Did cadillacs ever have a "small" headstock or get made neck-through body?
Dean Dixie Rebel
by Spite on Mon Jun 01, 2009 3:11 pm
Im seriously considering buying the Dean Dixie Rebel as my next guitar purchase.
But I do have a few questions that I can hopefully get some answers to here.
Its an import, aye? China or Korea?
The LFR, similar to the DFHs? No issues with the one on the DFH.
If its bad, how does an OFR from Schaller fit in the original space?
Does it fit in an ordinary ML hardshell case?
How is the neck? Same profile as the DFH? (My left arm is a bit skewed. I cant play an SG's neck as well as my DFH due to it.)
No shops around here carry these babies, so I just thought I'd ask.
Trujillo's bass is what brand?

Dean Stealth vs. Dean SplitTail
I've been asking some questions about the SplitTail on other threads, but I still want some opinions of these 2 guitars. I would like to know the pros and cons of both if possible.
Which one of these would you choose if you were looking for a guitar that was unfloyded? I really don't need a floyd right now and I want both of these but I can only choose one.
Please Reply!!!

ESP tuners, EMGhz p/u's, set bound neck, black hardware.
The color os like coffeebean.

I'm not much of a Dragonforce fan, but I caught them live on Saturday.
They played a great set. Highly entertaining and energetic.
I had heard that they were jerks. Not so. Not at all. Herman Li was one of the nicest guys I've met in the metal world. He acted like a normal person. That was refreshing.
I'm not going to run out and buy their albums (not my style), but with all the Dragonforce bashing that happens on the internet, I thought I should post my impressions.
So I've been using my little SS practice amp recently, and today I decide to plug in to my bigger tube amp. All of sudden, my tone is a lot less punchy and much more nasally sounding. Like the amp is trying to get back to it's old tone, but it all of a sudden doesn't have enough ass behind it to get the bass back to where it was. Could it be the speaker? All the controls are in the exact same spot, by the way.
Forked headstock questions
Would someone please explain to me the different sizes in Dean forked headstocks?
I see that their are at least two sizes, but don't know the history behind them.
Thanks!

Hey all...been busy....
by Agent J on Tue Jun 02, 2009 2:51 am
...with Ed in the studio, my original band Sinnergy gearing up for a summer tour in the NW, and building this little baby:
That's an 80's Charvel Ft. Worth body, a Jackson Performer neck (off a PS2), a Screamin Demon in the bridge, a Duckbucker in the neck, and a brand spankin' new Floyd! I got the neck used, so it needs a fret job, and I used an old crappy pot that I had in another guitar, so I have to redo some of the wiring. But for a first effort, I think it turned out pretty good.
Just thought I'd post this and see if any of you see what's happening in this photo.
what happened did dean leave the company? i didnt hear anything like that so can anyone clarify this?
Mine goes more to the left.....does yours????
by sac on Tue Jun 02, 2009 4:20 am
So I'm in process of painting AhsanU's RB V. I was putting some tape on the bevels and noticed that the bottom wing horn is shorter than the top one. So I went and measured mine and it was the same thing. The bottom tip is like 4in and the top is almost 6.
Is every RB V like this? Am I the last to find out? I've never noticed this before. If this is nothing new then feel free to put pictures of bacon and funny animal pics as a reply.

Okay, so the choices have come down to a set of EMGs, a set of Dimarzio evolutions, or either the JB/'59 or the Custom 5/59. Opinions?
Has anyone ever been there, or does anyone know much about the place. I already know a lot about it, it is my first choice for higher education. I was just curious if anyone had any experience with the school. If anyone has any experience with Berklee in Boston, that would also be appreciated.
Thanks Guys
Writting better riffs
by benpari on Tue Jun 02, 2009 8:37 pm
Does anyone have any advice for writing better riffs. I have come to the conclusion that a lot of my riffs are similar and the vast majority of them aren't that interesting.
My current practice schedule, designed to increase my technique(I can shred like a fiend because of it though ), definitely isn't helping that particular skill.
The stuff I have written so far is mostly the result of just trying to change black sabbath, metallica, megadeth (etc..) riffs until I have something original.
Now I realize it is art, and can't necessarily be approached in an algorithmic way, but if I want to greatly increase my riff writing ability what should I be spending an hour a day doing?
Thanks guys.
Well, I'm re-painting my room and thought, "Wouldn't it be cool to have a wall with the EVH Stripes?" The only problem is, I have no idea how to get that kind of paint job. So, can anyone give me any pointers on how to go about doing this?

I was wondering if anybody on the forum has one.If so,are they pretty good?My local music shop just got in a bunch and i thought about getting one.I have an Ibanez exotic wood but,its not an electric and thats kinda what I'm shooting for.Maybe the koa with built in tuner?
Guitars NOT tuning at all
by Pav on Wed Jun 03, 2009 8:54 am
Maybe one of you guys can tell me that I am not alone with this problem.
2 days ago during my bands practice session both of my Deans refuse to tune - the room was a little bit warmer than usual and the guitars stayed in tune OK for about 30 minutes. After that they went crazy - the tuning just kept going out within seconds and not just a little. This affected both my V inferno with fixed bridge and my Razorback Explosion with the floating trem.
After another hot day my V Inferno seemed to be OK - I played it all day and didn't have to tune it once.
Last night we played a gig and I took with me my V Inferno and Gibson Explorer as a back up - same problem again!!!! Even the Gibson guitar which I had for 8 years and never had one tuning problem with it. Both guitars became unplayable within one song
Have you seen anything like that before?

Odd mix of pix: Night Ranger, Donna Jean & Steve Martin
Ok, this is probably the oddest combination of updates in a single day I've ever posted:
Butch's 5/1 Donna Jean Godchaux Band
Butch's 5/30 Steve Martin appearance at the Grand Ole Opry
Mark's 5/16 Night Ranger set from the Wildflower Festival
That was actually the first time I ever saw Night Ranger. They inundated the airwaves back in the day, but I never saw them then. They have a bunch of energy though.
See if you notice what I did. There's a hint in one of the shots. When you finally spot it, you'll probably go "WTF?" Bonus points for anybody who figures out how it's done.
Nostaliga Pickups Going in my Caddy
I'm about to put a pair of Nostalgia pickups in my purple Caddy.
Has anyone here ever used this combo before? I like the tone it has, but I'm hoping to wake up a little more crunch and sustain from it.
I pretty much trust what Steve from BRG says and what Pat Baker told me at DOA, so I'm going for it. The suggested the Baker Act Bridge in my Razorback and it turned into a fire breather.
Does anyone here use this combination in your Caddy? I'd just be curious to hear what you think of them.
how do i tell where a Dean is from if no country is on HS
obviously ive seen the ones that say USA or Korea or China. but what if there is nothing but just the serial number?
the one i found has SN : Y06070455
is there somewhere i can look that SN up?
How do you read a non USA Serial Number?
Hey I wanna figure out when m Chinese DFH was made but I dont know how to read the serial number on it. someone help me please?
I dont know if you could just call this like meggaa fret buzz but,
my guitar that i just baught used. (an old ltd MC-200, its like an SG shape) has a weeird thing with it. when i play the third fret of any string, it will sound just like reallly crappy, like a big clunk. it either sounds like half of it is playing the 3rd fret and half is playing the 4th fret, or when i play the third fret, it just completely plays the note above it.
can anyone help me?
also, the strings werent that bad when i got the guitar, but i never changed them. should i try changing them? if so, a lighter or higher gauge?
Stuck at work for 2 more hrs tiki!
Yep, this is your gov't money at work...
Ok, I got the Peavey VYPYR. Most already know. I will give it a quick review. Ok, If you don't read the manual or do your homework on youtube or whathaveyou, this amp will present a challenge. It would be hard for you to figure out how to set the levels of distortion or the amp models levels or what ever you may be doing. But, once you have that down, this is one of the nicest easiest things I have ever used. For the money, you cannot beat this thing. So many effects, models, and more EFFECTS!!! I love it so much. not really guitar related... but oh well.
looking to get my first drum kit. acoustic is not an option. what is the best kit i can get for under $400? used is fine. and since these are electronic, i'm assuming i can easily somehow plug it into the computer to record?
to clarify what i'm looking for... nothing fancy. i just want something i can mess around with every once in a while. also i'd like to be able to record with this since i hate using a handheld drum machine.
Dean DC
by Kingratt on Thu Jun 04, 2009 12:27 am
Hey guys,
A local guitar shop has a used Dean DC for sale and I was hoping someone could give me some info on this model as I haven't been able to google anything useful. I am guessing that this might be a model sold during the "dark years" at Dean. The guitar appears to be in decent shape with the exception of two missing volume/tone knobs. Also, if anyone had an idea of what this guitar is worth and if it is a model worth picking up if the price is right.
Anybody seen the new ESP models for this fall? I don't think I'm breaking any rules, I won't post the link.

Playing "in the zone"
by Graunke on Thu Jun 04, 2009 4:20 am
I absolutely love when I get "in the zone" so to speak....
It's just a shame it only happens when I'm jamming in my office and not with a group. Tonight, I was just jammin along to Book of Shadows, and doin my own thing, noodling over the top, and it was like.... Holy s#%t! I just did that, and then I did it again... I hope I can still do it tomorrow, but I'll prbably forget by then.
I've had a few shows where everything fell into place and my hands just kinda went on their own and proceeded to rock harder than the rest of me new how too.
Wish I could turn that on all the time........

