Dean Vendetta 2.0 with floyd rose Review by my friend
by REBELfromHELL on Wed Apr 01, 2009 12:33 pm
This is what a friend told me about the Dean Vendetta 2.0 with floyd rose. So those of you who wondered about the 2.0 here's my friend's opinion on it.

Hey,
nice that you watch my vids Wink
So let me think about it. Maybe the good things first Razz
The look if this guitar is simply amazing. The camo thing looks better in real than in videos.
For sure the whammy bar and the double lock system are big pluses. You have to pull and press it very hard to kill the tuning Very Happy
Also the standard pick ups in the guitar are very powerfull. I was flashed when I heard them first 'cause of the price I didn't think that that power comes out of those things Very Happy But, it does.
So, what bad things? Maybe the problem with tuning the guitar? Razz It's like every other guitar with this system a little complicating but I think that's not really a problem at all Wink
The only thing I have to say is that the neck is a bit "slow" if you know what I mean. But you can work with that easiely ^^
For this "little" price you can't get a better guitar for heavy music I think.

You can do squeals, screams, dive bombs and everything else you want to do. It's no problem with the guitar.

So I can say, *THUMPS UP* for the Dean Vendetta! Very Happy

Slick guitar. Smokes my Agile in playability, due largely to the fact that Lo-Pro7 trems are incredible.

Recently got my new bogner all hooked up and paired it with a mesa 2:90. I have been noticing that there is something wrong. Whenever I do some heavy palm mutes or alternate speed picking, the definition is gone. It turns very mushy so speak. Instead of the normal chungk, chungk, chungk. Im getting a muffled type sound instead. Could this be a tube problem Im having becasue everything else is fine, notes are clear as day, chords ring out nice and clear with definition. Any of you tube guys have an idea what might be going on here?

I made a thread a while back when I preordered a Mesa Mark V. Well things have changed in the last month and I had to pull my deposit, thankfully the shop was very cool about it and gave me a full refund. Maybe I'll pick one up later in the year, but for now I decided to get an older Mark series to mess around with. I found a good deal for a "no stripe" Mark III on the bay. Non simul class, no EQ, modded for a reverb tank @ mesa boogie. First impression was a big let down. Very flubby lead and R2. I fiddled for about 20 minutes, then took a break from it. I came back to do some knob turning again, then I finally started dialing in some good lead tones. I think I'll invest in a graphic EQ for the loop, it can use some fine tuning that the bass, mid, and treble can't get to, even with all the push pull's. All in all I'm happy with it and will definately get back to dialing it in. My kids are napping ATM too, so I haven't had the opportunity to really crank it up either. I could pull an April fool's and leave out the pron, but there's enough fool's day threads already. I don't tease with the pron, I put out on the first post Wink

NCD Marshall Content
by Rampage on Wed Apr 01, 2009 10:52 pm
Just grabbed a '79 Marshall 1960A loaded with the original Celestion G12-65s. I have tried the Heritage version before, however there is just this little bit of extra mojo in the originals. It probably has to do with the 30 year break in period, or it could just be the honeymoon. So far I am really liking how rich and full the tone is with these speakers. I probably wouldn't use them for death metal, but so far I have jammed along with some Zappa and some King Diamond and I felt as if the 65s fit perfectly for both.

Now I just need to get an old JMP 2203/2204!

I grabbed a quick picture, but I was too lazy to #$%@ the blinds. Sun spots (or ghosts?) ahoy!

Good set of head phones for jammin' at night?

Is there a kind of guitar shape that really fits you?
by Blazer on Thu Apr 02, 2009 2:52 am
I guess it's a thing of trial and error when you're looking for the perfect guitar and often it takes many years to make sure that you've found the right one the one where you'd go "Yeah, this is me."

In my own case, the kind of guitar I owned the most examples of in last ten years was the SG, I still own the very first one I got, a cheap no-name plywood body number which I got from somebody by buying him a beer.

my second SG was a Trevor Wilkinson designed Vintage Branded number, it was Cherry red, based on the 1961 SG, lovely guitar but with a lacklustre sound. I sold it to my buddy Jack T. who's now in my band.

My Third SG was my self made "Fido" which I made from using leftover Oak floor panels and pine from a table, I bolted on a surplus Telecaster neck and adding Dimarzio pickups, I still have it.

My fourth SG was an LTD Viper, with that one it was a case of complete certainty that I wouldn't keep it, I loved the way it played (I'm still convinced that ESP makes the best budget guitars out there) but I hated the 24 fret neck and the resulting sound of an alder body.

My fifth SG was a 2004 Gibson SG standard, instant Angus, was a cool guitar that was, and it sounded so good but what I didn't like was the fact that the wider neck profile didn't suit my playing style, I have since tried out many SG's in shops and found out that the more upmarket versions all come with that wide neck and as such I'm more akin to go for the cheaper SG special if I'll buy a Gibson again.

My sixth SG was an Epiphone G400 that I could buy cheap because the neck had broken off, I repaired it but it never matched the roar that the Gibson had. I sold it to our bassplayer Ade, who smashed it.

My Seventh SG is my 30 bucks Morris SG copy, which is a very cool Japanese copy with a very distinct sound. I still have it.

My eighth SG is the modified metallic blue SG custom which has three vintage DiMarzio pickups. I have used it on all of the recordings of my band's upcoming release "The last men standing" and I'm really falling in love with it.

So why the SG then?
Well it's mostly the comfort issue, the bevels make for a guitar that feels almost flush with your body. There are no sharp edges like there are with a bound top on a Les Paul, SG's are light, they are dependable and because of the thinner body than a Les Paul have more highs in the overall sound which makes for a more versatile sound.
Peavey Windsor? anyone know about these?
by rxkid75 on Thu Apr 02, 2009 3:14 am
http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Peavey-Windsor-All-Tube-Half-Stack?sku=485059

So here's the deal, I'm really wanting a new amp. I've got a POS Raven 20w solid state for noodling around on, and I've got a Crate V50 tube for whenever I'm gonna play for an extended period or jam with my friends. The Crate V50 is a tube amp, and has a nice clean channel but the dirty channel sucks. So when I'm using it I basically go with my pedals thru the clean.

Anyway, I'm lookin for a amp that has a decent sound for classic rock, but with some versatility. I thought a half-stack would be cool, since I'm looking at a new house that has a badass basement, and a stack would completely go with the decor, so my fiance' would be cool with the purchase.

I saw this on musiciansfriend.com and it intrigues me, but alas no shop around me has them to go try one out, so I'm looking for some advice. Thanks
bolt on,set neck or neck thru.
by Anonymous on Thu Apr 02, 2009 6:45 am
I myself like bolt on necks they are the easiest to work on and with and to adjust.

And of god forbid you brake the head or neck it's easy to replace.

Set necks can sometimes be replaced but 8 times out of ten you will damage the body trying to remove the broken neck.
If that happens then if it's not to bad it becomes a bolt on guitar and yes I have done this .
Sometimes you can have problems with a new guitar if the neck was set badly and most of the time it's not easily diagnosed as a badly set neck.

Neck thru to me sound the best because the strings are attached at both ends to the same piece or wood.
But they are very expensive to repair.

This is from a repair point of view I not only play guitar I rebuild and repair guitars.

