What Model Number is this razorback V?
by MLX-BLK on Wed Jul 01, 2009 4:09 am
Hey all,
I'm thinking about doing a trade for an old Ibanez RG550 I have for this
Dean V Razorback.

http://s112.photobucket.com/albums/n190/xxblazinaznxx/?action=view&current=Picture4.jpg

Serial is US07050618
I think it's a continued Dime Razorback Standard (Black/Red)

Can anyone verify this?
Three effects pedals you can't live without?
by VashFLCL on Wed Jul 01, 2009 8:46 am
I would say that I keep my entire situation simple.

Distortion pedal, hoping to test out a Ibanez tube screamer (I've only played the Viper modeling of one an loved it), and possibly delay or reverb

How bout you guys?
Halo Guitars?
by tvelt017 on Wed Jul 01, 2009 1:44 pm
Has anyone ever seen/played a Halo Guitar?

I kinda like the way the reaper model looks, but I've heard next to nothing about them and what I have heard isn't all that great.

So, does anyone know anything about them or is this just another brand that should just be avoided?
ESP necks
by splittailstealth on Wed Jul 01, 2009 1:49 pm
Ok guys please don't bite my head off. Confused

I know this is the DEAN forum. Surprised Cool

I've never personally played an ESP, but are their necks hard to get used to if all you've ever played is a regular C-shape?

I'm asking this because I hear that they have a weird shape with their necks.
Amps in Stereo
by Overdriven on Wed Jul 01, 2009 4:45 pm
I just hooked my DC5 and my HT5 up in stereo and GOD DAMN SON! That's an amazing sound! The Mesa is a lot tigether, but the blackstar can dial into some of that marshall hugeness that the mesa just can't capture with the 6L6's...

while using a delay pedal up front is a bit of a sin, it's really awesome to hook up two amps in stereo.

Who else is running stereo amps? and what've you got?

My kid was watching some show called Yo Gabba Gabba a little while ago and they had a band playing. One of guitarists was playing a lefty silverburst Caddy.
NAD!
by Joose on Wed Jul 01, 2009 5:52 pm
Was finally able to get rid of the 6505+. As some of you know, that amp was just not right for me.

I did a trade with someone on another forum for a perfect condition Rivera Knucklehead Tre 120.

This thing is a tank! I can't wait to try it out later tonight. Especially if I can find my Maxon OD808 to boost it.

Only 1 picture right now, and it's from my phone, so excuse the quality.

Guitar on left or right knee?? Going to switch to left!
by dan_plus_o on Wed Jul 01, 2009 11:52 pm
Hey guys just wondering what most of you guys prefer. Playing your guitar on your left or right knee. I have been playing guitar for over 10 years and I have always played on my right knee (I am right handed) but now that I am playing much more demanding fast solo stuff I am finding that having my guitar on my right knee makes my left elbow too close to my body and it feels awkward. I am also a little over weight so that doesn't help when playing solos up at the 17th frets. I have noticed that most of the big guys in metal guitar all play on their left knee.

So I guess I'm not really looking for any answer or anything I am just curious to see what your point of view is on the left vs right knee. I have been playing on my left for the past 20 minutes or so and it is already feeling way more natural and comfortable. Also something my guitar teacher told me a long time ago.. He said which knee is closer to the position your guitar would be in when playing standing up.. obviously the left knee is a lot more similar to playing standing up then the right knee is.

Has anyone else here made the switch from right knee to left knee? If so, why and did you find it hard to make the switch or was it easy? I am also interested in getting a V shaped guitar some day (probably the LTD Alexi) and those things seem to be impossible to play on your right knee.

Jackson Rhoads shape
by splittailstealth on Thu Jul 02, 2009 12:45 am
I was just looking at the RR3 and the gas started to build up. Shocked Very Happy

Does the Rhoads shape appeal to anyone else besides me? It looks cool but then I started to think about how uncomfortable it looks to play sitting down. Confused

Even though I would play standing up the majority of the time, I still play sitting sometimes.

Well.....a kind of noobish EMG question
by splittailstealth on Thu Jul 02, 2009 7:00 am
There are two guitars I really want that both have EMGs. One is a B.C. Rich and the other is an ESP.

I know a little about EMGs and what they sound like, but do they make different guitars sound the same?

The reason I'm asking is because I don't want to have two guitars that sound the same. What's the point of even getting the other guitar? Confused

silverburst ML early run??
by hotwheels on Thu Jul 02, 2009 2:31 pm
Is anyone a fan of the silverburst ML?
Everyone I've seen has a Black back.
Mine is an 04' the first year they came out.
And has a silver back.
I do know that they were named Dime bag Joe after a forum member. I got that in a email from DOA JIM. which I did print out. I ran into a Dean rep right after I got it and he told me it was a very early run. It was to costly to continue the silver back, so they changed to the all black back.
And he also said that there was fewer than 200 made or maybe even less, with the silver back.
Has anybody else heard anything like that or was he just blowing smoke up my rear.

I have conpared it to my other two 79 series and it has a different neck.
It feels alot wider than my others.
And the black pups scream alot brighter/hotter than stock zebra pups. Any info on them? Thxs for any help.
Dean and ESP
by Davebag on Thu Jul 02, 2009 5:16 pm
well i was at GuitarTrader yesterday and i saw a white ESP Les Paul(im not familiar with the names of ESP guitars) that looked good to me.
i picked it up, flipped it around to look at the back of the headstock and saw that the serial number looks alot like Dean import serial numbers.
the ESP was a import BTW and i saw this in the thread with the guy trying to find out about his baby ML

Greg Crowe wrote:
Wayne pretty much covered it but I'll add........ Made in 1984 by ESP in Japan. They usually go around $300.

so are import Deans made in the same factory as ESPs? would that make Dean and ESP the same guitars just with different brand names stamped on them?

Yup, I just saw Bon Jovi on Sat 27 Jun 09. He played the Magnetic Hill Music Festival in Moncton, NB. It was quite the trip driving all the way over there for the show, but well worth it for sure. Bachman Cummings, State of Shock, and Mobile also played. It was my first time seeing Bon Jovi play, so there's another "tick in the box" for people I'd love to see play live.

Anyways, I know what you really want! Here's some pron...ok lots of it! Laughing

MXR eq clipping lights
by meticalman on Fri Jul 03, 2009 9:42 am
So, I am running my mxr 10 band eq in the effects loop of my RM100 just like i used to with my V2.

For some reason now, the lights on the level and gain sliddders blink when i hit heavy chords, i read somewhere this meant it was clipping.
but i'm not boosting anything, it does it even when the pedal is off, like it can't handle the new head, it doesn't do this with the v2.

There are no sound problems, but i wonder what it means?

YES!!! NPD!!!! D-sonic mini review *NOW WITH SOME PRON*
by guitarist1993 on Fri Jul 03, 2009 8:02 pm
Sweet! Got my Kelly back with the D-sonic installed!!! It sounds pretty damn badass so far, it cuts through the mix amazingly!! Still tweaking a little bit, but I definitely recommend this pickup.