Hey guys, I just found out about a tremelo could Parker and it can be set up in 3 ways. Grammy Award-winning blues legend Koko Taylor, 80, died on June 3, 2009 in her hometown of Chicago, IL, as a result of complications following her May 19 surgery to correct a gastrointestinal bleed. On May 7, 2009, the critically acclaimed Taylor, known worldwide as the “Queen of the Blues,” won her 29th Blues Music Award (for Traditional Female Blues Artist Of The Year), making her the recipient of more Blues Music Awards than any other artist. In 2004 she received the NEA National Heritage Fellowship Award, which is among the highest honors given to an American artist. Her most recent CD, 2007’s Old School, was nominated for a Grammy (eight of her nine Alligator albums were Grammy-nominated). She won a Grammy in 1984 for her guest appearance on the compilation album Blues Explosion on Atlantic.
Born Cora Walton on a sharecropper’s farm just outside Memphis, TN, on September 28, 1928, Koko, nicknamed for her love of chocolate, fell in love with music at an early age. Inspired by gospel music and WDIA blues disc jockeys B.B. King and Rufus Thomas, Taylor began belting the blues with her five brothers and sisters, accompanying themselves on their homemade instruments. In 1952, Taylor and her soon-to-be-husband, the late Robert “Pops” Taylor, traveled to Chicago with nothing but, in Koko’s words, “thirty-five cents and a box of Ritz Crackers.”
In Chicago, “Pops” worked for a packing company, and Koko cleaned houses. Together they frequented the city’s blues clubs nightly. Encouraged by her husband, Koko began to sit in with the city’s top blues bands, and soon she was in demand as a guest artist. One evening in 1962 Koko was approached by arranger/composer Willie Dixon. Overwhelmed by Koko’s performance, Dixon landed Koko a Chess Records recording contract, where he produced her several singles, two albums and penned her million-selling 1965 hit “Wang Dang Doodle,” which would become Taylor’s signature song.
After Chess Records was sold, Taylor found a home with the Chicago’s Alligator Records in 1975 and released the Grammy-nominated I Got What It Takes. She recorded eight more albums for Alligator between 1978 and 2007, received seven more Grammy nominations and made numerous guest appearances on various albums and tribute recordings. Koko appeared in the films Wild At Heart, Mercury Rising and Blues Brothers 2000. She performed on Late Night With David Letterman, Late Night With Conan O’Brien, CBS-TV’s This Morning, National Public Radio’s All Things Considered, CBS-TV’s Early Edition, and numerous regional television programs.
Over the course of her 40-plus-year career, Taylor received every award the blues world has to offer. On March 3, 1993, Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley honored Taylor with a “Legend Of The Year” Award and declared “Koko Taylor Day” throughout Chicago. In 1997, she was inducted into the Blues Foundation’s Hall of Fame. A year later, Chicago Magazine named her “Chicagoan Of The Year” and, in 1999, Taylor received the Blues Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2009 Taylor performed in Washington, D.C. at The Kennedy Center Honors honoring Morgan Freeman.
Koko Taylor was one of very few women who found success in the male-dominated blues world. She took her music from the tiny clubs of Chicago’s South Side to concert halls and major festivals all over the world. She shared stages with every major blues star, including Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, B.B. King, Junior Wells and Buddy Guy as well as rock icons Robert Plant and Jimmy Page.
Taylor’s final performance was on May 7, 2009 in Memphis at the Blues Music Awards, where she sang “Wang Dang Doodle” after receiving her award for Traditional Blues Female Artist Of The Year.
Survivors include Taylor’s husband Hays Harris, daughter Joyce Threatt, son-in-law Lee Threatt, grandchildren Lee, Jr. and Wendy, and three great-grandchildren.

Dean serial numbers to determine age?
Hey all,
I am trying to figure out how old this Dean RESC metal body resonator guitar is and....silly me, I thought I could find out via the serial number.
So I call the company yesterday and am told "Oh, they don't keep track of serial numbers..." from who ever answered the phone...
She transferred me to customer service and I had to leave a message... and have had no response.
So, does anyone know how to tell from the serial number how old a Dean guitar is?
And maybe a more poignant question... If Dean truly doesn't track their serial numbers and keep records on them...is there a point to putting a serial number on the guitar?
Thanks for reading...
Help me name this Custom Randall footswitch
Ok, My friend brent has commissioned a custom randall rg100-es (or rg80-es) Footswitch to be made by me. You know the drill, one button selects between channels and the other selects both channels.
What makes this pedal special, it the fact that there is a two loop true bypass looper built in!! So this is how it works; When your randall is on the dirty channel you can insert your furman pq, your mxr 6 band, your noise gate ect into loop 2. If the amps dirty it's with those items in the chain. Switch to clean, and it switches to loop 1, which in my rig would contain a chorus pedal. Switch to both, and get your swirly chorus clean mixed with Dimebag brutal distortion, all in a pedal the size of the Mxr 10 band eq!!
I am taking orders for these if anyone wants one, but more importantly, what the hell can I name this thing???
I call my randall footswitch the Fs-5j, and i call the looping section the "Tap Dance".
Someone give me the killer name to market this product with...

razorback 255 or vmnt?
by tlevin on Thu Jun 04, 2009 5:32 pm
I am about to purches soon a new awsome Dean guitar, and after many hard conclusions and researches I came to Razorback V255 Blades, and the VMNT angel of deth.
I'ts just to hard for me to pick one, I like a rounded neck and powerfull distorsion, and both of them contain these features.
Since I live in Israel, and there are few deans to try, especially these two, I need an opinion of all you experienced guys, and tell me what did you like the most?
The floyd rose is something less important, I just need to know about the sound and feeling.
P.S.- is the floyd rose worth the purches of the 255? or is it just "another feature"?
thanks for the helpers =D

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product?sku=620092
Did I miss something? At least it's for sale now, but man they have to fix that description.
I was just wondering. What do you do when you play guitar? Ya know, what you do that is most productuve and gets you learning more?! I think my routine is extremely flawed just because I don't ever branch out to anything new. I am doing this because I don't know what I could work on. Thanks guys! Here is mine:
Warm-up for about 5-10 minutes
Play a few easy solos to get going
Play some Yngwie to get really loose
Improv some rhythm for a bit
Try to improv lead but then get pissed so quit
Go back to playing some Yngwie, then try little Batio licks from GW
Improv a bit more rhythm
Then decide I am going no where fast and need to find something new. That is why I am here!
Another thing is, what techniques should I work on? Here is what I think I can do fairly ok:
Tap
String skip
alternate pick
Vibrato
Pinch Harmonics
Natural Harmonics
Tremelo pick
Hammer-on/pull-off
That is really all I know....That shocked me. Anyway, what should I start learning from that stuff, or better yet, where should I go from here? Anything to help me out with learning new stuff(songs, scales, etc.)? Sorry for the long post guys. Please try to answer all of my questions! Thanks for the help! You guys rock!

Location Reflected in Music?
Well, I went to a band jam/audition, & the music was kinda what I'd define as "modern" Southern Rock, so along the same vein as Black Stone Cherry, Shinedown & Alter Bridge. This got me thinking, how much does nationallity & location affect the sound of a band? We're all (me, the band & the guitarist who was jamming) from Stoke-on-Trent in the UK (birthplace of Lemmy), so not southern by any means, yet we sounded pretty good (considering we had to improvise alot). But generally (IMO), British music has either more of a gritty feel (e.g Black Sabbath, The Clash & Led Zep) a skaish feel (e.g Madness & again The Clash) or a large pop sentamentality (e.g The Beatles & Franz Ferdinand), yet allways being relativy happy feeling. This would be in oposition to Scandinavian music, wich in general I find to be more darkness embacing or just plain mental.
Anyway, I'd just like to here peoples opinions on whether or not a band/musicians location does affect the music they write & play.

An even more underrated guitarist..
by Vince on Fri Jun 05, 2009 1:36 am
Linde Lindstrom - HIM
Damn good guitarist, uses the wah alot like Kirk, but it's a big part of his sound, so it works well IMO. I wish I could work a wah pedal like him.
Nothing but cool riffs too. Considering the type of music and lyrics Valo composes, Linde does a good job of putting kick a ss riffs and solos over top and making it way better.
I think he sounds way cooler live than on the albums though because its different every time and he goes nuts.
These vids here are of Daniel Lioneye. That's is his side project with the singer (Valo) and bassist (Mige) from HIM They haven't played live as Daniel Lioneye since the album was released in 2002. They are also releasing a black metal album with a different drummer sometime this year or next year too. It's not for everybody I guess, but like I said, he can write a good riff and he throws down solo's just as good..
He sings like he's trying to sound like Elvis and Morrisson on the album, but that was the intention. On the live versions he sounds a bit different.
Here's some of the Daniel Lioneye stuff.

Some people will probably call him generic, but trust me, when he plays live, he sounds wicked and his playing really gets your attention. And he earns it too.
To me, he's pretty underrated no matter what anyone else says..
This probably belongs in the player's blog, but nobody ever goes there except for me and Ryan, so here we go.

and i am here on the forums and i need 2 pop into college tomorrow at like 10am to hand in some outstanding work, is it worth going to bed for 5 hours sleep? just to get up grumpy as hell? and then fall back asleep?
a few of you asked me about the cases that Rondo offers...i only have 3 rondo cases. two hardshell and one gigbag. i borrowed my friends gigbag(a PRS) coz i think its a pretty cool and solid gigbag, also it should provide some people with help in terms of comparison. as in, PRS cases can be found all over, rondo on the other hand, cant be found...
well, i'm just working on it right now. i'll be comparing 4 cases. two are gigbags, and two are hardshell cases. so far, the results would be based on these. if you want to add more to em, let me know:
material strenght(exterior)
material strength(interior like padding)
zippers, if applicable
latches/handles
weight
pocket space
versatility in terms of body shape
price
room for improvement (in my opinion)
is there anything else you guys would like to see? the results should be up by tonight.
cases in question:
PRS SE gray Strandard gig bag
Attitude Double Guitar Bag GAV-EG30 Black
Douglas EGC-200 LP Black
CNB EC-280/LP/OR Brown Shaped Case for Agile AL
How do you guys set your EQ before your amp... I have always loved using my mxr 6 band and setting it at a moderately heavy frown shape... A little bit nasally but not bad.
For those of you who also do a frown shape before the preamp... do you mind posting a pic of how heavy of a frown? Or describing it?

I still have to make the head-box, but sounds reeeaaaaally good!!!
Guess what?
'80s rulez!!!
Boy what a way to kick off the summer. They were simply ON FIRE. Everything sounded great and they had a real nice set. Into the Pit basically lived up to it's name . The opening bands were good too, Unearth and Lazarus AD. I really liked Lazarus and Unearth was alright. Overall great show
Anyone have a breakdown of US ghostbuilders shops by year?
by flah on Fri Jun 05, 2009 7:27 pm
Like what years were US Masters, Chafin, Hill, etc.? I've heard some not so positive things about US Masters. Some of you mentioned mine is a US Masters and I think it's the most beautiful guitar I've ever seen, Dean or otherwise.
Sorry if this has been posted before, I tried using the search.
With a move coming up in my future, I decided I needed a new practice amp. My DC-5 is amazing, but I have to get it to a volume where i'm sure my current neighbours hate me, late alone my new ones...
Enter... the Blackstar HT-5. I ordered it from Musician's Friend... it was a B-stock, same with the cabinet. The price couldn't be beat!
Packed very well, no scratches to the equipment. The cab box was beaten to s#%t though.
The head.
The cab.
Notice the little styrofoam feet... they sure got bumped up in transit, heh.
Here's a pic of the size of it compared to my DC-5:
And finally, it on its own after i've jammed it for a bit... and let me tell you, it's a really nice amp for the price!
Recommendation? BUY IT! GO! Seriously, these are amazing little amps, and will make my life a lot easier for transit and travel. I wonder if i'll be able to play it over a drummer.
Construction is amazing, the controls are fairly responsive... treble is less than responsive, but it already has a good top-end voicing anyways. the ISF feature is very cool. assuming some solid-state with the ISF for the distortion, as there's no way 1 12ax7 could make this much gain.
The Randall RH150/300 G3 and G3+ series.
by Spite on Fri Jun 05, 2009 8:26 pm
Are they really as bas as some people say?
The clips I've heard so far sounded pretty good to me.
And how much better is the G3+ from the original G3? Heard they had issues with cabinets, or something like that.
Im looking for a solidstate amp, and these Randalls seem to carry the tone I'm after. I live in Denmark, so it would be a hell of a hassle to import an older Randall and voltmod it, + the shipping fees give me nightmares.
Why Randall? Well, pretty much only decent solidstate amps available here.
Pros?
Cons?
Thanks for reading.
I wanna see some splittails!