One of the best guitar players i bet youve never heard of...
by jimihendrix1117 on Thu Apr 02, 2009 5:31 pm
at least before ive mentioned him on the forum that is. his name is Daita Itou (he just goes by Daita) he was the lead guitar player for a band called Siam Shade who is prolly one of the famous bands in japans history before they broke up from what ive heard? Their music style varied pretty much from each album. IMO hes in the same league as steve vai, paul gilbert, and tony macalpine in terms of technical skill and musicianship.

if you like metal then check out these links (yes i realize the singer sounds kinna like a woman..just listen to the lead guitar):

DMT Pickups (opinions wanted)
by Høgger'n on Fri Apr 03, 2009 3:53 pm
Hey guys.

I've got a Soltero MHG on order a trying to decide what PUPs to go with.
Right now I'm looking at the LWMOT for the bridge but I'm not sure what to put in the neck.
Both the Nostalgia and the Flathead look interesting.
As you probably can tell, I'm not going for a metal tone here. I want something versatile.
The TC has some appeal too as the can do coil splitting.

So anyone with experience with these and the other DMT pickups are welcome to chime in.

Anyone Need A Dirt Cheap MT-2 Clone? Or A CE-5 Chorus Clone?
by Altec on Fri Apr 03, 2009 7:24 pm
I was looking on DIYstompboxes a couple weeks ago, and someone posted these. I picked up the Distortion for $11. It's not bad. The Distortion is supposed to be a MT-2, but with a parametric mid range. I didn't get the Chorus, I don't really use those sorts of pedals. It is supposed to be a CE-5 though.

Help with my Floyd
by rxkid75 on Sat Apr 04, 2009 3:01 am
Ok, so I'm a noob when it comes to floyds. I dropped my RB V255 off at my local guitar shop for a setup last week because the E and A string were buzzing, especially on the 1st thru 7th frets. So they called me today and told me it was done. Charged my 68 bucks and when I get it home, the strings are still buzzing. They adjusted the floyd, and the pickups, and I really dont want to mess things up completely undo the work I payed for.

Should I drop it back off to them, or does it sound like I have bigger problems?

Weird guitar related thoughts
by Steel City Psycho on Sat Apr 04, 2009 4:42 pm
I was just wondering if you guys have any weird guitar related thoughts, and maybe if some you other guys may know the answers to some of them.

Like one of the things I've always wondered is about string gauges.

Most every brand, Ernie Ball, D'Addario, Dean markley, DR, you name it, use the same gauges for standard 9's, 10's and 11's.

9-11-16-24-32-42

10-13-17-26-36-46

11-14-18-28-38-48

If you notice, the difference between 10's and 11's by gauge is

1-1-1-2-2-2

But the difference between 9's and 10's by gauge is

1-2-1-2-4-4

So why isn't a set of 9's

9-12-16-24-34-44?

Or how on earth does Kirk Hammett have signature guitars, a signature amp, but not have a sig wah pedal?

Does he have an endorsement or anything? I heard somewhere that ESP is making him a sig, but I see more videos of him playing his Gibson V's or the BC Rich Warlock.

An Ibanez fixer upper Les Paul...
by Blazer on Sat Apr 04, 2009 6:29 pm
Last week attended a vintage guitar fair where I bought a rather unfortunate victim of eighties "let's make it look metal" ethic. Believe it or not but this WAS an early seventies Ibanez Les Paul Custom copy with the lawsuit "open book" headstock. It has three dimarzio pickups and again was fitted with "Everything-and-the-kitchen-sink-is-also-included" switching options. But for 75 Euro's I didn't consider it a bad deal, there's a lot of usable parts on this one.
Image
Image

Well I removed that Junk from the Ibanez' top revealing THIS.
Image

As you can see it had a couple of home applied (rattle can) re-finishes which also covered the body bindings. Also, as I suspected, the middle pickup is not original and the hole is rather crudely made.

Now if I were crazy...
Image

Nah, I'm gonna fix this puppy up properly.

ngd: old MIJ Ibanez acoustic F 360
by 3cardcannon on Sat Apr 04, 2009 10:08 pm
My b'day is in a few days so my wife let me snag this up. I've been looking for a decent acoustic on the cheap and here it is. The finish is scratched pretty nastily in a few spots but it's really not in bad for an '82. Full body abalone binding, m.o.p. inlays and an ugly flower print on the pickguard.

The neck was backbowed pretty bad but 1/4 turn of the rod has it nearly flat, I'll take another 1/8 turn tomorrow. It is very full sounding, but I think some lighter strings are in order. The frets are a bit worn but no dead spots, just one small ding on the high e, 4th fret. It sucks, but I can work around it.

Anybody familiar with these? seems like it was a real beauty when it was new. Too bad it wasn't well taken care of but it has held up well to the abuse it's seen.

Fender HeavyMetal Head
by shupe13 on Sun Apr 05, 2009 12:43 am
Yes, I tried the search function. 16,941 matches. Of the first 10 or so nada. So here goes... Does anyone here own the HM now, previously own one or has anyone spent a reasonable amount of time using one?

I was at my local guitar shop this week and spent a good amount of time noodeling around on a Peavey Valveking 212. I really like the amp, so much so that I may have my bro order me the 100w head and cab. I can get both for around $800.

While online I found the Fender HM head for $900 give or take. Can't remember the exact amount. I know its considerably less than it used to be. The only thing is that I have not seen one, played through one or know anyone who has. Hell, I don't believe I've ever heard good or bad things about the amp. I'm guessing they aren't too popular.

If I were to get the HM, at 550w at 2ohms or 4ohms, whatever it is, I don't think the cab I have could handle it. I'm guessing another $500 + to get the correct cab. Tell me what you think.

Yes, I do realize the Peavey is tube and the HM is solid. No, I do not gig. And I do realize that I need to play the amp myself.

Sorry, just wanting to cut down on the useless BS that normally comes with such a question. Thanks in advance.

OK I'm bored. Here is a list of the Deans I feel I must own. All are imports because I'm lacking in the banking department, I'm not a pro and its not an investment. I want them just because.

Razorback Explosion (I have)
Dixie Rebel (June)
DFH (August/September)

Razorback V 255 Explosion
SplitTail
MAB1 ArmorFlame
FBD Tribute ML (I want this to hang up)

See the pattern here?

I think if I can aquire all of these in the next year or two, all will be well. OK, I know, its a disease.

I think most kids my age these days just think it's cool to use a floyd by picking a note and whacking the s#%t outta the trem... Brad Gillis just takes it to a new level, he uses it for expression, and vibrato techniques.

If more people learned to use their bar like this, I think we'd have some more kids with a future. Razz JK JK JK, but this is some pretty good stuff! Enjoy fellas!

As some of you may or may not know, I am a avid Mushroomhead fan and so I was on the intraweb thingie here, and decided to see what Jay Mann has beenup to nowadays(one of Mushroomhead's original singers), and I found some stuff that he had done with Ryan Dunn(JACKASS, ViVa La Bam, yeah that dude, LoL), called the alter boys, pretty cool electronica type metal, and then I found this little gem called PITCH BLACK FORECAST, I was quite happy with what found, it's good stuff, Very heavy, almost in the same vein as Mushroomhead's earlier stuff(I.E. Superbuick, XX, so on and so forth) but a bit more guitar driven metal, So if anyone wants to check em out, feel free to check out their myspace here, www.myspace.com/pitchblackforecast and here's the link for the alter boys myspace http://www.myspace.com/alterboys216, spread and enjoy. A Dean and a Carvin. Oh and my new USA RC7!!!
by TheMetalHobbit on Sun Apr 05, 2009 6:43 pm
First of all I just wanted to say that I just got my new Dean USA Rusty Cooley signature model yesterday and I could not be happier, I can barely put it down to type this! But now I have another choice dilemma. I have decided indefinitely to sell my Jackson Soloist after seeing how much Dean USA's kill. So what I am deciding between now is the new Dean USA ML without the paint (I can equip it with Seymour Duncan Blackouts as well with the money from the Jackson) and a custom (to my specs) from Carvin. I know that I will love the Dean but the Carvin sounds like it would be really sweet to, but then again they must be underground for a reason =\. What do you guys think?
Cracked neck Soltero fixed
by Jag Panzer on Sun Apr 05, 2009 7:31 pm
When I got over to Italy it appeared that my Scary Cherry Soltero had a finish crack at the nut area.

