has a huge bottom end which would keep my strat from "thinning" out in the mix.

_koppen is Randall X2 no more
I had to do it, no job, upcomming travels etc..
If i wanted the same kind of cash from the Bugera, i would have had to sell the cab to, and i wouldn't have much use for the warhead without a cab
And im in Norway now, so my parents handled the deal, so i didn't even got to say goodbye to my homie :'(

Sunday Night Loltime (Musical content inside!)
So I was cleaning out some of the files on my computer and came across a few old gems, some of which are movies of an adult nature (no, I won't send them to you) and more importantly, the first track young what-a-cool-username ever recorded!
I decided to upload it because it's such a ridiculous piece of music that was obviously written by a rock-obsessed, grotty 13-year old and it'll be a good larf for you all hopefully. All lyrics and instrumentation apart from drums and vocals were done by me - don't judge my guitar playing or musical skills too harshly, because for one thing it was about 4 or so years ago, I'd only been playing a year and if you asked me to show you a scale other than pentatonic my head would have exploded.
Enjoy, I sure did!

High E String Not Clearing Back of Bridge
by FearCage on Sun Mar 08, 2009 10:22 pm
Hello,
I'm having a problem with my high E string on my Soltero. I was wondering why the sustain my high E was lacking compared to my other strings when I realized that the high E was not clearing the back of the bridge. I remember reading something about this in my book by Dan Erlewine, but I cannot find the chapter about it in the book for the life of me.
Does anyone here know why a string would not clear the back of a bridge? If so, what can be done to fix it? A repositioning of the saddle?

Help with Home recording.

Hey all...
I recently realised how to hook my amp up to my pc.
It sounds much better than using my microphone, But,
It still sounds really bassy/ballsy.
I am looking to For a Nice metal Distorted sound.
Currently my setting are at
Bass = 10
Middle = 0
Treble= 9
I use a line 6..
Like that ^^^ It sounds really good...
Not ass based as you would think..
Nice and even crunch if i may say so..
But like i said..When running through the pc it sounds extrememly Bassed out..
So..
I tried increasing the mid and dropping the bass + treble. But, i lose My nice Crunchy "metal" sound..
Any tips ?
i used to be BowToMe and BowToMe666,
changed my name because i got tired of it, and my new name is a nickname my uncle(BLS obsessor) gave me and it stuck.
Just so ya know.
Hey i got a question about Dime's Dean Bullet Holes guitar

Legend amplifiers

Anyone here own one or played one?
My dad's friend used to play one in his band and it ended up in the hands of his other friend who recently got back in touch with my dad.
It's still in good condition apparently, older than 15 years for sure.. But he has no use for it as he doesn't play.
I found one on ebay just now, I showed it to my dad and says it looks like the one our friend has. Does that price look right for one of these or do they go for higher elsewhere? I have no idea how much my dad's friend want's for his, he'll probably give it to me for free anyways, but if he want's something for it, I wanna know what a good price is.

Even though the piano version is way better, I cant seem to find a better masterpiece than this. Probably one of my all time favorite classical pieces. It make take a long time but Im bound and determined to learn this. Its time to study classical.
The tempo in this is faster than the original but who cares, this dude nails it on guitar.

96 Dean Caddy White w/ gold hardware VG-VG+ Trying to Rescue
All right, gents and ladies, first post here so don't be too hard on me...already got this Dean Caddy Problem. So a couple months ago I traded an m-audio fire wire interface w 6 in and 10 outs for a Dean I really didn't know much about. Ive been playing guitar for 17 years and until the recession hit, was pretty unfamiliar with pawnshops, other than usually, they get your s#%t unless you are on top of things and really think you're going to get that extra cash when it's needed. Enough BS, Ill break it down for ya'll. I basically got what I think was a dean caddy 96 (numbers on the neck near the headstock) no block inlay, just the pearl dot's. Plastic Tuning Knobs not the nice aluminum or other that some of em come with. Cream/White Colorway with gold hardware a small crack in the finish from where i assumed someone dropped it. Very Very small though, no fret buzzing, played great. I have played fenders all my life and after laying my hands on the caddy, I don't know if it would make me want to switch over but I loved the feel, and I loved the upper fret access. It's currently in pawn for 150$. My first question (and i'm sorry i don't have a pic) How much do you guys, based on the info, think that guitar might be worth? Also, If I do go back and get it from pawn, I want to post it up here for sale before or after i add some new humbuckers and get the thing looking sharp i'm a good electrician and have a good eye for what makes a guitar look slick without cheezing it out. So......should I try and rescue it? I would say yes, but if it's only worth 200 or something I prolly won't go get it back considering I just paid rent and will be tight on money until taxes come next week, but before that I'd have to drop another 25 in interest to keep it in pawn. What do you guys think? Should I get it and bring it here or lose it to the 7th level of pawn hell...lost a mex strat, lost an sg (epiphone) and now this<<<<<<those guitars I could give two shits about except the strat b/c it was the first elec I ever bought...but I'm running on and boring you guys into a coma by now. Any answers? And any estimates on what I may have lost? Thanks guys, and thanks for havin me, you might have a fender>dean transplant...so I'll be around. Later S.P. <<<<this face may change.

Dean soltero standard top and body question
by jszfunk on Mon Mar 09, 2009 6:02 pm
Just a question about the soltero standard tops. I have noticed on all of the soltero standards seem to have a top on it except the white one. You can see the binding on the other's but not the white. Is/was there and issue or is it just how it's made?
And also the raised area of the guitar where the pup selector switch is at ,that little lip area, does that get in the way of playing with your pick hand?
This is Pretty Niffty

For those joining forum, or coming back from hiatus! READ!
Here are some basic rules to make the forum a better place, and keep it from being repetitive, violent, or just plain below 70 IQ type.
1. DO NOT DISCUSS SPLITTAIL VS. GIBSON SGV. If you want info on it, use the SEARCH BUTTON. This topic has been SO whored out. We don't need another thread!
2. Re-read your post. If your post is offensive in any way, think of how the other will respond. Try not to be vulgar, or just pick fights. It seems, that noobs pop up during the winter months mostly. These guys usually dunno the rep of each senior member, and mostly try to fight, and act immaturely. This excludes noobs that actually DO want to gain info, and talk about guitars!
3. Use the search button. At the top of the page, is something labeled search. Click it, type what you're looking for, and boom! ANSWERS. Stop making useless threads that clutter the forums please!
4. Old topics. Try not to post in these. If they are worthy, fine. But if they are a few months old, try to keep away. Above each person's post, is a date. Also, when in the main forum, where you click topics, the last posted date is on the right.
Thanks dudes. I know, I'm not ModSquad... but I'm just wanting this forum to be a more enjoyable place! Too many people are leaving for petty reasons...