I've been sorta on the fence about the splittails ever since the release. and i'm GAS'in again.
Anyone who has one, import or USA, idc. Post em up.
ESPECIALLY YOU CHRIS!(your orange splittail is sexual. lol )
I apologize if a similar thread has been made.
Thanks,

Placed an order today NDC
Godin Redline 1 in trans green. I played one in trans red this morning and it is amazing. It is on par build wise with the Ibby Prestige stuff but has a more comfortable neck. Should be a few weeks till it comes in.
It looks like this...
What prompted this was a vid I watched on how Godin builds their guitars. It was on "How It's Made" on discovery. I learned that they are all made in Quebec under strict QC controls. That and the wood is farmed locally to support the local logging business. The center of the body is Silver Leaf Maple and the wings are poplar. The neck is rock maple. Comes with an EMG 81. It's 24 jumbo frets on a rosewood board with a bolt on neck. The nut is a Graphtec Tusq. The bridge is bad ass. It's fixed but goes all the way through. There is a compete block. It has a ton of sustain. Comes with a super sturdy gig bag too. More to come when this one gets in. If you havn't seen one I would suggest checking it out. They have a 2 pup version in both EMG and Passive and floyded models too.
why are people so hateful of Korean Deans?
it seems everywhere i turn (with the exception of this forum) people just bash the s#%t out of them for no good reason. and it got me to thinking.
why are the imports so much cheaper anyway? the imports i have been looking at are all mahogony bodies , mahogony necks, rosewood fingerboard. and everything from the bridges to the tuning knobs seem to be the same quality stuff that goes on american made models.
am i missing something or is it a classic case of people just not knowing what they are talking about?
Well I'm kinda undecided between these two amps.
Line 6 Spider III or a Roland Cube 30x Combo.
My budget is around 300 and I'm looking for a good amp to practice on.
Any suggestions?

hey i have to do a research project/essay on rock n roll music and i cant decide how to do the outline.
it has to be 5 paragraphs.
can you guys help me with an outline?
thanks
Ok, I got my new bridge from Guitar Fetish. It is the black Wilkinson for imports. First off, it looks very cool and solid. The whammy bar slides into its spot instead of screwing it on. I thought that was interesting. It doesn't fall out as easy as one might think. In it, it sounds fairly good. Especially for the guitar it went on. I noticed when I put it on, when ever I used the whammy bar, it untuned the guitar. That of course, is due to the horrible tuners I have on that guitar. I have to get those changed as well as the neck. The bridge seems to have small parts(to me). The saddles seem a bit small as well as the springs but that may be just because it is better than the last one I had. So far, I am liking it a lot. It definately is a good investment if you are on a budget. Or even if you aren't on a budget!

This has most likely never been asked on the Dean forum before, but what the hell. Does anyone have a clue how to emulate a sitar sound on guitar? So far the only thing I can think of is the Disturbed guy's Digitech pedal (has a designated sitar mode), is there any other way to emulate a sitar sound, short of buying a sitar?

Schenker and MSG!
by dj420 on Sun Jun 07, 2009 6:22 pm
Last night Schenker graced the stage @ the Santa fe here in Las Vegas and the man brought the magic with him. He had all the hot licks, cool moves and style He's known for. His band were tight and complemented him well while letting him shine in the spotlight. If you ever get the chance to see him play JUST DO IT, He is a living legend. Vinnie Paul was in attendance but I couldn't get to him because the crowd around him was quite large and he dissapeared after the show, I was wanting to drink a black tooth grin with him, maybe next time. All told it was a great show with lots of Dean's!
how much would it cost to replace a fretboard?
so, im thinking about snatching up a sweet bass at a really low price. the only catch is that the fretboard is severely damaged and would need to be replaced. what kind of cost would i be looking at for a luthier to remove an old damaged rosewood fretboard and replace it with a maple one?
thanks.

Ok, I have had this thing since yesterday and read over it a few times. I am absolutely puzzled by a few things. Ok, how do you tell what chords are what? I don't understand the whole way they show it to you. Is there a really easy answer to this? And, Can you mix up the different modes they show to you? Like, If I wanted to mix up the Dorian mode of the F Major scale with the Locrian mode of the same scale, could I do it? Thanks guys!

Set-up info on Resonator CE
by PeteK on Mon Jun 08, 2009 12:21 pm
Hi guys,
(First post so point me to the right place if this ain't it!)
Santa was good to me this year and brought me a Dean Resonator CE model. After accompanying me on a couple of boat trips, the action has become a little vicious on the fingers and I'd like to check over the set-up. Trouble is, the guitar came with no guidance info on things like string clearances etc, in fact it came with no info at all. I'm new to resonators and so am a little nervous about starting to dismantle the thing without some sort of reference material!
So the question is, does anyone out there have such a thing as an "owners manual" or better a workshop manual to help get it sorted out?
(I've tried emailing Dean Guitars support - questions6768@deanguitars.com - but disappointingly go no response)
anyone one from the forum gonna be attending the show at the molson ampitheatre on july 9th!!! just found out my gf scored me tickets for fathers day so i'm @#$% pumped !! i heard they are gonna be playing thier set list from the brittish steel album exclusively gimme a heads up if any of ya's are gonna be there ....might see me there breakin the law!!

Why do awesome gear go out of production?
by Spite on Mon Jun 08, 2009 6:33 pm
Figures.
Stuff like the Furman PQs, just to give a quick example.
If theres a good market for it, why dont companies reissue some of them? Also, when some companies do reissue or "revamp", why are the new versions crappier than the originals? (WH4 comes into mind)
Might be completly wrong, but IMO the older gear are often more desireable than newer stuff.
DOA UNITE! I need help for school!
Anybody have any good online guitar resources? I need some references dealing with the differences between steel and nylon strings and why one would be better to start with as apposed to the other.
I've googled my ass off and haven't found anything so I need some help!
Also it can't be anything wikipedia. Not a reputable source of information.
Tricky guitar salesman antics
by nytan on Mon Jun 08, 2009 6:55 pm
I went to a few guitar shops to do some hunting yesterday and I've decided most salesmen have no souls.
So I've decided to document the typical battle tactics of major chain store guitar salesmen.
Guitar Salesman: Nice chops man.
Customer: Thanks.
GS: Did you know that guitar's on sale?
C: Really...
GS: Yeah! We're doing this huge promotion right now. Nobody beats our prices!
C: Darnit...I was hoping to go to a few stores and check out guitars but I guess there's no point now...since you'll inadvertently trounce everyone.
GS: Pretty much. So are you thinking of taking this guitar home with you today?
C: Well...there's just so many to choose from. I mean a guitar is an extension of your voice. I don't think sitting down on a stool in front of a crappy amp that's been run over by hundreds of customers next to that metalhead kid who does nothing but play scales with my volume turned on 2 because your co-worker told me to turn it down could really do it justice right?
GS: [system overload] Er...well...I...guess...I guess not. Is there anything else you'd be interested in?
C: Actually I came here looking for a Dean Mahogany ML.
GS: [inner monologue - Ah...he wants a Dean or a Mahogany guitar or an ML? (I don't know what that is so I'd better act cool and ask him what that is)] Ah...wise choice! An ML, that's like the V right?
C: ...no it's more like a random star or an explorer shape with a cutout.
GS: Right right....ok...well lemme check if we have one.
-10 min. later-
GS: Hey Tom?
C: John...
GS: John, well we don't have that model per se but we have a bunch of Deans here.
C: Well I was really looking for that particular guitar.
GS: Of course, but we have some great mahogany bodied guitars here too. They sound great. And while you're at it, here are some Gibson Explorers too. They're just like a Dean ML.
C: <Flips him one and leaves>

New Strap Day.
Yea, pretty corny.
For those of us who aren't familiar with Jodi Head, she is a guitar strap maker out of NY. I have a few of her straps and I love them. Anyway, I was in need of a new strap for my CFH and I got onto to her website and found a pic of Dimebag using one of her straps. What could be better than that? So I ordered the black version (Dime's was brown according to the site) about a week ago and it showed up today.
The strap is black with 3 rows of flat nickel studs. Its built to last and looks perfect on the guitar. The back of all her straps that I own are a rough unfinished leather (not in a bad way) and take care of any neck dive problems a geet may have which is important to me. I have greater freedom of movement and ease of play when my geet stays put. Razorback owners....
Anyway, I thought I would share. I have pics but won't be able to post them until I get my computer back.
Calling All Photoshop Pros
by Jamio on Mon Jun 08, 2009 7:27 pm
Well I am working on a custom idea for myself, however my PC won't run Photoshop anymore. Here is my idea:
Name - RazorTail
Body Design - Splittail Body with a Razorback V base
Body - Maple Body
Headstock - Razorback Headstock (Non-DIME on Headstock)
Strings - 6 String
Hardware - Gold Hardware
Tremelo - Floyd Rose (Gold)
Frets - 22 Frets with no fret dots
Finish - Can you please make me 3 different finishs (is possible).
#1 - White Body with Gold Hardware and a Gold Outlining around the body/headstock
#2 - Black Body with Gold Hardware and a Gold Outlining Around the Body/Headstock
#3 - Waterfall Bubinga top and headstock (neckthru design with the middle piece being purple heart).
If you can not get the third finish it is alright (as I just wanted to see how it would look). I am seriously considering either finish #1 or #2 tho (unless you guys have anything to add that may make it look better)
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I greatly appreciate you taking the time to due so.

these guys were one of the most boring bands I've ever seen live. they all just stand there in one place like they'd rather be at home watching csi or something and the singer talks for like 5 to 10 minutes in between ever song. One time it was so long that people in the crowd started yelling and heckling. and now he thinks he is the same caliber as the crue. Whigger please. The crue are legends of the 80s. GS are eh at best. At least they were good with the other drummer. but now they act like everyone else who hates going to work.