When I got home there was a larger crack on the other side of the neck. I took it in to the guy that fixes my guitars. He thought it was a finish crack but he wanted to hold onto the guitar to check it out.

It ended up not being a finish crack. Sad Sad Sad Sad

I ended up having my buddy fix it. He did an amazing job. The guitar feels and plays great.

What's interesting is that the Scary Cherry was the only Soltero I had in a regular case. My other Solteros were in flight cases. The airline trashed the Scary Cherry case Sad

I know other guys who have flown many times with a normal case and had no problems. I'm not flying international without a flight case anymore.

The worst guitar you own but just can't get rid of.
by Blazer on Mon Apr 06, 2009 12:31 am
Let's talk about the guitar you just couldn't get right with, the one that had you tear your hair out of in frustration and even more so when you realize that you just can't sell it on because of one reason or another.

In my own case that would be the "Misty"
Image

The Misty (named after the Pokémon character) was my very first built where I did everything, routing the neck, doing the frets, everything. It also was a guitar from my own original design, I wanted a Firebird/Jazzmaster/Gibson RD hybrid and in that aspect it came out really good. I also really loved the way it felt and played, it has large scoops on both the front and back of the basswood body and the body also because of being made from basswood also was light as a feather and I nailed replicating the feel of the neck of my old strat

But I quickly found out that the Misty's sound wasn't at all what I expected it to be. I have since had this experience with several other guitars with basswood bodies. I don't like the sound I get with them. In the case of the Misty I tried everything: Dimarzio pickups, Duncan Pickups, EMG pickups, I never get it to sound right.

And there are two reasons why I cannot sell the Misty.

1. it's my first all self made guitar.
2. Nobody wants to buy a self made guitar no matter how good it is, everybody goes for the brands and the looks of more familiar models. This guitar in particular is too personal to me that nobody else would want it.

by pantera/damageplan on Mon Apr 06, 2009 2:07 am
So last night i played a show at the local bar and it was my first live preformance. So i was really excited, we only had enough time to play three songs. We did two originals and a cover of pantera's hollow. We played hollow last as an attemt to get the crowd into us and it worked all the way up to the solo, for some reason my guitar tech came up during the song and turned my amp down! Oh boy i was really mad and it was to the point were the drums were way louder than my guitar.

What do y'all use?

I'll be buying my first one soon. In 12 years, I've never needed one... but I'm going to soon.

I like quite a few that I've seen. But I'd like to see what y'all use, and why you use the ones you do.

I'll need one that will hold... Line 6 Verbzilla, Digitech Digidelay, Crybaby From Hell, Vox V847-A, ISP Decimator (even though I'll be moving to a rack version in the near future), some sort of tuner (also rack version in the future), Boss Acoustic Simulator and room for a few more.

I play a lot of gigs, so I need something durable and reliable.

in the market for a decent mixing board...
by MarshallLaw on Mon Apr 06, 2009 4:13 am
for 3+ years, my band has been using this ancient mixing board that is probably older than all four of us combined. it's pretty much @#%$@!!&. only 2 of the 10 jacks work, and only one of those lets you adjust the volume. i'm fed up with it and im gonna buy us a new one soon.

i dont need anything fancy, just something for our basement practice spot mostly. we might end up taking to some places we play that dont have their own PA setups (skate parks and whatnot).

basically i just want something that is simple and reliable. we've got good, relatively new speakers, so i just need a board, for under $400.

ive been looking around, and im leaning towards this one: http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Peavey-PV14-Mixer?sku=631369

so throw some recommendations and testimonials my way.
amp head or separate preamp-poweramp
by Dean_Lefty14 on Mon Apr 06, 2009 4:15 am
Okay, i have the Crate GT3500H, i love the tone at low volumes but when its cranked, the humming is unbearable and the cleans are just crackly, i was told this is due to the Solid State, so im looking into tube...

now i was told just to get a new preamp for it, and then i was told to get a new poweramp, then i was told to just ditch the head and get a new preamp and poweramp and then i was told to get a new head cause rack mounted stuff sucks....

i am a horrible tone chaser because i love so many types of music but i also dont know anything about electronics or anything like that, i just know what sounds good.

So... What is your best advice?

Tube or Solid State

Head or Separate Pre-power amps

All in all, i love being able to tweak my tone and i hate effects, i like the raw tone, so i need something that can have an insane boosted high gain lead and then smooth clean and a overdriven style rhythm chan....

And please dont flame, i need to learn sooner or later, help is greatly appreciated
Noise Gate/silencer you use

I use a isp decimator stomp pedal in my loop right now, by far the best small stomp noise supressor.

I'm upgrading to a decimator Prorack g soon when i find one for a good price, so i can cover my loop and the front high quality.

Vox AD30VT, NAD, Question?
by farbeyonddriven3 on Mon Apr 06, 2009 1:22 pm
Does anyone have a Vox AD30VT or even the 50 watt version? I got one yesterday in a trade. I have a good pedal board so I was running the amp dry w/none of the built in FX on the boutique clean setting. My layout on the board is TUner>Wah>MT2 Distortion>NS2 Noise Reduction>CE5 Chorus>Digidelay>10 BAnd EQ. I had a terrible noise w/my Dime-O-Flame (Dimebucker). THe NS2 wouldn't cure it totally. I wound up having to turn down the gain in the distortion pedal to help. On my Crate I don't have this situation. Any problems like this, or help you can ofer would be great.

The early/mid 80's were a great time for music for me - had such a diverse collection of bands to listen to Triumph, Metallica, Priest, Slayer, Anvil, Maiden, Sabbath, Venom, Motorhead and it was call just called metal and I liked it. Laughing Cool

Anyone ever play a Marshall 6100?
by milje on Tue Apr 07, 2009 8:27 pm
I can't find a whole heck of a lot on the Marshall 6100 amps online for some reason. Guitar Center has a used 6100 30th Anniversary, but it's 250 miles away and I'd like to know if it would be worth my time to go check it out one of these weekends.

I didn't do a helluva lot of research on my TSL before I bought it (mostly because I found out it was there and went and tried it), sounded good in the store compared to everything else I tried for the price, but it seems like a lot of people prefer the DSL to the TSL. Once I start to crank on the lead channel there is a pretty good hum going, and it's kind of fuzzy. Don't get me wrong, I like the TSL, but I have a feeling I'm going to have to put a few hundred into it to get rid of some of the fuzz. I'm looking for something that's not so harsh. Also the footswitch for the TSL is a pile (I bought a brand new one and it was DOA), and in a week of searching I found one guy that will mod it to use a better cable, but the switches are still crap. The 6100 is MIDI switchable.

Also, if I bought a used piece of gear from one Guitar Center, can I return it to a different one, or does it have to go back to the same place? This is assuming I go pick up this amp.

