Anyone ever try Duncan P-rail pickups?
by milje on Sat May 02, 2009 12:46 am
I'm thinking of getting another Soltero Standard, found a good price on a blem. I want to try some Duncan P-rail pickups out in it but was wondering if anyone has experience with them. My Soltero now has a Custom 5 and a '59 in it, really like that combo. Thinking the P-rails will be something different and pretty cool.
Need some advice in a trade....

Three legendary Dutch bands sharing one stage.
by Blazer on Sat May 02, 2009 11:45 am
In 1982 former Pirate Radio station Veronica decided to organize a one-off concert of three Dutch bands called the "Popnight" and the bill consisted of...
Vitesse, one of the Netherland's cult bands.
Doe Maar, a reggae/ ska combo who are without a doubt one of the most popular Dutch singing acts ever.
And last but not least, true Dutch legends, The Golden Earring.
All of these bands had a reputation for being a killer live act. so it wasn't really a surprise that the show ended with all three bands jamming together. That Jam consisted of three songs and here they are.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hdb-aREAsr8
Song 1. Doe Maar's "Neder wiet" (Nether weed) a song about how to grow your own cannabis. During the solo, the members of the other two bands show up and join in.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-kawk90Wok
Song 2. Vitesse's "Steady rolling man"

Song 3. Golden earring's "Radar love" the finale of the thing.
The building of my latest project is really coming together
by Blazer on Sat May 02, 2009 12:00 pm
As you all can recall I started the build of two matching Pine body Telecasters with which I intended to use up a pile of spare parts I had lying around. That plan has changed because I decided to make the necks myself and buy new bridges for those two guitars.
Be that as it may, I still have that pile of spare parts which includes a stunning Birds eye maple neck and it would be a shame NOT to use that neck so I decided to make a third tele body so I could use that neck and I also decided to go for that tried and tested wood combination that makes a rock guitar: Mahogany and maple.
Book match baby, you can see the join but it's not really that bad.
Side view: you can see that I used two routing bits, a smaller one to do the top and a bigger one for the rest of the body, this was because hard rock maple can splinter when routed and this way I avoided chipping. This picture also shows the thickness of the body. It's thicker than a standard tele body but that will translate in sustain.
The back: as you can see, a big "Eye" where a branch sat is prominent at the bass side. But I don't mind, I think it gives the guitar something of it's own. My Boss already nicknamed it "The Jupiter's storm guitar" because of this figure in the wood.
A little water on the top exposes that pretty texture of the maple here. I already decided that this will be a twin humbucker, rear-routed guitar, no pickguard because I feel it would be a crime to cover up such a pretty piece of Maple: it needs to be seen in full.
Here's the body after I routed the neck pocket, the body rounding, the pickup cavity and...
...The back cavity.
And these pictures were taken after I routed out the scallop in which the neck plate will sit. And while I was at it I also screwed the neck on to see if that needs adjusting as well.
Here's the body inside the workshop yesterday after I applied the first layers of amber shellac.
And here it is today after a wet sanding and a second layer. The pictures don't do it justice, in person the color is much deeper in shade.
This going to be a killer project, I'll keep you guys informed.
So my b-day is approaching and I'm gonna ask for some new pickups. I'm gonna ask for passives because they should be a direct drop in without having to change the pots or wiring, right? Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm thinking JB/59. But I also like the compression that exists in Exodus' tone. Does anyone know what Gary Holt uses? Any other suggestions are welcome also.
The episode is no. 182, "Redcorn gambles with his future", Season 9 Episode 11. The guitar belongs to the rythm guitarist in John Redcorn's band, "Big Mountain Fudgecake".
That is all.

As many of you know or don't know, my birthday is coming up at the end of this month! I am so excited. I am going to get the Peavey VYPYR 30w amp. I really need a new amp. But, I really want to get something to record with so me and the band can start putting music up on the myspace page. Plus, I just want to screw around with the recording. I have heard a lot of things on the Line 6 POD stuff. I decided to check it out and found this:
http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Line-6-Pod-Studio-GX-with-Pod-Farm?sku=250006
I don't know much about recording gear or anything but I want to get started. Does anyone have this? What is it like? Is it hard to use? Is it good? If you guys have any other suggestions, my budget is strictly 100 and under. Thanks guys!
Ok, I was watching a Megadeth interview with Mustaine and he was talking about "voicing his chords." He didn't show and example and I got really intrigued. What exactly is "Chord Voicing?" Thanks!

what's your favorite guitar cabs?
Just wondering what your favorite 4x12 cabs are? I used to have a Marshall 1960a 4x12 that I loved. now I have a Dr. Z 2x12. I am really wanting an orange 4x12 in black though? Anyone heard anything about the new Dave Mustaine cab? Seems kind of cool. Anyways let me know your favorite cabs Mesa, Orange, Marshall, etc.

Passives installation question
Can I replace some shitty stock pickups with a Dimarzio D sonic and Air Norton without changing the pots? I know I'm being really vague, and I'm sorry. The stock pickups are passive duncan designed, if it matters.
Anyone on here like Country music?
Ok so I love country and metal. I know random right? haha. So I thought I'd post up and see if their are any other country fans on here. DO NOT come in here and post about how you think it is below 70 IQ type and stupid, etc. i'm not here to start stupid arguments, just to see if other people on here like country. So go ahead and tell me some country artists you are digging.
I'll start I like old and new country:
Willie nelson, Johnny cash, Brad Paisley, Jason Aldean( "She's Country" is the most rockin tune in a while), Keith Urban, jake owen, Hank Williams JR/SR, etc.
let me know what you dig
thanks
Tell me about the Ibanez JEM777s?
So I've recently discovered these jem777 models and they are giving me super bad GAS. The older 80's and 90's ones had such better colors than the lame ass white and the mirror one. So who on here has a JEM or has played one? What's the consensus? Are they worth the big bucks that they go for? i'd really like to own a bright green or yellow JEM.
Tell me your opinions
Thanks
Haven't posted for a while. Here's some pron for ya'!
It's been a few months since I last posted. I've still been visiting and looking around the forum, but being busy with college during the week and working weekends I just haven't really had the time to get involved with any threads or anything.
Well I had a day off today and been bored as hell Been playing guitar most of the day. Its actually been quite a while since I had the time to just sit down and jam for a couple of hours, so its quite refreshing.
I thought I'd post some pictures of my sort-of-new amp (had it a couple weeks now) with my two main axes. It's a Marshall MG100HDFX, I used to have the combo version of this amp and loved it, but I gave that to my brother last year.
This stack is way better than the combo version. Its LOUD. I didn't actually expect it to be as loud as it is. If you put the master volume past 7 you could probably blow the head off a small animal if it stood too close to the cabs.
The pictures are a bit blurry but this was the best I could do with my crappy phone camera.
I was cruising through the current available Private Stash (I know, I can never afford one of these anytime soon, but I have a GAS problem ), when I noticed something. Check out this Soltero:
Anyone else notice something different about it?
Software Modeling any good?
Well Ive been looking into different methods for recording my guitar direct into my pc... and I think i may have settled on some sort of software modeling. Im just unsure about which to get... is there anything out there under $600 that could compete with a mic'd amp?
Ive considered
Amplitube hendrix
gutiar rig 3
digidesign 11
GTR3
Peavey revalver mkiii
How would i connect these to my pc... can i just use a 1/4 converter and go straight into my soundcard from my guitar?.. or is there external hardware involved.
Comments welcome just looking for everyones opinion on this matter.
*edit - would i need asio drivers for reduced latency?

many have come and gone - here is the current line up:
Does anyone here have experience with the D Sonic and/or the Air Norton? I'm seriously looking at upgrading, but I have never even seen a guitar with this combo. Anyone have sound clips or experience? I know there are clips on Dimarzio's website, but they don't tell me what the players are running, so I don't get a good idea of what the pickups sound like by themselves.
Quick question regarding ML's and Cliplocks
by daerid on Sun May 03, 2009 11:03 pm
Is it fine to replace the existing strap button behind the neck joint with the black screw from the cliplocks?
I just got a Dime Blade, and I'm worried because the black screws are quite large, and look like they might go almost all the way to the fretboard.
Anybody here done this successfully? Am I trippin about nothing?
Thanks in advance!

Pickup (Electronics) Experts Needed!
The pots on the ol LTD EC 400 are starting to crap out on me. They are 25 k pots and the guitar is under a year old. This one site has some 25k pots that are military spec and 2 watts. Will this work as a replacment for the standard EMG 25k pots? Also, they are audio taper not linear taper. The measurments are about the same as normal guitar pot also besides the 2 watts.