It cuts through better than I would have imagined, I heard it was a pretty bass-heavy when I was looking around for info. It's got plenty of power to it, and is still very clear and articulate. Very middy, so it gives a great crunch when I'm going for teh brootalz Laughing

But what really surprised me about it was the cleans. It's got a beautiful clean tone. Even in the bridge, and with the midrange the D-sonic has, it wasn't nasally or harsh AT ALL. Somebody at Dimarzio knows their shi t. I have no idea how they managed to make such a well rounded pickup, but damn, they did.

I might try flipping it so that the bar is toward the neck just to see the difference.

I'll some prons upload soon, if I can figure out how. Laughing

Okay, bit of a problem.
by AhsanU on Sat Jul 04, 2009 1:44 am
Sup guys.

I recently made some upgrades to my Razorback V, which includes a an original floyd rose.

Long story short, the back plate that covers the back no longer fits because the floyd block is too big and it sticks out a little bit.

What can I do? Can I get one made from someone on the forums or something?

I need one because when I play standing up, my stomach hits the springs in the back sometimes, causing a change in pitch. Thus, making my guitar sound like Stevie Wonder tuned it.

Anyone here have one /played one....Thoughts on them? I am out for a new amp
i'm officially spoiled....
by rottingcorpse on Sat Jul 04, 2009 3:52 am
my marshall kerry king and the engl powerball have built in noise gates(after the preamp section). so even when i crank them up past 5-6,they remain dead nutz silent. there is no need for a gate in the loop. this is good,as the marshall does not even have a loop. these amps are as quiet on standby as when they are on.

my isp theta head has a built in decimater, but i dont like the tone i have gotten out of it so far(though i havent tried much).

the framus dragon is pretty quiet,as i can recall. so is the laboga mr.hector. but they still hiss a little.

most of my other heads hiss badly,as do most high gain heads. the randall x2 is the worst offender, followed by the framus cobra, and the madison prophecy.

obviously, this is not so much of a problem when playing in a band at rehearsal or in a live situation,as there is a lot of ambient noise going on all over the place(hiss from the p.a.,drummers whacking away while trying to talk to each other, girlfriends whining they want to go shopping,etc.). but i am playing in a tight, quiet room with padded walls(to muffle the screams of the women i keep bound and gagged there).

when i hook up any other heads,i am taken aback by the noise. i am sure that it didnt bother me before. but i am spoiled now.

and i hate using the loop all the time. i would only like to use it for effects like delay or verb and such,so you could both boost and effect the solo section with one click. yes,i could get a rack with a ground controller, and program everything like some sort of nasa scientist, but i let the rack thing go years ago for the simplicity of guitar/pedal/amp thing.

in a way,you guys using a distortion pedal, then a gate into the clean channel of an amp have it easy in this respect.

anyway,i wish more high gain amps came with built in gates after the preamp section. maybe assignable so they click off when the effects loop was engaged. rant over.

Ill post clips later. Ive never been happier with an amp right out of the box more so than with the bugera 6262. It has more clarity than the fireball, more umph than the 5150, and for 650 shipped new?!?!?!?! I think we have found a winner.

Am I the only one that sucks at F chords?
by Evil Panda on Sat Jul 04, 2009 3:33 pm
Seriously. Fauk F chords. I know it's just a barre chord, but god damnit! My fingers are all "HAHA! YOU CAN'T DO IT!" and I'm all "WHAT THE HELL?! IT'S NOT THAT HARD! JUST PLAY AN E A HALF STEP UP! OMGOGOGMOGMOGM FAUK YEW FINGERS!"

I'm not the best guitar player ever anyways... having played bass for a long time, and only recently really started trying playing guitar past power chords and noodling.

But seriously... fauk F chords. And all the other barre chords. >.>

Also, turns out new strings make chording easier. Did you guys know that? I didn't. Same brand and guage and everything... wacky.
Line 6 - Any killer configurations? - Share them!

Got the "Studio UX 1" with "Pod Farm".

And there is no single source where people share some configuration/hardware combinations.

If you have any good amp/effect/noise gate combinations or something like that; please share them.

Has someone figured out a Dime tone?

(Gary Moore - Spanish Guitar Solo)

I changed some settings (small room wasn't available so I went with medium hall) cause I first need an upgrade and I also changed the hall (371 to 290).
So it's not the original configuration.
Hope that's okay(at the moment).

Luna Guitars
by soliloquy on Sat Jul 04, 2009 11:22 pm
yeah yeah, there was a thread about em a while ago.
but my question is, where are they made? are their electrics and acoustics made in korea? china? where?
what tuners are they using? one video said its grover. some pictures show them having no name what so ever.

also, do you have their acoustic guitars? post em here. i know a member here has the trinity guitar with the white bands instead of rosewood. that was bought in 2006 if i'm not mistaken.

and lanning has an electric apollo, or had it.

i'm thinking of selling my acoustic, and getting a trinity parlor, or something...
eyeing a Razorback Explosion with some serious flaws
by psychohaulic on Sun Jul 05, 2009 2:03 am
heya all! after wailing on my angel of deth and loving her the last week, i started getting the Dean bug! at the local music chain store here they have a Razorback Explosion thats been hanging for at least 6 months, so today i decided to pull her down and give her a test drive.

First thing i noticed is the price, its close to the same league as my VMNT, so im expecting quality since my V is pristine. I take her into the dark lit amp room and plug it into the same amp i own at home....give her a wail, sounds good im starting to fall in love again! hit the floyd, it feels smooth, nice low action decent pickups....hey this is cool!

Then....i took her out to the guitar area which is brightly lit, and start looking her over. I got a picky eye...finish looks good, check the horns and no chips at all. THEN, i get to the neck. right away i notice the black binding is cracked on at least half of the frets all the way down, on top AND the bottom! and not little cracks, like right thru the whole piece of binding cracks!! So in shock i look where the neck meets the body, and the finish is cracked again , 2 inch long cracks or so on either side in the black finish!! Like the neck is breaking outta the body!

SO again i look for any evidence of a bad fall or something and i dont see any clues to damage. like really all these cracks look like as if the neck wood dried too fast or something and just split everything. AND now im worried bout my VMNT, please tell me that isnt the case hehe.

SO all in all i wanted to hear yer proffesional opinions because i might be able to score a decent deal on it if i convince the guitar guy at the store how delapitated it is, but is it worth it? and is it fixable? a deal is a deal but it would drive me nuts after a while, id wanna look at fixing it. so should i bother or should i just forget about it and carry on loving my VMNT Very Happy

Thanks!

"cheers"

yet another amp thread
by Jaff on Sun Jul 05, 2009 6:53 pm
so ive been looking for a new amp for a while now, because at the moment i have a crate amp which sounds awful.

i play mostly thrash and metalcore, thats the kinda tone i want.

ive been looking at valvekings mostly (the 112 amp) ive done a lot of forum searches and it seems that the valvekings dont have enough gain.

i dont mind buying a tube screamer or other pedal like that to get a better tone out of the VK

my budget is around £400 which is like $700 i think. im open to other amp suggestions or pedals suggestions to go along with the VK
333xl vs 6260 vs any other head for less than 6.
by RIOT on Sun Jul 05, 2009 7:20 pm
It is indeed a glorious day, I'm finally in the position to get a few new amps.