Ah hell.
by Berserker829 on Tue Apr 07, 2009 10:54 pm
So I opened up the truss rod cavity on my Slime to check it out and work it out to see if that killed my sudden fret buzz when I find that some of the wood near the the truss rod has splintered off and is just holdign there. Ok, not to bad, nothing detrimental I thought. I adjust the neck, and still have buzz. Finally today I was fed up with the buzz and went in to check the nut out. The screws aren't perfectly secure. I took a tooth pick and put it in the hole to test how deep it was and bam, the splinter wiggled, not dramatically but even the smallest bit means that it's connected to the screw hole dilemma. What do ya'll think? I'm gonna check the neck pup cavity and see if I can make my already crappy week even worse by noticing something I haven't noticed before.

I gotta eat some crow here. When I laid my eyes on this guitar (belongs to my daughter's boyfriend) I thought it was the worst POS I had ever seen. He even said so. I had just given him my Johnson Delta Rose as a gift. I knew he had a couple of cheapass guitars and told him to bring them with him and I'd give them a good setup and cleaning. He showed up with this old bolt on Jackson V and a bolt on ESP 100FM. I had never given the ESP even a second look at stores before. I am very impressed with the ESP. Very impressed. Solid construction and far far better tone from the pickups than I ever expected. Gotta look into getting one. The V really blew me away though. It's every bit as ratty as the pictures make it look but my God the sound that comes out of this thing! The volume knob is mounted on a piece of cardboard! No name humbucker. I took it out to look because I figured it HAD to be some big name pickup. Nope, nothing. The tuners are absolutely useless but other than that I'm changing nothing on this guitar. I may not even clean the fretboard, just polish the frets. This thing just blows me away. I've been playing it the last hour while I had the house to myself and just chunk chunking away! NHD - NAD - NFD - I'll explain later....
by PoolGuyFromHell on Wed Apr 08, 2009 12:47 am
New House day , New Amp day , New Ufkin day in general .... lol
I've been absent for a couple o weeks , probably not noticed by many , but anyways - I moved to a new house. Not "new" but new to me ....
Just before we started the packing up , I ran across a killer craigslist deal , a Crate 120 watt head for 30 bucks and 2 Kustom cabinets that held three 15's each , but they were speakerless - for a whopping 50 bucks for the pair. I had some crossovers and speakers , so I hooked 'em up - one 15 , one 12 and 2 6's each plus a horn tweeter/eardrum destroyer in the top. I have them wired up to 8 ohms ( 8.7 actually ) so I can run them both off the Crate. My 80 dollar stack from hell -
So I thought....

Then I see another Crate for sale - an Excaliber 90 watt head for 100 bucks , so I bit the bullet and sunk another 100 bucks in. Now I'm up to 180 , but Man! That's a lot of sound for less than 2 bills. - I know... I know... "Crate" , right ? ~~ The clean channel sounds great and my pre-amp gain is NOT coming from the Crates , so it's O.K. Laughing
Here's a shot of the new house and a shot of the stack. I added guitar hangers to the front of both. Twisted Evil The Purple beast is a Bass cabinet that I made for the little woman. It holds two 15's and a 10. A Peavey PA head is the amp. I got some tang that night , for sure. Wink

Wah wah problems...
by heavymetalluke on Wed Apr 08, 2009 4:47 pm
Hi. I'm new to the forum, well, I've been lurking around for a bit without actually posting Wink so I'm not entirely sure that this topic is in the right place, well it seems appropriate.

I am currently using an MXR ZW44 and Jim Dunlop Crybaby with my Razorback, and the amount of gain and overall tone that the wah wah pedal sucks is getting quite annoying.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to remedy this problem. I realise that the wah is not true bypass, so is there any way to modify it so that it is?

Or is there something else I can do?

Any help greatly appreciated!

And this is guitar related because it is site related! Am i the only one here that is bugged by the fact that we have forum members here that daily bump up items that are posted on craigs in the trading forum, the thing is they do not belong to anyone here and we have forum members trying to sell items. it is nice to get a heads up on a good deal but either throw it in here or put it up once in the traders forum and then leave it. why keep bumping it up and driving other members stuff down? and i am sure everyone knows who i am talking about, i tried to be nice and just pm him and explain what was up, but instead of answering he bumped it up again with a smarta@# smile. am i really the only one this bugs?
I've been such a FOOL!
by Harry P. Ness on Wed Apr 08, 2009 7:57 pm
Over the past few months I've realized I've been playing with too much damn gear and it was completely ruining my tone! In front of my VK I had an EQ > OD > EQ > noise gate. In my loop I had EQ > delay > Sonic Stomp. Ridiculous. I could kick myself, but I was completely OCD about pedals. As you can imagine, my sound was thin and hissy. I've since shed all my EQs and I'm thinking about getting rid of my noise gate, too, because the hiss and feedback is now manageable. I don't think I'll be getting rid of my OD or Sonic Stomp as I've a/b'd my rig without them and it sounds bigger, fuller, and tighter with those two in my chain. I'm so happy with my sound now. My mids sound better than ever so I've cranked them to 8 and it's ANGRY! I've got an Eminence Swamp Thang speaker on the way which is supposed to be smooth and clear with lots of low end and sustain. I can't wait to slap that sucker in.

Learn from my mistake, kiddies - simpler IS better!

What was your first electric guitar?
by Blazer on Thu Apr 09, 2009 1:03 am
Well, that's clear enough let's name the P.O.S. guitars we started out on.

In 1988 at my 12'th birthday I decided to spend my hard earned money doing paper routes on an electric guitar and I bought a black Rockson "stage series" Jackson copy, with a pointy headstock and H-S-S set up. I played that plywood monster for a couple of years before I got bored of it and traded it in for another guitar and so my life as a guitar trader had begun.

My latest project. Restoration of an old Ampeg Amplifier
by Graunke on Thu Apr 09, 2009 2:25 am
Here is an old amp that I got when I was a we lad. I proceeded to destroy it as a teenager. Now I have returned it to all it's glory. There is a thread chronicling the entire process if you want to read it. But here are the pics to make it short and sweet.

http://reranch.com/reranch/viewtopic.php?t=25503&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

The amp is an Ampeg Gemini I. The speaker is dated 1967. It is a 2 channel combo with reverb and tremelo built in. I think it's 20 or 30 watts.

This thing is awesome.
I bought the 15 watt ss version for my bedroon. I heard it was better and had more stuff than the line 6 spider III, my current bedroom volume amp.

IT SLAYS THE LINE 6, so now the line 6 must go, i guess i'll sell it.

My friend bought the tube 60 watt Vypyr peavey, and that thing is amazing, there is so much tone in it. Really the price of these amps, i was just in aww to say the least. Even my lil 15 watt vypyr has some close to real tube tone, and can get loud.

GO GET ONE, and if you are a line 6 practice amper, throw that out the window. NO COMPARISON

Ok

As some of you know I just got an ML X .

I did a rock demo .

Now here's a clean laid back Jazz demo .

The ML X is used on the rhythm and lead.

I make racist jokes, i make fun of everyone and everything, i even say things that cross the lines about black slaves or something that crosses the line. I even make fun of myself that even crosses the line. i got all kinds of skin colored friends with different personalities, religion, heritage, etc and we make fun of each other of every little thing even say racist jokes to each other. I guess people are different and take offensive to it. Yeah im an icehole on here for bringing those kind of jokes on here. but in my opinion everyone should crack jokes on everyone for everything even racist jokes but like i said everyone is different. But hey im a re re just trying to learn guitar, make friends, make new people, get along without any problems, etc. I'm sorry for my actions with racist jokes on here so i will no longer say them.