Lamb of God Indianapolis Show
by shupe13 on Mon May 04, 2009 2:58 pm
My son and I got a chance to see LOG last night in Indianapolis. It was my son's first show and my first since Pantera in 98'.
The opening acts were God Forbid, Municiple Waste, Children of Bodem and As I lay Dying.
LOG ruled, as did As I Lay Dying. That goes without saying.
I was really impressed with God Forbid's set. I didn't know any of their stuff but they put on a really good show. With the motto "METAL AS F**K" how can you go wrong? They got two new fans for sure.
I didn't know Municiple Waste either, very old school thrash, fun to watch. Tunes like "Smoke Beer" had me rolling.
Don't hate, but I'm not so much into keyboard metal, so COB... It was a perfect time to take a leak and meet the boys in both God Forbid and Municiple. Very cool dudes who seem to appriciate their fans.
My son has school so we couldn't stick around to meet Lamb. It was awsome watching them tear it up. I suggest going to one of these shows if you haven't before. Good times. Can't wait to see LOG again.
Diving into some Townsend stuff...
Recommend me some albums from his DTB catalog beyond Ziltoid (already have it). He's an artist I've been wanting to get into for awhile now as I respect him a bunch and I like his style, but I've never actually DIVED into the discography much. 'Suicide' is a great track, I think I might start around the album with that on there. Any other suggestions?

Maple Neck Guitars

Hey guys, I have been GAS'ing pretty hard for a guitar with a maple neck. I know there are so many makes and models out there. I was curious if anyone has any experience with an Ernie Ball Axis Music Man Guitar? If so, how does it play/sound?
Any other recommendations? Thanks guys.

last night, I took some 400grit sand paper to the neck of my Schecter C7. it made a huge improvement, the neck is much faster and feels like smooth satin. I have always wanted to try this and thought the unfinished neck of my Schecter would be a good place to give it a go. worked out well - glad I did it.

Did playing guitar get you into metal?
A friend and I were discussing music, and she was horrified to learn that I'm a headbanger. So it got me to thinking that I probably wouldn't have given metal a chance if I didn't play guitar. Any thoughts?
My Crate Gt200 blew up over weekend. So I made a trip to the local store, picked up a Peavey Backstage 208 Chorus. Has anyone had one before or have one now? It has 2 speakers, clean, dirty, and extra dirty, seperate EQ's, plus chorus. Sounds nice. Made in USA. Peavey's site it is from 1994. I got so used to playing through 2 amps I had to replace the Crate.

Going to check out a vintage Marshall today...
It's a 1979 Marshall Club and Country... Basically it's a 2x12 combo in the JMP line. It's supposed to be Marshall's version of the twin, but with two channels; one being clean like a twin, the other 'Marshally.'
That's all I know about these besides Alex Lifeson from Rush used these for a long period of time as well as SRV in the early 80's.
Apparently these are very very rare. Just looking to gather any extra info/experience.
Dean Dixie Rebel... painted or graphics?
by hummi on Tue May 05, 2009 5:57 pm
Hello people, I would like to know if there are different versions of the Dixie Rebel. From the forum itself, I found pictures posted by others that do look very different. The left guitar in the picture below seems to have a more appealing deep red paint job. The right guitar seems to show a "stick on" graphic. What is the difference between both? Is it due to lighting effect? Import and hence the difference? or is the string through version different?
I thank the members who posted their pictures in advance.
Also, I am considering between this Dixie Rebel and a Razorback Bumblebee Slime. Any advice on which to pick? Bridge pickup review on both? Thanks.

Last night a buddy ask me to be in his band. He is a great guitar player but he will play bass. Another buddy will play guitar with me he is pretty good also and one of there friends will play drums. I will be the old man at 35 they are all 21 & 22. They want to play metal and rock. Can't wait should be fun.
So I found an Ibanez JEM777DY for sale on CL in CA. I sent the guy a couple e-mails he is trying to move it because he doesn't play anymore. It is an original JEM777DY with a new paintjob because the previous yellow had faded. Has diff. pickups and he rounded the headstock for some reason. It has been signed by Vai himself. So I e-mail him telling him I'll buy it for $700 which is what he is asking and said I will pay shipping.
He e-mails me back saying that since I'm not in CA he can't sell it to me because CL warns against selling to out of state buyers. So I e-mail him telling him I would send a postal money order which is safe for both of us and gave him my phone number so that we can talk and I can prove I'm not a scammer.
i guess I'm just a little annoyed. I've bought many things out of state off of CL. Anyone else have a similar situation happen?
here are some pics. NOW I'm trying to find a member off of a forum in CA that I'm close enough with to hopefully have them pick it up for me and have them ship it, Since the original buyer refuses to sell it outside of CA.
thanks & sorry for the rant

Hey everyone,
I made sure to read the rules of the forum before I did this and I didn't really see anything that would cause any trouble, so...
As some of you may know, and as some of you may also be, I'm a huge Mark Tremonti fan and I've been one for quite a while now. So, naturally, when the news came that I could get an instructional DVD from him earlier in the year I jumped on it!
Little did I know that the website that started it (www.fret12.com) would begin a "grass-roots" musician community for all types of guitar related music. For those of you that aren't big Tremonti fans, that's cool too because there are plenty of other artists (even Dean artists) who often hold Q&A sessions. Some of the Dean artists are Rusty Cooley, Bill Peck, and even Leslie West. In fact, Leslie is soon to put out an instructional DVD from Fret12 rather soon!
So, as a fan of playing the guitar, I'm passing it on to all of you!
Enjoy!
What? You don't believe that eventually your questions to artists will get answered? Well, here is a question I posed to Tremonti about an article in Guitar World recently...

Hopefully I'll see you there! I'm "SMLuckett".

Eh, Just some small Announcement
Sorry I haven't been on... no I didn't leave, and I know you're saying "DAMN!"
But I just wanted everyone to know, that some things came up, that kept me from whoring the computer, so yeah.
That said, next week I'm leaving the country for Krakow, Poland to see my brother's graduation from medical school. No computer there, so I'm going to be going another 2 weeks without any sign of being here.
Just to let ya guys know is all.
Seeya'll in 2 weeks nikkas.
and i need your help.
i've been playing for about 5 or 6 years now. i took lessons for about 4 years. i play mostly metal, but i also play some alternative and other types of rock, as well as a bit of classical music.
i feel that i'm a decent player, but i've never been dedicated. i've always been a player where i pick up the guitar a few times a week and play for about 45 minutes. and now i feel that i'm really far behind where i should be. i often get frustrated at the fact that i could be a much better player.
so now i'm going to try to get a lot more dedicated. i was wondering if you guys had any really good practice regiments that you wouldn't mind sharing. i feel like i'm really having trouble getting any better because i don't have a good practice routine. the only times i feel myself getting better are when i learn new songs, which is fine, but at the same time i don't think i should base my learning off of other people's music. a good practice/training routine, i feel, can be a huge benefit.
help would be much appreciated.
I may be taking my FBD down to Guitar Center to trade for a used Gretsch and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on getting the best deal out of these guy's.

I've currently got the high hard one for a Spilt Tail. I have always kinda been on the fence about this guitar. Sometimes it looks kickass, other times I can hardly look at it. It really depends on the day of the week with me and this shape. I am strongly considering getting one of the dark cherry ones, since they are now discontinued and dealers are blowing the prices out on this model/finish. I have gotten some good feedback from Matt & Jim on this guitar in general. Just looking for anything constructive input from anyone who owns one, has owned one or has at least played one. I have heard the quality is far superior to your average Dean imports. I have owned my fair share, so I am well aware of the issues out there. One of my main concerns is the fact that this is a new shape to me. It is one thing to buy a guitar w/o playing it when it is a shape/model you are familiar with. I am a bit leary of jumping head first into a whole new body design. How does it feel/play? What does it compare to? I have been told it feels/hangs similar to a ML and I have been told it is more like a V....which is it?
any CONSTRUCTIVE info is much appreciated. thanks y'all!
Trying to step up my playing and knowledge.....
Is the Guitar Grimoire a good book or series to get? I have it on reservation at Batnes and Noble for today. I seem to have heard this makes understanding scales and modes and how they work easrier. Any experience?
to put a floyded geet in drop B? I'm tuned to C# now and want to learn some Cathedral stuff. It seems they are in C# with the 6th string at B. How does that affect the string and apsring tension, trial and error?