I'm going to need one for the dorm and I'm gonna have one for the house,I figured I'd go blackstar for the house being that I'm horribly petrified of my mother and I rather have the cheaper amp at home just in case one day she decides she's Barry Bonds and wants to hit a higher batting percentage.

So that leaves the 333xl and the 6260......

Now apparently these amps were made for broke chumps like me,I can't go over 6bills for a amp head and BONG!I discovered two heads that are highly praised and will still permit me to be awfully obnoxious to all other inhabitants on the floor,so once again I turn to my brothers(and apparently sisters) on the forum and ask for advice.

Pros&Cons for both amps and any other heads you reccommend for under 6bills.

Want to buy new guitars...
by Metallon on Mon Jul 06, 2009 10:45 pm
I'm selling my guitars to purchase some new ones. I'm looking for one main guitar and one guitar to have as a back-up/practice guitar. I've been looking around and I'm definitely looking at buying a type of guitar that somehow makes me feel like I'm back in time. My music style stretches far and wide but mostly I play heavy metal (in the band, that is). While I stretch from old school hard rock and 80's heavy/thrash metal to modern metal and melodeath, I still like a vintage sound in terms of warmth, hotness crunch, etc. Hence my liking for Seymour Duncans and Marshalls.

I'm kind of set on buying a used white Gibson Explorer and an Epiphone Flying V. But I'm kind of hesitating because there is a part of me that wants a Dean. Despite having heard nuemrous claims that Dean guitars lack quality, aren't good anymore, are overpriced, etc. I'm still desiring one.

Uhh yeah, so... Razorback, Razorback V, ML or normal V is what I'm looking at. I'm also trying to not put don more than like, 1000 bucks or something... and I know that probably excludes all Razorbacks...

but yeah, anyone got any ideas on what to buy?
Dean Evo knowledge?
by rinos88 on Mon Jul 06, 2009 10:55 pm
Today I went with GourmetGyno to Springfield, Illinois. We were out putting up flyers in hopes to find a singer for our band, as we don't want do do it ourselves anymore.

We happened to go into a store that had a used Dean Evo for $899. It had a sparkly silver top with black back and sides. The neck was phenomenal.

I didn't have a camera with me or I'd have snapped a picture. I've never seen this color on an Evo and it looked really old. The serial number started with "D." However, it didn't say where it was made.

Does anyone know what this is and if it is a rarity?

my question is; would it be safe to use with my amp and other equipment?
would it be smart to use a power conditioner with it? how are they grounded?
and how long does a tank of gas last generators?

NGD.....again! My second USA guitar!
by ShreddyMcFuntits on Tue Jul 07, 2009 2:39 pm
I'm guessing some of you might not like this, but what the hell, I love it! Laughing

Its a USA Washburn Preacher PS5. The Preacher is Paul Stanley's signature model.

This guitar sounds better and sustains longer than any other guitar I've ever played. If you hold a note or a chord, it just goes on and on and on.......It really does sound brilliant.

The colour is called "racing red", and it was really hard to photograph (especially considering all I have to take pictures with is my phone camera), and the guitar just kept coming out orange in the pics. This was the best I could do, but it looks awesome in person, the colour really pops and stands out from my other guitars.

Anyways, PRON!

I've read where things like this have happened to a couple people.

Check this:

I order a Randall V2 Archetype head. Says it's IN STOCK. I pay $34 extra for faster shipping so that I get it in time to record with it.

So far so good.

They take the money off my card within 12 hours. So I assume that means things are going smoothly and it'll get shipped that night or the next morning. NOPE.

After emailing with a guy named Tyler for a couple days about other stuff and about getting a cab from them soon as well; I get this email:

"Arick,

I will check with Randall about the cab and let you know. I also want to
make you aware that there is a 45 day lead time for the Randall V2
Archetype head. Let us know if this will not work for you.

Thanks,

Tyler"

...

Hell no that will not work for me! Is he out of his mind?

So now I told him no it won't work. He sent me another email that simply said, "okay, I'll make sure your order gets canceled soon then."

They better refund that money just as quickly, if not quicker than they took it.

DON'T PUT "IN STOCK" IF IT ISN'T!

the story:

Quote:
Full Story: http://www.davecarrollmusic.com/story... - In the spring of 2008, Sons of Maxwell were traveling to Nebraska for a one-week tour and my Taylor guitar was witnessed being thrown by United Airlines baggage handlers in Chicago. I discovered later that the $3500 guitar was severely damaged. They didnt deny the experience occurred but for nine months the various people I communicated with put the responsibility for dealing with the damage on everyone other than themselves and finally said they would do nothing to compensate me for my loss. So I promised the last person to finally say no to compensation (Ms. Irlweg) that I would write and produce three songs about my experience with United Airlines and make videos for each to be viewed online by anyone in the world. United: Song 1 is the first of those songs. United: Song 2 has been written and video production is underway. United: Song 3 is coming. I promise.

Finding Real Singers?
by rinos88 on Wed Jul 08, 2009 5:11 pm
Does anyone have any avenue I should try to find a singer for my band. We're in the Symphony X, Dream Theater, Kamelot type music and need a good singer.

However, we either run into guys that go "Grrr," or "Bwaaah," or they think they can sing, but are completely tone deaf.

I've tried Myspace, Craigslist, BandMix.com and putting flyers in every music shop within 50 miles of us.

Does anyone else have any idea of how to find a real singer? Does nobody actually sing anymore?

In the 80's there were singers everywhere...................... Evil or Very Mad

Hey Guy´s,

I got offered a USA Vintage Dean ML TBZ Standard here in Europe, but the price is kinda ridiculous high..he wants 3460$ for it and it´s worn down on the wood on the back and worn trough the finish on the front between the two last strings. The neckpickupring is a little warped too.

It´s the one with the replaced TC neck and so it´s no longer an all original.
This guitar is my alltimefavourite guitar and I really want it baaad!!!

Guitar Center Rant
by deathgrind on Thu Jul 09, 2009 12:50 am
Dudes, we just need to make a damn Guitar Center Horror Stories section already hahaha. So I go to GC with a print out for 3 sets of 10 gauge DR. Black Beauties $8.00 a piece (10.99 in the store). I give it to accessory girl and decide I want to get Dean Markley Alchemy strings. I found what they had to offer then went to use their "find it cheaper" computer and found them for 8.95 on StringsAndThings.com (12.95 at the GC I was at). Well I go tell her, she looks it up, then tells me I will also have to pay the shipping and handling the site was charging. I asked her if that was written in their policy and she told me it was. I went back to their "find it cheaper" computer and read the policy twice over. No where was it stated that you have to pay the shipping charge from the site that is being price matched. I went back to the girl and told her it wasnt in the policy and if she could show me in writing I would pay the difference. She says I can talk to the manager.