Now say you hate me with your comments cause i know you will say something.

Okay, so I've gone a bit guitar crazy (NGD, lots ' pr0n)
by AhsanU on Thu Apr 09, 2009 8:15 pm
I put links on the pictures cause some of 'em are pretty big

Okay, so let's begin! I've been jonesing for a 7 string guitar for a while. And once Trivium started using them (and I love playing their stuff) I just had to get one. I was looking at the Razorback 7's for so long, that I was seriously about to pull the trigger on one. But then I realized I could spend an equal amount of money and get a guitar that has an OFR as well as a longer scale.

So I went ahead and purchased an Agile 7 Interceptor! This guitar came in around a month and some ago, but due to exams and such I never really got around to playing it too much, let alone posting some pics!

The guitar is great, and plays amazingly. When I originally received it, it was out of tune, had terrible strings, and had an extremely high action. I wanted to modify it (OFR, pickups) but I never had a chance to do it. Luckily I've got an amazing girlfriend who was nice enough to take it to Sam Ash and get them to do it! Sam Ash did a great job installing the Floyd and setting it up. It's almost complete, all that's left is to change the pickups to SD's blackouts (which I'll do myself). I also slapped on some fret inlays, I put on Kirk Hammett's eye of horus inlays in gold. They look awesome!

http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb301/AhsanU/Picture48.jpg

http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb301/AhsanU/Picture47.jpg

Next! As for our 3 year anniversary, my girlfriend got me a DigiTech Jam Man looper pedal. She knows I don't get to play with my friends very often, and as such she got me a pedal so I can harmonize with myself and have a better time playing. But due to my excessively metal tone, the pedal didn't work too well. Sounded all fuzzy and stuff. So I took it back to Manny's and exchanged it for a guitar, and paid the difference. I'll probably be selling this one off, since I kinda want a Soltero. But it looks amazing, nonetheless! The top is simply amazing!

http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb301/AhsanU/IMG_0103-1.jpg

And here's a sloppy picture I took of it the day I got it. Haha, terrible photo skills.

http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb301/AhsanU/IMG_0109.jpg

Lastly, my new Razorback V. I got this today because I plan on painting it and replicating Corey Beaulieu's Blood Angel V. But for now, it's plain and simple. I'll probably replace the LFR with an OFR sometime in a few weeks (after classes are over). I jumped on this guitar because I got it off eBay for 306 bux! There are very few dings on it, and even so it isn't noticeable at all!

So here are a few shots of all my guitars. Enjoy
Very Happy

Mixing active/passive pickups.
by samschett on Thu Apr 09, 2009 10:15 pm
So, whats going on is I am building a gutiar and have three humbuckers in it. What I am thinking of doing is getting an emg for the bridge to get the really high output shredder tomnes but keeping a burstbucker and a carvin m22t in the neck and middle to get the softer, warmer tones. Would this work? If it does work, then I would love to buy an EMG off of someone.

megadeth playing with metallica? slayer?
by Lunatic on Fri Apr 10, 2009 4:08 am
saw daves latest post on the megadeth website

Today is the 9th of April and I have agreed to doing something last night that I am sure a lot of people are going to be very excited about, and something that I had hoped would one day lead to another one of the potential feuds going away for good, if not for a long while. I can't confirm the band or the dates yet.

the 2 famous feuds going that im aware of are between dave and metallica and dave and kerry king

unless its another band im not thinking of?
who could it be?
megadeth and slayer were both at the golden god awards a few days ago,maybe things got patched up?
kerry has such a hate on for dave tho so i dont know, im thinking metallica.

have all 100 units for each type been crafted as of today as they started a few years ago or do they produce/release them slowly and are still doing so?

usa's, imports, you name it. i cant find a guitar anywhere that im 100% ok with buying anymore.

it seems like when im almost ready to pull the trigger on something too, i get one of my friends to check it out and right away, they find something hinkey going on with it. or i find something wonky going on.

its almost to the point where i have to hire a luthier just to go shopping with me.

Animated Dean Sighting
by rridner on Sat Apr 11, 2009 3:22 pm
Last night I was watching King of the Hill and saw a Dean Z animated into the episode. In this episode, John Redcorn is a struggling musician trying to get a break. He tried to open a casino, so that his band - Big Mountain Fudgecake will have a permanent venue to play in. Anyhow, one of John Redcorn's bandmates is proudly sporting a Dean Z. Caught me by surprise and thought I would share!

"Redcorn Gambles "
Episode KH909
Original Airdate: 4/10/05

When John Redcorn’s band, Big Mountain Fudgecake, struggles to find a regular gig, John begs Hank to let the band play at the upcoming Strickland Propane Family Fun Day. Hank loves the fun day and, having been put in charge of the party planning by Bud Strickland, wants everything to be perfect.

Putting a Kahler on it.
by Blazer on Sat Apr 11, 2009 6:49 pm
Okay I'm sure you're all aware of my self built Explorer, from either the building process pictures or from the fact that I have been using it as my main live guitar with Slavantas.

Image

Originally my Explorer had a top loading non trem strat bridge but because our music needs whammy bar action I installed a Washburn "Wonder bar" double locking trem but it had a trouble attached to it.
Image
Because as you can tell from this picture, the string spacing is much too wide presenting problems with the string alignment with the pole pieces of the pickups as well as the fact that both E strings were on the very edge of the fingerboard.

Well I learned to play with those short comings but always kept my eyes open for a better system here and I found it.
Image
The cool thing about the Kahler is that the string spacing can be adjusted (which is not the case with the Washburn) so finally I have the strings where I want them to be, making for much better playing guitar.
Image
The only thing I have to get used to is how smooth the Kahler is, the Washburn was much stiffer in feel but I don't think that it'll take me too much time.

I heard a lot of talk about Kahler bridges sucking the tone away from your guitar, I can't say that that's the case with my explorer though, if anything I like the sound better than how it was with the Washburn.
Customizing a case?
by -JiMi DRiX- on Sat Apr 11, 2009 8:05 pm
As I'm packing up my gear for our show tonight, I'm trying to get this rolled up towel into my coffin case so my Stiletto bass will sit without moving around, and then I got thinking.
Is it possible to purchase a thick rectangle of that black foam, cut it out to fit into the coffin case, and then trace and cut out the middle to the shape of my bass' body so it will sit firm in the case? Does that sound like a good or bad idea? I could probably get another case that better fits it, but I'm sure foam is a whole lot cheaper for now.

Thoughts?

Old Randall RG amp differences?
by hellboundinFTworthTX on Sun Apr 12, 2009 12:54 am
Hey, I was wondering if anyone here knew of any big differences from year to year of the old Randall USA RG amps? I've owned an 86 RG100es and an 84 RG80es before, but I just snagged another carpeted 80es for yesterday super cheap and this sucker seems to be way punchier and have a lot more gain than the others I had. I stuck my MXR 10 band in the loop and it sounds killer! My others didn't sound good at all with the MXR. I opened it up and cleaned the pots and it doesn't look modded at all. Just wondering if anyone else had heard any diffs from year to year? Smile

i just need some feedback and please dont turn this into a bashing thing, i just have questions about the guitar.

Dean ML X Demo 1.5

Hey

I didn't like my lead on the original Dean ML X Demo.

So I played around with the Wah Wah settings on my M-Audio BlackBox and a cleaner guitar sound came up with this lead.

It also is mixed a little differently .
Same rhythm tracks as before.