Okay my girlfriend and I are starting a side project of ours. Its gonna be stuff like Nightwish... Epica... Within Temptation
Yea i know some of you are laughing right now. But I can respect a good female vocalist any day. Why judge music by the s.e.x of the band members? If anything i respect them more. To make a song sound heavy with a higher voice that isnt screaming, grunting etc is pretty much a challenge of its own.
Listen to the Howling by within temptation. Pretty heavy for a girl singer not screaming.
Back on track, I've got no pa type gear on my own as of now. Thats why I need your guys help.
Im thinking im gonna go Schecter ---> Pod X3 Live ---> Power Amp --> 4x12 loaded with 2 Full Range Pa Speakers.
Now.. i got to thinking how can i save money... If I got a 2 channel power amp. Could I run her mic into one channel and my Guitar into the other... both into my 4x12 cabinet?
(Cheap, and easy to move... my compact PA alternative)
Do i need a 2 channel power amp to do that? I'm a power amp noob.
This would be a very basic setup for the two of us. I will be using my own pre-recorded drum and bass backing tracks for all the songs we do. Its not gonna be anything big... some smaller gigs where we can just have fun. Hopefully some paying gigs though.
Hey buckethead plays without a band and no one cares.... Why cant I?
Last year I watched a band plug an old gameboy into their pa and play a song based around the Legend of Zelda game music. That creative!!!
Yo dudes, im about to order a new amp from these guys.
Has anyone here ever ordered from them before, if so, how was it?
Cheers
Learned Snowblind!
by Dale on Tue Jun 09, 2009 12:37 pm
Well, I learned it last night but was too lazy to post a thread on it...
But yeah, I'm not much one to learn other songs much anymore but I've been on a Vol. 4 kick lately.
I got it pretty much nailed except the second solo.... My high E (or C# in this case ) snapped before I could... And it was right when all the music stores close. The ironic part, about 45 minutes beforehand I was actually just getting back from L&M... I thought "Hmm maybe I should buy some strings while I'm here... Naaah!"
We always miss life's little foreshadows.
But yeah, that's my little useless post! I'll try to get a video up tonight if I feel like it!
I can't decided which one I like better. Opinions needed.
There are a couple ML 79 F for sale in the trading post and I'm going in circles trying to decide which one to go for
the first is
http://www.deanguitars.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=65542&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=
which just looks sexy, has the BL pup and saggy crotch, but no FR , which I want
the other is
http://www.deanguitars.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=64790&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=
which has a LFR, and im thinking if i want to replace it with an OFR the body is already routed for it, and buying a BL pup is fairly cheap. but no saggy crotch on this one.
and im not sure why but the first looks like it has brighter binding and the thing around the pups is whiter. is the color difference any indication when it was made?
they are about the same price and come with hard cases.
what do i dooooooooo!
seriously, what are your opinions on these two axes?
Does Vai have any Acoustic stuff? I have heard alot of his Electric stuff, I have never been sure if he has acoustic.
Favorite Dynamic Mics onstage/Recording
Well ive always had great luck with Shure mics... the sm57 and 58 are both great workhorses and very durable. Can be used for vocals, drums guitar... very versatile.
What are you guys using.
Any Affordable mics that sound good? Im in the mood to try out some different mics in the near future.
NAD!!!!! Peavey Vypyr Tube 60
Woooo! Finally, I get to make a topic with nad in it. Also, the amp is pretty sweet. Pics and sound clips are on the way. I'm still playing with it and have to find my cable to go from my camera to my computer.
anyone know what make/model bridge this is? i believe it's from the early nineties or maybe 80's.

Repairing Dings
by FearCage on Tue Jun 09, 2009 11:17 pm
Hello everyone,
I was wondering if anyone here knows a good way to get rid of dings in ones guitar. My Soltero is loved, so obviously, it's got a couple of bumps and dings and I'm kind of anal when it comes to the condition of my guitars.
You know where this is going, I'm sure...

Happy B-Day sir!
okay, there is a talk about the new soltero neck joint...blah blah blah
how about the new soltero headstock.
like this old one:
VS the new one:
so i'm wondering if the new headstock is found on every soltero coming from 2009 and onwards, or just on a select few.
and what gives? i like the older headstock better...
same goes for the older logo. why did they change that?
Shure X2u?
by AhsanU on Wed Jun 10, 2009 12:09 am
Hey guys.
I recently got a set of stuff for recording. I purchased a used Shure SM57 and a Shure X2u XLR to USB converter.
I've got a problem though. I just CAN'T get good recording quality. I don't know what it is but I just can't. I've tried a few programs to record with (Audacity, Reaper) but it doesn't change.
I'm thinking either faulty microphone (I did get it off eBay) or maybe the X2u just doesn't deliver the best audio quality.
Should I have the microphone checked out? Do you guys have any tips as to how to mic up an amplifier? I've gone through numberous websites and youtube videos. They haven't helped too much. I'm running a Bugera 6262 with a Bugera 4 speaker cabinet.
Thanks for any input guys.
Amp for balls?
by Vilches3 on Wed Jun 10, 2009 12:57 am
Okay, I was just wondering what a good amp would be to a achieve as much balls as Dimes tone in Moscow 1991 or in Seoul Korea 2001..those videos blow my mind (Primal concrete sledge for both places and years)
I DONT want to sound like Dimebag, I just want as much "push", Tightness, Crunch and heavy............in other words, I want something with enough balls to start a schoolbus fire, but with a good enough clean channell lol.
I was looking at.......
Engl
Madison
VHT
Krank
(dont like rectifiers and peavey 5150's)
please dont start telling me to buy your amp either, I'm broke and it aint no joke
just wanna know where to look
Anyone know where I cna find a good tab for Rat In A Cage by Smashing pumpkins? I cant find one anywhere UG's are all wrong.
Peavey Valveking 212 vs. Mesa Boogie .50 caliber +
I'll start with the history of the situation. I had a crate gx212 and a POD 2.0 with floorboard, that I never used and didn't really care for. I posted them on craigslist for $500 and hoped for the best. Now, I know $500 was really pushing it, but I wanted to fund a tube amp, so it was worth a shot. After about 6 weeks of nothing but scammers, I almost gave up. That's when I got an email from a guy offering me his Peavey VK212 for my stuff strait up. I went and tried it out, he tried mine, we were both happy!
The problem is, I spend about 80% of my time playing in my bedroom. This amp is not a practice amp. It sounds like crap at the volumes I have to keep it in my house. Don't get me wrong, this amp sounds AWESOME when you turn it up, so I am not saying it is a bad amp. Also, I have my little Marshall that has been heavily modded and sounds sweet. So, I don't have a big problem. The fact that it just sits there does bother me a little. So, I started thinking about selling it to get a Vox ac15 or a blues jr. Both smaller, and all tube. I have played both and liked both, and I can get the tone I want in my bedroom.
Before I could even list it for sale, I got approached by a guy with a Mesa Boogie .50 caliber+ 1x12 combo. He wants to trade strait up. His is from the late 80's and looks really good. He also claims that it just got a real good work up from a notable local tube amp tech(cleaning, re-tube, biasing, what not). It sounds great, different, but great.
So, my question is, would this be a good trade? Are they similar enough in value to make this not "too good to be true?" I have always wanted a mesa, but could and still can't afford one. Will a 20+ year old amp be more trouble than it is worth?
I ask this question here, because there is always a wealth of knowledge to the point that I don't post often, because I can always find my answer by searching.
Sorry for the long winded post, and thanks in advance!

I doubt most of you will be interested, but I finally got this song down. the guitar part anyway, I'm not even gonna try to memorize the wohle story.
This is the first song i've really been excited about learning in years because i actually had to work at it. most songs i can just find some tab for and have down in less than an hour, minus some solos. most of the time when i learn a song all i have to do is memorize the notes, this one i actually had to work on technique and really LEARN something
I dont see how Arlo can play this and sing/talk at the same time. this is really a monster to get accurate with. but i've seen jerry reed do the same thing. Guys who can really fingerpick are amazing.
why does everyone hate slipknot?
I can see why they might not like the earlier stuff( I dont) like the nu metal/rap s#%t.
but the songs like before i forget is cool, duality, pychosocial. to me thats metal. but the people (like for instence) my friend listens to slayer, testament, pantera, megadeth ,but he says slipknot isn't real metal along with other people. I consider it real metal( i listen to the bands stated above too). also is it because they get somewhat melodic? please fill me in
Ok, so im not much into gibson but i found this laying around at a sale and it plays really nice. as you can see it had some stickers on it but the paint still looks ok. looks to be about a 1992 by the number. It has 24 frets and 3/4 body size of a normal exlorer. floyd rose says made in germany by schaller. Any one know what model it is or have any info on it???

I can't seem to afford another Czech Premium EVO so this is as close as I can get. Traded a 94 MIM Strat stright up for it. Should be here tomorrow, I'm psyched! Bigass frets on an ebony board, coil taps, gorgeous body. Look familiar?
i'm just getting more and more into him. i kept listening to a select few songs by em for the last few years. just looking for other stuff.
i'm familiar with scarified, technical difficulties, the entire 'get out of my yard' album and thats about it.
i'm more into instrumentals, so what would you guys recommend by the two?
Can some of you help me out with what causes this unbelieable feed back I've been getting? We have a good size rehearsal room. I play a VHT Pittbull UL with matching cab, USA Dean Cadillac, a couple of pedals. Thanks

do you prefer bolt on, set in neck or neck through, and why?
untill recently i thought these different necks were indicators of quality on a guitar. seems just one more thing to throw on the pile of things im wrong about when it comes to guitars.
so whats your preference and why?
so far i hear set in necks get better sustain? is this true? would a neck through then get even better sustain?
I'm glad other people have stupider ideas than me.