My Guitar Refinishing! UPDATE! 18/06/09
by RazorV on Thu May 07, 2009 9:25 pm
Ok, so ive started to refinish my guitar today. I just finished off sanding and filling for the evening and im happy with what i have got so far, i have paints currently on there way to me now, im going with an AMAZING purple flip that shifts from purple - green - blue!
tomorrow is more sanding and filling in ALL the holes ready for fresh ones after its finished being painted.
For this guitar (being a les paul) im ditchin the 2 volume 2 tone, for 1 volume 1 tone and a kill switch, ill be filling in the hole that the volume control for the rhythm pickup is and putting the kill switch where the tone control should be.
some pics of the process so far..
still need to pull out the post anchors
me and my mate got a little carried away with some sand paper and made a huuuge dip in the guitar, but all is resolved with some poly filler
OK heres another update for you guys, suggestions and questions welcome..
so i have completely finished the prep work, the whole body and neck has been sanded and all screw holes, dents, chips etc have been filled. My paint should arrive in the post monday or tuesday so more pics to come. Heres the latest..
another update soon....oh an before anyone says anything, im sure this isnt going to turn out spectacular, this is my first time doing this and im having fun so gimme a break haha
Sorry if this is old, but....
Metal giants LAMB OF GOD have announced a live streaming of their upcoming show at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia on May 9, 2009. This will mark the first time the band has offered a live stream of an entire show to the public. The festivities begin at 9:30 PM EST on the band’s official website (www.lamb-of-god.com/media.html).
The band will be utilizing technology provided by KYTE (www.kyte.tv) for this special event. Fans will be able to choose from several different camera angles around the stage as they watch the live stream of the band’s performance.
“Since we can't seem to play every town and can't possibly fly you all to ours, we came up with a way to play your house,” says drummer Chris Adler. “Mosh with Mom! One time only metal stimulus package! This tour has been amazing and we hope you enjoy the show!
I wish I would be able to see it but I will be playing as well. However I thought you all should know about it.
Wanna see it? Of course you do!
First, pics:
No comments about the dog hair. The dog's shedding... and cleaning it up is just useless at this point.
Anyways, it's a true bypass/feedback looper.
With the switch down (blue LED), it's in true bypass mode. So, if the pedal's on, whatever pedals are in the loop will be on. When it's off, they won't be-- which is great for multiple pedals and non-true bypass pedals. The left footswitch is momentary-- it activates the feedback function while in True Bypass mode. More on that... NOW
With the switch up (red LED), the pedal is in feedback loop mode. It sends signal back through the pedals in the loop to make them oscillate and do all sorts of craziness. The knob controls the intensity of the effect. The momentary switch in this mode works backwards-- it stops the feedback and the signal just goes through the loop as normal.
It needs some work. The LED placement made the battery hard to place... and I might need to use enclosed jacks-- I'm just afraid they won't fit. The pedal being so small makes it hard not to get shorts and such.
I like it... and it's really useful to me. So nyeh.
Holy smokes!! I used to have this guitar and paid a grand for it a few years back. This is by far the best deal I have found on the net in a looong time. Sorry it's NDC but this can't go unnoticed. This is a MIJ guitar too. With a JCraft fitted case! If I had any extra scratch around I would be all over this. The one I had was so nice. I traded it for a USA Dean, but would have otherwise kept it.

This may be a non guitar related post but I was just wanting to see if there was anyone else on the forum that has diabetes? I've been having a hard time dealing with mine and I've had to file for disability due to it. Would like to know if anyone has or knows someone who has diabetes, thanks!
My band is going through a "Spinal tap" moment.
by Blazer on Fri May 08, 2009 1:54 am
We are booked to play the Ramrock festival in Antwerp Belgium, a gig we've really looked forward about.
But just a couple of weeks ago Jack T. our second guitar player, dropped a bombshell, the family of his wife had arranged a surprise vacation for the two of them in the northern provinces that would be taking place in that very same weekend, all expenses were paid and everything was arranged. In short, he wouldn't be able to make it. Seeing that it is a SEVEN hour drive.
So we all got together and butted heads on what to do, the first thing that Jack T. said was "Why don't you call Andy?" And so Jack T. basically pushed the guy who he replaced, back into the spot.
Andy during Slavantas' debut gig at the Maastricht Metal Meeting in September 2008, just prior to leaving the band after a punch up with our then bassplayer Ade.
Andy and I have been rehearsing for a couple of days to get his chops back on track since he hasn't been playing the songs after leaving the band, it's fun, old times but also apparent is that the songs have changed so much with Jack T.'s input, Andy actually tried to emulate what Jack T. is playing in order to make the songs sound like the ones we recorded with Jack T. for our upcoming release. I said "No man, you're making it too hard for yourself, just play what you used to play in your own style, and just go with the flow."
So in technical terms tomorrow I'll be on stage with Andy again, almost a year after he left the band, it's gonna be awkward but I'm also feeling good about it.
Shees, how Spinal tap is this?
I am in such a rut. I can't play anything right. sloppy as hell, bored, I gotta get some things going. I bought the Guitar Grimoire today and I think you have to be a scientist to understand it. Tired of playing same songs and nothing is appealing to me. Guess it's back to learning scales and patterns. Ye Ha.
so my 5150 kept cutting in and out. found out one of the 6 filter caps were bad. so ordered a couple new ones. took 4 weeks to arrive from Romania. not sure what the deal is but they arrived. discharged all the caps and unsoldered the bad cap. put the new one in and the amp sorta turns on. All 4 power tubes light up , one preamp tube and no power, channel or stand by lights come on. discharged the filter caps again and removed the new one and put the other new one in and same thing. now why would the amp work occasionally with a bad filter cap and not all with a new one. same microferads , volts and temperature. 35 volts, 2200microferads 105 degrees c.
a big wtf.
i even took a picture of the chasis before taking it apart to make sure all 5 power supply cables plug in the right place.
i bigger wtf.
now I gotta take it somewhere to fix it, god knows how much the solder jockey will try to charge me.
Today is the day I no longer am a fan of peavey products.
rant over.

What guitarists from these days do you consider innovative?
by riklite on Fri May 08, 2009 5:08 am
I'm into heavy music. I started playing guitar in 1998 when Pantera, Korn, Limp Bizkit, and Deftones, were all big. Needless to say, I'm a big fan of the guitarists from all of those bands. I'm wanting to listen to some "new" innovative guitarists. I think the guys from Underoath and Lamb of God are fairly innovative but I need some other stuff. My music collection is getting played out. Who out there has the sickest and most fresh riffs these days?
Help? i guess you can say this is
I want to get almost everyone's knowledge on how to play guitar.
I will read little thing, check out websites, watch videos (like Youtube videos or anything), etc, even if it takes me till I'm 21 years old or even older lol. So please can I have some knowledge?
P.S. I will check my thread in like 2 days cause I'll be busy to all hell so I figured I'll ask this and get it out the way. Thanks everyone. Rock On!
A Very Exciting Day In a Local Guitar Shop (NND)
So, I was in my local guitar shop (not a big one, but a very good shop) jamming out some Metallica, Dio & Megadeth on some Deans (79' V, 79' Z & Dark Knight) & watching a live Ozzy DVD (so the normal) & then something most odd happened, a very sexy lady walked into the shop, best of all she was wearing a Dean t-shirt. We started chatting & jamming (she used the 79' Z, I was using the V), got her number, she brought the Z, so, although I didnt buy any new gear (got a Wah & OD on order though) I left a very happy guy.
The point of this little story?

More Dead Tour Stuff up..
After a incredibly hectic week back (major contract negotiations with the client) I managed to squirrel some time away to get a couple more galleries added from The Dead tour.
The 4/22 Wilkes Barre show, and the 4/23 David Letterman show taping stuff is up.
2009 The Dead Tour Updated
I have several more shows in the can, and 4 Band of Brotherz after hours post shows (Bob Weir sat in for two of em) to get up as well. Gonna try to get them done this weekend, as I've got a micro festival to shoot next weekend.
Cheers.
Now back to contract stuff.

I have a cabinet that has two 8 ohm speakers in it with their own 1/4" jacks. It was a 2 X 12 Crate that the head blew on. Well today, I picked up a Marshall AVT50H it has two speaker outputs labeled "loudspeaker output minimum 4ohm imp". Is my cabinet going w/8 ohm speakers OK for the head? Sorry for not knowing, it is confusing.

Late 70s/Early 80s heavy metal
by benpari on Fri May 08, 2009 9:11 pm
I need a few more older(late 70s/80) heavy metal bands to show through in my writing influence other than just Metallica, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and a few other big names. If anyone has any suggestions for CDs to check out I would appreciate it.
Also I may have my first gig with a few people next friday and we need another song or 2.
Right now it looks like we will be playing through Seek and Destroy, Am I Evil?, paranoid, and maybe 1 or 2 originals if I can get them to the point I want them by friday.
I have a pretty limited vocal range(baritone, unlike all the soprano singers in the genre) so anything much higher than Seek and Destroy I can't sing. We started working on Four Horsemen for a little while and I just couldn't hit the notes so we got rid of it.
I would like the songs to be easy to sing and play guitar at the same time because I am still pretty new to it.
Thanks guys.
Got a Marshall AVT50H 50 watt head today. It's used, but who cares. it sounds great. 2 channel, reverb, fx loop, footswitch. Couldn't be easier to use. I hooked it up to the 2 X 12 cabinet that was left from the Crate I had that blew up on Saturday. Cut a piece of plywood for the back of the cab and presto ! A ballsy cabinet. Damn I'm happy.
The Washburn Culprit, did Dime ever really play it?
by Blazer on Fri May 08, 2009 10:12 pm

What particular pedals are better than others to run through an FX loop? Right now I'm putting the sonic stomp through. Would I benefit running the distortion through there too? Thanks

What model of Dean Resonator is this?
by jszfunk on Sat May 09, 2009 1:30 pm
I found this on craigslist. He gave the me model number but I could not find any info about it. Does anyone know anything about it? I had a heirloom and got rid of it for some stupid reason , and I am looking to get another resonator. I have never played a wood body with the chrome biscuit in it and I was just wondering about the tone.
Thanks
combo/cab question
by Jaff on Sat May 09, 2009 1:33 pm
ive seen some people who've put their combo amps into cabs to get more volume and a different tone out of them,
so could you connect one combo amp to another combo amp?
or would it just kill one of or both the amps?
Does anyone here have experience with the dimarzio d-activators? Pro's and con's?