It's called Demo ML X demo 1.5

2 new guitars in a week.
by Anonymous on Sun Apr 12, 2009 7:35 am
Well I've be Blessed with 2 guitars in a week

The First is a Dean ML X.
Image

I'm going to change the hardware and pups and maybe do a paint job.

The Second is a B.C. Rich Bronze series Warlock.
Image

I got this from the trader forum.

I had to put a switch in it a filed some frets.The body has some dings but I going to leave it like it is.
Now normally these type of guitars(2 Humbuckers) have a 3 way switch but I put a 2 way in this .The pups together didn't sound that good but the bridge pup is real hot great for leads and the neck pup is real twangy almost like a Tele bridge pup.
EMG-X ???
by daVidious on Sun Apr 12, 2009 8:03 am
Has anyone tried these yet? They look intriguing, but I haven't heard much "chatter" about 'em. They're supposed to be like reagular actives w/passive(read- dynamics) sound.

Anyone?(Randy, I'm looking in your direction).

I had a birthday this week and my wife allowed a couple more guitars into our home. First was an '82 Ibanez acoustic that I've had my eye on.
Image
nothing too special, but I've been in need of an acoustic that I don't have to be too gentle with and this fits the bill.

The real treat is this Sarasota. Beautiful top, neck shape and frets are perfect for me.I swore off gold hardware but couldn't pass this up. I've been looking for a cheap SG but I'm glad I found this. I have a pair of BK Warpigs on the way, I'll get some outdoor pron when they show up.

Won't be able to test it out until tomorrow as I'm currently home for Easter.

I've been waiting to get a distortion pedal for awhile now, and the few that I've tried haven't impressed me. After seeing the videos and reading reviews for this thing, I figured it was time.

I'm sure it would sound great with a $1k tube combo, but I'm just praying it will be a big enough improvement over my cheapo discontinued Crate 2x12's stock distortion to warrant the $140 pricetag.

Anybody else try one of these things yet?

well ive narrowed it down to three, but feel free to suggest more. I play stuff like lamb of god, chimaira, shadows fall, pantera stuff like that. So these are the amp settings that Skinnyman gave me from his solo video but I don't have the pedals and I have a crappy amp so the whole thing sounds like ass.
I'm kinda sloppy in some parts of the video but I have only played for seven months and I improvised much of the solo so I think its pretty good for me.

'05 TC Exotic ML vs '80 e/2 Explorer
by Northwinds on Mon Apr 13, 2009 2:25 pm
Ever since I got this ML from Martin, I wanted to do a sit down comparison against an e/2 and see which is the best guitar

The '80 e/2:

Sandwiched maple/walnut, 12lbs on the digital scale, 5 piece slim C profile neck w/ ebony board, TP-6 fine tuner bridge, X2N in the bridge and Super Distortion in the neck

The '05 ML

Mahogany string thru body and multipiece neck, a bit under 10lbs, maple spalt for the top, rolled binding, JB/59 pup set, pronounced but not overly sharp V neck profile. In process of hardware changeover as seen in image Laughing

The amp

I chose the Vyper 120w tube combo for this comparison as it offers modern gain stages as well as classic clean models. Amp models used were the 6505 and JSX for high gain, the Plexi for clean

EQ controls were a constant w/ bass at near max, mids at 2 o'clock and treble at noon

No effects or stompbox settings were used, no reverb either

The ML

In the high gain settings, it sounded a bit muddy which surprised me with a maple topped guitar. I also noticed a low background hum that means I have to check the wiring. It was there despite 3 cable changes. I set the guitar up after ditching the magenta coated lightweights in favor of a DR Tite Fit .10-52 set. The guitar sounded powerful though and rolling back the volume a bit delivered the awesome crunch. The action is extremely low with no buzz and I had no problem with pinches and squeals. Using the Plexi setting, the guitar was tested using all three pup positions. The '59 delivered the best tone obviously but the JB rolled back offered sounds from cowboy/fender type twang to near full open Frank Marino

The e/2

Plugged in this guitar IMMEDIATELY stood out for playability. Same strings as on the ML and action is ridiculously low w/ no buzziness. In every playability aspect that I tested this, it beat the ML for comfort. In the high gain settings it roars. It was also much brighter sounding and this I expected of a near 100% maple guitar. The ebony board is much better quality also I would like to add (the ML has a redstreak on it that reminds me of a stained rosewood board but I am sure it's not). The Explorer sounded like an Explorer always does, powerful and articulate. A different animal from the ML for sure

Final thoughts

The ML sounded a bit better w/ the high gain settings but needed a treble boost addition. Fit and finish are great, well built instrument w/ a beautiful spalt top. Worth whatever it cost new? For pure asthetics... yes, as an instrument a bit overpriced

The e/2 beat the ML for playability and "overall" tone. Obviously it is loaded for bear pup-wise and the 95% maple body gave bright tone and tons of sustain. It is probably unfair to compare the two tonally as they are completely different guitars so I am not considering tone as part of the test comparison. Fit and finsh on the Gibby are just as nice. Worth what it cost new which was $1199... yes, totally and a bargain today

The Verdict

By actual feel, the Explorer seems much more solid a guitar then the ML (heavier guitar?). The spalt on the Dean makes it the eyecandy winner no hands down Laughing Cool . Playability is great on both, I am being nitpicky I know but my hands and playing style are what I have to go by. The V neck on the Dean inspired confidence in solo runs and should have won the test but my hands are smaller so I actually felt the edge and it was distracting at first whereas the slim C profile of the Explorer allowed me total freedom of movement, even for arpeggio runs incorporating muti string hammer ons

Both guitars are fantastic and it's very hard to pick a winner but the nod goes to the e/2

by Jag Panzer on Mon Apr 13, 2009 8:21 pm
I took my wife to see Lily Allen in Denver last week.

I was pleasantly surprised that she had a real band with her (I wasn't sure what to expect). Her guitar player was outstanding. He was clearly influenced by The Edge, except when it came to the guitar solos. Yep, this guy was breaking out guitar solos on Lily Allen tunes! He had a great bluesy feel to his leads.

Thought i'd repost this since so people could see it. minus the drama that developed in my original thread.

Went to see Scott Henderson tonight. Man, watching this man play is like watching picasso paint. So much tone and feeling. Yet its so abstract. Absolutely amazing. I think my view on guitar changed tonight for the better. He's really inspired me to think out of the box from now on.

choosing a new pair of wings...
by themenniss on Mon Apr 13, 2009 11:05 pm
people of the dean forum *dramatic pose*
um i have a question...
i'm thinking about getting myself another set of wings.
now i like dean but i don't want a guitar with an outrageous shape ( i like the shape of my caddy.)
i'm looking for another versatile guitar that can easily go from playing smooth jazz to a bit of fast paced brittish hardcore but (it's a big one) i don't want to blow out over half a grand (that's in £ sterling) on this new piece. i like the look of the thinking maybe a vendetta 3.0/ 4.0 if i can scrape the pennies together or a hardtail select but i'm not sure if the stock pickups will be right for my style (don't wana mess about with replacing pickups if i can avoid it)
what do you think?
i'm sorry i'm such a picky sod Confused
any opinions would be greatly appreciated Wink
i'll see you all tomorrow.