Dont know if this has been discussed before but here goes..
THIS GOTTA BE THE UGLIEST frippin GUITAR I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!
Help ID this vintage Stealth (NDC)
My friend owned a guitar like this in 1990, and sold it. He just found this one for sale. It has a very unique paint job, and we want to know if it is the exact same guitar, or if BCR made a bunch of these with this same paint job.
I find it difficult to believe that this is anything but a hand painted guitar. We have photos of him playing this guitar in 1990, and the paint job is an exact match. We are wondering if anyone can identify what exactly it is... we know it is a BC Rich Stealth from around 1985. The big question is whether or not it is a one-off, or if BC Rich made a bunch of these with the exact same paint job somehow, with silk screening or something. The technology was not that sophisticated in 1985.
This guitar has a really fat slab body, a bolt on neck, and is really heavy. The edges of the body are not rounded at all, very square, block-like, slab body. It has sustain for days. Thanks in advance for the help.
Why do we own more than one guitar?.............
I have several reasons for owning more than one but the main reason is each does different things. But that is not the reason for my question. Seems everytime I mention aquiring a new axe the misses gets all bent out of shape like I was taking the very Food from her mouth. It gets old. I currently own 2 guitars a BC Rich Warbeast and a Carvin Bolt Plus.I have a Dean MLX in restoration procedures and I have about three projects in Colorado awaiting paint so I can put them together.
Anyway, after the recent conflict over aquiring another USA made Carvin, (Not Right now but in the future), I'm seriously thinking about just selling out and giving up guitar period. Just tired of getting beat up everytime I find a deal on a guitar I'd like to have. Not even getting beat up over buying one but even just thinking about buying it. Beginning to think that it's just not worth the headache.
She even told me that I would not be satified If I had 50 guitars I'd still want another one.
I made a mistake a while back and sold all but one guitar to help catch up bills. The bills are still behind but I'm out 7 USA Made guitars. I WILL NEVER SELL MY STUFF AGAIN TO COVER BILLS. (If I stay playing.) I learned the hard way.
Just had to Vent.

any suggestions. i'm sure its not my technic. ive played many guitars at guitar center and i get good harmonics out of them.
I know thiis may or may not be the place but does anyone know if Jackson would do a custom shop 7 string rhoads?
Anyone else like these guys? They're probably one of the newer bands I'm listening to the most right now, along with Alter Bridge, Shinedown, Electric Wizard, Maylene & the Sons of Disaster & Viking Skull.
I do prefer the stuff from the first album though, not sure why, but I just dug it more

Question about Multi Effects Pedals..
A month or two ago I picked up a Vox Tonelab LE, and the sound is perfect for me. the only problem is that when you switch between the channels, it takes longer to switch than if I just run my old Metal Zone with my amp. Are all Multi Effects like this? Is it worth it to just get the separate pedals I need? (In my band we do a lot of immediate switching from distorted to clean and all, so it's pretty important that I can switch channels as fast as possible. Thanks to anyone that can help.
Did Dean ever put out an ML with a jackson style HS?
i was watching my 3 Vulgar video DVD's and noticed in both the Psycho Holiday video(from the same venue as the first CFH vid), and Primal Concrete Sledge in moscow, Dime's guitars looked exactly like a ML with a jackson HS.
anybody know what the deal with that is?
Now that I'm sure everybody saw it at sometime over the weekend on VH1 and VH1 Classic, I never gave credit to Nicko McBrain for for being such a kick arse drummer. He frackin' owns, and what is he close to his mid 50's? Maybe not that old. Lars could learn a thing or two from that movie. Nicko'snare sounds better than the last 5 studio albums from Metallica.
Size of MXR Flanger and MXR Stereo Chorus
I'm going to start making a pedal board and these are the only pedals I'm going to get and don't have yet. Are they the same size as the MXR 10-Band EQ?
Question about pedals

1. I heard that Dunlop 535Q and the Dime one are same but dime one has just camo covers. Is this true?
2. Im in the US atm but live in Europe, so if I buy either one, will it work without any problems in EU?
thanks
I know there are others of you out there, I'm just wondering, are there alot of us that have about 5 or so different effects set ups in there pedal boards? Mine are like this:
My Tone: Mild O/D & Chorus
Doom Tone: Heavy Fuzz & Phaser
Solo Tone: Mild O/D, Flanger, Delay & Wah
"Clean" Tone: Delay
Funk Tone: Elveloper Filter & Wah

Who was it that was selling that blacked out white Z with EMGs on the trading post and was it sold already? I have a friend who might be interested in buying it depending on what the price is. I searched with the search button but could not find it.

Sold my 4x12 yesterday and hopefully the engl will be on its way out soon enough, with that said i want to take the money i get from that and invest it in an awesome combo. price range is around 1300. i play mostly LOG type stuff, but do stray into stuff like sublime and slightly stoopid. thanks in advance
I'm not going to bother with the promote your band section...
NEWS TIME!!!!
Go check out the new tracks posted if you haven't already...
1. We submitted some songs to Eulogy Records recently. A good friend of mine basically handed the owner of the label a copy of our songs as they are good friends. The label owner loved the songs and the production. BUT because we don't have much of a fan base, or a small tour under our belts he's not willing to pick us up right now. Apparently 2 years ago, he would've snapped us up in a minute..
So basically, we were told that MUSICALLY we have it. We just need to do some more leg work.
2. The album is done, mixed, mastered, done. I just uploaded it to TuneCore today, and it should be live on iTunes, AmazonMP3, Rhapsody etc. by the end of July. YAY! Not sure when we'll have physical copies, but digital by August!
3. We have a ReverbNation page now, so if you have one of those go and look us up http://www.reverbnation.com/fallofolympus
4. PLEASE help spread the word by posting a bulletin on your myspace, telling your friends, smoke signals, whatever. Visit our page, check out the songs, do whatever.
Thank you friends. You may go about your day.
2 guitar repair/building sort of questions.
by Dooom on Fri Jun 12, 2009 3:20 am
1. my BC Rich Jr V has this style of output jack
The 2 screws that keep it attached to the body have somehow become too small for the wholes that were factory drilled into the guitar, making the jackplate come out when I remove the cable from the guitar. The two solutions I could think of are either, putting a small amount of glue in the screw holes, or using larger screws. Which do you guys recommend?
2. A friend of mine gave me a beat-up ibanez GIO like this one
I believe it is discontinued because I was not able to find out much information on it on google and it is not listed on Ibanez's website. Would this guitar be worth refurbishing? I was thinking of using guitarfetish hardware and stuff like that so the overall cost would be rather low.
Thanks guys!
Hey guyz, i ve ordered my cemetary razorback, and i want to know what kind of magnets it has, cause there aren t any details for em. Are they equivalent with 81-85 emg s or something less good?

So, I finally got everything delivered.
Blurry phone pictures incoming!
Its bigger than the VK.
Furthermore I bought a Boss SD-1 and a Boss AB-2 for amp switching.
Floor setup:
The Whammy is there for chorus. (Detune setting) Eventhough its set for +2 Octaves.
The whole thing:
The VK cab is temporary, untill I can purchase a better one, or untill I get to replace the speakers in it.
Sorry for the blurry phone pictures, but that is all I have at the moment.

Downloaded it from Amazon last night and have given it one listen.
It's good. I'll reserve an overall judgement until I've spun it through a bunch more times.
The first impression is that Chad Smith and Michael Anthony mesh very well as a rhythm section.
Anyone else have a view on it?

I know this is years late, but I finally got myself a copy and I must say I'm loving this a bit more than BLS stuff...
I've always liked Zakk's playing but BLS just seems to kind of repeat itself a bit...
You can also hear Zakk's vocal chops a lot better than on most BLS albums...
Highly recommend it for those of you who are into southern rock and heavier stuff...
That is all...

New Jackson imports....kinda screwed up 'NOW WITH IRL PICS'

IRL PICS SIDE 2
Can you guys educate me on these? Quality, Playability, all the good stuff. And maybe some pron if possible.
I need ideas for fixing this poor guitar
So I got me a BC Rich Warlock Deluxe from Ebay, I got a good deal because the volume knob was pushed through the control cavity and the other knobs made a big dent/crack around the rest of the control cavity. The rest of the guitar is new except for the area around the knobs.
I'm really kinda digging this guitar and I think it's worth fixing. Here are some ideas so far:
1. Glue new wood into the cavity, bondo the hell out of it, have the top repainted.
2. Make up some sort of plate to screw on over the top of the cracks either out of black plastic or maybe diamond plate.
3. have a plate made up that covers the whole top of the guitar.
What do you guys think? I'm open to any other ideas.
Got to play a Mark V today
Spent about 30 minutes playing a Mark V head through a recto 4x12 with a Telecaster and a Gibson Explorer today. Didn't really have enough time to tweak it too much. There are so many features, knobs, switches that it would take weeks to mess around with. All in all, it is a good amp. R1 was a big let down. It always had some grit to it. R2 was good, much more usable than my Mark IV. R3 was a tricky one. There are a a million ways to tweak it. The Mark IIC+ mode gave a lot of feedback on the 90 watt setting. A little clearer than the Mark IV, but not as ballsy and raw, at least what I got out of it. First impression is that I would rather have my Mark IV with the MXR 10 band. The MXR really opens it up for me and is a must have. They had also just gotten a 60 watt Mark IIC+ in on trade, and the Mark V IIC+ mode was about an 85% for tone. The character just wasn't there in the V. One really cool feature is that you can set the GEQ and store it for each channel as a preset, something I really wish the Mark IV could do.
On another note, I picked up a duet of Mesa EL34's for my Mark IV. It had all 6L6's and I wanted to put my simulclass to good use. They really rounded out the sound and I'm happy with them. The quad of 6L6's has a really raw and punchy sound which was great, but with the EL34's in the outer sockets, I get a smoother tone. Especially the low end which now isn't so flubby. A fun day at the music store. I'll head back tomorrow to play with the Mark V again if it's still there. They had just gotten it in today, and when they got the combo version in a couple weeks ago, it hadn't even hit the floor before it was sold.
so ive been looking for a head and cab i either want a Randall T2hh Gus G signature or a peavey 6505+ which one would you guys get
I guess GC must et a lot of stolen gear as trades...
Stopped by the local GC, as I always do on Fridays while my son is at his guitar lesson. In the back of the store they have a wall of used guitars. It's actually in the hallway that leads to the rest rooms
Anyway, I spied the Carvin logo and found a nice DC127 for $399. It shows some play wear, but on the other hand, it just felt awesome in my hands. It has a lot of fret jam to clean out, and could use a good detailing, but for the price (which includes the original hardshell case),I couldn't let it slip by.
So since they're having their moonlight madness thing going on, I asked one of the guys exactly how mad they're willing to go on this price. It's already a killer deal IMO, but they went ahead and knocked another 10% off. Sweet!
So as we're talking about the guy who had traded it in (traded in 5 fiddles on a PRS, but almost didn't let the Carvin go), he informs me that I can put the guitar on layaway, but I can't take possession for 3 weeks. WTF? Seems like they are required to hold trade-ins for 3 weeks as a "cooling off" period. They used to keep the gear in the back, but a lot of it ended up getting trashed by careless folks, so now they hang it and have an "available" date on it.
So now I have to wait until July 6 to bring the thing at home and get it cleaned up. It's the usual neck-through, mahogany neck and body, awesome ebony fretboard, two c22 humbuckers, and far too many mini switches. I'll do the pron thing once I gain possession. I should probably post some pron of that '82 baby Z I picked up at DOA too.
Vendetta neck
by oaksong on Sat Jun 13, 2009 5:21 am
I played a vendetta recently (3 I think, with razorwire), and I really liked the neck.
Do solteros have a similar neck profile?
Also, have they changed the shape of the neck between the 3 and 4, or when they switched from razorwire inlays to the eyes?
i was wondering if anyone had any pics of a pro series caddy, i have had bouts of caddy gas since i started frequenting this forum a while back and, having recently gotten an htpro i am more or less in love with them. anyways show me some pro series caddy pron if ya got it. Much appreciated
So get this BS i have been waiting for new strings to come in for about a week and they finallly get in and i get the guitar (which has a Floyd btw) all set up i plug in and my amp starts cracking in and out so i check the cable and the wires inside have been broken off. i cant seem to figure out how it brokei had it wrapped up on top of my amp for a good week. now i have to wait on the new cable to come in. I hate being in foriegn countries on deployment
Pickup Routing on Razorback ??
Well, I've had my Razorback for a few months now, and have only recently noticed something quite odd. The bridge pickup (Dimebucker) seems to be routed slightly to the left of where it should be
The floyd and the neck pickup are both definitely in the right place and in line, so it must be the bridge pup.
I hope its nothing, or it in fact is routed correctly, but could somebody please clarify this for me?
Cheers