I really want to learn this song and i would do it by ear if it wasn't so difficult. My question is, can someone get the tabs for GP5 or something and then transfer it to regular tabs and send me a PM with the link or something like that? I really want to learn this song guys. Please help! Thanks!

i'm just wondering what are the necks used on the korean soltero? and how many pieces are they?
on ebay, some of the listings say they are maple necks, but in the description it says its mahogany neck.
as is it one piece? or multi pieces?
after owning a dean V 79, i realized i HATE multi pieced necks and bodies!
Ibananas don't all suck. I played a xiphos today to try out some d-activators, and i now *takes deep breath* am gassing for one.
There, I said it.
And GOLDARN', that neck is fast!
Any one know of any great US luthiers who will custom build an LP for dirt cheap? ATM I can't afford a Soltero (not what I'm looking for anyway) and am just window shopping.
help deciding on next amp
so im needing a new amp my 75 watt line 6 spider 3 doesnt cut it anymore so should i get a randall rg200g3plus or the new krank krankenstein jr 50 watt full stack. i need something suitable for small gigs and loud enough to get over a drummer. the other guitar player has a 50 watt traynor that gets louder then my line 6 and the drummer so i figure the micro stack would be louder since it has one more speaker then his traynor. but other suggestions will be considered thanks- aces
I got a DBD Tribute yesterday. Bolt on neck. I got this to be a type of project geet, p'up sawps, learning how the tune-o-matic works, etc. A guitar I could do alternate tunings quickly too. 1st question, can you lower the action just by the tailpiece or is it a truss rod deal too. I dropped mine a good bit w/o fretting out anywhere, I just want to get a little more lower. Question 2? Is there any truth that shimming a neck will help lower action? Seems like you would be raising the neck? My Dime-O-Flame nesk sits flush on the body, he DBD T has a quarter inch gap off the body where the two meet. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
MASSIVE OUTDOOR PRON and other news within :)
Well, well, well - it was an amazingly sunny day today here in Ireland, and some of your American folk might yawn at my enthusiasm, but please remember, sunny days like this here is kinda the equivalent of finding the Holy Grail or winning the Lottery. So anyway, I took the opportunity to take some outdoor guitar pron of all my geets and post up the results for all your fapping needs! Apologies in advance for grainy pictures, my phone camera ain't the best - but for only 2MP it does the job alright!
The Weather, damn look at that sunshine!
Oh sh itbollocks, that's more like it! I better hurry on!
Dean
Fender (Looks washed out, but it's really a buttery creamy colour)
Les Paul
Ibanez
Ibanez and the rockiest, most godly rock god boots in existance
The Family
Guitar-star of Doom
And of course, what's a pron session without a few enigmatic shots of the happy Dad?
Missing from the collection unfortunatley is my acoustic, which is currently locked up in school and my other Ibanez, which is at my dad's house, and God knows if I'll ever see it again
As well as this there's some other news in the pipeline. I got in contact with a young local artist and I've been able to commission him to do some album art for my demo. He's only 17 years old but don't be perturbed, this guy is GOOD! You can check out his website here: http://www.jameseesdesign.co.uk/
So that's pretty exciting, once he's finished and I got a few hundred copies punched out I'm gonna send a demo to more or less every guitar-sympathetic station, website and magazine imaginable and see where it takes me, Furthermore, if you guys are interested I can send a few copies your way too!
Secondly I'm working on a new song and I'm actually pretty excited about this one. It's a little different from my previous efforts, it's got absolutley no shredding on it whatsoever (yawn, I know) and is gonna be a more sensitive ballady-type song in the vein of Hendrix's Little Wing. Over the past few days I've been plumbing the depths of my self and seeing how far my emotions can stretch musically, and this is sort of a culmination of the past few days of soul-searching. All I have recorded at the minute is the main rhythm line and I have a few ideas for a melody line, it isn't much at all but if you're interested I'll post it up. I've been using the Dean for it quite a lot - I'd say that surprisingly for such a rawky guitar it has the best clean tone of all my guitars, really warm and woody - kinda almost half electric, half acoustic and the resonance on it is incredible! So take that, import haters
Anyway, I'm away to soak up the last of the sun! Peace out and enjoy the pron

anybody here into anberlin?
by Douce on Sun May 10, 2009 7:18 pm
we have an annual talent show in my area that includes a few nearby towns thats coming up in a few weeks. last year my band played a metallica and a megadeth tune, and this year we're planning on playing feel good drag by anberlin.
nice change is, instead of playing guitar and singing like last year (which i hate doing, unless its acoustic), im gonna be just singing. I was just curious if their are anyone here who's into Anberlin, because if their is, i'll get someone to take some vids or something of the show. one of our guitarist plays deans, so you'll get something to drool over to
Well, as some of you may know, I had troubles getting the guitar pro thing going but I have it going now. I decided to try Awaken the Dreamers instead of The Last Relapse(both by All Shall Perish). Well, Awaken the Dreamers is HARD! It is fast as all get out but I have most of the intro down...kind of...HAHA! Just thought Id post this. Thanks!
Mesa Mark V - WHEN?!?!?!
by otomix on Mon May 11, 2009 7:03 am
Hey crew,
anyone with any inside info as to when the mark five will be released?
-Dave
Okay, so first off, I want to upgrade the pickups of my white gold caddy. I want pups that are significantly higher output, but also gold covered to match the look of the caddy. I would prefer passive, though I was considering SD Blackouts, as they now have gold cover options (I am aware that EMG have new gold cover options, but the EMGs paired with my ENGL would be waaay to sterile). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, does anyone know if the Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster really does what it says? Will it make my medium output pickups retain their original tone but turn into high output versions of themselves?
Second-ish Question: I love, love, loooove my amp's tone (Engl Powerball), but I want more of it (gain). How do I get more gain out of my amp without effecting (drastically) my tone? I have ZERO experience with tube drivers (screamers). Will these really push my preamp and/or add more gain? I have an EH LPB that adds more gain when in front of the amp, but it really muddies the PB to give me a sort of Zakk Wylde tone that I am not a fan of.
I just want more gain!!!! Thanks a lot, everyone!
P.S. I know that powerball has a lot of gain as it is, but even though I am not an aggressive metal player, I still require a lot of gain for my particular playing style and tone.
Speaker Suggestions/Tube Suggestions
by Joose on Mon May 11, 2009 2:50 pm
Some of you seem to be very knowledgeable on here, so I'm even though I'm pretty sure I know what I want.... I want to see what y'all would suggest for my style of playing. Never know what someone might suggest that I didn't even think of.
I run through a Peavey 6505+ with a Line 6 Birch 4x12. I'm just not feeling that the "Celestion Customs" are quite what I need right now. And it already sounds like one of my tubes is going out.
My style of playing with my band is basically a mixture of Sevendust, Pantera, Mnemic, old In Flames, Soilwork, Meshuggah, etc.
I also play in Drop B.
Just checking in. Tour day 4 and still alive. Finally got a shower and a decent night sleep. Headed down to Orlando FL today. Hugs and kisses till next time.
Marshall JCM2000 1/2 Stack for $1299
by bsmith on Mon May 11, 2009 3:21 pm
A buddy of mine is looking at getting this and was wondering if it's worth it or not. He's a big Marshall buff from back in the day but hasn't played in years. He's been playing a lot lately an is now ready to get a bigger amp. Is this a decent amp and is this a good deal for a brand new 1/2 stack (seems like it is to me but I'm not up on Marshalls).

i was looking at their washburn guitars in the 1000$ range and was wondering if anybody has bought a washburn from them and how it is???
think some of you might find this interesting. i've been following this band for a few years now, and they never get old! i love their energy and absolute insanity of their vocalist. some of the stage stunts he pulls off are insane.
what are they? i'm not exactly sure what genre they fall under. maybe hard rock? i dont know. its interesting to see random influences from the middle east, india and such in their music. some songs even use tablas and flutes.
perhaps fans of coheed and cambria may enjoy this band...

for sale in a online shop that ships from EU preferably UK? I'd really want one but would rather not pay 100€ shipping and 25% import taxes
On the side note, im going to NY in the summer, so maybe I could order/try find one from a local shop, but do you think that the shops would ship to a hotel? And does anyone have any experience in travelling in an aeroplane with a huge guitar case? Do you have to pay extra fees?
So my other soundclick page that I use for the shred lessons is starting to get seriously cluttered, so I deleted all my songs off it and decided to keep the old one specifically for the lessons.
I created a new one to put my actual songs in and uploaded a few of them so far, which you can see below or in my sig:

GWAR Tonight!
by rinos88 on Tue May 12, 2009 8:55 pm
I'm going to see Gwar tonight in East Peoria, Illinois. I've never seen them before, but I'm told not to wear anything nice. My bandmembers say that I'll get soaked in fake blood, urine, and semen that they shoot from the stage.
So, with all that going on, I'm going to be also seen some Dean Razorback Bass thrashing.
Has anyone else ever seen them?
Odd question, and I know I'm going to get a "try it for yourself" or two but, I've only got like $8 on me. I've used both GHS' Dave Mustaine sig. strings and DR's Dime Sig. strings and both are great but which do you find to sustain better, and to have better harmonic response?
i was just wondering something about the washy slimes. do all the imports have a green back and the USAs have a natural back? or do some of the imports have a natural back too?
Looks hideous to me, your opinions??