Dimarzio Super Distortion Question
Hey
How its with this humbs? I found a lot of it on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Dimarzio-Super-Distortion-DP100-pickup-black-cream_W0QQitemZ400035589771QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar_Accessories?hash=item400035589771&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1729|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50
Its a ''oryginal?'' Dimarzio? i don't know.. made USA of sth like that? Or its just a copy? You know what i want to say... it is the same situation like with Deans inport and USA.
Its the same linke in USA DFH?
Anytime I listen to Damageplan, any song, the lyrics remind me of Dimes death.
Am I the only one that noticed or feels like this?

How does the "thin u" compare to a "v" neck? I haven't gotten to play any ESP's, but the LTD seems like a great value compared to the razor.

Calling rridner, USA MHG ML/Soltero Question
Okay, this guitar is my OBJECT OF LUST , i will be saving up for this after my new Washburn arrives.
Why is the guitar like 3000 dollars less than other USA's, from what i've been told it's because of the plain Unfinished body, but does the unfinished body really take 3000(i dont know how much exactly, thats my estimate) dollars of it?
and my other Question is How good is the tuning stability on it?
Got this 79Z from Jody, it is unlike any 79 i have seen. Specs are:
set neck.
no binding on neck, body, or headstock.
Matching headstock
EMG 81/85
DBD traction knobs.
This things looks and plays GREAT! Great tone, sustain for days. here is a fast pic of it, I will get some better ones up later.
Changing entire rig over the next few months....
by Joose on Tue Mar 10, 2009 3:46 am
Always down for opinions and suggestions.
Basically, for the last 3 years I've been running through a Line 6 HD147 (one of the best investments I ever made) and guitars with EMGs. But it's time for something new. I've got the Dean Soltero with the Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge and the guitar tone is exactly what I want.
But now it's time for an amp... over the past few years I've sold a lot of my pedals. Mainly because, the Line 6 has everything I need and more.
I'm going to buy some sort of Randall. Whether it be an MTS with whatever 3 modules I choose, or the V2 Ninja... I'm going to need some stuff.
Wah-Morley Tremonti
Delay-Not sure yet
Chorus-Probably a Digitech
Noise Gate-No clue, never bought one before
So... any suggestions on Delay and Noise Gates would be appreciated. I'm so used to my amp having everything nowadays that I'm kinda lost.

First USA! NGD *Pron Added*
I picked up a black Jackson WR1, man it is amazing! My first USA ever the best part was, I payed €700 and it is in MINT condition!
Its the best sounding guitar ive ever heard, the stock invader sounds amazing in the bridge. Sounds pretty bad in my Razorback compared to the WR1. It must be the maple under the pickups in the WR1 that make it sound so bright(neck-tru), bright invaders are WOW
Now teach me how to post pics on this forum lol

I just got myself an ISP Decimator. It was between this and the Vox Satchurator which is pretty sweet too. I'll end up getting that pretty soon too anyway I'm still deciding if this should go in the loop or in the front, but it quiets things either way. We'll see. Just wanted to give another positive for the ISP.

Another Craigslist score ! NAD !! Crate/Kustom
I guess I'm still the king of the Sanford and Son deals!
I found these two Kustom tuck-n-roll cabs from way back when on Craigslist the other day. They used to hold 3 15's each , but they were speakerless when I got em. Great condition otherwise. $50 cash n carry. I just happen to have all the speakers I need to fill these bad boys , and what I'll end up with is each cab holding one 15" scorpion woofer , and two 12" celestions.
Then today what do I see ? a Crate GX-1200 H for $30 ! 120 watts of power for 30 chips ? I was on it.
So - I ended up with a Crate/Kustom custom - 120 watts , 3 channels , twice 15's and 4 12's .
all for 80 bucks .
I love junk!
thanks to my daughter for demonstrating their size against a 32 inch tall human .

If you've not bought it. The Lonely Island's new album is comedy epicness. Andy Samberg is the best thing SNL has had in years.
So I Still Have My Dean White/Gold V....SORTA !! UPDATED
I bought a Dean White/Gold V a year or so ago and after trying to "thin the heard" this one never sold (actually it did but the buyer came back and and wanted on of my MLs instead!).
Anyway, I decided to keep it and make a project out of it! Good or not, ugly or pretty, effective or not, a waste of time possibly, BUT I AM GONNA HAVE FUN!
I stripped the hardware and electronics, had it routed for a Kahler and bought an EMG 81TW for it (the 81 that allows you to split the coil). The hardware (tuners and Kahler) will be chrome. Last but not least a Bulls eye pattern (and no, I am not a die hard Zakk fan.....just emulating the Gibson ZW V). I just got it back from a carpenter friend of mine that routed the body and applied the bulls eye tonight. I will update the thread when I am finished building it in the next day or so!
This is done in pure fun but I really am hoping it turns into a cool player I can abuse and not feel too guilty about.

String gauge!
by AhsanU on Wed Mar 11, 2009 5:23 am
Okay, hopefully this will be the last thread for me on 7 string guitars!
Like most of you, I've found a gauge and brand of strings that I've become accustomed to and prefer. DR's Dimebag 9-51 is perfect for me as far as standard E and dropped D is concerned. And when I get my 7 string I want to use the same strings for the regular 6 strings, and maybe a 60 or 62 for my low B.
Will there be any problems? What strings do you 7 string users use? Thanks.