Tonights Concert and Camping

Goin to a Country fest. Had to work today, so missed lastnight's festivities. I'm glad to miss the abomination known as Big and Rich. I am looking forward to tonight.
Tonight is Neal McCoy, something called Billy Currington, and then Brooks and Dunn.
Brooks and Dunn have been aroud for like a hundred years, and you don't stick around that long unless your'e good, so I'm looking forward to that show. Also looking forward to lots of beer and talking smart. I've found my biggest Belt Buckle, A goofy hat, some boots, and I'm going to learn how to chew tobbaco today before I go.

I wonder can you tune a 12 string to be in harmony, like if I played the opening to Hollow by pantera?
Strings tension ...
by HugoLC on Sat Jun 13, 2009 4:31 pm
Ok I need to change the strings on one of my Dean who has a Floyd and the tension on this guitar is really intense , it's tune in Drop D and and the gauge is 0.011 - 0.050 I think I would like to try the Ernie Ball 11-54 but the tension will be more intense I tought so how do I kinda ''loose'' the tension , if I loose the spring behind do the tension will be lower ?
PS sorry for english mistake , when it comes to something like this it's hard for me stupid french canadian ahha
For those interested in my Demo CD...
Not entirely sure if this is the right spot to post it, if it isn't, mods feel free to move it to whatever section is appropriate.
Anyways, my CD's nearing completion at the moment, album art's coming along quickly and should be done in a few weeks and I'm just putting the final touches to the title track.
I just want to get a rough idea of how many copies to punch out, so if anyone here's interested you can slam your name down like you would in a limited run thread, only it isn't limited to 24 spaces and you don't get extra props for owning the prototype
If you put down your name you I'll PM each of you individually to sort out pricing and addresses etc, although I'll leave that for a while cos it's not completely finished yet.
Thanks for your interest,
- Ryan

My guitars are getting all moldy/rusty!! :(
Ack!
My USA Michael Schenker V's "V" string retainer plate thingy is corroded. A little corrosion (rust?), on the tune-o-matic, and even on the tuners!
I can't seem to polish the corrosion off -- though I haven't tried any chemicals.
What do I do? Try and order a new V thingy from Dean?
Do I need to get a de-humidifier for my guitar room?
I feel like my guitars are falling apart, and it's FREAKING ME OUT!!
Any tips you'all have for proper guitar storage would greatly appreciated. Mine are currently stored in my studio, which is downstairs, underground on 3 sides. I guess it's just to moist in there? I live in Washington state, BTW, home of grey skies.
Is there going to be a USA-made Deceiver?
I seem to remember seeing some pics of r Deceiver bodies in the Dean wood shop. Don't know if they were prototypes that were then sent overseas for production, or what.
Anybody know?

Quick preamp tube question.
by Spite on Sat Jun 13, 2009 8:41 pm
What is the main difference for 12at7 tubes and 12ax7 tubes?
Can I replace a 12at7 tube with a 12ax7 tube without problems?
When it comes to tubes, I'm pretty much clueless.
Has anyone had experiance with these guys? They seem to make some pretty cool pedals, I'm thinkin about replacing my Big Muff with an Attack Goat. I would put up a link, but the mods might have a problem with that, so just google for them.
anyone ever use them? how do they sound? I was thinking of getting the Nick Catanese one.
Yep, in here, bored, with a bunch of dudes who aren't talking. It makes me sad.
Updated my dean day (with Pron)
Today I updated my Dean Dime-O-Flame. The neck pickup that came with the guitar isn't very good and the bridge pickups is way to treble for my taste... I also removed one of the volume knobs, since I found it was more easy to have just one knob to controll both pickups, and this way I hadn't to drill a new hole in the guitar.
So, I installed EMG 81 + 85 + EMG PA2 (All the wires and the pickups were brand new). My sound improved a lot! I have a lot more definition, more punch... I dont know how to describe it! I am going to try to do the 18Volt mod to see if I get a even better sound out of the guitar.
The next step is to change the floyd, a schaller or a original floyd rose, but I don't know which one...
Pron:
Anyone here know anything about the mahogany wood the bodys made of ?I'm assuming it's better then basswood.Anyone here got one?
Ok, I am working on a song for the band and I have a bit of a problem. I don't know how to structure the song. What I mean is, how you place the chorus' and verses and whatever you may have. (I.E. chorus, verse 1, chorus, verse 2, solo, chorus, outro) How would you guys do this? Is what I put up good? Thanks guys!

New Switcher Pedal from www.dropd.net and Rig Shots!
I bought one of Jeremy's (www.dropd.net) "True A/B" boxes and I'm impressed. It does everything it's supposed to do and he let me pick a few options! Instead of doing a two-way LED I chose to use an orange LED for dirty and a ultra-violet (light purple pretty much) one for the clean. The orange channel also has stereo outs. I asked him to do make it on like Tuesday I think and he was ready by Friday. Excellent. On with the pron:

Important gear question!!!
What is the single most important piece of gear I can buy for under around $300??? I have an amp, tuner, guitars, and all the necessities but what is absolutely useful and highly advised to get???
Power Tube Saturation and... Metal?!?
So what do you guys think. Is there really any need for power tube saturation in Metal. Im loving Dave mustaines tone on the new megadeth album, he's using his marshall. I cant tell if he's getting power tube saturation though. This is coming from a guy who used to hate mustaine's tone time after time. Now it's one of my favorite.
I dont think your gonna be getting your Triple Rec's into power tube saturation any time soon... Those are loud!!! I know alot of you guys like those amps for metal.
Shopping
by tommygd on Mon Jun 15, 2009 9:49 am
I was in London this last weekend for a quick look around the music show at the ExCel (what a load of carp). As i was back in the in the big city having lived in the middle of nowhere for the last 9 years i though i would check out Denmark Street. When i lived in London that was the place for guitar stuff.
I found:
1x s/h white caddie
1x s/h bolt on v (seriously seriously overpriced)
1x time capsule ML
1x 'classic v' with BFH (seriously seriously nice)
1x bolt on ML of some description.
And that is it Dean wise. 6 - 7 guitar shops and 5 deans in total? That is a pretty poor show for my capital city. My girlfriend pointed out that i have more than twice the number of deans in my little house than there is in the centre of london. I realise there are many online places to get Dean guitars, and a few great shops around the country that stock them (im thinking Dolphin Music here btw). But how the hell are people gonna catch the Dean bug if they cant even find them in central london!
Have i missed something? Is there a Dean-laden shop somewhere in central london?
Im guessing the story is very different in the states, and when you travel to a big city u can get your hands on a dean or two!?
Maple Caps... yay? nay? eh...?
I think I like the sound of all-mahogany guitars much more than guitars with a maple cap. My Soltero just sounds like there's an extra dimension that the hardtail can't capture. The hardtail still has an amazing sound, but it's like 90% of the Soltero... the last 10% just goes so much farther to my ears. None of it would be heard live, or maybe even after some post-recording production... but I swear to God I can hear it.
Does anyone else agree? I've never played a Soltero with a thick maple cap to compare properly... maybe it's the thickness of the guitar, or the sound chambers that may or may not exist... or the fact it's 10.5lbs of fu ckin' heavy ass bone crushing mahogany...
Need Some Help & Opinions!
by Greg... on Mon Jun 15, 2009 2:21 pm
Right, guys, I'm looking for your help/opinions.
For my 16th (in a few weeks) my parents want to get me 'something really cool' instead giving me money/clothes, etc... So I've been playing with the idea of getting a small home recording setup. I will have around £200. I wanna get something I can program drums with (I loved the demo of Acoustica Beatcraft I tried) and something with an interface to record guitar with (preferably with various effects/amp models).
Thanks for your help in advance...
What's your favorite gear?
I'm sure all of you guys have a gear (guitar/bass/whatever else) that you like better than the rest. So which one's your favorite?
Mine's definitely my newest acquisition, 1980 Greco EG900. It makes my Dean ML and Icon feel like a toy. Everything about it is better than my other guitars.
I'm gonna try my hand at upgrading my squier strat this summer. Does anyone have recomendations for a new neck? I love the feel of Jackson and ESP necks, so anything similar to that would be great.
Need suggestions for Strap..........
I need something comfortable that won't slip around on my shoulder. Any recommendations?