Ok, I was sitting on my computer like I am now and in the background I could hear lamb of god playing. Now automatically I thought headbangers ball was on so I payed no mind to it until I realised it was tuesday and headbangers ball isn't on. I turn around and the newest star trek commercial now has one of the new lamb of god songs playing on it. I honestly can not see who thought that it was badass enough to put lamb of god behind it but to each his own I guess.

Mustaine USA VMNT Limited on stage
The only colour I have seen on stage is the Transparent Amber which has not gold elements from origin:
The Transparent Red BUT without Gold elements was used also in 2008:
If Mustaine does not like Gold elements why Dean put them in the Limited Edition guitars?.
In 2009 Priest Feast tour no one of these were used.
Do you have any more pics of the USA VMNT Limited played by Mustaine?.
The Amber one is similar to the one used by Mustaine in the A Toute le Monde videoclip.
Which one do you like more (Amber, Red or Black)?.

Anybody here had a chance to put their mits on one yet?
anyone that is electronic competent and wont get zepped want to open theirs and look at the pc board and tell me what way the plugs go. I took a pic before I started thinking they could only go back one way but it isnt true. they need to allign a certain way.
here is my story in a sense.
e. my 5150 was cutting out in volume. it would go from whatever volume i was at to idle volume. similar to when you are at a bit above zero but can just barely hear the amp. I also had a loud hum. the louder you turned up the amp, the louder the ground hum was. It was not guitar cords, lighting, tubes guitars, speakers or any of that. my Engls work fine as well as all my guitars and cabs.
took the amp apart. all the fuses are ok. no loose wires or anything. I disconnected the footswitch jack from the main board. I heard that was an issue sometimes with this problem. no go.
so after inspection i found that if I pushed on the small brown filter cap that the sound completely cut out. I figured this had to be the problem.
So i ordered another 35 volt 2200 microfarad cap. drained the caps, removed the suspected bad one and replaced it. no go. the odd thing is the new cap was half the physical size of the stock one on the board. also the amp would turn on now. the powertubes light, only one preamp tube lights and none of my leds light up.
so I figured it was due to the cap looking different. so I put the old one back in and still the same thing.
my big question is, all the plugs from the transformer have a plastic end on them and are square on one end and a triangle on the other. they made them plug into the pc board with different parts so you dont plug the wrong one into the wrong plug on the pc board but what if they are turned around the other way. do they all point the same direction or do they go in different directions.
im thinking i have them plugged in incorrectly and the new filter cap may work . but maybe not. im having power issues right nwo so i cant tell till i fix that.
I've improved the musical interactions with my kids
Hello Dean forum!!!
Sorry, I haven't posted in a while..., there will be a BIG bassmantim update next week
I just had to throw this "out there". As you all know, I am a 20+ year hobby musician, metal to the core, and play in two working bands. My taste in music varies from Jazz to black metal to classical..., everything except for Britney and the likes. Recently, someone very special in my life, has "tuned me in" to songs with deep and meaningful lyrics. Be it Elton John, Elvis, The Beatles, Bread, John Lennon or Paul McCartney's solo work..., I've been taking a little break from listening to metal. A break like this is normal for me, but it usually involves one week of listening to my old "The Smiths" cd's or "Stray Cats", and then back goes in my "Peace Sells" cd.
Long story short..., last time I posted about my two girls here, my four year old was requesting Fear Factory and track number six off of "Death Magnetic" every time we hopped into the car.
The point is, I've really noticed a change in them, and alot of positive interaction with my girls since changing the music at home and in the car to stuff that we can talk about, the meaning of the songs and their relevance into our lives, and not just banging our heads to the beats.
That's it, rant over..., some stuff we are listening to:
Yellow submarine ~ The Beatles (my four year old says that her teacher sings this one at school):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCsYDZ2M04M
One sided love affair ~ Elvis (easy lyrics for a four and six year old to understand):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CAETVkx3Yk
Blue Eyes ~ Elton John (my girls and I all have blue eyes )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pil9raVqYs
Ok, I was talking to a friend of mine at school. Apparently he has a band going and needed a rhythm player. I know he is good at lead. In fact, he has helped a band (Dear Hunter) open up for Slipknot! Anyways, He asked me to be the rhythm player since I have told him that, that is what I do best. I said yes of course. I am so excited. I already have to learn 3 songs. He writes all his stuff so I have stuff to learn before I hardly jump in to the "pool." I am so happy. We have a really good vocalist. His influence is George Fisher (Cannibal Corpse). He is way good at that style. He managed to get a drummer that is BLIND! Oh man, I am just so excited!
Has anyone....

Had their guitars Feitenised? As in had their geets modified with the Buzz Feiten system
Is it worth doing or is the improvement minimal?
custom agile on the way...
well, a custom PS3000MAP? would be heading my way
specs:
PS body
Mahoganybody
flamed maple cap
with maple veneer on top(i asked for the flames to come meet at an angle...thus, the veneer)
Thin maple neck
maple fret board with no inlays(i may do something else later on with inlays...)
24 frets
13.5 whatever radius frets
Alinco II Zebra neck pickup
Alnico V Zebra bridge pickup
cream rings(i may change this later on to black?)
matching headstock
natural binding on body, none on neck or headstock
gold hardware
amber bell knobs
Agile String thru body bridge
Matte rootbeer finish over the entire guitar(with the exception of the fret board)
i forgot to include the Push/pull knob for tone, and another vol knob for the other pickup. oh well...
and i got a quote for this without the maple cap, and i wasn't saving a whole lot...so yup. :bigthumb:
inspirations?
price? less than a New Schecter C-1 Classic

I just got a second chance offer on E Bay for a Soltero.
There was one listed last week as a hardtail. Apparently the winning bidder didn't pay up. So it's a Trans Amber ?? Soltero, MIK, with Hard Case for 395 plus 25 shipping.
I can't really afford it. But I want it.
Would I be out of line putting in a counter offer?
Play like Jerry Cantrell? Any tips, and tricks, scales and what not would be great. I'm just looking to expand my musical vocab a bit.
Going to see Fueled By Fire and some smaller Dutch thrash bands on Friday with a long time friend of mine. This is gonna rock man! A kickass night full of oldschool trash! I got my white basketball shoes, tight pants and leather jacket all ready. Should be good times!
Anyone else going to see a show soon?
The inevitable has finally happened....
Well I know there was a few jokes going round a month or so back on the forums about why Kirk Hammett was never given a signature wah pedal, but finally it's happened.
Personally I think it actually looks pretty rad and it's based off his rackmount wah sound. Strangely though, it has an off switch....

hey guys i have an important question! haha
did anyone attend the Kreator show May 12th at the culture room in ft.lauderdale?!?!
Wheres the dude w/the............
camo vendetta he was jonesing for. I got one and I need to ask him some questions.
Saw Kreator and Exodus Tonight 5/14 at Headliner's music hall here in Louisville.
this place headliner's only holds like a 1000 at most, but the sound is unbelievable and they have been getting bigger bands.
I mean kreator and Exodus, it was a 80s thrash dream for me.
this is the same venue i saw Trivium and all that remains or whatever that band is called.
Kreator was so badass, everything they did sounded flawless and better than the record. And by the way, their new record hordes of chaos is incredible. They are one of the kings of thrash, put on such a great show. I don't remember what amps they played, but it was awesome
Exodus was great as well, their tone was a little cluttered, they play the peavey triple XXX amps, it just sometimes didn't seem clear, anyway i'm glad they are done with the rawr vocals that they did randomly on their 2007 album, They rocked the concert as well, no rawring, came to their senses i guess.
Lots of incredible guitar playing for sure.