Aerosmith with ZZ Top Summer Tourdates..
by BTMN on Mon Apr 13, 2009 11:59 pm
AEROSMITH REJOINS FORCES WITH GUITAR HERO®: AEROSMITH®
FOR ROCK EVENT OF THE SUMMER

MASSIVE THREE-MONTH TOUR
LAUNCHES JUNE 10 IN ST. LOUIS,
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS ZZ TOP

TICKETS GO ON SALE BEGINNING APRIL 17 AT LIVENATION.COM

What happens when AEROSMITH, America’s Greatest Rock ‘N Roll Band who’ve sold over 150 million albums, won four Grammys and been inducted into the Rock and Roll of Fame, rejoins forces with Guitar Hero®: Aerosmith®?

You have the rock event of the summer.

The massive AEROSMITH tour--presented by Guitar Hero: Aerosmith--kicks off June 10 at Verizon Amphitheatre in St. Louis. Special guests ZZ Top join the tour on June 16. Tickets go on sale in select markets to the general public beginning Friday, April 17th. For additional presale, on sale, ticket and tour information go to www.livenation.com. The North American tour runs through September and includes stops in New York, Boston and Los Angeles.
AEROSMITH--STEVEN TYLER (vocals), JOE PERRY (guitar), BRAD WHITFORD (guitar), TOM HAMILTON (bass) and JOEY KRAMER (drums)--made history last year when Activision released Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, marking the first music-based game built around the legendary music of Aerosmith. The groundbreaking partnership united “America's greatest hard rock act” (as described by Mojo editor Phil Alexander in a May '07 cover story) with the massively successful videogame franchise; sales exploded and broke records, with AEROSMITH reaching another generation of fans.
This summer’s dates follow AEROSMITH’s 2007 worldwide tour that encompassed 35 dates in 20 countries, including their first-ever concert in India. Highlights included the band headlining a crowd of 50,000 fans on the second night of Hard Rock Café’s London Calling event in Hyde Park. Known for their incomparable chemistry and trademark electrifying performances, AEROSMITH also triumphantly performed in packed stadiums in Brazil, Argentina and Mexico, and culminated their overseas domination with two unforgettable shows in St. Petersburg and Moscow.
“I have always been a huge fan of ZZ Top,” JOE PERRY says. “I toured with them with the Joe Perry Project, and those shows were unforgettable. With ZZ Top on this bill, it will definitely kick us into overdrive.”
AEROSMITH is currently in the studio working on a new album. For more than 30 years AEROSMITH has defined American Rock 'n' Roll. They’ve earned countless awards (including four Grammy Awards, eight American Music Awards, six Billboard Awards, and 12 MTV Awards), performed electrifying sold-out concerts around the world and have a fan-base numbering in the millions worldwide. The members of AEROSMITH remain creatively vital, and are the platinum standard for artistic and commercial success in the music business. Through it all they have undeniably withstood the test of time. For more information on Aerosmith, including fan club tickets, go to www.aeroforceone.com.
Now celebrating its 40th anniversary, ZZ Top--Billy F Gibbons (guitar/vocals), Dusty Hill (bass/vocals) and Frank Beard (drums)--formed in 1969 and played their first show in February 1970 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Beaumont, Texas. The personnel line-up for “That little ol' band from Texas” not changed in the intervening years: no other major band can make that claim. Along the way, they’ve been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2004), were named Official Heroes of the State of Texas (1986) were cited for Best Group Video and Best Direction at the very first MTV Video Music Awards. They performed at the 1997 Super Bowl halftime show and their landmark Eliminator album was in the first group of recordings to be achieve RIAA’s Diamond status in recognition of domestic sales in excess of ten million units. Texas Governor Ann Richards declared May 4, 1991 ZZ Top Day in their home state. Live From Texas was released last year and debuted at #1 on Billboard’s music DVD chart. The band’s consistency has been attributed by its members to the fact that they are “the same three guys playing the same three chords.”

Get ready for the summer. The Guitar Hero: Aerosmith Presents Aerosmith tour with special guests ZZ Top will be live, loud, and all the rock you’ll need.

Ebay rant, got new amp
by meticalman on Tue Apr 14, 2009 1:12 am
So i bought this V2 Randall, got a steal, auction $580, guy said it was only played once in a studio, 2 pictures looked okay.

So the dude takes 6 days before he ships it, then it takes 12 days for me to get it.

I get it, and it's obviously used.

There's a tear in the fabric on the bottom, another small tear on the bottom. It was kinda dirty, the inside was extremely dusty.
Where the preamp tubes go, the rubber ring for the caps that hold them down, just broke upart because they were so dry and cracked, which makes me think it's been played many many many times, to wear the heat got to the rubber rings.

Anyway, i was willing to pay700 and i'm glad that didn't happen, so i'm not that upset because paid a used price for an amp i thought was in perfect condition as described.

I want to leave the guy negative feedback, but i'm afraid he will leave me negative feedback, he won't email me about how the amp was in very used condition.

I heard sellers can't leave negative feedback anymore? any truth.

What does everyone think i should do?

Just leave positive feedback and forget about it, let the scum just keep evilbaying.
Need help with a Guitar idea.
by ChadMang on Tue Apr 14, 2009 2:16 am
ok so my idea includes the following,
Washburn Culprit
Dean MLF 79
EMG 81/60 or EMG 81/85

My Washburn Culprit has a BLACK Floyd Rose
Dean MLF 79 has a CHROME Floyd Rose

my idea is to swap out the Floyd's on em' and Black out the 79, so in the end:

Washburn Culprit=Chrome Floyd
Dean MLF 79=Black Floyd w. Black EMG'S and Black pickup rings.

so essentially black out the 79, and make the Culprit look like a normal WB Culprit.

Coil splitting issues
by samschett on Tue Apr 14, 2009 2:34 am
Ok so I have my v79 wired up so that the two volume knobs control the splitness of a coil (pretty much they only control the volume on one coil of each humbucker) according to diagrams from Seymour Duncan's website and then the tone is now the master volume. However, when I put the pickups in humbucker mode, it sounds like I have them with the tone control all the way down and it sounds like they are playing through a sponge and they have a greatly reduced output. I am using 500K pots. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix it? It also happened when I had 250k pots in there. Here is the wiring diagram.

The Haunted 4/12/09 Live Pix
by rridner on Tue Apr 14, 2009 3:01 am
Is there a better way to spend Easter Sunday than with The Haunted?! Nothing says "Hallelujah, He is Risen!" quite like some Swedish metal! It was a really good show - last time I saw The Haunted was on the DamagePlan tour Dimebag was killed on, so needless to say - it's been a while. I am not a big Peter Dolving fan, but he is better live than on the albums. Was happy to hear them play quite a few songs from The Haunted Made Me Do It & One Kill Wonder. It was a very good arrangement of old and new stuff. I have not followed the band as close since Dolving came back, so whatever they played that was not from the 1st three albums - I was kind of unsure of what it was. All sounded good, but was not as familiar with the newer stuff. Not a huge night with the combination of Easter and it being a "work/school night". The turnout was not too bad considering though. I showed up just in time to see The Haunted play as I was not interested in the other bands on the line-up. Great performance overall - had a great time! onto the live PRON