The managaer comes over, the accessory girl explains the situation and the manager starts to tell me that I should have to pay the shipping charge because the site doesnt charge any tax. I say "listen dude, I didn't ask you guys why I should have to pay the shipping, I asked you to show me the policy in writing and I wont have any problem paying." He finally says well maybe its not in the policy but thats how they tell us to do it here. Well they did end up selling me the DR. strings for $8.00 a pack because the site I found them on only shows shipping charges if you actually buy them but wouldn't sell me the Alchemy strings for the $8.95. When I worked at Sam Ash we price matched for advertised price ONLY. Im pretty sure they try to pull that crap so they don't loose their commission. I know it sucks but I had bitten the bullet in sales plenty of times and not tried to make some wack rules because hey, the people I did help out came and bought from me anyway. They became my customers and I made alot more then if I tried to make an extra dollar on commission from not hooking them up on a sale. GC sucks, end rant!
It's time to start looking for a new cab... recommendations?
by Joose on Thu Jul 09, 2009 4:12 am
Alright, so my Randall V2 Ninja will be here on Friday, and I can't wait!

However... my Line 6 Vetta cab (300 watt handling) is finally starting to give way after 4 years of an HD147, followed by a Peavey 6505+.

I play in drop B, I use Dimarzio Super Distortions and EMGs.

I'm looking for a cab that will help out with a very heavy tone. Something that can handle "chug chug" riffs, but can also compliment a nice clean tone and project those "big choruses".

If I could find a Warhead 4x12 for a good price, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

But I don't see those poppin' up too often.

I have been self teaching myself through books like I'm sure many of you do as well. So my question to you is, which do you find faster and more effective

Economy or Alternate picking?

Honestly I always thought I did alternate, but looking at myself and trying to do some of the exercises in this book the way they are taught, Alternate seems inefficient and kinda the road map to the faster economy picking.

TICKED OFF BEYOND BELIEF!
by rinos88 on Thu Jul 09, 2009 2:29 pm
I've been royally screwed and if any of y'all happen to be lawyers or just really smart in the legal sense, please let me know.
This is guitar related because it has to do with a guitar store card.

About a year and a half ago I got a store card for a guitar store. I want to note that I hold nothing against the store, as they're great. My anger is with G.E. Money Bank, the card issuer.

I've bought quite a few things on this card and then paid them off......then bought more. My credit is, now probably was excellent.

In my company this past year, there started rumors about layoffs, due to the cut back in work and loss of all overtime. So, when I was on the phone with G.E. Money Bank to try to fix a late fee that resulted in their computer screw up, I was told about an opt in program that erases my entire account balance in case of involuntary job loss. I opted in in case the rumors in my company were true. This was in the past November.

As luck would have it, later on in the month, they started laying people off based on seniority. I made it until February 27th. After I got let go, I called G.E. Money bank to initiate the unemployement insurance that I had paid the extra money for. They told me at that point that I had to be off for at least 90 days before I can do this. So, I was frustrated, but waited the 90 days and called back.

The guy on the phone told me "Sorry to hear about your job loss, sir. I've initiated your benefit on this. Please make your final payment this month and everything after that will be taken care of. You're an excellent customer and we hope to do business with you again after you regain your job."

I was happy, as a $1200 bill was just taken care of. About a month ago, I got a call from them to tell me that I was late on my payment and they wanted it right then. Obviously, I'm unemployed and didn't have it, as I'm barely getting by. The guy on the phone said that the benefit had not kicked in yet and said this would probably now be my last payment. Instead of renewing my liscense plates on my truck, I used the money to save my credit score and paid $63 dollars.

Now, I get another call about the same thing. I was really mad and had them transfer me to a person to talk about this. They told me that I was denied the benefit about a month ago because I had not had the unemployment insurance on my account long enough to initiate it. Evil or Very Mad What sucks even more is that I was not notified in any way that I was denied! So, I had late fees jumping up on me.

Not only this, but at the beginning in July, I was NAILED with promotional payoff charges and now the bill is over $2,100! It was supposed to be cleared at the end of May, and to my knowledge was. If I'd have known this was going to happen, I'd have used my income tax return to pay this card way down instead of paying off my Best Buy card and Guitar Center card. I had about a year on each of those to pay without intrest.

When you think of great tone...
by shread_bringer on Thu Jul 09, 2009 4:27 pm
Who do you think of?

I'm going to be honest, I can't think of a single metal player with tone I like. I like a real round tone. I LIKE mids. I heard Joe Bonamasa say that people turn down mids because they show off all the mistakes in your playing. So I absolutely love a bluesy tone.

I mean c'mon, really? I KNOW it's made it somewhere else by now. This happens 7/10 times I receive something through UPS. And sometimes I call them just to see if someone will update me verbally. But it's always just a, "I'm sorry, sir. I can't give you the details, but it is on time!"

Well I got a Bare Knuckles VHII in the bridge and a Seymour Duncan Alnico II in the neck of my EC-400. I have to say theyre really quite impressive. They dont have quite as much gain as the EMG's but theyre so much more clear. The VHII is kind of quacky when on clean settings but on the distortion channel sounds great. I can pull off metal quite well with them. The Alnico II is just great all around the board. The cleans are fantastic and on distortion it just sounds so round and clear. Im def gonna be playing these for a while. Maybe Ill try to get some sound clips for you guys.

by shread_bringer on Fri Jul 10, 2009 9:08 pm
OK so I've always played blue dunlop tortex picks, I just love the feel of the tortex. But I've always wanted to play a tiny little jazz pick they just felt so nice.

Then last week I was in a guitar store trying out this guitar but I didn't have a pick so I asked the guy if he had one I could borrow, he said sure, and handed me this Dunlop tortex jazz pick in 1mm and everything. It was black but I didn't care. I was like dude this pick is awesome (the guitar not so much) I asked him for four sets of those, and he was like, we don't carry them but you can get them from musicians friend.

So I get home and go straight to musicians friend. I find these and I think they are the same one's...

http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Dunlop-Tortex-Pitch-Black-Jazz-Guitar-Picks-1-Dozen?sku=111003

So I order four sets in 1mm

Now fast forward to today. I was cutting the grass and the UPS man walks up with a box (I ordered more than just picks) and puts it on my back porch. I finish with the grass and come in to check out my new picks, but they are the same freakin thing as my old blue one's. These are just Black and say Jazz on the pack. They aren't even pointy. to top it off they only sent me three packs when it says on the order receipt they send out that I ordered four.

Anyway can you guys please help me. I want a small pointy Jazz pick with the tortex feel. But i don't know what to order.
Saw this on another forum and just HAD to share...

Best finish of Razor V?
by splittailstealth on Fri Jul 10, 2009 10:56 pm
I have been looking at Razorback Vs today and trying to figure out which one I like the best.

Right now my favorite is the White w/ Black Bevels. Cool

Which finish is your favorite on the Razor V?
NAD!
by Joose on Fri Jul 10, 2009 10:59 pm
Randall V2 Ninja 400 Watt Hybrid

I absolutely LOVE this thing. This is the exact tone I've been searching for. And might I add, it's built like a tank.

Now, I will say that yes, it does have a pretty ridiculous amount of noise/feedback. But nothing that an ISP Decimator G String shouldn't be able to tame.