Guitarfetish GFS Crunchy rail review
Some time ago I brought a Dean ML XM B-stock For $85.00 .
It was ok for a cheap guitar put the pups sucked.
So I got a set of GFS Rails. These are very good for the money.
About $75.00 for the set.
The web site calls them high output.Well not quite but good .
The bridge pup has great highs and mids easy to get a Santana sounding lead out of it.Good distortion and it's easy to get the
ZZ Top type harmonics .
The neck pup has a much deeper tone great for rock rhythms and southern rock really sounds nice and fat.
Were they really shine is played together really nice over all tone.
My style of play is rhythm/lead southern rock style and I just love the way they sound.
These are 5 wire humbucker pups so you have coil splitting options of you like.
I did try this and the single coil mode has a nice strat sound and almost noise free.
So if you got a cheap guitar or just want better pups and don't have a big budget for the name brand stuff.
Check these out they might be just the ticket for you.
they look good to.
Now my $85.00 ML sound like it should and real screamer.
Tech specs From the web site:
"We start with our twin stainless steel rails, polished to perfection. We wind these as hot as we can- a ferocious 16.2 for the bridge and a strong 10.4K for the neck. The Crunchy Rails are tighter, more focused versions of our Power Rails- and work the best with a good FAT amplifier."
I'm getting a small tube amp for the bedroom. I just picked up a 2x12 Orange cabinet today off Craig's List with two Celestion Vintage 30 speakers... and had been considering the Orange Tiny Terror as a head, but...
I just played the Egnater Rebel 20 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head and am intrigued. It offers more versatility than the Tiny Terror.
Keep in mind I like vintage 1970's and 1980's sounds and play mostly clean tones and some acoustics.
Anyways, my question here on the forum is, has anyone played the Egnater vs. Tiny Terror, and what do you think?
Any other potential options out there? I'm figuring the Egnater will cost me $600, so that is my max to spend on this. If anyone has something comparable (and used) in that price range, ping me about that also. I hope to place an order, though, in the next day or two.

Writing vocal lines
by benpari on Tue Jun 16, 2009 5:47 am
I have found myself as the singer as well as the guitar player of my new band. We are getting close to finishing our final song and I am stuck at the dilemma of writting the vocal lines over my guitar parts.
What do you do, or the singer in your band do, to come up with a vocal line over the guitar part? I have tried just singing the minor 3rd over the riff like Ozzy used to in sabbath, but that definitely doesn't always work, especially on some of the stuff I write.
I am pretty new to singing and and developing as a singer at a pretty slow pace. I don't have any natural talent so I have a long ways to go. (Any advice outside of getting a teacher, I have one, would be appreciated).
Just curious what you other singers out there do to actually put lyrics into the song.
Thanks.
Def Leppard and Taylor Swift!
I was flipping through the tv and I saw this...I was definitely impressed. Taylor's amazing Phil Collen is pretty cool too. I hope you guys like this!

i thought Schaller was the orginal make of FR's but everywhere i look it says Schaller is licensed by Floyd. anyway, why are so many people hot for the Schallers? are they really that much better than the OFR or is it just a matter of taste?
what do you think?
Picked up a sunburst JM strat today. I played a lot of strats and out of all of them, this one sang to me. I am really pleased with it. I have wanted a strat for a while.
Thanks

Recording with Guitar Rig 3
I'm a big fan of Guitar Rig 3. I love plugging into my laptop and getting a great tone.
This weekend I tried doing some serious recording with it.
Not happening. It sounded 'ok', but not even close to a real amp. I never suspected it would equal a real amp, but I thought the comparision would be close. I was hoping it would be close.
I also tried some different mics. The Heil still sounds best on guitar. The SM57 sounds good too (and usable) but that Heil's got great punch.
I tried some large diaphram mics too. They captured the distortion well, but lacked the chest-thump that I like.
I know your suposed to do it, what I don't know is how...
This is where you give me some advice
NAD!!!! (dial-up users beware, too much awesomeness!)
Picture the scene:
Its 2pm, im lying in bed watching Boozed, Broozed and Broken-Boned, eating a bowl of cereal . The door bell rings, UPS van outside.... NAD!
Believe me, it too more effort than you think to get this inside from the UPS delivery van
The Epi joins the scene
Open this box, remove a PILE or packaging and take a look at it
Yay, cab!
Too big for the bed side (starts to panic)
In the wardrobe it goes, then i removed the cloth railing above to make room for the head, bye bye old cloths. I am slightly in the picture aswell
Mmmmmm..... head in a box
Just out of the box, again it was extremely tightly packed in the box, well protected!
Just sitting on my bed... chilling
Purdy logo
On it goes, nearly put my back out (yeah, a 17 year old just complained about his back)
Yay!! Life!!
Togetherness (new word)
Plugged in and playing
Couple of hours later, this happens:
I was playing so loud the lights started flickering and one of the bulbs went out... 120watt all tube... a little too loud for bedroom practice
Heavy duty footswitch, this thing has a metal (\m/) casing, its built like an absolute tank, leads are very well secured!
I love this amp, ive been playing it all day, the gain is crushing. I definately see what people mean about these amps.... Beasts!
Sitting at a McDonalds using some WiFi while on a little road trip with the Mrs. I stopped in at a music store to kill some time. They had a 333XL halfstack. I will keep this very short. You guys know me. I am a stickler. That has got to be one of the best sounding metal amps ever created. The rumors are true. I hate the 6262, and have expressed that in that past, so this is non biased. I am NOT a Bugera fan and am skeptical because of past QC, but if they got that fixed then this amp can't be beat. It is truly amazing. OK I'm out, gotta get to driving....

NGD Hohner electric
by Lon on Wed Jun 17, 2009 1:41 am
Picked up 2 very rare guitars today, this is the only one I have pics of yet and this is from the seller. It's a 93 Hohner Revelation RTS. Made in the Czech Rep, very lightweight body with bizarre neck/pocket joint. Boutique Entwistle/White pickups with no load pot on the rear tone knob. Very clear and articulate. Roller nut. The Wilkinson tremolo is also different in that after feeding the strings through the bottom of the block you then screw in large set screws to hold them in place. Ridiculously solid. German Schaller tuners. No idea what to call the finish but I like it! I'll get better pics in a few days. The other guitar is an early 80s Takamine GX200 setneck solidbody electric.

Have yall heard of this amp??? Im just learning of it and it seems amazing...I havent seen a bad review or heard anything bad yet...opinions plz...
Nut width
by nytan on Wed Jun 17, 2009 3:48 am
So I was trying out a few acoustics today. One of the models I loved came in 2 different nut widths. "Original"- 1.80" and "Slim" - 1.72"
The 1.72" played fast like an electric guitar neck but I could swear the 1.80" neck contributed to better tone overall.
Do my ears deceive me, or does a wider fretboard, and consequently more wood carry better acoustic properties?
I ended up buying the wide neck, but please enlighten me as to whether I should make an exchange.
Boss ls-2 or Radial bigshot efx?

guitar shipping box

I got some stuff to ship and I do not currently have any guitar boxes. I have called all the shops around me and no one seems to have one that'll work. Does UPS/FedEx carry boxes this large? If so, are they expensive? I am not trying to drop $50 on some boxes
where do you get your shipping boxes? I usually get em from a shop in St Paul but they currently don't have the right size(s).

Chunky neck
by oaksong on Wed Jun 17, 2009 1:28 pm
So, this goes out to those who are pretty familiar with necks.
I tried a gibson 57 reissue, and it had a huge chunky D profile. Similar to the 58 as well.
Any deans come with a similarly large neck?
I ain't looking for anything illegal here, but does anybody know of any decent VST plugins I could use in conjunction with Reaper?
Cheers lads!
NGD coming soon. (Not Dean But Good anyway.)
Remind me to never say anything bad about my wife again. She got her refund check from her schooling and we got new couch and Love seat. She bought me a new wedding band and today she let me buy a Carvin Ultra V from the Hollywood store in CA. It should be here in about a week and a half. They are putting a different pup in it and restringing it for me. This one was a red tag clearance and just like the one that I had burn in a truck fire in California on I-40.
Here is a pic of the one that burned.
Here it is right before I left out on the trip that consumed it.

FUN WITH VINYL
by Vman on Wed Jun 17, 2009 5:01 pm
So this is my first time putting vinyl on a fretboard. Its a broken off set neck and its dirty and not in good shape.
I made these stickers last night, I didn't really measure much just kinda winged it. With that being said there is much room for improvement.
Not everything is easy to make some stuff was so bad I couldn't even use it. Less is more when it comes to small stickers, detail is a no no.
I had fun tho.
I will make some to test on a working guitar to see if the strings rip them up and I will be using other colors, thats just the stuff that was near me lol.

a few of the pics were with a cell phone so you all know how that goes
for a test run it wasnt bad. I am going to restring my V and do a tribal all the way down the board. I need to see how that comes out
trow me your ideas
I'm stuck in a vicious playing rut. What do you guys do to get outta this stuff? And what are some good intermediate level songs i should be playing? (ill take anything right now)
Hey guys. I have finished one song (the one I was asking about stricture with). Now, I was just pondering another question! Ok, how long does it take you to write and edit and tweak a song until it is to your liking and you finish it? The first song I just finished took me close to four days. Just wondering! Thanks guys!
What do you guys think of Bogner? I heard they are pretty good.
And none of those "Oh Randall not good enough anymore" Posts. I am the type of dude that wants to try many things.

Best of your import Deans?
Ok, Dean guitar collectors, which of your import Deans is the best player?
Mine is this ML.
I was not expecting this one to turn out to be the best sounding, easiest to play of my import Deans. I figured, cool paint job, bonus if it plays well. Well, it plays well!
I continue to be impressed with it.
This might be a simple question but...
My tube head has 8 ohm and 16 ohm output jacks. Can I run one 8 ohm cab and one 16 ohm cab out of this at the same time?
Mighty Mite and Stew-Mac necks?
so, im pricing out stuff for the p-bass im going to build over the next few months. from everything ive read and everything people have told me, Warmoth necks are the best on the market. I'd love to get one, but my budget is tight right now, so im looking for something a little less expensive. ive been looking at Mighty Mite and Stew-Mac. from what ive read, they're both pretty solid. not Fender USA quality, but much better than Mexican made Fender necks. and theyre both less than half the price of a Warmoth.
so, what do you guys think? should i go for one of the economical options, or would it be worth it to spend the extra cash on the Warmoth?