New House Day
Well, I technically moved in on Sunday, but finally got out of my parents house after being out of college for a year. It's nice being able to use the Peavey at night, even though I don't dare crank on it now that I actually have neighbors.
I guess I won't be buying so much guitar stuff for a while now
At least now it will look better when I'm trying to pick up a chick at the bar, won't be asking if she wants to go back to my parents place Closer to work now too, only about a 7 minute drive vs. a 13 or so.
Floyded Vs...why so hard to find?
It's hard to find Floyded Dean Vs, why is that?
Has it got something to do with the thickness of the body, or what?
Seven String question

Has anyone played a esp ltd steven carpentar seven string compared to an ibanez 7 string. I've tried the cheap ibanez 7 strings and really like the neck on them but I like the look of the steven carpentar more. I tried a schecter seven string and I absolutely hated the neck on those because of how thick it was. So which neck profile is it closer too?

Peavey Vypyr tube model delays?
I just stopped by the local guitar shop to see if they have gotten any of the 60 watt vypyrs in yet. As of earlier in the week they were expecting them by early next week, so I figured I'd try once more before the weekend. The guy I talked to called their Peavey rep to find out the status on them and apparently there have been some QC issues, so Peavey has halted shipments and is checking over every one before shipping it out.
Anyone else hear anything about this? Any of you in the know have an idea of when they might start shipping again? Rough percentage of how many are troublesome?
Now I'm deciding between just waiting it out and running up to Guitar Center, who probably has them in stock, to get one. I don't mind waiting an extra week, maybe two, but if we're talking a month then I'd rather pick one up with a slim chance of having to exchange it.
does anyone know where i can get nevermore bootlegs?
and are there any other fans out there?
Okay, so my cousin is getting into the wrestling shows and all that and i have a bunch of ECW videos that i used to watch so i gave that to him, so he watched it and called me into the living room and said "Isnt this one of your favorite songs?" and the entrance theme was Walk by Pantera.
just thought that was kinda cool and thought i should share.

Got some video pronage for you guys! There were a few clips up of a 200es for a while but I didnt really think it captured how good the amp actually sounds. I did a vid of my own to give a better impression of the amp (still no where near as good as it is in real life). For some reason the video is all goofy but the sound is still "ok". Enjoy!

alright - I am having the hardest time coming up w/ gifts for my groomsmen. I don't wanna go down the "been there-done that" road - no flasks, steins, money clips, etc. I am trying to get something unique for four pretty different guys. Help me come up with cool ideas - I am drawing a blank. If you were in a wedding party - what do you think would be a cool gift to get? Please - nothing GUITAR RELATED, no money and nothing crazy expensive. Your help is appreciated!

Got this today from a coworker's parent. For free! Late 50s single speaker JBL Signature Sound cabinet in perfect working order. The value of this thing is way out of my range.
I am in a rut. I can't find anything to play that is interesting. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty I would love to play but since I suck I can't play most of what I want to. I just can' play the fast stuff, Children of Bodom, some Mastodon, etc. I even bought the Guitar Grimoire book to help with scales and that is just confusing the sh*t out of me. Any sugesstions?
Does this sound like a scam?
Here is an e-mail I got from some douchebag for my Mark III that I had advertised on Craigslist. Notice anything "fishy"?
"Hello.
I would like to buy your Mesa Boogie Mark III combo which
you wanna for sale I saw the advert on craigslist and i am interested
in buying it and i want it fast.I should have bargain on the price but
due to my quick want of the item i would settle for that amount. I
would like to make arrangement for the payment of the item now and i
want you to know that i will be paying you with a cashier's check. If
you are okay with my procedures you should get back with the name and
address you want the cashier's check issued to so i can forward it
to my secretary asap to write the cashier's check in the name
provided and mail to the address with phone
number.
I would be so glad if you can sell this item to me as i am very
much in need of it.As for the pick up i will have one of my worker to
come for the pick up after you notify that you have got and cashed the
cashier's check sent to you.Get back to me asap so i can know the next
step
to take.
I will be waiting to read a reply from you soonest.
Stay Blessed and Best Regards."
For those of you that haven't encountered such trickery before, this is a classic, textbook example of someone trying to rip you off. I know it is blatently obvious to most of us, but I thought there might be someone out there that actually hadn't heard this one before. Of course the shitty english skills are a dead give away, but the description of the entire process itself- I want to pay for it right now-Gimme your name/address-I'll send a cashiers check-my assisstant will pick up the item. It's always the same scam. Of course I sent a reply to him, a very honest and profanity laced reply. That's my PSA for the day, stay safe kids

Not many people realise, but before Gary Moore packed in his book of modal theory and took up the blues, he could shred the paint off the walls.
Here's a live video and interview from 1984 with one of his most badassed songs, Murder In The Skies. Definatley one of the greatest examples of Northern Irish musical talent.

Hey guys! Can you help me out with my new song?
Well I've been working the past few days on a new song, inspired by my father and my past. I haven't exactly had the best of relationships with my dad and I've always felt there was something missing between us. The only real connection we ever had was through music, and so I decided to write a song that hopefully one day he'll be able to hear and realise that I'm not as worthless as perhaps he once thought.
Anyway, sentiments aside, I decided to consciously remove myself from my usual kind of song and decided to do something in the vein of Hendrix's Little Wing, a stratty ballad with different chord melodies and whatnot. It's only in the beginning stages, tonight is the first I've recorded of it and I wanted you guys to critique it, is it good, is it bad, do the chords and melodies work, is the tuning right etc etc
Keep in mind its in the very very rough stages and nowhere near complete, this is only the main melody/chorus done so far.
Anyway, here it is - give it a listen, blag about it as much as you want and say anything you think about it.
Cheers!

just wondering what neck profile they have???, i'm a BIIIIIIG c neck fan and not to keen on v necks so it's sorta a deal breaker

Like talking and getting stuff off my chest. My cat died today and I miss her. She was my best friend for 17 years. We went downstairs this morning and she was just laying there. She waited for me, my mom and my brother to say goodbye before she went on.
I think she had cancer, she slimmed down A LOT within the year, but her stomach stayed almost inflated. I miss her.
17 years, almost 18. I couldn't have asked for a better cat to live and grow up with.
The orange cat in the picture is Lion, we bought them (Missy and Lion) when I was just a year old. They were the best birthday present ever. He's taking it okay right now, but I'm gonna keep an eye on him. I don't want him moping around.
They would always be together, no matter what. They slept together and where-ever one went the other followed. She couldn't meow either, every once and a while she did though.
The group pictures are Missy, Lion, Baby (black), Ginger (calico)
The pictures on the chair were a week ago, and the one's where she was laying down were in January. I already miss her.
RIP Missy.
Well, I finally started to use a metronome. I have figured out my max so far. I can go up to about 290-295. After that, I lose all control and mess up way too much. I see what everyone means when they say these things help!

I'm carrying my guitar on the plane to Germany. There is a max size for carry-on guitars, so I need a smaller size gig bag. But I may have to place it overhead, so I want something with some padding.

GOATWHORE: New Song To Premiere On Sirius/XM's Liquid Metal - May 12, 2009
Starting Wednesday, May 13, fans can tune in to Sirius/XM's Liquid Metal to hear the first single, "Apocalyptic Havoc", from GOATWHORE's upcoming album, "Carving Out The Eyes Of God".
"Carving Out The Eyes of God" is scheduled for release in the U.S. on June 23 via Metal Blade Records.
For the follow-up to 2006's "A Haunting Curse", GOATWHORE headed back to St. Petersburg, Florida to record with producer Erik Rutan at Mana Recording Studios, with mastering being handled by Alan Douches of West West Side.
Vocalist Ben Falgoust comments on the direction of the new album: "I don't really know how to explain this. I don't want to come off with the typical speech about how this record is our best yet and all of that. I will say that I am quite pleased how it has turned out and all parts relating to it. I feel every member put a great deal of effort into their part of the project. I even feel Erik Rutan busted his ass even more this time to make us feel that we didn't take any steps backwards in the recording and production of this release
I don't even really care what the critics say. I think the end result is basically coming up with something you have put a lot of work into and the satisfaction achieved in completing it. I will say that the new material is ripping metal and we still have that 'GOATWHORE' sound, whatever that may mean for each individual that enjoys or hates what we do. Just look at it as another step in the evolution of this band. Each person that hears it will have his or her own perception of it. Like it or not, we don't have a say in it. The only thing we can do is just keep writing the way we do and accept the criticism. Doesn't mean we are gonna listen to the criticism and change. Just give it an honest listen and if you dig it, awesome! If you don't, then pass it on to a friend or use it as a new drink coaster."
"Carving Out The Eyes Of God" track listing:
01. Apocalyptic Havoc
02. The All-Destroying
03. Carving Out The Eyes Of God
04. Shadow Of A Rising Knife
05. Provoking The Ritual Of Death
06. In Legions, I Am Wars Of Wrath
07. Reckoning Of The Soul Made Godless
08. This Passing Into The Power Of Demons
09. Razor Flesh Devoured
10. To Mourn And Forever Wander Through Forgotten Doorways
GOATWHORE is:
Ben Falgoust - vocals
Sammy Duet - guitar
Nathan Bergeron - bass
Zack Simmons - drums
Metal Mark of SkullsNBones.com conducted an interview with Ben Falgoust before GOATWHORE's April 30, 2009 concert in Atlanta,

Dean Bolt-on for $299.00, I have no idea if this is a good deal.
Is anyone into these guys? I saw a video on the ball this weekend, and it kicked. I'm not usually into the Viking metal. But these guys bring it . I downloaded Twilight of the Thunder God off iTunes. came with a bonus live concert from Summer Breeze 2007. Good Deal.
Dimarzio Deactivator X Neck Vs EMG H4A
Ok, I'm doing another thing with a guitar pickup as a bridge pickup in a bass-- but I'm going lower output this time. I want a really clean, bright tone-- but with some low end still in tact.
So... pretend I'm not putting it in a bass. How do these 2 compare in a guitar? Their resistance ratings are pretty close-- but the EMG uses Alnico magnets(which I'm pretty sure I like, heh). I know there's a lot more to it-- but still.
Has any one used either pickup, or both? How did they sound in your guitar? All the reviews make it sound like either pickup would work OK-- although I think the Dimarzio would have better low end.
Long shot, I know-- but I had to ask.