Ok, yes its offtopic but i gotta know, what tattoo does phil anselmo have on his back? back in the day when he didnt wear a shirt, i never saw one, i was watching some arson anthem vids (where phils playing guitar, so its kinda on topic, even tho AA sucks and phils deff not a guitarist) and then there was a vid "phil shows hit tattoos" and i clicked it and it was a huge back peice and i have never seen it before

Anyone here on the official meshuggah forum?
I signed up months ago and never got a confermation,I can log in but cant post anywere.
After playing 2 packs of DR Tite Fits, and still playing the d'addario's on my Soltero, I think I want to go back to coated strings. They are just comfier and my acid hands don't destroy them as fast.
I usually play DR Black Beauties, and absolutely love them in fact. The 'dust' they make kinda sucks, but it's a small price to pay for comfort. However i've heard Elixirs are amazing, and Ernie Ball coated strings are new and potentially awesome. So, i'd like some feedback!

Recycling old strings?
by damigu on Wed Mar 11, 2009 6:33 pm
anyone know of some place that takes old strings for recycling?
one day i was changing my strings and realized the amount of steel and nickel and bronze that i--and every other guitarist--have been throwing out for many many years now. it seems like a lot of waste (no pun intended).
i've tried googling it and all i find are people who re-use old strings for jewelry and other stuff, but that isn't what i want.
i couldn't find info on the string manufacturer's websites, either.
Valveking - Mega gear upgrade
Hey everyone, ive been using these forums for a few months now and they truely are the best on the internet, just thought id put that in there
Im gonna get a peavey valveking within the next 1-3 months, i dont know, either the head and cab or the 212 combo im still deciding on that.
My budget is around £450. I have played the 112 and it is the sound i want, so no unreasonable alternatives please
This is the start of a major gear upgrade. I want to know if any of you guys use them with your deans or any other guitar. What are the pros and cons of the amps, do they sound differnt?
Thanks.

hey, for ages i've been wanting to put new pickups in my epiphone les paul custom. I'm comfortable being a rythmn guitarist, its what i do, chords with the odd fill... I play in a band which main focus is classic rock and metal, my taste anyway, and so the pickups would have to reflect this, I've actually done abit of research on this already but as always players state far more useful information than the manufactors website... although doubtedly i will get alot of other advice the two sets of pickups im quite interested in are gibson burstbuckers, or the zakk wylde 81 & 85 emg set. Having a solid state amp my first preference would be with the burstbuckers as they are passive, and i love a vintage tone...
please help me decide or even through more options out there!
I don't know about you guys, but I find myself listening almost exclusively to music that's been made decades ago, or bands that have been around for decades... and I've kinda neglected the "new" music that's been coming out as of late...
So I thought it might be cool for us to share some new bands, or younger bands that we've been digging...
I'll start us off.... A couple weeks ago my friend turned me on to this band called ASG... he lent me their Win Us Over Album
it's some of the coolest music I've listened to in a while, especially from a "new" band
It's like stoner/doom metal, meets this new alternative feel that's out right now... down tuned sludgy riffs with HUGE melodies over them... this Album is like a melding of all the sickest bands from before (Kyuss, CoC, little Goatsnake, The Sword, Fireball ministry etc etc) put together in this brand new spin that i cannot stop listening to. It's such a nice breath of fresh air.
here's the space...

Thoughts on Randall V2?
by Joose on Thu Mar 12, 2009 12:44 am
This is the amp I'm lacking at right now... I've only played one for about 10 minutes when I was up in Virginia at a Sam Ash store.
I remember liking it a lot, but what are your thoughts on them?
By the way, if I get one it will be the V2 Ninja:

Help Building Parts-o-caster!!!!
Well i got my strat here... Real nice Alder Body... Maple neck, rosewood fretboard. Vintage correct output Alnico ii single coils... 6 point trem... All the good stuff....
But Ive ran into a problem. I don't know how to go about installing the 6 point trem, the screw holes aren't pre-drilled. Neither were the neck or the tuner holes, but i managed on them.
Can someone give me a rundown or walk through on how i should go about installing the tremolo please? I want it to be correct scale length and to be able to properly set intonation. I will abuse this trem so i need it to be stable lol.

I am looking for Blue DIamond Tolex for the old Ampegs from the 60's. About 2-3 yards of it. The suppliers' I've found so far are out of stock, and I haven't been able to get an answer back on when it's available.
Any ideas where I can get some?
when i went into my local guitar shop to check on how long i would be waitin for my new dean (only a cheapey bass, pron still needed?) i noticed a vision from the 80s in white, a fernandes v, its white, in the rhodes style, so im assuming its a JS100, neck through, with a gold kahler trem, chrome knobs & black tuners. i was wondering, since alot of people on here will know more, how much they fetch & also what colour the original hardware was.
edit: it looks very similar, if not the same to one that andy sneap used to use

Great forum you have here!

For any of you Burzum fans on the forum...
" After his four applications for parole were denied, Varg Vikernes (Count Grishnackh) formerly of Burzum was finally told he will be released from prison after 16 years incarcerated.
Vikerenes was serving a 23-year sentence for the murder of Oystein Aarseth (aka Euronymous), guitarist of Mayhem and owner of Deathlike Silence Productions record label that Burzum was signed to. Varg was also convicted for setting fire to three churches.
Varg says that he is "...ready for society..." and has been for many years. He told Dagbladet newspaper, "I have learned from my mistakes and become older. Now I just want to be together with my family...I have barely seen my [18-month old] son since he came into the world. Even though I hear his voice on the phone almost every day, it is very tough to not be present while he is growing up." Varg regularly left the prison for the past couple of years to visit his mother, wife, 16-year-old daughter and young son in Tromso, Norway, the town where the prison is located.
While some, like the Justice Ministry, fear that he will not be able to adjust to life on the outside, Vikerenes said, "I look forward [to] the day that I could work on my farm, create music, write books and be with my family around the clock---and live a normal life." When asked by VG newspaper about if a "normal life" involves communication with Neo-Nazi groups he formerly endorsed, Vikernes said he "...[hasn't] been in contact with them for a long time."
Varg may have been paroled earlier, but was denied the second time he applied because the Justice Ministry claimed he escaped prison in 2003.
Varg will join his family in Bo, Norway, where he recently purchased a farm. Once he has been released, he is required to check in with the authorities every two weeks, and then after some time, every month."

