Terry Shelton of Billy Ray Cyrus -

From the early age of eight, Terry Shelton showed a natural gift for music. Working his way out of the Appalachian Mountains in West Virginia, Terry soon became a very well known musician throughout the club scene along the east coast. This was the start of what most would consider a very successful career for the WV born musician, songwriter, engineer, and producer.

In 1987 Shelton joined forces with a then unknown musical hopeful Billy Ray Cyrus. After four years of performing with Cyrus on the upscale Eastern Seaboard club circuit Terry then relocated to Nashville along with Billy Ray to work on his first album "Some Gave All".

Acting as band leader for Cyrus' group Sly Dog, Terry was at the very heart of the “Cyrus sound”, performing as well as arranging on the debut album that produced the world-wide hit “Achy Breaky Heart” while garnering sales of twelve million units. Shelton also co-wrote the hit single "She's Not Crying Anymore” which has been credited by BMI with over one million broadcast performances.

Shelton continued to work with Cyrus on subsequent projects, co-writing, among others, the title cut of the second multi platinum album “It Won't Be The Last”. While continuing his role as session player and band leader on both albums” It Won't Be The Last” and “Storm In The Heartland”, Shelton also appeared on the NASCAR project album on Columbia Records “Runnin Wide Open”. Contributing electric and acoustic guitar to these projects and his own unique style of electric slide guitar, Shelton firmly established himself as the nucleus of Cyrus' Country-Rock style.

During this period of time Shelton also appeared on the album “Elvis The Tribute” playing electric guitar, and performing with such artists as Carl Perkins and Don Was.

The next Cyrus album found Terry stepping into the role of producer and engineer, taking Billy Ray “back to his roots” co-producing the critically acclaimed album “Trail of Tears”. This album recorded at Shelton's home studio (The Recording Compound), produced the TNN / Music City News Award for Single of the Year in 1997 and set the wheels in motion for Terry to record and produce the track “Just As I Am” on the Charlie Daniels Grammy award winning Gospel album “Amazing Grace II”.

Terry then contributed his producing, engineering, and guitar playing talents to

“Ghost Dance”, the first solo endeavor of singer/songwriter Don Von Tress adding drum and keyboard sequencing, and digital mastering to his list of skills.

Shelton then moved into composing and producing music scores for television shows such as the Turner Original Productions Series “Wild Life Adventures” including such works as “Return Of The Eagle”,“Bear Wars”, “El Lobo: The Song Of The Wolf” and the PAX Network Hit Series “DOC” as well as co-producing the 2006 Billy Ray Cyrus CD “Wanna Be Your Joe”.

Terry's career, in many ways, speaks for itself. His musical integrity is a reflection of his love of the art and his many accomplishments reflect his predilection to staying “on top of his game” through hard work and dedication.