Excuse the horrible quality, please. You can hardly hear the rhythm riff, but this is probably the best improv solo i've ever recorded, so i'm pretty happy with it. Can't wait to get my REAL recording gear.

I'll put pictures up if I get any responses, w/COA too. Thanks!

May I present to you... CLUNGE!
So me and a mate who plays bass were mucking about earlier and he challenged me as a joke to make up my own genre, a challenge to which I readily rose!
I decided to make a quick stupid song with which to demonstrate my brand spanking new genre, which has been named Clunge.
When I enquired as to what Clunge should entail the answer was "Lots of minge", and I think I captured the essence of the genre pretty well.
You'll find plenty of st00pid noises, funk guitar, funk bass, cat noises made with a guitar, sitar emulations and of course, lots of minge.
Bearing in mind i made this in literally 10 minutes using my Dean, harmonizer and wah pedal and a crap drum sample to which nothing is in time, but anyway - I hope you get as much as half laugh out of it as we did!

30 years ago tonight I was in Austin, Mn. at the Riverside Arena watching Brownsville Station and Blue Oyster Cult. I have slides somewhere from the show.
It was a Good Time I remember well.
Discovered this looking at a stack of concert stubs from '76-'82. I had gotten sidetracked with them while doing chores yesterday.
May '79 - Sept. '79 was a GREAT Summer. This show, Van Halen, Bad Company, Cheap Trick, Beach Boys, Doobie Brothers, ARS, BTO, Ted Nugent, Scorpions, Blackfoot, The Romantics, Judas Priest, KISS, Mott The Hoople, Cheap Trick again. The Fall wasn't to bad either.

by Blazer on Mon May 18, 2009 10:53 pm
Well, the conclusion of a month of very hard work and over three hundred bucks in expenses would have been today. When I bought my 1976 Ibanez Les Paul Copy it was in terrible shape.
And I subsequently applied everything I learned from working at Knooren Guitars for eleven years and counting in the restoration of this guitar.
So I figured that when it was time to sell it on, I would get an honest price for the effort and Money and the hours I put in this guitar, it's a Lawsuit Ibanez, a collector's item and it plays better and sounds better than ever before.
So when I went to the shop where I bought the guitar they were all "Look at that, is that REALLY the same guitar?", "That must have taken a lot of work.", "Well done!"
But when I placed my cards on the table and let my intentions known about wanting to sell the guitar, their facial expressions suddenly turned into strained facial expressions. The manager told me "This guitar is unsellable."
So I went "What?"
"Yes, this is a vintage Ibanez from the desirable period, yes, you did a killer job restoring it but the guitar is NOT in original condition, NOBODY wants a completely overhauled guitar, it's just not what people want. " He then gave me an estimate of what the guitar would be worth and it wasn't even enough to pay back the money I put in.
I can't remember feeling so grief stricken before as I felt after he told me that. "So you're basically telling me that I did all of this: the stripping, the filling of the hole, the re-routing of the pickup holes, the hours of sanding, the hiring of somebody who would paint it in a professional way, the buffing by hand so it would shine like a mirror for nothing? WAS ALL MY WORK A WASTE OF TIME?"
I guess they saw that they stepped on my soul here, they became aware that they severely rubbed me the wrong way. So they began to say say something among the lines of "No, you had fun doing this didn't you?" and "You can always hang it on the wall and show it to people." but that's not the point here. "I restored this guitar so it could be played, the way it is now means that somebody can use it as their main instrument for years and years to come. I SIMPLY DO NOT RESTORE GUITARS JUST TO HANG THEM ON THE WALL AS SOME KIND OF TROPHY!"
I left that store a broken man: I love working with wood, I love building guitars, I enjoyed every minute of restoring this Ibanez but it doesn't pay. NOBODY wants to buy my self build guitars and now it has been pushed in my face that even after such a successful restoration, it didn't earn me a dime.
Sometimes I wonder why I even bother...
New Line 6 Pointless Gadgetry
Ok, so I was looking around for wireless systems, & I found what Line 6 have just released, the Relay G30, a digital wireless system... with "Tone presets match the sounds of guitar cables"
I'm sorry, but this just seems like a pointless thing to put into a wireless system, I cannot see how cables would affect your tone THAT much to require emulation type stuff. Whats next? Line 6 Picks!

New Amp Day
by ChadMang on Tue May 19, 2009 12:27 am
Just got like 10 minutes ago and it's pretty good, i havnt had to much to experiment with it, so im makin' this short and sweet, but it's.................................... VERY NICE!!!
PRON is here!!!
I just picked up Off The Rails by Rudy Sarzo at Guitar Center today, I've been wanting it for awhile now. Have you read it?
Seymour Duncan VS. Swineshead
Hey Hey Hey everyone. I have landed firmly (after days and days of narrowing down) on either a set of SD Super Distortions & Jazz or a set of Swineshead XBucker & Condor. I will be ordering the chosen set with gold hardware. My question to all out there is how is the output of the SD Super Distortions, and how much of a difference is there between the Super Distortions and the XBucker. I want a high output pickup for Metal (Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Jag Panzer, Evergrey, Stratovarius, Brainstorm, etc.), and I want to know if the SD will cover this...if not I will be getting the Xbucker which I hear will more than cover this stuff.
P.S. The pup I choose MUST be able to handle aggressive, percussive, and technical palm mutes.
P.P.S. These two are my absolute final choices, the only other pickup suggestions I would like (if you have them) are for passive high-output pickups that are available with gold covers and are under $250. My first choice was BKP Miracle man or nailbomb, but it would have been 400 bucks going into a 500 dollar guitar. Even though my fiancee bought me the guitar, I still feel incredibly uneasy putting 400 dollar pickups in a 500 dollar guitar.
P.P.P.S. (I suck at wrapping-up posts) The guitar is a Dean White Gold Caddy. Mahogony body. Rosewood fb.
Well not yet but its coming. I found a sweet deal on a red evo s3 on ebay (thankyou 3cardcannon) for $110. It is coming with a EMG 89, coil tapping switch, grover tuners, new bridge, and completely re-finished neck.
here are some pics from the seller
Hey guys, i've recently been looking into heads and I think its about time that i start getting some long term savings ready for a sick ass head. I do plan on trying out some amps but i wanted to ask about the amps I have 0 access to. so...
Tell me about your
Engl amps (Powerball, fireball, Invader etc)
Carvin Amps (V3 mainly)
eVh 5150 III, if youve played those.
I dont care for 5150's/6505's or Mesas because I didnt like them when i jammed on them and i dont plan on Engl SE's, Bogners or Soldanos because of the price tag, Im at a $2000 max saving limit.
I'm typically looking for something with decent cleans, a crunch channel with a nice ammount of mids for evh/ satriani type stuff and a gain high enough for all territories of metal. At the same time a good amp to find your own tone.
Thanks a whole bunch guys
Rob
Heavy String gauge possibly warping a neck?
Well I know a guy that claims his string set warped his guitar neck and I just dont believe it. He's running a 12-56 set in standard tuning.
Now help me prove him wrong guys. I know... or at least I "think" I know a properly set up strat (What he claims he screwed the neck up on) will handle a 12-56 gauge set of strings... I mean SRV did it... Duh itll handle it.
Am I right?
If not i suppose I'll suck it up and admit defeat.. I guess perfection is hard to maintain

if any of you buy gear on ebay, how can i verify some items?
im eyeballing things like a floyd rose. i see some going for around 250.00 is that a fair price? secondly i saw some others for around 80.00 or so. how can i verify if the cheap ones are originals or just licensed? is there much of a difference between the two? also some of the so called FR's just dont look like the real deal, maybe they just look funny chromed out? what do you think?
Anyone have any experience with these products? If so, let me know... I have some brain picking to do.