Now I don't support what he did but I am quite a big fan of Burzum and I'm pretty excited to hear this, being as there's a possibility of some new albums
Anyone else happy to hear this?
NOTE: I don't want this to turn into a thread about politics or his former beliefs, this is only for the music. Nothing else.

Someone wish me a Happy Birthday, damnit!
I swear everyone I know must be having a surprise party for me or something, because not one person has said anything to me all day. It's like friggin' Sixteen Candles over here or some crap! Something is up. I can tell, but not having one person say it to myface is kinda bumming out. Happy Birthday to me, eh?
I have a VK 1x12 combo and I'd like to upgrade the speaker. I'm going with an Eminence due to price, quality, and the fact that they're made in the USA. I've been leaning toward the Governor based on reviews alone, but I want some input on other models, too. I want a tight bottom, a warm midrange, and highs that aren't shrill. My tonal influences are EVH, Zakk, Jerry Cantrell, Dimartini - something warm that cuts through the mix. Please tell me about your experiences with various Eminence speakers. Please don't chime unless you've played them. Thanks!

Ok, so I have been thinking about getting the new 6505 1x12 somewhere down the road. it from the looks of it should be somewhere around the same price as the valveking 2x12 combo. and I have to ask. because I KNOW that the 6505 doesn't have good cleans at least on its own. so is there any way at all to get good cleans out of it? or on an alternative note, does anyone assume that peavey will be releasing a combo version of the 3120?

So right now I'm looking at Caddy's and I would like to know what do you think about that ...
If I put a Emg 81 in the bridge a 85 or a 60 in the Neck what would go in the middle ? I looked at the Emg website but I didn't found anything ...
and those the ZW kit is just a 81-85 in combo, or they are different from the 81-85 Gold

Also, can I have the guitar with any Dean PUP without extra $$?

New Member of the Dean Family
by EGEDE2 on Fri Mar 13, 2009 2:08 am
Got my first Dean last weekend. It is a black 1980 reissue Caddy with Gold Hardware. It`s awesome, but I have to polish it every 10 minutes. My next purchase will either be a Dean ML Knight or a Bc Rich Mockingbird Special. Any advice on this would be helpful. I am proud to own a Dean.
I keep a guitar and a little korg box here at work so I can practice during lunch. Today I was just jamming away on an A7 comp and came up with a riff I really liked. I am not much of a player, but it sounded great to me at the time. D'ya think I can remember it now that I am plugged into rifftracker? Of course not.
ARRRGHHH!!!!
Ever happened to anyone else? How do you get around it?
Calling Anyone Metal Head who owns a Dean ML Knight , POST SOME PRON ! NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!

i may be getting a cherry burst V soon(like, next weekish). and i'm not really all too excited about the cherry due to the pictures i've seen, its always more red than not and looks a bit cheesy.
so i'm wondering if you have a cherry burst guitar, weather a v, ml, z, or whatever and are willing to post your pictures here.
i'm getting the guitar at a great deal, so yeah.
and if i dont like the red, then i'll repaint it or something.
so yeah....post your cherry burst guitars here.

Mine : Dean USA Skulls Razorback V !
are these good speakers can you get a good metal tone out of them.
before you say dime used them, maybe so, but i aint heard them.so with that said gimme your input.
Two USA Deans to choose from. Please help me O.O
Hey, I am deciding on my next guitar right now and I am in quite a pickle. I am torn between the USA Razorback V Skull and the USA Rusty Cooley signature model. The RC7 has better components and a better feel overall but the V Skull has much more visual temptation and I find the tone to be a bit better than the RC7 (EMG's are just a bit sterile on the solo part and suck on the cleans). The RC7 is about 650$ cheaper though and they are both amazing guitars. What would you suggest?
3 Fireball Clips: Different tunings
Here's the first of 3 clips I recorded today. The gain is high because my master is low. When I play the master on 2-3 I lower the gain a little. This is at slightly higher than apartment levels.

The Hair and Glam Metal Thread!
I know, most of the guys on here, are Death Metal people... but even that metal evolved from somewhere right?
Even though my parents had just started dating in the very late 80s, that era still fascinated me. Everything from Van Halen - Death!
So, here is one particular song that seems to play in my head a lot.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6iQngZc2hw
Excuse the cheesy video. I believe Odin to be one of the "lost treasures" of the 80s. A lot of people said they sucked, but I see some style to them. Randy "O" isn't the best singer, but Jeff Duncan rocks at making those sleazy catchy guitar riffs!
So, post up some of your memories of the 80s metal scene, or just some bands from the 80s that you still love, or wish you'd been there to love, kinda like me.
I need to get my son some extra string sets for his nylon acoustic.

so i decided to go out today and try out some of these guitars everyones raving about esps right.so i went to sam ash and played a few not to shavy didnt like the jackson rip off headstocks much but they played well not any better than my deans though .also played a jackson set neck rhodes v i liked it but the ltd sounded bettter cause the emgs.so i tried a jackson dynky played way better and bolt on go figure but i hate strats.so i went to guitar center and played a few guits as i was walkin out i saw this ibanez up on the wall and was attracted to it hadent seen this shape from ibanez before.so i had them pull it down for kicks.pluged it into a marshall mg half.to say the least the neck on this guitar is majik.wide flat and fast as hell.so easy to play i was just blown away at how easy it was to shred with very little effort!!harmonics are a breeze the neck is strait as hell to.total opposite of what im used to and the trem is buttery.i had to have it!!so i went to my storage and pulled out some old gear and traded and walked out with it.i know it aint a dean but it kills the ltds and jacksons i played and if u havent played one do!!the playabillity of this guitar is amazing to say the least and the dimarzios dont sound half bad either!!I played a jem for most of the 80s went to deans.not sellin my deans which i love but this ibanez is definetly a keeper!!
i was watching Drag The Waters with the free time i had in my computer class, and i noticed that Rex, Darrell and Vinnie were all jamming but Phil is all isolated,so to speak,in a room.
Is this just me or isnt that another way of Phil distancing himself from the band.
I have nothing against Phil,(as was said earlier) he is my favorite member of Pantera, but i just thought that was a little weird.
I found something pretty cool, Custom 81/85 EMG set (Camo!)