Old Alice In Chains or new Alice In Chains?
I'm going on an amp hunt...
by xero_uk on Thu Jun 18, 2009 7:42 am
...I'm going to catch a NEW one!!!
Here's the deal. I currently own an Marshall MG100HDFX w/ Cab (yes...an MG ), and I have decided 2 things:
a) I do not need a half stack.
b) MG series is kinda lame.
So I am looking at upgrading the quality, while downgrading the size.
I went to EVERY guitar shop in the area yesterday to see what combo amps were on offer and all I could find was the JCM410C:
At £899 best price, this is kinda outta my price range.
So I went to my favorite guitar shop and asked some advice and he recommended the Randall RG50Combo:
Which is cool, but would look alittle outta place with my rack-mounted stuff balancing on top .
So I need the advice of the equipment fanatics over here.
So far I am intrested in the Peavey Valveking 212:
I've heard very good things, and it's also cheap. Even cheaper than the 50w Randall!!!
So, Dean Forumites, your advice is needed! I am open to ANY suggestions so please, fire away.
Thanks in advance!
Can anyone direct me to a free online drum program that would be
good for metal??
Shipping an axe to Canada?
Hey folks,
as some of you might know, i've been trying to move my trendkill geet.
Last night i recieved a question asking if i would be willing to ship to Canada- aye?
I have never shipped anything outside the US.
Has anyone done so? If so, anything special i need to do, for customs etc?
i'm going to call UPS when i have a chance to get more info.
Sorry if it seems ignorant, but i want to know any doomsday-stories, or advise before i write them back-
Thanks

So i saw Down for the 3rd and 4th time this Tuesday and Wednesday. Before the gig I bumped in to Jimmy, I was way to drunk to keep up a sensible conversation with him. So went into the gig, Static X were supporting, not a fan, they were tight and all but I wasn't really feeling them and nor was the crowd. So Down arrive on stage and open with Lysergik, brought back memories of 06'. Can't really remember the set from Tuesday, but the crowd were on top form. Phil dedicated N.O.D to me saying "This song is for the %$#@!'r with the mohawk singing all the words".
Wednesday hits and I am ragingly hungover, hit the pub again for a cure. And stumbled down to the gig. Saw Kirk outside but decided I'd give him his peace and not bother him. Set kicked ass tonight. Better than Tuesday but the crowd werent as good. Anyway, Phil said N.O.D was for me again and gave me his water. I then went crowd surfing towards the end and Phil reached into the crowd to shake my hand and said "thanks for coming out to the 2 shows" to me. I got 2 plecs from Rex to add to my collection of Down plecs.
Heres the set from Wednesday:
hail the leaf
underneath everything
lifer
the path
rehab
new orleans is a dying whore
N.O.D
there's something on my side
swan song
beneath the tides
eyes of the south
stone the crow
bury me in smoke
Anyway they were the best 2 nights i've had in a loooong time. Felt I'd share, sorry if you don't give a sh!t

What is up with the Private Messages?

I have had a strange occurence that has happened a few times over the past few days. I go to my email account and it says that I have a new PM on the Dean forum. I come here and there are no new messages.
Is anyone else having this problem, or is it just me? Is somebody sending me angry messages, then having the Moderators retract them or something?

Nick Menza
The EQ(B,M,T)for Dean Stock Pick-ups
Does anybody know the EQ for Dean Stock Pick-ups or a website I can go to?
I have Dean stock pick-ups, but they have a weak treble response so,i'm gunna try to get a better pick-up with less of a D.C. resistance which probably will get rid of sum output but i'll deal with it.
I went to the Metal Hammer Magazine's Golden God Awards last Monday . It was an awsome night !
Trivium were amazing and I fell in love with a band of such awsomness , I guess you could say they are Chuck Norris , but a Band .
That Band is Saxon !!!!
But one thing that troubles me , one of the guitarists was using a Dean V , but ive never seen one like that before , no i dont have a pic of it .
Anybody know anything about it ?
Is it a Custom or Prototype/Signature ?
P.S Saxon Rule !
part of a new Megadeth song leaked
this was posted exclusively for the Megadeth fan club, and of course, was leaked to the rest of the web. the song is called "Headcrusher" and the new album "Endgame" will be out later this year.
this tiny part of a song sounds awesome, reminds me of "Peace Sells..." era stuff. I havent been real into Megadeth's recent material (its not bad, but nothing special), but this gives me hope.

Megadeth name new album
by Maverick on Thu Jun 18, 2009 10:53 pm
Yes yes another Megadeth thread. No i could not just post it in another thread.
"Heavy metal institution Megadeth have announced ENDGAME as the title of their twelfth studio album. The album is expected to be released in September through Roadrunner Records
. It was recorded at the band’s brand new, self-built studio, Vic's Garage, located near San Diego and named after the legendary and iconic Vic Rattlehead character.
ENDGAME is being produced by Andy Sneap and Dave Mustaine. Sneap also manned the boards for 2007’s United Abominations. Some track titles include “Headcrusher,” “1,320,’” “How the Story Ends” and “This Day We Fight!”
ENDGAME boasts the technicality, ferocity and snarl that’s synonymous with Megadeth and Mustaine. It’s a violent masterwork that represents Mustaine’s best work in nearly two decades. In a musical world dominated by bands that make generic, blanket statements, ENDGAME finds Mustaine, once again, making informed and substantial lyrical declarations about the state of the world we live in.
Mustaine himself commented on ENDGAME, saying, “Thematically, I’ve never been known to be a silent bystander in a world that needs our participation. As more is revealed about our former President’s legacy, a little-known yet staggeringly frightening document which was signed into law, named ‘ENDGAME,’ has been uncovered. The album ‘ENDGAME’ is the most energetic music offering I have penned in over a decade and is far more believable than knowing someone signed ‘ENDGAME’ -the document- into law. The album is also the perfect ‘ass- kicking’ music to listen to once you are done reading the aforementioned document!”
In short, it’s the Megadeth record that fans of classics like So Far…So Good…So What? and Rust in Peace have been chomping at the bit for.
“This new album is my proudest moment since the famous (or infamous) Rust in Peace album,” Mustaine also said. “With this album, I am also very excited to be introducing my new lead guitarist Chris Broderick to the world. I have always felt lucky to have had top shredders in that position, but after touring with Chris in support of my last album, I couldn’t wait to get into the studio and see what he could do.”
Megadeth’s lineup consists of Mustaine, Broderick, bassist James LoMenzo and drummer Shawn Drover.
Earlier this year, Mustaine was the recipient of the “Golden God Award” at the first ever Golden Gods Awards, presented by Revolver. "

hand workout backfires
by Vilches3 on Fri Jun 19, 2009 12:51 am
Im having a small issue this week.
I wanted to make my hands stronger, so I set up my SG special which has a huge C profile up with 11 gauge strings and practiced on it every day thinking it would make playing my slimmer necked guitars such as my 88 ibanez saber and washburn HM whatever its called even easier to play. Now when i play slimmer necked guitars, i feel like I suck, as a matter of fact I got so frustrated I wanted to quit playing (after 5 years) since they're all I played this week. When i plugged im my SG later on though it didnt sound as nice, but it played smooth as butter.....has anyone else encountered this issue before? would it be wiser to practice on one guitar per day or something? the reason i dont practice on my slimmer necks is because i dont want to get lazy and suck when people hand me harder to play guitars like les pauls and acoustics. Slimmer necked guitars were strictly for jamming, and now i can't Jam on them!!

Guitar shakedown.
by Spite on Fri Jun 19, 2009 7:33 am
So, you've recieved your new guitar from an online store with a 15-30 days return policy, and you want to give it a good ol' shakedown before deciding wether or not to keep it.
What do you look at first?
If it comes with a floyd, do you go on a floyd-wanking spree to try it out?
Do you look at the wires and solderjoints?
Do you pull all the hardware off it to check the routing?
Uli Jon Roth, Elliott, and Josh
Just walked in the door from seeing Uli Jon Roth at the Galaxy in Santa Ana.
Sorry, no pics, my blackbery wasnt having it.
Eliott was playing a new Dean USA Bass in purple. God I think he played like 14 songs. Really tight playing all night. Great tone.
Josh Maloney from the custom shop and artist relations actually sang about 6-7 songs as well. I was pretty surprised, guys got pretty good pipes.
Anyway, I guess Eliott said there was a photographer there and he's going to post pics of them for us when he gets back. Looks like it'll be a couple weeks as Eliott is doing the whole tour.
He also mentioned hes playing bass for the schenker group when they play out here in a couple weeks too.
damn... thats a busy guy.

Technically.. NGD! (lots 'o pr0n)
by AhsanU on Fri Jun 19, 2009 10:17 pm
Hehe, sup guys!
So, I purchased a Razorback V a while back. It looked pretty damn good to begin with but I had other intentions for it. I always wanted to copy Corey Beaulieu's Blood Angel V and since I found a Razorback V for a really good price I jumped on it. So it started out in life as a typical White/Black V.
http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb301/AhsanU/IMG_0144.jpg
http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb301/AhsanU/IMG_0137.jpg
After contacting a few forum members, sac (Matt) was up for the job. Here are pics of the process:
And, the last pics that Matt took himself before shipping it out to me Thanks a billion bro, you did an amazing job.
Here's when I got it!

http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb301/AhsanU/IMG_0331.jpg
And, after lots of work, here's the finished product. Threw a pair of Blackouts, an OFR, and new Grover Tuners to finish it off. She's beautiful, and plays like a beauty too.
HUGE thanks to Matt for the paintjob. I highly recommend you guys to him if you want your guitar painted. He won't disappoint.
Bolt on neck fastener upgrade
by korus999 on Fri Jun 19, 2009 11:20 pm
As many of you know I bought a b-stock ML XM For $85.00 new.
I bought this guitar for 2 reasons 1: I wanted an ML.
2: I wanted sometime to customize that was cheap and if I fubared it I was out a lot of cash.
My first upgrade was GFS rail pups that I have already reviewed here on another thread.
The other is this bolt on neck fastener upgrade:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=170305952745
This changes the fasteners from wood screws to stainless steel machine screws and brass inserts.
First if your not comfortable with tools and following instructions don't try this. There is some drilling to do so your will need a hand drill .
But of you are or you have a bolt-on with stripped or broken screws or just want better playability this is a great system.
It makes the guitars neck almost feel like a set neck.
A lot more stable and a tighter neck to body joint.
Again this is not for this novice it takes a good 2 hours to do.
The reason is your have to be very careful with the brass inserts or you will brake them.
They do send and extra just in case.
And I don't recommend this for classic guitars is it will decrease their value.
considering the other forum didn't get much attention, i'll post it here
whats up with dean not liking green or blue for their imports? i mean, they already have yellow in some of their guitars. they have red as well. even purple! why not green and blue
if they offer a blue soltero, i'd sell my AL 3100 right away...provided its the right weight and feels 'right'
anyways, would be nice to have these as either standard model or limited run. if its limited, would be nice to have ebony, but whatever...either black or chrome hardware would look purdy
and this should be a standard run too!