Does anybody else play in this bash the heck out it style? He's pausing and flailing one arm up. I saw Shannon live with Godsmack from the front row last year and it was incredible. I think they should play Deans though. That would rule.

im thinkin bout selling my vypyr and my vox and getting a rev jr.
good idea or bad idea?
Rumor has it Mr. Iommi is testing Engl amplification on tour
He already gets a great and massive sound with Laney. BUT, I would be very interested in an Iommi Signature ENGL. As long as it isn't silly expensive. Seems like it would be a nice pairing with my Blackmore.
The Essential Tool Kit for the Guitarist........?
Who knows what should be essential for a guitar enthusiast in the way of "tools" for fixing, repairing, maintaining, and modifying their various different guitars?
I'm not talking about the common stuff that is sold in "guitar tool kits," like string winders and string clippers...
I'm interested in hearing about not just the type of tool, but the sizes as well.
For instance:
- The nut wrench for removing that nut that holds toggle switches in place
- The nut wrench for removing that nut that holds a female amp jack in place
- The allen wrench that fits new volume/tone knobs on
- The nut wrench for removing/installing tuners
...so forth and so on.
Any ideas?
The Agile 7 string V!! And I'm in a good financial position for this run.
BTW, this is a somewhat pointless thread.
HI im new to this forum and was wonder in your opinion do you think i'm an okay guitarist for being 14 and I want to know your favorite dean guitar(or bass)
my youtube account
the opening video is my only current one my others were a while ago.

What color should I go for? DONE!
So lately, I've been working on refinishing 2 of my guitars. One is almost done and just waiting for clear coat, but the other one I'm struggling to choose what color I want to put on there.
here's the design:
I'm deciding between either, black, red, or white. I'm leaning towards red right now but let me know what you guys think.
If I want to setup a guitar........
in like the tuning of Amon Amarth which I think is like the 6th string tuned down to A. Do I need to use like a .060 top string set? And would I have to change the nut?
I am building a guitar
Here it is on the mill and thats my dad on the side
here is a pic of the body
and here is another that shows the grain better
Specs:
22 frets, dean neck from dime-o-flame
Blackout in the bridge
Carvin m22t in the middle
burstbucker classic in the neck
It is going to be floyded
Each pickup will have a volume pot and a /spin-a-slit pot (to split the coils)
The blackout will have a tone instead of a splitter pot
The whole guitar is solid maple, the back is figured too
I will paint it all solid brown
If I forgot anything just ask I think thats all
Just kidding its going to be blueburst

Buffing The Wood :: Any Tips?
Hello,
As some of you might be aware of, I have a gorgeous Soltero Standard. I love everything about it, however I notice that I'm starting to get some of those normal surface swirls (isn't sure of the proper term) and I really like having a shiny finish...
What are some essential tools for doing this? Is there a special kind of oil or something that I can use? At the moment, I've got the stuff from a Dunlop cleaning kit.
http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dbase/pics/products/4/9/8/251498.jpg
So, does anyone have any tips for me?
Shane
which do you prefer les pauls or solteros
after having to sell off all of my guitar gear along with everything else. i am back on my feet. so time to get some new gear. i decided that if i am going to do it why not do it right. i have owned 3 solteros and 2 pes pauls. the les pauls were years ago. but i owned the solteros in the past year. an SL, MHG and a standard. my question is which do you guys prefer? i am looking at the USA soltero and the les paul traditional goldtop. if you own both types of guitars which do ou like better? i will be playing everything from blues to down tuned metal.

First off, the graphix on the hood was totally the owners design and idea....I'm not feeling it at all. He wanted a black and red two tone paint job with some silver in it too (His seat is black, red and silver). So this is what I did for him. In a huge time crunch might I add.
Ok now for the fun. This is what I started with, she needs a little TLC
Sprayed black basecoat. Sorry my camera is shooting blurry lately
Now masking off for the red (2 hrs of masking for 10min of painting )
It's like unwrapping a present on Christmas! Oh goody goody gum drops!

Cold Turkey
by Wombat on Wed May 20, 2009 6:20 pm
Ever hear John Lennon's song about heroin withdrawal, "Cold Turkey"
Here it is as a promo film clip.
It features what I think is a pretty mean little guitar riff.

Be sure to check out my thread in the Trading Post!
Please take a look if you have the time!
So you think youre good at guitar....
well...think again. Not to insult, but this kid at his age is probably better than most of the players here. Wow is all I got to say. He has a big future in front of him. Check out all the videos of him, hes amazing.

I'm trying to fine tune my rig...
But I need some help.
So just to kick things off I want to let you guys know that I've been doing a lot of shows lately and I'm trying to get the perfect rig for me, and I'm pretty darn close.
Right now my signal goes through the wireless (because I'm clumsy) and then into my pedal board, into a EB volume, Crybaby Wah, Zakk OD, Digitech Death Metal, EVH flange, phase 90, boss tuner. All that is powered by a DC brick. Then my signal goes into my amp. Mesa Boogie Stiletto deuce head, with Mesa 4 12 Rectifier cab.
My main questions for you guys are, I'm planning to loose the death metal pedal and look at delays, I was told delays are more expensive because the circuit board is more complex than others. so do you have any you would like to recommend. I also have a problem turning on my OD because of all the extra noise, but if I pick up something to take care of that then can I keep it in my effects loop? I don't want something cluttering up my board that will stay on all the time and I won't ever actually turn on or off during a set. How is the Boss NS-2? I like the price tag on it as opposed to others (when I say others yes I obviously mean ISP Decameter )
Also if anyone has any suggestions on somethings I could do to help my sound feel free to speak up. I've spent the past 5 years trying to get the sound in my head to come through speakers, and one thing I've learned is that there is nothing too miniscule to not matter.
Thanks for reading, and I know you'll be a big help.

Idea for a new project the 5150-1/2
by Blazer on Thu May 21, 2009 12:27 am
For a while I have been owning a cute little half scale guitar called the "Volcano Rock-a-teer"
Which is my "play-it-when-sitting-on-my-lazy-chair" guitar, I tune it in A-A tuning.
But the small body and tight cutaways do not make it a serious instrument and so I've toying around with the idea of making a similar guitar but with a bigger body but still smaller than a regular strat sized unit. I also want to make a neck to my own specs for that project. So I've been searching around for wood to use and found a couple of left over pieces of mahogany left from my telecaster built, from which I can make the body and a piece of birdseye maple too short to make a normal sized neck from.
And so I began to design a downsized version of Eddie Van Halen's famous striped Kramer. I can use my Gibson explorer to copy the "Banana" headstock shape from and I still have surplus Humbuckers lying around which will be perfect for that, the pickup will be in a slanted position and seeing as how a trem will not work with that scale I'll give it a non trem strings through hardtail but placed on a piece of aluminium in the shape of a Floyd Rose profile to at least get the look right.
As I'm writing this down, I'm just finishing up the pencil designs for this project. They will serve as a base to make my routing templates from.
As always, I'll keep you guys informed.
L500XL
by shupe13 on Thu May 21, 2009 12:44 am
As some of you know I just got a DFH. Yea years late. Used and starving for attention. The frets on the high e side are a little sharp and the neck pup is not working but, it quickly became my fave axe. I love it.
I have to say that I am super impressed with the L500XL. The bite and harmonics kill. I like much more than the DB, sorry diehards, but thats how I feel. The DB will stay in my Razorback. Different sounds are good but IMO the 500 blows it out of the water.
Is anyone using the L500XL in a different axe? If so, does it have the same bite that it has in the CFH? Is there any other L500XL fans here?
I know the L500XL is old news for most.

Ok, I can't find any of my allen keys, and I had tons of them, I don't know wtf happened. But I need to adjust the floyd on one of my guitars by tomorrow.
Anyone knows a way to "replace" an allen key for my floyd for now?
Please I need somekind of McGiver idea here!!

Yo,
I was thinking of perhaps spicing up my RG a little by colouring in the white sharktooth inlays. Has anyone colored in white dot or other inlays before, and do you think it would stay for long?
kind of random

I know most of you do not know me outside of this electronic place of meeting, but I pose a question.......
if someone were to ask you what my 5 favorite bands are, what would your list consist of?
this question does serve a purpose.....I am not just curious for no reason

How do you get the rhythm tone on Mississippi Queen? I'm not there yet. Any tips?
How did you get into Dean Guitars?
Topic Title
Answer: Through Pantera
My Uncle was watching the CFH era Home Video, and it showed Dime playing a beautiful Blue and Black GEET so i researched it and found out it was a Dean and that's how i got into Dean Guitars.
then i started obsessing over BC Rich and ESP(LTD) guitars, then i stumbled across Becoming the Dragon(Trivium) and thought it was an ok song but i liked the Deans they had so that sparked the obsession for me again.
but my like for Trivium only lasted about 4 days.
NGD-NDC 7 String Ibanez
by Halfaed on Thu May 21, 2009 5:07 pm
7420, it's a little beat up but I have plans for that. I also have blackouts on the way for it.
Bought it on e-bay for $260 and I got a used Ibanez case for it at my local geet shop for $50.
Another one I don't know how to play!
Cloning a Krankenstein cab, owner wanted