Meshuggah
by raifo on Sat Mar 14, 2009 8:12 am
Any Meshuggah fans out there?
Hey everyone, i hope all is well!
A couple of days ago i put up a thread asking what people thouhgt of the Peavey VK head. And i got alot of suggestions to lookup a Bugera of some description (thank you _koppen ). Now i have mega mega GAS..... for a 6262 half stack or a 333xl halfstack.
I have been looking at online reviews, sound clips etc. etc. and i am impressed. I went onto bugera's website and used the dealer locator tool. The nearest Bugera dealer is about 1hour 40mins away. This really really sucks. I will have to wait until closer the time to try both. But for now, which amp do you think will suit my style most (wylde, mustaine, buckethead)??

So I stopped by the local music store on lunch....
Whazzzup!!!
So I stop by Drome Sound up here in upstate new york on lunch the other day to see whats new.I ordered my cemetery gates razor thru these guys, great guys if in area.Anyhow after checkin the guitars in stock, never enough deans in stock but they had a bunch of USA jacksons there on sweet deals, played nice as well. But I look at the used amp section , and someone just traded in a JSX halfstack w/ the slanted cabinet. I have already the JSX halfstack w/ straight cab. They were willing to split the pair and sold me the cabinet for 299.For that price, I couldn't deny my house of a FULL JSX STACK. and does it ever kick ass!!! Now instead of running as a full stack, I have a crappy mg100 head that I'm using as a power amp to the slant cabinet, and I'm slaving off the JSX. The sound is unbelieveable, opens up the effects I have in the loop like you wouldn't believe. Pron to come

Anybody have one or heard. Can possibly get one w/cab in a trade. It is a ST100A 100W all tube. 3 channel, 3 position rectifier switch on back to switch from class a, class ab, or solid state. Looking for feedback. Harmony Central doesn't seem too bad on their feedback.

NAD - Peavey Vypyr Guitar Amp 2x12 Combo 120w REVIEW
Debbie's birthday present to me was quite a surprise. BEST modeling amp I have ever heard and the bottom end shakes the house. This is the big Daddy version w/ 120 watts. 6L6GC power tubes and 12AX7A preamp. 24 amp models, 11 stompbox effects (all editable), 11 rack effects also editable, 5 effects at once, 16 second looping, midi and USB for running into the computer. It even has a headphone jack which is a real oddity for a tube amp
WOW, what a killer sounding amp. Sounds great from minimal volume all the way to the max
This amp blows the Line6/Bogner so far away that it is not even funny
I recommend this amp to anyone and that comes highly from me since I am so picky tone wise
Pron in the morning, going back to crush the house
Anyone else get one of these yet?
Here's the deal. I went from a closed back Hughes & Kettner 20W tube combo to a 50W Peavey ValveKing. The Peavey is open back. It seems to have a ton more mid range than my old H & K. Is there a break in period on the tubes? The open back? I played my Vendetta 4.0 w/USA Time Capsules in it tonight. You can see from my signature what my fx are and other guitars are. Am I going to see a dramatic difference from the guitars? Should I go through the fx loop instead of straight in? Or is this just a process of me getting a realistic non-bass laden tone. Everyone says the guitar has to cut through the mix, but it just seems so thin. Sorry for the long winded post, but if I can save a trip back to guitar center I will.
Sweet 11 string instrumental

Watch the whole thing its friggin sweet!
So...I've been talking a lot of shlt about Rectumfriers...
...so I figured I'd give one an honest chance! Me, JohnL, and Wes (THORNLORD, if you remember) had a great time and couple beers today. I told John that his gutless 160 watt 6L6 Triple Rec would cower in fear of my underdog 100 watt EL34 Metaltronix M-1000. Before the verdict, lets have a couple pics of the rigs, huh?
John's weapon of choice:
Scary, no? I ain't skeered!!!!!!
Lee Jackson's best, backed up by German engineering:
Tone? Subjective. I still prefer the Marshallesque flavor of the Metaltronix, with it's chewy high midrange bite, but there can be no arguement with the sheer brutal might of John's Triple Rec. Whereas my M-1000 has a snotty, unbridled snarl, the Recto had a confident, smooth power that mine's attitude just couldn't overcome. Whereas the Metaltronix focuses on treble and midrange like a laser, the Mesa has so much power that my upper midrange and treble cut couldn't take it out. It was a total beating.
I have to say...between the thundering might of the two of us, my eardrums rattled. They had that tickly, "permanent hearing loss" feeling, but he edged me out in a straight volume war. Dammit. Strangely enough, though I was thoroughly beaten, the overall level difference wasn't much. The gap between the 100 and 160 tube watts was a lot less than I had expected.
What have I learned?
1. Good friends and a couple good beers is a nice, relaxed Saturday afternoon.
2. The difference between 100w and 160 really isn't all that much, honestly.
This is me humbly bowing and acknowledging, begrudgingly, that I've been beaten. John: screw you. Next time, it's the Cobra, and if that doesn't work, the frickin Oldsmobile. It's not over.
Kinda Cool Find? Cabinet

I've seen this at the local hock shop for quite some time now, never really thought about a cab. due to my small+$hitty house- not much room. I'm a combo type of guy and a hacker at that. For sheets and giggles I made an offer that would make "Tom 60's" proud! Lo and behold it was accepted! Times are tuff these days I guess? Got it hooked up to my dsl401 and makes it a completly different amp! WOW! I've never seen any Marshall's in "Blue"- now I know that it may be 1 of the 30th anniversary 1's. Can't wait to hook up the Vox to it! Many new tones to explore!

So, I just sold my bass rig, and now I might need one. Any of you low enders have a good reccomendation? The band is loud as %$#@!, and doesn't believe in bass going through the monitors ( Iknow, totally @#$%&$@), so It probably has to be a full stack, I'm thinking 4x10 and 1x15? Then just bring the 4x10 to the smaller clubs?

