"From hard rocking acoustic to classic country Dean acoustic can cover it. The Tucson booms out with a full rich sound that in a live setting is real important to me."

Jon Kott is a talented songwriter and singer who has known from an early age that his life would be devoted to music. At an early age he realized that he could sing well, and he felt he could be as good as anyone he had heard on record or radio. He learned to play the guitar and started writing lyrics. Soon he began playing with friends and performing shows for his family and anyone else who would listen.

At the age of 20 he formed his first real serious band, Uncle Booby, named for his uncle in Texas. This band was a mix of raucous country and rock and roll which was well received locally and attracted a growing fan following. The shows they did gave him experience and his playing and songwriting skills improved as well. When Uncle Booby finally disbanded he formed the band Rooster and began touring the Midwest.

Rooster played live shows in every venue, tavern or bar they could get. As their fan base grew and they played to big crowds around the Mid West, Jon knew he needed something else to get his band noticed on a larger scale. Early in 1998, they recorded Solid State at Tempermill Studios. Produced by Dave Feeny, this collection of cleverly crafted songs offered a glimpse of what would emerge as the band’s obvious strong point – songwriting. The first pressing sold out in just over six months, not bad for a first effort.

In the fall of 1999 Jon and Rooster journeyed to Nashville to record their second album. The Nashville Sessions was produced by Clark Hagan who had also worked with Chet Atkins, Ray Stevens, and bands such as Days of the New. Recorded at Nightingale and Omnisound Studios, The Nashville Sessions allowed Jon to explore the Southern side of his musical make-up, while still holding true to Rooster’s energetic pop formula. Although initially intended for promotional use only, the songs were released on the groups Mp3 site because of their fans’ insistence for material. To date the site has received over ten thousand hits.

In September 2000 they recorded a three-song demo at Rustbelt Studios in Royal Oak, MI. The demo was produced by Al Sutton and Bob Ebeling who had received Grammy nominations for their work with both Kid Rock and Eminem. With award winning producers at the helm, Rooster’s work offered harder edged and more polished versions of fan favorites like Perfect One and Ever Rain as well as a new composition and fan favorite titled Hothouse.

Soon Jon’s music began getting the notice it deserved. In 2000 Rooster was chosen by Peter Frampton from over three hundred bands to open a sold out show at Pine Knob Music Theater. Also that year they were picked from a group of eight hundred bands for the prestigious B.E.A.M. Grant. In 2001 they were invited to the huge South by Southwest Music conference in Austin, TX. While in Austin, Jon received his first endorsement, a lifetime supply of strings from GHS Strings, this was the first time for an unsigned artist to receive this endorsement. More endorsements would be forthcoming from the likes of JVC Car Audio and Dean Guitars.

In time, booking gigs and playing live with Rooster began to take its toll. For relaxation he started playing some solo acoustic shows around Detroit. Playing alone gave him time to devote to writing lyrics, which had always been his first love. An amicable decision was reached for Rooster to go on hiatus while Jon tried a solo career.