I will also say that I actually prefer the Solid State overdrive. With the push/pull boost engaged, the graphic EQ on, and the Gain around 7 or so (no numbers, I'm just guessing), Bass around 4, Mids around 7 and treble around 6, it's just perfect.

More Dean Stealths please
by BadAssBilly on Sat Jul 11, 2009 1:26 am
Dean has exploded recently with all the Dimebag geets that came out but what in the world....Only one real Stealth? The SnakeSkin is really nice but as we all know here at the forums we really need more stealths to choose from. I dont even count the unfloyded stealth. So please chime in and support the push for more stealths. Smile

Oh and I realize this may be beating the dead horse but I still cant see more Dean stealths coming.

cables
by rennagata92 on Sat Jul 11, 2009 9:17 am
do cables really make a difference?
i play the cheap ones from GC and aside from the fact the you have to keep replacing them can people tell the difference?
alot of people make a big deal of monster cable but is it work paying like $30 for maybe 12 ft?
what cable do you think are the best for the price?
the reason im asking this is my cable is going bad again Rolling Eyes
what would you recommend? it has to sound good and be fairly cheap and not break in a few months.

Flying V (V-Factor X) vs. Les Paul
by nytan on Sat Jul 11, 2009 4:17 pm
There have been plenty of debates over the Flying V vs. Stratocaster. As far as humbucking guitars go however, the V and the Les Paul are arguably the most iconic. So which one is everyones fave?

Pros? Cons?

Tone? Appearance? Playability?

And...go.

Buying my first 7 string
by dan_plus_o on Sun Jul 12, 2009 4:39 am
Hey guys, so I am thinking about buying my first 7 string guitar. As this is my first 7 string guitar I don't want to spend a bunch of money and in the end find out I would of been happier with say a Baritone or something. So I am looking for recommendations for a good 7 string that isn't too much money. Did some google searches and some people said the Ibanez RG7321 is a good starter 7 string.

I don't care too much about the pickups because they can always be upgraded later if I really end up liking the guitar.

I play metal and would like to stay around the $500 CAN mark or around the cost of the Ibanez RG7321 (which I found for $525 CAN).

The JB is alright, but I have an Anderson HN3+ "flamethrower" that I've been waiting to use. It needs a little fine tuning on the setup, but I've been having a lot of fun playing some Metallica covers on it. I already wrote a song with it even Very Happy . What would you like to see Dean do in the forseeable future?
by what-a-cool-username on Sun Jul 12, 2009 2:10 pm
Yes, we've had these threads before, but dammit we'll have them again! Just a foreword, I don't want this thread to descend into another bashfest, it should simply be sharing and commenting on ideas with no malicious intent towards each other or each other's ideas.

So's anyway, what would you like to see Dean doing?
Personally I'd love to see something like a dedicated Shred Series, a range of V's, ML's and Z's with a much slimmer neck profile, perhaps similar to the VMNT necks. I'd like to see them with a range of options such as:
- Choice of fretboard wood: Rosewood, maple, ebony
- Option of trem/non-trem
- H - H/H - H/S/S - H/S/H configurations
- Some nice solid colour paint schemes
- Possibly the option of 24 frets
- Dean pickups like the Baker Act in all of them

I think that something like that would give Dean a good boot in the arse where it's needed, extend the classic Dean shape range out a bit and offer a hand to players who like the shape but don't like the particular options or whatever.

Anyway, away you go - what would you like to see? And remember, please play nice kids!!

Bugera 1960 vs Marshall JCM800 1959
by formula73 on Sun Jul 12, 2009 6:34 pm
Finally found a review/comparison of a Marshall Plexi (late 80s 1959) vs the Bugera 1960 Plexi clone. Another thing he didn't point out was that by purist standards, the JCM800 1959 is relatively frowned upon, for some reason. I kinda miss mine, though it was modded all to hell. Anyway, here goes.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3Sh3gjwaIg&feature=channel

I think the Marshall kills it. Better tubes might help, but the Marshall has a thick, beefy midrange that the Bugera seems to lack. The Bugera sounds...fizzy...

Just this I've had my Baby ML since Friday.

If your a like Dean's and don't have one of the Babies get one.
If you have the cash get a USA .

But get one this is a great guitar not a mini guitar but a guitar.

The only difference between the baby and the ML X I have is the body size.

The neck the pup spacing and scales are the same I measured them.

The thing I like most is the body isn't flat it has a beveled edge it's really comfortable.

Get one you will like it.

by VashFLCL on Sun Jul 12, 2009 10:09 pm
Finally got my Krank REV+. I gotta say all the Krank hating I've seen really isn't warranted. I understand that every person has a different preference, but this amp is really good. I got to play this side to side with a Mesa I was going to get. I really really like Mesa, especially because Petrucci gets some really good tones out of them.
I would have to say that this Krank is really versatile, and as far as tightness of the sound compared to the Mesa Recto, Krank sounds less muddy.

I'm not bashing, I'm just saying I like this amp and I'm very pleased with the quality of it.

I like both Mesa and Krank, well Krank amps that is.

Here is a pic of it.

I have a Peavey ValveKing and my FX loop magically stopped working. I have an MXR chorus and 10 band EQ in the FX loop. awsome sounding amp i tried one today and loved it!

i was looking into getting a peavey 6505 plus and i can get a bugera 1990 and a bugera 6262 plus a pedal to switch between the 2 heads for cheaper then the peavey. so that bugera setup would cover every single base you could think of and would still be cheaper. Pretty awsome company when the bugs are actually worked out. Cool if i was the guitar player in my band instead of bass i would look no further then bugera!

not looking to spend alot of money. i pretty much only play this guitar while im at work

also, why can't i find any individual middle pups without buying a set?
The Dean Guitars 12 Bar Blues Jam... IT'S FINISHED!!!!!!
by what-a-cool-username on Tue Jul 14, 2009 2:12 pm
Hey guys, I was just arsing about with Audacity recording some stupid samples and using the 12 bar blues thingy when I came up with an idea for a new forum game!!

Here's the lowdown:
I'll record a 12 bar blues backing track and put it up on Soundclick for download, then anyone who wants to join in can import it into whatever program they want and record a short solo over the backing track, then send it back to me. At the end we'll mix all the 12 bar pieces into one giant Dean Forum blues jam. To keep things simple we'll keep it in one key, hasn't been determined yet but I think A would be as good a key as any, so that way people will all sound cohesice.
I'll record the track with a light overdrive but you can play as clean or as distorted as you want.
We're not looking for anything particularly virtuosic here, I picked blues because it's something every guitar player can do and do with relative ease so it doesn't matter how lethal or lowly your chops are, everyone can join in! As well as that it's a pretty simple concept and won't need loads of planning like the Allstars did.

If you think it's a good idea, post here, fire your rigs up and I'll get recording the backing track. By the way, if anybody wants to lend a simple drum loop to it I'd be much obliged, my Beatcraft trial run has run out. The pace is gonna be pretty lively, we're wanting wholesome family fun blues here!
Peace,
-Ryan

I passed up an offer from a friend to buy this a few years ago, when I was first learning. He wanted $60 for it and I passed because I don't really dig fire engine red, couldn't see a way to adjust the truss rod and the floyd was beyond me.