I have a chance to pick up a mint condition 30th Anniversary trans black ML (Korea), with fitted case, for $300.
Any opinions of whether this is a good deal or not? I know it sells for more, but is it worth the three bills? Good deal, or "fantastic" deal?
Thanks in advance. I'm going to have to scrape around to pull up the unplanned $300, so I want to be sure it's worth the hoop jumping.

Tanking economy claims it's next victim...
I'm in a bad spot, gotta move some gear. There's just no work around here. No sign that there will be anytime soon, either. I'll list the stuff in the trading post when I get the pics back to upload. Lot's of stuff. Dean-wise there'll be a 2007 DOA Hardtail, a new-ish Soltero Standard, two Icon Vibratos, all with hardshell cases. And an Avalanche. From $100 to $475 plus shipping. Might be more stuff too, we'll see. At least spring is coming, warm weather and more oppurtunities.
Man I got a tough one here. I'm looking at swapping Celestions V30's in my B52 cab, just to try. I suppose I could just change out the Carvin speakers in my 2x12 for Texas Heats or maybe them Warehouse Speaker V30 clones and take it from there, but IDK. Anyone looking to get a great price on 4- V30's?
Musician's and ink- Poll and question
Hey Folks,
I know that many of you have plenty of ink.
i am trying to compile some info if you have a second.
1) does the Tattoo Parlor that you go to sell and music related product? Strings, Straps. etc.
2) If they did, would you buy a cool strap, or a set of strings?
Thanks for the input-

Skid Row - 3/15/09
by JohnL on Mon Mar 16, 2009 1:03 pm
Got a call today from a buddy who tells me that the Skids are playing a free show at a local place - turned out to be great evening.
The place is called The Slide Bar (http://www.myspace.com/theslidebar). Got there and made a B line for the bar to get a New Castle ( ) and then headed to the stage to see what was going on. The guitar player from Revolution Mother was up on stage rocking a Dean Z!
Revolution Mother rocked the house - had a pit going with their driving riffage. Guitar was going thru an Orange Amp and cab - didn't see where the gain was coming from but it sounded great. Talked to their guitar player after he got off stage, dude named Jason. Turns out he's a Dean artist - naturally, I whip out some pictures of my 80V. Turns out he's had his particular Z for some years. Good conversation - told him to start posting on the Dean Guitar Forums.
Retired outside for a few when we ran into a Gene Simmons impersonator. Here's my friend Irene with said dude (whos that dude with the goat that happened to be walking by in the background? )
Next up - Skid Row. First song I learned how to play on guitar? Youth Gone Wild. I love the Skids, they rocked with Bach, and continue to rock without him. Scotti and Dave are great guitar players and write great music. End of story.
Opened up with Big Guns
Dave and Scotti played a guitar duo - one would solo while the other would kick it - bass player and drummer keeping a beat. Both guitar players were using JCM800s and just a few effects on the ground. They pulled tone out of those amps like I couldn't believe - used to have a JCM800 and it NEVER sounded that good. Both dudes were pulling off sick pinch harmonics with smooth vibrato like they did back in the day.
Rachel Bolan got on the mic to belt out Psycho Therapy. Did a damn good job too sans punkrock nose to ear chain.
After the show, the Skids hung out with the rest of the folks at the bar and chatted. I started rapping with Scotti after getting a pic with him (friend has it on her phone - we'll see if gets here or not). Anyway, I told him Youth Gone Wild was the first song I learned how to play on guitar. He said he was stoked and then pointed out that most people didn't know the correct way and showed me how to fret the riff on his right forearm. I told him to grab his guitar and I'd show him I knew what was up.
Busted out a pic of my favorite Dean 1980 V and show it to him, he said he'd have trouble seeing it without his glasses - he really takes a look - "Oh, a Dean V!" - you can't even see the headstock in the picture I showed him. He told me of his fond memories of the 80's Dean guitar advertising - we agreed on the Water V. Good guy, good conversation, lots of laughs.
Turned out to be a really great evening. Will post more pics when I get them.
Cheers!
P.S. The Slidebar is a NICE venue. Clean, good PA, quick bartenders, nice selection, nice crowed - the security were even cool. I plan on going back there often.

How exactly do I run 2 8 ohm cabs together? Just one wire per side of the amp to each cab? Also, where do I get the harness kit for cabs?
Anybody have one of these or the MG50DFX? Thoughts? I just went through amp hell this weekend. Bought a Peavey ValveKing 1X12, sounded good in store, sucked at house. Took it back Sunday got pushed into Line 6 Spider III. Didn't sound bad, but you gotta be computer freak to know how to operate. I'm a pedal guy, simpler better. So today I return that piece. I tried the MG100DFX (yeah I know it's solid state) but it blew the Peavey away. Solid back, celestion, cheesey on board fx I'll never use. But the built OD's aren't bad. The clean was nicer than a Fender I was looking at too. I can't afford a ENGL, or tube Marshall yet, but this is pretty close sound wise. FYI
Ok which amp... im so confused
well i am about to sell my current amp and im looking for another one. ive got it narrowed down to three: Marshall Jcm800 2203KK, Engl Fireball, and a Framus Cobra. i can get them all pretty much for the same price used and i was wondering if anyone has ever used any of these and what they are like. I am going to have to blind buy the amp because there is no where i can try out these amps. Also i play songs comparable to LOG, Shadows Fall, and Chimaira, my guitar is a gibson sg supreme with livewires
So I weighed my Soltero...
... 10.3lbs!
I question if it is a chambered Soltero... it doesn't resonate loudly like a chambered guitar would, so I am at a loss!
Can anyone toss in weights of a Chambered and Unchambered Soltero USA, one of the 100 in the limited runs perhaps?