Question About USA 84 Modern Exotic Zebra

Will it be available with a regular tremelo like the USA 74? I seriously doubt it. I figured i'd ask though, since it will be available without a Floyd.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~little help with 7 string guitars~~~~~~~~~~~~
by CemeteryGates on Tue Apr 14, 2009 3:30 am
Well... I play guitar in a death core band and I've noticed that all my favorite death core bands like all shall perish, The faceless ect. use 7 string guitars. I'm not really sure the whole advantage of the extra range beside the better playabilty in low tunings. I've been looking at them online but because I know nothing about them I dont know what features I should get and whats a good deal.
I like this one.
Schecter blackjack ATX C-7
Image
7-string
Set-In 26-1/2" 3-piece mahogany neck with Ultra Access
Ebony fingerboard with 'Active Bolt' Inlay at 12th
Arched Mahogany
24 jumbo frets
string-thru body
Seymour Duncan active Blackouts humbuckers
TonePros TOM
Schecter lockiing tuners
GraphTech Tusq nut
Aged Multi-ply binding
$800 on GC but I'm sure I could find a better deal
there had been some talk lately about rockabilly guitar, so i thought i'd throw this up. it's a little more jazzy setzer style than true rockabilly, but enjoy my awful playing. if you can set through the whole thing there's some decent stuff in there.
I've been bumming about on the internet for a while, and came across a thread on the Jemsite forums about depression and it's self-perpetuating nature, and one forum member posted the following:
Quote:
I am constantly depressed when im not either playing the guitar or writing music, and I'm constantly beating myself down as to why music is not my career. I honestly believe that GAS is a direct response to not being involved in music enough. The more you dont write play or practise or perform, the more you wantto collect guitars etc... Its like a sub conscious way for your brain and soul to hold on to an all to important part of your existence...
I was thinking about that for a while, and it did actually start to make sense in my mind, in that in a similar way to say comfort eating or even bulimia works, in that the person eats or doesn't eat to make up for a certain self-percieved inadequacy in their lives.
I'm not saying it's true, I'm only saying it's possible. Of course wanting guitars is a natural thing and we all do it, but i'm talking about buying, trading and selling in excess.
Ups just delivered my new toy. Agile AL3100. This guitar is NOT for people who like light guitars. Haven't weighed it in yet but it is DEFINITELY over 10 pounds. Haven't given it a full rundown yet. I cant find a single flaw on it tho. A guitar this nice, WITH hard case and ebony, for under $500. Makes you wonder why it seems like such a hard thing to do with some companies. Anyway on to the pron;
~~~~~~!!!!Cabinet Question!!!~~~~~~~
by CemeteryGates on Tue Apr 14, 2009 8:26 pm
I'm buying a randall warhead from my local shop and I was wondering what a good cab would be for this amp. I would like something that can handle the massive low end the warhead dishes out and if possible be kinda easy on the budget. I looked at vader cabs, they are a bit pricy although I have heard good things about them.

Love Guitars Or Love To Hate Them.....
by BTMN on Tue Apr 14, 2009 8:42 pm
Rainy day in Tampa Bay. Got up around 7 and by 7:30 I had a Schulte Les Paul unplugged but in my hands. Played it three times since! WOW!! My most "not worthy guitar" I own. YUM!!!

After a shower and food, I did some chores and errands. When I returned I played my P90 Z for a while in the Crate Clean channel with just a taste of reverb working on a 8 note pattern in differant feels, riffs, and general noise at times. P90! Raw! Good! Even only on 3 Master, on the amp it was just great. Switch to Rythmn and the Solo side with onboard Overdrive/Gain, Melt. Twisted Evil Razz Cool

If there is one thing I am happy to take away from the internet boards amid all the "stuff" that exists on them, it has been the desire to improve my playing ability. Livingroom Noodlers UNITE!!!!! Twisted Evil

Funny thing is different guitars WILL inspire different things. The LP made me feel like playing open chords in the Clean channel getting some "Eagles" type strumming going and the P90 Z was riffing dirty bluesy and delicious without turning a knob on the amp. Dont get me wrong the Schulte will get that too but today it was sounding great in the strumming feel.

In the Rythmn channel and the Solo channel, for a short time, I forgot I had the mids at 0. Couple guitars I was playing yesterday sound GREAT with that setting. SEEE what ya'll do to an old dawg? Once I cranked that back up it was even better sounding. "Mids are where the Angry Live." Shocked The LP has a '59N and a JBb in it and that setup in THAT guitar is really nice. Duncans in the Z too.

So today I love some guitars.

How about you?

What is passive or active?!
by Blind Theory on Tue Apr 14, 2009 10:04 pm
Ok, I have a list of pickups that I am interested in for both bridge and neck. I don't know what is passive and what is active. I need passives so here is the list:
Bridge:
Invader
X2N

Neck:
Pearly Gates

What is what? Thanks!
Seymour Duncan Fullshred (neck position)
by Dooom on Tue Apr 14, 2009 10:50 pm
Does anyone have anything to say about the Duncan Fullshred in the neck? I am looking for a new neck pickup for my Dean ML that currently has a Duncan distortion bridge. I like a really clean sounding neck, and I don't really like the bluesy type tones that come from the Duncan 59 or pearly gates. The other two I am considering are a Dimarzio EVO and a Dimarzio Super Distortion, but I have no idea whether or not these would work with a Duncan.
Thanks!

I have liked the distortion on the dual rectos, but they didn't have the tightness with the lowend that I wanted... but bamn, delivered!

I only got to play it a little bit and then my neighbour was complaining about wanting to go to bed at 9:30.... bah! tomorrow there shall be much playing Very Happy

I only snapped one pic... it's in great shape. One of the tubes got knocked loose in transit as it was making a noise it wasn't making when I played it earlier. Anyways, pron!

Outworld done

Quote:
Well guys it's officially over. I always said if Outworld didn't work out I wasn't starting over from scratch with unknown local guys and I'm not. I'm going to go on as a solo artist and continue to write and record with professional musicians that already have an established name. At the moment I'm working on a cd with Derek Sherinian that will be a band effort with vocals. We are looking for a singer that ranges from Hetfield to Meshuggah so if you know someone please let me know or direct them to Derek's myspace www.myspace.com/dereksherinian2008 . I will also be going back to NY and CT at the end of May to do my next dvds with Rock House Method titled Arpeggio Madness! and I will also be doing clinics through out the year.

The rest of the guys are still out there kicking it Matt and his little bro have a band Bobby and Shawn are involved in a couple of bands together and who knows what Carlos is up to...
I hope to see an Outworld reunion one day for a few gigs or something it's really a shame it didn't last but life goes on and you keep moving, certain doors close so others can open.

The Outworld website, board and myspace will remian up I hope to continue to draw fans even though the band is no more. I am really proud of Outword's first and only cd and can only imagine what we could have done if everyone would have hung on through the tough times.

Special thanks goes out to all of you the fans for your support.

Thanks

Rusty

Lifted from Outworld's myspace. Lame. I really looked forward to a more refined/mature follow up from them. I still enjoy their debut.

I need a CHEAP guitar
by bazzabalboa on Wed Apr 15, 2009 8:11 pm
Hey everyone. Last summer i was going to buy a cheap 'alba tc-10' telecaster style guitar. It was about £30 brand new and £4 delivery and it came with a no-name 2-watt pocket amp.

I am sure that both items were terrible, but i this summer i want a really cheap electric guitar, in the >£40 region. I want it to repaint, reshape and to electronically modify it myself.

Does anyone have any links or suggestions?
Dean Razorback White/Gold - a good guitar?
by Metallon on Wed Apr 15, 2009 9:10 pm
I'm thinking about getting this guitar after selling my Eclipse. The reason why I settled on this particular guitar is because I think it looks absolutely gorgeous. Then I read up on it and found they came with Seymour Duncans and I love SD pick-ups. The mahogany body + neck aspect sounds really nice too, and an original floyd rose can't hurt either. 25.5" neck is nice, too.

Question is, how are these guitars quality-wise?