Another friend ended up buying it, and it has been hanging on his wall since then. A few days ago, I restrung, polished it and set up the floyd- this thing is a ripper. Cleaned up beautifully, a few very small dings but they are hard to see Could use a pickup upgrade, but they are alright.

Considering a trade for my Tele, so any info on this is appreciated.

Now, I need to find a set of locking nut clamps and a trem bar that will fit and match the existing chrome nicely.

Styles and such
by Blind Theory on Tue Jul 14, 2009 5:54 pm
Ok, I hear a lot about metal guitarist. Mainly, people saying they can be really good at metal but when asked to play something else, they simply can't. I have noticed that my playing is mainly metal (suicide silence, all shall perish, COB, etc.). I wouldn't mind being a one style kind of guy but knowing other styles wouldn't hurt either. Plus, I think it would help out my writing a lot. Just to be able to bring in influence from different genres to make an outside-of-the-box type of song. So, I was thinking of what songs to try and learn. Here is what I was thinking:
You Really Got Me-Van Halen
Chattahoochee-Alan Jackson

And that is IT! So I have songs for Country and Classic rock. So I was wondering, does anyone have any good songs to learn for Blues, Classical, and Jazz? Keep in mind, all these are new-ish styles to me so try and keep it easy. Thanks guys!

Strap locks on pins behind the neck
by nytan on Wed Jul 15, 2009 8:00 am
I've never installed strap locks on a guitar with strap pins behind the neck so I wanted some input from you guys.

What's a good set to throw on a strap pin configuration like on an ML/V/Explorer/SG style guitar? I've only owned either singlecut or strat style guitars.

I generally prefer Schallers over Dunlops but I worry that the actual lock segment with interfere with my fretting hand since it sits directly behind the heel.

Could someone with Schallers installed on their guitar share some insight or better yet, some photos?

This Is A Disaster....
by deathgrind on Thu Jul 16, 2009 11:10 pm
My EC-400 could be tuned once every 3 days and stay in perfect tune even through massive wankery solos and crazy bends. The intonation was so spot on that all the open chords sounded pitch perfect and bar chords sounded flawless all the way up the neck. This guitar had become my life partner in the crime of commiting music lol.

About a month ago I went to put the guitar back on its stand and the body somehow managed to slip out of the cradle. The guitar fell INCHES to the ground, landed on the bottom strap button, and fell foward onto the body. I inspected to find a couple of dings, nicks, and scratches. This wasn't a big deal, this guitar was all about its performance and there wasn't any major damage. Well after the inspection I tuned her up and played an open E chord wich was perfect. Then I played a G (flawless), played a C (wacky sounding), and then a D chord (horrible sounding)!

As some of you know I brought the guitar in for some new pickups and a setup. I imagined the bridge was just thrown off a little bit after the fall and everything would be fine after the setup. No such luck, it was still pretty out of tune with the different chords and wouldn't stay in tune for more than 30-40 seconds! I then brought the guitar to the guy who did the original setup wich made it play so amazingly in the first place. After he was done I played it for 5 mins at the store and everything seemed to be back to normal. It wasn't till later that night at practice that after playing 3-4 songs everything went right back to how screwed up it was!

I can't help but feel hopeless right now and think I might have effed up the best thing that ever happened to me in 9 years of buying gear. Ive had numerous USA PRS guitars, Gibsons, Fenders, and a vintage USA Dean Elite. Nothing came close to how spot on the LTD was with staying in tune and intonation. Everything about it was perfect and now it just wont stay in tune. Does anyone have any idea what the hell could have happened or why its performing this way now? Also has anyone else ever noticed that some chords sound more in tune than others on most guitars? Honestly, with the EC every single chord you could throw at it sounded spot on no matter where it was played on the neck before it fell.

pedal gate in the loop?
by rottingcorpse on Fri Jul 17, 2009 12:25 am
is anyone using the isp decimator or other foot pedal gate in the loop of their amp?

i am not asking about the rack units. they are designed to go in the loop of an amp. i have an alesis 3630 rack unit, but the gate is too tight for me to use in this manner. i am just trying to reign in some of the noise produced by the preamp,as i have a gate in my pedal-board for my guitar signal.

i am pretty sure the loop's signal is MUCH stronger than the guitar signal it would see in a normal setup(i.e. guitar-gate-amp).

if you are using a foot pedal gate in the loop of your amp,are you having to turn it up much higher to get the "hiss" out? all i am trying to do is tame some of the preamp noise out of some of my other heads.

all comments welcome, even the smart ass ones like i would post.

In your opinion, who makes the best strap locks? I was jumping around in my room playing my ML and the leg portion of the strap came undone. The guitar landed right on the corner of my metal 4 button footswitch for my amp and put a decent sized chip in it.

Going.... going... gone.
by what-a-cool-username on Fri Jul 17, 2009 10:38 am
Some of you know this, some of you don't - but in the past week or so I've been trying to flog my ML. It's a brilliantly guitar and tonally is amazing, but unfortunatley even after over a year of ownership I just cannot get used to the neck on it, and it's become less and less used as time went on - so the time's come to let it go.
I got a damn good price on it, and I'm not sorry to see it go in the slightest, because I'd much rather it went to someone who could properly appreciate it rather than sitting collecting dust next to it's faster-playing sisters. As well as that, I need a cab for my amp and I got either a tasty new Ibanez or Fender stuck firmly in my crosshairs so it's a win/win situation all round.
It won't be my last Dean though, whenever I can get the money I'll either buy a nice import or even look into getting a USA, where I can dictate exactly what I want from the guitar and how it plays.
Anyway, here's some going-away pr0n, it's nothing special, cos none of my pr0n is - but it's something at least!

Played a Bunch of Kranks
by rridner on Fri Jul 17, 2009 12:18 pm
yesterday I went to my local shop - who just became a Krank dealer. I wanted to check some of the "big boys" out as well as just see what all they had in stock. played quite a few different amps and they all sounded kickass! here is what I messed around with:

Krankenstein
Krankenstein Jr 20W
Rev Jr Pro 50W
Rev SST

I previously owned a Rev JR but was not very impressed with it as I live in an apartment and never really got a chance to let her rip. As we all know, tube amps are not properly represented at super low apartment friendly volumes. To get a true representation of what the amp sounds like, you need to be able to open it up! So, I never really got to hear what the Rev JR really sounded like. Which reverted me back to Soild State. Anyhow, in the store I was able to see what all the above mentioned amps were really capable of. The Krankenstein is a total beast - I was loving it! Very high gain and the clarity of each note was very impressive - even the JR version was ballsy as all hell! Was shocked that the Pro 50W was capable of pushing a Randall 4x12 and really made it thump! The Pro and Krankenstein JR are both foot switchable as well - which is cool. Not a big deal for me as I am pretty much on the dirty channel nonstop....cleans? what are those?!?! After yesterday, a Krank has made its way back onto my GAS list Cool