Got my Nikon D60 today w/18-55 lens and a 55-200 Lens. I've been messing around with it for 20 minutes. So here is a random shot of my DOA ML to show off its high quality-ness. I'll take some more pics later. Right now I have to go eat dinner, with my new girlfriend(going to Wick's Pizza the best frippin place to get pizza in the world). So any way here is one pic. Keep in mind I was about 20ft from my Guitar when I took this.
I just got wrath and was wondering how I mix the bass and drum parts on the bonus CD. This way I can play the guitar to them. I have Dell musicmatch. Is this possible?
MXR Flanger / Doubler for sale FULL WORKING order
Hey dudes.. I've finally decided that I dont need it.. I NEVER use it due to the fact that its 110V (USA) and I live here in the UK..
I'm LOVING my tone atm and I only ever use Reverb... I've never been big on effects... so TBH if anyone wants it they can have it..
AT A PRICE!!!
I'm looking for a minimum starting point of 200 Dollars minus shipping.. if people show some interest then place your offeres in here and the highest offer at the end of this week (up to Friday) or something like that will get it... I'll accept PAYPAL / Direct Payment to my Bank Account and when thats gone through I'll send the MXR over to you.. I would put it on EBAY but I cant be @#%$@!!& with all the charges.. I'm genuine and I use the same name on everything.. so if I @#%$@!!& anyone over here.. my name would be tarnished on every site Im on... Youtube, Ebay, Myspace, Facebook, Dean Forum, Marshall Forum etc...
and the last thing you should know is theres no plug... just a power cable with the 3 wires.. piece of piss to get a plug.. but obviously a 3 pin wont work here as its 240V and the MXR is 110V..
and lastly if I get a better offer elsewhere (my local guita shop advert) then I'll sell it on and reserve the right to do so with the security that I will update you here should that happen...
Have fun and happy offering
Joe
A box showed up at the door today.
Hmmm...Bogner?

So this is what its all about? Nope, its whats inside that makes this thing sing, and sing it does. Very awesome sounding. This combined with a mesa 2:90 = wow. Can do everything from grunge to thrash. The Shark channel, if modded with a little extra gain and a mid boost would hold up against any modern gain amp that is available today. Might need to get an OD pedal for this. Very unique gain structure on that channel. Shes a keeper.
Anyone else here a fan? I might go see them on may 5th. I just love their songs. Sexdictator lucifer is a genious song!
I have a half stack tube amp that I rarely play because I can't crank the volume to where I want it in the house, so I mostly play off a smaller amp (Orange Crush). I need an attenuator.
That said... Does anyone know if these are any good? Price is definitely where I need it to be, but I'd rather hear from someone who's had experience using them if they will do the job or not.

Installation price?
by AhsanU on Tue Mar 17, 2009 3:01 am
Hey guys, I'm the proud owner of an Agile Interceptor 7 (which I'll be receiving tomorrow!)
I felt the need to modify the guitar in anyway possible to make it an even more amazing guitar. So what I've decided to do to it is give it an Original Floyd Rose, and some new Seymour Duncan blackouts Phase 2, which are a direct replacement for the EMG 707's.
I went to Guitar Center today, and asked their tech how much the installation will be. He quoted me 90 dollars for the pickups, and around 150-200 for the Floyd Rose replacement. The Agile guitar comes with a Licensed Floyd, so there shouldn't be any major tweaking involved in replacing the bridge.
I'm pretty sure it's a rip-off.
I'm going to check out Sam Ash and Manny's tomorrow, and see how much they're going to charge. I can't do this sort of thing myself, so I need someone to do it for me. Is 90 bux for a pickup replacement too expensive? What about 150-200 for an OFR replacement?
Thanks guys.

Gawd Damn!
I am sooo into this song right now. Intro solo's are friggin wicked, and the riffs are so badas s.
Such an epic song. Totally pumps me up.
This maybe a below 70 IQ type question....
but i'll ask anyways. How do you get a southern rock tone out of a guitar, is there a tuning? cause i can not find a southern rock sound tune. Now i love the south and i love southern rock i really want to know what tuning it is. can anyone help me?
I'm looking for the Dimebag black ribbon patch HELP!
I been looking everywhere can not find it and i want it so i can sew on my rebel flag leather vest. Does anyone know where to buy one besides EBAY and besides sites that are related to ebay cause i hate Ebay. sorry if i asked this in the wrong section i wasn't sure.
A technic to deal ...
by HugoLC on Tue Mar 17, 2009 2:26 pm
So I wanna know if some of you have technics to deal the price on guitar at shops ....
Last week I made a thread on Dean Caddy 1980 and after all the response I got and I found that a USA TC Caddy was $2649.99. by BRG and the shop near me sell the 1980 : 799 $ ...and that' why I'd like to know how much they sell the TC Caddy ...if they tell me a price who's too expensive , is the price that BRG gave me can get lower ?
and all is too high I'll go with a 1980 upragged by a luthier I think it will be a great guitar
PS all price are Canadian
How do you file a damage claim w/ UPS?
by Graunke on Tue Mar 17, 2009 9:00 pm
I called the phone number, and of course, "to report that UPS has f'd up one of your packages press 1" isn't an option.
So I tried every combination of menu options and I can't get a real person or anything close to file a claim.
Any suggestions? Wait for my UPS driver and piss pound him?
Making your own cables
by xixor on Tue Mar 17, 2009 9:29 pm
Yo, I am doing a pedal board for myself and I need to make about 15 short cables of various sizes, 1" to 15" in length, some with 90 degree connectors, some straight. It is way too expensive to get these made locally, and buying pre-made cables won't allow me to customize the length and ends to fit exactly just so in my board. Also looking to be able to repair my pile of about 20 broken or or dubious patch cables.
Can anyone recommend some brands of connectors and cable? Sure I can use GeorgeL's or Bullets, but looking to see if anyone can recommend something that works well and doesn't break the bank. Also, any other tools that are needed besides wire cutters, strippers and a soldering iron?
Thanks,
xixor
Me and some buddies from school are starting the band thing(well, we have had it started but we havent had any songs yet). We know what our first song we will cover is. What do ya'll think about "Blugeoned to Death" by Suicide Silence? That is our first cover song. If we get lucky, we will do it at the school assembly. I doubt they will let us though! I am very excited. This is one of my favorite songs!!!!