ESP/LTD FM-418 8-STRING
by rridner on Fri Jul 17, 2009 4:04 pm
played one of these yesterday and I was digging it - played really nice. aside from the neck being super wide, it was very thin & fast - quite comfortable to play. it took me a minute to get used to though. I have a 7 string, but I haven't played it in a while as I took it apart to be my project but have not had time to work on it. once I got comfortable with the extra strings aspect - I was sludging it up something fierce! sounded quite br00tal through the Krankenstein I was messing around with. I have zero intention to get one, it was just cool to play around with - was curious to see how one would play/feel. the one I played was a special order. I guess the dude that ordered it, played it in the store for a couple hrs the day it arrived. took it home and then two days later called and returned it. kind of sucks for the shop that got it for em - not a huge market for 8 strings. now they are kind of stuck with it. I think they are willing to deal on it too, so that they don't have it hanging there forever. not sure why they let the dude return it in the 1st place - prolly cos they are hella nice. anyhow - it was fun to play to say the least. no real point to this thread, just bored at work Laughing

Final Demo Track Finished!! Ear pr0n inside :D
by what-a-cool-username on Fri Jul 17, 2009 4:54 pm
Well guys, just this morning I finished off the final and title track of my demo, and seeing as you've all been mega, mega supportive and encouraging to me I thought you should be the first to hear and give your thoughts on it Smile
You boys will like this one, it's an odd track as the name suggests, a mixture of Malmsteen, Vai, various classical composers and a lot of other random stuff that's been floating around inside my head for a long time and finally given life.
Speaking of long times, it took me ages and ages to write this song - I've been working on it pretty much constantly for the better part of a month or so, so it's great to have it finally over with and have everything finally in place, musically at least.
I guess it should really be called "With A Little Help From My Friends" because it would have been impossible to make without the help of my synth-savvy friend Matt who fleshed out all the synth/piano/xylophone parts which make up a very large portion of the song, although I doubt the Beatles would be too pleased with that Laughing

Anyway, I'll stfu and get to the point, here's the link for downloading the song:

Hold onto your butts and prepare to take a trip into madness - hope you enjoy!
Baritone Players?
by metalmessiah17 on Fri Jul 17, 2009 5:27 pm
Anyone out there own a baritone? I've had my Washy strung up and tuned as a baritone for a while now, it's great and fits what I want for the moment, but the scale is killing me. I was looking around for different ones, and so far the one with the best value that I've seen is the new Mike Mushok PRS. Set neck, ebony board, extended scale, all for roughly $500-600 from what I've seen. I was just wondering though if there were any other companies with a sweet baritone for a fair price.

quick question
by SoaD on Fri Jul 17, 2009 7:24 pm
did they discontinue the 79 v?
What is it?
by Blind Theory on Fri Jul 17, 2009 7:24 pm
Ok, I know we had one of these before but that one didn't go too well. Here is the question: What technique do you get the most joy out of doing/hearing?
Please, none of that crap about "You should enjoy doing everything and be an all around good guitarist" stuff. That ruined the last one of these if I recall correctly.
I'll start!
I love doing Hammer-ons/pull-offs type stuff. My fingers aren't very fast when it comes to fast solos (I.E. Downfall solo, etc). But, if I use this technique, I can pull off some of that stuff. Don't get me wrong, I am not slow but I just can't go that fast yet. Plus, I like the sounds that it can produce.
6505 popping crunching. *FiXED*
by '87 sherwood on Fri Jul 17, 2009 7:56 pm
The tone of the amp is as awesome as ever. There is no change at all. I have it in my padded road case and NOT on top of my cab. The head is unmodded except for the LED's which I power via a 9v boss adapter. The circuit remains unchanged inside the amp.

I play at practice and I get uncontrollable popping and cruching of epic proportions at random times. Its usually after 30 minutes or more and it does not always happen.

The loud pops and crunches are most defiantly from the head and they are at full volume. I play on 2 and the pop are so LOUD I almost crapped myself. It must be the power tube.

Opinions?

*Update*

Tapping on the preamp tubes re-creates the random noise. 3 of the tubes consistantly pop like hell when tapped lightly.

My newest guitar lesson - repetitions
by JonasTamas on Sat Jul 18, 2009 7:05 pm
I have made a new guitar lesson, it is on my Facebook music page. It is about constructing a solo by means of repetitions. Check it out!

"A common scenario: you have just written a cool riff or chord progression, and are trying to create a guitar solo on it. But no matter how long are you martyrizing the axe, no success seems to be achieved... A familiar situation, huh? Then read on, because this kind of problem can easily be solved following some general rules. To begin with, click here to download the sound files of this lesson:

Problems with B.C. Rich V
by Anonymous on Sat Jul 18, 2009 11:43 pm
Ive been playing guitar for just over a year and i was looking for an upgrade from my epiphone sg to start saving up for and I found the BC Rich DLXJRVO with and OFR and EMG pickups online and i wanted to see it in person, so today i went to guitar center to try it out. The floor model i was playing had really really low action on the first few frets, but it also had many, many dead frets, especially in the first 4 or 5 frets. it overall just sounded very crumby when i played on those first few frets, and notes in power chords would just cancel out. i dont know if i was just playing a bad one or if the locking nut was too tight or whatever. Any experiences like this with this guitar or any other floyd rose equipped guitars? Thanks

scotty bratcher band?

anyone ever heard of them? i was working in ohio this past week at the POCI GTOAA convention in Ohio, and one of the nights there was a free concert at a holiday inn right near the convention in beavercreek. anyway, they said this kid was playing that was supposedly some type of prodigy... so we went and checked them out. great stuff. kid was a great player, also loved his voice. sounded just like SRV. he did some great songs.
so... just curious as to whether or not anyone else has ever seen him.

the GAS continues!!
by psychohaulic on Sun Jul 19, 2009 4:01 am
so after lusting after deans for a long time, then finally owning my VMNT last month....the GAS continues!!!

after logging into my favorite forum every day for the last month and being hammered with all sorts of beautiful deans, one in particular has been catching my eye, partly because its always on the main page!

The Dean ML ATF 3000, in trans black ooohhhh so sexah, and a floyd! ive never owned a floyd i wanna learn how to make her scream after i make her purr....heres some good pics on this ebay site

http://cgi.ebay.ca/NEW-DEAN-ML-ARCHTOP-3000-FLOYD-ROSE-TRANS-BLACK-GUITAR_W0QQitemZ290332503421QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar?hash=item43992a6d7d&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1215%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

pure sexiness made of wood!

i have a set of seymour duncan blackouts i can throw in it right away, cuz ill take em outta my warlock, which ill have to sell...but yeah, opinions on this guitar?!?! should i do it!? how are the floyds?! i have to special order it cuz Deans arent really stocked anywhere here locally. Anyone own one or have played one? is it as sexah as she looks? ive had some good looking girls in my time that have ended up being unreliable untrustworthy dogs Shocked

AHHHHH GAS is so evil and beautiful at the same time!!! Twisted Evil

Does anyone make: thin body acoustic with a V neck?
by bassmantim71 on Sun Jul 19, 2009 6:41 am
Simple question, I "loves" my V shaped neck profile axes..., probably gonna ditch my last C neck ML soon.

So I want to buy an acoustic geetar. Can I easily find one with a V shaped neck? Better yet, a soft V to C shaped neck like my Slime or a Soltero?

Has to be a thin body acoustic, I can't play those fat ones!!! I prefer electro-acoustic, but acoustic only is also fine if the price is right Cool

ml atf 3000
by Dork on Sun Jul 19, 2009 3:55 pm
What do you guys think about this one ? ( ML ATF 3000 ) Good features, I don't know about the abalone binding though. Kind of sparkly. Originl Floyd, good pups. What neck shape does it have ? Is it a "V" shape or not ? That's my big question. I am kind of digging it in red. Wish I knew what was coming in for 2010. I'd like to get one of these, but don't know if I should wait to see what's in store for 2010.
It's rare that I have GAS for more than 1 guitar at a time..
by Joose on Sun Jul 19, 2009 4:43 pm
Actually, it's rare that I truly have GAS in the first place. I just "want" guitars usually.

But my God am I gettin' itchy for both of these:

1. ESP Eclipse II Vintage Black
Image

2. Jackson COW-7 Black

I'll buy my new cab, then the ESP, then the Jackson. Sounds like a good plan to me.... now all I have to do is stick to it and not buy any cheap guitars in between all of this!
coolest acoustic guitar EVER!
by soliloquy on Sun Jul 19, 2009 5:02 pm
yeah yeah, it was done by babicz guitars for years. but before that, it was prolly first seen in 1800's. but i wonder why this technology never caught on. michael kelly may be in for a law suit as they are claiming its their own technology and there is a patent pending on it right now...but i think babicz already has that copy righted.

but, michael kelly has done the guitar in a MUCH more affordable way and with a better pin-less bridge. plus, ebony fret board? i think michael kelly is a win:

am i the only one who thinks this is the greatest technology slapped on an acoustic guitar since a tuner and peizo?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cs2Go_f7kM0

Image

i mean, this is one reason why i tend to stay away from acoustic guitars. the action, for majority of guitars is WAY too high. and there is hardly much you can do to change that. yet, with this guitar, you can easily change the action back and forth without much of an hassle. no much ripping your saddle, sanding it down and sticking it back on.

this is just brilliant!

and this is a collaboration between martin and babicz guitar

PU's, Noise, and a silly question.
by Graunke on Mon Jul 20, 2009 3:45 am
Here's the scenario.

I have a very basic rig. This is the setup, and the settings.

Marshall DUal REverb Head into 4x12- Gain at 16
ZW OD- Gain at 5-10% Level set same as input volume

This isn't a whole lot of gain, but I am getting an awful lot of noise at rehearsal volume. I'm hoping it has more to do with me standing so close to the rig... Correct?

My Splitail and my Soltero are less noisy than my Black GOld Z. They all have great tone, but are the lesser quality pu's in the BGZ the source of the noise? Upgrading the PU's my best option?

I wouldn't think I need a noise gate, since I'm not going Uber Metal Gain or anything.

Basically it's a replica of an ESP, it's cheap for the quality the seller professes, it's in Ireland so I won't be gouged by delivery fees (why do all of you selling guitars live in the US :'( ) and I'm tempted by a white explorer with EMGs. The guy has a youtube video where he plays it and it looks ok, and has 100% referrals.

Should I take this bet ?

so my bands had rough patches the drummer and guitar players did there own things and wernt dedicated. we let go of the drummer because of a bunch of things. we never did find a new drummer so the two guitarists walked away 2 days ago. yesturday i found an amazing drummer with an As I Lay Dying style which is better then the old drummers protest the hero style and my vocalist found two guitar players who have known and jammed with each other for 5 years and have been playing guitar for 7,8 years. Today we had our first practice and the songs flowed freely i must say we acomplished more today then our old line up ever did!
we plan to have a show next month and it couldnt have worked out any better Smile

Crybaby From Hell Help

So I got my new wah (sweet!) and it has the 6 postion selector knob and 3 tiny pots on the side. The 3 tiny pots are, Volume, Fine tune, and Variable Q. The 6 position choses the sweep that you want to play through. If you listen to to the end solo of CFH live at ozzfest 2000, Dime's wah makes the notes almost sound like harmonic's. Here's the vid:

Straps.
by Spite on Mon Jul 20, 2009 6:29 pm
So, I went into the local guitarshop.
I tried a Gibson Flying V and a Epiphone Goth Explorer.
Due to my skewed left hand, I'm having trouble sitting down and playing, so I had to borrow a strap from the shop.
I tried playing around with it a bit, but I just didnt like the feel of it.
I got the feeling it might be because of the strap I used. I'm a big guy, and I like my ax way down, but the strap in the shop was way too short for me to be playing it comfortably. Should I bring my own strap into the shop next time? How much does the strap length matter to you, when you play different guitars?

Oh, I also found out just how heavy my DFH is compared to other guitars. The V felt like a plastic toy, due to how light it was, and the Explorer felt kinda meh. I guess I like it heavy all the way. Laughing

NGD! AGAIN! ....and i hope the last for a while
by psychohaulic on Wed Jul 22, 2009 1:27 am
so i know im fairly new here, and im a big Dean fan, love my VMNT to death...but its only really best for metal and slaying elves...and between my strat, and my Dean.....i got no really hard rock crunch! no 2 humbucking rocking guitar.

So i been searching...

i traded in a squire Tele i had for a PRS SE Custom.....nice import guitar, a bit ripe 800 bucks with semi weak pickups...but definately seemed like it would do the job oce i spent some coin upgrading. UN fortunately the QC on it just wasnt up to PAR...the damn decal started flecking off the headstock even on it, toggle is loose as hell, just not great..

so as a fender guy for many years, i have began opening my horizons and checking out the other guy, some epiphone les pauls! and i actually started to like a few of them! so i decided to EBAY one....WRONG! BAD mistake!! I guess with epiphones being made in china, the fakes and counterfeits are prolific since there are no laws against it there....and I ended up with a DUD!! a phony! UGH! so forget that nonsence (still waiting on my refund to process, dont ever ebay an epiphone )

then in the dumps i started getting excited about our very own Dean asian imports, only to find that quality is questionable even in the $1000+ range

so after all this, im a bit ticked off and a bit neurotic, so i decided...never again! quality is worth it, packed up the PRS and brought it back to the store, and walked out with a brand new....

i was thinking lately that i dont see what the big deal is about v neck profiles. they dont feel different to me. then i discovered that none of the Deans at GC have v necks Razz .

and they got more than a few. i could have swore the ml shadow had one but i didnt see it on the list that was posted here a while back.

what other brands have v necks? even if its not on a dean id like to feel one up and see what all the hubub is about.
Power Conditioners
by Graunke on Wed Jul 22, 2009 8:04 pm
So......

I am in the market for a power conditioner. I don't have a bunch of rack gear, so it will be going in 2 space that probly has a wireless in it.

There seems to be quite a fluctuation in prices on these. How important are things like the LED display showing voltage? Does it really matter what the voltage is as long as it works? I mean doesn't the conditioner make sure the voltage isnt to high anyway?

I guess I need someone to justify to me why I need to spend the extra money on a few lights and whistles?

What kind do you use? Why do you like it over the competition?