Ya gotta take care of Life ya know? Why not have some fun with old friends in between too right? I blew off getting the usual stuff done this week so I could scoot up to Jacksonville Sunday morning to deliver a Hamer Import and hangout with some friends I've had for over 27 years. Worked my way back home Monday after spending Sunday afternoon telling lies, playing guitar licks, and recalling Glory Days as Bruce says in a song.
As we sat down to a meal of Salad, Steaks from the Grill, and Mashed Sweet Potatos ,we paused to go up on the third story balcony to watch the shuttle blast off sunday evening too. Forgot all about it happening and didn't have a camera. Jax is 100 miles at best North of the launchpad. We watched it for a longtime and could even see the moment the twin tanks blasted off. No binoculers either.
After I got home Monday and today I have knocked out a few odd jobs around the house. In between, I have had to move guitar cases around to get a few things done, and of course I had to play a few including a special guitar for today.
I had a Schulte Les Paul Junior out with a SWEET Duncan P90 3 Bridge pickup. WOW P90s RAWKS!!! Who wants to do an old Aerosmith tune with me next DOA? I'll use the Goldtop EVO60 though. I had it outtoday too. The Schulte. WOW!!! I finally restrung the high E David Smith whacked at DOA this year. I think Bangus Young and he were Freakin' trying to see which one of them was gonna explode on that song, The P90 Z stood up to the big guy for a while, Let There Be Rawk INDEED!!!
I had some old Hamers out too, a '79 Sunburst, a '80 Special, and an '81 Special. MMMM MMM Good! Played each for about 10 minutes this afternoon. Life Is Good!!
What would a chore day be without some Vs too right? Had my DOA Goldtop V and a '97 Korina Arpeggio Prototype V out. That Arpeggio is Slick. Every bit a '58 V dimension wise and LOUD! LOUD! LOUD!!! The Duncan '59s in it are dang F.I.N.E.!!!!
Ah, ya know me, and you know I have not left out my "Explorer" friends either. My '79 Z and '79 Hamer Standards were a good part of 4pm-5pm along with my Trans Yellow '01 Hamer Standard. After I post this I'm ending the evening before I get ready for work by playing MGZ, my Trans Green Z Korean Import.
Godzilla anyone?
I LOVE Guitars!!!!
only got the body and electronics so far......wanna stick some Knuckles in it
later

I was in GC yesterday and picked up a RB Cemetery Gates. I am not afraid to say that I totally sucked on it. That had the sharpest, fatest, shittiest neck I think I've ever played (on a not s#%t guitar). Not trying to hate on em here, cuz I loved the 255 neck I played in the same store. I was definitely more than the scale length change that caused problems, I could feel the super sharp v neck. /end rant

I hate you all.
Here are a few clips of Alice in Chains working on their new album: http://www.aliceinchains.com/blog.html It's mostly footage of the guys goofing off, but there are a few snippets of some new tunes on there worth listening to. Layne is sorely missed, he's irreplaceable, but I'm glad the rest of the guys are moving on. I know William Duvall is taking Layne's vocal role, but I was disappointed to see him playing guitar on the new record. I was hoping that would be all Jerry. I'm still looking forward to this album more than any other this year. In the new GW, Jerry said this one's going to be "bone crushingly heavy."
Speaking of Jerry in GW, he also mentioned that he will have a signature G&L axe released in the next year. He says he still uses his old G&Ls more than anything else, which I guess might be part of the reason he didn't seal the deal with Dean on his proposed Soltero sig. I did see a Schenker V sitting in his guitar rack on one of the clips, though.
Anyone in the LA area have room?
I am going to be coming to the LA area soon for an audition and some networking and don't want to have to take the hit on a week or 2 worth of hotel room charges. I also may need to borrow a guitar. lol Yeah asking for a lot but I don't want to fly with my stuff till I know if I am relocating permanently. So if any of you have a dusty couch or your dog has room on his pillow bed hit me up. I need to be able to access Hollywood pretty easily if that helps location wise. Thanks in advance.
Does anyone know if this ML is available as a fixed bridge, string through setup, or only w/Floyd's?

Holy s#%t super clean condition 1983 Tokai Strat, Batman!
by Blazer on Wed Mar 18, 2009 5:35 pm
It took me three months and the selling of a couple guitars including my ESP Eclipse but I finally have her in my collection and it feels good.
Super clean, I doubt I will ever find another in such a condition and for the price I paid for it.
A little play wear but original downright to the three-way switch and every single screw. This 26 year old guitar looks NEW.
Even the "Made in Japan" sticker is still there, it's unbelievable.
And the best of it all, it's MINE!
WOLF new album streaming! Deans + Heavy Metal!

We're sharing our new album with you all. Recorded with Dean V's US release is 24:th March!!!
Here's the Press-release:
Heavy metal beasts WOLF have released their masterly new album “Ravenous” all across Europe on February 23rd (US release date: March 24th, 2009) and if you should still hesitate to buy this maximum metal massacre, you can now listen to the entire album for one week exclusively at:

Here's Why:
“”Ravenous” is a Colossus of a metal album perhaps the best thoroughbred progeny of the genre we are going to hear this year or next. […] In 2009 it might just do for traditional metal what Airbourne did last year for classic hard rock.”
KKKK / KKKKK, Kerrang (UK)
“Grunge? Alternative? Nu Metal? Metalcore? Not in the world of WOLF! Their new slab of smashing metal tracks breathes the spirit of old Iron Maiden and Mercyful Fate while sounding refreshing and captivating.”

amp recommendations
by Dooom on Wed Mar 18, 2009 10:21 pm
I'm looking into upgrading my amp. Right now I have a Marshall AVT50X combo, which is decent but requires boost from a metal zone to get a good tone, which causes a lot of excess noise (even with a noise gate). I already know of the 5150/6505. Just looking for others to keep my options open. I'm not quite sure what my budget will be because this is just an idea right now, but nothing more than like 1200 dollars most likely.

Is this old news?
Anyway it's on the German ebay now.
I'm gonna be bored this summer...
So I've decided to experiment with customizing guitars. I have a cheap Squier strat that I learned on and it hasn't seen the light in over a year. I don't want it to just collect dust, so I thought I'd give it an overhaul. Probably just a paintjob. So any suggestions?
